Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2015 Jetta vehicles manufactured July 11, 2014, to November 13, 2014. Due to incorrect software within the headlight control module, the low beam headlights may turn off when high beam lights are turned on. As a result, the light output from the headlights may be insufficient. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108. "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

Comparing this car to my 2009 Volkswagen Jetta S 2.5. Not many changes in between then and the 2015. The A/C is just as good, the design is pretty much the same. One thing they did better in the 2015 model, is putting the auxiliary port in front of the car, instead of in the center console. Compared to my car, this one lacks so much power! I seem to have to press the pedal to the metal just to accelerate at a rate that makes me seem like I'm not an old grandmother driving. Even then, it lacks power. I don't think I'd get a new Jetta. Maybe look at the new Passat or Golf.

My wife was in need of a car, and we had 7 days to car shop. She insisted on a manual transmission. We looked at the Accord Sport (excellent car, a bit to big for her taste), Mazda 3 with the base engine (anemic/cheap) and a Subaru WRX (amazing). We already have a BRZ, so we decided the extra expense of the WRX was unnecessary. There were only two 1.8TSI 5 speed cars in Houston at the time, and the first one I test drove was already purchased when I came back a second time to buy. The second test drive sold me on the car. The engine has a beefy flat torque curve, and it's probably underrated. It can produce "neck snapping" torque that can move the car to where you want it. The car does not come with a TC off button. Surprisingly, with aggressive driving in low speed sharp turns, the traction control allows for an appropriate amount of wheel spin to get you around quickly, and the corrections don't slow you down too much. Its rare that you find 15" wheels on a new car, and I greatly appreciate them. They do well on rough roads, and overall comfort. The 15" wheels also fit more than adequate brakes. Up there with the brilliant engine is a phenomenal suspension. There is very little slop in the suspension, and it is tuned well. It's extremely comfortable and can handle rough terrain like a champ. Another thing it does well is maintain stability through high speed corners. It hunkers down and there is a good amount of grip, and it can be driven smoothly at a nice pace. Compared to Japanese/Korean luxury cars I have recently driven, I prefer the Jetta's suspension, and for that matter, the over all comfort. The cabin is vault like. The only thing lacking in this base model is the front seats. I find there is not enough lumbar support, and sometimes when I'm moving about, the construction of the seats feels cheap. On the positive side, the fabric is durable and the heaters work well. The clutch on this car is pretty light, and I'm not sure if its a VW thing, but it feels weak. It doesn't grab as well as the sports cars I have driven. It has hill start assist which is helpful, but on a big hill, I find myself using twice as much clutch as I need to use in my BRZ. The gear shift has a vague feeling to it, but once you hit gear, there is a bit of a satisfying engagement. I have probably shifted into 3rd instead of 1st about 5 times over the past two years, and stalled, easy to do with the "light" clutch. The overall value is questionable. I think the trade in value is around $12,000, and I paid $18,000 OTD interest free. Still, at that price, I don't think the power, and overall quality feel of this car can be matched. Not considering the new Civic, which was not available at the time of purchase. But with max torque across the board, this sleeper is a blast to drive, and you can surprise some big bad wolves for a 1/2 a second. This is a sub 7 second 0-60 vehicle. I'm hoping to keep this for 100,000 miles or more, but I will probably tire of the manual transmission in traffic. We have achieved 43 mpg on a tank of gas on the highways traveling 75 mph+ (wife was driving). In town I believe it gets somewhere above 30 mpg. With just me city driving on a tank, I returned 27 mpg, but I stay in the boost. It's addicting.

Leased this Jetta about 1500 miles ago. So far OK. Biggest complaint is the transmission is not smooth at all. Can be a little jumpy. Kinda weird that the sticker price for this car was $26k (I didn't pay that though) and it doesn't have auto headlights, climate control A/C and auto seats . It has heated seats, but not auto seats. Weird to me. Front buckets seats are OK, but back seat is awesome. Lots of legroom for a small car. The leatherette is OK but can get a little swampy on really hot days. Averaging 30 miles to the gallon right now, which is OK. I do mostly freeway driving with surface street driving on weekends, but I do have a bit of a lead foot to be honest. Acceleration is pretty good and much better than other small cars I have driven, then again with the TSI that should be expected. It's pretty fun to drive, but probably more a young person's car than a family car. I guess I'm a young 44 because I think it's fun, though I do prefer the interior room and comfort of my Volvo S60. Instrumentation and touch screen entertainment/nav system is pretty user friendly after a very small learning curve. I am not a fan of the shiny chrome/black interior look but that is very typical of sporty cars nowadays. Navigation doesn't come with real time traffic so I am not really using it much. Love the blind side monitor on mirrors--very useful and makes me feel safer. Love the remoteless entry, exit and push start. I never use my keys and remote now and I love that. Exterior styling on this car is outstanding. It's a really cute car and I get tons of compliments although there are lots on the road. We did a 4 year lease and will be happy to keep this car for that entire time. Especially with the all-inclusive maintenance.

