2-TEXAS OWNER 60 MPG HYBRID WITH EXCELLENT SERVICE HISTORY -- LEATHER -- NAVI & BACKUP CAM -- CLEAN TITLE! Hertel Auto Group is pleased to offer this nice and clean low-mileage 2006 Toyota Prius Hybrid Hatchback for sale in Fort Worth Texas. Bought brand new from Don McGill Toyota of Katy Texas in August of 2006 this Prius has spent its entire life right here in the GREAT State of Texas. Along the way -- according to its CARFAX Report - it's also had the benefit of an excellent Service History with an incredible *50* records appearing. If you've been looking what is considered by many to the best Generation of the Toyota Prius Hybrid then this 2nd Gen (XW20) is the one for you. Hybrid prices had been dipping in the last several months but now it they're back on their way up thanks to the economy and rising fuel prices. And while many brands have tried. And tried. And tried. None of them can unseat the Prius as THE Hybrid vehicle to buy and own. For 2006 the Prius was refreshed with new Headlights and Taillight Clusters on the outside while the inside benefitted from more stain-resistant darker materials and a textured instrument panel center. Motivation for this Prius comes from Toyota's "Hybrid Synergy Drive" which consists of a 1.5-liter gasoline four-cylinder engine and two electric motors; one driving the front wheels with the other functioning solely as a generator to recharge the car's battery pack. Power is routed through a specialized continuously variable automatic transmission. The gas engine produces 76 horsepower and 82 pound-feet of torque while the Electric Motor delivers 67 Horsepower and an incredible 295 lb ft of torque! Net Peak Horsepower is 110; primarily because the two power sources reach their peak HP at different times. The result is power delivery that is smooth and consistent from rest all the way to top speed -- while still returning an incredible (estimated) 60 mpg in the city and 51 mpg on the highway. Mechanically it starts runs shifts and drives exactly like you'd expect it to with no "Check Engine" "ABS" or "Airbag" lights present. All four Falken 185/65R15 tires mounted on OEM 15" Wheels are in good to very good condition. On the outside this rust-free Prius sports an easy-to-care-for Seaside Mica (8S2) Paint Scheme that is complimented by a Grey Leather interior. For the safety conscious this Prius came standard with antilock brakes with brake assist traction control front-seat side airbags full-length side curtain airbags and traction control. In government crash tests the Prius received a perfect five stars for front occupant protection. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the Prius the highest possible rating of "Good" in its frontal-offset and side impact crash tests. Inside the smoke-free interior of this Prius is very well equipped with OEM GPS Navigation; a Backup Camera; Leather Seating & Steering Wheel; Power Windows Locks & Mirrors; Cruise Control; Keyless Push Start; Keyless Entry; Steering Wheel Controls; AUX Port; CD Audio; A/C and more. As with any pre-owned vehicle it does have the usual amount of cosmetic imperfections that are inherent to a vehicle of this age and mileage. We invite you to view all of the photos that are available on our Web Site and determine for yourself if it meets your expectations for a vehicle of this age and price. If it does we then welcome you to stop by for a viewing and test-drive of this economical dependable and versatile 2006 Toyota Prius Hybrid Hatchback. I traveled a very long way to buy a vehicle from this company. Traveling back to North Carolina I had a some problems on the way home. I called the dealership and they immediately reacted and took responsibility. Instead of telling me it's my problem. They went Far and Beyond the Call of Duty with helping me making it home safe. Wow and they did just that. I would recommend anyone looking for a vehicle, to start right here before looking anywhere else. Outstanding, it felt really good knowing that someone actually really cares about you even after leaving out of their doors. Nathian

I picked up the car from my local AutoNation dealership. It came with 115,000 miles on it, the interior and exterior were super clean. The first week I drove it I went 380 miles. The on board computer says I am getting 45mpg, but the car comes with a 11.9 gallon tank, so the mpg's don't add up. I live in Phoenix so the A/C is constantly on, but should the milage be that far off? I don't think so. I will tell all of you that when I went to filler it up the total 13.50. That was an awesome feeling. I'm 5'10 and I could use a little more room. I have the seat all the way back, and it still a bit cramped. It's a great commuter car, and I drive 30 miles round trip, so it is perfect. I paid $6000. for the car, the tires look new and it stops on a dime. I have no real complaints. I hope this helps you with your choice.

My 2006 Toyota Prius has 85,000 miles and is still running strong. I have had no mechanical issues with this car. The Prius is very easy to maneuver in. It gets great gas mileage, it averages 45 mpg in the city. Surprisingly it is pretty spaces, there is enough room for 5 people to fit comfortable. The back seat folds flat to make extra cargo space. I have haled a lot of stuff in the back of my Prius. The technology is pretty good for a 9 year old car, it has a backup camera, hands free calling, navigation, auto climate control, smart key system and HID headlights. The only complaint I have is that the interior materials are low quality and scratch very easily.

Absolutely Love My 2006 Prius Toyota Hybrid☺

Bought an '06 with 61,000 back four years ago. I now have just under 105k on it. This thing is built better than any car I have ever owned. Toyota just thinks everything out so well -- even the tire jack is in an elegant little tray which keeps all of the parts together without rattling. I have never been too mindful of the gas mileage -- I generally get in the low 40's - but the real beauty of this car is the build quality. It is a base model but everything in it works as well today as they day it was built. Cars are expensive and these are more expensive than most cars in their class -- but they are worth every penny for the lack of drama they provide day in and day out.

The best decision I ever made besides my marriage

Purchased in summer 2006. With just under 141,000 miles, I've loved this car every minute I've driven it. Average mix of city/hwy I get 50-55 mpg, with full highway driving 49-53 depending on length of the drive (a few hours vs. much longer distances.) regular gas. It has saved me a fortune in gas and like the 4 Toyotas I owned before it since 1981, it has been continuously reliable. In spring 2012 my hybrid battery died at @128K. I decided: Why buy a new car? There's none better on the market. Replaced the hybrid battery for $2400, now have another 100K warranty on battery. Few things have been a problem - headlights expensive, struts went at 89K, but virtually nothing else. AMAZING car.

LOVE my Prius! We are high mileage commuters, perfect car for the miles we drive. Purchased for $15,200 in 2009 used with mid 20k miles. Use Michelins for a better ride and gas mileage. We are getting 44-56 mpg depending on how much we run A/C (Hey it's Texas, so most of the time) Early morning when it is still cool can easily hit 52-56 since most are highway miles. Expenses occurred so far: Use a K&N engine air filter which saves on air filter expense - not that hard to clean and recharge. Oil changes at 5000k, wiper blades, and I change cabin air filter myself to save service charge. Biggest expense - replacing a part that controls the changeover between electric and gas. $500

This is the best car I've ever owned

The gas savings is obvious -- I'm getting 50MPG with 90% highway driving. If I drive in the city only, I can get 60+MPG. My fuel costs went from $200+ per month to under $100 with barely any effort. The car has also been highly reliable. After all this time I've owned it, it didn't need anything beyond basic maintenance. Sometimes it doesn't even need anything beyond an oil change. I also LOVE the interior in this thing. The 'Start' ignition button, joystick shifter, LCD dashboard, multifunction display....it all looks very futuristic to me. I wish the car has a temperature gauge on the LCD dashboard and that it is more comfortable to ride, but otherwise, it's an extremely great car!

This has been an AMAZING CAR!!

I have had my 2006 Prius V for a year and a half and just had to write a review because it has been such a wonderful car. I bought this car in May 10 w/ 80k miles on it and was a little worried at first because of the high miles. I ended up getting a smokin deal & the only fixes that this car has needed has been an A/C fan regulator, front light bulbs, and the typical oil change, brakes, tires. I now have 122,000 miles on this car (I drive about 3,000 miles a month) and man, what an excellent car! I have range 55-70 mpg (yes 70!) here in Phx. So, if you are considering used, go for it! This is a GREAT CAR that runs well as the miles get up there. Trading for an 11 Prius this month!

