I loved my pretty little CX5 the day I bought it too. This review is based on 45,000 single driver usage in Northeastern US, mostly highway and thruway driving. I didn't make it out of the dealer lot before having repeated trouble with the TPMS. At 5000 miles the paint began falling off the front. Mazda: 'it's road use' therefore not covered. I recently brushed against the needles of my spruce tree and the needles cut the paint... At 16,000 miles I had to replace the rotors; Mazda: 'it's the ice and salt.' Replaced rotors again at 32,000 and just now again at 45,000 miles... Had to replace standard tires at 20,000 mi. Interior: the carpet is shot, and that's even using aftermarket Mazda rugged floormats. In the city. The leather is cheap and thin, and you can't clean lint or sand out of the perforations. The headrest is still very uncomfortable. Moonroof sticks from time to time. The Bose speakers are not Bose quality; I have Bose at home. There is no light in the rear hatch. Fuel efficiency: 25 mpg overall on flatland interstate driving. It is underpowered at 2.0 and does not safely merge onto thruway with a grade. A lot of road noise in the cabin. If these don't bother you, and that Mazda International WILL blow you off at every turn to not uphold the warranty, go ahead. But there are far better vehicles out there. Wish I had one now.

I absolutely loved this car. I didn't know how much I loved it until I totaled it and had to get a different car. Everything about it was great. I wish more car manufacturers made cars that had blind side monitors. They added an extra sense of security. Great sound system also. When I totaled it, it had about 105,000 miles on it (I bought it brand new) and it never needed any repairs. The only negative that I will have to say is that the key battery drained quickly and never had time to go get it charged. I could still start the car just without the convenience of the keys being anywhere in the car. I had to hold the key up to the button and push it. But a small price to pay for such a great car. There's so many more positive things I could say about this vehicle but mum tired of typing lol

When I first realized I wanted an suv just because they were a little bigger then my car and would be practical I researched over 30 different suvs buy different factors such as by fuel economy, safety rating, size, style, value, purchase price, etc. The mazda cx-5 came out to be the number one choice on my list. I don't normally fill out surveys but this vehicle is excellent. Overall very happy with my cx-5.

New transmission at 41K miles

I purchased this vehicle as a certified used vehicle from a dealer @39K miles. The engine had a whine while driving that was always present and not dependent on conditions. The salesman claimed not to be able to hear it. During the test drive. I purchased the vehicle and drove it a little less than 2K miles. I recently received a recall notice about another component and when I brought it back I asked them to road test it to check on the whine. After having the car for a day the service manager called and said the whine was due to a faulty transmission and they have to replace it. With the certified warranty the work is covered so I am not out of pocket, but it doesn't exactly instill confidence in the quality of this vehicle.

Update to my original review Even after 7 months still loving this SUV. It handles great on the icy roads and through several snow storms this past winter. Have approx. 31000 miles as of now. Driving has mostly been locally to/from work etc. but planning to test it on some longer distance trips before summer is over. Having owned Subaru Foresters and a RAV4 along the way -was looking for a roomier vehicle and one that didn't cut off my vision when turning. Tested Honda CRV before deciding on the Mazda CX-5. The dash layout on the CRV was impossible to see over. The Mazda was the right fit -love how the dash is laid out and the ease of controls. The MPG changes as we drive. Current MPG isn't very accurate - have seen where it registers 99 mpg and then a few seconds later shows 44 mpg. The backup camera is ok but I still always check the surroundings. This comes with a blind spot monitor too-helpful when driving in heavy traffic and when merging into traffic. The interior lighting isn't the best -even turned up all the way up. Agree with other posters this is difficult to get up to speed when merging into traffic or when you resume after a stop. Overall it is great for getting around town to and from work and will be great for traveling as well.

Got the same mileage driving to Kentucky from PA as my Toyota Corrolla S did. Beautiful interior with the leather package. Geers shift a little bit slower than I prefer but you can always throw it into manual and shift yourself. Great stereo with the Bose package. The navigation system misunderstands often. Heard there are others that experience this and Mazda has been working on a solution. Actually about to visit the dealer tomorrow to see if buying the 2016 model makes sense. Love this vehicle.

36,000 miles with just oil changes and tires

Purchased July 2012 touring AWD with moonroof bose and tech package.Only problem is/was rattle somewhere in the dash that comes and goes when the temp is around 35-40 .Didn't take the dash apart because the rattle was gone when I took it in for service. The engine IS underpowered but adequate with a light load ,2 adults and a dog.Forget 2 adults and 2-3 kids just not enough power to merge or pass safely.The transmission is great fast shifts and does seem to have logic control that learns to shift based on your driving,at least it seems that way to me.Ride is fine if a little noisy and handling is first rate a lot like a Mazda 3 with a higher center of gravity and I drive aggressively up and down mountain roads and few can keep up with me.Gas mileage is just OK,keep it under 60 on secondary roads and the gauge will say 32 MPG which is really 30 MPG because the gauge is calibrated for 19 in tires not the 17 in that comes with the Touring model,(What's up with that) get on a interstate and drive 75 MPH and you'll see a actual 24-25 MPG on hilly terrain.I'm sure I'll still be driving it when the redesigned model comes out around 2018 (unless I hit the lottery ) and then I'll decide if I'll buy another one. It's going to need even more power than the 2.5 for me to consider it.

Overall this has been a great vehicle for me - only downside is paint quality on front hood - after only a few months, there is a penny sized paint free zone; but this car has been reliable, dependable, fun and easy to drive.

I now have 35,900 miles; what will fail next? Rear rotors and brakes had to be replaced at 16,000 miles (at my cost - after 1 year). Tires shot at 20,000. Moon roof stuck. Speakers 'Bose' are apparently knockoffs. The 'leather' is like saran-wrap thin and you can't clean the dirt out of the perforations. Driver side carpet shot early. Paint showering off the front end at 6,000 miles. Mazda wouldn't stand behind it. Paid to have it repainted this summer. Off road then back on road after THREE WEEKS already showing pock marks in the front bumper paint. Chips galore. It's never been on a country or dirt road much less offroad. Cabin is noisy. Headrests very uncomfortably oriented. Last winter I couldn't keep the TPMS from coming on and freaking me out as I drive >100 miles a day. No light in rear cabin, can't see. I'll never buy another Mazda, ever. MPG suck, I drive throughway and interstate; single passenger; lifetime average 25.3 mpg.

