Bought this car new off the lot and I have owned it for 1.5 years. From the very start I've had nothing but problems. Here's a list of issues: The GPS hard drive unit crapped out, entire unit replaced. Sun roof leaked twice in the first rains. Had to have new seals put in and buy a car cover. Sound system has been horrible from the start. At low volume the sound goes in and out in waves. Plastic seat casing along driver side seat kept popping off the track and then cracked. Passenger seat motor died, replaced. Check engine light keeps reappearing for gas cap (erroneously). Electronic e-break system keeps getting stuck engaged causing excessive wear. There's more but I'm out of characters.

An outstanding vehicle

I have owned quite a few cars in my 45 years of driving and this is one of the best. It doesn't have the element of luxury my BMW's and Mercedes have had in the past but it is far and away the most trouble free and reliable cars ever. I have had it in storage since I bought it and used it briefly in 2010 driving from West Coast to the east but through, snow, ice and tornado's and incredible winds it was effortless. A quality automobile and although I love driving Beemers I hate taking them to the shop which is a constant. Subaru does it right and the 2010 redesign was an excellent example of fine engineering, while not the fastest definitely the safest and most reliable I have owned.

Blind spot and poor sight lines are a deal killer

I've had this car on lease for over two years, it will be going back to the dealer. It's okay for around town driving at moderate speeds. On the highway I find the car exhausting to drive on trips longer than 30 min. The sightlines make me feel as though I am hurling through space. CVT delay is significant and the blind spots take away my confidence so I stay in the slow lane and rarely go over 65mph, which is not my normal style of driving. I live in the NYC area and am accustomed to aggressive driving and drivers. My boyfriend hates driving this car too, and being a passenger is no better. The design/windshield angle makes the passenger feel as though we are going to crash at any moment.

This cars steering was so bad, with about a 1/2 inches of play at center that I took it back to O'Brien's in Fort Myers FL with less than 150 miles on it. I asked if I could get my 2009 Outback back. They said there was nothing they could do. They said my 09 Outback was sold back to Subaru, and gone. I later saw that it was in there back lot. So they lied. So I traded for a Hyudai until I can figure out what I want next. I lost about 10 to 12 thousand that weekend. I have had 45 new cars.

I have had my 2010 Subaru Outback since August 2009..... still one of the best, trouble free cars I have owned. Previous to this I had a VW Touareg and a SAAB 95 Wagon. The Outback feels more solid and I have only had to take it into the shop for regular servicing..... meanwhile the others spent more time in shop than out of it. Definitely a quality product! I wish I had got leather seating but, that's my fault not Subaru's.

Our Outback is now 2 years old and has been a great vehicle. It's big enough for trips around town, yet fits in the garage. It has more than enough leg room in the rear seat and still have plenty of cargo room. The CVT transmission takes a little getting used to, but overall has been great. It'll take a second to build revs when you hit the gas, but a normal transmission would take a second to downshift too, so it's about the same. Child seat is easy to install and remove. Our Outback has been averaging 28 mpg with mostly intown driving. On a recent trip, the highway MPG was averaging 34. I've seen a lot of complaints about steering issues. I haven't experienced any, ours does fine.

I had this car for exactly one year. Special ordered and purchase in Nov. 2009 and sold Nov. 2010. I am still seeing reviews noting the same deficiancies I left in my March 2010. review. I went on to purchase a 2011 Honda CRV. Still not the best, but it doesn't have ANY handling issues and comes with same crappy Continental tires. It has a better throttle response and the car is secure when entering and exiting tight exit ramps. The sound system is a trillion times better than the Harmon Kardon. I see many of these on the road and wonder if the owner has regretted their purchase.

Odometer just turned 20,000. Have had none of the problems some other owners reported. Wish Subaru had some of the things found on practically everybody else's cars at this trim level [doors that lock when you put it in gear, turn signals on mirrors would be nice] but without a doubt, I feel more secure driving this than ANY other car (or truck) I've ever driven since I started driving in 1963. [and considering I am a "car-aholic", that's over 50 vehicles!]

If I had written this review after three months of ownership I would have given it a solid 5 stars, but here's the thing - after you drive it for a while, you start to notice a lot of "little" things that turn out to be pretty darn big. The car stalls at low speeds, especially on inclines, but often on flat surfaces. This is annoying when climbing in a mountainous area or in stop-and-go rush hour traffic - dangerous because when you tell your car to GO! you expect it to go! Took the car to the dealership, described the issue and after a test drive they said that they didn't feel or find the problem that I was talking about. The AC doesn't stay cold and is inadequate for West Texas heat.

Seems every time Subaru revamps a car there is quit a lot of controversy. I formerly drove a 1997 OB with 5 speed. I loved it but had to give it up due to poor ergonomincs. I'm 6'3" and used to get a lot of right hip pain when I drove for more than 2-3 hrs. I had a lot of 16 hr plus cross country trips in that car and it used to just wear me out. I had to swear off Subaru untill the 2010 came out. Love the fit and feel. Very comortable, more economical with the 6 speed. Not a dog but not as sporty either. For real travelling, there is no substitute for comfort! Nice to be able to get to Sugarloaf after the 2 1/2 hr drive feeling fresh and ready to ski! Very relieable so far!

It has been about a year of ownership of my Outback. This is the family's 3rd Subaru and my 2nd Outback. It may be too nice a car for me. Subaru owners use their car for hard work, rough terrain and bad weather. The 2010 model change made the car nicely refined and still able to perform those utilitarian functions. The upgraded audio/Bluetooth option was a good investment. I love the CVT transmission: in the mountains it adjusts as necessary instead of the constant shifting up & down on convential trannies. The 4-cylinder is more than adequate to climb on the interstate hills at full speed. The larger interior is great. The gas mileage is much better than expected.

Unintended acceleration - Beware. Test for it before buying

After the purchase, I discovered that the car has an unintended acceleration problem in 2 situations: 1. At very low speed, eg inching the car with foot on the brake while parking, turning the steering wheel 15 degrees can make the RPM go up from 700 to 1000. This results in the car surging forward. 2. Again at low speed, just when you let the foot off the brake, the car inches forward at about RPM of 650. After 1-2 tire revolution, the RPM pops up to about 900. The car is still moving slowly, but at a higher speed. This is a particular problem in tight parking situation or stop and go traffic jam. This is at least a big annoyance, but can potentially cause property damage or injur

2011 Outback 2.5 limited w/auto CVT

Over all, the vehicle is awesome. Had some issues with rattle in roof liner up near the sunroof, front passenger door. Dealer fixed. Another issue now surfaced after the custom installed the ambient light package, now the switch for the vent on the passenger side is stuck in the open position. They also put watered down wiper fluid in the wiper fluid tank during the last oil change. Drove to upstate NY where the washer jets froze up. Had to go to the store and buy real wiper fluid that doesn't freeze, then let the car engine warm up the frozen lines. Other than that, no other issues.

