I love this car. There is a lot of technology built into this and I feel comfortable with all the safety features. I have the 19" wheels and all the options offered. The turbo engine pulls hard, even at highway speeds. My wife and I take this LTZ on trips, transported our 65in flat screen perfectly, hauled groceries, kept teenagers happy with the wifi, and yet the neighbors think it looks like a BMW.

I love my Maibu but disappointed.

I've had my Malibu for a little over a year and I loved it from the moment the salesman pulled it up for me to test drive it. Brand new with on 3 miles. I've been on a couple road trips and loved the smooth ride and comfort. The my link and XM radios are among my favorite features. I have always disliked the start stop function and wished it was a way to disable it. Doesn't seem to save much gas and I hate the feeling that my car has stalled. A few days ago when I'd come to a stop and the feature engaged as normal, I let my foot off the brake and my radio cut off for a few seconds, then came back on. I thought nothing of it at first until it did it a second time but this time the check engine light came on and now I'm alarmed. I take it into the dealership to find out the auxiliary battery that powers the features in the car while the engine is shut off is drained and needed to be replaced. I've only had my car for exactly 13 month and this battery needs to be replaced? Luckily it's under warranty but what happens when the warranty is up? Will I have to replace this battery every year? Will it cause electrical problems? I also fear that the starter will not last because of the constant starting. As much as I love this car this lack of reliability has disappointed me and makes me worry how this car will hold up after its a few years old. I know a battery is nothing and hopefully nothing else happens that is not covered under warranty.

Well I have had this car for two months and I am very happy with it, the 2.5L engine makes good power 196hp and the fuel mileage is very good I actually get the advertised mileage ,the car is very comfortable and all the controls are laid out nice and are very easy to understand and operate it handles great and it is a joy to drive. the only thing I would change is the engine auto start stop feature it works well but I rather not have it and there should be a on-off switch for those of us who would rather have it off but I took care of that and it does not auto start stop unless I want it to. So at this point the car drives and operates just the way I like and I am very happy with it and I would recommend it to anyone who needs a nice mid sized car

I had a 2015 Malibu as a rental for a week. I drove approximately 300 miles during the week I had it. The positives are that the interior is relatively quiet and comfortable considering the price point of this car. There is sufficient power there, but it is difficult to access/control because of the drive by wire throttle (more on that later). The brakes are capable and the car holds the road well on twisty/hilly terrain. It feels confident and easy to control at highway speeds. Gas mileage was OK. The computer informed me that my average was 26.1mpg over the course of my time with the car. Mostly city/suburban and a little highway driving. The most glaring issue I noticed immediately is how hard it is to see out of this car, both front and back. All new cars I've driven seem to be this way, however. The large A-pillars make it hard to see around a corner and the large C-pillars make it hard to see what is behind you when backing out of a parking space. The windshield mounted rear view mirror may as well not even be there. It is useless unless what you are trying to see is precisely behind the car. Anything to either side is obscured by the C-pillars, which creates huge blind spots. The materials on the interior can be described as "cheap" to be kind. The plastics are hard and the texture is not pleasant to touch. My rental had the worst feeling steering wheel of any car I have ever driven. It felt like petting a crocodile. I understand that this is an entry level economy car and don't expect anything to be wrapped in leather or trimmed with wood, but I've driven econo-boxes from the late 90's with better interior finish than this car. The worst problem I have saved for last. It is the horrendous throttle feel given by the drive-by-wire system. This is somewhat hard to explain, but it feels like the accelerator pedal is more of a suggestion to the engine rather than a direct translation of what my right foot is doing. The worst is when backing out of a parking space while going uphill. I would push the pedal, nothing happens, push some more, nothing happens...until I have it nearly to the floor and the car suddenly lurches out of the parking space. Instead of an even, predictable gradient of power, its either all or nothing. It is almost as if there is a 1 to 2 second delay between pedal input and engine response. It is most noticeable in city driving in situations when you need a little bit of power instantly, like when making a left hand turn into oncoming traffic. I was nearly involved in an accident due to the delay. It's only about a second or two, but when someone is driving toward you at 40mph, one second makes a lot of difference. This did not inspire confidence and I dreaded any time I had to take this car near a city. Once on the highway, the throttle problem is not so bad, but it is still hard to figure out how much to depress the pedal in order to achieve the desired results. I found myself over accelerating, or accidentally cutting someone off because of the vague feel to the accelerator. At its best the throttle is vague, annoying and unpredictable. At its worst, it is downright dangerous. This car was tolerable as a rental, but I would never buy one. By the end of the week I couldn't wait to get back into my old car.

