I want to start by admitting I am a little bias coming from a minivan that offered space and those little things I just assumed where standard on a vehicle. To begin, I bought my Equinox based on different reviews I read and the commericals, very compelling. So I take full responsiblity for not looking closer and asking a few extra questions. Firstly, the gas milesage is horrible. I tried using the "eco" button but that seems to open a valve and even more gas falls out. My minivan is 10 years old and doesn't use as much gas. Secondly, the backseat does not have air vents. In order to cool off or heat up a car, you have to either freeze or burn the front passengers. WHY?? I did not pay attention there were no vents in the back. This and the gas mileage are what bothers me most and I would give the care back tomorrow if I could. Thirdly, storage is non-existent, if you want to grocery shop for a large family, not for you. Fourth, I test drove a 2015 but bought a 2016. Where is my CD player, who moved it. I feel this designed is to force you to pay for Sirrus XFM, I dont want to. Overall, I am not happy. I did not mark it down pass the three stars because I should have done better homework.

Have had this 2016 Equinox for three weeks now and totally love it. The ride is fantastic. Both my wife and I have commented how our legs don't feel like rubber after getting out from a trip. Car handles wonderfully with great steering and comfortable ride. So far I have been averaging slightly over 27 MPG on the highway here in New England and better than 23 MPG around town. The 4 cyl. 2.4 engine is great and has plenty of power to handle the hills and can easily pass on the highway without punching the pedal. Could not be happier with this choice. Only con is that my wife is short and cannot reach the back hatch to close it. Didn't want to get the LTZ package. Oh well...minor issue and made her a grabber to reach the hatch hand hold.

Don't overlook this car

If you value rear seat room for adults over cargo space, look at the Equinox. The seats are comfortable and the ride is smooth. Most everything is fine, but not spectacular. There are compact SUV's with more pep and fuel economy, but the Equinox is reliable.

Rental cars are typically what they are, cars that are beaten on, and nothing special, but this one is about the best GM vehicle i have driven (car only has 1125 miles). The panel fitment on the body is terrible, interior is cheap, and the plastics are 1970's quality, but the transmission is the best automatic 4cyl trans that GM has to offer, the shifts are crisp in comparison to other GM products, the engine is unrefined, and i would absolutely opt for the v6, but it's better than the turbo offerings. Low end torque is there and throttle response is good enough to drive in city traffic or cruise on the highway. The seats are big, comfortable if not a little too soft, the interior seating quality will never last as long as the car, but then people who buy GM products typically don't expect them to last hundreds of thousands of miles either (if they did, buy a Pushrod GM product). The SUV is good on gas averaging 24MPG Eco mode in city traffic, and 33MPG eco mode on the highway, not too bad. Looks are a subject of taste, but the front of the thing looks like a joke, the high trim line over the front, just makes it look weird to me, the older ones were way better looking IMO. As far as the entertainment system, it is cheap, the speakers are cheap, the head unit is like every other GM delco branded unit, but it is lacking features that exist on higher end cars, or upscale models, it's Ok to drive, the seating position is more car like than the Buick Encore or Chevy Trax, but the SUV still feels top heavy. The Big tires, smaller wheels on the LT trim line make the steering very vague, and not very positive on where the wheels are facing.. It honestly feels twitchy. Personally, i am very critical when it comes to cars, and each person will have their own tastes, expectation, and personalities, but from a critical outlook i will say that this is not the best car on the road, and frankly for the price, it isn't even in the middle as per where i would rate it against other offerings, but.. It is one of the better GM products.. Maybe not in the looks, maybe not in the exterior build quality, or interior fit and finish, but the engine, and transmission feel like one of the better products, and when buying american, you want something that will run, and be easy to fix. This is something i would give a good rating for, the ease of repair, and the quality of the engineering feel like they are there..

