I bought this car new for $10,500.00. I drove it for 8 years and then passed it to my daughter for school. It currently has 216,000 miles and going strong. Total for repairs, not including maintenance, about $1,000.00! It is on it's third set of brake pads and still the original rotors. It's also on it's third set of tires which were changed at 210,000 miles. Handling is great, but the engine had always strained going up steep hills. Without a doubt this is the best car I've I've ever owned!

Best $1200 I've spent yet

With my tax refund this year, I wanted to buy a cheap car that is good on gas. I'd never really looked into a Hyundai before but, In my experience, any import is better than a Domestic car. I found my elantra on craigslist. Picked it up with 170k miles after a short test drive and took it to the shop. It needed 2 wheel bearings and a tie rod. I put an aftermarket radio in ($45 Investment) and I couldn't be happier with it. It's a little rusty but where I live, anything older than 6-7 years is going to be. I average 31 MPG and the engine and tranny still respond quickly. I don't worry that it won't start or will die on me any time soon. I've put about 10k miles on it since I've bought it and I'm so impressed I think my next family vehicle will be a Hyundai. I'm 6'5" and I fit just fine in the car even with my kids in the back. granted they're both under 10 but, for now I can't complain. My only complaint is the cup holders are too close together. If you're thinking of getting one, go for it. These things are cheap and should last you quite a while unless the previous owner just did no maintenance to it (which should be obvious).

Awesome road warrior

Bought this car in 2012 with 30,000 miles, now it just passed the 129,000 mark. Only minor maintanance issues. It is the perfect car for long road commutes for work. Great car.

Last summer I was in the market for a 4,500 dollar car and I spent an hour or two a day on this website. I read the reviews on an '05 elantra because one was for sale close by- and they were all so positive- discussing how solid the engine is, how safe they feel in an accident etc. I purchased the car for 3,400 which was down from 3,800 because the family was leaving for Hawaii the next day. It had 105k miles and now has 120k miles. I was hit by a truck swinging back while I was parked- and the car didn't even dent. The car has made 2- thousand mile trips this last year and survived a Tahoe winter. It has been hearty, reliable and much more than I could have asked for in my price range. I receive a lot of compliments on it because it is so cute. Some people think I drive a Saab. I have had put $1,200 in repairs into the car- a new radiator and clutch about 5 months after buying it- those have been the only problems and it was very good about indicators and easy for mechanics to work on.

An extremely reliable utilitarian vehicle.

I've owned seven little old cars in the past fourteen years, many much older than this one, and this one has given me the most trouble bar none. As you probably suspected, the Toyotas and Hondas behaved perfectly. Now I'm not gonna say it is all the car's fault, because I'm certain it's at least partially the fact that the previous owners were idiots (reversed the radiator hoses, made sure the PCV valve would never come out with the application of hardening mud). Plus, you have to consider, if idiots are buying Hyundais... yeah, that was kinda mean. But beware! Every thing I do to it, every fix, is like going down the rabbit hole, even though this car is relatively easy to work on. Let me start from the beginning. I bought the car only 4k miles ago, and with blown struts and cracked windshield and a little hitch in its shifting--I knew about all that. One week after the purchase, driving down the highway, radiator blew. So, tow bill. New radiator, and it was still overheating. This is when we realized the hoses were reversed. New thermostat, new belts while we're at it. Two week long saga of getting the belts on juuuuuust right to get one or the other or all of them to stop squealing. Pro tip: tighten the alternator belt. Before I forget, let me mention that now, one of the pulleys is squeaking, will probably need to replace THAT soon. One of the back drum brakes was squeaking, tried to get that off to fix... of course it's well and truly stuck, /fail. I did some research on the internet about the shifting, found a lot of people had had success with changing the transmission speed sensors. Bought them on ebay, installed, and... I think it's shifting somewhat better. It doesn't do the odd shifting thing anymore... mostly. It's still not perfect, and it's driving me a little insane. I think it's manuals from here on out for me. But anyway, back to the car. Tried to change the PCV valve, unscrewed it from the valve cover... and the whole effing brass fitting came out of the valve cover with it, because apparently, someone'd glued it in. Jammed it back in, PCV valve unchanged. Option at this point: Get really, really creative getting the PCV valve out, or new valve cover, $250. The engine was filthy, decided I was going to wash it before working on it. Wound up flooding one of the spark plugs. Couple-day saga of changing spark plugs (which were due anyway, so whatever), Heet, wires. Apparently I'd fried the wire, too. Couple days after that, headlights went out. Both of them, at the same time. Odd, yes? Anyway. There's more, I know there's more, but I'm drawing a blank right at this second, so how about the good: The seats are comfortable, the sunroof still works and doesn't leak, aftermarket stereo plays Pandora. Oh! And I'm beginning to suspect parts are cheap, cuz the junkyard quoted me $550 for a new (100k miles) engine. Peeves: Rear foot space is sparing, little spots of rust starting on body. UPDATE, now 20k miles into ownership, 127k on odometer: I'm the idiot, the PCV valve comes with the valve cover on this car, as in, it's permanently attached. If I overlook the shifting hitch, the car's been good to me. It's a smooth ride with very peppy acceleration, and I would buy another. I love driving the car, and when the choice came to keep or sell, I kept it. Also, I have the GLS sedan, not a GT hatchback, not sure where Edmunds got that idea.

Never AGAIN!!!!

I bought my car in 2005 (brand new) only had about 19 miles on it, and i must say that i regret not listening to my grandmother when she said "go to the honda dealership" shortly after 3 years of purchasing this car it has been giving me issues. check engine has been repeatedly coming on for the same issue which pertains to a sensor(s)!!! and currently its the check engine is still coming on for the SaME ISSUE!!!!!! apparently my car is too rich in fuel!!!! I wanted to pass this car on to my sister, but will not due to the fact that it will take money with the amount of repairs that will have to be done by the car.. This was my first car and I haven't been happy at all!!!!!!! and any friends who ask about hyundai's I immediately tell them no!!! do not waste your money!!!!! because you won't have none after the amount of repairs you have put into constantly fixing the car! Elantra's are for elderly folks who only travel around town. Hyundai has my complaint on file and I will continue to call with any additions to that complaint!

Bought with 128k miles on it. Changed the battery and windshield wipers 'cause they were old, that's it. After 8 months and 10k have had absolutely no problems.I get 28 mpg combined. The exterior is pretty cool comparing to other cars with same age imo, the interior of course is not good looking, in high speeds it shakes sometimes, the steering wheel shakes a little most of the time, but for the money I paid and the reliability I got, I can overlook those.

