Bought my 2012 used in august of 2013 with 5 thousand miles. I currently have 30 thousand on the car. Mine is modified. All suspension modifications. None to the engine, transmission, or exhaust. With some suspension modifications it transforms this car. I compete in autocross events and the car is competitive. Now don't get me wrong on a more laid out course it doesn't have the power to turn fast times. But on most courses I run that are small and tight the car is great. I know this doesn't apply to most people. Just saying the cars chassis is very good. The right setup makes for a very good neutral and balanced car. However this car has not been what I would say is reliable. My warranty runs out in August of 2017 and that scares me. Here is most things that have gone wrong: I have had 3 steering wheels replaced because of peeling, 2 shifters replaced because of peeling, multiple speakers, battery terminal fell off, gear in steering column broke, paint fade on molding by sunroof, rear hatch button disintegrated, and the radio has needed multiple updates. All these things have been covered under warranty. I call most of this stuff minor. The mechanicals of the car have been bulletproof so far. And I am not easy on the car. But nonetheless it is a trip to the dealer which is a hassle. Other things now. The acceleration isn't horrible. No its not fast by no means but it was never designed to be a fast car. People need to remember its an economy hatchback and not a sports car. Mine is a manual which is much better that the dual clutch automatics. The interior of the car is excellent save some of the crap material Hyundai like to call leather. The seat are some of the best I have ever sat in. The controls are easy to use. Overall I do enjoy this car and I do get a lot of compliments and I have been asked a lot "what kind of car is that". Its different and stands out. Like my title reads I have mixed feeling. I do like the car but I am concerned about repairs after the warranty runs out. Also mileage is ok. I drive mine mostly all city and get 28 mpg. And I drive it hard. On our trip to new Orleans 1500 miles round trip it got 38 mpg running 70 mph the whole way.

Hyundai Paint Problems

We bought the car new 4 years ago. The paint on the top and sides of the car has faded. The clear coat on the rear bumper peeled and the dealer would not repaint it citing the 3 year warranty on paint. Of course, the clear coat peel didn't show up until 3 1/2 years of ownership. If you are considering buying a used one look the paint over carefully. If you are considering a new one--DON'T BUY IT.

Great car exterior, acceleration is horrible

I was loaned this car while my new car was in line for being certified and it was not until another week from Fox Honda until my car was ready to drive. Exterior aesthetics are really nice, that's when I began to drive it I notice it was quite under performing. Brief overview, acceleration is like those in a manual transmission car; even though this car has both dual-clutch and 5-speed auto transmission. Suspension is horrible if you have no intention of driving over potholes, so it will be a very bumpy ride unless you navigate around them. The tires are thin, which is expected on a sports car like this. The upside is that it has Bluetooth and I paired it with my phone quite easily. Car also is equipped with XM Sirius, FM, AM, CD disc changer and you can charge your iPod/iPhone via USB. The car also sports an AUX port if you want to go old-school with music that uses 3.5mm headphone jack. One neat thing about this is that once you remove the key, the dashlight comes on for a brief 10-15 seconds for you to grab your things and exit.

Love the looks, disappointed on the whole

Mileage is great. Suspension is too harsh. Steering feels disconnected. Acceleration is poor, car is underpowered in my opinion. Brakes are great. Instrumentation layout and performance is very good. Navigation system is horrible; inaccurate and a rip-off in my opinion. Rattles in dashboard and now more are starting in other places in vehicle (60K miles). Awful smell coming from hvac system after about a year (a common problem - many internet posts about this). Interior looks 'cheap'. Low beam headlights don't illuminate the road far enough ahead. 4 season tires it came with were terrible in the snow - have since purchased other ones that are much better. One of the two automatic door lock\unlock\push button start failed after about 58000 miles. Rear view back up camera is great - better than others I have seen. This was the first sporty car I ever owned; I really like the way it looks. I wish I'd experience driving other sporty\sports cars before purchasing it. I would not buy this car again and would not recommend it. It is also the first Hyundai I ever purchased and I would be very reluctant to buy a different model Hyundai.