I purchased this car used with 46,000 miles on it ONE month ago. Yesterday the clutch pedal had no pressure and the gear box wouldn't let me select a gear (it's a manual). After having towed my two year old car to the dealership, we found out a cylinder was shot. Ok, not a huge deal...it's covered under warranty, right? WRONG! Mazda, how can a faulty cylinder not be covered by the power train warranty??? I mean, come on! We called Mazda customer service just to make sure the dealer wasn't being dishonest. We could barely believe it...there in the fine print was a huge bill for a two year old car. Makes me wonder what's yet to come. If you're going to make a car with this kind of dangerous vulnerability, at least back it with your warranty.

The Cx-5 is a very fun car to drive. At 28000 miles I started to have some electrical problems. For no reason, the traction light comes on, the tire light, and the engine light comes on. I have to pull over each time to turn off the car and turn it back on again. Traction light and tire light go off but engine light remains. Two hours later after car was turned off, engine light was off when I restarted car. This has happened about 10 times. Other owners are having the same problem. In addition to this situation, the radio keeps going off and a BSM light comes on. I contacted Mazda and they did not return my call or my email. I will not purchase another Mazda, too unreliable.

We have had this car since 2012 and it has been great! It is just the right size for getting around town but with lots of space. AWD gets through the snow without a problem. As many, had to replace the tires at 27,0000 miles.

I think I was the 2nd person to buy in MN because I was waiting for the cx-5 or the escape whichever came first. Bought the car in Feb of 2012 and have really enjoyed the car and now have 27,500 miles on the car. It is fun to drive. The tires are 19 in and were replaced at 23k and are expensive because they are not a popular size. The only problem is it is underpowered with the 2.0 especially pulling out into traffic or having the car loaded with 5 people, almost unsafe. Would not buy this again but would consider the 2014 which has the bigger engine. I get 32 mpg on the highway and 20 or 21 mpg in the city which is a stop light ever mile or so. For a suv we were happy with the mpg.

Purchase a CX-5 4-Cylinder Base model on Jan 18, 2013. After one year of ownership, I am still happy with the purchase, no major issues have cropped up, and everything seems to be working fine. I purchased this car to replace a 1999 chevy venture that we had outgrown. Most of the reviews I have read complain of poor fuel economy and lack of engine performance. If you wanted performance then buy a sports car! This is a small SUV with a small engine, Most of our driving is done in town under 40 MPH on flat Kansas roads. After one year I only have 9,000 Miles on the car.

Doing as much research as possible on the current market led me to the CX-5. A long term RAV4 owner with friends who drive Subarus provided some first hand insight on my most likely competitor candidates. Yet a test drive--along with some nudging from style--made the decision an easy one. I settled on a Touring AWD with Sunroof and Bose. So far I'm pleased with the driving experience, style, value and comfort. Any negatives? Yes, for a dozen reasons, I wish I did NOT purchase the Bose audio system. What a waste of $ not to mention effort I'll expend to replace it with something less annoying.

Now about 45,000 miles. The car is garaged. Top overall mpg is only 25.3, in spite of all thruway and interstate driving. Now on its Third set of rotors all around. That averages about 16,000 miles per rotor complete replacement. Accidentally backed up along my spruce tree and the Needles scratched the paint. The carpet is shot in spite of using heavy duty aftermarket mats. Wanna buy one? Cross shopped all the high-efficiency small AWDs. Mazda was a little more expensive but "appeared" to have more amenities. Appearances are deceiving. I bought a fully loaded GT CX-5 with everything but a NAV, based on reviews of the NAV. After 6500 miles that pretty sky blue paint has more white zits than a teenager, the leather is like paper, the "Bose" speakers sound like a discount house box speaker, and I can't get the fuel efficiency higher than 26.0 on interstate driving. Mazda, by way of your dealer, will not stand behind its product.

Best Crossover

My salesman was right, Mazda has that Europian drive like feeling, I test drove the Rav4 and the Crv, but Mazda Cx5 was the winner, I am really impressed all the way around, quality build, I don't think the RAV4 is in the same category to be honest, felt boring, too light, lot of road noise, Matter of fact Just traded my 2013 cx5 and got the new 2016 Cx5!

I Really Wanted to Like the CX-5

The CX-5 is certainly the best-handling crossover on the market, with dynamics similar to the BMW X1/X3. The ride was stiff, which was good on smooth roads but uncomfortable on rough roads. Space was plenty for passenger comfort as well as cargo. But the big disappointment with the 2013 CX-5 was the engine and transmission. The engine is definitely underpowered for the car, I literally had to floor the gas pedal every time I merged onto the highway. The transmission was even more terrible as it lagged significantly whenever I floored the pedal to get more power. Fuel economy was good, though not significantly worth it with the underpowered engine.

One Year Later

One year later, no major problems. Runs well, still comfortable, decent sound system (I don't expect a studio experience), no new noises, rear door still occasionally resists latching once, closes the second time. My primary concern is getting on the interstate via a short ramp and 70mph plus speeds whizzing by, this car can be dangerous trying to get up to speed fast. It hesitates too long or is unpredictable in it's response. Hope future CX-5 engineers fix this danger.

So, I have had this car for about a year and my biggest complaint is the performance. If you don't drive on the freeway this may be the car for you. If you need to get moving quickly - don't even think about it. Secondary issue is the gas mileage. Advertised as 26 city and 32 highway. I have averaged 22 in the city; 28 highway; and 23 mixed. Not much of a consolation for the lackluster engine. Overall the design is pretty good and handling is fair. It does get quite a bit of wind noise. It has been reliable over this first year of ownership with no issues. Last issue - keyless entry isn't really keyless. Must have the key in hand to unlock the doors with this model.

