I have had this car for a little over 14 months and it has been a nightmare. In the beginning of the year, I began having intermittent transmission issues. The car shutters, hesitates and will not accelerate from a stop. I have taken this to two different Ford dealerships and "there is a normal amount of shutter for these vehicles". The dealerships keep telling me to bring it back if the problem persists. The problem is now happening everyday. I refuse to drive my car more than 10 miles away from my home. This car is very uncomfortable to drive, considering you and your passengers shake every time you accelerate; regardless if you have a heavy foot or not. This is a 2015, I should not be dealing with these types of frustrations this early into leasing this vehicle. Had I read previous reviews on this vehicle before, I would not have put a single dime into this vehicle. Within 14 months of my lease with 22 months to go, I am turning this in early and buying a NON-FORD product. I am very disappointed with this vehicle.

This car is a huge disappointment. I have owned 9 different NEW Ford vehicles and I am 43 years old. I have had problems with only 1 until now. the previous one Ford stepped up to the plate and fixed. This one they will not. The transmission issues on my wife's 2015 Ford Focus is an abomination. Even my kids who are preoccupied with their phones in the car notice how bad it is! It will shudder, vibrate and shake the whole car when accelerating from a stop and from first to second gear. It feels like it is going to fall out of the car. I have had it in for service 3 times and the first time they reprogrammed the PCM (powertrain control module). It actually got worse. The second time they said it was normal because it was a manual transmission that is shifted automatically. What? I am fairly certain that when we purchased the vehicle it was marketed as a 6-speed AUTOMATIC!!! False advertising! Ford also states that the transmission technology is to better fuel efficiency. I also do not remember signing any papers stating that ride quality and safety will be compromised for fuel efficiency. I will be pursuing the lemon law if it is not remedied soon.

Honestly, there is one reason i would never buy this car again. The transmission is horrible. We have had it in three times, and had the clutch (its an automatic), replaced once. Today i am taking it in for a 4th time. All they say is "we'll test it and if its score is X we'll look into it further. If they don't fix this, i'm going to just sell it and buy a Subaru. The other thing that is horrible is the Microsoft Sync software. My wife even has a Windows phone and its horrible to sync. It's too bad, this could have been a great car, but the transmission is just THAT BAD.

I have had this car for almost a year and I have hated every single day with it. The car looks nice and has some nice features such as heated seats, heated steering wheel, back up camera and parking sensors, but the way it drives is absolutely terrible. This car does not drive like a normal car should. It is very very hesitant when you need to get up and go. Starting off it shutters like its about to stall. At first it was ok but it gets very annoying after a while and at this point I am looking at every option to get rid of this car. It also has a cheap build quality. I have had to had my rear passenger door adjusted because it was falling of the hinges. My drivers seat always comes loose and moves around while I am driving. Mind you this car is not even a year old. I have had to replace bulbs multiple times as well. I would HIGHLY recommend staying away from buying/leasing this car. There are so many other options and better cars for the money than this terrible car.

Sadly, I didn't read the reviews before I bought this car. The transmission is horrible and I'm told that's the way it is. First and last Ford product I will buy. It's been in the shop twice already and I've only owned it for 8 months. Air condition module had to be replaced and a fuse was blown in addition to all the transmission issues. Stay away from this car!

I have a 2015 Ford Focus. After 3,000 miles the transmission issue started, I thought it needed an oil change, but after another 3,000 miles I took the car in to be looked at and was told there was no fix! All they can do is change the clutch assembly and I would probably be back every 3,000 miles to fix the issue again! After the warranty runs out I have to pay for the issue. I looked it up and the 2011-2015 Ford Focus and fiesta all have this same problem.

I have had two Hondas and one Smart Fortwo in my life. This focus is awful compared to the rest. The smart car seemed like a real downgrade from my Hondas but it shines like a gem compared to this piece of garbage. The main thing that I cannot get over is the transmission. Ford, what in god's name possessed you to release a vehicle that drives like this? Every single time you press the accelerator from a red light or stop sign the transmission kicks, jerks, and vibrates through most of first gear. It feels like the transmission is going to slip right out of gear each time and it scares me. I never know when the transmission might go. For being a "dual clutch" its awful. The Germans have been using these transmissions for a long while now and they run beautifully. Why Ford still cannot get it right baffles me. Next is the driving position. I am 6'3" so my seat is all the way back. I cant look out the window without half of my view being obstructed by the B pillar. And no the back of my seat is not tilted way back. A great looking car with great potential killed by sloppy American engineering.

