AIR BAGS:KNEE BOLSTER

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2016 Ford Escape vehicles. The driver's knee airbag modules installed in these vehicles were produced without the inflator gas generant material, and, as a result, the air bags may not inflate properly in the event of a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

First I have the 2.0 Turbo Engine. Let's start with the Vista roof. You cannot have the windows down as the head liner will flip and drive you crazy at any speed. I have taking it on one major trip and now have parked it and looking to sell it soon. Under the front is a cheapest cardboard covering of the engine you will ever find! That's is until you have to have it replaced because of a piece of Truck tire that hit it. What it really does, is protect a small piece on the A/C compressor that looks like a afterthought. It's fuel Economy should be more. I would look at a Edge because of power verses mileage. The Escape doesn't corner well. At least with the 19" tires. It's tall and narrow and drifts. For the money, you can find a better SUV. The 2017 has made changes the 2016 doesn't have. Like a bigger gas tank. Then their is the shifter that is to far forward on the 2016 but was moved on the 2017. You will like the sound but that can come on just about any Ford, the sync 3. I had one side window blow out on a turnpike and the glass did not stay together but went everywhere, lucky for me, my grand-daughter was asleep under a blanket. The hood was really ugly but the 2017 they did some changes also. I would stay away from this SUV and look at others before I buy and also look at the HP. The 2017 added more HP, but again when you get only about 3 mpg over a 300 HP V6, I would really look at the V6 Engine. Last, when will Warranty be upped on a Ford? Even the Lincoln has 4 years. Many others have better and for the money I really would not do this again. And for love of money don't buy a White one if people around you burn wood as it's a magnet for soot! The tailgate on mine goes in for a look as waving my 11" shoe will not open the back. I hope this helps someone, Thanks!

You should expect to get the lowest mpg posted at all times. The fuel tank is very small so you are visiting the gas station every few days.

Our Escape is driven infrequently with less than 3000 miles on the odometer in one year. It is comfortable and gets great MPG for short runs and in the 30 MPG on trips of an hour or two. While I prefer a sedan or pickup for my personal vehicle, this vehicle is primarily driven by the Mrs. I would definitely recommend an Escape without reservations to anyone looking for a vehicle that is economical, attractive, and keeps up with the interstate speedsters. :o)

........ because her POS used vehicle was nickel and diming me badly. This thing is sweet. Too small for me, but she is tiny. No leather, no sunroof. NAV package, 2.0 ecoboost (this thing flies!), nice firm power seats, great dash layout, tight firm steering. Wonderful little car. A little pricey, but I think it is worth it for what you get. I guess everything is pricey these days since I haven't bought a new truck since 2004.

First , the Escape. I purchased had the 2.0litre turbo, which changes this vehicle from a nice little SUV to an OMG, I'm going how fast! Wanted something bigger for my wife then the Hyundai that she had and researched the Escape. This little SUV is far from little in features and interior room. First off the seating is comfortable and after driving 3 hours to Orlando, I hoped out and felt no fatigue and was ready to go. The driving characteristics are responsive and light, sometimes can feel a little to responsive, wish it had a sport mode for steering like my mustang. The power is great, 240hp out of a 2 litre turbo, crazy, kept finding myself cruising at high 80's and having to let off the gas. At this speed it averages 26.5 mph. We were loaded up with 2 dog carriers and several sets of golf clubs as well as suit cases and everything fit in the back without a single care. The interior sound was minimal, more noticeable was the tire noise from the Continental tires... All in all would have no problem suggesting this vehicle and hope to put many miles on it.

Broke down on the side of the road in my 2016.

We purchased this vehicle from Marysville Ford in Washington State. We are soon to have a new teen driver in our family and were in need of a safe, reliable vehicle. I am deeply concerned that I found myself on the side of the road in a rural area with my check engine light blinking and a shuddering vehicle with no acceleration. This scenario is exactly why we impeded on our family budget to purchase what we believed to be a sound investment so our teen driver would not be at the side of the road. After reading other concerning reviews regarding this model I am concerned what the dealership may respond with this fine day. We purchased in December 2016 and have 20,000 miles on the odometer. I would not recommend this vehicle due to these unknown circumstances and note all we have had done to the vehicle are oil changes at the dealership. Wish us luck!

Totally surprise with the performance...

