I've owned a total of 3 jeeps and I love them all dearly. I bought my 05 Grand Cherokee Limited 4.7 4x4 about a year ago and I'm still quite happy with my decision. The 4.7 has all the power I need and is surprisingly good on gas for a V8 (depending on your driving habits). I average about 14 city 21 highway. The Quadratrac 4x4 system is a beast in the snow, even better than my XJ or Ranger were. It has more than enough features. The brakes and suspension are both good -it rides pretty nice. I'm also a big fan of the aesthetics of the vehicle, the color scheme and design is tastefully done. If I had to nitpick it would have to be about the door panels. I would prefer more padding and I had to replace one of the door handles. Also had an issue with some leaking from the sunroof due to an issue with the drainage system. I got that all squared away though, ultimately no big deal. Really nice vehicle overall.

I purchased a used 2005 Grand Cherokee with the HEMI and it is the biggest joke on the road, if it ever gets on the road. It is a disgrace to the HEMI and Mopar brand. I test drove it, and all was great. I bought it, brought it home (20 miles from the dealer), and it promptly died. It took 3 days to get the idiotic thing started again. Every time you put the key in and try to start it, the language of the display keeps changing. First, it was English. After that, it went to Spanish, German, and what I think was Portuguese. It hasn't gotten back to English, yet. I set all the setting like the seat position and pedal distance for me, but it keeps flipping back to factory settings. When trying to get back to the dealership, it sputtered the whole way, and had a horrible rattling ion the back end somewhere. I would never buy another used one, and it has pretty much soured me to the whole Jeep brand, unless we talk old school 2-door Cherokees and any of the CJs. This thing is proof that Jeep should have never strayed from its roots. It's like when VW started making water-cooled cars, which are just as worthless.

Saw this car at a local dealer had 48K on it and ended up trading an 08 wrangler for it. I bought this car with the intention of running it into the ground over the next few years but it doesn't look like it is going to last to much longer. It now has 68K on it a little over a year later and I have had a lot of problems with it. It ran good to start out with but then out of the blue I came to a stop on an off ramp and it stalled out. No warning, no engine light, nothing. This has been an issue ever sense. Dealer doesn't know what is causing it. They have replaced EGR valve and the throttle response censor but the issue and a few others still stand. Other then the stalling the truck shifts rough at times, after putting in drive engine will not rev above 2 grand and act as if it wants to cut out. Engine light code reads cylinder 2 misfire but the dealer doesn't know whats causing the rest. Over all the car is good looking, and mostly comfortable. When running properly the car has plenty of power with the 4.7 V8 and it sounds great. Love all the features.

I will never ask anyone to get this kind of vehicle! It was my dream car. I got mines from a dealership, saw car facts, clean title no accidents. Only 1 owner. really nice looking. This vehicle is not worth it. Too many mechanical problems. Once one thing messes up everything messes up! I was very good with keeping up with the car, but not even that could stop it. Out of the 2 1/2 years ive had it ive probably driven it for 8 months. At one point I had it parked for 2 months straight. Towed it to different mechanics not one could figure out what was wrong with it. Spent almost the same amount I paid for it. Fixing it. Its not reliable. It turned off on me 2 times on the hwy going 60. So scary!! Its was to the point where I could only turn it on 2 times a day & that was it. Till the next day it wouldn't turn on. It would stall, battery would drain every other day. I had re wiring done still wouldn't work. Nothing sucked more then getting stuck in traffic because the truck would turn off. It was just too much. I would not recremend this vehicle. Worst decision ever.

Got the Jeep with 75k on it; looked great and ran well until 80 k. Replaced struts,radiator, tune up( 16 plugs!) Trans now jumps into 3rd gear all the time-dealer has no idea what the problem is. Dash lights continually flash , not a bad car but expected more from jeeps flagship.

When I was test driving the car the noticed when I accelerated the car was very lound inside the car then when the dealer drove it say it wasn't lound. What does that mean is there anything wrong?

I have had a recall on my 4 wheel drive which has been repaired 3 times. I am now awaiting a call from my case manager to see what Chrysler is willing to do this time. Chrysler kept my Jeep for a week and it would appear as though it is now repaired. Thanks to Edmunds, I will keep this review updated. I neglected to mention....my door handles ( all 4) are held on with plastic and have all broken....I have had to replace my driver side door panel so I can exit the car.....very poor materials in that respect. I rarely use my back except to transport my dogs to the vet. They do need replacement however.

To the point, the car is a jeep. It does everything and anything you could possibly need. Need to get somewhere? Check. Need to go through bad weather? Check. Need to get groceries? Check. Need to tow something heavy? Check. Wanna attract the ladies? Check. --- Now the downsides: You don't get to do the above that often. I don't know if it's just having the 2005 model, but frankly the car wasn't that good. Useful and practical, very; enjoyable not at all. It has a million little issues reliability wise, but with adequate maintenance, you'll never be stranded. Not to mention parts are cheap and very easy to find, but that in mind seeing warning lights and hearing beeps every 10 minutes into a ride gets annoying FAST. --- It has a horrible interior. I'm not nit-picky, but good lord, I have never seen an uglier interior. The colors for the dash can normally be ignored if nothing else, on most cars, but you're constantly reminded of it in this jeep. It may seem tolerable at first, but believe me, it's one of the worst interiors ever created. No where you can touch that won't feel scratchy, rough, or just simply displeasant. --- Onto the absolute worst parts: the seats. Some people like them. I didn't, you have to be fat to sit in them. Or have weird posture. The seats DO NOT hold you in place, unless you are almost fat albert levels of obese. This car has wide side bolsers, and way too much lumbar support. If you're young and charming, like myself, a wily fellow to whom extreme back support is unnecessary, you'll get sore and tired fast. Older folks or folks with weaker backs should be fine, because even the lowest settings for lumbar proved too much to me (the lowest lumbar setting was still excessive and exacerbated by how hard the seat are), and I found the seats to push against the top of my back too (the bulging part where they plant the jeep logo). Compared to the previous generation, these seats feel like lead and iron in terms of hardness and were my personal enemy for the 6months that I was stuck with the thing. As for seating room, I'd rather you think of it as a coupe. The back seats are somehow worse than tbe front seats lacking in depth or space at all for your legs. --- Onto performance, it was actually Not awful. It wasn't very good though; it had body lean in a straight line and I wasn't personally a fan of the way the transmission shifted and felt (1st second and third were rev happy, 4th wouldn'5 budge and no matter how hard you pressed on the pedal you'd have to wait a while for it to downshift), that's all my opinion of course, the first few cars I ever worked on were fords and chevies and even ford didn't have such a garbage transmission engine pairing. Chances are you'd like the jeep if you're used to driving diesel trucks. It has good power delivery I'll admit, and the gearing is pretty good up until it hits 4th gear (and more horribly 5th). It can stay in low gears pretty well when you ask it to I guess. It does have manual shift (poorly executed since you can't lock fifth gear) -and the 290-305 ft-lbs of torque let you accelerate without revving when you ARE stuck in high gear. The engine is good without a doubt, even if it has a horrible transmission pair. As I stated, this car has too much body lean for aggressive driving. You might not mind, you wouldn't expect an suv of its weight to handle at all; it has some low speed maneuverability which at times can be surprising. The suspension isn't as bouncy as the previous generation, and seating position is much lower and less tank like. If you want a jeep that still feels like you can go to war in it, look for the previous body style. --- As per the technology, it's without a doubt simple and efficient, I have nothing bad to say. --- Off-roading? Hahahahahahahaha! That's so 1963. But I guess it probably does it well, if you do an enormous amount of off roading, buy a wrangler instead. The grand cherokee is more for people who want to camp occasionally on a trail, but also have handy car around for when the time arrives. I sold my jeep to someone who wanted a replacement after he drowned his TJ in a mudpit at some mountain, his was a newer TJ and he was surprised at the tech that came with the Jeep especially its GPS console. --- Bottom line: if all you want is a nice commuter car, skip it. This jeep is for people who have other things to do, mountains to climb, and snowy parking lots to be alone with their girlfriend in.

