check to make sure all the recalls have been done and make sure it doesn't use excessive amounts of oil because if it uses more than a quart in 1500 miles Toyota will repair it if it has less than 150.000 mi on it. One other thing if you hear any wheel noise it could need wheel bearings so you might want the dealer to repair that for you because that could get expensive.

A very good car, versatile daily driver, weekend warrior-fold down the rear seats storage is great!! Sure footed traction in snow and slippery conditions. Over all a very good ownership experience.

I didn't know until after I had already purchased the car that they were bad coils in the 2006. The coils blow on a regular basis. It is very expensive to repair, and the dealerships don't help you. I even contacted Toyota and they said it was my own problem not theirs.

I bought this car from the dealership, new. They did all the service. This year, with car still under 90K miles, the engine blew. This car had never been abused. Oil and engine had been maintained on schedule. I'm a 63 year old female - no hard driving was taking place in this car. The car was taken in for all standard service points. Was driving back from the airport and heard this sound - sounded like a rod or something - and drove it straight to the dealer. Cost to repair - estimated at $6000 to $7000 or so, before repairs were made. I was not happy. After several conversions and an expression to the dealership about my lost faith in Toyota - I had hoped to own this car to over 200,000 miles or more - they eventually involved the factory. In all fairness, the factory ended up picking up all but about $1500 or so, which I paid. My faith in Toyota has been shaken significantly - I guess in 2006 there was still the legacy of the previous management regime and their lost focus on reliability. Beware.

Great, but has had its share of problems

My wife has had this car since we met. It's her daily driver, as well as our trip vehicle. Overall, it handles very well. The engine is powerful, much more so than my 2003 Nissan Altima (with the same size V6). It handles confidently, and the brakes are string. The few times we've used 4wd in the snow and offorad trails, it worked well. The interior quality is okay, with a few minor issues. The powertrain reliability, however, simply hasn't been there. Since I've been around the car, it rattles loudly on startup. The 4x4 lights randomly light up, indicating a problem, but non found. Recently, the VVT module exploded, causing extensive engine damage. Caveat emptor.

Overall performance was great, but the car really pulled its weight during a recent accident. My 17-year-old flipped the car three times going about 70 mph and landed on the driver's side in a ditch. The car was totaled, but thanks to seatbelts and side airbags, she walked away with barely a scratch. I would recommend this car to anyone.

Problematic 2006 RAV4 V6 Limited

We were so excited to hear that Toyota was building a V6 RAV4. After owning a 1999 RAV4 L for many years, we were ready for a bigger and more powerful RAV4. But because we couldn't get a good trade-in value for our 1999 RAV4, we decided to keep it. That was probably the best thing we ever did. While this RAV4 with the V6 engine si fun to drive, owning it is not fun at all. From whining sound coming from the fuel pump, to grumbling sound caused by the AWD's ECU, to prematurely failed wheel bearings, to knocking steering wheel column, to rusted through "Stainless steel" muffler, to failing ignition coils, and leaking oil lines that almost bursted. Now we have to replace the water pump. Sigh

I'm the 3rd owner of my '06 4cyl 4WD, base model RAV, which had a 110K miles on her when purchased from a private seller. She was well cared for by her previous owners, with the replacement of the rear window wiper motor as the biggest issue. Since owning her, I've maintained her well and she purrs like a kitten & runs like a race horse. I've read a lot of negatives reviews here, but neither I nor the previous owners (judging from car reports and Toyota service records) have encountered any of it. I couldn't be happier with the continued solid & reliable performance of my Made in Japan RAV4, and look forward to years with her. It's all in the personal care and maintenance you give them.

The car has ample power and plenty of space inside. That's the short list of pluses. On the negative side, the car has been a godsend to the Toyota Manassas shop where we purchased the it. Over 76,000 miles we've had to replace all six cylinder ignition coils, the water pump and, just last week, the transmission, a $4,200 repair (luckily covered by our Geico insurance). Then, as we were driving the car away from the shop, we hear a grinding noise on mild turns, a $600 repair to change one of the wheel bearings. Toyota's were supposed to be reliable. Ours was not. Only a Russian Jeep Niva I used to own in the 90s was worse (don't ask). But at least that car was cheap to fix.

Our Vehicle: RAV4 4-Cyl Limited (As in Limited Quality) Our Dealership: Colonial Toyota of Lincoln RI. This is my wife's daily driver. After 50k miles, the vehicle has the following problem: Technical Service Bulletin (TSP) T-SB-0094-11. About a month ago the engine light came on, after running an oil consumption test on our vehicle, the service manager said that it “only” burned 1 quart of engine oil in 1000 miles, which they said was within specifications. This I do not buy given my 2003 Honda Accord LX with 165,000 miles, had never had engine oil consumption issues. The engine output power seems to be in declined. The engine noise within the cabin is worst than my Accord!

I bought a Toyota because of the reputation of reliability. This was my first brand new car, I took care of it especially because I wanted to hand it down to my daughter (just like the commercial right?). Unfotunately, I'm not even done paying it off and it needs a new engine. Soon after I bought it I realized I had made a mistake, but it was little things that bothered me, I felt I didn't get much for the price I paid, and it wasn't all that great on gas. Now with the engine going, I am extremely unhappy with my purchase and most likely will never buy another Toyota.

I've owned my RAV 4 for 5 years now and it's the 3rd Toyota I've owned ('91 celica and '00 celica being the others). All my toyotas have been really great on quality. I bought this RAV 4 because of it being more practical than my 2000 toyota celica I traded it in for. The RAV 4 can get me through the midwestern snow storms without much problems (big problem with my celica). It gets great gas milage for a SUV but the RAV 4 is pretty vanilla. Not really exciting to drive. It will get me to where I need to go but that's about it.

I'm just writing to say that yes, my 06 RAV4 has the high pitched noise at 40 mph. It's been going on for years now - and the sound continues sometimes up into the 60s. Extremely annoying. Also, I have a hum that is constant when idling. Windows stick into the runner - had them replaced once. But issue has returned. Rav4 is noisy, I agree. These little annoyances are causing me to look into another model. Seats are like sitting on cardboard...wish they were more plush and comfy. I get GREAT gas mileage though. Taken trips and once got 31mpg - usually highway driving allots 26-30 mpg and in town 23-24 mpg. Great vehicle - just the constant, daily noises are wearing on me.

Bought my base 4 cylinder 4WD new, have averaged only 10,00 miles a year, and have absolutely no complaints. Very reliable. Great looking little SUV with surprising cargo capability - I once fit a twin size mattress in it with the back hatch closed. Have to believe that buying one of these used is a good choice.

I bought it second hand from US (1 year, 7,000 miles) and drive it in Europe, where RAV4's with 269 hp are very rare. Fun factor is acceleration and faces of the guys from $50.000 branch cars when they cannot get me on the road ;-) It's bigger when it comes to passenger & luggage space then EU model. Good. Very silent compared to cars I had (even Mercedes C-Class is louder inside). Fuel consumption relatively high, but when you check 270 hp competitors you will see, that actually RAV4 isn't fuel hungry really. Interior from stone ages, even 2010 model left it almost untouched. Lack of board computer (EU's have it). Relatively reliable only when properly serviced.

Drove a Rav4 2005 sport that was more fun w/nicer console than 2006 and newer. It drove like a sport car. This model feels heavy, though its nice to drive/missing the same zip. I take very good care of my vehicles. Beware of those who complain & don't maintain. Paint job less than I expected. I live in the country. When I put in reverse about 30% of the time it chokes/knocks about in backing up. Rear Door should have been corrected years ago, opens backward would prefer up. Loyal to Toyota/ 4th Toyota, not enough bang for the buck compared to USA mfg.s w/luxury models and opts. Driving light lives up to the 24 MPG, however, previously all my Toyotas did better than they claimed.

We bought our loaded v6 AWD limited on the basis of some good reviews from reputable auto mags. Those reviews still ring true today, four years after our purchase. The 269 HP AWD version possesses a very sporty driving experience. It handles mountain roads with ease, zipping through corners like a much lower sedan. In straightaway acceleration, it gives performance cars a run for their money. Hardly worth mentioning the very minor repairs over our ownership run. Certainly far less than similar vehicles. Excellent build quality, including exceptional paint and interior materials. You cannot go wrong with the RAV4.

I have enjoyed the vehicle for 4 years. We take it to the Eastern Sierras for trout fishing and can take the steep grades with ease with the V6. The only problem that I have encountered is the steering wheel clunking on slow turns. The steering knuckle was replaced under warranty at approximately 15,000 miles. Now at 29,000 miles it is clunking again on the replaced unit. There is definitely a design flaw by Toyota and they need to own up to it. I will be taking it in for servicing and demand a replacement even if it is over 36 months warranty time limit.

My first SUV, good fuel economy, good comfort & easy to drive. But in my opinion no good build quality, the brakes have been replaced twice, the first time was in Dec. 2007. The dampers has been replaced once. Noise in the back started six months ago, finally the last month Toyota Shop found the cause of the noise: one large screw of the left damper support is damaged!!!

We purchased the RAV4 in feb 2006 , it works very well in city drive , highway ride is dominated by infernal noise , the design is nice but the quality of this vehicle is nonexistent . After the first car wash i noticed a lot of white paint chips on the front hood then soon after 36000 a two thousand dollars array of repairs started : rear shocks, front brakes , intermediary steering shaft , belt tensioner ,dash glove compartment door . At 74500 miles every time i stop an a traffic light i have to shift in neutral because of very heavy vibration and noise and the CD changer works occasionally . The technicians at the dealership find all this normal , if soo , TOYOTA IS NOT FOR ME.

This vehicle is wide, roomy, zippy, comfortable. Has plenty of pockets and storage places. Nice to have spare wheel out of boot compartment. So easy to get in and out of with higher seats and doorway large enough to allow for a tall person without unnecessary stooping. But topping everything is the ease of the electronic steering and the use of cruise control on longer trips on the flats. The only con is the surging of the auto gear system, at unexpected times.

