I'll be honest I'm in the automotive industry and 15 years ago I was the last person backing a Ford product. However I was talked into an F150 and fell in love. Now on my second Ford, this one the Fivehundred. I know there are some bad reviews on the transmission but I was fortunate and didn't have any issue's until just recently 242k. Of course it's an extremely expensive repair ( we do not work on transmissions ) . I love my car, and to me it's worth the fix. I am not a gentle driver and drive 100 miles a day for work so I am shocked no issue's until now.,but very grateful as well. I would buy another one in a heart beat.

Some of you might have read the review I wrote on my 1999 Ford Escort LX and this is the car I currently own. After realizing that the possibilities of finding an engine for my escort under 100k was slim I decided to look on Craigslist in my area for a new car. This is what I found I now own a 2006 Ford Five Hundred SEL; Ill be honest there are areas in this car that I like better than my old Escort but then there are some areas where I liked my escort more. For having a fun time the escort would put a better smile on your face while driving to where as in this car you are guaranteed a better feeling ride with more comfort. When I first got this car I utilized the 6 disc cd player quite a bit as a matter of fact to this day I still do. I love having a moon roof over my head so on sunny nice days I can put my sunglasses on and push the button to have fresh air in the car. The cornering in it is scary you never want to take a curve too fast in this car. However if you are a little older and wanting some comfort and a nice looking car at that as well. Then this is the car for you. I found mine on craigslist for little over 3k and it has been a very good car.

My company buys and sells cars at police auctions in public auctions all day all the time. However, like any consumer do your homework on this car. This is one car we stay away from from buying at auctions. The resale value is horrible. We had one 2006 that retailed $22000 in 2007 but by 2010 the retail value was $6,242. The interior is crap in the leather will start to peel after about 25 thousand miles. We also use one of these cars for a little bit because we couldn't sell it I drove it to 78000 and by then it it already gone through two sets of tires two sets of breaks one transmission 1 timing belt - alternators & a radiator if you have the money for repairs you're going to need it

This car I have owned for 4 yrs it had 83000 miles on it.I have had no issues, except sqeeky brakes.I'm going to upgrade them to drilled and slotted rotors and proformance pads.hoping this fixes it.but it's a great car.I have a bad back and the ease of getting in and out is great.it's a must have car.unless u want a fast car.this is a luxury car as far as I'm concerned.

Bought at 7 miles old. After a wk & a half the cvt trans had to be replaced. Again at 105,000 miles its getting replaced again. I've lost all faith and trust in ford. How can they have so many problems with these particular cvts and not feel at least some responsibility for it? I feel very cheated by ford.

I love my car, I bought the SEL, it had the throttle body problem when I purchased it but didn't know what was the problem, brand new off the lot, and it too a long time for that to be recalled, in the mean time I had the TB "cleaned" twice then when the recall finally came they had to completely replace it and it was a bad situation really and very dangerous to drive. The CVT transmission has been great I love it! I have had no problems at all. The air conditioner stopped working properly after 4 years, had to start adding freon within a couple of years, and now we had to put stop leak in it. I hope that works. It is a comfortable car, I paid too much for it without many bells and whistles, but I still love the car. Only other problem I had to replace the alternator and battery. I then bought a 2007 Limited Ford Five Hundred 2 years ago. Great car, but seems to be a heavy car and more of a crusing car. I drive 100 miles a day to work. My black car sits until I can make sure the air works and purchase new tires. A deer hit me 2 months ago and put dents in the car really bad and since it has so many miles I am not repairing it. The 2006 has 238,000 miles on it, and I hope it runs another 100,000 at least! I love that car. But the 2007 Limited is not the car I thought it would be but it is still reliable and I still like it. I would love to have another brand new Ford Five Hundred like my 2006 model!

Don't throw your money away on a 2005, 2006, or 2007 Ford 500 if it has the CVT transmission!!! These transmissions poorly engineered and are expensive to fix. Do your research before you throw away your money on a Ford 500 as I did. They are junk and Ford will not stand behind them.

I originally bought this car in 2012 with 62k miles. Now it's 2015 and 163k miles later. My car has the cvt transmission and no issues. Those complaining of slipping or hard shifts in between gears would be the 6 speed auto. Cvt transmission had only one continous gear. It does not shift. The only replacements done to this car other than normal maintenance is replacing the alternator at 120k miles and replacing the starter at 150k miles. Otherwise a solid car for the money. My daily commute is 120 miles round trip.

My car is a 2006... It has almost 180,000 miles on it. For the most part this has been a good car however, I still feel the transmission shouldn't not be going out. As I read other reviews and notice the same car and year has all these transmission issues is a sign of a test car. Is it fair now that my transmission has died and I have to get another car...NO! My expectation was to keep this car for along time.

Just a quick review due to character space. The car has been very reliable. No transmission issues (CVT does not shift like the 6 speed. I feel others who voice transmission problems actually have the 6 speed as you do not notice gear shifting in a CVT, it is constant and smooth). Bought with 62k miles and presently I have 128k miles and only work needed was a brake change. Now to capture reasons on car rating. Performance: slow and mild engine. 203hp is a little weak for this size car. Comfort, design, quality I put 4 as they are nice. Reliability excellent as I've had no issues. Value poor. Typical of american cars with high mileage.

Bought car used with 128k miles, shortly transmission started clunking loudly in lower gears between 2 & 3 on the CVT tranny. I guess I'm not the only one with tranny problems on these cars. If Ford made a lemon you would thing they would do the right thing and announce a recall to keep their people happy. It would actually bring them more new business. This will be my last Ford unless they fix it.

Bought my 06 SEL FWD used for $5000 recently and can tell you it's the absolute BEST BUY I've ever made for a used vehicle. I had the 07 Limited AWD for a couple of years (also used) and in retrospect probably should not have sold it. It was great in the (Michigan) winters, got super mileage for a big car (26+ highway), seated 5 adults comfortably and the only issue I had was with the rear brakes wearing out after only 15K miles. This recent 2006 purchase reminds me of the great qualities that Ford built into these vehicles and had they been "faster" and perhaps a bit cheaper (than the $30K price tag for the Limited AWD), they'd probably still be around.

