My rating for this review is based on the vehicle itself. It is reliable and has never broken down. It is also very comfortable and I can actually see over the steering wheel! (I'm only 5'). I bought it brand new in Aug. 2006 and have regular maintenance and check-ups at my local lube center. I never go to the dealer (they're overpriced). It currently has 61K miles. Don't get me wrong, I love my Santa Fe! But I can't stand Hyundai's inability to cover things that they claim are covered by the warranty. At about 45K my SF wouldn't pass emissions. That was May 2014. I called the dealer because, according to the warranty, it was suppose to be covered for 8 yrs. or 80K for the emissions. It was just under the 8 yr mark. Dealer told me it's not covered, without even asking me to come in to look at it! So I called the 800 number. They gave me the same bs! I had it fixed, Cost 410$. The very next morning the alternator went out as I was backing out of my driveway. Cost me another 400$. I think the mechanic did something to it. The only other thing was at about 54K my SF was hard to steer so I checked the power steering fluid and it was empty. As it turned out, it needed a new hose. It only cost me 94$ for the part and my brother put it on for me. He had a hard time getting to it as it was up behind the engine.

This is a fun vehicle to drive with great utility

Believe it or not, in 4 years I have put 160,000 on this vehicle and it's rock solid. No issues whatsoever. No power loss, nothing. All I've done is regular oil changes (synthetic) and the up-scale filters. I have changed the front rotors once. This vehicle is just a dream and should be considered by all who are in for a reliable used. Forget the Japanese, they are just too much money for nothing. They don't even look good. I guess people are noting that in a hurry now. The Santa Fe is already the largest selling import SUV in Canada. Good job Hyundai. My next vehicle would also be a Hyundai. The Veracruz or if they come up with a larger SUV then that'd be it.

I bought the Santa Fe in 2006, within a couple of months I was in having the Cruise control switch replaced and a year later I started having problems with the down shifting to 3rd. They changed out a sensor. In the winter of 09 it didn't want to go into drive when cold brought it in. Couldn't duplicate so there was "nothing wrong". Still having problem. On 4/29/10 the shifting problems started again, so I brought the car back into the shop to have them say "nothing wrong" so they reset the computer. So I picked up my car and two days later I was stuck in the parking lot not able to go anywhere. Lets say it is in the shop waiting approval for new transmission!

Can't get rid of it....

I bought my first HY back in July of 2009. For $12K I got 2006 HY SF GLS 2.7 V6 2WD with 25K miles. Since then I have put 10K miles on it. This car has so far exceeded my expectations. As a guy, I have never fallen in love with exterior of the old style SF, but my wife did and since the car was mainly for her I relented. Gas Mileage is better than the Tahoe and even my current 2003 V6 Ford F150. To be honest, I tried very much to rationally to find a valid reason to upgrade to a newer vehicle with all the recent deals, but for what we paid for and how surprisingly functional it has been and how much the wife likes it, I can’t justify letting it go. I have grown to respect it.

We switched from Ford in 2002 and bought our first Santa Fe. Since then we have owned three and have loved every one. Only expenses have been regular maintenance and tires. Warranty has never been a problem with our dealer and all work has been done in a timely manner. I have also owned an Accent and now have an Elantra and would recommend any of them. Fuel economy on the Santa fe is 24 to 27 on the road at freeway speeds. We have 67000 miles on it and never had any problems.

I bought my first Hyundai 2006 Santa Fe in 8/05. I bought the car because everything I read was talking about how good the cars were & how great the warranty was. I have put roughly 27,000 miles on my car since then. I have had several minor, but irritating, issues with the car lately. (1) a piece luggage rack flew off- I never used it (2) driver’s seat seam has come apart, the stitching came undone-clearly a defect (3) another obvious defect is the back windows (that don’t open) and the back windshield leak. All of my issues are fairly minor and should not be hard to fix. I guess that is why I don’t understand why I am having so much trouble getting them fixed under warranty.

Rotors warp continuously. Warranted item but no easy fix. The red tape process for getting approval to replace a warranted item will have you eating blood pressure medication at age 30. Hyundai claims they have a "Bumper to Bumper" warranty for 5 years 60,000 miles. Good luck getting them to honor it. Not to mention the replacement of the wheel bearings and seals at about 15000 miles! Of course it took another 3000 miles for them to replicate the sound! Recently took a service manager for a spin and he heard it every turn but the service tech couldn't replicate, hmmm sounds familiar. Overall Hyundai promises you the best warranty but hardly delivers! Still trying to get the rotors replaced.

