Always felt like this was the right size car for me. It has enough acceleration that made me comfortable merging into traffic. The all wheel drive gave me comfort when dealing with snowy and wet roads. The light interior with a dark blue exterior is a cheerful look and feel. With the sunroof it made it even more desirable.

In 2005 Subaru introduced a new body style and terrific turbo 2.5 liter engine. With a combination of high performance and good fuel economy along with leather seating, fine sounding sound system and a few options like a short throw shifter the Subaru Legacy GT is truly a forgotten gem.... Built for fun and built to last!

I got the opportunity to own this silver beauty for much less that blue book from someone I know. I got it at 75k and have driven it over the 200k mark, so Ive experienced the worst miles the car goes through. The good side is; the long highway miles Ive put on the car driving 200 miles a day for 6 months were amazing. I got 35+ MPG , and the car practically drives its self, its so well balanced, precise handling and smooth. It almost gives Audis and lexuses a run for the money in the handling and comfort department, but that's where it ends. The interior was worn thin when I got the car and now its falling apart everywhere; the driver side power window went first, then the glove box wouldn't close, rattles in the dash, the trunk lining is hanging by a thread and the window sills of the doors have been ripped to shreds by my small dogs claws. Maintenance has been absurd; failed Power steering pump, AC compressor, water pump, blown head gasket, loose u joints in the axle, 50k mile valve cover changes, 20k mile tire changes, 20-30K mile spark plug wires changes and poor gas millage due to a bad 02 sensor. These are all common problems that plague the Subaru boxer engine and especially the 2.5 liter of any model or year, and it all comes down to bad design decisions that compromise reliability and longevity. The biggest annoyance with Subarus is the check engine light. 'When' it comes on, the cruise control stops working, which is a nightmare on long highway commutes. Don't bother taking your car to the dealership to get the error cleared either; they will charge you $50-100 for the privilege. I was recently forced to sell the car cheep, due to a crushingly high repair bill when the head gasket, drive shaft, o2 sensor and water pump all spontaneously died right before the state inspection was due. Exactly a year earlier I had spent $2000+ on a repair bill due at inspection, and I had to cut my losses. The first thing the buyer asked was (who happened to be a Subaru mechanic); Had the head gasket been replaced recently. This makes it pretty obvious that there's a huge fundamental flaw in the engine. The boxer engine by nature is unreliable; the fluids are in constant contact and pressure with the valve cover seals and head gasket. This mean they can quickly be deteriorated by impurities in the fluids, which caused most of my problems. Its a cascade affect; oil leaks in the valve cover = bad spake plugs and cables = bad o2 sensor = blown head gasket.

Great Car! Bought a 2005 Legacy GT Limited Wagon for my college daughter. 100,000 miles on it, but was well cared for by an adult owner. Interior looks new, and paint is flawless. Turbo engine is powerful and car is fun to drive. Built quality of a Subaru is second to none. Overall, could not be happier. Did know that at this mileage I would need to replace the timing belt/water pump/drive belts and also needs new spark plugs. Cannot complain, as this is normal maintenance items.

I just traded my 2005 Legacy GT sedan in which I had bought new in 05. I didn't want to get rid of this car. I loved driving it. SO much fun! However, it was not without problems. Within the time I had it there were many electrical problems. The biggest one was a throttle sensor went. This almost caused some serious accidents until they could figure out what was going on. The seat heaters went out. The power windows went out. The radio display lights went out and also would lock up on me. The power steering fluid had leads and the CV boots cracked. I traded it in for a 2012 Acura TSX wagon because I wanted to end our relationship on a high note before dumping more $$ into repairs.

Bought mine and started out loving it. You will soon regret that thought. Wheel bearings, turbo, clutch, timing belt, interior plastics, all went to hell after only 60k miles. I replaced th tires one time and they lasted a mere 20k miles. Treated this car like a baby, only synthetic, premium gas and drove it carefully. Seems like check engine light was always on, car was in ecellent condition when I god rid of it, traded it on a new acura, I feel bad for whoever buys the piece of junk. My 2001 BMW 740 is supposed to be high matinance, but this car proved that wrong and now I appriciate my BMW way more. Very dissapointed in Subaru, my $57,000 acura is less to insure than this thing too.

I bought this car used with 86000 miles, now has 96000 miles. The cars only issue is a whining noise from the engine that I hear only when it is cold. This noise goes away after about 3-4 min of warm up.I live in Montana where there are serious long distance stretches of open highways and I just love the way this car holds the road it feels almost as if its on rails but still rides comfortable. The 250 hp engine really gives it up when you need it.The manual transmission is such a perfect match to the engine that turbo lag is never an issue. After 4 1/2 months I still love it every time I get behind the wheel. Now winter is here and the car is proving its all weather capabilities in the snow.

This is the most performance for the $ you can possibly have on 4 wheels. Read the reviews - said about that. However, the 05 model and possibly others has a major problem with turbo failure, which is not the fault of the turbo but a design failure by Subaru. This is fact and other buyers and independent mechanics agree - read forums. This a $3000 repair by the dealer but you can usually find used or aftermarket turbos for $500 and have a mechanic install it but it is likely to fail again without modificaitons to the oil tubing. Bottom line is change your oil often <3000mi and buy a spare turbocharger. Out of 115,000miles, this is my only complaint (failure just outside 60k warranty period)

Love the lines and the style of the car, bought mine used with 70,000 miles on it. First few hours i owned it the transmission sensors failed... fine cars have issues sometimes. later on started to notice electrical issues with the lighting dimming on its own or the radio controls not working when you hit the buttons. in the past year , i have replaced the turbo, the ac condensor because it seized and shredded all the belts and tore through the electrical, the transmission had to be rebuilt, and now the wheel bearings are going.... I must have gotten a lemon.... Love the car other than these issues. about to trade it in. Stay away from the turbo Automatics they have major issues!!!

When my 1998 Subaru wagon bit the dust (failed transmission) after 168K miles, I decided to buy the new sedan, in late 2004. It now has over 60,000 miles and is still running well. This car provides the best mix of comfort, performance, fuel economy and road grip/stability that I have come across. I travel a lot and have used a number of rental cars (many brand new), but the Subaru beats them all. Highway fuel economy is at 29mpg, provided I keep at or below 65mph. Acceleration is good when I flip to Sports mode, enabling me to join the freeway from the ramp with lots of power to spare, and agility and road grip make me feel safe. Truly fun car to drive for the money, and very safe.

We bought this car used in 2008. I negotiated the full warranty for a new car, 6 yrs and 100,000 miles, it expired in in october 2010 and soon after our transmission fluid and oil covers both leaked. Cost $500 to fix. It has been solid, but not what we expected. It is our first subaru and we are hoping to get 150K miles out of it. We bought with 45K and now have 75K. A few other nuiances are breaking down too but nothing major. I hope this last repair shop visit will last.

I dont know about the turbo model, but the non-turbo base was 19k out the door. With that considered, any minor defect this ok with me if it get fixed under warranty. Car has been good, great handling, plows through snow and rain and the design is nice. Engine power is pretty weak but at 28 mpg average (with AWD mind you) is a pretty good trade off. Some of the minor issues with mine. Some kick panels in the interior were not assembled correctly and I had to fix them myself, dash rattle, and 2 wheel bearings went bad under warranty. Other than that not a single problem. Shade tree mechanics will find the car easy to work on, brakes, oil, plugs all easy to service.

We look around for a new car fro almost 4 months before we both the gt. We have know 158,000 km on the car and have replaced 4 turbo's and are on our 3 engine. At 120,000 we had a the last turbo replace and then moved again. 18,000 km later the engine had a broken piston and needed to be rebuild once again. Phoned Subaru Canada they told us that they could see that we had a lot of bad luck with the car as all records are kept on there computers. But because we moved and lost our maintenance records and only could show them the records for the service work that we did after the new turbo was put in they did not help us. We have had rebuild but are not trusting the car any more and traded in.

I bought this car used in 2009. Now has 76,000 miles. Now, 5 years later the car runs just like new sill. The paint isn't the best but every car now has bad paint. There is only one rattle but only comes once in a long time other wise everyday its quiet. Some people complain about wind noise because of frame less window but I don't hear and I know there is no wind noise unless its 30 mph winds but even cars with framed windows will here that. Seats are comfortable for shorter trips. It doesn't have all the new toys that 2010 cars now have but you don't need it. Like back-up camera, gps, mp3, push start etc. If you can drive without the new toys this is a good car to buy with awd standard

Long time Subaru owner- this 05' Legacy GT-bought new, had for 4.5 yrs & sad; by far a let down, poor quality of electronics & mechanically. So far w/ just 60k miles I have replaced CV half shaft, Power steering pump, stereo, ac unit, main window switch, seat belt unit, tires x2, brakes, the lights by the shifter stopped being lit at 20k & now the power steering is going again & its running warm. She has shifted hard coming out of 1st, it feels like I'm being rear-ended =( windshield rattled- dealership fixed. She was well maintained, not ran hard at all. Just a total let down and a reminder never to buy after the release of a new redesign wait a couple years until they get the kinks out.