Overall car is good, BUT, tire pressure light keeps coming on. Dealer has reset it, comes back on in less than 10 miles, dealer resets again and stays off for a month, back on again. I have done this dance 4+ times and is on again! No the tires are not low, no I have not pushed the reset button. I think this is a defect.

gas mileage

I own a CX5 AWD with a hitch. I have reviewed this car when it was new and I am now reviewing it after one years worth of driving. The most impressive feature for me is the outstanding gas mileage in this car. I recently hyper- tested my mileage for about 100 miles over flat and/or gently rolling country roads with a fair amount of traffic and squeezed about 40 MPG from the car. I average 35mpg normally. The info gauge seemed slightly generous with a reading of about 45mpg. I set the info gauge to averaging mode which is a little confusing as to how it calculates it's figure but I'm not complaining too much. The handling is outstanding although over bumpy road conditions it is a bit harsh.

Great Car but climate Control does not work correctly

My only real complaint is the Automatic Climate Control is not automatic. If the outdoor temperature is 85 Degrees and the temperature is set to 62F on the automatic temperature control the blower will run at 50% and slow down in 5 minutes to 25%. After 30 minutes of driving the temperature in the car is 78 degrees. The dealer said this is normal. I sent an E-Mail to customer care, a week later they repeated what the dealer said and would not take any further action on behalf. This causes me to have to manually maintain the temperature by varying the fan speed and switching the air intake. I can only assume all of the CX-5's (Possibly all Mazda's)will operate the same way. Be AWARE of this.

I practically researched the following small SUV's before settling down for the CX-5: 1. Mazda CX-5 2. 2013 Rav 4 Limited Edition 4WD 3. 2013 Honda CRV EX-L with Navi - 4WD 4. Acura RDX 2WD with Tech Package 5. Infiniti EX 37 6. Ford Escape I test drove all the above, some even multiple times to cross compare. There were others on my list which I did not test drive: 1. Buick - Encore 2. Chevy - Traverse 3. Jeep - Grand Cherokee. (The new small version was still not out) Finally, settled for CX-5 more from a value for money, fun to drive aspect. I have a blue color CX-5, AWD, GT, Tech Pack.

Nice handling, little else

I was looking for something with a little more cargo capacity than my old rsx last year, and was really taken by how well the cx-5 handled during the test drive. I did not think the low-powered engine would be much of a problem. I was wrong. Going up hills with a single passenger and two dogs in the back, the car made a lot of noise with very little movement. It also felt cheaply put together. After about a month of ownership, the driver's seat squeaked like an old mattress. The stock radio and speakers are utter trash. Lots of little rattles and vibrations that I didn't notice during the test drive.

I have a fully loaded 2013 model. KMs not as promised, I do have all wheel drive and don't live on flatlands though. I have had to change so far: GPS - old one turned off for no reason and was always searching for a signal, changed driver mirror, vibrated over 100 km, back up camera, went blank after one week. Current problem - anti lock brakes kicks in at low speed on dry road. Mazda dealer cannot find problem, would no show up on test drive with mechanic. I had this car for 3 month 10,000 miles So far many problems showing up Excessive gas consumption is not as dealers told me from 11.0l/km to 11.0km/h in the city without AC an only driver In emergency situation you can go over 160km/h only down hill you can get 180km/h although limit in the car is 190km/h The battery will discharge after couple hrs. when you're in music and you will need AAA to restart your car A lot of noises inside of the car seems like old car and the noise of the engine is like a oil issue The blind spot monitor is not good to trust because sometimes can not detect a big truck in one side of you or sometimes stay active all time without cars in the sides & more.

This car makes weird noises. The motor sounds like birds chirping and it makes me nervous. Is it supposed to sound like this? Sure wish I had a rear camera. The visibility is bad over the shoulder. Interior noise is fair. Car is bulky for it's actual size. Handling is pretty amazing. Really holds the road. Very fun drive. However very little power, but probably enough for normal driving. Not a race car, but kinda handles like one. Boasts some good gas mileage, but haven't experienced that yet. I hope it's just because it needs to be "broken in".

Bought the car last May, Great til Aug. On a trip when cruise went from 2400 to 6000 rpm. Happened 4 times. Thought the engine was going to blow. Highway gas mileage went from low 30s to upper 20s. Since 1-1-13 have avg. 31 in the city and 29 on hwy trips. Mazda says there is nothing wrong with the car. I live where its flat. Cruise goes into passing gear when going up the slightest incline. Again Mazda says thats normal and its saving gas by doing that. Service manager told me today that mpg hwy is only good up to 60. After that your mpg will decrease. Sky inactiv tech. Am going to try to see if Mazda USA can help but I guess it will be like hitting my head against a wall.

After 2,600 miles everything is going great. The performance is better after the 2,000 mile mark. No problems to date. The last three gas fill-ups used 33 gallons with 921 miles driven, 27.9 miles per gallon in mixed city/highway. This car is very tight and drives like a dream on the highway. I really like the blind spot monitor system and the center rear seat fold down is handy for long items. For you owners with the auto I found that by shifting to Neutral and pressing the engine off button the radio/blue tooth says on, and engine is off. Then shift into park and finish the phone call or radio until you exit. Just push the engine run button twice to completely turn off the car. Now have 37,000 miles and still running great. Great in the snow. Updated tires to pirelli tires cinturato p7 at 34,000 miles. Have had no problems and averaging 27 to 28 MPG. Would recommend the CX 5 over any other crossover on the market. Now have 43000 miles and still running great. No problems. New Pirelli tires are wearing much better than OEM tires. See a lot of CX 5's on the road. Would definitely buy again.

Hold your horses. We have a 2013 CX-5 that had the transmission go out. The dealer has had it for a month and replaced parts in the transmission twice now with no success. They can't get the vehicle started. They have been in contact with Mazda, with no success so far. We have attempted to contact Mazda USA, with no success do to their website being down. ...?... We bought all of the options that were available for a total of 40K and now we are driving a rental car from Enterprise with a threat that if anyone dings it, we will have to pay $500 no questions asked. Thank you Alan Webb. We have never heard from Mazda Care to date.

I purchased my zeal red 2013 Mazda CX-5 in AWD touring package in January 2013. I absolutely love this vehicle! This is my 3rd Mazda. My first was a 2004 3 touring (GS), and the second was a 2007 3 GT Sport hatch. I purchased the CX-5 because I wanted an awd vehicle with good fuel economy. The exterior is beautiful, interior is simple, yet clean and easy to look at. Fuel economy is wonderful (actually better than my Mazda 3GT was!) I have no complaints about this purchase. Yes it is slightly underpowered, but I only notice that while merging onto the highway. I almost bought a CX-7 I test drove a few months prior to this and WOW am I ever glad I didn't.