After 20K+ miles in 20 months, this '06 Santa Fe hasn't had any problems. Dealer recommended oil changes/service by the book. Dealer caught one minor problem at 6K miles & repaired it (no charge). Great in traffic with ample acceleration to move as needed. Good sound system. Would like better than 2 interior color choices (taupe and grey). Body paint still looks new. Braking is still great. Interior cab for driver feels cramped with seat pushed back to its stops; have to rest left foot on foot rest; still uncomfortable with long drives. V6 highway mileage could be better.

I bought it a year ago and, even when I see the new Santa Fe on the roads, I'm very proud of my last year's choice ! Nice, safe, excellent warranty and quality, needs only to get the scheduled maintenance and it runs forever... It's nice to have the automatic 4X4, in this way everybody can have it without even think about "when to switch it on" or "how to do it"... it's just there, only when you need it !

This is my 2nd Hyundai. Traded up from an Elantra, which I loved, so when I needed a larger vehicle, the Santa Fe was my first choice. For a mid-size SUV, the price is low, the fuel economy is decent, and the warranty and overall quality are outstanding. I find the best fuel economy is about 65-70mph, keeping the RPM's below 3000. Recently moved from FL to CA with my family, 2 pets, and a trunk full of clothes & supplies, with no problems at all. Handled pretty good when I hit the remnants of a blizzard in the midwest. Acceleration is a little slow, but once it gets going, it runs real smooth. Seeing so many other Santa Fe's on the road makes me feel good about the choice I made

I picked up my Santa Fe in August 2006. My hubby & I have a house in PA. We travel out there on weekends and Holidays. I noticed the caravan of Santa Fe's on the highways. We look @ each other with wow I made a great choice on this SUV. Sometimes my husband and I start to count on a given trip we counted for about one mile there were at least ten on the same highway. Four were the same color as mine. I love my truck, and just like my American express I never leave home without it. Great SUV, great price for it and relly a reliable. Liz from Queens NY

We bought the Santa Fe so that we could transport our newborn grand daughter. My wife had a Mustang convertible and it was impossible to place the child in the car seat. We looked at quite a few SUVs and chose the Santa Fe. I never thought I'd enjoy driving an SUV but I do enjoy the Santa Fe. My only complaint is the gas mileage, it is almost as bad as my V-8 powered truck which is also a 4X4.

This is our second Hyundai. We traded our 05 Elantra GT for the Santa FE 06. We drove it to our home here in Texas and was quite pleased with all the features as advertised by Hyundai. It has enough power, it navigated the mountains and curves exceptiopnally well,The only thing I didn't know at time of puchase is the inside trim. The glare from the chrome on the Console is the thing I cover with a cloth. NO big deal. The Santa FE will give milage with Cruise Control on and handles high winds with ease here in Soth Texas. The 07 is probably even better than ours but we will keep this one FOREVER! Good Vehicle and you feel SAFE in it. Keep up the good work but don't over price it.

Great car, have owned a 2002 Santa Fe and it has virtually no mechanical problems. Everything has held up and the gas milage has been affordable with 19 city 25-28 highway at 80mph. My 2006 is virtually the same for all practical purposes.. I will probably keep buying the Santa Fe as it fits my budget and lifestyle perfectly.. the 2007's are quite a step up and reflect that in their exterior styling and interior.. only dislike about the 2006 and unfortunately the 2007 is the interior colors.. two colors to choose from and I dislike them both. My 2002 had a dark grey interior which was very easy to keep clean with our orange dog inside ( Vizsla ).

The Hyundai Santa Fe is second best in its class according to consumer reports magazine. It is rated second, right behind Honda CR-V. It is a little more roomy than the CR-V and better warranty overall. CR-V was also a little more expensive. Years ago, Hyundai was not rated very good, but they have made drastic improvements over the past few years.

I bought this vehicle a commuter car. This is my 1st Hyundai and I was a bit skeptical, however I've been very impressed. The fuel economy could be better, but it's fine even with today's prices. Love the layout of the cabin and the drive; and that's saying a lot since my other vehicle is a '05 Acura. The power is good, even in the Utah Mountains. The only 2 downs are the driver's side can be a little tight and the pedals are close together. I think the 2.7L engine is a little weak for my mountains, but was fine in the city during the test drive. Overall a great value for the money and a good low cost alternative to Toyota and Honda.