Mine is equipped with the 300hp V6, loads of power and is a pleasure to drive. The 4 cyl just doesn't have what it takes for me. Opt for the V6. Nice quite ride and handles good. Nice driver on the long trips. Ours is fully loaded and love the theater effect lighting at night. Overall a great SUV. Some complain no CD player.... well get with the now people !!! CDs are gone. Why load CDs and have maybe 100 songs when you can use mp3 plug in and have a 1000 songs or use your smart phone, already using Bluetooth anyways. Awesome SUV and I highly recommend it.

Couldn't be happier with this vehicle.

We were intending tp purchase equinox, but nothing on 4 cylinder offered dual control ac. One of us prefers 60-65 degrees, while the other prefers 70-75 degrees. We decided that was essential looking toward our next 45 years. So we chose Ford Edge SEL

We miss these three accessories the most on our top of the Equinox line SUV. (1) the CD player (2) the glove box light and... (3) the heated steering wheel. A very poor decision on the part of GM management to eliminate these items.

I'm a traveling salesman and spend quite a bit of time on the road. I wanted a vehicle with decent comfort and fuel mileage, but even more important was passenger comfort. No other small or even medium SUV has the rear legroom of an Equinox. I can fit 4 good size adults comfortably. The sliding rear seat makes all the difference. If I need more cargo space, I can slide the seat all the way forward and have a large cargo area... Or conversely, slide it back and have massive leg room for passengers. The one downside so far is the navigation... It is very clumsy to operate and will only hold a maximum of 30 favorite destinations. Even my $100 TomTom held 100 favorites.

I love my Equinox, 2nd time leasing. Go for the upgrades because it's worth it and better quality/feel. I can't get more value in upgrade options for the price, compared to other SUV'S in its class. It drives great, very well made and still presents brand new, one year into my lease. Very comfortable front seats with netted soft clothe. Never had any problems with either of my Equinoxes. I may go for the top of the line luxury options, next one I get as I upgrade each time.

Was disappointed--BUT dealer has redeemed! This is a cute SUV, but I had the LT, 6 cylnder exactly 2 weeks and the 3, 5, R drum in the transmission went. Prior to the car dying at a busy intersection without warning, I had gone through 3 tanks of gas in 2 weeks (dealership states because of the transmission?) I smelled gas when I would use the remote start. Rear view backup camera was foggy at night. Remote buttons on key were so hard to push it was difficult to turn on the remote start or open the doors quickly. HOWEVER, I have been in touch with the dealer and they will swap out the car for another new vehicle of equal value. I am very satisfied with that outcome and I am willing to give the Equinox another chance!! Thank you!

I just purchased the 2016 Equinox LT with the 2.4L engine and AWD (Patroit Blue Metallic) I also just came from a similar vehicle, which was a 2015 Jeep Cherokee Latitude 2.4L 4x4 (Eco Green). The Jeep was my second Jeep and my last! Chrysler's dealer network is just not as accomodating, well-training, and educated as Chevy's. My conclusion... "See ya later Jeep!". The Equinox is superb and I can honestly say it has the best legroom in its class, period! The interior is ergonomically sound with great technology, comfort and fit/finish. Let me criticize a lot of reviewers out there. Some are customers and others are Journalists...The complaints about the 2.4 are ludicrous. If you have ever driven a 4 cylinder engine and know what to expect/not expect from one, you'll be fine with the performance of this vehicle. The 2.4 and 6 speed combo feels just as good as my 2.4 and 9 speed in the Cherokee. Trust me, you can pass people on the highway and you DONT need to floor it to do so. It has plenty of pep and way better gas mileage than the V6. Unless your towing something, just save yourself the money and get the 4. Don't listen to all these reviewers that want an SUV but also want their SUV to accelerate like a lamborghini. The Equinox 2.4 is just fine!!!! Also, if anyone is wondering I test drove the following before ridding myself of a problematic Jeep: - Rav4 - Escape - Edge - Murano - Rogue - Tuscon - Santa Fe - Sportage - Forester - CX9 - Equinox Going back to the legroom. The most important aspect of us choosing the Equinox, for anyone in a similar situation, was legroom. I am six ft. with long legs and am not comfortable in many small SUVs. We had it narrowed down to the Rogue, which we took for an overnight, and the Equinox. The Equinox had the best legroom in its class by far! I can scoot up to the wheel or have my legs fully extended (with boots on). Also BTW. My dad has a 2012 Equinox, My Mom had a 2010 and just bought a 2015 last years as well. Both have no problems with theirs. Highly satisfied with this vehicle and would recommend to anyone!