As some who went to school for Diesel Technology in 2009. I learned about the urea and other emission systems coming into play to reduce emissions in diesels. I've also had a desire to own a diesel since my days in the military driving MK23's, MK25's and other MK variants. I settled on the 2015 Jetta TDI S with the connectivity package as it was close to memorial day and the price had gone down 5k since looking at the car. I didn't need a high end vehicle as I now work for the railroad and the yards I drive into aren't what you would say vehicle friendly. They had what I was wanting on the lot as seen online and had the keys in hand by the end of the week. In August 2015 my wife and I drove from Northwest Indiana to Key West Florida non stop with only 3 fill ups averaging 53.6 MPG off the receipts. We averaged close to the same as well as the number of fill ups on the way back. I drive 43 miles round trip in mixed driving and have been averaging around 45.4 in the warmer months to 42.2 in the Winter months. I fill up every 2 weeks compared to an 05 Impala I had which was usually every 6 days. The price of fuel where I live is cheaper than gas so the fuel savings are greater for me. I spend the same amount now as I did when driving the Chevy albeit it with longer driving cycles. Ride comfort is excellent especially where I drive and the crummy winters we have. I've only had one warranty repair as of yet for a bolt missing from the brake caliber which came like that from the factory. As a diesel mechanic doing most of my own repairs will save me the trip of spending and arm and a leg though as I do not have all the tools need would trust my dealership to get certain jobs done right. All in all I'm satisfied with my Jetta even if lacking a few points in certain areas, which is to be expected in any vehicle. As far as the emission scandal these cars are still cleaner than their gas counterparts. With a small number of TDI drivers on the road spread throughout the US the risks of the pollution is reduced than say if they were located within the confines of San Diego. In addition NOx only accounts for less than 6% of greenhouse gases in which the last finding is from 2014 which includes the 2009-then current 2014 model years. The levels of NOx in the atmosphere as far as US stats are concerned has remained pretty constant since 1990 even with the advent of newer emission reduction devices. (All stats found on the EPA website) I will get the repair even though in Indiana we are not required to have our diesels tested, and will find a good tune to apply to gain any reductions in power or economy.

Poor acceleration in city. High maintenance costs (oil changes are $80 and if you do it yourself, VW voids the Warranty). Any issues with the car, VW won't fix it right away (like my ex-Toyota dealer). Gas mileage is HIGHER than on a window sticker. Transmission is "jerky": non-CVT type (assuming that this is why gas mileage is so poor for 1.4 L engine. Very underpowered for heavy car like this. The amount of HP they give you is with its turbo ON (which is always OFF in the city). I wish I bought any Toyota...