This car is one of the most solid cars I have driven. I rent several and buy new every 3-4 years. Crossing RR tracks and not a sound, rattle, or noise. The 2.5 stop start engine is great. Plenty of pep and gas mileage is great. We use this car mainly in the city and suburban driving. Other cars of the same size and engine I would average 22 MPG. This with the stop start at many stop and go lights we run into, is getting and average of 26-27. Highway drives are in the upper 30's. I like the stop/start. Our neighbor travels to Europe and almost all the cars have it there. He road with me and said the one is better the BMW or Mercedes he has driven. He said you don't even feel it. The tan leather interior we ordered gets everyone attention. Said it looks like a luxury car, better then a friends BMW. Only terrible thing we had to have fixed is the awful front seats with a big lumbar bulge. Some people would not mind this or even like it, but my wife and I both have bad backs and need perfectly flat back rest. My feet when numb. Had to take to a trim shop and have the bulge taken out. My 09 Malibu was great. perfectly flat back rest and if you wanted a bulge it had a power lumbar, but it would adjust to completely flat as it should.

Since its just the two of us interior is ok. Dash easy to read, front end hard to tell where that's why you notice other cars crunched. Mirrors are limited have to double check. Road noise is like driving with windows down you can hear everything like the Kia Rio they loaned us. The turbulence of mirrors is annoying and in a head wind drowns out radio. GM has known about this since 2014 did not fix till now on all 2016 models. With 7800 miles already have loss in power does not roll over hills as easy. Dealer say everything normal we only notice since we`ve driven from start. I`m glad they got rid in eco system nothing like sitting in 110 degrees and it shuts off takes more power to cool down.

This was my first car right out of college. AND I LOVE THIS CAR. I had driven a 2004 malibu classic with a 2.2 engine for the past 6 years and got to say the 2.5 engine was a pretty good upgrade in performance. I would admit the start-stop tech took a while to get used to, but with the upgrades to the starter and engine gaskets you will be safe from the constant on and off feature. I use this car everyday for work and look to keep it for some time.

I've had the car for a year now. I've never owned a car that had an MSRP of over 25k, so I only have so much to compare it to. Overall I have greatly enjoyed owning this car. For the bad: In that time, I have had it in the dealership for issues three times. The first was the airbag module gave up the ghost (it just popped the warning light, nothing bad occurred). Second time was for an OnStar module recall. Third time was for the hands-free calling not working. Turned out the hands-free calling not working was because they put in the wrong OnStar module during the recall appointment. All of the work of course was done for free as it was under warranty. Each time they arranged a loaner car that was in impeccable condition. Each time the dealership was friendly and polite. For the good: I have found this car to be quite comfortable. It is by no means a luxary sedan, but six hour drives in it didn't overly fatigue me or expose uncomfortable parts of the seats. It handles quite competently under all the weather conditions I've had it in (hot, cold, rain, and wintery mix) and has always made me feel safe. It has plenty of power to get up to highway speed by the end of the on ramps. I was originally skeptical of the electric power steering but have come to enjoy how precise it seems to be. I personally like the stop-start tech, and it does seem to legitimately boost MGP. Of course, it remains to be seen what the extra starts does in terms of engine wear. I like the styling in general, and I like the accent lighting and size of the buttons on the various dash controls (for when wearing gloves). I especially like that it has power seat high adjustment on the base model. Annoyances: in the base model, bluetooth does phone calls but doesn't support music streaming from your phone. This seems to be purely a software roadblock put in place to try to sell the higher trim levels. The times the start-stop does NOT kick in seem to be a bit random sometimes. I know it is based on battery levels and accessories in use and whatnot, but I see no reason why after driving 20+ minutes highway time in mild weather, with minimal accessory and HVAC use, why it would not stop the engine when you pull up to a stoplight at the bottom off your off-ramp, when you are not doing stop-and-go traffic. Also, while the transmission is largely competent, it does not seem as smooth or as intelligent as comparable Mazda models that my friends have.