Just bought a silver Sport manual 1 month ago. One COLD night, the car wouldn't start (1 week old!). AAA noted battery had lost a minimal amount of charge (windows and lights worked fine). Then all the warning lights came on at once when tried to start. He reprogrammed something by using the key in the door. Started right after that, but seemed to run a bit more sluggishly. Next day, the dealer looked it over. Erased and reprogrammed the computer and replaced the battery. No problems since then. Wife noted a REALLY subtel buzzing ("cricket-like") from driver dash area, when pushing the gas. Have to turn radio off to hear it.

Have read other reviews of the CX5 and am wondering what I'm missing. I purchased the Touring model with the Bose/moonroof package. The Bose system is pretty awful. All the sound seems to come out of the center speaker. The vocals sound tinny and no adjustment of the treble and bass seem to make much difference unless bass is turned all the way up and treble all the way down. And the interior is so cheaply made! The floor carpeting pulls away every time I try to remove the floor mats to vacuum.The driver side cloth covered armrest is already showing some sign of wear and I've only had the vehicle for 30 days. Very disappointing. So is the bird chirping sound the engine started making.

As a 6 foot 4 inch man, I was worried about this vehicle. However a test drive proved I had nothing to fear. I can easily get in and out with plenty of room once nestled in the soft leather seat. The styling is impressive, with an aggressive looking nose and a well done interior. The sun roof, reverse camera, Bose sound system, and easy to collapse rear seats are also positives. This SUV isn't going to throw you back in your seat when accelerating, but it is quick enough for my purposes and haven't found myself wanting more.

I bought my CX-5 in july, I have over 7,000 miles on it already and it has not made one peep. I drive it like a maniac in a mountainous area and still get average of 26 mpg, which is more than the computer calculated mpg. I just put it through a dangerous off-road test and it performed admirably. Two and a half inches of snow over grass and frozen mud, it drove through it like on asphalt on a hot summer day. I have done 125 miles per hour on the highway. I have not seen any reason to miss my V-6 turbocharged car, sure it does not take off on the line but it is not a race car, it still beats most vehicles. The transmission is the best I have seen outside of a Porsche.

I purchased the cx5 over 3 months ago and it has almost 3,000 miles. I am only getting about 24 miles per gallon, but i do have the 4wd and mostly city driving. I like the looks of the car. My prior car was a 2010 rav4 limited v6 AWD. I have test drove almost all of the CUVs out there. I liked the CX5 the best. It handles great on the road, takes corners like a sports car and very comfortable. It can use more power, but has enough for everyday driving. The leather seats are very comfortable. Nice and roomy inside. I got the nav, which does kinda suck. But the bluetooth is great and the Bose stereo sounds excellent. I love the blind spot detection. My very first Mazda. No problems so far.

Have owned my Mazda CX5 since May 2012. I keep having problems almost since I bought. The very first thing was the GPS said it was out of date. I tried to update the memory card like it said with TomTom online. Was a big pain. Then was trying to get my trial of satellite radio which didn't work well. Could use some more power. At around 9,000 miles all the warning lights came on, cruse control wouldn't work. Bad battery. Then this last week at around 16,000 miles all warning lights came on again and would not shift. Waiting on some transmission part now. I do not have faith in taking the car on any long road trip now.

Getting 28 MPG in 50/50 mixed driving with winter fuel, handles great in snow and ice. I was set on Subaru Crosstrek, but not impressed with noisy CVT and had to really push throttle to get moving, freeway ride stiff and choppy. Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. Ride better but did not like CVT. Sorry no Fix Or Repair Daily Escape, look at consumer reviews and GM crossovers . Honda CRV did not like looks. CX 5 highway drive solid, smother ride, quieter, lots of options and space for the $. Did not get Technology Package. Engine/trans provides all the power needed for hills and accel for freeway. Driving at 70 MPG registers 32. $1,400 off list plus tossed in set of all weather floor mats

I purchased my CX-5, 9,000 miles ago. It's the base model 6 speed manual. I love it, much more responsive than the automatic I test drove. The 6 speed and clutch are better than my old Honda Accord. I have a lead foot and avg. 30.5 MPG overall, and my brothers just hate me for that. I love the cloth material they used, the stock radio sounds very good. Great handling for for an SUV, a bit slow, but not that bad if you get the 6 speed manual. I get 415 miles between fill ups in the Los Angeles traffic.

I like my Cx-5. It doesn't have the get up and go my old explorer had, but it has excellent room in the front and back seats and plenty of room in the back when you drop the seats. It has better gas mileage than the Explorer. I like everything about my Cx-5 except the Tom-Tom GPS. It is overpriced and looks like a cartoon. It works most of the time. I have owned my Cx-5 for 4 months now and am happy with my purchase, except the gps. It recently told me to update the maps because the information is 14 months old. I contacted my local dealer and now they want to charge me $280. for an update disk. The GPS cost $500 initially now they want more than half to update it. Good car, bad gps.

After being opened minded while shopping around at all the different makes once I saw the CX5 I knew right away this was the car for me. The Rouge didn't have enough front passenger leg room, the Honda CRV didn't come close to matching the interior design and I wouldn't even consider the Rav4.

After months of research and more test drives than I can count, I purchased my CX-5 about 5 months ago. I have not regretted the decision. I am 6'5" tall and needed a family vehicle that was comfortable for me to drive and had room for car seats in the back. I also wanted a vehicle that got good mileage. The CX-5 is perfect for this role and is fun to drive too! I know a lot has been said about lack of power, but I have not had any issues where I thought it needed more power (Disclaimer, my previous car was a 2004 VW Jetta with the 2.0 engine).