I purchased this vehicle brand new in May of 2015. The vehicle is white on the exterior with a black interior. The white, even though it's called 'pure white', has a hint of gray hues. The steering wheel has access to multiple features, such as: MPGs, average MPH for two drivers, audio/stereo controllers, etc. The navigation screen is somewhat small, but the back-up camera is quick to respond and works well at night (due to the back up light illumination). The problems I've had with this car: -below 74 degrees Fahrenheit, the dual climate simply blows cold. I took it in for diagnoses, but since this occurs while driving; it was unable to be replicated. -the frame around the climate controls on the center-console, has cracked due to fluctuations in temperature. there are cracks around the temperature that could not have been caused by use; rather it is a defect in manufacturing. -the volume controller on the stereo, on the center console, has cracked in half for an unknown reason. There are no stress marks on the plastic, but I believe it was associated with the plastic material they have used throughout. -The 'chrome' frame around the shifter has also cracked without any pressure; again, due to the materials they have used. -Steering wheel: the volume controller on the steering wheel occasionally changes the stereo channel. Unfortunately, this only happens about once a week, and I'm unable to take it to the dealer at that exact moment. They have been unable to diagnose the problem. I have contacted Volkswagen, but since this is aesthetics issue; they have been extremely difficult to work with. Now, the car performance: the car runs great. However, this is the first diesel I have owned, and perhaps the last (due to the recall notice). The car seems to almost shut down at intersections, but that may be due to the computer patch upgrade they made in May causing more combustions for the exhaust removal (part of a recall prior to the EPA making their discoveries public). The acceleration is extremely poor with select performance, even when the vehicle has been warmed up for a minimum of 10 minutes in 60 degree weather. -The trunk doesn't align correctly, so closing it requires that you close it immediately over the back 'VW' emblem for it to latch. If you are off, it bounces out of place and makes an awful noise. -The Car App to show how your car is performing is a complete JOKE. It takes several minutes to establish a connection, and oftentimes it doesn't pinpoint where your vehicle is at. In fact, I often get a map of the U.S without an identifier of where my vehicle is stationed. Additionally, it crashes frequently and locking the car can take an average of 15 minutes--- If you are sold by this feature, think again. It is absolutely awful. -The Car Net service that enables you to talk to someone is absolutely awful as well. It cost about $20/month, but the connection takes several minutes. I spent 15 minutes working to speak with someone twice; needless to say, I haven't contacted them again. The representatives are outsourced, so when I did speak with them, I had to hear about how the person had no money and their car was broken down. It's definitely not worth it. Items that I like: - you can change the bluetooth connectivity without needing to restart the car; something that my 2013 Jetta SE couldn't do without restarting the car. -the navigation is quite accurate, within feet of speed limit changes and intersections. Unfortunately, you do need to have the audio up on the car to hear it, but I can't seem to circumvent the radio at the same time; even after following the instructions. I imagine if I did get in a car accident, this service would be a complete waste of time as the notification of the airbags being deployed would fall on empty ears. Conclusion: Though VW is attempting to offer more services, similar to American-made cars; they are jumping in without the proper knowledge in competition with OnStar and digital features as part of their convenience package. The car's performance seems to have been there at some point, but due to recent 'updates' to the emissions; it has caused the performance to decrease. The car itself seems to have been crafted with inferior materials as many of the features are falling apart; some of which have never been used.

2015 Jetta S with 5 speed manual transmission and the 2.0 liter engine.....getting 40 mpg on highway and mid-30's combined driving. Gas mileage is impressive. The 2.0 engine is pretty unimpressive though and lacks great power, but with a 5 speed manual transmission, you can work around some of its short comings. I would not want this engine with the automatic transmission. The car itself is very comfortable, handles well and has a very quiet cabin. As a commuter car, this has everything I need and looks sharp.

I leased this car for my mom who needed a new car quick - I gravitated towards the Jetta since VW offered its "sign and drive" event. What enticed me to this car was the bluetooth and backup camera. Not to mention, the stylish exterior lines and LED type lighting under the licence plate made this car a great modern option for around $250 a month and no money down. 1 year later, she doesn't need the car anymore, and I'm now in possession of it. This car drives awful. It has awful cheap suspension, cheap tires, and literally jerks during shifting as if I'm in a manual transmission car. I get car sick from driving. This is a great car for a teen driver, or someone that just needs a quick cheap car - but for someone that is used to luxury cars and trying to compromise by saving money - no way. Awful. I'm hoping to test drive a Passat and Toureg and trade it in on a new lease at the 1 year mark in December. Great gas milage, decent visibility. Decent looks - drives like a car in or below it's price range. I've also noticed paint chips and peeling - less than 1 year of ownership. Lease this car - don't purchase it! ****Update*****4/13/16: Edmunds emails me asking me to "update my review". Well, I still HATE this car. It's a cheap piece of metal. Drives terrible, the backup camera sometimes doesn't work, and I CAN'T WAIT till the lease ends. IT's a super cheap car, but I would never lease this again. I have a friend that pays over $300/mo (no down) on the Jetta GLI and loves it, however I'm not spending over $300 on a JETTA, even if it has leather, turbo engine, ect. No thanks. For that, I'd rather have a luxury car. I can't believe people actually LIKE this car. It drives horrible and feels so cheap. I don't drive it much (try not to) however every other week or so I take it on longer (2-3 hour) drive to San Diego from LA. It's not that great on gas. The only thing I like about it is the SIRUS radio.

