General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2011-2013 Volt vehicles manufactured August 25, 2010, to June 26, 2013. If the driver exits the vehicle without turning off the electrical system, the battery may drain low enough that the gasoline engine will automatically start itself to recharge the electric battery.

I purchased one of the first ones made. Drove it almost 5 years only using gas on road trips. Just traded it in for a new 2016, hope it's as good. Best car I have ever owned.

This car is fun to drive especially in sport mode. My first oil change was at 35K miles and it was free, so far no repairs (except the couple minor recalls) $0 spend in over 2 years I don't know why if you check the cost to own it it says: Maintenance first year $166 second year $317, not true $0 spend Repairs first year $80 second year $191, not true $0 spend I din't spend a dime in over 3 years In October 2016 was 3 years and 68K miles already without any issues at all, very very satisfied with this car. Cons. The only complain is the middle arm rest it is kind of hard and it should be a bit forward, the radio doesn't remember the last time it was on, it was in bluetooth input, and for some reason it goes to radio how did edmunds come up with this numbers ? http://www.edmunds.com/chevrolet/volt/2013/st-200424007/cost-to-own/

In love, at first, several trips to the dealer during the first six weeks for "unexplained" engine error messages", almost made me invoke the "Lemon Law". Life settled down after a computer upgrade...until early in the 5th month that I owned the car. At that point, a full charge became less and less miles. I began at 38 - 40 miles ev per charge and now I am at best, 23 -24 miles ev. The Chevy Volt team and my local dealer state that it is the weather and the way that I drive it. First of all...the way I drive it should not change the battery capacity. Secondly, it is not even cold yet...average temp approx. 42 degrees. Thirdly, I charge it in a heated garage.

I'm a car nut-- have owned everything from Bentley's to Hondas to Lincolns to Porsches. My partner wanted the Volt, and I was skeptical. I was wrong. After 1500 miles, it is the car we choose for family outings (our other cars are '11 Audi A8 and and a '10 Audi Q7 TDI, both of which we love). Why? The Volt is silent. It is quick. It has fun technology that works! It has a refined manner-- much more refined than our Lexus 400h hybrid was. Most of all-- it is versatile. Knowing there is a gas generator to keep you going after the battery is exhausted on long trips, takes the stress out of trip planning. Full recharge takes only 4 hours, but is unnecessary if it's inconvenient.

I have owned my Volt since mid-March, and have used exactly 20 gallons of gas over 3100 miles. Most of my daily driving is done in all electric mode, but I did take one 80 mile trip and one 750 mile trip. On the long trip I did not recharge and averaged 41 mpg in charge-sustaining mode. I also own a Prius and feel that the Volt, though a bit smaller, is a big leap forward over that fine car. The Volt is quicker, handles better, is quieter, has much lower operating cost/mile (i pay only $0.10 per kWh), and has been totally glitch free. It's an astonishing achievement.

I bought the Chevy volt for one reason only. I'm a business man who drives around 300 miles almost everyday. Driving both city and highway averages 104mpg. Im glad I got this and not the Prius.

My Volt is incredible. My lifetime mpg is 112 and rising. I've driven over 1000 miles without any gas. I didn't buy any gas the first month I owed it. It has a sport mode that makes it fun and sporty to drive with speed to jerk your head back. It's as powerful as a V-6. I'm loving it.

I have only had my volt #2499 for a week and am I impressed. The car, the concept, everything about it is game changing. My other car is a CTS-V and it has been parked ever since I got the Volt. The only problem is that my wife wants to trade her SUV and get one too. Saving gas $$ is not my objective - using the cutting edge technology and proving it in everyday use is the fun part. What a tribute to the team that put this vehicle together and brought it to market. Let's hope to "Halo effect" spills over and helps all of GM.

