This has been a great truck. I've put 200,000 miles on the odometer and the truck runs and drives like the day we met. I'm going to miss this truck.

Having owned this Truck 10 years it has been reliable and solid. Poor gas milage and plasticky interior, doors are Fisher Price plastic and cracking.. Roomy in double cab. Beware of Toyota and them not confessing their problems with cracking leaf Springs and rusty frames. Toyota hides until they are smoked out on the many suspension problems.. Finally received my reimbursement from the bean counters at Toyota after taking them to the BBB and they shorted my on the install. I won't be buying from Toyota again due to this public relations nightmare and their treatment of customers . Customer service experience is abysmal and Toyota's perception of quality seems to be riding on the past.

Generally speaking, the Tacome is without a doubt the Best Looking Mid-Size Pickup out there. The 4.0L V6 is an excellent power plant with great acceleration and towing capability. The interior is average at best, although improvements have come on later models, it is stil very comfortable on long drives and easy to get Ina and out of. The handling capability for this truck is pretty solid around turns and the ride suspension is pretty decent as well. Obviously Tacomas Rule, because everywhere I go, I see them more than any other truck.

I've got 90/10 good and bad reviews. I like the radio, which I have the V6 SR5 4x4 model with the TRD Off-Road pck, and nothing more I could say about how great it is to drive! The manual transmission, though, I got to say that I don't like. I hear a slight thump whenever the gear's lever hits the end of the outline of the transmission gear shifter. The speaker system is bad and rad. It make the volume feel like it's at 30 when it's really on 18!

I bought my 2005 Toyota tacoma SR5 4.0L 6 speed 4 years ago. I really like the truck! In the entire time I have had it I have NEVER had to do anything to it period. I have only had to change the oil and put gas in it, thats it. You couldn't ask for a more reliable truck! The engine is strong and the 6 speed manual never skips a beat. I currently have 112,000 miles on it and have never had to do anything to it. However, I DO NOT like the composite bed has no tie downs for heavy items. THE TAILGATE IS UTTER CRAP and can not handle any weight had to replace mine. And doesnt get the best milage. I only get 15MPG at best my old ford V8 gets a lot better mpg's.

Great Truck no perfect 2005

At 80,000 miles after towing a car on a dolly 1500 miles one universal joint went out. Replaced all 3. Replaced one wheel barring (so far). Cab fan motor went out, replaced, then fan motor connector failed due to heat. Replaced connector with GM part, exactly the same only less expensive. Rear leaf springs are weak, not much weight in bed and spring bumpers are almost on the axle. In cab navigation and temp indicator failed. Poor factory solder job on components, I re soldered and is still working fine. Mesh style seat material stains easily and is hard to clean. At 148K still looking good.

I bought it in 05 for about $33,000.00 This truck with 50K miles is a money pitt. The service is way over priced. The recalls lists are long yet are minor compared to the list of problems toyota dosnt cover. 1 frame is so weak that it CAVED IN AT THE MOTOR MOUNTS. The result 8 weeks in the shop countless calls to toyota and b/s forever to have them say I need a new frame and it would be around $13,000 to repair my truck what a joke, not a funny one. 2 Newest problem @ 86Kmiles bad cats all four, around $5000.00 to replace. 5 weeks in shop to have them tell me that toyota will cover $1000.00 of it after I pay in full. I can't afford it and no smog w/light on so Im SOL save your money

love my pickup. i drive it alot and its never given me trouble. i sometimes carry heavy loads in it and it never struggles, does a really good job. gas mileage could be better but not bad.(26mpg combined)

Two simple words: Phenomenal truck! This is the second Tacoma I've owned since 97. This truck has been 100% reliable in the MN winters. 25 below or 12 inches of snow will not slow this truck down. I've owned other trucks that were cheaper in price, but with the Tacoma you get what you pay for. Compared to other mid-size (or full-size) trucks, its a great value. 100K miles and just broken in!

I picked this truck up early 2006, and it has been a pleasure to drive. I just had to perform my first non- routine maintenance on the truck (front brake job)@ 80K. These brakes lasted 20K longer than any other vehicle I've owned. I use this car for everything including , commuting, hauling, towing, and driving the beaches of the OBX. The truck still drives like the day I got her, without any squeaks or rattles. I'm getting the itch to buy a new car (lexus ES350 or Corvette), but my Tacoma is not going anywhere. The car is too reliable and versatile to ever think of letting it go. I have no doubt this car will go over 200K with little more than oil changes.

I picked up my Tacoma yesterday morning. I bought it with 42k miles/1-owner for $21k. It is a blast to drive! This thing climbs hills. In 6th gear @ 50 mph. There is enough power throughout the power band. Shifting is smooth once you get use to the clutch which feels as light as a car's clutch. If you are looking to fill a semi-sports car void without loosing the utility of a truck and have room for the family, test drive a Tacoma. The reliability of a Toyota is undeniable. I plan on taking this truck to 220k.

The temp and compass above dashboard needs designed so you can read it in the daylight! Stock radio and cd player are junk, dealer quoted $700.00 to replace! Truck has great exterior design and looks great though!

Best truck I've ever had

I bought this truck new in December 04. It is fun to offroad in, gives me about 18 mpg. This is a way better truck than any Chevy Dodge or Ford. I've only had 1 problem with it and it was the transmission. The transmission went bad because of bad driving habits. The Toyota dealer replaced it for free and gave me a free rental until it was complete. I tow a trailer full of dirt bikes up the mountains with no problem.

Bought used with 50,000 and now my transmission went out, clutch, shocks, and the grill flew off on the free way. It's still a blast to drive and I like the styling and the size with a six speed manual. It needs more horse power and insulation. Bumpy all most drove off the free way twice.