Bought the RAV-4 in Florida before moving to Germany. It is a 4WD with all season tires. In heavy snow & ice I have been slipping and sliding everywhere, rear-end fishtails out of turns and I'm not driving fast. I find this disappointing. I was expecting much better traction in the snow. I also think Toyota needs to put the emergency flashers closer to the drivers side hands and not over to the passengers side, it is very inconvenient. Also, Toyota could redesign the rear door to open up instead of out. Otherwise, I love the vehicle, great cargo space and great turning radius.

My RAV4 is an unbelievable value. I had a 1999 RAV4 before I bought the 06, and it was one of the most reliable cars I have ever driven. Performance/handling is excellent, with ESC (electronic stability control). Fit and Finish is OK, with cloth seating, and some nice interior touches. Major flaws include no cargo net (when I have a heavy load, sometimes things fall out.), and that's about it. My RAV4 is probably one of the most reliable cars out there, today. Truly, my RAV4, is my "Dream" car.

I bought this RAV last summer and could not believe the road noise it generated on highways. Didn't matter that I replaced all 4 tires...it was still so frustratingly loud, after a long trip, my ears would ring for hours. Later I find out that the sound/vibration barriers are pretty much non-existent in this car. The v6 engine is very jumpy and gas mileage is a joke. Poor build quality is not something I associate Toyota with but in this case... Make sure you take one out on the highway before you buy...you won't believe your ears!!

I had a 2002 Ford Explorer that I totaled in a roll over accident & I got the RAV4 to replace it, so far I think it was a great choice! I commute 50 miles to work & it was quite an improvement in fuel efficiency. I live in WI, so I needed something with 4 wheel drive to handle the poor winter driving conditions. After having driven a Ford there is a drastic difference in the design quality of the Toyota- seems to have the driver in mind with the interior layout. I miss having the smoother accelerating power of a V6, but will gladly take the better gas mileage of the RAV4.

Original equipment tires wore out at 40000km (even though they were inflated and rotated at factory specs). Paint damage at 75000km is terrible. Rocker panels and lower door panels are full of rock marks (factory mud guards too small). Gas mileage has never come close to high end of rating, stays around 26- 27MPG (imperial gallons) regardless of city or highway driving. It is dependable but the worst, most disappointing thing is looking at the amount of paint damage on a 3 year old vehicle...unbelievable.

My wife's vehicle, she loves it. Looked at Honda CRV, no comparison. RAV is much sturdier and roomier. Great utility, Camry reliability, pretty good gas mileage (for SUV it's great) and lots of room. I can't imagine a more space efficient vehicle. Takes me a while to find a comfortable seating position for a long drive - I'm 6'2". Wife is 5'3", says the RAV is even more comfortable than my Camry for her. Swing-out back door is a little awkward at times, but you get used to it. Tire pressure sensor is a pain at times (cold weather), but you can disable it. Overall, we've had the RAV 15 months, couldn't be happier.

Please note that the interior is black... not first, but only choice in the metroplex. I love driving the car and the design is great. Importantly, the one-inch difference between this updated model and the Highlander (previously owned the 2002) means a $10,000 savings. I can live easier with the lesser standard interior fabrics!).

I commute from the SF Bay Area to Sacramento,70 miles each way. The stretch of freeway is rough & you feel every bump in the road. The seats are stiff and not enough thigh support. I had to get the brakes replaced at 40k with almost all freeway driving, not stop & go. The car sometimes doesn't start immediately (since purchase) and what I hate most is you can't get the key out of the ignition without moving the gear shift in park back & forth. The dealer says NOTHING WRONG... It had a major oil leak (covered w/power train) air noise from windshield, and rear door. rattles if not on a completely smooth surface. Needs torque & power to rear wheels in turns, & quick acceleration r feels unstable

Traded in an Explorer for the RAV4 and haven't regretted it. Amazing cargo space with the back seat down, and pretty good with it up too. The 4 cylinder engine is very peppy, although with my lead foot and in-town driving I average 21mpg. No mechanical or electrical problems at 33,000 miles. For a single person, couple, or small family its great.

Nice little SUV that my wife loves to drive. Great for driving with car seat age kids due to ride height. 4wd pretty good in Canadian snow and has never been stuck even with the all seasons. Not the quietest or fastest with the 4 cyl but racing is not this SUV's forte anyways.

I'll begin by saying that my RAV4 was purchased to replace a 2002 Buick Rendezvous. So for comparison purposes, the RAV is a far superior vehicle. However, the 4 cyl in my base model is underpowered and hesitates when cold. According to the dealer, this is normal and part of the vehicle's computer program to maximize efficiency. Fuel economy is also a bit disappointing. With a ratio of 70/30 city/hwy driving, I've never exceeded 22 mpg (usually around 20). On the plus side, the all wheel drive is great and the vehicle is very reliable. It's also quite roomy and easy to drive. The hard plastic spare tire cover looks great, but is a bear to put back on!

Best vehicle we have had.

Love the car. Gets us through the snow. Gas mileage is better than we could expect for being called a "truck". Stay with the higher rated Ethanol gas (manual states tested). We have on occasion had to fill up with the regular brands. Expensive!! Had a 1995 Altima before. It got us 100km more on ethanol. This vehicle gets us 100kms more than the Altima on a fill-up. (Both same size of tank.) Averaged 32 mpg on a trip that had freeway and city driving. Original tires were 17 inch all seasons. Very stiff ride. Felt all the bumps in the road. When needing snow tires, we called around and found out you could put on 16 inch tires. Saved us a lot of money, and, have a smoother ride.

This vehicle justified our reasons for purchasing. It performs decently in off road situations, has good clearance, mileage has been 22 city, 27 highway, exceeding expectations. Did not expect the rattles from Toyota. Did not expect the tires to be bald at 30,000 miles. Discovered Yokohama tires are crap. Am surprised Toyota's famed quality experts chose this particular tire. We knew we were sacrificing a soft ride to get limited off road capabilities. We like the spare tire where it is. Like the rear side opening door. Anybody who thinks differently should buy a danged van.

We basically bought the RAV4 to be able to tow a boat and haul the family on a 4 hr trip to the lake every weekend in warmer weather. It is worth it to upgrade to the limited package and the V6 which still gets pretty good gas mileage especially for having 269hp. Plenty of room for the kids in the back seat and the dog in the back. The under-floor storage area in the back is very handy too. We were very happy with this vehicle.

Went from a Dodge Grand Caravan to the RAV4 and am totally happy with the excellent use of space available in the RAV. Smart engineering makes reconfiguring interior to haul stuff a breeze. The V6 is the way to go. Gobs of power and a low of 22 mpg and high of 28 mpg (AWD model). Did not know we would like it so much or I would have popped for the Limited. However, Base has all you need.

Noticed that many have only had their cars for 2 months and are extremely pleased. Had mine for 2 years so here's a real review. Fit and finish, build are very good. I have the base 4WD. Handles great in the snow. The only thing I would improve on is the mileage. I get 22 city/hgwy. After 2 years am bored looking at it. Am waiting for something a little more sporty, that gets better mileage. Am sure I'll plenty to choose from, then I'll say bye bye Rav.

Well, it's gone. Bought it for SUV room and all weather capability but it didn't deliver. And the reliability wasn't what I expected, either. Problems with rattles, stereo, air in brake lines, and loud road and wind noise all doomed the RAV. I did average 23 mpg, and the tires had plenty of tread after 31k, but the Toyota reputation didn't deliver. It does have good room inside and a comfortable back seat (no third row on Sport). Missing a lot of features that are standard on other cars like homelink, 5sp automatic, heated seats, good stereo, audio controls on steering wheel. It just failed to live up to the Toyota hype. Sorry.

I would never buy a RAV4 again. I had problems with the steering that took 2 dealerships to repair. I also hate the cup holders which allow everything to flip out of them. The lights automatically shutoff after 30 when you are unloading it, especially annoying in the winter! The tires have not lasted 20,000 miles! There are 3 bad blindspots. The car has slid since day one in rain, snow, sleet, doesn't matter!

This car is great, quality is world class and the power is unsurpassed in similar small SUVs. Regarding the MPG, if you drive it like a hot rod all the time then you will not get great gas mileage. Yes, I certainly like to experience the raw power every once in awhile - but for the most part I drive like a normal person and don't always test the limits of this car every time I take off. I easily get 25 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.

Purchased vehicle new w/ leather, sunroof, JBL, 30 months/21K ago. Choice was based primarily on "return of investment" having shopped for used versions (CRV/RAV) realizing their high resale values. I am still pleased with my choice, my RAV is roomy, rattle free, comfortable, easy to live with, nimble, relatively quiet, dependable, versatile and averaging 23 mpg in mixed driving. Sure I see more exciting, faster, sexier choices out there (I still struggle with the tire on the back) but whether hauling 4 adults to the airport, 3 dogs to the groomer or 30 bags of mulch I am hard pressed to find another vehicle that comes close to doing them all as well. The RAV has been a $mart choice.

Love my Rav4! Needed ease of entry for Mother and it is the lowest SUV seat to slide into and not climb down into a car. Love uplift hatch when loading cargo, more available space and easy on back (selling point for me). Easy to attach car seats and load the grandkids. Occasional hesitation on acceleration. Wish it had rear A/C vents. Good handling and easy parking. Good mirrors, but I added convex for side blind spots. Slightly noisy, but expected for SUV. Gas mileage not bad for SUV, but I drive 44 miles roundtrip to work on highway, and should be better than it is (about 20mpg). All said, I don't think I could find anything to fit my needs any better. This was a God blessing!

This is our fourth Toyota and second RAV4. The most disappointing feature has been the atrocious fuel consumption - actually getting 16/20 mpg (city/hwy). This amount of deviation from specs is very unlike Toyota. Another gripe is the v. poor visibility of the electronic displays (radio, clock) which become impossible to see during the day with sun glasses on. The car is solid, reliable, handles well, feels safe, has good seating and luggage capacity, has a fairly comfortable ride and is fun to drive.