This is a nice car, safe, big and heavy, but it's fast. The 2.5 turbo is probably one of the top 10 engines out there. If you step on it hard, it takes a second then hold on! Passes anything on the highway and goes anywhere you want it to. It's a subaru so it is reliable. The only issue is now it makes a loud humming noise past 35 mph. Maybe a wheel bearing. The mileage is not good...maybe 15 around town :(But hey, it's a big heavy AWD car with 250 hp.

I bought my 2005 subaru legacy gt new. This was my first time ever buying a new car. The turbo blew in March "09", they fixed it after proving I proporaly maintained it. Dec. 09 it went again. They replaced it went to test drive it and the timing jumped and blew my cam shaft and valves, they also found metal in the oil pan from the turbo. Now I am getting a hard time for proper replacement, instead of replacing the parts new (short block and the damage from poor mechanic installation) they want to put a used motor with more mileage and no history of how well it has been taken care of. I would never buy another subaru or recommend one to anyone.

The Subaru has rattled and squeaked from the beginning, the fit of the glove box and center console is a joke, the paint started to fade after 6 months, the drive shaft has had to be replaced, it took Subaru 4 times to get that right, brakes are anemic and the pads now are in need of replacement. The engine has stalled, stuttered, and bumbled along at 2500 rpm, from the beginning, so much for performance. A mistake to buy, never again.

Bought my 05 Legacy GT limited about 5 months ago. I have owned/driven many different make/model cars including Subaru's. This one is a great improvement in terms of looks / performance / amenities compared to older versions. Subaru has been very smart to replace Volvo and Saab, and also sell cars right under the noses of Toyota/Honda/Nissan (Sad, the other 3 brands are suffering from declining quality. I wish made in the U.S. meant the same thing it did 30 years ago. My gripes: As new, it is overpriced. Still, reliability/build quality is below other Japanese cars. Cutting corners in interior / mechanical / material quality is stupid. People are not dumb.

My van got about 26 mpg and i fueled up every two weeks to top off a 20 gal tank. This car has seems to be getting better mileage. I agree with the others comments about the great ride and design so I will not repeat them. I just wish I bought this car instead of my Venture Van or Honda Accord. Sold my van becuase the engine gasket started leaking oil at about 50k mi. This car has more miles on it and the engine is clean.

My wife and I have owned this Scoobie for 4 years next month. While we love the car and truly love Subarus this car has had some annoying issues that the dealers can't seem to fix. Our car has been in three times for an annoying rattle in the dash. It apparently disappears when the service techs look at it (rolling eyes). The front brakes squeal when the ambient temperature is above 60 outside. I've replaced everything and they still squeak. Oh, the clutch went out at 38000. My wife and I know how to drive stick well and do not abuse the car. But this one let go at a very young age. Kudos to Subaru though for not stiffing us with the whole $1100 bill.

I have had the Subaru GT Ltd for about 9 months. I absolutely love this car, it fits me like a glove and drives like no other car I have ever had. It is classic, conservative, but with an attitude that I can turn on with a little pressure on the gas. I blow the doors off the hot little Hondas and German cars. The handling is tight and I love cruising around in it. However, things came crashing down after taking it thru a car wash. The ECU, bulkhead wire harness, integrated unit have been replaced and who knows what else is needed, certainly not the dealers or the Subaru expert knows why it will not start, or not run for more than 30 min. It has been in the shop for the past 9 weeks.

I bought this car after owning two Acuras (1998 CL and 2002 TL). I like quality, safe, reliable but high performance cars. This Subie has been the best car I have ever owned. It is also a very stealth mobile in that hardly anyone recognizes what this car is and what it can do. It gets decent mileage for what it is (a high performance car). It so fun to drive and is sure-footed in the snow and ice in Kansas City. It climbed up a serious incline on 14th Street in KC during a major ice snow without hesitation while all the other drivers were spinning their tires. My advice if you live in a snowy or icy area in the winter is to have two sets of tires (the stock Potenzas and good snow/ice tires).

I wasn't really looking for a Subaru, altough I always liked the style; but I test drove one at a dealer almost by coincidence and that was it. I did what you are not supposed to: fall in love with the car. If you want to stand out of the crowd using regular and common Camrys, Accords, and Altimas, this is the car for you. Fun to drive, excellent handling, sporty style, and the AWD is excellent for my city where we get a lot of snow. A little bit small interior for big guys (I'm 6' and I don't have much room left). I'm impressed with the mpg given the AWD capabilities. Now I understand why some people say "once you get into a Subaru, you'll never leave".

I bought my LGT brand new almost 3 years ago, and I still think this car is one of the best kept secrets. I've had so many complements on its looks, and everyone is surprised when they hear it's a Subaru. The AWD gives you more confidence on the road, even though the stock allseason tires aren't the best. The black interior is nice, and the cloth seats have held up well for 40000 miles. It has great acceleration, even when it was stock, but there was noticeable turbo lag. The manual shifting on the auto is nice, but there is hesitation. Gas mileage could be better but you pay to play. Warranty repairs: driver seat heating elements coming through foam twice, O2 sensor, dash rattle (not fixed

Ok car overall but amazing in the snow.

If you are some one who needs a solid commuter car and deals with a lot of bad weather look no further. The car's boxer engine does a great job when you pass someone on the highway. What really is a disappointment is the low end torque, it is non existent. If you are like me and need that torque to get up to speed quickly on the highway with short on ramps then this is not the car for you. Even in a manual it struggles. Passing traffic amazing but no torque. Gas mileage is excellent and the all wheel drive can handle almost anything. Headlights went out twice but dealer was great and replaced. What I do not get is why the backseat does not fold down. Major problem with kids.

I bought my Sub after seeing so many in the mountains of California. I now live in Alabama and I love driving it all year round, but it is definitely a cold weather car! The vents blow warm air so I have to keep the AC on all the time in the spring, summer and fall. The AC has a hard time keeping up with the 100+ degree weather and high humidity. But it handles great in the torrential downpours we get here and I wouldn't trade it.

This is my 3rd Subaru, and is by far the best to date. I had a 96 outback, then a 2004 Outback 2.5 limited, but this car blows them away. The turbo kicks in quickly, and will give you the tell-tale neck jerk! The interior is such a beautiful hole poked tan leather, you want it at home. I was never a fan of blue cars, but the regal blue looks great with the 17" wheels and lo-pro tires. Huge sunroof! Buy one!!

Almost a year and a half and zero problems. Fast and fun. My second subie, my first turbo. This is not your typical wagon, that's for sure. Handles great, even in winter months. The Bridgestone re92 stock tires are all right - nothing great yet decent all around. Rarely have anyone in back seats so cannot comment on leg room. Dash layout is great and good looking. Tons of room. Can put just about anything in this car. The ride can be a little rough for someone with a bad back on longer trips but it's a GT and is supposed to have a stiff suspension so you cannot complain about things like that. All around A++.

This is our 2nd Subaru. Our first Subaru was a tank, we loved it, 100K+ and never had a problem. Unfortunately that was not the case with this car. 30k+ should yield better build quality and better service. Dash rattles and the dealer and Subaru will do nothing. The radio has been replaced twice and still does not work correctly. The homelink mirror failed. The gauge illumination changes by itself. Cruise control fails regularly and the dealership(s) can't find anything. This car could be so much better but now that it is has 39000 miles on it and is out of warranty we are getting rid of it. I don't thing we will ever buy anothe Subaru.

The only issue that I have had with this car is thaat the a headlight will burn out every six months or so. I am not too crazy about the gas mileage, but with the way it can zoom around, I overlooked it. Due to the fact that there aren't that many Subarus around in comparison to the rest of the cars on the road, people always ask me, "What kinda car is that?" I answer, and they return a strange look. I guess some people have a bad view of subarus. All in all, a good car, solid ride, and decently comfortable.

Awesome driver's car! Very quick, stable and predictable. Drives like a sports car. Great heater. 100% reliable so far with 20K miles. Excellent in snow, we had 3 feet in one snowfall last week, and with a 400' driveway it has to be good. Be aware that the 17" tires are fairly expensive and if you need extra wheels for snow tires, you will have to get alloys. No steel wheels available as far as I could tell, and I tried locally and on-line. Very comfortable seats. Mine was a program car with 12,000 miles on it when I bought it and now has 20,000 miles on it. No one will regret buying this car. It does everything very well and I know of no weaknesses except rear visibility.

Pros: All in all this is a good car with exceptional handing abilities. It is a fine car and holds the road well. The turbo engine is super when it kicks in. The car is quiet and clean. Cons: Expensive to maintain especially the tires. Turbo burns premium unleaded. Somewhat narrow (hip room) front seating. Typical turbo lag. Fuel economy could be better for a car this size.

