2010 Toyota Sequoia is a Stinker!

We have been devoted Toyota fans for many years and have purchased for new Toyota vehicles in the last 10 years. Historically they have been reliable...then we bought a new $55,000 Sequoia Limited (4WD) in 2010. So far (between 2010-2015) we have spent over $5,000.00 in repairs on the Sequoia! The combo GPS/radio completely failed just out of the warranty period and we had to have it rebuilt. The brakes on this vehicle have always had major problems - going down any appreciable hill causes the rotors to hot-spot and/or warp, resulting in an alarming steering wheel shimmy. The alternator went out at just under 70,000 miles and we took it to Toyota for repairs. We were told that both the timing chain cover seal and pan seal were leaking and this is what caused the alternator to fail. The Toyota Dealer held us for ransom - indicating that they wouldn't warranty the new alternator unless we had the timing chain cover & pan seals replaced! Ultimately, (after the dealer had the vehicle for nearly 2 full weeks) the repair cost was > $4,100.00!!! It would seem to me that Toyota would have a little pride and make good on the seal repairs since clearly there is some sort of problem with their vehicles leaking from multiple seals at less than 70,000 miles...but we couldn't even get Toyota to return our calls! The service representative told us that the Sequoia was made in Texas and that they aren't nearly as reliable as Toyota's made in Japan... that has become abundantly clear to us. Bought my first new Toyota Longbed truck in 1984 for $5,800.00...I've nearly spent that much on repairs for the 2010 Sequoia.

I traded in my 2011 Honda Pilot (yes, a 2011) for a slightly used 2010 Sequioa Platinum. I did this mostly for the towing capacity, but I also love the styling of the Sequioa. Despite loving the overall SUV, I will list the cons to consider if you don't need the towing capacity: - Seat layout. Platinum captain seating in back is silly and inconvenient. - Nav/Audio: overly complex touchscreen interface. For example, to change stations to next preset (without using the steering wheel controls), you have to switch to "audio" mode. - Handling: while good for a 3 ton truck, its still shaky at speeds and subject to wind. If you need a luxury tank, buy this.

I purchased my Sequoia two months ago {9/2010} and it has met my expectations. It has excellent acceleration, great maneuverability for a 6,000 pound truck, great passenger room, and the built quality is consistent with Toyota standards {we have owed GM, Lexus, Nissan, and Toyota}. We have rented a Chevy Tahoe LT for a vacation and although the seats are much more comfortable, I am very pleased with my choice since the overall quality/acceleration/and long term expected durability do not stack up to the Sequoia.At 50k+ in this class, you need to be sure.

This is my third Sequoia (mixed in between with 2 Expeditions) Would not have bought without new folding third row on this generation. The headroom is tight with a sunroof for taller drivers. The gas mileage is on the low end of the segment. But the "value" is tops and it has awesome power. Typical "junk" Toyota NAV system. Sounds a lot like I'm disappointed? Not really, just pointing out flaws. Still heads and shoulders over the Tahoe/Suburban and Expedition. Wish they really would tighten up the suspension, it's a 4wd, I can handle some roughness for handling. Would have liked a hybrid option

I had the same 2008 SUV and this one is even better. The electronics are more user friendly. Drove Yukon XLs before this and other SUVs towing a travel trailer. This does that job better than them all and I've towed trailers for 40 years. Mileage towing 7,500 # trailer about 9 mpg and combined Hwy & City w/o trailer is about 16 MPG, not bad considering the size, weight and capabilities of the Sequoia. Comfort and handling close to my Lexus LS 460. This is a great vehicle I highly recommend. You won't be disappointed.

This car is a beast. Wife and two kids and all the stuff for family vacation easily fit. It drives wonderfully. Plenty of power, plenty of room. I wish the mpg were a little better. We got 17 mpg on the highway and 15 in town. We don't tow anything, but it feels like we could. It has plenty of horse power with a great ride. But, I do have one serious complaint. The navigation! Toyota should be embarrassed. Having owned an Acura with navi, I expected they would all be about the same. Big mistake! It is frustrating, counter- intuitive, and far from "user friendly." in short, buy the sequoia but skip the navi. You'll be glad you did.

I traded in an 03 Pilot w 100K on it which was bulletproof. Bought Top of the line Platinum and three weeks later wife backed into a pile of rocks in a parking lot island--turns out the sonar is off until you turn it on. Our fault but major design flaw. Now with 4K miles had major vibration at highway speed found to be failing universal joint and bad drive shaft. All under warranty of course but Toyota reputation is overrated. I consider this unacceptable for a $60K vehicle. Can't get bench 2nd row in Platinum and room behind 3rd row is limited due to wasted space between rows 1&2. Bought for towing capability. If you don't need to tow buy a Pilot. Otherwise nice car.

The powertrain is outstanding and towing capability as well. It makes the vehicle a joy to drive. At 61000 miles mine has yet to have a mechanical problem.

