Hello Guys. For those who have the hard shift problems of your transmission. The fix is about $65. Find shifter kit on eBay. Watch YouTube video on how to fix the 3 selenoids and your car will be running again smoothly. Average time 3-4 hrs. Do take apart the valve assembly because it's only the selenoids. This is a problem from not changing the transmission fluids. You will need mechanical knowledge to do this fix. Hope this helps.

I bought my car last year in November, a 2006 Maxima. With just a little over 100,000 miles on it.. And only 2days after I purchased it, the transmission started to slip. Cause a massive jerk when I put the car into drive. I have taken to several dealerships and shops to have it tested and everyone keeps telling me that there's absolutely nothing wrong with my car. It had an "as is" sign in it so they would not take it back. It has been nothing but a headache since I bought the car. And it still jerks very hard. My Altima is a much better car in my opinion. And much more reliable.. So, I'm stuck with a 10,000 dollar car that runs like crap!!

First time car buyer SORRY I DID IT!

I've read the reviews here and my car is no different. I just bought my car three days ago with 80,000 on it I test drove the car it drove beautifully but before I could get I noticed the trans slipping. I took it back to dealer just to find out that indeed it has a transmission problem....now what do I do?

I bought a 2006 Nissan Maxima in 2008 with low miles from a dealership. By the time it hit 72,000 miles, the transmission was jerking. I called the dealer who said the warranty was up, so they could not help me. What? R U kidding? I've had two Maximas a 1998 and a 1999 that performed well over 200k miles. I called headquarters who told me to get a diagnosis from Nissan service only which costs $130. Service rep said I need another tranny which would cost $3,000's . that's for a rebuilt transmission. Waiting for headquarters to take action.

I love my Nissan Maxima 2006

I bought this car 7 years ago. It has been so good to me. Thank God I have no problems with mine. I take good care of my car. I literally pray before I get a car and prayed that my Nissan will not give me major problems. Till this day I still have it. Has not given me major problems and i truly love it! Love the inside and out! I have driven this car far places, drives great. Overall its the best car I have ever own.

Never thought I would get stranded in a Nissan

Was searching for a reliable car to get me through college. Bought this car hoping it would do the job. It ran great for 3 weeks untill the transmission went out while driving. Had to pull over and get the car towed home. Now im stuck far from home with basically no transportation. Im getting quotes from $2.5-3.5k on transmision rebuilds. What a nightmare. do not buy this car unless you get the manual one.

I brought this car brand new in 2006. Around 40,000 miles the transmission started to slip. I called the dealership and of course they said there are no issues with the transmission, this is the first time we've heard of this, yeah right. Called 1-800-Nissan but they weren't any help either. I had all my service records but I just didn't get the car serviced at the dealership so they said there was nothing they could do since the dealership didn't service the car. 82000 miles in rush hour traffic the transmission goes completely out. The car was towed to the dealership who gave me a discount and put in a new transmission for $3,200.

To many repairs in a short time.

The engine is great. The equipment attached to it is weak. I have had to replace the transmission, the computer box, the power steering pressure hose, the power steering box the radio, the power attachments for cellphone hookup do not work, The sunroof is faulty, works when it wants too. The time waiting for parts to repair is unbelieveable. The windows are not made to keep out the road noise. this car has been in the shop more times than my 1999 Durango which has 274000 miles. and is More reliable than my 2006 Max with 164000 miles. I have owned an 1989 Maxima, and the clutch kept going out. It is in the shop now for a new steering unit. I cannot make my money without it. I am going out to buy another car. It will not be a Nissan. I would not recommend it unless it is a truck.

Have the manual transmission and have just loved this car for 7 years. Unfortunately Nissan had some major transmission issues. My car had the entire engine, transmission and cats replaced under warrantee just before it expired. Time to get rid of the car cause I anticipate the issues resurfacing. It has been a great sport sedan with the power and acceleration being the best features. The engine is silky smooth.

As others have stated - there is an inherent transmission problem with the '06 Maxima and other years as well. At 62k miles my transmission started to slip and the car jerked when shifting. I brought my car to a local transmission shop and they told me this is a common problem with Nissan vehicles. On their suggestion, I opened a case with Nissan customer affairs. They instructed me to bring it to the dealership for inspection and guess what? My car needs a new valve body and transmission for an estimated cost of $6,000 - a gross over estimate! Nissan contacted me to say they would offer no assistance. Everyone with a similar problem must join the class action suit underway!