The Volt is my first American car, ever. I currently also have a VW and SAAB. The ride and handling to me are very much like a European vehicle. The Volt is smooth and firm, with some heft to it, but is also comfortable with a compliant ride. It absorbs bumps very well and exceeded my expectations when I test drove it. The acceleration in "normal" mode is adequate. In "sport" mode, it is a blast to drive. The car is also eerily quiet in EV mode. The fit and finish are impressive. This is an extremely well thought out vehicle. The change over to extended mode is absolutely seemless. Other than the display on the dash, there was no way to tell that the gas engine engaged.

I purchased my Volt and took delivery on December 18, 2010. I've gone about 1500 miles so far and burned about 20 gallons of gas, mostly due to a few long trips [200 miles each]. Even on those trips, my mileage was in the 40-50 mile range. My overall mileage is about 75mpg. But when I was not taking those trips, I could easily drive around town, to work, etc, on the 40 miles or so range, using all battery and electric drive. There is nothing better than that! The car drives solidly, crisp turning, and more than decent acceleration. The best acceleration is in LOW using SPORT mode. Seats are comfortable, and the fit and finish is quite good.

Now in my second month and still have not used more than 2 gallons of gas. The car is surprisingly responsive, feels solid and has had no bugs, defects or annoyances that sometimes accompany new purchases. My average battery range is about 42 miles, but with the range extending on-board generator, there is no anxiety whatsoever about "getting there" as the range is essentially the same as a traditional gas powered vehicle. Moving from my prior Mercedes S 430, I find the Volt to be a remarkably well engineered product. Clearly someone is paying attention to the quality at the end of the production line.

I know the title is saying a lot, but I mean it sincerely. The Volt (VIN 541) is absolutely the best car I've ever driven. It's quick, nimble, stylish, and simply incomparable from a technology standpoint. Electric driving is amazing. From a dead stop, it's the best. And zipping around traffic on the highway is just as good. The Volt's range extender is what makes this a practical primary vehicle--no range anxiety. Most days the car never burns a drop of gasoline (my commute is around 20 miles). But this past weekend, driving two hours and back (about 250 miles) was a piece of cake. I never even stopped for gas! Everyone who has been in my Volt has loved it--especially me!

I picked up the first Volt delivered in North Jersey on December 17th, and went 1020 miles over 47 days before I visited the pump. I could've gone longer, but I was getting low on my first tank and there was an ice storm coming, so I filled up for safety, and haven't used gas since filling up. Pretty amazing if you ask me.

This is one great car! Fit, finish, ride, snow handling, zip, fun, and economical. I have a 72-mile round trip commute and am getting near 40 miles of that on battery and the rest on the gasoline generator. I am averaging just over 110 mpg in the generator mode. It is a car that was made with pride and meant to satisfy. I have the leather seats with seat warmers and the backup camera. Both are great additions. GM is very solicitous of my opinion and suggestions and the dealer gives red carpet treatment.

When I first read that GM was coming out with an EV and that it would only get 40 miles per charge and then use a gas engine generator after that I was very disappointed. I thought why bother? After all I had built a BEV in 2001 that had a 70 mile range. But as I continued to read about the Volt and think about what GM was trying to do with it, I realized this was an absolute brilliant interim solution to the current EV catch-22. Batteries are too expensive and performance too limited to make a pure EV viable, a pure EV won’t be viable until batteries are cheaper and performance is better. GM’s solution was to put just enough batteries to cover the daily commute of 80% of the people.

Well actually I Love my VOLT except for the climate control system. It takes 5 mintues for the heater to start putting out warm air and you have to run the fan durning that time or you will never get heat. As if that is not bad enough it runs the A/C during this time to dehumitify the air. When its 40 degrees in the car I don't want it to blow cold air and I certainly don't want the A/C on. The rest of the car is everthing I had hoped for. I have driven it over 1200 miles and my average is over 160mpg. I am still running off the gas that came with the car. I like to go fast, I don't drive like a Prius driver, I like to drive in Sport mode and it is extremelly fun to drive.

