On my 2015 I only had 36,500 miles on my car and have had major problems with it. First I started hearing a noise from the engine dealer couldnt find the noise. I checked the oil and the car had no oil in it.I took it in and they redid the oil. A week later I was driving on the freeway and I lost speed. I could not go over 10 miles. I bearly made it home. Ive always had problem with this SUV with pick up speeds.It would never pick up speed on the freeway. And gas milage with eco boost does nothing for the car.Now my car sets at the dealer with transmission problems. Would I get another GM car this was my first . I cant say I would.

The 4-cyl. aren't very fast at all and don't accelerate that fast either. That could possibly be from it being on ECO mode but, I would recommend getting a V6 for some extra get up. It's roomy and comfortable. Great handling and entertainment features.

Have not owned a GM product for 20 years after being a die hard customer =switched to other brands due to poor quality. I purchased a used(15000mile) vehicle with AWD,Heated seats.rear with 2.4L engine. Car handles well and has a good ride but the fuel economy is well below stated range even with the eco. feature. GM ought to consider a super charged model for better mileage and acceleration.

I drove a rental for two weeks with only 33k miles on it while insurance is fixing cosmetic damage on my 2008 Toyota Scion XB RS 5. So this review is based on the differences along with other modern vehicles I have driven. The good. We like the stereo with XM, bluetooth, and touchscreen. Great backup camera and grid display. Works great, for us at least. I have seen others had many problems with this. I was also glad to feel that it has electric steering like our XB. The vehicle also looks really nice. And it is better than some other rentals we have had in the past. The bad. The Equinox has a 2.4L engine as does my XB. The Equinox steers very poorly, especially with sharp turns. I have to back up twice to turn around and pull out of my driveway. When turning right out of the driveway, it has to go halfway into the opposite lane. XB can do a sharp turn, no problem. The acceleration is moody. Most of the time even with ECO off, it takes forever to get up to speed in comparison. However out of the blue, it will burn rubber for no reason with the traction control on, indicating the system is not working. It frequently hesitates during acceleration, causing a sore neck from the shock of it. When testing the acceleration when passing a car doing 35 in a 55 lane, even after flooring it took it a while to speed up. The computer's passing mode is virtually non-existent. Gas mileage is very poor with ECO on. It averages 17-23 MPG when it is being pampered. My XB gets 24-28 city driving, even if driving it hard. Seats are very uncomfortable in comparison. We have tried adjusting them, but even a short trip leaves your back stiff. I have driven across country twice in my XB, back never got sore. The automatic lights would worry me if I owned it. They sometimes turn off after a minute or so. Other times they stay on for several. Online reviews said that many people have had their batteries drained from them staying on overnight and there was nothing they could do. Random odors come out of the vents. It varies from new car, rotten egg, and twice it smelled like cat feces. I am not making this up, HONESTLY it does this. Do not know what is causing this. The rotten egg smell is likely a common problem from mildew buildup in the system. But the cat one is really strange. I have had my daughter and friends love the look and felt excited about riding in it. Even one friend who love Chevrolet. But after being in it, they all said it sucks. Not making this up. It looks better than it is. When reviewing the vehicle online, it has many complaints for barely being a year old and one safety TSB. It is plagued with electrical problems ranging from the stereo system, the automatic lights, and electric steering system failing. The airbags were just recalled as well. They have a tendency to rupture and sending metal fragments, which is an extreme hazard. Make sure yours were replaced if you end up with one. Overall, I gave it two stars because I have been in worse rentals. I am happy for those who like it. I assume they must have been in many worse vehicles. But I have driven several other similar vehicles, and this is the worst one in this class. And the second worst modern vehicle I have ever driven. GM needs to step up their quality control. I would be embarrassed to market a vehicle that clearly has several design problems ranging from comfort, safety and reliability.