Traded in 1997 Outback, should have kept it!

I bought this 2010 in Dec 2009 and ready to trade it in for something other than Subaru. 1st, the old OB had a car chassis (great ) and now an SUV/Truck chassis (awful). 3 recalls, stalling with A/C on full, squeaky seats, under powered engine, can't find door unlock button at night, rocky and jolting ride (Truck chassis). This car is much bigger than the real station wagon Outback. I wish I knew at the time Subaru made these major, value destroying changes, to the Outback. We are very disappointed with this car and I wish I knew they made these

Sports sedan of an SUV

I wanted a family car/suv that drove like a sports car. This is the car chose. Fits the bill pretty well. I did research at Subaru outback.org and found a lot of them add a Subaru 19 mm rear sway bar kit ($72 online) that makes the car corner much flatter but still ride well. This 10 minute easy install job provided my family sports car. Best $72 upgrade ever. Dealership had no problem with the switch for warranty. Drives with a German feel now. Watch your speed, the car likes to be driven over 60 mph everywhere!

I needed a larger car due to family expansion and was drawn to the Outback due to the MotorTrend SUV of year award. Since owing the car since June, I believe that award to be false advertising. Our 2.5 Ltd does have good mpg & excellent interior design and ergonomics however there are too many minor issues to be truly satisfied with the car. The 2.5 H4 with the CVT transmission is weak and clunks when getting out of D or P; steering wheel vibrations @ 70-80 mph is hand numbing during long trips; Non-folding side mirrors annoying when parking; rear end sways in side winds; AC does not stay cold when idling; roof cross bars inadequate for most rack systems; the stereo sounds terrible. Sigh.

We've had the car for 11 months now and are pleased with the performance and reliability. The only maintenance we've needed was 2 oil changes, the last included checking for 2 recall issues (neither was found on our car.) Cargo room is adequate although with 2 adults and 2 large dogs we did purchase a roof basket since we car camp frequently. No complaints about handling, in fact the car handles quite well, very fast off the line and easy to drive on winding roads. Much nicer to drive than the Xterra we had before although not as rugged.

We had a steering shimmy at 60+mph, but was fixed with dealer changing wheels/tires upon pick-up. Great all around car, but for a "Premium" trim that costs about $28000, missing too many little details. My Scion($18000) has one-touch auto up/down windows at ALL windows, the Subaru only has the driver's side. For an "outdoors" car, the door cup holders should hold a Nalgene Bottle. Throttle response in Reverse is horrible. Great off road, great seats, awesome amount of space in second row and rear cargo area. Folding cross-members are an excellent idea. the front seats are comfortable and seat heaters are quick to heat. Driving for MPG, I can get around 30-33 highway/city mix!

Very very pleased! Quietest ever. I love the CVT transmission and the paddle wheel shifters on the steering wheel for holding me back down the mountains w/o wearing out the brakes. I got the tan cloth interior with a gold exterior on the premium model then had the dealer send it to a leather shop to convert to tan leather for about $1200. Getting 30.5 mpg avg so far. Have put 18,000 mi on it already. The media hub and stereo on the premium is super. Love the safety ratings and the all-wx option. My 85 year old parents love to ride in it. I use a thin cushion on the seats to mitigate bottom firmness and headrest pitch discomfort. I really like this car and also own Explorer and Saab.

Coming from a Nissan Xterra to the Subaru was exceptionally easy. The 2010 Outback offers the greatest value, safety, fuel economy, and quality for a discriminating buyer. The 6spd is clean and crisp with close ratios for easy shifting. The AWD system performs exemplary with the only problem being slight cases of over confidence (a few trips around an empty parking lot to get used to the car is a smart move!). Subaru hit the mark with this car. The appeal of the vehicle is with a wide range of buyers with styling that is simple yet great for a family. Some have had issues with recalls on the vehicle but that shows a company willing to listen and improve their products.

Nothing To Write Home About

My first Subie, be aware of the shakes that can occur with this car. Do some digging before you buy. Good gas mileage for the size, which is nice. There is a negative, very poor acceleration, I have the four with a manual transmission. You will need to plan your moves in the highway, faster traffic will come up fast in the passing lane and flooring the car does nothing. Comfortable ride on the highway, good seats.

First time Subaru owner and have driven about 15,000 miles since January purchase. Getting excellent 28 MPG which is about 40% freeway - 40% mountain - 20% in town. This Outback was rock solid when driving over 250 miles in a bad Calif. coastal storm last winter. Previous car would have been all over the road, especially in the mountains. We have hauled a lot of stuff in the spacious trunk. We've owned a lot of cars but so far this is the best overall vehicle.

Stalling and Shaking

Like other Subie owners, I'm experiencing sputtering and stalling when coming to a stop. CVT shifts down and rpm plummet below 500 or it stalls. Slight shimmying at 60 to 80 MPH. No fix found for either to date. Multiple recalls in the 9 months I've owned it and taken in for service 3 times to address stalling issue. Deeply concerned about safety risk if car were to stall in a situation that would put my family at risk. Outside of that, I love the vehicle.

I have had my OB since March 09 and so far it's been great. Took a road trip to Sedona and averaged over 30 MPG. The 2011 has the folding mirrors which would be nice and the fuel efficiency gauge has got to go. My only real complaints have been that it idles very high in the morning and on cold starts and the passenger side airbag sometimes does not show activated when a 120 lb woman is sitting in the seat.

This is a great snow car, however it developed the well documented front end shimmy almost immediately. Many of the convenience and entertainment features are quirky or poorly implemented (such as a Nav system that is horrendous and can't be read with Polarized sunglasses). Subaru finally admitted that their proposed fix to the shimmy problem would not really fix the problem, so we traded the vehicle in. Gas mileage was mid-20's in town, 30 and up on the highway. Dealership process was generally poor. A road force balance would fix the shimmy for 1000 miles or so, then it returned with a vengeance. Proposed permanent fix involved almost entire steering system rebuild.

This is my 2nd review, first being after i owned the car for just one month. a much happier time. Within the past 3 months i have returned to the dealer for 3, that's right, 3 recalls as well as my coolant leaking causing my engine to smoke. I was told at the dealership that i have no leaks, simply an air pocket had burst, causing all the coolant to dry up and need re-filling. What?! Well last night i placed cardboard under the vehicle and guess what i woke up to this morning? Wet cardboard! I went from a Jeep G.Cherokee to my Outback, but will be going back to Jeep as soon as my lease is up! Rather pay a tad more at the pump and drive a reliable vehicle. Going back to a G.Cherokee.

