Never EVER thought I'd own one!

Had a 2010 Nissan Rouge with 140k miles when the CVT transmission went. NOTE: Previous vehicles were a Lexus and Infiniti - now more value conscious. Narrowed search down to: Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, Toyota Highlander, and the Subaru Forester. When looking at the Forester I drove the Outback and was sold immediately. Post two months of average use and one 1,500 mi. road trip, its actually beat all expectations. EyeSight rocks! Came loaded with everything except the keyless entry - still have to put the key in which is a minor annoyance. Have the green exterior with light color cloth seats which I'm somewhat concerned about keeping clean. Cargo space and access (to) are exceptional. Front seats are very supportive. Cargo and back of the back seat protective mats come in handy. Am looking at purchasing the black plastic wheel arches. Tips: Spray glass cleaner onto a cloth rather than directly onto the inside of the windshield so as not to get any cleaner on the EyeSight cameras. Have Subaru tech walk you thru EVERY button and its use - they can be "quirky". When using the UBS cord with your phone, don't expect to keep the cover closed - it'll really crimp (the cord). Don't attempt to run it on empty nor "overfill" when fueling. The performance information provides all that you'll need. Can't wait until the first snow!

Replacing a mid-size sedan for something with utility for an active lifestyle. Enter the new 2016 Subaru Outback. With limited inventory, selection was few so I settled on a 2.5 Limited model with every bell and whistle including all of the aftermarket options. Hindsight, 16k miles later, I should have opted for the 3.6 without the bells and whistles. The key-less/proximity entry/ start is a pain in the ass in that I have no way to hide this giant remote while I surf or scuba dive which impacts doing anything with the water; the standard key would have been far more functional for me. I am finding the rear auto opener isn't so great when I have something extra long and sticks out. Regarding the Navigation system, it is crap. It is a Tom-tom and even in Southern California, there are places/cities that aren't even in the database. Google/Yahoo maps on your phone is far more reliable. And that takes me to the voice activation. It rarely recognizes anything I say unlike iPhone's Suri. As far as mechanical, I have been very pleased though I wish breaking wasn't so soft or the engine were the 3.6 so it had some immediately available acceleration for passing and hills. But all and all, it has not been a lemon outside of the navigation system, crossing fingers. Again, just go for the base models.

I purchased my 2016 Subaru Outback in September of 2015. After about 5 months a strange noise started to occur from the back of the car for which I thought was the muffler. The noise was intermittent so the dealership could not diagnose the problem but told me to premium gas, fuel additive as it could be engine pinging. Finally they did hear the noise and stated it was very loud evaporator pump for which they were going to replace. After picking up the car, they had changed out the evaporator valve assembly and added extra insulation. The noise is still ongoing and the noise has waken my baby up from a sleep, made people come outside from their camping trailers where fans were on to heat, but again I am too sensitive and am hearing this. To this point there has been no resolve, and now run the risk of loosing thousands of dollars if I have to get rid of the car. I have reached out to Subaru America with minimal help outside of listening and still no resolve or true assistance. The local dealership is trying all they can but are at the point looking to National Subaru to help diagnose or provide guidance which appears to be lacking. People like the look of the car and the features for which I agreed with but tell them my issues and they have moved onto look at other cars.

Good pricing on high end 2016 at end of model year. Loaded with features, great value. Interior is very comfortable with nice finishes. Safety is superb, full-time AWD hugs the ground in rain and snow. Good visibility. Lane alert, active stopping, and blind spot alerts are great.

Near perfect except seat comfort

This is my 2nd Outback. 1st being a '13 which I traded at 80k miles due to seat discomfort & it did use some oil. The '16 is improved in many areas. Now at 21k miles. While the driver's seat is much better, it isn't flawless. The upper back support annoys me. It seems many car manufacturers think they have to angle the upper portion of the seat forward. While some brands maintain a nice straight seat back. (I notice on many Ford's & a Mazda 6 I drove). At 6' 207lbs., this creates a pressure point on my spine & bugs me after longer trips. I wish subaru would collaborate with Toyota or another brand who understands seat comfort better. The headrests ratchets but still too eager, I flipped it backwards like I did on my '13. (normal aging promotes forward neck posture enough being forced by modern day cars). The hi beam illumination on my '13 were way better on than on my '16. I almost think the '13 had better grip in deep snow but had only 1 experience in the '16 where it seemed only the front wheel spun in a turn position in deeper snow. Still could use auto door locks and automatic unlock by pulling interior handle as my Dodge Intrepid had this way back in 2001. But I only point out my gripes. Everything else is great. 4 Cylinder power is plenty, CVT is superb. Steering response is great. I can cruise above 80mph with ease.

I have had this car for 14 months and it has been in the shop more times than I can remember. A basic list of features that don't work: Navigation interface, starlink interface, USB functionality, to finish off the tech cateagory the touch screen is very slow and glitchy. Eyesight system dumps a sever amount of braking power way too fast while on cruise control, which shifts down completely if the cameras don't work. The liftgate will jam and refuse to open even with no cargo making contact. I could go on an on about what all is wrong with this vehicle mechanically. Hose lines are getting wrapped around small motors around the car, the AC has was completely rebuilt week 3 and now requires full replacement and recharge. I have chewed through 3 batteries and Subaru can't find a power drain. I am getting rid of this vehicle asap before i am injured in operation. The recalls have been extensive and at no end, received another yesterday.

It needs a little more pep, also it takes time for the gears to kick in, people I speak to on B/T tell me they hear a constant buzz overall it is an amazing car. I should have gotten the 6 cylinder.

I purchased 2016 2.5 limited at the last April 2016. The problem started within a couple of days. It started with random changes of the interior clock. Then the audio part (it is a sort of computer) turns off and re-boot again time to time, while driving!!! Then the key less entry does not work at all intermittently. So when i open it by physical key, the alarm actives. I went dealer and they re installed the program, then changed the audio part. At last they said it is not the problem of the car, but my phone interfere the car. Ask me to update my cellular phone or change my phone. Really? I am always updated my cell iphone and my wife also had same problem when she drove. How can they explain this? I think i need to change my car rather than my cell phone....

I decided for my third Subaru I would get it with all the bells and whistles. I was one of the lucky ones who got one with a bad steering column and its been down hill since. I am on the second radio and the navigation still has problems. The rear hatch has been looked at three times and it still decides on its own when it will open or close. The answer my dealer has given is when the power hatch won't respond just hold the button down and it should become a manual hatch. How convenient. I want to know if I hold the ignition button down will the price of 3.6R I bought become the same price as the 2.5 and where do i get my refund? If you want to feel the "Love" save your money and get a base model.

This is our 4th Subaru. We've had 2 Foresters and a Legacy previously. With all the new features we feel safer that we did with the other 3 cars.