After replacing 4 transmissions on a Windstar, and another on a Taurus SHO, we still bought another Ford. Now the 2006 Five Hundred needs a new transmission with under 100k miles. Here is the funny part. The dealer said we had the new CVT or VCT TYPE tranny, but the 2nd opinion mechanic said we don't. How could the dealer be mistaken? This is my LAST Ford.

I thought it was the best engineered car around...for the money and it's functionality and form. It's simply a beautiful, comfortable, and fun-to-drive car. Untill the power steering pump, and rack went out at only 30k. $1100.00 ouch! Now, at 57K I'm hearing howling as I drive to work at night. No, not Halloween warewolves, I wish; wheel (axle), bearing. $360.00 if dearler does the job.

Bought this car new in '06. Had an issue with the brakes from sitting on lot. Dealer took care of this, and also preempted later recall. An alignment issue used up rear tires by 15,000 miles . I was not happy with the dealers response which was basically an offer to sell me 4 tires and an alignment. Bought tires and alignment elsewhere. Other than that, this car has been a champ. Have 70,000+ with no problems. The only thing I have done is to change the oil religiously, and I put new brakes on rear. Sent in last payment this month, so I guess I'll put in some plugs, change the belt, and flush the coolant. Great car.

I bought this car an 06 SEL in 08. Had great miles on it and the car presented very well. Overall a great looking comfortable car. However it's all the cosmetic things that are ticking me off and now as of today I am getting a skipping occurence where the car is trying to hiccup?? going down the road. The engine light has now come on and we're going to be off to visit a mechanic soon. I'm not happy. Moreover, the driver's door keeps setting off an alarm that it's open when of course it's not going down a highway! and the car just frankly rides like crap. Very noisy ride. Won't do this again. Another let down from Ford.

Ford has had major problems with the transmissions in the 2005-2006 Ford 500's. The transmissions go out with as little as 30,000 miles on the vehicle. My car is no exception to the transmission issues. The car will "buck and jump" when passing or when slowing below 40 mph. I contacted Ford and their response was since the NHTSA hasn't forced a recall, there is nothing they can do to assist with the problem. Instead of being proactive, I suppose Ford will just wait until enough people have had their fill of problems and file class action lawsuits.

The paint is coming apart on the leading edge of the hood, an obvious defect from the factory. The collision center manager at the dealer "confirmed" that it is a factory defect, and stated that ford is not standing up and warranting it. The dealer said it will cost $500 to repaint the hood and that they could not warranty the repair due to the problems with the aluminum hood. After contacting Ford Customer service I received a call from the dealer saying that they can get Ford to pay $200 of the $500 to repaint the hood. Today Ford Customer service said that this case is not closed. Never again.

A friend had to tell me about the old name plate and I remembered so when I traded in my 97 Olds Aurora I was so impressed with the 500 with the look and how it handled, cause I only care about performance and how a car handles and the look was Awesome, while most of my buddies bought 'European Cars' I bout a FORD FIVE HUNDRED AWD LIMITED,they were impressed also. haven't had any problems and I bought it used with 41,000 I just put brakes on and new tires on it.I just want it to be more sporty but the car is the best 'SPORT SEDAN''American I have had. My motto is "drive now, drive forever, drive Ford. Thanks Ford this is my first one.

Love this car. I have had it since new and have 92000 miles on it. I have driven this car 11 hours in one day and never get stiff or cramped like other cars I have owned. Gas mileage is great at 24 mpg love the leather and sunroof. The traction control was worth every cent of the upgrade price. Have never had a problem in snow. I will say its a typical ford as far as brakes go, I am on my 3rd set along with 3rd set of tires. But even after 92,000 mile the car is as steady on the road as the day I picked it up from the dealer. Wish they didn't rename it to Taurus I think the car would have done better as a 500.

My car was bought for me as my birthday present from my husband and I loved it as soon as I saw it! We live in new york and we have seen some really bad snow storms here. My car has been great to me! I've never had a problem with my car and right now it has over 100,000 miles on it. I have the leather interior and it's so easy to clean considering I have 2 kids that ride in the back seat. I take my car to and from pa alot so the fact that it has so much room is great! My husband thinks that any other car feels too confined! We were looking at buying a sport utility but I couldn't bring myself to part with my car. I would suggest anyone buy a 500! You can't beat the car for the price!

Overall, I am very impressed with the car. I've only had it for over a month but so far it feels solid. After spending an entire year searching for a car to trade into from and SUV, this one had the best consumer reviews. You'd be amazed how many cars have horrible transmission problems. Got a 4 year bumper to bumper to help with Ford's here and there reliability. The car feels nice on the road, handles snow decently. The stock tires I would throw into the sun if I could. Punch it and she'll take off or just baby it and she'll tug along. As for some folks complaint about power, it's adequate and if you want pure performance then should have looked at a car with those specs.

I purchased my 500 brand new and fell in love with it. My husband gave it to me for a Christmas present/baby gift. Car performed well when we had a collision later that year. Then the monthly visits began. The car has had a new blower motor installed, a ton of transmission work, three brake jobs, door repairs, interior repair, and now the radio has died. We also believe there is an electrical problem with the car the dealership has not located as of yet. I am ready to move this car on. Loved the car, but I hate the almost monthly dealership visits. I would not recommend this car nor any Ford product...and this coming from a former Ford fan.

I bought my car about 2 weeks ago, and I absolutely love it. It's my first big investment, considering I'm 20 years old. I was previously driving a 2000 hyundai elantra, the transition was amazing! As soon as I sit my fanny in the seat I feel super safe. The breaks are wonderful, the interior, is B.E.A.UTIFUL. I don't know much about transmissions but the CVT transmission gives me a really smooth acceleration, no feeling of gears switching, the road sound is a very low hum, unlike the roar I heard in the hyundai. The only downfall to this vehicle is the gas mileage, I was under the impression that it did pretty well, in my brief experience I only get 21 mpg highway, and city.