I am pleased with this car, this is my first Hyundai. I needed a bit larger car for commuting manual a must that would offer good mpg. I have been a Miata owner but needed space. Coming from manuals I will say the only thing I don't enjoy 100% is the plastic feel while shifting. Nothing like the two Mazda Miata I have owned. But the Veloster isn't a sports car!!!! For me the 1.6l is fine people bash it way to much. One thing I will say, I do my own maintenance and I STRONGLY Suggest a can of BG 44k. If you do your research online you can pick it up $21-24. It is the best fuel cleaner!!!! I throw a can in every 10,000 miles and every DI engine I have had gets 1-3more mpg. ( this is not to gain hp, or anything it's a very good cleaning agent, bye bye carbon) you will still need to get your valves/ Manifold cleaned if you want your car to last. This said I really enjoy my 2013 V with 48,000 miles. [non-permissible content removed]

2012 Black Veloster with 50K on it. I love love love my veloster. I treat this car as if it were my child. Its fun to drive. Eye catching. and Unique. It does have a lot of vibration you can feel the road more than other cars, I kind of like that though. People said the sound wasnt good - theres different settings I really like it. The tire situation kinda sucks. With the rims etc you will need more expensive tires. Im not sure if its because the car is low but I have put some bubbles in tires and had to get new ones.... which wasnt so great. I looooove the interior and the seats. It took a while to get use to the head rests though, not the most comfortable for my back but I adjusted to it. There ARE blindspots. I am a very experienced driver throughout NYC and multiple states - parallel parking is a talent of mine.. with this car it's not as easy as others due to blind spots. its also sometimes hard to gauge how far you are from stuff. With the seats down, this car fits A LOT even though its a compact hatchback. I love hatchbacks!! I think this car is great on gas. Thats a major bonus. But, like every other car it depends on where you drive/live. If you live outside of a major city the mpg is awesome. Ive hit 40-50 mpg before!!!!!! Snow. Ok... its awful in the snow. If you live in a place that gets a lot of snow -OR- you HAVE to get to a job or drive in any snow - this car is prob not for you. The tires get snow PACKED in them almost immediately, even in extremely light snow - turning the car into a SLED. But, hey.. you shouldnt be driving in the snow any way. Also, I recently got hit with 2 ft of snow and had to dig my car out. After the snow storm, next day I guess the rims got snow or ice packed into them. This CAN cause your car to vibrate like CRAZY on the highway over 50 mph. This can happen with a lot of cars... so make sure you clean it out real good. Keyless entry - I did have a problem with my remote/keyless entry. Im not sure what went wrong but the warranty covered it. Touch Screen - Am currently having issues with the clock it wont hold time. But luckily I can take it to the dealership. One day it ditched my bluetooth phone settings too. Not cool. 3rd Door - Somewhat useful if you have passengers (i dont) I wish they ditched the 3rd door because the car would look so much cooler. Everything else has been fine. My boyfriend currently has an older mercedes and wants to ditch it for the veloster. A lot of people say this car isnt fast.. it is fast...esp for a smaller car. .. its grrrreat for a 4 cyclinder. Oh, also if you have back problems, handicaps, or are really tall or fat...this is not the car for you. My dad is large..height and mass...and he struggles to get into the car and acts like hes being suffocated. My mother has hip issues and its harder for her to get in and out. Also, the doors are heavy and can be annoying because they fly back at you as your trying to get out or if the wind is blowing hard. If you have kids, this prob isnt the best car for you. I've had a toyota matrix which was really awesome and at 120K i had just replaced tires and a sensor. However, the veloster is soooo much more fun. So, you have kids? = matrix, go camping. No kids? = speed around town in your awesome veloster. I love my car sooo much

So much wrong with this car I can't even sell it.

My veloster has 50,000 miles on it and to paint a picture of how bad this car is ill name off all the things wrong with it. 1. The parking break doesn't work at all anymore 2. The sunroof has a whistle at highway speeds so I have to keep the cloth part shut 3. I have to skip fourth gear when accelerating because it grinds every time I try 4. I have to push the cruise control button anywhere from 1-15 times to get it to actually turn on 5. The steering wheel wrap has been peeling up since 20,000 miles 6. I had to tear the passenger handle costing off because it slightly pealed up and cut my friends finger 7. I had to replace the tires at 30,000 miles 8. Two speakers have blown 9. To hit a button on the navigation you have to press and inch below the button you want and hard 10. The sunvisor won't stay up. The piece that makes the visor hold itself up whenever you move it completely locked up and broke trying to put the visor up 11. The silver piece that goes over the parking break button for looks just fell off one day This car was obviously poorly designed and then built with poor materials as quickly as possible. I wish that I could get rid of it but who would be a 2012 with 50000 miles with these kinds of problems already showing themselves.

