EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS:SWITCH

Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2006-2009 Accent, model year 2007-2011 Azera, Sonata and Sante Fe,2006-2011 Tucson, 2009-2011 Elantra Touring, 2007-2010 Elantra, 2008-2011 Veracruz, 2009-2011 Genesis, 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, 2007-2008 Entourage, and 2006-2008 Tiburon vehicles. Originally, in April 2013, Hyundai recalled 1,059,824 model year 2007-2009 Accent and Tucson, model year 2007-2010 Elantra, model year 2007-2011 Santa Fe, model year 2008-2009 Veracruz, model year 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, and model year 2011 Sonata vehicles. In September 2013, Hyundai informed the agency that it was adding more vehicles to this campaign, representing an additional 652,512 units. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 1,712,336. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake transmission shift interlock feature, preventing the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position and cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction light to illuminate.

No problems except transmission went up after about 50000 miles. Replaced with remanufactured one under warranty but neither dealer nor manufacturer revealed whether replacement was any different from original. As I recall, replacement only had 12 month warranty on part itself, no labor coverage.

Bought mine in 2013 used with 31,000 miles on it. I like it's simple in design, but seems to be sturdy built and reliable. Now have over 65,000 miles on it and no trouble except for wear / tear items. Front seats are very roomy, firm, and it has a lot of room compared to most cars at this "compact" class. The EPA actually considers it mid sized due to interior room. Only things I don't like about it are the steering is a bit heavy, tight, and the gas pedal is stiff as well. It will get out of it's own way, but not like our 2013 Accent that is a very light gas pedal. Hoping to get to 150,000 plus!

My 2010 Elantra GLS was purchased in May 2011 with 30,000 miles on it. Six months later the transmission had to be replaced and the dealer inserted a refabricated one NOT a new one. Six months later...a front motor mount had to be replaced...and a few months later--a safety recall on a brake part was issued. Now, the car is vibrating again and two independent mechanics have stated, in writing, that a transmission bracket is loose and a motor mount is beginning to crack. After 2 separate trips to the Leesburg Hyundai dealership the mgr stated there is nothing wrong with the car. There are 400 miles left on warranty --then repairs are my responsibility. Staff was rude and non- caring.

Bought a leftover 2010 in Jan 2011 for 12,200, 13,200 otd. Have conv. package and love the xm radio. Now have 57k and the car has been near flawless. Had a minor brake light switch recall. Averaging 30.9 mpg annually. Keep records for taxes. Better mpg on hwy/trips. I change oil every 5k and keep on trucking. Still have original brake pads. Facing some big bills at 60 k: timing belt, trans fluid, probably brakes, too. Could go $1,200. However, with my new Michelins, I could go another 60k. 7/8/2016 96k and still near flawless performance. Timing belt most expensive service. Time for first brake pads at 96k. Must be some kind of record. I feel like I'm driving for free.

I currently get an average of 30 mpg that's through town mainly with some highway, but I do drive conservatively. The seating is spacey both in the back and front. The seats are quite large in the front compared to other 2009/2010 cars that I have seen. The sound is amazing. I barely have to turn my radio up unlike multiple other cars I have test driven/driven (forester, grand caravan, corolla, etc.). I also have noticed that the ride can be a little more than just bumpy over potholes, but nothing severe. The acceleration is slow when preparing to enter the highway, but I hear you can fix that by taking the ECO off. I haven't tried to turn the ECO off though.

The interior is very roomy yet it is very plain and some of it appears bare bones. The car has been reliable but the engine has seemed to run rough since day 1. When I asked the dealer about it I was told it was normal for the new cars to not idle smoothly. (It still makes no sense to me but it is what it is) The car is very fuel efficient but definitely could have had more bells and whistles for the price.

I bought this car used in May 2012. I paid too much, but that's my fault, not the car's. It had been throwing an engine warning off-and-on since I bought it, but the dealership mechanic could not find the problem; told me it was fine. However, with 38k on the odometer, the engine has blown a main seal and is being replaced completely. It appears to be covered under warranty, but I felt no warning until oil started to leak all over the engine compartment. Engine still ran smoothly, good power, no problems...just oil everywhere. And now a replacement engine. Meanwhile I have a 2013 Elantra loaner with 100 miles on the clock. 2013 is a much better car.

