When I first started looking at crossovers in 2013 I looked everywhere but what eventually sold me with this car was the turning radius and handling, I used to like my fast, sporty cars and this one was a great transition. Since then I have driven this vehicle from Florida all the way to California (starting in Houston, TX) and have not had any problems besides the FOB and brakes. Be careful with the FOB, your car will do REALLY weird things when the battery is low. My brakes had to be completely replaced and rotors turned at 70K miles. Seat comfort is not very good, I haven't seen or sat in some of the new models but I'm hoping it doesn't cut off circulation in the future because I'm hoping to buy a new one next year with AWD. However, I don't mind because I just love driving this car. I actually drove the PCH with it and man, was it fun! Gas mileage is also great, and I never had issues accelerating and braking which is very important in Houston, TX. I always have plenty of room for all my junk, and this is a FANTASTIC road trip car even with just FWD. Literally not a single issue when driving it through Death Valley and mountains in mid-June. This was a good first car purchase, just wish I had gone with the Grand Touring over the Touring and gotten a different exterior color.

I usually prefer a vehicle with strong acceleration and sporty handling. I find the CX5 to have adequate acceleration, but anything lacking on the acceleration front is more than made up for by the great Transmission/ Chassis/ Brakes. A great driving experience.

Does everything great. New tires at 60k miles & brakes are still in great shape. As a 215,000 mile Subaru Outback owner from 2005 - 2013, I was surprised how well the Mazda AWD performed. It is very quick to correct motion in foul weather. I have high hopes for keeping this well into the 2020s.

I'm not one to gush, but Mazda's CX-5 is worth gushing over... this SUV is "easy" in all respects and super dependable, oil changes and wash only... Great performance in the snow, I feel safe driving it... It has the pickup required to accelerate quickly, gorgeous exterior styling, best value ever... It's a joy to drive!

Just passed 50.000 miles in my cx-5 gets 27 MPG at 80 to 85 miles and hour. Drive it the speed limit your get 32 MPG at least. Great little suv! Still tight,, handles very well. Putting new tires on it soon .I love burning all those v8 pickup drivers that cant stand it when a little mazda suv passes them. There are so many of them! Believe me that truck will not due 130. Any ways, I have not had one problem with mine. Really love it.

I have the CX-5 6 speed which is a blast to drive. You are talking to a guy that had a Mazda RX-7 for 9 years and a RX-8 for 8 years so I know the thrill of driving. I understand the 2.5 liter is more powerful but...If you know how to handle a stick. The 2.0 liter is more than enough. If its not worth driving than why build it? Most people just hit the gas and are pre occupied with other things.....I love to go through the gears and make that engine sing.

I Leased a Mazda CX - 5 2014 Grand Touring during Acceleration car jerks and slams into gear. Mazda Techs couldn't diagnose the problem after several Repair appointments. Lease is up Oct.2016 got riddance my worst car ever.

I have had this car for about a month and I am please so far. It is a smooth ride and I feel safe in it. It has plenty of room for all the riders and in the cargo space. Easy to accelerate and brake. I love the navigation system and the digital radio. Happy with my purchase!

Brake problems

I was surprised to hear a grinding noise from rear at about 2 years and a few months after ownership. I'm not an aggressive driver who is constantly accelerating and braking, i maintain constant speeds with very minimum soft braking. my fears were confirmed when the dealer confirmed that my rear brake pads and rotor has to be replaced at ~ 34K miles and these things are not covered under warranty. just do a simple internet search on mazda cx 5 and brake problem you will receive many many hits. complained to mazda usa and nhtsa. my nissan rear brakes lasted for about 5 plus years approx 65K miles before they were replaced. this suggests something wrong with mazda cx 5. another issue im facing with this car is squeaky seats , they started after the first year.. it is very annoying.. all seats squeak, so suggests some bad quality material and design... another issue is some constant rattling noise from rear side... dealer is not willing to look into this in much detail. he wants me to leave the car at shop for few days before he can get to it... just living on with this annoying noise... Update 06/2016 Mazda agreed to cover parts cost for brakes replacement this time, but dreading more frequent replacements in future.. The squeaky seats and rattling noise have not aggravated so okay for now.. Almost Hitting 45k miles .. Everything else is good go

What a mistake I made buying this POS. The overdrive sticks so although you're hitting the brakes, the engine is revving higher making it harder to control. According to the dealer, this is an engineering problem that all SkyActiv vehicles have. The so-called "high definition" BOSE stereo fades in and out and radio stations with strong signals come in with static (even in high definition). The Bluetooth is useless as it's only compatible with certain phones and the iPhone isn't one of them. All in all, an incredibly bad decision on my part and even worse was the dealer I went to - Palisades Mazda in West Nyack, NY. They are a part of the Precision Auto Group and they are the definition of lowlife car salesmen. Once they have your money, they don't want to know from you and if you give honest answers to their feedback request, they will confront you about any responses that were not glowing. When I raised these issues with them, they told me to contact Mazda directly - in essence, they told me to [non-permissible content removed]. Never EVER again. One year in and I still wish I never bought this car. The Mazda brand pales in comparison to its competitors. They went to the absolute cheapest electronics manufacturer for their cars. Example: blind spot monitors (BSM) go off when you have a divider or guardrail on either side. Then they don't go off when you have a vehicle in your blind spot. I've given up complaining to Mazda about it since they just don't care. You are far, far, FAR better off with spending the extra money on a Honda. Hell, you'd be better off with a Ford Pinto.

I have a 2014. Mazda CX-5. Get.. Great car but for the following . No ac vent in rear. Passengers very uncomfortable. Blue tooth never works properly. And for a car that cost over 30k no compass even through I have the tech package.

Great engine, transmission and suspension. Not impressed with body robustness. Great cargo space, however very poor cabin storage. Noisy on highway speeds (60-70 mph). Looks like some flaws are part of the 2016 upgrade.

Brakes a Problem!!

After software updates failed, replaced entire radio/bluetooth/nav system (covered under warranty, but multiple dealer visits). Replaced rear differential (covered under warranty - no loaner car, multiple day repair). Now at 18 months and 24k miles, not only are the rear brake pads gone, but the rotors gone as well. Car is driven under normal conditions and front brakes are fine (at least at this point). Mazda agrees that they wore quickly, but will not cover or partially pay for repair. My first Mazda purchase and possibly my last.

The Kelly Blue book gave the 2014 Mazda CX5 the top rating for an SUV that year. I tried every SUV on the market and liked this the best. For short people, however, the length of the seats is somewhat uncomfortable, but a pillow behind the back solves this. I would have liked the vehicle even more if I had a good experience at the dealer. CardinaleWay Mazda in Mesa, AZ was the worst car buying experience I have ever had! The sales person was fine, but when the deal was taken over by the used car manager and finance person, the experience turned horrific. The pressure to take the expensive add-on extended warranties was amazing; making me feel stupid for not taking it. I won't go on and on, but I couldn't wait to get out of there and it definitely put a damper on the car. I would definitely not recommend buying a car from this dealer.