Bought my Outback in late February and it has been a great car. I've put over 18000 miles on it commuting to visit my fiance in Dallas (I'm in Houston) about every weekend, driving to Flagstaff,AZ and back and then driving up to Maine and back. I have had 0 complaints. The power was more than sufficient in the mountains and canyons in AZ and the gas mileage has been superb-low 30s on the highway, high 20s in the city. Comfort has not been a problem, even for the 20 hrs straight the fiance and I spent inside the car on the way back from Maine. Between my mom's BMW X5 and my Outback, I would pick my Outback. Definitely recommend.

2010 OB leaking sunroof, & oil pump

I've owned the 2010 outback for a year and have had a leaking sunroof for, yes, a year. After two different dealers attempted and failed at the repair (it leaks primarily during pressure washes, but drips when it rains, I moved on to the national customer service for help and their conclusion is that all 2010 sun roofs leak and they are NOT designed to withstand car washes. The bottom line is they will NOT repair the sunroof end of story. The car is now in the shop for an oil leak. CVT has great MPG, but I question the durability. Customer service is poor...very poor. Too bad because my 2000 OB was great. Suby lost a customer for ever.

Don't get me wrong, I really do love my Subaru. It has awesome gas mileage and goes great. Its the little things that you might just "expect" that I'm finding. Like: the passenger seat is manual and doesn't have the up and down movement or back support, if you put the window lock on you (as the driver) cannot work the windows either, when you turn the car off you cannot still listen to the radio or adjust the windows (even if a door hasn't been opened), I don't know about other models but on really hot days my air just isnt cold enough, there's a few other "little" things but I cant remember more right now

The concept of the car is perfect. Excellent fuel economy, lots of cargo and passenger room and an available manual transmission (a rarity nowadays). The execution is less than perfect. A new rattle or two every day, wallowing handling (although the smooth ride is a decent consolation) and serious quality and safety defects. If you own a manual transmission equipped Outback (or will own in the future), make sure you get the TSB performed to fix the stalling issue (a major safety concern).

The 2.5 L engine is plenty for highway acceleration and high altitude driving. I like the interior design and look. All the controls on the dashboard and steering wheel are comfortable and intuitive. The AC is sufficiently powerful. The music system is ok with the circle surround and speed adaptable volume features. The driver and passenger space is plenty. There is good front, side, and rear visibility. I like the cubby below the cargo floor. Initially I found the drive to be floaty and strongly affected by crosswinds and passing semi-trucks at highways speeds. So I replaced the rear sway bar with a thicker 19 mm STI bar and the ride improved considerably. I definitely recommend the car!

So, I have had this Subie for a while now. I think its a great car! The 4 inch raise is welcome(you still dont have to worry about rolling like you do with SUVs). Now this car is no speed demon (don't mistake this for a WRX!), but it has plenty of get up and go. I went up a 16% incline with very sharp turns and had fun doing it going 40 (In manual mode of coarse :) ). This thing is going to stay on the road. One thing that surprised me, was the very nice sized gas tank(18.5 gallons). I fill up 1/2 as much now! If you live in a hilly area, be careful, I live in Oregon, So it's very hilly and the hills can eat gas up quick! I guess that will be for ANY car though!

I have owned my Outback about 4 months and have had a consistent vibration that starts at 60 and goes to 71. Subaru is well aware of this problem and to date, has no fix. This is not my 1st Subaru, but may be my last. Factory Customer Service is very poor. Not what I would expect. I will not wait much longer for a fix before the Lemon Law comes into play. This is not effecting all Outbacks. I would highly recommend a lengthy test drive before you take delivery.

I bought this after driving a 1999 Forester for 10 years. We also have a 2005 Outback in the family. I initially like that this Outback is bigger, but quickly found that it is clunkier to shift and does not have the pick-up or power I could feel in my old Forester. Also, the trunk/hatch door is unnecessarily heavy and a pain to open and close. There have been two recalls necessitating trips back to the dealer for fixes. Now, after having the engine just cut off during turns several times, I have learned from my dealership that they've seen this with 2010 Outbacks. Engines can just shut off while driving! Seriously dangerous and the recall for this has not yet been written.

I traded in a 2002 Pathfinder with the main goal of getting a more fuel efficient vehicle. I worried about moving down to a 4 cylinder, but the CVT helps offset any horsepower loss - even carrying a family of four up to the mountains. I average 28 mpg with about 40% highway driving. This vehicle has a surprising amount of interior space seeming only slightly smaller than my wife's 4-runner. For long trips, we usually add a Yakima Skybox Pro 16S (important as it is one of the only boxes that will fit this car) and a hitch mount bike rack. Loaded down we still average 23-25 mpg driving in the Colorado mountains.

I bought my first Subaru after a long search. Chose it over a CR-V, primarily for handling - the Subaru is very solid. I love the AWD - it saved my life this winter during a very difficult snowstorm. In my previous car (a Toyota Camry) I would have been off the road. I love the spaciousness of the interior - a big factor in my purchase decision. The rear seats fold down in a second, and leave lots of flat room, unlike the CR-V. The gas mileage has been fantastic - at worst 28, at best 32 mpg. The recalls are a big issue - my dealership is an hour away - that adds up to many added miles on my new, not-exactly inexpensive car! Wait for the 2011 - let them fix the recall issues.

I was in love with this new body style since it was released in 2009, finally bought it at the end of June 2010. Traded in a 2004 Honda CR-V LX, which was a great car but the Outback was a huge upgrade for me. I did a lot of research since they first came out but never drove it until the day I purchased. Some people say it takes some getting used to for the CVT but I came from a 5 speed manual and didn't really notice a difference except for the lacking of the changing gears motion in a automatic car. My husband has a 2004 Forester and the new Outback is way bigger. Speeds up nicely and can pass cars with the best of them. I have no issues merging on to highways.

Loving my Outback, I am a first time Subaru owner and it is great and fun to drive. Comfort level wonderful and enough room for a car seat in the back with plenty of leg room for a toddler. Just the right size. My husband drives and SUV and we agreed to scale down. I looked at all crossover, Rav $, CR-V, GMC and this one was the bested priced, best rating for safety. Hands down this car came in first and a good all around.

Original upholstery build quality was poor and I wrote sub of America and sub of Indiana - alerting that if I can see the poor upholstery - what couldn't I see. In the intervening 6 months 3 recalls. A piece of crap. And oh - no one of responsibility ever even wrote with a comforting statement. Avoid Subaru outback.

