A comfortable SUV

We bought the Nissan Rogue for two reasons: Very high safety and reliability ratings (why buy a car that doesn't have these?) and exceptionally comfortable. seats. Our other SUV is a Honda CRV, which is a bit bigger, and we needed the size for family trips. The two cars were equal in safety and reliability, but the CRV had a slight edge in many small convenience areas, which made us willing to live with its excruciatingly uncomfortable seats. (Really, Honda, get with it on seating. The Internet agrees that Honda cars have been uncomfortable for ages.) Anyway, the Rogue has seating like a dream, with proper support for your lower back. Plus, it includes variable speeds for the intermittent wipers, which the Honda (inexplicably) lacks. We're on our third tank of gas with this new vehicle, and pushing 30mpg. To improve this vehicle Nissan could shrink or eliminate the front row console, which leaves you with no where to put a purse, and offer some interior colors other than gray/black, but overall, we love it. I have very long legs, and there's plenty of leg room.

Had 2 cars - very poorly made. Had to replace axle in both cars at less than 45K miles. I would never buy a Nissan again! car looks and feels cheap, doesn't drive that great either. Feels like an older car not a new car. If you want a better car that drives better please go for a Hunday and save your money in the long run.

Never leave the keys in the ignition, you will be locked out of the car! I hope this to is a glitch particular to my vehicle though, since no car should auto lock with the keys in the ignition, but beware. My dealership, of course, says nothing is wrong with it, go figure. Blind spots are larger than I would like. The CVT transmission is NOT loud! The gas mileage is great for an AWD vehicle, and my tires are not wearing out due to that, which I had always believed would be the case. Storage of personal items interior is awkward, but the rear storage and split back seat is very convenient. I live in Maine, and have always driven with studded snow tires in winter months. Since I bought this car two years ago, with only average tires (Goodyear Destination) from the dealer, I have felt more than safe and have been in control of the vehicle at every moment. Nissan in general is a top choice for your money, this is my third. The cost of this certified pre-owned car included a 100,000 mile bumper-to-bumper from the dealer on top of the factory warranty, so I am confident you can get one for much less than I did.

Accelerated on it own. Could have killed someone or have been killed. Noticed early on that if I left in running in the driveway it would accelerate while in park. Just thought it was a idiosyncracy of the car. What really got me is the first thing Nissan asked was how OLD was the driver. Then within a few hours after reporting the incident I got a call from a Nissan salesman suggesting I by a new car. How tacky. We were still in shock that this happened.

While driving from maryland to Hershey PA, after two hours of highway driving the Rogue tried to stall out and was sluggish off the line - like it was not getting gas. While driving from maryland ri the outerbanks NC. the Rogue was having trouble keeping up with traffic. After 3 hours of highway driving the car could not keep speed, when we stopped to get food at the first light it barely moved after stopping! After lunch it was back to normal and fine but this is two times in same summer. Currently has 89k miles.

2013 Rogue, Vin ….638061 Transmission failed at 62,135 miles. Overheated. No prior problems or repairs. Dealership recommendation is replace transmission and add an transmission cooler. Sold in Georgia operated in Georgia and needs a transmission cooler to continue to operate in Georgia?! Escalated to Nissan regional but will not cover it. Nissan has had an endemic problem with prior year model across multiple models that is clearly continuing. I have owned multiple Nissan products for close to 30-years that I have happy with, but no more. Lifetime customer lost. WILL NOT BUY OR RECOMMEND NISSAN!!

I purchased a pre-owned 2013 Nissan Rouge S eight months ago, the car now has 79k miles on it and the transmission has issues...after driving the car for an hour when i get to a stop sign or intersection, the car does not accelerate no matter how hard i hit the gas pedal...supposedly it goes to a fail safe mode. The car makes loud whining noise on a steep hill, the car kicks shifting from 1st to 2nd gear...I almost got into an accident yesterday, because when the light turned green and i tried to move, the car wasn't moving, the car behind me hit the breaks so hard and started honking and cussing me for not moving...not my fault. I've contacted the consumer affairs, waiting for their specialist's phone call. The car is out of warranty and my VIN does not fall under the extended warrantly. I took the car to an authorized nissan service center and they confirmed the issue is the cvt tranny. It's my first time owning a nissan and i am very disappointed. I cannot afford to pay 5k to replace the tranny, this is the cost according to nissan service center. Does it have to take someone to get in an accident, a lawsuit for nissan to get its act together????? whoever has the same CVT issues, please keep us posted. Thanks,

Don't take a trip more than an hour and a half fro

Transmission is terrible. The car will not exceed 60 mph after driving it for more than an hour and a half, and good luck going anywhere that you may encounter a slight hill or mountain. IT WILL NOT GO ROGUE!