We recently got a 2016 Ford Escape S (base model) and Covert Ford here in Austin, TX gave us a great deal for the car. We just went to Dallas to visit my son and were totally surprise with the performance (very agile and fast). We just had 1,500 miles and on it and averages - - 26.4 miles/gal (city) and 31.8 miles/gal (highway) - - I thought the gauges were wrong but it confirmed it when I fill her up. We didn't have all the bells and whistles but it has enough features we need to have a smooth/leisure travel - - bluetooth, back-up camera, usb port. We do keep our cars for a long time - - so, I do not regret adding a 7/100,000 miles extended warranty on it - - definitely gonna drive this to the ground.

We've purchased our new Ford Escape less than a month ago. It has the additional Equipment Group 201A package. We haven't tested it on various road or weather conditions, including wet pavement. This is our first SUV. It has very good maneuverability and pick up for city and highway driving. We haven't hauled heavy loads. We love the rear camera, all-around visibility and reverse sensors that give us added protection with backing up. The interior is very comfortable but wish there were more storage compartments in the front. We love the convenient storage in our 2010 Fusion which has more storage space than the Escape. The lumbar support and ability to elevate the driver's seat, adds to the driver's comfort with less fatigue. So far the gas mileage isn't great - only 20 mpg combined city and highway. But our vehicle isnt properly "broken in" yet. The owner's manual states to calculate after the first 1000 miles, which we haven't reached yet. The Sync 3 is awesome and user friendly! The speaker system produces clear, crisp stereo music. Also, the mph displays in large numbers on the information display panel allows the driver to see the speed at just a quick glance. The cruise control buttons are easy to find and it's much easier to resume speed with just a flip forward on the resume/cancel bar. This winter, we will appreciate the FWD that will automatically convert to AWD if needed. We have used edmunds.com for over 15 years and have found it to be a very reliable source of information for our auto purchases.

The only negative I have found with my 2016 Escape is the dust that collects around the inside of doors and the hatch. We travel some gravel roads and always have dust in door frames and hatch.

I am 6'3" and weigh about 21 stone [that sounds so much better than 300 lbs] and can easily get in and out of this car and ride 100+ miles per without being beat up in the process. For a small SUV it has a stable, solid ride and keeps me cool even in Houston's heat. This is maybe the ideal run around car.

This is my second Escape bought for a college aged daughter. The other one is two years old and we really like it. Big enough as an SUV to feel she is safe on the road, good safety features. She is a techie person so she loves the Bluetooth system, GPS, and USB interface between he radio and her ITunes file. Plenty of room for getting things back and forth to college. Good get up and go with the EcoBoost fuel system. Stylish in her eyes. And Dad likes driving it when she lets me.Bought as a Demonstrator so got a good discount.

Very Happy with my choice!

The 2016 Escape has been an outstanding SUV. I had a 2005 Mazda Tribute before this SUV and the upgrade to the 2016 Escape is outstanding. My fuel Economy is greatly improved and Maintenance is a lot lower. The Driving with the 2.0L has been a blast and the SUV has increasable speed that make you move. The very best thing in the SUV is the design and look inside as the model I have is the higher end with all the bells and whistles. I think for the price and what you get in this SUV is a great bargain as friends that drive MB and Audi model now prefer driving my Escape at time, Thanks FORD for a great new fast and comfortable SUV. I want to mention that I looks around at a lot of models including the Edge but found the smaller Escape better sized for my needs.

Pros: 2.0 Ecoboost engine has plenty of pickup. Drives great in rain. Good quiet ride for mid-size vehicle. Good styling and comfort. Plenty of options on SE model available, unlike competitors lower end models. Wife doesn't like FOB's and button start and wanted a key. This was the best option. Has door combination lock, also a requirement not available on lower models of competitors we visited. Nice Panoramic Sunroof Sync 3 works well with Android and iPhone Rear seat room adequate for average height person Cons: Not keeping up with times. No phone storage spot for driver except cup holders, thus losing a cup holder. Limited storage space throughout Glove box almost hits passenger seat. Not functional with seated passenger. Smaller interior than most like competitors