Driven 4000 miles. I am really happy with the purchase. Needed a family car and was not interested in SUV gas mileage. Been getting 27 mpg combined. The CVT is slick but does get confused at times. It is a little funny looking and after coming from a BMW m3 performance and outback should not be in the same sentence. But its versatility and price can not be beat.

I've driven this vehicle now for 9 months. Solid vehicle in all respects. I'm not sure about "fun to drive", but for a vehicle with this power and height, I believe it handles extremely well! Cabin is much quieter than prior Subies we've owned, and the cloth interior (my prior experience was with leather) has been a very pleasant surprise. Car is sure footed in winter weather, and the only time I couldn't move (on the stock tires) was trying to climb a steep driveway with 6-8" of snow already on the pavement. Finally, despite prior reviews which panned the standard sound system, I find that mine is perfectly fine for casual listening on the road. Options such as XM radio were pricey.

Bought the Outback in late Sept '09 looking for reliable inexpensive AWD transportation, expecting some frozen precip here in WNC. Read existing reviews, and found a couple of very negative comments about the standard sound system (which I bought anyway) - otherwise very positive reviews to that point. Overall, I've been VERY pleased with the car, which now has just over 8K miles on it. I added the XM Radio (which I wouldn't be without these days) and after listening to it for 9 months, I still don't understand the complaints about the standard sound system - mine is very acceptable. On recent trips, I got about 30 mpg. The CVT is great, and the H4 is very adequate for day to day use.

This is a wonderful car except for the navigation/audio system. However, the backup camera is a necessary. The navigation system is so bad that it is unusable in city traffic situations and is downright unsafe in it characteristics. It does not say street names, is unreadable in the sun or when you turn on your lights during the day, you cannot change or operate the nav system when you are moving. The audio system uses mhz instead of treble and bass settings. Also, no fix in sight! For the money, get aftermarket.

Took the new car on a long trip. The cruise control resume creates sudden acceleration, Wide Open Throttle (WOT). The economy indicator drops to lowest reading whenever I encountered a hill. This is an obvious design flaw and shows a lack of attention to detail and safety. What other flaws does this vehicle have?

I have only 2,100 miles on this vehicle, but my first driving impression was really rewarding and it has only improved. the mileage is excellent, average 30.5 with my highest at 34.1. This fill up i exceeded 504 miles and still had 1.5 gallons left. The car is very solid and it is really great on the highway. It has every useful feature you need, with no unnecessary, frivolous add-ons. I am really impressed with the handling. I just don't understand why previous owners are not happy with the additional room and the new style. I think it is great looking and performs flawlessly. It even has lights under the doors to light the ground. How cool is that.

Has all the positive attributes of an SUV - AWD, roomy, ground clearance, smooth quiet ride - without the MPG penalty or awkward size. I am getting over 25 MPG in mostly in-town driving, so I expect around 30 on a road trip, which is way better than the EPA estimates and most of the competition. This is my second Subie - I put 142K on my first with few issues, so I anticipate great reliability.

Best features for the money, seriously considered a VW Jetta Sportwagon TDI, however felt too small inside. If the Subaru had a diesel available it would have been much easier. In our first 3,300 miles averaging 27/28 mpg everyday driving and 31/32 mpg on the highway at 70 mph. These are actual numbers, not those on the dash computer which seems to run 1 1/2 mpg high. The more I drive it the more value for the money I feel we bought. Replaced an Audi A6 Quartto with 197k miles. AWD is the only way to go, not only for winter driving but also in heavy rain and even on dry surfaces. The CVT trans is super quiet, only at hard acceleration is it noticed. The paddle shifters are great.

It is a little louder than I expected. I called the dealer and they said it was normal with CVT and the OB. I hope it stops soon, or I get used to it. Other than that I LOVE IT! It is a beautiful car and very comfortable. My friends and family liked it so much they are all looking to get one. Feel of luxury with a great price!

I again read the edmunds review and i find it very flawed. Most American like the new styling. It's clean and crisp and classy. The highway handling is great but i can't comment on off road as i haven't taken it off road.The mileage is great. 30.5 mpg first tank with wife, dog and all our gear. Second tank i will hit over 500 miles. I drove the 2009 model outback and chose not to buy it, but this year, well, they did it all well. Take it from a guy that drives and buys one. Any why was it chosen the SUV crossover of the year? Edmunds, get your head in gear and rate this car higher. It sure is.

This is my first Subaru. Love it! CVT transmission takes some getting used to. Car is bank vault quiet on the highway. Excellent on slick roads. Put just under 4000 miles on it on a trip to Texas in April. Twice during the trip got 500 miles on a tank of gas and that was with 3 adults and all our luggage and a large cooler. Can hardly wait to take it to Vegas this fall! I like that the car sets up a little higher than a sedan, makes it alot easier to get in and out. The only thing I have a complaint about is the drivers seat. It could be a little wider. The bolstering on the seat bottom and the back is a little tight. All in all very happy and I hope to be driving this car for many years.

Replaced a Honda CR-V, was a very good decision for us. The Outback is roomier, more versatile, has better features for the money. So far, we are very pleased with the decision. CVT took some getting used to - the wind up/wind down is not something I have experienced before. Resulting gas mileage is a reasonable trade off. We thought about getting the V- 6 - glad we did not.

Wife and I returned to Subaru after we decided to replace our 01 Legacy GT Sedan. The OB 2.5i with CVT does a very nice job regarding comfort ability and mileage. Regarding handling? If I compare it to our old land cruiser its fantastic! If I compare the handling to our old Legacy GT its terrible. The OB is a very good handling SUV and a very marginal handling car as to be expected with the SUV ride height and ability. Rear seat is king when it comes to big kids car seats and comfort etc. The CVT took some getting use to but it does a fantastic job keeping to the power band. Subaru needs to build a turbo and non turbo Legacy GT wagon! Not everyone will find the SUV/Car performance likable.

I was very impressed with the performance and ride of this vehicle. It took a few hours to get the feel of the steering (small wheel, which is comfortable) and the transmission (cvt) rather than the upgraded radio i had the dealer install a hands free phone system, a auto dimming mirror, mud flaps and rear bumper protector. I had a Pontiac Aztek which i was very fond of and was hesitant about the move to the Subaru. But, i immediately felt comfortable with everything about this vehicle. My first tank provided 30.5 mpg, which is great. the seats are a little smaller than the Pontiac, but comfortable for me, my wife does not like the passenger seat. That's it. Very nice car.