If you are nervous about blind spots, don't buy this car! You will have to rely on only your mirrors which scares the bageebies out of me! You can't see out the back! Seems like it whizzes thru the gas and I barley go anywhere. Love the stick shift and the fact that you can pull the seat forward the old fashioned way under the seat and that's about it. It's tight and small in the front, okay in back. Like the back-up video and it is fun to drive but I did not test drive it on the freeway and wish I had now because it already doesn't seem to have that much power. Wish to God I'd gotten a 6 cylinder. Might be bringing this one back. Inside ceiling feels like cheap egg carton. Whole thing feels cheap to me compared to my old Dodge Minivan. Nissan might be reliable but it feels dirt cheap. Not sure what to do with it now. The paint job is horrible and easily scratched.

Only thing I like about my Rogue is it's a Nissan!

I have a 2013 Nissan Rogue with a CVT. Nov 2015 I had to leave Seattle last minute (g'son hit by car) and head to Phoenix. My 14 yr old daughter and I got into California and were going thru mountains/steep grades, also hot outside. All of a sudden my Rogue started losing speed and got slower and slower...very scary and dangerous as cars were coming behind us so fast and so many it took me 3-4 mins to get over to the side of the road to get off. My car was dropping speed rapidly and I was terrified. When I finally pulled off the exit and came to the stop sign my car died. I started crying. :( Cars were honking and going around us. After about 5 mins it started up (barely...by the grace of GOD) and I was able to get off the road and pull into a car dealership which was the first place to stop. It was a Sunday. Everything closed including car rentals. I sat there for over an hour with my daughter crying. She was much more logical and practical then myself in the situation. :) I pulled it together and we got something to eat and came back to the car. She pulled out the owner's manual and it read if traveling in hot weather and going over mountains (which we were), the CVT/car automatically shuts down so it doesn't overheat and burn up. Really??? Why was I not told that? I just knew the transmission was shot. We checked the engine oil and water in radiator. All fine. I started the car back up and with my FAITH got back on I-5. We did not have any more problems all the way there nor back. However, I have an appt tomorrow to take it into Nissan to have the transmission checked as I have a 60,000 mi/6yr warranty and I'm at 58,000 miles now. I now the transmission is caput. I can tell. It's sluggish and sometimes sounds like it stays in one gear and doesn't want to shift up w/speed. TBH, there's not much I like about my Nissan Rogue except for it's a Nissan and they have a great reputation. It even says you can't drive steep grades for more than 6 miles??? Really? How can you travel or go anywhere if there's mountains for more than 6 miles because that's almost everywhere I live on the west coast. It's absurd. What to do? What to do? :(

The Transmission Should Be Trashed

On a cold winter trip, the 2013 Rogue had only 56,000 miles on it, the engine light went on. The car had been super sluggish going up hills..I thought it was the 3 suitcases bogging it down. It had been sluggish on a previous trip also. I had read reviews that the car was noisy, just thought it wasn't a well made car. I was right. Made it 142 miles to the nearest Nissan dealer. Transmission was shot. They replaced the tranny, radiator and added an external cooling system for the transmission. Nissan already has a fix-it kit for the transmission. There is a problem with the design of the transmission. It gets too hot and burns up the fluid and then the transmission. No steep grades for more than 6 miles I've read. Really? How can you go anywhere? So if your car is sluggish, it's the transmission. The earlier models, Nissan changed the warranty to 100,000 miles but for the 2013, it's only 60,000 mile warranty.

In one word: Practical

This is my first SUV, and is also my first CVT transmission vehicle. Coming from a V8 engine with automatic trans, it took a little time getting used to the gearless shifting and lack of instant pick-up. However, I'm a huge fan now. The fuel savings really adds up! It drives just as well now that I've gotten the feel of how to accelerate smoothly with the CVT. Haven't had any of the CVT issues that seemed to plague older Nissan models. Plenty of interior space to haul foldable furniture, etc. Maintenance is a breeze. For a 4-cyl, it has decent power! Handling is good; the AWD and ABS kick in when necessary. Owned for 1 yr. now with no problems whatsoever. Avg. 1000 miles/mo. city.