My front rotors began to shimmy badly on braking at around 22k miles. I was told the rotors were "visibly warped". What? You're kidding right? I replaced the rotors (pads were like new) and about 10k later it did the same thing. This time i had the original rotors turned and bought new pads as well. still ok at 3k later, but i checked a squeaking sound in my rear brakes and found they were completely worn down and scoring the rotors. Now I have to replace the rear rotors and pads too. This is absolutely unacceptable! I've NEVER had a car go through brakes and rotors like this and I've owned cars for 35 years. No more Mazdas for me!

Wife bought the 1st gen CX-5 GT AWD. I loved to drive it except it was slightly underpowered. When Mazda introduced the 2.5L 184 HP engine, I went and bought my own Touring AWD. Love this car. Agile and fast for it's class. Can take a turn like a sports car. Excellent gas mileage for a vehicle it's size. I've never gotten under 25MPG. Cargo room is plentiful. I've taken on some rough forest roads and the car performs like a rally car. BOSE stereo is excellent. The only negative I would give to the CX-5 is road noise. It's not 'bad' but seems like it could be quieter. I understand 2016 model has improved this. Installed my own factory Nav unit for $400.00. Took 10 minutes.

After six months and 6000 miles we still really like the vehicle. The AWD handles mountain roads and snow storms superbly. The manual control, of the auto transmission, is the best I have used, - smooth, no jerks, which is necessary for downshifting on icy, steep roads. The electronics, navigation and Bluetooth, are, at best, antiquated and inadequate. The HVAC works, but, when the cabin is hot, you must manually turn up the fan control to max. The Cruise switches are dangerous with Cancel and Resume being next to each other, and the Resume the easiest to hit. Mileage is as represented. After two years, my feelings remain constant. If anything, my patience with the poor performance of the Bluetooth, "Information" systems, and HVAC wears more thin. At the 30,000 mile mark. Our opinions and feelings remain constant. We haven't had any mechanical problems.

I bought my car in Oct 2013, and it was ok for about 5 months. I switched from a Toyota Highlander (which I absolutely LOVED) to save on gas. While I realized gas savings over the Highlander, I am not getting the gas mileage they promised. I average 26 mpg tops! On top of that, my vehicle had to be at the service center on 3 occasions, all for the same problem. My push button start would not work correctly. They still haven't fully fixed the problem. The other problems are road noise and no interior storage, and not enough cup holders, which made for a very long trip with my kids. All in all, while it has saved some $ on gas, I don't think I would not buy another Mazda again.

After much online research (on edmunds and elsewhere) I decided on the CX-5 over the RAV-4 and the CR-V. I based this on horsepower, transmission, styling and fun-to-drive factors. Leased the vehicle in January, now have over 10K miles. Mostly use it for weekend trips and daily commute. My mileage is at 28 combined which is right about the sticker est.

Favorite car I have owned so far, and my first Mazda. I purchased it in Feb of 2014, I got the AWD Sport model since I wanted a lease payment under $300 a month - can't say enough good stuff about this car. I rented one for a weekend previously to see how it was, and took it through a foot of snow in upstate NY without a slip or slide. It was comfortable and a ton of fun to drive.

I am really, really impressed so far. I switched over from an Infiniti G37 S because I wanted a bit more room with a new baby in the house. It also saved about $90 per month on car payments. I definitely miss the pick up on the G37 but in terms of technology (ease of use and device compatibility) and comfort, the CX-5 blows the G37 away. Few features that I miss are memory for the driver seat positions (not available) and power passenger seat (not available). But I can definitely live without those and overall the car is excellent. It handles well, tight steering, comfortable seats, surprisingly spacious for a crossover, and great gas mileage so far.

Brake Problems/MPG decline

I loved this car but after 18 months the brake pads went bad. According to the dealer there was no reason and since the warranty on those expires at 12,000 miles or 12 months we were stuck with having to pay for all new rear brake pads and rotors. There is no reason they should have failed and Mazda Customer Service said "Too bad not under warranty". The MPG has also steadily declined after 6 months even with regular maintenance. I am disappointed since we bought it for it's supposed fuel efficiency and safety. After this experience I do not expect this to be a reliable long lived car and will not buy a Mazda in the future. Update, we've had the car 3-4 years now we had to replace the brakes again and the oil pressure sensor, mazda maintains this is an us problem even though the dealer admitted they see this a lot. I'll be happy when I'm rid of this car. Total piece of junk.

Review of our car after 2-1/2 years of ownership. Our 2014 CX5 GS AWD continues to be a good vehicle and everything continues to be pretty much as expected. The gas mileage continues to be low 20's around town and high 20's on the highway. A little lower than I would like for a small vehicle, but comparable to others. The performance though, remains mediocre at best - Mazda really needs to work on this... Lack of interior lighting in the rear remains a real miss. Bose Audio system is very nice! Some indicate it's not a "true" Bose, but it is quite acceptable. Had a periodic issue with the tire pressure sensor telling us air is low when it's w/in 1 lb of standard. Apparently it's very sensitive - too much so! This issue is no longer occurring - a software update may have cured it. A few entertainment system gremlins have popped up requiring some shop visits to fix Bluetooth and USB. Nothing huge, but a little new for this to happen in my opinion. See likes/dislikes below for various features. Over-all, still a good choice!

Had my CX-5 for 5 days. Love the drive, love the styling, love the gas mileage. Hate, hate, hate the locking system. Are you kidding me with this maybe the lift gate will lock and maybe it won't. How would you know. You have to walk away and when you come back with your key it is always open. What the heck is the purpose of the black button anyway. Are we supposed to depend that this locking sensor is going to work indefinitely. How do we know when it stops working. Not light, no beep not indicator, no nothing. Worse design I have ever seen. I am 66. I have owned a lot of cars. I would not have purchased this one had I known. Will try to get a lock installed

Have own our 2014 AWD GT for 3000 miles. Very happy with the car. Wanted to write a review cause it was the many reviews on Edmunds that eventually helped me select the CX-5 over the Forester. CX-5 (in my opinion) just handles better. Tracks real well, very stable. Soaks up more bumps and noise better than the Forester. Brakes well, handled very well in snow and rain. Forester - can't beat the wonderful and huge sunroof, visibility MUCH better - CX-5 needs more attention. Better heated seats on the Forester. Bottom line - Mazda offered better trade, finance, car better handling. Couldn't pass up - just more bang for the buck.