Bought my 2006 SEL FWD used, many miles on it, great condition. I can't believe what a great value it is. Leather, sunroof, CD, rides nice, handles very well. I must be getting old, I'm excited by a 4-door. But it's beautiful inside and out, black exterior with light tan leather, nicely done woodgrain trim. I'm in sales and wanted to buy American, but most American cars don't appeal to me. This one does, looks almost German, the VW Passat was clearly their benchmark, but with much better interior room. Too bad they dropped the Five Hundred name and went back to the Taurus. I would have never bought it if it was named Taurus - geez, I'm getting older, but I'm not dead yet.

I have had a great experience with this car. I got it new as a company car and bought it from the company when I left other than the recall on the brakes in the first year there has been no issues with this car. I live in the northeast and the car is great in the snow. (traction control) on the 2 wheel drive model has never left me stranded or feeling insecure on snowy or icy roads. I love this car! It has 80,000 miles on it and will run for another 100,000.

Bought this vehicle with 19k miles on the odometer and remaining factory warranty. For a small V-6 (3.0) it performed very well. The 6 speed auto always had a gear appropriate for the traffic needs. At 53000 miles the rear rotors went metal to metal. Found that many owners go through rear pads every 20k miles. Ford has offered a pad with slightly different material that lasts as long as 30k miles. I did the repair myself and found that it had already been done before. My wife and I are very conservative drivers so the "premature" brake wear was a real concern. At 53k miles after the brake issue, we found a large oil leak coming from the rear main seal area. Traded to a Chevrolet Impala

I have owned a series of Tauruses and decided to go with the 500 since they were phasing out the Taurus. This car is very comfortable and reliable. It is actually quite luxurious and is the nicest vehicle I have ever owned in 40 years. It gets up to 27.5 mpg on a trip and 23-24 around town. I wish it had more power and a stiffer suspension. The brakes work fine but have been noisy and and vibrate ever since I owned the car. Stereo is great. Need a better trunk light and there is no light in the glove box. It will haul a mountain of luggage or put the seat down and haul other oddball items.

I got a great price for all the features and low mileage, with 5 year warranty too. I wanted more back seat room for out two growing children. So far, the car has been fault free on every level and very satisfying for the cost. The Limited features are wonderful. It is a perfect all purpose vehicle with excellent saftey features, visability and since of control when driving. I highly recommend this vehicle and tip my hat to Ford.

I bought my vehicle brand new in 2006. She has (I call her a she) 22 inch tires and very shiny rims, tinted windows, charcoal grey. She gets plenty of compliments and plenty of heads that turn. I have not had any problems with my Ford Five hundred. She is very reliable, large interior, and great on gas. I feel honored to have purchased this vehicle in 2006 since 2007 was the last year they were made and changed to the name Taurus.

Now, my fuel pump went out.. only had this car 3 years! Ford will not stand up to their product! Grinding and cracking noises in steering.

When I first spotted this car I thought it was a Mercedes with its overall good looks of distinction. I instantly fell in love after looking at so many cars. It drives like a Cadillac with a smooth ride and the extra room inside is reminiscent of the big cars of yesteryear. My husband who is an auto mechanic swore he would never own a Ford, but was highly impressed with this car. He says the only down side is the engine is too small for such a large car. He's into speed while I'll take comfort and smoothness of ride any day.

I traded in my Nissan for the Five Hundred SEL and am so happy. I now get up to 30 mpg (hwy), have great visibility and a huge trunk. Although critics have said the engine is underpowered I disagree. When I want to pass I tap the gas and it takes off. My insurance went down due to the car's safety features. Ford got it right with the Five Hundred and I recommend this car to everyone. Bought new...start of a nightmare! Motor has been ticking since 500 miles. Ford retorqued and adjusted arojund the camshaft twice-no improvement! Dealer is stumped! Constant brake problems (car has only 20000 miles now). Steering stops have to constantly be "re-set and re-greased" because of noises when steering. AC would not turn off at one point-fixed now. AC doors were striking something and made knocking noises whenever AC was turned on/off-now fixed. Still some odd sounds under dash (like water running) and A/C panel-again Ford is stumped! Dealer blames Ford; Ford blames dealer. This loyal customer will take his loyalty to Toyota/Honda-never to return to Ford again!

This car is comfortable, handles well, and is a tremendous winter car in Canada. It is bascially a Volvo S80 in disguise. Where else can you get huge interior space, a technologically advanced drive train, AWD and a CVT for this price. The only knock on the car is rapid depreciation. Since I own my cars for a long time, this is not an issue for me. I love it and would buy it again.

I test drove one of these before buying mine and loved it. Mine has been excellent except for the brake problem and the fact it is underpowered. I found the gas mileage to be better than expected, but I actually compute it the old-fashioned way with pencil and paper. If you subtract the ending miles from the beginning and divide by the actual gallons used per the gas pump, you will see that your mileage is significantly better than the computer shows. I don't know why. I live in the country and get 23-25 running around and 25-27 on trips, using regular gas. I don't like the look of the 2008, but will try one when the time comes. Love the comfort, space, handling and fuel economy (high 20's consistently). I am partial to the styling vs. the new "Taurus" design. This is my wife's car which is used mainly for business. Incredible space in trunk for her samples. She can haul about as much as a pickup with seats down. No exaggeration. Problems so far - CD did not work soon after purchase and was replaced. Rear brakes! Worn out at 28K. Dealer said this was normal. We had them replaced at a local shop. 2 weeks later, received letter from Ford extending warranty on them to 36K miles - big deal. They should last longer than that. Received refund for the work we had done.

The Five Hundred is powerful, comfortable, reliable, gets excellent gas mileage, fun and easy to drive, has inexpensive upkeep and the lease payments are cheap. I was devastated to hear that Ford wants to nix it in favor of the Taurus, which seems like a "secretary car" to us.