2015 Outback Reliability Terrible

In March of 2015, my wife and I purchased a brand new 2015 Subaru Outback 2.5 Limited with eyesight for use part-time at our SC house. Considering that we have only put about 3,000 miles on the vehicle in about 1 1/2 years it has been a huge disappointment. First the gas filler door wouldn't open and the first and second recalls didn't fix the problem - the third finally did months and months later. The windshield cracked in half - another recall. Another recall for the taillight bulb that made the eyesight worthless came a few months later. The first weekend I drove it I couldn't get the car to restart about doing an errand for 10 minutes. I had to call my Maryland dealer to tell the SC dealer that there was a TSB on the issue. Now after numerous check engine light issues that went away on their own the check engine light comes on and puts all the other warning lights on. Apparently this was due to driving through a large puddle after a two hour rain. This storm had no effect on our Volvo that drove through the same storm and puddles. Now, even after dealer service the light comes back on with all the other warning lights. Can you say Toyota?

I purchased my 2016 Outback in March. I notice the roof rails on the car when I purchased. They didn't sit flush to the car. Showed the service department. Subaru technical support was called in to check roof rails. New set was ordered, put on car, worse than one that came on car, took back to dealership and said I wasn't satisfied. They called Subaru again, they said send to body shop, that was done, still not fixed. Was given 800 number for Subaru and told to get work order number. My car has been in shop 3 times and not fixed. The dealership has offered to give me a trade in value, less that purchase price. I do like my Outback, but I'm wondering if they know what to do to get this problem fixed. If you have a 2016 or 2017 Outback, or looking to purchase, please check out the roof rack. Was told Subaru is aware of this problem, please notify your deal ship and Subaru. This is a Subaru problem, not deal ship, let Subaru know you know this

After 2 years of researching the Outback and its competition, I concluded: You simply can not buy another vehicle with a 6 cylinder engine, AWD, and the safety features for less money. I now have 2,000 miles on my 3.6 R Limited and can say the handling is above average, the engine is smooth with plenty of power and the CVT (tranny) flawlessly transfers the power to the wheels. I have not had any problems so far. I saved $3,000 by not getting the "eye-site" package. Really, as long as I have half a brain, I don't need it - especially at that price. You can get a very good Garmin for about $200 if you really need one and I live in the dessert so a sun roof would just bake me. In today's ugly car world, the Outback also looks great next to its competitors. I expect to get at least 200,000 miles out of this car. CONS?: Doors should auto-lock and an extra cup holder that pops out of the dash would be a good idea.

We test drove 23 vehicles. This was the only one that 100% of my family of 6 agreed on for comfort. Most other vehicles for comparable features wear 10K more. Hyundai Santa Fe Sport was a close second choice. Cargo space was rock-in but ultimately backseat comfort and gas mileage of Subaru won out.

If you live in the mountains, the 3.6 would certainly be the better choice but anywhere else, the 2.5 is going to be perfectly adequate and everything else about the car is darn near, perfect.

No modern car should leave you stranded. After purchasing a brand new 2016 Outback Limited - the battery is completely drained in 13 days (with not using the vehicle). Dealer reports this is "normal!" WT_?!? That is NOT normal. I would have given higher ratings across the board had it not been for this crucial issue. You cannot park at the airport and go for a 2 week trip without getting stranded. Given this situation, if you buy one of these, also buy a 10mm wrench so you can disconnect the negative battery connection when you plan to take a trip. ... this is my wife's car, had it been mine I would have returned it - this is unacceptable.

There are so many things that are disappointing to me with this car. Some off them include: after 6 different trips to 2 different dealers I learned that the random hesitation I was experiencing was due to a bad coil pack on a spark plug. The reason it took me more than 15 hours of drive time back and forth to the dealers is because the computer they have running the car randomly decides when it wants to save error codes. For my mechanical issue the engineers who created the computer felt it made sense for it to only hold my error code when the check engine light came on for the exact same reason in 2 consecutive ignitions. My cylinder 1 misfire was impossible to duplicate by the dealer until I made the 6th trip to dealer and I just got lucky because the engineers who created the computer felt it is not necessary to store my previous misfire error codes. Another disappointment is the hatchback. It will not release unless the vehicle is in park and all the doors are unlocked. So, I am guessing the engineers who created this have never dropped a child off at ball practice or been in a slow moving school pick up lane before. If they had they would know you never put your car in park and unlock the auto lock doors before your child jumps out to grab their bags from the back and you quickly get out of the way of the next family dropping off or picking up. I also absolutely hate the keyless FOB. it is my first time owning one and I will never purchase it again. You cannot lock the car with the FOB inside. As a human I should be able to decide when I want my car locked and when I don't regardless if I have a key inside or not. I could elaborate more on this but this may just be a personal preference thing versus an engineering mistake. It is ridiculous to me that this car does not have one dedicated USB for charging a phone when it is not running. Their is no possible way that 1 cell phone can draw enough power to damage a car battery if it is not running. The fuel mileage has been disappointing too. I have never averaged more than 25 mpg regardless if it is combined driving or not. Lastly, the dealership I bought my Subaru from was a joke. Lou Fusz in St. Louis could have cared less about my random misfire problem. They did nothing to help me troubleshoot my random glitch and poor performance and they eventually just blew me off as did Subaru themselves when I called them. They simple said it is covered under warranty but the caveat to that is that it is ONLY covered if they can get the problem to duplicate at the dealer. Finally the second dealership, Webster Groves Subaru in St. Louis helped me to say that I should go to an auto parts store and ask them to do a code reading on it when the check engine light came on given that the car does not store any of the information after I turn the engine off. Needless to say, I do not LOVE. my Subaru....

It seems that the Outback has a tendency to drift from one side to the other. It requires constant correction and on a long trip steering becomes tiresome. I have contacted the dealership about this problem and the conclusion is that it is a characteristic of the Outback. Everything else about the car is great and the problem doesn't seem to bother other people but it does me. My 1999 Dodge pickup is easier to hold in a straight line than my 2015 Outback.

The obsession with big trucks and SUV's baffles me. This Subaru is PERFECT, and gets much better gas mileage! We just returned from a 2000 mile trip with 3 kids (2 in car seats) and 2 adults and a back full of luggage. The 2.5i engine did just fine in the mountains, and we had no problem with room! Was the back seat cramped, yes, but the 30MPG was fantastic! We have had this car for 1 year now, and I'm very happy with my decision.

After only a month I can tell that this car has it all over the Toyota Venza it replaced, except, except, the Toyota, and others I understand, offer free basic maintenance (oil changes, etc.) and state inspections for the first two years, twenty thousand miles, which means the user will pay pretty much nothing during a three-year lease term, i.e., turning it back before the third maintenance date. Subaru should offer this perk. Nevertheless, I feel this is going to be a great car for me.

we are very happy with the 2016 Outback. Ours is fully loaded with EyeSight. I love the adaptive cruise and use it on the highway all the time. Lane keep assist can be annoying sometimes, especially through construction zones while passing a truck, it wants me to stay in a lane and pushes me too close to the truck. Outback is very comfortable, super quiet, great seats, very impressed with overall luxury feel. lot of soft touch materials in the cabin, some plastics look a beat cheaper tho. Ride is nice, acceleration so so, but it's SUV with a 4 cylinder, so that's expected. Gets a good gas mileage. i made 480 miles trip without a stop going 80-85. Very impressed.