I moved up from a 2004 Honda Pilot to this dream car. I wanted a vehicle that would effortlessly tow my boat and at the same time offer a smooth quiet ride during family road trips. This vehicle does both and how. Although it barely fits in my garage (!) it handles like a vehicle half its size. One thing that stands out is the turning circle. At first approach to a tight space in a parking lot, you have to fight the urge to back-up to straighten out the vehicle because of its size, yet it pivots nicely into any space.

This was my first SUV purchase. Before I have owned a BMW 530, a VW Passat, Porsche Boxster, and Chrysler 300. I have always avoided SUVs, but I am looking to have a few kids and needed something more practical for around the house. So far this has been a great SUV with a car like drive an feel. The improvements in the suspension allow for more room inside and a better ride. It has plenty of power and I love that I can now have 7 folks easily get into a car take a long ride in comfort. I would suggest required features to have the Sonar, running boards and back up camera. I also like the wood grain interior and larger wheels. With this package the maintenance was included for 36K miles

I just added two more kids (total of 3) and needed to upgrade from my Pilot. I looked at all minivans and Ford Expedition..I looked at the Sequoia (after spending two months trying to find one that suited my needs) and was sold immediately. It has the best combination of space, comfort, performance and reliability that would suit most larger families. Excellent build quality is evident. Suspension is firm as suspected but not uncomfortable by any means. Plenty of room for 8 adults(I mean it!) with cargo room to spare. I especially like the options you get with the SR5 standard..such as power moonroof, rear seat digital climate control, XM etc. I would recommend it to all.

I just purchased a 2010 Toyota Sequoia and it was the best full sized suv i have ever purchased. It is powerful and it is very capable,on and off road. The Jbl synthesis sound system is fantastic and i enjoy driving it over long periods of time. The fuel milage is not good, but this truley is one of the best full sized suv on the market today. I Would recomond it over the Expedition,Tahoe, Yukon, and the Armada any day.

I enjoyed my 2001 Sequoia very much. Unfortunately, I was rear-ended while sitting at a red light by a Trailblazer doing 50 MPH whose driver was obviously not paying attention. Air bags are great but nothing beats well engineered steel. With that in mind, I looked at the Yukon, Tahoe, Expedition, X5, M's, Range Rover, etc. for comparison. The 2010 Sequoia is everything that my 2001 was and more. The 2010 is even more capable on the beach in soft sand than the 2001. I chose the 5.7L FFV engine and it is well suited to the 6 speed transmission and weight of this vehicle. I am looking forward to our first road trip.

I have owned many new cars and feel I could offer a solid review on this Toyota. Cheap plastic everywhere, but I thought the industry standard of Toyota quality would prevail, until recently. NO problems to date but am disappointed with how cheaply this $60,000.00 SUV is put together, thankfully i do not have a record of keeping vehicles beyond 2 years and am know realizing come trade time is when i will pay.

Taken as a whole, this is a great vehicle, and great looking too. However, missing a few features (see below) and also the dash panels are the cheapest plastic imaginable, looks like a Kia Rio..

Don't buy Toyota. Long story short -- horrible visibility. Drives like a huge box wheels. Toyota nickels and dimes you to death. We had always wondered why the vehicle never drove right. Was told several times it is just the size of the vehicle. Come to find out it was never aligned right. Abnormal tire wear became noticeable after tires rotated twice.

This is our 3rd Toyota, but our 1st SUV. We finally outgrew our Camry and Prius to own the Platinum Sequoia. Wow, what a jump up in room and class! Our 7 seater has it all. I thought parking and maneuvering would be a problem, but not so with the sensors all around the vehicle. They keep the vehicle right on track to avoid any type of false move. The versatility of our Platinum is incredible. The 3rd row is spacious with the option to recline for more room. Get the 2nd row heated seats on the Platinum for cold weather...you won't be sorry. IPOD and Blackberry information fully transferable to your main screen. Cool. We got a remote starter added after market through the dealer.

Since picking up our new Sequoia last week, we've driven 900 miles and this is my initial reaction. WOW! Traded 08 suburban and no regrets. At 6'1", more comfortable seating, tighter turning radius, smoother trans. and quiet like a Lexus. Sound system w/JBL & NAV is easy with IPOD integration. Passing and maintaining 80 on the HWY is now easy and less stressful than our LTZ Sub. Nimble in town, second row space and leg room cannot be beat. No more kicking dad's seat from the teenagers.

OK - I have to admit, this purchase was a compromise for me. I wasn't sold on the new HUGE interior, but to accommodate 3 kids + 1 dog we decided to take a chance on this beast, especially considering our love of our 2003 Limited Sequoia. Here are my complaints: 1 - IT'S HUGE. Hard to park such an enormous vehicle, even though the turning radius has been greatly improved. 2 - The interior finish is below par. For $50K you'd think you'd get nice finishes, not cheap plastic everywhere. Seats are NOT comfortable. 3rd - I miss the cargo space in my 2003 Sequoia. The self storing 3rd row makes the cargo space "short" from floor to ceiling.