I have had this car since it was new. I had to skip maintenance at times due to have a very small budget. Something I never recommend for any car if can be avoided, however this car has forgiven every time I have done it. I used to drive 1000 miles a week, and not once have I had to worry if I would get to where I needed to. I now have 174k miles on it and still get 29 mpg combined highway city driving. The only problem I have had is breaks...my fault...and had to rebuild top of engine due to my mistake with timing belt...again my fault. I have had a badly charging battery start in cold weather. I will keep this car until the tires fall off compared to a car payment.

I bought my car about a year ago with 114,000 miles on it. It drove like new. I never had a problem with it. While driving on the highway a deer jumped right out in front of me. I ended up hitting it. At 55 mph the car took the brunt of the impact. It felt as though I had hit a speed bump instead of a 6 point deer. When I got out of the car, and was able to see the damage done to it, I was amazed that no one was hurt. My beautiful car was totaled, but my family and I walked away without a scratch. I am now loyal Hyundai consumer.

i bought a 2005 elantra gt in october 2010 and i absolutely fell in love with it! i loved the whole package and the car was very affordable and great on gas! November 2010, 4 weeks after i purchased the car, i was in a bad car accident at speeds of 55 mph and i t-boned someone who turned in front of my car. I somehow managed to walk away from the accident without a single scratch on me. I would love to own this car again! and also the car i purchased was a reconstructed title so it was already in a car accident and managed to keep me alive. and i also found out i was pregnant during the crash too and baby survived also! I want another one so bad now that i have my daughter!

1st hyundai purchased. Such a good car ended up buying two more hyundais 09 and 11 elantra! Bought this car after it was leased in Dec 05. Have this car over 5 years and never have been disappointed. Only service needed Made (Jul 04)is: Standard oil changes, replaced front brakes, first set of tires @ 30k and a new battery @30k The car has never broke down on us has been very reliable. MPG is good not great very heavy car for the size. We can get 24mpg out of it combined. Tons of features for a low price. For a economy car it is very spunky and has nice handling smooth on the road even rough roads. Pros: Great value, reliable Cons: AM Radio reception poor Awesome Car!

I bought this car new when I could not find a cheap, reliable commuter on the used market and have been 100% pleased with my purchase. Comfortable on long drives as well as around town. Only nonscheduled maintenance has been for O2 sensor and noisy visors. Both were fixed with no problems by the dealership. This is a great first car for those looking for one or a great commuter.

Bought this amidst much warning from all friends and ignorant people who tend to be scared about buying anything other than a Toyota or a Honda from the used cars. Reason why I bought this was how Elantras offered the same features and higher power than a corolla or a civic at a much lower price. After having driven this for more than 16,000 miles, I am very pleased with this car. I have not had any bad experiences and the maintenance has only been preventive maintenance like transmission oil change, brake rotor change etc.

I bought this car "new" (it was a demo car with 160,00 KM on it) in 2005. Currently, it's traveled 300,000 KM (just over 200,000 miles) with only maintenance service so far. I had to service the clutch at 250,000 km - and have had the breaks done 2x (unfortunately full replacement due to the salted roads in Canada). As far as reliability goes it's been an awesome car for me, though it's not luxurious, it does get the job done!

I love our 2005 Hyundai. We bought it because it was the best bang for the buck and we've had 0 problems with it even after owning it for 3 years now. The only thing I've done with the car is get the brake pads fixed. I've had to buy a new battery, but that's about it. I could not be happier with the car. It is true that the door handles and some other of the interior knobs might feel cheap but that's not important to me. They don't break, it's just I've read that things like that might make a difference for some people.

This car is very uncomfortable. I bought car new and tires were bad from the start. Brought the car back to dealer several times to get different tires, and never got anywhere. Had to buy new tires myself. Then 2 sensors went out at 30,000 miles and had to go back twice. Back hatchback door won't close properly and have to spray wd-40 on that to get to close. Now brakes and rotors are totally warped and that isn't covered. The 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty is a joke. They find ways to tell you that it is "regular maintenance" so you have to pay. Getting it home tonight and putting a for sale sign in it....Very unhappy with car. Runs like crap and air is gone. 45,000 miles on it now.

I purchased my Elantra new in Nov of 05. I needed a new car after the electrical system in my 99 Jetta stopped working(very pricey repair) I have had absolutely 0 problems with this car. I have performed routine maintenance on the car, oil changes etc. New tires at 60,000 miles. I have been impressed with the peppy engine and love the gas mileage, I average 36 to 38mpg highway. I commute a lot to work and school. I do not like the fact the engine revs at higher rpms when shifting gears with the 5 speed manual transmission. Sheetmetal dents easily and paint has worn off the hubcaps. Interior has held up nicely, had to install new radio and upgraded the speakers. Wish I had the sunroof

I didnt ask why and only made my purchas sweeter. Im a strong at the table when dealing with salemaen and they hate me for it. 88000 AND NO PROBLEMS, NO RATTLES, 28 MPG, NOT GREAT BUT I DRIVE VERY HARD. My car is a 5 speed and I tow a jet ski and somtimes a trailor for yard work and still get 28 mpg every time out. The motor is a 130hp and beats most others in its class. The is of good quality and im an old motor head and know cars. Safety and performance and reliable as Honda. Hyundai I will be back after getting 200000. I have no doubt !

We bought the Elantra used with about 22,000 in the summer of 06 - it had previous been a rental car (Hertz?. The cars has performed flawlessly until it blew a head gasket at 68,340 miles. Since I was the second owner - the warranty expired at 60,000 miles. I asked Hyundai America to at least partially compensate me for the repair since I think it was a fluke and they just blew me off. Perhaps it was the last one off the assembly in on a Friday afternoon. The gas mileage has always been a bit lower than I expected - less than bothe the Corollas and Civics that I have owned. I am guardedly optimistic about the car since everyone else that has them say they are great.

I have owned my 2005 Hyundai Elantra for 3 and one half years. It will be paid off in 5 months. At the 36,000 mile mark 2 weeks ago, the clutch went. I have had 5 other standard transmission vehicles which have had between 70,000 - 140,000 miles without ever having to replace the clutch. This clutch cost me $1,000 to replace and will probably cause me to look elsewhere for my next vehicle. It makes me wonder whether Hyundai spent enough time and money on this aspect of the Elantra and whether other owners have had this problem as well.

It has a quieter and smoother ride than the '05 Corolla, and more power than a '05 Civic. It's nice and wide inside, with good head room. After 4 years it's still solid and tight.

I bought a brand new 2005 elantra in 2005 for 2 reasons: good price and good warranty. Since then i have put 123K miles on it, changed the oil every 10K or so, and bye and large have beat it up. It hasn't flinched. At about 120K the brake pads wore out so i replaced them and decided to change my belts at the same time. Other than that no other work has been needed. I have gotten more than i ever expected out of it. Throw in the fact the excellent gas mileage makes that IRS per mile deduction go real far, and I'm a satisfied customer.