This is my second Santa Fe and 3rd Hyundai in 4 years. My first was a 2002 GLS 2.7L AWD and I loved it. I traded for this one because I got a really good deal and am not as fond as others over the new bodystyle. Somehow they managed to give even more bang for the buck without compromising anything. My other had 47,300 miles with no major problems over the course. I am confident that this one will do the same. One thing that I have noticed is that a K & N air filter is worth the investment with these things. I am confident in this vehicle and recommend it to anyone who might be considering buying one. I was a skeptic in 2002 but now am a Hyundai-loyalist.

The vehicle is comfortable but has limited driver leg room. The power seat adjustment seems limited and hard to stay comfortable on any trip longer than an hour. Don't expect great gas mileage - 22 hwy with air. City about 16-17. 2200 rpm at 70 mph. Stereo, trip computer, heated seats are very good. Traction is very nice - you feel very safe even during rain. Rear cargo area is well designed and the sun shade works well - A/C is extremely good and cools the car quickly - Temp control could be more user friendly - Nice acceleration and good braking - Overall the car is a good value for $20k - $25k but if I had to do it all over again, I'd probably purchase the Tucson - more bells and whistle

I traded my 2000 Elantra in for the Santa Fe. I wanted a safer vehicle and I know the Santa Fe has a 4 star crash test rating. It handles well in traffic and seems to get good gas mileage. I have only used one tank of gas in two weeks, but my commute is only 14 miles per day. If you are tall you may have to duck to get in but it seems like there is a lot of room once you are inside. It is a very quiet and comfortable ride. It seems like there are no big blind spots when driving. The a/c cools the vehicle down in a hurry too. I also like the cup holders and little holder I can put my cell phone in. Much more luxurious than my Elantra was.

The Santa Fe offers safety, reliability and comfort bundled with the most features at the best price. Safe, reliable and comfortable. She loves the style (and warranty), and I love the safety features. Add a network of dealers that back their product, and you have a recipe for success! Went with Hyundai for the warranty. Wanted a Tucson, went with the bigger engine that is only available in the Santa Fe. I do mainly city driving, stop and go. Mileage isn't even close to what they stated. Don't even get 13 miles to a gallon in town. Highway 20 to 22. Transmission is sloppy. Standard stero stinks. Had it replaced already. Had a Chrysler Concorde with a 3.3L engine for 10 years. Thought the mileage would at least be close to what the Chrysler got, 17 city. Still drive the Chrysler when I can, gas mileage is so much better. Will trade in vehicle as soon as I find something. So annoyed with gas mileage that I really don't like the vehicle.

I think the vehicle is great in almost every respect. The only problems are gas milage and the initial quickness off the line for this type of vehicle. If you like to launch off the line when the light turns green, you know what I mean. The midrange acceleration is quite good though. It is great for passing on the freeway etc. Overall, this baby has a lot more pep than I expected from a V6. It handles like a car and yet it has pretty good ground clearance for taking camping trips. This is also where the roof rack comes in handy. God for your tents, chairs, sleeping bags, etc.

I've only owned my 05 Santa Fe for 3 months now. I LOVE it! It's a very fun car to drive and I love the service I have gotten so far.

I bought a used Santa Fe and within six months turned around and purchased a new 2005 Santa Fe LX. The power is perfect for the size and the gas mileage is great for an SUV. The car handles very well and has a sporty feel to it. It is easy to park and easy to drive. It is high enough for good clearance, but still stays on the road. The pricing allowed me to get all of the features I wanted for a very reasonable price. I am very pleased with this SUV and recommend it to anyone looking for a mid-sized SUV.

I have had my Sante Fe for 6 months and feel that the vehicle is a very sound and solid SUV. It handles great, rides very smooth and for a 6 cylinder, has a lot of pep. I feel safe driving it. We have a lot of winds that are very strong and the vehicle never swayed once. The interior is put together nicely, very roomy. All in all, I would buy another Sante Fe when I am ready to trade it in. A very pleased consumer.

Rides great, plenty of power, Glad I made the buy, only negative is the gas mileage, but, it's worth it.