I just finished mediation with BBB about a ghosting issue and Ford basically said it isn't their problem since the windshield isn't under warranty. And a defect isn't their problem. Check out my post in FocusFanatics. Under the MK3 thread. You will also read up on many issues that enthusiasts like myself have been shoveled. The only thing Ford does is has a tech go on and say that they'll escalate the issue. Which is a joke. Ford has just lost me as a new car customer. My wife had better luck with her 2014 Fiat 500L built in Bosnia. If it wasn't fr the windshield issue and the horrible exerience with Ford, I'd love this car. Oh and beware. Ford will close your case in customer service without notifying you. I had to call to find this out. I'm looking into filing a lawsuit and hoping to find more with the same issue.

Do yourself a huge favor and do not buy this car with the "automatic" transmission. It is the worst car I have EVER owned ( and I have owned more than I would care to admit) in terms of the transmission and reliability. Ford is well aware of the defective transmission and its electronic controls and still is somehow able to foist this piece of trash on the American public! The dealer is now replacing the clutch on this POS and Ford has told them that they can expect the part in 12 weeks. Nice! The transmission issues started around the 11000 mile mark and haven't been fixed yet. The car now has 14000 miles on it.

I had a 2013 Ford Fiesta and at the time was great until I got hired to deliver pizzas. The focus is a big upgrade for me. I spend most of my day in my car driving. Very roomy and the back up camera is very helpful. The front seats are very comfortable but never sat in back. Heated seats and steering wheel is a great plus. I'm glad they fixed the Microsoft thing tho. The robot lady understands everything I say, whether be to call someone or play a song. Drives very smooth. Nice and quiet ride and actually handles well in snow! 2 USB ports and an auxiliary. I love all the cup holders too. Like 5 up front maybe 4 in back haha. And I am most happy that I got it in black with black interior yay.

Before getting into my 2015 Ford Focus I owned a 2008 Ford Focus. My 2008 was unfortanlly wrecked and I loved the car so much I diddnt want anything else other then my focus back. I ended up landing in a 2015 Ford Focus. The first week I had the 2015 focus I brought it into the shop for a shakey transmission and poor acceleration. I was told nothing is wrong with my car. A year later having the same issues and a few more that includes the focus dying and stepping on the gas with the Rpms running up to 5,000 before it jerks and sputters and makes a final move. my focus currently needs a new clutch and a few sensors with only 15,000 miles. I come from a ford family and have owned fords my whole life but this will be the last "New" ford I will ever by. My 1997 Ford escort ran better then this 2015 Ford Focus. They changed the transmission in this 2015 Ford Focus and I think it's the biggest mistake ford has ever made. I hope they recall this car before they lose a lot of valuable customers. My focus will be traded in at the end of this month once I was told they needed it for 8 to 10 weeks for repairs. My advice would be look elsewhere if you want a ford don't buy it new.

I have no idea where to even begin, but so far with just 9,000 miles on this car, it needs quite a bit of work. The wipers act like rain sensing wipers, which I do not have. The heater when on level 4 acts like it has climate control, which it does not and also likes to come on when I start the car (I shut it completely off when shut off the car) and then it takes five or six tries before it will stay off. I have a belt that squeels when I start the car. The shifting of this car is a laugh as it has more noises that I can count and they told me that was normal. The way this car acts, I am afraid of what will happen when the warranty runs out. I just have the feeling that this car will not be reliable at all. The positives of the car are I like the color (performance blue), I love the heated seats and heated steering wheel. These are the only two things that actual work right. UPDATE 8/12/16 - have had the car a year, has 17,000 miles and it continues to be a problem. Transmission was fixed for about 3000 miles and now makes noise again. Electronics all messed up and dealership cannot "replicate" the problem. I am ready to take the loss and trade this piece of junk in for a Toyota Corolla.