Worst car I've ever owned.

My sunroof shattered on me (while I had it open) it completely cut me up(face legs arms) when I took it in to get it fixed they said this had only happen to one other car, my car was returned to me the next day with all of my sunroof glass still inside my car and seats. I keep my car spotless and it had whatever they used to seal the sunroof on all over it. It looked like I had never washed my car ever in its life. I complained and refused to take the vehicle until it was completely detailed and glass was out of it. (Which took them 3 days) then 3 months later I got the recall letter on my sunroof. I also got my recall for the e-brake which seemed to me to be working fine. Took it in and got it fixed. I drive a manual and the gears grind all the time and I have the hardest time getting it into reverse/1st/2nd gear. Took it in as well and they told me nothing was wrong with the car that it was the driver. This year in June, I was at work and my car was parked, left in gear and with the e-brake up. I had an officer come pull me out of work saying my car had rolled into another car behind me because I forgot to put the e-brake up. He then walked with me to my car as I unlocked the doors he looked inside to see that my car was in gear with the e-brake up as far as it would go. Called Hyundai and took it in and they told me nothing was wrong with my car. My radio/touch screen has then decided to work on and off since backing up into the other vehicle. At times it won't turn on even after restarting the vehicle. And will randomly come on halfway to your destination. Hyundai also won't take fault for this. Hyundai is THE WORST car maker I have ever dealt with. I refuse to even look or buy another Hyundai vehicle.

The car if fun and sporty but I have had some issues. The dual clutch for AT sometimes grinds when shifting. Transmission is very jerky in stop-and-go traffic. The real problem is with Hyundai, its dealers and its "warranty". Twice my car was in for an intermittent problem misaligned touch screen. Each time the dealerships (I tried two) claimed to have applied a software fix. After the problem began again I took it to a third dealer who stated that the fixed were never actually applied. Now the radio is out of warranty (it's only 3/36) but Hyundai refuses to cover the fix even though promised work under warranty was never performed.

I have read a lot of bad reviews on this car but I must say I bought my veloster brand new and haven't had a single issue with it. Yes the tires are garbage but you will find these crappy tires on many new vehicles. I haven't had to replace mine yet with 40,000km but maybe next year. I rotate them every 10,000km. My car has never been back to the dealership partly because I have never had any issues with it and in part to the fact I don't trust dealerships. So I do all my own maintenance. The fuel economy is great and having a manual transmission I am able to find the power if I need it. All in all I am very happy with this car!

I bought the '12 Veloster in NYC and drove it cross-country to LA on my move, packed with two dogs, a girlfriend and more bags than I ever thought it could handle. I stopped mid-way on the trip at my parents' place and as I was unloading, my mother commented that it was like a clown car with the amount of luggage coming out of there. If you pack right, its' truly remarkable what you can fit. From a looks perspective, the Veloster was a little ahead of its time. People thought it was fantastic or ugly as sin. Now 3 years later I see a ton of them on the road in LA. Clearly, it's catching on.

I've had problems with my Veloster after hitting the 25,000 miles range. I had to replace my tires, twice, and after complaining to consumer affairs, I was sent a reply email basically telling me nothing is their fault. The Veloster does not come with a spare so I had to call road side assistance. Road Side assistance told me to go to the nearest Hyundai dealership....it was Sunday, they're closed. So, basically, Hyundai uses really bad tire manufacturers and then claims to have no sort of responsibilities for the types of tires they put on your car. The "touch screen" screen stopped working, even after having a recall and getting it fixed. I will never again purchase a Hyundai!!!

UPDATE! Owned the car for two years now, gas mileage is still great, no mechanical issues (knock on wood). Tired of the lack of power and crappy blind spots however. Overall though I still love her. I bought my 2012 Veloster used with the Hyundai CPO warranty and so far I love this car! It handles like a dream and is so much fun to drive, the features that this car has are great especially for the money! Super fun and fuel efficient!