This was my first car, and I love it! It came with tinted windows, a sunroof, and leather seats. It is black, and very sleek looking. It looks like it costs way more than it actually is. Great gas mileage. My friends are jealous that I have such a great car. Very reliable. I also love the fact that if I leave my keys in the ignition, and I open the door and try to lock it, it automatically unlocks itself so that I never leave my keys in the car. Overall a very nice car for a very nice price.

I purchased this car within an hour of my test drive and haven't had a single regret so far. I just returned from a weekend trip to another state and have already put over 12oo miles on the car. I would rather drive this than my wife's Camry XLE. I am 6 ft and weigh 280 but the comfort and driveability are exceptional. Very smooth, not rough, tight steering, no power surge acceleration with cruise control even up steep hills. I have averaged 31-32 MPG. I am very pleased with this car and the service I received from the dealer who went the extra step and got my 4 points off my initial interest rate. I will look to Hyundai first for my next car.

I've had this car for 3 years, bought it new. Have had many problems with seat back falling off, its been replaced five times and still not fixed (first happened three months after I got the car, on my second coolant leak, cylinder in clutch needed replaced, glove compartment handle fell off, cloth came off the center console, power mirror switch replaced twice, and seat frame has been replaced three times. I would not recommend buying any Hyundai. I have been going through trouble trying to get my whole seat replaced with someone from the Hyundai central office.

Bought new in 2005 equipped with abs/tcs and 5m. 70,000 miles at this time with no Major problems. Been twice in small accidents, repaired fast and inexpensive. Stereo and speakers not good enough for me, but not really bad. We drive the car mostly in suburban areas in upstate NY averaging 26-29 mpg, 32-38 mpg highways, depending on a drivestyle. Traction control combined with winter tires makes car driveable even during big snowstorms, no problems with snow so far. Also very good for long trips, seats are comfortable, driver`s with lumbar support, armrest in good position, roomy in back seats. Almost no rattles, over 3000 rpm you can hear the engine more, aerodynamic noise is low, good for money

Build quality is pretty good, some refinements missing. Example, light behind panel next to shift lever is BRIGHT at night and actually catches my eye and annoys. Won't dim with the dimmer knob like the rest of dash. Heater goes cold when idling at lights. Downshifts a little too easy, but overall good automatic. Good factory sound system. Seats okay, a little cardboardy. For price though can't really beat.

Thank goodness for the warranty. I bought this car used with very low miles and a good service history. I have a brake problem that can't seem to be solved. On my 5th master cylinder and still have mush brake pedal. (Maybe that's not the problem guys!!) I've also had to have the rack & pinion replaced and the noise it was making prior to replacement is back. All of this with less than 35k miles. I do not abuse this car and it should not be having these issues. I will say that the dealerships have been good about doing the repairs. I see that it's on the recommended used cars list. I guess I just got a bad one but NEVER AGAIN!

I bought my Hyundai Elantra in march 2005 and I was totally satisfied with it! This car has a great look, does not consume a lot of gas and has enough power to shift any slow vehicle on any road. Also, this car really has a lot of space (can make 5 persons very comfortable, including 4 men over 6'0). But... Bad surprises appeared during the winter 2008/2009: My clutch began to slip more and more. I drive a manual car since I am 16 (12 years from now) and I never had troubles with clutches. And have always been gentle with my Elantra. Now, after 80000 km (50000 miles), my clutch is done, and I have to prove my dealership I did not beat my car:

After totaling 2 Toyotas I wanted an car that looked, and functioned as well, but cost less. My Hyundai GT was it. The only problem I found were the tires that came with it they did not last a full year. It handles wonderful and has great get up for a small car. There is also plenty of room in the trunk for all my groceries. City gas mileage is approx. 22-24 miles per gallon. Of course my dealership's service dept is wonderful to me, just as they were with the two Toyotas I bought. My neighbors were so impressed, two of them bought Hyundais. That must say something about not only the car but the dealership.

On October 14, 2008 We hit a deer with the car and then also hit a cement culvert before driving into the ditch. The car was a complete write off. The air bag never deployed and the appearance of the vehicle was of minimal damage. Though there was a twist to the frame from the front right impact, and cracking to interior rear door panel (nothing noted damage wise on the outside of this same door). It concerns me that a crash that was enough to bend the frame would not deploy an air bag. I have since replaced this vehicle but did not repurchase another Hyundai.

My Chevy s10 pickup died without warning and I needed a car in a hurry and for little money. I wanted a new car but had used car money. I found the Elantra, researched it and made the purchase. I never had any problems in 70K+ miles; the only things I did were brakes (one set of pads) and tires. For the price you get a good ride, some luxury and very cheap to drive (fuel and maintenance).

I get 34 miles per gallon hmy and about 29 in city. It is quiet, smooth, comfortable, and has the space I have needed for moving things around, shopping etc. (I was able to fit my dishwasher at one point as well as a full sized treadmill in box). I have 47K miles with the GLS five- speed manual transmission hatchback, and I haven't had any problem with the clutch or engine. Both have been maintained on a regular basis, usually a few hundred miles over every 3000. However, I did have to get the rear brakes replaced at 30K. But this because I was a little abusive with the parking brake while driving. Immaturity I guess. Everything else has been great, but the tape deck needed to be replaced with a more digital deck because of an electrical short at 45K miles. Overall, you gotta be realistic that this isn't going to drive like any type of high end roadster, however I have been impressed with the handling and gas mileage 28-35 usually.

My Elantra is one of the best cars I have ever owned at any price. It is comfortable for long trips, gets excellent fuel economy, feels solid, and is pretty reliable. This is one of the few cars I have owned that shines for long distance driving comfort. The car has quality materials except for the paint on the wheels. The wheels showed surface rust after less than two years and had to be repainted. I also had to have the exhaust "down" pipe replaced twice under warranty. It starts fo leak and gets noisy. Otherwise, no problems or complaints. My car is approaching 50000 miles and I still love it. Fuel economy is 34-40 mpg.

Still a satisfied Hyundai Elantra customer after 3 years and 22,500 miles. This car compares with Honda Civic for reliability, drive, and economy. Good looking grill and body, finish has held up like new. I live in arctic Michigan and this car has never skidded off the road during the worst sleet and hail storms. FWD holds the road if you drive sensibly during snowstorms. With high gas prices I definitely appreciate the Great fuel economy. Car came loaded and included the moonroof, and boasts the most comfortable front seats I ever experienced in a foreign car (4 Toyotas). Front bucket seats adjust at least 5 ways. The HB excels in visibility. Never had any mechanical problem.