A quick update... The car is still running great after almost 100K miles. Items replaced - tires, wipers, front light bulbs (I drive with them on all the time), water pump (covered by my 100K extended warranty), and a recall for the hybrid coolant system tank, air filters, plugs, and serpentine belt, and full coolant change out (I do everything early). Live in New England - get 47 mpg in spring, summer, fall, and 44.5 mpg in winter driving. Based on last oil change, estimate that I still have 35% of brake pads left. Will be replacing my floormats soon, driver side wore out.

coming up on the 5 year anniversary of this big purchase for us- we thought long and hard about the investment on so many levels. happy to say 5 years later we have no regrets and are very happy with this car. Reliability has been outstanding. Only routine maintenance with the exception of a leaking water pump caught by the dealer doing routine oil change and repaired under warrranty at no cost to us.

I drove a 2008 touring prius for 1500 miles and averaged 42 mpg. Then I bought a 2006 base prius and I'm averaging over 48 mpg for the first 100 miles. Maybe the weight of the car and the tires makes a difference in the mpg rating. I do think the 2008 has better sound deadening insulation which may make the car heavier. I previously owned a bmw 335, bmw 525, infiniti m35, toyota avalon, subaru legacy, mazda 3, saturn l200, mustang gt, saab 9-3, honda accord, honda passport, nissan truck, and chevy cavalier but the prius is my favorite simply because of the gas mileage, low maintenance cost and quiet ride. Bought the 2006 base with 49k miles certified for $13,500--excellent condition inside/out.

Bought this car 1/16/06 and finally experienced our first problem - right rear tailight bulb burned out (that's what I thought until I jiggled the bulb and it came back on) 61K miles and still have not had to even change the brake pads! Very roomy and comfortable. Surprize - it will do 106 mph (I personally attest)! OK, it's not a sporty car - but it is fun to drive on the back roads here in NH. We have pushed the MPG reset button only once - at 36K miles - the first 36k our average mpg was 44.7 and since it has averaged a little lower at 43.9. Cold weather and 4 wheel snowtires (a must where there are snowy roads) decrease mpg considerably. Getting ready to buy a 2010 - psyched!

To be fair, I should note that this car belongs to my parents. However, on trips back to California, I have driven their Prius thousands of miles. While its functionality, basic competence, and incredible fuel economy are indisputable, we all find the seats relatively uncomfortable. They are small and stiff, with virtually no lumbar support. Even as manual seats, they should have more adjustments. And even though the driving position is fine in terms of front view, I find the steering wheel placement uncomfortable. Beyond that, the ride is too stiff and jittery over rough pavement and too loose and wallow-y on curvy roads. If comfort and performance are high on your list, not the car 4u

We have owned our 2006 Prius for 3 years and have clocked 79,000+ miles to date. We also own a volvo xc70. The volvo may be more stylish but the Prius is really fun to drive and it has been totally reliable. We have taken long trips to NYC and Michigan and have done lots of in city driving. We were concerned about the life of the battery but read in a British Columbia Climate Exchange report that Prius taxis in BC have gone more than 200000 miles without a battery replacement.

Why wouldn't you?

With a large tax credit to offset the "hybrid premium" it was an easy decision to try the Prius. I was looking for a hatchback as these have the versatility that a one-car household needs without the punishing costs of a SUV. There were surprisingly few hatchback choices in 2006 and this one has turned out to be a winner. Fuel economy to date (45,000 miles) 58.9 MPG; reliability 100%; servicing costs average; fun factor 5 for a normal person, 8 for a geek. Interestingly, I got stranded one night by floods and slept in the car until morning; the ICE kicked on and off occasionally to recharge the battery and keep the A/C running. This car is now my personal hurricane evacuation plan!!

I do my part any way I can to help the environment, including converting to a Vegan lifestyle in order to reduce toxic emissions from meat processing. The obvious way I could do more was to get rid of my two Infiniti gas hogs, which I did. Coming from luxury vehicles with every amenity to my Prius was very easy, like a breath of fresh air. The only things anyone could miss would be power seats, lumbar support, a sunroof and more sound deadening. However, all of these add considerable weight, therefore reducing mileage. I feel as if I have lost no features from my luxo-barges, and gained a clearer conscience. I really love that I am not assumed to be pretentious, or image-conscience anymore.

I just bought a pre-owned 2006 prius with 45K miles on it. Love the car and the features. Drives well and getting 48MPG. Still getting used to the nuances of the car and various noises it's making. Few things to note: 1. I am hearing a noise under the steering wheel when braking/accelerating during city driving. Dealer says its normal. However its annoying me. 2. While discussing the noise issue, dealer found out water pump was leaking. I was surprised it is leaking so soon. Luckily it's covered under power train warranty. Will add more as I drive more.

I have read some of the reviews about the headlights. We experienced a problem with our the battery going dead. We also had problems with both headlights. We were out of warranty but the guys at the dealership told us there had been some bad headlights that were put in some models. They replaced the headlights at no cost to us because there was a known problems and the car is working fine.

Currently we have 63,000 miles so we have considerable experience. Reliability has been superb. Things to fix: 1. Original tires are awful. Why not give us a good set? 2. Seats lack lumbar support. I had to find some special pads to drive more than 100 miles. 3. Allow the front seat to move farther back. I'm only 6' tall and I'm crowded into the wheel. 4. Move the shift lever so it doesn't bang my knee. 5. Fix the gas tank so it doesn't belch gas all over my feet. (I've learned to gas up standing well to the side.) 6. Improve the headlights. The lights on my Toyota pickup are infinitely better. 7. Allow more movement of the adjustable steering wheel. That's a start.

I love it

I traded in a Town Car to purchase the Prius, and haven't missed it at all. With a total of 26650 miles I have had no problems. Averaging slightly over 45 MPG for the entire 26M miles. It has a very functional design with lots of room for 6 footers. I have taken a couple of trips of around 1300 miles each. The car was comfortable during the trip and I had no problem maintaining inter-state speeds even in the mountains while the car was fully loaded. I would recommend this car to anyone who is looking for good, reliable and economical transportation. This is the first time I have recommended a car, and I wouldn't do it if I wasn't sold on it.

I bought my car new in 2005. I am six feet tall and the car is very comfortable front and back. I get between 46 and 52 MPG. I watch the consumption level which changed my driving habits. No jackrabbit starts and I drive a with my cruise control a lot. We have mountainous uphills and I've never had trouble passing on them - lots of get up and go! Have had no problems with it. You can stuff a lot of stuff into this car. I have always owned Toyotas and this is my favorite.

It cost $238.00 to have a headlight bulb replaced!!! Do not buy this car. If I knew I was going to pay BMW prices for things light lightbulbs, then I may as well have bought a BMW. It was 5000 miles out of warranty, and not covered under extended warranty - another ripoff. With the economy the way it is and people trying to keep their homes etc., nobody is going to buy a Prius now that I have educated them about the price just to replace a lightbulb. Toyota would not do nothing for me stating that they had already reduced the price from 500.00 dollars!! This is my last Prius. Please do not buy this car, because they always find a way to avoid the warranty coverage.

My bottom line - I'll trade my Prius on a new Prius when I'm ready for a new car. Much improved generation technology; drastic difference from earliest models. Handling and ride improve noticeably with premium tires. Great cornering abilities. Mileage and performance are very sensitive to air filter cleanliness. Excellent mileage at sea level and on flat terrain (VA Beach ~65 MPG/~61MPG along Lake Erie). No more loss of power on mountain drives (Sideling Hill, MD). Great in snow and on ice. Looks are OK, if you're into pregnant roller skates but very few of us buy it for the looks. So far, no repairs just oil and filter changes. I bought a 100,000 extended warranty with the car, not needed.

I was concerned about the small size and comfort when I bought my Prius. I was surprised to find it is neither small or uncomfortable. It is listed as mid-sized. My 6'6" 270lb son is comfortable in the back seat. The driver's seat will not move back far enough for his comfort, but he can drive it. We did not change our driving habits to accommodate mileage, but average 49.3 mpg. This has been for the last 8000 mi. I have only one complaint, at freeway speeds there is much air and road noise. I am very pleased with the comfort and performance. I eagerly await the plug-in model. I will get one at my first opportunity.

We drive this car around town mostly and average about 45 MPG. Several times a year we drive from Florida to Michigan and back. The last trip our mileage average was 48.8. When the car sets for seven days or more, without being started, the battery goes dead. Local dealer and Toyota advises this is normal. Their "fix" for this problem is having you disconnect the negative battery cable and then reconnecting it when you want to start the car. The battery is located beneath the floor in the cargo area.

