I bought this car used and it has been amazing for me. Dependable and great in the snow. Electronics have been the biggest issue for this car. But I love this car and looking to get another one...much newer!!

Whenever I , or have mechanic check, all fluid levels, NEVER NEEDED ATTENTION. The tightest best running engine of any car I have owned. Oil always looks clean. Teams fluid, same. Acquired in 2006. 2005 model.

Powerful v6 with quick take off & great 3500 hauling capapability. I haul a trailer with 42 ft boat no problem. The leather seats are firm yet comfortable. Cargo space is just right & roof rack is well designed to adjust quickly to any load. I have owned a Toyota Land Cruiser and I like this smaller SUV better. I carry a 21 foot surfski on the roof rack, tow a trailer and often fold the seats to take advantage of the cargo bed.

Kept up on maintenance, short in horn, hitch, driver window. Premature warring tires due to bad springs, replaced AC compressor and AC condenser. Cam sprocket broke, took car to dealership was told need new engine - WRONG! Took car to a second mechanic put the car back together properly and the car runs fine. Replace your cabin filter often. Verify your VIN number to your contract - mine did not match. Gas mileage did not live up to window sticker. REPLACING BACK 3 SPARKS PLUGS YOU NEED TO TAKE THE TOP HALF OF THE ENGINE OFF...

Will never own another Hyundai

got this car used from a family member who disclosed all problems, showed car fax etc. I have spent more money on this car than this [non-permissible content removed] is even worth! In 2 years and LESS THAN 18,000 miles put on it myself, I've had nothing but problems. Oxygen sensor $200, mass air flow meter $500, both front axels and ABS sensors $1100, serpentine belt + AC compressor $650, not to mention frequent fuel ups! I take excellent care of this car, always getting regular oil changes and monitoring fluids under the hood. Most recently the car has started to have braking problems where the whole car shakes vigorously (probably my rotors going) as well as the most horrible cranking, whining noise when turning the wheel even in the slightest. I just needed this car to last me through college to get me from A to B; it did that while being unreliable, breaking down every few months, and emptying my broke college student pockets. Will never EVER own another Hyundai.

2005 Santa Fe LX AWD. The first car i ever owned was a Hyundai. Since then i owned a BMW, a Dodge, a Mazda, and a Chevy, and I have returned again to Hyundai. My Santa Fe is reliable, capable, comfortable, and relatively easy to maintain. They are fairly common vehicles so parts aren't hard to find. Plenty of space inside, and enough room in the cargo space to stow whatever you want. Folding the back seats down is easy and quick. I put some Toyo All-Terrain tires on mine, and i am comfortable driving it across fields, through mud, snow, ice, and sand. If you're looking for a reliable fun midsize SUV that you can take anywhere, this is your ticket.

Our Santa Fe was bought used and now has 102,000 miles on it. The 2.7 liter is underpowered but gets great gas mileage. There are a few design flaws such as the third brake light hanging in the rear window, and the back 3 spark plugs are under the intake manifold, changing them is expensive and a pain. the last thing is the drivers seat does not go back far enough for taller drivers.

The 2.7 liter V-6 is underpowered, and not good for towing at all. This suv revs high when you want to accelerate quickly, like out of a toll both for example. The interior is compact and not roomy for taller people at all. And I am 5'7". The seats do not go back far enough for the driver and passenger....that's the Biggest complaint. The seats are very uncomfortable as well. Limited rear storage area. I had a 05 Chevy Silverado before the Sante Fe, I switched thinking our kids would have more room...big mistake. I live in snow country, and this is by far the worst vehicle I have ever driven in the snow. Who ever says 4x4 and all-wheel drive are the same are sadly mistaken. By American.

I bought my 2005 Santa Fe with 23 miles on it. I have driven it down to Texas and Mississippi and had great gas mileage. I now have 86K miles on it and have only put new tires on it at 79K as well as new brakes for the first time. I also have done my normal maintenance on it including new timing belt. I have had ZERO issues with my SUV and plan on driving it hopefully another 100K before deciding on a new one. It is the most comfortable vehicle I have ever owned and driven.

I bought the 2005 Santa Fe used just a week ago. The gas mileage is a bit lower than what I expected for a small V6. The 2.7 is just a little bit underpowered for a vehicle of this size. It is very comfortable for an SUV and handles very well. A solid vehicle with a lot of nice standard features. Roomy interior and sporty design. Controls easily reached and easy access getting in and out of the vehicle. Roomy cargo space.

I loved Hyundai when I purchased my 2005 Santa Fe. The car was pretty amazing until spring of '10, when it started to show signs of overheating, without the thermostat going up. Lithia told me it was fine, and I drove it until it started stalling. I took it back in, paid for a new radiator (not under warranty after 60K), and dealt with either cracked radiators/ bubbling coolant or not having a vehicle for 3 months. They couldn't figure out what was wrong. Head gasket had to be replaced (under warranty) but since that had been what blew out the radiator, why didn't I get any refund? Or the more than $1k of equipment that they didn't seem to care was stolen from my car while they had it!