Bought used in 2008, have literally driven it across the country. (Truck has about 110k miles on it now) Avgs 16-25 mpg. Took it tailgating in the southeast with 4 adults and gear and got 25 mpg on highway in "mountainous" terrain of western NC and SC. The truck has been worry free over about 15k miles. The power from the V6 has been more than adequate with hauling rocks, dirt and plants/trees for homeowner "fun" and around town. I haven't towed with it. 60# dog fits in back of cab nicely as the seats fold flat and have a robust back. The cubbyholes behind and under the rear seats were borderline genius (they have become more common now, I think). The power outlet in truck bed is handy.

Get one if you can find it.

Very dependable. Have no complaints, only wished it would get better gas mileage. It seems to be very durable. No part failures or recalls on this one. All small trucks should have 16" wheels and leather seats. Tacoma 2dr 4 cyl. Does not. My concern at the present is, a vibration coming from the drive shaft, under acceleration. If a person wants or needs a small truck, this is the one.

This is a HUGE improvement over the earlier Taco's that were much smaller and had little wiggle room inside. Now Toyota has a real mid-size truck!! Incredible power that is just too tempting to ignore - will smoke most of 'em off the line. Beautiful styling inside and out, with some fine tuning over the years these will be a perfect truck!

Make it short and sweet. I bought my taco used with exactly 20000 miles on it. I was an All-American car buyer until this vehicle and still doubted the value when I got it (Great Deal on the buy). Since I've gotten the truck I've put 36,000+ on it and never done anything other then oil changes. I literally love this truck more and more everyday I drive it. I would recommend it to anyone looking to buy a 4dr truck. Gets great gas mileage for a truck; has plenty of power on the street and off roading. I've only owned 4x4's(3 Jeep's, Explorer, F150 & 250, Blazer), and this is definitely one of the best I've owned. All around great buy.

I've driven 51000 mi. with only oil changes and nothing else needed so far. The interior has superior fit and finish, and in the Michigan winters it makes not a peep, and is a testament to the build quality. Great styling turns heads, and I still get compliments after 4+yrs. With half city and half hwy driving I get 17.5mpg in the winter and 20.8mpg in the summer. Nothing has ever failed to work, and it climbs like a billy goat off-road. When I push the accelerator-it moves like all get out; feels like a V8 (a powerful V8).

My '05 is my 3rd Tacoma in a row. Previously an '01, and before a '95. The road handling on this one is night and day difference than the other 2. It does everything that I ask off road and gets decent mileage, 18 around town and up to 26 on the highway. It's about 4 1/2 years old, 150,000 miles, and drives like new. Nothing but oil changes, tires and brakes so far!!!

Great truck all around. I drive 20K per year through mountain roads in Puerto Rico and currently have 65K. I had one minor leak with the power steering fluid that was covered by warranty. Other than that, the temperature/compass display was damaged a month ago is not covered by the extended warranty I purchased! It's a great solid truck. Very reliable and lots of aftermarket goodies to customize it and make it your own. I have performed all tune-ups at the dealer and have never been strained on the road. The average MPGs are 17.8 with a best of 20.7 and a worst of 16.7.

We have hauled 4 adults @ a time, pulled a trailer hauling a Harley all over the country, filled the bed with rocks, logs, mulch, topsoil, and I drive to work each day. We live in the Ozarks, so none of our roads are straight, flat, or smooth. The local mileage is 18 mpg and on a flat Highway 55/39 in Illinois or 70 through Kansas mileage climbed to 24 mpg running at 75 with the AC cooling me to a chill in 90 degree heat. The only complaint I have is the alarm system was futzed up and we had to install an aftermarket system. And that bed is made out of plastic. I want a steel bed with solid anchors like my old Hilux. So all-in-all this truck has been very easy to own. 60,000 miles!

When new, the truck got more than its share of attention. Good mileage and great ride are pluses. Cargo capacity when camping or hunting can't be beat. Also has gone places 4X4s wouldn't go. Air conditioner has been only problem with radiator and now A/C clutch needing to be changed.

I love Toyotas. My experience with this one has been not as satisfactory as past. 7000 kms - all 4 hubs fell off. 14000 kms transmission needed replacing. 90 000 A/C compressor done and needs replacing- not under warranty and rare for this to go so early-very expensive part. Want to sell but don't want others to take on these issues if still to come. Toyota customer service was less than satisfactory on helping me with these issues. So surprised due to previous experience with Toyota. :(

Toyota keeps building great machines. This one has been very reliable. 55mi and running strong. NEVER needed repairs outside of general maint. This truck offers all around versatility, good gas mileage (19 mpg- city or hwy), and great resale. Yes, this truck will cost you 2-3K more than a domestic, but it's well worth it.

I drive the LA frwys 95% of the time, best MPG is 19.97 and after 80k replaced the first set of Bridgstones to take a long desert trip, brakes still have over 50% wear left, not one major and very few minor issues. Love the way I sit, lots of room and I'm 6'4" 240lbs, never a sore back. Love the V6/6 speed even though I might not get out 2nd on the 405 for an hour. Am I crazy? Only complaint is the 4x4 switch which does not always work, dealer thinks I'm nuts. Won't always go in or out of 4 low on command.

I bought My Tacoma about 2 months ago. I drive round trip 50 miles everyday. If I drive the truck the "right way" I get about 19-20 MPG. I do about 65% highway miles, 35% city driving. That's awesome for a truck w/a stout V6. So The power is really great. I have had 3 V8 trucks, 2 V6's, and this matches all of them. The transmission shifts awesome, can't even tell it is shifting. It rides like a car, and has great room and all kinds of hidden spaces for storage. I have 3 kids under 6 and it has great room for car seats. Styling is great, however I wish the tilt steering was better, not much adjustability. The dash gauges are awesome. I can get anything in the bed. I love it, great buy.