After driving my 2010 outback for 25,000 miles, I can honestly say this is a terrific car. Seats are comfortable, visibility is good, suspension is excellent on the often pot hole ridden roads I drive without being overly soft. The CVT tranny is awesome. My driving is mostly highway and suburban, not a lot of stop and go city driving or traffic jams. I average 30 mpg. Acceleration won't blow you away, but it is entirely adequate and the CVT's smooth power transmission moves the car just fine up to highway speeds. Can't forget Subaru's AWD system. Driving it in winter weather was amazing. Up the mountain in a snow storm - piece of cake. Build quality is excellent, no issues so far.

Good interior design, not that kind of cheap plastic style as in Toyota Camry! Plenty of space, nice touch on the fine details, such lights in the cargo area, hooks for shopping bags, surround sound effect, auto-adjustment of audio volume based on speed, instantaneous and average MPG, etc. Good car-like suspension. Very quiet ride on local roads and highways. Very good gas mileage, 29 MPG after a week of daily commuting, 50% on state highway and 50% on local roads. Acceleration a bit slow with a 4cyl, not bad for an AWD of this size and this MPG.

I picked up the new Outback during an intense Northern Ohio blizzard!! It was love at first drive. Handles great with the AWD; Solid feel; Very roomy back seat for kids, plus plenty of cargo space. I get lots of positive comments on the Outback from friends, as well as strangers! CVT took some getting-used-to, but like the salesman said, "it just goes!" Not a rocket by any means, but it seems to help on fuel. Mileage has been pretty good at around 26 mpg in the city.

Within a month of owning this car, the thin piece of trim above the rear hatch release snapped in half. To fix, the entire rear panel (with multiple parts, like the logo, lights, etc.) has to be bought: $400+. Thanks, Subaru. Why isn't this a large, solid panel? And why can't individual parts be purchased? Also, the hatch door can be difficult to close, making me repeatedly get out of the car to close the door. You have to slam it. Otherwise have loved the car. Road trip mileage of 34 mpg/500 miles on that tank! Previous car was 01 Forester with 180K.

Teenager driver wrecked our Grand Cherokee and we wanted good visibility, all wheel drive, heated seats and economy in replacement vehicle. Five months with Outback and wife still says every day "I love my car." Mileage hasn't been as good as we'd hoped, but the style, access, build quality and utility of the vehicle are perfect. Of course, i'm comparing it to a 13-year old jeep, but handling is quick and fun. It leans a little in cornering. Car runs down the highway like an eager hound with no complaint except for fear we might stop. I just feel smart in this car, like I made the right choice after much searching and pondering.

I can't tell you how many cars I sat in trying to find a comfortable driver's seat with good leg room (I'm 6'1"). The Outback is just perfect. Love the heated seats, the padded arm rests and the steering wheel stereo controls. Auto dimming mirror and puddle lights are also a nice touch. This car is so smooth on the road, but more than stiff enough on the off road bumps.

first oil change - get oil on garage floor. think it's carelss cleanup. several weaks later - still fresh oil. back to dealer - and it's the crushable washer/gasket thatr was not seated correctly and/or overtorqued. told it needs to be replaced each time. seem to confirm on various web sites. design looks like the pull tab on a pop- top can. done to save money or enrich subaru dealers. either way it stinks.

Acceleration is better than expected. Very good suspensions make potholes bearable. Trunk size very nice. Easy to get in and out due to increased height. so far really liking the car.

We chose this car because of the rear seat room, which is plentiful. Overall the car is great. It's comfortable and the MPG is great for an AWD vehicle. I also like the rack system. I have had issues with the power steering, it seems loud to me. Some other minor complaints: Door cup holders don't accommodate water bottles (in a car marketed to outdoor enthusiasts), no power seat memory, no rear seat vents, windows vibrate when slightly opened, and the turn signals are not very visible from the side (needs additional side signal and even one in the mirror). Finally, the manual says not to use snow chains, which can be a problem in Oregon if you go to the mountains infrequently!

Our 1999 Outback was totaled recently. My wife insisted on getting another Outback or perhaps a Forester. We were shocked how huge and hunky they have become. So we settled on an Outback. Hope they solved the head gasket problem. Only have driven it 500 miles so far. Hope to keep it fifteen years. Averaged 26mpg in our first fill up.

I have owned this car for a little less than a month. Our family has always trusted Honda but after a disagreement with their dealership we stormed out and went straight to Subaru who was 2nd on our list. So far driving this car has been excellent, so much better than I first anticipated. It had all of the features that we were to get from the CR-V and some more. At first I thought I would have some difficulties driving a longer car but not at all. It handles very nice and smooth, gets pretty good gas mileage (25 mpg driving in mostly hilly neighborhoods and occasional freeway). Bluetooth handsfree is a bonus that we did not expect!

Hello, Love the car. We purchased the car with 41 miles. I love the feel of the leather and the seats are very comfortable. The dual zone AC is great because I run hot so I always need the AC on. We just took the car on a long road trip with lots of hills and open roads. We averaged 31.5 MPG. Great! Around town I am at about 24 mpg. The fit and finish is great. No squeaks or rattles. My car does not have any vibrations others have noted. My other car is a 2004 Mazda 6 wagon which I also love. However, the finish, stereo, ride, of the outback is great. the power is less then the Mazda, but the Mazda averages only 19 MPG.

I love this car. It is so practical, yet stylish. I get so many compliments on it. It's a very capable SUV with good gas mileage, many creature comforts, and an impressive list of well-thought-out features. I have had some hiccups on my particular vehicle, such as trouble with cold starts and a noise in the steering column. However, Subaru has done a fantastic job addressing these issues and won't rest until they are completely resolved. You cannot go wrong with this vehicle!

I purchased a manual 2010 Outback after wrecking my BMW in a snow storm. It definitely has great all-weather traction, and is very comfortable. I'm very tall and I fit very comfortably in the front seats. The power front driver's seat is nice. It does OK on the highway, but is more jittery than my old car. I thought the manual transmission would be fun (my last 4 cars were manuals) but the clutch engagement is very high, and not progressive. The 4 cylinder engine has just enough oomph but is very noisy at anything more than medium throttle. The handling is clumsy compared to a car, but probably better or on par with other mid-size SUVs. Should have gone with the AWD Ford Fusion

My wife and I own a Honda Pilot and we love it. When it was time to replace our Grand Prix with a small SUV we narrowed our list to CR-V, RAV4, and Forester. We wanted something with good MPG but a nice ride and good quality/reliability. We went to Subaru and found the Forester not worth while, but they suggested the Outback. It was GREAT! We don't like wagons, but this is a true SUV. It drove much better and quieter than the RAV4 and CR-V and with better fuel economy! We've had it a month now and it is so much fun to drive. Excellent space and combined mpg is ~30 mpg! Overall, this is great so far. Hopefully the reliability remains good.