Have owned 3, a 2007 SES, a 2010 SEL and now a 2015 Titanium. I have found all three to be what I expected. Good all around drivers with some minor issues but no major ones. My iPhone connected well and works well. Mileage is good, around town so far is 29-30 MPG and freeway looks to approach 40 MPG. While intended to be our run around town car, it is comfortable enough to travel in. Instrument cluster initially confusing but now is OK. I do not understand why you can reset the "Oil Life" but can't find a percentage left... Makes no sense to me. Vehicle is smooth on the road and quiet on the freeway. I have not noticed any clutch issues, my guess is that they have been corrected. Have had the vehicle for a bit over a month and have a quiet rattle in the rear that is not always noticeable. I may take it in but I get easily frustrated with the "No problem found" response from dealers. Overall, I would recommend this car to those considering something in this segment. Follow up... Overall, I am still happy with the vehicle. My one and only major complaint is the transmission. Specifically, the clutch. It is an automatic and has (I am told ) a double dry clutch. What ever they did in the design of this thing was / is a major muck up. Lots of judder at take off from a standing start. All other gears shift fine. This issue will not make me shy away from Ford, but it is a major nuisance. Whoever is responsible for this at Ford should be taken out to the woodshed.

So far so good...

Purchased a 2015 Focus Hatchback Titanium with 5-speed manual transmission. I've driven the car for about 2,000 miles so far and am surprised by the handling and gas mileage. I've been getting around 35 mpg on the highway which is more than the 2013 Dodge Dart Aero Turbo I traded in. After having so many problems with Dodge and the Auto DDCT I decided to cut my losses and get the Focus. The interior is great and really comfortable during my 100 mile a day commute. Ford has really changed the Focus since the last one I had driven which I believe was a 2001. The interior is somewhat comparable to the feel of my BMW 325i except way cheaper price wise. I guess some people have mentioned some issues with the automatic transmission but the 5-speed manual has been very smooth and haven't noticed any issues. Haven't tried E85 fuel yet since the price of regular gas isn't much of a difference at the moment and has better MPG. I almost went with a Focus ST but thought I would prefer the luxury feel while commuting 500 miles a week.

I got this car as I was looking for cheap reliable transportation but ended up being able to lease a 2015. Had the car for about six months and so far haven't had a bad experience. I wish the headlights threw a little farther and it tends to hesitate a little when you step on the gas but all around its performs pretty well. The gas mileage leaves little to be desired and it handles well. My major complaint is that with the material of the dashboard, the black interior looks incredibly dirty within a matter of days, but smoking in the car probably doesn't help. Overall I would recommend this car.

I have had this car about one month. It is a pleasure to drive a new car since I treat myself only about every ten years. The fuel economy and acceleration are great. Reliability is still to be determined but the radio quit after two days, was confirmed as non-operational by the dealer, then resumed working without any repairs being made. I suspect I will have future problems with it. The ride is rather stiff, probably because the recommended tire pressure is 37 psi. The automatic transmission is built to emulate a manual transmission so shifting is very noticeable and not always at the optimum transition points. The transmission has an L position on the shifter, rather than an S, and there is no documentation in the owners manual concerning this. Ford Customer Service (Detroit) was able to give me a good understanding of how it operates but it is surprising that they could not provide me with anything in writing. A rear view camera is standard which is a nice touch.

SYNC is a disaster, did not work with my Android phone. Slow, quirky experience with iPhone. NVH on highway felt pronounced, but not necessarily worse than other cars in this class. As compared to a low spec Toyota Corolla, this car's non-driving interface (ventilation, radio, and car information) is clunky, awkward, and slow. Otherwise the two cars are similar.

After owning the Audi for less than 2 years, I decided that I didn't want to own it when the warranty ran out. I tested Toyotas, Mazda, and Kia. I was more impressed with the Focus than any of these, but still a bit hesitant to go from an Audi to a Ford. Well, I couldn't be happier. While it doesn't have all the pep of the turbo on the A5, it handles just as well, is actually quieter riding, and has better navigation. Added benefits are regular gas, better mileage, and a lower car payment!