Mechanically Good; Poor Fit and Finish

First few months were a nightmare. Bought the truck when the model was brand new and still had a lot of bugs to work out. Was at the dealer for repairs at least once a week. The most significant problem was major paint flaking and chipping after only 5 weeks, just from driving in the snow on paved roads. Toyota would not admit that there was a problem with the paint. Most recently, at 53K, I have a frame that's rusting so badly that even 10-15 year old trucks I see on the road have frames that look much better. Again, Toyota claims there's nothing wrong with the paint on the frame. My final gripe is that the body dents and dings too easily--the sheet metal is just too thin.

I got an Ext. Cab with TRD-Off Road Package. The truck is excellent in everyday driving. I drive through country roads with only 1 lane(in each direction) and find myself passing other trucks and vehicles all the time. Very dangerous but I have enough power to do it quickly! Very reliable truck, already have 50K in it and the engine and paint are as good as new. I drive fast and only get 17.5 MPG, but when I slow down I reach up to 19.5 MPG.

I purchased my truck as a demo model in 2006. It has been flawless. I have always owned domestic trucks in the past, mostly Fords. The build quality of the domestics pale in comparison to my Tacoma. I have 45,000 miles and every panel is as tight as the day I bought it. No squeaks, rattles, or faulty interior pieces. I absolutely love my truck, and can't imagine parting with it, unless I was replacing it with a new Tacoma.

I have dreamed about owning a Toy Truck since 1985 when Back To The Future came out. My parents got one back in the early 90s and I was insanely jealous and so when I totaled my car I got another car but my heart was set on the truck so I said I only have this one life so I broke down and bought it. I love how I feel when I'm driving and I get so many compliments on it and her name is Bagheera. She is a dream come true and I have never been happier.

I love my Tacoma it has handled everything that I could throw at it, including carrying a 7200 fully loading trailer, as well as 1800 pounds in the bed. (Not at the same time). All in all I am very impressed with my truck, and wouldn't get anything else.

Looked at every truck available and almost got a Honda. The Toy was not as nice but much more fun to drive. I'm on the fwy every day in LA traffic and love the 6 speed, original tires have 65k and will last another 8K months, clutch is solid as the first day. Overall quality is first rate. Interior room is fine but not spacious. I am 6'4" and my sons are 6'5" and they love to drive it. Plan to buy the exact same when youngest son takes this. Toyota no longer sells a 6 speed in SoCal so I'll go out state to get one.

I absolutely love my Tacoma. I opted for the 4 cylinder 4x4, manual transmission. Its fun to drive, and does pretty well on gas, except in the winter when my mpg takes a nosedive to about 17-19 (from about 22-24). We just put new tires on it because the tires that came with it weren't too good in the snow of upstate NY. This truck is perfect sized for me, at 5 feet 3 inches. My husband who is 6-2 also fits in it nicely, and can even ride in the back seats for shorter trips. We can fit everything we need, including the dog, for a weekend at camp in the cab of the truck.

I have to say, I am so impressed with my new truck. I have been driving BMWs for the last five years and coming out of a 40K car to a truck I was not expecting the luxury drive as well as the power and handling. WOW! What an extraordinary driving machine. I love it so much. The TRD package is worth every penny! I am absolutely impressed with it and can't wait to plan some fishing trips.

Saw the X-Runner at the San Diego International auto show, immediately started searching. Had to wait for one to arrive, ended up being the first non speedway blue one in CA, or so I was told. Love it. Handling surprises many "sports car" drivers. Weak link was stereo, so I upgraded it. I get more looks than new Corvettes. Have not gotten this many thumbs up and comments since I owned my 66 GTO.

I am the owner of 2005 reg cab 4x4. It has a huge problem with rust on the frame. The rust is not all the way thru but it already has started and I have never seen rust like this so early. Frame actually looks as if it belongs to a truck 20 years old! I would only recomend this truck to someone living in a very dry area. I will not purchase another Toyota because of this. How safe can it be to drive down highway with nothing holding the truck together? I wish I would have known before purchase. Too bad, I get over 25 mpg with A/C on in city!

I speak from experience. Owned 86 SR5 22RET 4x4 (300K+), 91 SR5 4x4 (200K+), 96 T100 4x4, 96 4runner Limited, 95 Tacoma 4x4 (75K), 96 Tacoma 4x4 (75K). 99 Toy 4x4 Ext Cab (100K) As you can see I spent many a miles behind the wheel of a Toyota truck. Bought my 2005 to tow a 22' boat. Already after year and half put 30K miles on it. By far the best looking all around driveable Toyota truck I have ever owned. Towing and overall drivability is above all others. Long-distance HWY trips are now a dream. Reliability is always A+. The only thing I have to do with this truck is change the oil and air filter. See below for my few negative comments.

This is my second Tacoma (first was a 97 ext. cab 4x4), and WOW what a machine! The '97 was rock solid, and so far, the '05 has been just as good. The ride is smooth (w/ long wheelbase), the 4.0L and 5spd tranny is awesome, the 4x4 system works flawlessly, the interior/exterior styling is so much better than the competition IMO. It is everything you would expect from a 28K truck. The only minor complaint I would have is some wind noise at speeds of 65+. MPG is very good for a truck this size (18-20 mpg). Would highly recommend any Tacoma truck!! Tacoma = workhorse.

This is my 5th truck and I couldn't be happier with the vehicle. The wider body, fuel economy, and tow capacity make it an excellent compromise to a full size pickup. It offers all of the creature comforts and handles like a car in town. The TRD package with locking differential make it a capable off road vehicle. Performance is surprisingly strong even at altitudes above 10,000 feet.