Love this Subaru 2016 Limited that we purchased 6/30/2016. Roomy, handles well, great interior and technology features. Already taken it on one long road trip and also to the beach...so nice to have all that extra cargo space for our gear. Passengers loved the leg room and their comfy seats. Only thing I can negatively mention is that road noise is not as quiet as my BMW but few cars would be. I am VERY happy with my purchase of this car and look forward to many years of enjoying my Subaru.

I've owned my '16 Outback limited with eyesight for about three months/ 3000 miles. It is my second Outback (non consecutive). Overall, this is a great utilitarian family car, and if you have owned an Outback before, you'll recognize its strengths and weaknesses. The car offers great utility, use of space, and overall function. It's not sporty by any means, but it is great at getting me and all my stuff (including a one year old and all his stuff) where I want to go comfortably and safely. It's a fantastic road trip car, with incredible back seat comfort. The adaptive cruise control included in the Eyesight package was worth every penny. I never used to use cruise control, but I use the adaptive cruise control on almost every trip. The gas mileage is also very good for the weight of the car. I have generally experienced 30 mpg average when driving 75 on the highway. There are downsides. First, don't buy this car if you're looking for sporty handling. This should immediately be clear from a test drive, but acceleration, road holding, and "feel" are not sporty. However, they are in line with reasonable expectations. The only surprise I have had from a handling perspective is how much the car jumps/skips when it hits a bump, especially when going around a curve. My '01 Outback did this a bit, but I was surprised to experience it in my 2016. The outback holds the road over imperfections far worse than other cars I've driven in this price range. Secondly, the entertainment/nav is a massive point of frustration. It has a lot of functionality, but it is hard to navigate and overly complex. While the navigation is nicely integrated into the sound system and dashboard. However, Waze and Google Maps outperform the navigation so profoundly that I don't even use the integrated navigation. After running Waze in parallel with the Nav for a few months, the Subaru navigation has so consistently provided sub-optimal or confusing directions that I prefer to just use my phone. This leads me to my other complaint about the the system. It works pretty well over Bluetooth, but as soon as you plug the phone into the USB, the system wants to treat your phone as an iPod and the whole experience gets disrupted. Overall, the entertainment system is super clunky and hard to use. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to save preset stations (have not yet opened the giant manual) and the system is heavily integrated with Sirius, which really undermines the system if you don't buy a subscription. With all this said, I'm very happy with the car.

As an engineer, I expect a lot from a vehicle and am hard to please. We traded a Volvo XC-90 which I never liked because so much about it "doesn't make sense." So far, I've not uttered that phrase a single time about our Outback. Engine is very smooth and quiet, ride is great, very quiet inside and well appointed. The Eyesight system is phenomenal! The adaptive cruise control is amazing; works so well that in stop-and-go traffic the car will drive itself almost - you only need to lightly touch the accelerator to make it move once it stops. Fuel mileage is great at 33 mpg on the highway. With the 4 cyl engine and CVT transmission, it is a little sluggish at slow speeds, but (thoughtfully) you need only to shift down with the paddle shifter for the extra power you need - as soon as you let off the gas, it shifts right back into 'Drive'. Of course you can move the shifter to 'M' to shift manually. The only thing I find lacking is the navigation system, which like every one I've ever seen is hopelessly outdated from day one. (Why don't they just link to Google Maps and be done with it?) Other than that, it's everything we hoped for.

My husband and I are thoroughly impressed with this car. We test drove other brands, but the Subaru Outback impressed us the most. The quality of the vehicle along with the standard features it comes with makes this a very good value. It is fun to drive, and it looks sharp with its red exterior and ivory leather seats. I do mostly city driving, and so far I'm getting 27 miles per gallon. I can't think of any negatives about this car, and I highly recommend it.

This is my second Subaru, had a 2015 Legacy which is very similar inside. Originally wanted the Outback but they were all out of stock and needed something quick. The build quality on these cars is outstanding. Quiet comfortable interior with lots of leg room for all you taller folks. The acceleration with the 4 cylinder isn't rocket like, but it gets the job done. If you are going to tow anything substantial, get the 6 cyl. Either way, these cars are build to last.

You can get the specs on this car anywhere, so there's no need to belabor them: from a capability versus cost (both upfront price and long-term costs like gas, maintenance, and depreciation), you can't go wrong with this car! Really, it's closest competitor is its sibling, the Subaru Forrester. We seriously considered the Toyota RAV4 hybrid which is the gas mileage king of the AWD vehicles in this basic size class. The RAV4 hybrid was fun to drive but its gas mileage advantage over the Outback was only 5 MPG (EPA combined) while it was much more cramped than the Outback in both the back seat area and the passenger front seat. This tradeoff ultimately led us to choose the Outback which actual cornered better than the RAV4 hybrid and was almost as quiet.

This is our second Outback. My wife hated the passenger seat in the 2006 and wasn't too fond of the hard seat on the driver side either. Fortunately, the 2016 has enough driver side adjustments that she can find a very comfortable driving position. The passenger side was still an issue so we didn't buy until I found a cushion in one of the upper level catalogs that relieved that problem. It has a support matrix and memory foam and it boost her up a bit since which is ok since she is 5'4". If the passenger seat had the same adjustments as the driver's seat, we could have bought the car sooner. She loves the radio and the great visibility and the backup camera and warning system. I really like the adaptive cruise control. It is great for both local driving and for the freeway. Average gas mileage approaches an honest 24mpg and we have gotten 26 +mpg on long trips. The navigation system is nothing special, confusing at best. The phone and Garmin type navigation is greatly superior. I wish we didn't have to have the moonroof - mostly useless in a desert climate - in order to get Eyesight. Based on more than a dozen fillups, the indicated fuel economy is 5.5% too high. Not bad but not correct either. I wish the seats were a bit longer but my wife would not have liked that. Fortunately, the seat adjustments make long distance driving comfortable. The back seat is also amazingly comfortable and roomy especially in comparison to the 2006. My wife has stopped driving our other car and is now a great fan of Subaru.

This is my second Subaru. My first was a 2014 XV Crosstrek limited which was nice but I wanted something larger with a better ride. I have a 2.5i Limited fully loaded and couldn't be more pleased. Very comfortable seats unlike the Forester (even touring trim) and much, much better ride. I am 40 and initially my next car was going to be a WRX but I think the novelty would wear off in a month. I never thought I would be leasing a wagon because that's exactly what it is, but I am so very glad I did. Overall, nothing compares on the market to the Outback. I have driven my bosses Honda CRV that felt very unstable unlike the Outback that feels solid. Also, the AWD systems in the Honda are fake and I prefer the the true AWD in Subarus. The style both inside and out aren't for everyone but it is slowly growing on me. I would not buy a Subaru unless its a limited model or above. Go see for yourself but just keep in mind if you do decide to go with the CRV or CX5 it may be me passing you in the snow.