The all wheel drive 4.7 v8 gets about 14-15 city mpg I think that is perfect if you live in a climate where all wheel drive is needed. The car has perfect power, steering ability and off road performance. I had a 1997 grand cherokee and I can say jeep has come a long way perfecting it. All the way around it is a very good car!!!

We have owned the truck since it was brand new, and now it has 177,000 miles on it. Recently, the EGR valve had to be replaced, as did the front C/V joint, radiator, and water pump. The transmission is noisy, and gas mileage is horrible. It was a good car when it was new, but has started to show its age.

Best car I have ever owned

I am the original owner of my Jeep which now has 180,000 miles on it. It is my third Jeep. As an outside salesman I have driven over 1,000,000 miles in the past 30 years. And this is the most durable car I have ever driven. Besides still having the original brake pads with 40% of their life left, the only "repairs" so far have been a water pump, EGR valve and throttle position sensor. The 3 items were done at 170,000 miles. It took 60,000 miles just to break in the motor which uses not a drop of oil between regular oil changes every 5-6,000 miles. My car has every available option and NOT one thing has malfunctioned in 180,000 miles. You just can't go wrong with this car.

I purchased the vehicle new. It is a Laredo Rocky Mountain edition with the 4.7L V-8. Shortly after I purchased it, the "Service 4 wheel drive" message appeared. It took the dealer several weeks to resolve the problem. The same error message still occasionally occurs, but the vehicle operates fine. Gas mileage is 10-12 city and 14-18 highway. For the last 3 years, the car has been in Mexico. The roads are very rough an dusty. The car is holding up exceptionally well. A recent problem is a noise near the rear axle. Otherwise, all is well at 66K miles.

Worst automobile I have ever owned. So many problems ranging from axle isolators (second repair)to interior parts such as door panels (all of them) breaking, vent tabs falling off, nav system inoperative (2nd unit), window switches inop on driver door, front driveshaft replaced, brake calipers froze up, Try replacing a starter as you will need to grow two additional hands to help. Can't say much good about this automobile. Even the resale value stinks.

We have owned this Jeep since it was brand new. The performance is great on the V8, as is the features we have (leather, navigation, DVD, satellite radio) but we take great care of our vehicles, and unfortunately this generation of Grand Cherokee has held up the worst of all of the ones we've owned (we've owned three out of the four generations of Grand Cherokee). The center console lid is worn, the rear DVD headphones broke, etc. They claim it is "quieter than a Jaguar S-Type 3.0", but the transmission is quite noisy. I don't recommend this generation of Grand Cherokee.

Love my Jeep. Had some problems right away when we bought it. We bought the $200 deductible warranty which came in handy. Had to rebuild the rear differential and fix the cruise control wiring. Now it has the famous "Service 4 Wheel Drive System" message but not worrying about fixing that. It pulls my 16' boat like nothing and never downshits going up hills. Get's great mpg. 19 on freeway and 21 at 60 mph. Hemi is the way to go.

I purchased my Jeep in February 2012. It was a pretty good find, given it's age...only 34k miles on it when purchased. Rocky Mountain Edition (nice wheels, leather, sunroof, power everything, heated seats, Boston Acoustics). I've put 15k miles on it since I bought it...with ZERO problems. The only thing I can think of was I got a warning about my 4x4 system for about 3 minutes while on the highway, but nothing since. Handles well for an SUV, plenty of power (love the torque from the 4.7L), and gas mileage isn't terrible (I can get 20-21 on the highway). Very pleased with this Jeep.

This car is a pile of Sh**! I have had so much electrical problems on this car that i don't even know what to do anymore. Spent so much $ at the STEALERSHIP and still has problems. The dealership loves it when you bring your car in. All they do is plug in the scanning device, read the error code, and tell you how much its gonna cost to replace the part. The error code might not even be the main problem. Ive seen it when error codes start changing after you replace the part that it told you to. Then your down $2-3000s and the problems not even fixed. There could be some kind of computer error and its just punching out random codes. JEEP SUCKS and STEALERSHIP SUCKS! DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The door handles are built into the whole inside panel, and they are brittle. so we have a 05 limited with the HEMI 5.8L 2 door handle have broken, 3rd on way out. and looking at 700+ per door. 99% of cars have the handle seperate, why the heck they choice this design i dont know, but its poorly done. there was talk they were going to recall this online, but to thi date they havent and refuse to help with this. DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love my Jeep. Bought it used August 2011 and have had nothing but good from it so far. Everything worked when i got it, only thing that doesnt now is my rear park assist system, for some reason when i put her in reverse, all the red lights show up and it beeps, but thats it no big deal, cheap fix. Looks great, mean on the road ;) Great four wheel drive system, but thats expected from Jeep. Some people complain about the hard surfaced interior in areas but i love it because its durable and not cheap. My only complaint is wheres the snow? I live in Minnesota and its been a weak winter, hardly any snow. That's the main reason i got this beast.

My uncle bought it new in 05 then I bought it from him and its a 60,000 miles and going strong it rides amazing but the v6 is sluggish (really need to mash the pedal to pass on the hwy) gas milage isnt great but i'm not complaining. it has been rattled hard (uncle lived on a dirt, rutted horrible road lol) and has only had a few problems.

I have the limited HEMI with QDII 4 wheel drive system. I have over 150,000 miles on her and let me say, I have more money into a 2008 town and country with 38,000 miles than I do into the Jeep. The jeep has been used and abused for the last few years. Ive gone offroading, towed 6,500 lbs countless times, and I constantly am flooring it to hear the HEMI SCREAM! The only problems I have had is a new ECM($300) and a loud bearing that I cant pinpoint(~$50). And of course new tires and brakes but any car needs those. This Jeep still has boatloads of power, and there is no sign of wear or tear. It looks like it has 5,000 miles on it. No rust despite several michigan winters. Great SUV!!!

I Bought this Jeep in 2005 brand new. It has been reliable and fun to drive. I drive about 35000 miles a year and this vehicle has served me well. I only took it to the dealer a few times and the rest of the time the local oil change place. It has 201,000 miles on it and I am going to trade it in for something that gets better mileage. No major problems. Maybe they run better when you run the heck out of em!

I bought my 2005 wk new and it now has 105000 miles. Ive abused it in the snow, at the beach and on the trails. Had to replace the starter at 60k miles ($200) and the heater core at 90K miles ($1000). I plan on keeping the vehicle another 100K.

I bought my 2005 Jeep back in october of 2010 with only 31,000 miles on it. the previous owner had this vehicle LOADED and we got a great price for it. it has been nothing but PERFECT for us. the only thing it didn't come with was the tow package so we bought an aftermarket hitch receiver (Curt) and it looks wonderful and works amazing. we have not had a single problem with this vehicle. the ride is smooth which is something i didn't expect. the gas mileage is to be desired, but it's worth it for the ride and functionality of the 2005 JGC!

