Purchased the SE used with 83,000 miles and so far have loved it. Within 1 month, traveled nearly 3000 miles-1 long road trip and it drove great. Plenty of room, quiet ride and great sound on Sirius/XM. Rear camera is nice to let you know something is there but do not trust it to back into a parking spot

After years of owning domestic vehicles, I antied up and paid the big bucks for a Toyota. What a disappointment. The vehicle seemed great at first, but we didn't notice that it rode like a truck until our first road trip. The 3rd row seats are a joke - none of our kids will sit back there so long trips became a nightmare with 3 kids. The navigation feature was klunky and we battled leaks around the moonroof. We also noted that it lacked features like convenient charging ports for devices. MPG was less than reported, but that is typical. The vehicle starts / stops and ran reliably, but for $40K, you expect a lot more. We were so happy to trade out of it!

Beware of the rear hatch automatic open/close issue. Quick online search will bring up more details about it and Toyota service bulleting issued to dealerships. We purchased ours new and always have had it serviced at the dealership. After owning for just over 3 years, the arm of the mechanism which auto. opens/closes the rear hatch broke loose while it was closing. Had to fight with dealership for several days because they stated it was not covered under factory NOR extended warranty. Only after a lot of time & effort back & forth with them did they agree to fix it as "goodwill". Just over a year later, the same issue happened again. This is when we found online info about service bulletin and apparent class action suit in CA over rear hatch issues. Dealership is refusing to make repairs and we are stuck. Before you purchase, check to make sure you are comfortable closing the rear hatch manually as the issue we have dealt with now multiple times is common.

Love it. Maybe it's just the right vehicle at the right time, but I like it better than anything else I have owned. Sports cars, sedans, other SUVs. This is the best. Mine has every option available, if there were any faults I would say that Toyota reserved a few options for the RX350, ventilated cooled seats would be great also memory seats. Other than that, I find this to be an exceptional vehicle. Quiet, very comfortable, rides like a dream. AWD is 50/50 front rear and it really works great in rain and snow.

This is the 3rd Toyota Highlander we have owned - started with the 2002 Limited. This car has served us very well. Great design, load a lot of stuff inside, great on long trips. I think the highlander is one of the best SUVs on the market today. Very reliable.

Highlanders are such a dependable and safe vehicle. I have had mine for almost five years and it has been 100% trouble free - 100% Friends and neighbors are constantly taking both Swedish and American models into the shop. Not with a Toyota - you can depend on a Toyota, day after day, week after week, year after year. First Toyota I have owned. I will always own a Toyota!

The only negative regarding this car relates to quality issues (power windows and sun visor) and specifically the way the dealership and Toyota executed their customer service. Otherwise, the vehicle is a joy to drive and (so far) very reliable. The driver's sun visor has broken twice in less than three years. The dealership, Rice Toyota, and Toyota have, in the end replaced the sun visor at no charge, however Toyota corp's customer service has disappointed me due to failed follow up promises. The power window failed due to a nut that came off the window...a repair we paid for. These relatively "minor' repairs make me less positive toward the brand's quality and customer service.

I tried to like it, but at the end trade it in for Mazda CX-9 Grand Touring only after 1 year.

Positive: Suppose to have stellar reliability and has a good resale, quick, relatively roomy and comfortable if you are not a driver. Negatives: Most surfaces and materials don't belong in $40,000 car (ok with me) , drives like minivan/truck crossover with very light and not communicative steering (does not drives, but floats), 3 rd row not usable - not just because of size/just plywood covered in cheap vinyl, no blind spot monitoring ( a must because of size, blind spots), no adaptive xenon headlights, average MPG for it size ( computer always overstate by 1 MPG). Toyota keeps being arrogant and substantially raised prices for 2012 without any improvements, that worked in my favor. My last 5 cars were Toyota's. After buying my first Mazda and then a Subaru I discovered that they are build as good or better than Toyota and pleasure to drive. Checked with Consumer reports and others and discovered that it is not only my opinion: Subaru and Mazda are higher rated that Toyota. Replaced 2011 Highlander Limited with 2012 CX-9 GT for only $2000 extra (no financing): pleasure to drive and handing like compact CUV/sedan (yet substantially bigger than Highlander), very usable 3rd row, near luxury interior/exterior, all the extras and safety futures not even available in Highlander, reliability should be terrific also - six year of the model and built in Japan.

