This is a great car if your looking for excellent fuel economy and good interior and exterior styling. I'm comparing this car to my 2003 G35 which I still own and is running well. We are saving quite a bit of money on fuel costs. We are on an EV electical rate and our electric bill is $50.00 less. This is not counting the $150.00 less we are paying for gasoline. GM gave some great incentives to make the purchase affordable. 0% finanincing, $1,000 rebate. We are also eligible for a $7,500 federal tax credit and a $1,500 state credit.

Read reviews to better understand the car and technology. The base LT model met my needs. The car is all electric with range extending gasoline generator if you need it unlike other all electric vehicles. No range anxiety. In one month I put over 1,000 miles on the car and only used 3 gallons of gasoline. It's my commuter car doing 38 miles one way. Battery is rated at 54 miles but in cooler weather it is only charging between 45 - 48 miles. I recharge at work for $1.25 for the one way trip home. Car peaked out at 250+ miles/gallon based on running all electric to and from work. Three negatives, no built-in garage door opener buttons, heating system not very robust, and rear visibility is limited, but the backup camera a real plus. I am 6'2" tall and fit comfortably in this car. I installed a 240 volt charger at home and the car recharges in 4 hours. A very quiet ride and beautiful car to drive. Never thought I would own a Chevy. Drive it and if you can afford it, you will buy one!

I absolutely love the car, I haven't spent a penny on the gas yet with 1000miles on the car. Charger cost me only $495 at lowes and it take little over 4 hours to fully charged the car. So far so good can't complain about anything.

Outstanding car so far. I've been getting 60 miles electric so far but great to have the gas back-up when needed (which so far is very rare but appreciated). I was somewhat hesitant at first to buy a Chevy, as I've owned Toyotas, Hondas, and VWs, but given the tax credits and incentives, and especially when combined with home solar, it's a no brainer. Fun to drive too, and I was able to gear it up with Yakima racks, a hitch (for a bike rack), without affecting my MPGe (aside from at fast speeds on the freeway).

wireless cell phone charger epic fail

Who are the knucklehead engineers who manage to take a differentiating technology feature and make it virtually useless and a huge annoyance for owners? On a final test drive before leasing and I decided to check out this great wireless phone charger with my equipped Samsung Note 5 (no, not the one that spontaneously combusts). Firstly, the well designed phone storage slot to the right of the gearshift is NOT equipped with the wireless charger. Instead, it's located at the fore of the compartment under the armrest. If that's not annoying enough, the charger slot is not deep enough to accomodate a Samsung Note 5, or an iPhone 6 Plus for that matter. That's right, you cannot have the phone in the charger slot and close the armrest compartment. Epic design fail. To add insult to injury, even if I wanted to wirelessly charge my phone there while leaving the armrest compartment open, it won't charge through the phone's protective case. Not my thin rubber case , or the case on the Samsung 7 my salesman was carrying. Shame! I'll probably still end up leasing the vehicle, but this is as close to a dealbreaking design flaw as I've encountered in a long time. Looking forward to hearing how Chevy overlooked this one in a world where cell phones are trending larger in size.

GM Fumbles the Ball - Again

Finally test drove a Chevy Volt today. Pretty underwhelming experience. The key fob is the size of a small cell phone, reminding me of 1980s vintage remotes. There is a tremendous amount of cheap plastic, vinyl, and other substandard materials sourced from the low-end of the GM parts bin in this vehicle. Under the hood, I found lots of electrical tape and exposed wires - typical GM quality. Engine was actually assembled in Mexico. The hood has a strange overhang that obstructs part of the front windshield, creating a bathtub effect. The car has large flared fenders in the rear that make the vehicle seem as wide as a typical mid-size car, but in reality the passenger compartment is claustrophobic. Rear seat room is a complete joke. The middle seat is basically unusable. The left rear and right rear passenger seats are incredibly snug, leaving very little legroom. Passengers over 5'11" will find that the top of their heads sit less than an inch from the window in the rear hatchback. Brake feel was uneven and stopping distance was disappointingly long. Windshield wipers remind me of the Ford Fiesta or the Chevy Spark - very cheap and flexible with blades that drag across the windshield even in heavy rain. The trunk is incredibly shallow, in spite of the fact that no spare tire is provided. The only thing that impressed during the test drive was the electric drive. The powertrain operated silently and delivered acceptable performance on the highway. The 2016 Volt redesign improved a ridiculous car to the point that the vehicle is now below average. Hopefully Chevy will get this vehicle right in Gen 3, but for now I would stay away from the Volt and any other Chevrolet product.

