(1) Navigation only available when car is stopped. Firmware developer incorrectly assumed only the driver would be using the navigation system. Car must be completely stopped even if passenger is entering a navigation point. (2) USB port does not read folders at all, and reads file names incorrectly. If a drive has two folders, for example: Bob and Alice, the 2016 Avalon system puts all the files together. Even the old 2013 Tacoma trucks could correctly read folder and files correctly. (3) The touch-screen buttons are misaligned, forcing the user to press the return button half a dozen times before the current screen returns to the previous screen. (3) The paint on the bumper is paper thin. Even a gentle bump and you've got a hole in the paint. And the extended warranty for scratches does not cover paint.

What an aggravating interior. ABSOLUTELY no front storage,you have to use the storage under the arm rest..what a pain,the navigation is useless as is the stereo.The ride is no better than my 2009 camry.Nothing to write home about...I do not enjoy driving this car..as matter of fact,it stays garaged and I drive my camry

First Avalon and I am really surprised how well this car is made, designed and performs. Went from V6 Camry to this and this is what the Camry should be. Fit, finish, comfort, performance are all excellent or better. Car looks great (though the grill could be smaller). If your looking for a entry level luxury sedan midsize or larger, this is a perfect fit. Plus Toyota reliability is what keeps me coming back.

I highly recommend the Avalon with it's high-quality ride comfort the materials. This is truly in your luxury at a price that is reasonable. While missing the Lexus badge- get the feeling that you have not skimped. In comparison to Honda's and Hyundai's tech / connectivity options you make some sacrifices - but you make up for it with the quality of materials which will be timeless.

IIHS rated the camry (Toyota rep said the Camry was the model for the Avalon) as unacceptable for headlights on turns and the accident prevention technology for the 25 mph test did not stop the car, only slowed it to 20 mph. Maybe the 2017 Avalon itself will be tested and by mid year Toyota would have up fixed these problems

Toyota is a great car dont get it wrong. But the 2016 Avalon is overpriced! For the price it should be easier to enter and exit, cant tell you the number of times my head has been banged, hard as i am entering it! The passenger front seat does not allow the seat to to raise low/high as the drivers side. When traveling in rain the windshield wipers are dangerously slow in clearing the windshield in a heavy downpour. Overpriced for the the benefits that are as important to me as the manufactuers stated benefits.

Just traded my 2012 Toyota Camry for this 16 Avalon. This is my 3rd Toyota since 07. Toyota is just the best in reliability . I opted for the XLE. No need for sunroof and navigation. I have smart phone and blue tooth for that. What sold me was the incredible interior and comfort of this vehicle. Nice quiet cabin. As for exterior, I'm loving the body lines and especially the rear. The front bumper with the large grille is the only downside to this great looking car, but it wasnt a deal breaker for me. I was a little surprised that remote start wasn't standard on the base Avalon. Oh well, got the dealer to throw it in with the deal. Top it off with 0 % financing it was an easy decision for me.

I wasn't really looking at an Avalon, but I recalled them looking sharp, so I did an Edmunds price check and the quotes coming back from dealers were surprisingly low for a Toyota, add to that a $2500 rebate, I ended up getting a Premium $7,000 off msrp. It's very peppy but maintains 26 mpg in mixed driving. All the technology goodies are there but they're just clunky or non-intuitive or slow. I've only had it a month, so I can't provide any long term guidance. The ride is quiet and smooth, and while i haven't taken it out over back roads, it doesn't seem to have an overly soft suspension. The 9 speaker sound system is better than what i had prior, but still lacks true punch. You need to get the limited (+ $6,000) for the JBL sound. The fit and finish of the inside has a very high end feel, EXCEPT the glove compartment door and the sunroof shade (both surprisingly flimsy). At the end of the day, getting a car of this size with leather, sunroof, heated seats, navigation, smart phone integration, driver seat memory settings, auto climate control, V6, blind spot warning system, and 9 speaker sound for under $31k is great. You couldn't do better in the Accord, Impala, Maxima, Lexus and maybe even Buick for that price point.