I have had my 2016 Outback for about two months now. So far zero complaints, and while I have not had winter to test the car, the heat & heated seats clearly work very well. I know plenty of others in Maine with 2016 Outbacks and zero complaints about heating, or winter features. I suspect that the previous review is a one off issue. Fuel economy so far has been averaging around 32MPG, with most driving on 35-50mph roads and not much traffic. Very comfortable and relatively quiet ride, and a well thought out car. Lots of space!

After carving my initials in 2 oak trees in a 415 HP Pontiac G8 GXP in heavy rain, my goal was to buy a "safe," comfortable vehicle with reasonable performance. The Subaru Outback 3.6R Limited was my choice. 4 months and nearly 8,000 miles later, the decision was one of the best I've ever made. My worst fears, excessive road/wind noise and poor acceleration, were unfounded. On ramps and overtaking slower vehicles on 2-lane roads are both effortless. Road/wind noise is insignificant, even wth 2 roof-mounted bicycles. This vehicle is a gem. I foresee 200,000+ miles on my Outback over the next 8-10 years.

I've had my Outback about a month & have buyer's remorse! I'm 5'4" & the seats are very uncomfortable, and my passengers have complained about this as well. It's acceleration is noisy, but the car is pretty quiet once a steady speed is reached. The Outback only gets 21 mpg in the city & 23 mpg on the highway, which is very disappointing! The automatic trunk release on the clicker is convenient. The exterior mirror has an small indicator, which lights up when someone is in the car's blind spot. It would be nice if a button or turn signal would also show the blind spot area on the interior camera. It doesn't come with a key fob & push button start which would really be convenient, so I suggest Subaru engineers add those in future models. I'm strongly considering selling my brand new car. I'm so disappointed with the Subaru Outback! I should have spent my $32,000 on a Honda CRV or the Chrysler 300!

First, the overall performance of the 2016 Outback. The car is great except for two items. Acceleration is not smooth. It seems to jump off the line. Not as smooth as I would expected. Next, the braking is not as good as expected. The car seems to not stop as I would like. Consider I am 67 years old and do not drag race! Otherwise this car, it's design, most features, gas mileage, and comfort are everything I had hoped it would be. Truly great. Now the downside. One minor point -- The climate control does not appear to be very responsive. It does not quickly respond whenever we adjust the temperature. It's ok but other cars I have owned have been better. Now most importantly -- Be sure you know whether your cell phone is compatible with the Outback Starlink Infotainment System. No Subaru sales associate ever mentioned this. We were led to believe our phones would be fully functional with the car. Subaru happens to have a place on their website to check your phones' compatibility with your carrier, make, and model of phone. For those listed the site shows whether it has been tested or not. If tested, the site shows exactly which features work with Starlink. If not tested or not listed, beware. When we encountered our first problem, the service department pointed out this site where it shows our phones were 'Not Tested'. According to the service department, anything can happen and as we found, it does. For example, we could receive incoming calls and sometime make outgoing calls. When wanting to make an outgoing call, Starlink would dial a random number from our contact list when pressing the phone icon. We would not have the opportunity to choose the contact. Also, for some reason I can not explain, the Starlink Infotainment system will lock up totally. None of the controls of the Infotainment system would work. Could not change the radio station. No icons would work. Could not even turn Starlink off. There was only on way to fix this; pull off the road, turn off the car, and restart;very annoying especially if on an interstate highway. This has happened many times since we purchased the car in February. Unfortunately the service department said 'because the phone was listed as not tested, there is nothing they could (would)'. So, please check the compatibility of your phone with the Subaru website before you are disappointed. Our solution; we bought new cell phones that were on the approved phone list.

Purchased the 2016 Outback Premium 4-cyl in Jan. Very impressed with the safety features (have Eyesight). Talked with about 5 Subaru owners before purchase...all were very pleased. The vehicle is great in almost every way . Had difficulty with drivers seat for a while.... Found the drivers seat more comfortable when moved my shoulders as far back as possible. Had a 1550 mile round trip and did ok. Believe the Outback is a very good value for the $$$.

I have been through a number of cars in my life...from little Mercedes convertible roadster to big Jeep Wrangler and everything in between. The Outback without a doubt is proving to be my favorite all-rounder. It handles much better than one might think so you get a real drivers experience. It's true that with the 4 cylinder you are not going to win any drag races BUT it has more than enough power to get me moving along at a good clip. The trade off is great mileage for my long commute! This is the first car that I've been able to sit in comfortably for hours on end due to the seating, and during Snowmaggedon this vehicle was simply worth its weight in gold. I dare say the Outback performed better on the snow covered roads than my Jeep, and definitely better on wet roads. It has a TON of room in it, both for passengers and cargo. I'm 6' 3" with room to spare in the front and back seats. Interior is quiet and comfortable. And from what my research shows, this car is going to have a great resale value when I decide to get my next Outback!

This is the 3rd Subaru wagon I've owned since 1980. I had forgotten what an awesome vehicle the Subaru is. When I decided to move on from my mid-size Ford SUV, I searched diligently for a replacement and finally decided on the Outback. I had forgotten what a wonderful vehicle the Subaru is. Safety is at the forefront of the design & the "Eye sight" option is a definite winner. The all wheel drive & its ability to take a little tougher terrain than a paved road are excellent-one of Subaru's legendary qualities. In addition to safety, the interior has been highly upgraded. The leather package in the Premium level is second to none. The leather is plush and has a soft, buttery feeling to the touch, not hard like my Ford. I would like to have a little more user friendly system for the voice commands but only Ford has the Microsoft Sync system which is the best. But I did not buy my Outback for the voice command system. All things considered, the 2016 Subaru Outback is a winner and I anticipate getting well over 100,000 miles out of it with only routine upkeep & maintenance!! GO SUBIE!!!!!

I am a caraholic. I am in constant search of my next car. I love the Subaru and here is why: EYESIGHT is an extraordinary bargain. Cross-traffic alert system takes so much stress out of backing out of a parking space, I never knew the anxiety I had until it was alleviated. Blind spot monitors are very useful and, again, ease my mind when changing lanes. Adaptive cruise control is very useful and makes road trips stress-free, and the lane-keeping assist steers the car back into the middle of the lane. The rear seats recline. The roof rails have built-in cross rails. The cargo area is huge, but could use nets on the sides. What do i wish it had? The passenger seat needs to be height-adjustable just like every VW ever made. All cars should give up their proprietary interfaces and just give us CarPlay or license Ford's Sync3. I have only had this Outback 2 weeks so cannot really speak to reliability, just going on what Consumers Reports and Edmunds reviews. I really like this vehicle. I traded out of a Honda Pilot I have had for 10 years and really liked the ride, storage, seating, comfort, and style, but gas mileage was poor, and my Children are adults so we do not need that big of a SUV. That said we backpack, fish, camp, kayak, ski, etc. so needed a vehicle that could tow light trailer, do forest service and gravel road, snow and mountain passes. Went of the 3.6 engine for towing, lost some gas mileage, but like the extra acceleration when needed. Does as well as my pilot. The ride with the 18" wheels, and suspension is delightful, smooth and handed the rough spots well. Comfortable seats, love the eye sight features. The mirrors that adjust at night keep me from being blinded in the sideview mirrors. The navigation is really nice and the satellite radio has been a surprise I did not expect to enjoy as much as I do. It handles well, steering give me a feel of the road without being annoying. The braking is fantastic, so smooth and even. I look forward to many adventures with this vehicle and hope it lives up to its safety and reliability ratings. Buying the vehicle was no hassle. Did it through Edmunds, the dealer beat their suggested market price by over a $1000. Up front pricing, relaxed, no pressure, got the color, features, and better price. That was amazing. Dealer and Subaru corp. seem very interested in customer satisfaction unlike some other make I have had in the past and have never bought again. Go Subaru