Needed a kid-carrier and traded in our Camry Hybrid, making us a Subie family (other car is an 07 STi). What I like: AWD, height of an SUV, smooth ride quality, comfy interior, great looks, more space (than Camry--esp for car seat/trunk) and for a gas-only engine, good gas mileage. What I wish were better: leather seems "loose"-- will have to watch for bunching up later, change out MPG gauge for something useful, not sure I like the electronic parking brake, would like a bit more grunt from the motor (yes, I know I have the 4 cyl), would have liked rear passenger vents. Those are nit picky things though. Overall, this is an outstanding car that suits the needs of a small family.

Have put about 2000 miles on our new Outback and we're loving it! We considered a Toyota Venza, Acura RDX and this and after driving these vehicles, the Subaru was the winner hands down. While we don't consider it quite as stylish as the other two, this car is quiet, fits just right and has the features, gas mileage, quiet good ride and build quality we were looking for. We're averaging 26 mpg back and forth to work and have averaged 31 mpg on a 350 mile trip so far. And it's all on regular fuel. Trade an Audi A4 wagon and the ride height and roominess of the Subaru are so much better!

Subaru Outback -Quality Control Issue

I took delivery with only 3 miles on the vehicle and noticed a steering vibration. My dealer encouraged me to take delivery since the tires probably needed to be broken in. Anyways, the steering vibration is worse, and to date, nobody has the solution. It forces you to use 2 hands on the wheel at all times to ensure adequate control of the vehicle. This has been reported to SOA. Now I wait to hear what is the solution. Based on internet research, this is a common problem with several new outbacks. I have less than 1,000 miles on the vehicle to date. On the positive side, this model is a great improvement in the quality of interior finish including seat comfort and extra space from the 2008

After multiple 15+ inch storms the Subaru really earned its keep. The new interior size is a plus; I'm not a fan of the exterior design with the "lifted" look but it proved critical to getting through the deepest snow and a 700 foot long driveway. Very nice and competent in all weather. Wife said last week she can't imagine being happier with a car after several Europeans. Performance is leisurely if you're used to 300 HP family vehicles. Get the 6 if you want more power. The car keeps revealing how well thought out it is, like the way a downshift blip on the paddles will have the trans. simulate a downshift and will hold that gear downhill and return to normal full-auto operation.

Great do-it-all vehicle, comfortable and quiet ride, loads of storage, good gas mileage, low price (compared to similar size cars), convenient features, AWD dependable traction. The new lines of the OB maintain the sleekness of the old OB while giving it a substantive feel. Some used to normal transmissions find the CVT odd, but the lack of jerk in moving from gear to gear is the way the driving experience ought to be. Some think the electronic parking brake weird. Like the CVT, new may seem strange, but once you get used to it, you may think, "That makes sense." Subaru has a reputation for quirky cars and devoted fans. If innovative is quirky, this car qualifies and created a new fan.

Have had it about 3 month about 5000 miles. The mileage keeps getting better with every tank full. Started at 28 mpg am now getting 30 mpg with a 30% city 70% highway driving. Been in 3 heavy snows and it handled great. Like everything about looks, comfort, mileage, handling it's all good.

Purchased my first Subaru about a week ago, an Outback 3.6R Limited. Traded my 2004 Lexus RX330 in on this jewel. The Outback is awesome on the road; quiet, smooth and comfortable - quieter than the RX. Got the Nav system, and I like it a lot. And for those who have complained about not being able to make Nav and Bluetooth selections while driving, get over yourself! It's a safety issue! This is the most fun-to-drive car I have ever owned, and the fact that it takes regular gas is great. I look forward to many adventures with "Alice" (as in Alice Springs, located in the Australian Outback). I even have a mascot for Alice's back seat - a small stuffed Kangaroo, named "Subie-roo"

A big change for me from an Acura TL, but I wanted a car with some better storage space. I actually went to Subaru to look at the Forester. I didn't like the looks or feel of that and then noticed the Outback. I love the styling and it is very comfortable. I'm still getting used to the all-wheel drive feel vs. the front wheel of my Acura. I drove an Infinity EX on the same day on the same route and it was no comparison. The Outback was much better with more storage space. The drive is comfortable. I did have a little trouble with my transmission where it would "bang" into gear when coasting at a slow speed (10 mph) and then accelerating. The reflashed it and all is well now.

Extremely satisfied so far - wanted an AWD vehicle with manual transmission that was good on gas and could haul my bike and kayak. Also have two small children, so ride quality was also important. Outback has met or exceeded all of these requirements. Comfortable on long trips - averaged 33 mpg highway; getting 24.3 mpg in mixed driving. People have commented on how they like the dark gray color, and that it looks like a more expensive vehicle.

I purchased 2.5i Limited CVT w/Wheel Arch Moldings! So far after over 500 miles, I'm getting a little over 28 mpg mixed highway/city driving. I'm surprised at the gas mileage. Vehicle drives smooth and is fun to drive. I think I'm in LUB! However, Every now and then I do hear this weird sound that sounds like a buzzing sound. Not sure what that is yet. I got a Silver one with the black Wheel Arch moldings. I highly recommend the Arch moldings because they give the vehicle a more bold appearance. I chose this vehicle over the following: Honda Pilot, Honda Crosstour, Toyota Highlander, BMW X3, Acura RDX, Volvo XC60, Audi A3, Chevy Equinox, GMC Terrain. I think I have test driven everything!

My wife totaled our 07 outback without a scratch on her. I therefore replaced it with a 2010 limited. First off, I did not like the 'privacy' tinted Glass-it ruined the rear view. Secondly, the multifunction display is really a non-display, it is invisible in normal outdoor light and placed in a bad position. I had a homelink mirror on my '07 but this car came with only a dimming/compass vanity. The dealer wants about $200 to change it, the difference in price is only about $15. I'm not sure about the mpg gauge, it is rarely at neutral and pegs at max going downhill with the engine braking. I wish I had my 07 back!

Took almost 12 weeks from order date until delivery, but was really worth the wait. This is by far the best vehicle I've ever owned, I love driving it. Drives like a much more expensive vehicle. Very responsive acceleration and braking. 3.6 engine has great power and still gets very good gas mileage, avg 21 mpg in city. Extremely comfortable seats. Excellent sound system. Performance in snow is outstanding. Holds the road like a magnet even in deep snow. Hands free phone system is disappointing, not easy to program or use. Heated seats work great but would prefer they turn off automatically when engine is turned off.