Our family was downsizing due to kids getting older and getting their own vehicles, so we decided to replace our mini van that we owned for 11 years!! Obviously, the technology has changed and this upgrade was a huge improvement from what we had. We bought the Equinox brand new because we like the warranty and free 2 year scheduled maintenance that Chevy was offering (we're coming off a lot of repairs on the mini van, so this was nice). They gave us 2K for the van, and another 6K in rebates, so we financed right at 20K, great deal in my opinion. We love this vehicle!! It's very comfortable and easy to drive. The only thing that I would complain about would be the downshifting when coming to a stop. It downshifts a little harder than what I'm used to, but surprisingly, it shifts great and smooth when taking off from a stop. It does have this "Eco" option, but haven't really noticed a difference. Again, this vehicle was a huge improvement over what we had, so we really like it. If you're into buying newer vehicles all the time and expect the best in everything, then I'm sure you might find some flaws with this vehicle, but we love it!

The vehicle I had was a rental, but my complaint has absolutely nothing to do with issues that could be blamed on careless use by other rentee's. The vehicles entertainment center is easily the most frustrating technology I have ever encountered. Plug in your phone to the USB, and the vehicles entertainment center will inform you "it appears you don't have network service." Cool, I'm not using network just want to play music. So I press okay. "No music found on iPod." Hmmmm, I have about 5gb of music on my iPod. I also have about 15gbs downloaded through apps such as Rhapsody and Spotify, all accessible offline. "No music found on this device." I click okay. Pandora automatically starts playing a random selection of one of my stations. That's odd, I thought I didn't have network connection? I press source to get back to iPod. It now shows, on the cars screen, a list of all the artist on my iPod and an image of one of their album covers. "No music found on iPod." What? You just showed my music? Okay. Unplug the USB and attempt this whole process repeatedly for about 15 minutes. I finally gave up, cursed at the car for a few minutes, realized why the American car industry is failing, and decided to listen to static filled radio. If your selling point for a vehicle is to be able to easily pair your smartphone with your vehicle, this is not the car for you.

I test drove this car because it was so inexpensive. We have a older saturn VUE (2009) with lots of miles, so its time to get something newer. My saturn not only was a lot better looking ( no "B" pillar) but it handled better and had a smoother ride. GM get your stuff together! This is the only SUV left on the market with this nineties design. I don't care how inexpensive you make them, spend some time and thought on a redesign.

I purchased the Equinox because of the claimed EPA Hwy mileage of 32 mpg. As a driver, I have always achieved and even bettered the hwy mileage estimates of other vehicles I have owned. With the Equinox, instead of 32 mpg on long road trips, I am regularly getting 26 mpg. It doesn't make any difference if I use Cruise or not. That is almost a 20% discrepancy from the claim. Additionally, my transmission has begun to slip when taking off from a stop. Had it to the dealer but it is intermittent and they were unable to determine the cause. Buyer Beware!

Leased a 4 cylinder as was not sure I would like it and the lease cost was excellent for 12,000 miles per year. Overall the vehicle is smooth, stops as predicted, and very quiet. I did not think I would like the center console with all the buttons but found just the opposite, as all the buttons are easy to understand and reach. Using a touch screen in a car can be difficult and dangerous as it takes your eyes off the road to long. Hence I use the buttons and really like the back button to return to the previous screen, just like a computer. The seats are comfortable on long trips and the vehicle rides nice. It is a SUV so the handling is just normal. Engine does not have a lot of pick up but the trade off is very good gas mileage. The chevy My Link is excellent and even read my text messages. Trunk area is not large but put down the seats and it has plenty of room to move furniture..... I would like to see a turbo in this vehicle as it would improve performance. Not sure Chevy will do this as it is their base brand. If they did I would consider buying one, not lease. I did drive a 6 cylinder GMC version and it was horrible. The one thing I don't like is the exterior styling. It is pleasant but very boxy. I will probably lease this again if the lease is a great price. Not sure the long term trade in or sale value is good enough to buy it.