Most of these reviews are given after a day or week of owning! I've had the '06 Prius for 2 years and 40,000 miles. New problem: at about 37,000 miles, the headlights started going off, one or the other, sometimes both at once. Fixed temporarily by turning lights off and back on. Mechanic can't find anything wrong with it. Toyota should do a recall and fix this. Gas mileage is greatly affected by the quality of the gas you buy, and how you drive! Watch the info display, and buy higher octane, and no gasohol!

I've had this car since 2/08, and it's quickly become the car most driven in our family. True MPG of 47-48 mph. Note -- Mileage poor for first 5 minutes of driving, while engine charges battery, and fluids are heated. After that, mileage superlative. For 30 minute work commutes, it is unbeatable. I have gotten over 50 mpg for a tankful before, and never below 46 mpg. Pickup is not great, but is adequate. Comfort level is outstanding; radio sound quality superb; seating very comfortable; easily fits 4 adults. This is an outstanding vehicle.

After owning the Prius for two years and 27,000 miles, it has been entirely problem free. I average mid 40 MPG driving mostly in heavy rush hour traffic. It is quiet, comfortable and roomy (for a smaller car). I have hauled lumber (you can close the hatch with 8' lumber over the console). It is extremely roomy and the seats fold flat for volume hauling. I love this car for being practical and economical. I hope the new body style is less quirky and has 17" or 18" lower profile tires. I will trade in my 2006 if Toyota does this. I would like to see an "el Camino" body style option - I would seriously consider buying one.

On the fun-to-drive meter, the Prius ranks pretty low. However, when it comes to practicality, gas mileage, and reliability, it's a definite 10! One thing I really like is that after we had had it about a year, the highway gas mileage improved significantly. Now, we regularly get 50+ mpg on trips. On a recent trip to Nashville, a total of 703 miles roundtrip, we averaged 52.3 mpg. Also, that's driving at the speed limit whenever possible. I also appreciate the fact that in more than a year and a half of hard use, there are still no rattles and no problems at all.

Haven't had our 3rd Prius a full year yet, so I'm not really sure how many miles I'll drive it / year. (My wife has one, and we had a 2001 1st gen. model.) Excellent gas mileage (this tank: 55), although is lower in winter (low-mid 40s). I always marvel at the tight turning radius. The backup camera makes parking so much more easy. Plenty of room - 5 adults PLUS a good amount of cargo room in the hatchback area. Once, I-66 was stopped. I get in the HOV lane, floor it, drop 0.1MPG, get to 60 in about 10sec. I've gotten it to 85 before I realized how fast I was going - gotta watch it, the Prius is too smooth. Most fillups are about 7.5gal. Not bad at all.

I rate the car an easy 9.4 and should be higher. The Prius is a perfect urban car. Easy to park; very much fun to drive; very comfortable regardless of the weather; and high 40's mpgs. The quirky styling only adds to allure of this well-designed , well-engineered car from Toyota. This is my 2nd Prius and though I tried the Camry Hybrid and the Honda Civic Hybrid the Prius is my overwhelming favorite. Even on very long trips low 50's is not uncommon and the comfort exceeds that of bigger cars. Hooray for Toyota on this one. This car represents to me the epitome of design and engineering. I am a complainer about cars and enjoy griping about this and that. I can't do that with the Prius.

There is no reason why this car cannot achieve 100+ mpg. Both the batteries and electric motors are underpowered. I would prefer that this be a plug-in electric car with a high-end on-board electric generator. That said, I achieve 40-45 mpg in the winter and 50- 55 mpg in the summer. I do not understand why the electric motor cannot power the car from a dead start without the gas-powered engine having to kick in.

Just hit 30K. Car running strong, developed rattle in front dash, fixed by dealer. Had Toyota service per manual, plus alignment, replaced OEM tires with Fuzion HRIs. These tires make a big difference in handling, the car now 'sticks' like never before. As of this writing, the best car I have ever owned. Avg MPG in summer 48-50, avg fall through spring 42-44. Change oil @ 10K intervals, use Mobil Full syn 15K rated oil. Oil is still pretty clean at 10K, and still shows 100% full on the dipstick as it did when filled at the last change. Engine seems nice and tight after 30K. If they keep building them this way, I'll be getting another when time is due. Solid car!!

My husband and I love the Prius we have. The only issue (and it is completely unacceptable) is that Toyota does not trust the driver (or the passenger) to use the navigation system safely while the car is moving. Either restore the 2005 and previous override or only disable the nav system if no one is in the passenger seat. If we had known what limited functionality the navigation system provides while you are actually enroute, we would not have bought it!

We love the Prius. It has more comfort for 4 people than our former Oldsmobile Intrigue. Overall well designed. Disappointing is the mileage in the winter. A typical 30 mile trip is about 46 mpg dropping a little in the winter when the heater needs to be on. Less than quoted. MPG goes up to about 50 on a 120 mile trip to Seattle on the freeway. The mileage goes up in stop and go traffic. The concept is great and if the batteries had more capacity one could draw more from them and mileage would improve greatly. The plug and drive would be immense help for us who typically drive 30 miles per day. Lobby for plug and drive!!

Toyota clearly began with a clean sheet - asking what could they do to minimize emissions but sell to a large market. Once they had gone hybrid they looked at what the presence of a large available source of electricity could mean. Very responsive electric power steering. Electric A/C - no serpentine belt to put a constant drag on the engine. Electric water pump. Electric fan. You get the idea.

I get 43 to 44 miles to a gallon, which is lower than EPA estimates, but so is ALL others - people would go crazy if they knew the actual mileage of their big hogs and "SUV buses"! I have done nothing to the car except change the oil and rotate the tires. With the smart key, I never take the key out of my pocket, all doors and the hatch can unlock and lock automatically. Displays are perfect, sound system is excellent, back seat is roomy, plenty of room for luggage for two. P.S. I do not own Toyota stock, but wish I did!

It is fun to drive, excellent gas mileage plenty of power and I definitely am doing my part for the environment. Over the past few years it has improved on the looks too. It is truly amazing how much power this little car has. The display on the dash shows in detail how the energy/gas consumption is being used. It's almost a year I owned this car with no problems. The only time it was at the dealership was for an oil change. To fill the tank it cost me about $24. It can get 61 mpg on the highway and 53 mpg in the city. If there is one thing, be sure not to leave a door open all night. My son didn't shut my hatch all the way. The next AM, I couldn't start it. And it will not move. You can't just put it in neutral and back it out. You better have an extra long set of jumper cables.LOL. Seriously though, I love the car, it's got great cargo space and very comfortable inside. I got the basic model, one I could afford, and find. They are very hard to come by. What you save in gas and insurance from day one will make up the cost.

My Prius handles well and has been a pleasure to drive. Takes time getting used to driving a car without as much initial pickup as my old Pontiac, but there is no comparison in mileage and visits to gas station. Mileage around town avg about 45 mpg. Recent highway trip averaged 53 mpg. I use cruise control a lot to help with mileage. I'm saving over $200/mo in gas since I got rid of my former gas guzzler. Tax credit a big plus. I bought the basic model and love it. Lots of room for luggage for vacation or weekend trips.

One step at a time.

We wanted to walk the walk and not just talk the talk. By going hybrid we are trying to take that first step and wonderful things are taking place. People are talking to us about the idea, logistics, etc. The car seems very well thought out and user friendly. 'Whatever you do may seem insignificant, but it is most important that you do it'(Gandhi) Hopefully our Prius will lead to many good things. I have to give credit to my wife as she really pushed the idea!

Wow this car is like driving the car of the future! I am getting about 53 mpg average. Sticker said 61 mpg but here in Ky we do not have the stop and go traffic to get the higher mileage. It is quiet, smooth, powerful and the interior space is amazing. The back seat is far larger than anyone would imagine from looking at the outside.

Have only had my Prius for three months and have already driven 12,000 miles. It handles nicely and the gas mileage runs 51 mpg on the average, but I do very little city driving and some fast interstate driving. Just love it and recommend it as one vehicle in a two car family.

Level 6 options. Bought it out of state and drove 500 miles on highway bringing it home. 48 MPG at 65 mph mostly. Within the city highway driving at 55 mph gives about 52 mpg. Hoping to get 60 MPG within the city at mostly 40 mph and 35 mph driving. Will report later. Lots of features, would take me a week to find all the features and test them.

