I bought a 2010 Yaris Sedan for my Daughter. She is a college student and the Yaris has been a fantastic car for her. Very reliable and fuel efficient. She is very happy with this vehicle, have owned for 1-1/2 years and no problems at all!

My model is not a real hatchback

They gave me a car with cargo area "B". There is no certification on the car. They said they don't do that in this dealership, and the only toyota dealer of any size is 190 miles away (I'm in what historically is mostly forest area). Wood has to come from somewhere. They sold me a car that has no floor in the hatch. I need the car to travel for medical and to be able to look for a place and possibly move to a more convenient area. I am a 70 yr. woman. I have circulation problems extending especially to my feet. The heel of my foot becomes numb, and I have to try to rest at reststops. This cargo area is not what I was shown. It is cargo area "B". There are two cargo area options on this Yaris. I can't get any information on even how to get it changed from the "B" one which is not usable. It has a 6 inch area of no floor in the rear. I thought when initially shown the car it did have a flat area, and one is shown on p. 46--adjustable components. I have called the 800 number trying to get the "upgrade" so I can go to the back and be able to put my feet up there, or have the option of camping with a friend while travelling through bear country, and staying safely in the back, as I'm only 5'3" and there is plenty of ROOM. Also, the heat does not come down and get your feet toasty. The heater is loud so you can't hear the turn signals if it is on. I used to drive a geo, but it was leaky around the windows with age. The toyota company with the number in the owners manual was not helpful in that they referred me back to this dealer, Midcity Toyota in Eureka, CA. Stuff slips and slides as the carpeting on the back floor parts is extremely slippery (which don't fit together in "Type B" cargo floor). You could put another bathroom rug or something over it if it was anything like flat without the strip just above the spare tire compartment but the "cargo" compartment" does not hold cargo as it stands. I am allergic to plywood or I could get someone to saw a piece to fit in if it was flat (all this is with the back seat collapsed). But I am told plywood "gasses off" and that is what causes my headaches around it. Man, this is a headache. Also, I accidentally had the mileage button on "trip" I have had this car for 8 months and I just now saw it is not on odometer, but trip. The instrument panel on these cars is way to the right and there are 3 or actually 6 (one within the other) temp. controls. It is far to the right of where the driver sits, and my insurance would not allow anyone else to drive. It flips from this "trip" calculator to the odometer--and I did not read the whole 400 page manual to notice. I had to go on a "medical vacation" immediately (the dentists here in this tree harvesting area are a little "off". To get anything for the buck, you have to travel. The old geo was not a modern car, but its seats were not as hard on the hip joints and the controls were straight-forward and stuff did not slip and slide as much in the interior. I like the car, though, as it is modern and is not a gas-guzzler (I'm very GREEN as far as all that, plus I'm on a budget!). There are too many people around here with the giant truck tires, the jumbo sized-trucks, or belching out black smoke with no muffler, etc.

What a great buy!!

It has been 8 months and I am still loving my car! What a great buy! Love the car!! Upside : Great gas mileage, zippy drive for a four cylinder, very reliable! Downside: No legroom in the back seat; but the back seat does fold down to create greater storage/carrying space and more trunk space. Car would have been ideal designed as a two-seater.

Great car!!

Lately I've been able to drive my gf's 2010 Yaris sedan auto and I cannot understand why this car ever gets a bad review. The turning radius is so tight, it's insane. The room up front is fine, a little tight in the back, but it's a subcompact. What blew me away most of all is this car's gas mileage. I've found it to be much better than 32 or 33. She has had the car for nearly 3 years - 0 problems. She still gets free oil changes, spent nothing on the upkeep. The ride is comfortable, we drove it on trips - no problem and like I said, the mileage is unreal. I own a '06 Xb with the same exact engine. 100K plus miles - zero problems. It's the reliability, that's why people buy it.

Its no secret by how many miles are on this car that I bought it because of the great gas mileage. A little pricey. $17,000 and it doesn't have power ANYTHING. Friends make comments about that and they have a point. Still love the great gas mileage 35-40 highway. No problems with this car so far.

I think my yaris is fantastic as I look towards long term ownership w/o problems... It might be a bit underrated if assessed from the standpoint of initial 2010 reviews of the vehicle versus longer term ownership. This car has really grown on me in every way! I'm hoping that I can dime in again in another 25k with more positives.

I am a student that uses this car for commuting Since I live in San Francisco I have to parallel park all the time, or find small places to fit in. Almost every single time I have a hard time finding parking the yaris has always come in handy. Another good part is how I can make quick U-turns pretty much everywhere (without having to reverse) The only thing that sucks is sometimes I can be a speed devil and I'm on the freeway hitting the gas to the max and it takes like 20-30 seconds for it to actually start to kick in a speed up to 85-95mph I've come to very close calls crashing into other cars, but I've always hit the breaks and they've never failed me. I love my yaris!!