People consider me fussy in the cars I buy or lease. Since my wife drives a 2010 Mazda Tribute AWD Grand Touring, when it came time for me to select a new car, I traded my Mercedes roadster in on a CX5 AWD Grand Touring after considering a Hyundai Santa Fe and the Kia Sportage. I was specific at the dealer, wanting a white one, Tech Package, all weather floor mats, roof rack, cargo cover, rear bumper guard, etc. They didn’t have one but found one in another state and sent a driver to get it for me after I gave them $100 deposit. The next day all the paperwork was completed and they filled it with gas, prepped the vehicle and I took delivery. I’m absolutely impressed with the Bluetooth and how it just sucked in my entire phone addresses and how I can make or receive calls while driving. The Tom Tom Nav system is inferior to my portable Magellan and is the only disappointment. I’m impressed in the seat comfort, three level heated seats, dual climate control, high intensity headlights and responsiveness of the vehicle. It’s beautiful to look at and very stylish with the 19” wheels and black outlining of the wheel openings, dual exhaust with chrome tips as well as the blind spot monitoring system. The availability of having the optional manual shifter is a great extra feature as is the folding 40/20/40 rear seats that are easy to operate. I believe the daytime running lights are a great safety feature as well. All in all, I paid a little too much but am completely satisfied.

Bought for family of four. Shopped a lot! Once we decided we were okay with less seating capacity and overall size v. the Ford Explorer, Traverse, etc., the search continued for similar SUV feel on smaller scale, including lower price. Looked at Edge, really liked drive, but had to go with used and not so great gas mileage. So, on to the Equinox and Escape.. the Chevy just felt cramped.. even though good looking it just wasn't doing it for me on interior. The advertised prices led us to CX-5 v Escape.. The CX5 just felt right on interior roomy space, comfort and ease/simplicity of dash.Yet had enuf cool features to feel modern and plush. Awesome gas mileage too!! That alone should sell!

Fully loaded CX5 GT AWD is fun to drive and feels higher lux than you'd expect. 19" wheels give a stiffer ride than I hoped - Mazda should offer 18"s I think as an option. Since April 2012, 28 MPG city. Need to carefully modulate gas pedal to optimize performance without slipping into passing gear, but even so, good accelleration. Overall, nice. Problems: A/C fuse blown at purchase - blew warm air at idle- Fixed. Noticed a gear slip, momentary RPM redline, and "clunk" when engaging passing gear at highway speeds - Not Fixed yet. Ordered rear sensing system - beeps constantly in Reverse - Not Fixed yet. Could use better TomTom nav controls (zoom lock) and a constant compass readout somewhere.

I have had my CX-5 since June, and have had fun driving this car with the 6-speed manual transmission. While it is gutless going uphill, mostly I don't notice the lack of power. I tend to get around 31mpg overall, and I'm pretty happy with that. Two things... I wish that the great blue color was available on the 6-speed (my choices were black, silver and grey) and I wish that there was better accessibility in the back seat. My mom rides back there sometimes, and it's hard for her to get in and out.

I've owned this vehicle since April. It now has 21005 miles on it. The following is my experience with this CX5 Grand Touring FWD. Mazda, the Tom Tom navigation system is a HUGE disappointment. I've updated the maps (twice) using Tom Tom home (which one must be able to do on their own home computer- you out of luck if you’re not tech savvy), and it factory reset 4 time ( based on the recommendation of the Tom Tom support staff) This hasn’t helped. The GPS has lead me down dead end roads, constantly lost the GPS signal in the middle of a route, routed traffic the absolutely longest route possible, instructed me to turn with no road, jumped off the route into neighborhoods along the interstate and navigated thru neighborhoods I’d rather have not visited. The navigation system has limited ability to zoom out so one could see a “short cut” or the way to the nears main road. Once zoomed out, it loses the small roads. It has been in the Mazda shop twice. Today, they are putting a new antenna on the vehicle. I no longer trust the navigation system, (which is one reason I bought this vehicle) . I keep my Droid phone available and a paper map. This was never an issue when I owned a Honda Touring Van- with maps on it from 2007. Next, when programing the GSP ( BECAUSE OF SAFETY LOCK IT CAN ONLY BE PROGRAMED WHEN THE VEHICLE IS NOT IN MOTION) this is a HUGE safety issue for me. At times, I just want to get out of a neighborhood, as a home health nurse. I’ve learned don’t keep driving somewhere I don’t know, however, stopping is not such a good plan either. While programing the GPS, the air conditioner vent freezes my hand. There is no back air, so people sitting in the back seat are forced to sweat while the air is turned off, or the one programming the GSP must take breaks to warm their hands to keep them from freezing. The driver’s seat has clips which are supposed to hold the leather material clipped to the underneath side of the seat. These clips continually come unattached causing the seat material to slide around. This will have to be replaced. There is no arm rest for the driver’s seat right side. The left arm can use the door. I’ve had to use a pillow to support my arm on long trips. Obviously I have driven quite a bit since late April with 21005 miles. A back light at the hatchback would be MOST helpful while loading and unloading at night. The little lights in the front and middle do not offer enough light for the rear of the car. My tire sensor has gone off, indicating a low tire. Which one?? Who knows! There is no indication of which tire, so each and every tire must be checked. The mechanic who checked it in a small town in northern Arkansas said each tire had exactly the specified air. Mazda hooked it up to the computer and I was told that my tire was low, however it was fine now. I added no air, and did not have the tires rotated (which may cause a problem I’ was told). But now, miraculously, the air has been restored. I wonder if there is a faulty sensor? Gas mileage has been between 26 and 30 in the city (I have lots of hills here) and 30 – 33 on the highway. It takes a little umph to get this car moving to pass. These are all little things – except the navigation system-. I love my heated seats, automatic garage door opener, the sporty style, the amazing rocking sound system and the overall drive. Would I buy it again…. Maybe Update: Mazda dealership bent over backwards, lending me a Garmin to attach to the dashboard and after several attempts, including replacing the GPS system and antenna, the GPS is working. It occasionally loses signal and goes into the searching for GPS signal mode, however this is rare. The Tom Tom system isn’t as user friendly as the Honda system, Google maps or a Garmin, however using Tom Tom and Google maps, I have an accurate map.

Towing with CX5 Touring Model (with 5000 miles)

I tow a Waverunner (1500lbs) with my CX5 and it does fine. Went from TN to WI round trip and got 24 miles per gal.while pulling. The SUV does fine pulling the Waverunner in and out of the water. With tow wiring installed the BSM does not work which is to bad. The tow wiring kit has been installed correctly. The Reese type 3 trailer hitch does not rattle while driving. The first hitch installed rattle terribly at 2300 RPMs. Initially my highway gas mileage was lower than expected when not towing (was around 30 mpg), but that is improving as I add mileage; currently getting 33 mpg. The CX5 has plenty of umph you just have to put your foot into it, especially when towing.