Wow! I was surprised at so many negative reviews I felt I had to share my experience. I am the original owner of my Jeep and currently have 88K miles. I have had no signifigant problems. At about 85K the liftgate has started to not stay in the up position but the parts online are under $100 and we plan to fix this. We have also had the plastic break a bit on the rear doors behind the handle but I think this could also be due to my kids hanging on it. Again that was over 80K miles. Mechanically it has been great. have the Nav and it has been great to. I have loved it so much that I have decided to buy a Commander since we are outgrowing this. I love it

This car is amazing... when it's working right. I've had so many problems, cracked axle (seriously), new tires at like 50,000 miles, transmission computer glitches, had to replace the stereo system, new shocks, and now the instrument cluster is the latest. I've put way more money into this car than it ever was worth. And I love it, taking it off road was awesome, but I was always freaked out that something would happen to it, almost too much to enjoy it. Honestly I can't wait to trade it in for something more reliable.

Sorry to say I wouldn't buy again, imput shaft broke off transmission at 36K. cover by warranty. Had to replace electronic shifter module 4 times which they covered under 7\70000 now it needs a 5th. one and they won't cover it for some reason and it only has 61k and will cost almost $1000.00 and this is a safety problem try pulling into traffic and your jeep stops. p0700 code replaced water pump at 56K. Mopar just lost a 40 year fan because of this. To bad because believe or not I really liked my jeep. If you want to spend $1000.00 ever 12k-14k for a shifter module go ahead and buy one.

Change battery twice, the 4 doors panels are made from a very cheap plastic and break easy cost to repair 4 doors almost $2000, front panels each $640 rear each $ 420, factory won't help or accept the bad quality, never will buy a Chrysler again was my first and last.

Why does it seem that i have to fix the transmission in my Jeep every year. It's always the shift modulator. My buddy just got a Jeep of the same year and drove it off the lot and when he got in his drive way it did the same thing as mine. Transmission light came on and you cant switch to manual shifting. i think Jeep needs to get me a new transmission.

I bought my Jeep used only a year old. I had no problems with it till 2008. I had to replace the blend door in it ($763) of course the warranty wouldn't take care of it. Last winter i went to start it and one of the rods popped off. (WOW) and again the warranty didn't pay. Now this year right before summer, AGAIN, the blend door breaks again, another ($763). My transmission will slip once in awhile so I'm sure that will be next. I have never had a car with this many BIG problems in such a short time. My gosh its only 5 years old.

These cars are lemons. Every complaint here will eventually happen to you. Just replaced starter, now coolant leak, AC switches broken. I mean come on this car has 42,000 miles on it. I'd stay away from Jeep products, they are clearly not designing or building anything but a heap of junk.

Great vehicle. I bought it for winter all wheel drive and towing motorcycles. It has done everything well. Comfortable and quiet for travel. Only mechanical issue is a stripped cog on the electric seat adjustment (it gets used a lot). Just reached 60,000 after five years. Only drawbacks, besides the seat, are poor fuel economy in town and towing, and the relatively extensive routine maintenance. On balance, compared to other cars and trucks I've owned, it has been a good value. My wife likes it, so it would be nice to have two (the seat would last longer).

I had a bought a brand new 96 and had no problems with it, so i decided to upgrade bought this Jeep after bringing it home water pump started going out took it back then after that air bag light kept going off and now I keep having dry starts, The inline 6 motor they had was great,thats why they changed them into regular motors so that they would break down easier, never again will I buy a jeep.

Have been driving the 3.7 version for almost two years. Towed a fully loaded 5x8 enclosed trailer weighing 2000 lbs across the country with no problems in the mountains. Turn radius in parking lot is similar to small car. Power steering works great when at full stop. Spark plugs are difficult to replace, but not impossible. Climate control is quick to respond.

My 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Hemi is a big pile of junk. I've had nothing but problems with it since buying it in 2008. I had to replace the Starter at 60,000. Fuel Pump at 65,000. Transmission at 77,000. Power Steering Pump and Line at 78,000. 4 new tires at 55,000 miles, battery at 60,000. I feel like the jeep is in the shop more than I have driven it. Very unreliable but have so much stuck into it, feel sick to trade in. Currently my Service 4WD system light came on and I just got it back from getting a new Power Steering Pump. Dealer has been nothing but rude. We will never but another jeep again.

I love my Jeep, but it won't stop breaking. The back is full of spare parts that always brake, lots of fuses and extra wire to make a fusible link from the battery. Why don't they have a fuse for the radio or power Windows? And why don't they make parts out of something other than plastic? I have been buying parts from the Audi dealership, and modifying them to work on my Jeep. Its now a Jedi.

I have been driving my Jeep almost 4 years now and have been pleasantly surprised. It has held up fairly well. The only issues have been with the starter and a replaced pinion seal. Its been a thrill to drive on the road, snow, rain, mud, and sand. I never got stuck or was beaten off the line. The 4x4 and Hemi are excellent.

Love the ride, the storage, but can't get past the transmission problems. Would like to buy another Jeep, but can't forget the burn it gave me the first time. Sorry can't recommend, unless you have $3,000 for a Transmission.

Bought this used, in 15 months been in the dealers 5 times. Still under the 7- 70 coverage, but doesn't ever get fixed. Shift and noise issues. Dealer replaced trans valve body, trans went out all together days later. They serviced the front diff, same thing,diff went out days later. Every time gets worse after they touch it. At the dealer now, "no problem found", sounds like a Mack truck going down the road. Just waiting to see what else they've screwed up. Have the v-8, power lacking, gas mileage stinks. My wife loves it for some reason. My Tahoe at 130k is twice the car this ever was, less noise, better mpg, very few repairs, nothing major like this thing.

I have a 2005 GRand Cherokee. I have been driving it for 2 years. I have had numerous transmission problems two different control modules a million blown fuses, electrical sensors and so on. I always wanted a jeep and never have heard of such problems with one. I bought it at 36 thousand miles and problems started within a week. The first 6 months i spent in the shop getting things fixed under warranty, and 2 years later have spend my own money to fix it. I would not recommend buying one unless u have it thoroughly checked first!

Excellent vehicle! I purchased a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with a Hemi in 2009 with only 38K miles on it. Got a great deal and moved up to now my 3rd JGC. Others being 1997 and 2003. I drove 20K in the first year with zero problems. Only money spent was on maintenance. I have purchased all my Jeeps a few years old to wait out the steep drop in value. I got a $42K car 4 years old in new condition for $17K. I added the best and longest extended warranty and love driving it every day. Of course the gas mileage is awful. It has a 5.7 L Hemi engine. We all know this going in.

WE bought it just to tow our camper! We added a tow bar to tow our camper and have made seven trips so far. Even with the 6cyl 3.7, it pulls and rides like a charm! Just recently we have had to have the drivers door seal replaced due to it protruding out a little far when you enter the drivers seat. The back seat leg room is tight for an adult, but is good for kids.