55,000 update on 2014 CX-5

Have now owned this for almost 55,000 miles - mostly highway 80% - with remainder in stop-and-go in-city driving. Engine, transmission, continue to be excellent. Very good pick up for a 4 banger - however, mine is the 2.5L engine, so I wouldn't go with the 2.0L. average mileage around 26 mpg - with best around 30 mpg on highway, avg. 65 mph. Sound system (BOSE) continues to be excellent - however ipod connection regularly very low in connection/start-up; but Siruis/XM reception , AM/FM and Pandora/bluetooth connections excellent. I still am not used to the Tom-Tom navigation (having been used to garmin for years); a little slow and extra steps to change routes, but OK. Only regular maintenance so far, no major repairs, service with dealership has been excellent (Russel Mazda in Baltimore), replaced tires at 50k. I am hoping that this will last as long as my 2000 Mazda626 (which I still have and is going strong at 313k miles!). Definitely an improvement over my 2008 Nissan Rogue (which I didn't like because of having to replace the CVT at 110k, and timing belt breaking on me while driving on the highway at 135k). This car reinforces my brand loyalty to Mazda (owning them since 1990). Will give you another update at 100k

Build quality may be an issue... Week 2 : the passenger seat trim vibrating noise, probably due to contact when exiting vehicle. Fixed by dealer. Week 3 : front windows vibrating noise when opened slightly. Not bothersome enough to take to dealer, but disappointing nonetheless. TSB was eventually issued but dealer conveniently "forgot" to order the parts, whatever. Week 4 : right sun visor vibration noise, goes away if opened then reclosed. Tolerable and persists to this day. Week 6 : upper right corner of center console touch screen makes intermittent rubbing noise. Tolerable and persists to this day. Since the beginning, there's also been a ceiling vibration noise if only the rear windows are open. Apparently, this kind of wind harmonics problem is common for many cars. Again, more disappointment. The transmission automatically downshifts when slowing past 19 mph presumably to allow for smoother acceleration after speeding around a corner. Problem is this situation occurs in probably 2% of my commute. Having a "race car driver" in my tranny, as Mazda likes to call it, is hardly helpful if it doesn't know that most of the time I just want to coast to a stop instead of burning through a turn. After almost 3 years of ownership, I'm still trying to get used to this. Front door armrests are not the same height as the center console armrest. No biggie if you don't mind getting chronic scoliosis. Why is there only one switch that is lit out of all 4 door panels ? Is this supposed to make a huge difference to the sticker price ? Am I the only Mazda owner who fumbles for the switches at night ? Cargo area light is placed on the side wall instead of the ceiling, probably for easier wire routing. I prefer having the light shine from above where it's less of a glare on your eyes and lights up the cargo hold better. Rear window wiper way louder than front windshield wiper even though it's only a single wiper and further away from the driver. Meh. A-pillars are much thicker than my previous car. Nice to have if it increases safety but hard to get used to especially when making left turns at an intersection without traffic signals. Front headrests are angled WAY too forward which forces my head down and I have to look up to see the road. Simply a terrible driving position that can't be fixed no matter how I adjust the headrest height or seatback pitch. The NHTSA should really revise this rule so tall folks don't have to install their headrests in reverse and use neck pillows while still achieving whiplash prevention efficacy. Rear headrests are too bulky and block the rear view in the mirror. Both of the side headrests should be like the center one shaped like an upside-down "L". Automatic headlights really should've came standard by this day and age. I know someone with a '99 Camry LE that has it but 15 years later I still have to flip the switch every night by myself...? Adjusting the volume brings up a notification tab on the upper right of the touch screen. Unfortunately this happens while the backup camera is in use as well, which could be potentially dangerous if it just so happens to block your view of that kid coming up behind your car while you're backing up. A/C can be weak sauce sometimes as others have noted, but if it contributes to fuel efficiency, then I'm down with that. However, the center air vents are simply too low. As a result, the cool A/C can only be directed at my right hand or lower instead of my face. Clearly, none of the Mazda engineers/designers are over 6 ft tall. Those side vents that blows air at the front windows should also be closable because I don't imagine most of us tracking snow into the car that often. Vents for the passengers in the back would've been nice too. The 3-spoke steering wheel looks nice and sporty but there are days when I like to drive lazy and put my hands at the 4 and 8-o'clock positions. The lack of spokes there means more of a workout for my arms but it's not a killer like the damn headrest. A pleasant audible lock/unlock confirmation beep would be nice instead of just the signal lights flashing with the initial push of the remote button and the horn blaring the second time. Tail pipes could be a bit bigger so that it looks more proportional with rest of the car, no ? Can't open/close windows after engine is shut off, unlike most other cars. Easy fix that should have been caught in testing stage. Exterior/interior color combos are rather lacking. All-black interior doesn't look bad per se but makes driving during those hot summer months quite hellish. Nitpick : why are the interior door handles so far forward for the folks up front ? That concludes the Cons. Everything else is as awesome as everyone says. Above average fuel economy, roomy, easily looks and drives better than anything else in its class, and a pleasure to own/maintain thus far.

I purchased my 2014 CX5 in early 2013. It has 25,000 miles at this time, mostly highway miles. In the last 6 months there have been times when accelerating to pass, the car accelerates to extreme after I have let off the accelerator, and the tachometer flies up as if the accelerator is sticking. The accelerator also flies up while breaking. It is becoming more and more frequent. After reading another review on the same subject, I felt it necessary to confirm the issue. I am very disappointed, as this vehicle was not cheap.

I bought my 2014 Mazda CX-5 Touring back in May of 2013. I used to be a Dodge guy all the way, but my best friend, who runs a Mazda dealership, introduced me to this ride. I am a heavy commuter, 100 miles a day, and have already put 20,000 miles on it. I have not had one single problem and have had great gas mileage. It is a fun to drive car and a safe ride for me, my wife, and our 14 month old son. Decent cargo room, and the 2014 has that 2.5 liter engine, giving it a boost over the 2.0 from 2013. I'm looking forward to Mazda's reliability to get me through years of commuting, because I do A LOT of driving. I highly reccommend!

Drives awesome; poor audio system

I bought this car because I was looking for a balance of performance and efficiency, as well as decent cargo space. I feel Mazda has delivered for me. I have a 6 year old and a 2 year old--they're both in full size car seats that fit fine. Cargo space appears sufficient after three months of use. The car is really fun to drive, and handled this bad NJ snowy winter very, very well. That said, I also love a good audio system, and this one in the CX-5 is a colossal disappointment.

I purchased a 2014 GT/AWD 2.5 CX-5 in October 2013. I test drove Audi, Lexus, BMW and Infinity models of compact SUVs (with the intent to buy a luxury SUV), but this vehicle was the best bang for the buck overall. This vehicle felt comparable in handling and "fun to drive" with the Audi Q5. The size is great for (downtown) city driving (as about 90% of my driving is). I am getting great gas mileage, around 23-24 mpg city. It handles well in the snow, and feel like I have good traction when the road condition is less than perfect. I feel that it has good power to make it up the CO mountain roads. The trim level is good with just a few things needing improvement for the GT trim level.

An update to the review written only a few days after buying... We've now put 2500 miles on our '14 CX5 AWD and it's performing well. Nothing failing, no problems - performing about as expected. Gas mileage not quite what we hoped but still reasonable at around 25 mpg combined. Closer to 30 on the open road but never higher average than that. Finding a few shortcoming described below, but so far a good choice in a new vehicle.