We have only had our Avalon a short time. At present we truly love the comfort and overall performance of the vehicle. We believe we made a great choice. It will likely take a while to get used to how to work the Entune using voice commands but we are working at it.

Avalon # 4.... Great, comfortable, dependable, good travel car. Each year, some of the extras are removed such as door pockets, rear seat pockets and small trim which make the car less premium but still more for the money than a Lexus.... Regular gas, and never owned a Toyota that used any oil.

And this is one of the best. I've owned a 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2012 and now this 2016. You may notice I have these in order and the 2013 comes before the 2012, and that's because I trade the 2013 in with 3500 miles on it, for the 2012, why because like so many others, I found it loud and uncomfortable, but I loved the car and what it offered, so I waited around for them to up-grade the suspension, and they did this year. So far I love the car and for all the right reasons (for me) Looks, Comfort, Style and more. While I have only had it a few days (196 miles), yes it could follow the 2013, but so far, Not going to happen. The tech stuff is great albeit a bit confusing and not as easy to use as I'd hoped, but cool nonetheless. The car was special ordered with the 17" wheels, Blue exterior, Almond interior, Body Side Molding, Door Edge Guards, Illuminating door sills, bumper appliqué, Lower Body Molding, Locking Wheel nuts and carpet and mat kits. More to follow, but WAY nicer a rise and comfort then the 2013 and from what others have said the 2014 and 2015

I love this car, but the dealership was so bad and tried to contact the owner and no response. Toyota corporate makes it that you can only talk to very low level people and the company does not call you back or email you about your issues. I later paid the Toyota Finance off and they told me it would take up to 30 business days to get the title. Are you kidding me. I finally got them to fax a lean release letter to my DMV so I can pay $50 for a new title to allow me to transfer my antique replica tags and able to give the title to the new owner that I sold the car to. They told me the are even 9 days in back log. I never had this kind of problems when I owned a Honda. When I take my car to the dealer for even an oil change it is given to me with grease smuges on the paint. At Honda they wash the car. Never again. If they called be and apologized it might be okay, but it seems that Toyota just does not even care what their customers think or how they are treated. Great product but that is not everything when you own a car.

Tire wear is expected to be about 24000 due to the nature of the tires the car is equipped with. It takes some time to learn the various in dash systems. A lot of information is available if you know how to access it. This is our third Avalon (we have owned other cars too) and consider the Avalons to be the best value for the dollar spent. Our Avalon is a road car as well as an around the town vehicle - so interior and trunk space is important.

i did a 5,000 mile road trip and this car is our primary daily driver so I can give more than an initial impression now. Again ours is a limited hybrid not the V6 (my wife insists on high mpg). Driving thru Montana and Idaho at 90+ I can say the car did fine. I wouldn't want to race an NSX but even at those speeds I was getting 39 mpg which continues to surprise me for a car this size. The road feel is solid and the handling while not precise still has a hint of German influence. The steering however will not remind you of a German car but , more of an old Avalon. Having the hybrid does limit trunk space which can be a problem if you are taking a long road trip with four adults and ladies who like to pack for all occasions. The voice recognition is good but I still find it struggles with street addresses. It's fine for basic commands and phone pairing is easy. I am a fairly sophisticated user in that I often have two phones and an iPad that I switch back and forth on. I also stream Spotify, audio books and my iTunes library if you aren't media intensive you probably won't notice the system limitations. Apple play and updated apps would be appreciated. I would have preferred an even more upscale audio system but I understand that it's a Toyota not a luxury brand. The safety features are very good and while I initially thought I wouldn't use them I find I miss them when I am driving my other car. In fact I will trade that car (2012 Edge limited) in sooner than expected to get these features on my other car. From a maintenance perspective we had one issue that was a faulty LED strip in one of the front headlights. It took a couple of weeks to get the part but it was not a hassle. Fit and finish seems good and overall the materials are nice depending on what you are comparing them too. Are they A8 or Continental grade no but this vehicle sells for a fraction of the cost of those .

