I bought 2010 after owning a 2007 for 4 years. Both have been great. Both were purchased as Certified preowned at 30K miles. Other than rear hatch replacement which Toyota and dealer did free when I complained I have only had to do routine maintenance until a headlight bulb burned out at 103K miles. Now up to 109K miles and purring like a kitten.

My wife and I bought this car as the Family vehicle. Luckily, we purchased an extended warranty when new. The Gold standard I have of a reliable vehicle is just gas it up and go. I also include regular service intervals at dealer. This Highlander is not that vehicle. Although mechanically it seems great the car has its flaws. Automatic tailgate does not work reliably. Ours has been replaced but the problem has returned. Check enthusiast web sites and you can see the problem well described. We have also used our extended warranty on AC water leak into cabin, replaced sensors and a headlight switch. The warranty has paid for itself. My wifes 1st toyota and she does not want another toyota.

It's really a gas guzzler i never got more than 11 miles per gallon on it. I did like all of us, first I look at the numbers promise by Toyota, than I tought I would make a rational decision, then comes the deception. Took it many times to the dealer, all is fine, no check engine light on, no codes, nothing at all! Tire size is the rignt one, pressure is fine, I only use premium gas (no ethanol filler gas), used recommanded oil, 99% of the time I drive on flat surface road, still get bad gas milage. I change my old 4runner for a Highlander, what a bad choice, made to deceive. Maybe whit all the new subcontacts Toyota is a china made machine with a Toyota sticker on it!

I purchased my Highlander in November 2009. 72k miles later and she still drives like she did off of the lot. Plenty of cargo space to accommodate our family of 4. Enough acceleration to make merging onto any freeway a breeze. It's average around 20 mpg. The interior of the car has held up very well. Plenty of room and head clearance (I'm 6'3"). Quiet and soft ride. It handles much like a Camry. We've had no problems, other than the tires wearing out at 30k miles. Put some Michelin tires on and they have had limited wear after 40k miles. Full brake job completed at 60k miles. Battery lasted 6 years. I do wish it had an outside temp reading on the dash. The 3rd row is very cramped, and hard to get to, but we don't really need it anyways. The car feels like it could go another 100k miles, no problem.

I really enjoy my 2010 Toyota Highlander Limited. This vehicle definitely has a great amount of power along with a smooth and quite ride. I have previously owned some of Lexus's high end SUV's and I must say I don't see much of a difference in the ride quality, features, style, etc. Granted I did purchase the limited so the features are much improved over the base model. The only thing I can say negative about the highlander is fuel economy. I get around 16 mpg with a good mix of highway and city driving. I understand that is not awful for a midsize to somewhat larger SUV but I just don't like that they state its 20 city & 27 highway. That being said BUY THIS VEHICLE!

Really the only thing I can think to complain about is the steering. The steer by wire requires constant correction and has a different feel to it. AWD was adequete for my wife this winter without winter tires. Plenty of pickup when you want it! No outside temp reading on base model??? 29k come on lets add in a few basic options that all competitors have. I like the interior set up ecspecially the backseat space. Never get better than 18.5mpg mixed driving with 8k on odometer.

Purchased in Dec 2009. 17000 miles later, still loving it. Lots of room for our 2 dogs and camping gear in the back with seats folded down. Very comfortable for 4 on a road trip with the seats up. Rock solid reliability. Bought the 4cyl with tow pkg. We occasionally tow our jetski to the beach and the 4 cyl is more than up to the task. Our only complaint, we were hoping for better gas milage. We have yet to see the EPA rated 27 on the highway, no matter how conservatively we drive. We've averaged 22.1 MPG since new with about a 50/50 mix of highway and city. Our best milage on road trip with just the two of us and no cargo was 25.38. Overall though, very pleased.

Well I wrote a review after 15000 miles and nothing has changed. Same car tires etc., excellent 33000 miles the tires. I read reviews about tire wearing our at 5000 miles . I now wonder what that diver did to make them wear out. Like I stated in the initial review great pick-up styling and love all of the extras. The only think is that I got a couple of rock chips in the windshield and it is 700+ to replace because of the heated base for the wipersse of heated base for the wipers

We bought this vehicle in September with 35 miles on it after our Dodge Durango's transmission died on us and we love this car. We chose the Limited 4wd because it was very classy looking compared to what we had.The power lift gate is an excellent and convenient option. The JBL sound system is superb, the gps is flawless. Handling is car like. I would highly recommend this vehicle to anyone in the market to buy. It's only got 1600 mile on it so far

I bought the highlander about a month ago after doing my research on crossovers and SUv's. I chose the highlander after seeing all of the wonderful reviews it had. I am very pleased with my decision although I do believe as with other people there could be a few added upgrades on these vehicles. I purchased the 4 cyl and average about 28 mpg highway going about 60 mph. I'm very satisfied with my choice.