After test driving all of the competitors (Ford, Honda, Nissan, Toyota, Subaru, Hyundai), I settled on a 2014 CX-5 Touring to replace a 2001 VW Jetta Wagon. I was tempted by the Sport model, but the larger engine in the Touring and GT is much peppier for passing. I've had the vehicle now for about 3 months and do not regret my decision. The performance is more than adequate, handling is pretty good and gas mileage has been better than my VW and more than acceptable. I drive long distances a couple of times a week and have enjoyed the cruise control. Overall, it's a solid and fun care to drive, with plenty of room for hauling kids, gear, etc. Perfect for a small family. Update (3/24/2016): After owning this vehicle for a little more than two years and putting about 57,000 miles on it, I can say I am still very happy with the vehicle. I got about 46,000 miles out of the stock tires and had to replace them about 7 months ago. I purchased the Yokohama Avid Ascend to replace the stock Yokohama's and they seem to do well in dry and wet conditions. My driving is combined city/hwy and I'm averaging 28.6 miles per gallon fairly consistently over the last 40,000 miles or so. The only service the vehicle has needed was routine oil and filter changes and the tires - I've had no mechanical failures thus far. The vehicle still rides well and handles well. I don't have any experience driving the vehicle in snow conditions, but wet traction and handling is solid, especially with good tires. The interior has held up well. I have the tan interior and have managed to keep it pretty clean, even with kids getting in and out and riding in it. No major rattles or cracks from the plastics either. And yes, it is still fun to drive! It still has the pep that it had from day one and has kept it's good looks in the style department. Overall, I'm very pleased with my purchase and would not hesitate to purchase another CX-5.

Coming from a Rav4, a step down

I live on a gravel road in the land of snow. The car managed just fine this winter with our snow, ice and slop. I did not have any trouble getting up the hill to the house. I get less mileage than others, as you would expect, given our driving conditions. Driving along this winter and a piece of the interior plastic below the dash just fell off. Why? I don't know. It is now lying on the counter in my kitchen waiting to be dealt with. I don't really think that I would buy another one. Lacking power.

Driving side mirror replaced due to vibration at highway speeds. Three trips to dealership(s) to finally resolve instrument panel rattle. Still noticeable body noise and resonance from rear. Thinking of trading in for a Subaru Crosstrek as have driven that car over similar terrain with no problems.

My wife previously owned a 2010 3 hatchback. We loved that car. I loved that car even though I am 5'10", and 220 pounds, I fit comfortably in that car. But my wife wanted something bigger, and when the CX-5 came out it was the perfect choice for her. I like the CX-5, but wonder where the memory seats went? Mazda please explain the silly logic of eliminating memory seats??? The 2013 3 had them. My wife being 5'4", and me being 5'10", you can understand my dilemma. I bought my CX-5 last summer after doing a lot of research to find a small suv that would get good gas mileage. I thought I had made the right decision but now I'm thinking I made somewhat of a mistake. I like most things about this car, the way it handles and it's comfort and convenience but mine is getting lousy gas mileage. Mazda claims I should get 26/35 but I'm generally only getting 20mpg! Even my dealership was questioning this low mileage. They have checked the car over but found nothing wrong suggesting that I use a better grade of gas. I did so but it made no difference. My BMW 325i I traded got better. I'm really thinking of trading this car as I'm disappointed in Mazda's claims.

Having driven the CX5 for a year I must say Mazda needs to make some changes in my opinion. Handling is very good, fuel mileage is good for the 2.5 and power is pretty decent. Seats are comfortable and driving position has good visibility. Overall not a terrible choice but could be a lot better for the price. Will be looking for a replacement in the next few months.

I did my research for a new SUV/CUV purchase, compared all the manufactures out there. Price was important, but so was power and features of the cars. My choice was clear after I test drove the CX-5, had the power I needed for every day traffic, comfort, handling (This thing handles like its on rails) and the tech included. Bose sound is fabulous, I wouldn’t go without if considering this car. Gas mileage was best in class for an AWD CUV with the HP offered. Sure, the 260 HP Turbo offerings from other manufactures sure sounded nice, but the MPG suffered drastically and so did the sticker price. In my opinion, you can’t get a better car in this class for the price,not with all the CX-5 offers

I had a CX-5 as a loaner vehicle a few months back and was really impressed by it. Had to drive upstate to visit family and snow was predicted, so I wanted an AWD vehicle and it really impressed. When I decided to buy, I test drove the Sport with the 2.0 liter and was more than pleased with the power. I ended up leasing a 2014.5 Dark blue with Sand cloth interior with bluetooth. The mica finish is beautiful and the contrasting cloth interior is really unique. UPDATE AFTER 3 YEARS: The seats and the audio system are the worst features of the car. The seats in the Sport model lack adjustments the lumbar is too aggressive without adjustments. The bluetooth audio system crashes, malfunctions, refuses to shuffle music - it's like driving around with a beta version of an audio system constantly. It's frustrating on a daily basis. For those 2 reasons alone, I'm ready for my lease to end.

Traded in a '11 Ford Escape Limited AWD for the '14 Mazda CX-5 GT in Sep, 2013 so this is after 4 mo of use. Overall, a good vehicle. Pickup is good, comparable to the V6in the Escape. Mileage is better, though not as good as some on here indicate. In town averaging 23-24 mpg. However, in winter cold, mileage has dropped to 20-21 mpg. Use of remote start in bitter cold for 10 minutes, mileage drops to 18-19. Sound system is good, but not as good as the system in the '11 Escape. Some on here have complained about the Bluetooth connection. I have been using Pandora and the system works fine. Unlike satellite radio (ie Sirius), Pandora is coming through your cellphone first, then to the onboard

Bought this very recently and thus far, we're very happy. We'll update this review after a few months with new findings and experience... Contrary to a few reports, there is little road noise, the Bose system works great, Nav is just fine and the seats are very comfortable. This is NOT a European luxury vehicle - at the CX5 price point, just add another $25K if you're determined to have true luxury. Otherwise, after seeing virtually every other C-SUV, this Mazda competes quite well with all of it's competitors and in general, it does it for less! Well worth looking at !!!

Have driven my Grand Touring 2014 for 5,000 miles now. The good: handles wonderful, brakes are great, visibility excellent, comfort very good. No complaints on build quality, style, or driveability. It's not perfect but was the best choice for me relative to its competition. Major surprise is the driveability of car. I did not really expect it. 2.5 is a little beast (that's good). Major disappointment is the radio, gps, and gas mileage.

After 6 months, traded it for a Subaru

After falling in love with the CX5 and really enjoying it, some warts really started to show. My commute changed from 55mi a day, 70% hwy to 40mi mostly city and my MPG really crashed. Was getting 30+ mpg per tank, after moving I never saw 20 mpg again. Then there's the wear on the interior - the seats in my 2004 Honda with 170k looked better than the CX5's after less than 6 months. The drivers seat looked beat after 8k miles and stray threads were popping up in the pass seat. The carpet in the rear hatch was trashed after I moved bags and boxes, I hauled tons of stuff in my Honda and it looked better, can't imagine how bad the CX5 will look in 5 years, brutal. Got a great Subaru trade.