GM needs some help.

After 3000 miles what a poor constructed vehicle ride and road noise is poor. Come on GM is this really the best you can do on this vehicle ? Also get rid of that auto stop makes the vehicle feel like I am driving a cheep golf cart. Fuel mileage is poor I do better in my full size Dodge Challenger with a V-6 engine .

It's easy to hook up all of you wife and blue tooth, making hands free a standard thing. Great on gas, love the interior, Had other Malibu's in the past that lasted and lasted. I mean like 190,000 and still humming along! Dependable, safe and beats everyone on price except the inferior brands. Would let my kids travel in it or recommend to someone's mom. I love this car~!!! Update on 5-30-2016. After six months driving it, I love it even more. My mileage is averaging between 28-.5-29.6 MGP. I drive about 36 miles per day round trip to work and with SeriousXM, it seems like a ten minute drive and I have to sit in the car to finish listening to something every day!

Recently had to have a rental while my 07 Camry V6 XLE was in for collision repairs. Let me say right away I never was fully satisfied with my Camry's ride. It's far too taught and the ride reminded me of a go-kart. The Camry is fast and nimble, but hard to endure on long road trips. As soon as I sat into the Malibu's driver seat, I was instantly comfortable. Of course, it's a 2015 and its not a sport edition, so it may be disingenuous to compare the ride comfort of the Camry vs the Malibu, but even the later 90's Camry had a better ride than the 2007 Camry. One thing my V6 Camry is good at however is acceleration. It's a loud V6 at idle, but it moves swiftly. The base engine Malibu on the other hand is too slow on acceleration, and when it does respond, it is anemic and I almost feel like I may be injuring the thing when I step on the gas. But the ride is awesome. Comfortable without feeling too plush, and not claustrophobic like some other newer model cars. Visibility is not great, but no worse than the Camry's. What ever happened to large side and rear mirrors of yesteryear? The materials are much better than my Camry or any Chevy I had been in recently. Overall, if it holds reliable, this would be a solid choice if the base engine was quicker. If you can afford a step-up in engine level (turbo or a v6), it may just be perfect.

I rent very often due to work. I think this is the first time in long time that they gave me a Malibu. Most of the time I would ask for something else. It has been a disappointment. Like someone else stated, the driver's seat is one of the most uncomfortable car that I can think of. You are sitting so low that you cannot see over the dashboard. If you raise the seat, your right leg has to press down on the seat to reach the pedals. I guess this car is designed for long legs. Anyway my biggest complaint is the steering. I strongly suspect this is because it is a rental and has been abused but the steering give a step change whenever I turn it slightly right. This is extremely dangerous but I was too lazy to switch it out.

I bought my Malibu LT about 2 months ago and I love driving it ! It has great acceleration, and engine noise is minimal, handles great and feels very secure when driving. Other things I like : huge trunk space, awesome mileage - 33 mpg overall, Chevy dealers everywhere if needed-even rural areas, ambient blue lighting at night, remote start for Wisconsin winters, back up camera for parking and safety, road hugging , interior/exterior fit and finish, styling, concealed tail pipe, value for the money, buying experience at my local Chevy dealer- no hassle or games. Things I don't like so much: no spare tire, complicated My Link ( I hate reading a manual ) , FM reception, that's about it 😀 Overall, I would say this car should be driven and checked out if you are looking for a good looking car that performs well, can be serviced almost anywhere, and is a great value for the money.