I took delivery of my special order 2017 Volt Premier mid Sept so I've only owned it approx. 6 weeks and just turned 1000 miles. I charge it on 120 volt outlet 8 amps; and every morning but once the battery has been fully charged averaging about 62 mi EV range to start the day. I am still awaiting my condo's HOA/Board approval to install a 240v charging station. I have not burned a drop of gasoline in the 6 weeks of ownership, except for the auto Engine Maintenance Mode (EMM) where the computer ran the engine for 15 minutes after 1 mo of ownership. I love the Volt, especially all the safety features & adaptive cruise control, Bose sound system. Issues: no power driver's seat; no homelink for gate/garage opener (I had CarToys install Homelink in upper console for approx. $420 which works far better than my portable gate opener; why GM dropped homelink is hard to understand); no ceiling grab handle for driver/front passenger's seats); defrost a little weak as my car fogs up suddenly while driving even with recirculation turned off (Oct was a very wet month this year). Overall very pleased with Volt.

I owned a 2011 Prius 4 for about five years before purchasing a 2017 Volt. I loved the Prius for its fuel economy, its practicality, and its spaciousness, (felt like it had more room than the gas guzzling BMW X-3 I drove and never fell in love with years ago). Having said this, Chevy Volt is in a different class than Prius. The Volt drives like a luxury sports sedan, I get about 65 miles per charge (I've stopped at a gas station once after driving the car about 1100 miles and still have half a tank left). The controls are very intuitive, the seats are comfortable, integration of iPhone and center display is user friend, it runs very quietly with minimal cabin noise, it drives very tight, and Driver Confidence packages are great additions that are reasonably priced. The minor improvements that could make this car even better would be the addition of a Homelink device and a spare tire (many EVs don't come with spare tires anyway). The visibility is a bit limited but the Driver Confidence packages more than compensates for this. We got a screaming deal with $1000 instant rebate, $1500 California rebate, $7500 federal income tax rebate, and 0% financing. My wife has a plug in Prius 2014 and she loves driving my car now. On a global scale, it is reassuring to know that GMC has invested more than $450 million dollars on its Battery research/development/production in its Detroit plant involved in making EVs. Not only it is a reason to be proud of cars made in America, but this investment also makes me feel reassured that GMC is committed to development of EVs and will stand behind the Volt. And a green HOV lane sticker in CA saving me at least an hour a week. It cost me $25,500K, net, for a sporty sedan that beats most performance cars from 0 to 30. Almost never go to the gas station.

1200 miles and 3 gallons of gas! I have a 220aV charger in my garage from my Leaf which I sold so we drive on electric charge almost always. The android auto app is awesome for directions. Just say where your going and it comes up on the screen. Same for music, phone calls. Text messages pop up on screen and push text to voice and you hear them read. Great sound system. Not impressed with Ontario so I will cancel after free trial. Love all the safety features like blind spot warning, Lane departure, parking assist. Highly recommend this car. First American car in over 10 years. Dr. S

2017 Volt LT The ultimate commuter car

I did a lot of research and test driving before I picked the Volt. I wanted to spend the least amount of money I could on commuting everyday but do not want to sacrifice the refinement, comfort, utility and fun of a new sporty sedan. This car fit the bill almost perfectly for me. First the money: The price of the car comes out to about the same as a Prius when you factor in all the incentives (dealer and government). In my opinion after driving them both I would pay $5000 more than for a Prius still feel I got a good value. If you usually would go under 100 miles or so between charges your energy costs are going to be lower than any other hybrid currently in the market with the Volt. Since my total commute between charges is about 50 miles I only use electricity, the cheapest energy available to me. In my area the power company also gave me a check for $300 (free commuting for a year!) and a lower power rate overnight when charging my Volt. Refinement and Comfort: The Volt does better in this area than the compact/sub compact hybrids like the Prius and C-Max Hybrids (that to me are just a chore to drive), but not quite as good as the larger Fusion and Sonata Hybrids. Ultimately this will depend on taste and what you expect from your car but for me I have been use to bigger luxury type cars for a while so this was important to me. The smooth quiet commute, technology and integration with my Android Phone (it has it for Apple as well) sold me. Utility: Paying only for cheaper electricity for my commute is great, knowing I could still go unlimited miles or over big hills with no hassle when needed is even better. This is what turned me off to a electricity only (EV) car. Also being big enough to fit all of my family (4) easily was also important to me, even though I would use this car almost exclusively for daily commutes and short trips around town. Finally the Fun: I think this is what put me over the edge with this car, it is actually fun to drive. Quick, smooth acceleration and reasonable grip (probably due to batteries creating a low center of gravity). All in all, it is my ultimate commuter car.