For the money it is a decent car. Currently has 43K Miles and like so many others have reported the clutch went out and is not covered under warranty ($1,200 repair) it also has problems with the head lights going going bad. The dealer also said the radiator clamps were leaking at 43K and the belts need to be replaced. I bought this for my daughter and I drive a 1998 Ford F150 with 125K and have never had to do antything other than change the oil, brakes, battery & tires. It surprises me that I am facing so many costly repairs in just 3 years with the Hyundai Elentra.

Bought the car for a daily commuter w/ some road trips in mind as well. I've been pretty pleased with the car, but it is in the shop right now at 42,000 miles to get the rear brakes replaced. Seems way too early, especially since I have the manual and use my brakes sparingly. Dealer seemed mystified as to why only 1 brake pad was worn badly... Tires were completely bald by about 32,000 miles. Clutch is pretty pathetic too, definately not a sport- machine. Sloppy gearbox sometimes leads to a gear grinding here and there (roomate has the same problem with his Accent). Probably going to be my first and last Hyundai, I'd rather pay a little more for better quality.

I bought my car new in October 2004. The only repair that it has needed was when my driver side window rubber folded over and the window didn't operated properly. That repair was covered under warranty. This car is economical, easy to park, and handles well. A plus is the leather is holding up. The moon roof slide and tilt are nice to use on a evening drive. I would recommend buying this car used because most 05's will still be under the manufacturers warranty.

This is my second Elantra. My first was a 2001. I didn't intend to buy a car when I went on the lot, but the value and improvements in the interior got me. I did have some trouble with the gas mileage at first, but switched from ethanol to regular unleaded and my mpg has increased to approx. 28 in town, and 34 on highway. I have had quite a few headlights go out, which was also a problem with my 2001. Solution seems to be to replace both at the same time. Minor work has been done..mostly cosmetic rather than repairs.

We purchased this car new a little over 2 years ago and haven't regretted the purchase yet! My husband drives a lot of miles for his job, and the gas mileage/price is what attracted us to this car. It handles nicely and has the right amount of get-up-and-go for highway and interstate driving. We were also attracted to the safety features. We haven't had to do any service on the car other than routine maintenance, but we have had to have the little clips that hold the floor mats down replaced a few times on the driver's side - they seem to break off easily. This car is surprisingly roomy and comfortable.

The biggest problem I had with the car is the handling is slow, turns are wide, and curves you have to take slowly, mostly below the speed limit. Also the care dents very easily if you put your hand on the hood of the car and press down the metal will bend with your hand. You can have all the safety airbags in the world, but the car is made out of tin. The plus side of this car is it is great on gas I wouldn't have to fill my tank for over 2 weeks at a time.

I had the car for 1 year and still going strong. I was driving 37 miles one way to work and I wasn’t going to deal with the Kia Sorento’s gas usage. So, I started looking for a compact car to save gas money. I started looking at Honda, Toyota and other import brand. After my research I decided to buy the Elantra due to price. I like the car so far, no problem what so ever. It has enough horse power to do what I need and the gas usage is great. I get 26-27 city and 30-33 freeway and mine is a automatic GLS.

Only had a couple of issues first being wiper blade had hardened and they replaced that free saying " Ya sun exposure tends to do that when blades aren't used on the lots. Sorry about that." Second was a cluth slip around 8k but it did it only once and the dealer shop couldnt find any issues. I love the space and the decent performance from the best engine in the small car class. Downside is sacrafised fuel economy. But its alot better than previous cars ive driven. I do have my own plans for the car later in life.

With 10 months of ownership/23,000 on the odometer (yes, it's quite a commute), car has done everything we've expected. Avg'ing 35 mpg on the highway. Not shabby. Sufficient get up and go for merging/hwy passing. Outside of oil changes and the suggested 15k "checkup", car has not seen the dealership for anything other than the passenger seat recall (15 minute visit for recalibration). IOW, initial quality has been exceptional. Originally was crossing my fingers on this Korean product and hoping for the best (Had my doubts but the discounted pricing in comparison to the Japanese products reflected this) but Hyundai has dispelled these misgivings. Highly suggest car if "value" is high on list.

After 3 months of highway driving, there was a very noticeable vibration in the steering wheel at speeds greater than 100 Km/hr. The rack & pinion was replaced free of charge, but I was charged for an alignment. Two weeks later, the vibration was back. This time I was charged for a wheel re-balancing. The CD player was repaired three times in a year. The tires were bald after 40,000 Km. There is excessive brake and wind noise. The driver's front headlight bulb has been repalced twice in 40,000 km (I seldom drive at night, so only the running lights are on).

I have mostly enjoyed my Elantra GT (we have another GT, and '03 model). I live in the mountains of West Virginia, and do a lot of driving due to working 45 miles away. My GT is fun to drive on the twisty roads, and returns excellent gas mileage. The stereo works great and keeps me entertained enroute. My only complaint is that I have some vibration on braking, due to warped brake rotors. I am surprised at this, with only 12,000+ miles.

My husband and I both have a 2005 Elantra. They are both great cars for the money! The features are superb and the ride is fantastic. Our cars are roomier than a VW Jetta and ride better too! Great pick up for a 4 cylinder; I can keep up with the best of them! The body style is classy and the vehicle has a solid feel that can't be beat. One of the best values on the market with the warranty! LOVE it!

I have been driving this car for 8 months or so and it has lived up to all my expectations. I skipped the sunroof and abs but couldn't be happier. I only have roughly 6000 miles on it (because I work and live at a college) but I take it on road trips home (3 hours one way) and it easily cruises at 80mph on the highway with no problems. The ride is generally excellent! I would call this car a crossbreed between a Volvo, a BMW 3 Series, and a Honda Civic. My friends are jealous that their cars aren’t as nice and cheap and that’s the way I like it!

This is the second elantra I purchased. I liked my 1999 elantra but wanted features to help in the snow. This model has ABS brakes and traction control. I have seen a huge difference in handling over the 99 elantra. I also enjoy the other standard features in this little car. The most impressive part of this car is the gas mileage. I crossed NY and went into the hills of Vermont, AC and cruise. This car gave me over 40 miles per gallon. Absolutely fantastic!!

Wonderful car! My first brand new car and i've had no complaints. It looks like its worth more than the 15G's its on the market for. Gotten so many complements and 'what kinda car is thats!?!?' It gets wonderful gas mileage (30 and up depending on how and where i drive it). I've had the car since May (now march) and I've had no problems and i've put almost 10G's on it. I'm so glad i picked this brand new car instead of a "better brand" used car. I had an excel years ago which was OK but had heard hyundai's gotten better and its true.