First I'd like to say that the negative reviews seem to be from people who've rented the car (and know nothing about it), bought it used, or are weirded out by the Eco 4cyl engine. I bought my 2015 Malibu LS new after trading in my 2006 Malibu LT. I love the start/stop engine which cuts the engine off after you brake for extended periods of time, then cuts back on after you let off the brake. quite a few cars have this set up, you hardly notice it and it saves a good deal of MPG's. Especially if you're in traffic!! As a bonus you still take off just as fast if not faster than you would had the engine still been running. The trunk can be opened via key fob or a small button on the middle tail light when doors are unlocked. It's a huge step up, just the amount of space I'm used to in front and back-it's a bit more snug in back, but the trunk is a bit bigger now. if you're a fan of Chevy, want a midsize sedan with a some "getup and go", a bit of style, and want good MPG's this is the car for you. If legroom in back is an issue, grab an impala.

dont buy!! a waste of road space

Have had a 2015 Malibu LS for about a month. Great gas mileage, decent power (but it is no dragster), reasonable handling but lacks road feel. Cons: poor rear visibility, no spare tire, a bunch of electronics piled on top of the battery making it difficult to check water level (something you do in a very hot climate like mine) and lots of road noise. Transmission seems to occasionally hunt gears at mid throttle going about 40-50 mph. I hated auto stop on my 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid and dislike it on this car - maybe I'm just 'old school'. I personally prefer my older 2009 Malibu with 90K miles on it. I would characterize this car as a typical American 5 passenger car from which they have engineered out every possible cost and I am only marginally satisfied with this car.

We bought the Chevy Malibu LS ECO 2015 from Thurston Auto in Ukiah, Ca NEW and on our way home in the mountains we go 38+ mpg. and in town we get about 25mpg my Chevy Tahoe only got 12mpg in town and around 17=+ on the open road. Don't buy it with the start/stop system, I didn't do my homework and I wish I had, but unfortunately I knew nothing about this start/stop crap. When you test drive it, I didn't know, but the extra battery takes a while to warm up and charge then the fun starts. it has a constant miss going down the highway like something tugging on the engine and in regular traffic the transmission is clunky. My Nissan Altima got better gas mileage, had a smooth ride and it didn't have a start/stop system. The salesman told me nothing about this awful system, they know it's crap. So test drive it for a while and I bet you won't buy it!

Some things my original review omitted - yes, it is a rental, but it had 26 miles on it when I got it. BRAND SPANKING NEW. So my observations are not of a beaten up high mileage rental car. Added remarks - and these are personal observations and may not bother other people - the high back end and no back up camera make parking unnecessarily difficult - parallel or backing into a space. Shockingly, I discovered this weekend that a bag of golf clubs will not fit in the trunk sideways - only diagonally! Even my Honda S 2000 could hold a couple of bags of golf clubs sideways in the trunk. Having to put them in diagonally causes problems packing other items in the trunk. WHERE IS THE INTERIOR TRUNK RELEASE????!!!!!! I have looked everywhere - and the remote on the key fob will NOT work when the car is running. Why do manufacturers put the gas filler cap on the Passenger side??? And then it is not intuitive - nothing to grab onto , no release in the car - you have to press it to get it to open. All in all, the car is replete with annoyances - not surprising to somrone who has owned nothing but the best ergonomically designed cars in the world - Hondas and Acuras.

I have owned many cars including Mercedes Benz, Jaguar, Cadillac Buick and other premium brands. This car impresses me for its value. It is solidly built with quality materials. It rides well, it handles well, it accelerates well, it is comfortable on long drives and it gets incredible fuel economy for its size and weight. The only complaints I have are the limited room in the rear passenger area and the blind spots in the rear. I recently drove the car from California to Alabama. My average speed was 80 mph. My average fuel economy was better than 36 mpg. Maintenance costs are fantastic. Regular maintenance on this car is about $40 per visit compared to over $400 per visit for my wife's Mercedes C Class. I won't even go into the maintenance costs I experienced as a Jaguar owner. Overall, this car compares quite favorably to similar offerings by Japan or Europe. I drive this car a lot having put over 40,000 miles on it in one year. All of that mileage and no significant problems at all. This is not a sports car and it wasn't designed as one. So, everyone complaining about handling and acceleration are comparing apples to oranges. It drives quite well and is very much like any other similar car like the Honda Accord or Nissan Altima. In my opinion, the car is a bit overpriced. However, I made up for that with GMs military discount which brought the price into reasonable territory. Further, I doubt that the car will hold its resale value the way Honda or Nissan does simply because it is a domestic offering. All in all, this car does what GM says it can do. It is a great value and a great car.