There is a ratle in the dash but that is the only complaint.Mileage is 30 % less than advertised but 42 mpg is fine. I sorly miss instruments like tachometer compass temperature. The exterior is alarmingly velnerable to dings due to the lack of any "bump- strips". The ovehead sunglass tray looks and feels cheap. The upolstry does not look or feel in the same class as our old 1990 626. I'm glad it says Toyota on it. Time will tell if it was a good idea.

I only have this car for a month now, and I love it. The only problem I have is the rear mirror - wish there was a better way to see out of it. I also get about 45 mpg - do not know how to get it to go higher. That is around town. I got about 51 on a trip last week. Great car-traded in our Hondy Odyssey since the family is now grown, and my husband and I just love the Prius. We keep our cars forever and I believe we will be keeping this Prius. My wife and I finally talked each other into buying a Prius 3 weeks ago and we are very happy. Very well built and fun to drive and it is a constent reminder about what we can do better if we are willing to make changes. They were smart to show the MPG and allow you to retrain yourself with how you drive. You never forget that it is a hybrid and I think that is smart design decision. Also a great way to educate my kids on pollution, smart technology that looks to solve a real problem and allowing yourself to try new things.

I have found the Prius provides one of the most enjoyable driving experiences I have ever had with any car. Over the years I have driven 2-3 dozen different automobiles. What has made the experience so enjoyable is that the car has changed my driving style, all for the better. The on-going fuel consumption monitoring/reporting system has encouraged me to set new consumption goals each trip I make with the car, thus forcing me to do the things that make my drives safer and more economic.

I got 43 mpg on my first tank - I use the car to commute 8+ miles (each way) to work - 3/4 of the daily trip is local, and ~4 miles are highway. The handling is great - the weight of the car is nicely distributed and you can really tell the difference when making tight turns. The start from traffic light is much faster because of the electric motor assist. Overall it's much more responsive than a normal gas engine car, and I can really tell the difference when I switch to drive my wife's regular car.

A very good car. Excellent build quality from Toyota. Has lots of pep and handles very well. There is a little more body roll in cornering than most sedans but it is not uncomfortable. Gas mileage is very good but it will flucuate depending on the steepness of the hills that you have to drive over, but still I drive in West Virginia and average between 46 and 55 mpg on the highway at 65 to 75 mph. It also has great aerodynamics and has no handling problems around large semis. City driving is high 50's to 60 mpg. Interior is very roomy with Lexus type build quality with few complaints. The back window takes getting used to but the car comes with a rear camera display for backing.

I have buyers remorse. The fuel economy has not lived up to the talk -- avg about 45mpg. Drivers seat/wheel/dash ergonomics very poor. Human factor design terrible on things like digital speedo (analog is easier to read, thus safer), fuel guage and other dash read-outs -- very illogically placed and distract from driving. Especially climate controls having to be accessed via the electronic screen. Give me knobs for easy feel of adjustments levels without needing to take my eyes and brain off my driving. Audio system the same -- just take it off the screen menus. Navigation is a pain to learn and use -- very user unfriendly. Transmission knob idiotic and key/locking system beyond logic.

We purchased our Prius primarily because of its excellent gas mileage and its being an environmentally friendly vehicle plus Toyota's reputation for outstanding engineering, trading in our Acura 2.5. The Prius was met all of our expectations and has also been a great car for longish road trips on interstates and back roads-a very pleasant surprise we had not expected. It's also been a lot of fun to drive. We'd certainly buy it again.

Purchased in June, the car now has more than 10,000 miles while averaging 48 MPG with 95% freeway driving. It is clear that Toyota spent most of their money on the technology platform and it all functions pretty seemlessly. This car offers great economy with few compromises. Wonderfully reliable, the car has yet to be back to the dealer. After the previous seven years driving a Volvo S80 T6 that couldn't stay out of a dealership for two consecutive weeks, reliability is a real treat.

It was a difficult decision to give up my beloved Lexus, but after watching Al Gore's movie, we decided to put our money where our beliefs are.... We tested the available hybrids and chose the Prius for environmentally positive reasons, but were also seduced by the advanced technology, design, and other features. Although we haven't had it very long, we're completely happy with it; it was easy to start driving although we still have things to learn about the dps system and other advanced features. We went for the top of the line since we liked the add-ons, but friends are happy with the basic, as well.

Our '06 Prius (Package #3) delivers as advertised. We've put nearly 3K miles in the first month since we drive the Prius all the time while leaving our other cars at home. As a result, we're saving on fuel costs and polluting less while averaging about 47 mpg (plus not having to go to the gas station as often is also very nice). This car is sure easy to live with and tackles daily commuting better than any other vehicle we've owned. It's easy to drive, comfortable, has enough power to merge onto freeways or pass slower vehicles, very quiet at speed, roomy and has a very flexible cargo area (unlike the new Civic hybrid where rr seats don't fold).

I have had this car about 4,000 miles and I am still amazed by it. After buying it, my wife made me sell her LS430 Lexus since she quit driving it completely. I really feel less tired after a long trip than I did in my Lexus. Many people have stopped me in parking lots and asked about it, and I have never met a person that has one that did not love it. If more people drove hybirds, we would be exporting oil not to mention what it would do to the environment. Believe it or not, this is about the 10th year that this car has been----and it is really perfected.

I love the fuel economy, the comfort of the back of the driver's seat, windshield visibilty. It's fun to drive. Improvements needed: --The inside back-up beep, beep, beep distracts my visual concentration. I strongly dislike this feature and I would feel safer without it. --The forward visual field of the low beam headlamps cuts off far too short as soon as the car begins a downgrade. I don't like this. --The driver's seat bottom (of the car) needs to be more cushy My butt and legs are uncomfortable after 1/2 hours on the road. --I haven't seen 60mpg except for a few seconds after filling the car up with gas. I avg. about 50 mpg. I am still happy to be driving a Prius!

Driving my Prius is great fun. It gets very good gas milage, but no where near the 60 it advertises. My average is 43mpg. Still better than most 4 cyl. With that said, the only other problem I have is the interior display (heat, radio, etc). It's displayed on a cool, TV like screen, but you have to jump to different screens to change each thing. i.e. You want to change your heat to defrost, or change the station on your radio. There's lots that can be done on the steering wheel, but I find that equally annoying. If given the choice, you definatley want the rear camera (when you put in R a rear view comes up on that screen). But GET ONE, save yourself some money & save our planet!

Coming from a 1992 BMW 325i, I have no regrets in choosing the '06 Prius! I am saving $100/month in gas, and I don't feel like I've compromised anything. Granted, the BMW is an excellent car and I believe it is the best handling small sedan available, but the Prius has so many 'luxury' features standard that I don't think it's downgrade in anyway. I've never had so much fun driving a car in my life. It's a real kick employing special techniques -- like "pulse and glide" to maximize fuel economy. But even if you ignore special techniques, you'll just love watching your mpg screen tell you exactly how well you're doing in terms of mpg for every 5 minute driving segment. I can often record 100 mpg segments when in ideal driving conditions -- i.e., infrequent stopping, mid-speed driving. And all the while you're having fun, you can feel good about reducing pollution by 90% as compared to the average new car. With a comfortable ride, more than adequate acceleration, and top safety features, this car is hard to beat. I love it!

Great car! If this were a normal 4 or 6 cylinder gas engine car, it would still be a fantastic ride. The "fit and feel" is tight as you would expect from Toyota engineering. Gas mileage (real world) is closer to 39-40 mpg, but that's driving with AC blowing full blast (which drains batteries a little faster therefore requiring gas engine recharging at highway cruise speeds a little more often). It's fast off the line, too. Very quick car. If I drove it more efficiently, I would probably be getting better gas mileage. Would buy it again in a heartbeat !