I have owned a 2015 Focus Titanium sedan for about 2 months now and have about 5000 miles on it. I bought it new and it has been great. I average 38 mpg with mostly highway and country driving. This car is quiet and comfortable for a small car. The transmission works like it should with precise shifts and smooth operation. Every control and feature of the car has been engineered and thought through on a high level. I only wish there was the home link feature on the visor to program a garage door opener. I am a happy camper with this car. update: Car has almost 27000 miles. No problems. Averaging 38 mpg. I do a lot of highway driving. Only wish is to have the homelink buttons in the visor for the garage door opener.

Love this car. Primary goal was to get a vehicle that got great mileage. Wasn't aware that Focus got this kind of superb mileage until I started researching. LOVE this car. Backup camera, Bluetooth, SYNC hands-free and a really nice sounding radio. The radio gets outstanding long distance reception that surpasses any radio in the past thirty years. I'm a very large man and I fit into this car very easily. Drive an hour each way to work and am not cramped up and tired afterwards like I was in a Nissan Altima. Trunk has more usable space than my Lincoln MKS. Very happy I found the 2015 Focus. Still loving this choice after driving over 29,000 miles. Nothing to complain about with the Focus at all so far.

This is our third Focus. First was a 2005 which was very economical to drive. Bought a 2014 SE automatic last year and liked it but there were a couple of options I wished I'd gotten with it. A couple of things I didn't like about the '14 were no 12V plug on the dash and no lock buttons on the doors. Traded it in for the 2015 SE this year and glad I did. Everything I didn't like on the 2014 was corrected on the 2015, 12V plug on the dash, lock buttons on the doors, etc. I had no problems with the shifting on the 2014. Not as smooth as a full size car but it it shifted fine for the 12,000 miles I had on it. You have to realize even though it's an automatic you feel it shift like a standard. If you don't like power shifting get a Fusion. The 2015 does seem to shift smoother than the 2014 and has the manual shift paddles which I tried and they work but for me the Focus shift points are fine in automatic so I wont use the paddles much if ever. I got the 2.0L engine for the power with larger wheels and get a steady 34 mpg around town. Longer trips on the highway I get a little better (mid to high 30s) but don't hold back on the speed. This car handles great. I drove others in this class Toyota/Honda/VW and this one is the most fun to drive. Electronics work fine and blue tooth and USB work as they should. Sync voice commands are still a challenge if you don't speak clearly. I like having both the analog and digital gauges on the 2015 (the 2014 only had an analog spedo). The heat/AC controls are great on the 2015 as there is a individual on/off button for everything including each vent/defrost. No more trying to figure out which position on a dial to use to heat your feet and the windshield at the same time. All in all the 2015 hatch is fun to drive, handles and looks great, and has enough room for our two large dogs in the back.

not reliable!!!

I brought this car for work. I'm a uber driver so I put a lot of miles on it in a short time. After driving it for a while it jerk a little and the dealership said that the way the car works. But after a few months pass the engine light came on and the car wouldn't pass 40pmh. I couldn't get on the high or work. I been to the shop 3 times and each time I get it back the same problem come back up. It only has about 28,000 miles on it. Don't buy this car, I also heard fiesta has the same problems.. It allow on the dual clutch system they have in the transmission.

I mean, it'll get you halfway there at least

Despite it getting great gas mileage and the interior being very spacious for the size of the car, the car is far from a glorious car. No matter how you drive the car, the engine will give out easily. The engine or transmission is bound to blow. The interior is spacious, but it is also very, very, very cheap feeling. Everything in aide is made of cheap low grade plastic and does not have a very pleasant feel. The steering wheel is the only part of the interior that feels like any effort went into finding a proper material for it.

My first new car!