In 2010 my wife and I bought a Mazda 10 (me)and a Mazda 3 and were impressed them. When the 2013 Mazda CX-5 came out I bought one for myself and two weeks later bought the identical CX-5 (different color) for my wife. The CX-5 comes in three trim levels and we bought the mid level Touring. The Touring level has all the important bells and whistles, yet is 2-3 thousand dollars less. All we did was add after market leather, which is very good quality. Gas milage is so far 28.1 cty/hwy and thats only with 1,500 miles on the car. looked to other similar cars and not impressed. Also relied heavily on Edmunds for reliable review of the vehicle which has always been right on.

Hi, Got my Silver metalic CX-5 sport model two months back. Ride quality is very good. Acceleration feels slightly under powered as it feels little sluggish while changing lanes or moving after a stop light, the brighter side it's fuel efficient. No regrets. Love it so far.

Just purchased a CX-5 Touring 2 weeks ago. So far so good. It rides well. I'm getting over 26MPG with city and freeway driving. The blue tooth/touch screen stereo system is great. Very intuitive. All the controls in the interior are intuitive. Overall I'm very happy with my purchase. Some things to consider: 1. The headrests are very far forward and can be and uncomfortable neck position for some. 2. Blind Side Monitoring can take some getting used to. 3. Very new vehicle so there aren't many accessories available yet.

I had been searching on the internet for three months for a new car. I had decided between the Mazda CX5 and the Mitsubishi Outlander. The day I did my test drives I found the CX5 to be far superior to the Outlander. The Mazda has lots of pep as opposed to the Outlander's sluggish acceleration. Also, my husband is 6'6'' and he found the CX5 to be more comfortable. The CX5 also has more space in the hatchback. The fuel economy is also excellent. It's great to have a car that is economical and a blast to drive!!!

We have had our pearl white CX-5 now for 7 weeks and could not be happier with the purchase. Mazda build quality is everywhere along with great handling. No..it's not a power house but not under powered and @ $4.00 a gal for fuel that's ok with us. It is just fine the way it is and do not understand some of the talk of lack of power..it zips right along! The rear back-up camera is great to have..Bose sound system rocks and so far fuel economy with very little highway is 29.5 Mpg...grab one..not the Chevy or the Ford!

The SkyActive Automatic Transmission is, in my opinion, never in the correct gear. I ordered my CX-5 AWD GT when I returned my 2010 Mazda3 lease in April, it arrived May-end, almost killed me twice within a week. I opened a case with Mazda customer service in June when it was less than a week old. I'm still having issues 4500 miles in, and refuse to drive it out of town. Mazda is still working with me, but slowly. I am scheduled to bring it in (again) to download the onboard computer's data, then they will order and attach a data capture device, I will note when the issue occurs, then they can analyze the data. I feel like I'm beta testing their 32k SUV.

It's been less than a week, since I bought a 2013 CX-5 Touring Edition (FWD)w/auto/ Moonroof. Plus points: Very sports, high quality interior. great milage. I am getting 29 mpg avr driving almost 45 miles a day in medium to heavy traffic. The BSM system is great. Secondly, the handling is very good for a SUV. It handles like sports coupe, and the engine being a 4 cyl is quite adequent. If I wanted a v6, I would have gotten a Lexus RX, but for the value you get in a CX-5 and fact you DON'T need premium fuel, that's a HUGE win.. Bose 9 speaker is awesome. The front profile is very nice, and plenty of room for 5/6 adults.. Bluetooth / ipod integration/rearcamera/ makes it very modern.

Purchased this shortly after they arrived in US. Decided on Mazda over CRV to be different. Also like BSM and that the better radio/speakers can be added to the mid level Touring model. Wife is primary driver and she is getting about 26.5 MPG w/ 30 mile city daily commute. Also very comfortable on highway. Noise level is very acceptable. Now that my wife has driven this a lot she likes it more and more compared to 2001 Town & Country which was actually a very quiet and competant driving vehicle.

Okay, so I came from a 2008 Cadillac CTS and LOVED that car . . . but kids got bigger, stuff got bigger . . . you know the deal . . . needed a vehicle that could be fun and practical. Looked at so many cars including CTS wagon . . . kept coming back to "why spend so much?" Looked at RDX, Highlander (another favorite) but all the SUV's kept coming in with bad gas mileage unless you bought the hybrid. On a whim I came across from Acura to the Mazda dealer and sat in a CX 5. It had features I wanted . . . a great Bose system, bi-xenon adaptive headlights, navi, etc. No, I won't win any races . . . but it really is fun to drive!

This car was never on my list of cars to test drive because of its horsepower and I wanted to drive something more upscale. After test drove the X3, Allroad, RDX, and Escape, I gave this car a try and I ordered the GT model afterward. It was worth the 3 weeks wait and I am loving it. It handles like the X3, it has less power but I can use unleaded gas and I get 30 mpg.

Got the Touring w/ Bose Audio + Moonroof and Technology packages. Compared w/ CR-V, RAV4, Forester, and Murano. Engine is smaller, but it is plenty responsive. All the others I tried had more raw power, but the difference wasn't significant for most commuter driving. Handling and road feel, the CX-5 blew all the others out of the water. It's a crossover, but it handles more like a sporty sedan. Fuel economy was also a huge improvement over the others. All this at a price about $2-3k less than comparably equipped models from the other manufacturers.

Since last year, I've researched, tested-drive compact SUVs include RAV4, CRV, X3, Rogue. When CX5 was available, made my trip to the delarship, tested drive a Touring and I was hooked on CX5. I ended buying the Grand Touring with Tech package, which is ideal for a busy working professional like me, with weekend drive-around with my two dogs. The driving is smooth, love the look, love the rear view camera, the BSM is awesome, the drive is smooth and the price is a steal! This is my fun ride! Zoom zoom.