This is my first SUV which I bought used and absolutely love. It runs great, is comfortable and gets pretty good gas mileage. I've had it for 2 years now and have just now run into a snag. My Crank sensor went out on me without any warning. I was driving to work and everything was fine and all of a sudden it started jerking, all my warning lights came on and then it just died on me. I had to have it towed to the dealership & unfortunately my warranty ran out 6 weeks ago so now I'm looking at around $500. Other then this it has been a great first SUV & I would definitely purchase another one.

I was in an accident three years ago, had front-end rebuilt. And still, never one problem before or after. These are great quality vehicles.

And it has the smoothest ride. I highly recommend the Santa Fe to anyone who is in the market to purchase and SUV. It is roomy and also durable. It has class an style. I have no complaints at all about the Santa Fe. I just love it love it love it.

Nothing but warranty problems. The 1st was rust spots all over. It took over 6 months and 2 dealerships, warranty dept, regional DPSM, BBB. Now body side moulding fell off, they said not covered because it is 3/36000, but it's 5/60000. Conference calls with dealer, warranty dept and DPSM still nothing done. Service and warranty mean nothing. I bought because of warranty and it is all a lie. Never buy another again.

We bought our car about 5 months ago and have done quite a bit of light off-roading in it and it handles great, and though we've probably asked for it a few times, it hasn't left us stranded. Performs like a champ in poor conditions and I think it is an extremely comfortable ride. Not so fond of the engine rumble between 60-70 mph, but I'm assuming that has something to do with either the AWD or the miles on the vehicle. Only problem we've had with it thus far is the accelerator sensor which we replaced for a relatively reasonable cost (and frankly, the same thing went out on our Kia which is two years newer the same week). It's a sexy cute little suv and reliable too :)

My Santa Fe was the best driving vehicle I've owned. It got fair gas mileage for an SUV (19-23 MPG). The car was totaled in an accident (neither our or the cars fault) but my husband and I both walked away without a scratch. My husband is 6' tall and didn't like to drive it because even with the seat all the way back, his knees were still in the dash. It would've been better with an MP3 player.

Purchase this Santa Fe used with 25k. The only problem I encountered was a defective rear seat hatch which was covered under the factory warranty. At 54k it still has 30% front and 90% original factory brakes. It rides like a car, gets acceptable mileage and very easy to get in and out of.

I bought this used with over 70,000 miles. Love the car so far, except for fuel economy - coming out of a standard 4-cyl Accord this is a shocker to me. The Santa Fe is awesome in all aspects except for the fuel. I cannot wait to try it in the snow and I am looking forward to buying an updated model after this one. Would definitely buy another one.

I bought this SUV after driving a Jeep for years. I thought nothing would compare to my old Jeep, but the Santa Fe definitely holds its own. I'm rather short, but the Santa Fe has great visibility all around. The only thing I would change is the tan interior; I have dogs and the seats need shampooed quite frequently. Its easy and fun to drive and hasn't given me a problem yet.

I bought this vehicle with 17k mi on it. It now has 137k mi. I have only had one major issue. The throttle position sensor went out. After I found a mechanic who could identify the problem, it only too an hour to fix and the cost was minimal. The factory tires lasted 100k mi. Another problem that was really a non issue, is that when I let the gas get too low the check engine light lit up after i filled it up and stayed on till i used half that tank of gas. I averaged about 20 mpg on all highway miles. It still runs great, just time to move on.

I bought this car after nothing but problems with a Jeep Grand Cherokee Larado. I did research on the sante fe and bought it for the warranty. Great room in back for beach chairs, moving furniture, etc. Good cup holders. Good seats. Only thing I don't like is the engine doesn't seem to have alot of "umpf" but then again I don't need to go more than 70 mph. Have 60k miles now. hope this lasts a very long time for me!

I bought my Santa Fe back in October 2008 - my wife wanted us to have a 4 wheel drive vehicle in case of bad weather. I expected the mileage to go down some from the sedan I had but figured with with conservative driving, I'd at least get in the low to mid 20's. Definitely NOT the case! I'm averaging closer to 16 to 18 miles to the gallon even with mostly highway driving at 70. It runs smoothly and is very comfortable to drive but every time I fill the tank, I cringe. Snow / slick road handling is so-so. My wife's Mazda 6 actually handles a lot better in snow & ice which kind of defeats the purpose of getting the four wheel drive Santa Fe! I will probably end up going back to a sedan.

I have had the car for approx 3 years now. At about the 42,000 mile mark the car developed a problem. While driving the car the rpm suddenly started revving up and dropping back down. The car lunges forward on it's own, then jerks backward. It lunges back and forth as you drive. Wasn't able to make it home. Had the car towed. Dealer said it was the throttle sensor. Fixed it. The car worked for 3 months then developed the same problem. Had it towed again. Same problem. This happened again 3 months later. I'm actually starting to fear driving this car. If I'm on the highway when this happens I could get killed. I'm considering getting rid of the car and getting something else.