I purchased my certified used Tacoma in October '06 after a Denver snowstorm left me unable to exit my driveway w/my current car. I've wanted one of these trucks since I was 15 (I'm 41 now). It's been the best decision I ever made (besides divorcing my husband!). This truck handles so well, has so much power and is so fun to drive, I only wish I'd bought one sooner! Gas mileage isn't bad either. I really am a woman who loves her Tacoma!

A great mid-size truck. With 4-cylinder, plenty of power. A LOT of power from stop to 60 MPH. Handles great. Comfort is very good. The new bed design is awesome. I hope they will not change this. Fuel economy is very acceptable. Have not had any problems with this truck. If I could change anything it would be to have had the option to add fog lights and running lights - really should be standard equipment, for safety reasons!

25,000... no problems, but did not have towing electrical harness as described in manual, had to purchase for 90 dollars and was difficult to install at fuse box. Towed 3,500 gross lb trailer loaded to max 800 miles no problems. Plenty of power, handles great and is comfortable. Compared to my 2002, greatly improved is a/c and handling/ride. Alarm is not too sensitive as in 2002. Size is nice midsize, has all I need and works well. A little wind noise, but overall is quiet. It's a keeper.

At the time this little beauty was unmatched in the market place. Probably still is. However, to make it perfect, for guys who are not small, the seat could be larger for better leg support, the noise level, was really noticable from my Sport Trac and the suspension bottoms out way to often over large bumps that can occur on our nations rail track crossings.

I think the build quality of the previous generation tacoma is much greater. I have had dashboard problems with mine, engine ticking problems, cigarette lighter port problems, and door panel problems. All of this within the first 10,000 miles. My 1997 tacoma had 147,000 miles on it when I sold it, and I had not as much as one problem.

My father always said, never buy the first year of a new model or redesigned model and I didn't listen to him. This truck has had so many problems I can't even count them. It has been in the shop repeatedly since day one. To this day, I still can't get anyone to admit that the exhaust sounds like it has a leak. I thought I was buying quality, but I was fooled. Don't be. Buy a 2007 or later. By all they have learned about mine, those next years should be great!

The best truck I ever owned, I have about 15000 miles on it now and its still feels like it brand new. Only problem that I had was the rear springs were making noise but all they need was a little grease and now they're good as new. I highly recomend this truck to anybody, I think it's the best truck out there right now.

I've owned a number of Toyota trucks in the past. All have been excellent with incredible trade-in value. This one is the best ever. Roomy, solid, plenty of power, 6 forwards, bed tie downs, protected bed, much bigger extra cab, great sound system, easy to red dash, plenty of leg/head room and a large feeling cab (not closed in). Head lamps seem brighter and flash rather than stay on all the time. I love the vehicle.

What's not to like about the newest generation of Tacoma . I love my CC 05' ! Plenty of room ,easy exit level,great interior and quiet. Plenty of power from the v6 and you can smoke lots of other trucks and cars with the power to weight ratios ,can be very quick for a truck. After driving Ford F150's and Rangers -I am totally sold on this truck ,to me it is the perfect size (no longbed with the CC style-please!) I would highly reccommend this truck -it deserves the sales numbers it is getting .

I bought this truck expecting good fuel economy and rugged capabilities. It is a great truck for off roading, towing, and getting dirty and if you want to look tough on your commute to work. The truck has disappointing fuel economy i rarely if ever got above 17 mpg on the freeway. the ground clearance is high so if you're under 5'8" better get the steps or nerf tubes. the automatic was terrible, it always searched for a right gear and downshifted constantly with the cruise control on, even on level roads, and engine noise gets pretty loud.

I love my truck but i have one problem, no lumber rack will fit on the new tacoma! want to know why? the new composit bed. Rack-It from SS CA, told me the bed will crak and fail. So what to do now? This is an awesome truck. The power is great. The TRD package comes with a rather stiff suspension which is great for off road but makes it a bit bumpy on the road. Overall this has been an awesome truck.

I have owned 4 Toyota trucks and 4-Runners. The Tacoma is by far the best. the new 4.0 V-6 has more than enough power even with two dirtbikes, full gear and four passangers. I love to beat the sport compact cars with it. The locking rear diff. works as well as I had hoped it would. The six disc changer and sound system works well with a variety of music. Gas mileage is not so great. I hope it improves with mileage. The six speed trans needs a little break-in time. over all, it really turns heads. Fun to drive!

This truck takes a while to break in, but I am getting 21.5 miles per gallon (10,000 miles) up from about 18.5 when I first bought the truck. I think this is the most reasonable truck on the market. First of all, the 4 door crew cab can actually fit people in the back seat, even full size adults. Second, this thing can tow up to 6,500 lbs, which is more than enough for the average truck driver. Third, this truck gets 20 plus miles to the gallon. When you drive this truck, you will notice that the rpm barely break 1500 if driving light (lots of range in the transmission). But if you hit the gas, this thing will throw you into your seat (supposedly goes 0- 60 in about 7 flat).

I've owned my Toyota Tacoma Xrunner since January. It's has been a joy to drive. The 4.0 is very nice with the six speed stick tranny. The hood scoop and low profile are excellent looks. The wide tires let this truck out corner many cars. I own 3 other trucks. Two are for work, the other is a full size Chevy. Well the Chevy just sits now. The Xrunner makes driving fun again. People love to talk to me about the truck. It really turns the heads.

Exterior design makes it a good looking truck. I was complimented several times on its design. Fun to drive on weekends but looks are deceiving. It claims 18/22 but it was more like 16/20 with the 4x4 TRD. The bilstein shocks made for a hard drive. Clutch pedal replaced with only 9000 miles after making squeaking sounds. Extended cab rather cramped for adults but adequate for children. Expensive to maintain especially with the suggested 3000 miles oil change along with dealer's "suggested" preventative repairs.