The new Subaru Outback is tomorrows car, today; at an affordable price point , with lots of comfort, value, high quality fit & finish. The ride is smooth over bumps and New York being the pothole capital of the world, the Outback makes driving a relaxing and less jarring event. The fuel economy is decent, not the 30mpg we want,still the v6 engine is quiet and powerful. We were shopping for a Venza, Camry and ended up buying an 2010 Outback. This dealer was selling both brands and we test drove and liked the Outback. It feels heavier, stronger and more solid. We got it for 26k about 1k less than newspaper ad. This is our first Subaru, actually my first time driving a Subaru. I got to say it is pretty impressive and worth considering if you are shopping for a wagon.

Traded a 2002 Honda CR-V manual for the 3.6R Outback auto. I live on an acreage and drive gravel every day, plus after this winter realized I needed the ground clearance. With snow tires (must have) it will be a tank. Most CUVs have gotten lower to the ground; Subie is tops here. Love the smooth, quiet power of the flat six; wish the engine came with a manual but paddle shifters will help wean me from my manual preference. I still have a Miata stick so ok compromise.

We've had our Outback almost 2 weeks now and we are delighted with it. It is so much better than I remembered our test drive car ever being. I have owned 7 new cars in my 45 years of driving and this is clearly the best of them all including our 2000 Outback. We love the versatility the Outback provides. It can haul a fair amount of stuff and it can transport 5 in comfort and quiet. It gets reasonably good gas mileage; we got 24.8 mpg in mixed city and freeway driving on the first tank. The build quality is the best I've seen in any new car.

The roof rack on the 2010 Outlook is a disaster. Long the favorite vehicle for sea kayakers you can't fit 3-4 sea kayaks on anymore. It costs a grand at Yakima Racks to get replacement and install a rack that will work. Multiple problems with factory rack and Subaru rack accessories. Hard for heater to warm feet, fan very noisy and interior controls difficult to see in the dark. Otherwise quite happy with vehicle.

My very first Subaru; with 7,000 miles at this point. Performs really well but a few issues came up: for oil change, I was told about the risk of aftermarket gasket that may leak at a dealer in Fort Collins where 2 gaskets were installed instead of one causing leakage (very frustrating); another issue is long start in the cold mornings, possibly needing resetting of computer (only happens in CO, so altitude may be the cause? - does not make total sense as this is fuel injection); back windows fog to frequently in cold. Average roughly 22-23mpg in city drive and 22-25 highway (I have roof racks on). Drives well on snow.

We bought in late fall. Handles great, rides good. Can be tricky getting into reverse & other gears. Layout of controls is very well planned out & easy to adjust for all drivers. We live in the North East and this is the 2nd one we own. It handles the dirt roads in Massachusetts as well as it handles the highway.

This is my first Sub (always had Hondas) and I have been very happy. I was nervous to purchase the car given the history of Subaru's head gasket issues. With much research, it became clear that the issue has been addressed for new Subs. Plus, my dealership covers engine/tranny issues for the life of the car. Gas mileage greatly improved after 4000 miles, and with a little warmer weather. 26 mpg around town - 30+ on highway. Great car! I plan to hand it down to my 7 year old when he turns 16. If you are on the fence about purchasing, just do it. You will be happy you did.

Traded up from my 02 Outback Sport. Great room for the family including a 6ft tall son in the back. Love the 6 speed manual, especially with the short throw shifter installed. Average city/highway is ~24 mpg (about the same as my smaller outback sport). Very quiet and the lumbar support is great. Looking forward to the next 100,000 miles

This is my second Subaru. Had a Legacy wagon previously and loved it. The new 3.6R outback I bought is higher but more powerful. Love the paddle shift and handling. Highly recommended. The version I purchased has identical power seats on both sides (no height problems here).

Overall, happy with the car which meets 90% of our needs. Economical for size, comfortable, versitle, well designed ergonomic interior. Navigation, audio, voice activation very unintuitive and poor overall user interface. Nav accuracy and options better on our $100 Garmin. All-wheel drive system good on highways, such as slippery roads. However, ours got stuck in 5 inches of snow and did not transfer power from the 'wheels that slip to the wheels that grip'. Could not get passenger side wheels which had traction to engage. We knew that this would not replace our 4-wheel drive vehicle, but expected better.

I HATE this car and even special ordered it. Constant issues with brake pedal make a clunking noise after your foot comes off. Now I am told "they all do that". $30,000 cars do not just "do that". One tire had a problem and would not steer right, pulled me off the road and I about lost it. Took the dealership a 40 mile test drive to finally discover it. I think it was a joy ride. The cloth interior is cheap. The carpet is cheap. The motor is severely underpowered. Feels like a chug mobile while getting on the interstate. Please someone take this off my hands. Will make you a good deal. What a $30,000 mistake.

Last week I came upon a brand new Jeep stuck in a four ft. snowdrift. The owner (a 20 something male) was testing his new car in the snow. I drove into the snow drift next to him, rolled down the window and offered to call the tow guy. Sheepishly he told me his dad was coming. Put my Subaru into reverse and drove away. This weekend was in Tucson parked at a resort surrounded by 100's of Lexus (the official car of golf resorts) I watched as several people passed by and looked at our car, puzzled as to the new look. My biggest fear was to get run over by an out of control Lexus. In summary, Subaru - rough and wild in the woods and civilized and classy when needed.

At 203 miles, driving 20 mph on residential streets, the transmission stuck in 1st gear with numerous lights on. Undocumented limp home mode? Dealer "service" dept gave me a chat line to call instead of road side assistance. Ridiculous and dangerous non support. 24 hrs in shop and they still don't know what went wrong.

This is our third Subaru and we've loved our 2001 Outback. The most disappointing feature of out 2010 is that the heater does not blow heat onto one's feet even when set to floor alone. When the fan is turned up the noise is deafening and still no heat on feet. We took it in for servicing as we just assumed it must be some blockage or disconnection from shipping. We were told this is "normal". This seems ridiculous as this model touted as being perfect for snowy climes. Should be sold with complimentary boxes of toe warmers! What's up with stationary outside mirrors. Liked the break-aways on older models lots better! Wish speedometer was more precise- only 10mph increments and 20 mph digits.

I've put on 5,000 miles in the first two months and I've been very happy with the experience. It's comfortable and has a lot of nice commuting features; blue tooth, Sirius radio, all wheel drive, and good gas mileage (27 mpg). It's good in snow but the critical test will be how well it does on the beach this May. Good value for all the features included.