First Subaru and boy I am impressed. In 1.5 years of ownership I have had zero problems. In combination driving average about 28 mpg. On a trip depending on how fast we drive we can get around 32 mpg. The car can be a little cramped on a log trip especially if you have more than one passenger. Rear seat room is tight. I am 6-1" and wish that there was a little more leg room for the driver. In summary, great car.

After driving BMW's, Corvettes and Audis, I needed something that would drive well in all weather conditions, including snow and ice, and yet give me good performance with superior reliability and that was also fun to drive. The Legacy GT wagon with the turbo and 5 speed short throw stick is all of the above and then some. I highly recommend it, and at the price, there simply isn't anything else that comes even close. Bought the car in March '06. Got the manual GT wagon after hearing complaints about the automatic. Awesome acceleration, balanced handling and quick, accurate steering make the car great on the back roads or on long trips. Holds a ton of stuff, especially with the seats folded flat. Currently 8600 miles on the odometer with 24.6 mpg average so far. Have managed over 28 mpg on long trips. Only problems have been tires with severe flat spots (dealer replaced with no hassle) and slight engine hesitation / stuttering at 2500-3500 rpm under hard acceleration (have read about this problem on the message boards, no fix so far and Subaru claims this is normal).

Bought the 2.5 GT wagon in April. So far love the car. Fun to drive. Very well designed and built. Gas mileage not the best plus needs premium. Managed to reach 27 mpg on highway. Main annoyance is the remote that is poorly designed and too sensitive. Car locks and unlocks when it is in my pocket. Brakes started vibrating after 50 miles. Subaru fixed them at no charge. Same vibration starting again at 6900 miles.

The dealer is 200 miles away, but the service was superior to any closer dealers. The power is fantastic - roll on from any speed and you have lots of it. The car could use a few niceties, such as stereo controls on the steering wheel, memory seats and a little more rear leg room. Other than that, it has been reliable, fun to drive and comfortable. We just returned from a family vacation of 3000 miles return trip. Not many complaints from my wife and daughter.

Brand new car from the beginning burns oil - 1600-2400 miles/quart on average. According to the dealer, Subaru specs allow oil consumption of 1000 miles/quart before they want to fix the problem. No drips - just occasional stench of oil belching for my driving pleasure. My 1997 Outback with 80,000 miles never ate oil. Will never purchase a Subaru again.

I've owned this car for a bit over a year now. Here's the short-attention-span review. - Very good engine performance. - Good handling, although the rear suspension could be firmer. - Good brake feel and feedback, easy to modulate. - Great to have a sport wagon with a manual transmission. - Good, but not great seats. At least they're cloth! (I hate hot/cold, sticky/slippery leather seats). - Awful climate control. With the AC on, it doesn't give you air at one temperature, but pulses alternating HOT and COLD air. - Bad driving position. Lack of a telescoping steering wheel really hurts. - Electronic throttle not ready for prime-time. - 26 mpg hwy, not so hot.

Going on two years with our legacy GT LTD. Sweet car, super fast... when I drive our other car, I miss the acceleration. Turbo lag is slightly noticeable, but once the turbo kicks in, it's smile time. Handling is great, acceleration is great, driving it in the mountains is super fun. AWD is great also, but get the snow tires if you live in an icy area... the standard tires don't handle worth anything on ice. Get the short throw shifter, also. This car is a lot of fun for a very low cost compared to the G35 and Acura RL. The gas mileage isn't too heinous, we average about 25mpg, less if you're really thrashing it.

Recently purchased a new 2005 Legacy GT Wagon mid March of '06, guess it was a holdover from last year. This car has been back to the dealership 5 times, originally for check engine light as well as the cruise light. I also experienced shaking and loss of power each time. June 30, 2006, it went back AGAIN for same problem. I also didn't have the vehicle for approximately 15 days because of a rattle behind the dashboard which turned out to be some kind of 'cracked foam' right behind the firewall. I have as of today sent my 'certified Lemon Law letter' to the company hoping to get them to take back this UNSAFE vehicle. Not sure if I would get a Subaru again. To be continued.

Picked up this '05 Subaru in March. The good: performance, looks, handling, utility. The bad: gas mileage, low ground clearance, turbo lag or engine revving in automatic. The ugly: For over 2 weeks it was in for a rattle behind dash, which was then entirely removed, and waited for new 'foam' piece. The back for 'check engine light' twice. Have the car back now for 1 week and hope nothing else goes wrong. This is my second Subie because I think I got a good price since last year's model, and was less than the Audi A3 or A4 with awd. Performance is good though gas mileage stinks. And I don't like the way the auto transmission revs then shifts. I find myself using the paddle buttons or sport-shift.

Awesome car; terrific bargain; tuner-ready! Needs: AWD family and fun to drive vehicle (and I AM a sports car fanatic!). Considered: Audi S4 Avant (too pricey, too unreliable); BMW 330Xi and 5 series wagons (no manual transmission, slow compared to LGT); STI (wife wouldn't ride in it; too garishly styled; bit small for ski trips with kids). LGT Limited Wagon: beautiful as is; modified (ECU tuning; uppipe, downpipe, exhaust, tires, gauges, springs) a 320 HP/360 ft/lbs torque supersports wagon! Terrific aftermarket and enthusiast community for this car. Love it all the way!

I had a 2000 Audi A6 Biturbo and then upgraded to a 2003 Allroad, before I finally got smart and got the Subaru GT. It is just as quick as the Audi's, with more road nose, while the interior materials and finishes are 80% of the Audi's. The Subaru does not handle nearly as well as the Audi, but there are no mystery 45 MPH wobble, don't have to have the brakes replaced every 5,000 miles, and no electrical problems. (all of which plagued both my Audi’s) As a consumer I would say that Subaru took the A4 – A6 and copied as much as they could to make an inexpensive version that is much more reliable. All in all the Subaru GT has been a great choice for my family, but I do miss the A6 Biturbo

Excellent performance. Great cornering, very stable on the road. Capable of very rapid changes in speed. Only reservations -- manual seat controls and seat structure. On a trip in excess of two hours the seats have poor to no vertical movement control. As the seats are low it is difficult to be comfortable. Worse the passenger seat base will not go back far enough to accommodate long legs. In the driver's seat, I find the left foot rest to be too high in relation to the gas pedal for long ride comfort. Passenger seat base is lower to floor than driver's seat base which affects rear passenger comfort (cannot with comfort put feet under front seat).

I looked at a lot of vehicles before deciding on the Legacy. Audi, BMW, VW; but none compared to this vehicle for the price. This car has good interior room, with easy folding rear seats. The performance is excellent, especially in the manual with the short throw shifter. The fuel economy is a little less than what I expected, but the range on the tank is not good. I only get about 19-20 MPG with a range of just less than 300 miles. The AWD is wonderful in the Midwest winters. Overall, very pleased with the car so far and would consider another Subaru in the future.

The best thing about this car is its performance. Two hundred and fifty foot- pounds of torque accelerate the car very easily. And it's at a relatively low 3600 RPM. At 55 mph in fourth gear, and 70 mph in fifth gear, you are right at 3000 rpm; it is just begging you to hammer the throttle. So you are always on the lookout for a Maxima or G35. The brakes are smooth and precise. But best of all is the cornering power. Turn in just under the front tires limit and you get very mild understeer. Squeeze the throttle and feel the rear tires' slip angles increase. Start unwinding the steering wheel as you pass the apex and straighten it as you pass the trackout point under full song. AWESOME BALANCE!

What other car can go 0-60 in 5.7 sec with the same build quality, all wheel drive, etc. for under $25k? This car will spank 3 series BMW's. People complain about the tires, but I find them to be decent for what I paid. Yes they wear out quickly, but it is because people who own this car push it to its limits. If you were to drive slowly (which is impossible for me in this car) your tires would last much longer. Overall, highly recommended. Trust me and test drive one!

Picked the car up in Dec. '05 as a new '05 model, The dealer was more than enthusiastic to unload the car (last year's model) and now I am more than enthusiastic to drive the car like it was meant to be driven. Power from the turbo-4 is more seamless than any turbo I've driven before. The engine is almost too quiet -- I've stalled it a couple of times because I can't hear the engine. As for fuel economy concerns, they are simply a matter of right foot activity. Lay off the accelerator, and it will give you 30mpg plus in highway driving. But where's the fun in that?

Oh My!

Bought the '05 Legacy GT 3 months ago. My wife and I liked it a lot right off the bat, and now, after 3500 miles, we like it even more. No buyer's remorse in this house. Seriously fast, AWD handles like a dream in all kinds of terrain and weather, restrained but classy interior and exterior, great build quality and very adequate safety features. This is our first Subaru, and it's certainly different from some of the older ones so beloved by many of our friends. We're glad we didn't pay the extra bucks for the runners-up. For one thing, being less popular, it doesn't look like Everyman's 'cheap' Beemer or Audi. Respectable adults with a delinquent residue -- go for it!