Nowadays, the infotainment system is a key part of the car. I've got the latest generation (2016 Outback - Limited) system. It reeks of promise and delivers none. In fact, IT IS A ROAD HAZARD. Fiddling with the phone and the infotainment system will definitely cause frustration and I predict accidents. You can see glimmers of hardware capability. For instance, the AM radio has dynamic IF bandwidth control. (If the signal is good, the audio bandwidth opens up and sound much better.) But then alas, the software overcompensates for ruining the experience. For instance:L 1. Bluetooth gets confused and does not properly function. 2. The "tone control is bass, mid and treble" (should have been a full equalizer) 3. The APPS are trite and not updated. There are only 6 of them. 4. Mirrorlink offered promise, but their offerings miss the mark. Certainly not lastly, a phone screen CANNOT be cast onto the infotainment screen. I complained to the President of Subaru. He pushed it off on to a lower management person, who, (accolades to him) called me on the phone to resolve the issues. After our discussion, he said the radio software would not achieve the things we discussed for 2 years. He explained that new apps would be released April 15, 2016. None did. I'd really like my money back. So, if you are looking for a car and infotainment is important. Shop elsewhere for the next 2 years. (I'd give it three, based on the tardiness of releasing simple apps.)

I purchased my 2016 Outback 3.6 in November of 2015. I've only put about 2500 miles on it at this point, June of 2016, but really like the car and would buy it again. It has been problem free, the Eyesite/Starlink work well, same for lane departure warning and Blind spot, Super easy to get in and out of, really happy with it. I just have a few complaints that have to do with features, not quality. 1.) no central locking feature for door locks, my 2002 Toyota Tundra has central locking, at over $38,000 for my Outback should have central locking, 2.) The power passenger seat does not have the same movements as the driver seat. 3.) no heated steering wheel 4.) Does not have Bi-LED headlights 5.) no secondary buttons for radio, to many steps to go through touch screen to get between nav and radio. 6.) Stereo is not that great for an upgraded stereo (Harman/Kardon). 7.) would be nice to have cooled seats as well as heated 8.) No lumbar adjustments for passenger seat. 9.) does not offer front and rear sensors. 10.) more exterior and interior color choices. I know these things most people would probably consider not needed, but I do and the central locking for safety reason, never know what stop light or sign you may be at. This is a car I would buy again and I hope Subaru will make changes and add some, if not all the items I think it should have. Just so it's here, I average about 21 mpg, but I live at a high elevation, and drive up and down hills a lot. Like the extended warranty they offer as well, got the 7 year / 100,000 mile warranty with zero deductible.

We owned this car for a week and it has been recalled for a steering column defect. Subaru did the right thing with the recall and they gave us a rental car, but it has been four weeks and they keep saying we are waiting for the part. I hope this review draws attention to the problem. Follow up--It has been 25 days since our defective car was taken to the dealer. They told me it would take a week to 10 days to fix this. The car is now repaired. After 4 weeks I called the dealer and mentioned I posted on Edmunds. That seemed to get their attention and the car is fixed. THANK YOU

2016 Outback Limited with Eyesight and Navigation. Four Cylinder. We just completed a long trip SW Florida to Morganton NC, to Phoenix, AZ then back to Florida on I-10 E to I 75 S. Really like the 18.5 Gallon gas tank. Gives us a lot of range. Comfortable feeling when driving on some of those roads out west with gas stations few and far between. I agree most of the previous contents so I will not repeat. RE 4 cylinders vs 6. We did not feel deprived at all for lack of the 6. I would not buy the 6 just for the pickup but if it rode better and quieter, I would definitely consider it. Starlink was useless to us on the trip. We listen to talking books downloaded from our library to a cell phone. We then use bluetooth to listen on car radio. Starlink would not work in that situation. It seems now that give a 3 year subscription to Sirius radio. That is good if only to stop the annoying calls and e-mails from them if you do not renew. We only got a 30 day free trial. Generally like the Nav except that I detest the fact that the Voice Guidance cannot be turned OFF. I anything that is dangerous because when travelling at speed on an interstate at highers speeds by the time the voice tells you to take a turn in xxx feet, it is too late to do anything about it if you rely only on the voice. Looking to buy another one so that we have two. Our older 2007 Toyota Avalon Limited runs well but lacks the safety features like eyesight, backup camera. It does have the dynamic cruise control which is almost never used because it it not smooth like the Subaru's. Will probably buy the 2017 Touring which inclueds what we like as standard. After reading some of the other comments, I will also evaluate the 6 cylinder to see if it does ride better.

We haven't bought a new car in about 10 years, and took this purchase very seriously. We basically wanted all wheel drive in something that would get good gas mileage, and after a lot of research the 4-cylinder Outback seemed to fit the bill. We've had it for 2 months, and already have 3500 miles on it. I have to say I love driving this car. The ride is great, great handling, the seats seem to be comfortable as we have taken 4-hour drives in it. The electronics are probably more than I would have wanted, but the options came with the power passenger seat and sunroof I did want. I use the cruise a lot, and the adaptive cruise option is neat. The only problem so far with the car is mileage. One reason I chose the 4-cylinder was EPA highway of 33 mpg. So far I'm only getting about 29. I've asked about that, and the Subaru dealer told me it would improve over time. We'll see. But I would recommend the Outback to anyone.

The V-6 version rides like a different car than the V-4. The gas mileage is less, of course, but imo is mdke up for by these other factors. The ride, noise levels, and acceleration are all superior to the V-4.

First of all, I think the 2016 Outback is a great vehicle. It has lived up to my expectations and I highly recommend it. Very comfortable, well designed and the eye sight system is great. My only issue so far is the famous Subaru customer service that I have heard so much about with glowing reviews. I haven't had that experience. When I got the car the Nav maps weren't working properly, so the dealer swapped it out for another infotainment system from a demo on the lot. So far so good, except that I didn't get the advertised 3 yr SiriusXM traffic subscription. I asked Sirius about it and they said contact Subaru. I contacted the dealer and they said contact Subaru customer service. I contacted customer service and they said they would research and get back to me in 48 hrs. It's been almost 2 weeks and no contact. I e-mailed them several days ago and no response. This is not a big issue, but i am disappointed after all I have heard over the years about Subaru customer service. Hopefully I won't have any serious problems down the road where I need their help.