Since receiving a letter in the mail about the recall on the sunroof in my 2012 Veloster; I've had issues with what the dealerships would and would not do to fix my car. I set up an appointment to get my sunroof tested for the recall issue and found out the dealership in Brunswick, GA didn't have the tools for the recall test. After repeatedly calling for weeks on the status of the tools, no response was given to me. I was driving home from work one day and my sunroof shattered. The dealership in Brunswick gave me alot of difficulty on how I would transport the vehicle to them for repairs. So I ended up having to tow it to the closest dealership in Valdosta, GA. Terrible service in Bwk, GA

I have owned my Veloster since the summer of 2012. I really wanted the manual as I have driven stick shifts since 1994. Unfortunately this thing has to be built by morons. I have had navigation issues, massive creaks and squeaks that are completely annoying and now with 25,000 miles on this car, the clutch has gone out! Are you kidding?! I have driven numerous vehicles that were standards. I have never had a clutch fail. Not once in 20 years of owning cars. Hyundai is saying wear and tear and I have to pay over $1000. Once I get the quote from the dealer, I am going to fight this like crazy. The clutch is only covered for 12 months or 12K miles? Hmmmm...maybe they knew it was crap?!

I am trading this car in after owning for a year and putting 20k miles on it. The transmission is garbage and Hundai knows it. We purchased the car because my wife liked the looks and because I have purchased two Hundai Elantras and they have been excellent cars. My 2009 Elantra has 100k miles on it and I have only done the standard maintenence on it, tires, belts, brakes and oil changes. It runs like a champ. This car is junk. It is my own fault for buying a car the year they release it with so much new technology on it, I should have known better. Hundai is practically begging me to trade this car in so I am going down to Hundai today to trade this in on a new Elantra.

After owning many Nissans, I switched over to Hyundai because I heard how great their warranty program was. What a mistake. The 2012 Veloster was the worst car I have ever owned. The low profile tires are worthless, constantly blowing out. There is no spare but you can buy one for $275.00. Hyundai lied about the gas mileage. Hyundai refused to provide a spare tire. I could not sell that car fast enough. I know someone with the exact car that needed a transmission after 15K miles. At least that was covered. The six tires that needed to be replaced weren't. Would never buy another Hyundai again.

I bought this car used in April of 2013. I absolutely love it!! I did my research, test drove a few different vehicles, but I found myself drawn to this beauty. Some people found that the performance was not to their liking, but I find it quite nice. I don't need a high performance car and this is a perfect fit. I love everything about it, but I really love that you get so much for such a low price. I love the tech and I feel spoiled using my push start button and rear view camera. It is a great economic and safe care for 20 year olds.

Where do I even begin... Bought my Veloster June 2012 and have put about 22,000 miles on it since then. 19 days after having the vehicle I was going down a major highway when my sunroof shattered on me. Glass EVERYWHERE! Dealership claimed that it was my fault but "since I am a first time buyer they would pick up on the cost". Dealership had my car for 14 days and I had to battle with them to get a renal car. Since then I have had it in the shop to replace the Climate Control Unit and the third time fixing the touch screen radio unit. Bought this car because I thought it would be reliable, great gas mileage, and fun to drive.... Boy was I wrong on that! Waiting for Lemon Law to take it away!

I got it back had it for almost 2 months and im going down the highway and my car starts smoking and then shuts off a tow truck comes and gets it brings it to the dealer and they said my engine cracked... i called hyundai and it took me 2 months to get anything done they game me a new one after all that had it for 3 days and my trans went out... gave up traded it for a good car.

I've had my Veloster for a little over a year and have driven 37,000 miles with it. I purchased this car because I needed something with great fuel economy, which I believe I got with the Veloster. It looks cool and looks like it would be fun to drive. It is neither. When I test drove the car I figured I could get used to the power issue and just thought of all the money I would be saving in gas. The trade off was not worth it. Update: Traded the car in after a year and a half of ownership for a used Audi A3. After much more research the Veloster would be one of the last cars I would choose if I could do it all over again.

I purchased my veloster 9 months ago and the vehicle is in the shop every other month for a problem. I've gone past the dealer and still Hyundai Canada is not doing anything. Its ridiculous on how they can sell a lemon and not take responsibility for there default merchandise. I cant even enjoy my vehicle and making payments on a car that spends more time at the dealer then with me.I'm very disappointed in hyundai and the customers satisfaction is there thing bullshit. Its excuse after excuse and they lie about the work they claim they did on the vehicle. Im extremely frustrated and ready to take further measures.