Overall car is awesome for our needs. we use it to go to the White mountains in N/E Az. from Phoenix Az. so we go from 1000+ feet to about 7200 feet. Our first two trips we averaged 28.5mpg going up the mountain (with no A/C) and over 36 coming down with A/C. So of course are pleased with gas usage. (That compares to about 20 mpg average with the v-8 mountaineer, our previous SUV) The 1.6 has a tendency to downshift with anything but casual acceleration, but has enough power to feel safe in passing - U just have to get used to the roar as it downshifts. We have only about 2000 miles on the car with no problems. General comments: neglected to get cross bars and trailer hitch will have to add . LIke to carry a mtn. bike and need capability to use roof top so those items will be added. Wife's car- her likes: She loves the leather, visibility as she sits up higher than in our volt. Loves the storage behind the rear seats and the electric rear hatch. My thoughts: Great suspension -is tight - drives a little like a sports car with very responsive steering. FUN TO DRIVE Also love the satellite radio, good speaker system, and overall interior. I added rubber mats as I dislike the cloth. I also like to downhill ski - the front wheel drive works well in the snow

I purchased a 2016 Ford Escape after owning the older style Escapes and Mazda Tributes. I basically went from the boxy type to the more sleek, sporty design. The pluses with the car are pick up and maneuverability. The minuses of the vehicle are gas mileage (about 19) with Ecoboost. If you have a passenger in the front seat and passengers in the back seat, visibility and blind spots become an issue. Even with the back up camera, I don't feel confident backing up without visually seeing my surroundings. Overall, it's a nice vehicle and certainly far better in engineering than a Nissan Rogue. If it wasn't for the gas mileage being so disappointing, I would give the car a five star rating. I expected to do far better than 19.

I had fusion before this and got 33mpg highway. This only gets 19mpg. I would look at something else if your looking for gas mileage. The car itself is good, but the gas mileage gives the car a terrible rating.

I didn't realize how much I was going to love this car. It is so comfortable, even for a small person, and I can see out the windows. I feel like I need a booster seat in most cars. We rent a lot of cars on vacation and that is how we discovered the Escape.

The design of the steering console and handling response is GREAT... the steering wheel is a bit smaller than average which helps it to feel like a sports car and the handling response really is great! It gets really good gas mileage and is easy to get in/out of... not too high off the ground to access comfortably. It feels really sporty for an SUV. I even like it more than I liked my ML350 (Mercedes) SUV... and I liked the Mercedes a LOT.

I have been driving a Ford Escape Hybrid for the past 6 years and LOVE IT, so I naturally went looking to buy another one. Imagine my surprise. While it is a beautiful vehicle with lots of storage in the back, there is no place to put ANYTHING, including a cell phone in the front. They took away every nook and cranny. While I LOVED the Jukebox feature whereby I could upload all of my music to the hard drive of the car and easily access it, they took that feature away. They also took away the ability to play a DVD on the screen in the front seat of the car. On long trips, I loved taking a break at a rest area and mindlessly watching a DVD while I rested. Also taken away were the wonderful mirrors within mirrors so that I could see if a vehicle was in my blind spots. Now there is a warning light, but you can't actually SEE the vehicle. So, while there have been some wonderful improvements, I will miss those four features immensely.

Other than the fact I have now gone through TWO fuel pumps since buying this car, I am just as disappointed in the lack of quality materials used in the simple things like control knobs and seat cushion materials. Lots of road noise on the highway. I wont buy again. Next time I'm probably going back to a santa Fe

I have the 2016 Escape Titanium with the 2.0 L engine. This SUV has lots of power and handles very well on the road. The Titanium level is loaded with many options and features. Navigation system is very easy to use as is all the function on this SUV. Interior finish quality is first class as is the exterior styling. Love the cargo room and foot activated rear hatch. If anyone is looking for a compact quality SUV with many options the Escape Titanium is the way to go.

This is my second Escape and again, I was not disappointed. The car looks good, handles great and is a nice value. The size is perfect for me. It holds what I need in the cargo area (golf clubs, shoes, etc.) and is easy to maneuver. I got the 2.0L engine and it accelerates quite nicely. All in all, am delighted.

Great suv with superior mileage, and handling. Good acceleration with my 1.6 turbo. The only complaint is that the road noise is not well suppressed and the engine noise under acceleration is not well damped. Obviously not enough sound deadening materials were, used on this car. That is too bad as the vehicle is excellent in all other aspects ! One complaint. When operating in hot dry weather , the breaks have a high pitched squeal when vehicle is slowing to a stop. Dealer found nothing amiss and I am living with it. Interested if any others have this problem.