The biggest draws to the Outback for me were the resale value, practicality and build quality. For the price, the materials and construction are very good. The options were great, near luxury.It's difficult to find them on a similar vehicle for the price. The interior is pleasant and logically laid out. The back storage is great. Not just the total cubic feet, but the dimensions allow flexibility in what can be stored. I have the 3.6R, and it was worth it. The ride is smooth and quiet, great for long trips. The acceleration responds quickly, but might not be pony-car-esque for some. The power is good for mountain passes and keeping the revs low. The clearance is high, so there can be occasional control challenges at high speeds with heavy crosswinds, but good control during normal driving. The gas milage depends on how it's driven. It can be either powerful or efficient. There's an instrument to help with that on the dash. Even though I've evaluated it in a rational way, please don't take that as "not fun". It's tons of fun feeling that I made the right choice, a year later, when making my car payments. When shopping, I test drove fun cars too. They were great to drive for a half hour test drive, but I bought something I could live with. The Outback was the right choice for me.

I opted for the special order R3.6 with the H6 engine and every option and trailer hitch. The H6 engine and special CVT make this car very different from the 2.5. Highway performance is amazing. Merging and passing are easy. This car can cruise at 80 mph with no trouble. I don't recommend you do so but to know it can is a comfort. The extra 200 pounds for the engine and CVT makes a great difference in the ride. Very quite. My wife feels very safe and secure in the passenger seat. Plenty of cargo space. No recalls. Previous car was a 2006 Toyota Highlander. Was not impressed with the 2016 model.

Own two Outbacks (2008 & 2016)now and love them both. For our use, they are the best car on the road. The 2016 has a nicer interior and ride than the 2008. Finally found a great dealership to buy from (Classic Cadillac & Subaru in Atlanta). They were easy to deal with at the point of purchase and provided wonderful service for the recent sterring column recall.

Had my Outback just two weeks when the vehicle was recalled for steering problems. My dealer (Troncalli Subaru, Cumming GA)) was very proactive in resolving this - called us the morning of the recall and gave us a nice rental car to keep until the car has been fixed. They must check noise isolation and automatic door lock. When i drove on the road , the more foreign noise is heard inside the car. For the price, I could not find a better car with high clearance that can handle off road driving along with reasonable safety features (Eyesight package) for long drives. First the wife and I love the way the 2016 Outback looks. We have had the car for only one week now. We test drove the 2.5 limited first around the test track, our dealership has. We got out of the 2.5 and right into a 3.6 limited, once more around the test track, what a world of difference between the two engine's. My concern was merging into highway or turnpike traffic, with 4 adults and luggage. We ordered the EYE-Site package, for the extra money cant beat all the safety features. We keep our cars for at least 10 years. Before even test driving the car's, I went into the Subaru service shop and spoke with two mechanics. I asked them if they would purchase the 2016 outback, one told me he has a 2015 outback and pointed to it in the parking lot. The other mechanic, let me know that he had a 2011 outback and would have a 2016 if he could afford it. Both told me if I keep cars for 10 years, to order the 3.6 engine, if I can afford it. Took 9 weeks for our car to be built and delivered, to the dealership. After all the research we did, I feel confident our new 2016 -3.6 Tungsten Metallic Limited, will be around for the next 10 years and hopefully enjoyed every mile driven.

Navigation voice control does not work. Navigation maps are not detailed enough. Once an address has been entered to the system, there appears there is not a second screen showing turn by turn directions. To complete the technology this vehicle offers, it could use both front and rear beepers. The cross traffic sensors are good but do not pick up stationary objects and there is no warning in the front, especially for parking or close encounters. Hopefully this SUV will offer a reverse automatic stop and 360degree cameras by the time my leases runs out. Besides the navigation, this is a great vehicle for the money. Especially impressed with eyesight and all the technology that came with a single reasonable package. The V6 motor is strong and both quiet and smooth. I have no regrets replacing my leased 2013 RX350 with this SUV and I especially like the savings.

I really like my 2016 Subaru Outback. It rides very well, even in the rain. It's roomy, comfortable, great family car, and reasonably priced. The safety features can't be beat. P.S. If you have an iPod Classic, don't try to get it to work with the infotainment system - it won't! Just buy an iPod touch. Pros: Drives like it is on dry pavement, even in the rain. Eyesight features are great (cruise control that speeds up/slows down as needed to keep a safe distance from other cars, automatic braking to avoid collisions) Cons: Acceleration from a stop is not smooth. Climate control layout could be better (2 buttons for the fan instead of a dial?) Infotainment system won't work with an iPod Classic.

I have done the subaru outback 2016 test drive. I found doors are not lock by itself and drivers need to press the lock button to lock the doors.Its better to have automatic lock system for safety and to be hassle free. We expect automatic lock system in 2017 models.Thank you.

I wanted a wagon with a comfortable seat and some power to replace my 2012 Prius V. I loved the Prius V but the seat was very uncomfortable. After driving CRV Touring AWD, Volvo XC70, Acura RDX AWD, Allroad and Outback, I was surprised to find myself really liking the Subaru Outback. I like its spacious interior, simple and logical layout of audio and navigation systems, and overall feel and looks of the interiors. The seat is extremely comfortable. There is no need to read the manual because everything is intuitive. It runs very quiet and acceleration is acceptable even with a 4 cylinder engine. I chose the 3.6 R Limited for for power and smoothness. The adaptable cruise control works very well. I also got the factory trailer hitch for my bikes. However, there is excessive wind turbulence with moonroof wide open. Other than that It is the most versatile, practical and fun to drive wagon. It has gotten 21 to 25 MPG.

I have generally thought that Subaru's were good cars but if I'm honest they have been at best just ok to look at and more often than not kind of ugly. Growing up in a ski resort many people drove Subaru's because they are good in the snow and affordable. I was needing a car that would allow me to haul around dog crates and signs I use in my Real Estate business. I looked at many SUVs and found that most of them were just OK. I didn't even look at Subaru because of my perception of the looks of the car. Then I saw the new Outback and thought "It still looks like a Subaru but it is much nicer looking". It was like knowing a girl who is plain and then meeting her sister who has the family resemblance but is a knock out. I did a great deal of research on this car and in terms of safety, reliability and performance it looked like it could not be beat. I then went for a test drive and was expecting the car to be a bit sluggish but to my surprise I was happy with the acceleration. I drove the 6 cylinder and although acceleration was better you took a big hit in the MPG. The interior fit and finish of this car is top notch with leather and soft to the touch finishes everywhere. Most of the other cars I looked at looked like Tupperware had done the interiors with all the hard plastic everywhere. The eyesight system ROCKS! This car will keep you in your lane, apply braking in an emergency and has adaptive cruse control. The car is quite with a bit of a stiff ride which gives you the ability to use the car off road. I really like that the car sits up high so it is easy to get in and out of. The mileage is amazing being that the car is large and four wheel drive. I am getting about 29 in town and 34 on the highway. Not bad as it is rated at 26/33. Absolutely everything about this car functions well. rear seats fold easily, rear hatch opens electronically. seat comfortable and adjustable. Really good infotainment center as well. To be fair there are a few minor things I would change. I wish the doors would lock when the car is put in gear and I wish the passenger seat had a height adjustment but if that is the extent of my wish list for a car I think that is pretty short. In my work, I often have people in my car. I get lots of comment's like "What kind of car is this" and "This is nicer than I thought Subaru's were." I showed this car to my mother who liked it so much that she bought the identical car a month later. I think what sold her is that were she lives they had a snow storm that was the biggest in something like a hundred years. They did not have enough snow plows to do the streets and even people with four wheel drive trucks were having difficulty getting around. My Subaru did so well that I ended up driving her neighbors to the grocery store as none of them could get out of their drive way. If something happened to this car I would go out and buy it all over again. My research tell me that I'm not alone in this. The car is #1 in brand loyalty, Owners keep their Subaru's longer than any other brand and they have the highest resale value as well. I guess we all love our Subaru's This is my favorite car I have ever owned.