One of the nicest compacts out there. Rides better and has more room and pep than my Civic had. But my 3 negatives are: (1)Squeaks developed going slowly over speed bumps after 8 mos. (2)I have yet to get over 20 mpg and I drive slowly and do not accelerate suddenly. I do drive solely in town however. (3)The rear window fogs when it's rainy and humid unless the AC is full blast.

This car purchase is the meeting point of lowest cost for the highest number of desired features, relatively good gas mileage for reasonable cabin/trunk space, and operational reliability. I plan to drive this vehicle for the next 10 years, so the Hyundai warranty was a very strong selling feature. Didn't pay the extra $800 for two features I wanted (AT and cruise) but I haven't been sorry. The car drives well thru all conditions including snow/ice, tho an 8 hr road trip is about as much as I want in it. It does have the highway 'floaty' feel to it. For mostly about town transportation, I'm quite satisifed w/ it, tho I will be acquiring after market cruise control (for less than $800!).

I bought this car to replace a much beloved Mazda Protege 5 which was totalled in an accident. The Hyundai is more comfortable at the expense of handling, but I am very pleased. Initial fuel economy wasn't so great, but is improving with each tank. I am impressed with how quiet it is once speed has been reached. The cargo area is quite spacious and the seats are almost as comfortable as Volvos I've ridden in. Fit & finish are top notch and I found material quality better than the Honda Civic that I looked at. Feels like a more expensive car than it really is.

Bought in Mar of O5 and now have 11k miles on it. Car has been flawless. Traction control great on icy roads. Starts great in below zero weather. Gas mileage consistently between 27 and 33 mpg. Handling is nice not to stiff and rides much nicer and quieter than my 02 Honda civic. Stereo good. Cannot see why anyone would pay the extra money for a Honda which is several thousand more with less equipment. Warranty is unbeatable and overall quality seems to be great. I would recommend this car to anyone that is looking for a great car at a great price.

I love this car! I have been driving a '94 Geo Prizm around for a long time, finally traded it in for a pre- owned '05 Elantra GT 4dr sedan (manual transmission) with only 8400 miles on it, and I am in heaven. It is a great commuter car, plenty of pep, I get good gas mileage, and it loooks great to me, which is what matters. I have only had the car for 3 days now, and I like it more every day I drive it. I seem to find excuses to have to run errands just so I can drive this car some more. The handling also seems to be perfectly fine to me, as long as you don't compare it to a performance sports car. Now if Hyundai only made a small minivan or CUV for my wife . . . :)

Switch gear for climate control and turn signal has the feel of Toyota quality. Windshield washer nozzles spit out 3 streams each.Ice cold A/C. No wind noise on the highway.Sporty handling. Bright brake lights(I can light up the persons face sitting behind me at a stop light) For the weekend mechanic oil filter and spark plugs are easily accessable. NOW THE BAD: It took 3 trips to 2 different dealships to fix the leaky moonroof. Front and rear passenger seats need to sit higher for more thigh support.Mushy brakes. Overall a great bargain.

I traded in my 2003 Elantra for the 2005 Elantra GT, four door. The GT is well worth it. I like the leather seats but think they should be heated. The car is comfortable on the road and in town. On the road it rides like a much larger sized car. It takes curves like a sports car. Its roomy and well laid out on the inside. I've added HID headlights, a Wheelskins leather steering wheel cover and an exterior temperature monitor.

It has a peppy engine that has a nice growl, and handling is similar to a Jetta. Its very agile around tight corners, and really holds well to the road. My nephew was first looking at a used Honda Civic. After I told him he could get a fully loaded Elantra GLS with traction control and ABS for $13,352 (w/ a $1250 mfr. rebate), we took one out for a test drive with 4 adults and AC running. It had a great take off with 4 adults in and the AC running. The 10 year power terrain warranty is better than what Honda, Toyota or Nissan offers. Gas mileage is in the upper 2os for city and mid 30's for highway. The fit and finish is really good and the ride is comfortable. There is --NO WAY-- you can find a better package for this kind of money. Out the door ( with tax and everything included ), it was $14.8K.

I bought this car several weeks ago and have been driving it in a variety of different ways. I commute 25 miles each way on the highway for work and live in a densely populated city. The GT version's suspension and interior touches make longer highway drives pleasent and comftorble. In the city it handles well also but MPG suffers and becomes very average for its class. Also the visibility in the rear of the hatchback version is not as good as other hatchbacks I have driven. The engine is quick to respond from a stop but it seems you really have to lead foot it to get brisk accelleration at moderate speeds. Chose auto over manual after not liking the shift range and clutch.

Since then, I've come to realize that it wasn't only a fantastic deal for about $15,000, but would have been a good choice for thousands more. There is no other car that offers the combination of style, comfort, drive, and price that the Elantra provides. And, it's not a bland and overpriced Civic or Corolla. This is my first online post, but I feel that strongly about this car. Spend some time researching the Elantra and comparing it to the others. You'll quickly see that its more than a good deal; its a car you'll love.

After 3 months and 7000 miles the car has been in the shop 4 times. Three times for problems with the cruise control and once because they did not replace the drain plug properly after an oil change which caused a leak and because the paint was coming off where a bird made a deposit. I was told the warranty did not cover the paint as it was a "foreign substance". They would have covered it had I purchased their after market paint sealer. I called Hyundai Customer Care and was told, "Paint is not covered under warranty if the car is exposed to outside elements". I asked how I was expected to drive the car without exposing it to outside elements? No answer just a "it's our policy sir".

Before purchasing the Elantra GT, I had done extensive research on the many competitors in its category. I was surprised to find that it outperformed even the Corolla and Civic. After 7500 miles, I've decided that my choice was a good one. The Elantra is exceeding my expectations. It is sporty, economical, quiet and a very fun car to drive. The performance in the city or on the freeway has been exceptional. My one complaint is that the GT color options are limited. I would have liked a white GT.

Hesitant as I was to buy a Korean vehicle, I am glad I did. I've only owned the car for 2 weeks now - but at 1200 miles now (I can finally use the cruise control!) - it's been flawless. There is nothing about this vehicle that I haven't expected (not the fastest engine) - and a few things that I have been pleasantly surprised about - (the A/C gets too cold?!?) - this car is built with quality in mind - and is right on par with it's competition; at a better price to boot. In order to get ABS - I opted for a model with the sunroof/traction control/ABS package- which adds about $1300 to the base price GT - worth it in my opinion - and you get a sunroof too! I see no reason not to buy this car.