I bought a 2005 JGC about a year ago and fell in love as soon as I saw her. Bought and took her home that day (unusual for me). 2/4/10, some idiot on her cell phone rear ended me at 50mph and totaled my baby. I bought the car in 2006 with 18,000 miles on it. It now has 95,000. I have not had any mechanical problems. This SUV is one of the smoothest riding vehicles I have been in. Power is good and it is holding up well to the wear and tear. No visible rust. Gas mileage is poor at best. I had been getting between 17-16 mpg around town and 18-19 on the hwy. However, now I am below 13mpg. It may be caused by the lack of driving. I have a company car now so it only gets short trips here and there. Also it tows very well. I have 93,000 miles on this car. I have had only two problems that the dealer should have been able to repair rapidly, but didn't. The alarm system would not open the door with the key and then wouldn't run after opening with the key. The control module was bad and the technician couldn't determine this? The tire pressure monitors also indicate a leak, but are not leaking. I took to a new dealer who checked the car during an oil change and he told me that batteries were bad. This is a very expensive fix at $90 each.

the jeep has had some issues, but overall the fun and satisfaction of driving it has been far beyond my expectations. i bought my 05 5.7L HEMI with 24k, have 49k now, had electrical issues with ac and the knob on the gps fell off, both replaced under warranty. Battery died at 30k. Having electrical issues with lights flashing on and off, haven't had dealership look yet, only works in automatic without problems. keychains broke, cupholder in the back broke, passenger side heat vent broke, sunroof doesn't close right unless i push it along, and it still rolls back sometimes when closing, leather on drivers seat ripped. american car, i got what i paid for, gas guzzling power lo quality build

This is my first Jeep and my first American car. What a disappointment. The car is always giving me problem. Just recently at 27K miles the transmission went. Then again at 36K miles and within a year of the transmission some circuit board that controls the transmission blows. Then it’s the squeaky wheel which will cost me $800 to fix. The car is falling apart and it only has 36K miles and 4.5 years old. BE AWARE AND DO NOT BUY A JEEP. I am trading mine for a more reliable car.

Overall, I am happy with my purchase. I bought my Jeep brand new, and have logged 175,000 miles on it. I had to replace the battery after 2 years, and have had some minor transmission issues. The shifter had to be repaired twice. Otherwise, everything has worked fine. I get an oil change every 6,000 miles, and have the transmission fluid flushed/replaced every year. I had the brakes replaced, but with as much as I drive, that's to be expected. It still runs good, and I will probably keep driving this Jeep until I run it into the ground. A friend of mine bought the same model the same year I got mine. His turned out to be a lemon, but mine runs well. Get a warranty to be safe.

Purchased this Jeep for Ohio Winters and comfort. Purchased with 53K miles. After one year of driving at 69K miles tranny was shot. Noticed vehicle slightly surging on inclines (was tranny slipping). Very upset with 12 pymts rebuild tranny cost $3K. Towed it back to dealer and traded on a 2010 Jeep Patriot. Do not buy this car! Hope our luck changes for the better at a healthy cost.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore my Jeep. I love how it drives, looks, and all the features. It has been my favorite car so far, BUT it has SO many problems!! The sunroof leaks, the dust cover around the shifter broke, windshield washer fluid squirter broke off, the button to open the back hatch glass broke, and it sounds like the transmission is having problems!! for only being 4 years old I had assumed i bought a lemon! Also it seems that there is hardly any room in the back seat.

Oh my, where do I start. So many things gone wrong, parts melting, 4 WD drive system had to be completely replaced, drive shaft when 3 weeks in possession, etc...etc...etc.. it doesn't stop. I kept the car this long just because I looooovve driving it, but I sure can do without all the repairs. I put up with it under warranty, but that is over with. I've had to invest thousands in to my Jeep this year, of course after the 100,000 mile warranty ran out, figures. I would love to trade it in for another one just like it, but all the troubles I had with it scares me to buy another Jeep again, or any other Chrysler product.

Bought the car in October 2008 with 42K miles when my first kid came. It's the 6cyl 3.7L so it's not the fastest thing on the road but it gets the job done. 13 months later it now has 58K miles on it. Only trips to the dealer have been for oil changes every 3-4K. Gas mileage is not that great 15-17mpg city average, around 22mpg highway average. Lots of room in the trunk to haul things. Interior is pretty simple but rugged which I like because it's easy to maintain.

I have had this JGC for 10 months. Within that time I have had to send it in for 2 major repairs. This car has already cost me $1,700 to fix and according to the mechanic, who just replaced my starter, servos and battery, I will be needing a new Water Pump soon. That's another $600 fix. In addition to the mechanical fixes there are several issues that I have let slide, including burnt out LED's in the dash ($150 to repair), window motor broken, AC not getting cold, and door lock getting stuck. This Jeep has been a NIGHTMARE. I've owned 4 jeeps and will probably never buy another one again.

Popping itself into neutral while driving, cannot use the brakes, needing to pull over to turn the car off to get it to work properly. MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE! It does not like to shift out of 3rd gear. I have replaced several parts on this car. Today was at a stop and all the lights on the dash lit up, everything dinging, going on and off for no reason.

I bought a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with a 4.7L engine in February of 2009. It had odd electrical issues - the message center would constantly tell me to "service the 4WD system" but I never used the 4X4 and the rear passenger side window wouldn't roll up after being rolled down. And the car got terrible gas mileage! My previous Jeep, a 1999 model had gotten great mileage and I never had problems with it. It was a great car! Then my boyfriend totaled my '05 Jeep. To replace it, I decided on an 05 Limited with the 5.7 (Hemi). And this new one stinks too! Gas mileage is even worse, and the passenger side window won't roll up. Plus, the car leaks when it rains. I used to love JEEP!

I have owned several jeeps over the years both Wranglers and Grand Cherokee. My GC has the 4.7 V8 motor, and I tow a 22 foot boat back and forth to the coast several times a year about 4 hours each way. I also pull a motorcyle trailer all over the southeast. My fuel mileage is just as good as the F250 Diesels. I average 13 to 14 miles per gallon. The jeep is strong and reliable even with 65,000 miles logged in.

I drove this off the lot as happy as can be. I loved every aspect, heated leather, 4 wheel drive, Sunroof, DVD system, etc. I was thrilled during my first year of ownership (I purchased the Jeep with 40K miles). The second year of ownership has been nothing but problems. I have had constant problems with all electrical components (dash lights, A/C, etc). The Jeep turns off unexpectedly... I have had multiple Certified Chrysler dealers look at the problem and nobody has found a fix. The issues aren't constant; they come and go... very annoying. I will not purchase a Jeep again.

I bought my Jeep with 70k on it and and have driven it 5k and my fuel pump needed replaced, a shock was leaking, and my tranny just went out. Each one I had to pay $200 deductible with Chrysler. Thank goodness I bought the extended warranty or id already be out like $4k! If you purchase this vehicle buy the warranty! If I were you though, look elsewhere!

This is the third JGC that we have owned since 1999. we have had a 1999, 2002 and this 2005. the 2002 had a steering pump hose burst on a -20 degree day, but i guess you would have to expect that.. the other two have never had any problems. we have long commutes to work and school for my son, when we had to replace the 2002 after an accident, we decided to try other suv's...after all the test drives, we both agreed that none of them stacked up to the jeep. the leather interior, the 4.7 v8, the sunroof.. all awesome. looks great,and drives even better. we get some nasty snow in the Ohio area, so we are thankful that jeep offers such a superb 4 wheel drive in a great package!