I have been driving my 2014 CX-5 Grand Touring for a couple of days now. I got the base Grand Touring model with a remote start and a trailer hitch. The car itself is nice with good handling and styling. The car just looks nice. The 19" wheels are a distinctive feature that really makes the car unique. The handling of the car is nice but not dramatically different than other cars in its class. And really, why buy this car of this class for handling anyway?

originally looking at CX9. Dealer said best hoped for mileage would be 22-24. Needed better. Bought this 2014 as a certified preowned, 6 mos old, 11000 miles. it is the Grand Touring with 2.5 engine. plenty of power, smooth running, smooth shifting, and best of all great mileage. I was used to a tdi Jetta getting 49 mph. Mazda estimates this engine at 30 combined and 35 highway. that is exactly what I am getting; and actually closer to 36. I couldn't be happier. Interior room much larger than I had expected. I can carry 4 golf bags and their owners with comfort. Here is an update after 18 months of ownership and 36,000 additional all-around miles. It is still a wonderful small SUV. Combined mileage hovers around 28; long freeway only drives around 34. I dropped overall rating for these reasons: Performance: unlike my previous Jetta that still had original brakes after 250,000 miles, i replaced the mazda brakes at 38,000. Let's see how long the aftermarket pads last compared to the factory. Comfort: Still very comfortable. However, when exiting the drivers side, my shoe will occasionally get hooked on the plastic console shroud that extends down alongside the accelerator and runs back to the seat. it hasn't been an issue with moving from the pedal to the brake, yet. Of course, my feet are big. But i dropped a star on the rating for this issue. Interior: Dropped a star here because of material quality. The carpet is cheap. it is as if they took a sheet of flexible plastic, heated it and dropped short fiber on it. There is no pile at all. Dirt and grit adheres to these little fibers and is hard to vacuum. Safety: Dropped a star due to the visibility. i know all the small SUVs suffer here. Thank goodness for the blindside radar, because it is hard to see vehicles in the blind spot. And the front A Pillars are so large that they restrict to the front left and right. Entertainment: Dropped a star here. You pay extra for the Bose, but it sounds no better than my old stock Jetta system. And 100 miles past the 36,000 warranty the separate bluetooth amp went out. Dealer wanted $800 to repair. After my complaint to the Manufacturer, they settled on $80. Reliability: I dropped a star here due to the dealer support. They could have settled the bluetooth amp issue but chose not to, and my biggest gripe is the constant oversell for service items. Value: Still high. A fantastic SUV with low maintenance and high fuel mileage. Overall, i dropped it a star. But i would buy it again.

Purchased it loaded with everything possible on the 2014 CX-5 Grand Touring. Its gas mileage surpasses expectation at 28.6 city using cruise control when possible. The 2.5 engine is peppy and responds fast, nothing sluggish about this vehicle whatsoever. Thankfully the rear camera doesn’t beep at you when in reverse up like a Prius, and inside beep would is so useless. (As if you don’t know you are backing up?) The heated seats are nice on cold mornings and warm quickly. The 9-speaker Bose stereo system is symphony quality and quiets any minimal road noise. The navigation (TomTom) is touchy but adequate. I would prefer to see a Garmin navigation system in the CX-5 but that is a personal pref

Ok, I read all of the reviews on all of the RAV4, CRV, Rogue and Escape and I purchased a CX-5 Why? MY wife liked it best, I loved the Escape but it had to much stuff! 15000 commands and I could not program a command, Hmmm. Rav4 just felt old and did the CRV. The Rogue simply was the victim of its own delays and timing, Nissan kept delaying shipments to sell off remaining 2013's so We could not drive and compare a 2014 to the CX-5. Back to the CX-5, 2014 GT runs like it was stolen with the peppy 2.5L and CVT, inside the reviewers got it mostly correct. The NAV is the best once you get past its slow speed. P.S. Forester Boring yet capable if you stay awake.

The only Mazda I have owned are Miata (three cars). I loved them for their performance oriented handling and reliability even when they are over 10 years old. Therefore, CX5 was the first crossover vehicle I researched when I started looking for a bigger vehicle to replace my last Miata. I did comparison with other make and models over and over and I always came to the same conclusion. CX-5. Some competitors were ranked higher than CX5 by Consumer Reports. However, none of them had better gas mileage or had lower MSRP when equipped similarly. I went and traded in my Miata for a CX5 after a couple of test drives. There have been new updates to the interior as of November 2013 on the 2014 cx-5 model. I just purchased a white GT with Tan leather interior. The transmission shift gate has been greatly improved to a straight up and down shifter with a leather boot and chrome surround. No more cheap plastic look. I was pleasantly surprised when my CX was delivered to the dealer as I was not expecting this.

Firstly, heart felt thanks to all the other reviewers for their reviews in helping in my car purchase process. Had to make a decision between the CX5 vs Forester and went with the CX5. So far so good. Car makes engine noise when just started and also on windy conditions, you can hear the wind noise inside the car. Drives real smooth around corners and in city conditions. For me the lack of reclining back seats nor enough rear leg room for adults was not a deal breaker. Forester has better reliability and AWD as standard. CX5 Bose/Tech package is amazing especially the night adaptive halogen headlights. If you drive around poorly lit areas, this will make a ton of difference.

I was coming off owning a '98 Ford Explorer and owning a 2004 Honda S2000 as my 'fun' car. Took the Explorer in for a funny noise, got a $3,800 estimate and realized it was time to put the Ford out of it's misery. The Honda wasn't going to cut it for daily stuff and I still wanted either a station wagon or an SUV, but was really tired of the 15 mpg that the Ford got. Looked at the Outback and the Escape, but was blown away by the CX-5. Without repeating what everyone else has said, I'll leave you with this: The CX-5 AWD with the 2.5 liter Skyactiv engine is 90% of the utility of the Explorer and 95% of the fun of driving the Honda. I love this SUV/car/CUV vehicle!

Have had this car for 3000 miles in 3 months. Happy with my choice so far. I am 6'-2" and I have two toddlers. My wife is already driving a minivan. So, i was looking for a car that can fit the whole family occasionally, yet compact enough to fit the short street curb between driveways in san francisco, versatile, two car seats, good looking, satisfying to drive, sit high, around $22,000 (out of the door), good mpg for my long commute and respected. I have found all these in my new cx-5. I was not considering mazda. But then, i got a chance to drive a mazda3 rental with a skyactiv engine. I re-discovered the driving experience I loved so much with my old BMW 3 series. ============ Update: 26,000 miles, 3.5 years. Still love it.

Overall, I have to say that I am really pleased with the 2014 Mazda CX-5 GT with Tech package. I feel like it was a great value and upgrade from our previously owned Jeep Compass. The ride can be a little stiff on bumpy city road surfaces, but feels great at highways. The handling is fantastic and sport-like. It feels like it handles more like a sedan than an SUV. We broke in our CX-5 by taking up to the mountains right off the lot, and it handled great up the hills (plenty of power). I've seen many comments about road noise, and this vehicle was far quieter than others in its class that I test drove. It's a little loud at start up, but that is the rapid engine heating system.