The interior room of the Jetta is pushing the size of a mid-size car, especially the rear seats. I'm 6'4" and my 5'11 son can sit behind me comfortably without nagging me to move the seat up. The car handles confidently at high speeds; I can tell this was built for the Autobahn. It seems to be more sure-footed the faster you go. The acceleration of the 1.8 turbo is exceptional. Granted, a good-sized V6 would be able to pull away, but I've gotten out of some tight spots because my car had the yank to put me ahead of cars and trucks whose drivers were probably playing Bubble Witch on their phones. To be honest, I am a bit concerned about the long-term reliability though. Compared to a Honda or Toyota, I have a feeling it might be more costly in the long run. Time will tell. Some people seem to have really good experiences; others, not so much. For now, it seems to be very solid. No rattles or squeaks. It's more fun to drive than a Corolla or a Civic, and it's much roomier, so I'm happy for now. I'm going to take the advice of other VW owners--stay on top of maintenance. German cars don't seem to handle neglect well.

Great car for long trips, very comfortable and quiet ride, put it into Sport mode and zip around town, this car has a lot of power you can tap into. Comfortable seats and well laid out and classy looking interior. A good all round car, I like it.

Update: at 3300 miles on the car my wife was at a stop light. She stepped on gas to leave the stop light, the motor raced to 6,000 rpm's and engine roared but the speed stayed the same. This scared the hell out of her, she pulled into a parking lot and turned off the motor and waited a few minutes and drove home. I drove it for 30 minutes trying to replicate the problem. This has not happened since. Driver's seat: I needed to buy a cushion to make the driver's seat comfortable. It did not provide good back support prior to using the cushion.

Transmission... shifts like: toom-toom. Diesel is 'good on gas'? Think again: you got to buy solution to add to the fuel. Dealer's cost $150 every 5,000-10,000 miles. It ruins all savings. Or a car won't start. I didn't like: cheap interior materials, old style, price is too high. Car feel like 10 y.o. already.

I'm a 30-year VW-Audi fan that this time around needed to go cheap, but without leaving VW. I also wanted a TDI to match my mostly highway commute/driving. It was easy to get a deal on the Jetta, considering how much they're piling up on the dealership lots; now I know why. This is the cheapest, dullest car I've owned since the "old GM" product I owned years ago. It's a slick powertrain wrapped in bland styling, numb driving, slow-torture seating, missing creature comforts (we don't even get rear-passenger door lock switches), all riding on Flintstone wheels. Not to mention a real low point in VW quality (e.g. carpets that are cardboard sprayed with hair-in-a-can) and quality control (e.g. embarrassingly poor body panel alignment). This is the worst VW since the Westmoreland, PA Rabbits of the 1980s. It's sad to see VW fall from near-Audi-lilke at the start of the Millennium to sub-Kia-like today. Never mind that the car's only strong suit - its engine - is now a deliberate, bald-faced lie.

My new 2015 Jetta TDI SEL is amazing. Ever since my daughter bought a 2010 Jetta TDI a couple years ago, I've wanted a TDI. The new TDI engine gets even better mpg than her 2010. I'm averaging 46mpg for the first 1500miles. Thats 700miles between fill-ups! More amazing, is the car is still spirited. I've driven a Prius hybrid, and they are ugly and boring to drive. The exterior and interior upgrades from 2014 are right on point. Very stylish and attractive. With the 2011 Jetta redesign (MK6), they signifcantly reduced the quality of the car (rear drum brakes, solid rear axle, less soft touch interior surfaces). The 2015 model has restored all theses thing, plus more. Best bang for the buck.

I have about 250 miles on the car so far, so this review is my first impressions after owning it for less than a week. My previous car was 2005 Toyota Prius which was super reliable and went well over 200k miles with zero problems. I was hoping for something that still got good fuel mileage but had more power and was more fun to drive. In these respects the Jetta has been excellent. It is super quite on the road and absorbs the bumps better then my Prius. What I miss about the Prius is the full smart key system (available on Jetta SEL). Fuel economy so far according the computer is 45mpg on the first half tank of fuel. That's about 85% highway at 65-75 mph with some spirited driving.

I recently bought a 2015 Jetta S 2.0 5 speed manual. My previous cars have been 2002 Z-28 M6, 04 GTO M6, and 06 GTOM6. I am used to performance, but I was looking for an economical car. After reading the reviews, I was expecting a slow as molasses car. I was surprised. This 4 cylinder is sprity. It revs effortless through the gears. This engine lives over 2000 RPM and it does have some acceleration power 2000-3000 RPM. I havent done any ful throttle runs though. Below 2000 RPM, the engine has no power.