Stay away from the Pricy Nav System

Good overall, but it doesn't mean competition is bad. If you're interested in the Nav, the only advantage you'll get for $2000 extra is the bigger backup camera screen. Nav is terrible for $2000. TOYOTA MUST GIVE AWAY this nav rather than sell it. It's very old tech. Many owners also get lost because they can't park the car just to make corrections. Voice command is very ancient and limited (only 3 entries shown at a time). Save the $2000, buy the high-end portable nav, and keep the difference. You'll get better and safer guidance. I drive with the screen always off because of the frustrating User interface.

Hello, The Highlander is the best in the segment i would say. The ride quality is far better than other suvs in this segment. You got to drive this decent SUV ... I am sure there will be no one who would not love it. My wife insisted on buying this car as a family vehicle. The car is very comfortable, quiet and has good acceleration. It's spacious, loads lots of stuff and has been reliable. Fuel economy is good for the class, but nothing to bragg about (it is after all a hulking SUV). We average about 22 miles/gallon. On the negative side, the car has prominet torque steer if you make use of only half the power, the steering is as numb as could be and the car floats more than it drives. Excitement factor is zero. It's totally incapable in snow despite its appearance. Rear visibility is very poor and the backup camera a must. Blue tooth is very basic and doesn't switch between different phones.

Excellent vehicle overall. Excellent alternative to a van. Previously owned vans for the past 10 years (Sienna & Odyssey). It was time for a change. We shopped around for the best mid size replacement as an alternative to a van at our price point. Our biggest concern was loosing the versatility of a van, which will always be there. We drove the Ford Edge, GMC Terrain, and Toyota Venza. Of the three we ruled out the Edge & Terrain. The Venza was the best of the three. We then realized a must for us was a 3rd seat to accomodate additional passengers as needed. We realized we had to increase our price point & test drove the Highlander. We immediately realized this to be a perfect fit.

Please tell me how you're all getting such great gas mileage and liking this car! I live in a fairly flat city and am getting 17 city/23 freeway. And, this car sure does rattle a lot for a brand new car and what's wrong with the front end suspension? After two trips to the dealer, the rattles are still there and the car still shimmied (they "cannot duplicate" either complaint.) Finally had an independent tire shop balance all four tires and align 3 of the 4 tires, which helped but something still isn't right. The dealer said to file a complaint with headquarters if I want to be reimbursed my $130. I guess I should have comfort in knowing I leased rather than buy this. Only 3 more years....

My 2006 Highlander is still going strong, without any problems. It's been a fun, reliable, and totally worthwhile ride. We're getting ready to retire a 1989 Corolla, and the plan is to get another Highlander.

I purchased this Highlander Limited early August and have about 2500 miles on it. I just completed a trip from Phoenix to San Diego. I bought the car for the smooth, quiet ride and performance and it has not disappointed. I had test drove an Infiniti SUV and the Acura MDX. Overall, I am happy with the car. The gas mileage has ranged from 19.4 to 22mpg. My Low fuel warning light is coming on too early with about 4.5 gal remaining in tank. This is around 322 miles which is very irritating. I think the Navigation system is too complicated as evidenced by the large instruction manual. Cargo cover installation is a pain. We really need ventilated seats in AZ.

This is such a great car - it can haul all of my stuff, my kids' stuff and it looks great. The best part is, nothing really ever goes wrong with a Toyota. This is my 2nd Highlander. I looked at so many different cars, but I just kept coming back to the Highlander because I couldn't find anything I liked as well in my price range.

I bought my highlander (HL) about 3 month ago, and I would like to share with you guys. 1. HL is surprisingly roomy especially the 2nd row. For the 3rd seat, recommend just short distance. 2. It is quick and feels light when it's on the road (quickest in its class). 3. start stop button: Keyless. Very convenient. If you used own Germany (In my case, Benz), it's different. Someone says no fun driving, but keep in mind this is SUV not a sport car. Overall, I am satisfied with HL for everyday driving SUV.

We previously had an '07 Tahoe and realized that our family didn't need all of the extra girth, nor did we want to keep paying $85 for a tank of gas. The Highlander so far has been a great vehicle! We're averaging close to 22 MPG which includes a good deal of stop-and-go in-town driving. The third row seat shouldn't be counted on unless you're in a pinch. The DVD entertainment system has kept the kids happy in the back seat on longer rides. We opted for the Limited edition to get all of the tech-options, but still managed to get a good deal -- close to 10% below MSRP.

Took our new Highlander on a 10 day, 2400 mile trip starting with only 200 miles on the odometer when we left home. With so few miles on the vehicle, I wasn't expecting it to average 23 mpg on the trip, but it did. 1600 miles were on the highway, and the balance driven around town. The ride was comfortable plus, the cabin is roomy, and very quiet. Decent sound system too. The instrument panel is laid out very thoughtfully, everything is in easy reach for the driver causing no distractions.

