Look for the used before yo go new. I have a family member that works for dodge and he said there is no change from the 2016 to 2017. Also minimal changes from 2014-2017. We have a 2014. Rides extremely nice, all the features take some time to get used to. It is a bit high to enter for my 3rd grader but she manages. Very ROOMY for my family (wife/daughter/self) And 2 80+lb German Shepherds. Very good with acceleration, handles like a sedan when you need it to get around obstacles. Love the xm radio and navigation features. Overall this is a SOLID vehicle that exceeded my expectation. If you have a friend, family member or Co-worker that owns why. Pick their brains and see if you can do a test drive. I was able to test drive 2012 RT, 2013-14 CITADELS, 2015 LIMITED. I was looking at the 2016 Mazda CX9, 2014-2015 Nissan Pathfinder, 2016 Honda Pilot as my other choices.

Pretty Pleased

Owned this 2014 Durango for two years and for the most part I'm pretty pleased with it. I like the automatic downshifting of transmission on hill descension. Yet, I've accidentally hit the shifting paddles and downshifted on freeway causing the RPM's to nearly blow engine. It has a lot of power for a V6 which is one reason I chose it above any others. I love the engine space to work on it if ever needed. The interior space is decent for a car in this class. There have been a couple of small repairs. The driver window had a crack inside the tinting and the entire window needed replacing. A trim grommet came out, but was easy to replace. I'm a little worried about the sunroof rubber seal beginning to pull away. It's not significant enough yet to cause a leak, but I'm watching to see what it does over time. I'm curious as to how long it will take me to replace the battery located under the passenger seat when the time comes. I do wish that Dodge would make the dash and interior pieces a lighter color...perhaps a gray or beige to keep the heat out of the vehicle. One regret, with low gas prices I want a V8. When I test drove the Hemi I noticed that it was extremely powerful and had a lot of low end torque. It was only a $4k more than the V6 which takes a bit to get moving. Also, it is a little difficult to see out of compared to my older pilot, tahoe, grand cherokee, and sequoia. I think that generally cars have less visibility with lower profile designs that the government mandated for mpg.

The Beast!

I was always a Chevy man, but found Acadia's and Traverses to be uninspiring. I gave the dodge a test drive and instantly was impressed with the vehicle. I have the V-6, but it has a distinctive exciting rumble when I push the Ignition button. The pep and the fuel economy of the V6 mated with the 8 speed is great. What I love the most is the styling. The bold front grill makes a huge statement and reminds me of body on frame SUV's of the past. The interior is clean and sleek, but has a balance of both aggressiveness in the displays and class/refinement in the controls. The sportier suspension and long wheel base give this vehicle truck like ride quality, which I find tosses the soccer mom feel many crossover SUV's have developed right out the window. My only advice to new buyers is get the V-8 if you plan on using the vehicle for towing. The V6 is rated at 3500 lbs unless you have the HD cooling package and load leveling suspension. (you can add these things easily, but the manual technically does say all vehicles without the factory tow package are limited to 3500lbs towing.) The V-8's come ready to tow and only require a hitch and harness.

Great vehicle for the family. We really like the comfort, handling, and storage of the vehicle. I really like the performance of the engine and how smooth it rides. I am a little disappointed in a couple features that I think should be standard features. I think for safety Chrysler should have the daytime running lights and the push button liftgate as standard. Overall a very stylish looking vehicle with good performance and family friendly.

I wanted to write a review because satisfied customers rarely write reviews. We have had our Durango for over 2 years and absolutely love it. We didn't get the high end package, just the lowest level that also includes the towing package. We have a 20ft Forest River RPod camper that the Durango tows easily. I just recently used it tow the camper from Nevada to Illinois and had no problems whatsoever, except for 6 inches of expected snow while towing. The surefooted AWD Durango had no troubles whatsoever. The load leveling suspension works very well and I don't even have a weight distribution hitch, just sway control. There have been a couple of reprograms of the computer that were easily handled at home when Chrysler mailed a USB to do the update yourself. No biggie, glad they are staying on top of it. Most computer programs even on your home PC need updating at least once a month. So, we have been very, very pleased with our purchase and you just can't beat the styling.