Just brought this CX-5 and love it. Right away driving 4 miles to work and 4 miles home getting 25 MPG in the city driving. You can't go wrong with this Mazda. Owned 9 Mazda's is a row and never had any problems with them. Best looking SUV for the Money. Very smooth ride and excellent visability. I have the Touring model that has the 17" Wheels that I think has a little better ride than the Grand Touring with the 19" Just my opinion. Mazda has the looks and reliability. Honda CRV Boring, RAV4 Ugly, Kia Sportage has the looks but not sure on reliability. Just go and look at the Mazda and you will be impressed.

Though advertised as zoom-zoom, due to its weight is about 600 pounds heavier than my previous 2007 Mazda 3 sedan, I was only able to "zoom" but well aware of its speed is slower than the other 2 CUVs that I've looked at, Outback and CR-V. The CR-V has the softest ride but subjectively I cannot deal w/ it on a daily basis. However, the interior design and features are the best. The Outback appears to be lower and I like the backup camera view located on the rear-view mirror, but I do not need AWD or its mileage penalty. The CX-5 is a good compromise and it's my 4th Mazda. Other than slow, I like the weighted and leather-wrapped steering wheel. Love the price too w/ all the features.

Just purchased a CX-5 touring a week ago and love it! I have been thinking about trading my '03 Ford Explorer for over a year, but could not decide which vehicle would be functional and get good gas mileage. I really wanted to wait for the 2013 Ford Escape and buy American again. After test-driving the Escape, I liked the way it handled and it had a little more power than the Mazda, but it had 2 recalls within 2 weeks shortly after launching, so I decided to buy the Mazda. I have been very happy, so far. Averaging 28 mpg with combined city/hwy driving (and playing around with the manual shift mode). There is some tire noise, but not too bad. Heard it before, but Mazdas are fun to drive!

Its hard to come by a crossover SUV which gives exceptional mileage combined with excellent sports-car like driving dynamics and styling all at a competitively great price. Its just a practical and fun to drive car with a brand new Skyactiv engine & 6-speed transmission along with impressive interior space & wheelbase. The tactile steering feedback is excellent. I really like the blind spot monitoring feature. The interior is simple and elegant with high quality materials. The GT Technology package is not necessary in my opinion. Even though it only has 155HP power, you can feel what the Mazda engineers have tried to achieve in this vehicle with the SkyActive engine and suite of technologies

My frame of reference is comparing this with other autos I've owned. I just ordered a cx5 2013 awd stripped down Sport in April and it arrived from japan mid June. The blue color on the catalog color cover is exactly right not the color on the inside color option page. Lift the hood at a dealer and the engine block on all types (I suspect) is blue- that's the blue I got and I love it. The kids have these complaints.: cup holders, back window to small, more room in the van. I am missing armrests, like the van has. My van gets 23 mpg awd, this gets 29 awd. Manual shift is odd, better gas not using it anyway. It has a more active ride- don'tdrink coffee on a rough road! Overall I like it.

For many years I have been a faithful honda owner. I recently purchase the Mazda CX-5 FWD with tech pckg. It was a very difficult decison for me because I owned a 2006 Honda Civic. The decision was difficult because with the Civic I got 40 mpg. And with the CX5 in my research it only get 32 mpg. I switch because I use to own a Honda CRV and I missed having the CRV. I looked at Kia, Honda, Hyundai. None of those came close to the mileage or additional options you get with the CX5. I've only had the car for 3 days. So far it's a great vehicle to drive. It could be the bells n whistle of a new car that I'm liking. Taking it on 4th july vacation. Will update comments

I have owned two Miatas and loved them. I also traded my 2007 Honda CRV for a CX5 GT with AWD. I drove the new CRV as well. It's very nice and engine feels a bit more powerful than the CX5 but there is no comparison in handling. The CRV is more luxurious in ride & handling (softer). But the CX5 handles like a sports sedan -- amazing for an SUV! Seats feel like they were pulled from the BMW M-Sport parts bin (no kidding). Very comfortable, solid and so far I am averaging 28.1 mpg around town (with a bit over 1000 miles). That is WAY better than I did with my CRV (about 23 mpg). I can fit to adult bikes in the back with the seats folded! If you want a sporty, efficient SUV, this is it!

I recently purchased a new CX-5 Grand Touring auto. I have owned a Mazda 3 and CX-7. The 3 was a pleasure to drive: peppy, comfortable, great mileage, and quite reliable. The 5, in my opinion retains those characteristics. The new styling and amenities are far superior to those that were included in the 3 and CX-7. The CX-5 seems more compact in design than the 7; however, it has as much or more storage capacity. As noted below the car is somewhat under powered, but is still a zoom zoom car to drive. Mazda has taken the best of the 3 and 7 and produced a really great SkyActiv CX-5.

I bought my CX-5 in March. I traded a 2011 Ford Escape 4wd 6cyl for it. This was the best decision I ever made. I am getting 37mpg on my drives to work. I drive secondary roads on my 25 mile drive to work which are anywhere from 30-55 mph. My car now has 2100 miles on it and the gas mileage is awesome. The Escape I had only got 23-24 mpg.And the handling was mediocre at best and acceleration poor. My CX-5 is so much fun to drive and the handling is fantastic especially through the corners. I love everything about this car. I think the acceleration is just fine even up hills. I never thought I would buy a 4cyl automatic because the were doggish, but this one is definitely not. Buy one.

I purchased my SUV 2 weeks ago. I am currently getting 29-30MPG. I traded in a 2007 Honda CRV and it was the 4th Honda I had owned. Upon doing research on new auto's, I saw the Mazda CX5 and loved the body style. I considered the Honda Fit, but I was disappointed it does not have the height seat adjustment. I am a 5'2 female and the seat adjustment is something that cannot be an option for me. My only complaint is the headrest sit a little high. I seldom have anyone sitting in the back seat, so I just removed the head rest until I need them. I still trying to get used to no key start, but I think my loyalty to Honda is no longer there!

I was in the market for about a year considering various makes of automobiles. i was actually settling on a sporty sedan to eventually replace my 3S when I came across the new CX-5. I had heard about the new drive train and was initially concerned about the small 2.0L, high compression engine. I contact my dealer and decided to test drive before adding the CX-5 to my list. I was pleasantly surprised. The Skyactive G engine loves to rev and has good pick-up when driving in manual mode where I have control of the shift points. In automatic mode, the transmission logic is designed for fuel economy and need some coaching of the fuel peddle to accelerate. I bought a Mica Red GT with Tech.