We've had our 2006 Rav4 Limited 4WD for less than one year - the back seat stitching is already coming apart. It's uncomfortable for both me and my husband to drive more than an hour, no matter how we try to adjust the seat. It does about 22 miles in town and 28 or 29 on the highway. It has a real smooth ride, and we do like Toyota. This Rav has been really good mechanically and visually. Mine is an automatic, 4-door, with sun/moon roof. What sold me was being able to take off from a dead stop, into traffic, without hesitation. That's important to me, having driven so much in Milwaukee and fast traffic. It also turns on a dime. The steering is quite excellent, and I can turn really sharp, to fit into and get out of tight spots when parked parallel. People are always stopping me to ask about mileage, maintenance, and how much I like it. I tell them I love it! It is fun to drive and we think it's great!

There is something very wrong with this car. The list of problems with this car is huge. It grinds, growls, shifts hard, steers hard, and every time I go in for an oil change I have to replace or repair something. I have replaced steering column, and it needs to be replaced again, I replaced battery, front brakes, rear brakes, air filter, fuel filter and all the pricey tune-ups. I've now owned three Rav's and every one has developed a creeky noise in the windshield and this one has a leak at the top of the windshield. The rear compartment has a light in the door which points away from the interior when it is opened. The compartment is dark. The rear door opens sideways which offers no cover from the elements and rear visibility is poor. The ABS works poorly on ice and snow. It pumped my foot off the brake pedal. The all wheel drive doesn't work well to get me out of my driveway. No way would I buy another. The dealer has been very helpful and pleasant to work with. But they haven't been able to fix the windshield problems. Think I may switch to Subaru.

After driving this Rav4 Limited for 32000 miles I recently noticed that when it rains all my stuff in the rear compartment gets wet when the door is opened. Also there is no rear dome light. The light was put in the door which when open shines the light away from the compartment. A representative said it was a bad design and suggested I switch to a Highlander. Toyota should reconsider this rear hatch design. Honda has with its CR-V. I love everything else about the car. Please to Toyota make some changes. I bought this car to replace my 15-year-old Camry. I like to go on hiking trips, and this thing has the suspension and the room to get me where I want to go. It's also a great commuter car, handles well in traffic, takes potholes with aplomb. No significant problems, great mileage for an SUV. Being tall, I enjoy not having to duck my head when getting in and out. I have driven this car over deeply-rutted, sandy and rocky dirt roads with ease, and have slept in the back during a 3-week camping trip. I was thinking about a pickup truck, but now I really don't think I need one - this car has gotten me to all the trailheads I have wanted to get to. After 27,000 miles I couldn't be more pleased.

The RAV runs great, but rides like a light little toy, too much road noise, maybe the tires? The hood looks likes it's going to fly off going down the freeway, my front bumper popped out a couple of times, cheap plastic clips that melted in the Arizona sun. The right mirror rattled so much they had to replace the whole assembly. My latest disappointment is that my air compressor just went out! Not a good thing in the middle of summer in AZ.

Didn't get fancy wheels, but washing the covers is lots easier. It's never been on a trip so I have only gotten about 25 mpg average. Got some bad fuel once and had some acceleration problems, but it wasn't the car's fault. Lots of backseat leg room, very comfortable for passengers. Also like the fact that the front passenger airbag will not come on if the front passenger is too light. Despite what people seem to think, the 4-cyl engine is more than adequate around town, and if you put on a set of dedicated snow tires, you won't need AWD (especially with Toyota's traction control). Mileage is in the mid to low 20s in mostly stop and go traffic with the AC going. (One minor gripe is the first 3 fan settings on the AC are fairly weak and while the 4th is decent, it sounds like a jet engine.) Tons of leg room in every seat and the rears recline as well. Plenty of storage room, both in the cubbies and in the "trunk". The rear door can be a bit heavy and hard to open for curb-parking, but the detent holds it well, even on hills.

This is the best vehicle I have ever owned. It is fun to drive and when I want to get up and go she just flies. I have recommended a RAV4 to many people and they too have purchased them and loved them just as much. It has a nice turning radius, great on snow and ice, no lagging on hills. It cleans easily with just a wet rag, I did purchase rubber husky mats to preserve the floors (recommended). I average around 25.5 mpg and have gotten as much as 28 mpg on the highway. It is a bit lower in the winter (21-22 mpg) but I figure it is because of the AWD being used. Definitely not complaining there since I want to be safe.

This vehicle is fun to drive and has loads of power, almost too much for the front wheel drive when accelerating quickly. The ride is very firm and tight. It is roomier than most of the competition and gets the best gas mileage. I have the Sport V6. I average 23 in town and 27 on the highway. I just returned from a long trip driving it totally loaded with 4 people, luggage, etc., and averaged over 26 mpg. Recommend test driving this vehicle after checking out all the rest.

Estimated gas mileage is not correct. It has lots of road noise. Has been dented very easily in parking lot, the metal is very thin. We bought the base model with mag wheels, black luggage rack, 6 airbags, floor mats and grocery cargo net, we paid for the extras. The spare tire cover faded very quickly and was exchanged for a one time only exchange. This cover has faded again and is purple instead of the midnight blue the real car color. I was told by the dealership there was nothing else that could be done. I am not happy, and I will not purchase another Toyota product. We've now owned this vehicle for almost a year, and have found quality and reliability to be excellent. The power from the V6 is without peer in this class, and the fuel economy is the icing on the cake (note: a light foot helps achieve those window sticker EPA numbers). Interior room is excellent both for passengers and cargo. The JBL stereo is decent for a factory upgrade. With AWD the RAV4 is surefooted in winter, and with the side curtains and stability control it's a safe ride. No complaints about seat comfort (ours is the Limited with leather). The ride is firm but comfortable. After almost a year on the road it's still tight and a pleasure to drive. Recommended.

Great car for resale and possible reliabilty. V6 is peppy but hard to handle when flooring it to get up to speed or pull out into traffic, the steering wavers. Very choppy bouncy ride. Has had loss of power when accelerating onto freeway twice. Shifts late at times, just enough to be annoying. Have actually had to give it gas to go down hill. Don't let the fancy controls of the Limited sway you, simple dials are easier to use. Seats are hard. Tow package does not include wiring, you can't do it yourself, because it has to be wired from the dash to the back. Rear suspension can't handle 1200 lb. tent trailer. Snow/rain gets in through the door controls and freezes.

Have driven our base RAV4 for one year and 16000 miles. Drove it 1300 miles to Florida in fall and back again last week. Vehicle was fully loaded inside w/18 cu. ft. cargo carrier on roof. The 4 cyl was amazing in cruising, passing the big truck rigs on the interstate and just flattened the mountains of Virginia and Pennsylvania, very imressive power for a 4 cyl. Handling is crisp and nimble but not harsh. Driving between 70 and 80 fully loaded, we averaged 27.4 MPG. We get 28.7 around Florida . All in all its a decent small car with a huge trunk.

I bought my Rav last year. I have absolutely no complaints about it. It has performed very well, no problems at all. I have the 4cyl 4WD which is very peppy, no problems passing on highways. Handles flawlessly on snow and ice. The only thing I would suggest to anyone considering a base model... don't. Mine is a base and I regret not getting the Sport for about 1200 more. Am not crazy about the base seats, they're light colored and can easily show stains.

Owned this car for one year, so far no issues. Before buying I test drove both Camry and Rav4. Both cars felt same in terms of driving dynamics and both cars share some mechanical parts, but picked Rav4 for its high-seating position. Fuel economy is above average and pretty roomy inside. A little bit sluggish from stop, but this is a 4 cylinder (get 6 cylinder for quick starts). The space in the driver's side needs to be improved especially in left knee area. Also, the tire noise is little bit high during the highway cruising, thus the sound insulation in the cabin needs to be improved.

I previously had a 1997 Toyota Rav4 that was much superior to this piece of junk. The 2006 model is cheap and nasty. The metallic covered pieces in the interior are already scuffed and scratched and have to be touched up or repainted. The AC knob has been pushed through the console and needs to fixed. I have dogs and the inside is already showing scratch marks on the inside door panels. Never had any of these problems with the 1997 Rav4 and wish I could have my old car back. The 2006 is not made for any off roading of hauling of objects, the inside is just too delicate. Another problem is that the 4 cylinder response lags. Want to get rid of this car ASAP.

Couldn't wait to get a RAV4. I did get one in April 2006, trading it tomorrow. Complained to dealer on the 11 mpg around town, 17 on trips. I was told it would get better after 4-5000 miles. Now have 8400 miles - yes after 11 months and getting 17/21 and the small tank, not good. Three times I have had my ignition key not turn and keep trying, one time it took 4/5 minutes (no joke) before it turned, almost ready to call for help. I dislike the swing tailgate and find it very hard to clean. So, no more RAV4, taking a chance on another SUV that is well reviewed and hoping for better mpg.

Love the vehicle, but the 15-23 MPG I get, and that is driving conservatively, is not the 22-28 that the EPA stickered the vehicle as. I'm disappointed because the mileage isn't much better than the Explorer I traded in and I wanted much better mileage.

Otherwise the v6 version of this baby thrills! Handles well, and accelerates like a scalded dog when you need it.

Owned for 8months now and the Rav is everything and more than we expected it to be. We have all the bells and whistles with leather seats. The V6 has such quick acceleration, I can see why they used this car in the "24" series as a getaway car. The mileage on the highway is 29, around town 24. The Key is using cruise set at 65-70 on the highway. The upgraded stereo is like being at a concert. Driving the Rav is a pleasure and the tire on the back gives it a sporty accent. Love this SUV and so does my husband when I don't hide the keys!

We have 12000 miles on our 4cyl Rav and so far its pretty good.$ cyl is powerfull enough and performed well on the interstates from NY to Florida with a full load.MPG could be better,26 on the trip down is only 4 MPG better than my dad got in his new Impala V8 back in 1971,this is NOT progress.Drivers seat is WAY too hard for long distance driving, and the Window control buttn BUMP in the door, stuckin my leg the whole trip.Throttle lags badly when cold and power is needed, this is dangerous, this should be delt with immediately,I thought this problen disapeared with carburators.Goofy power up and down drivers side window, competely unnecessary. All in all the Rav is ok, I miss my GMC Sonoma 4X4.

