The 2016 Chevy Malibu Premier is a wonderful car in every aspect. Since I'm over 6' tall, the Malibu Premier offers lots of leg room, extremely comfortable seating, and a smooth and comfortable ride. I've driven the car nearly 5,000 miles since purchasing it. I'm getting about 33 MPG on the highways and 27 MPG driving in the city. Since the car has a 2.0 turbo engine, it requires premium gas. I want you to know that I cannot complain either about the mileage or the ride. We've driven on country roads as well as in the city and on the interstate. The ride is of such a great quality that we haven't had the first complaint. I normally drive a BMW on a daily basis. The Malibu Premier offers a similar quality of ride, quietness, and acceleration as the BMW. Technologically, the car is one of most advanced vehicles on the road. We love the 4G internet. Bose sound system is just awesome to listen to our music. Mechanically, we did have two sensors and a USB port go dead. Chevy quickly replaced the parts; and, we're back up and running again. This has been one of the best GM purchases I've made. Highly recommend the car.

I would rather drive my 17 year old honda than this p.o.s. the ride was so noisy and unsteady,too many blind spots,interior is very poorly designed. I seriously didn't feel safe driving the car due to its poor outward visibility, and shaking, I had to to exchange it a better designed sedan (sonata).this experience has forced me to never consider GM products for anything.you would think a brand new car would have more pep,but then again it's a chevy.

This is the Premier line which also sums up my disappointment in the car. The under dash rattle is in harmony with the door panels that chatter. The last GM I bought was 1988 and it will be another 30 years maybe before I try one again. In our family between the two GM's, 3 jeeps, 2 dodges, 1 Ford, 3 Honda',s and 2 Hyundai's prove that cars can be made that don't rattle. It's a sexy car and semi-fun to drive, just not enjoyable to own. It is a bad copy of a good import.

After having car for 5 months, I had 10 things wrong with it. The dealer kept my car for 1.5 weeks, only for them to tell me they couldn't duplicate any of my complaints. First, the drivers door=was misalingned from factory, after dealer "realingned door, then it wouldn't close properly. It ripped the rubber gaskets. Also, the drivers door lock on the handle was getting so it wouldn't work (had to press the button at least 6 times to get it to unlock). The drivers seat bottom had a "loose" feeling to it when going around corners, told the dealer they wouldn't feel it in the city (straight roads), they couldn't get it to do it. The list goes on, too much for this review. All I know is after 5 months, I took a hit and unloaded this car and bought the Ford Fusion, MUCH better car and was cheaper than the malibu!!

Its a giant car so if will probably meet your space needs. I think I got an amazing deal. I would have had to pay the same amount for a leasing a corolla but with a low residual. I think its too big for a single guy like me but I its way more comfy than the compact sedans I test drove. I liked the ride and apple carplay and guided rearview camera is cool. Keyless entry Yes Please. Push Start button. Apple car play is amazing. It comes with onstar so I can have wifi within car, locate my car from my phone and even lock it. If your car has remote start it will let you do it from your phone as well. I will not end up continuing onstar because I am usually driving it alone and my phone internet is enough. The nice thing is the tech stuff comes with all trims but since its LS the interior doesn't come bells and whistles but its better than the basic trim of most (non luxury) compact sedans. Edmunds is right about the screen getting stains. Acceleration is not mind blowing in the start but does get the job done. You are not going to win races but you are not going to feel that its underpowered either. Mileage is not phenomenal but its not a deal breaker either. I was nervous about the start and stop but it never bothered me at all. I am single and fresh out of grad school and got this as my first car. My only regret is that I shouldn't have gotten this nice of a car but I think price wise it made a lot of sense. Its quite and handles bumpy road well. I had no trouble in acceleration at high speeds. Me and my sister went on a long trip and loved it. I love the looks of ford fusion but not a fan of how they their price and interior that comes with base trims. My personal opinion is that the interior of Malibu is a lot better than fusion interior and I love the infotainment (Did I mention carplay). I got compliments for the exterior so yeah I would definitely recommend it. If you can afford I would definitely recommend do get safety features like blind spot because the pillars are kind of thick.