We are senior couple and have about 1200 miles on the highlander. We are averaging just over 24 MPG, and on our three trips of about 90 miles each we got right at 30 mpg. This was driving mostly on rural highways, with about 35 miles of interstate at about 72 to 73 MPH and about 62 MPH otherwise. The wife thinks the seats are not as soft as our '04 Grand Cherokee, and the passenger seat is manual only, but that has already turned out to be a non-issue. In addition to the very good mileage we immediately noticed how much more quite it was than the Jeep. It is close to the same size as the Jeep but can seat 7. We've had six adults in once for a short thirty minute drive and no complaints

I finally decided to give up on Honda. The road noise in my last Honda was just too pronounced! But my Highlander is one quiet ride! The V6 provides outstanding acceleration too. Though, it doesn't handle like a sports car and have great off-road manners, it does exactly what I want -- provide a stable, quiet ride. It also provides great flexibility with seating and the seats are quickly and easily folded in order to haul more cargo.

Just received our new Toyota Highlander, Limited FWD last week. It has been a pleasure to drive, and since I bought it for my wife, I haven't had much of a chance to drive it myself. Extremely comfortable, quiet and easy on the road. First tank is showing about 18.8 mpg in mixed driving. Hoping that it goes up a little as we break it in. When on a flat highway, for about 30 miles, it showed 23 mpg. Car feels bigger than what it is. Plenty of leg room in the back and front. The test will be 6 month to 1 year into the purchase - will follow-up then.

We went back and forth for months between the Honda Pilot and the Toyota Highlander. We finally chose the Highlander because of the smooth car like ride and spacious middle row. The visibility is quite good and I forget that I'm driving a fairly large car because it seems quite nimble. With that said, there have been a couple of disappointments. I had to take it in within the first 100 miles for an alignment issue and more recently (now at 350 miles) I've noticed that the driver's side door has a tinny, rattling noise when it's closed. I really dislike waiting for 3 plus hours at a dealership to repair things that should have been assembled correctly at a factory.

I bought this vehicle in mid March. Honestly, I cannot find one thing wrong with this vehicle of any substance. From its beefy outside looks for 2011 to the luxurious interior this vehicle rocks! The engine is buttery smooth and quiet. Coupled with the transmission the driving experience is wonderful. Great pickup, horsepower, and acceleration. I got the navigation package which includes the JBL sound system. It all is working seamlessly. There is a lot of interior space, seats are comfortable, third row seating can be folded individually, auto climate system is great, dashboard controls and layout is first class. My gas mileage has steadily increased from 16.2 to 18.4 mpg.

I purchased my V6 Base AWD Highlander early December 2010 because I was expecting my second child in January and simply wanted something affordable, safe and solid to drive the family around in. After an extensive pre-purchase research and 3,000 miles later, I can best described the Highlander as the Mario of SUVs. The Highlander, much like Mario in the Super Mario Brother video game franchise, is not the biggest, strongest, fastest or best looking SUV around. But it just seems to do everything just right (e.g., affordability, fit and finish, interior space / configuration, engine, controls, safety features, comfort, dash layout, MPG) much like Mario. So it is the perfect all-around SUV

I bought my highlander with the trailer page. All the printed material clearly states the package come with a wiring harness. When I got it home I found no such harness. A check at nthe dealer confirmed there was no such harness, it must be purchased. Most of the in the service department were aware of this fact. After a discussion with the sales department, they agreed with me that the printed material from Toyota and the window sticker clearly stqated that a harness was included in the trailer package. The sales department had it installed at no charge. Cramer Toyota of Venice Florida did an excellent job of resolving my problem. but Toyota clearly has an advertising problem .

I purchased this SUV 5 days ago. after driving 390 miles I calculated 27.8 MPG after my 1st tank fill, 70% hy 30% city driving. The 4cyl is a little noisy in the lower gears as oppose to the v6 however it performs well. I purchased the base model with the tech package option. (a must to have if you own a IPOD) I have 3 kids & decided to choose this model when Toyota changed the 3rd row on the 2011 Highlander from a single row to a split. This allows my son to sit in the back with the other seat down for more storage.

We bought this car 9 days ago and have managed to put about 500 miles on it with a long Spring Break weekend included. So far we are averaging about 23 MPG city and 27 MPG highway, so it is beating my gas mileage expectations for choosing the 4 cylinder. This is a pretty powerful 4 cylinder, so it performs very well - even with it packed with family and luggage. If you test drive one, you will be pleased. There is a little bit of noise at low gears, but the 6 speed makes it pretty quiet afterwards. This base model has everything I actually use on a car, so we are happy. The interior is very pleasant and the looks outside are very sharp, especially with all of the chrome. Good buy!