I have a 4 door hatchback and have driven it over a year. I also opted to add leather seats-great idea. Fun to drive, very zippy, can park anywhere, great turning radius (it still surprises me at times), wonderful to haul things in because of the back seat options, reliable and cheap to drive. I average depending on my driving style between 28-31 mpg city and 32-40 mpg highway. You will only get the 40 if you go 65 or under on a non windy day. Cons are that you hear the road noise and engine a lot, feel bumps because of stiffer shocks and the inside is more plastic than I would like...but this is not a sedan so what do you expect? A great, fun ride for the average cost conscious driver.

It is the most boring car I have ever driven and I have driven many cars. I traded a 2007 Mini Cooper for this dreadful vehicle. It's a huge effort to pass a car in front of me - it doesn't want to; its automatic transmission shifts first up, then down, then up again around 30 miles per hour on an un-level street; it has terrifying brakes that lock up; it won't track over 60 miles per hour (constantly fighting the steering wheel to keep the car in a straight line - very tiring); no comfortable place for my feet. I absolutely hate everything about it, except for the gas mileage - and yes, that's very good. I recommend new car buyers to steer clear of this one. Get a Mini Cooper instead.

COMFORT: The sedan has longest wheelbase in its EPA class, allowing it THE most rearseat legroom in its class. Check specs! This makes more than comfortable road trips with family or friends. CONVENIENCE: Yaris sedan trunk BIGGER THAN COROLLA's! Check specs! Much is made of Honda FIT's cargo space, but on vacation with your family of four, FIT is reduced to being just another hatchback: LESS trunk space than a sedan, unless you WANT to cram the back so full you can't see out the rear! PERFORMANCE: Only thing that beats YarisSEDAN's turning circle is a Yaris 3-dr HATCH. Only thing that beats Yaris MPG is the all-new, Made in Mexico, Fix Or Repair Daily Focus. Yaris is tried 'n true.

I traded an Infiniti G35 for a yaris, which might seem like a huge difference, and it was. However, I been very happy with this decision. I constantly am averaging 31.5 mpg in the city and about 39 highway, which is fantastic. The reliability I cant say much about yet because my car only has 4300 miles, but it starts up in sub zero temps and hasn't given me trouble yet. The car feels solid for a cheap car. I hate how all the reviewers knock this car because it really is not that bad. It is affordable, practical, reliable, and excellent on gas. Despite toyotas recalls, I still think they are far superior than many other brands. For example, Nissan, GM, Ford, and mazda. Yaris is a great car!

I bought the Yaris strictly as a commuter car, for a 100 mile a day round trip commute, on the basis of the fuel economy and the expectation that I wouldn't feel bad about putting so many miles on a cheap car. As it turns out, it's actually fun to drive. With the five speed manual, this light car gives all of the acceleration I need in town and on the freeway. I'm also impressed with the "feel" of the materials. The doors close with that "thud" that you expect from a luxury sedan, rather than flimsy feel of a traditional subcompact. With its smooth ride, I have difficulty keeping my speed down on the freeway. After getting my first ticket in 20 years, I installed aftermarket cruise control

Bought 2010 5 door Yaris for the gas mileage alone given my commute, but found the car to be enjoyable overall. I can get all 3 of my kids in the back if I need too. The manual is bright and easy to shift, power even at 1500 rpm, so I'm in 5th unless I am stopped or on steep hill. Nice stereo, with Ipod jack, "plasticy" interior but expected. zippy and I can park anywhere. If you're ready to save money and the environment get one. FYI Toyota does not make one without the power package so add 1k + to the price, I paid $14,200.

This is the second Yaris I've owned. I had a 2008 that I bought in 2007. I wouldn't have bought another one if I didn't think they were good cars. My only complaint would be the cheapness of the interior and the paint job. Both of which failed me on my 2008. The gas mileage is a dream. I took my 08 Yaris from SC to MA last year and only spent $160 RT. Amazing!

I've had the yaris for 4 months and 6,500 miles, great car but I'm a Toyota owner for many years. Yaris replaced my echo that also had the 1.5 engine. Retired the echo with 200,000 miles with original battery, water pump, alternator. I feel the yaris will out do the echo. The mileage is great, highway average approx 44.5. Love this car, strong a/c which was always a problem with the echo

I feel like I'm driving a much larger car than it is. It feels solid and smooth. It handles more like a sedan than a hatchback. I don't feel like I'm driving a tiny plastic toy like the Honda Fit that my wife drives. It has good acceleration for passing on the highway, but not as sporty as a Honda Fit. Stability is excellent on slick pavement. There is very little engine noise while cruising on the highway. The acceleration is smooth and quiet without any jerky gearing.

