SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:MASTER CYLINDER

Tenneco Automotive (Tenneco) is recalling certain Beck/Arnley Master Cylinders, part number 072-9831, sold as aftermarket or replacement parts for 2004-2018 Volkswagen Jetta, and 2012-2019 Volkswagen Beetle vehicles. The fluid seal crimp on the master cylinder may be insufficient, causing brake fluid to leak or the cylinder to come apart.

This is not an economy car. It is a mid-level performance car, so don't think 70s Beetle, think poor man's Porsche- especially if you go for the R-Line. That is not a criticism, the car is awesome if this fits your needs. Another thing to consider is that the R-Line takes premium gas. So if fuel costs are a concern or you need a daily driver, get something else. This car is meant mainly for people who really enjoy driving and don't need it for daily things like getting to work 5 day a week. I only have it because I am an amateur hockey player and need it to get to rinks 2-3 days week. The rest of the time, it sits in front of my house looking very cool. But I still needed a car, so I figured why not get something I really want, instead of something I need for work? I take the train to work in Chicago. So the car perfect in that respect. Buy this car because you want it, not because you need it, and you'll be very happy.

Decided to test drive a 2015 Volkswagen Beetle. I didn't think i could get into it being 6ft 7, much to my surprise I fit perfectly!

The Classic is a Perfect Fit

I traded in my '12 GTI DSG for the '15 Beetle Classic. This is the fifth VW I have owned, second Beetle. It is not as sporting as the GTI, but it has plenty of pick up for everyday driving. The suspension can be a let down when things get twisty - but only when you try to get aggressive. As a boulevard cruiser and run-about, this car shines and looks great doing it. Love the 2-tone special interior (similar vibe to the Spartan plaid interiors on the GTI) and the body-color matched interior panels on the door, steering wheel and console. The Classic is the least expensive Beetle and has a few items missing from it's specs - but nothing I would miss. (Push button start and rear backup cameras are the two big things I can recall.) What you get are vintage styled wheels, unique interior, and the navigation stereo package with Bluetooth and Satellite. Once you learn the basics, it all works pretty well. I was surprised that I get pretty much the same mpg as my GTI with a smaller, less powerful engine. It is also disappointing, as the Jetta and Golf both do a few clicks better with the same engine. The new Golf is perhaps a more practical choice all-around and it wasn't easy to ignore it, but the Beetle styling and vintage vibe won me over - you only get to drive one car at a time. With just under 5k miles so far, I am very happy with the car - a few quirks and minor complaints (wind noise around the window seal, the gas cover detached from its tether, my friend almost broke the sun shade making an adjustment) don't reduce my enjoyment of the car and the compliments I have received. UPDATE: At 20k miles, I still really like this car. The light interior of the Classic Edition doesn't hold up well to the demands of hauling kids (one 12 year old managed to make it look like the inside of a chicken coop on a 12-hour road trip) as far as looking good, but the fabrics are not wearing, the style still looks great. I can get great gas mileage on long freeway trips (35 mpg at 70mph!) and the turbo has plenty of grunt to whiz me past slow trucks and distracted drivers. I have had a few minor issues (fuel cap retention clip broke and was replaced, sun shade also popped out when a passenger man-handled it). Still the quality is good overall, I like my Beetle and plan to keep it a few more years, maybe even make it to the end of the loan. (I tend to swap out cars every 2-4 years.)