So, like everyone else that seems to be writing reviews, my 2006 Maxima had transmission issues. I'll start at the beginning (which wasn't long ago). I bought the car for $12,000 from a used car dealership less than six months ago with 117,000 miles. I loved the car. It was one of the nicest cars I ever bought. I also bought a 2002 Altima brand new (loved it). Two weeks ago the transmission started slipping between 2 and 3rd gear and it would downshift when I let up on the gas. Also, the Service Engine Soon light came on. Took it in and low and behold, Transmission was all but gone and the catalytic converter was needing replaced. Out of luck the dealer told me. Traded for a 2010 Chev Impa

I bought my 2006 Maxima with 58K miles on it. Like many others, I started noticing gear shifting (auto trans) at about 98K miles, so I took it to the dealership that honored the warranty before it expired. They recommended I try a transmission flush, before the warranty company comes back and says I neglected to service my vehicle and refuses to pay for the transmission replacement. Which I did and it DID NOT fix the issues I was having (high RPM rev at random speeds, car slamming into gear, jarring forward out of 1st & reverse). Months passed and my car was in and out of the dealership shop trying one thing or another to resolve the problem. Eventually my warranty expired and surprise….I was on my own with repair cost! After several near death experiences due to the jarring and loss of acceleration at high rates of speed….I called a transmission shop that was recommended to me. Within 2 minutes of explaining the issues, he said “it’s not your transmission….it’s the Valve Body”. He explained to me that the transmissions are pretty solid (used in several models) and that the valve body is the “electronic brain” of the transmission. Even if you replace the transmission (not rebuild it), it will mostly continue to do the same things, since you never fixed the “electronic brain”. So speaking from experience in dealing with the same problems with my 2006 Maxima that many, many others have and are dealing with…DO NOT replace or rebuild your transmission and waste $5000 before you try the least expensive and most likely the cause of the issues (VALVE BODY), for $1500.00!! 

A week after buying this car in July '12, I took it back, since it had been driving badly. After about 15 minutes of driving, the engine would rev to over 4k RPM's and then jerk hard, even slamming me back into my seat. When it did it for my husband, he insisted there was definitely a problem with the tranny. Not slipping, but rather shifting hard. My dealer waited for Nissan to respond, and of course, Nissan refused to participate. So when my dealer offered to put in a re-built tranny, it also turned out to be bad. Now waiting on Nissan rep to come investigate. Disgusted that Nissan makes a car and only stands behind it for a few years. I now wish they would stand in front of it!

Do not buy this car unless you have thousands of dollars for a transmission! It drives fine, until the car really warms up, then of to jerking it goes. The longer you drive the worse it gets. Never drive this car in stop-n-go traffic, you are guaranteed an accident. I know it's stylish and sexy but please stay away.

Was driving a '01 Accord, got bored and wanted a change. So I purchased this car on St. Pattys Day in '09 with 57xxx miles on it. Got a good deal on the car. At first I loved my new car. But then it changed. QUICK. I heard of the transmission problems but figured that it wouldn't happen to me. Well it did. Shortly after that I had to replace all 4 tires 2 times. With 18'' factory tires aren't going to be cheap. Add the Z rating, now tires won't last long at all. After the tires came the headlights. $200 for all the lights up front to be changed. Next was the struts, shocks, bearings ect. $1200 later. Now I am in need to replace the timing belt. Car is a money pit.

I bought this car used from my father about 3 month ago. The dealers were trying to fleece him on trade in value for a new vehicle. My family was growing and I needed a larger second vehicle. I was looking for a larger sedan with safety and reliability, but with some HP and was fun to drive. After looking at the new sedans (2010-2012) on the market I could not find a vehicle that had all of the features of the 2006 Maxima and under 25K. I was aware of the transmissions problems of the Maxima, fortunately, I knew the history of this Maxima and the transmission has not been a problem. If worse comes to worse, I'll be out 3K instead of 25K+ price tag of new vehicle with less quality.

One of the best cars on the market.

It's a nice car guys. The neighbors love it, Strangers love it,people see it and they want to take it home. People with more expensive cars love it. A 80 year man looked at me and said that's a bad mama jama. Even though this generation of Maxima is a great car it has it's flaws but most of you will come to find this car is very reliable and has much better reliability then 90% of the vehicles on the market it wont leave you stranded.

Thanks Nissan for the experience.........NEVER AGAIN!

I loved this car, still do, but this whole jerking, hard shifting between gears is upsetting. I just got to 61,000 miles!!! This is a poorly built transmission, and I have seen hundreds of consumer complaints about this issue. The turning radius sucks big time. The look of the vehicle is fierce and awesome. I love sporty, masculine looking cars and the Maxima has that going for it. I could never see my hubbie driving my old Honda CRV. I pray Nissan will reach out to us soon and repair a damaged relationship with its 2004-2006 Maxima owners w/tranny issues. I've already made up my mind to trade it in for the ACCORD CROSSTOUR and have discouraged others from the Maxima as well.