I've had mine in the shop for repairs several times over the rear brakes. They had to be replaced at 20,000 miles the 1'st time, and they are still noisy, like metal to metal at times.Ive had the motor in the drivers side electric window replaced, the dash compartment lid got bubbles in it and had to be replaced, my seat heater for drivers seat had to be replaced, Ive had the trunk looked at( hard to open), and now my radio, CD, clock, is not working, back to the shop.

I have had the pads replaced as often as I have had the oil changed, no joke. Also the rotars have been deglazed twice and turned once. Also there is a lot of road and engine noise while driving. I've driven this car for 1 year and currently have no issues. This is one solidly built automobile. I've studied the crash test data and I wasn't disappointed - 4 out of 5 tests it achieved the 5 star rating. (The 4 star rating was for rollover prevention - an issue that was corrected for 2008.) More than anything else - it is very comfortable to drive or ride in. Passengers in the back seat are surprised by the amount of leg room. When this lease is up I'm buying a Taurus.

This is a fleet vehicle supplied by my company. I drive it regularly, a mix of highway and city miles. Though a definite improvement from the Taurus, still not up to the level of quality of the better Japanese cars. Examples: (1) Hood has to be slammed to close. Don't have to do this if build quality and clearance is correct, but I have to slam the hood hard or it won't latch. Unacceptable. (2) Grinding and creaking noises in steering/suspension. This began shortly after purchase, in cold temps. Now happens regularly. I'm sick of buying imports but will have to until Detroit makes quality their number one goal. I likely would not buy one; if so, only if it was really cheap.

I am a bit disappointed with the mileage, but I can live with what is delivers. The big issue is that it has had problems starting in the last month. Five times now I have jumped in and it won't start. I had it towed last week but the service desk could not find the problem. It failed to start yesterday when I was running errands. fter 20 minutes it did start and I took it back for service. I am very unhappy with this reliability issue. Ford has enough problems.

The Limited is comfortable and economical. I am not one for all the hype about more power. There is enough power for sensible driving in my situation. On two long trips, 2900 miles for 2 persons and 850 miles for 4 persons through Texas and the central Mid West, the transmission did downshift when using cruise on the rolling hills. The first time it downshifted two gears at 80 mph (2200 rpm to almost 4000 rpm) surprised me. We were all comfortable during these trips. We bought this car to get away from using a large SUV as our primary car. With the rolling hills and a heavy load with air on we get about 26 mpg on the highway, on level ground and normal load it is near the 29 mark.

Bought to replace a '97 Buick Regal GS. Not near the HP of the supercharged Buick, but enough for our needs. Interior is great, more than enough room. Seats are comfortable on long trips, tall seating position is great, better than the Buick. Car does not stand out on exterior styling, certainly not a Chrysler 300. Our daughter says it is a car we can grow old with. She says it is a geezer car (she drives a Mustang). CVT was a little odd at first, but we got used to it. AWD drive is great on nasty roads. When it is bad we can actually take the direct route home up a hill without going out of the way for a flatter path.

I just bought a 2006 500 Limited. My shock was that it averages 5 mpg less than the sticker. Instead of getting 29 highway I am getting 24.5 mpg and I am only getting 18 in city. This is based upon the onboard computer. Each of my former vehicles my mpg matched the highway mileage for performance. Same roads - what a disappointment! Radio is cheap, too.

Best car I have ever owned, have not had it back to dealership for any reason except oil changes. I have two identical ones, except for exterior color, and both of them have performed flawlessly. As for power it is not a sports car but it is fast enough. The CVT was a bit hard to get used to as for no shift points. The mileage I get from mine is around 30 mpg at 70 mph. A/C on, and two people in the car. I would buy another of these cars any day.

After 6,000 miles I am very satisfied with my Ford Five Hundred. I have a fully loaded AWD Limited. The amount of options and features available for the price is an excellent value. I purchased this vehicle when gas prices were at their peak in hopes to achieve better MPG than my F-150. I am very satisfied with the MPG I am getting (about 19/20 city). I would recommend this vehicle to anyone who is in the market for a sedan. I have an issue with the electronics in the instrument panel and interior lighting that causes the lights to dim and flicker periodically. I am not sure if this is a widespread problem or if I have a faulty component.

My wife went from Independence Missouri to Saint Louis Missouri and had a 1/4 tank left. That is a 8 hour drive. Because it does not come with side airbags we thought it would be unsafe and were looking at a 2007 Honda Accord. The 2007 Accord gets 4 stars crash test rating with side steel beams and airbags. My 2006 Ford 500 with NO airbags gets 5 stars. Consumers Reports has it as a recommended buy and me and my family agrees. If you want a sedan that is comfortable with an incredible amount of trunk space that gets good gas mileage this is the car for you.

My 99 Chrysler 300M was totaled in April and I was looking for a SAFE, reliable and comfortable replacement car. We looked at the 300s, Acura TL (nice$$) Toyota Avalon (nice$$) Lincoln Zephyr (nice$$). I am not used to car payments and really didn't want to pay the $$$ that these cars would have cost me. There are few frills, but plenty of room, pep and great fuel economy. Small car handling, large car room...great performance on daily expressway driving. The price was great and I am very happy with this car!

Well, here we are, 10K miles later and we keep marveling at how much we love this great automobile. The fuel mileage is on target, no squeaks or rattles, comfortable as all getup and it goes like stink when needed. The ONLY reason it was returned to the dealer was to reprogram the dealer installed remote starter that includes all the bells and whistles that somehow got a glitch. It has been absolutely trouble free, other than that! This is by far The Best Car we have ever owned, and we trade every 3-4 years. This makes this the 15th personal car we have owned, not counting 10 company vehicles that we have had in a fleet. I have to give Ford a "Dattaboy!" with the 500.