If you're looking for a mini SUV this auto is it. Get the V6 as the fuel economy is just as good as the smaller 4 cyl. and the V6 gives you the power you need uphill and to pass other vehicles. On the hwy the RAV holds its own and has a nice ride if you're going across town or on a trip. Looks great and runs great. Toyota hit a home run with this vehicle. The added length was a great addition as was the V6. The safety features such as the LSD and downhill features are great as they allow you to go places without needing a 4WD. I have the front wheel drive Sport model and I haven't missed the 4WD feature yet. I get around on ice and slippery conditions just fine. Great auto.

After 11000 miles the drivers seat is still very uncomfortable, too hard and difficult to zero in on adjustment that is tolerable. A couple hundrd miles at the wheel kills my back. The arm rests..what were they thinking? The power window and door lock area is a major protrusion. Auto up and down drivers window...why? not necessary. The vehicle is built well, rides and handles tight with tight turning radius..very nice.Power with 4 cyl.is good enough,my wife and i drove it from NY to Florida and it had pleanty of power to handle the interstates and got 27 mpg fully loaded with a milage robbing clam shell cargo carrier on the roof. Two years down the road, trade it in for vehicle with more comfort.

High Cool Factor.RAV4 can keep up with cars costing $20/30K more. Blows by BMWs. Requires two hands on the wheel, it will get away from you if you stomp on it, almost feels like the engine will rip out Hauled a trailer to college for kid, couldn’t even tell it was there. RAV is jerky when shifting on its own, hills and passing, not always a smooth ride. True gas mileage is 18-20 in the city, 22-24 on highway. No one is getting 30MPG on the V6. After 7 months, squeaks are apparent as is engine noise Engine light comes on for oil change, dealer instructed me on how to reset myself. RAV is really good for 2+2kids, no more. RAV has blind spots. Max 4 hours driving trips/too uncomfortable

Excellent acceleration & good handling. (V6, AWD, w/ sport pkg.) Lots of room, drives very nice. Super nice ride. In fact, maybe too nice. Could use a little tighter suspension. Took on a 10K mile trip and other than sagging, pulling and poor fuel economy (see below) had a very nice trip. Front seats are okay to drive in, but forget about sleeping in them. On long trips we frequently stop at rest stops to get a little sleep and these seats are horrible trying to sleep in them. Don't even think about it. Couldn't sleep in the back, too much stuff. :) Overall a very good vehicle that we use everyday to it's fullest.

After 2700 miles of driving I have had 3 events of all the idiot lights coming on plus two complete breakdowns. Dealer analyzed (Oh for the days of do it yourself cars) and replaced a fuse. Our trip from Tennessee to Florida was a disaster. All idiot lights came on plus the battery light. Power steering died and car had to be towed to dealer who replaced battery. After 250 more miles, same thing happened and had to get towed to dealer again. This dealer was good and found alternator was defective. New type with clutch for trailer package upgrade. No one has the new alternator in stock so it has to come from Cal. I love the car, but won't tolerate any more breakdowns

I just traded my 2002 RAV4 in for a 2006 a couple months ago, and all of the things that I had issues with (all were very minor) they addressed. I wished that it had a little more power, seats fold flat, more size (now it's almost as big as a Highlander). I put 148,000 flawless miles on my last RAV4, and I plan do the same on this one. I just wish they would come out with a hybrid. That would be the only reason that I would trade this one in before 150,000 miles. Great hob Toyota.

Clocked around 5000 miles in 3 months, including many 200 mile trips. Let me directly go to drawbacks.... 1.) No auto headlights/door locks. 2.) Window controls invisible in dark and look cheap. 3.) Cupholders are atrocious. 4.) Expensive and no negotiations. 5.) Transmission, hesitant initially, then kicks in. 6.) Temp display could be better. 7.) Cruise control initially confusing. 8.) Maybe it is unique to me, but the gas level indicator is very misleading. The last quarter is over in less than 30 miles. 9.) The gas low indicator should blink or something. 10.) Of course, mileage is around 19/20 only.. But then I drive at around 80-85 in highway. 11.)Rear door should open up. 12.) Very noisy ride with moonroof open

I purchased a 2006 Rav 4 6 months ago. When looking around I thought that this since it’s new redesign it was the best for the dollar. I was wrong. At first we loved it until a smell got really bad and we saw water in it. Due to the redesign I know that there is a design flaw in the air vent (Admitted to my husband and I by Toyota)It allows rain water to get in and collect in the floor of the front passenger side. We have had it in multiple times to a local dealership and each time they patch it which the patch never works. We are going to try again and fix it again this week. I am trying to tell of my experience so others will look out for mold, smell, and puddles on their carpet

This is my first Toyota. I selected the RAV4 based on Toyota's reputation for reliability. I love the exterior design of the RAV4, it looks sharp with the optional 17" alloy wheels and crome stepbar. The interior is roomy and comfortable. I highly recommend against purchasing the 4cyl because of the extremely sluggish acceleration. I rated the Performance a "4" and Fun To Drive a "6" because of the acceleration (or lack thereof). I would love my little RAV4 if I weren't so afraid of it ending up a little pile of scrap metal on the interstate.

I've added mud- guards,side-guard and sun-roof visor to give it a distinct look. The dark windows on a silver body of the Rav4 is worth a second look. The V4 engine is peppy, responsive. I spent 6 months researching and looking for a 4wd, fuel efficient vehicle. I previously drove a Subaru Outback, which did well in snow, but was too small. When I finally purchased my RAV4, I loved it. As the days and weeks went by, I love it more! It's comfortable, quiet, sporty and just plain fun to drive. I love how it looks. I've stuffed it full of antiques with roon to spare. On the down side, I agree with another reviewer that the cup holders don't hold any cup I own (no room for handles). I miss my heated mirrors and seats. And I wish I had fog lights. All that being said, have I mentioned I love my Rav4?

I have 15,000 km on this vehicle and it is used for open road travel (little commuting) and some gravel roads. Overall, this is an excellent performing vehicle. The 5-speed auto is seamless and shifts when it should. The V6 really smokes when you need it. I don't need a fast vehicle, but the power is a safety advantage when passing on congested 2-lane highways. Ample room in the interior and the fold-down rear seats are essential for persons carrying camping gear, sports equipment (diving), or toting boxes from place-to- place. Sports model seems v. secure, even when buffeted by strong cross winds on a hwy. It is roomier than a Honda CRV, Subaru and Jeep Liberty. Test drive one!

It's so much fun to drive. I have never owned a suv b4, now I will never go back to a midsize. I owned a toyota before in the 1980's went to Honda, now I'm back home. It's roomy, sleek in style, and drives like a car. Never was interested in the older models. Now I'm very impressed.

We bought it to explore the US, Canada and South America. It has ample room for luggage. Its all plastic interior is well designed and built. The V6 is powerfull yet economical. The climat control works well yet the display can not be read in bright day light. As the RAV4 is defined as a truck, we expected it would have strong bumpers. When backing up into a light pole at 2 miles per hour we found out it has no bumper, just a cover. The damage was $2300, it damaged the rear door! The 4 wheel drive is great and fully automatic. The seats are firm but comfortable for long trips. Road noise is high on rough roads. Options are very expensive.

No complaints here. I purchased as my first car that I am paying for. Dealership was a pleasure to work with. Got it for 21K out the door. Love the 6disc in dash and the control that this car has. It drives like a sedan but is an SUV. Coming from a small car with power nothing, I love all the standard features on this car. Fun and easy to drive, great gas mileage for an SUV, and is big enough to fit me and my friends comfortably.

The more I drive this car,the more I enjoy driving it.It's fun. However, for a top of the line model, many of its functions are on the crude side.ex.the climate control system seems to go full blast to regulate the temp. Also, paying almost 500.00 dollars to install a wiring harness for a trailer hitch is outrageous.

We were looking for a new SUV that met all my wifes business needs and met our traveling needs also. This one does it all. My wife is an interior designer and is on the road a lot carrying various samples and materials. She just loves that she can lay down the rear seats from the rear with one hand. One of our other cars is a Porsche and this RAV4 handles nearly as well. I love the power and the electric steering works great too. We just took two trips across west Texas and got 28 miles per gallon with a tail wind. By the way, we were crusing at 85 mph with a full load and the A/C on.

The car's really nice. Mileage is impressive on 4 cylinder. Who needs more power? Not here in FL for sure! Some people think the motor is noisy. I disagree. It's not THE sport SUV, but still nice. very easy to drive, brakes well on wet. Stability is OK for a SUV, but the rear wheels blocks a little in hard braking. Most people will not notice, though. No big problem, it's a safe car. Just use it like a SUV and not like a Porsche, you will be OK.

I just got my new RAV4 Limited 4WD V6 after wating a long 8 weeks. I have had so much fun driving this vehicle. It accelerates so smoothly and handles like the 2003 Corolla S we just traded in for it. The V6 is perfect for the driver that likes get up and go. It corners great and the steering is tight so you feel like you have control while you drive. It has a GREAT turning radius (I am used to driving a truck that didn't). I have only driven it 219 miles so far. The first tank of gas I got 19 miles per gallon. I figured it'd be much worse on the first tank, especially because I do "jack rabbit" starts. I haven't let my husband drive it yet! :-)

I just bought a 2006 RAV4. While I have not had it that long, I am very happy with this vehicle.I was surprised at the great deal I received. I also looked at many, many other small SUVs, but not one could beat the price and value of the RAV4, even with the the massive rebates offered by the other companies. I couldn't find any that had better gas mileage. Also, the resale/trade-in value is better than most other vehicles. If I were to say anything negative it would be that the back seat does not look like it could fit three comfortably. The middle seatback actually folds down to become an armrest and cupholder. I sat there, and it doesn't feel too uncomfortable. The bench seat itself has a ton of room and reclines.

This is truly a great small SUV. Since the 2006 RAV4 is now larger, it actually looks like a mid-sized SUV now. Gas mileage is great. It looks great. The V6 is very quick, and can easily pass by other vehicles on the road. In fact, it is faster than many vehicles out there today, including many sports sedans. It can reach 60 mph in 6.7 seconds, faster than any SUV out there. It is very roomy. Controls are nicely laid out. My RAV4 Limited came with factory installed heated leather bucket seats, which are very comfortable. If you're looking for a nice SUV, make sure you check out the RAV4!