Up until buying my Santa Fe I had always driven the smaller cars (Honda Civic, Mazda Protege). It's a good vehicle & very comfortable inside, but I might end up selling it & going back to a sedan. I expected my gas mileage to go down with it being an SUV, but still thought I'd at least average in the low to mid 20's with it being a 6 cylinder and not an 8 & not being that big. However I'm averaging 17 to 20 miles to the gallon and that's even with driving very conservatively. The ride is smooth but I find myself being afraid of any sudden moves. Overall it's not a bad vehicle but be ready to pay more at the pump if you get one.

We bought this Santa Fe about a month before making a 2000 mile trip back to Ohio. It was three years old when we bought it and had 32,000 miles. After driving it 6,000+ miles so far, I have to say it is the most comfortable vehicle I think I have driven to date (I'm 63, 5'7" 150#). The display for the air conditioning/heating is rather hard to see while driving, but functions well. We get about 16-18 around town, and the first time I checked it on our trip, we got 27mpg @ 75mph with the air on! I like the way it handles but it is a wee bit top heavy, but it has never been a problem. The only negative comment I have is the gas pedal; it seems sluggish, then suddenly leaps forward.

My driving experience is the SUV handles fine, the check engine light has been on since two weeks after purchase have never had time to take it in. Not a vehicle for commute the gas mileage sucks for this I go through over $100 a week in gas. It handles well in snow though I bought it for that very reason and I am thankful that works well.

I traded in a 2001 Nissan Exterra for my 2005 Santa Fe mainly for my Wife's daily driver. We both really like it rides/handles like a car. I've heard complaints of gas mileage here, but our 3.5 is averaging 21 mpg city/highway. On the highway it likes to run 80, so we let it. Highway mpg is a solid 24. For complaints: I wish the center console used better plastic. While driving, and using it as an arm rest, it creaks with any movement, plus the padded top needs more padding. I really don't like the way it accelerates from a standing stop. You crush the accelerator to get it moving, then it wants to blast off. I wish this was smoother. All around, I would purchase another

It has alot of room. I like sitting up off the ground rather then on the ground in a regular car. I will probably not go back to a regular care after having a SUV. The price was great for all the features. I probably would have spent well of $23 for all the features this has. I have been very satisfied.

This is a solid and fun car to drive. It is especially great in bad weather, heavy rain, snow, wind. It stays stable on the road with the AWD doing the work for you. It has comfortable firm seating,a good view from it's higher elevation, and a nice powerful engine. The Monsoon sound system is incredable. The 6 disc changer works effortlessly, the dash panel is easy to access and read. You can haul a lot inthe back and on top if need be. The paint, finish and detail is extra nice. You get a lot for the money. I've had no major mechanical problems in the two years I've owned the car.

Car has been reliable and meets my needs. The only problem has been the check engine has continually been going on. This has caused me to return to the dealer to have it corrected. The problem in every instance is in the gas cap overfill. The dealership has always fixed the problem and given a loaner car when needed. Another problem was with the radio. The AM reception was no good. This was their top of the line radio. They replaced it with a less expensive radio and the problem was corrected.

I love this SUV!

This has been a fantastic vehicle for a commuter driving 90+ miles five days a week. The fuel economy isn't all that great, but I feel safe and I love the ride. I drive over quite a few mountains and steep hills, it handles perfectly in all kinds of precipitation including 10" of snow covered ice. Fan tends to blow in your face or off parts of the vehicle back into your face.

Like the ride and performance. Fuel economy very dissapointing, Does not come close the the epa ratings. Have had transmission replaced. Cruise and speedometer malfuntion. Dealer was not effecient in handling the claim. Did not seem to have experience in diagnosis and repair. contantly have to fight to get fair service. For a new car it is not trouble free. It is a good thing they have 100k warranty as I may need it.

I bought the most expensive Hyundai I had higher expectations due to false advertising. Lower gas mileage than advertised I get 16 miles a gallon highway. Dealership says it's the additives in the gas that only affects Santa Fe B.S. High cost for maintenance and the car runs worse with every service they do. The transfer case was just replaced and it's still making grinding noises and the gear shift needed to be replaced as well, frozen wipers won't move even my small economy car had good wipers. I could go on but there may not be enough space here...very dissatisfied. I wish I could get my money back!

The Santa Fe is a woderful vehicle until you want to break; mainly when it's raining, snowing or you're going down a hill. It keeps on going when you want to stop. I'm surprised I haven't gotten into an accident yet (knock on wood). When I told the mechanic at Sussman, he said that it was a safety feature and I shouldn't worry about it. How can I not worry about potentially running into another car is beyond me. Other than that, the SUV rides really well. I was skeptical because of their rep. in the past but they've made a believer out of me. Hyundai is a good vehicle that's great on gas. Thanks for listening.

the vehicle is nice to drive , but the service and warranty mean nothing. i have had problems with there home office, the dealer itself and the way the handle their customers, if there is any warranty work to get done , seems they have to get hold of there service rep. and then you don't kmow when your going to here from them, you can complain all you want and bring warranty issues to thier attention and you might as well have been talking to the wall. i have had issues that have been on going and were resolved 6 mos. later-- do you call this customer service i don't. seems they are more concerned with thier bottom line, and they only seem to do whats nesc.