I just traded in my Toyota Corolla on this Elantra, what a mistake! This is like riding in a bumpy truck, not a fun car to go for a relaxing ride. We feel every single crack in the road. On the freeway, it is not as bad but in city driving it is so miserable, no one likes riding with us anywhere. Not as good of gas mileage as our Corolla either. We have buyers remorse. We would rather stay home than have to drive this around town

I've read your review on the 2010 Elantra blue. At first I couldn't understand why it was given positive grades for it's performance and then i realized it was a 5 speed manual transmission. I think a fair amount of elantras are automatic, have you test driven them and i am talking about a 2010, although I believe they used the same power train for any number of years. I can't believe it's such an annoying thing to drive, especially when people go around praising them, i think it must be the warranty they like. I'm not sure how many forward speeds mine is but it doesn't seem like it's enough. In particular what i'm talking about is; The car upshifts to early when you accelerate at a norm

overall its not a bad car with the best feature being with 3.50 gas prices 25 bucks about fills the tank at 3/4 empty. with the 5 speed manual i dont have to wait for transmission to shift if i need to pass some body drop a gear and just go. the seating is a bit stiff to say the least trunk space easily holds to big duffle bags. the car did not come with a radio but that was an easy fix. installing a radio was a breeze too 1 phillips head screwdriver and a pry tool to remove face plate.

First I would like to address two issues mentioned in other reviews. Those with "bouncy" suspension seem to have the SE models. I haven't had those problems with the GLS. Also it was said that there is a delay in acceleration. That is true, but that is due to the ECO mode. There is a slight delay when accelerating from below (aprox) 3,000rpm to above 3,000. It has something to do with keeping your driving at low, gas conserving RPMs. Disable ECO mode (by hitting TRIP till you see ECO ON, then holding TRIP until off) and you will have much smoother acceleration.

Bought the 2010 Elantra GLS with 1500 mi as a dealer demo...now have 37000 mi over a year later. No repairs yet just oil changes (Mobil 1) and had the transmission fluid and coolant changed at 30,000 miles. Still have original tires, down to 5/32 of an inch of tread...I recently drove a 2011 Elantra (new body style) and was surprised how much harsher and noisier the ride was than my 2010...must have something to do with the 2011's not having an independent rear suspension.

When accelerating, it lags A LOT; when I punch it, it stands still and then goes. Very dangerous. afraid to let my son drive it. Very jerky. Between 20-40 mph, car lags; Driver's seat upholstry keeps "puckering". Was given a hard time by dealership. Told me it was normal wear and tear. (Have seen several Hyundais from previous years with 100,000 miles on them & they don't have this "wear & tear" problem.) They finally repaired it, only to happen again a week later. Now they're trying the old "wear & tear" line again. Very loud car. Feel every bump I go over. Outside noise is loud. I'd turn up radio but radio fades, when I come to a stop. I could go on & on. Do not get this car!!

I was a little suspect with Hyundai because of their reputation from their early years, but when I was car shopping the civic, toyota, and chevy cobalt did not compare in bang for the buck. I just wanted a gas friendly car to replace my z71. The worst mpg I have ever got is 29mpg with 36mpg on my recent trip from sc to fl. I made it from olrando to columbia sc on one tank of gas! interior is excellent given the class of car and the ipod hookup is great. The only two concerns I have had are: the light colored seats stain REALLY easy.. even from a water spill and my transmission has done a few quirky things while accelerating. Nothing to make me think it is going to break, just a hard shift.

I now have about 16k on the car, over 100 mile daily commute. I ask a lot of the car and it meets my needs. It has plenty of pep. I can get to / cruise at 80-85 no problem. I just got over 32 m.p.g. for the first time, slowed down used cruise, plenty roomy - reliable, seats have improved. It does not glide or float down the road like my 08 Sonata 4 cyl but I had my 2002 Elantra 8 years 193k, you can't go wrong with a 2010 Elantra not as pretty as the 11 but for about $13,500 c'mon auto, cruise,ac etc. - average about 30 m.p.g.

easy & fun to drive, reminds me of my motorcycle only is has comforts. bought it jan.7th under blizard conditions, does great in the snow. quiet, smoth comfortable ride. no radeles or squeks. sounds solid. milage range from 18 mpg (cold weather 10 to 15 min warm ups) 31 mpg on the road. I live in WV so not much interstate driving. i'm getting 26 mpg on the average and i love it. enough power to pass coal trucks in a short space going up a mountan, (that's the test). easy enough on gas i'm not afairade to go to the filling station anymore. doesn't feel like a compact car when i'm driving, excalent audio system, all controls heater & so forth easy to use. well desinghed i'd recomend it.