This car is fun to drive. Have had quite a bit of trouble with little things. Had the check engine light come on in the first 1000 miles of driving. Well, if any of you have had this problem you know that the cruise control does not work. Not good for long trips. Fuel pump went bad. In the shop three times for cruise issues. Do a lot of travel and not having cruise stinks. Had to adjust drivers window due to high pitch noise. Would not buy these high priced cars again. Does not hold value very much like other cars.

Compared this to the Infiniti G35, Infiniti FX35/45, Volvo S40/60, and so on, and I found this "non-badge" car to be superior. I have a bad back, so comfort was critical, and the car delivered that and performance.

Needing a four wheel drive vehicle, but wanting a sedan and not spending a fortune I chose the Legacy GT LTD. I do love driving this car. As a point of reference I do a lot of highway driving up mountains and going uphill I average 28 mpg, 31 mpg downhill, both with A/C on. A recent downhill trip without A/C proved 34 mpg.

I had been eyeing this car up for almost a year before I decided to buy it. You don't see many of them on the road because Subaru isn't exactly a household name, but I'm glad they've kept this car a secret. I put over 500 miles on the car in the first week of ownership because it is so fun to drive. I feel bad leaving it in the garage. It begs to be driven!

I got this car as an alternative to a "real" car because it was a practical alternative to a gas guzzling SUV or a more expensive Audi or BMW. I thought I needed the wagon for my lifestyle, but I wish I'd bitten the bullet and just went for an Audi, got a bike rack and drove on down the road. This car is NOT fun to drive, although it sounded good on paper.

WOW what a blast to drive. I looked at 6 different makes of vehicles, but I kept coming back to the Legacy. Sporty and comfortable with plenty of room (I'm 6'3"). Not bad MPG if you can keep your foot "out of it": 25 mpg with a 50/50 mix of city to highway usage.

This car is just awesome! My friend has a WRX, and the Legacy GT is the WRX, but with style. Has many luxury features for far less money than you see on other cars like Acura, BMW, Audi. I'm still young, so insurance is a big thing; well I'm sorry, but a 4 banger with a turbo putting' out 250 HP... thats a sports car! But it's not considered one, and because ALL Legacy's have a 5 star crash rating, insurance companys love that and insurance prices are very good. Different story if you get yourself a Mustang or 350Z.

Looked at a lot of cars, never owned a Subaru before. Checked out the Legacy and was impressed with price, features and looks, not to mention AWD. Have had the car 2000 miles now and I'm pretty satisfied. Average mileage says 24.3 on avg on the onboard computer, handles nice and smooth, nice storage for golf clubs, nice onboard computer and digital compass in rearview mirror; little short in leg room - emergency brake hits thigh and dead pedal is a little short in height (I wear size 11), floormat hook sticks up too far catches my shoe, a/c is weird - will blow ice cold/then not so cold/ice cold/not so cold in a cycle (dealer says this is normal!),

OK car. My 1st Subaru. Not as solid/precise as my 1999 Honda Civic or my 2001 Nissan Pathfinder. Good gas mileage (avg. 24/25 mpg). Good interior, nice looking, car can be modified easily (springs/sway bars/intake/exhaust/shifter). The engine needs more power, Subaru has that is in the works (Forester gets the upgrade in 2006).

I had a 96 subaru, traded it for the 2005 I never had any problems during the time with the 96. Was never in the shop for anything!! Maintenance Free, other than 3,ooo mi.oil changes and I did have the timing belts changes @60,000 for maintenance, it was a gem! So I knew that my new car was going to be another Subaru

I could not be happier with my new legacy! The car is gorgeous inside and out with a thoughtful design and high end features one would find in a luxury sedan. Some of my favorite features include the moonroof, heated seats, and leather interior. The car handles beautifully. The AWD really grips the road on turns and the car handles like a German sedan with great road feel. The car also has ample power, it accelerates nimbly on the highway and from a stop, especially in sport mode. The cabin is very tight and very quiet, there's no rattling or noise. Overall, I am thrilled with the car and I feel very secure driving it!

Oh, BTW, I do drive a 3.0 liter BMW X-5 and this Subie is equally as much fun to drive for a heck of a lot less money! Like $22K less? Being a 4 time Subaru owner I have come to expect reliability and value. This car gives you a bonus by throwing in performance. For a few hundred more Cobb Tuning offers a solution to address some lagging and improve boost ... all without getting your hands dirty. While you're at it, don't forget a K&N stock replacement filter. The performance you will experience will once again justify your decision to purchase this car. Where else will you find an AWD sedan that is under $30K, stays out of the shop, but can humble the G35x, 330xi, and A4? I am thankful Subaru has stepped up and shown themselves as a company that can offer it all.

This is our fourth Subaru. We purchased this one for its new design, especially the interior and its many appointments and options. Subaru has always had an unbeatable AWD system, and this one is no different. I've never felt more comfortable driving in poor weather conditions than in this car. Our only complaint would be the lower powered motor makes the transmission jump down too frequently. But using "sport shift" takes care of that. Audio system is excellent, but we'd love to be able to plug in our iPods!

I have spent the last 6 months researching cars much like the rest of the reviewers here. I also came to the same conclusion. Subaru has hit the nail on the head. I have heard some wishing for more horses, the same engine as the STI; well it is the same but de-tuned. I have a pocket full change that I saved buying the Legacy and it will become a rightful 300 horses like its smaller sibling. Take my advice, save your money, buy a Subaru and use the money to upgrade the ECU and some other things.

I have been driving the 2.5i Limited AWD Sedan for about two weeks now, and I am quite happy. Very smooth drive. Power is adequate enough for me to merge quickly into any traffic - uphill too. Great value for the buck - was able to get $1700 below invoice (due to $1500 manufacturer incentive). Limited version offers a great interior that is similar to a Lexus that I once drove. No regrets at all so far.

These cars are unstoppable in the winter. The new 2005 I bought is fast, fun to drive and kicks from a dead stop to 60 MPH. One of the safest, cheapest toys I have driven in years. It put my $43,000 Mercedes to shame in cornering and take off and stopping. Every two years I buy cars and the 2005 Turbo is a keeper. Tight, sport tuned, fun to drive, easy on a budget, this car corners like it is on tracks holding in the tightest turns. Can't wait to fiddle with the micro chip to get more HP out of this amazing car.

I have to say I truly love this car. I bought one in Oct '04. I went to the dealer really just to look, but they had exactly the one I was looking for (color, options) and I bought it right then. I have had one minor problem with a faulty cooling fan relay which they fixed and also gave me a good will offering for the trouble. This car handles great, has great acceleration, is comfortable, and everyone I know would like to have it. Random people ask me about it quite often. This is one of my favorite cars I have ever owned and I have had about 7 or 8 different vehicles now. If you have the money, go buy one.

I loved my 98, but always wanted a bit more...well the 2005 gives it. Add a few hundred more and it gets better...just add K&N stock replacement air filter and Cobb Tuning AccessPort (you will feel the difference, without getting your hands dirty). The GT is a great vehicle in many ways. It's fun to drive, practical, reasonably sized and sensibly priced. Subaru reliability is excellent (I previously owned an Impreza). After 3 months and 9,000 miles driven I still enjoy my car, only occasionally thinking about the Audi A4 Avant 2.0T 6M that I passed up. The Legacy is faster, roomier, more reliable and less expensive. However, the Legacy does lack some standard and optional features that I would like in a car (which are available on the A4 and the Volvo V50): xenon headlights, vehicle stability control, satellite radio, MP3 capability, adaptive cruise control, headlight washers, full size spare tire, seat/mirror memory are all N/A.

As a forty something that wants practicality, fun, style, and drives regularly on the winter worn mountains of North Idaho, the Subaru Legacy GT about perfectly fits the bill. I regularly drive a 40 mile commute up an interstate mountain pass, then take the old highway, (now partly gravel, mostly partly broken pavement, with wonderful banks and curves). The GT handles the interstate curves smoothly and quickly, extremely stable. On gravel and rough pavement, my Playstation Gran Turismo experience is transformed into real life. Absolutely tight body and chassis, and so far no reliability problems.

For years I had a Porsche 944. It got old and had 245,000 miles. Time to go. This Legacy drives very similar to the 944 in the mountains. You can set this car up in the corners very well. It's transient response in the switchbacks is remarkable - and this is a sedan! In tight hilly switchbacks - you can feel the car transitioning power front and rear. Do I have to complain? It could use a 6 speed. I'd buy this car all over again.

It has everything a person needs and wants in a vehicle. It has the luxury to compete with more expensive cars, the power of a sports car and safety for your most precious cargo. You sacrifice a few irrelevant items (real wood, 6th gear, stability traction -- its got 4 wheel drive) in order to obtain a car that otherwise competes favorably in terms of pure performance with any A6, 545i, M35,TL etc., at 40% or more less cost. Only one word of advice; change the horrible Potenza RE 92's immediately for something decent such as Fuzion ZR1's or Avon MTech 500's. Brakes could use a bit of upgrading, but I haven't looked into that yet. Everything else is about nigh perfect, even the faux wood and brushed aluminum.