2 weeks into ownership had transmission problems. Took back to dealer several times for adjustments. Not kidding about this paint started "bubbling" on roof pockets of rust showing. Mind you under 5k miles at this point. Made several pleas with Chrysler to make a fair trade deal or something but they ignored me until I got a lemon lawyer. It ended costing them $6k and out of that I ended up with $3k we both lost!

With over 4 years and nearly 60,000 miles I have to say this has been the best SUV ever ! I've been in all driving conditions ( 10in. of snow, down pours, gravel, dirt,uphill, towing and uneven pavement ) with zero problems. JEEP handled everything with ease. Equipped with 3.7L engine and 4WD has plenty of power for road use. Gas mileage was much better at over 22 hwy and 18 city than the Honda Pilot I got rid of.

The first Jeep I had was a 1995 year model had it for 7 years and the only thing that went out on it was the air conditioning. Traded it for a Chrysler Pacifica. Loved the car but 6 months later a 17 year old ran a stop sign and totaled it. That is when I bought the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee and love it as much as the first one. I was taught to keep up maintenance on cars by my Dad's example. I always go to our local Jeep dealer for maintenance. But I will say we bought the extended warranty because of the heavy use of the air conditioning system in Texas. My jeep is not 4WD but it performs well because of the 8 cylinder engine. We have had it for almost three years and still like it.

Every other week the check engine light goes on, either I have a catalytic converter issue or it is just a short circuit. A lot of dangerous blind spots. I would fire the guys who designed the car, it looks like cheap plastic stuff. Nice to drive, even though wind noise unbearable when going over 60 mph.

Warranty repairs that charge a deductible, parts that wear out in less than two years (and AREN'T covered under warranty), and a customer service agent who told me that she didn't need my business. Just noticed that there were ZERO Chrysler products (including Jeep) were recommended by Consumer Reports: I'm buying a new vehicle in the next three months and it (sadly) can't be a Jeep.

I drive a Jeep Laredo Cherokee '05. I bought it used with 18K already on it. I have owned it 3.5 years. Other than routine maintenance, I have not had to replace one part. At 46K, I even have the original brake pads. At the last brake inspection, my trusted mechanic said I may go to 50K or beyond on them. A year ago, I was rear ended by a hit and run driver, on one of the famous Massachusetts rotaries. In a smaller, foreign car I'm certain my car would have had some serious damage and I would have been sore or injured. Because, I was in my Jeep, I had no injuries and my car only had a few scratches, easily fixed with touch-up paint.

So I will say that I always absolutely loved the grand cherokees until I got to drive one; the quality is horrible. I went to test drive a beautiful black 05 4x4. For the first 5 minutes of the test drive, I was in love. The car was cool and looked good from the outside and the interior was nicely appointed. Then when I stopped at a traffic light, all of a sudden, the certified pre-owned truck died and had to be towed. We went back to the lot and I picked out another one and this other one wouldn't start. At this time I decided to leave and forget about buying a Jeep at all. Again, these were 2 certified pre-owned jeeps with less than 30,000 miles that broke down while I was trying to buy

bought this vehicle Jan 09, with 17000 miles on it and thought I had purchased a good vehicle. have owner several jeeps before without problems , all being wranglers so I would consider myself a loyal Jeep owner. The transmission light on the dash has came off and on several times but has never acted or done anything weird and went out. Just prior to reaching 22,000 miles the transmission just died. I could manually shift in 1st 2nd and reverse and thats it. just took it to the dealer and they have to rebuild it. as I was looking through these posts I think this wont be the last time either. DON'T buy this vehicle. If the trany drops after 22,000 miles I cant wait to see what else will happen

I received my jeep as a Christmas present. It has been amazing! I had so many problems with getting my other cars stuck in the snow. It was a major relief to get my jeep. I never got stuck again! However, my jeep has a very inconvenient problem. Sometime when I drive it the transmission will not shift. I have to pull over and turn off the vehicle, but then it works just fine! Also, the tire pressure light comes on randomly and makes a dinging noise. I like how my jeep heats up fast and the heated seats work wonderful.

Nice vehicle that had to go due to too many problems. Replaced the gear shifter mechanism, front shock, rear differential, two computer modules and the sunroof. I did not trust it out of warranty. Only had 37,000 miles. The resale value was terrible, originally a loaded 40K V8. Wound up with 15k on a trade in and in and lucky to get that.

I was so happy when I first purchased my Cherokee. Brand new off the lot, it was shortly after I started having problems. Tranny, rack & pinion, etc... The dealer, no matter which one I took it to was so bad I had to start taking it to a paid mechanic who himself states he sees too many of these in the shop. After I had my baby I had a terrible time with his car seat and the back. I was so disappointed as this is supposed to be a family car. NO! I don't even feel safe with him in the car now... its having back electrical problems causing interior lights to flash, no starts and weird smells. I am DONE WITH THIS THING! I have lost nearly double what this originally cost and won't get it back.

I unloaded my 05 limited, it had all the options and was my dream vehicle. I bought it at one year old to save a few bucks. I'm sorry i ever traded my 2000 Cherokee for it. In the two years I owned it it leaked from the sunroof badly, blew a rear seal and had to replace the rear. Had two computer modules go. If your having weird things go on it is usually one of the modules. Everything was replaced under warranty and seemingly fixed but the luster had worn off because of the poor quality and I sold it as soon as the warranty expired. If i had to pay for the repairs myself it would have cost over $3,000. Jeep and Chrysler is off my list to buy for good. Only had 37,000 miles, what a shame.

Trail Rated 4.7 V8 w/trailer tow package best bet. In 45 years of driving (almost all 4x4/awd) my JGC Laredo is one of the best highway cruisers I've ever owned. I live in Winnipeg, MB, Canada and I've never understood why everyone doesn't own a 4x4/awd vehicle. It pulls my boat (1500 lbs) and I don't even know it's attached. My son from Calgary is buying the Jeep from me because after looking for a newer vehicle, both in Calgary and Winnipeg, my Jeep came up "best" as a vehicle for the next 2-3 years as the auto industry goes thru some major changes. Now I have to do the looking for a replacement and the Jeep GC is the only NA vehicle I'd consider. Ext. warranty hasn't been needed yet.

Bought an 05 Lauredo 4x4. 110 miles currenlty. No issues but I actually did the maintence....my local mechanic told me you gotta change the transaxle fluid on jeeps or it will burn up. Keep up on that and your oil changes. Got 70k out of 1st set of brakes, 100k out of two original tires. Replaced the tires with General Grabber HTS, much quieter now at speed but lost 1mpg highway. Good tradeoff as far as I am concerned. Be forwarned, everything you do to this car is expensive. Brakes were 1k, tires 800.00, oil $50, Transaxle flush $200.00 Do the maintence though or just save yourself the trouble and buy a Toyota. Overall a very good car my my standards though!

Since I have bought the Jeep the check engine light kept coming on, took it to a Jeep dealership and replaced Transmission Control Module. Still having same issues and I took it back to dealership and now it is the shifter module. It doesn't want to switch gears and when I put it in drive or reverse it doesn't want to go. Does anyone know anything about this or has had some of the same issues?

I bought the car in 06 with 23K miles on it. By 45K miles, I had to replace the transmission. At 60K I had to replace the starter, alternator, brake pads, rotors, and transmission again. 2 weeks later, the drive shaft and casings were all replaced. Now, at 75K I am looking to replace the drive shaft again and possibly a wheel baring. The service manager at a dealership told me that starting in 05 Jeep started "turning and burning them!" Doesn't exactly make you feel good about your purchase!!! Be very careful when buying a Jeep from 05 and on!