I have had my Malibu for the past month and I do honestly love it. I traded in my 2015 Chevrolet equinox to get something smaller and better gas mileage and I do not regret my decision with the Malibu. Again I did get the base version so I do not have all the bells and whistles that I would've hoped for but even with that I get rear camera, touchscreen display, apple carplay, the rear seating is roomy. The acceleration isn't the fastest at first but if you give it a couple seconds it'll get pretty fast especially when merging onto the freeway. It is a push to start which I've never had before and I think this feature is awesome. The engine does auto stop which I had no idea about until I was driving it the day after purchase. I was never told about this feature before purchasing so I was really confused, so after I read my owners manual it told me what it was. I wasn't expecting it to be on a non-hybrid but if it's saving me gas I can't complain. I understand the jerking when you press the gas if you like to drive like [non-permissible content removed] and have no patience to accelerate when a light switches. I have had no problem with jerking motions thus far because the engine will start again once you ease off the brake and then accelerate. Honestly not a problem. The auto stop will activate when you stop after having been driving for a couple minutes or certain speed (not quite sure yet but this is what I've observed). Sometimes when I'm stopped at a light it will randomly turn the engine back on which I don't understand but I mean, it normally would be running in any other car, and that's not really a point that sold me on this car so I'm not mad. Overall I love this car, very sporty inside and out.

Very Nice Car for the Money

I have had this car since March and have put 17,000 miles + on it. I have had some interior vibration and rattles in the dash that seems to be poor design, problems with the adaptive cruise control being disabled for no reason and had that unit replaced. There have been issues with the sun roof privacy screen/shade locking up resulting in the sun roof not working and had to have it reprogramed at the dealer. While these issues are annoying overall the car is fantastic. The ride is excellent both city and highway. The gas mileage is outstanding 24+ in town and 33+ on the highway exceeding the published mpg ratings. The interior space in this car is excellent as well. I would recommend this car.

It drives smooth and quiet, very comfortable and roomy interior. large trunk space. I'm pretty sure It gets higher mileage than rated, drove it from New York to Montreal and arrived with 1/4 of a tank still full. The electronics are amazing!!! large display and very easy to understand, it is equipped with every gadget you can think of apple CarPlay, android auto, XM, Navigation and of course the Wi-Fi availability is a blessing. Connected the kids tablets to the Wi-Fi drove for 7 hours and did not hear them even once say the dreadful "are we there yet", also I must add that if your daily commute is driving in terrible slow traffic you are going to be happy with the noticeable gas savings and you will never be bored with all the array of radio stations and music available at your fingertips

Truly a superior and roomier design than many of the larger sedans, and most of the similarly sized competitors. Handles better, roomier, and much better cargo space than the Buick La Cross we replaced, (horrible headrests).

Miles per gallon were better then epa estimates. My Malibu has way to many rattles and interior vibrations for a new car. Dealer made half of a attempt to fix then. car left me stranded for 2 hours with check engine programming issue with auto stop start technology. The Bose speaker sound system is not all that good.

Had the car for a long term rental. Thoroughly unimpressed. Really sluggish acceleration. Transmission not ver responsive especially in reverse. The car wallowed like an overloaded boat even with only two people in it. Decent interior room but not much more to say on a positive note. Suffered seriously in comparison with our Camry and Sonata.

I read a lot of reviews and drove several cars before deciding to lease the Malibu. While I have only owned this for a little over a week, I am very happy with my decision. It is very quiet and comfortable. If I had to sum the car up in one word I would say it is smooth. Also, it is averaging 33mpg with mixed highway and city driving which is good for a car with this much interior room, trunk size, etc. The 1.5L engine definitely has adequate acceleration in any situation I have driven in including interstate driving. Since I have only had this a week, I cannot report on its reliability but I will submit a follow up in a few months. Overall I believe this is a very good choice for anyone looking at a mid sized car.