Fuel and electric miles so far are about 15% lower for both than shown on the sticker. I've let the dealership know but haven't received an answer, I'm hoping the range gets better as the system learns to approximate better. Everything else has been great, it's quiet, comfortable, quick and easy to drive.

This is the most misunderstood car out there. I recently sold my Camry and got this. I absolutely love this car. Enjoy every moment of driving. I use 11.3. kWh to commute 58 miles a day. It still had 15 miles left (in CA climate)

Now have over 2,000 miles on my 2017 LT Volt in just about 6 weeks and averaging 61 miles per charge, best so far 78 (!!!). This during the summertime in CA, running the AC. Does best in town, setting the cruise at 65 will drain the battery quicker. Solid, fun car to drive with great throttle response, quiet, comfortable and the only gas I've burned has been on a 4 hr drive to Tahoe. In fact it's been nearly 500 miles since I used a drop of gas. My solar panels produce power during the peak hours and I get credited 34 cents/kilowatt, then charge at night for 14 cents/kilowatt. I like driving for free.

I own a 2013 Volt as well as a new 2017premier. Someone who makes decisions at Chevy is not driving theVolt. If they were some of the items I would have liked on my 2013 and what changed on the 2017 are.......2013 no power seats, really gas mileage????.....Everyone does not need or want Sirius radio crap......2017 with limited vision to the outside of the car why did they get rid of the small window in trunk, it didn't help much, but it was nice to view something to see outside instead of a dark cave....again no power seats, shame on Chevy, Chevy took away the garage buttons, did GM run out of parts, side mirrors seem smaller, I still do not want Sirius radio, no cd player(Chevy, people still have CD's),music storage on the usb could have a better system to present the song titles and playlists, Chevy cut back the Onstar service from 3years to 6 months, Chevy charging $995 for Pearls paint, but it looks exactly like white (our 2013 was a beautiful Pearl color), I like the touch buttons better than the manual buttons for volume and fan, the airflow settings are confusing, you have to press multiple combinations of buttons to get the correct flow setting, the speedometer setup is hidden by the steering wheel, it could have been placed a little lower, Chevy forces you to purchase items installed by the dealer, anyone want to purchase a$595 extension cord? and last I liked the individual look of the 2013 body, the 2017 looks like so many other cars on the road

I purchased the 2017 Volt Premier with safety packages 1 and 2 after owning a 2013 Volt for 3 years. The first Volt i owned was fabulous, no breakdowns and superb mpg, and I couldn't wait for the new model. As other professional and consumer reviews have reported, the new model is an upgrade in almost every way, which says a lot since the first generation model was so good. I drive mostly in the city and can go almost all electric with 50+ miles per charge. The charge seems to last longer in hot weather than my previous Volt. It has been 100 degrees the last few days and the AC has been strong and not using high amounts of the charge. The car rides quietly, smoothly, and corners nicely.Even the gas engine is more quiet than the earlier model. The Sport mode is fun to drive (and provides excellent acceleration when needed.) Overall, the car is much quicker on acceleration. The technology is superb, whether entertainment or safety. The technology interface has been cleaned up and is more intuitive, with the plethora of buttons reduced. I would recommend getting both safety packages; they were $500 each and well worth the additional money. The Volt does have blind spots in the rear because of the small deck window and the side because of the headrests, so the safety packages seem almost necessary. This is a great car and I am so pleased with it.. Here are a few small items, good and bad, you might want to be aware of: 1. The garage door opener was eliminated on the 2017. Really? What were they thinking? Garages aren't used anymore? For a car that is technologically sophisticated this is the most backward change. 2. My previous interior was pebble beige and it held up well and did not show dirt or marks. The 2017 I own has a black interior and the plastic shows marks and smudges much more. Any touch of the hand or scuffing the door kick panel leaves a mark. Be prepared to detail the inside of your car more. 3. The regeneration lever is awesome and makes driving more fun. 4. Putting the steering wheel volume buttons for the stereo on the back side of the wheel was brilliant. Your fingers can naturally rest there and it is easier to manipulate the buttons. 5. On the 2013 if you needed to put the back seats down to haul something, you could not have the front seats back fully because the back headrests would strike the front seat in the down position. There is more space now and the front seats do not interfere when the back seats are down. On top of that, the front seats now feel like they have more leg room. Chevy has taken care of all the big items and dramatically improved an already good car. I love my Volt!