I have owned this truck for one year now and love it as much as the day I picked it up! Although it's not perfect it far exceeds all GM trucks I've owned, mechanically, reliably,and aesthetically. This truck works hard carrying weight 80% of the time and has performed flawlessly. After 50000KM I have had no problems whatsoever except for paint chips. Whether it be a result of poor paint (white) or to many gravel trucks, I don't know. Overall I am very happy with my first Toyota Tacoma.

This is my third Toyota pickup: 94 Hilux; 03 Tacoma; 05 Tacoma. My dealer is driving the 94 Hilux, a guy in town has my 03, and I am happy with my 05 Tacoma. These trucks never quit! I installed an aftermarket moon roof and the Dee Zees to offset the looks. Truck has good starting, no hesitation in acceleration, and offers a very smooth ride (I have the long bed double cab which has plenty of room).

The Toyota Taco is the best engineered automobile I've ever owned. It's like driving a car. A big car. Like a Cadillac. It's quiet on the highway and the big 16 inch tires and long wheelbase make it a dream to drive on a long trip. Seats are just right for my arthritic back, all controls are easy to reach. Maintenance is a dream - they even give you a drip catcher for the easy to reach (topside) oil filter. Only time will tell how this holds up under the freeze-thaw-snow-salt Pennsylvania winters. The 4X4 transfer case is a dream - just turn the switch. Mileage is kind of stinky if you're used to a car, but not bad for a 4X4, about 17mpg. It runs on regular gas just fine.

This is my third Toyota Truck. I've owned a '92 standard, a '01 Tundra, and now this one. I can't imagine a better overall vehicle! I own a courier service, and I'm planning on appearing in one of those "I got 500,000 miles and I'm still rolling!" ads. The new 2.7 engine is a marvel; it feels more powerful than the 3.4 six in my Tundra. I have no doubt this truck will do everything I ask and more!

I purchased my 2005 Tacoma Prerunner with 4-cyl/5M new after doing a lot of research from forums, specification reports, and going on test-drives. This is the model that looks like a 4- wheel-drive and has an extended cab (they call it the access cab). I can now say after having it for 17,000 miles that I am very disappointed in it for two reasons: actual vs. posted fuel mileage and wind noise with the latter being the primary reason I am selling it. I wanted only one vehicle to commute to work and haul music equipment. It had to be of high quality, above 25mpg highway fuel rating, and have adequate storage space (I assumed the ride would be reasonably quiet as are competitors models).

I have owned 8 cars and trucks in the last 5 years searching for the perfect vehicle. I am confident I have found it. I am a financial planner and a real estate investor. Further, I just had a son - making safety a real concern. This truck serves well in all capacities. The look of the truck is tough yet sophisticated enough to be proud pulling up to clients' offices. I can drive four grown men around town comfortably. The interior (front driver and passenger primarily) is comfortable and well thought out. When I am working on rental houses, the long bed allows room for tools, trash-outs, etc. The towing capacity is excellent.Ideal for weekend camping trips. 18/22mpg. Perfect vehicle? Great work, Toyota!

The door gaskets are terrible, the road noise is very loud-the faster you go more volume is needed on the CD or radio,also to much dirt, dust and road salt collect inside dr. jams. The paint chips very easily every where - it looks very thin. The seats feel like your sitting on layers of cardboard. Quality control experts should be fired for putting one of the most under rated and cheapest dunlap tires on this truck or any truck.

Toyota is the leader in small trucks. From the molded truck bed (not metal) to every feature right down to comfort. I have a very bad back, and have never been in discomfort after a long drive. The handling is superb. I can get into and out of small parking spaces with no problem. The truck is built sturdy. Rides like a dream. Takes heavy rain/snow slick roads heavily and safely (a reminder to readers: Careful driving in any vehicle is the main key factor). Fuel economy is excellent. The service by Toyota has been beyond excellence, right down to the personal reminders I receive when maintenance is due. Safety features built in give me peace of mind.

I have been driving trucks for exactly 20 years now. Through this time it has been my experiance that you have to give up performance to achieve a vehicle that is suitable for work. With the new Tacoma, those days are over. I have a Crew Cab, Pre Runner, with the TRD Sport package, a V6 and the SR5 set up. This truck not only tows my work trailer, (a 5' x 8' cargo loaded with cabinet installation tools),effortlessly, it's sharp to impress a date with, it handles like a dream and man will she fly when you turn her lose. I traded in an '02 Ford F150 with the 5.4L. Its payload was rated higher but other than that, this truck out performs hands down, and it's al ot more fun to drive!!!!!

Former full size truck owner that likes the quick steering, easy parking exceptional ride, performance of the V6, 4.0L and outstanding styling. A high clearance truck to take to the dirt roads, hauling gear or a fancy resturant with family and friends. I reviewed a number of mid-and full-size trucks and like the sporty styling, large space in the back seat of the Double Cab as well as extra storate under and behind the seat. I like the composite bed and tie-downs with optional bed divider and net to keep objects from sliding around. I have nerf bar steps for my 5'3" wife. And, installed a trailer hitch.

this is my first Tacoma truck, and second toyota vehicle after my 2004 Sienna. Very pleased with this truck,almost bought the Dodge/w hemi but so glad I did not!! Plenty of room for three kids,had an 04 double cab TRD but to stiff & to small. At first my wife liked the 04, but drove the 05 and loves it! No doubt best truck on the market today!!