I am still impressed at the power in the 2.5 liter 4 cylinder engine. Great pickup and can do anything I ask it to do on the road. Ride is firm but comfortable, the steering is responsive, the 9 speaker Bose system sounds great and it much better than on my old Mazda 626 ES. The mileage so far as I have recorded is hanging around 28 MPG. Wonderful. The rear camera seems to be a little less dependable than I had hoped. I purchase additional warranty to 84 mo/100,000 miles , beyond Mazda's 36 mo/36,000 mile

I just bought a CX-5 Touring with the bose/moonroof upgrade and love it! I spent months researching and couldn't seem to find a crossover that had everything on my wishlist and still managed to have good gas mileage. It was love at first sight when I found this car! If I had to be picky, I would love to get a little more bass from the car stereo, and the seats could be just a little bit more comfortable but this car really is the total package at an affordable price.

After shopping around I decided to buy the 2014 CX-5 Sport/ 6A. This was my first non-American car. I love the car and it has every thing I wanted as standard equip. BUT the car has 4,200 miles and when you sit at a light, trans in gear, engine at idle the car will suddenly lurch forward. It's happened three times. At first I thought I got re-ended, not so. Very dangerous and it could happen at anytime. I believe the trans lock-up converter engages for a split second. I'm trading it in. It's only a matter of time before the trans goes totally bad.

The car has a mix of good and bad features. Not a bad car overall, but probably not the best SUV in this category on the road (at least for me). It really depends upon what you value in a car. If you value exterior styling, good gas mileage, and a decent engine you will be happy with this purchase. If you value technology, ride quality, and comfort (interior components) you will likely be happier with the CRV or Escape. Update: I have had several costly repairs in the last 3 years of ownership. The first repair was for chipping and peeling paint on the front of the vehicle. Paint is actually peeling off around the front borders in large patches and bubbling up elsewhere. I had to pay a dealer to fix this (not cheap!) and guess what, it's doing the same thing again. The second major repair was the need to replace rusted out rotors. Let me be clear, the break pads were fine and had over half the pad intact. Apparently this is a common finding on the CX5. Mine rusted severely on a garage kept vehicle with less than 3 yrs ownership and 40,000 miles. Expect to pay between $400-500 per axle. And rusted body parts and peeling paint are not covered by the manufacturers warranty or the extended warranty I purchased.

Have owned this car for two months now. Stereo is awful, cabin noise is horrible, it's also very sluggish. The only thing going for it is the looks. Now I'm told the heated seats only work in 63/68 degree temp!!! This was the reason why I bought leather seating. The backup camera doesn't beep when in reverse. I wish I would have chosen the Nissan Rouge instead. The biggest disappointment is the gas mileage, I'm getting about 22mpg, not the 28 suggested!!!!

Recently purchased a 2014 CX-5 Sport AWD, as we were looking to get into the vehicle on a tight budget. So far so good. Love the ride and handling. I am surprised so many have commented that the 2.0 L engine is underpowered; it is not. Not by a long shot. Test drove the 2.5 L and 2.0 L and found that the 2.0 L was plenty punchy to get up to speed on the freeway without too much engine groan. This is coming from someone who has driven an overpowered V6 Rav4 for six years. Its lower cost and better MPG make the 2.0 L a good choice for many. Just disappointed the Sport is not trimmed out better. Will find out how reliable the vehicle is.

I wanted to get the wife in a larger and higher vehicle due to crazy traffic in Dallas,TX(drives a civic). I was very impressed with how much it drives like a car in that there is virtually no body lean. We wanted a SUV that you could get good amenities without having leather and this was it. The acceleration is very good when you want to speed up to get around someone. My wife initially liked the CRV more as you can see better out of it but you need to drive the car for the day and get used to the blindspot mirrors and once she was used to them it was hands down a much better driving experience than the CRV. I felt that in a year or so the CRV would be ho-hum compared to the CX5.

I was looking for a new vehicle to use for work. My wish list included 1. Plenty of room in back for sales materials 2. Combined EPA mileage of at least 27.5 mpg (company requirement to get an extra $100/month in car allowance) 3. Manual transmission 4. Sporty handling & fun to drive. I researched a LOT of vehicles, and the CX-5 was the only one I found that met all of my needs. I have already put over 10k miles on it in 3 months. Fuel economy in mostly highway driving has been over 30mpg. I drive around 78mph on the interstate. In 6th gear the rpms are 3200 at this speed. It would get even better mileage at 60-65mph. So far it has performed flawlessly. I'm very happy with my choice!

Before buying, I researched and test-drove 3 cars in this class: CR-V, RAV4, and CX-5. To me, there was no competition in the test-drive that matched the CX-5. Not even close. After that drive, I knew a CX-5 would be my next car. It was the most responsive, had the most strength entering freeway, and had the best overall driving experience. A big complaint I have read with the CX-5 was the road noise/firmness of ride. After test driving all 3, I didn't really notice a significant difference in any of the ones. They were all relatively loud. I think the road noise is just a fault of cars in this class.

I have a long commute, need a nice ride and good MPG - drove everything in the class - CRV (loud), new RAV4 (ugly int), Sportage (poor ride), Escape (ugly in/out), Equinox (outdated), Compass and Rogue (CVT), they all had little warts that became glaring weaknesses after driving the Mazda. I have a sound meter, it's tied for quietest at 75 mph, fuel economy is unmatched looking at real world results, no CVT (noise, ugh), best handling, great seats, great dash, its roomy - I'm 6'2" and never feel cramped in the CX5. Others have a little more cargo space, or a touch more rear seat room, but none have the complete package like the Mazda. Averaging 28.6 mpg in mixed driving after 3,000 miles.

Bottom Line Up Front: I bought my 2014 Soul Red Metallic Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring at the end of May and couldn't be happier with it! It looks great, drives wonderfully and is exceeding the advertised MPG ratings. We looked at the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Ford Escape, Subaru Outback and Forester as well as the Mazda CX-5. Test drove them all several times. Comparing the safety ratings, fuel economy, cargo capacity, etc. the cars all come out fairly similarly. In my opinion, the main differentials were looks and driving style. The CX-5 is sleeker and much more fun to drive. It felt much more nimble and agile than the others and now it's in my garage. Update: Had the CX-5 for three years now. No issues and still fun to drive!! I average around 28-31 MPG with a mix of in-town and highway driving. Love the Bose sound system.

The perfect car if your criteria is: 1) Drives like a small BMW sedan, 2) Carries camping gear, bikes and kayaks down bad dirt roads to your favorite primitive campground. For an SUV it is high on utility and it is the first SUV where the S truly means sports sedan-like performance. However, it is not the perfect car if your criteria includes: 1) Tomb-quiet interior under all road conditions and speeds, 2) Zero intrusion of road-feel of any kind through the brakes, steering or suspension or 3) Extended off-road terrain crawling. The exterior is sleek, muscular and emotive without being overdone with chrome bits and disjointed angles. 19" wheels are handsome. The interior is subdued and elegant rather than flashy -– like an Italian suit. Really rewarding to drive quickly. Great steering. Great chassis dynamics. Great manual shifting of 6 speed automatic. Good torque from 2500 rpm up. Comfortable seats with lots of side bolster. Original Toyo tires were fantastic, but 2 sets each lasted 17000 miles (4 tires = $1400) - ugh. Pirelli Cinturatos ($900 a set) are as good (except for wet) and are wearing much better. Virtually perfect now that the iPod connection problem has been fixed by the manufacturer.