This is a great car if you buy it with the expectation that it is a fuel sipping multi-purpose vehicle. The problems with it that I have encountered are mostly minor. The seats are not very comfortable. 45-50 MPG is about the real world mileage you can expect. Performance is surprising but unspirited. (I am a former 3-series BMW driver.) I got the car because of the NYS Clean Pass that allows travel in LIE HOV lane w/o any passengers. Mission accomplished. Bought new 4/21/06, now has 12,000 miles. The surprise was the silver lining - anywhere between 48 and 54 mpg saves me thousands in gasoline. I drive a daily round trip of 140 miles - the car replaced by the Prius was a 2004 Mercedes Benz CLK Convertible - Benz @ 20 mpg with high test, Prius @ 50 mpg with regular. Any questions? And the fact that every fill-up costs pennies vs. the Benz says it all. My driveway contains three Mercedes, one BMW, one SAAB and one Prius. Reverse snobbery rules here in my house - the Prius wins HANDS DOWN. No wonder it retains value!

Having driven everything from a Porsche 944 to a Pontiac GTO ('66) and some of the fastest gas guzzlers one can drive, I am now an impassioned convert (aren't all converts impassioned?) to the low-emission, high-mileage-per-gallon world of the Toyota Prius. This car is incredible. First off, the mileage is great, even better than I thought it would be. Second, and now just as critical as ever, is the emissions. Very low, negligibly low, which means great things for the environment. Third, this car is FAST. Gets you on the highway very quickly and (don't tell the state troopers) I've had this car up to 95 mph; the car didn't even hiccup at that speed. That's plenty fast for anyone.

What a Great Car!!

I love my Prius! It is beautiful, I love the design, and the headlights - she seems sassy to me. The interior is spacious and you feel like your in a much larger car. There is a lot of leg and head room, I am short and find it comfortable but have taken lots of tall folks around in it and they all agree that it is spacious. But the thing I most love is bragging about my really great gas mileage! I get an easy 48.8 mpg and on a recent trip got 48.5 at 77 mph. Great car! Thanks.

I drive this Prius about 200 miles every week. I average about 55 miles to the gallon depending on the wind here in the Texas Panhandle. I averaged over 50 miles to the gallon when we drove to Salt Lake City and back. This trip was about 2000 miles and in the mountains. There was 4 adults in the car besides our luggage. I drove about 70 miles an hour. We just got back from Virginia. We drove 10 hours one day and 16 hours the next day at about 72 miles an hour. There was 5 of us in the car. Three adults and two children plus our luggage, we averaged about 50 miles to the gallon, and this trip was about 4000 miles. I am very happy with my Prius and wouldn't trade it for any car.

I am averaging approx 50 m.p.g. so far this summer. I have about 6000 miles on it now and I have no regrets. I hope toyota keeps their quality forever. I couldn't be more happy with this Toyota Prius. Thank you.

This car is just amazing. It has more interior room than our Merc Sable and, with its hatchback design, offers much more versatility. My son recently attended a resident soccer camp and I had no trouble hauling him plus all his stuff for a week plus a refrigerator and all the stuff to put in it. Mileage is sensitive to how you drive the car but I've been able to get 63 mpg on a tank with little effort. We got the full package included navigation which is a godsend for finding obscure soccer fields we have to get to across the state!

I have driven my 2005 Prius nearly 30K miles and have little to complain about. I average 43/44 MPG on interstate highways at 80 MPH average. Best mileage per tank was 51 MPG. No complaints at my average speed and no problems for the car to handle 90+ MPH. Utility of car is a very pleasant surprise as storage space with rear seats folded down is impressive. Bluetooth doesn't work very well but NAV system is much better than on my wife's Lexus. Wind noice at high speeds is my only complaint as well as "feeling" road surfaces a bit more than larger car. I will gladly accept this tradeoff however for this great car.

One of the best purchases we made in our 42 years of marriage! Fun to drive. Consistent 50 mpg - mostly highway miles. Roomy. Nice sound system. Love the back up camera and the constant mpg screen. Love all the controls on the steering wheel - wish that the cruise was there, too. Lots of room when the back seats fold down. Lots of hatchback space. Roomy back seat. Love all the little "cubbies". Really loved the government credit. Would buy another in a blink!

I bought a 2006 Prius in December 05 and have put 12,000 fun and trouble- free miles on it. I got the "loaded" version with all the options including the navigation system and so far everything has worked flawlessly. Fuel mileage has been excellent although the 61 mpg in city driving requires a lot of gas pedal finess. A recent trip from Phoenix to Denver netted 56.8 mpg. My only complaint is that the mapping system is outdated, probably by about 2 to 3 years. Toyota should offer free or inexpensive updates every year. I would buy another Prius in a heartbeat although I'm hoping I'm still driving this one 5 years from now.

We bought a 2006 Prius just this past weekend. I had a scare when I forgot the next morning that you have to have your foot on the brake to power up the car, but a quick look at the manual righted that problem. Also found out that two clicks on the smart key unlocks all the doors, whereas one just unlocks the driver's door. I'm sure I'll continue to have questions, but so far I'm thrilled. Got an average of 60 mpg this morning driving ten miles to work. At that rate I'll be visiting the gas pump once a month instead of once a week.

I really enjoy drivig the car. Tire pressure has been checked, I am driving in the most efficient way that I know of; no flooring, lots of coasting, avoiding complete stop at lights if legal, slowing down for a turn using low gear and very little of any, brakes. So why am I getting a high of 36 mpg? I brought it into the dealer but they have no suggestions.

I love that the Prius gets great gas mileage, not as good as advertised, but certainly a step in the right direction. The visibility needs to be improved. The rear view mirror is in the way of foot and car traffic approaching from the right-hand side. The many lights on the dashboard reflect in the windshield making night driving difficult.

It is just fun to drive, I love being able to take phone calls in the car withing have to take my eyes off the road and the JBL sound system is great. Filling up every 500 plus miles is just icing on the cake. Snow, rain, or shine it handles like a dream. I don't need to fumble with keys and take them out of my pocket anymore, the keyless entry system means I just touch the door handle and it unlocks and I push the start button and it starts right up. Who could ask for a better car.

There is also the interior room of a larger mid-size, great ride, above average handling, techno-toys galore, simple to operate, and just a joy to drive. You feel great everytime you drive it. The rest is just all Toyota - great fit and finish, and the car feels like it cost 10k more than it does.

I've had my 2006 Prius for about 5 months, and driven just over 4,000 miles and I love it. I find it to be more fun to drive than my 280Z (I'm dating myself) or my MR2. I've had it up to 85 mph on the turnpike and it doesn't break a sweat. My normal commute is at around 45-55 mph on country roads, and I've been getting between 50 to 52 mpg. I haven't really tested its acceleration from a stand still because of the hit it would have on gas mileage, but have never had a problem keeping up with traffic. It's incredibly roomy for a car that gets an actual 50+ mpg. Adults can comfortably sit in the rear even with the front seats all the way back.

I've had my Prius for three months and have loved every minute I've been behind the wheel. My wife is not a car person or a "techie" but she has fallen in love with it, too. It's peppy, has nimble steering, corners easily and turns on a dime. Mileage averages about 50 mpg. On one 50 mile trip on the freeway I got 69 mpg crusing at 68 mph. Even if the real world mileage isn't up to the EPA estimate it still runs circles around most cars out there, especailly the 98 Windstar I happily gave up. After quickly adjusting to its unique controls and dash display we find everything about it to be logical and intuitive. The quality of the build is outstanding. Hands down the best car I have owned.

I traded my Cadillac Deville and we are just as comfortable in this car. It has all the bells and whistles we need. We average 45 miles to the gallon. The caddy got 14. Its nice driving by the gas stations we fill up after we put 500 miles on 1 tank and buy 10 to 11 gallons to fill this 12 gallon tank. However ethenol does hurt the mileage.

We sold our 2001 BMW 330i for the Prius without thinking a second thought. The build quality is great, especially love the blue tooth hand free phone and voice activated GPS. Another nice thing is the MP3 DVD player, I burn 200 MP3 songs in one disk easily as oppose to the BMW that I have to burn separate CDs that can only hold around 15-20 sounds per disk.Trunk space is amazing in this car. Nice hatchback design - the trunk is surprisingly roomy. The interior design is also very sleek and modern-looking. The actual mileage I get isn't quite as good as the displayed mileage, but the Prius is far more efficient than nearly every other car. Overall, I have been very happy with my Prius.