I wish the passenger seat folded flat to hold an 8 ft ladder. Radio controls on the steering wheel should be standard.

After all of the great reviews on here and on Consumer Reports for Toyota, I was really excited to buy the new RAV4 Limited, my first foreign car. I'm not sure I'd do it again if I knew a few things in advance - I'm 6'1" tall and I need 1 or 2 more inches of driver side leg room, headlights don't turn on automatically and the electric outlet only works when car is on. Also, the acceleration is excellent, but the transmission doesn't seem to know how to accommodate it from a stop; my tires squeal too easily... and I'm not a stranger to good acceleration.

There's a problem in acceleration delay/throttle lag that Toyota should be aware of by now. Since taking delivery JAN06, we've experienced continual erratic acceleration problems. These are significant delays - from 3-6 seconds - in delivering forward speed from either rolling starts or dead stops and is most evident when turning corners or going up hills. The delay is followed by a sudden delivery of power, then the car lurches forward with no change in pressure on the accelerator. When attempting to pass at highway speeds, after the delay it goes into passing gear and immediately drops back out. All conditions when this happens can be dangerous. I have reported to NHTSA. Dealer is no help.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our RAV4. We have been accustomed to much larger and more pretentious cars (Except for a VW Golf Turbo) and have been very happy with this fun and utilitarian vehicle. We are a little disappointed with the fuel economy, averaging 17 in town and 20 on the road. Not as good as our Volvo S80. However, the Rav4 is fun to drive, holds a lot of stuff and at this point is very solidly built.

We bought it for brand reliability, utility and looks. We use to take 10-15 hrs drive roadtrips. Mileage is 16-22 city and 26-30 freeway. It completely depends on how you drive it. If you tend to rev over 2400 rpm when accelerating and over 2000 rpm normal driving you will get low mpg, otherwise you can get the 22/30 mpg. We love it as it is fun to drive at decent mileage and has plenty of space for how it looks from outside. The antenna does not bother you too much. We found the seat cushion ergonomics not so pleasant after 10 hr driving. Seat cushion is too hard and not long enough. A long drive can be uncomfortable.

I have had the car for 6 weeks/1300mi now and am very pleased. The interior is very comfortable and it drives great. The gas mileage is a little lower than I had hoped. So far I have averaged 25-26mpg, 80percent hwy/20percent city. It's been a hot summer so I am hoping it will get better when I can turn the a/c off. Speaking of a/c, it has had trouble keeping up a couple of times when it's 103 degrees out. I live in Texas. Works great most of the time though. I would say the RAV4 definitely looks and feels more expensive than it is. I've seen several people checking it out on the road.

I had trouble with availablity of LTD V6, especially in Everglade Metallic, and so probably paid more than I should have BUT I love this car! I have no regrets having opted for the V6. It has so much pep and, as a result, is a lot of fun to drive. As for the reduced gas mileage, well, think again. I've taken two highway trips so far and both times got 31 mpg. On local mountain roads I'm averaging just over 24 mpg. Needless to say, I'm very pleased. I've not been back to actual stop and go traffic yet, so cannot comment on actual city driving. In sum, this is a great little (not so little anymore) car. I highly recommend it. I'm having a bit of a problem getting the rear seats to go down using the one- touch lever. I'm planning to check it out at dealer with first oil change

While the sticker price is a little higher than the competition, the Rav4 has such good resale that we decided it was the best, and the least expensive option with a bigger engine. Ours has a black interior, which gets to looking a little dirtier than a tan or gray, but when it's clean it certainly does look sharp. As to the power, it really is fun and amazing.

After a long hard decision making, I picked the RAV4 believing that I'll get good gas mileage as advertised and overall good quality, hey its a toyota. After a month of using it mostly on highways the most I got was 19 mpg. The suspension is very disappointing, very stiff, the clock placement, the kick you feel as you shift from reverse to drive, engine noise, tire noise, idle noise, the small knobs for the stereo are all negative factors. I'll just finish the lease and say bye-bye.

Highly recommend!

I love my RAV4! I have had great experience with Toyota cars and was watching the RAV4 for a few years, but was disappointed in the rear seat and cargo space - until the 2006 model! The back seat space is awesome, and the seats even recline. The cargo space with the seats up is excellent, and with the seats down, it's hard to believe it's a "small" SUV. The audio system is excellent, ABS is standard, as is traction control, and the hamdling is responsive and nimble. I even went on a trip in March and got 34 mpg! Great car!

This car rides just as well as the family's Benz sedan or Infiniti suv. It's been great in stop and go, as well as on the highway. The cloth seats feel both durable and comfy. Real world fuel economy has been more along the lines of 22.5/25 vs. 23/28 advertised, par for the course if not better. The 4cyl can chase down your normal traffic without even punching it. This car deserves a look for cargo space alone, which even includes an extra few cubic feet buried beneath the mats. Take a seat in the back and you'll immediately notice how far away the front seats really are. Passengers have plenty of leg room and can even recline if need be. It gets a lot of looks for its exterior too.

We have three Toyota vehicles and just feel safe, and the reliability is the best. We would suggest all seniors try RAV4, you will be amazed at reliability, look and comfort. Thanks Toyota!

The car is great looking, solid and is fun to drive. It has lots of storage and seems to have been designed with the drivers comfort and convenience in mind. MPG is a little disappointing as is vibration at idle when the air conditioning is on. The road noise is noticeable but not too annoying. The suspension is stiff and you feel the road but that may be part of the fun.

This is the best vehicle I've owned yet. Power is awesome, very comfortable, nice 22 MPG average fuel economy, Leather seats are comfortable. The cargo area is huge for a small SUV. I can fit a full size mountain bike in it in about 10 seconds. After 3,000 miles, I'm averaging about 22 MPG, great for 269 HP and regular fuel. No complaints so far.

For a 19 year old I needed a smaller suv to hold both of my dogs. Compared to any other smaller suv this toyota RAV4 had the most room, great gas mileage, and was the most reliable. I got the RAV4 Sport 4x4 V6 I have only had the car for a few days and I love it. It had a lot of get up and go, I feel safe in it, the sunroof is great, and the upgraded sound system is very very nice. I would recommend this car to everyone.

We couldn't be more satisfied. After 3500 miles and three months of mixed suburban driving The RAV4 has exceeded our expectations. After a lifetime of 4 cylinder autos the V6 is awsome. And it is rated by the Feds as a "green" car, too. Mileage has averaged 25 mpg.

Got my Rav one month ago. First thing is that it's great on hills and excellent off start. Holds plenty of gear with great cargo room and system. Seats are great but had leather put in aftermarket (not an option on sport) I miss my satellite radio so awaiting for dash fit kit, but sound of jbl speakers are great. Waiting to see how it rides in snow. Fit and finish of parts are clean, tight and look great. Great on long highway trips and fuel economy has been 26 mpg. Wish it had full time 4wd ability for heavy rain and snow. Toyota needs to offer satellite as option or the connection for it. Only serious complaint is that you can't read radio and clock display in daytime or with sunglasses on.

I went from a '92 Camry XLS (4-cyl) to 2006 Rav4 4x4 Base 4-cyl. Needed cargo room to haul band equipment. Rides very smooth and quiet, not quite as smooth as the Camry but still very good for a small SUV. 24 mpg city, 29.5 hiway, both with AC on max. I think Toyota makes a very good 4 cyl engine.

We had 2003 Honda Cr-V. Our new RAV-4 is far superior. Much better performance, handling and much less road noise. The 3.5L 6cyl engine is overkill but we love it! If you got the extra $$ definitely go for along with 4WD. We plan on doing a lot of traveling so extra power and handling are super important to us. Toyota really rang the bell with this model.

Nice idea, but needs a little refinement. 20 city/22 highway mileage with conservative driving. Better than the current CR-V (being replaced this fall), but seems as if it were rushed into production. Rear door hinged on the wrong side (designed for right-hand drive-Japan). Sunroof cannot be opened all the way without introducing a load booming noise (per the owner's manual-not in the sales literature). This is a new model that does not have bluetooth capability. Overall, not bad, but much happier with my 4Runner (features and execution).

The reason I've given this vehicle such a low rating is it has left me in an unsafe situation more than once. Twice when I was trying to pull into another lane of traffic the automatic transmission did not downshift, but instead stayed in a higher gear and left me in a scary position with oncoming traffic. This is why I gave it such a low rating in the perfomance, fun to drive, build quality and reliability areas. During the first couple thousand miles the brakes would fade even during the first hard braking. They are better now, but it seems the me larger/better brakes are called for on the vehicle. Gas mileage could be better, but it seems to be improving with mileage.

I've read reviews on the fuel economy, but happy to say so far consistently 23.5 mpg in local driving. But don't see a huge increase in mostly highway. Perhaps in 25-26 range, but not 29. Also, have complaint now with Toyota on occasional severe hesitation when accelerating from stop or nearly stopped situation. They mentioned it could be new Electronic Throttle Control whatever that is. Mostly positive other than that. Fun to drive with size, comfort, feel, ride etc. Hate tire on back, but oh well. New 2007 CRV losing it's tire on door, which should have been a must for Toyota. Jury still out though overall if i made the right choice. First Toyota, so hoping it lives up to hype.

Picked up a 3.5l Sport AWD Rav4 recently and couldn't be more impressed. This thing is an absolute missile in a straight line and handles very very well with minimal body roll. It's quiet inside and out (let's not forget this is the 3.5l drive train from the Lexus RX 350 so it's no surprise really). It's roomy comfortable and I have really no complaints about this vehicle to speak of. Very solid high quality Not-so-little-anymore SUV. I love it.

This is a great vehicle! Handles like a car and is very responsive; tight turning radius makes it easy to get into parking garage from the back alley. V6 is fun to drive - I almost regret the short commute. Great mileage. Sleek look, not clunky or boring like other SUVs. Lots of space for passengers in back seat, with huge storage space. Couldn't be happier with my choice and I still admire it everytime I see it! Love the MP3 capability and bottle holders in the doors. Also love adjustable backseat headrests that can be minimized to avoid blocking rear view - unlike some cars, including other Toyotas, in which they block a large portion of the view!