Ride is smooth compared to my old Ford Explorer and Jeep Commander. Drives more like a car than a SUV. Quiet ride. Radio and Controls for heat/ac are confusing and seem awkwardly designed. I am 5'11" and my head is almost hitting the roof so this car not designed for a tall person. Got the auto start from dealer and it came as a separate key fob and you have to turn off car from outside to get in and than restart - a stupid feature. Horn sounds like it is from a corolla from 1985. I added the side body moldings for $200 - car seemed naked and i wanted some basic protection for doors in parking lots. No auto trunk opening - that is a big drag - overall had it 4 weeks and really like it

After owning 10 other cars and driving over 850,000 miles I decided to give the Highlander a try even with the recalls. I am very impressed with the build quality. It feels solid on the road and the handling is very good for this size of vehicle. I am coming from an Audi which has tight steering and I have had no problem adjusting to the lighter steering feel and I do not notice any wandering on the highway. The V6 is very smooth and I have been seeing 22 MPG on the highway. There are some interior components that appear cheap, but they work fine and that is what counts. The leather seats are comfortable. Overall, I find the Highlander to be a solid performer.

Traded in our 18-month old Tacoma truck for the Highlander. Same pushy salesman/dealer for both. In less than 2,000 miles, the accelerator "lost power" three times. Second time, I went to talk to the sales people; they told us to bring it in to the service dept. the next time it happened. Two weeks later, it happened again. Luckily the third event happened near the dealer. They kept it overnight and replaced the accelerator pedal! Almost got hit on a main road because the car would not move no matter how much I pressed on the accelerator. I could not get of the way of oncoming traffic. Scary! Lost all confidence in Toyota, even though I still own a 2008 Lexus LS460.

Went from a small Ford Focus that was about 7 inches off the ground to sitting up and visible! A little concerned about the light steering. Seems to want to steer itself. Still getting adjusted to size. I have leather and love the captains seats in the 2nd row. Have the third row seat down and liking the cargo space. Taking dealers word that there was and still is nothing wrong with Toyota's gas pedals.

Haven't had this car to long but I've been with Toyota for many many years. The highlander is just about everything you could need in a SUV. Lot of room good gas mileage at least the V4 is. Great car with out paying $40,000.00. Can't get much better then this one, for SUV. We put in a blue tooth it did not come with that.

Purchased Highlander for trips that require lots of room. Have had for approx 6 months. Gas mileage is 21 to 27 mpg. I think the interior dash looks a little cheap. We both enjoy the handling and how the dashboard is laid out. We have no regrets so far and would purchase it again. We did purchase extended warranty due to vehicle having electric power steering.

I test drove a 4 CYL and a V-6, no comparison. I would not go for a four. I wanted a base to save money but I wanted leather and added it at the dealer. They did not have a V-6 base when I test drove, just SE and LTD. I ordered the V-6 base to be sent in from the port. The car looks great and feels great to drive. I was disappointed in the lack of certain things that are not there nor can they be added at the dealer. No outside temp reading, no fog lights, no trip fuel econ reading, no homelink garage control. A car with a 30K sticker, you'd think they would have some of those features! Bottom line, I did not do enough homework to see some of the items I wanted are not on the Base V6.

Cargo space?

Can't tell you how Toyota measures cargo space, but, they must not use the standard formula of W x L x H. The stated 95.4 cu in is grossly overstated: Measuring w/ back seats down, from the tailgate to back of front seats, from the roof to the floor (top of lowered seats), and, from the widest width, I come up with 70" x 34" x 42". Totaling 99,960 cu in. Divided by 1,728 cu. in. that make a cubic foot, I come up with 57.8 cu ft. If the driver and passenger are cargo, that might make the difference. Measuring the same area on the Honda Pilot, I come up with 74 cu ft plus about 1 1/2 feet under the back mat. And, the seats all lay flat. Unlike the Highlander.