We're starting a family, so I traded in my dream car, a '97 BMW M3, for this car. Did I hesitate? Of course. But I'd do it all over again! This car has more horsepower (250 vs. 240), as much torque (250 vs 236), and on paper, is almost as fast 0-60 (5.9 vs. 5.7). On top of that, it's got a more comfortable ride, has an adult backseat, cargo space to burn (folding seats!), and a 2700 lb. towing capacity. Hellooo boat. The gauge cluster is very nicely done, except the confusing lack of boost gauge. Feature for feature, the Legacy has almost everything the M3 had, including heated sport seats.

The turbo engine and speed/handling is excellent, and the 250hp engine is a MAJOR improvement. My wife now drives my 2002 GT Limited sedan, and she is thrilled with it as well. It puts her Accord to shame with handling, safety, performance, and styling. The mileage is better than I anticipated unless you horse around with the accelerator. It is well built and well designed and I like the way it handles. I have been a Subaru owner for 17 years, this being my 4th Subaru. I have been waiting for Subaru to come out with a turbo charged Legacy since the sport sedan (I owned a '92 with 140k miles). Given my previous experiences with Subaru, this is a great car. Some may say that it is not the fastest or best handling or even the most stylish, but it certainly has more than a fair share of each. Include the performance and style with reliability and I feel that it is a great buy. On my wish list is that the 2.5 was the same as the 300HP found in the STi. Also, the CD player's 'random' function does not go between the CDs and the FM/AM/CD function button is a bit far away for the driver to reach.

The motor is a little noisy but you don't hear it inside, and the performance makes up for it. I like the performance shift on the steering wheel but would rather have a stereo volume control. High performance, great car otherwise and with 4 doors for the kids.

Driving out to look at the Acura one more time and possibly sign papers on it, I passed the Subaru dealership. I'm so glad I did because it was love at first sight. I drove the Legacy and the Acura was a distant memory. For much less money I got much more car. I wasn't expecting this much; after all, I owned a '91 Legacy and it was a very reliable but very basic car. This car is beautiful and a blast to drive. Has everything I want and more. All of which was standard equipment! 250 HP, ventilated heated leather seats, 6 CD changer, dual climate control, Sportshift, 17" low profile wheels, signal indicators on side mirrors, DRL, AWD, fuel usage and temp display. All this for around $26,000.

I have 4000 on the odometer and this car is still a hoot to drive. Everything works well, except Tiptronic is a bit hesitant to upshift. AWD great with the turbo. Other two cars are a Lexus GS430 and Miata. My preference is still between the Miata and Subie. Love the looks of this car. Ride is firm but comfortable. Great car for the money.

My wife and I have owned this vehicle for just about 7 months and we're enjoying every mile in it. The quality of the interior is impeccable and so well designed in terms of ergonomics. Everything seems to be in its natural location. The endless supply of torque power this car has to offer is overwhelming and will make anybody feel confident behind the wheel. The confidence doesn't only come from the immense amount of power, but it comes from the symmetrical AWD system. I just can't say enough about this car it was truly one of the best decisions we made. It was worth the wait. Hey it wasn't Car of the Year in Japan twice for nothing. Think of the competition it had to beat!

After having this car for a little over a month, I can honestly say I enjoy driving again. After 8 years in a 4x4 truck and an SUV, I was looking for something, faster, safer and more fun to drive plus better mpg. My highest mileage so far was 25mpg during break-in which is an improvement but negated a bit by the required premium fuel. MPG drops if you get into the boost much but you will be grinning when you do. Auto transmission shifts very fast. Don't miss the manual. Car looks and handles great. Love the interior. Doors feel very solid. Whole car feels very well engineered. Really no competition at the price point. A grown up WRX.

When I started shopping for a new car my boss told me that I should try the Legacy. He and his son are car enthusiasts and told me that his son had the Subaru Impreza and loved it. I was planning on either getting a Honda Accord or a Toyota Camry so test drove both of them and took my boss's advice and test drove the Legacy. The Accord was so stiff it was killing my back and with the Camry I felt like a was driving a bulky tank. The Legacy was wonderful. The drivers seat is totally comfortable, the displays are really convenient, and the handling on the car is just unbelievable. I have never had so much fun driving a car. I totally feel like I got my money's worth with the Legacy.

This car replaced my 01 Audi S4 Avant. I didn't miss it anymore. This is a very good driver's car. Great utility. Good stereo with power sub. Shifting could be smoother, but the Short shifter is great. Several service related problems: low steering and gear oil noted within the first month of driving, malfunction cruise control that dealer can't fix until another dealer changed the O2 sensor. (I complained to manufacturer). Battery leak led to corrosion of the bracket; dealer replaced the battery.

I remember when the WRX came out and I told myself "They need to make something compete in the family sedan class - then I'll get one." I'm car shopping, turn into the Subaru lot, and my heart is content from here. I hope Subaru always keeps it's value and price where it is.

This is Subaru #6 for us. Seems great so far, lots of features, quiet and smooth. Best mileage of the six, avgeraging over 30 mpg in the first 3,000 miles. It doesn't feel quite as fast as our '01 GT was. Nice alloy wheels. Storage is good. Love the black metal flake paint. Headlights are awesome, providing great lighting. Also enjoy the trip computer, outside temperature and two resetable odometers. And the fact that you can't lock the keys in the ignition anymore. Most outstanding is the value for the dollar. There is nothing that comes close for less than $20K. One friend said "that looks like a seriously expensive car!" Probably less than half the cost of her SUV!

I have not had the car a long time, but it was a replacement for my 2003 Infiniti G35. The color is exactly the same - Garnet Fire Pearl and is a deal breaker for me. No red of distinct quality = no chance for a sale. The Legacy has 250hp compared with 260hp for the G35 sedan. The G35 has a more instant response, but the GT is every bit as fast once the turbo kicks in. The G35 became a rattle trap and had brake problems. I drove it 26K and had the front rotors turned twice and the rears once. The Legacy has the same outside road noise, but the interior is far quieter. I am trilled with my Legacy GT over my old G35. No regrets at all!

As always, the NA market doesn't get the best. Everywhere in the world except North America they get the original Legacy, which has HIDs, DVD, GPS, navigation, better tires and windshield wipers, more toys, better looking front and rear bumpers, as well as many others. On the other hand, since many Americans think bigger is better, we get bigger engine (but not more horsepower) and bumpers (the original smaller ones look 10 times better). And since typical Americans are not willing to pay "too much" for a "Subaru," the Legacy comes standard with poor all-season tires that don't perform well in almost any situation, especially in snow and rain.

I traded a VW Passat V6 for this car and it beats the Passat in almost every way: handling, acceleration, traction, braking, comfort and standard equipment. Build quality and materials are equal to the VW -- and that's saying a lot because the VW is a great car! The Legacy feels glued to the road unlike any sedan or wagon I've driven with the exception of a BMW 3-series. In fact, a friend who own a Porsche Boxster was comparing (favorably) the Legacy's handling to his car after I let him take a spin. When he let me take a reciprocal drive in the Boxster, I understood.

The GT Limited accelerates like a hot sports sedan and handles reasonably well. The front seats are very comfortable and there's plenty of room in the back seat. Both rear seat legroom and cargo space is much better than our '99 Audi A4. The stock Bridgestone RE-92 all-season tires are a weak point. Too much initial understeer and poor on-center response. Replaced them with a set of Goodyear F-1 GS-D3's which are much better. Factory optional STI shifter is a "must-get." Throws are MUCH shorter and feel is MUCH better in all 5 forward gears, but it's a lot harder to get into reverse with the fast shifter. Shocks could be a little firmer-- too much float at high speeds.

The ride is pretty firm like a sport car, very good handling and traction for a family wagon. The sunroof is huge. Although it will be nice if it come with a basic 200 HP engine will make it more fun and within the bargaining price range. Thinking about the Tribeca or Forester as our next car. Love the deep pitch sound of the flat 4 engine.

I have always like the interior of European cars like VW and Audi. The Legacy is the first Japanese car I feel like I'm inside an European make. The traction is excellent and cornering doesn't feel like you're in a wagon. Subaru should put in a base engine with 200 horse power to make it more fun to drive without paying the premium price for GT turbo model.

This car is a real sleeper--its stylish yet conservative looks don't reveal the sporting performance unleashed behind the wheel. As a wagon, it's incredibly utilitarian and practical, tons of fun, very comfortable and a great value compared to other AWD wagons priced similarly and higher. Subaru finally has a car which can compete on many levels with the more upscale entry-luxury and luxury models. No, this isn't a luxury car, but the appointments, comfort, performance, style and price make a compelling package. Costs much less than the smaller, heavier, slower but more luxurious Audi A4 Avant 2.0T. Gives the Volvo V50 T5 AWD a run for the money. 2005 VW Passat 4Motion can't compete.