Are you ready to go back to the 1960s gas guzzlers? Then the Premier model is for you with the big engine (as is the next lower model when equipped with the big engine). After three months and about 1100 miles, almost all city driving, we have never had better than 14 mpg except for once when it went up almost to 16, though that tank included some freeway driving. The car seems to do quite well mileage-wise on the freeway, in the higher twenties. I have no idea how the EPA or GM came up with the 22 estimated MPG for city driving. AND THE CAR REQUIRES PREMIUM to get such lousy mileage. I was concerned about the low estimated mileage but never considered the possibility of getting such low mileage. The car is quite comfortable to drive and it handles and shifts well. The smaller engine is way underpowered (even for me who also drives a Prius so I am no power hungry person), which is why we got the bigger engine. I RECOMMEND AGAINST BUYING THIS CAR. One other note, the infotainment system is quite difficult to use and program. For EACH driver's phone, you need to program it for when that phone is not in the car, when that is connected to the infotainment system solely by blue-tooth and not by a cable connection, and when it is connected via a cable such that Car Play (or Android Play) is activated. And there are different commands and options depending on these three different situations, none of which are explained in the manuals. This includes two different navigation systems (the car's own system or the one from Apple or your Android phone). Many of your presets will be grayed out if they were programmed for a different phone or different usage pattern, We are computer and tech savvy people but find it difficult to use except for the most basic tasks. And the manual is not helpful.

It drives really nice. Quiet, and very comfortable interior. I love the acceleration in the little 1.5L, and I get mileage higher than rated. The electronics are easy to understand, and the Bose speakers sound terrific.

I have a lease for a 2016 Chevy Malibu LT1. There are some nice things about the car that I like, but there are quite a few areas that need improvement. First the good points: 1) The style of the car is very sharp. 2) The 1.5 liter turbo engine is surprisingly pretty good on acceleration. 3) The interior looks like a high-end luxury car with a few exceptions (see bad points). Next, the bad points: 1) The 7" Infotainment system is severely limited in that it does not provide a hands-free voice command interface to my smartphone over bluetooth. Instead, you have to use the touch-screen to make phone calls or play music via bluetooth. 2) There are hardly any storage compartments for things like sunglasses, coins, etc. The only storage compartments are on the doors, in the armrest and in the glove box. I have driven other cars that have change-holders, sunglasses holders, and other various storage compartments that are more convenient than what the Malibu provides. 3) The AutoStop feature can be annoying at times. It shuts the engine off too quickly when easing to a stop, especially if you are using the brake to ease forward into a parking space or the garage.

We purchased the new 2016 Chevrolet Malibu LT-1 with the Convenience and Technology, Leather, and Driver Confidence packages in December of 2015. We have loved the car in the six months we have owned it. We have put nearly 6000 miles on the car (including a trip through the mountains of Colorado to the Grand Canyon) and have averaged nearly 33 mpg overall. We got 38 mpg on our 2500 mile round trip vacation. The ride is extremely quiet and comfortable. The seating is great (I am 6'5) in both the front and back. There is plenty of room in the trunk for our trips to our baseball tournaments. The exterior gets stares everywhere we go -- love the body style. The engine acceleration won't knock you back in your seat but it is fine for our driving habits. It also does very well in the snow and rain and gripping on the highway. The safety features are awesome! Lane assist, front, side, and rear warnings, blind side warning, etc. are definitely worth the upgrade. Our complaints are small but include a lack of storage for coins and sunglasses, a lack of dual climate controls, and no memory settings on the driver's seat.