As others have stated, this is the worst vehicle I have owned. This past Sunday, it went to the dealership on a tow truck for the 6th time in the past year (yes, 6th time). The first 5 times were because it would not start - as in completely dead! The battery was replaced 3 of the 5 times. This last time was for the transmission. According to the dealership, the filter cracked and the transmission needs to be rebuilt. They are waiting for a part to come in. Lucky for me, it has all been covered under warranty. I am, however, now afraid to drive it anywhere but local for fear of it failing again and leaving me severely stranded!!!

In 2006 we bought an 05 Laredo (18K mi) because we needed a bigger car after having 2nd baby. I had to have it, always wanted a Jeep Cherokee. Not 10 months later transmission had to be rebuilt. 10 months later again, transmission had to be replaced. Both times under warranty, but I have a feeling work was already done, before we got it. 1 year later we are having same problem: leaking fluid and starting to shift hard, taking it in for third time in less than 3 years. Never ever buying a Jeep again, for that matter any Chrysler-Daimler make.

I bought a 2005 Jeep Grand Cher Limited 4WD w/ the Hemi Upgrade in 05 brand new. In 06 I had to have a new transmission, transmission pump and onboard computer installed they told me it was the computer that caused the pump to malfunction which made the transmission go. I was told it would take two months by the dealership to get the part I called Chyrsler and they overnighted the part and lent me a 93 jeep as a loaner with a broken heater in the winter. In July of 08 my transmission went again the manager of the shop told me he didn't know why it happened. In November I didn't pass inspection because I had an electrical short in my ABS which cost $499 not under warranty. Be Careful

We bought the V8, received employee discount, thought we were getting a "good deal". Wrong! Within 3 months needed a manifold gasket replaced. Within a year was in shop no less than 6 times for electrical problems which caused all interior/exterior lights to flash on and off, finally an ignition switch change fixed it. Ball joints replaced due to severe creaking, now at 33,000 it looks like the starter went. This is ridiculous for a vehicle that has this few miles and cost this much. Service at dealership sub par, took complaints to owner, he could care less. (Now sold to another dealer) Now we will take it in the shorts to dump this, not worth what we owe. Will never buy Jeep again!

The 3.7 L V-6 is a disappointment. After dealing with: transmission problems (apparently loose parts); a fuse box that took me a couple of weeks to determine where it was located and still haven't gotten a good look at them to change the one I think may be responsible for the windshield wiper washer not working; a leak inside the cabin every time it rains is driving me nuts (I don't have time for this, I need my car to work full time; strange outside wind noise which you will get used to, just as people who live near airports get used to airplane noise; in other words, if your time is precious and have to work for a living don't buy this car. Take your pick of problems!

Transmission is slow to engage at times, acts like it is slipping, you gas it and it free revs, exhaust manifold leak, limp mood is triggered sometimes by transmission issue resets to 3rd gear and is very slow, battery already went bad 3 years old (special expensive battery needed), surging at idle, dealership services, they have only fixed the manifold, numerous attempts by dealership but have never fixed. They could never get it to do it and the service manager would never return my messages. Had differential fluid changed and they charged me an extra $60.00 to just shut off the light. Planning on taking some where else to fix.

I thought i loved my jeep. After the first 2000 miles, while being transitioned from neutral to drive at the car wash, the vehicle instantaneously accelerated on its own causing a 3 car pile up in the exit ramp of a car wash injuring one of te attendants. What's almost worse is the fact hat i can't go anywhere without worrying whether or not my car will let itself out of park. I've had the console gear shifter replaced 3 times while under warranty, and again now for the 4th time. @ $700 for the repaint that seemingly never lasts longer than 10 months, i hate the car and would rather walk than own another jeep again.

Traded in an Acura. This Laredo is so much more comfortable on long trips. Especially visibility, soft adjustable seats for smaller people, lack of road noise. Getting 22.5 mpg on interstates, 65 mph, A/C always on, V- 6 motor, 2WD.

For those who have a hard shift in your transmission when cold or muggy OR the transmission has a hard time engaging. I finally found the problem after 8 months of taking notes and driving to the dealership. Talk with the transmission technician and ask to run a diagnostic on the transmission pump and valves. The transmission bleeds pressure overnight and the pump isn't pushing the fluid into the transmission fast enough, also the valves are misfiring and opening valves to build pressure instead of closing them. Hope this helps.

My husband had a 1999 Jeep and gave it to his mother - still running at 250K miles. Thought we could go for the 5.7 HEMI new in 06 (it was leftover 05 inventory) but I am willing to take any loss to get rid of it now. My battery has died constantly since Feb 2007, 10 months into ownership with less than 12,000 miles. Had the battery replaced twice (at $220 ea - not covered under warranty and no option to get anywhere but the dealer!!), replaced the alternator, replaced defective sunroof motor that was drawing power, repaired an AC leak, replaced the starter and now having the powertrain control module replaced while I am 300 miles away from home and stuck having to get it towed! NO MORE!

The first major problem was the rear differential. At 62,000 it was toast. OK, my fault. Never had it serviced. Periodic maintenance "forces" you into Schedule B (any driving in freezing weather) which includes changing front rear axle fluid every 12,000 miles at $140 an axle, etc. Never serviced any of the 5 Sub's either. The Nav sys display has quit working. It has come on a couple of times, then off again. Dealer says to replace it. Today it goes into local shop. Sometimes it just stalls. Now the elect. fan just runs for no reason. Engine temp OK. AC went last year. Has new compressor. Now it has quit. This is the SUV from hell!

This car was bought new in '05. The first week I saw that rain water would leak into my interior through a hole in the pillar to the left of the windshield. We took it in and got it fixed, stopped the leaking. A few months later the first transmission problem occurred, slipping and then losing power after third gear. We got it fixed and it happened two more times throughout the next year or so. Almost right after I passed the 30k miles, one of my interior LEDs behind the instrument panel died. Now I am not having any problems, except I am bugged that any small splash of water on the seats (cloth) will leave a nasty white stain. But being my car, I've grown fond of her.

My husband and I purchased this vehicle to have something safer and more dependable for our future family. We have barely owned this thing for a little over a month and it has been in the shop for its forth time now! After putting the first full tank of gas in it after purchase we got a check-engine light. Was not fixed the first time so we had to take it back in for a second and third visit. Now the lights on the dash panel flash on and off, check engine light still comes on, gauges fluctuate, and the automatic trans will not shift when driving. I am very disappointed. We are giving the dealership one more chance to make this right then we are done with it.

Bought this vehicle to replace my 1999 GMC truck that I wrecked. The vehicle was still under factor warranty when I bought the car. I'm getting 18-20 mph around town and 20-24 on the road. I like the design of the Jeep and the ride and for the price it was the best deal that I could find. Had to have something large enough for a family of t but still got decent MPH.