After test driving most competitors, both import and domestic, the Outback had the best combination of price, ride quality and versatility. I really like it's quiet ride and the smooth CVT transmission. It handles great in snow. Cold weather seems to reduce the fuel mileage more than I expected. So far I'm getting 24-25 MPG with local and short trip driving. After 3200 miles an alignment is the only warranty service performed. The toe-in was off both front and rear and caused the car to wander a lot at 65-70 MPH. Overall I'm quite pleased with the Outback.

Our 2010 Outback is our 4th Subaru over 20 years. This model is much larger, roomier, quieter and nicer than previous versions! We have the 4 cyl with CVT, currently with 3400 miles. Mileage is 26-28 in town, over 30 hwy! Power is quite adequate and handling great. Ride is fantastic (beats any other venders I've experienced). Many nice creature comforts, including audio, puddle lights, bluetooth, heated seats and easy to locate/use controls on steering wheel. Overall this is the best Subaru Outback ever produced and I highly recommend it to anyone. A great vehicle for all driving and road conditions!

All I love about this car is the AWD. It feels soooo underpowered. Picking up is very slow. Heating system takes so long to feel warm. After a few months, the chemical-like smell inside is still strong. plastic parts feels so cheap inside. maybe the first and the last Subaru for me.

third subaru and this is by far my favorite. Feels solid like luxury car..no it is a luxury car!!! Handling the snow and mud is unbelievable..we got the most snow ever...3 feet. I felt like my car had a snowplow attached in the front. The CVT is wonderful. I used my OB to make tracks in the road for other cars in the neighborhood!!! Drove up to a guy with a new Jeep who was stuck and offered to call a tow truck. (I'm disabled and could not help.) Said his family was coming. I put my OB in reverse and drove on. Sorry, but I loved the look of chagrin on his face. Snow is melting and OB is covered with snow. Hate all the dirt, but I feel like I'm in an OB commercial.

First time Subaru owners and we're liking it so far. We have nearly 6000 miles on the car in just 2 months. We are very pleased with the comfort level while traveling on long trips. It has been in a foot of snow in the Cascade Mountains and on the beach at Pismo. We have driven in major rain, crossed creeks, traveled muddy roads and busy cities streets. It is the most stable car I've ever driven and that includes the 4X4 trucks I've owned. We are getting 27-30 mpg on the highway and about 24 around town. The performance level is surprising for a four cylinder motor. The CVT Transmission is the whole reason the engines feels more powerful than it actually is. Highly recommend this SUV.

I have driven the car 2000 miles. I find that the engine is disturbingly noisy above 2500 rpm. The rear hatch does not have a latch that you can undo before you lift it. Takes quite a hefty pull to open it. If by chance the hatch is locked when you pull, your fingertips are going to feel the pain. At highway speeds the car has a tendency to oversteer. The analog speedometer measures from 0-150 mph and it does not belong in the Outback. 0- 110 mph would be more suitable

We purchased our Outback for the style, comfort, gas mileage, and the all wheel drive. This is our first Subaru and we really enjoy the all wheel drive. The interior and sound system is exceptional. This car goes in the snow!!! Would recommend it to any one looking for good value and a pleasant ride. On dry roads it handles better than any vehicle we have had since our 1972 Camero.

Car is good, but less practical than the older subarus. The roof rack is a ridiculous plastic fashion accessory. I had to drill into the plastic to mount cross bars far enough apart for long items like kayaks, windsurfers, etc. Subaru needs to think PRACTICAL.

First of all I'd like to say that I had apprehensions between the time of buying and delivery. I had to wait 2 months for the delivery and during this time I read all kinds of good and no so good comments about the OB. Well I have been driving this car for about 2 weeks now for 450 km in town and on highway (not done any offroad yet but I'm sure It won't disappoint me) and I am happy to report that this car is the best 4X4 SUV I ever had.

I purchased my first Subaru in 1999. The quality and reliability of my Outback Impreza convinced me to purchase another Subaru. I purchased a 2010 Outback in December of 2009 and I'm very happy I did! Yes, I did test drives of many other top vehicle brands, but felt right at home when test driving the Outback - the nice thing is that I didn't have to learn a completely new layout of controls like headlights, windshield wiper, etc. As I live in Minnesota, my new Outback has gotten a workout in the snow and ice category, and has passed with flying colors. I also do a lot of stop and go driving and am constantly amazed at the gas mileage I get (average is 26-27 mpg.)

Have had it for a month and already drove it on sleet and ice for a couple of days. AWD was great on the ice. Very smooth and quiet on the hwy - doesn't break a sweat at 75. Handles well. Sufficient power. Not the best looking exterior I've ever seen, but all around great car for the $. Very few crossovers with AWD/4WD get this kind of fuel economy.

My fourth Subaru and thus far my favorite. This car is "tight" and well built. The 3.6 is a strong, smooth engine that works well with the 5 speed auto. The navigation system is easy to use and the Harman Kardon stereo sounds great. Interior room is MUCH improved over previous generations and overall it is well laid out. As one would expect this car handles the snow and cold with ease and is a blast to drive.

This car fits my lifestyle. I have two children in car seats and at least one bicycle in/on the car at any time. Living in the NE I also have to deal with snow so I wanted AWD. The price and gas mileage of the 4cyl. looked amazing but I had strong reservations about getting that model as I live in an area populated with short but very steep hills. Then I took a test drive. The 4cyl. with CVT suits my needs perfectly.It is not a race car but there is always ample power for any situation. No problem driving up hills with 15-20% grades. Outside of the engine, the car feels solid and grips the road in a very reassuring manner. It is an excellent family hauler for the dedicated weekend warrior

This is my first Subaru and I was attracted by the redesign. Overall, I like the car, but don't LOVE it like I loved my past VWs. The GPS system cannot be programmed while the car is moving, not even by a passenger. So, if I'm driving and need to change course, even by simply pressing a button for a previous destination or home, the car has to come to a stop, which means pulling to the side of the road if on the highway. Also, there is very limited iPod control when the vehicle is moving. You can change songs on a playlist, but cannot change the playlist while moving, forcing me to unplug my iPod to change lists and then plug it back in, or pull over. That seems MUCH safer...

I planned two years ago that my next car will be a white Toyota Highlander. It took two minutes to change that decision after seeing the new Outback 2010 in front of Costco one weekend last November. Styling is a personal matter, but for me this was the only car in a long while for which I couldn't find an obvious flaw or exaggeration. It was love at first sight. I purchased mine, a white 2.5i CVT last month and absolutely love it (the only white on the lot and ... didn't want to wait). I have 1200 miles on it so far and averaging 25mpg in the city and 30mpg hwy. The CVT is a blast, same as comfort, quietness and AWT performance.