Let me start off by saying I traded in a little Toyota Prius C for this car (big mistake!) thinking it would be a nice, reliable larger vehicle. I was wrong. I purchased this car in March. With less than 1500 miles on it I have had it in the shop twice. The first time the car had less than 1k miles on it!! It feels like a transmission problem. I am familiar with the system where the car will turn itself off while at a stoplight and then back on again- I'm fine with that system. What is not okay is when driving in DC rush hour traffic, accelerating, braking, or slowing down and the car will violently jerk. The first time it felt as if I was rear-ended. I took it the dealer and they said they could not find any codes or problems with it. A week later, I had to drop it off it there again tonight. The car is unsafe to drive- the violent jerking is scary and in heavy traffic, cars behind you don't have much warning. It makes a loud clunking noise sometimes and sounds like the engine is going to drop out. The jerking is so bad if you don't have your seatbelt on, you WILL be thrown forward and injured. I can't believe this. This vehicle is less than one month old. Another issue is the Chevy MyLink system touchscreen. Occasionally it won't turn on, and other times Apple Carplay won't work. I called Chevy and they offered some "troubleshooting" tips but nothing was a permanent fix. I am having the dealer take a look at it as well. Chevy said Apple Carplay not working with certain Iphones is a "known problem". Then why has it not been fixed??! I am frustrated. I traded in a perfectly good little, reliable Toyota and got this monster. I like the car otherwise, but not enough to buy one again. It is very comfortable (compared to the tiny Prius C). My gas mileage is pretty decent- hovers around high 20's and occasionally dips up or down. I'm very short and find visibility not to be an issue. If It didn't have the jerking problem, I would love this car.

I have a long term lease on this car. Everything is great except the stop start on the Eco option. I despise it. I hate sitting at a red light and when it turns green and I press on the gas pedal. The car jolts and it's as if someone is hitting me in the rear. Also the fuel economy on this car isn't that great. I got better gas mileage on a dodge challenger. Other than the fuel and Eco stop start the car is an excellent choice!!

Spent 6 days and over 800 miles driving the new model Malibu as a rental. Surprisingly, this was the new 2016 model and not the 2016 Limited that you would typically find in a rental fleet. I currently own a 2015 Malibu 1LT and love it as well. I would say that the new 1.5L base engine in the new 2016 Malibu is definitely adequate. Acceleration is not going to push you back into your seat, but is certainly adequate, even for merging into high speed traffic in Washington DC with short on-ramps (I know, rare that you ever have to merge into "high speed" traffic in DC!). The seats were especially comfortable in the front. While I prefer the leather in my 2015 Malibu, the cloth seats were exceptionally comfortable for long drives (3+ hours at a time). My rear-seat, adult passengers did comment they felt the seats in my 2015 1LT were more comfortable than these in the new 2016; however, they did state that they weren't uncomfortable nor did they feel cramped. I was very impressed with the fuel economy of the 1.5L base engine as, just like I get in my 2.5L 2015 Malibu, I averaged 40+ mpg on the highway at 60-65mph speeds. If you are willing to sacrifice fuel economy, the 2.0L turbo sounds like it provides very nice power; however, the fuel economy of the 1.5L combined with very adequate acceleration make this a definite winner in my book.