this thing sips gas, is alot of fun to drive since it is a manual trans. i have to keep checking the tachometer to make sure it is still running very quiet at idle. which the idle is low way low around 500rpm??? the interior is adequate for tall drivers im over6 feet tall and no head bumping. overall performance is about what i expected from the 4 cylinder. i do miss my 3.7l v6 dodge but the pain was at the pump. so i look at this little can do car as one huge tylenol on my wallet.. with the 10/100 optional warranty and the dealer provided maintenance it will be a long time before i reach into my wallet to put out a dime for this car outside of the payments and washes

Performance and realiability wise I really like this car, but sadly it does have it's flaws. I know I'm not alone but researching all the forums, Hyundai is known to have RATTLES. The dash board likes to rattle, glove box is REALLY noisy, the last two days I have heard my door panel rattle. I purchased this car in November 2010 and I have been to the dealership 3 times. Fourth time is tomorrow (thank god for the lemon law). Buyer beware...If you hate rattles in your NEW car, think twice...

I got the SE instead of the GLS for the ESC. Not only does it bounce considerably and constantly at any speed, it fishtails when driving at speeds over 55 and trying to gradually correct the drift out of the lane. I went to the dealer and they of course didn't find those issues. They said it would take time to "break in", and they lowered the tire pressure a bit. I contacted Consumer Reports and made a complaint, and also contacted NHTSA and filed a complaint with them as well. The more complaints, the more likely they will look into the problems. The Vehicle Safety Hotline is toll-free at 1-888-327-4236.

I started out dealing for the GLS, but move up to theSE because of the ESC. I didn't test drive the SE because I thought it would be just like the GLS, and they were cutting me a great deal. Got it home and then, drove it to work. It was very stiff and extremely bouncy. Sometimes it seems to level out, but once it starts bouncing, it bounces. Dealer says it's because of the larger wheels and tire, I don't know. It's a great deal turned sour. Does get very good mpg.

I've had my Hyundai Elantra GLS for about a month. It's quiet on the highway, gets as good as the mpg rating, has some neat features (Ipod plug/XM radio)) with easy to view/access interior controls and overall is fun to drive. I moved from a 2001 PT Cruiser to the Elantra and though I miss the great storage of the PT, I don't miss the lower gas mileage or the harsher ride. Overall I love the handling, the smooth ride though the exterior styling is a bit bland, I still give this model an outstanding rating. Additionally, the Hyundai has an outstanding bumper to bumper warranty.

Comfort, yet cheap interior. The cabin of the car is quiet compare to its competitors. The ride is comfortable with acceptable handling quality. You may want to get SE edition to increase handling property to make the ride more fun. Problem: after less than 2 months of ownership. 1) Squeaky noise occur when turning my steering wheel. 2) Knocking sound + minor vibration from rear wheel(s) when going more than 20 MPH.

I test drove Civic, Corolla, Soul, Mazda3, Focus, Cobalt, Aveo and others. I found the Elantra the best overall, huge points for comfort, roominess, and quietness. SE version had the handling and road feel the GLS lacks. I average so far 29.4 MPG mostly city driving. Not bad at all. Decent stereo, tilt/telescope wheel with controls, nice brakes and decent power for a 2.0L engine, a turbo would make this a little screamer. Decent looking, I got the Black Noir Pearl, decent wheels, very nice fit and finish, no rattles or strange noises. Large Trunk. Maybe lacking a few bells and whistles from other cars, but a great all-around vehicle that does what it's suppose to.

The brakes are too abrupt at low speeds,a slight touch at 2 mph and it and jerks the passengers as they are to touchy.OK at driving speeds. Also, when I push the driver door open there is a tendency to inadvertently lock the door and is discovered only when I attempt to reenter the auto. Aside from the above the car is great.

Had test drive with recent 2010 models of toyota prius, honda fit, honda insight and elantra. I liked the elantra ride the best. (No brake jerk like in prius, and no flimsy like honda fit.) Especially for the price you get all basic feature anybody with family looking for small/medium size car. Bluetooth, Keyless entry, ipod cable, Black and roomy interior is fun and comortable. Also air bags all around, quality wheels and break system, powerful engine, CC all features are perfect what a family guys is looking for. Thanks to Hyundai for making decent car available for the price!

On September 16 a drunk driver pulled out in front of me. My 2010 Elantra was totaled. Thank God the seat belt worked because not one airbag deployed. The car was totaled. I'm still feeling the effects but at least I'm alive.