I have a 2006 Maxima w/ 104K miles that is having the same jerking issues. In Aug 2011, the car lurched and jumped so bad in traffic while slowing down. It also happens whenever I am pulling from a stop light or reversing. This issue continued and sometime I have to stop the car because I thought I was going to get into an accident. Since this appears after the car is driven for about 15 minutes, I will let the car sit for a while before I drive it again. It will drive fine for a few miles and start lurching again. I took the car to our local Nissan dealer and needed to pay $105 for an inspection. I tried to tell them the prob. but they acted they didnt what i was saying! Dont buy Nissan

I have a 2006 Nissian Maxima and Ive been had this car for about 4 years now, I start experiencing problems with it last year after my warranty was up. First of all the AC went out and begun to blow hot air and costed me over $300 to get fixed then about January when I reached about 72,000 miles my car began to Jerk and take about 4-5 seconds to go into drive, reverse, etc. So I took it to the Nissan dealer and had them do a dianostic check about 3 times and they told me nothing was wrong so I got my transmission serviced around March and the jerking stopped and now it has started back and now my transmission has gone out and is costing me about $3,000 to get fixed. We purchased our 2006 Maxima with about 60K miles on it and has been a dream. The car drives amazing, has plenty of luxury features and proves to be a good sedan. A few reviews have noted issues but those seem relatively normal for a vehicle with 100K miles or more. I will say this, the vehicle is Nissan's flagship so it will cost you more to operate. Premium sedans require premium maintenance. Chances are if you complain about the cost of repair, you probably cannot afford this vehicle. Whenever you have a performance vehicle, you will likely put it to the test thus be prepared to service it as you would any other sports car. We personally have had no repair issues other than normal items.

I bought my 2006 Maxima slightly used in late 2006 with 15k miles on it. Everything was great for the first couple of years. Did go through two sets of tires though. At 72k miles the A/C began blowing hot air. A couple of months later, the transmission went out (hard shift between gears). A couple months after that a fuel leak and cracked motor mounts. The good news is I'm now at 80k and am just replacing the brakes. There is also a hollow metal sound coming from the car. Fortunately I bought a great extended warranty (that expires in Nov.) that has picked up everything but the A/C. Come Dec. I will likely get rid of the car since it's too expensive to repair.

Nissan won't do anything, even though these are common problems! I've put thousands of dollars into this car. I loved it when I bought it and I thought I'd be a Nissan owner for life, but now I know I'll never purchase another one!! This was so not worth the money, I'm very disappointed.

1st thing first,....I bought this car brand new and had no problems UNTIL my 4th year (2010). The AC unit went out ($897),....HID lights turned pink and went out ($426) and now........(infamous drumroll),..........the transmission is bad, LOL! No, its not funny at all and my head is still spinning to the tune of $2500 repair bill that was freshly printed today. WOW is all I can say. On my way back from the shop,..this guy in traffic asked me if the car was good (as he's picking one up this week), I told him "nah man this car is a piece of junk, DON'T DO IT! 111k miles, 13 more payments and transmission problems are all I have to show for this car!

Amazing to read all of the posts with similar issues. The tires wear out quickly, AC is out, headlight replacement costs over $100 and now the transmission goes! 120K on this car and replacing the tranny, hope to get another year or two out of it. Was good for the first two years, then the AC started blowing hot air, had high pressure line replaced under warranty. A year later the same thing happened, this time the low pressure AC line, and out of warranty. The hose and metal crimps seemed to have failed, replacement hose was more supple than original hose. After 4.5 years and 79,000 miles the transmission has started slipping between 2nd and 3rd gear, with no check engine light on. Taking it to the dealer for diagnosis in a couple of days. Purchased mechanical breakdown insurance (MBI) from credit union, which is good for 4 more months, so I hope it will be covered.

The gas mileage isn't fabulous, but for a car with this much zip, it's quite good. Yeah, the turning radius isn't great, and there is some torque steer, but what car doesn't have one thing worth changing. I wanted a performance sedan and I got one. I have friends with '10 Hemi (390 HP) Rams that can't pull away from me. What more can you want in a 4 DOOR SEDAN. Don't forget, it's a family car!

We purchased our Maxima in March 2006. I commute 100 miles each day, so we have put a lot of miles on this car; currently just over 100,000. The only thing I have had done is replace the tires two times, oil change, and replaced both headlight bulbs. Unfortunately, most people will need to have the dealer replace the headlight bulb. My wife and I both love driving this car!