Nightmare to own, great to look at

If you buy one of these cars, DO NOT get the high-end version. The citadel trim level is plagued with problems and they just never quit. The dealerships are poorly prepared to repair the car. You will frequently leave your car with them for days only to hear that they can't find or recreate the problem - FYI, make videos with your cell phone - it helps your sanity. It won't make them recreate anything, but at least when they are telling you it doesn't do that, you can say "oh, but what would this be then..." In the first year of ownership, we wasted months between the dealership and Chrysler's Complaint line. Note that if you don't get the Chrysler complaint line involved early on, everything from the time you call them forward is a separate issue in their minds. At least 3 times in the first year, they rented us a car keeping our nice Durango for a middle of the line rental car, told us someone was flying out to look at it, waited for some part, returned the car to us, only to have it fail again! When it is working, it's a wonderful car. The rest of the time, it'll make you insane.

Total let-down. :(

This car has been plagued with issues from week one of ownership when I was left stranded in an intersection two hours from home. Over my first year it spent over 45 days at the dealer for various repairs and has one electrical concern with the audio system that not only remains, but has no apparent fix available in the foreseeable future. The sad part is that it's a really nice vehicle to drive and has some nice design touches, but between some of the dealer experiences and all of the problems I simply cannot, in good faith, recommend it.

I like this Durango more than my last

Overall, we like this vehicle. It drives great, is comfortable to ride in and bucket seats for the 2nd row are a great feature. It was recently when we noticed things we did not like. Changing a turn signal bulb is impossible. The whole front bumper needs removed in order to reach the light, it is not an easy fix as other vehicles. Nor is finding the battery. My husband needed to jump his work truck and he could not because the battery is not easily accessible. There is a blind spot for the driver on the right side between the 2nd and 3rd row seats, the head rest is in the way and the area between the 2 windows is very wide.

Should have been a great car

Great engine( when it does not smoke at start up) great everything, except for the stuff that's not great! Engine smokes at start up sometimes, dealer told me it's break in, well I'm at 5000 miles now and it still does it sometimes! Dip stick is useless, if you see oil on it, you've got too much oil in there, how dumb is that? You add 7 quarts only and ignore the dipstick. Oil usage, wow! the PCV system on the engine blows, I mean blows oil into the intake(see the blue smoke comments all over the web!) Rear suspension noise, traded a 12 year old explorer that rode quieter than this thing, harsh and loud. Stereo, has a serious bug that means the bass settings are just random numbers depending on where you have the volume set, dodge can't or won't fix it. It's a super car, that's been built so cheaply it's awful, $46k is a lot of money, only 5000 miles in I should be really happy, instead I can't wait to get rid of it, and that's a real shame.

Beautiful vehicle but I am not sure a high end Dodge is a great choice. It seems Dodge is still figuring out how to implement gadgets properly. - Gas mileage is shockingly good if you manually shift. - Acceleration on the six cylinder is not as good as I had hoped (Wife purchased the car when i was out of town). However, it is not horrible. - Tow rating is too low, now I have to buy a truck to tow the camper I want - A/C went out on summer road trip from Texas. Dealership support was unsympathetic and very poor. After multiple trips to dealerships on the trip, it was finally fixed - Equalizer settings are quirky. Turn down the base and the midrange turns up. Dodge cannot figure it out - Plastic trim on the dash near the windshield sticks up. It isn't flush. it looks ugly. Dodge replaced and the new piece is the same. Overall, i love the vehicle, but Dodge has some things to figure out. Particularly on a 48k list vehicle.

My Husband and I upgraded to the 2014 Durango R/T in November 2014. There is about 4500 miles on it so far, and we couldn't be happier with it. We were previously in a 2013 Toyota Venza, and were in the market for a 3rd rower with our 2nd child on the way. The Durango's space is definitely an increase from the Venza, and a great help when you have a 3 year old picky with leg room. This SUV gives you more bang for your buck. I was usually the first to criticize Dodge, but this SUV changed me and my Husband during the test drive. No issues with the vehicle so far.

First Dodge product, overall we love it!

My wife and I purchased this 2014 Durango R/T in Nov 2014. We absolutely love this vehicle so far. We wanted a 3 row SUV and deemed this best in class. The 3rd row is actually usable by adults unlike some competitors. We have had 1 issue so far, which is currently ongoing, the SD card reader sometimes won't recognize the card is in there and I have to do a soft reset of the Uconnect to get it to work. This has happened twice for no apparent reason. Other than that, all is good. I have mostly owned Toyota's of all kinds in my life so it takes a lot to impress me and I am impressed so far. If this vehicle remains reliable in the long run, I will consider another Dodge again.