My first Toyota and first SUV. Wasn't sure if a 4 cyl would be enough - it is, has plenty of pep, handles like a car, gets great gas mileage, rides smoothly, corners well, easy to park & my very tall son can actually fit in the front seat. Love the new larger size and exterior look. The interior is well designed, everything in reach, gauges easy to read. Running lights a great idea. Cargo area exceptional for the size.

I've had my RAV4 now for 3 months. Overall getting 23.5 MPG consistent around my area, with little highway. Haven't had a trip yet, but when mostly highway, some local, only getting 25 MPG, so a dissapointment. Understand V6 doing as well or better so i should have opted for it.Ordered body side molding, not sure why cars dropping this. Painted same color and actually improves appearance. Getting some hesitation when accelerating and twice felt like system wasn't getting fuel or stuck in a gear. Toyota says hesitation normal, but in 2 instances i'd say problem. Just giving my personal experiences so far.

I've had my Limited 2WD Rav for about 8 wks. Traded in Nissan Quest & am more than thrilled w/car. Great mileage (only fill up every 12 days or so), holds a ton of stuff w/seats down. Just moved daughter into 2nd apt. It holds a boatload of stuff! Discovered another site that mentioned cupholder "flaps." I also hated them because all cans, bottles flopped around in them. By pulling up on the "flap," the can or bottle becomes tight & no longer falls over when turning. Why this info wasn't in owner's manual, I don't know!

I have put 1000 miles on this RAV4 Sport 6. It goes very fast, and has many carelike qualities. A good thing. I cannot understand why Toyota puts that stupid radio antenna, waggling on the right side; especially in light of its excellent build quality. I have the JBL upgrade. So, it is incongruous to see a 1990's whip antenna! It comes with light truck tires. Mine with Yokahama Geolanders. That is nuts. One orders a sport 4 X 2. I will NEVER go off road. The logic is vacuous. Hence, I changed to the new, quiet, stickier MXV 4 S8 from Michelin. What a joy!. Now at 70, it does not sound or feel like a tundra. I have been to LA and back to LV. Excellent. The V6 for trips. The I4 for town.

Bought this car for a teen daughter because of it's safety. She needed a car that could haul her equestrian gear (saddles etc.) which it does with ease. She loves to drive it because it is so fun plus it has great looks. Everyone wants to know what it is. There are no other cars like it in our small town. We also took it on a trip yesterday through a very curvy canyon and it handled great. Super gas mileage. To tell you the truth, I like it every bit as much as my Lexus sedan. Plus, the added side impact airbags will give me alot less to worry about when my daughter leaves for college!

It's a pleasure to drive, non-fatiguing. It's get up and go on the highway is great and city driving is very easy. Parking is easy - both parallel and horizontal. In one month I have put on 2000 miles. The cabin is very comfortable as is the ride. I ask myself why I waited so long to buy one. The mileage is way above what it was rated to be - 35 mpg on the open road. Very pleased and would recommend it to anyone.

I picked it up just a week ago, and I love it. Owned a ’99 RAV4, and it was a great car. We downsized from my gas-guzzling V8 Explorer, but the V6 on the RAV is much more responsive. We got the side-air bags and towing package, with the 4WD. Note: the “towing package” consists of a larger radiator and enhanced electrical system – the trailer hitch setup is NOT included. Skip the cramped 3rd row seats (our salesman discouraged getting them) – frees up storage space.

My first SUV was narrowed down to Infiniti FX35, Nissan Murano and Subaru Tribeca. Although the other 3 were out of my league pricewise was settling down to going with Pontiac Torrent, but with poor GM reliabilty on 3.4 engine and huge Red flag on it now built in China and that companies lack of customer support was simply overwhelmed when I drove the new RAV4. A very pleasant surprise and although more expensive than in 2005, well worth the extra bucks. Build quality is exceptional as well as ride and a peppy 3.5 Ltr V6 that has ooomph. I felt however that options were very limited and to get a sunroof had to go with Limited, oh well can't have everything.

With 269HP under the hood, it's got a lot of pickup, it handles great, and it's a very smooth ride. I've gotten great gas mileage, better than I had expected. The climate control display and radio displays are awful. You can barely see them in regular light but in sunlight they are impossible. It would have been so simple for Toyota to use the same type of display for these items as the odometer. The rear window is fixed and the rear door is heavy and opens to the side. Mileage is terrible.

This is such a great vehicle! I was tempted to get the Limited model, but realized the Base model had everything I needed. (Everyone who has seen it can't believe it's the Base model.) It handles like a car and gets great gas mileage. Although it only has a 4- cylinder engine, it has great pick-up. I love all of the little touches, like the quick release pulls in the cargo area that allow you to lower the rear seats without going around to the back doors. This car is truly a wonderful value.

I also own a 2006 BMW 325i, and I have to say that the new RAV4 V-6 is every bit as much fun to drive! The 269 hp engine delivers phenomenal torque, extending a challenge to my 325i for a race! Thumping the gas pedal is exhilarating and I can't recommend doing so highly enough! I leased this vehicle but will likely buy it at the end of the lease and just get leather seats installed. It'll be like a new vehicle and will probably only have about 30,000 miles by that time. And since it's a Toyota, I figure I'll get another 270,000 miles out of it! If you haven't driven the V-6 yet, get out there and run one! You'll love it!

I was a solid believer in the Subaru Outback. My husband talked me into trading my Outback in for the new RAV4. I have to say the RAV4 won me over. The side curtain airbags are a definite bonus. Steering and turning are much better than the Outback. And I have to say it gets better gas mileage than my old car. I have the 4 cyl., in my opinion the V6 is too much power for the ride. And the gas mileage is much better with 4 cyl.

This is probably the fastest vehicle I have ever owned. I don't feel like I gave up all that much space as the rav is well packaged. Handling is very good. When winter comes I will find out about the 4wd system. The only drawback I have found is road noise. It's not bad but noticeable. More insulation would have been better.

This SUV was worth the wait! We have 1000 miles on it so far and it's everything we expected and more relative to ride, comfort, build quality, cornering and performance. The roll over test which was not previously available came out very positive. Our Limited is fully loaded and the options were well worth it! It rides very smooth, has great acceleration and is noise free in the cabin. For styling, value and performance there is no competitor on the market today. You must drive this SUV!

My first toyota: Rav4. Overall, it's solid, and I think I am glad I purchased it. 4cyl engine is powerful, but NOISY and harsh. Not refined or quiet as Toyota's reputation. Stereo is just average. Fuel economy is not good. I'm getting 23MPG. If I had to do it over again, I would consider other more fuel efficient cars.

Just purchased a Rav4 with a V6. Given the size of the vehicle I had lowered expectations on comfort/ergonomics and general features. Pros to date - * It's quick. The V6 does indeed pack a punch. * Much roomier inside that it's smallish outside might suggest. Cons to date - * Steering wheel is small and only telescopes a couple inches. When I move the seat to a comfortable position I feel like I am leaning forward to reach for the wheel. * Seats are small, compared to the larger SUVs. A sore posterior on longer trips has been the result as the body weight is less distributed.

Nice little SUV, but...

I've had my RAV4 for about a month and really enjoy it. Its fun to drive and the 269hp V6 is really peppy with great acceleration when necessary, like when entering the turnpike. I chose this car because I think Toyota makes a great product (this is my 5th Toyota in 19 years), and reliability is always at the top of my list when choosing a car, as I drive a lot. The engine is louder that in my Camry, although not to the point that it's really annoying. I love the dual glove boxes and the below floor storage area. Steering is tight, as I prefer it, and the JBL audio system is great. The brakes are very responsive but need more foot pressure than I had expected. Overall, it's a nice, small SUV.

We bought the 4X4, V6 in Barcelona Red. We wanted the I4 but the salesman persuaded us to go big. Can't say I'm sorry except for the fact that the gas mileage is terrible. I am impressed with the fit and finish and anticipate years of Toyota reliability. Lots of cargo room so we may be able to ditch the roof rack/box. We love the dual climate control and the CD/MP3 player.

I researched a great deal to find a decent SUV that was reliable, appealing, and attained decent gas mileage. Boy was I thrilled to find the V6 Rav 4. Not only is it a much bigger vehicle than previous models, the performance of the V6 is phenomenal! I average 27 mpg on the interstate driving to work... incredible! The ride quality is wonderful and the increased amount of interior space makes trips so comfortable. I'm so happy with my Rav4 V6 and I haven't looked back. Do the research yourself, you won't be sorry... besides... it's a Toyota.

The RAV4 V6 Sport has great pick up and is fun to drive. My husband and the men in his family are all over 6 feet tall. They can ride comfortably in the RAV4. The V6 has way more power than I really needed, but is useful for towing and heavy loads. The gas mileage is good. I drive on the highway and city streets a lot and get about 24-25 miles per gallon. I got more for my money horsepower and safety feature wise than I would have with the other competing brands. Plus Toyotas have a reputation for reliability.

The latest (3rd generation) RAV4 has it all: Plenty of room for driver, passengers, and cargo; V6 power to weight ratio worthy of a sports car; surprisingly fuel efficient for a 3.5l V6; Toyota quality and reliability. I've driven my new RAV4 daily since the end of April and it continues to impress me. Don't bother with the optional 3rd row seat because the 2nd row seats needs to be pushed all the way forward to accomodate 2 adults in the 3rd row for short trips.

After previously owning/driving American-made cars, I can say that after driving the RAV-4, I may not go back. Although I've only had the RAV for a few months, it feels like I've been driving it forever. The ride is great, the new V6 gives it tons of power, and the larger size makes it a good fit for my family. Compared to the comparable SUVs I test drove (Ford Escape, Chevy Equinox), the RAV-4 blows away those competitors in my mind. Whether on the highway or hilly 2-lane mountain roads, I've always felt in control behind the wheel. Thus far, I haven't found a driving task that the RAV-4 couldn't handle.