Even though the majority of the reviews were positive for the Ford 500 I hesitated to purchase it because of some of the negative comments I had read. Boy was I pleasantly surprised! I put on a lot of mileage averaging 800 to 900 miles per week. I took my new 500 Limited with the CVT transmission on a trip from the Eastern Shore of Maryland to Atlanta Ga. to Nashville Tenn. through Stanton Va. and back to the Eastern Shore (1975 miles). Gas mileage was between 26 to 27.5 MPH. Ride was like sitting in your easy chair. The stereo system was excellent, and the car had plenty of power for traveling highways with speed limits up to 75 MPH. It is a good looking car. I would highly recommend it.

We drove our new Ford 500 home; after driving 400 miles the brakes were pulsing and making a loud grinding noise. We took it in to the dealer and it needed new rotors and pads. Now we can't go 1000 miles before our wheels are totally black with brake dust in the rear only. I am told that Ford is going to develop new pads this quarter to fix the problem. This is a nice car but we have had all these brake problems and we can’t get an answer if our car is even safe to drive. 400 miles for a set of rotors and is not normal and I don't think it's too safe either.

I was attracted to the 500 by it's semi-luxury euro exterior which appears deceptively mid-size but open the doors and trunk lid...WOW! After purchasing, I read about its low horsepower being it's weak point. City driving does have a 'full-size' feel but on the highway this puppy gets up and I've never felt it strain, so I attribute both inclinations to its CVT...either way, I enjoy driving again.

I am very impressed with the Ford Five Hundred. I am in sales and drive approximately 35,000 miles per year. I was first impressed that this car was basically a Volvo S80 for a little over half the price. Safety is very important since my kids will often ride with me. I average about 25 MPG, mostly highway. I love the transmission which is unconventional since it never shifts. It is a bit slow off the line, but once the speed reaches 20 mph, it has plenty of power. My only complaint is road noise. There should more insulation. The car handles very well with the AWD even at higher speeds. I highly recommend it for the money and mileage.

Living in CA with the high gas prices, I traded my import SUV in for my first domestic vehicle. I did much research prior to deciding to buy this 500 but so far it's still too early to tell. I bought mine used with 8k miles for almost $10k less than a new one. It's already been in the shop once for a power steering pump replacement. I went out of the country for two weeks, came back, started it up and heard a big loud boom sound (happened only once) when the engine cranked. The engine in adequate but not great. Interior noise is low and driving it is a breeze. Hopefully nothing else will turn up. Thank goodness for the 3 year/ 36k warranty. I wouldn't have bought it without that!

I switched from 16 years of driving SUV's, and the tall seating position, huge amount of usable space, and luxury made this an easy transition. I don't think it is under-powered, I think it is fine for daily driving, and it handles great. I recently had to merge onto a busy interstate in an area with no merge area, and was really surprised how much get up and go it has when you floor it. The interior is really comfortable for a tall person (I am 6-1 and have plenty of room). Everyone who has ridden in it has loved it - it's too bad so few know about it. Overall this has been a fantastic car. I would buy one again without hesitation.

I bought my first 500 back in late 2004 and it was the Limited version, which I absolutely loved. I traded it in after 9 months because I thought I'd have more fun with a Mustang since it seemed to be a "younger" car. I have traded twice since then and have returned back to the 500. This time, I went with the SEL version. The only difference I can tell is heated and memory seats and a sun roof. I intend on adding a sunroof but am still completely sold on this car. You get so much for the money. I have looked at several Euro cars and this one definitely gives more bang for the buck. I think I'll keep this one for a while!

We just completed a family vacation with our new 500 - what a great car! We averaged 28.5 mpg and the kids (3) were comfortable considering we were in the car for 38 hours. The seats were very comfortable; I drove for eleven hours one day and did not have any aches and pains. We had three large suit cases and a full size cooler in the trunk and room to spare. The only complaint was driving in the mountains - the lack of lower gears was a problem because I was riding the brakes a lot. Otherwise this would make an excellent replacement for a minivan.

We upgraded with the Polk DBS70 speakers. What a great improvement! It now makes the car really seem like the perfect vehicle. No need to upgrade the rear speakers if you can adjust the fader to output the majority of the volume to the front speakers.

I'm very happy to be back in this sedan. It reminds me of the Grand Marquis I use to drive. Comfortable, handles well, minimal road noise. The CVT in my wife's Limited has better pickup, and the Limited has a few more features, but the SEL is good for me. While I might buy a Limited next time, it really isn't that much different.

Almost all of my passengers are amazed at the quality, comfort and ride of the 500. Poor weather handling is fantastic. This car is not as ego inflating as those German megapriced sedans but it has surprised those owners with the good seat support and unequaled rear seat room, comfort and ride quality. On the highway it is quite, smooth and responsive. In over 28,000 miles my only service has been oil changes and tire rotation. I have not had one single defect or problem. The AWD works without any fuss and adds a true feeling of security. Bravo Ford!

I sold a Tahoe to purchase this vehicle with the intent to save money on gas. This has not happened, the car averages 19 mpg in town. I have also had to have the seat belt latch replaced 2 times now. I enjoy the smooth ride of this large sedan. The motor is too small for this size sedan. Overall I like the fact you are able to just step out of the car instead of climbing out. The interior of the car is extremely spacious. The truck is also very large. The ride of this car is very comparable to the ride of my Tahoe. I would recommend this car if you are looking for space and smooth ride.

The new Five Hundred is a nice full sized car with room to spare. I can put a ton of things in the trunk and people in the back seat can really stretch out. This car has so much more trunk space and leg room than the Toyota Avalon that I don't see why anyone would choose it over this. Of course more power would be welcome and gas mileage has been only so so but I'm sure will get better with more break in miles. Really ticked at Ford for eliminating the bodyside door molding for protection.

This one is a sleeper. Honestly, it's a Chrysler 300 for thousands less. The only thing I would change about the car is the power -- it does need more. But the comfort is better than Chrysler, the visibility is great, and the Audiophile sound system is good. My father-in-law thinks it looks like a Mercedes, and my wife calls it a luxury car that fools the insurance companies into thinking it's "just" a Ford.

The 500 is a disaster for Ford. The rear end on my car even when unloaded, scrapes pavement on every speed bump and rain gutter road indentation. I am always wary of high centering this car. The huge trunk is oversized at the expense of basic sound engineering. This is very disappointing!