I absolutely love everything about this car. The handling is excellent with three selectable modes including a sport mode that is perfect for the mountain roads in northern California. Fit and finish are perfect. The JBL stereo is wonderful as are all the amazing electronic features. This model comes with HID headlamps that provide a razor sharp light beam and I am still trying to figure out how the car decides to turn on the automatic high beams. It is comfortable, roomy and fun to drive. I test drove the Chevy Impala and the Chrysler 300 before driving the Avalon. This was no contest. I have owned a couple of dozen new cars in my lifetime. The Avalon Limited is by far the best vehicle I have ever owned or driven. Oh, did I mention that all maintenance is included for two full years ?

After enjoying success in a new career, my employers encouraged me to splurge and get something new. I had my heart set on an Altima, as that is usually what I'll rent when I head out of town. I test drove a new 2015 Limited, and loved it, but with 0% financing on the 2016 models, despite a higher cost than the 2015, my touring came out with a lower monthly payment and had some features (Qi charging) that wasn't on the 2015 model. I just had to give up the seat cooler. It's a beautiful car, but inside, it's even better. I have no comparisons to what this is - I tell my friends it's not a car, it's a 268 horsepower leather appointed computer with a sunroof. With my keys in my pocket, the interior lights turn on when I walk up to it; the door opens when I pull on the handle, and it locks itself when I walk away. It's so quiet that I approached it after doing some shopping and noticed exhaust coming out the tailpipes (which are reminiscent of pipes on high end sports cars) but I couldn't hear it running. It handles, great acceleration - If you're into sports cars, fellas, you'll get your wish and make her happy too. Room for your tall grown children in the back. I'm a tall guy, fairly wide, and I find this thing a breeze to get into and out of (much easier than my truck). The trunk is big; I'm still learning how to use a navigation system and wishing it was android. Pandora, Slacker, iHeart radio... I sent my boss a text from the system and he laughed (As it was tagged "Sent from Toyota Avalon"). The stereo itself may just need some tweeking from me, as that is where I cite my only fault, but really, I guess I could always add in aftermarket speakers and amps.

Touring IS Stiff, but others are NOT

Just don't do what I did, and base your decision on the Touring model. It is designed by Toyota to be much stiffer suspension then the Limited and others. I drove both and the Touring model was like my 2013, Very nice, but way to stiff and uncomfortable for my and my wife, but the Limited, now that's a horse of a different color. Much more like the Avalons of old, not as smooth / comfortable, but very close, and the tech stuff is real nice, to bad at this time you have to get a Limited to get all the goodies.

I am enjoying the new Avalon. Very nice quite ride. I don't use the ride adjustment button, mainly just stay in econo mode. Despite the 21mpg rating I am getting about 25mpg which I like. Entune stereo and Nav is not as good as I expected. The stereo is an upgrade but it doesn not have much depth to the sound. Comfortable. Adults who have ridden in the back have said there is plenty of leg room. I have less than 1000 miles so I can't say much about reliability but I have not had any issues. Was able to negotiate below the average Edmunds price for the vehicle.

This car is for small people, very uncomfortable, compared to 2006 toyota avalon xle, electrical compartment on the left side of the driver side won't let you spread out left feet. Seat is hard.

I have owned 3 new Avalons - 2003, 2007, 2011 - so a new 2016 was supposed to be a no brainer. Just to be sure, I test drove the Touring model. Getting into the "cockpit" style seat immediately removed the sense of space that had been prominent in previous models. Everything on the interior seemed compressed. I think this is to facilitate access from a seat that limits movement. The ride was stiff and uncomfortable on city streets. The trunk is cavernous but mostly inaccessible since the roofline cuts off approximately 2/3 of open access. Even the salesman commented on current Avalon owners' disappointment with the redesigned model.