I love my Hyundai Santa Fe, we test drove lots of cars, but for the price and being a 4WD vehicle it fit our budget great. It is probably average on fuel, because before this I drove a Ford Explorer and it was awful (but I loved that truck also). It does have downfalls though, first the turn radius on the Santa Fe in no way compares with the Ford. Also we found out the hard way that you do not have to push in the little button on the gear shift to shift. I was driving 75 down the highway, when my daughter twisted around to get something from the back, and all of a sudden it was driving weird. I looked at the guage and it was in neutral. Scary! So just be careful. Good Luck.

I recently traded in my 2004 mitsubishi endeavor on a 2005 hyundai santa fe.I drove the santa fe home after I purchased it in the dark. The next day I was cleaning the windows on my new pre-owned santa fe and found chips in the windshield and hard water spots on all of the windows and mirrors that I could not remove even with a special hard water cleaner. In addition, the windshield looked as if it had been sand blasted when in the sunlight. The dealership tried to clean the windows and mirrors unsuccessfully and has only offered to "fill" the two chips in the windshield, not replace it.Never drive a pre-owned vehicle home in the dark!Seems to be poorly made glass!Look very closely!

I've had this car for a year now and have taken several road trips, so now believe I can really eval. the car. No problems with relability, or driving so far. Inside however is a different story. some of the controls are confusing to operate, not real comfortable on long trips, and the fold down back seats get stuck everytime I need to use them. The worst problem is the dealership and service dept. At first I thought they were going to be great, as they bent over backwards to make me happy at purchasing, but getting service or support after the fact, forget it!

I got my Santa Fe in January 06, and have been driving it since then. It is free of maintenance and very comfortable SUV. I got aaround 19-20 MPG in city driving. It is probably the best SUV you can get wity your money. It has 4 disc ABS, 6 airbags, tiptronic transmission as standard options. I got mine for 21k $ and also included 6 disc CD changer. It is a very comfortable SUV and handles much better than most of the SUVs (wider). The back is very roomy as well compae to Jeep Liberty and any ofthe SUVS at its class. If you are looking for a non-expensive 4WD, Santa Fe is definitely the best you can buy.

We were sceptical about buying a Hyundai at first, husband sold in late 80s and it was wasn't pretty at that time, HOWEVER after doing research and test driving, we are surprisingly happy with the design and the performance of our 2005 Santa Fe. For the money and the options there is NO comparison. Hyundai beats the competition hands down. The warranty and dealer incentives are the icing on the cake. Hopefully it will be a dependable vehicle and we will definately update our review. Some of the reviews are comical at best (illuminated cruise control?) that would not be noticed if everything wasn't already illuminated. Ignore the Reliability rating above-doesnt count =)

Only half the vehicle a Grand Cherokee for 3/4 the price. Comes with lots of options but they don't preform very well. The 4wd drive dosen't work well if you spin your tires. It cuts in and out and at times the pauses leave you with no power going to any wheel. The interior is roomy but components are lacking in quality. The rear seat bottems are made entirely of foam (no frame) and don't lay flat when folded down. The floor carpet and mats are econo big time. The vehicle must draw it's outside air close to the road because the exhaust flumes from other cars get sucked inside big time. Lots of AC in the winter because of using the recirculating feature. The body and doors are quality.

The dealer never informed me of the outrageous and extremely costly maintenance schedule. Didn't know I was buying a Jaguar!! Better think twice about buying!! Timing belt must be replaced at 60,000 at a cost of at least $600. If you don't replace, and something goes, you buy a new engine. If Hyundai is so confident of powertrain warranty. They should step up to plate and warranty timing belt to 100,000. Gas mileage a joke!

I have an older Mercedes E320 which is awesome, and my quality benchmark. While no Benz, my Santa Fe is a nice, reliable, comfortable vehicle. I needed a grocery, Home Depot, chauffeur the relatives, transport the dogs vehicle. This fulfills it way past my expectations. The mileage could be better, but hey! it uses Regular! The suspension is a little mushy, but that's my only complaint. While not exactly launching off the line when the light turns green, the 2.7 is more than adequate for my needs.

I've wanted a Santa Fe since they debuted. I'm a previous Hyundai owner & adore the warrenty. I never had a problem that wasn't covered by the bumper-to-bumper warranty & when it expired, the cost was pretty minimal for the add. 15k miles that I drove it. I did my research & waited until my finances allowed for a new car payment. I did all of my price negotiating via email with three different dealers. This is difficult, but I'm email savvy & was persistent/firm (but courteous) with the sales people. Using the quotes (everything in writing), I was able to negotiate $3000 below invoice. Do your research, get everything in writing, be firm & know what you want to spend (down & monthly).

I love my 2005 Santa Fe-I never knew I would save money on car insurance! I was expecting to pay more, but didn't. I love the car-like ride and as many have said, those little extras. I am disappointed in the fuel economy however, it's only a V6-not a V8. My parents have a Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and it gets roughly the same milage and it's a V8! Aside from all that, it's a wonderful mid-sized SUV with plenty of space and standard features that make the big three worry: GM, Chrylser, Ford I like it!