This is a company issued automobile for me. The basic load out is decent (CD, power equipment). The vehicle is reasonably attractive and the seats are comfortable. Controls seem to be well designed. Good amount of interior storage (center console, door pockets; especially like the dash storage bay). Engine runs a little rough at times, but ok. The CVT transmission is a little odd and it feels like a car with a slipping clutch. But, CVT seems to increase gas mileage about 10% or more. Irritating engine noises, especially when cold. Fit and finish spotty (hood shakes at 70 mph and must be slammed to shut). Overall, not a bad auto. I may buy it when company sells it IF the price is low.

You know, I really don't know why Ford is not letting the public know about this car. Granted it is not the flashiest on the road, but it does have very good sensible good looks. The real story is that the fuel economy along with the size of the interior is incredible! You have to drive it to appreciate how the six speed auto transmission gets all the power you need from the 3.0 engine. The interior is really well appointed too. I love the wood grain and leather seats, sun roof, the whole package. I haven't been this happy with a car for years! Ford should be screaming the 500's praises from the rooftops.

Smooth drive, outstanding visibility, lots of room, quiet. Critics say the design is poor. I don't agree with them. The design is very attractive. Hopefully Ford is not listening to the critics. I think Ford hit a grand slam with the 500!

When first purchased, the wheel alignment was way off. Had to get it fixed twice. Another problem was the hood. It seems to flutter in high wind while driving at 45 and above. No other problems so far. Poor acceleration, but excellent fuel economy. Sound system OK, and wind noise is low. Handling in rain is good an cornering is good. Steering is tight. Other comfort controls are good. Silly that no mechanical trunk lock is included ... what is the battery goes dead? Engine layout is good. Nice features in the information center. Not sure why gearshift is limited to 'D' and 'L' and nothing more. (6 speed). Truck is huge, but lighting extremely poor. One tiny light on left side almost useless.

We did a lot of research on this car. We had a 2003 Acura TL before this. For the money, Ford gives you a lot of car for under $30,000. The AWD Limited is the model we purchased. My wife is the main driver and she loves it. It sits a lot higher for a great view, it's loaded with just about every option, and the 5 Star safety rating gives us a great sense of security when driving. It burns regular gas which is a big savings over the Acura which requires premium gas. The car handles well and the engine, which some say is underpowered, is plenty powerful for us. If you are looking for a loaded car with a lot of room and safety features, you can't beat the Ford Five Hundred. We love it!

I have been looking at this car since it has been in production. I think it is one of the best looking cars on the market, in its class. I am 6’-1.” When I went to the dealer I wore my Penn State hat and still had some head room. We have three children and my wife and I were concerned with space and safety. This vehicle has both! We purchased our 500 with the safety package which has dual air bags and a side air curtain. As for the space, I am able to keep the seat completely back and my boys still have plenty of room. I can’t believe this car is not selling like hot cakes. The 500 has been getting some great reviews.

We love this car! After trading in our 3rd Explorer, we were a bit worried about winter traction up here on our New England mountain but after experiencing two snow storms, we're convinced that we did the right move. Compared to the 2002 V8 Explorer we traded-in, we doubled the "in town" fuel mileage and are close to 30 mpg in the right situations "on highway"(steady 70 mph). Quality is better than my friend's 05 Maxima which seems to be constantly at the dealer for parts falling off or failing. Can't believe the room and comfort. This is one sedan I can brag about. Nice job, Ford!

I purchased this car merely 5 days ago and already have 800 miles on it. This car is wonderful and certainly a steal for the money. There is a *slight* underpower issue, but for me its hardly noticeable. I traded in a Buick LeSabre, now THAT was underpowered. The seats are extremely comfortable and the moonroof and optional safety package are a must. The gas mileage has been around 22mpg. Not bad for the break in period. Audio system is great. I absolutely love this car! As does my 2 year old, who let me change his diaper in it twice without kicking me once!

I like the size and comfort of this car. I upgraded to some black rims and it looks like a B/B 450 in black and that works for me. The car could use a GPS and iPod/MP3 interface. A driver needs to look over the shoulder because of the blind spots in the mirrors. My wife loves the individual heated seat controls. My children covet the car with the upgrade rims.

Traded an '03 Acura TL which was a great car on the highway, but was not ergonomically suited to less than agile youngsters entering and exiting. And even youth found the back seat less than comfortable. The 500 is just the opposite, and while the 6-speed hunts a lot at around 45-55, it is a a good driving car that is, for a sedan, very responsive.

I was reluctant to buy a sedan since I drove 3 Explorers prior to this car. Now that I have, I can honestly say that the Ford 500 is much more comfortable than an SUV and with the price of gas going up again, it is also more economical. Not that I wouldn't ever want another Explorer, but the 500 has been a pleasant surprise. The Limited that I drive has a lot of luxury car features.

I LOVE THIS CAR. Smooth ride, great handling, no blind spots. Very sweet looking car. Soft leather seats are very comfortable and don't get cold like other leather seats do. Handles better in the snow than my old Explorer did. Radio controls on steering wheel are a pleasure. Remote start is the best - glad Ford is finally offering it. Having my own controls for heat and a/c are great - I'm always cold and the hubby is always hot. Plenty of leg room for all - especially tall people. Can sit in the back seat and not have knees up to your chin. Can not believe the trunk space.

After 2 months, I could not be happier with my new 500. I test drove 20 cars before choosing the 500. I was close to buying a Benz E320, but the 500 delivered much more value. The cvt seemed like a sales gimmick, but the smooth shifts are so unnoticeable in my hilly neighborhood. The rear leg room made possible by the raised front seats means my kids do not fight over the front. (The rear is as roomy as a BMW 700 series or Mercedes S Class!). The trunk is massive. The inside feels totally luxurious. Please do not compare with a Honda Accord, this is so much roomier and luxurious. And the 6 cylinder may not be a rocket, but it delivers enough power with good gas mileage. Go buy this car.