This car doesn't compare to a RAV4! My wife and I traded our 2010 Rav4 for this, thinking there wouldn't be much of a change, but I was wrong. I am a tall guy, I fitted just fine in our Rav4, but I noticed it was tighter in the Rouge at the test drive. The wife like the price of the Rouge and how we were able to get all the options for the same price of a new Rav4. I listened to wife and bought this for her and it's been a mistake ever since. It doesn't turn like our old car, blind spots all over, CTV transmission is noisy. You think it's going to break down every time you step on the gas. I ain't one to make up an account to talk about a car, but people need to be warned! Stay away!

I purchased my Rogue in June of 2013. So far, it has proven to be a reliable, comfortable, and fun to drive vehicle. I test drove The Jeep Patriot, Toyota Rav-4, and Ford Escape, before choosing the Rogue. The Rav-4 and Escape were nice, but were pricey. As for the Patriot; no comment smh. The Rogue's smooth ride, decent acceleration, nice handling, and fair asking price were what sold me. The CVT does take some getting use to, but it serves it purpose. MPG ranges between 23.5 and 26.7. Only issue I have is I wish it was just a bit larger. The cargo space is modest but I knew that when I bought it. Overall it's a good vehicle, although I think a Tucson or Sportage gives more bang for buck.

The car we'd like to love !

We purchased the Rouge new. It was a attractive, solid car, nice to drive. But, first, the paint chips and scratches to easy. Navigation is dangerously inaccurate. We use our Garmin. After dealer changed oil at 3,500 miles, we noticed the engine getting loud on any load being put on it, passing, climbing grade etc.. Drowns out radio. New, mpg was 25.4 consistently. Now 23 and falling. We feel it is because of engine loudness issue. Interior is wonderful. Radio a little disappointing for a Bose. It now has 5,000 miles, and a dealer claims engine noise is normal ? If this car would have remained as we drove it off the lot, we'd love it. Unfortunately, it's in a downhill spiral.

I purchased a new 2013 Rogue in May 2013. Last week, the malfunction light came on in the car. After experiencing difficulty accelerating while driving in town, I took the car to the nearest Nissan dealer. Eventually, it was determined that I needed a new transmission. The car had less than 5,000 miles! It has been 8 days and the car is still being repaired. I will never purchase another Nissan again. Clearly, there was a defect in the manufacturing process.

Nissan has decided to short customers buying the 2013 model. The hood insulator (black cover under the hood) is missing and they claim "it is no longer needed". When shopping for a 2013 Rogue, check under the hood and compare to a 2012 or the new 2014 and ask the dealer to explain why this safety feature is missing!

Pros: 1. CV Tranny excellent, no constant shifting 2. Plenty of power when needed at any speed. 3. Drives comfortably, but shorter wheelbase of this class is a little bumpier. 4. I get 28 mpg, my wife gets 24 overall. Gets over 30 on the highway at 60 mph. 5. Door looking options are very nice. Cons: 1. The Navigation system is totally useless. I had to buy a GPS. Cannot be set while moving, no MPH check, No useful trip record, no elevation, etc. etc. Of no use whatsoever. 2. No option for power seats for passenger. 3. Cargo space is small for class. 4. Speedometer is analog only, no digital read.

Perfect price, Great looks and Cool features for the price!

I am 28 and this is the 19th new car I have owned. I have had everything from a 2 seater smart car to a crew cab full size pick up truck with cars from basic to luxury fully loaded. My 18th new car was a fully loaded 2010 Nissan Cube which was a GREAT car and has made me a loyal Nissan owner now. The price to maintane the vehicle is cheaper then its other Japanese competitors. This little SUV has enough pep to keep you happy with the great fuel economy that is truely hard to achieve in this class of vehicle. I have the FWD SV with premium package. I test drove this in 12" of unplowed parking lot snow and it plowed right through it!

I traded in a 2010 Chrysler T&C loaded because the 3.8L V-6 was just too gas hungry 18-19 mpg. I got tired of it after the new wore off. My wife and I have owned 2 Nissan Sentras and we have liked Nissan products. I decided to try the Rogue and I am very happy with my choice, however, I was going to buy a 2013 Sentra but they all had Black interiors. I could not find one with a light interior. In Texas when the temp is 100 degrees you don't want to be setting in a black car. I purchased a "Frosted" Rogue SL loaded and I love driving it. 25 mpg and I haven't been on any road trips yet. It will do better on "Cruise". The Nissan Rogue will make a nice traveling SUV.