My husband bought the Veloster in 2012. He needed a car that had good gas mileage but with a somewhat sporty look. To give you an idea, next month will be a year and it already has 25k miles on it. Long story short within one week the car died, antifreeze everywhere, and they had to replace the gasket. It started shaking real bad and Hyundai did not want to let us trade it in. We went the BBB route and did not win. Took it in recently for FOUR recalls..the sunroof is known to shatter at high way speeds, the rear calibers had to be replaced and were a safety issue, the mileage was misadvertised and now we get a refund check for mileage every so often Buyer Beware. Run as fast as you can.

I wanted looks, and MPGs. That's what I exactly what I got. You want power, then get the turbo. If I want 'fast', I'll take the '66 Mustang for a spin. This car looks hot, handles great, and is everything I expected. Powered by a 1.6, I didn't expect a pace car. My previous car was a non-turbo Mini Cooper, and I find this one to be just as much fun.

I bought the Turbo, it is quick, handles well, has all the features I was looking for and is fun to drive. The seats are comfortable, even after driving for hours. I tend to drive fast and this car still gives me good gas mileage even when exceeding the speed limit for long stretches. I've had it to 120 a couple of times, still plenty of throttle to go. I've had it for a few months now and have put 6,000 miles on it, The car is cold natured - it doesn't perform well until the motor is warm. And getting it into 1st gear sometimes is a battle. Shifting up or down is easy - except for 1st gear.

I have 11500 miles on my veloster and I believe its everything as advertised. I get about 36 MPG 20% city 80% highway. The interior is cheesy, easy to scratch but what should you expect for the money. Bluetooth works well except when you have 2 phones stored it when you start off it looks for the last one that was stored, fails so you have to mannually connect it. When the moon roof is open it is very loud. The stereo system is good and the ride is smooth. The handling is as good as a mazda miata but the pickup from start is slow but to be expected from a 1.6L. Overall I am very pleased with the vehicle.

I've had my Veloster for 4 months now and I've had nothing but issues. The transmission has a design flaw which causes a lag in between 1 and 2. The check engine light kept lighting up like a Christmas tree with only 800 miles on it. The interior, although beautiful, is super squeaky when driving. The stereo will randomly lock on the screensaver and not work for hours at a time. And now my engine is starting to sputter randomly like it's not getting fuel. After driving used cars all my life, this was my first new car and I couldn't be more disappointed. It's had more issues than any used car I've ever owned and it's brand new. The worst part? Hyundai doesn't care.

I've had this little guy since April this year (about 6K mileage) and for the most part has met expectations. Very comfy ride and maneuverability. Depending upon highway surface, you may experience some side to side drifting. Just hang onto the steering wheel. Don't know if it's the tires or not. Like most other reviews, the one exception is the power perfomance factor. All I can say is if you want power, get a V8 cause this little guy is a dog; if you want mileage get this car. I'm averaging roughly 37 mpg but I do mostly highway driving. All in all a good buy but consider giving up some mpg for a little more power if that's important.

During my new car search, I read many reviews/articles comparing the most efficient gas sippers. The Veloster was not mentioned. Why? Perhaps the Veloster is so beautiful and fun that it seems more natural to compare it to sports cars. But the Veloster is not a sports car; it is the coolest economy car you can buy! The Veloster offers generous features and quality for your money. However, it is the car's sexy and innovative design that sets it apart. The Veloster is BEAUTIFUL! Strangers frequently approach me with compliments about my car's appearance, wanting to know more about it. I enjoy looking at my car as much as driving it. Like a work of art, the Veloster lifts my spirit.

I've got a marathon blue luxury package with an automatic that's been plagued with gremlins. The A/V system has been replaced but random transmission problems persist (DCT). On two occasions now the transmission has stopped working. Once the car would not move from a stop despite trying drive and reverse and everything in between. Today the vehicle spontaneously went into neutral at about 30 mph. After coasting to about 5 MPH the car started moving again. I plugged in my iPhone to the A/V system once and it never worked again. Hyundai was nice enough to pay for a new phone. We have two velosters--our second one is great.