Cheap, slow, uncomfortable. I bought this against my better judgement. Never been a Chevy guy but the deal was great. After the first drive home on the highway I was miserable. Bought it in July yesterday went back to Hyundai and traded it in. I will never stray from Hyundai again

You Should have a V6 AWD

There was no option to select the V6 for review. It seems there is a big performance differences between 4 cylinder and the AWD V6. First off is the power, Shocking! Plant your foot and go to warp. Passing is a pleasure, not "I think I can, I think I can". With the V6 and AWD combination you get an upgraded suspension that gives you precise handling and very little body roll without being too stiff. Stuff not easy to find in the specs. The major complaint is the transmission. It' not always as intuitive as it could be and for god's sake DO NOT use the manual shift buttons. They lag in command and once badly downshifted so let the computer do it. The so-called premium sound system is only fair. Would I buy it again? Yes, can't beat the bang for the buck.

Although I am no expert, I have owned several different cars, so I can speak from experience if you will.. The Equinox is a smooth ride, safe, sturdy, and sexy in my opinion :-) I had a Mazda cx5 temporarily, and if felt like I was in a tin can compared to the Equinox, and it was the same price, if not more...I have gone over most of the reviews, and it sounds like most of the negative comments are from people that are never satisfied, its pretty obvious..My parents are on their second Equinox, they love it!

Give other comparables some serious consideration!

I'm all about quality, which means how much you get for your $$ as well as the valuation of a product. The Equinox falls significantly short of expectations, especially for the $$, compared to other SUV/CUVs. My first impression was cramped discomfort. I'm 6' 200lbs, so I'm not small but I'm not huge either. The seats were uncomfortable, although did have lumbar support and power on the driver side, the seated experience was "get out, now!". Although the dashboard was rather plain, I appreciate that lack of clutter; the center console MyLink system was abysmal though. Too many buttons to figure out what goes to what part of the dashboard to make this a driver-friendly experience. Road noise is horrible - for a FWD, there's an awful lot of noise from the rear end, which seems to only highlight my experience with GM products. There's far too much plastic and too little attention to sound-dampening (and seriously, a dealer inventory vehicle that had 20 miles on it has either brake or bearing whirl on the back end? - not a testament of solid engineering!). It made me think that the '80s and '90s were back. I honestly expected a lot more from this car and I'm glad I didn't buy it after the weekend's test drive. It was disappointing in pretty much every way, especially when compared to equivalent vehicles from other manufacturers. Creature comfort is important and it seems that Chevy has dropped the ball on this one. The engineers and designers at Chevy need to take a long look and a long ride in their competitors' inventory; more value for the $$ exists in others, no matter which one you choose.

Drove several mid-size SUV and cross-overs as rental car on 300-900 mile trips before buying my Equinox. Almost all rentals were FWD but I bought the AWD for Kansas City weather. Only drove the Escape one time, didn't like it at all; the older models were pretty nice but like most Fords, rough riding on a trip. Never rented a CR-V so test drove one. Seemed much smaller than the Equinox/Terrain. With seven rentals of GM's, I failed to get the published MPG only once, and got 37.4 over a 50 mile range coming home out of St. Louis. I have gotten 34.3 over 50 miles on my AWD. As for other reviews, seriously, its a 4 cylinder SUV; why even mention performance. It is almost as good as any regular V6 of a few years ago, merges fine and passes fine as well Really like the 8" front-back adjustment on the rear seat, really roomy when back all the way. Didn't know the rear seats reclined until i read other reviews! The 8 way driver seat with power lumbar is great for my 6', 260 frame. My 5'1" wife uses a small pillow behind her back on the manual seat and even in our late 60's can drive 650 miles a day with no problems. The Sirrius Radio is great, and reception locally is excellent on AM and FM. Radio is higher tech than I am; can't figure out how to use my phone charger in the USB port in the console without it searching out and playing some voice recordings off my phone! Just changed to a "lighter" power source. We got the ivory color after having a red Monte Carlo, and a blue Firebird. Seriously, I like the styling of the Terrain better, and most of the rentals we drove were Avis Terrains. But they drive the same and saved a couple thousand dollars. Like I said, you want a Hot Rod, get the V6. But for the mileage, I think the 4 is fine (this from a guy that owned 5 GTOs, 3 Firebirds, and a Dodge with a 440!)