Very comfortable, and I am not a small guy. The mileage jumps even more after about the first 1500 miles, the break-in period. I just drove round trip 353 miles, including much city driving. I averaged 50.2 miles per gallon, with A/C on. Reliable, as in any Toyota. Cannot go wrong with this car.

The mileage we have put on this car is higher than we realized so fast due to the fact thay the gas mileage is so incredibly great that we always drive this car. We have two other cars they are fuel efficient and still can't compete with the fun driving experience of this car. Equipped with navigation system and smart key/keyless entry, this is the car of the future no need for a key and won't break the bank! We even installed our mp3, ipod, etc. We spend so much time in this car compared to the others we own.

I bought this Prius to replace my 2002 Prius, which was a great car. The new 2006 Prius handles well on the road and is very comfortable to ride in. The computer readout is very helpful in optimizing mpg. The new, more stylish design, emphasizes the high tech capabilities of the car, but even with careful driving, I have not been able to match the 54 mpg I was getting on the old Prius. The new one is getting about 49-50 mpg. The navigation system in better than in the older model.

Let me state right off that I really love this car. It is easy to drive and performs well. I am somewhat disappointed in the city driving fuel economy. I expected at least 60 MPG driving in the city and haven't reached nearly that economy. In NH we have hilly terrain and I'm lucky to get 48 MPG driving around town. Highway MPG seem to be around the 55 MPG promised. I love the display that tells you what economy you're getting. It helps you realize fast starts are not the answer and improves your driving habits. Maybe I'll get there yet!

Great purchase, especially with gas going up the way it has. I have done the best I can to conserve and got a new car in the deal. I used to drive a Highlander and do not miss the size etc. I would highly recommend a Prius purchase. The car delivers all the quality one should expect from a Toyota with the bonus of 45 miles per gallon around town.

This is a great car. It has multiple safety features and unbeatable economy. If you drive it correctly, one can expect to get 52-55 mpg in the city and an easy 50 mpg on the highway. With the tax credit, it makes it a wise decision to buy, saving considerable fuel and putting virtually no pollutants into the environment. Although it technically is rated at 110 horsepower, this vehicle can really move on the highway if you need to "punch it".

This the most enjoyable, totally satisfying car I've ever owed in my 48 years of driving. It leaves almost every offering from American, the European and other Asian car companies in the dust. The technology is typical Toyota - well engineered, well manufactured and ultra reliable. Besides that, the Prius is a blast to drive! Performance and comfort are excellent. 550-600 miles from a fillup of only 11.9 gallons is only one of the Prius' high points. The only problem I've had with the car is the LONG wait to finally get it after ordering. And did I mention that the Prius is a blast to drive?

When I first test drove the Prius, it had this noticible drag to it. This was due to the regenerative braking system. I looked at the onboard displays and knew this was the car for me. Right now, thanks to the electric part of the car, I am getting almost 70 mpg. I can't say anything wrong about my car. the milage at the start of the fill is up to 160 without losing fuel. What a car! I like paying for gas, once in a while, not every week.

Because of the lack of noise and the climate control factors I didn't get tired. All in all I have been enjoying the gas milage in town and on the road (although I haven't acheived the estimated rates yet) and the environment of the inside of the car and the beauty of the outside design. I've owned this car since Jan 06. It's been perfect from the day I brought it home. Pro: -It's well built and fun to drive. -Gas mileage is great... city/highway average is 50mpg. -Plenty of leg room, storage space. -Much bigger on the inside than it appears. -Comfortable on short and long drives. -Navigation system works well. Con: -Design-wise, it's a bit of an ugly duckling. This could be improved if the available color choices were a bit brighter and startling. -Light and wiper controls would be easier to use if they were not so obscured by the steering wheel. -Glare from the mid-dash control screen can be bothersome when the sun is shining thru the rear window.

I just purchased this car a few weeks ago, and I have driven it for over 2000 miles. Very fun car to drive, and for a small car it is pretty spacious. I love the fact, that I can drive in the carpool lane alone. The gas mileage is overrated, I get about 45-47 mpg average, not 60 impg. I guess its still better then the alternative, but not as nice as I thought it will be. Other then that, cool little car.

We actually own 2 06 Prii, changing over from a minivan and a 4Runner, we are loving the gas mileage. I expected to miss the cargo space but so far have not at all. Even after a wk long vacation. I avg about 45 and DH avg about 50. I tend to take shorter trips. This vehicle has changed the way we both drive having your mpg showing on the MFD makes you very conscious of what you are doing. We continually get asked about our cars and can say nothing bad about them. Oddly there are now 3 or 4 in my color in our area and we seem to have a commrodery even though I have never met these people. Highly recommended this car is great for people in all walks of life, college grad to retired.

I bought a Toyota Prius in Jan. 2006 the gas mielage is great, I average about 51.9 mpg in city and highway driving, never got that kind of mpg anywhere, so my opinion is that Toyota is ahead of other car manufactures in developing the hybrid, I hope the next phase will be either a hybrid diesel or hydrogen hybrids in the future.iThe Prius is a very comfortable car for long trips, I feel like I'm driving a big car without the big car gas mileage.

But these fears have proved to be unfounded. It's not as quiet a ride as my old lexus, but I didn't expect it to be. The car is the topic of conversation everywhere I take it. After driving over a curb and hitting a pipe sticking out of the ground, I damaged the plastic protector to the main power cable running from the back to the front of the car. The pipe cut in to the cable, and the car sensed the voltage drop and shut down, and generated a $1,500 repair bill. On the brighter side, the dealership was well equipt to handle the repair and had several Prius-trained mechanics on staff. Because of the unusual repair, it took two days to get the part, but the work was done professionally and quickly. Overall, we're very happy with the car's performance and gas mileage. However, we really aren't careful in trying to raise the mileage, which is about 48 average.

This is our second Prius, our first was a 2004 and we were so happy we bought another one, the 06 seems to ride a bit better, a bit more pep and feels a bit more solid. If this one goes well we will be buying a Camry Hybrid soon. Oh by the way we are not tree huggers we also own a Hummer and a Suburban XL but how can you argue with easy parking and a consistant 48mpg in the city and 46 on the HWY... We love all our cars but I can't argue with saving 6-7k a year in fuel.

A driving experience that really grows on you: started out great & just gets better & better each day. The darned Consumption display is addictive - and a wonderful driving lesson for kids (and parents). You get competitive with that display/video game, resulting in better driving. The seats are comfortable but power adjustment (@ least for driver) would help w/ leg room and thigh support. Interior room is surprisingly large. Gas mileage started out OK (51) and has been getting better, but high-speed highway travel just sucks petrol. Performance is adequate (or better if ya stomp on it). Aerodynamic design, but strong gusty cross-winds can still wiggle the car a bit. Great fun, great car!

Our new Prius is truly outstanding in virtually all respects. However, the hatchback window design makes vehicle reversing a genuine challenge. While a standard onboard TV monitor presents an acceptable view [day or night] of the wide area behind the Prius when shifting into "R," there is no substitute for carefully scanning behind your hybrid. The rear window configuration makes such scanning difficult at best.

Our Prius experience has been excellent. Approaching 5 K miles we have averaged 48 MPG overall. The mileage has recently topped 50 MPG in primarily urban driving. The car arrived with no defects and has performed flawlessly. Handling is adequate but not sporty. Heating and air conditioning system is very responsive. Hatchback makes for great flexibility whether carrying people or stuff. My concerns relate mostly to the driver's seat--needs lumbar support, height adjustment capabilities. The car would benefit from GM's oil monitoring technology which bases oil changes on driving and engine conditions rather than mileage. Would certainly buy another Prius!

I purchased the Prius 10 days ago and it is already obvious I made a great decision; fun to drive, great fuel economy, and as another owner noted, it is giving me increased self- awareness when it comes to how I drive via the engine/mpg display. I wanted a hybrid because I am sick of high gas prices and paying big oil's bonuses...while I cannot totally escape purchasing gas, it's nice to know I am now purchasing as little as possible. The only downside thus far to owning a Prius? I am fighting feeling smug as I zip around all those huge SUVs!

If everyone owned a Prius, there would not be long gas lines because they don't need fill-ups very often. Conceivably, there might never be a gas shortage. Based on my experience, each trip will yield 40 to 55 mpg, so you also save money. Driving this car is like riding the wave of the future. It is a quiet, effortless dream. You don't even have to fumble for a key; just push a button! I never before had a car that I absolutely looked forward to running errands in. You can even sharpen your driving skills to increase your mileage performance (like a game). Hint: it takes great concentration. It is my second Prius; had a 2002 (loved it), but moved forward to the new sleeker version.