In general it is a nice car, but the lack of power is just not something I can handle any longer. If you live in a place were you need to pull out into traffic ... DO NOT BUY THIS CAR ... or you will cause an accident. I got the fully loaded model with the tech and appearance package, moon roof, etc... but could not get home-link. The nav is easy to use with good graphics, the ride is ok, but sloppy when push to it's limits. The 38 mpg is only achieved when light-footed on the highway, otherwise the true milage is 27-28. In summary, I thought by buying a fully loaded model would somehow compensate for the lack of power ... I was wrong.

Had it in 6 times to fix the Blue Link, twice for the satellite radio, once to repair power mirror, once to replace defective door panel, they're refusing to fix bubbling paint on door saying it's "commercially acceptable" and are calling the new grinding in the transmission when reversing "characteristic of the vehicle. Car is only 3-1/2 months old and has been nothing but problems. Filed an arbitration claim with BBB but am now told the nearest office to hear the claim is a 5 hour drive away one way. Don't buy a Hyundai since they require you sign a BBB arbitration clause, unless you have a BBB site closer than 5 hours away.

I saw one of these on the road... stopped to test one on a whim one day when I was off work early... went back the next day and bought an electric blue one with the auto shifting double clutch. This car rules. I went and looked at other cars in this class, they cost more, and feature less. I took it on a 1600 mile road trip a week after buying it. The car saved my life from some crazy road rager, we drove circles around him. Powerful, fleet, surefooted, sexy and paying me back every time I go to the pump. Awesome!

I have had my car for one week!!! The battery died yesterday and the car was totally dead. I have only had the car for one week. When I called the dealership they said get the car jumped and bring it in. That would be fine but I live 1 1/2 hours from the dealership ro the closes one. I think a battery should be totally charged before you buy a car or least make sure it functions properly in a brand new car. I do love the looks of the car and the power is something else. I find it odd that a car drags when you turn the corner and dont try to turn in front of somebody cause they will be unhappy with you cause it takes a few minutes to get anywhere.

I traded my 2011 Fiesta with Dual Clutch Powershift for a Veloster with Dual Clutch EcoShift. The Fiesta was very clunky at low speed and my commute is a lot of crawling at less than 5mph. However I really like the idea of a Dual Clutch so I tested the Veloster and I can tell you the difference is astounding! The Veloster Dual Clutch Transmission is smooth, quiet and seamless...even smoother than many conventional Torque Converter transmissions I've driven. A lot of folks talk about the Veloster being slow...well that's a subjective opinion. It's certainly quicker than the Fiesta and while it's no sports-car it certainly gets up to highway speed quickly and without drama in my opinion.

I just bought my veloster 3 weeks ago. Unlike most people who have reviewed the car, I was looking for the baaase model. Which ended up being more difficult than expected. The reason for me wanting the base model was because of a tight budget, and knowing that the base model has more features than some mid level to higher end models of other "cheap" new vehicles. It drives great. It is sporty. It's not fast. But it also doesn't leave anything to be desired if you're commuting in it. It goes up hills and passes on the freeway just fine.

I bougth this car to save gas(mainly) ... however, i'd like to address the issue of acceleration. This vehicle is not the fastest out of the blocks but not a creeper when driven correctly. It's pretty fast once that second gear is achieved. When driving the autoshift it's even faster, don't be afraid to step on the gas while going up hill in auto transmission but one should downshift a bit when attempting to gain more power when using the very smooth auto shift clutch. I luv this car, it a lot if fun to drive. This is a fun and semi powerful car for it's class when driven correctly.

I bought my Veloster about a month ago. I traded in my 2003 Hyundai Tiburon which I LOVED for this car. I drive for a living so I put on about 25,000 miles a year and I need a small car for parking spaces with a large trunk for my medical devices, along w great gas mileage/good warranty/good price. I had a 4 cylinder Tiburon so I am used to the weaker power of the Veloster as well as feeling everything on the road (I feel less than w my Tiburon). My complaint is the MPG whether highway/city is NOT correct. I seem to have to get gas as much now as I did w my Tiburon that allegedly has 10-15 mpg less than the Veloster. I get compliments all the time and I do love the look.