Not impressed...

We bought our Durango at the end of November. A week later the transmission cooler lines popped off while I was 2 hours from home leaving me stranded in an intersection. It took almost 2 weeks to get the car back at which time we found the underside still covered in ATF! Since then we have had problems with the following: alignment off, trash in paint, sunroof misadjusted, keyless entry memory inop, autoclimate malfunctions, audio system malfunctions and now the left rear window will not raise back up and appears to be off track. This is the worst "new car" that I have ever bought. We had planned to keep it for at least 6 years, but not too sure that will happen. Extremely disappointed!!!

I had 1500 miles when I noticed every time it was started it would leave me engulfed in a cloud of blue smoke. Took back to dealer and they replaced all the valves. Next day, same issue with the smoke. Following week 2 new heads we installed. Finally, it doesn't smoke. Customer Care stated that the oil dip stick is too short for the hemi and the wrong oil pans have been installed but NO recall will follow. Found the same issue for others on the Dodge forum website. I was lucky that my dealer replaced the heads. More buyers are not as lucky, Dodge tells them there is NO problems. Have lost all faith in the Dodge line. BEWARE HEMI OWNERS!!

I traded in a 2012 Suburban for my 2014 Durango because of MPG. I bought it in April of 2014. When I hit about 19000 miles my car wouldn't allow me to go into gear. I took it to the dealership and they kept it for 2 days. Got it back and a week later it did the same thing. They kept it 3 days. Got it back and a week later same thing. I was going out of town and needed it so didn't take it back till I got back. It has now been there for an entire month. I had to get a new transmission in a new car. The dealership even told me that after the 2nd time, but Chrysler made them do stuff in order to try to fix it. I'm done with Dodge, back to a big SUV for me.

June 2015 Update: 23,000 miles, no issues at all. I'm still really happy with the car! Previous review: My first car was a '65 Mustang which I bought in 1969. Since then, I have owned a lot of automobiles including Lincoln MKX, Lexus RX 350, Ford Explorer and Nissan Murano SUVs. I've owned my 2014 Durango Citadel (with 5.7L Hemi) for 14 months now and it is hands down my favorite. It gives a solid yet comfortable ride both highway and city. The seating is comfortable and spacious...even the third row handles 6 footers no problems. Vehicle utility is outstanding. It is very stylish - in and out - without being gaudy and is and well apportioned. All the small appurtenances and design features really add value to the overall experience. It is very simply a pleasure to drive.

I bought this vehicle for my wife solely for the comfortable seats. Out of all the vehicles we tried out the Durango was the most configurable by far. We now have 22k miles on this car and I still can't believe how good it drives. There has only been 1 issue and that was a loose bolt on the steering shaft that caused some play in the steering. Quickly about me, I'm a little pickier than most when it comes to vehicle quirks. I've done all the oil changes myself on this car to this point and do like the unique filters this engine uses. This is easily one of the best vehicles I've ever driven. I'd put it in the realm of an Audi or the new Cadillac though not as nice of an interior obviously

First off, like all the other reviews, I was surprised how good this vehicle is. We are a family of 5 and use it for daily driving, winter trips to the Sierras, and towing a 5000 lb boat up to a mountain lake. Dropping around 400 lbs of tongue weight on the hitch, it sags only 1.5 inches at the center of the rear wheel arch. The V-8 has plenty of torque and the 8 speed transmission is just amazing. Elegant power-on downshifts without the usual jerking at the hitch. Utterly planted and stable while cruising, as good as my previous Denali XL. No bouncing and swaying typical of an overstressed tow vehicle. Backup camera is awesome for hitching and it even has a transmission temp gauge.