We purchased a loaded se and owned for almost 2 years. Purchased used in 2008 with 26k on the odometer. Cost was $20k out door with fl tax (orig. Sticker was over $34k. Whoa). Has almost every option except dvd/nav. Here is a good car that could have been great. While dependable, it has it quirks. Fast car, but terrible torque steer. Nice interior, but seats need more padding. Trips over 1.5 hours and your bottom is sore. Great styling, but bad turning radius. Weird cloth substance on dash/doors. What is up with that? Leather would have been perfect. All in all, a sharp looking, dependable car that is good on gas. No maintenance issues in 2 years. No rattles, leaks, creaks etc.

Bought my Max brand new and added the spoiler. It had the sporty feel I wanted and the practicality of a 4Dr sedan. In 4 years never had to do a thing expect routine maint and a new set of tires. Loved the 18" upgraded rims. And if you resit the temptation to drive it at the real speeds this sweetheart will go I got 28-30 mpg on the hwy. Not so go in city. Must use the cruise control on this car or you will find yourself in some trouble in no time.

I bought this car brand new thinking that like my last vehicle it would less me at least 140,000 miles without fixing anything major, so in 2 years my air condition went down, following winter something happened with my unt brakes, and now my transmission start acting up don't know whats the problem, i hope this car will get a recall it seems a lot of people have the same problem and after spending a good buck for this car i expect also a better performance I would never buy Nissan again unless there is a 100,000 warrant since i don't trust them anymore,

Bought my car in Jan.2007, very excited about finally owning a Maxima, just recently my transmission went out, struts are horrible and the car is very noisy, has knocking sounds under the car that the dealer can't figure out the problem, which is strange how they can figure out the major expensive stuff! The good things are the comfort and space...very good car to travel in and alot of trunk space. The car has very good pick up. The tires are very expensive and wear easily for some reason the dealer can't explain this either. Nice stereo system and speakers. Another complaint is this car has no change holder, 2 cup holders but no where to store change. Overall it's a nice car.

I bought my car 4/06. since then i have replaced struts, ac compressor, tie rods, head lights. knocking sound on right and the service men at nissan cant figure out what it is. constantly being aligned. front grill chipped up. it is very sporty and fun to drive but cant enjoy the drive for having to replace tires so often which are way to expensive. a headlamp cost me $186. oh not to mention the motor mounts keep breaking. guess you can say i got a lemon too. will never ever buy another one. im maxed out on funds keeping this junk running!

I owned my Nissan for 4 yrs. ABSOLUTELY loved it! I purchased a LOADED SE model & can't complain too much about it. The only down side is the turning radius sucked. As far as reliability, ride, comfort, & performance it was awesome. It set standards that spoiled me that other manufactures don't include in options (heated steering wheel). Although window sticker stated 27 MPG, mine got 25-26 MPG (not too bad - and I don't putt putt around). I recently totaled it, so SAFETY was GREAT! When side air bags deployed no smell or gas filled the interior like others do. This was one of my favorite make/models to own. I will definitely miss this car!

I got this car from an auction. It drives well, Spacious and the features are comparable to that of an E-class. I bought this car because it was the right balance between a luxury and an everyday car. The car looks great especially with the 18" chrome with black leather interior on black ext. It would have been nice if they got rid of the handbrake, included an mp3 player with AUX, an automatic trunk shut system. Very noisy if music not on blast, suspension is a bit rough bt I love this car. And dnt regret one bit! If you are looking at buying this car, go all out, and get all options other than that get an ALTIMA..

I have owned many cars, M3, G35, and a CLK430, all of which were 2 door sport cars, but this time around I decided to go with something more logical for college. This car is a love hate relationship, I love that I can tote around 5 friends comfortably with a truck full of junk. But I hate the way it drives when I am alone, it's quick for its size, but tire spin, turning radius, and handling are lacking majorly. Also is lacking with the toys, all my last cars have little nooks and crannys with something cool, this car is plain jane. Though, it is a great car for a family, or if you need something for easy city driving. But for fun, it's not so great.

No turning radius at all, caused me some very sticky moments in u-turn type scenarios. Rear end eats tires for lunch >25000. Nissan said I was drifting based on tread wear. It does drift everytime you hit a bump. At 43 years old it has been quite some time since I spun out in the corners, memories of my '74 Nova in high school! Will not stay in alignment. Runs like a raped ape. Out run must on road but starts to shake at higher speeds. 6 speed manual/automatic is a blast but gas mileage suffers, < 20MPG in town. Interior quality very disappointing. 12 volt power port cover on console a joke compared to Altima set up. Very Noisy vehicle. Any one that rides on back has to yell to say anything

I bought this 2006 Maxima SL as a used car in 2009. It was a lease turn-in with only 11,000 miles on it and bought it from a dealer for only $19,800. After driving it for 2 months now, I'm really impressed with it and have nothing negative to say. I have not seen or experienced some of the problems that other reviewers are reporting, so maybe they just got lemons. I commute about 35 miles a day, both stop and go traffic and highways, and get a very satisfied 23.7 mpg. The drive is smooth and the engine is powerful, not to mention quiet. It's a fun car to drive! I love the interior, with the leather seats and sky view roof. This is my second Nissan and would buy again no problem.