I got my Santa Fe just two days before having to make a road trip of over 300 miles and WOW what can I say, I was very comfortable the whole way. It got really decent gas mileage (about 26 mpg) and look out for the pick up when you hit the gas. I've rented SUV's before and some are really big and bulky with less interior room than what I have in the Santa Fe. Two thumbs up to Hyundai

I had no reluctance because I had purchased other new styles of vehicles that were new to the auto market in the 70's and although I had bad luck with them I felt like I was doing the right thing in purchasing this Santa Fe as my first New Vehicle since 1976. I had in the past 23 years since I traded my last vehicle I bought brand new in 1976 purchased used vehicles because I figured they had all the bad things happened to them already if they had new car flaws. After driving the Santa Fe for 10 weeks, I think I made a Good choice.

Really love this SUV. A little spongy on the ride, but I enjoy that type of feeling. Gas mileage really stinks, especially with today's prices going up to $3.00. Also disappointed that I have a smell in my A/C after two months of use, and side bumper scrapes too easily -- I already have several scraped areas where doors have hit the side of my car. Instead of creating a ding, the hits scratch the plastic bumper creating more of a deep scratch in the plastic.

I traded in my 2002 Crystal Blue for a 2005 Black Obsidian Santa Fe and once again I was not disappointed. I went from a wonderful 4 cylinder that once saved my life in a crash, to an upgraded 6 cylinder model that I couldn't be happier with. I don't need the oversized SUVs which are on the market and the Santa Fe fits our active lifestyle just perfectly. Our family of 4 can pack everything we need in this beauty for a week away camping or at the beach and still travel comfortably with room to spare.

I traded my Mercedes ML in for the Santa Fe with no regrets. I can't go wrong with the 10 year 100,000 mile warranty. I wish that I didn't get the 2.7L. But is still worth every penny. Everyone loves it!

This is a great car fun to drive - good on fuel economy for an SUV, but can be slow on pick up speed - very comfortable to drive and plenty of room in the back for traveling, shopping, etc. I have had no problems with the vehicle. If I could change one thing it would be the rear door it opens up instead of out and if your hands are full it can be a problem closing the door, but @ so much less $$$$ than the Toyota I came from. I am very happy w/my Santa Fe.

I have enjoyed driving the Santa Fe for nearly a year. I have taken it on trips and drive in heavy traffic. I holds up well and comfortable to ride in. It has separate cup holders so it is easy to reach your drink not the passangers. The down side so far is the back seats when folding them down you have to take off the head rest and the seats still don't lay down flat.

Just finished a 1000 mile vacation trip to northern New Mexico. The 2005 Santa Fe 2.7 GLS FWD was outstanding on the interstate as well as the twisting mountain highways near Santa Fe and Taos. Smooth ride, plenty of room for four adults and luggage, and adequate power from the 2.7 for steep grades indicates that Hyundai has a well- thought-out platform for years to come. The Santa Fe is a solid perfomer and a great value--thousands less than competitors.

I love thge warranty but after the purchase I don't have to think about it because everything works great. This vehicle is very fun to drive and has alot of get up and go with the 3.5 v6.The heated seats are a plus in the cold weather months and the leather cleans up easy when my kids make a mess. The only down side is not having power seats. That one option would make my Sante Fe perfect.

After being in a rear end collision, Our car took the brunt of the accident. My self and my daughters didnt even have stiff or sore muscles the next morning. I was sitting still at a road block, and the other car came up behind me doing at least 25-30miles per hour when she hit us. Our car had over 8 thousand dollars in damages, but its passengers were safe and sound. I would buy another Santa Fe in the future without a second thought. It has been an excellent car since we got it. thank you

Generally, I like my 2005 Santa Fe. I drive in city mostly, so, it has enough power for me. Not so good when going uphill. If I could choose again, I'd buy the 3.5L instead. Good sound quality. Excellent steering, suspension and smooth ride for normal driving. Big trunk space. Beware of dealers overcharging on fees other than the car price.

I'm 2500 miles into a cross-country trip towing 2000+ (trailer & contents combined). I'm averaging 15 mpg, which is well within my acceptable range, given the circumstances. Even while towing across some of the worst roads I have ever been on, the handling has been great, and it has enough power to keep in the traffic flow in places like Dallas & Phoenix at quitting time. Got caught in Hurricane Dennis, and the ABS/TRS was a blessing. Also caught 60 mph winds in Arizona yesterday and DIDN'T feel like I was out of control. That was a major surprise for me. I'm a 4 time Hyundai buyer. My first was an 86 Excel that had over 400,000 mi when I traded it in. Other 2 got wrecked :(

Pulling out is traffic is not my favorite thing to do with this SUV. I have had a problem with getting shocked every time I get out. Passengers have too. My Santa Fe is a pleasure to drive. The comfort equals the luxury of a touring sedan. Handling is quick and very responsive with little leaning movement. Both normal and evasive braking w/ABS, even on wet roads, is excellent. Interior standard equipment, optional on most other SUV's, is far superior. The sterio system is both powerful and pleasurable. The radio tuning in system is incredible bringing in FM stations more than 60 miles away. The five year bumper to bumper warrantee is the best of all not to leave out the ten year 100,000 miles power train warrentee which dwarfs the other top named car companies. Tires for life is another standard feature which makes your choice even easier.