Had a very hard time getting a loaded 4x4 Limited V6. Only have it a few weeks but so far it was worth the wait. There is no other vehicle in its class that compares. The fit and finish, ride, look and everything about the car is great. The dealer experience was horrible. The car has electric steering, a great turning radius and most of the bells and whistles one could want. I originally was against having the spare mounted on the tailgate (which opens like a door instead of like a hatchback) but it isn't heavy opening the door and it affords internal storage space. Haven't had an opportunity to verify the MPG but it seems good so far. Love the big 6 but settled on color due to availability.

My husband and I traded in our second mid-sized SUV for the Rav4 and are thrilled with the car. The 4 cylinder is peppy and the car looks and feels like a luxury automobile. The inside rear compartment is smartly layed out and easy to adjust with the touch of a button. The car was originally for my husband, but I like it so much that I am trading in my treasured convertible so that I can drive this gem. We tested all of the competition, but as far as value, looks and being fun to drive, none even came close. It is our first Toyota, but it won't be our last!

This is the best compact SUV on the market; I have read a couple of reviews that complain about the ride and noise. You want a car get a car, you want a great SUV get a RAV4. Apples to apples this is the best all round SUV on the market, and YES it does ride rougher than a Camry, that’s why I like it. Lots of options, great power, excellent gas mileage, wish it came in a manual transmission. Some of the plastics inside can scar a little easily. Look at the others and you come back, they may be a little cheaper however, with Toyota's resale this car will cost you much less.

The powered driver's seat is outstanding- it's so comfortable. It rides like an Avalon. Sound system is excellent. It's so spacious and classy that's it's like driving a much more expensive vehicle. For a 6'2" 250 pound male this vehicle amazes me. This is a gift for my wife but the more I ride and drive the RAV4 the more I like it. I can actually get in and adjust the very comfortable seats (front or rear) and have plenty of room to drive or ride quite comfortably. This little buggy is a gas to drive and easy to park - you can turn around on a 2 lane street with one turn. The 17" wheels and tires provide a stable ride and the 4 speed automatic shifts smooth as silk. Third row seating would be a criminal option for this car because the rear compartment configuration is excellent and well designed. Getting in & out was the biggest plus for my wife and me - absolutely the perfect height.

Excellent car in lieu of buying a comparable 4 door sedan. Shorter but roomier than Camry (thus easier to park). More utility (available 4 wheel drive) and younger persona than a Camry but close in price. Fills niche for people who want a reliable 5 passenger, fun to drive car with extra cargo room. No reason to get a 4 door sedan when a RAV4 is an option.

I have the ash interior, silver exterior. It looks very nice with the brushed aluminum trim inside by the radio and on the door panels. I am going to be getting the bug guard, chrome exhaust tip, and running boards to complete the look. I also may order a Limited Grille to dress it up. The Limited has a different grille than the Base and Sport. It's just an awesome SUV and I love to drive it any chance that I get.

This is a great small SUV. My MPG has varied from 24 to 29. It is fun to drive and just the right size. The only minor issue I have is that the I notice the A/C putting a minor drag on the engine when I am doing around 30 mph. Is is slight but I am going to ask about it when I go in for an oil change. I've also notice that the slightest hill causes a downshift when I have the cruise control on. Other than that, this is a great car.

One thing that really impressed me the most was its acceleration. It accelerates faster than my previous BMW 325i automatic and has a very smooth engine. Critics were right about overdoing it with V6 engine in such a small SUV, but love it! Ride is smooth, not jarring like my other Pathfinder and corners well. Easy to park with tight turning radius and have ample space in the cargo and backseat; love the fact that you can recline and slide the rear seat to create more room and cargo space. One thing i should have gotten is the upgraded JBL sound system; stock system is very adequate at the most where you gotta crank up the volume real high to hear anything soft sound.

This is my 2nd RAV4 and I absolutely love it!! I've had it for 2 wks now. I had my first one for 6 yrs with no problems. This new RAV4 gives me what I didn't have in the 1st...it's a much quieter ride, it's bigger without being too big for manuverability, and it has more muscle in its 4cyl engine while still being more fuel efficient than some other SUVs. The durability and reliability I have had with my 1st RAV4 made the decision to buy another very easy, along with it having such a great, new "grown-up" look. It definitely has everything I loved about my 1st RAV4, and fixed most of the little things I felt needed improvement.

The size is just right-not too big but with enough legroom. The only thing I don't like about it is the sound system. The sound tend to be boxy even on FM stations.

I traded in a gas guzzler for a car with good gas mileage and an excellent reputation. I bought the base 2WD and I am not sorry. It did fine in the limited snow this year in NJ, and it has really great pickup (almost as good as the aforementioned V6 4WD gas guzzler!). I like that is has a lot of nice detail on the interior, compared to some other econo-boxes which are plain and drab in the base model (ex. Ford Escape and the Honda CRV). Gas mileage is pretty good, considering I do almost all city driving (I get about 22mpg). Best part is that it's a Toyota and I think I will be able to drive it for the next 300,000 miles without too much worry!

Must be good, my 3rd one.

Love the style of the Sport. The firmer ride is hardly noticeable. Just turned 5000 miles and could not be happier. Toyota service has been one of the main reasons that I keep going back. Since this is my 3rd Rav, there are some features that I miss. Those grocery hooks are gone. Glad they moved the battery to a more accessible location. Also miss the overdrive button on the shifter. Don't like the 5000 mile oil change indicator reminder. Why did they change the emission control warranty from 80000 to 70000 miles? Seems like it must have cost them too much so they passed it on to the consumer. All in all, the Rav is really great.

After trading in My Chevy Tahoe I thought I would miss the luxury of a big car. The new RAV4 is luxury, ability, agility and so much more. The car rides smooth, steering is tight and it commands power when needed. I am blown away by its sheer acceleration power. Lots of room to make up for its smaller size.

R little secret.

Wow! Everytime I drive this thing I can't help but get this big grin on my face. I wanted four doors and more cargo space than just a trunk could provide. I looked at quite a few cars and other small SUV's but kept coming back to the Toyota. I drove the 4 cylinder Base and Limited and found them quite adequate as I was looking for something with good mileage. Then I drove a 6 Cyl. Sport. The shopping was over! Those of you who have one know the truth. This is a sports car disguised as an SUV! The power is exceptional and never ceases to impress and the handling better than most cars. I can't imagine a better compromise between practicality and fun. RAV4 Sport drivers tend to smile a lot.

I just traded-in my 2001 Rav4 for a new 2006. After test driving it I couldn't believe that a four cylinder would have that much power and performance. I also own a Highlander V6, the performance on the Rav4 is excellent in comparison. Also the large cargo area is almost as big as the Highlander, for the price difference the Rav4 is a steal. I have owned Toyotas over the past 20 years from 4 Runners to Avalons and the Rav4 really competes.

Love my 06 Rav4 LTD. Made a 10 time Camry buyer never want to drive a car again. Comfortable, smooth, roomy, great in snow and 4wd can't be beat. Quiet and reliable as all Toyotas are. Room for storage is great. Will never switch to anything but a Toyota SUV. Thought Camry was the greatest car in the world but the RAV4 put its baby sister to shame. Only complaint I have. What can I say besides I absolutely love this suv. Previously I owned a honda crv (I was glad to see it go). There is so much more space in the cabin and a lot more power under the hood. I also take pride in knowing that I could race a bmw x3 and leave it in the dust (hands down). It only takes about $25-30 to fill up (for now) but I find myself stopping for gas more often than I did with my old crv. I also like the options that were included on my vehicle --- I have the side curtain airbags, uphill and downhill assist control, the in dash 6 disc player with the subwoofer, and the tourneau cover and net. I really like driving on the freeway because the passing/merging power is second to none.

I bought the 2006 Toyota Rav 4 Sport and I love it. This is my first SUV. The Rav is spacious and very agile. It has a BMW X3 look to it and I get alot of compliments on it. The ride is smooth and off road it handles like a charm. The 2.4 liter is pretty good on gas on my stop and go commute to work.

Vehicle handles well and feels solid. Cabin is well designed (other than cup holders and LED clock). Plenty of storage space and room for rear seat passengers. Fuel consumption beats all competition and with the V6, this vehicle has more power and better acceleration than many other vehicles on the road.

I test drove crv, hyndai both tuscon and santa fe, liberty, escape. The Rav4 outperformed them all. The v6 is the fastest with its 269 horsepower, idles smooth. Good gas mileage for a v6. Some of the other makes had better features but the perfomance and safety of this car and reliability of toyota is what sold me. The outside styling is pretty cool, kind of a cross between the matrix and lexus. Just a fun car to drive. Would buy this car again.

Initially, the new rear window pillar area seemed a bit "mod". After looking at the competition, we quickly came back to buy the new RAV4 because it simply has the very best to offer. RAV4 has an attractive interior design, a pleasant and logical dashboard, good seating and a large well planned cargo area. We just LOVE everything about this RAV4. The impressive road handling, fuel milage, great visability and of course, Toyota quality, make this vehicle the one to beat. RAV4 gave us the best of both worlds - a pleasant carlike interior AND an undercarriage and exterior body that is a rugged 4WD truck, when needed. We just turned 3500 miles and so far, this is our very best vehicle yet.

This is my first SUV and I'm very happy with it. The V6 has more power than you will need, but I thought the 4 cylinder was underpowered. Very smooth transmission. There is plenty of room in the back and I like the levers that allow you to drop the rear seats from the cargo area. Doesn't feel "big" while driving and is very easy to park. Gas mileage with a V6 of this power is exceptional! Well worth the money.

Finally picked up my new base 2006 RAV4, 4x4 with the 4 cylinder engine. Very happy with the gorgeous modern interior, nice exterior lines. The 4 cylinder is very strong. I traded in a 98 Ford Explorer with the 4 liter 6, and the RAV4 has nothing to be embarassed about. I took a lot of guff from the ladies at work about choosing a "cute" SUV, but I have to admit that its a very pretty car. Couldn't be happier. I'll supplement if possible after about a month.