To me, this car is the best combination of having good gas mileage (I'm averaging around 33 MPG currently, mix of city and hwy) and good looks. I'm partial to hatchbacks and this one is a looker. The interior quality is nice, nicer than the Mk4 VW Golf I owned in the past. The Dual Clutch transmission takes some getting used to (when you let off the brake, the clutch engages and car starts rolling, just like if you had a manual and put it into 1st gear). I like not having a "slush box" between the engine and wheels. Some people have complained about the lack of power. Sure, in 1st and 2nd gears it is fairly gutless, but once you get to 3rd it can really accelerate due to the low weight

Exciting exterior design is what drew my attention. And the high fuel efficient engine was what got me hooked. It's been about 2 weeks since I bought the car and I have been pleasantly surprised by the sporty handling. I have owned faster turbo engined cars that cost more but never had this many features. I love how frugal this car is on gas. The GDI engine was designed for regular grade gas and it is very efficient as well. I easily get 40 mpg on the highway and it seem to be the most efficient around 45-60 mph. I love how the 6 speed manual transmission shifter just slides and clicks into position. The clutch travel is very short and smooth compared to other cars I have driven.

I love this car and it certainly gets alot of looks. It rides well for its size and gets about 30 MPG mixed street and highway. It's noisey (hear the wind), when the sunroof is open but otherwise it is relatively quiet. I only have 2700 miles on it so it's difficult to rate it's reliability and total quality at this point. My only concern is with Hyundai service. Will the technicians be up to speed on this car when it comes time for service and troubleshooting issues, and will the dealership and hyundai honor their warranty. I also purchased the extended warranty as I tend to keep my cars long. The built in navigation system is challenging to use at times.

Have had this car for over one month and driven for over 1000 miles. This car is fun to drive, great gas milage, and pretty roomy on the front seats. I have no complain about the lack of power, that's what you have to sacrifice for gas milage. My complain about this car is the minor problems. The right rearview mirror cracked on the first day I drove this car, probably the heated mirror was overheated. Contacted dealer and got it fixed for free after almost a month. The second problem was the light in the cargo area. It stopped working about 10 days after I got the car. Hyundai service had hard time to diagnose the problem but told be it was fixed. However, the light stopped working two day

When considering the acceleration on the Veloster, you need to have some experience with other 1.6 engines. It is as good or better than the others. Having said that, with the gearing of the the 6 spd, expect to have to down shift if you want to accerate. I've had the car 5k miles and have no problem going up hills...but if you have to accerate going up a hill you will have to shift. I get about 38 combined mpg and scored 49 on a recent trip to the lake. Outside of a sooty exhaust and noisy suspension, its a very good car.

Even my golden retriever dosnt like the head space and he wants to go everywhere. The 18 inch wheels look cool but i think the normal size would give a better ride ,that our biggest complaint the second is the engine ,it has no power ,Everytime we go up our drive which is very steep the engine has started to moan ,This is what scares us the most..

My 2nd review after I drove to LA and back. The milage was not what was advertised, even freeway. The interior is fine with the exception of the headrest. If you are a short person - be cautious. It is designed for tall people - 5'7" and over. But the most disappointing aspect is the power - or lack there of I thought I was breaking the demographics as I am older, but it really is a very very cute little old ladies car. I may be an older lady and there is NO power. Going on an uphill on 101, which isn't much of a hill. I will dread driving to Tahoe or Yoemite . Except for the looks that is A++, this car is a disappointment.

First off, I really like this car. I bought it because I wanted something fun but practical. This is a perfect mix. The car handles great, the engine/transmission feels good, it has a TON of standard features, the full third door and roomy backseat are great for carrying kids, and the trunk is huge. I am constantly sitting at work itching to start my commute. Something I dreaded in my last car, a Toyota Yaris. So spending $18,000 out the door to get a car that does that is a really great value in my opinion. However, after driving it for 1,000 miles I'm questioning it's build quality. It's a brand new car so it's bound to have quirks, but it just doesn't feel as solid as my Toyota.

I researched the Veloster so when it was time to look they were just coming in and I didn't want the base model. Being my impatient self, I bought a Genesis Coupe (big mistake--different review) in Oct; just traded it in yesterday for the car I should have had in the first place, a black Veloster. The ride is smoother, more comfortable and the amenities are outstanding for a car in this class and price range. No disrespect to the Genesis (Coupe) but this car suits me so much better and I couldn't be happier!