I picked up my Highlander Limited AWD on Tue. Thurs my wife and I headed out on a 500 plus mile long weekend (37th anniversary). I had been checking out the Buick Enclave, but couldn't get the price I wanted. I'd been to the ACC tourney and Toyota had a couple of cars in one of the tents. Saw the Highlander Limited.......liked the price and looks (especially interior). Visited nearby dealership and drove one. Fairly impressed. Looked online and got a price I liked..and made the deal. On our trip through the mountains of NC, TN, and VA.......it was much better than expected. Quiet, smooth, comfortable.......pleasure to travel in. Enjoyed it as much as my wife's infinity M35.

What a difference from our 05 4-Runner. After reading the scathing reviews for the 11 4-Runner, we chose the Highlander Limited. We cannot believe hoe much more room there is in the Highlander. Our 6'6" son can easily fit behind the wheel and in the second seat. Plenty of head and leg room all around. The V6 is smooth, powerful and really quiet. The navigation system will take a little while to master, but so far I have not become discouraged. I really like the re-design and the interior fit and finish are really Lexus-like. I am very pleased with our decision and expect to enjoy this vehicle for many years to come.

I bought my Highlander about 1 month ago, and it's a dream to drive. I am running about 19 mpg, taking it easy on the throttle. On trips she is a dream. I previously drove a 08 FJ Cruiser and loved it, but had enough with the noise in the cabin. The Higjlander is a Fantastic SUV, as it feels more like a luxury car no more road noise either.

Having traded in our '04 Camry, this Highlander is our 5th Toyota. The styling for 2011 is much improved over the '08-'10 version and can actually be called a "looker". After 2 weeks of owning it, I've had two strangers stop me and ask about it. Having a great time with the navigation system and bluetooth phone set up and the entertainment system seems to work well (kids and grandchild). At first, I was a little daunted by all the electronics and technology, but I'm one of those guys who does read the manuals (no fewer than 6 came with the car) and learning how to use everything is fun. The best part is, it's a Toyota and everything works as it was designed to.

We turned in our 07 Lexus 350ES and got this SUV. The feel and drive of the SUV is very nice inside and out as you expect such from Toyota. However, there are few things lacking to be perfect. I hope Toyota address them for the future production. 1. Memory Seat buttons for driver and passenger seats-It would be nice not to adjust the seat settings everytime you take turn for driving. 2. More sitting options for passenger seat-should be comparable to that of of driver's. 3. Wooden panel for window open/close button-overall, the car feels luxury, exept for this cheap plastic panel. If 1,2,3 are addressed, then this SUV can be called 'perfect' in my opinion.

I rented a 2011 toyota highlander for a week. It was what I Expected from toyota. It has the same kind of bumpy ride as normal suvs because i used to own a 2000 toyota 4runner and now i own a 2010 toyota venza 4cyl. I loved the ride height! The interior is great it doesnt feel very cheap. I'm thinking about leasing it like my venza. Its awesome in the snow!

After a two year search I finally HAD to get a car when my engine blew. I have to admit I didn't like anything out there. I even disliked the Highlander at first glance but discovered it was the basic I saw. I forced myself to go back and look again after hearing a friend rave about theirs. Sure enough the molding on the side panel for the Limited made all the difference in the world, and when I opened the door... WOW! I was in love. This car feels like a Land Rover when you sit in it. It's more solid than anything else I tested, which was everything else. The interior can only be compared to the luxury of Lexus. It is whisper quiet to drive & amazingly comfortable. I love it!

I purchased a 2011 Highlander Limited 4WD at the beginning of December 2010, in one month I have managed to put just over 3000 miles on the car (yes, I drive a ton). It's hard to find anything this SUV doesn't do well. Granted, it's not BMW-quick and doesn't sip gas like a Prius, but overall the SUV is easy on the eyes, drives like a dream and bottom line I am 99.9% satisfied...I really wish I could get Prius-like gas mileage out of my Highlander (wouldn't we all!) but otherwise the SUV is fantastic! I traded my 2008 Toyota Tundra Crewmax Limited (black & loaded just like in the commercials) for my Highlander and while I miss my truck. Again, the Highlander just keeps growing on me!

The lease on our base model 08 AWD Highlander concluded this month. We very much enjoyed the 08 and decided to purchase a replacement. On 12/18/2010 we picked up a 2011 with the tech package. We especially appreciate the upgraded stereo/sat. radio, blue tooth, back up camera, and rear window hatch in the new vehicle. The drive is identical to the 08. No signficant problems noted following delivery...just a minor rattle from the rear hatch that we will have the dealer address at some point.