I have owned my red Chevrolet Volt for 20 days now. This car is mainly used for my work commute. Although I have taken two 70 mile drives to show the car to family. The odometer reads 990 miles total with just 2.1 gallons of gasoline burned. The Volt is driven by an electric motor all of the time. A small generator is available if travel over 35-40 miles battery is needed. It has been said that driving the Volt feels like flying. It really does. The low end acceleration is ample. The styling of the Volt rivals that of others cars I have owned. One of these being a 70's era Cobra II. My 19 year old son is thrilled to ride in our electric Volt. Full battery charge is 3.5 hours at 240V.

I love my Volt more then my Ferrari...

As an enthusiastic car lover/collector/enthusiast, the Volt is about the coolest car I have ever owned, I have VIN 772. This thing has exceeded all my expectations in Quality, Styling, Ride, Acceleration, Efficiency. Chose to lease it for $350 a month and will most likely buy it at the end of the lease. My Lifetime MPG is 137 with a little over a 1k miles driven so far, which includes two 150 mile trips. Free Onstar for 5 years with nav downloads and hands-free blue tooth, this car is better then my old E class Mercedes, rides about the same. Wife and I literally fight over who drives it. It really moves out from a stop light in "Sport Mode" due to the E motors 100% Torque at 0-RPM.

The Volt is a great mix of performance, technology and practicality. The electric motor provides substantial torque which makes the car feel more powerful and responsive than most cars on the road. On a single charge I am able to drive about 38 miles (mostly freeway driving). That's enough to get me to and from work with a little juice left over. However, the gas engine is a great backup if I need to take a longer trip. I have driven almost 500 miles and only used 1.3 gallons of gas so far. Charging is so easy. The Volt comes with a charger you can plug into any standard electrical outlet.

Best car I've ever leased.

I get in and out of leases all the time. I've had the S4, X5, 550i, 335 coupe, and a few others. Nothing compares to this car. The others handled better and were quicker (except the X5) but overall the Volt hangs just fine. If you put it in power mode - it will really move. And the fact that I've yet to burn any gas... wow. It's an amazing feeling. Oh... and I didn't see any increase in my electrical bill compared to last year. So far it's been the same....

I have had my Volt for one month and am impressed with this vehicle. It is more refined than I expected. The ride and handling is very good especially for a 3700 lb vehicle. The seats are very comfortable. I like this car so much that I have ordered a second one.

This car could have been just another ho-hum electric/hybrid, but it isn't that. Instead, it continues to amaze and delight me in how well designed and constructed it is. It has excellent handling, power, and comfort. The sound system, nav system, and integration of bluetooth, USB, and Onstar are probably the best in the industry. The "feel" of the car is of a nimble, high end European sedan, and I would choose this as my daily driver, even if it didn't deliver better economy than any other car, which, by the way, it does, with the possible exception of the Nissan Leaf.

The Volt has debuted to a record number of awards for one new car, but also a lot of controversy. If the car had a Toyota badge on it, even Edmunds would be hailing it as the reinvention of the automobile. But alas, many just won't let their old GM baggage go. I say all this because it's been obvious on forums like this that people who likely don't own a Volt are posting intentionally negative reviews to burn it. Like I'd be very suspicious of cornell1 here. As such, I wouldn't believe a clearly hostile review unless the person can prove ownership. For me, just go to the Google Picasa photo site and look me up, yamahr1, where you'll find pics of me getting my car.

Having the ability to drive using NO gasoline for >95% of my driving is a wonderful feeling. Not having to worry about how far I might have to drive or whether I'll get stuck in traffic allowed me to consider this as my only car. Having reduced worries when the price of gas goes up or gets rationed is a great stress reliever. Knowing that I'm doing the best I can to support the US economy while also addressing environmental concerns just feels good. I thought I'd have to compromise more to be able to drive this type of vehicle.