Way more features than what I'm used to (had 4 basic VW Jettas). Nothing broke yet. turning radius is joke - my '99 Yukon turns much sharper. Like the sporty feel but is a little rough over bumps. lacks MP3 player access port. trunk is spacious enough for two. Next car might have to be the Z.

After owning 5 Maximas (1990, 1991, 2001, 2003, and 2006) I am sadly looking in other directions. I have loved every aspect of the previous models but the 2006 has put me off. My favorite aspect of the Maxima was the joy in driving it. It's fast and responsive and fun to drive. Unfortunately, the build quality of the '06 is very poor. I had to replace tires at 36000 miles, battery at 46000, brakes and rotors at 50,000, headlight ($285) at 51000, and the top of the adjustable arm rest came off which the dealer wanted $485 to replace. All of these problems are common as I have a friend who also owns an 06 and has had similar repairs.

I've had the car for 3 years (since new) and love to drive it. The only problem is that the darn steering wheel has had a shimmy since I test drove it. I didn't think much of it and asked them to check the tire balance before I took delivery. Big mistake. 3 years and more than 15 attempts to get it fixed and it still shakes. Nissan mechanics don't have a clue why. Nissan has given up on trying to fix it and I've given up trying to get it fixed. Luckily it's a lease and it'll be their problem next month. It's too bad, my family has been loyal to Nissan since 1985, not any more...

No unplanned maintenance. NONE. I have 30K miles on it and still on original tires and brakes. I can't over-emphasize how reliable this car has been. Engine power is excellent, but too much for the tires and suspension of the SL. So easy to spin tires and the body lean is a bit much under hard cornering. I was hoping for a cross between prior cars 350Z and Lexus GS300, and maybe should've got a MaxSE.

I bought this car off of the showroom floor in Jan of 2008. I love, love, love my Maxima! Exceptional handling (can take a 30 MPH exit ramp at 70 MPH), acceleration is comparable to a V8, sometimes a bit scary... the power is underestimated. The exterior of the car screams "HOT". Sporty, low profile high performance ride. I took an 11 hour trip in this car and really enjoyed the ride, I averaged 29 MPG with a fully loaded trunk. I love the body style and was a little sad to see Nissan succumb to a Camry look for 2009. Hope the new body style grows on me because I would really like to be a Maxima-lifer!

I really wanted to love it.

Bought this car new since family had good luck with older Maximas in the late 90s but this one has been a disappointment. CD changer replaced 3 times for freezing up, lumbar support dead twice, center console arm support snapped, grille replaced for paint chipping, paint in general isn't great and now fighting with Nissan cause clutch and flywheel failed. Mechanics say its a defect but Nissan says its regular wear and tear. Funny how that works. BBB to the rescue!!! I do like driving this car but its put a sour taste in my mouth especially with how Nissan corporate treats its customers and just worrying about when I'll be sitting in service again. I think I just got a dud.

Bought this car used, with 15k miles on it. I had a previous Maxima (96) that I drove for 8 years. This is a different car, nice, good visibility and good handling. Quiet and very powerful engine (265 Hp). I wish it had a 6 speed manual but Nissan does not make enough of. I am at 55k miles, and love it. Fuel economy unpaired, if you drive it on the hwy for this size of engine (29-30 m/gl and 20-22 in the city). Always I get the best fuel because this car loves it. At 37k the front light bulb died and service wanted to charge me over $160.00+tx. I could not believe it, but thanks to e-bay I was able to replace it for $36.00 plus my time. Consider maintenance cost when you buying this car.

One of my favorite features - a heated steering wheel. (I live in the Midwest.) I've had just regular maintenance and no mechanical issues at all. I am still trying to decide if I like this car. I do know that I liked my 97 Maxima (234k miles) so much better. I don't like the "automatic" rear view mirror. It does not make the lights from behind seem any less bright. There does not seem to be as much head room in this Maxima compared to the 97. Either that, or the seat does not adjust low enough. I feel like my head is touching on the roof. The center console has way more buttons than anyone needs, 43 to be exact! Every time I turn the heat on the a/c comes on. Why is that? I do like the sportiness and look of the car. It drives nice and is quick to respond. They just have some design flaws. I would take the 97 anyday!