The build quality is solid the layout of dash well thought out and the cabin user-friendly. The drive is very quiet and the seats are very comfortable. (good for long driving distance) The integrated Navigation, Bluetooth and JBL sound system are easy to use and sounds great. Got the tow package to pull my boat, good for 5000 lbs. Live in the north and the awd V6 engine is powerful and handles the snow very well.

When the lease expired on our 2008 Highlander Sport we looked at the entire SUV market and ultimately chose to lease another Highlander on 12-15-10. We did upgrade to the Limited. Interior appearance & finish are comparable to Lexus & Acura SUV's and far superior to Kia Sorento SX. Only exterior knock is the new headlight styling, which looks like a hammerhead shark. We used our former Highlander for comfortable long road trips and look forward to using the new one with GPS and XM. While we didn't want the DVD, it came with the vehicle and our three grandchildren love it. "Let's ride in grandma's car" is a common refrain.

I bought this to replace a 2006 Subaru Forester and I am not disappointed! Tons more space for our family (2kids), comparable mileage, great power, and a much better all around ride (comfort, noise, etc.) I am getting about 23.5mpg over all (with a decent amount of highway miles) which is about what I got with the Forester. I highly encourage you to get the tech package -- not cheap, but it makes the car so much more fun (and if you're going to spend a lot of time in it, I think it's worth it.) Also, I tried the base 4 cylinder and I found it lacking in power and much louder than the 6 cylinder. All around, this is a great car!

Interior is well thought out, with lots of storage, amenities and the heating/cooling system well distributed through out the car. Solid feeling ride with limited road/wind noise. Able to tow 5000 lbs. Full spare which comes in Handy when traveling. Still own 2004 Highlander limited wish has great reliability record.

We splurged on the 4WD Limited and glad we did! This made in USA SUV is a pleasure to drive; a quiet, comfortable ride with ample power on demand. Toyota makes a great V6 engine. Really like the new front end design. Limited features at the top of my list include Smart Key keyless entry, push button start, JBL stereo w/XM, heated seats, back up camera. Find the MPG display gauge useful too. MPG has been about 20 on first 2 tanks - good but could be better. Snow is here and I can hardly tell! Drives very securely through snow and slush. Haven't had to engage the "snow" mode yet. This is a great family vehicle. Kids ask all the time to drive in it.

Splurged and bought the Limited HL, and we're glad we did. Pleased to know it's made in the USA too! The new redesigned front end for 2011 looks sharp. Love the Limited's Smart Key keyless entry system, pushbutton start, reverse camera, heated seats. Also appreciate the MPG gauge. JBL stereo w/XM is wonderful. This SUV is solid and drives smooth and comfortably. Power/acceleration on demand. Toyota makes a great V6 engine. Lots of safety features + airbags galore, so safety is a given. The kids love our HL too, especially the roomy second row seats and their own temperature control. Our first 2 tanks of gas we averaged 20 mpg, which is OK for a 4000 lb vehicle.

This SUV surprised me with a smooth ride and luxury like features for the price. One this is that I now have 3000 miles and heard a knocking noise in my steering. Took it to the dealer and they replaced parts of the steering column. I just hope this isn't the start of a sour relationship because I love this thing.

Bought this car for my wife, both of us love it. It is responsive, low road noise, fun to drive and feels like a quality vehicle. With no problems noted in first 500 miles, not really sure about how to rate reliability other than my research on past model highlanders so I gave it a 9. This crossover SUV has just about every comfort feature one could want and its interior design is well thought out. We RV/ camp a lot, I pull the camper with my truck and my wife pulls my boat, so the ability to occasionally tow up to 5000 lbs with tow pkg prep and accessory options was part of purchase decision. Safety features and rating were also a consideration in our decision to purchase the Highlander.

1st time driving/purchasing an SUV. Major selling point is the 3rd row seats for the kids. Purchased w/ the Tech package which I recommend for comfort and some bells and whistles over the basic w/o options- also the tow package increases towing to a functional 3500 lbs. So far drove about 400 miles- 50% hwy and 50% city- according to the mileage display, averaging ~27 miles/gallon. I4 engine and transmission is geared for surprisingly good acceleration for a 4 cylinder/medium SUV. Only complaint is the speedometer reads about 3 miles greater than my GPS speed.

Recent purchase. Avg MPG is about 22 or 23 combined. Interior is well thought out, with lots of storage and amenities. Limited road/wind noise. Got the tech package, which added heated mirrors and back-up camera. Only complaint is that the cargo cover takes up valuable storage area in the back. Love the 2nd row stow and go.