Since my 2002 Highlander with 183,500 miles needed some major repairs, I decided to trade it in on the 2010 model. My 2010 is just the base model with a 4 cylinder engine, front wheel drive. This engine is a bit larger than my other model, so the extra pep is nice, ride is good, interior is nice and comfortable. This physical size of the Highlander is just right, not to small, and not too large. The engine is a bit noisy at times, and I hope the 6 speed transmission last like my 2002 model. I change my own oil & filter religiously at 3500 miles, and the only thing I do not like about this new engine is the oil filter, it is a messy process.

This vehicle is an all around great car. Performance is excellent both off the line and out on the highway when passing. It is very comfortable to drive (I am 6' 5"). Gas mileage is as advertised 17-23. I have never gotten as low as 17 and it averages 21-22 in a combination of city/highway driving. The S/E has about everything standard that you could want. The only option that I elected to get was the XM radio receiver. I would highly recommend this car to anyone. My only other Toyota was a 1970 Corona which was a drive to work car. Kept it 14 years and 140,000 miles and it never failed to start one time. Best car I ever owned. Hope this one is as good.

We purchased this vehicle as a second family hauler. We shopped the Chevy Transverse, Mazda CX-9, Ford Edge, and the Honda Pilot. The Mazda and Chevy had the looks but when fuel economy and reliability was factored in, we decided the Highlander fits our need. The ride comfort was also a deciding factor in this decision. We're averaging 19 to 20 city and 24 to 27 on the highway (75mph) with the Base V6 package. The higher numbers were achieve during moderate driving. (I don't baby anything I drive). Don't let the recent recalls scare you away from this vehicle, test drive one and you will see.

Purchased the vehicle as a secondary hauler for my wife. We have no kids at home but just in case grand kids arrive, this vehicle is just the ticket. We shopped the Chevy Transverse, Mazda CX-9, Ford Edge and decided on the Highlander for fuel economy and reliability. Don't let all the noise about the recalls fool you, test drive one and you will be pleased. We average 19 MPG mixed with 24 to 26 MPG highway driving at 75 mph. This is with the V6 Base package. My wife likes the idea of a large vehicle that's easy to maneuver. As with any vehicle, all is not perfect. Sometimes the steering feels too light and there is torque steer under hard acceleration.

Just purchased a 4 cylinder Highlander for "Invoice" and not only am I happy about that but the vehicle overall. Are you ready for this, I'm getting over 30 MPG combined city/hwy. Of course I'm not driving like a have a race car either. There is plenty of power when you need it. I own a Prius and have learned some techniques by utilizing the "Cruise Control" as often as I can. I compared the Highlander Hybrid model mileage to the 4 cylinder Highlander and for $20K less, I am getting better mileage. Invoice cost was $26,014.00 plus tax & license at 2.9% financing. People have got to be insane to pay upwards of $48K for a Highlander Hybrid (Limited).

Not a 'Toyota Guy', first one ever, first 'import' ever, but I love this car. Made in America: Check (Princeton, IN); Great Gas Mileage: Check (24MPG avg); Family Hauler: Check (3 Kids under 7). Went with the 4-Cylinder (Not hauling anything) and purchased after-market leather from the dealership. Looks great, feels great, and is much easier to keep clean with the kids. 6-Speed 4 Cyl is very peppy on the highway with superior low-end torque, and the mpg rivals the MUCH more expensive Hybrid. Cargo is very-skimpy with the third- row up, but when folded flat it's downright cavernous back there. Spacious seating for everyone - even 3rd row isn't bad. Hard to find flaws with this vehicle.

Decided it was time to finish the minivan phase of our lives. We bought a Highlander and like it very much. Not as much cargo capacity as the minivan, but that is to be expected. Interior on Limited has all the options we need and is very comfortable. I would have rated build quality higher, but we recently discovered a grinding/rattling noise in front end when going over bumpy sections of road. Need to get it to dealer for a checkout.

I traded my 2007 Camry LE because I wanted to get back in an SUV. I looked at 4Runners, Muranos, GMC's, and Volvo's and was very close to buying the Infiniti FX35. My girlfriend suggested that I drive a Highlander, best advice I've gotten in a while. I drove the Highlander and was hooked. I selected the Limited AWD, classic silver, sunroof, and black leather interior. The interior gives you maximum space for 4 or more passengers, a much greater value when compared to the FX35. It actually has an echo when the doors are closed, I kid you not! Easy and fun to drive and looks great at the curb. I added running boards and side moldings to complete the trim and glad I did.