Test drove the Civic, Corolla and Elantra. All very nice cars but the Elantra has many more standard features, gives a bigger car ride and is overall a great value. The 138 HP 2.0 Liter engine is in a class by itself in this car category. Acceleration is very good and the engine is fairly quiet. Fit and finish on the car is excellent. Once you get over the bad history and stigma of driving a Hyundai from years ago, you will be favorably impressed and this probably won't be the last Hyundai you purchase. This car is simply a better and heavier car than the Civic or Corolla with a much better warranty. Gas mileage is less than its competitors, but worth it.

I bought this car because my previous vehicle, a 2000 Ford Focus was totalled in a flood. I was going to test drive the Elantra back when I bought the Ford and should have! Though I haven't had this car for long, its already so much better then the Focus. As far as handling is concerned, the Ford has this car beat, but thats about it. I don't know of any other car with leather, sunroof, abs, traction control, etc. for the price. Definitely check this car out.

This is by far the best vehicle I have ever owned. Granted, I've only owned it for a few days now, but I am yet to be disappointed. I can't hear the engine and cannot tell if it is even running. The drive is smooth and the steering wheel is very easy to handle. I feel like I am apart of the car when I am driving it. I previously owned a '99 Mazda 626 that I loved very much. But I have to admit that the Elantra is much more fun to drive and is easier to maneuver. Plus, the gas mileage is a whole lot better than the 626. There is a lot of trunk space and there is more back seat room than I would have expected for an economy car. I love the cup holders, CD Player and sound system!

Nothing came close to it. All power options+ Sun R, CD, Keyless, etc. Rides very nice, nice seats, nice looks, not much road noise, less then the Neon that's for sure!

It's going on 2 years since I bought the car. I just passed 50,000 miles of mostly back road driving. I bought the manual so that I could pass on country roads and it performs beautifully although it does struggle in 5th up the steep glacier-carved hills of upstate New York. Gas mileage is about 29 mpg with little highway. The interior has enough room for my 6' 4" frame. The quality is great, and better than my 2004 Toyota Sienna. My only problems have been with the windshield squirters and the roof trim (held on by weak plastic clips that can't take being hit by a snow shovel). For the money, it is a great little car.

I "downgraded" from a Tiburon GT with the 6cyl 6spd. I needed a more sensible car with 4 kids, better gas mileage, and 4 doors. The Elantra fit the bill and I am very happy with it so far. The true test will be further down the road, but now I can fill up once a week, fit most of the family in, and still get good gas mileage to work. The car is leaps and bounds more comfortable than the Tiburon, but with the loss of handling and responsiveness. I currently prefer the comfort with my hour commute. Everything works as expected and the engine is well up to the task of moving the bugger.

This is the second Elantra I have owned. I have had only one very minor warranty repair, a defective wiper blade. With the automatic, the power is only adequate to good with regard to off the line acceleration, but the vehicle can run all day on the interstate without any tiresome engine noise. The previous Elantra (an '02) had a 5spd and was much sportier to drive. Both were tight and squeak and rattle free. The GT definitely has the better suspension for handling with only a slightly firmer ride.

Boy, there is a lot to like about Elantra. Best looking small car out there, much more plush, roomy, solid and fun to drive than Sentra, Corolla, Civic, Focus, etc.. But why does a car this size with a 4-cyl/5-spd get such poor gas mileage? Even driving over flat roads at 60mph, I cannot get better than the mid-20's for highway mileage. I have driven larger 6 and 8- cyl cars and gotten better mileage. C'mon Hyundai, you build a nice car, now get with the program and deliver better mileage (especially with gas costing $2.75/gal!!!).

I love this car. I'm averaging 33.4 miles/gallon currently and am learning to bring up the mileage by driving carefully (braking less) and trying to cruise when I can. This is in city/hwy driving. When gas is an issue, this car solves the problem. At first, the mileage was about 25-26 mpg and it has drastically improved recently. It is very comfortable and the leather was standard. The CD/audio/radio AM&FM are heck of a lot better than the Honda Civic's and the sound is a lot more crisp and clear. This car is peppy and the struts are very tight. I guess that's what comes with a "sporty" suspension. A little more spring wouldn't hurt, but I like the car as a whole.

Shopped Civic, Corolla, Focus and all others but none could give a total package vehicle. They might be equal or slightly better in one area but none could deliver everything and a great price, except Hyundai. Elantra was the only one that had ABS, traction control, gas mileage, leather, cruise, sunroof, hatchback, 6 speakers, side airbags, automatic, HUGE warranty, and best price ... $14,500 paid. I'm getting 30 miles to the gallon (highway driving) and the engine isn't even broken in yet. I'm 6'1" and the car has plenty of room for my legs. The storage space with the hatchback is good. Overall, I got more for my money than I ever expected when I started shopping.

What a great car! I was going to replace my Accent with another Accent, but after seeing and driving the Elantra hatchback, I was hooked. I got out the door for only $13k, and that included a moonroof and CD player. Considering it was only $2200 more than a sparsely equipped Accent GT, it was an incredible bargain. Handles great, extremely comfortable, engine is smooth and powerful, transmission is silky. It's too early to tell about reliability, but if it's like my '01 Accent, it will be a gem. My first tankful of gas gave me 35 mpg (mostly highway driving). Stylish car!

Ok, first off, I've had way too many cars. Between my wife and me, we've owned 41 cars since 1994. I think I'm qualified to say this Hyundai Elantra GT is one of the best driving compact cars I've ever driven or owned. The leather interior is very comfortable and was made to last. Very nice leather steering wheel and shifter. The ride is 10 out of 10. No other compact car with a sporting attitude even comes close. I average 27.5 city and recently observed 30+ at 80mph+ with the ac on. Great headlights, awesome brakes, very good handling, and way more roomy inside than others. The Focus, Neon, Civic, and Mazda3 should take some notes. The 3 is overrated IMHO>

Love our 1993 Toyota Corolla so we looked at the 2005 models but chose the Elantra instead. We are both 6 feet tall and have a bit more leg, head, and shoulder room in the Elantra than the 2005 Corolla. Costs less than the Corolla too, for the same equipment. And it can tow 3,086 lbs instead of 1,500 if we ever need it. Reminds me of the Corolla from the 90's - simple and clean interior design. Live in Phoenix, AZ metro area, been running the A/C non-stop and getting 28 mpg so far with mixed city/highway driving. Longer basic and powertrain warranty than any comparable car out there. Smaller turning radius than the Corolla, handy for U-turns on side streets.

Only down side is the base model has no CD player. This is 2005, all cars should have a CD player as standard equipment. The $600. up grade is not worth it. I am looking at the 2006 to replace my Honda Accord next year. Looks the same drives better, cost less and has they 100k warranty... Hyundai sure has risen to the top...