I have been driving Grand Cherokee Limiteds since 1994 and they have come a long way. They are built better and quieter and handle extremely well. The Limited is luxurious and extremely comfortable yet amazingly responsive. The vehicle is smooth, responsive and extremely comfortable but still gives the driver the feedback and general feel of a sport utility to make the drive fun and non limo like. The off road experience is second to none for those who like to drive off of the asphalt sometimes. Great vehicle for Drivers and their families too! Generally

We bought our Jeep in Dec 2004 and got the great "employee pricing"so we got the loaded Lmtd. for only 33k. The navigation has gone out - twice. Rear wiper broke off - twice. Had leather seat re-done, etc. We have had a lot of problems with the car, but the car is a luxury vehicle at an economy price. We had a BMW which required constant care, this in comparison has not been a real problem. I do think the trans. is about to go though. It's been sticking a lot lately. But really, for the amount of time I spend in the car, it has held up pretty well. The chrome rims and inferno red color get looks all the time. Money in repairs has been reasonable so far, I don't think its worse than other cars.

Overall, it's not a bad vehicle. This is my third Jeep, and I have no major complaints. Reliability has been pretty good - I've had a few minor warranty repairs, but that's it. Engine runs and pulls like a champ, and I get lots of compliments on the styling. Build quality could be a little better, but it's not awful either. I'll be honest - I didn't spend Toyota money and I don't expect Toyota quality. Gas mileage is 15 city / 20 highway, but that drops pretty quick if I drive it hard.

We bought this Jeep for my wife to drive to work, works awesome in snow and ice love the all wheel drive, I love the looks of it, also love the sound of the throaty v8 engine, would sound better with dual exhaust, the bad is we have only owned it for three months and have had to put $500 worth of parts into it, I am a mechanic so I take care of my vehicles, the front speakers suck they rattle already and need replaced, there is a light blown out for the heater controls so can't see what the setting is at night, already had to replace the starter @ $300 and a wheel bearing on the front @ $230, that is just for parts, pretty pathetic at only 37,000 miles, wonder what else is going to go out?

I have owned my Creep for 3 yrs. and I have not had any problems. I get avg. 19ish mpg driving 45(avg.)mph. Headroom in drivers seat could be higher for dh as he is 6'2". I have no problems at 5'5".My only big problem is water stains the cloth seats and when I try to clean with water it makes it worse. Back seat is not comfortable-quite hard in fact. My only complaints.

This is my second Jeep and my last! I love driving it but I can't handle all the problems. I went through the rotor problems with the 2000 model, the transmission recall, a radiator that had to be replaced (at 6000 mi) on the current 2005 model. I purchased the 100,000 bumper to bumper warranty, but of course nothing is ever covered! The last straw is the replacement of the battery. I found out that the battery can't be purchased anywhere but a dealership and it cost 220 with install. since I can't shop around, I call that a monopoly. Customer service (which is outsourced) is patronizing and rude, if you can understand what they are saying. So much for buying American.

This is my 2nd JEEP GC Limited, and am not impressed. I had a 2003 GC Limited, and was not happy with the reliability. So I drove a Nissan for almost 3 years, and of course no problems. I decided I liked the HEMI power and looks of the new design, and assumed they would have made the reliability better, but in my case, it is worse. Starter went at 15,000 miles, 2 Stem Valve Sensors, Crankshaft Sensor, missing Radiator fluid, and now needs a new Manifold gasket at 30,000 miles. Today I traded it in on a new Toyota TRD Tacoma. I once again tried to support American cars, but I cannot afford to anymore, my time is money, and I spend most of it in the shop with a JEEP!

I loved this Jeep when I first bought it 11-06. 12-23-06 I was on my way out of town for Christmas when the transmission went out 100 mi from home with no warning. 1 yr 3 mo later the trans is going out again. Keeps slipping out of gear and sticking in 2nd. There was another Jeep (an 07) at the same shop, same day, with the same problem and the mechanics said they're seeing this a lot. Apparently the problem is the ZF trans. It's also used in other vehicles and some of them are having problems. Jeep looks good but isn't dependable. I guess some people are having good luck with theirs but many others are not. If you Google Jeep transmission problems you'll find a lot of information.

Bought 2005 GC used in Aug 2006. Vehicle has been nothing but problems - steering column replaced, computer system replaced (at Chrysler's cost), EGR valve replaced. Vehicle only has 46,000 miles on it. Vehicle would stall while driving, wouldn't start on first try - Jeep service dept didn't believe me when I told them it just "died" while driving. Now there's a rattling sound when slight pressure is put on gas pedal.

In November 2006 I purchased a used Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4WD. It only had 10,000 miles on it. I immediately began having problems with the automatic transmission with the following problems: (1) Needed a transmission control module; (2) clogged transmission filter; (3) leaking O rings and finally had to have the transmission replaced at 18,000 miles. The car left us stranded twice on the highway. The second time I thought the car would catch on fire. I will never purchase a Chrysler product again. I don't care what their warranty period is. This is the poorest quality on construction I have ever seen in an automobile.

This is my first JGC and I expected much more from a reputable brand like Jeep. First problem: water leaking inside cockpit thru the windshield (4 days at dealer - 1,500 miles). Then came a recall from factory for some major fault in a transmission seal (1 day in service - 10,000 mi). Third big disappointment:car won't start - fuel pump sudden death fuel pump with short circuit in pump cabling! (3 days at shop - 13,000 mi). Fourth and counting...:computer/start key system malfunction, car won't run (3 days at service - 22,000 mi). Latest problem: car won't start - stalled at mall inside garage, towed to dealer yesterday.... Don't know what the problem is (aaaarrg!) just 2 more months for lease end!

I've owned several SUVs and this one has been reliable, luxurious, capable of handling off road trips, and fast. I like the clean lines, simplicity of the controls/switches, and the leather interior is nice and the seats are very comfortable. The 5.7L Hemi is a rocket and the 4wd Quadra Drive system handles snow, ice, rain, mud, and off- roading/camping with ease. My only wish is for better gas mileage, as I get 15mpg in the city and only 18mpg on the hwy at 75mph. I've not had a single problem with this Jeep and would buy again. It has a 7yr/70k powertrain warranty, so I'll keep it at least that long--not anticipating any problems with regular maintenance. I'd recommend this vehicle.

I traded a 2002 Overland for this 2005 Limited; my wife traded her 2001 Laredo for a 2005 GC Limited as well. Got a great deal and been happy with both of them (hers was a demo and is more fully loaded than mine). Granted, there have been a few minor glitches, but the dealer has been fantastic in getting things fixed correctly the first time. Mostly small stuff (ignition switch, steering angle sensor, various TSB's) and never anything that would leave us stranded.

I was just shocked at some of the reviews that I was reading that I had to join to write my own. I've only owned my Jeep for about 9 months and I love my Jeep The 3.7 isn't the biggest or fastest but I fixed that with a cold air intake that I purchased at an auto parts store and now I have just as much horsepower as any other v6 out there. I would almost gaurantee a little bit more. And as for the people that are complaining about the transmission and stuff the only thing I have had a problem with is my pinion gasket which Jeep was more than happy to replace and I'm the second owner. The Grand Cherokee I think all around is great and plan on buying another one when I'm done with this one.

First time Jeep owner, mpg city 10, mpg hwy 20. Big problems with trans. When it's cold trys to take off in second then shifts hard in to first. Problems going into rev at times, goes in false neutral when stopping sometimes. Trans whines after it warms up. ABS actives when stopping uphill almost every day. I live on a hill. Problem with check engine light comes on and off. Dealer has no clue. What a suprise! I like the way the ext and int looks. For the most part it runs great, never no problems with the motor. I do all my own maintence so I haven't found any leaks. Two times a year I take it to the Nevada desert and bomb through the sand no problems at all. From CA to NV avg 22mpg.