I wanted a car with plenty of interior space - but still a sporty look. No granny car for me! I fell in love with the Maxima when I test drove it the first time in April, before the 07s came out. Decided to shop around and I ended up coming back. Was going to get an 07, but got a great deal on the 06. CVT and keyless start only diffs. I get up to 34 mpg on hwy - bonus! I love the handling and living in a remote state with lots of highway driving, I love the get up and go when I pass. This car is the most fun to drive, it's sporty yet luxurious. It's exactly what I was looking for. Wish I would have got the navigation system, otherwise I'd say it's the perfect car for me.

Put 33k on my 2006 Maxima in 14 months and it is a decent car. Good performance, nice to look at, good highway mileage, stereo and bluetooth are excellent, and it's a big car. However, I've had the brakes done twice (11k and 26k), The lumbar in the seat broke, 2nd gear a little notchy when cold, and AC stopped blowing real cold air and dealership says it's fine. Couple of annoying rattles in dash. My biggest complaint is seat comfort. No lumbar or upper back support compared to other "Sport" sedans. I drive 30k miles per year at least and my back is broke after a 300 mile drive. Back was never sore in my 2004 acura TL. So... going back to Acura or step-up to lexus/infiniti.

The first Nissan purchased ever. Had a Jeep Gr. Cherokee V8 before so I wasn't as impressed as most were with the power. OEM tires stink - expensive and noisy. No traction up inclined snowy driveways - wheels spin easily which is probably why it's even hard to drive up ramps for oil changes. I've got a noise coming from the engine (30K miles) that sounds like a bad engine bearing, but I have yet to take it in to find out. The cover for the air filter is extremely difficult to reinstall. No major repairs up to this point, so all the little things are not a big deal.

Drove the car off the lot and hit the cruise control when I reached open highway - what a shock. When going down slight inclines, the car experienced extreme surges in power. Never had a car that did that and thought something was wrong. Took it back to the service department and was told that all Maximas do that. I spent $35k for the car and was sick. I never thought to test the cruise control; lesson learned. I haven't owned the car a year yet and am looking to trade.

I started out shopping for an Acura TSX. Hated it. Drove the Maxima and it was love. We recently had to take a LONG, LONG trip and the car's comfort and performance were out of this world. Even at my high altitude and up and down the mountainous road I am still getting up to 30 mpg on highway. I really don't have one bad thing to say about my car. I just love the looks, I love the handling and I love the power.

On the day of the delivery I experienced steering wheel "shimmy" or vibration at all speeds and despite 5 trips to the dealership, some improvement but not complete elimination of the problem. I love the car, the room, the VQ engine (plenty of upgrades...), reliability and this is my 3 maxima. My first is still on the road (a friend drives it now) with over 300000 miles. I really dislike the service I experienced though. And they still promise to fix the issue and I'm still waiting...

This is my 2nd Maxima. I had an '02 SE for over four years. This one soundly beats that one in terms of features, comfort and performance. There are some areas where this one falls way short in comparison though. Mainly, the build quality of the interior stinks. Very cheap. You can really tell where Nissan was pinching pennies. I've had issues with the exterior finish as well. Due to all the squeaks and rattles I'm planning on trading for an '07 Acura TL after keeping this car for only one year.

Purchased this for $25,545, includes 29 oil change services. Tested Avalon (= model would have was over $30,000) and Saturn (top of line at $27,500 not as nice and less performance). Had 1994 with 152,000 reliable miles. Great ride, super Bose and performance. Plush interior.

My wife leased her 2006 Maxima SE 5AT and really enjoys it. We got a great lease deal that was much better than anything else in this class. Overall the car seems great; will know more once we put some miles on the Maxima. The engine, style (both interior and exterior) are very nice, and the features on this car are better than many cars costing $10k more. I recently purchased a 2006 G35 sedan 6MT and it lacks several of the features this car has and costs 10% more. You will not be disappointed with this vehicle.

I took a march 2006 delivery on this Black with dark grey cloth seats Nissan SE as a commuter and 2nd car. The only options were the mats, spoiler and the sunroof. It has been in the shop 3 times to replace the front right struts (it is now Oct. 06). There is a rattling in the steering that the dealer cannot seem to fix. It is fine for straight highway cruising but forget having fun in the twisties. This car get nervous and sloppy real fast. It's a psuedo sports car. While the exteriror styling is beautiful the body panel are soft and thin. Subject to the slightest dings. With the mecahnical problems and the sloppy handling I can't wait to get rid of it.

And this vehicle is great!!! from the purr of the engine to the retractable side view mirrors. Everything is on point. I have no idea why Nissan changed up the bodystyle for the 2007. The wife and I took delivery of our '06 Maxima SL (pearl white, tan leather, and functional sunroof - LOADED) after driving numerous family sedans. Came close to deciding on the '06 Altima (V6) UNTIL we drove the Maxima -- it sold itself! Awesome looks and drives like a dream. Our deal was 2% over invoice, which came out to be approx. $560 over -- very pleased with that deal! Our salesman was never, ever pushy and let us make our own decision about buying a vehicle and the time we took to decide.