I test drove the 4 cylinder model and thought it was sluggish especially climbing hills. I opted for the 6 cyl. which has about a 100 more hp than the 4 cyl. model. The power is great now, the car seems more solid and has a quiet and smooth ride. Options I like are the driver convenience package, sun sound & navigation package, rear liftgate power (which gives you the homelink option for opening your garage doors), and the driver confidence package. The premium sound is nice to listen to and the sound is even throughout the vehicle. I especially like the driver visibility and height at which you are sitting while driving. So far I averaged 20 mpg on the first tank of fuel, but I logged quite a bit of time idling in my driveway learning all the features on this suv. Just two added features would be nice on the Equinox and they would be: 1) heat vents for the rear passengers and 2) an audible speed alarm which you can set to go off it you exceed the predetermined speed setting. The ride is so smooth and with the v6 power, you can easily exceed the highway speed limits and not realize it. I added mud flaps, Husky floor mats and door sill protectors to keep the vehicle looking nice for a longer period of time.

Edmunds is out of their minds.

We came from a 2013 base model LS Equinox that was a lease. As low rent as it was the features for the time were impressive and lacked nothing we really wanted. Its glaring weakness was the 2.4 engine that always had to be beaten hard to get anywhere and we didn't have AWD or leather which we wanted on the next car. I tried to get another car, I tested the CR-V which rode harshly and was loud inside with a terrible radio set up but did have the great magic seats, Honda does do a great interior. Still we almost bought it till we learned about the cvt vibration problems that most owners have, dodged a bullet on that. The CX-5 Mazda...I just don't get Edmunds praise, its a lot of money for a bumpy, harsh and noisy ride with poor interior space and a center stack that is unreadable in motion. Neither of these was especially quick compared to the 4cyl Equinox either and the rear seat room for people on the Chevy is unbeatable, its limosine levels of legroom. So we got a v6 LTZ AWD and it was love at first drive. The acceleration is much better than the 2.4, taking care of our major issue with our 2013. It drives how I want the family truckster to drive, smooth ride, relaxed and quiet with plenty of get up and go. Why Edmunds praises jittery and stiff rides in a family car I can't comprehend, its not a track day machine guys and nobody wants their kids, or dogs, puking in the back because of the ride. The Equinox is secure handling and predictable, never feels dangerous and can be driven all day without penalty to your body or ears. The LTZ v6 suspension is a bit firmer than our 2013 but not painfully and has real hydraulic steering with much better feel and feedback than the electric units most common today including in the 4cyl Equinox. My only issues with our new Chevy is the warning signal overload. I like the mirror light blind spot warnings and the backing up cross traffic alert but the frontal collision alarm goes off at random sometimes, first time almost made me stain the new leather so it was disabled very quickly, at least you can turn it off. The lane change warning has never been turned on because besides being annoying its dangerous. If I have to swerve to avoid something I don't want to be confused if the alarm going off is because there is a car in my blindspot or just because I am crossing a lane line. At least it does not have any automatic braking features. It may sound callous but I'd rather risk mowing someone down than having the system misread a road shadow or raccoon, slam on the brakes and get me rear ended by a bus killing everyone in the car. So take Edmunds review with a grain of salt, think about how you want your family and crap hauler to be used. You want safe, quiet and comfortable or a track day special that rides like a '69 Scout? Its as bad as Consumer Reports riding down on the Jeep Wrangler every year because it doesn't ride like a Cadillac, they can't review a car for what it is intended to do only what they believe the only acceptable car is. To them every degree deviation from Honda Accord is a point off, regardless of what that car is intended to do. Edmunds seems to do the same but perhaps their benchmark is the MX-5 Miata.