Bought 2010 Elantra GLS. Sticker $17,710, transaction price $15,500 with another $2,500 in rebates. Walked out the door after taxes and fees owing $14,700, 0 down. Nice car, solid build and QUIET, more so than cars costing much more. Yes, there are hard plastics, but gaps are tight, no squeaking or noises. XM satellite a disappointment, as it cuts out constantly. Only other complaint is that cold idle speed really high, 1500 rpm and doesn't drop by much after a minute or two of idling. I'd rather see 700 rpm. 34 mpg in combined driving. Definitely recommend as best car value for the money.

Let's be honest, if you're looking at this car, then you probably can't afford a lexus, mercedes, or bmw, all with nicer features. So when you look at this car for what it's worth (and not compare it to cars out of its range), it's an all around great car! It drives great, gets decent gas mileage, and it's a very safe car! I was able to get the GLS sedan loaded with all power, cruise control, xm radio, auto transmission, and other features for just over $15,000 (after $2,500 cash back). :)

Came out of a 2001 Infiniti I30 with 192K miles. This car is quieter at freeway speeds and at idle (nearly silent). Getting around 30 mpg overall here in Scottsdale, AZ on mix of city and freeway. Car feels very safe and the build quality is indeed excellent. This is the last year of this body style so I know all the bugs have been worked out. Everything is easy to use in this vehicle, the quiet cabin really allows you to enjoy XM/IPOD or cell phone call.

This is my 3rd Hyundai, just sold my 2002 Elantra with 193k miles - bought it new. I looked at Civics, Focus, Fiesta, Mazda 2 and 3 plus Subaru. I qualified for $3000 in rebates. I just bought a 2010 Elantra GLS PZEV, automatic with cargo net and mat for #13,100 plus tax, tags and docs. The sticker was like $17,870. You can buy other cars but $3-4k more. I own a 2008 Sonata with 62k miles. Hyundais are reliable.

This is my second elantra, my first was purchased new in 2008, a GLS model. I traded the 2008 for a 2010 SE model because I wanted the safety features and black interior the 2010 had. They are both great cars! The 2008 GLS was a wonderful ride and very dependable, it was hard trading it in. I love my new one, it is a rougher ride because of the sport-suspension but you get used to it. I test drove many cars before I bought my elantra's but always came back to them. You get a lot for your money and a great warranty, it is definitely a great buy.

Happy with Purchase!

After much consideration I got a Hyundai due to price, options, and warranty (which I also got an extended warranty because I drive for a living). My car runs great, is very quiet, and is comfortable to drive in (I did have to get used to the headrest though - just a little different). I have not noticed any of the suspension issues others have mentioned here, but I did notice a difference in how the car rides with the SE vs. the GLS model. The SE is a much nicer ride, and hugs curves like a pro. It is a very responsive vehicle. So far I have gotten 30 mpg on average. Also the car looks small from the outside, but feels very roomy inside - which I like very much.

Got the SE with navi/sunroof system. Navi is alright, it's not as nice as Honda's, but it lets you access it while the vehicle is moving - no lockout! Would be nice if you could manually enter GPS coords but alas. Car seems peppy and responsive around town most of the time but it feels gutless on steep hills, make sure you downshift in advance. It has a great turning radius, suspension feels tight. I am used to a 4x4 pickup truck though. City/hwy mixed mileage has been around 24 even with taking it easy, so a bit disappointed by that. Hwy mileage is low-30's so far. Stereo sounds good, only downside is no easy way to manually tune XM radio like you can AM/FM radio.

Test drive before you buy!

This car meets or exceeds my expectations. I test drove several competitors including the Mazda 3. The Mazda 3 is probably a finer car, but not $7,000 finer. This is my 12th new car and I have never been more pleased with a new automobile. The gas sipping engine give plenty of performance for my pocketbook.

I reviewed road tests of several vehicles of this size and went on to drive a few. The Elantra came out on top. I believe it fills all the requirements for a vehicle in this price range. For the customers complaining of a bumpy ride, you should have test driven it more. You are not getting a Rolls Royce at this price. What you are getting is good basic transportation with all the safety items included. It will get you where you need to go. It is a great buy!

Just purchased a new Natural Khaki GLS and I'm thrilled. I feel like I got a really good deal on the car too. Got it for $14250.00 and with the admin fee it was only $14,600.00. I was ill-prepared for the hard sell on the extended warranty so I purchased one but canceled it the very next day so I'm happy about that as well. The car drives great and seems like it will get great gas mileage. My wife and I drive mostly on the interstates but I really haven't noticed the suspension issues that have been brought up here. It drives as smooth as any any other short-wheel base vehicle that doesn't have a sport-tuned suspension.