Run away from this Chevy. The engine is loud, the front end lurches and feels unsteady. I know plastic rules in todays cars but this is way overboard. Cheap nobs for radio and A/C. It is hard to keep in a straight line, always fighting the steering wheel. The free Sirus radio for a few months is nice. It is a cheap car. Please check the Toyota and Honda in this class as this is a big LOSER.

I am so sorry I didn't stick with a GMC. I decided to get a smaller SUV, I hate this car, it drives fine since I don't drive very far. But the radio just gets on my last nerve, the sound is awful, it is so flat even when I have the base turned up. The radio keeps going to XM which I didn't use when it was free so I sure don't want to pay for it. The blower on the heater/ air is so loud you have to turn up the lousy radio or talk louder or turn it off in order to talk to anyone. But yet they put in a box in the back of the car to take up storage room, that blocks OUTSIDE sounds! WHY? I needed to put the seats dow to put some boxes in the back, the second row of seats DON'T lay flay, so most of my boxes which had breakables kept shifting towards the back of the car as I was driving, what a stupid design! I want rid of this car so badly, but probably won't get diddly squat for a trade in even with only 6000 miles in a year on the thing.

I was looking for a safe vehicle that was easy to get in and out of and have a lots of room for my family. The chevy equinox is the best choice. It is a complete package. Large and quite inside with more leg room then my Lincoln town car just not as wide. Has air bags both front and sides. And the doors have acoustic glass to keep it quiet and protect you in case of roll over. Equinox comes with active noise cancelation technology to combat the noise of its engine. The system Vallance and his team up with consists of an ANC module that kicks in when the engine is running in the 1,000 to 1,500 rpm range. Two microphones in the vehicle interior measure the amplitude and the phase of the engine noise sound waves and relay this information to the ANC module. To ensure it targets only the unwanted engine noise and not other noise inside the cabin, such as the stereo or passenger conversations, the module also takes into account the engine speed to calculate the target frequency that needs to be cancelled. Seats are very comfortable for my 14 hour trips I take once a month and commuting back and forth to work every day. The four cylinder is smooth, quiet and refined and works well with the 6 speed and seems to have a gear for every need. Does not work hard going over the mountains and still gets 28.4 miles to the gallon every day driving at 65 mph. Has four power ports one USB and one 3.5mm jack. This is an easy vehicle to live with and I would buy another one.

The electronics are great but on-star is very costly added to XM radio it could cost over $55.00 per month. The front seat quit once and dealer replaced fuse, also dealer left seat cover on side hanging off, so not happy about that. Very comfortable ride. Not fast if you are looking for sports car performance but I pass people easily enough, just have to allow more room than say a turbo boosted engine. As for the mileage I average 29 mpg which is great and I have gotten 37 mph for a 50 mile average. All in all I am pretty pleased with my Equinox 1 LT which has back up camera, power driver seat, 7" touch screen, 4G internet, navigation, satellite radio, remote start, and a lot of other features, just no fog lamps, but I only paid 26,000.00 out the door price and it had only 1500 miles on this demo.

I bought my 2015 equinox in may 2015. so far it has been in the shop 2 times for electrical issues, first time my whole dashboard shorted out radio included. 2nd time radio shorted out made an appt for the next day to have it looked at . when i went to go out in the car later that day my battery was dead too!! Very frustrated

I was in market to buy a mid size SUV for couple monthes. Checked specs and did test drive on 4 different cars. I was looking for a fuel economy, comfortable seat (front and rear) and rear seat air ducts. among all cars I drove I got a better feeling in Equinox. the only dissapoinment was no rear air duct, but finally I got it. Eventhough the dealership confirmed there is no rear seat air duct for Equinox, yesterday when I was looking for some lost item in the car, I found a rear seat air duct under the passenger front seat. It works great and supply ice cold air to rear seats. Its better for Chevy to mention this nice feature on the spec. So far about 500 miles on my beautiful Equinox with comfortable interior, smooth ride, and butiful exterior look. I wish Checy offer a simple chrome style fog light insert for the models (L, LS, 1LT) which does not come with factory installed fog light. It would make the look very better. To solve this matter I bought wide reflective sticky tape from Pep Boys, cut it in the size of for light inserts and put them on. from distance it looks like LED fog light installed. Like it and can't wait to see Equinox 2016 in the market.