We purchased this car to park the silverado in hopes to achieve 37 mpg from everyone else's reviews. keeping the car at 70 mph or less we maintain 35-36 which is very impressive. took a highway trip and set it on cruise which was added, at 65 mph and at 280 miles we did get 46 mpg. i have no complaints for the compromise of mileage. if I did not have cruise control added i would not enjoy highway trips. overall if driven with a light foot and 70 or less mph good result await you. enjoy

I had the car for 6 month and 8K miles. The gas mileage is about 3 mpg worse than my old Tercel. Best was 42 mpg on the highway, worst was 34 mpg in heavy city traffic. I average 37-38 on my commute which is mostly city driving. The car is comfortable and easy to handle, tight turning radius, lots of space once you fold down the rear seats. So far I had zero problems with the car. Easy to work on for do-it-yourselfers.

I bought this car (had about 18 miles on it) and the very same day drove about 800 miles in a single day. I think a lot of the posters here exaggerate a bit on the gas mileage as I am getting roughly about 32 mpg before the fuel gauge starts blinking. Not bad but that was mainly highway driving. Drove it back another 800 miles and getting the same results. Of course, I had the AC going on the entire time which can affect the mpg. The interior did not have really nice quality materials but what do you expect from a $13k car. The engine was great and very zippy but also at the same time, extremely loud. You can feel the bumps and roaring of the engine. Overall, a great car.

My 2008 Yaris recently totaled in accident. Did what it was supposed to, protect my wife and me while taking the damage. Four days later I had a 2010 identical Yaris with even better safety features. I cannot tell you how peppy, compact, fun to drive and SAFE this small car can be. Gas mileage is great, interior and exterior features and looks are sleek and very 'Euro' style, and the cargo room is outstanding for what basically looks like a cute Tinkertoy. Small wife (4'11")loves the view driving it. Great choice for many reasons.

I really do love this little car. Why do people have to state the obvious in their reviews? It's not a $60K sports car, duh. That said, I think it is fun as heck to drive in the 5spd manual trans. Plenty of power and dare I say even a "sporty" feel. Great modern look, bordering on adorable (to me). I honestly like the center console that some people complain about. It makes it easier for me to read my speed and I get an extra glove box out of the deal! The interior is ridiculously large for such a small car. I've owned many cars including expensive sports cars. Ultimately a car is transportation. Toyota proves that transportation can be cute, fun, well made, reliable AND INEXPENSIVE! :)

I recently purchased a new 3 dr Yaris and I am very happy with its overall quality and performance. I love the additional cargo space compared to my trade in Corolla. Compared to the Matrix which I drove as a rental for a few days the overall driver visibility is superior. It more than adequately gets up to the speed limit and as a technician it looks very easy to work on. Great price and quality. If it has the same dependability as my old Corolla I will be very happy in years to come. Jim Mc

I love my Yaris. For such a small, zippy car, there is a lot of room! I can fit my bike with the seats down (with the front wheel off) but it still fits! It gets great mileage, 36 mpg normally, with 38-40 mpg if I drive it nicely around the countryside. In carmine red, the yaris is very handsome looking and gets lots of questions and compliments. The seats are firm but comfortable. The climate controls, simple and straight forward, are very easy to fool with while driving and are very smartly laid out. The doors feel very sturdy and not cheap at all. My friend's corolla feels cheaper. The center dash doesn't bother me at all. To sum it up- zippy car, great on gas, & comfortable. Check it out!

A smart choice.

I expected a simple get-around-town ho hum experience. I have been pleasantly surprised. The Yaris won't win any drag races, but the versatility of the interior cubbies along with the great seats and good ride quality will make up for it. The gas mileage has been good, 30-36 mpg. My lowest was 28.5 mpg on an all city driving week. I'd recommend the 5 dr, and go ahead and load it up with all the power options. You won't save that much by leaving them off, and they're worth it. Edmunds exaggerates the manual vs auto transmission. The auto is fine. The gates are good, and the shifts are smooth. You can't beat the Yaris. Just go test drive one.

I LOVE my Yaris!

This is my 6th Toyota, and my first- ever NEW one. I have only had it a week, so I can't comment on reliability, but I fully expect to have the car through 300K miles. I have the 5-speed, and it's a darn zippy ride! Smooth shifting and peppy. The center odometer/speedometer doesn't bother me a bit and it's nice to have the extra glove box so close to the driver. The car is ABSURDLY large inside compared to what you would think--a ton of room for both driver and passengers or cargo. I feel as if it's roomier than my Corolla.