My wife and I purchased a base model Escape S with no options except alloy wheels. Even in base trim, the 2016 Escape has some nice features. A backup camera, bluetooth connectivity, Ford Sync, Applink, power windows & locks, keyless entry, and full color screens on the dash and instrument cluster....all standard. In order to get some of these items, you have to step up from the base trim (the 2016 Kia Sportage is a good example...you can't get a backup camera in base trim). I was so impressed with the vehicle that we replaced my Ford Fusion with one. We now have two Escapes in the garage! For a performance standpoint, the 2.5L naturally aspirated four cylinder is just adequate. Meaning it's not dangerously under powered, but it's no powerhouse either. It is quiet, smooth, and proving to be fuel efficient. It's also NOT direct injected, which should help avoid the carbon build up on the intake valves so may GDI engines suffer from. My wife never notices the engine being an issue. She just happily drives along oblivious to the fact that she has the "base model" engine. Myself, on the other hand, am a bit of a speed freak and the 2.5L is not winning any races. Just appreciate it for what it is...an old school, tried and true design that's been around in some form for many years. It's a workhorse and has proven reliable. It also has chain driven cams, so no worry about timing belts. The Escape has a playful character. It rides a bit firm for a vehicle in this class, but having driven the Honda CR-V, which like all Hondas, is the equivalent of riding a dead horse. Very boring and isolated. If you like a little fun feel in your cars, the Escape won't disappoint. The handling is not sport car sharp, but it acquits itself nicely. When driven is the manner in which it is designed, it is above average. Steering is nicely weighted, especially for electronic steering, and feedback is good as well. The ride and handling of the Escape give it a fun to drive factor that is missing in most other CUVs. Inside things are very nice for a base model. Soft touch surfaces abound, including on the tops of the door panels where tall folks like me rest their left arm. The center armrest is nicely padded and well located. Underneath it is a smallish bin that is deep and narrow. If the Escape falls short anywhere, it's in the center console. Two cup holders and a hand brake consume much of the space, with a 12v outlet and change pocket for those who have a toll to pay on their route (in which case a pass would be a better option). The new 2017 Escape is going to an electronic brake and moving the transmission selector to the side a bit to offer more storage space in the console. A welcome change! Seats are nicely padded and even for my long legs (36" inseam) offer decent support. Legroom is also very good. I have no problem finding a comfortable driving position as the seats have plenty of adjustment and the tilt and telescoping steering wheel all conspire to fit even the most oddly shaped driver. Ingress and egress are nice. Not pickup truck high or sedan low....really the "goldilocks" of heights...just right. Doors open wide and offer plenty of room for even a big guy such as myself. On many cars my backside hits the steering wheel or the B pillar when getting in, but not on the Escape. Plenty of room for those large of stature. The Sync entertainment system on the base model is not the touch screen driven system which has received so much negative press. In fact, if you get a 2016 Escape with the touch screen infotainment system, it is the new Sync3 system which is no longer made by Microsoft. Initial reviews have been very positive, but I have no first hand experience. Sound quality from the base system is, well....pretty poor. This is the case with most base level audio systems, so I'm not picking on Ford here. It's a price point audio system for sure. There are kits available to allow you to step up to an aftermarket system if you like, so if you are an audiophile, you have options. If you listen to mostly talk radio like I do...it's not a big deal and it works fine. There is bluetooth audio and hands free functions as well as USB connectivity. If you hold down the Sync button for a couple of seconds, it envokes Siri on your iPhone and even displays "Siri" on the center mounted dash display. The system works fine with no glitches, but I think Ford got a little button and menu happy. The standard AppLink integration works great and allows you to voice command many apps on your smartphone. I particularly like the AccuWeather app which will reach me the weather over the cars speakers. So far, I'm really impressed. My wife and I drove almost every CUV offering, and while some were much nicer, they had a much higher price too. A competitor worth looking at is the base model Hyundai Tucson. It's very comparable to the Escape in features and comes with a longer warranty. You can buy an Escape for less thanks to discounts.

I just purchased my 2016 Escape SE (2 L turbo) a few weeks ago and have already had it serviced twice. Apparently the car was equipped with defective plastic door and mirror moldings that warp/melt when exposed to the sun. When I say sun I am talking about 75 degree san diego sun in February. Although they've never seen this before the dealer happily replaced the passenger side door moldings and side view mirror moldings. The drivers side moldings soon warped about a week later. After replacing those I figured I was all set because I had replacement moldings straight from the factory. Unfortunately the replacement moldings warped when left out in the direct sun for a couple hours. The dealer is in the process of creating a ticket directly with Ford to figure out if there was a bad batch of moldings or if this is an inherent defect in all 2016 Escapes. I'm shocked to not see other Escape owners with the same problem. I imagine as we get closer to summer there will be a number of customers with the same molding issue. There's no point of replacing the moldings again as this would result in yet another trip to the dealer a week later. So for now, I'm stuck with a new car that looks like it just came out of a microwave. Hopefully Ford presents a solution.