Everyone says "What a Sweet Ride!" and they are right. I just bought a Spirited Bronze SL with black interior loaded (no Nav) with everything including Sirius, a wing, wheel locks, floor mats, slash guards for $29,000! What a truly wonderful vehicle. Based on some critic's reviews I was a little skeptical about purchasing this car. The complaints about interior design, torque steer and turning radius are baloney. What an underrated luxury vehicle. I had a 1995 Avalon for 11 yrs and loved it. When I compared/test drove the 2006 Touring Avalon against the Maxima I found it was lacking so many of my 'Favorites Features' listed below (also lacked side molding) that we had to have the MAX!!

I got this car for my wife, but I got to drive it on a 600 mile trip. We averaged 27 mpg city and highway. The Maxima was very comfortable and roomy, trunk space was unbeliveable. The two kids had enough room in the back to make their own little nest without touching each other. I drive a 95 Q45 and the Maxima has nearly all the same features except for the V8, didn't miss it.

I'm a longtime Nissan buyer and owned a few older Nissan maximas, which all where great to drive. The 5th generation Maxima is all that you could hope for in a car. I love the maximas power, options, sat radio, nav, bluetooth, handling and style. For the money you get a great deal. If you want more, then Infiniti is the way to go. A side note Nissan changes body style very often so when 6th generation maxima comes out you will lose some value in your car if you pop in and out of cars. But the maxima 2006 is a great buy and a good long term car. So if you go to Nissan test drive a Maxima and I bet it will be hard to leave the dealership without one. Stay Nissan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I commute over an hour each way every day and liked the performance, mileage and range of this car. It has lots of zip in traffic and motors along at 80 with no problem. The exterior styling is distictive and the interior is big enough for a family of 5 on the rare occasions when the family comes along. My only serious complaint is the width and rigidity of the front bucket seats. I find that the little wings on the side of the seat are rock hard and they are putting my leg to sleep, especially on the right side. The problem didn't show itself until I had been driving for about a month and now I'm regretting the purchase.

The dash board and accessories are a pleasure to see and use. The engine has a sufficient am't of HP. Engine design is very nice and clean. When driving at higher speeds, the ride is very smooth. I spent months researching a handful of vehicles. I was conflicted regarding cost vs true value between Nissan Maxima SE & Infiniti G35 and am very happy with my Black on Black Maxima; which turns heads. Driving is flat out fun with a very "torquey" yet smooth engine & transmission pairing. The black interior "matches up" better with the factory brushed steel interior trim and looks "integrated" overall compared to other interior colors. The interior lighting at night, on black, is awesome and detailed as almost every switch has an amber light for 2006. It doesn't lack for technology and features, many of which go unspoken on the nissan.com site. HID is great, has fog lamps, auto set.

This is my 3rd Max, I trade every year. Its the best bang for your buck if you want a fast, well appointed sports sedan. Great acceleration, and a tight, yet smooth ride in a luxury sedan. The SE with low profile tires handles a little better (my car last year), but the SL's ride is smoother without giving up too much in the handling department. You really notice this difference at speeds over 90. The interior of the SL is very well done and comparable to more expensive sports sedans. The SE interior is more mundane lacking the flash of an SL. Quality is very good. I've had no problems except of a small rattle in the SE I had last year. I'll buy another one next year.

I have truly been disaapointed with this vehicle. I have found that my steering wheel shakes and shimmies when I reach 60 mph. The engine is loud and revs real high. I have taken it back to the dealership and they have advised that this is normal, and there is nothing they can do. Also, just recently noticed a rattle in the front dash. I have taken the car to the service department four times without any luck. This is the first Nissan I have purchased, and at this rate I'm sure it may be the last. My previous vehicles have been Hondas, and I think I should have stucked with them, because this Maxima was truly a mistake.

However, I cannot get the dealer/Nissan to solve one problem: the bluetooth volume drops to suddenly and returns at random. The dealer has not been able to fis it to date. They have replaced the radio but the problem persists. Additionally, the front two right speakers stoped working all of the sudden this weekend. Also, when I discovered one week after I got the car that the lsft retractable side mirror was not working. Too many problems for a new car. They seem like assembly/production problems.