After months of research we had narrowed our search down to the 2016 Toyota RAV4 Limited Hybrid. We've driven Toyota's for years. The morning we were going to the Toyota dealer we decided to go drive the Subaru Outback 2.5 Limited. The Subaru dealer was blocks from our house and on the way to the Toyota dealer. After reading many poor reviews of the Subaru's acceleration issues and the gutless 2.5 engine I was shocked by how well the Subaru accelerated. Not only was the acceleration much better than expected but the Subaru held the road WAY better than the Toyota (we test drove both in pouring rain) and felt far better balanced and much easier to control. The road noise in the RAV4 was extremely loud and obtrusive while the Outback was much quieter. The interior on the Subaru felt comfortable and spacious with great lines of sight and visibility. The RAV4 felt cramped with awkward lines of sight. If you are considering one of the other SUVs (RAV4, CR-V, CX-5, Ford Escape) I would highly recommend test driving the Outback before buying one of the other cars.

It's not HUGE.. feels like it though. Don't buy a Subaru if you must have fancy electronics or luxury. It's bare necessities just enough to make it a 2016 vehicle. Safety, reliability and value is why we got this. AWD, road control, off-road capability enhances the value from just being a commute car. I personally prefer Gen 4 design, but Subaru made the Gen 5 more polished and refined looking. We have had it only for 3-4 weeks but already took it to the mountains once.

This is my second Outback. First one is 17 years old , 170k miles and counting. Plenty of technical reviews out there so I will keep it to personal view. Ourback 3.6R is everything I wanted. It gives me that awesome feeling that I know I am in a Subi. The engine is definitely not sport tunned, but coming from 4 cylinder it feels strong. CVT feels ok. Not a huge fan of it, but also, does not bother me at all. It just goes about doing it's job. As for the interior, This car feels more expensive that it was. I sat in many cars before deciding to buy another outback. Jeep GC felt big, yet cramped inside. Plus that V8 engine paired to that awful transmission felt like a caged gorilla fighting you at ever move. 4Runner, too bouncy. Audi Allroad, too small. No regular sized adult can fin in the back of those. Volvo wagon, was nice. Felt more upscale than the Subi, but surprisingly, the Outback feels better built. Heavy thump of the doors etc. I didn't expect that. At the end, the Outback reminds me of a farm donkey. Definitely not as sporty as thoroughbred A6 Avant, nor a robust as clydesdale Land Cruiser, but I know it will take me thru hell and high water, it is virtually indestructible, it will be cheap to maintain; and all of this while properly fitting 5 adults and boat loads of gear inside. There is a reason the Subaru Cult exist. These things just work. The ONLY negative I can give it is in regards to the driver side front seat. It is a tad too stiff for long rides for my taste. But then again, that is compared to the Honda Odyssey which we all know is more of a couch on wheels. This Outback is great. I look forward to many years of ownership.

I was downsizing from SUVs since I don't need the third row and don't tow anymore. I studied and drove the Volvo, Mazda, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, and Hyundai. The Subaru Outback beat them all "Hands-down". I bought the Outback Limited 2.5 with the "Eye Sight" system on it and find it to be far superior to any other make for excellent setting options and comfort in using it. I also like the multitude of options with the audio and map controls. The back seat is also comfortable and has adequate leg and hip room. I highly recommend this car.

Having had the Subaru Outback Limited for only twelve days I'm still in the learning stage regarding the technology of this vehicle. I seem to be finding new things with each drive. This car has so many positive safety features, I.e., Eyesight, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, etc. It alerts the driver of possible road icing on cold days. If daydreaming at a traffic light it alerts the driver that the vehicle ahead has moved. The ride is smooth and handles road bumps with ease. Acceleration is amazing for a four cylinder vehicle. Steering is very responsive. While not as luxurious as my former Toyota Avalon, the interior is stylish and attractive, however the driver's seat is not as comfortable as I have enjoyed in previously owned vehicles. There's ample rear seat legroom, and the reclining rear seats provide passenger comfort for long rides. Overall I am very impressed with the Outback. As to reliability, that remains to be determined as the vehicle ages, but I'm optimistic given Subaru's overall record.

very comfortable road ride. great mileage for class. over 34 mpg on highway. very loud engine noise. lots of road noise. blind spot monitors not good in bright sunlight, need a larger warning sign, power rear hatch is very finickey needs improved would like to see a foot activated hatch like the ford escape, engine is under powered, bluetooth constantly disconnects the phones, hard to hear stereo due to road noise, seats in front need a little more support in seat, headlights are not good would like to see bi-xenon headlights, turn lights work well, adaptive cruise control needs work, does not return to speed soon enough almost caused me to get rear ended several times, do not like to be forced to purchase a sunroof to get eyesight system, needs front and rear parking sensors, radio controls and options need improved. mainly not enough torque when accelerating and way too much road noise are the biggest drawbacks for me, my ford escape was much better in these areas (2013 titanium) as well as having better headlights, nav system, audio system, front and rear parking sensors and RCTA were all much better and also had a foot activated rear hatch. Update Oct 2016: This 4 cylinder is extremely loud and noisy, so much so that you might as well not have a radio system and it is so under powered that it is very annoying and gives no confidence when trying to merge into highway driving or passing. A good vehicle for grandparents whose hearing has already been damaged and don't intend to use the radio. Subaru should focus on sound insulation for cabin occupants and improving power and acceleration. I could not purchase another outback until these very important to me issues are addressed.