Bought the vehicle due to ease of controls and fily features. However after driving 1000 miles reliably I need a jump everyte I want to drive it. Seems this is a common problem. Woyld like to hear if anyone's dealer found a solution to this! Seems like something is taking the power out while I sleep..I am guessing it's the onstar and the advertised wifi(?)..

I recently received my Equinox as my company car. Overall, it is not a bad car, but I hardly see why one would purchase it retail unless a good deal was offered. I'll keep the review simple: Pros: - Rides well and is reasonably quiet if you do not press the accelerator too hard (the 4-cylinder is loud when pressed). This is definitely one of the quieter small SUVs out there. - It handles fairly well for an SUV and comes with great Michelin Latitude tires (a huge plus) - The my link infotainment system works well and is a synch to use. - A/C blows nice and cold - great for those of us in the South - The rear seat has good leg room - Great crash test scores - Build quality seems good - The lane departure warning is helpful Cons: - The turning radius is 42 feet - HORRIBLE!! This thing is a chore to park in tight spaces. It is way easier to park our longer and wider Toyota Sienna (40 foot turning radius). - Speaking of our Sienna, averaging 22 MPG in mixed driving with a V-6. The Equinox is getting an average of 21 in mostly highway driving. - People who say this thing accelerates adequately must be coming from a 3 cylinder or live in a completely flat area. I have driven 4-cylinder accords (3 of them), a 4-cylinder fusion and a 4-cyclinder Rogue. All were easily quicker than this car. Even more sadly, our Sienna would sprint circles around this thing - yes a minivan beating a 'cool' SUV. If you have to accelerate on an incline for freeway speeds, good luck! - The cargo area is relatively small. We had a Rogue before (second generation), and it had way more usable space in the cargo area. Granted, you can slide the rear seats, but then you kill your rear leg room. - Finally, the seat comfort is lacking. The front seats are hard, and are fine on short distances. However, any journey past 2 hours, you will have a sore rear. The rear seat is great for leg room and is more comfortable, but sit in either outboard seat, and you notice a huge gap between it and the door. This translates into less hip room. Not sure why Chevrolet did not stretch the seat out more - there is room to do so. Other small SUVs I have been in do, and they score the same in side crash tests. Overall, this is not a bad SUV by any means. It certainly gets the job done. However, the sticker on my model is right at 30k. There are way better choices for this amount of money (think Rogue, CR-V, Santa Fe, Edge). I am not a crossover guy really, I like the most bang for my buck. You can have a Toyota Sienna LE for about the price of this thing. You get triple the room, a more comfortable ride, better fuel economy and better acceleration. Plus, getting kids in and out of it is so much easier.

I've had this vehicle for going on 4 months now. I switched from hyundai and kia to the chevy line specifically because I wanted to buy american. Mistake. I live in the northern virginia area, so most of my driving is city, but I visit my parents and my boyfriend frequently and both require highway driving. My office is exactly 3 miles from home - I am averaging between 16 - 19 mpg. This low average is even after I've noticed how low it is and specifically try to drive conservatively. I feel irresponsible and embarrassed to drive a vehicle that receives such low mileage and I never would have switched had I known this was going to be the case - since switching from my kia, nothing about my commute or habits have changed and I'm averaging about 10 mpg lower in this new vehicle. In addition to the low mileage - the engine sounds horrible. It literally sounds like it is eating gas the way it has to chug for any sort of pickup. I have asked several other Equinox owners about their mileage and they all agree on how horrible it is. One lady also said that her car goes through so much oil that the dealership had to replace the engine because it was burned out; her vehicle is barely a year old. Other than this major complaint, my other 2 are fairly minor. The seats themselves (shape, support) are very comfortable, but the material is horrible. It doesn't bother my boyfriend, but when I'm wearing a skirt, it is itchy and painful due to the hole-y pattern. The other complaint is the highly reflective material used on the trim around the gear shifter. When the sun hits it correctly, it is blinding. Things I do like: layout of the electronics panel and dials, leg room, ceiling height (I'm 5'11''), trunk space, back up camera, interior lighting, rear window wiper AND wiper fluid (this is an awesome feature). Unfortunately, all of the pro's are completely outweighed by the gas mileage issue. I have officially logged a complaint with Chevy and anyone else who is experiencing this issue should too!