Never owned a Korean vehicle before— had the same skepticism others have. Was given one at a car rental place in Phoenix this spring. I was incredibly surprised by how solid the vehicle was, the performance and the nice little extras throughout the car. Shopped Jeep, Ford and Chevy before going with the Santa Fe— the dealer also bent over backward to make me a deal. I love the stereo, the seats (even without power adjustment), car really zips around— and like I said, nice little extras (cargo net, full-size spare, cargo cover, child seat anchors, 3 DC outlets, traction control). Negatives? Funky exterior styling, a lot of lean in hard turns. Beyond that, not much.

I bought this car 3 days ago. I have driven it 270 miles already. I am on a quarter of a tank. I think that is decent. I had an Elantra before this that got 320 miles to a tank. So for the size of the vehicle not too bad. The interior is so classy. Any one who didn't know the price would think you spent a fortune on this vehicle. Seats are so very comfy. And short people don't have to sit on top of the steering wheel to see where they are going or to reach the petals. Overall I LOVE THIS VEHICLE

I really like this SUV since it has everything I wanted for a decent price. The warranty is also a fabulous plus. Cons: I have a problem with the location and noise level of the heating/AC unit. It's very loud and you have to crank the stereo up to hear it over the noise of the fans. It's also not easy to operate. My least favorite feature is the gas mileage. It's horrible. They could have done better with it.

The carbuying press always bashes Hyundai's but we have had our 2003 now for almost 3 years. It has only had one problem at 43,000 miles the oil pump pressure releif valve froze. It was replaced at no cost under the best warranty in the industry while we were given a loaner car. The V-6 has more than adequate power for it's class and delivers great gas mileage for it's size. we average 24mpg in town and 29- 31 on the highway with the standard automatic transmission. The Quality has been so good in fact that I used Hyundai's $2000 owner loyalty rebate towards the purchase of my Elantra. The Santa fe has all of the features that would cost you 4-6 thousand more dollars on a RAV-4 or CRV

I used to drive a company car, after 10 yrs of "worry free" driving, I looked at every possibility out there. Test drove everything from Scion a's to Escape's, RAV4's. I knew I needed something to drive but had no idea what. I started paying attention to the cars in the road, and kept seeing Hyundais, Elantras; Santa Fe's, so I decided to check them out. With a limited budget I had to get the most I could with the money I had. I finally decided on a 1yr old Santa Fe with 10K miles. The price was definitely fair, and ever since I have enjoyed this car more than any of the other free cars I've ever driven. Whenever something has to be fixed, the warranty picks it up, and I am left very happy.

I went through 1/2 a year, over 100 dealers, over 20 brands of car makers. Finally found Hyundai is the one. I am a Toyota fan and still am, but cannot believe that I will buy a Hyundai. Great buy for this Santa Fe. Everything is good, went through over 500 car reviews and checks, good price and unbeatable warranties. NO REGRETS! Hyundai that owns Kia is going up ladder to beat out the Japanese makers and other global players, see the new Sonata 2006. Can't say more for the global world car makers, especially the Chinese cars are coming to America's market after the win in Asia.

This is a followup to the original review done shortly after purchase. I continue to like the peppy engine and comfort, but a major weakness has been the construction, I have never owned a vehicle that dents so easy, sheet metal as soft as soup cans. The vehicle is garaged, does not go to work with me, and is parked away from other cars. I have paid out over $200 in dent removal, with my next move to see the Hyundai rep. It has been very disappointing - and only has 3000 miles!

I have had my 2004 Santa Fe for 8 months now. I love it. I have plenty of room for my family of 4. It is great for traveling and shopping. Going through drive through restrants is a breeze. So is loading and unloading groceries from the back. We just got back from a trip to the Smokie Mountains. My husband commented that it was a joy to drive. Smooth handling like a car. The only draw back is when going through parking lots, tourists didn't hear the engine and we had to wait for them to get out of our way.

Less than 12,000 miles and the valves are rattling unless I run premium gasoline. Gas mileage is about what they say as long as I run premium. Otherwise, gas mileage is about 25% less than they claim. Interior rattles coming from who knows where, but very irritating. We bought this vehicle to replace a 4 wheel drive pickup. It has done that plus has given much more comfort. It is such a pleasure to drive. The fuel ecomony could be better, but it is getting at least what is stated on the sticker. It would be nice if the rear leather seats would also be heated. Overall we a very well pleased with this vehicle.