I am on my second Jeep Grand Cherokee now and will not purchase another. My first Jeep, a 2001 needed constant brake replacement and the transmission and transfer case both broke down. My 2005 Jeep currently has 37,500 miles and the mounts on the transfer case/transmission went out while I was driving and I was stranded at a busy intersection. Now, even though I have an extended warranty...Chrysler may not cover it. They also make you service the differentials every 12,000 miles at $300 each time...no other car company I called required this. The brakes on this car have also been replaced 3 times. I am done with Jeep.

When I was looking for an SUV I was only looking at the Volvo XC90 or the BMW X5. My husband had me try the Jeep and I fell in love. I have every available option, bluetooth, Sirius radio, nav., auto dimming lights, rain sensor wipers and on and on. I have over 60K miles and have yet to have a single problem with this vehicle. I sell real estate so I am in my car all the time and taking clients around. They are always impressed with the interior and are suprised it's a Jeep. We will be selling it soon because I need something bigger with two kids in carseats but I will buy a Dodge/Chrysler product again in a heartbeat.

Leased my GC in April '07. This is my 3rd Jeep, loved my first two, and hey, this new GC looked sweet. Yeah, well that lasted about a year. The seats are stained because my water bottle leaked on them. The tranny shimmies instead of downshifting. I have a burn on my forehead because the check engine light has been on so many times. Sometimes it won't shift, or gets stuck in overdrive when at a stop. Have taken it in for service 3 times now, and they always tell me nothing is wrong and they reset the computer, then 2 miles down the road the light comes back on. I was told it needs a new tranny computer and they don't order them unless it is a real problem....hmmm....I'm buying a Toyota

This is, and has been, the absolutely best Jeep to roll off of Jeeps assembly line. This includes every new Jeep that is out there on Jeep lots today. Now, instead of building an off road Jeep that is just as good on the freeway as it is in crossing streams and rocks; now all they are building is wimpy, slightly bigger, two wheel drive, land yachts that trade performance for gas mileage and are not even trail rated. Really sad. If you are looking for a real Jeep Grand Cherokee, look for a 2005 limited edition with the 5.7 liter engine. That is if you can find one that the owner will let go of. In that area, I do wish you luck! You won't be getting mine!

This is my first Jeep, and now I finally know what Jeep owners have been raving about all these years. What a great truck, from the sharp looks to the fun of driving it. Great on the highway, I've gotten up to 23 mpg on long trips ( I have the 4.7 V8 ). I don't do nearly as ggod around town, 13- 15 mpg. All on 87 octane. Comfortable on the inside. I live in the northeast and get snow in the winter and this thing is terrific in the snow. Overall a great vehicle. Biggest drawback is the poor gas mileage, but that's the trade-off. Great truck for bad gas mileage.

Worst car I've ever owned! Dies at low speeds, rough idle, dealer can't seem to fix the problem. No codes in the computer? This seems to be problem with the 4.7 V8, read the other reviews or any Jeep forum. Now the check engine light is on and it's transmission related. I had a '96 G.C. never a problem, now I own the Anti-Chrysler. Such a shame, it's beautiful Car.

Love the look but it has it's problems.

I have to say I love the look of this Jeep. It has class and it's sporty. I love the way it drives. It's smooth and I get about 23mpg on the highway but in the city it only gets about 13.5mpg so that could use some improvement. What I don't like is when I come to a stop the transmission down shifts very hard and it's just annoying. I've only had it for about 2 months and I like except for that small problem. I really wish they would have kept the old transmission instead of going with a stupid Mercedes transmission because I don't like the feel of it. I haven't had other problems with it but then again I have the 100,000 mile warranty and my Jeep only has 23,000 on it so that will work.

Bought the Jeep new in Dec of 04 at a great price,and after 2 1/2 years of owning it we figured out why. Build quality is the poorest of any vehicle I have owned. The V6 is so underpowered it was almost scary at times, merging onto highways was not fun. The tranny wouldn't down shift as needed to keep the RPMs and torque up. Blind spots everywhere, seats stain with rain water or condensation off a water bottle, jittery / uncomfortable ride, no room in the back seats, I could go on but there is limited space left. Traded it on an '08 Pathfinder SE V6 with twice the power.

Something must be done!!!

I have had my Grand Cherokee for 2 yrs. now and since day one it has had problems. It started with a hard start, or two and since 2000 miles has stalled. The dealership can not do anything because there are no trips to the computer and the vehicle starts back up. I have also had my sunroof drain tubes replaced, window parts replaced, sunroof parts replaced, a faulty step button replaced, and my 4WD light and air bag light came on for some time. I have almost been hit twice in the past two years because the vehicle completely shuts down while driving. SOMETHING MUST BE DONE!!

This has been the worst vehicle we have ever bought. We bought this Jeep new a year ago and have had it in the shop 5 times and it has less than 10000 miles. Since then, it has been one electrical problem after another. Surprise, Surprise, it is fine when it goes to the Jeep dealer. They do all their tests and drive it and tell us that it shows there are 3 things coming up on their computer, but it does not say what is wrong and they don't know what to fix. This last time it completely stalled and started 3 times while driving on a very busy road with 2 toddlers in the back and 110 degrees outside. Needless to say I don't feel safe. We are going to take the loss and sell before left stranded

I am amazed at reading comments that say there are blind spots, or cheap plastic trim, or low windshields or uncomfortable seats etc etc. You'd think none of these owners, ever test drove their vehicles before buying them. If you're fat or short or tall, a Jeep is never the right purchase - simply not enough adjustibility. It's made for the average buyer at an average price and has average reliability, fuel economy and comfort. Some seem to think that buying a US car means something more than mediocrity. It doesn't. So either buy a decent car at a decent price, or wake up about what a Jeep is all about.

This is my 3rd Jeep. "89 Cherokee 4.0L- great vehicle/'99 GC LTD. 4.7L-just OK/"05 GC LTD. 5.7L Hemi is wonderful vehicle. My wife and I take several 600+ mile trips per year and would'nt think of driving anything else. Just replaced tires and brakes after 47000 miles and have had no other quality or repair issues. Took a vacation with another couple and fit all luggage and golf bags in storage area. My friend begged to drive after first time at the wheel. My other vehicle is a '04 300M and that car has been grat as well. I will have no problem purchasing another Chrysler product.

In the two years I've owned it, I've driven only 10,000 miles. I love the look and feel of this car, and I get positive comments too. The acceleration is good for an SUV. You're not driving a BMW coupe. I have the V8. The ride is incredible when compared even to the Lexus RX. Not bumpy or jerky at all. The seats are very comfortable, even on 7 hour trip, and the high seats are great for driving. The only problems I've had are the tire pressure lights coming on a couple times and the air conditioning, when all the way up, making a whistling sound over 55 mph. Otherwise, this car has been a gem. I only wish I could get more than 16mpg

Leased vehicle since May 2005. This is the V8 4.7 engine.This vehicle is a gaz guzzler! Only 14 MPG in mixed use and often 12 MPG only. Water is infiltrating in the car from the right A pillar and despite two visits to the dealership, it's always the same. Now the navigation system is beeping all the time. The dealer says we have to upgrade for a new CD which costs $250! We cannot listen anymore to the radio or any CD because of the beeps! So why it'mandatory to get a new navigation's CD? We do not care about one or two new roads.. This is an unfair practice.