I was unhappy with my 2003 Jeep Liberty. I was looking for better gas mileage and more cargo area. I also needed a vehicle that could pull a small boat or a trailer with a couple of ATVs. The new V6 RAV4 has met all of my expectations. The sport edition came with great looking 18" alloy rims. Quick acceleration seems effortless with the smooth 269 HP engine. The 2006 Toyota RAV4 is better than the 2003 I test drove a few years ago in almost every aspect.

The new RAV4 V6 is a really fun car to drive. Power and torque is phenomonal! The vehicle can easily break traction if your not careful. More power than many mid-size V8 SUVs. Steering is tight and precise. The electronic assisted power brakes makes stopping on a dime the norm, besting cars at twice the price. All around visibility is very good. The optional JBL stereo will make any teenager envious of the door rocking thumping power. The vehicle has car like smoothness and is very quite at well over highway speeds. Truely a sheep in fox clothing SUV.

So far, since buying this 'midsize suv', my wife and I have driven over 3500 miles, including a move that took us through the Appalachian mountain range. I cannot be more pleased with my decision to buy this vehicle. With the 4-cyl, there is some hesitation when merging onto the interstate, but overall there is plenty of pickup for 364 out of 365 days of the year. I'm impressed with the room in the 2nd row bench seat, and we have two large dogs that were comfortable for a 1000-mile move to North Carolina. 28 MPG in this car is not a stretch, especially with some mixed (HWY and City) driving. Fit and finish are outstanding!

The color is beautiful (nautical blue) and I love the interior. I only have a 2 wheel drive and a 4 cylinder, but it has enough get up and go for me. Talk about great gas mileage. I went from a gas guzzler and now to this. I am in heaven. I think that I will have this car for a long time to come. No doubt it will be one of my favorite toys.

I upgraded from a 2002 RAV4 that was totaled in an accident, and the 2006 model is an improvement in nearly every area. I was impressed with how the '02 RAV held up in the accident, so there was no hesitation to get another RAV to replace it. The '06 model has plenty of cargo room. I love that the seats don't have to come out to make room for large items. The 4 cylinder 4WD model has plenty of power, whereas I thought the '02 model felt underpowered. I am very happy with the safety additions of anti-lock brakes and side curtain airbags. This car is great, and you can't go wrong with Toyota quality.

Just bought our new RAV4. We are happy with our decision, but would recommend that people wait for the initial demand for these cars to die down before buying. It is a well made car that is well worth the money we paid. Didn't give the car 10s because we believe that no car is perfect, and it is a compact SUV after all. There are cars on the market that are superior, just not for the type of car and not for the price range.

This is the first SUV I have owned. With about 1000 miles on the odometer it's still early but we love it. My wife and I spar over who's going to drive it. It is really fun to drive, very practical and very comfortable. Our other car is a Volvo S80 which we have enjoyed. But the thrill is with the RAV4. We are a little disappointed with our gas mileage. It's running a tad under 20 MPG. We live in Palm Beach County Florida where a lot of driving is stop and go, long traffic lights to wait for heavy traffic on the roads and we haven't had it on the open road except for brief trips on the Turnpike or I95 so the jury is still out. But so far we love the car.

There is almost no road noise in side the cabin, however VSC kicked in more than a few times and was annoying (we have about 6 inch. of snow in Winnipeg , Canada). There is an annoying beeping sound from VSC and there was no need for it to kick in at all. The V6 is very smooth and almost not noticable. It has good power, but not overhwelming like I read in reviews. Overall I'm very satisfied with the vehicle and would definitely recommend it.

Agile handling, good gas economy with the inline 4-cyl engine but has plenty of power. Took five hour trip to bring daughter and her new baby home for a visit. Had my mom in front with me, my daughter and wife sat in the back with the baby/carseat in backseat center. Carseat installed easily. Fit our luggage in the well under the rear cargo floor, and filled the cargo area with all the baby paraphenlia with no problem whatsoever. Even with this full load, the 4-cyl had plenty of power for highway driving and it still handled like a dream. Son-in-law loved its rugged look; and we the interior dash is awesome looking - looked at the competitors and RAV beat them all

We have even been stopped in parking lots and asked what it is, what do we like about it and "can I take a peek". Good gas mileage, a smooth comfortable ride and great looks with plenty of room. We have made 2 11/hour trips to South Florida since the purchase and were very comfortable.

This SUV is great until you have to fill it up. It says it is suppose to get 20+ MPG, but I have only gotten 15- 17 MPG, a huge disappointment. If I knew that this was going to happen I probably would of gotten a Ford Escape. Though I do love the traction control like nothing else. On pure ice I have been able to keep control of this baby with no problem. It is absolutely amazing there. Pick up is okay, the driver seat takes a little getting used to feel wise.

When I read the reviews last fall, this sounded like a great vehicle. The dealer didn't have any RAVs in stock when I ordered, but I figured the pre-delivery test drive would indicate if I would be happy with it. What a huge mistake and disappointment. I should have test driven where I drive daily. I live in the mountains of Northern AZ (Flag, Prescott area), but I thought 166 horsepower should be adequate in a smaller vehicle. The transmission constantly downshifts on practically every uphill section, which of course is ruining my mileage. Even trying to maximize economy after 1500 miles I have yet to average 20 mpg for even one tank. Not worth $25K for a 4 cyl. Spend the extra $ for V6.

I would put this 4WD system up against anything on the road for practical driving purposes. 9 inches of snow were no problem even with all season radials. We had a 1999 but it wouldn't fit an infant seat in rearward position of 2nd row without giving up the passenger seat. On the '06, I drive with my seat in furthest rearward position. My 6 ft. 3 inch friend sat behind me with room to spare between. The turning radius on this seems much better than the 1999 RAV4. Didn't check specs. on that. My wife is still thanking me for buying it (since 1/02/2006). Vermont mountain driving conditions can be scary. I'm glad she drives the kids in this.

I own the Limited 2wd version and am extremely happy with the vehicle. Mileage on first tank of gas was 28 mpg (half city & half highway miles). Acceleration and performance are suberb - drives like a 6 cylinder. Smooth handling and terrific turning radius make this vehicle a real pleasure to drive. Satellite radio is awesome and the JBL sound system is excellent. Road noise is almost non- existent (I bought the Toyoguard that most dealers in the Southeast put on their cars - includes soundproofing which works quite well). The cargo capacity is excellent - much better access and capacity than my '98 Pathfinder. I looked at RX 330's, and for the money the RAV4 is much better value.

Great little SUV

We wanted reliablity, safety, performance, and style without the price tag. The new Ravs gave us all that.

06 RAV4 is selling really fast! five RAV4 were available when I went to the dealer. It has sufficient low end torque. Also, getting to 80mph is a breeze. The newly designed interior is beautifully modern. I never considered buying a RAV4 because of its small size. But, 06 RAV4 is definitely worth a look for its car-like handling, peppy engine, beautiful interior, larger space and gas mileage.

It's what i expected

The look of the new RAV4 is very nice, much better than the previous models. The fuel economy is great.

The day I bought our 2006 RAV4, brought heavy wet snow. I momentarily got stuck in the driveway in nine inches of nearly frozen slush. It took the 4WD LOCK switch to get out but it worked like a charm. It snows nearly every day (during winter of course) where we live in Vermont. This vehicle makes you feel like you can go 100 mph on snow and ice covered roads. (no we're not that dumb) Now that it is big enough for us (two carseats) we are happy to be driving a RAV once again. My six foot three inch friend was very comfortable in the back seat behind my driver's seat which was slid all the way back. The 4 cyl. is more engine than anyone would ever need. Get an 8cyl. truck if you want to plow snow

Just got our new rav 4 today. It is a tremendous inprovement over the 2002 model we traded which was very good and hard to part with. The ride is much improved. Power is much greater and handling is excellant. Gas mileage seems to be a little better, but is hard to tell at this point. Rear set and cargo space is greatly increased. We like the additonal safety features including standard ABS brakes, an actual rear bumper and the optional side air bags as well.

Wow

After considering CR-V, Tucson, Sportage. I got 4 cyl, AWD, Base, a couple od days ago in Canada. It's so rock solid and precise. Nice quality. Everything is tighten. Big enough for 2 kids and 2 adults. Engine room looks well organized. I can see what quality means. I recommend to anybody who wants this size and quality SUV. If you're a Honda fan, you may wait until all new CR-V come out this summer and see. But I won't regret.

Whole new level above

My wife has been driving an 03 Rav4 limited 4WD since getting it new and has been very happy with it. And I wanted one also. So when the 06 was announced I thought we should go check it out. Well I was blown away at the improvements Toyota made with this new RAV4. We bought it for a few % above what the 03 cost us even though both were loaded. Everything about the design is impressive. The size and MPG it gets are hard to believe. The inside styling on the L version is really nice. The general feel of the vehicle is fantastic

The RAV 4 Limited for 2006 is great!!!

This car is wonderful. I previously have owned a 2003 RAV 4 L, and still like it very much. The 2006 model, is really very well designed and a lot of fun to drive. The improvements over the 2003 model include a nice feature of automatic fold-down seats in the passenger area, and more interior room. We will enjoy both cars very much.

A Wonderful Car

I have been waiting to get a 2006 RAV4. It is well worth the wait. It is much bigger than the previous design and many comfortable/convenient features in it. The one that we have is a 4-Cyl but it does have some power. I particularily like the 3-row seat. Although it is not too much leg room there, but hey, the 3rd row seat will be there when we need it. Many cup holders. Drives great in the snow. Also, it plays MP3 and WMA CD, as opposed to just regular audio CD (that means you can particularly burn a MP3 CD with over 200-300 songs in ONE CD).

Impressive Compact SUV

This is a really nice SUV. The new RAV4 is almost now as big inside as the Highlander. Rides likes a Camry, but with the functionality of a SUV. 4 cylinder had plenty of power - 166hp. Fit and finish are very nice. My only hesitation with this SUV is that the rear window does not pop open, as was with the case for previous RAV4s.

The new RAV4 delivers on its promises. The slight increase in length translates into huge increases in cabin space. The ride on the Sport trim is smooth and comes standard with a lot of detail-oriented amenities that make it worth the additional price.