I enjoy my Santa Fe very much. The 3.5 engine has plenty of zip and the car handles very well. Biggest drawback is getting into car. The natural tendancy is to lean forward to clear the door with your head but the overly raked windshield makes this manuever ill-advised. The rear seats not only fold down (although not 100% flat), they also recline which make them much more comortable than the Subaru Forester which I considered. Standard safety features are outstanding such as side air bags & reinforced doors,ABS 4 wheel disc brakes, heated power mirrors. My Santa Fe came standard with AC, powerful CD/Cassette, AM/FM, Cruise, power everything except seats, remote entry w/alarm & much more

horrid accelarator...NO GAS MILEAGE!!!! does not get 17 city...must read the very fine print on the window sticker to see that it will actually get 11 to 13miles per gallon, and that was only pointed out to us by the service dept when we took it in for adjustments. passenger air bag is all but impossible to activate. must be sitting in exactly correct position to even get it turned on and, so far, we have only been able to activate it 3 times. if in a crash, it would be useless....when driving at low speeds and trying to maintain a constant speed, the ride is jerky and very distracting.

I didn't want the Santa-Fe at first, I was looking for a reasonable suv and I wasn't sold on the Santa-Fe. Then, I drove one and I was sold! I suggest the 6 cylinder model and a sunroof. I love the ride, the cd changer and Monsoon sound system. The Sanfa-Fe has everything except the price. People that have ridden to work with me are now interested. One, who owns a Lexus SUV likes my Santa-Fe LX as much as his Lexus. As a matter of fact, When my friend's lease is up, he is trading for an LX too. He said he was tired of paying so much for the Lexus in lease and gas when the Hyundai LX I have does better for less! I agree ... for me ... this one is a "Keeper!"

The accelarator is a nightmare...there is a lag time between touching the pedal and the movement of the car. It is VERY difficult to hold at a constant speed if you are driving under 30 miles per hour. The ride is so distracting that it is hard to enjoy any other aspect of the car. The passenger side air bag is almost impossible to activate when someone sits in the seat. In a crash, it would be useless.

I live in NY. Fearing my husband's safety after 9-11, we bought this vehicle (a 2002)so he could commute the 120 miles each day to NYC. Driving the Brooklyn Queens Expressway and the Long Island Expressway everyday is test enough for any cars reliablity. With 100,007 miles (and going) we have never had one problem with this vehicle, not even a flat tire. We just change the oil every 3000 miles. It has all the extra features to keep you comfortable on a long commute. It is a great weekend get away car. You can fit most anything in the back. Its easy to park tight spaces and works well on our shopping trips in lower Manhattan. I recommend this car to everyone. I am planning to buy a new one.

I like the Santa Fe 2.7L V6 very much. It is relatively quiet and handles well on curves, and the mileage I get is 20-22 around town and 26-28 on the highway. No long trips as yet. The steering is a little too responsive if you take your eyes off the road to adjust the AC or heating, or radio.

Great takeoff, lots of power. Excellent sound system. The standard features would be worth the price without the warranty; the smart safety features would cost hundreds extra on any other car. The Santa Fe comes with a first aid kit, storage area under the carpet of the cargo area and a cargo net to secure just about anything in the rear cargo area. I add the cargo mat (cost extra) and can transport anything without it shifting of rolling around during sharp turns. The front passenger seats air bag only turns on when someone sits in it. The comfort control system tells you the outside temp and can be set to auto, so that each time you drive it is the exact temperature you want.

It has a well designed interior with fold down seats for more cargo area when needed. Gives you a decent ride, even when fully loaded. Roof racks are a plus and comes with the best warranty available. And it is equipped where others are options. I'm satisfied with mine.

I loved the body styling compared to the box like appearance of other SUVs in its class. The interior is pretty comfy. The leather seats are not very soft but the give good support. I am disappointed that the passenger seat does not heat up as represented. The driver seat nicely heats and warms your lower back. Steering is tight. The gas pedal is too touchy. Barely pressing the pedal and it jumps into action full speed ahead! It is difficult to get used to and a bit annoying. Today I loaded a tall size hot water tank into it. Dropped the back seat and pushed the front seat forward and in it went with room to spare. Smiles all around! My friends find the back seat very comfortable.

We test drove a lot of small, mid SUVs. Had a Jeep Liberty nearly blow up on the road from a gas leak, loved the RAV-4 and CR-V. Finally went to Vermont to see the Santa Fe; wow this car beat all the others on the first drive. Has everything you want, front wheel drive, with all wheel drive sending power to rear wheels when needed, V6 to tow our boat, great styling and interior, KILLER stereo, THIS VEHICLE ROCKS. It has the best feature I've ever seen on an SUV, a shiftronic system to allow down or upshifting at any time (such as on a hill pulling a boat). Bought the car on the first test drive and I've never bought before without at least two trip to the dealer to haggle over price.

For the money, you probably can't go too far wrong here, but overall this is probably just an average SUV for its class. The exterior styling is a bit radical for some tastes, but it does stand out well in a crowd, and doesn't have that "shoebox on wheels" look most SUVs have. The handling on the 4WD model is a bit mushy, and the fuel economy isnt great for its size, but it does have enough zip when you need it. I've found the seats less than totally comfortable on long trips, but otherwise the interior is decent. The reliability has been good so far, and the warranty is unbeatable. Overall, while not outstanding or overly impressive in any one area, probably still a great bargain for the money

The car was presented at the dealership in flawless shape (except for a burnt out map light bulb). I have purchased new Toyotas and Hondas over the years and the fit and finish on my Santa Fe is just as good and the price can't compare. Thousands cheaper than the comparable Japanese models and a bit more stylish by my taste. The 3.5 liter engine has more than enough power and the ride is firm and comfortable. This car is the best in its size class.