I purchased my 2006 Ford 500 SE with the CVT transmission in November of 2005. It presently has 6,500 miles on it and is running great. I am very happy with this car and how well it is built. So far, it has lived up to my expectations. I read a lot of research about this car before I purchased. It does take time to get used to the CVT tranny and how it shifts. The car drives well. I can't really say its fun to drive, although it handles well. Fun driving to me, would be in a smaller sportier car.

We bought this car to replace my wife's Grand Marquis, so we were used to large cars. The interior and trunk room in this car will make you rethink big. The is equipped with all options (not ordered, just the way it came) and we have found that they are mostly very useful. Adjustable gas and brake pedals are great for short drivers, they get you back some from the airbag. This car rides very smooth and responds very well to steering input. Brakes are firm and positive (and ABS). Safety (#1 pick by IIHS) was the single most important selling point for me. With the Safety Canopy and the addition of side mounted airbags, this is one of the safest cars you can own.

I'm a sales rep and the 500 is my company car. Best one yet. I'm 6'-2" and I can easily fit 3 customers and myself comfortably. My wife is looking at luxury cars and we're using the 500 as a benchmark. So far we're disappointed in what a $36K luxury car can give us compared to this car. Example, if we were to take friends out to dinner we'd feel more comfortable asking them to sit in the back of the 500 vs. the Lexus ES330 or the Acura TL. 500 has great visibility, plenty of room, a place for my Blackberry, cell phone, chargers, notebook, coffee, bottled water and more ... all at the same time. I'm tempted to get one for my wife with leather et al and forego the "luxury" cars.

This is a great car. It is put together well, rides and drives great, looks good, etc., EXCEPT it needs a little more horsepower. The 250 HP engine due in the 2007 model will solve that problem but why does Ford make us wait. Also, the interior doors, etc. are hard plastic. I wish Ford would spend a few dollars, and I will pay more, for a softer feeling interior. Design, etc. is great. It's just 95% of a perfect car.

I have two car seats in the back and have more room than I had with the suv. The interior is beautiful and the outside looks both strong and elegant. My husband loves the 18 inch Pirelli tires; they look good on this sedan. The command seating is great, especially if previous car was an suv. This is a great family car. It has tons of space inside and out. Ford did a great job. Now there really is no reason to buy a foreign car.

The car is outstanding to drive giving the driver a sense of a much bigger car. It is comfortable and the interior is well designed. The AWD system operates flawlessly and the handling in inclement weather is extraordinary. The engine is very adequate for this vehicle as it is not a race car. All that have sat in the rear have expressed the great amount of room available for passenger comfort. Both me and my wife have been stopped by people asking about this vehicle. We have had flashy vehicles in the past, but none that have provoked such interest by the general public. This is a great value and its safety has been noted by NHSTA. It is comfortable, has plenty of power, large interior space, A/C cools well - I am in Texas and that is important - large truck and best of all, a quality vehicle. Too many people are saying it has no power; it does have what is necessary for a professional/family sedan. I have had many compliments after people have ridden in the car. You must take a look at it before you take the word of people who just like high priced fast cars. This car is for the normal everyday Joe who wants a car that will last him a long time.

Purchased my Five Hundred Limited in mid-Dec. Fuel mileage after 600 miles ranges from 15 in the city to 23 on the highway (65 mph). Ride comfort is excellent. Traded in a 2003 LeSabre Limited. The ride in the Five Hundred is a bit firmer than the LeSabre, yet the handling is much sharper. The overall ergonomics are outstanding. The rear seat room accommodates just about anyone. The trunk is huge. Am hoping the overall fuel economy will improve as the powertrain gets "broken in." The 6- speed automatic makes up for the most part the lack of torque the 3.0L V6 has. Overall performance is similar to what the LeSabre had.

Ford has finally built an European auto, but at $10-15,000 less. I average 27 mpg on rolling hilly highways. Makes ice and snow covered roads feel like dry pavement. Plenty of room in cabin and trunk. Comfort and convenience combine with hi-tech controls and transmission for a fun-to-drive automobile. It doesn't just pretend to be of European quality. It challenges European quality. I still find it hard to believe that I got so much car for such a low price.

I just purchased a 2005 model year Limited FWD for my wife. We have had it about 2 weeks and simply love this car. The interior is simply outstanding and has a very luxury look and feel to it. Seats are very comfortable, front and rear legroom is great, road noise is acceptable but could be improved (I can still carry on a conversation in the car without raising the level of my voice). Power is more than adequate for us. The Duratec 3.0 liter engine is a very reliable engine. I have a 1996 Sable, also purchased new, with over 90K miles and have had no issues whatsoever with it. I'm looking forward to several years of driving pleasure with our new Five Hundred.

I could hardly be more impressed with an automobile. The fit & finish and quality are superior. The "Command Seating" is great. Only two small complaints; the car has too much road noise on all but the smoothest surfaces and it could use a little more power, BUT I love the fuel economy. I have had my Ford Five Hundred SE AWD for 4 weeks now and cannot understand why there are not a lot more of these cars on the road. (I drive approximately 50,000 miles per year and trade every two years) This is one of the best cars I have driven, especially for the money. It is a Volvo S80 frame and is incredibly solid, smooth, and safe. The handling is excellent with the AWD and you can get an interesting transmission that does not shift like conventional transmissions. I am averaging approximately 26 miles per gallon with a little over half my miles on highways. I highly recommend them. You can get one for around $22,000. Great car for the money.

It's been OK since. Also a squeak developed in the right rear tire area while we were up north. Other than these two things , the car runs great, looks great, and most people CAN'T believe it's a Ford.

Trunk and cargo space is almost as spacious as the Taurus Wagon (I've had 3 for over 200,000 miles) Little storage spaces are convenient and well placed. One minor drawback is that it has trouble accelerating onto an interstate ramp up hill. It is a small price to pay for the fact that I've gotten 31.5 MPG on the highway.