I recently bought a 2014 Dodge Durango R/T. Have only put about 500 miles on it, but I thought I would share some impressions and minor gripes. Overall, I love this car and am very happy with it. I looked at the Highlander, Traverse, and to a lesser extent the Pilot, Pathfinder, Explorer, Acadia, Santa Fe, and Mazda CX9. Things that mattered to me were 3d row seating and towing, since I would like to get (but have not yet gotten) a boat. ;-) The Durango is far and away the class leader w/ tow capacity. *UPDATE @ 55,000 MILES* I still love this vehicle every but as much as the day I bought it. This summer, I towed a camper trailer that probably weighed 6000lbs+ from Missouri to Utah and back. The Durango R/T hardly broke a sweat. Even with two kids, the interior (black leather) has held up so well some people still ask me if the car is new. I continue to love the UConnect interface, dashboard controls, and EVIC. I did get a third-party seat ventilator because I didn't have the A/C seat option. With a dark vehicle w/ black leather interior, I found that to be kind of essential in the summer months. This guy does drink gas, though. I can get 22/23 mpg on the highway on long hauls in eco mode, but with city driving (including stops, etc.) I am probably getting only 12/13. 16mpg or so might be my overall mix. Not great, but totally worth it for the power.

Edmunds kept emailing me asking for an updated review. Here it is. The 2014 Durango is a great vehicle. I have two of them. Mine (SXT), 50,000 miles has NEVER needed any maintenance other than oil changes. My wife's (Rallye pkg or something like that) 60,000 miles has been to Dodge once for something minor (Cruise Control stopped working-was covered by warranty). Also the handle on the floor to the storage area behind the third row of seats broke off on hers. But, no real repair for her either. The bottom line with these cars is they are very nice for the price. I have friend of mine with Audi SUVs, Mercedes SUVs, Acura SUVs, and whatever. They are nice cars too but they certainly do not have a better ride than my Durango. And I know this is a small sample but the Mercedes lives in the shop and the Acura is a rattle trap. The Audi seems nice but it cost as much as me and my wife's Durangos put together and I don't see any value in that. The main things I like about these vehicles is great ride, they ain't everywhere you look, great gas mileage for a 3 row SUV without sacrificing power, big gas tank - you go forever 500 miles on a tank, and great value for the price. Original Review Below from a couple of years ago. I was born in the 60's and grew up in the 70's when Chrysler didn't exactly have the best reputation among auto makers. I discovered the 2014 Durango because I use one very frequently for the company I work for. I couldn't believe how quiet and smooth the ride is. I used to joke around about the Durango being as smooth as a Mercedes. Then, I found out it shares the same platform as the Mercedes GL series. So, when my wife needed another vehicle I decided to get her a Durango. She picked out a 2014 Rallye package and loves it. The kids love it. The car is so quiet and smooth. The gas mileage is great. After 8000 miles we average about 22mpg. No maintenance issues.

But for me the clincher is the road dynamics - taut handling and the Hemi that kicks in at all the right moments brings a smile every time. I do know its not a mid-engine exotic (at 5300 lbs) but for a domesticated male this is superbly satisfying! Do not take my word for it - test drive it if you can find one (R/T).

I've had this Durango Limited AWD model for 2 months and 3000 miles. I compared to Highlander, Pathfinder, and Acadia, but $6500 in incentives lured me to the Durango. Love the styling of the back of the SUV, not so crazy about the usual Dodge look of the front. Have had issues with the Tire Pressure Monitoring system that took 3 trips to the dealership to resolve (software). Overall MPG is 24, which is great for a car this size. Has a smooth but firm ride. The electronic interfaces in the car are great. Lots of nice interior lighting touches. Beware CD player is an option and is placed in the center console, not the dash. The more I drive it, the more I like it. Just hope it's reliable.

I bought my Durango in February of 2014. Like the previous reviewer mentioned, it was my dream machine too. I really enjoyed driving it. My only criticism was that the inside storage capacity is compromised by having a DVD player in the compartment between the two front seats. However, soon after, I noticed that during hard acceleration, my RPMs were going up without the car actually accelerating. Took it to the dealer, and was told that the steering column is defected, and that can affect the transmission, as well as abs breaks, which could make the car dangerous to drive. It has been 5 business days since they ordered a part, and the part is still on backorder

Well, after looking at all the other three-row SUVs out there, and driving a bunch of them, my wife fell head over heels for the styling and features of the Durango Citadel. It was thousands cheaper then the competing vehicles from Buick and GMC, while driving better IMHO, plus, the interior quality as well as the feature ease and understanding of the intuitive controls was the best in class in our view. Our black granite pearl with chrome Durango turns heads everywhere, and with it's glare in front and racetrack taillights out back, the first night we had it, our son remarked, "Lord Vader, your ship is here". The ride and drive is stunningly solid and quiet. LOVE IT!