Just leased a new 2016 Malibu Premier mostly for the wife but also for me (have a company truck). It does everything exceedingly well. It looks fantastic in and out. The 2.0 Turbo is a gem, and is very smooth and quiet even from outside of the car. Maximum torque is available from 2000-5000 RPM and combined with the 8 speed transmission it is rewardingly responsive at all speeds. That combined with the lighter weight and excellent steering it feels to me almost like a sports sedan, and I have had a few sports cars in the past. The ride is firm and composed, and the cabin attractive and quiet. This replaced my wife's 2008 Saturn Aura with the 3.6 V-6 which had plenty of power but which wasn't readily available from the 6 speed transmission unless it was punched. The Malibu power comes on early and strong with only partial throttle inputs as the 8 speed eagerly downshifts when asked. I had reservations about the Turbo 4 and not sure about its long term reliability but not too worried as this engine has been used by GM for a number of years and the car is leased so that is not an issue to me. It is also agile and light on its feet around corners and has a far more rigid structure compared to her Saturn, which I liked very much. The technology is amazing. The My Link interface is intuitive and fairly easy to use. The navigation has a second integrated window that shows what the road actually looks like, including the number of lanes on the road. Voice commands work failry well. Blind spot alerts in the mirrors and moving vehicle alerts when backing up also work well. The Bose sound system sounds good to me. There are some downsides...no spare tire (bought a bunch of tire plugs...also has roadside assistance for 5 years...although I might spring for an optional spare)....and my wife mentioned the noticeable downshifts from the transmission which I told her was normal and frankly don't bother me. Premium fuel is "recommended" which tells me performance and mileage will be less with regular. In mostly city driving we are seeing about 22 MPG. On the highway it is indicating around 35 MPG according to the trip computer. In summation, other than more power (probably not practical with FWD) I can't see how the driving experience could get much better.

The car has saved me so much in gas! Traded in my GMC Terrain which was rated at 32 MPG which I was lucky to get 23 MPG mostly highway miles. I can actually get 35 MPG with my Malibu. It's a smooth quiet ride ! Would definitely recommend it to anyone! Feels like a full size family car so much room inside and in the trunk.

After 4500 miles I gave the car to my niece. I started having hip pain due to the driver's seat relationship to the gas and break pedal. The break pedal needs to move 2" to the right. The seat is uncomfortable and needs another 2-3" of foam. I ended up getting a 2016 altima and the hip pain took almost two weeks to go away; the seats are so comfortable. What a difference. Yes the Malibu does drive incrementally better and has better steering feel, but it's not worth the passion and discomfort. I test drive over 20 cars trying to make sure I would not end up with the issue of the break pedal to seat ergonomic nightmare of the Malibu. It was between a used 5 series with the sports package seats (the base seats are not any better than those on the Malibu) or the Altima. For some reason I found that most new cars have moved the break pedal towards the left! Huge mistake. -------------- Make sure you take a 30 minute drive in it. the front drivers seat is uncomfortable. I went from a 2013 Altima to the 2016 Malibu and i miss my Altima's seats so much. these are next to the worst front seats I've ever experienced. almost as bad as the 1998 Geo Prizm. what a mistake. i'm going to lose some money to get out of it before i even even make a payment for the car. while the steering tilts and telescopes the seat location, steering location and brake pedal are not tying in to my body. i am 5'9" 168lbs. for 286 miles of driving and i still can not locate a seating position that is comfortable for me. the real reason is the bottom cushion which is too thin and points upwards for some reason at the edge, and they are too short. it is almost like they went for good interior materials and design, but took the money from the seats. I would trade hard plastic for good seats without a second thought.

2.0 is the way to go!

Great ride- firm but smooth and quiet. Acceleration is strong but linear- not sudden jerk. Average 30 MPG. Handling is sporty- but not a sports sedan. Transmission shifts smoothly and always in the right gear- no hunting. Seats are comfortable. Forward visibility is good, but headlights just adequate. Side and rear pillars block view- rear camera helps with backing, but not great- maybe just need to get used to it. Forward Collision Assist is okay, but rain and fog can cause inaccurate calculation which has resulted in sudden braking for no reason- no cars on rural road. Side mirror alert also shows a ghost vehicles- ie none there. Lane Assist does not work well in wet weather.

Great looks, performance and comfort... I'm a fan!