Purchased our highlander in May09. Needed space for new baby & 2 retrievers. Looking for a vehicle to mostly highway but clearance for winter and some bush roads.Live in northern British Columbia with winter from Nov to April.Performed well in winter with Winter Michelin's. (Standard Bridgestone tires are for summer use only, almost found out the hard way with a late season snowfall.) Stability control kicks in frequently in town but not on highway. Is a very comfortable car for long trips . Fuel economy could be better but it is a awd heavy vehicle.

This thing is great. Drives smooth, quiet inside, huge power. It rolls somewhat on corners, but it's tall, what do you expect?. The interior design is fantastic. It has plenty of room in the middle row and sufficient room for short adults in the 3rd row (though I wouldn't want to sit back there for a long road trip) and certainly big enough for kids. Also cool: the third row folds flat easily & the tonneau cover and insert from the middle row both stow in the car - no lost parts. The visibility out the back is limited, so backing up is fun, and the slab-like hood and front fenders make it difficult to see the corners.

I wanted to purchase true SUV, did not look much after test drive for Highlander. Smooth, powerful engine, easy to park, lots of room for kids in 2nd row.Steering is bit light so on highway not a top performer but just need to be careful, brakes are strong, so far gas mileage is excellent for SUV.

Just traded an 2007 Acura MDX with a 2010 base 2.7 base Highlander with 3rd row. At first , i regret it. The Acura is so much fun to drive while the Highlanders including the SE's and Limited are sleepers and drove like Minivans. Recently, I installed a much better looking leather than the factory ones called Classic soft and had DVD with live TV called Flo-TV and this van has been amazing. We could watch ESPN, MSNBC, Disney,Nick Jr. ,MTV., abc, nbc, etc. This 4 cyl is high on low range torque and just as powerful as a V6. Great MPG and zero percent deal

Traded in a '05 MB E320 after being fed up with avg annual maintenance of $1000. Drove it from SC to Dallas, TX and EVERYONE loved it, ESP. the kids. Very roomy for the 1st 2 rows. 4 Adults and 3 kids {ages 9,8,7} fit comfortably without the center seat on the 2nd row while driving around the city. 0% for 60 months also makes it even that much more enjoyable! 2nd Toyota purchased within 2 weeks of each other {due to 0%}. Also averaged 27, that is right, 27 MPG at an average speed of 70 MPH over a 6 hour stretch of flat interstate. Always dreamed of owning an E-class since middle school, but I DO NOT MISS IT! Love the HL.

Just got the new one about 2 weeks ago. It's got about 700 miles on it now. Simply to put it, So Far So Good !! I can't think of any other SUV better than this one for a family size 4 or more. It might not be a fast and agile car in local streets but smooth... very smoothly running car in highways, and very quiet and comfortable. I was actually running down the highway last night, and I thought I was driving at about 50~55 mph but it was over 70. You know what I mean? It was so smooth that I couldn't feel the speed of it while I was driving which never happened with Honda that I used to think the better car maker. I would definitely recommend this vehicle to everyone I know.

In spite of Toyota's recent problems would buy another today! All my Toyota vehicles (buying them since 1970; all new) have been problem free, routing maintenance, change the oil! Great product!

Without question I would recommend any Toyota product. I have been driving a Toyota vehicle since 2003 and have been very pleased. The Highlander is a great SUV. The only problem is the 3rd row seat. The cup holders take up a lot of the storage space. The 3rd row seat is now standard and is something my wife and I don't need. Toyota should go back and make this optional or change the design to eliminate this problem.

Purchased in Nov 2009, use primarily on long trips, although some around town avg gas mileage in low 20's mixed driving, on highway gotten as high as 27 mpg with the V6 AWD, doing 65 to 70. Very satisfied with that. Comfortable, roomy, love the heated seats, have to be a computer science major to work the nav system and other elect stuff. Great car so far. No problems re recall issues.

I just traded in my BMW 330i for this HL and no regret. I drove a Lexus RX300 before and I like this HL much better. Very roomy and has a lot of power. I think it will look better after I install the running board, bug guard. Strongly recommended this vehicle to anyone looking a mid-size SUV. Oh, did I mention I got it for $100 under invoice + 0% interest for 60 months, 2 yrs free maintenance and good value on my trade-in. I miss the BMW for a few days but when I think of I won't have to fill Premium gas and pay $120 for an oil change and I smile at the HL :-)

Owned Highlander now for few months and I cannot be any happier with it. Perfect combination of power and smooth ride, secure handling but not sporty as I expected. But for family with kids more than enough room and quiet ride. Brakes are strong and gas mileage is excellent for its size. Towed a 3000 lbs boat no issues.