Work at a Toyota dealer....Traded in an 06 XB which i loved but the 0% for 60 plus the same drive train which I trust made it irresistible. 36.9 mpg on the first tank. Surprised at the interior space..I'm 5'10" 240 fit just fine. Vehicle seems to search for it's spot in the lane at freeway speeds. Could be me though I had 17's on the XB. Overall a great car...Oh by the way my other car is an 2009 Audi A4

Love it!

I have only owned this car for 3 weeks so I cannot comment on reliability but I have driven a friends Camry extensively and I am impressed with Toyota in general. The Yaris is a ball to drive and my only problem is that I want to be traveling all the time and that could eventually get expensive. The car is, for it's size powerful, comfortable and attractive. The gas tank is only 11.1 gal and I am accustomed to a 20 gal tank but it will go twice as far on a gallon as the Cherokee I traded in so the smaller tank is OK. All in all I am delighted with it.

Excellent economy car

We have owned our Yaris for about a month and love it. We thought about buying a Prius, but the 10k price difference made us change our mind real quick. The Yaris sedan looks small from the outside, but is more than sufficient for daily use like commuting to work and running errands. Even at highway speeds (75+), the vehicle is pretty smooth with no vibrations/noise. Seems to handle snow driving (northeast US) pretty well, compared to my previous bigger cars. Fuel economy is excellent (38+ on mixed driving). 20 bucks fills up the car. Leg room is very adequate both in the front and rear. Recommend that everyone buy the power package that includes power windows, mirrors, locks and remote key.

One helluva car

I absolutely love this car. Reasonably priced, a solid built car, handles great, a very tight turning radius, nimble. Great, great MPG. Plenty of interior room.

Bought this vehicle as a second car that would be ideal for parking in the city. It fits the purpose there. Surprisingly sprite for a small engine and find that I'm more than able to keep up with the larger vehicles on the road. It needs more input from the driver than larger cars, but that makes it more engaging and does add a little to the "fun factor!" It's a good car for what it was built to do. Cheap commuting and relatively comfortable with it. Throttle tip in can be a little aggressive and sudden, but have gotten used to it after 3000 miles.

This Car has everything we wanted. Reasonable price, and great gas mileage for a non Hybrid. It is a solid, well built car with Toyota reliability. My wife being short, loves the tall driving position as she can finally see the road. We adapted quickly to the center mounted gauges. Not an issue for us. I have to laugh at most of the professional reviews I have read. They live in different world than people who want cars in this segment. They test like we have the peddle to the metal from every stop light. The car has plenty of power for everyday commuting. And the ride is good, and the car runs very smoothly. Even with the Power Package this car seems simple. We love this car.

Great Fun

This car is a joy to drive. Nimble with a very tight turning radius. While many reviews complain about the lack of 'performance', I am totally delighted with it, and don't expect better in a car with this good a fuel economy. I am 6'3" and weigh over 200 pounds, yet the driving position, the seat, and getting in and out of the vehicle are all extremely easy and comfortable. Also love the instrument panel in the center, which I thought I would hate. The rear seats are comfortable, and folded down give me a great cargo area. And the clean design of the interior is great looking. Love the all manual windows and door.

Yaris Sedan was a good choice. Nice trunk space and enough room in backseat for 2 kids. I've averaged 36.5 to 38.5 miles per gallon. Handles very well around corners etc. Although it does handle well, it is somewhat fussy to keep straight on road due to tight handling performance. I purchased this car with electric everything. Overall, I would purchase one again.

I love my Yaris!

I'm a car enthusiast. I know a lot about cars and have owned everything from muscle cars to sports cars to big luxury cars to tiny commuters. The Yaris is my favorite all arounder so far. It looks great, gets AMAZING gas mileage, it's fun to drive, and feels solid on the road. The ride is an excellent mix of comfort and handling, the stick feels great, and it's just a great car to get in and go. The engine, though small, is really great. Very smooth, quiet, efficient, and it has adequate power. The sedan's trunk and rear leg room match many large cars. It's amazing how small it is on the outside and how large it is inside. Overall, the best car for the money out there.

The Yaris is definitely not a performance car. If you want to burn some rubber, look elsewhere. Highway miles going 60 - 70 I got 42 mpg while running AC. City only I got mid 30's with AC and driving conservatively. Comfortable and handles well. Had a Tercel before that was still running well @ 177K miles. Tercel gave me no headaches ever, hope this car will be as reliable. Stereo system is so-so but does the job. Radio reception is poor. Interior is roomy, seats are nice, instruments are clearly visible. Everything is manual (windows, locks), so there's less stuff to brake. If you're looking for a reliable economy car that gets great gas mileage and doesn't brake the bank look no further.