I loved ford, so much so I only ever bought fords, but this is BS. I just bought a 2016 ford Escape and it's engine is suddenly just stopping. I would be going 65mph on the free way and go to try to pass someone or get over and try to accelerate just to see that my engine has shut off. All I see is a message to put it in park to start engine. It would start right back up but It has happened three times and the third almost got me smoked my a Simi, so I bring it in to Ford Dealership since it is under warranty. They keep it for two days to tell me they have no idea what is wrong with it. That it didn't happen when they drive it and there was no code popping up so they do see a problem and don't know what to tell me. PISSED is a understatement right now. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD!!!!

Well, I was on the lookout for a used Rouge and stopped at the Ford dealer. Instead of the used Rouge he drove up in a Ruby Red 2016 Escape 4wd with Stone interior and the Chrome package. Let's just say I left the Ford dealer with the Escape. As much as I paid for the Juke I can tell you the Ford is much better quality. I do not get the impression that anything about the Escape is cheaply built in any way. It has been a while since I owned a Ford and I hope this one holds up to my expectations.

Great choice. Drives like a dream. This is the Titanium and has the 2.0 Eco Boost which is not on the list above. Voice commands (Sync) are confusing especially when using navigation. Tried to tell it to nav to Ojai. Got a reply that this was not understood. I had to pull over and manually type in Ojai before the nav would work. Not really a Ford issue but thought I would mention it. Great hands free rear door that is height programmable. Important if you have a low garage door. I am disappointed about the MPG. Not what was advertised but the Escape is still new and might get better. More expensive then I wanted to spend but overall it is a great choice for a smaller SUV. My wife loves it and after all isn't that what life is about?

Just purchased the 2016 Ford Escape S basic model made in Lexington Kentucky. Was going to get the Ford Foucus which have owned and had good experience. The Escape base model is priced similar to the high end Focus. The dash boards are similar. Car is brand new so cannot report long term but think for the price it is a good buy! Not gas efficient like the Focus though.

My Model is the 2016 Escape Titanium FWD (front, not 4-wheel) 2.0 L GTDI Echoboost Engine 6-SPD Selectshift Auto Trans, with a sticker price of $33,624.99. There is a bad "shudder" in the transmission which is felt and heard when going from reverse to drive. My dealer says, after I had it in for repair 2 times, once for 4 days, "Ford Motors is aware if this ISSUE in these models. However, they are not authorizing any repairs at this time", giving me no time frame as to when a solution might be found. I only have 1200 miles on this vehicle, and owned it for less than 90 days. My dealer (Sander's Ford, Jacksonville, NC) is offering me no solution, buy back, or promise that I might be broken down on highway or what this means for my investment. Service manager referred me to the Ford Hotline Consumer line to "open a case" on my particular vehicle, this was more of the same run around that it will be fixed as soon as the engineers come up with a solution. Then told me to try coming to a complete stop and very slowly take off, and I wouldn't feel the "shudder", which I loved being told to drive it differently to accommodate their defect. I am livid with Ford Motors, and the dealership who is still selling these 2016 Escapes right now from their showrooms and lots. Are they telling buyers today that there is an "Issue" with the transmission ? Did they know of this issue when they sold me mine ? Cannot get a timeframe on how long they knew of this issue, but know I bought one of the first 2016s from Sander's Ford. Looks like I am stuck with this vehicle and at their mercy, but I surely am going to spread the word about not being told and it having a warranty that they will not or cannot use to repair transmission. Next step is going to be the BBB in our area for misrepresentation of this new vehicle, sold with a known defect. Apparently, this "Hot Line" is just a drop box for these issues until they get enough complaints, then they issue recalls. Meantime their unsuspecting buyers/customers are making payments on something that may or may not be dependable. Ford had a "better idea" so they thought, about the Pinto, which they put people off for so long that many people were burned to death..then they recalled ! Think they would learn. Don't think I will ever be happy with this car, no matter how it ends, and will never buy another Ford. Update May 2016 "Still no offer to correct, or update from Ford as to a possible solution> Not happy with Ford's lack of concern with this issue." Still no offer from Ford to correct or even a progress report on a solution November 10, 2016.