I have owned other SUVs including Lexus RX(the first generation), Honda Passport(built by Isuzu and drove like Isuzu) and Honda Pilot. This car drives as good as Lexus for a lot less money. Because of all problems Toyota have had recently, I'm sure they fixed all they had to on this car by the time I bought it, and thus I feel very safe in it.

The car has a nice ride and nice interior features. It is quiet and I generally like the layout of the interiors. We generally like the care. The trunk space is really small and it would be helpful to have a split third-row seat. The biggest problem so far is the GPS system does not allow for a passenger to input a destination while the car is moving. This is a real downer for road trips. It makes for a very, very clunky GPS system.

Brakes are strong and responsive, interior room is great. Kids love 2nd row space compared to 2nd row room for our BMW (3 series). Drives on snow with no issues and stability control kicks in when needed.

I own a 2005 Toyota Sienna which is the best vehicle I have owned in recent memory. When it came time to purchase a mid size SUV, the Highlander was at the top of my list. Even after all the media hype, it is still better than the competition. My average fuel economy has been 19-20 mpg. 70% highway 30% city. My only complaints of the vehicle are the poor OEM tire choice and the angle of the dash display.

This is the 3rd Toyota Highlander we have owned. We have two, 2001 Highlanders that are still on the road and have never had any major issues. Even with the recent recall publicity, I would buy another Toyota Highlander in a heartbeat. The seating is very comfortable and roomy;, the ride is smooth. The only negatives, on city driving I barely get 18 miles to the gallon. Now, if only I can figure out how to use the navigation system, bluetooth and other wonderful electronic, new-age technology! A very satisfied Toyota Highlander customer.

Very poor fuel economy. It is running a lot worst than (17/23) mile/gallon. Less than 11 MPG in city. Another problem is the car does not move right away once the gas pedal is pressed. There is at least half second delay.

I bought this car because I believed the stats as fact. I read that this SUV give you about 18 miles/gallon in the city. But my 2010 toyota highlander got me only 13 to 14 miles per gallon. I only got 750 miles on my SUV right now, but I had to fill up 4 times already. Each time cost me about $45.00. I am spending about $850.00 (car payment, insurance and gas)per month just to drive this car! Totally not worth it!

Great ride and very comfortable. Car handles well and is very quiet. I wish that the leather seats would heat up a little faster, on cold days in the North east it is a shock on the rear sitting on the cold leather. Like the display unit in the console with the rear camera. Haven't had the opportunity to take it on a long ride on the interstate so not sure what mileage would be for highway driving.

This is a superb package, loaded with value. The Limited Ed has very refined suspension, combined with the car's insulation, it makes for a very quiet and peaceful commute. The Limited ED is also dressed up a bit with 19' inch rims, chromes door handles, stain finish roof rails so looks good cleaned up for a nite out, but is equally adept at home depot and can tow 5000 lbs. It's one of the few trucks that is versatile enough to play both roles...and with the savings you can afford to buy a small sports car for top-down motoring.

33 yrs old and having baby #2 on the way, I had to sell my 1998 4Runner. Got the Highlander loaded with everything I wanted all for 8K less than the MDX. Great styling interior and exterior and love the acceleration and not to mention the gas mileage for a larger vehicle. This is the ultimate family friendly SUV. 2nd row seats have massive amounts of room and still plenty of space for cargo. Like Toyota and the quality and reliability that comes with it, don't think you can go wrong with this vehicle.

Months of research and test drives came down to Flex vs. Highlander. Went with Highlander largely due to more conservative styling. Extremely quiet, comfortable car. Black after-market leather looks sharp with silver exterior. Great visibility, light steering, easy to drive. Factory tires seem questionable, prone to slipping under even light acceleration. Ride can be a bit bouncy, but overall a very refined, quality vehicle.

All of the bells and whistles are really convenient, such as the Smart Key, Bluetooth phone, and auto front and rear A/C. It has good power and is fun to drive. I would like to say that this is our first leather vehicle. Just as nice as our traded cloth Nissan. Highly impressive cockpit, road visibility, and totally quiet ride. My children love the DVD player, an added bonus no doubt. Rear reclining seats are a must. The whole no-key thing takes some getting used to. It's like the VISA of SUV's. Toyota has offered a level of refinement related closely to a lux cousin. You won't find another with more room, comfort, style, or versatility. A clear choice from any vehicle in its price range. You can't go wrong with this one.