I always wanted a Tacoma, mostly for the build quality...but the older models just weren't large enough for my 6' 2" and 240 lb frame. When they changed to the new body style, I had to go test drive it and WOW...was I amazed! I bought the truck with no regrets to date and with no problems either, I just rolled over 25,000 miles after 7 months...it's definitely a keeper. I like the overall handling, the ride, and the interior features and space. My wife enjoys it as well...can hardly get the keys out of her hands. I bought the Pre-runner model, she likes the way it sits up in traffic and how other vehicles get out of her way on the highway. Just a nice Truck!

I am overall happy with my Tacoma, unfortunately my vehicle has an on going engine vibration problem. I have been back to the dealer 5 times with no end in site. I have only had the truck for 3.5 months. Don't believe that imports are trouble free.

I have put 10k miles on my 05 DoubleCab Sport TRD. I haven't had any problems. No paint chips, leaks, or squeeks. The ride is great, for a truck. The engine is great and really accelerates off the line. The engine has a slight "tick" from the valve-train. Toyota says this is normal, but mine went away once I put on some mileage, replaced the stock oil filter with a Mobil 1 M-102 for better oil flow. I also switched to Amsoil synthetic. The Auto trans seems to get as good or better MPG than the Manual trans. I have gotten as much as 24 MPG. The computer will adjust accordingly to how you drive.

After 15 months of driving, I still grin from ear to ear when I climb into it! Gas mileage is great for a truck with this type of power. Wheelbase with 4 doors and the 6ft bed makes it tough to park but I'll live with that minor annoyance. I simply can't say enough about the quality and detail of the Tacomas. It feels like it will last forever. I did a lot of research in this segment before buying and when you educate yourself, you'll see that this is the right truck, hands down.

I bought a 1998 Tacoma and loved it, sold it for Jeep Grand Cherokee, when I saw the new Tacoma and drove a friend's I went and bought a new one two weeks later. I have only two complaints with the Tacoma. First, the cigarette light and the aux. power port are not live unless the key is in the acc or on position (can't charge my cell when out of the truck). Second, I live in Pennsylvania and when it's cold the motor idles high until the engine is warm (I'm a volunteer firefighter and the high idle causes a problem for quick response on cold nights). Toyota has only made a very good truck and made it better. Oh by the way, the 4cyl does very well with the increased size and weight.

I have wanted a truck for a while now and I did good to wait for this Tacoma after my ’99 Intrepid’s engine blew up. Excellent comfort in quad cab and my baby loves to sleep while I drive. The rev is low enough to keep the ride quite. The dog can finally go with me anywhere even while I put 8 snowboards in the long bed (great place to hang out as well). While not a gas eater like an 8 cyl, the TRD sport package engine is powerful enough for me to have towed a suburban with engine problem up and down hill in NC! It has averaged about 21 mpg with about 90% highway driving. I paid a little more for the roof rack and the side rails, but the look is very well worth it.

Owned many Toyota models and this is my biggest disappointment. Interior parts scratch easily. Wildly revving cold engine starts. Touchy clutch. Transmission very hard to down-shift into first when cold unless you are at a stop. When you finally get it in gear you will most likely smash your knuckles into the sharp edge the designer felt was practical to leave on the dash at the end of the shift lever's travel. A horror story for short driver/tall passenger combos. Knees will be smashed into the space hogging dashboard. Would it have killed Toyota's bottom line to put a split bench in this vehicle? If you are looking at this truck, do yourself a favor and get the Access cab.

I have the speedway blue with the sport package this has the hood scoop. I have people walk up to me all of the time to coment on the color and style of my truck. This makes you feel really good. I spend a lot of time on the highways around phoenix so I already know it looks good now the performance and comfert is outstanding. When I punch the gas at 70 mph it still sets me back in my seat. I am in my forties and have had a lot of cars and trucks and my tacoma is by far my favorate.

One hard working truck. All ways carries 1/4 ton Plus of emerg equip + supplies Fitted with RAIDER fiber glass canopy. Regularlly hauls a 6,000 lb hydraulic dump trailer. I contract out to the Forest service for supply hauls into the Idaho back country. During hunting season I made daily trips from 1800ft el to 5,000- 7000ft el. on back country narrow rough dirt roads. So far I have had no repairs needed. The 4X4 system with full time rear limited slip has not failed me yet. The V6 with the 5spd Auto is excellent at handling loads on steep down hill tracks just use it like a stick, it's better then a stick! I am actually getting 17-21 mpg. Does every thing Toyota claimed.

I am 6'4". I fit in the truck just fine, the problem is little room for my size 14 shoes, the toes hit the bottom of the dash. The telescoping steering wheel needs to come another 2-3" farther away from the dash. As is, with the seat all the way back, my arms at 10&4 are nearly straight, not that comfortable. In 5th gear, the stick knob is in the way of the temperature control. The gears are vague with the need to double clutch to get it into first at times. Otherwise, I am happy with the truck. There is plenty of power with the benefit of good gas mileage. Bed is great but cargo will skate around on slick surface. I'm hoping the frame won't rust in ten years.

I struggled driving a pickup too small to carry my kids (Mazda) and too large for me to feel lost (F-150). Then I found an '05 Tacoma - perfect! Had the most interior room of my three finalists (Colorado and Frontier). Well thought out interior with access doors and just enough room in back to carry my children on short runs (I don't recommend it for long trips). Plenty of storage and good power from the 2.7 engine while getting 21 mpg in local driving. The 4WD is great in snow. Love the flexibility of the pickup bed with movable cargo tie downs on front and side rails plus bed "D" hooks. The composite bed material looks promising - let's see how well it wears over time.