To Avalon from Lexus and mostly happy

The front end disappears behind the hood. With the seats all the way up I still can't see where the front of the car is and I have perfect depth perception. Backing this car to park is actually easier with the back-up camera display, so that's become the preferred parking method. The Touring has a much meaner look than the XLs or Limited because of the large frowning grill. At first I was not impressed with its look, especially with the grill extending beyond the drivers field of vision but the look grows on you. The Opera windows in the rear end in an upward point which resembles the Lexus ES 350, VW or Benz . While this is an improvement over the box look of older Avalons it just doesn't seem quite right and may have been better had the top line of the window swung down rather than up. The car I owned previously was a 2006 Lexus GS300 with 164840 miles on it and with valve and head gasket problems on two cylinders ran so smooth I wasn't aware of a problem. The Lexus also had a Vehicle Control Unit (VCU) which failed during connection with a DMV Smog Check Tester. The VCU had to be repaired before the smog test could be started ($3300 with to OX sensors as well) plus $8500 for the engine repair. I'd been waiting in the showroom for the diagnosis and was seriously impressed with a Avalon Limited. It was $7000 more than the next level Touring, mostly due to aftermarket high end 18 inch wheels and wider tires. I previously owned a 2003 Avalon XL and put 130,000 miles on it in three years. It ran excellently until the day I traded it in on the Lexus, which was a major step up. This Touring version is sportier and has some unique technology and styling but it is not a GS-300 but it certainly is much cheaper yet, in my opinion, quite similar in quality and performance with the LEXUS. The Midnight Black paint has a very deep blue and silver metal flake, which when it catches the light, makes the car sparkle as if it had facets. The interior three color scheme is a bit of a knock off of a Mercedes. All the Touring models come with the paddle shifters, black wood grain accents, faux leather steering wheel, which isn't as pretty as a wood accented steering wheel but it will be much better when summer comes around. The back seat can accommodate a six foot person with room to spare. There is no hump in the middle of the bnack seat because of the front wheel drive, so there is room to move your legs around and get comfortable. The pull down center armrest is poorly appointed. There is no strap to pull it down and the built in cup holders are cheap looking plastic of the same color of the seats rather than the chrome lined, accent colored ones in the front seat. That seemed a rather petty downgrading in my opinion. I'm getting about 19 mpg average in town but I'm going no further than a few miles on suburban streets for the most part. the vehicle got 34 mpg average on the freeway. Nodody is going to turn their heads and give you an oh Wow look, unless it's another grandpa looking for his own new boat with some vroom to it.

This is the second Avalon I have owned. I bought a Lexus the last time but chose the Avalon Limited over the Lexus ES 350. Better ride than Lexus. Love the interior and the power it has.

Overall, I think Toyota did a nice revamp of the Avalon. My issue with the Nav system is I feel it isn't as user friendly as some of the dash mount products. Could be I just need more time to get familiar with the location of settings. Really like my new car.

I got out of a 2014 Chevy Silverado LTZ Crew Cab and I know what a truck like vehicle rides like. The 2016 Avalon I have rides quite smoothly and is very quiet. Acceleration is surprising for the engine size and amount of horsepower and the interior is pleasant on the eyes. The main display screen is good looking and displays actual album art in good quality. The seat is comfortable and very adjustable. Brakes are very capable and give good feedback as does the steering, the front wheel drive aspect takes some getting used to but it's not bad. The back seat is roomy and personable with A/C controls for passenger comfort. Overall I'm completely satisfied with the car. I wanted a Lexus but didn't want to travel three hours, round trip, to the dealership.

The 4th generation 2012 -16 Avalons has the ride comfort of a bouncing ping pong ball. Just terrible...most large sedans also have re engineered suspensions to give a much stiffer ride but Avalon wins the award for having the ride and seat comfort of a hay wagon. Avoid it like the plague if you are looking for a comfortable large size sedan.

Toyota had a great car that has lost appeal

My vehicle was delivered to me with an electrical system problem that took technicians 3 days to diagnose and repair. The front passenger door does not close properly and new I need to make an appointment for that. Seats are comfortable but the ride is very stiff and feels like a truck type vehicle. 6 months later, Toyota has not yet provided a solution to the problem with the Bluetooth based navigation. They selected the software provider which has worthless support and Toyota has stuck their head in the sand on this issue.

Touring model is the perfect mix