The 2017 Volt is truly a second generation car. Whereas the first generation was unique, the second generation is more in line with the latest generation Chevrolet vehicle/setup. The improvements are obvious . . . longer range, quicker, brake paddle, regular fuel, and technology. Unfortunately, they took out a couple of nice things like the HomeLink, side mirror signals, and rear door pockets. BUT I'm still very pleased with the 2017 especially the range and BRAKE PADDLE. These cars are fun to drive and they are reliable. Other than the cord recall back in 14 and the software update in 15, I have not had one issue . . . plus much less gas and much less maintenance. My wife has the 2014 and loves it. Keep up the good work on the Volt. I will add/update to the review after a year but if this model performs in line with my 2012 and my wife's 2014, it will continue to receive high marks.

My second Volt. 2013 was very good and I averaged 94 mpg but the 2017 is superior in every way. Drives like a bmw 5 series. Styling exterior and interior is greatly improved. After 1 week on electric I'm showing 61 miles w charge. Drove 600 miles first day and averaged 46 mpg driving on reg gas. Dash and controls are intuitive and easy to use. Interior fit and finish is very good. Leather seats excellent. Could not find one in stock in Dallas.

This is my second Volt. I owned 4 Prius vehicles prior to my first volt. I traded my prius for the premiere 2012 Gen1 and loved the car, but having owned the 2017 premier Volt for 2 months, I'm blown away with the greatly improved Gen2. I just fill my gas tank after driving 2027 miles. The electric range is greatly improved and routinely get far better than the rated 53 mpg by GM. Since its only my wife and I, the back seat is never used, so the 5th seat doesn't matter to us. The 2 rear bucket seats are great for the grandkids with the center 5th seat excellent for a child seat. The Gen2 premier is packed full of electronics and safety features. I have the comfort package 1 and 2, ambient lighting that my wife just loves and the radio/nav package. The apple carplay is also a very nice feature if you own a IPhone 5 or newer. If you don't have or want the GM nav feature, CarPlay maps works really well for navigation. I am extremely pleased with the Gen2 and have no complaints.

Given my lifestyle, having now about 1600 miles on my 2017 volt, my cumulative MPG is at 197. Try getting that with any Prius-like parallel hybrid (the Volt is a sophisticated Series-Hyrbid; oly design that makes sense, similar to a desil-electric railroad locomotive). And, i do not even hve a 240 volt charging station installed yet; I'm doing 8 or 12 AMP (easily selectable) 120 volt charging. Once you deal with a moderate learning curve, the 2017 Volt is very well set up in every way. I love mine. -- Paul J. Watson, ABQ, NM, USA.

Pro's Value is outstanding so far. It drives and feels like a luxury sedan. It is more fun to drive than my Audi. Electric torque is exhilarating... It's not a Tesla but one third the price. I personally like the new body styling. Cons: Visability is not great making the driver packages I and II both a must. Also, most dealerships don't seem to know much about the car. Mine was left in "transport mode" WHICH SHUTS OFF HALF OF ALL THE ELECTRONICS. The internet helped to rectify this Update: November 17, 2016 I have now had the car for five months and love it more every day. I'm getting between 55 and 58 miles on electric charge and unlike pure electric vehicles, this car travels easily long distances when the gasoline engine starts. I'm really at a loss to explain why they're not more of them on the road

The technology and lines in this car are excellent. The handling and pick up are really good knowing that is not a sport car. The back seats are not as comfortable as the front ones, but I do not use them. First gas fill was at 1,500 miles with only 7.5 gals. I enjoy driving this car.