My parents bought me this car for my 18th birthday early 2015. As soon as I saw the car at the dealership, I knew it would be perfect. As a newer driver, I wanted to be driving a car that was not only easy to drive and gets good gas mileage, but is safe and comfortable as well. The Ford Focus Hatchback SE meets all those expectations. Originally we planned on getting a 2014 Ford Focus, but the 2015 was only about $1k more so we decided to get the newest model. The car itself is very sporty, with black and silver rims as well as paddle shifters on the steering wheel (for those who would like to drive the car in the optional sport/manual mode). The cloth interior is very durable and comfortable. The radio, bluetooth, and climate control are also user friendly for those who may not be used to having more technology in their car. Driving the hatchback is smooth, and especially quiet on the freeway or on bumpier roads. The one thing I found surprising in this car is the sensitivity of the accelerator; you do not have to press down hard on it for the car to accelerate quickly. The only downside to the car is the leg room for the back seats. However, it won't matter as much if you are driving with one or two other people. There is a ton of trunk space, which can even fit a couple sets of golf clubs/bags. This car is great, and perfect for newer drivers and students.

Terrible car transmission is horrible

This car should be removed from the market until the transmission is completely reworked and a recall done on all those that have been sold. I have had mine about a week and I think the transmission is complete crap. It slips, shudders, jitters, and surges when starting out from a stop.

This is my 3rd Focus. I decided to buy "new" this time, having bought used before and the cars were great. This one is great also in most ways. However, I do NOT like the transmission. The hesitation felt on acceleration is a big issue for me. Both of my previous Focus vehicles had quick acceleration. This one will too...but if you push past the "hesitation" then it REVS up to 3500 rpm and goes back down again, which I also do not like. When I bought this car I thought with it being new and the fact that I don't drive much that this might be my "last" car, now it will depend on how much I can tolerate that hesitation issue. No option to choose 4 cyl auto transmission which I have. UPDATE 5/2016: After contacting the dealer where I bought the car, and Ford itself and both telling me that the transmission has a "unique" response I thought I was stuck with it. It started getting worse and in March I went to a different Ford dealer. After testing, the clutch in my transmission "failed". The part was on national "back order" for 8-10 weeks. It was repaired last week and running really well now. My gas mileage has increased dramatically. For anyone with transmission issues on your Focus and not getting resolution from Ford, there is a law firm that is putting together a class action suit against Ford, you can contact them at www.attorneyzim.com. One other thing: I'm having an ongoing issue with a fuel odor that is very strong at times, it is intermittent, I can't make it happen and I can't get the dealer to take the situation seriously. My next "Ford" battle! Update November 2016: I don't drive a lot so after owning this car 1 1/2 years I have only 13,000 miles on it. The transmission issue is okay, my mileage dropped quite a bit for a while. Now I can get better pick up but I have to push it a little harder also and tolerate the revving up of the engine to do so, it sounds like a sports car when doing so. Not a sound I enjoy, I like relatively quiet cars. Regarding the fuel odor mentioned previously, it continues...been to two different places both of which tell me there is nothing they can do unless it's happening while the car is at their shop. The overall testing of the car says it's okay. But the intermittent odor continues, although now the smell isn't just a gasoline odor, it smells more like grease and gasoline...I have to turn my a/c up to max to shut off the outside air and therefore, also the odor. I've written to Ford about it and they offer solution.

Just read the elderly gentlemans review from march and felt compelled to respond. I'm one week in owning a 2015 Focus SE Hatch. This is my second Focus. Had a 2012 that I traded in on the current one. Here's what was explained to me about the transmission by service and sales;it's actually a manual transmission that has 2 clutches. The chattering sensation is the clutches engaging against the flywheel and is normal. If you've ever driven a manual pedal clutch car not all but most make a similar chatter. Now when I say chatter this is very subtle and I test drove two 2015's and they both did it. My 2012 also did it and had 76,000 on trade with no tranny problems.

DO NOT BUY

I have had nothing but trouble with my 2015 Ford Focus. The transmission is so jerky, that you can not drink coffee without it landing in your lap. If stopped behind another car and you go to take off, it hesitates and then lunges forward. Had it in the shop five times, written Ford, and all say the same, "it is within Ford's acceptable allowance". I guess it is okay to make a lousy transmission, as long as you also make lousy allowances. Ford does not care about customer satisfaction. I have been buying Fords for 45 yeas, but this will be my last.