Just purchased several days ago so here are my first impressions. It has a surprising amount of power for a four cylinder. The manual transmission feels easier to shift than the Impreza. The seats are very adjustable and comfortable. The stereo is pretty good for a factory unit with no upgrades. Mileage so far has been surprisingly good. The car is very smooth and handles great. Quiet ride even at highway speeds. The sound of the engine takes a little getting used to, but it grows on you. The trunk is pretty large and has a pass through for narrow objects. The car features a full assortment of airbags. In all, this is a great car with a lot of nice features for a reasonable price.

I just selected the 2005 Legacy GT as my company car, over the Nissan Altima 3.5 SE and Acura TSX. My budget prevented me from getting the Limited, so I'm without the leather and sunroof (both Nissan and Acura were loaded), but I made a great decision. This is my 3rd Legacy GT ('93, '97), and the 2005 is a different animal. 250 hp makes it faster than hell and build quality is a quantum leap forward -- it is remarkably quiet, solid and corners like it's on rails. I smile every time the door closes with a reassuring thud that would be the envy of BMW, Audi, Honda or Mercedes owners. Joy to drive on the highway; it wants to run. Subaru really took a step forward with the Legacy GT.

This is my fifth Subaru, including a manual WRX wagon and manual WRX sedan. I have also owned two V8 Mustangs and a couple of BMWs. ONCE IT IS MOVING a turbo Subie is great fun! From a stoplight, unless you beat it, turbo lag is still a problem. My 10 year old V10 Dodge Pickup is faster for the first 50 to 100 yards. Responsive, stable AWD handling; good feedback; stock Bridgestones average in dry - poor on dirt and snow. I average 23 to 24 mpg in mixed driving using premium fuel. Manual shift mode is entertaining and steering wheel controls are convenient and provide flexibility.

The Turbo charged GT model has impressive acceleration. It's my first time with an all wheel drive car with sport car like handling. The Momo steering wheel is pleasing to the grip especially when connected to such nimble and responsive steering. The car has no hesitation and continues the steep climb felt in the 5.7 second 0 to 60. It's just plain fun to drive. On the back roads the all wheel drive just hugs the road. The five speed auto transmission has three settings but in retrospect I'm not sure that I shouldn't have gotten the manual transmission for better control of the powertrain. This car is just fun to drive.

We already own a '93 Legacy AWD Turbo and have appreciated its performance and reliability over the last 12 years. We are very impressed with this car's performance - especially the tremendous acceleration over 3,000 rpm. The ride is stable and quite firm which is fine with us. The handling is crisp and inspires confidence. We like the exterior lines - design very well conceived and executed. Some of the interior materials and switch gear seem less robust than we'd like but time will tell. Overall, an impressive, well thought out, entertaining AWD performance wagon.

Not only is there more than enough power when accelerating from a red light but there is reserve power at 70mph on the freeway to make many other sport car drivers feel a little embarrassed. Oh well, poor them.

Currently the best sport wagon available for under $35k. Steering feel is basically perfect. It out-accelerates any of its competitors (and just about everything else, as well). Balance between ride and handling is superb. Interior is neat...subtly upscale with no cheap bits. Safe, reliable, and fun with no major flaws, but only 15-17 MPG in town, 20-24 pure highway. <6 second 0-60 times are valid, but the on-demand turbo acceleration requires keeping the RPMs at 3,000+, so if you don't downshift to the right gear at the right moment, you'll miss that extreme power. Smooth, quiet. Plays family wagon and sports car equally well. Standard shifter is too long for sporty driving, but has a decent feel.

I got great financing from Subaru. I think this is the best year for the Subaru. Finally a car company has finally put the true meaning of "GT" into a car: style, performance, power and handling. It's not some superficial dressed up version that they slapped GT on it to give you an impression that it's faster then their standard models. This thing GOES!

At one month we are very pleased with car after taking it on a couple extended trips. The handling is better than I expected on windy roads-far, far better than the Camry and Accord. Comfort is good, but the climate control acts bizarre and we often end up controlling it manually. The car feels solid and substantial, more like a European than Japanese maker. Cruise control has some strange ticks-jerky when going downhill, full throttle when accelerating. If you want blazing speed, go for the GT, but the base engine is adequate for brisk highway merges. The sunroof is huge and a treat for back seat passengers. Disappointing economy-27mpg is best so far even with all highway driving.

Excellent handling, impressive power, well equipped for its cost, elegant styling, high quality interior &exterior, easy-to-use instrumentation, great sound system: what's not to like about it? Okay, the fuel mileage (22mpg) is poor compared to my last Legacy, but who cares when you have this kind of power? This car evokes more unsolicited compliments from strangers about its looks; friends are effusive after they ride in it. I love the feel of the leather interior, the lumbar support, the car's styling, its features, & the power is intoxicating.

This car replaced a 2003 Legacy sedan--non-turbo-charged, and is one of 3 cars and a pickup in the family. The difference between the 2003 and the new car is like night and day. The quality of the paint, the fit and finish, ride, comfort, handling, the redesigned steering, and especially the sure-footed all-wheel drive make this an incredible bargain. The Subaru logo makes it a "sleeper." I'll be surprised if it doesn't take the "car of the year" award from some magazine. The interior is well designed and the materials used, including the MOMO steering wheel, have a quality feel. It's not like any Subaru you have ever driven. This car is a true high-quality driver's car; it's the real deal.

This my favorite of all the cars we have ever had! (The list includes many BMWs, 2 Lexus, 2 Audis and a WRX.) It is fast, fun, safe, comfortable, and surprisingly well made. Deep reserves of power across the entire rev range. Great steering, exemplary ride/handling balance. If there is a better every day, all-purpose, any road, any weather sports sedan available at any price, I have not found it. Buy the 5 speed. As with Audi turbos, the auto saps the marvelous engine response. The manual is amazingly good in traffic. If you live where there is snow, arrange with a tire dealer to trade in the Potenza tires. Replace them with proper summer tires & a set of winter tires/wheels.

Great handling and pickup. Interior is now competitive with anything in its class. I don't use CDs anymore so the 6 CD player (in dash) is gathering dust (using an MP3 player with FM transmitter). Some complain of the turbo lag but I don't find it bothersome, especially as long as you give it some revs. AT 4k miles, two 8 hour trips and one big snowstorm: very, very happy. I'm in the NorthEast and forgot how much AWD helps all the time. This much HP in a FWD car would be a bit scary, RWD would be almost useless in snow here. Anyway, AWD comes in handy more often than I thought... you just feel it.

This car is so fun to drive, you'll find any excuse to get out of the house. I have always hated winter driving, but I have never had so much fun as I have had this last month driving in terrible winter conditions. This car is a serious machine. Get rid of the lousy stock all-seasons and you're set for high performance. I have read articles comparing it to the Acura TSX. I test drove both cars, but there was no comparison. The TSX has a nice interior, but the Legacy... smiles ear to ear every time I got out of it. FYI - on the 5 speed manual, there is zero turbo lag. Makes the even the WRX seem sluggish off the line

After 5,000 miles, I can say that Subaru has done a wonderful engineering job. They have mated the formerly slow, boring Legacy with the racy WRX. My 4-cylinder feels like an 8. Even with the 5-speed AT, the car still moves like a BMW. Turbo lag is not noticeable. The car handles, turns and brakes great. The MOMO steering wheel, luminescent gauges and grippy heated cloth seats tell you that you're about to go racing. However, this car is perfect for a family - comfortable, a forgiving ride, quiet (even the 17-inch sport tires do not roar) and safe with the additional air bags and AWD/ABS. My father took it out for a long run over all kinds of roads and came back amazed.

I shopped Acura TL & TSX, as well as BMW 325xi, and got the Subaru! More power than any of them, handles 95% as well as the BMW, and is a lot of fun to drive. Also, Subaru will deal a bit, while the other ones wouldn't (and the '05 TSX's weren't even available at all). Mileage isn't the greatest, but not surprising with all of the power this vehicle has. Very smooth, quiet.

I don't want too much flashiness on a Subaru. Can't wait for the break-in period to end so I can drive faster! It will take some time to get used to the required high octane gas and lower gas mileage than my other Subies.

It's hard to wipe the smile off your face while driving the 5 speed manual GT Ltd sedan. Subaru nailed this one- a comfortable interior and a HOOT to drive. My wife likes the dual climate control and heated leather seats with electric adjustment. I like the performance of the intercooled turbocharged 2.5L boxer engine. This car is rock-solid at autobahn speeds. Freeway on-ramps are easy- no more worries about people running you over. Passing- no problem either- but it really performs on the twisty two lane roads. Go ahead and open it up- but just make sure you burn off your speed before the turn and then accelerate through the turn. You'll see that cheesy grin in the rear-view mirror!