We traded in our '02 Z71 Tahoe for this Sequoia and are happy we did. We have more room and the power fold down 3rd row. Being 6'3" it is a bit more difficult to get in as the seats are situated higher, but it is comfortable, drives nicely and so far works well for our family travel needs.

Traded in a Honda Ody for this beast and we have not been disappointed. You feel like king of the road sitting in this truck. The MPG stinks, but who does not expect that buying this truck? The tradeoff? An engine with crazy power that makes you feel as if you were in a muscle car! Platinum is worth it for the radar cruise control. Did not touch gas/brake for over 2 hours on PA Turnpike...truck almost drives for you! Nav is better than I expected and the bluetooth and voice recognition system beats our MDX hands down.

This is my second Toyota SUV, we owned a 2000 landcruiser years ago that was awesome too. We recently came back to Toyota after trading our Lexus GX470 for the Sequoia. The GX was not big enough for kids and strollers etc. The Sequoia is awesome, the towing capacity is fantastic as well. It used to be you had to buy an Escalade or something to be able to tow 10,000 pounds but not anymore, watch out GM! I have a few complaints about the Sequoia. For a $50,000+ vehicle you would expect there would be a front middle parking sensor, why there isn't I have no clue, just side front sensors. I was also surprised there was no personalized settings for the front seats. Overall a great truck.

We traded in a Lexus Hybrid for this vehicle and have been very pleased. It provides the feeling of driving a living room on wheels. Extremely comfortable on both short and long trips. The third row is truly functional as well as comfortable. I recommend the power option for the third row seats. Would highly recommend this vehicle for a family that needs a "luxury" ride for great reliability. We were between a mini- van and this Sequoia, but in reality there is no comparison after you drive this vehicle.

My 3 year old son calls our new Sequoia Daddy's 'Monster Truck'. We traded in a Ford Explorer to get more space for our third child, due in March. So far the truck is great. The ride is very smooth and there is plenty of room in the second row - it has 3 LATCH hook-ups and lots of leg room. Gas mileage is actually better than my old Explorer!

Traded in a Nissan Armada that I loved for the new 2010 Sequoia. While I could have saved $4,000 with a rebate on the new Armada, after I test drove the new Toyota Sequoia I had to have it. It is simply the best large SUV on the market now. It handles almost like a car, rides great, and gets better EPA than my Armada. BUY NOW - YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!!

This 2010 Toyota Sequoia is my 4th new Toyota purchased. My platinum has every possible option available. I am very happy with the vehicle overall. However, Toyota's legal dept is ruining Toyota. The Navigation and factory remote starter are useless. As soon as the vehicle is in motion the NAV locks up so that not even your passenger can enter a new address or search for fuel or food. So basically you are forced to pull over into the break down lane (which is not only illegal but dangerous) to update your NAV. Also the RADAR cruise control does not work when the windshield wipers are activated. Give me a break Toyota, I know how to drive in the rain.

My 2010 Toyota Sequoia has a nice smooth quiet ride, has plenty of power, and great handling. This is my third Toyota, and I am a very satisfied customer. However, the factory JBL navigation is the worst navigation I have ever had the displeasure of using. All essential features are locked out and cannot be accessed when the vehicle is in motion. My advice, purchase aftermarket NAV and backup camera.

I've had 3 Escalades and 2 Blazers---I just took delivery of 2010 Platinum Sequoia and there isn't an American SUV nor for that matter any SUV that comes close---I've tested Lexus 570 but for me it was too small as was Toyota's Landcruiser. This vehicle has every option one could possibly get for thousands of dollars less than any other vehicle in it's class on the road today. The ride is amazing and with a 6 yr 125,000 mile warranty, need I say anymore.

Having owned a '04 Sequoia Limited, I was interested to see what they would improve. I surely had some complaints with my '04, but still loved it. First, they have brightened up the interior and all switches are well displayed at night. Second, the dreaded third row seats. I couldn't stand folding or removing the seats. They have simplified that with the third row laying flat with a touch of a button. Third, if you were in the third row you were locked in until somebody let you out. Now you just step on a release on the back of the second row and the seat slides forward and you are out. The interior has been upgraded to be first class.

This has to be the best SUV currently on the road. Prior to this I owned a Suburban. Chevrolet cannot compare to the quality and performance of this vehicle. The interior was extremely well thought out. Options are minimal making competitors fail in comparison as they nickle and dime you to get close to the quality of the Sequoia. The engine performance is excellent. Good mileage 17MPG (13.8 L/ 100km). I do not notice any lack of performance when pulling my 7000lb travel trailer. The vehicle is children friendly and focused with ease of access to all rows and built in sun shades with all windows. The dealership treatment is second to none with seven years of oil changes included.