I had a 2004 Prius for the last two years and it was great. Now I bought a 2006 and it's even better! Aside from the great mileage, the backseat passengers are very comfortable and it holds LOTS of stuff! It's so relaxing when the motor goes off for periods of time. It's a great car!

I have owned the Prius only 2 months, and love the nav system, the handling, and the cost to fill up a tank of gas. I went from driving a BMW and think the handeling is comparable although the braking is not as good. It is nice to have the back up camera although on rainy or foggy days visibility is limited. I have a small dog and he sheds, the dash is a hair magnet as is the CD holder. I wish the seats were a little more cushy and electronically adjustable. I would recommend this car in an instant and have requests daily for people to test drive it.

LOVE THE PRIUS. I had the top of the line 2004 Prius, whose only shortcoming was the lack of leather seating. This was all solved with the 2006, which we ordered the minute we could. I took delivery on the top of the line '06 Prius, and immediately could tell an improvement. They revamped the navigation system (and all the other displays) and also replaced the smooth plastic dashboard with "rhino-skin" which is very appealing and stays exceptionally clean.

No matter how many times car people tell me that the Prius is never going to pay for itself, I'll still drive one. This is my second one and I love everything about it, especially the fact that the pollution level is so low. My mileage for my 2003 averaged 45-49 mpg (actual mileage) and the new one is 49-52 mpg so far. Foo on the naysayers-this is a really comfortable and well handling little car. I love the back up camera and the 8 airbag option also.

We purchased our Prius after waiting a month for it to come in. My wife drives 50 miles each way to work and we felt with the rising fuel prices, we needed a change from the PT Cruiser she was driving. This Prius has tickled us to death so far. It's averaging 55 mpg on the Hwy and around 58 mpg in town. We live in a rural area so we have more "country driving". The car is very comfortable with lots of leg room (6' tall). So far we've found nothing to grumble about, and I'm picky. Treated extremly well at the Joplin Toyota dealership too. Kept up to speed on delivery and made it happen. Excellent all around sedan with great warranty too!

I know I was reading about others reporting that they don't get the gas mileage on the sticker, but I can not think back to any car I ever had that matched the sticker milage per gallon. I am averaging about 50 mpg and that is mostly highway. I have taken a few long drives on back roads and have averaged about 55 mpg. If anyone wants to split hairs please do. But, I am very happy with that mileage. I also noticed if you are a "lead foot" forget about getting high mileage but from what I hear you can still expect 45 mpg. By the way the space in my prius is great and I had 4 people on a long trip and no problems. All I can say is look at the gas prices and decide if it is time yet?

I bought a 2006 Prius just over a month ago, and I must admit, there have been some real surprises for me despite my intensive research. This is a car that's truly fun to drive. While the hybrid system may give some pause who demand lightning accelleration and response, I want to assure you, this is a different kind of car that will help change the way you drive. It makes you more one with the machine than any other car ever I've driven. How does it do this? The interactive nature of the driving system and the onboard computer that gives you a clear idea of how your driving is affecting your fuel economy. This car will help you to become a better, more aware driver.

Ordered the Prius in September of 2005 and received on 01/23/06. Gas mileage is excellent at 44 MPG for all 9800 miles that I've put on it so far. Car has suprisingly good pickup and is very solidly built. This vehicle replaced a Tahoe which I was using for business. Fit and trim are excellent. Wish true American car companies could build a car that gets this type of mileage. Also love the keyless aspect with automatic unlocking of drivers door with out having to funble for keys.

My Prius has surpassed my expectations. I just put in my second tank of gas since I bought the car and was surprised that I had got 55.6 mpg (per my calculation), the on board computer reported 54.9. My first tank I got 51.5 mpg. I was not expecting the mpg to be this good since the press always states that actual Prius mpg is less than that stated on the window sticker. It may help that I live in very flat and warm Florida. In all other respects this car is very pleasing to drive.

I was amazed at how well the GPS and Bluetooth feature worked, though the voice activation is so so. Lots of interior and trunk space for a car this size. Acceleration is just above average. I was surprised to see there wasn't a power seat option. Overall, an awesome car - a technological marvel.

I purchased this vehicle after owning a Toyota Matrix 4WD XR for 4 years. I can honestly say the Prius has better and much quieter acceleration. I am averaging 52.5MPG on my second full tank of gas in mostly city driving around Boston! (48MPG on the first tank) I will miss 4WD drive in the winter, but traction control/VSC is better than nothing! The 6 CD changer takes MP3 CDs which means you can record 100-150 songs on a disk (600-900 total song jukebox)!!! If that is not enough there is AUX in in the armrest for IPODS and SAT in for Satellite Radio! It seems to be able to substain 100MPG at speeds between 30-40MPH while coasting with no arrows on the energy display for 2-3 miles at times!

This car has everything. It's technology at it best. The Prius feels larger than it is. The interior is spacious, Storage and cargo space is quite large. Batteries are underneath the car rather than in the cargo area. The Prius accelerates suprisingly fast. It handles and feels like a mid-size car. The $3100.00 Federal tax creit for the first 60,000 units sold in 2006 is a real bonus. Tax credits are gradually reduced 50%, then 25%. Toyota estimates that 15,000 will be sold each month through 2006. I cannot say enough good things about this automobile. Consumer Reports rates this car as a hybrid best and the repair records show that the car has been nearly flawless for the last 2 years.

The touch screen provides excellent feed back on what the vehicle is doing, also the ease with making any necessary changes to climate control, audio etc. are easy and simple to accomplish. The additional command controls on the steering wheel are really handy to eliminate the need to remove your hands from the wheel. The vehicle drives and rides surprisingly well for such a small looking car, however the interior isn't small car at all. When sitting in the vehicle you have the feeling of being in a much larger vehicle and in fact the sq. foot room is spacious. I really like the vehicle and am not disappointed with anything about it. It is a super engineered car with many convenient features.

The car immediately did pretty heave road duty ferrying our son to travel soccer tournaments and games...most out-of- state or on the other side of the state. Love it! Rides well, road noise is minimal, has a bigger interior feel than our Mercury Sable, great mileage. Head room is great, cargo capacity is fine, good visibility.

The Prius is comfortable to ride-in, really fun to drive and we have honestly been averaging 54 miles to the gallon in all kinds of driving conditions (although we live in the south, so not really any truly cold weather. And we do drive somewhat differently in this car. We use cruise control ALOT, we glide a lot - meaning take feet off the brake when gliding to a red signal, for instance...and we try to accelerate slowly. The pick-up is great when needed thought.

Bought the Prius 1/16/06 and already have 2k miles. We traded an A6 2.7t manual trans for it so the transition has been interesting to say the least. Very cold weather seems to be keeping the mpg down to 43. We haven't reset the average yet and it reads 42.3. W/ pkg 7 we've been thoroughly entertained. Great NAV, Bluetooth, JBL audio. Kind of hard getting used to the front drive stability control and WATCH OUT if you have to back down an icy driveway - I've slid all the way down ours and into the road twice. The ABS doesn't work when rolling backwards. The 1st time I was taken by surprise but the 2nd I was careful and still couldn't stop it. Still though, we love it.

I traded a 2000 Acura RL, crazy huh, for the mpg, but was concerned about handling and quality-I love to drive. The Prius offers surprisingly good handling, cornering, and acceleration. It's very peppy, and has deceivng speed "feel", so you have to keep glancing at speedometer. Quality in and out is outstanding. I'm 6 ft-180 lbs, and the driver seat is extremely comfortable and supportive, even without power adjustment. Other seating is also comfortable, with plenty or room. Cargo space is limited, but split fold-down rear seats compensate. There are several other storage areas not initially evident-and I don't mean cup holders. I'm averaging 48 mpg on 50/50 local/highway driving.