Everything good has already been said. Irreplaceable problems include horrible sensitivity on key (goes off while in your pocket), the stuttering phenomena (when accelerating from low rpms), inability to replace deck, clutch stink syndrome for beginning mileage. These are minor quibbles however which you can easily get used to and overlook for the brilliance of things like performance, reliability, sleeper looks, elegant interior, and of course the AWD 250 HP Turbo setup. Definitely worth considering as a competitor to 3 series, A4, S40, 9-3, TSX, TL, etc. To me the decision was made not after looking at it but driving it; in terms of performance and joy of driving TSX is only competition.

This car is super fast, hugs corners like a cat on carpet, but best of all it has 4 doors and my whole family comfortably fits in the car with no problem. For the past 3 months while driving this car I've been amazed at how hard the turbo engine pulls you to the back of the seat and how many heads turn my way wondering what the heck just blew them off the light. I am very happy with my purchase. As a 6ft 260+lb'er, I am able to fit comfortably. The vehicle glides down the road. Car is put together nice and tight-no squeaks or rattles, very quiet. Both the interior and exterior styling are excellent. The MPG is not even close to that listed on the window sticker, it's more like 18 city/22 hwy. Not being a turbo, from a stop, the car is not the fastest but at highway speed there is plenty of pedal in reserve. I constantly find myself excessively over the speed limit.

Just got our 2005 GT Ltd. Wagon 10 days ago. I was blown away during the test drive. The engine just pulls and pulls and pulls. Besides the fantastic engine, the interior was the deal clincher for me. I always liked Subarus in the past, but the interiors have never done anything for me before. In the 2005 model, I have to say that Subaru did a fantastic job in refining everything. So far, the car feels solidly built. Doors close with a thud. No signs of rattling anywhere. Handling is great, but the ride suffers a little. It's very much a sports car ride. Lack of navigation option bugged me, because they have it in Japan and in Europe. Not a deal breaker, but it would've been nice.

I purchased the vehicle loaded with almost every available option because I considered it an excellent value. After three weeks, I still feel that way. My only concern about driving it is that I will start collecting traffic tickets for speeding, as this rig just wants to go fast. I purchased the car less than a week after I initially drove it. The reason I was interested is that my wife drives a Forrester XT, and I have enjoyed it so much that I wanted a Subaru with a turbo for myself.

The GT is lightning quick when the turbo kicks in at 3000 rpm. Need to get up to speed quickly to merge onto a crowded highway? Just open up the 250hp turbo and hold on. The handling is solid and inspires confidence -- push hard on a twisty back road and the car stays firmly planted beneath you. The exterior styling is aggressive yet clean, with much more personality than its competitors. The interior is perfectly adequate, though some pieces are cheap looking for a car of this price. Leather is almost a necessity, since the only cloth option is not very attractive. Compared to its competitors, you sacrifice some luxury and options for performance, but it's well worth it.

The 2.5 GT autostick is a hoot to drive! Plenty of power on tap at any speed and confident handling. Turbo lag could be reduced. Car is comfortable for long (500 mile) trips and I have a bad back. Others considered: Infinity g35X, BMW 330ix, & Audi A4 Quattro. The 2.5 GT has all of the comfort and safety figures at a far lower cost. Build quality is excellent. The doors close with a reassuring thump. Take comparitive test drives, check your wallet and you'll by the Legacy GT

I have only one complaint about this car. No mp3 option. That is it. It rides nice, has lots of power and can take a pretty good hit with minimal damage. My wife was rear-ended by a neon traveling 70km/hr, black ice, wrote the neon off. We have only 2 small cracks in the rear bumper and a plastic plate benieth the car for damage, about $900 CAD. My wife had a sore neck for roughly 7 days, but is fine now. I will probably never own another make of car if this one has little to no maintenance issues. So far so good. Average milage to date, including city driving is about 19mpg. These miles were hard ones. It got roughly 25-29mpg on highway trips, averaging 125-140km/hr(75-85mph)

The overall concept and package is excellent. The handling dynamics are about as good as you can get in a compliant riding sedan. The punch from the turbo engine means that you can really achieve some quick pace in the twisty roads. The downside is the coarse behaviour of the engine during moderate acceleration with a stuttering type response until you get past 5k rpm. This is not turbo lag but feels more like a fault in the engine management system. The dealer indicates the car behaves normally, however everyone who travels in the car comments on it

I test drove 7 vehicles before buying my Subaru 2.5 GT LTD.(auto). I like the car a lot, however the ride is 'sporty', i.e. rides a bit hard if you are coming out of a car like an Accord V6 like I was. Power is great. The left-side rearview mirror is distorted and getting replaced (dealer was helpful, no problem). I miss a few things like radio controls on the steering wheel. I have the optional subwoofer and the radio sounds great. I find the seats a bit hard but finally found a good adjustment for me. No turbo boost gauge. My first tank I got 19.6 mpg., fair enough considering I was in the go pedal a bit. I love the way it looks, mine's black. So far, so good. I recommend it.

Our 1st new car... we got the GT sedan, and really love the car. ALOT of power and still has tether anchors for our toddlers car seat. Premium fuel only means the gas bill is a little high, and honestly the fuel economy is not that great, but I love the power it has, and the fun to drive factor makes up for the thirsty engine.

I've driven only 1000 miles and conclude that the level of refinement and performance is probably the best Subaru has ever engineered. I was eager to buy the STi last year, but in waiting for the 2005 Legacy GT sedan, I was rewarded with a car that's at least 80% of the STi's performance with considerably more everyday- driving appeal and utility. Highly recommended -- terrific value.

Excellent value with high quality components. The limited model provides luxury features at an affordable price. I have the regal blue--both that and the atlantic blue are stunningly beautiful (don't go by the pics on their web site). Nice smooth drive with a capable engine and competent acceleration even in a non-GT model. The improved interior and exterior design in the 2005 model, combined with the standard winter features, makes for a perfect blend of style and practicality.

Well its been about 3 weeks now since I purchased my silver GT Ltd Sedan and not one ounce of disappointment in my decision.I am still very impressed. I have always thought the Subaru made excellent AWD rally racing cars and the WRX/STI models are great high performance cars although with too much of a boy racer look. Take your pick especially with the Big Shopping Cart wings! If only Subaru would make something with similar performance.Well the wait is over and the GT Legacy is a force to be reckoned with now if only they make a STI version with 300+ horsepower that would would leave those with Audi S4's and BMW M3's crying in its wake!!

Picked up my Legacy GT wagon last week. Looked at a lot of wagons, Passat, Audi A4, Mazda 6. Volvo v50. Fodge Magnum. Amazed at the way Subaru pulled this car together. Staying with the GT not the limited and manual, purchased the car for 26,300. No other wagon near this price range had the performance of the GT. Passat had nice interior but was over 31,000 with 4-wheel drive. Same with the Audi and Volvo. The Magnum looked better but interior did not have same quality and with the Hemi was also over 31K. Subaru was a better handler although Mazda 6 was close and the turbo was quicker than all. Nicely done exterior and interior, car is quiet but really comes alive on a twisty road.

This is a wonderful vehicle. Unfortunately, for a tall person with long legs, it's very difficult to be comfortable driving. After 1500 miles I am still struggling to be comfortable. The non-telescoping steering wheel is too far away for me. The seat is very hard and short (I have to use a pad under my butt). The angle of the gas peddle is too high and there is little room left over for the feet under the dash. The headreast does not tilt forward. Sometimes after driving 20 minutes, my right leg and back are very uncomfortable. Didn't notice this until after I bought it. I am 5'11" well proportioned. Power is smooth, and Sport mode comes in handy when passing quickly.

Had the GT Wagon M for 1 month now...WOW! Looked at the Mazda6, Audi/Volkswagen Wagons and there is no comparison. The Subaru came in at 27K. Power is abundant through all 5 gears. 5.8 sec 0-60 times are no joke out of this rocket. Don't listen to any of the hype of the turbo lag. The GT makes 13.5lbs of boost and it's quite available. Shifts are a bit long and I think I'm going for the short throw shifter upgrade in time. Ride quality is superb with minimal body roll. There is no dive whatsoever under heavy breaking. The 2 kids(both under 2) ride in a cacoon of safety features.

Currently have 1300 miles including a 800 mile round trip to mountains. Very well balanced automobile. Could use about 20 more HP in base form for mountain driving with the automatic. Avg fuel economy right near EPA estimate of 30 MPG on regular fuel. Quiet/smooth highway ride - AWD operation is not perceptible. Great handling for a wagon. Very versatile storage options. Seating/pedal position takes a little getting used to - maybe just me. Arm rest should be standard instead of a $130 accessory. Factory rack cross-bars can be noisy at speed. I removed them until needed. No mechanical or other problems yet.

The perfect alternative for the rest of us who can't afford an Audi S4 Avant. Excellent handling, tons of power, a real pleasure to drive. My auto does not seem to suffer from the problems mentioned in the review. You can just pick the mode for your mood. Laid back = normal auto, pressing on=sport mode auto, hard driving = full manual mode. I drove a stick as well, and I will admit turbo lag seems worse in the auto for some reason.