Into the dealership 3 times with under 1000 miles for suspension noise in front left. Adjusted twice and replaced strut and mount on third visit. Better but still makes popping and cracking noise on bumps more noticeable when turning. Dealer has been great even provided a free loaner but now claims the problem is fixed. I guess I will just turn up the radio - kind of sad for a new car. Also, living in the Buffalo area a temp gauge would be Nice. Over all a good car for the money and warranty but you really are just getting that, nothing extra.

Like so many other reviews that I just read, I have my own suspension nightmare. How can a brand new car have such a rough ride. My old 1994 Chevy Cavailer is a much smoother drive. Why would they build a car that is so unpleasant to drive. When I tested the car, I convinced myself that the bumpy ride was all in my head. On my way home from purchasing my Elantra, I wanted to make a U-turn back to the dealership. Please do not make the same mistake I did. Test the car with close attention. If you feel too many bumps...run away fast...or you'll regret it big time...I truly wish there would be a recall on 2010 Elantras due to a poor suspension performance...

2010 Hyundai continues to ride flat with stiff suspension. Lots of noise on most bumps. Dealership adjusted seats and bushings. No improvement. Tries trading at 800 miles. Too much of a loss. Take a test ride on an uneven road not a smooth road like I did. Poor economy. 25mpg on highway. My traded cobalt was better.Big Mistake!

I just got my 2010 Elantra GLS w/sunroof for 16,395 (after a week of haggling between dealerships). My Olds Alero hit a snowbank and was totaled so had one week to research and buy car. Was looking between Corolla, Mazda 3, Malibu...about 10 diff cars. I love the Elantra, the 10 year 100,000 mi warranty can't be beat. Feels more luxurious than other small cars I drove. Neat blue backlighting in interior. Great gas mileage - 36 mpg. Looks and feels sporty. 3 mo of free xm radio is cool. Sleek look, good pickup. Really happy with my purchase.

I purchased a 4 door hatchback. I will start out with the negative-low rider- bang, bang, bang over every little bump. I sometimes think a plastic bag makes it bang. The car's suspension needs major improvement. My Chevy Malibu was so much more comfortable and truthfully I wish I had gone back to a Chevy. Gas mileage is about 22.9 per gallon in city.

We live in the northern mid-west with rough winter roads but the ride in my new car is the worst I have ever experienced. You feel every bump not once but twice (front and back). If you like the feel of riding a go-cart this is the car for you. The suspension is so tight I have a head/stomach ache every time I am in the car. It is impossible to drink any beverage while moving. It has been years since we bought a new car and I am heartsick to be stuck with one that is so uncomfortable. Mileage is only at 27mpg. We also own a 2009 Toyota Corolla - there is no comparison to the quality of the ride. The dealership says this is the way they are built. This will be the last Hyundai!

This quiet, comfortable little car has been a pleasant surprise. Good response on steering. Will flat out move when the pedal is punched. I also own a Honda Civic Coupe EX which I love (except for the expensive maintenance costs) yet the Elantra is comparable and maybe better. It's got plenty of storage compartments, roomy trunk. I got 35.7 MPG on the first tank, half on the interstate at 70 MPH. Love the XM radio! Cost for car-$13,485 before the fees and taxes. My only con (and it is minor) is the upholstery. I have long hair that sheds and it sticks to the fabric. I bought covers for the seats but hair sticks to the arm console.

The SE rides very well and accelerates better than expected. It has no problem getting into traffic and the cab is very quiet. The upgraded stereo sounds very good. MPG is averaging 30+ so far around town. Lots of room and storage. Very similar to my maxed out 2001 VW Jetta GLX VR6, without the leather and V6 power. Cost, warranty and added MPG make up for both and I get to use reg unleaded gas now. Front\rear seating very roomy and comfortable. Trunk plenty big and fold down rear seats help as well. I paid a bit over $14,000 for my 2010 Elantra Blue with the comfort package, and I'm loving everything about it. It handles fairly well on the Highway, and the nice fabric seats are rather comfortable. The trunk is a decent size for a small vehicle and the back seat seems to have plenty of room, also. Finally, the stereo system is quite remarkable. I love the fact the XM radio is integrated (which I know is now the new trend). The stereo has good sound quality and it has iPod and USB ports.