On our list we originally had the Vibe/Matrix, Impreza, PT and Cobalt; the Elantra was a last-minute addition due to a good review I read; never would have considered it otherwise. We in time narrowed our choice to the Vibe and Elantra, and back to back there is no comparison between the two. The Elantra rides much better (my fillings are still resetting from the Vibe test), has a bigger and more useful trunk, has great leg room front and back, and gets virtually the same MPG. The 5-speed shifts nicely, and all controls felt intuitive. And... a fully equipped GT was less than a near-base Vibe. Add to that a five year full warranty, and you've got one great car.

This is the third Elantra in our family. My wife and son both have 2003s and mine is the 2005. I had a 2001 Neon, and from driving their Elantra's, I had to have my own. When I got rid of my Neon, I found the original window sticker in car. The Elantra was only $400 more list price. Also, my Neon was 5 speed, no power anything, and manual locks. The 2005 Elantra has power for just about everything for just $400 more that a new 2001 Neon( which only had a 3/36000 warranty). This car is an absolute purchase for the commuter, lots of bang for little buck. Like I said, this is our third, and I can definately see a fourth in the future.

We've had this car for a few weeks, and I am surprised how much I've grown to love it- how well it handles, the beauty of the interior and exterior (European stying), and it appears to be very well-made- nice perfect lines throughout the body and all seams. Between the price for it's class, the features, the warranty- it's the best deal. Also it has lots of pep! It loses just a little with the a/c on, but with the 2.0 it definitely beats the Civic's and the Corolla's 1.6. It's so much fun to drive! I would never pay so much more for a comparable Honda or Toyota just for resale value- I'd rather pay less now- it's all relative in the end.

I love this car. Perfect size for a sporty sedan. Great 5-speed gearbox. Short throws in the shifter. Solid feel and great handling. Best value I could find for the money. It's just fun to drive. Engine is smooth and has sufficient power for the car's weight.

This is my second Elantra, both 5spd manual, the 04 model got all the newer details just right,i.e., dash construct, console style, and AC features. Very happy with the overall car and drive experience, fits long and short trip needs. Roadside assistance has also been a very nice feature when keys get locked in by mistake. Power feels good and is responsive, but I miss the gas mileage I used to get with my Toyotas. Can't see why I can't get that yet with these cars... So, overall scale of 1-10, 8

This car replaced my chevy avalanche for reasons of fuel economy. I opted for the hatch to still be able to carry a few things. I'm not comfortable in many cars because of my 6'3" frame but even on long trips this car has been very comfortable. Fuel economy has been excellent with about 31.5 mpg combined. The build quality is excellent and even though this is my first Hyundai, it will not be my last. I would recommend this car to anyone needing a practical and economical commuter that still has a lot of luxury features.

Priced right, fine warranty, and comfortable to drive. It's actually fun to drive. Has been most reliable. That said, I read someplace that Hyundai has had a general problem with transmissions that hang up briefly on occasion. I found this interesting in that, although very infrequently, I have experienced this with the Elantra. In spite of this, I give the car a good grade.

Purchased for comute vehicle. Other cars; Corvette, GTO, GS430 & Denali so you see I expect a lot out of a car. The Elantra is a great performer, has a lot of standard equipment and good gas mileage for it's class. If you have a lot of driving, want good performance at a very reasonable price do not overlook a Hyundai. The Elantra is a very easy driver and I highly recommend it!

This car, considering it's initial cost, is about THE best value on the road. It's very economical (getting a solid 34 mpg overall). The enterior, exterior, overall body quality work is absolutely excellent. I would put this vehicle next to a Honda Civic any day. That includes all the rest of it's competing vehicles as well.

I tried several of the most popular comparable models on the market; Honda Civic/ Nissan, Toyota, Ford, Chevrolet, etc. None performed better or had better apparent overall quality. But all the rest were moderately to significantly higher in price. In my mine the extra cash paid only for the "label" of the car and nothing else. None had the warranty of the Hyundai. Save your money and buy a rather excellent quality vehicle at a fair piece less than comparable brands.

The bottom line for me was the bang for the buck and reliability factor. The Elantra has some nice features that you can't find on similar class vehicles. I previously owned a 2000 Honda Civic LX and yes it was very dependable, but it was also boring. The Elantra has helped me to remember the excitement of driving once again!

I absolutely like my Hyundai Elantra hatchback I brought 3 month ago. The only problems I had is the brakes making noise in wet weather. It rides like a dream and the gas mileage is great I'm getting 36 mile per gal. I'm been a Honda person for years. The Elantra holes the road like a dream and handle get in the snow cover roads.

10 years ago Hyundai was the laughing stock of the auto industry. Today, Hyundai is changing the face of automobiles offering quality products with incredible warranties. I purchased this car for gradutation and I could not be happier. Afforadble payments and cheap full coverage insurance will keep me in the green with the rise of gas prices. I recommed these vehicles to anyone who wants a safe, fun to drive vehicle that won't break the bank.

We managed to get the car near invoice price. I've had it for 1 year now, and it has not let me down. It has enough power to not be considered slow. The fuel economy, while not stellar, is acceptable. In my humble opinion, there is no car in this price range that even comes close.

Very enjoyable to drive. Quiet interior, comfortable seats, dash has a nice layout. Seems to be built very solid. The children say it's much more comfortable in the rear seat than our '95 Dodge Neon. Let me get overly critical. The brakes are soft but stop well. Handling is good but it has more body lean than the old Neon. Getting the SULEV in the automatic robs you of 6 horsepower (I live in CA, don't know if you can get the automatic here without it being SULEV). We would purchase it over all the competition again, highly recommended.

I've just bought my first Hyundai, an Elantra GT Sedan with full package and I'm thrilled with it. Had never even considered one until a week ago, but the facts and the feel all added up to one obvious decision - I had to buy one. FACTS: There's NOTHING that's cheaper anywhere in the market in new cars. I've compared all the majors. With the special $1,750 rebate, it was a must-have! There's more standard on these cars than any other make and no better warranty anywhere! Period. FEEL: Plenty of power from a 2.0 liter motor if you're OK with a manual tranny. Very solid ride (GT only) - handles turns and bumps with ease and safety.

I just bought a new 2005 Hyundai Elantra GLS 4 Door Sedan Automatic Transmission about a week ago, and I love this car. The styling and standard features of the Elantra rival that of a luxury car, but the price tag is $10,000 - $15,000 lower. It has a lot of power and size for a small car, and gets good gas mileage. I have only had the car for a week, and have been driving it around the city, and have put 200 miles on it, and I still have about a half a tank of gas on it. Trust me, test drive this car and you will love it.