I have been a die hard Ford fan for nearly 20 years. My last vehicle was a 1999 Ford F150 supercab. I loved that truck until after a 100k miles it cost me approx. $5000. in repairs. I purchased a reman transmission and it failed me 2 times in approx. 3 weeks. I decided to purchase a 2005 Toyato Tacoma, because of the rave reviews! I am very pleased with the appearance of the truck, the room of the interior is much better than the Ford. The gas mileage is great, I have had the truck for almost a month now, and love looking down at the trip odometer when I have put 220 miles on a tank and still have 3/8 left, my ford would already need fuel. I believe that I could not of made a better choice!

Ordered mine took 9 weeks to get-sport model with 17" tires. Website said locking differential-according to dealer after I received -not available on long bed. Truck is way overrated as far as what it will do--quality of build is good but has had its share of warranty problems-three times to dealer so far for rattles-tough to keep 17 inchers balanced. Sport interior is kinda plain for 30 grand-but so are most toyotas.

The Tacoma is a very solid and well designed truck. I did exhaustive research (considered every truck available) for 1 full year prior to deciding to buy the Tacoma. I am very satisfied and certain I made the best choice. I needed a truck that was tough, reliable, economical (as reasonably possible), suitable for family transport (wife w/ 2 kids), with respectable load/towing specs. The sport-shift style transmission is great for towing as it (almost) allows the same level of control that a manual does. The Tacoma is a sensible, all- around great truck. It does everything well. It just looks solid/tough and actually is based upon my experience thus far.

If your looking for a midsize truck with selective features then the Toyota Tacoma is your truck. with 245 horsepower under hood the Tacoma will let you do a number of things such as go up a steep cliff, or tow a 6500 pound boat the Tacoma stands in your path. Weather its for fun or work.The Tacoma assures years and years of great performance. Also with 18 different styles and 9 colors one is bound to suit you. If I had to choose a midsize truck the Tacoma would honorably be my first choice.

16,000 miles in 6 months, no problems. Ride is a bit jarring at lower speeds over potholes, etc. Smooths out on freeway, you can go all day. Get 25-28 mpg on freeway, not much lower on two-lane roads. Decent stereo. I do not tow or haul, so can't comment on how this 4-banger handles that.

The fit, finish, and materials are very good. I've had no issues with workmanship or performance. This thing really moves! Handles great, brakes great, and the looks and stares I get driving around in the X are just priceless! Very good machine that needs that TRD supercharger to make it really shine. MPG not too shabby either at about 19 with mixed driving.

I am on my 9th Toyota and couldn't be happier with the truck. The V-6 has better acceleration and get-up, and has a better transmission than my 2004 Mustang V-6 :( The transmission is very smooth and strong. I got the TRD Off Road package and the ride is smooth. It doesn't bounce or ride hard like many other trucks. I love the overall quality, style and design. Toyota just does it right

What a great truck. Its beatiful, fun to drive and will probably last forever. Great acceleration, nice braking and handling. I got the upgraded JBL stereo and it sounds great. TRD sport package with the scoop on the hood looks killer. Fuel mileage is pretty good. I do a lot of in city driving and usually average around 18mpg, probably would be better if didnt like letting all horsepower loose. Its just so darn quick that I have to open it up every chance I get. I'm heading to Florida this week so I'll test the highway mileage to see if I get the advertised 22 mpg.

I love this truck! 25 mpg average and have not had one problem with it. I've owned it for 6 mths and have driven it 16,000 miles. I recently went on a 2500 mile trip and got 26 mpg,not bad for an 80 mph average. I've gotten 31 mpg driving 55 mph. Solid build quality, plenty of power and a joy to drive. If you want a truck that will last and is famous for going 300,000 miles + and last for 20 years + then buy the toyota.

My former truck was a V-8 Tundra, till my son put it through two trees doing 65MPH and managed to walk away. My Tacoma is a shortbed. Gas mileage isn't great but better than the Tundra, and it seems just as powerful with the new V-6. I've got the towing package and have towed with it happily a couple of times. 7000 miles so far and very pleased. My only objection is that I would have liked to have a manual transmission and Toyota doesn't put them in their double cabs. The composite bed is very nice, and I've already used the rails and removable clips several times. I also like the storage compartments behind the seat in back.

This truck has loads of power and rides comfortably. The dash and instrument panel is easy to read along with all the easy use of the accessories. Plenty of leg room for passengers in the front and rear.

I have been driving vehicles of all makes for years now. This is, BY FAR, the BEST vehicle I have ever owned. It has the most superior build quality ie: no squeaks or rattles, and is great looking too! All of the body lines are perfect too! Its performance is second to none (Even the V-8 Dakota can't out perform this V-6...if you don't believe this, then read all of the reviews.) The ride quality is superb, and the handling is right on the mark. Best of all it's a Toyota!

Truck drives like a car and v-6 gets on it like a v-8. The only thing I see is that the passenger shoulder belt makes noise as it hits the side of the door when not in use and you hit a bump or on a bumpy road. You have to take the head rest off the rear seats to fold down but thats only a lazy thing. Besides that, it was well worth giving my 93 Toy truck to my son and getting this 2005 Tacoma. By far the best and most fun vehicle I've ever had.

Had this truck since Aug. 2005. I did months of research before I bought this truck. The research paid off. Being at the end of the summer season, I was able to get the exact one down to the color and options that I wanted. I got the accurate gas mileage by filling it up, run for about 150 miles and fill it up again, and devide the miles into the gallons. I got 17.5 city, and 22mpg on a trip. Performance is great. The 0-60 time is 7.5 sec. Fast for a 4000lb truck. The ride, comfort, and handling, I think is great. Try it

I love my not-so-little red truck! Gas mileage is excellent! Never been under 24 for me, and sometimes is as high as 28. The 4 cyl has plenty of power as well. 4WD is easy to engage and provides extra pull in 4 low. The composite bed is an improvement. Plenty of space on the interior, even for me at 6'2" 230 lbs. This is a great buy for the price, assuming that it is as reliable as a Toyota should be.