We leased the 2013 Volt three years ago and absolutely loved the car and the concept. Our lease was up and we had to explore our options. I absolutely loved the 2013 Volt. Only thing wrong with it is the manual seat adjust until we found out what our buyout option would be. To purchase would be over $10K higher than current fair market value of a 2013 Volt with less than 30K miles. So.. we decided to look at the 2017 models, and sad we leased it. What's worse on 2017: - No reporting of how much energy you are currently using or generating while driving, the 2013 model reported that info right on the driver display. - A real-time visual gauge to let you know whether you are driving efficiently. - Poor rear view visibility. The 2013 model had a small window in the hatchback where the newer "redesign" does not. You only see the tops of cars behind you. - No backup sensor to alert you when you are about to hit something. - NO HOMELINK to open my garage door or gate. What's up with that GM? I had to go out and buy a universal remote to open my garage and hang it off my visor like all cheap cars in the past. Poor execution GM! - Less storage. 2013 model had more storage in the dash, on top, and in the center console. Storage in rear passenger doors. - Poor center console display. It is now angled up so that you see a glare on the screen anytime you are driving during the day. The 2013 did not have the poor angle with a lip over the display to shield it from the sun. - Annoying sound from the engine compartment. Anytime the car is in drive or reverse you hear the annoying sound. You do not hear this from the 2013 model. - Hatchback trunk area storage is smaller than 2013. -Overall quality, everything on the 2017 is just cheaper. The visors (not lighted), controls, and more. What/s better with 2017 model: - Regen paddle on the steering wheel to generate power and slow the vehicle down. - Design of controls on the dash is better with 2017. On the 2013 they were a massive collection of touch controls, of which at first seems futuristic until you keep accidently touching the wrong one. Overall, very disappointed in GM and extremely upset with Ally the previous company used to lease the car. I used to recommend this car to everyone I talked too, I now need to go back and apologize to anyone who purchased a recent model. The whole reason to buy this car is for the electric so as to be energy efficient. All tools to help with driving efficiently in real time have been removed. I am no longer fan, sorry GM.

I just purchased a 2017 Volt and its so superior to my old Honda, its far and away a better vehicle. The car is so nice to drive and I have owned it for 4 weeks and still have half the original tank of gas the dealer gave me with the purchase. I have a 240 volt charger and it takes 3.5 hours to go from depleted to charged. I am a new owner to a plug-in but so pleased with the car, the looks have people impressed and asking questions. So far with mostly electric miles I am getting a 90+ mpg, I make lots of shorter trips. I also like the re-gen brakes, I travel down a longer grade and gain about 5 to 8 miles of electric power.

I leased a 2013 Volt for 3 years, being unsure of the new technology. I purchased my 2017 Volt 5 weeks ago and I can truly say that the Gen 2 model is better in every way over the Gen 1. The silky smooth acceleration of the electric drive is intoxicating. The 53 miles of EV range meets my driving needs perfectly. I expect to buy gas only once a year.

I bought a brand new, fresh off the truck, 2017 Chevy Volt Premier, most all options. It broke down, suddenly, with a lot of popping sounds, smells, multiple malfunctions, dead engine and rapid deceleration. I was on the freeway with no shoulder. The car had only 140 miles and it was the first time the gas engine came on. Chevy says they fixed it and it appears to run like it should, which is fantastic. If it goes a couple thousand without the defect(s) recurring, then I would assume it was a fluke. Otherwise, I could argue it is the best car, it most important measures, made.

We had the car for 10 days, 777 miles, had to have it towed twice. Propulsion system malfunction, towed home, did not have it placed close to garage, because we thought we could drive it 20 ft, would not go forward, slipped back, we have a 90ft drive way on incline, slipped back into grass. We left it there overnight, plugged in the car in the morning, still could not move it. Had it towed to Chevy garage,they called next afternoon and said the electronic module that drives car had gone out. Good news GM Said they could get a new one. I paid $37,000 for a car and it already has something wrong. Doesn't give us good feelings, maybe should have bought another Honda, we have had four all had over 100,000 miles with no problems. We really liked the car for the first nine days, hope everything works out. GM bought it back and returned all my money. Bought a Honda Accord.

Picked up our 2017 Volt at the end of the month. This is replacing our 2013. Like the way it handles and the power seems pretty good for this size vehicle. Had the car for a couple of weeks. Michigan has been gloomy and not to sunny. Finally had a sunny day and had car washed. While wiping down the door jambs and other areas with some detailing solution noticed something peculiar. This car is Black Metallic with black interior. What I noticed was that the yellow primer was showing thru the paint ! Upon further inspection found the following items. Primer was visible along drivers rocker panel. Driver rear door; all around body to door seal, primer was visible. All the hinge areas were not painted. Pretty much every where you looked there was the primer showing. All areas where body panels joined, no paint. Now, one would expect a $40,000 car to have somewhat of a decent paint finish. Not this one ! Immeadiately took it to dealer. After some discussion got the following input. Paint department ," Well if it was my car, I wouldn't do anything, can't see it too much." Reminded him it wasn't his car nor money ! Then someone called GM, I think, not sure but got this remark. " If you can't see it in natural light then it's OK." If this is the quality GM and the dealer would like to pursue, well they better drop the price about $10,000 - $15,000. When I buy a new car my expectation is I get a new car. Not one that needs repair as soon as you take it ! In all fairness GM Assistance is looking into this problem. Should I hold my breath ?