Due to the character number restriction, I had to erase my original review of this automobile and provide an update after leasing this car for over a year.... I still love it! I have NEVER been more impressed by the quality of an American automobile than I have with this 2015 Malibu LTZ2. For years, we leased Nissan products and then decided to give Mercury a try with the 2008 Mariner Hybrid. It was a huge mistake. After reading the reviews on the Chevy Malibu and seeing the overall awards that Chevrolet has been given over the past few years, we decided to give American one more try. As I said, we have had this car for well over a year now, and it has given us ZERO problems and still maintains the same level of power, quiet ride, and comfort as the day we picked it up from the dealership. The controls and displays are well thought out and easily accessed. The ride is not only comfortable even on rough roads, but it is the quietest vehicle that I have ever driven! When at a stop light, I hardly notice the engine is running. Road noise is at a minimum making for a very quiet and comfortable ride. GM was very smart to develop the "On Star" system which has proven valuable many times. We get a monthly report of diagnostics and reminders for service by email. I like the fact that if the car seems to be having a problem, I can call OnStar while driving and have them run a full diagnostic. If there was a problem, I could be given directions and phone number to the nearest dealership if it were an emergency. We rarely drive the car other than stop and go city driving, so I had to estimate the combined driving MPG. With ONLY city driving in the south Florida heat, we average 17-19 MPG. My only suggestion to GM would be to give a little more room for back seat passengers and less trunk space. The trunk is huge which is nice if you are shopping and have lots of packages to cart home. But, you are sacrificing leg room for the rear seat passengers. Though it is OK as far as comfort, it would be nice to have a little more room. Overall, we are impressed by the quality, reliability and excellence in design for the Chevy Malibu. I would highly recommend that anyone considering a mid-size sedan to give this vehicle a test drive. I'm sure that you will be impressed as well.

Reviewing this from the perspective of an Acura RL owner may be a bit unfair, but... the dash vents are barely adjustable, there are no visible rear vents, the engine (like just about any other American 4 cylinder I have ever driven) sounds like a lawn mower on acceleration though it IS economical - 32 MPG on highway at 75-80 - it rides like a truck - it is firm but you feel every bump - very poor insulation from road surfaces and imperfections - the "switch blade" key fob is annoying - if you don't keep folding it up it puts holes in pants pockets, and the access to the vehicle information system is accomplished through three switches on the left stalk on the steering column - requires too much concentration and much better placed on the dash somewhere - huge screen on the dash does nothing without navigation other than give you radio information. Very disappointing car after all the rave reviews I had read about the "new" Malibu - cannot even hold a candle to our previous 2008 Honda Accord, let lone the 2015 model.

This car was a huge upgrade from my 99 Pontiac. I love how quiet it is and it handles really well. The technology is great and I haven't had any problems with connecting to local radio stations or XM stations. The car can only connect via bluetooth to one phone at a time, which can be inconvenient. The back up camera is nice because it's kind of hard to look out the back window. The seats are really nice - the driver's seat has lumbar support so long trips don't make my lower back sore. My favorite part about the car is the auto stop/start engine - it's fun to come up to a red light and see if the car will auto stop!

Good basic sedan, but not a top choice...

16000 miles on my 2015 Malibu LS company car so far. GM has made many improvements over the years. My 2009 Malibu was not a reliable car. For a good, basic family sedan, the 2015 Malibu is a decent choice. It's fairly comfortable. Acceleration is good. Gas mileage running about 29mpg avg so far. Exterior looks great and the new standard aluminum wheels are nice. Paint is nice as well. Much improved over older GM quality. Modest handling. FM reception terrible. Rear view is awful. Many blind spots. This is all great unless you just happen to test drive a Honda Accord, Mazda 6, Passat, or Nissan Altima (among others). I would recommend any of those over this car if it was my own money on the line. (This is a fleet car for me)