We were having issues finding CX-5's in South Florida but found a good assortment at Ocean Mazda in Doral, FL. First of all, let me start of by saying that i've been looking into buying a car for the past year 2 years but never pulled the trigger. I've test driven the new RAV4, CR-V, and a few other used vehicles. They weren't enough 'checks in the box' for all of them meaning there was always some sort of compromise. Well, I bought a white Grand Touring with leather, bose audio system and moonroof for 27K on May 5th. This is the complete package. Great looks, great interior, great features, great driving feel, and great MPG. Power is average compared to my 4.0L Tacoma but no complaints.

Posted week ago in Forum when purchased. After 1 week am in love. Great interior, seats extremely comfortable, handling feels very positive. Everything within easy reach. Sound system very good. Haven't checked gas mileage yet but seems good. Has that "heavy feel" in the front end making you feel more in touch with the road while driving. Enough power when merging into traffic. Quiet inside though there is some road noise which seems to come from the tires. All in all compared to the Honda CRV and Toyota Rav 4 it wins hands down. Road trip coming up in a month or so so will get a real feel then. Great vehicle to consider.

Last year I bought my wife a Mazda 3 and she and I both love it. So, while gettting an oil change I saw the advertisement for the CX-5. I had a Nissan truck that I really liked but I was getting 14MPG. I traded the truck in and immediately took the CX-5 to San Antonio from Denver. I had 3 passengers and lots of luggage. It was the most comfortable ride of any car/suv that I have owned. I calculated that I got 31 MPG with the weight of my passengers and baggage. The vehicle handles very well. I find that it has, what feels like low torque on the low end but, I drive by gas pumps all day long.

We loved our 2006 330i dearly - but we were conscious about the spiralling fuel costs as well as ptential maintenance cost for the bimmer though we were yet to have any. My wife and I were int he market for a long time and I had 3 cars that I was considering - GMC Terrain, Honda CRV and well, a used Q5. And that is when I drove the CX5. I new that the 2.0 litre engine will never satisfy coming from the 3 litre Bimmer V6. I was just hoping that it does not disappoint me completely. I must say I was pleasantly surprised with the capability of the mazda powertrain. I could live with it. For my priorities this was the overal winner.

We just picked up the skyblue CX-5 i Touring with the Bose/moonroof package and I must say, it's an impressive car. Very roomy, drives very well for a crossover (not mushy around the corners) and while it could have more ooomph, it's fast enough for most day to day driving. Very comfortable and roomy, in fact the first thing we did with it was buy a new dresser from Ikea. Car is too new to speak towards MPG yet, but the wife is happy, so I'm happy.

We just picked up a silver GT, AWD with Tech Pkg for $29k plus tax, title and doc fee in Chicagoland area. We were looking for a GT, 2WD with Tech Pkg and no dealership carries one. The lead time is around 6-8 weeks from Japan, so we paid a little more for a top of the line. No regrets. My wife loves this new Mazda CX-5 a lot. We were comparing with Honda CR-V and CX-5. Technology and a product design wise, CX-5 is ahead of CR-V. The CR-V drives like a Odyssey, not much zoom zoom.

Hi all. Just got a Sky Blue AWD CX-5 Touring a couple days ago. No moon roof or Tech package. I love it so far. Handling is just like everyone is saying. Acceleration is good enough for me. It is a little sluggish on hills as others have said but guess that is the trade off for fuel efficiency. Havent used a tank yet but am curious to see where it comes out. No regrets at all. Love it

This car is the complete package. Best looking of any SUV and you really do get alot for your money. I have the AWD, but even the FWD handles like a sports car, but rides like a sedan. Touring models come pretty well equipped. It is definitely a little slow off the line, but there is power there if you need it. The manual mode on the automatic works great, and its just like driving a stick without the clutch. If the gas mileage really is 28-30 real world, then this truly is the best all around vehicle. I did not notice much difference in the upgrade to the Bose, so I stuck with the base radio since I didnt want a sunroof anyway. I might say the Bose is only slightly better.

After years of looking for just the right mix of features, price, and MPG rating I finally found what I wanted - the Mazda CX-5. I wanted an SUV or crossover with high-end features, a MPG rating at or near 30 mpg, for under $30,000. The Mazda CX-5 has it all. I purchased the Grand Touring edition as soon as it arrived at my local dealer's lot. I have 1,300 miles on the car after one month. I am getting consistently getting 30 mpg in mixed (city/hwy) driving conditions. I have not taken a road trip yet, so I don't know what my high end mileage will be for highway driving. I would not buy this car if I had a lot of hills or mountains. The acceleration on inclines is not that great.

I am a new owner of the CX 5. I test drove the other small SUVs like the CRV but when I drove the CX 5 it was miles above the others in handling. It feels like you are glued to the road. The build quality is excellent. The Bose sound system is time to party on ... no band needed. The safety features like the blind spot sensors are just another added detail to one fine car. I recommend if you are in the market for a small SUV /crossover try driving the CX 5. Have fun out there and keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road.

I purchased it 3-days ago and have 300-miles on it so far. I am very impressed with the CX-5 at this point. Mixed driving gave me 29-mpg (as calculated by me, not the computer) on the first fill. The mid-range torque of the engine is really impressive. It holds most grades in 6th gear. Acceleration is perfectly adequate at sea-level (Texas). Those at 5000-feet or with lots of steep hills might not be as satisfied. The steering feel, rigid chassis, great handling, feature content, interior materials and space, and interesting technology are the selling points. The great fuel economy is merely a bonus.

I have been scoping out the Mazda CX5 since December. Could not wait to see it in person. Love at first sight. Comfortable, roomy, stylish, and fun to drive. I test drove one last week and had to wait a week before the dealer found the color an options that I was looking for. Looked at many crossovers on the market. This one was worth waiting for. Glad I did.

My wife bought this vehicle on Monday, February 27th. This was going to be mine, but it does not have the manual transmission. Anyway, my wife really liked it and is replacing her 2003 Tribute ES-V6 AWD with the CX-5.