This is my first truck, and I have got to say that it is the funnest vehicle I have owned. I have always had sport sedans/coupes but this time decided on a truck. This truck is sportier and as good handling as any car I've owned. Plus, I can off-road with it. Get lots of looks from pretty babes and jealous dudes! Comfort, ride, quality are great! Gas mileage is good being a V6 4x4. Great versatile to the hilt, utility/elegant/4 passangers/etc. You can do everything in this truck :) The interiors are great, the stereo is extraordinary with deep rich bass and clear and crisp trebble. A must have all round complete vehicle.

I have owned and driven trucks of all makes, mid-size and full size. My wife will drive nothing but Toyota cars. My most recent truck was a new design mid-size domestic model and I was very disappointed, most notably the fuel economy. I did not want another full size truck because I use one for everyday use and not for work. The new double cab Tacoma long bed suits my needs. I have owned it for one month and driven over 3,200 miles on the open road, hilly back roads, and city, and did so at 22 mpg for the month. It is good to be back in a Toyota.

This truck Is as Tough as the original Tundra. It only gets better gas mileage. It also has a 245 horsepower Engine.It also Includes a 282 foots torque. One thing I love about my new Tacoma is its Deck Rail System, it makes carring lugage less of a hassel. To my opinion this truck rocks. It will give atleast 22miles to the gallon. Even the next tacoma will not be as appealing as this truck. I love it!

I love my 2006 Tacoma Access Cab 4X4. This truck is awesome! The V-6 has plenty of power and the gas mileage on 1st tank was 19 MPG mostly city driven. I traded in a 2005 Acura TL and this truck rides smoother than the TL did. I have owned 6 chev Z71's and a 2004 Ford F150 and the Toyota is my favorite.

Great package incorporating two real areas for seating adults and a bed that is usable for most of my homeowner duties. My wife loves the driving height, seat position and comfort. At 6'4" it is very comfortable for me even in the rear seat. The upgraded radio sounds incredible. Gas mileage for a truck, 22 MPG on hwy and 19 MPG around town is more than I expected. With only 1200 miles I am told it will get better but I am not counting on it. Unlike some other reviewers I did read the manual and you can change the keyless entry to give a chirp when activating the alarm.

PreRunner 4dr Access Cab TRD Off Road, love the height of the vehicle. Great clearance, cabin space, wheels, engine. It seems like it's a vehicle that will last for a very long time. Moved up from a GMC 98'Jimmy and feel very happy with the change. My wife loves this new truck. I can't wait to accessorize it with all the toys for the bed and the cabin. It's a little bumpy though for the streets in Puerto Rico, although I think all pickups are (first pick-up). Got around 18mpg on my first tank, we'll see how it goes on.

Have only had my Tacoma for 3 months now, but have taken my family of 4 on a 2200 mile trip to Washington DC and it was fantastic!! Plenty of room for both boys in the back with the videos and games, plenty of room up front for my wife and I. The mileage was 2mpg better than the sticker both in town and on the hwy. The truck is definitely a headturner. If I could afford another one for my wife, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

The larger mid-sized truck is the design compromise I’ve been waiting for. It gets far better mileage than a full-size and it’s definitely easier to park in the ever-shrinking spaces. It’s a comfortable ride with power to spare driving around town and it has the beef to pull a trailer up the mountains. I’ve added a new fiberglass topper and now I get 19/22 plus mpg. The TRD package provides remarkable factory off-road performance with locking differential, skid plates, ample ground clearance, and suspension. The on-board generator, composite bed, and yes - the cup holders are the attention to detail I expect from a well-built truck. The styling and dark blue color turn heads everywhere I go!

Just bought this vehicle, my fourth. Really enjoy driving it, although the steering wheel seems a little low. Need to be able to adjust more.The leg room could also be a little more roomier as the brake pedal is kind of close to the gas. Guess I'll get use to it since I traded my 2003 in!

Just bought my truck and it is proving to be exceptional! Total comfort, excellent ride, sleek lines, powerful engine, great turn radius. Thoughtful extras as the mulitude of cup and water bottle/soda bottle holders, sunglass holder, extra storage area under the back seats, sliding adjustable ties downs in the bed,large storage compartment between the seats. The cabin of the truck feels large and the seats give good support and leg room. Driving a truck is actually a pleasure again.

I have had the truck for a month and have put about 2400 miles on it. I chose the 4.0 and 6 speed manual. I picked the TRD Off Road 4X4 so I could get the following options I wanted. The 110 volt plug in the back is sweet, but should run off of a seperate battery, allowing the truck to be turned off while using it. The BF Goodrich tires were a requirement. Wanted the rear locker, although I am a bit disappointed (in the sand anyway). Still needed 4x4 to get around. Driving lights were also a desired extra. They add considerably in deer country. The truck overall is everything I wanted. Love the ride, manuverability and everything else aside from the lack of a 6th seat. Recommend.

I absolutely love my New Toy.. It drives like a champ, feels good and looks good as well. I love the Trd package also. I couldn't be happier.. so glad I choose this truck over the others that i test drove.. you just can't go wrong with a Toyota....I also love all the room in my trick.. It has plent of room for my kids, and their friend in the back seat,it's a full back seat very comfortable.. This truck is awesome. I get so many compliments of the truck and the color I chose which is speedway blue. It stands out in a crowd of all types of vehicles and it has the power to pass all of them. Gas mileage is pretty bad though. It handles quite well off road with its TRD suspension and fairly high stock ground clearance. It beats all of its competition in most categories. and its a Toyota.