Turbo lag is minimal making it sooo much fun to drive. We had driven the 2.5i but were disappointed by how underpowed it was. This car needs the turbo or it feels like your driving a hyundai (our trade it). Driving position is much more comforable than passenger side unless you're short. Rear seat room is good on driver's side, but not on passenger's bec. of how far back the front seat has to go for good leg room. Dual climate control is great for people who can't compromise on temp. The AWD really hugs the road and allows you to jump out in traffic without a sound. If you want safety AND performance, this is the car. I have some gripes, but not enough of them NOT to buy this car.

My wife had a 2k GT wagon that we replaced w/this one. All the issues I had w/the 2k (plain interior, road noise, inability to get out of it's own way) were addressed by the 05. Dynamically, the car is easily equal to many more expensive cars (we had a brief affair w/a 2k S4 avant- the subie is nearly as nice and about 120x more reliable). The design is nice, the ride and noise are well-controlled, power is excellent. Really a stellar deal for the price.

I purchased my Subaru Legacy 2.5i exactly three months ago. I have put 1500 miles on it. It has been a dissapointment to say the least. It has had numerous rattles in the interior, engine trouble when starting, fuzzy radio reception, and a broken heater and air conditioner. However, I do think it is a fine looking car. I would caution anyone considering this car to look at a more reliable option. This is a totally redone model for 2005 and there are plenty of problems that Subaru needs to work out. I would encourage anyone who has looked at this car to wait until these problems have been fixed for 2006, or to consider a more reliable option.

I had a 2000 Forester, which was an excellent vehicle, but since I don't haul much stuff around, including kids and dogs, I thought it might be fun to have a car with a little juice. I'd been reading about the Legacy GT, and when I took my Forester in for service, I drove the GT Limited and was immediately hooked. I made the deal on the spot and have been having fun ever since. Fast, well-designed, easy to read instruments. It's a little low in the mpg department, but that's my one and only complaint. It hugs the road and will snap your neck back if you engage the turbocharger. I would recommend the Legacy GT to anyone who wants to bring a little fun back in their driving.

I Had planned on a WRX, but got this for a negligable amount more. For a bit extra than WRX you get a bigger and better engine, no turbo lag (with manual), more room, better styling, and any new friends don't come from the "fast and furious" crowd.

Congrats to Subaru for crafting a truly world class car. It was love at first sight!! Both the exterior and interior designs manage to be both fresh and timeless at the same time. After going over every square inch of the car I can't find a single production flaw! I'm still breaking the engine in, so I haven't taken full advantage of that beast under the hood, but even driving gently has been exhilarating! Handles like it's glued to the road, but somehow manages to ride very smoothly. Quite possibly the best seats of any car in this price range. Averaging 27mpg so far, pretty thrifty for 250 horses. I always liked the creature comforts in my GTi Vr6 which wasn't offered in the WRX's. The Legacy GT Limited is a GTi for grown ups. Fun to drive, comfortable plus AWD. So much more car for less.

I've driven the G35x, G35 coupe, BMW 3-series, Pontiac Grand Prix, Audi A4 and A6, and Volvo S40 and S60, and bang for buck, the Subaru was the best deal. It's also a blast to drive, the interior is actually more refined than some of the luxury cars, and the performance is nice.

I've waited a year for this car since I heard it was the 2003/2004 car of the year in Japan. Always liked Subaru but didn't buy one because of the lack of power (and a WRX is too small for me). This car is a steal. Does everything well (while not great). I can't think of another car in this price range that does everything this car can do. Steering feel and response is very similar to a BMX530i I drove last year. Smooth, but firm ride, very good handling, feels like a RWD car. Love the interior, very comfortable and classy. Traded in a 2002 V-6 Altima for this car and have not regretted it one bit. Subaru has totally outclassed Nissan. Amazing...

This car is a blast to drive. Most fun short of a BMW! And in a Wagon. The only negatives I have are 1) fuel economy (what do you expect when going from 0-60 in 6 seconds), and I could use more upper back support.

This is a great car! I was set on buying an Acura TL & saw a commercial for this car as well as a billboard. I drove to the dealer, test drove the car, went back the next day & drove it for 2 hours & bought it the next day. The car handles as if it were on rails. Everyone comments on how smooth & quite the ride is. The trunk space is great. Trust me, drive this car and you will buy this car. The "sport" mode really makes a difference in the performance.

The perforated leather seats, dual climate control and large sunroof were far classier than other comparable models built by Subaru's competitors. The cornering and stopping capabilities of this model are astounding due to the lower positioning of the boxer style engine. The sportshift automatic transmission allows for manual shifts which makes driving incredibly fun. The turbo model has on demand power at almost all speeds above 15mph. Some competitors boast more power under the hood but the Legacy is geared lower which results in better accel.

I always have a smile on my face when I'm driving this car (and even after!). The torque on the car is awesome, and the ride is firmish but still very comfortable, while maintaining the sporty feel. The brakes and steering are excellent and very precise. The brakes remind me of the late model BMW 3 series that I traded in to get this car. The interior is simple, but very comfortable and functional. All the controls are intuitive, and the build quality seems excellent so far.

Simply put, this car has been the first vehicle in the last three years to spark my car buying interest. It offers the perfect balance between comfort and performance. Extremely fun to drive. I actually traded my 2000 SAAB 9-5 SE sedan in for my Garnet Red GT Limited Sedan(I call it my "little red devil"). Many people tell me, "you traded a SAAB for a SUBE?!" - but as soon as they see the car, they can't believe their eyes. Subaru has produced a WORLD CLASS car at last -- interior design and quality is bar none. A beautifully executed design. Bravo, Subaru!

Take the luxury car with its massive amounts of comfort and gobs of performance from the wrx sti, subaru managed to create the awsome Legacy. This car has tons of performance and barely any turbo lag. It blows away the wrx in performance even in the auto version, which I love the most with its sport shift feature. No road noise except for the roll of the awsome 17" wheels and that was min. as well. I live in the snow and this baby can do it all. This thing can be thrown anyware and remain amazingly stable under any type of stress and even with my lead foot gets 22.8 mpg!

I'd been waiting for two months for this car and now that i finally have it it was worth the wait. The ride is as smooth as the design. I live in a very hilly state and thought the the stock 2.5 without turbo wouldnt have enough power but it holds its own. And with a few modifications to up the hp it will be perfect. My biggest complaint is i dont care for the seatbelt dinger. if i don't fasten my belt i shouldn't have to listen to the car ding all the time.

I thought my 2000 Maxima SE 5MT was tops for the money. Move over Max, my new Legacy 2.5GT Limited 5MT is a whole lot of car for the price. A blast to drive!!! 1st and 2nd gear feels like you're riding a slingshot. And I'm even babying it for the 1000 mile breakin period. Handles real good, inspires confidence. Good looking, "elegant simplicity". If you have winters like we do in New Hampshire, and you love to drive fast on curvy roads, this is a no-brainer. You gotta try one out.

Excellent automobile. The Subaru designers really did their homework. Smooth & fast acceleration, quiet comfortable ride, excellent handling, good road hugging qualities, stealth like appearance. The interior has the most customer friendly and easiest to use layout I have ever seen. The red interior lighting is like a fighter jet and the quality of materials is superb. Turns a lot of heads, and very few people know that a 250 hp 4 cylinder turbo lurks underneath the hood. This is my 3rd Subaru and by far the best one.

But it's as much fun to drive as my Miata was: goes like stink, handles like a German sports sedan, plus tons of safety features and all wheel drive. Very nice interior, best styling Subaru has ever done, quiet, comfortable and a blast to drive. Great highway cruiser, nimble on twisting roads, doesn't even notice wet, slick roads.

I waited three weeks to be able to test drive my '05 Legacy GT Ltd. and it was absoultelym worth it. I had compared this car to the Acura TSX, Audi A4 and BMW 325xi. The Legacy is by far the most sporting of the bunch. Power delivery is typical of a turbocharged car, but there is enough grunt from the 2.5 off-boost to keep it from being an annoyance. the handling is crisp, yet it doesn't punish you over rough surfaces. The interior is first rate, and the only complaints there are the stereo which sounds a little dull, and the cupholder which places large drinks in the path of the driver's elbox when shifting into 2nd, 4th or reverse. Great job Subaru!

THis car has it all, bmw and audi should be quaking in their loafers. If they dont do something to counter this car they will be in a world of hurt. I am amazed every time i step into the car, the build quality and styling is simply perfect, not to flashy but in no way bland. Amazing pick up, sticks to the road and hugs corners better than anything I've ever driven. Even at high speeds the 2.5GT held it's composure. There was little noise in the cabin, the steering was responsive and direct, and ride comfort was not compromised. If you have to have safety, high performance, a sleek exterior, well appointed interior with AWD and the fun to drive factor in one package, take a look at Subaru's 2.5GT Legacy.