My wife's 2008 Prius was getting rather old, so we went shopping in late 2015 for all kinds of cars. We wanted something that was environmentally friendly, and reasonably priced (for a hybrid or electric). My wife drives about 2 times a week over 100 miles a day, so that ruled out a pure electric vehicle due to the lack of range. I saw the new Prius at the Detroit auto show, and was put off by the weird spacey design. From expert reviews, it seemed that Toyota was aiming more for high MPG numbers than striking a balance between performance, handling and comfort. I was intrigued by the upcoming Chevy Malibu Hybrid. The non-hybrid version that came out recently got very good reviews in the automotive press. After seeing them at the Chevy dealer, my wife thought it was a little too big for her. The kids are grown and out of the house, and the back seat would be empty 95% of the time, so the Volt is fine for us. I read many of the glowing technical editor reviews of the 2016 Chevrolet Volt. Even magazines like Car and Driver who seem to only lust after exotic performance cars seemed to really like the new Volt. The more I read, the more we wanted to test drive one. Then we realized that only certain states were going to get the limited 2016 Volt deliveries. Living in Delaware, our state was not on the list, so we waited some more for the 2017's which were going to be produced starting in Feb 2016 for all 50 states. While waiting, I also did a little more research on the $7500 Federal Credit, but I also found that there was a (very) limited $2200 rebate offered from Delaware for certain qualified electric vehicles (it's almost gone, so hurry!). Delaware also offers up to a $500 rebate for the car "charger" or EVSE in the electric lingo. So the almost $10K in help from Federal and state made the final cost to us VERY reasonable. (Price shown below is full cost without help) So when the first batch of Volts hit Delaware, we test drove one. We were hooked. We've had it for about 3 weeks, and we are extremely happy and delighted with the car. For most trips around town, we use 100% electric. There is very good power at city speeds due to the torque of the 2 electric motors. We live in a college town with hundreds of zombie kids staring at cell phones while crossing the street. I was concerned that one would blindly walk into us while we were in silent electric mode, but GM installed a "white noise" speaker that makes some fake mechanical robot noise below 25mph, that hopefully lets pedestrians (and my cats) know we are in gear. We did take a long trip to DC, with about 3 hours of driving on the engine. The engine starts unobtrusively, and is not very loud. I can feel slight vibration that lets me know it's on, but I was looking for it. Most people probably wouldn't know when it switches over to the engine. We now have 1100 miles on the car, with some long trips (engine on), and we are averaging overall now about 90 mpg combined. Of course, running with the engine on all the time (you can force it on to hold battery charge or to get quick cabin heat), it's not as efficient as a Prius, as we've seen about 43 mpg from the engine only. But the combined of about 90 mpg without worrying about range is awesome. Driving dynamics are much better than our old Prius. The car feels and sounds very solid. It handles rough pavement without much noise, and with good control. With all the battery and engine weight, it's not a light car, but it never feels heavy. The electric steering is very good with nice feel. When braking slightly, the motors act as generators feeding juice back to the battery, and if you press harder, the friction brakes come on. It feels a little non-linear, but it’s fine. The 110V charger (EVSE) that the car comes with is very slow to charge as it defaults to a safer 8 amp charge so as to not cause electric problems in your house that may have poor wiring. This takes forever to charge (~19 hours for full charge?) You can set the 110V EVSE to supply 12 amps but you have to keep re-setting it in the car's dash screen which is very annoying, and it's still very slow to charge. (~13 hours for full charge?). So with the $500 credit Delaware offers, I bought a Clipper Creek 24 Amp "Level 2" or 240V EVSE, with a dryer plug on the end. I had a 240V line run to the garage with the added benefit of being able to run my 240V welder from the dryer plug when not charging the car by simply unplugging the EVSE. Anyway, all that was definitely worth it. The Volt now charges within 4.5 hours max from empty. Buy it. The car is highly recommended. UPDATE SEPT 2016. We've had the car for 8 months now. We love it even more than before. No mechanical issues with the car, and it still drives great and quiet. Our combined MPG is over 105 mpg now as most of our trips are pure electric. We noticed that when it's warm outside, the range is more like 55 miles before the engine starts.