I drive five hundred miles per week and have averaged over twenty nine miles per gallon. I'll take the gas mileage over the so called lack of power any day, especially considering the rising price of gas.The Five Hundred has great ergonomics and is the most comfortable cars I've ever owned. Great value for the price.

After three SUVs, I wasn't sure how I would feel about driving a sedan, even if it did feature "command seating." I have NOT been disappointed. this car is everything it is advertised to be and more. European style, great comfort, large in size and surprising gas mileage. altogether a great package.

Purchased the Ford 500 with the CVT transmission on the SE model front wheel drive. The car has plenty of power for me. I like the size and quality that Volvo has added. The doors are well sealed with rubber and makes all road sounds a thing of the past. The air conditioner gets the car cool fast. The tires are 17 inch and are wide to hold the road, nice ride. It was a bargain with the employee discount, under $20,000. It is a nice safe car. Take your foot off the gas and it rolls freely. Getting about 18 miles to the gallon around town. Could do better in town with more careful driving.

After nearly 6,000 miles, I have had no problems. On the highway I have been averaging around 31 MPG driving at or near speed limit. It is a pleasure to drive and it gets lots of curiosity lookers and questions. I am very satisfied with the 500.

I have enjoyed my Ford 500. It gets great gas mileage and has a very smooth but controlled ride. The only things I would change are the passenger seat and the tranny. The tranny needs a sport mode so the driver can select the gear manually during spirited driving. The passenger's seat needs to be 8 way adjustable like the driver's seat. I can't imagine anyone hauling lumber in this nice interior.

I spent several weeks trying to find the best car in my price range. I am the type of person who has to be sure I am satisfied before I spend a large amount of money. I test drove and researched every other car in this class and price range. Safety was a big concern and there is nothing better in the same class. It beat the Camry, Accord, etc. The Five Hundred was designed by Volvo's top structural and safety engineers and the crash test results reflect it. The car has adequate power and rides like a luxury car. I have seen some reviews that said this car would appeal more to the older crowd. I am 33 and two other people bought a Five Hundred while I was there and they were even younger.

This is a follow up to a previous problem report. The CVT engine/transmission was rough especially during moderate acceleration during warm-up. The shop foreman was very proactive by contacting the engineering rep even though no error codes appeared in the computer. Coincidentally a technical service bulletin [TSB 05-17-05] appeared within a week of my problem. The shop foreman contacted me! The PCM and TCM were reprogrammed per the TSB and ALL IS WELL! Now, I can wholeheartedly recommend the Ford Five Hundred. Roomy, comfortable on a trip, good mileage and fun to drive. Don't pay any attention to some car mag reports about inadequate acceleration. Test drive the CVT and be surprised.

One of the best of cars I have ever owned, it is great looking, and runs smooth and quiet. The 18 inch wheels really make all the difference. The power memory seating gives you a great view of the road. The interior is smart looking and well appointed has all the features of luxury car. Great truck room.

I went from a SUV to the 500, all around best car I have ever owned. I added a spoiler and a billet grill and pin stripped. Everyone thinks it a $60,000 car. Ford did it right. good performace and mileage. Really having fun with it. Spend the extra dollars and get all the bells and whistles as I did. Enjoy

I like my new 500 very much. The only complaint I have with it is the trunk. Although the trunk is huge and holds lots it is not flat and the edge around the inside of the trunk takes up valuable space. For example, I had a Taurus and the trunk was flat. The 500 with the edge or lip around the trunk will not allow me to store things like i did in the taurus. Otherwise, I like it greatly.

Large well equipped sedan purchased for 2 to 4 week trips by a couple who needs large trunk and clothes bar. Quiet and comfortable on both the interstate and back roads. Good sound and A/C. Easy access even for older folks. Can see over the top of most cars. Dangerous drivers will say it's underpowered. Safe unticketed drivers who look and plan ahead say power is adequate. If things get tight it will go. Mpg exceeds expectations. Has stability and good feel of the road. Firmly sprung but smooth enough. Finish and fit are great. Everything works. For the money it looks good and does the job for us.

Only complaint I have is it is a little gutless with "pick up" but still has enough to get the job done. The seats are very comfortable and there is enough leg room in the back seat for my 6'4" son in law to sit comfortably. The trunk is HUGE! We like to camp and all of our gear fits with no problem at all. I bought the absolute basic model and it has all the features that I needed.

The car rides wonderfully. I traded in my 2003 Audi and my 2003 Mercedes to consolidate to this one car. I already packed the trunk and folded the back seats down to carry about 1200-1400 pounds of bricks. I get comments all the time ... THATS a FORD? WOW! It is refreshing to see domestic automakers stepping to the plate with their new designs. Welcome to the new millennium with this model, Ford.

I love the comfort, look and feel the car. It is large and has plenty of rear seat and trunk space. The interior is ordinary, nothing unique about it, but comfortable. The seats sit high. The acceleration from a stand still leaves a lot to be desired. Acceleration for passing at road speeds in good. The blessing to the 203 hp engine is the gas mileage. I've been averaging 23ish in the city, not bad! All in all I am happy with the car.

I like this car better all of the time. The main thing that is different is the transmission. The transmission doesn't shift but instead increased engine RPM is heard in the car. It is very good on the highway in performance and gas mileage on a recent trip was 30 mpg. I am very well satisfied with this car because it has a lot of room for passengers and a huge trunk.

I find this to be a very pleasurable and comfortable auto. From its quick response when you step on the gas to the take charge of road cockpit which gives you a sense of being above the road instead of down on it. If something were to happen to my Five Hundred I would replace it tomorrow with the same car. This time Ford definitely did their homework.

This is a smooth transition car. It doesn't have the big jump when you step down on the gas but it accelerates very quick. The ride is great for both driver and passengers. Everyone appreciates the leg room, both front and back. The trunk space is almost unbeatable! On my drive across the Midwest in 90 degree weather, I still was able to drive 500 miles between fuel stops. It is not a car for high-speed, tight curves and the rear end will feel slow through those tight turns.

Love my Ford 500!