I did alot of research, even tried to look at the American cars, but it everyone in America has the 300m. Thus I decided to break it down to two final cars. I Looked at the Avalon before I purchased the Maxima SL, got the Onyx exterior and black interior. The Maxima was a far better choice than the Avalon. Got the SL with the drivers pref.pkg. The car rides great, and yes I did notice the turning radius issue that was discussed on this site and yes it begs for improvement. But hey I have yet to find the perfect car that will make everyone perfectly happy. I like the car a whole lot, and was happy to trade in my 04 Camry for it. The car is attractive and roomy. The engine is very peppy. But there are some things that disappoint me. The Owner's Manual is not well written and is confusing in places. The controls for heating and cooling are a total mystery. Things happen that I would not want to happen such as the AC turing on ecven though it's 30 degrees outside. The big possible problem is that sometimes on braking the car swerves. I feel the steering wheel twist in my hands. The service advisor at the dealership says this is due to the 18" wheels and is uncorrectable. I cannot accept that proposition.

I traded my 2004 Chrysler 300 touring on a new Maxima. Although the 300 drove nice. It had bad blind spots and every time I drove it I felt like an old man(not to mention 3 repair trips already). On one nice Saturday I stopped at the Nissan dealer and drove The Maxima. I didn't want to give the keys back. One week later I had a new car in my driveway and am enjoying it. I bought the 300 because it was the "in" car. That was a big expensive mistake. The Maxima is the true 4 door sports car.

This is the 4th Maxima I have owned. It is by far the the most sporty. I compared all the other cars (TL, Accord, Camry, Avalon, G35) and came back to the Maxima. It has the best engine and features for the money. My last Maxima, I had to replace the oxygen sensor and alternator although it had low miles. Even with a couple of repairs factored in I come out ahead of the other cars. I've had no problems with my 2006 SL and really like all the features including Bluetooth, which comes with the driver preferred pkg. This car drives excellent with great power and a nice little growl from the engine! Steve Hipshin with Tom Peacock in Houston is the best salesperson- great price and service.

Loving it!

My husband and I are preparing for our first child so we needed a family car. I still have my Mitz 3000GT but you can't drive kids around it that. Anyway, my husband is 6'5 and he loves the room the car offers. He does not feel boxed in at all. I like that fact that it handles like my 3000 but gives me more room. We were debating between this car and the Chrylser 300 but for the price and features the Maxima came out on top. Great car!!!!!!

I had a Toyota and wanted something little more sytlish and fun. I purchased the 2006 Nissan SL Maxima. It's not only a family car, but it's also sexy and fun without the kids.

I have driven Nissan's for 15 years....Pathfinders, 300ZX, Altima, and now a new Maxima..what a dream. Handles like a sportscar, but appointed and comfortable like a luxury sedan. While I miss a manual shift, the tip-tonic is fun, although it is easier just to use the drive selection in auto. Decent mileage, large tank and regular gas make it very affordable to run for this type of car.

I compared the Maxima, Acura TL, Accord, and G35. It came down to the Maxima and TL. For a comparably equipped car, the TL was about $2000 more. I loved the way of them drove, so I picked the Maxima becuase it was a little bit more roomy and cheaper. I really like this car. The power and luxury (I got all the bells and whistles) combo is great. I have had no initial quality problems and don't expect to have any. I find this car to be a great highway cruiser, but the real fun is how it performs on winding back roads. The acceleration, handling and braking are excellent. I don't see what all the fuss is about torque steer. 265 hp with front wheel drive is pushing the limits (but fun)

In the past I have owned two Nissan Maxima's. I was quite dissapointed in the previous models. The power of the Maxima reminds me of the 300m which I traded in for the Maxima. Quite pleased with handling style and performance

this is a great car

I had planned to buy an SUV but the salesman told me that I would be missing out if I didn't try driving a Maxima. I told him I wasn't interested, but my wife said why not. So we jumped in and took it for drive. WOW!! I was impressed! We drove back to the dealer and I told them there was a shimmy in the steering wheel. Two days later they called and said they found a bad flat spot on one tire and fixed it. We went back for a second test drive; kept it over night and decided to buy it. I never thought I would ever purchase a 4-door car again until I drove the Maxima. What a fantastic vehicle Nissan has made. Speaking of performance, I'm a retired Navy Pilot; I know about Performance!

This car is so much fun to drive. With that said, we have had so many problems with it. The sunroof took 7 tries to repair, the A/C went out, struts replaced, paint is chipping off rear view mirror on the garage door button, rotors are shot, front dash rattles, steering column gets stuck in the upright position, and today my check engine soon light came on. I baby this car and I am a very mild driver. Maybe I just got a lemon, but we are trading it for an Infiniti G35x because they seem to be getting much better reviews. Good luck if you purchase this this vehicle. Hope yours won't be a lemon. I loved driving it, too bad it spends just as much time in the shop as it does on the road. :-(