I'm impressed with pretty much every aspect of the all-new Malibu. The styling is super appealing, at least in my eyes. I went with the 1LT with the Sun & Wheels package, Driver Confidence package, Leather (with 9-speaker Bose system) package, and the Convenience and Technology package. Let me say, the 1.5L Turbo is surprisingly peppy. And fuel economy is outstanding! I achieved 38.3 mpg over a 50 mile drive. And, in stark contrast to another reviewer here, I'm throughly impressed with the stop/start technology. It's pretty much seamless. And in rush-hour, stop and go traffic I like the fact that I'm not wasting fuel and pumping hydrocarbons! I often drive 200 - 300 miles a day for my job, and I'm not totally fatigued when I get home at night. The new seating w/power lumbar is comfortable and supportive. Oh, an lots and lots of rear seat leg room, unlike the Malibu this replaces! OK... only one downside. Like I said, I drive a lot. And I find I have to fill the tank about every day and a half. I wish the tank was a bit larger, but I guess that would affect the overall fuel economy. Drive it. I think you'll like it.

My 2014 Odyssey was hit in the rear pretty bad a week ago. His name is Reggie, poor Reggie. It is in the body shop getting repaired. I have this 2016 Malibu Eco LTZ as a rental for two weeks from Hertz. To be fair, overall it is a nice car. Handles nicely like a German car - like our 2000 Jetta when it was new. The styling is nice, the technology is nice, the ride is sporty and fun to drive, the handling is sporty and fun to drive. HOWEVER, all the nice features fall apart because it is designed to completely stop and turn off when you come to a complete stop in order to save gas. It is a HORRIBLE and extremely ANNOYING feature!!!! Our Honda van has an eco mode that saves gas but it does not involve turning completely off at every single stop light. The eco mode of our van does not turn off to save gas but engages when the car is MOVING. This Malibu is a nightmare to drive because of this aggravating feature. We have begun making a game of it to keep from getting mad. If you turn the Air conditioning on (comfort mode not eco mode), the engine sorta turns off less. If you shift into Neutral as you stop at a stoplight, it keeps running. If you press on the gas lightly as you have your foot firmly down on the brake at a complete stop, it does not shut off. Even more of a JOKE, at a long stop light, the car will just UNEXPECTEDLY turns back on on its own if you are at a long long light. What a JOKE about saving gas! Thankfully, it is only a rental and I can turn it back into Hertz in two weeks. We have named the car Obama, as the president and his eco nut friends are probably very proud of themselves for inspiring such a junky car feature to save gas - eco nuts! Don’t buy this car if you are a car enthusiast or a enjoy driving like us, the shut off feature will drive you nuts unless you make it a game.

DON'T buy this car with the start / stop system you will hate it, it works when it wants to. The transmission is so clunky, the car skips and lunges when you least expect. Let's not forget the dealerships are not telling you about the start/stop system, when I test drove mine it never shut off once until I got home and drove it that night(Thursday). I called the dealership they told me to bring it in Monday, then they said " What your experiencing is the start/stop system. I told them I didn't want the car, they told me too bad. I HATE this car, it's JUNK!!!!!!!!!

Ok, I just got my 2016 Malibu LT with the Driver Confidence package and the Technology package and I have to say I LOVE it! I had a 2010 Malibu LT2 and swore I would never buy another GM car again. This car is so far beyond the 2010 model it's crazy! I can't believe I bought another one but so far I'm happy I did. You really need to go see it in person and drive it. I bought both of my cars at Bob Steele Chevrolet. They are the best with sales and their service department always goes above and beyond to take care of me.

I have purchased a 2016 1LT with the Convenience and Technology package on 1/2016. So far this car is great. Very smooth and has better power output than my previous car (that has a 2.0L N/A 4 banger). The seats are very comfortable and sink in when you sit in it. The lumbar support is great and visibility is very sleek. I'm retiring from my rice burner days for something very quite and easy cruiser for everyday tasks. I personally call it the quarter life crisis car.

Just took delivery of 2016 Malibu LT. I had a 2010 Malibu and didn't think there would be difference between the cars well I was wrong. The 2016 is a great car to drive and the apple car play is a great feature especially living in New Hampshire were hands free is the law. Would highly recommend this vehicle to anyone and also would recommend them to go Commonwealth Chevrolet.