I own a 2014 Touring. The new engine is a big improvement over the 2013 - smooth with good power. Fit and finish are excellent with comfortable cloth seats. Problems noted take a lot away from this car: the door ledge is at a right angle rather than rounded like most vehicles and is not well-padded making it extremely uncomfortable to rest left arm while driving. Similarly, the center console/armrest is too low and not well-padded, making resting your right arm/elbow difficult. The base stereo speakers are awful - much worse than stock speakers on other cars I've owned. The projector headlights bounce far more than other cars and are distracting. CX-5 is great looking but needs work.

I've bought my 2013 CX-5 in 2012. So I have 13 months on the car now. I drive 5 days a week 60 miles round trip and average 30 mpg. I drive half city and half highway. I wanted a vehicle that saved me money on gas and had the height I needed to drive on the Houston roads when it rains and floods. It has made me feel very safe with the sensors in the side mirrors and I truly believe all car makers should make this feature a standard feature on all makes and models in the future. This has saved me on a daily basis from running infront of other cars when I could not see them and it also alerts me when another car is near by. I love the fact it has 6 airbags. Great car, easy handling.

Beware of Road Noise

The noise appears to be coming out of the rear wheel well area. I spend quite a bit of time on the Interstates for my job and the noise is constant. Friends say "just turn up the radio", but that’s not a solution. Both Consumer Reports and Popular Mechanics magazines have made it a point in their reviews to mention the "noise issue", wish I had read them first. The decision to purchase was based on my need to improve fuel economy, the looks and how the vehicle physically drove. (all of these are great) But I have regretted my purchase since the 1st road trip. Either a financial loss is taken by trading / selling it or I do something about it.

I just hit 5K miles and overall I'm very pleased with this vehicle. It handles very well, gets good gas milage (25 mpg in mixed city driving on regular octane) and has a very versatile interior. It compares favorably to my wife's Subaru Outback (better handling, more versatile interior due to 40-20-40 2nd seat) and to my former Audi Q5 (which is more luxurious and heavier built but at the expense of mpg & $15K more in price). My only concerns are excessive road/engine noise, replacement part availability, and bluetooth/audio performance.

Got our CX-5 a week and a half ago. We had a Honda Civic prior to the Mazda, and wanted a car that didn't require Vaseline-ing myself to get in and out of. This car meets that requirement and much more. I agree with all of the 5 star reviews for comfort, power, gas mileage, safety, fit and finish, good price, and fun to drive as a bonus. Just like many others, I did my homework, checked out the competition. The CX-5 was the favorite pick. Drove the Rogue SV and was disappointed in the cheap look of the interior, plus the ride was mushy. Considered the CR-V, but Honda's don't live up to the mileage ratings, besides being kind of bland.

I looked at most of the CUV in this catregory and test drove them all (and rented a few while on business) I even looked at a couple of hybrids (C-Max and Prius V). I have owned a lot of Hondas over the years and thought I would buy the CRV but I was disappointed Honda did not move to a 6 speed transmission in the last update and just stretched the 5 speed gears to get better gas mileage. I decided on the Mazda and could not be happier. The ride is definitely on the sporty side (stiffer than most) but fun to drive. The MPG are truly outstanding and the Mazda looks more expensive then it actually is.

Looks great, easily the best looking CUV in the market right now. I test drove a GT AWD, Touring AWD, Sport FWD and AWD. The Sport models felt more agile and responsive. Consequently, I chose a Sport AWD that sat in the parking lot unnoticed (2 miles on the odometer). The lack of power really only becomes apparent on the highway. The engine needs to be revved a bit more to squeeze all the available power. But it does it so smoothly, downshifts quickly, puts a smile on my face each time I hit the gas pedal!

I spent 1 1/2 years researching small SUVs and finally decided to purchase a Mazda CX 5, AWD Grand Touring. I now have just over 1400 miles and can honestly say it's all the car the manufacturer claims it is. It's responsive, very comfortable, and good fun to drive. It also has good ground clearance (important for me) and standard blind-spot monitoring (a real plus). My gas mileage is outstanding for a car of this type: 37 mpg (highway), gas tank 1/4 full and 34.5 mpg (highway), gas tank 4/4 full. In the city I get between 27-28 mpg. And these are real numbers not EPA estimates! If you're in the market for a new small SUV you can't go wrong with this car!

I purchased a CX5 after spending 3 months looking and waiting for the new RAV4. I actually purchased a RAV4 but waited 2 month for a FWD in the northeast before giving up. I always liked the look of the CX5 exterior better but was really drawn to the passenger view of the interior on the RAV4. The 2013 RAV4 XLE would have cost me about $2.5K less than the 2014 CX5 Touring with Sunroof and a few extras that are standard in the RAV4 (excise tax larger). I would have got the Grand Touring but did not want leather or the low profile tires. The CRV was to boring and was not that impressed with the rest of the competition although some can be found with better prices. To many angles in the escape and I found them to be expensive with options. From a driving perspective the CX5 was always better and the gas mileage is impressive on the 120-mile ride home from the dealer it averaged 34.7 at 65-70 mph on the computer and is still above 30. The car looks like it’s a BMW except it looks more aggressive. The seats are comfortable and the ride very smooth and quite. Like Toyota they are using long life fluids and most last over 100K. As a side note I traded a Mini cooper 40+ to the gal and would leave any of these cuv’s for dust on a windy road with 2 people inside. I also have two Toyota,s shame on Toyota for not giving customers what they want when they make it, regional bull$h$#. All the manufactures need to take their apple heads off and just make the inboard computer a fully customizable computer the owner/buyer of the vehicle can fully customized to their taste i.e. picture of your kids or dog comes up instead of their logo, vehicle status screens with temp gauge, audio screen so on and on, although both the Toyota and the CX5 are getting close. As for resell value that’s a bit like the stock market will a RAV4 build in Canada hold its value more than a CX5 built in Japan, what if gas goes to $6 a gallon and who cares if you keep it for a while because if you don’t you might as well lease. I feel this is the car to beat in this segment and I am sure Mazda will keep adding to it. Mazda try to make a profit this year as your cars are no cheaper than the compertition.

Had mine for 6000 miles, MAZDA! Never again. CX5 is underpowered; the transmission makes it worse. Slow and gear confused at 20-40 MPH, especially in the hills. Must manually shift this slug or nail gas in hills or entering hyway. Don't pass; it dies for a whole second before accelerating. 25 MPG at best. Seat adjuster is awful, nav is cumbersome, the road noise makes it hard to talk at 50 MPH and above, insulation is not there, crank the air and leave it, or drive an oven. Second highest model has no tail lift gate light; WHAT! Shifter easy to knock out of gear/ over to manual. rear wiper grinds. cannot see out the right side well. can't see the gages. no lights on window controls.