So underpowered

This car has a nice interior but it is severely underpowered. I have to floor it to accelerate on the highway all the time. I end up getting tailgated all the time because I can't get the car to go as fast as I want in an appropriate amount of time. This car also uses more gas then it advertises. I got much better mileage from my Dodge Charger honestly. Another minor thing but something that bugs the crap out of me is that the gear shift and Chevy logo on the wheel are ridiculously shiny. They constantly catch the light and blind me. Something so small but matters so much when driving. I'm not kidding, it is absurdly shiny and I'm blinded 25% of the time I drive. Chevy definitely needs to dull that down. Also don't change your oil when recommended because it's inaccurate. Change it more frequently

The performance is definitely adequate. It won’t sit you back in the seat like a 460 horse Corvette, but it will pass comfortably on the highway and is real spunky in town. Lets talk mileage. You wouldn’t believe me if I told you. I do have pictures of my message center of the average mileage

Hello, We opted for the 4 cyl for our new 2015 Equinox. I find the 4cy plenty powerful and good on acceleration. I think for the reviewer to say you'll have to have the gas pedal floored is outrageous. If you're really doing that, than this isn't the car for you to begin with. I just personally feel, that for author to keep beating up on the 4cy is unwarranted. People buy this car to use and for mpg, not for a sports car.

I rated this model excellent for reliability but I haven't owned long enough to accurately comment on the attribute. Overall the car is pretty much what I expected after driving a VW Tiguan SE 4Motion for 3 years. The motor is smooth and powerful but not really inspiring. Lots and lots of technology helps keep my mind off of the numb steering and sounds of NY salt and sand pinging off the bottom of the vehicle. Braking is adequate and a little better than I expected. Visibility is great and seats are firm and comfortable. MSRP on my model seemed high at $37k but GM made it affordable with almost $4k in lease incentives.

In my original review, below, I complained about the Equinox implementation of paddle shifting. I felt that it did not speed-match the transmission like most Nissan and Mitsubishi vehicles, and therefore, it could not be used for downshifting at speed to benefit from compression drag and extend the life of brakes. That problem seems to have disappeared over time. I am uncertain if my current perception (it is just as good as any other manufacturer) is due to my having gained experience with the transmission—or if it is because the SUV contains software that changes behavior based on my driving habits, or perhaps after a break-in period. Either way, I withdraw that criticism. But here is a more important update… I have owned 8 cars in my driving career. Most were luxury or at least the LTD version of an SUV. But with this Equinox, I bought the base trim package with only two dealer upgrades: AWD and mud flaps. That’s it! And yet, after 18 months and 18k miles, I have zero defects, zero squeaks and rattles, and zero complaints. This is a first for me. I have never ownmed a vehicle for which I could find absolutely nothing wrong. Add to this, the fact that the base model includes a surprising array of creature comforts and that my lease cost is ridiculously low—and that Chevy takes care of the car for 2 full years (I pay ONLY for gas)... Add it all up and you have one very happy puppy. In my book, Chevy Equinox is a winner in every way! _____________ [My original review—1st impressions] I have owned a long list of small and mid-size SUVs, both foreign and domestic. Until now, I have always purchased the high-end luxury trim, typically "Ltd" or a name-branded premium package, such as "Eddie Bauer"). This time I chose the plain base model with AWD as the only addition. The 2015 Equinox LS is anything but plain! Perhaps it is a sign of the times, but this baby feels quiet & luxurious. It includes everything you would expect on a higher end package, except sunroof. With Onstar for 6 months, it even sports turn-by-turn navigation. The ride is comfortable, suspension seems tight and tires are terrific. But there were some disappointing surprises. Read on...