I got more for my money than someone buying the Honda CRV. Mine came with a V6, CRV does not, mine is 540 lbs heavier than the CRV which gives it a better ride. Mine has a 3.5 L engine, CRV is about a 2.4 L engine. Plus I got the roof racks (side rails) included. CRV it's an extra. I drove a new CRV and I like the feel of Santa FE much better. An all around sturdier car than the CRV, in my opinion.

Have owned this Santa Fe for 3 months. Surprisingly pleased with the performance and gas mileage. Currently getting 31.88 mpg with mostly "around town" driving...only 3 trips over an hour in duration. Vehicle has lots of get-up-and-go due no doubt to a very well geared 5 speed manual transmission.Exterior style and ergonomics of interior very pleasing. Feels very solid and tight on the road. Excellent value for the money. Good overall quality and fun to drive. Many extras that would cost more on competitive models, plus you cannot beat the warranty and free roadside assistance.

Excellent Value, Car like Ride..........

I am so happy with my new Santa Fe I had to come on-line and write a review. It has everything I wanted and more, excellent value and warranty and the sales experience were quick and painless. My salesperson Bobby explained everything and showed me all the features and benifits of buying a quality Suv. Most important Hyundai has done so much to improve the quality of their cars and with their warranty I have no worries.

The styling is stand out, very unique!I love the all wheel drive. Power is adequate, but, It could use a little more. I know a larger V-6 is available, but, I'm not willing to get less mileage.

Except for fuel economy the Hyundai Santa Fe is a best buy. I've only driven it a bit over 1,000 miles but that's enough to know that this a fine handling SUV that, fully equipped, is as well appointed and comfortable as the BMW I owned previously. The fuel economy isn't as advertised however. The literature promises 16/17 in town and 22/23 on the highway. Sorry to say that is way off reality. I'm getting more like 16. The dealer is ready to check it for necessary adjustments, so hopefully that will improve the situation. If so, I'll be a Hyundai fan for life.

I did not think I could ever afford to buy such a nice SUV. It is like that big Toyota with lots of room. I tried out the Toyota, and was overwhelmed with the price of it. Once I got in the Hyundai, I was hooked. It is nice. It is so comfortable. Even the back seats are so huge that anybody riding back there is very happy. I rode in the back of the Toyota and was so squeezed and the plastic parts inside looked so cheesy and the big sticker price turned me off...oh, and there was very little warranty on the Toyota. So I got the Hyundai and I have been happy every since. BEST DECISION EVER.

I have been very happy with performance of the car and have to say they have been extremely helpful in the service center of Hyundai. The 5 year bumper to bumper is amazing. The only real issue is the gas mileage - with heat and AWD kicking in sometimes (winter time), I am getting around 10-12 miles/gallon (stop and go on the roads), which is horrible.

I have always been a Hyundai customer. I bought my first one when I turned 18 and have been a customer ever since. I am more than impressed with the styling and performance of the Santa Fe. I have told everyone I know what a great value this car is. I love it!!!

Only one problem with this vehicle - the fuel mileage is really bad compared with the advertised mileage. I'm getting worse mileage than my wife, who drives a much heavier, much larger engined car. My mileage is about 35% worse than the advertised mileage. Otherwise, it's great fun to drive, lots of room in the back for my 90 lb. dog, and very comfortable to drive and ride in.

I never thought we would consider buying a Hyundai product. On the way to look at Toyotas we test drove a loaded 2005. Good ride, good standard equipment. good build quality and best warranty as well as saving thousands over the competition. Best Buy!

This is the second Hyundai I have purchased. The quality and reliability of this vehicle makes you wonder what the other car companies are doing with all the extra money they charge you fora similiarly equipped vehicle. The week after I bought this car my parents were so impressed they had me buy them a Sonata over the internet, "sight unseen." They can't believe the car they got for the money.

I would reccomend buying this SUV to anyone looking for a worthwhile SUV at a very reasonable price. I purchased the same model in June of '03 and I liked it so much that I traded mine in for a newer model. They handle great, look great and get good gas mileage!

Have had our Santa Fe for three months. Have taken two trips from Ohio to New Jersey and back. Ride is every bit as comfortable as our Grand Marquis. Cruised Interstate 80 across Pa. at 75 mph and it handled quite well. Mileage was about 26 mpg as advertised.

Since I bougth this Santa Fe, always I'm finding new features and excellent things of my car. The last one was a lot of covered space under the back carpet. I drove from Fort Lauderdale, FL (33312) to Chandler, AZ (85248) with a trailer on the hitch and the ride was smooth, I didn't feel back pain. The only bad thing is stopping every 230 miles to refuel.