I have had my CX5 for 2+ months and driven 2200 miles in Dallas metroplex. It has been great so far with no surprises. Comfortable ride and no squeaks or any mechanical issues. Gas mileage for this FWD has been 27 mpg in mostly city driving with a very light foot and a constant eye on the current mpg reading. The USB port in the console charges phones at a slow rate since it has medium amp. The rear seats don't recline so not very comfortable for adults. Now that I am used to backup camera and blind spot monitoring, I need to be careful when driving wife's car without these aids. The gas tank is 15 gallons but I could fill only 12.2 gallons when range left was 5 miles.

I was looking very hard for a few months at the 2013 RAV4 and the Honda CRV. Something got my attention, though, with the Mazda CX-5, and I ended up buying the 2014 Grand Touring version, and I love the choice I made. Others have mentioned a higher than usual amount of road noise, but I don’t notice it, and you have to compromise something (in this case, heavier and thicker materials) to get such good gas mileage. All in all, it feels good to think that you got more car than you thought you could for the money spent, with features you didn’t think you could get, and that it’s such a strong performer in the safety and reliability department. One very happy Mazda owner here, so far.

Nice car. Love the back-up camera and blind spot warning system. However, the road noise is excessive. It came with Yokohama Geoearth tires. Very noisy. At the behest of my tire dealer I changed to Michelin Defenders. Touted as the quietest tires available. Don't believe it. The road noise reduction was not noticeable. I just wasted lots of money. Told him so. He was not inclined to change his advice. Didn't expect him to do so. It would seem the Japanese engineers could address this road noise problem as the GM engineers have. I think, in retrospect, I should have bought an Encore. So far, CX-5 Touring is reliable.

I bought my mazda cx5 2014 GT/Tech package a month ago and i'm loving it, Fun to drive, performance wise, more than enough power to handle any terrain,and it handles absolutely great...only issue that i have is road noise and cup holder is awkward...but they were just minor issues...

I spent the better part of 2 years researching small SUV's. I keep my vehicles for a decade or more, so wanted to get it right. I ultimately decided upon the 2014 Mazda CX 5 Grand Touring (AWD) and I am extremely pleased. My gas mileage has been very good (31 highway/27.5 city) and will likely improve as the weather warms and the engine "breaks in". It also handles well, is very comfortable, and includes "blind-spot monitoring" as a standard feature! It's great fun to drive and a great value. I couldn't be happier with my choice!

After test driving the Kia, Honda, Ford, Chevy Equinox the CX5 made it quickly to the top of my purchase list. It offered the style, comfort, more creature comforts and most importantly price. This vehicle is great handling and a pleasure to drive. I simply love this vehicle. I traded my CRZ hybrid for Mazda so the gas mileage, regardless of what i bought, would never exceed my lil hybrid, but this is definitely worth the switch. I have room again!

I drove a Nissan Altima Sedan (2008, 170hp), then an Infiniti G37 Sedan (2010, 330hp). Now I just bought this 2014 CX-5 Touring AWD. I am surprised how Mazda was able to pack in terrific gas mileage in a powerful engine. The comfort in the cockpit is top notch and I love the Bluetooth Phone and Pandora integration. The blind spot indicators are awesome. Makes me feel very safe and confident. The drive smooth and comfy. Huge leg room for everyone in the car (I am 6ft tall). Overall, it is downright amazing. I don't miss my G37 anymore. :)

Bought the Touring model of the CX-5 only because it has the bigger 2.5 liter engine. The extra 30 horsepower in the Touring and Grand Touring model really make a difference when driving. The Sport model is nice, but the engine makes the vehicle just average. Mazda has a winner here in the CUV division and I would recommend this SUV to anyone over the Forde Escape or Honda CR-V that are it's main competitors. This market is competitive and Mazda has what I think is the winner when buying the bigger engine.

Went to buy a Mazda 6 and since this would be my first Mazda decided to look over the other models. Impressed with the CX-9 and the old CX-7 (looked at CPO models) I decided to look at the CX-5 that replaced the CX-7 last year. At first I was not all that impressed until I looked at the Touring model. For only $1500 more I could get a small SUV instead of a car. So, took it for a test drive and it drove exactly like the Mazda 6. This 6 had a little more pep because of the difference in weight, but this SUV drove like a car and that is when I knew I was hooked. Way to go Mazda. I hope I am driving this for the next decade.

We drove a 2013 last year did not like the weak engine. We bought this 2014 GTAWD fully loaded after we were blown away by its handling. This car is just flat fun to drive on twisty roads. It's also good on the highway too. But if you can't get into a MX-5 anymore the CX-5 is the car for you. Its an SUV Miata....

I just purchased the 2014 Mazda CX5 Grand Touring and am thoroughly impressed with everything I see. The styling is far above the other similar SUV's of Honda, Subaru, Toyota and Chevrolet. Before buying I looked at each model based on price, styling, gas mileage, specifications and all the standard features of each model. In my opinion, the Mazda came out ahead in all categories. My first tank of gas came in at 27.9 miles per gallon driving a mixture of highway and local miles. I would recommend this SUV to anyone that wants a fun vehicle to drive and still have good gas mileage.

This car was a very pleasant surprise. I was set on a Honda CRV at first and after a test drive the CX-5 was surprisingly quick and felt luxurious. Also test drove a Suburu Forester and it was below average with basic or no interior frills. Never test drove the Rav4 because of its ugly cowhide dashboard. Wasn't considering a Mazda but after looking at it, it looked rich and classy, the interior was above all the others lots of frills, but the ride was amazing very steady going around turns like a race car. Test drove a 2013 and it appeared light on HP but not the 2014 no longer an issue and was very snappy. The gas mileage is much better than my previous car a Honda CRV.

Just bought a 2014 GT AWD. The gas right now is holding steady for me at 22.8 and I've mostly done city driving so I guess that's almost true to stated MPG. I cannot believe how smooth this car drives. I feel like all the stuff that came with it made it a pretty sound deal. I test drove a 2013 against the 2014 and you can instantly tell the difference in power for not much loss in MPG. My problem is the new car smell is making sick, even on short drives. It's still cold and I'm forced to drive with all the windows done. Also, I am just hoping there are no radiation issues. Even though Hiroshima is far enough away, these cars are probably shipped with Nissans.

The 2014 really addressed what was the biggest problem with the 2013, and that's the power. The increase in power along with a couple of new electronic features for 2014 really make's one wonder if this isn't the complete package when it comes to small SUV's. There are a couple of other SUV's on the market that may be slightly more comfortable, or have a more user friendly electronic interface, but the 2014 Mazda CX-5 seems to have it all at the price. Interior materials, along with design, fit and finish are of a very high standard. The vehicle is extremely spacious for it's exterior dimensions. It has very efficient use of space for both passengers and cargo, and its looks are great!

I bought a 2014 Mazda CX-5 GT and absolutely love it. I was a big fan of the vehicle when it came out, but felt that the 2.0L engine was not powerful enough for me. When I test drove the 2.5L, I knew that this is a car for me and bought it. I am impressed with the overall quality of the interior (other cars I've owned - Audi, Lexus, Nissan, Toyota). This is one sweet SUV. Trust me, test drive this before you buy any other small SUV and compare it to what you were thinking of buying. Mazda really makes fun to drive, high-quality vehicles.