Didn't even know this car existed until a few weeks ago, when I went to a dealership to check out an Elantra. Went home and did some research and read some reviews - I have to admit I was leery. I commute 100 miles round trip everyday. I was looking to replace a 10 year old Accord. Also have 3 kids (one is an infant). I was looking for really good MPG and in this economy, didn't want to be dropping a lot of coin (read: VALUE) I went back and test drove the Veloster and absolutely loved it! Bought one. It really is a lot of fun to drive, regardless of the HP. the 6 speed manual is smooth. I easily get 30 city and 40-44 hwy (36-38 combined!) - after a solid month of driving.

I know some reviews point to "poor acceleration" or what have you, but I have to say that for what I was going for, it is completely fine with me. I was looking for a good looking car that got good to great gas mileage. I absolutely Love the design of the Veloster (especially the rear end). When you get in, you would think you are riding in a car twice it's price. Very comfortable seats, everything you touch feels like it has a high end quality to it. I've had a few people in the back seat with no hiccups or complaints whatsoever. I simply love the amount of people who have pulled up next to me asking what it is!

The veloster is awesome, I love everything about it, the MPG (realistically 28/37 but I've got it up to around 32/42) and the mean front end. The car is a work of art and you really need to go test drive one to appreciate it, if you can find one, all of my dealerships sold out in a hurry. Speed demons (like me) will be disappointed at its speed off the line, but its makes up for that with handling, a smooth ride, great looks inside and out, and a pretty good warantee. I just turned 200 miles and the car is great. The shifter and clutch are light and accurate. The car is quiet and the ride is excellent. The car feels solid over bumps with no sqeaks or rattles. I thought the car would ride hard because of the 18" wheels and low aspect ratio tires but it is truly comfortable. I'm coming out of a 2008 Mini Cooper Clubman S w/manual and this car is so much better. The Mini was disappointing because of torque steer, rough ride, numerous squeaks and rattles and noise. The more I drive this car, the more I like it. The power is not as much as in the Mini but the car is surprisingly fast for the power rating. Drive this car before buying anything else.

WOW what a great car and what a great price.

I purchased a Veloster at Temecula Hundai. I looked at the CRZ across the street and the Veloster is the better car hands down. I was almost hit because people keep stating at the car while I am driving. Today some guy was hanging out of his truck stating and gave me a thumbs up. I was driving a Mitsubishi Eclipse and the Veloster has so many more features but the same great handling. From Blue Link to XM radio to USB ports and Eco Coach, this car has it all.

I just picked up this car a week ago and boy am I impressed. I traded in my 2005 Saab 9-3 Arc for this car and I have to say the Veloster blows the Saab out of the water. The standard features on this car are substantial from touch screen to blue tooth. Not to mention this car gets up to 40 mpg's on the highway, which is very good. I will say that the only thing that I miss is the speed from my last car, but the Veloster handles extremely wells and grips the road firmly, which I like. So far I am 100% happy with this car and am glad there are companies like Hyundai who understand "value" and honestly try and offer a customer everything at an amazing price point. It is also turns heads.

Wow - Couldn't be happier!!

Just purchased the 2012 Veloster - Fully Loaded with Style and Tech package white/grey leather combo. This was the ACTUAL car at the OC auto show that I fell in love with less than 24 hours before! On the drive back to the office, I got SEVERAL blinding stares on the freeway, including a few waves as well and thumbs up signs! I'm a bit of a car fanatic - this is actually my 3rd car in addition to a 350z and 2011 Ford Edge, and I can honestly say this car is as fun to drive as my 350z. Doesn't have the same power BUT the handling and grip to the road is superb. For having every option and getting out of the dealer for ~25k, I feel like this is a bargain and a HUGE bang for your buck!!

I took delivery of a 2012 Veloster this past Saturday. I had been looking real hard at the Honda CR-Z but there were just some things that Honda cut corners on and left off that car that just did not sit well with me. The hybrid motor was also a big turn off as it just over complicated the car and did not really increase its fuel economy. Enter the Hyunda Veloster. The Veloster is everything that the CR-Z wanted to be. More features, better ride, just as much power and better fuel economy with out the hybrid cost/complication. Unless Honda does something quick the CR-Z is dead in two years I predict.