Bought a Prius, pkg 5, about a month ago. Have 1500 miles, averaging about 43 MPG mixed commuter driving of approx 45 miles a day, half back roads, half highway. Live in New England, so I’m hoping the colder temps is the reason for the lower MPG. Kind of bounces about in heavy wind. Pickup will get you up to highway speed, but it’s no barn burner. Engine very loud under very hard acceleration. Seats are so so on comfort, fronts not bad, but backs need longer bottom cushion. Many blind spots, but can overcome with proper mirror placement. Rear view camera was a great idea.

What's not to love about the Toyota Prius? It's a blast to drive, not in the same way a high performance sports car is, but in it's own unique way. I've found that the instant MPG readout tends to make me want to drive in ways that maximize the MPG's. This results in me driving slower and more in control than I have in years. The advertised EPA MPG ratings are not far off, if you're careful. I've been getting around 50 MPG highway and mid 40's around town. The in-town ratings are lower than advertised so far, but I live in northern Michigan which means I need to run the heat and defrosters constantly. This forces the gasoline engine to run a lot more often which leads to lower MPG's.

The interior is much roomier than my 2006 Corolla. But I'm only getting 40-45 mpg combined city and freeway driving contrary to 51-60 mpg on sticker. I tried using mostly cruise control as suggested by one of the reviewer but the lesser mileage I was getting. Better mileage if driving not more than 60 mph. The ride is a little bit bumpy. Powerful brake is great.

The Prius is a well thought out vehicle. I'm on my second take in 6 weeks. First two tanks averaged 43.5 MPG. This is low due to the fact that I make very short 1-2 mile trips and it's cold in Ohio. Summer should bring the mileage up in the 50's. The car rides very nice and is extremely quiet. It truely is a techie car with the on-board display screen and optional navigation. I'm thrilled with my purchase and would recommend the car to anyone!

I was surprised at how comfortable and fun to drive this beauty is. The acceleration was also very unexpected. It is not a race car, but a fantastic commuter/everyday driver. I drive over 700 miles per week, lots in traffic and this car fills the need - comfort, quality, reliability, and gas mileage. Yes, you pay more for a Hybrid, but HOV lane driving and gas mileage make up for it in my driving pattern (plus low emissions). I have averaged in the 40s for mpg with a new car in the cold of the northeast. I am looking forward to the warm weather to see how high the mileage can go, probably in the low 50 range. All the technology is just icing on a fantastically designed and made vehicle.

Love our Prius and am in the process of purchasing a second! Many comments here about not getting the 60 MPG; of course, EPA ratings are a bit optimistic, but the reason Prius CITY mileage is better than HIGHWAY mileage is that the gas consumption goes to ZERO when you are stopped in traffic or at a light. Averaging in those zeros makes for great mileage overall! It is no slouch on the highway and I get nearly 50 mpg at 70 mph (high 40s, anyway). Makes you feel sorry for those SUV drivers out there!

Purchased one weeks ago, option pkg 5, 2 mi on odo when bought. Live in MA - mileage running between 42-45 mixed backroad/highway (highway @ avg of 68mph). Rear camera helps, but limited at night in low light, and will still need mirrors. Rear seating comfort ok for short trips (2 hours) - front seats more comfortable, but also concerned re: comfort on long trips - don't think they will be good. Interior build seems tight, very quiet ride. Tracks well on roads at both about town, and highway. Easy to park. JBL sound system has nice sound. Keyless system is a nice feature. Came from a Maxima - miss the pickup and comfort features, but love the MPG's.

Also, the air bag alarm goes off if I place my briefcase on the passenger seat, it thinks I put a small child there without a seatbelt, I guess. Another anoyance is the open door light, it doesn't tell you which door. Even my old 1977 Honda accord did that! But, the backup video is useful, keeps me from running over my cats, and, overall, in spite of the annoyances, I am very happy with the car.

Very happy with our Prius. The mileage is not eactly 60 miles per gallon, but have been getting 50-52 regularly. I hear people complain about this sometimes, but seems rather nit-picky. I'm sure if you told me last year that I could get 50 miles per gallon, I would have been estactic.

My 2005 Prius was lost in Hurricane Katrina. I had to have a 2006. Current mileage, est. 800. For my 9 or 8 ratings, I will explain. Comfort - I feel the driver's seat could be a little bigger. Fuel economy, I am on my 3rd tank of gas and average for first 2 tanks was 48.2 mpg. My 2005 got 50 or better. Fun to drive? yes, but I am not an expressway lover so I stick to the back roads. However, it keeps up with no problem on the Interstate. Interior design, only one problem, often when I shut the car off by putting in park, my hand hits the pwr button for the radio then when I start the car for next trip, the radio blares unexpectedly. Favorite new feature? The camera display when in reverse. luvit

Purchased a new Prius 06, love it, I am 6ft 5in and 300 lbs fit better then the Accord, Civic, Camry or Corolla. Excellent features, fit and finish, was really surprised on the passing power. I was driving a Chevy 1500 HD with 300 hp engine so was used to power. But this vehicle did just great. Drove it back had to go up the Grapevine in CA, no problem maintained 70MPH. Just love all the technical features, i.e. rear view camera, Bluetooth, navigation system, power info.

Very impressive vehicle. Well made very refined. We were drawn to this vehicle because of the fuel economy and the 06 tax credit of 3150. Very peppy car lots of power. Handling very sure. Ride smooth with the characteristics of a smaller sedan, some road bumps felt. We bought the top of the line model with the GPS and leather seat and trim. Epa estimates on fuel economy are way off as they are on most vehicles. We are getting 41 mpg (only 470 total miles so far) but will improve. All told we are extremely happy with our purchase and would recommend this vehicle to anyone. Hope this review helps. Bill & Nancy

Prior car was a mid-size SUV. Absolutely no problem with the difference in size. The Prius has plenty of pep, is comfortable and handles extremely well.Do not feel that I am in a small car. I do mostly "city" driving and have been getting 40 plus mpg! Looking out the back window takes some time to get accustomed to.

Go figure, it figures.

Well, it's all true...great room, great comfort, and yes... great mileage. Roomy inside, with side airbags for safety. The hybrid system has performed flawlessly. I have been averaging about 52 MPG thus far. I will be using the new, tried and true, Pulse and Glide technique used by other Prius customers to get very high MPG in the city. The 06 has a revised dash, headlights and taillights, as well as better seats. I did not wait one day to own this car. The tax credit, and free HOV lane use, are just icing on the cake for this San Diego, CA owner.

I recently purchased a 2006 Toyota Prius. I am very impressed so far. I am getting over 50 MPG in combined highway and city driving. The car has enough power to get up to speed quickly. It's lots of fun to watch the energy use display and to try to optimize fuel consumption. So far this car has exceeded my expectations.

It's great but....

Of course the mileage is not the 60mph advertised- more like 42mph. The rear window is very difficult to see out of- must always use side mirrors. And the phone charger is so far from the driver's side I can't use the phone and charge it at the same time. Otherwise, it's all it's cracked up to be...

Quite responsive. Enjoyed the smooth take off with the absence of shifting quite noticable. Plenty of snap for passing, especially considering only a 1.5 liter. Breaking and cornering very nice... smooth. At first thought the small steering wheel felt strange but now enjoy the extra room it facilitates along with ease of control.

Don't know how they did it

I wish I knew how they got 60mpg. We drove from South Florida to central New Hampshire and back up and down the Smoky Mountains, on freeways, small towns, fully loaded (by the way this car holds tons of stuff) in cool-cold weather, in high heat, with and w/o a/c during the gas shortage. travelled 3100 mi---paid $210 for gas the entire month we were gone! Still, mph for the month was 44.6 We use cruise control as much as possible, everything we can think of--still cant get to the 60 they claim. Great comfort, great bells and whistles. Love the car.

Great Car!

If you want the most bang for your buck, this is the car I would recommend. I purchased the car with the cheapest package (base Model) and it comes with great features. Nothing to complain. I average about 45 MPG and be able to drive about 450 miles per tank. Great for commuting. Being able to use the steering wheel to control the A/C and radio is a uge bonus. There are only 2 things that I do not like. One is the power, a little harsh on steep hills and the other will be the stereo. The speakers aren't that very good on the base model. Well those are just my small complaints. I hope all of you enjoy the car as much as I do. Be careful in parking lots since pedestrians cannot hear you

Love it.

Love it. Drives like a champ. Great gas mileage. I was a little skeptical of hybrids, but I love this car. More room than I thought.