My wife and I are still shocked we are driving a Durango. Wife traded her 2008 Infiniti QX56 which she loved but it had a lot of miles on it so it was time for something new/newer. Cross-shopped QX56, QX60, Pathfinder, Acadia, Enclave, MDX, Explorer. Stumbled upon Durango Citadel model and was shocked. The interior quality and tech options are amazing and the exterior is unique as well. Drives so nice and smooth. Ton of looks by people trying to figure out what it is as there are not many on the road. If they sold under Jeep as Extended Grand Cherokee they would sell a ton as it is built on same platform along with Mercedes GL SUV. Ok though as I like our "secret". Test drive one!

I can't believe I'm driving a Dodge

Been in the market for a 3 row SUV for over a year. I waited for the new Chevy Tahoe to come out - and it is really nice but very expensive. Read great reviews on the Durango, test drove it and thought it was the best bang for your buck. The styling is aggressive and the inside is refined. Looked at the GMC Acadia as well and it was just "ok" - the wow factor was not there. The Durango has it. I put reliability at 5, but to be honest I have not had it long enough to really rate it - I guess I'm hoping it will be a 5.

Sporty and Practical all in one!

After about a year of vehicle research we decided on The 2014 Dodge Durango R/T AWD. I could not be happier with the decision. The Durango is everything anyone could need. My family of four rides very comfortably anywhere we go. The kids love the dual entertainment screens in second row. I love my Alpine sound system, and my husband loves the hemi. I love that we are able to tow a boat, drive safely in the snow, and take long trips comfortably. The gas mileage isn't the best, but what would you expect with the Hemi?

Nothing more satisfying than American muscle

My lease of a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd was expiring and since my family was expanding, I required third row seating. I was going to return to a European nameplate such as GL550, but since I had had no problems with my Jeep, I had to consider the Durango. While the Durango is not as luxurious as a Mercedes or Audi, one still gets good value for the money. My RT AWD is fully loaded (Tech Pkg, Rear DVD, etc) and costs significantly less. The RT sits a little lower than a comparable Citadel and feels firmer when on the road and while going through turns. Its very smooth on the fwy with minimal road noise and the 8 speed shifts effortlessly.

No idea I would ever puchase a Dodge..but this SUV is incredible

Been buying Japanese cars for decades - and when the wife's Honda Pilot was ready to be traded in - assumed we would just go with a Pilot. Unfortunately the Pilot's reviews kept talking about the EVO vibration that quite honestly was a deal killer for me - not to mention it is due for a refresh. When looking for 3 row SUV's, we tried a few of them - GMC Acadia, Nissan Pathfinder, Toyota Highlander and the Pilot. None of them came close in terms of looks, styling, functionality and muscle. Of course I am concerned about the long term reliability, but this model seems to have been greatly improved since being introduced, and reliability has been decent with the 2011 and up models.

Love it! It is fun to dive rides nice looks very nice inside & out totally different from the older version. the captains seats in the second row are great comfort. The navigation is a nice touch with a big screen! stereo system is awsome don't need to add extra to it. the only bad thing I can say about this is the fuel miliage but what do you expect with a HEMI! I love it.

Probably one of the best SUV's out there right now. I bought my wife a bare bones SXT with upgraded 8.4 touchscreen and heated seats/steering wheel. She loves it and won't let me drive everywhere anymore. Comes nicely loaded and doesn't feel cheap even in the base SXT trim. If fact you have to hunt for any options it is missing. No one can tell it isn't a Citadel model. The 3.6 has the perfect balance of power and economy. Honestly I don't think the hemi is needed unless you plan on towing with it. It has a useable 3rd row. It comes down the same assembly line as the Jeep Grand Cherokee that has won all the best quality build awards. Also, it is on the Consumer Reports Recommended list.

Loving It!!! (so far)

I recently bought the 2014 Dodge Durango after 8 months of researching it. Wanted the R/t but I ended up purchasing the Limited Trim level which to my surprise had a Hemi! I believe that the Limited trim level with the Hemi is a great value for all the features you get, almost like having a Citadel Minus extra chrome and rain sensing wipers but at a much cheaper price! I had to get used to the gas mileage which is to be expected with a V-8. The Uconnect is awesome, though I had some issues with the bluetooth pairing, keeping my phone paired. This is largely due to the software being capatible with iOS 6 and not 7 (apple users). Updates are to come for that. Other than that I love It!