I love my Outback. I've got the eyesight and navigation system. The eyesight is incredible and one of the reasons I purchased the vehicle. I frequently travel the midwest for my job and wanted a safer car. The eyesight with auto adjust cruise control is probably the best feature of a car I've ever owned and makes long trips much easier to handle. The front drivers seat is also SUPER comfortable especially when the butt warmer is on! The thing about the car that is absolute garbage are: 1) The navigation system is awful and at time unusable. It frequently has me getting on and off the highway for no freaking reason and says there are traffic jams ahead when there are none so how can you trust it. It completely freezes up on me when I am driving in Chicago and almost got me into an accident while I was trying to get it to work. 2) The entertainment system integration with your phone frustrates me to no end. The apps for the vehicle are an absolute joke and Subaru should be ashamed of what they are putting out compared to other car companies. The buttons on the steering wheel are not the best choices for me to have on the wheel and the voice system is utterly USELESS. 3) Gas mileage is nowhere close to what they advertise - I usually don't even get close to what they advertise for the city mpg when I'm driving highway miles so that is very disappointing. Even with these items I would still buy the vehicle, although I wish that I could have turned down the navigation upgrade as for me it is barely usable.

The Subaru Outback is a great value. Safety features, in dash electronics, road stability, reliability...well, I could go on and on. We now have five Subaru Outbacks in our family, from a 2011 to a 2016. All have been outstanding with no repairs. Regular maintenance is all that has been required. Comfortable for long trips. Useful for in town driving. Just get one and be happy for years to come.

Great safety features but not all are standard features so you will need to pay extra for them. I have a young child and a lot of children in the neighborhood so the safety features & back-up camera were very important to me and well worth the cost. I previously owned a Volvo XC70. In comparison, the interior is a little roomier but the material is a little lower quality & not as luxurious. Visibility for me is much better and I like that the vehicle rides a little higher but not quite as high a SUV. I have had the car for a only month and so far I have had no maintenance issues. The car, at first, was a little "jerky" when starting for a stop and it just took a little time to get used to the "touch" on the accelerator. All in all I really like the car. The gas mileage isn't great with the 3.6 engine but it's still better than my Volvo.

This car continues to impress me. I purchased this car based on the size/fuel economy. I never thought that I would love it, it was to be an economy cruiser. The ride quality is good but a bit harsh. The upside is you feel in control in all circumstances. The 2.5 is far from powerful but is always adequate. The highlight of this engine is the fuel economy. I am getting a combined 28 mpg in mainly below freezing temperatures and short trips, hardly a recipe for great mileage. The two chances I have had to take the car on long trips have provided over 35 mpg. 35 on the first and 38 on the second. I have had the opportunity to drive in snow and I'm pleasantly surprised at the cars ability. I believe the stock tires are not the best but will use the up before changing. I would highly recommend this car to anyone who values economy and capably above appearance, because in the end this crossover is a wagon.

I'm in my 70's and we hold onto our cars for 15+ years. I did a years research from talking to Subaru owners in my neighborhood and Mall parking lots plus reviewing owners comments for vehicles 2014 on that I could find on the internet. If folks had a complaint I looked to see if that complaint carried through on the latest dated reviews or did it disappear. I wanted the latest safety equipment that I could afford like: Adaptive Cruise Control; Eye Sight: Blind Spot Detection; Rear Cross Traffic Alert and found this vehicle had these plus additional safety features. We drove to Florida and loved the Adaptive Cruise Control that maintained a selected safe distance between us and the car in front from out 75 set speed to 45 mph slow downs and back to 75 without having to reset the cruise control speed. I loved the "Multi Information Display" in front of the steering wheel which I set to show the next route change without having to look at the large Navigation screen. I was disappointed in the navigation system in that it kept trying to take us off route 95 in what was completed Florida construction areas also it couldn't find the Motel address in Miami that the motel gave to us. However when we did a Custom search in the Accommodations category we found our Motel listed and hit Go and it took us directly to it. Both my wife and I have back problems and we didn't experience any pain or discomfort spending over 8 plus driving hours per day (an unexpected benefit). We didn't have any hesitation going from Reverse to Drive with the 3.6R engine that often found with the 4 cylinder engine. We didn't have slippage (wheel spinning) going on to a major highway from a side road in the rain. With the keyless ignition, I did find out how to listen to the radio picking up the grandsons with the engine off. My wife and I love the car and would highly recommend the 3.6 Limited 2016 Subaru Outback. I'm lowering my review of the cargo/storage area to POOR because when I put in semi-full bags of leaves and push them forward, the last bags touch and turn on the cargo light switch in the roof. I didn't notice the light was on and had a dead battery the next day. This happened to me twice after going to the recycle center before I figured out that the cause of the dead battery was from pushing leaf bags in the cargo area that hit the cargo/storage light switch. I haven't had a dead battery since I check that the light is off after using the cargo/storage area.

I had been driving a luxury wagon for 10+ years, and it was time to get something new. I always assumed I'd once again buy expensive and keep whatever I got for 10 years. We looked at wagons/SUVs from Volvo, Lexus, etc., and had the budget to buy any of their models. We didn't like the Volvos. The Lexus RX350 was nice, but seemed a little too fancy for our needs. Also didn't like the lack of visibility out the back window. When I walked into the Subaru dealership, I was just there to cross the Outback off my list. (And it was only on the list because I kept seeing them zipping around on the freeway and had been experiencing car envy, which was odd considering that I always thought Outbacks were boring). I walked in, saw the Outback model parked on the dealership floor, and fell in love. There was no turning back.....that was the car for me. We bought it fully loaded, paying less than I'd paid 10 years ago for my luxury car. It's been a couple of weeks now and I LOVE this car. I don't know if I will keep it 10 years. It's nice to know that I don't have to, because the price was much more affordable. The car drives like a dream and it has everything I wanted inside and out. I've read all the criticisms of this car, and can honestly say that I've not experienced any of them. The car has ample pick-up, although yes, I have to step on it a little harder than I did with the old car. Once I adjusted to that, it's been smooth sailing.

I have now owned this 2016 3.6 loaded Subaru Outback 6 months. What I'm impressed with is the overall ride of the vehicle. Steering, suspension, quiet cabin, are all indications that the folks at Subaru have decided to make this more than just a quirky wagon. You can feel the grab of the all wheel drive system and it instills confidence for sure. My first long distance trip was seamless. The 6 cylinders clearly provide the passing power needed. The only issue I have is the radio reception. Compared to my last vehicle (2006 Acura MDX) the strength of the reception is noticeably weaker. Overall I just love the Outback!

I really enjoy our Outback. It is easy to get in and out. Easy to back up. And easy to drive, it holds the road and has pick-up when needed.

2016 Outback Premium with Eye Sight

I went for Eye Sight in lieu of Limited with leather. I still have power rear gate, heated front seats, dual climate zone, etc. as they come with the Eye Sight package for Premiums. I don't like the leather much anyways. Hot in summer, cold in winter. I love the car. The only thing I don't like is the CVT transmission. When you shift from R to D, it takes literally 2 seconds before it engages. It's not instant like a normal transmission. It can be an issue when you back up on a busy street. Check that out when you test drive. It's not as bad for me though. I think I'm getting used to it. UPDATE: It's been 6 months since I bought the car. We drove to Toronto and came back. With the adaptive cruise control and other eye sight features, the long haul was so easy. I'd definitely buy another Subaru in my next purchase.

I never thought I would love a station wagon, but the Outback has it all. Comfort, safety, performance, my wife and I are always fighting over who gets to drive it.