I never thought in a million years I'd own a Hyundai, I looked at the Mazda, Toyota, Nissan and Ford before jumping on the Hyundai banwagon. I was impressed with the build and quality, not to mention the price and warranty. This has been the best vehicle I have ever purchased and I've owned almost every name brand out there at one time or another. I purchased a new 2005 Elantra GT for under $12G and can't believe how quite it drives on the highway, I averaged 38 MPG on a recent 1500 mile trip. I love it and proberly sold at least 5 of my friends on buying one.

Fun car to drive, purchased for kids to use. Fuel Gauge went bad, also problem with odometer electronics, within a month period odometer went from 19k+ skipped the 20s and 30s and went to 40k, neither Hyundai nor dealer would take care of it. I had canceled the extended warranty 6 months prior and funished Hyundais cust. service dept in Irvine with notarized statement of mileage at that time at approx 11k. I had owned prior Hyundais with no issues approx 10 yrs prior. They always took care of the consumer. I guess now they are to big. I have purchased 3 new cars in the past 3 months non a Hyundai and never will buy another. They will never be equal to Mazda or Honda with this lack of service

This is my first new car and I am comfortable knowing i will be taken car of with the warrenty especially since I am a student. Remember you get a lot of car for such a low price because Hyundai is still making a name for itself in this country. The GT is fun to drive, the manual is very responsive and the suspension firm, but not harsh. I look good in this car and I look forward to driving it. Also I must say the six speaker stereo is loud and very clear. This is no econobox.

My Elantra GT is the first Hyundai I have bought after previously owning Honda's, Toyota's and Mazda's. I thoroughly tested the Civic, Corolla, Mazda 3 and Ford Focus. The Civic was very noisy and a mediocre performer. The Corolla was uncomfortable and slow. Both the Mazda 3 and the Focus were better but the Elantra GT stood out, and at a lesser price! Then I saw the latest Consumer Reports annual auto edition. They say "The Elantra is just basic transportation.... but neither agile nor sporty." I couldn't disagree more. The GT handles and rides better than the Accord EX I just sold and is much quieter. So far, the Elantra has exceeded my expectations and I am happy with my choice.

For the money I don't think you can get a better deal with such good quality. I was so impressed with what you get that I am sure this is the best bang for the buck. The engine is the smoothest 4 cyl I have ever driven... bar none, something I never expected. Solid feel seems like a much bigger car. Be careful though, when on the highway you can easily get to 90 without noticing, thats how good the ride is and how zippy the motor is. Overall one of the best purchases I have ever made.

In a world that is all about names and labels, it is nice to stand out from the crowd. Hyundai isn't the brand it once was. The Elantra is by far a better car than its competition, even WITHOUT factoring price. The car has a great suspension, smooth, but tight in corners. It's absurdly quiet inside compared to other cars in its class. The quality and fit and finish are better than Civic. The design is not boring whatsoever. When you sit in this car and drive it every day, you don't feel like you "settled". The warranty is really just icing on the cake, you won't need to use it. Hyundais are engineered better than Hondas: example: Hondas use plastic radiators, Hyundais use metal.

My wife & I went to the local dealership with every intention of trading in our old Accent for another new one. The dealership offered us an Elantra for the same price, so it was a no brainer to upgrade. Everything about the Elantra is so much better than the Accent, it's just a different class of vehicle. Good room and fuel economy are its major selling points, with no problems after five months and five thousand miles. Overall, no real complaints, though I would have liked a sunroof and/or anti-lock brakes.

I bought my 2002 Elantra GT (manual transmission, ABS, moonroof) in October of 2002. 2 and1/2 years later, I'm convinced it was one of the smartest things I've ever done. Seats are comfortable, ride is smooth and quieter than my wife's 2001 Neon, no mechanical problems, and it's a great looking car inside and out. Quality look and feel of the leather and controls and more rear legroom than you're likely to find in a compact car. Love the storage capacity with the seats folded. I bought an old house and do lots of home imporvement projects myself. I'm always amazed at how much stuff I can fit in there with ease.

After driving US, Euro, and Japanese cars for 40 years, I came to understand that you go with the manufacturer who is trying hardest. For now, that seems to be Hyundai. The Elantra has begun to come out of the shadow of it's big sister - Sonata - to earn well deserved praise. After driving this car for several months, now, I have found only one mistake: When you drop the automatic shift lever down to the stop, it lands in third gear, rather than Drive. This can result in straining the engine, on the highway, unless you notice it. Otherwise, the design features appear to be literally flawless. It's tame, comfortable basic transport, but it wants to frolic. It may surpirse you!

I have always bought American for no good reason but I took a chance on the Elantra Hatchback because I needed a practical family car. I love it! For the price, I have a great car with a sunroof, quasi-leather seats that fold completely flat in the back, and a fun drive. I recommend it and have had no problems after a few months of ownership.

Value! It's inexpensive, yet comes loaded with features. I haven't had any problems thus far. I was surprised to have leather seats, an MP3 player, power windows, rear window defroster, etc for the price. The car is one of the more roomy ones for it's class. I'm a tall and bigger person and although I'm not able to spread ou like in a luxury or larger car, I'm still comfortable. Trust me, I've sat in the other cars in the Elantra's class and price range and they all seemed to have less room for the front seats. I highly recommend the Elantra. It was my first major purchase (I'm a college student), and although I was very scared of the commitment, I didn't have any buyer's remorse.

So far its a neat car. I think the exterior styling is top notch. It doesnt appear to be trying to look cool. Nice wheels, and contrasting body moldings. Look at the back of the car at night with the tail lights on. No lie, it has a smiling face. Alot like a Jack-O-Lantern. You'll think I am nuts until you look.

I have had this car about a week and love it for a compact. It has more driver's legroom, rides better, has more power, steers better, and just overall is a nicer car than my '99 Civic was. Top it off with a much better warranty than Honda or Toyota offer and for thousands less.

I compared & test drove many many vehicles including the Kia Spectra before purchasing the Elantra. For a communter car, the overall quality, reliability and pricing made this a no brainer. The only complaint I have is the gas mileage during local/city driving. I get great mileage on the highway but the city/local mileage seems to suffer severely. But I guess I should not complain too much because the gas mileage is way better than my Chevy Suburban. I did not get the $300 CD Player option, instead purchased an Alpine/Kenwood system & installed it myself for the same price. Overall I think this is an excellent value when everything is factored in.

Owning this car makes you feel smug because you spent about $3,000 less than someone buying a comparably equipped Civic or Corolla. My Elantra has everything (including ABS/Traction Control) except a sunroof, and I paid less than $15,000 out-the-door. The car is well-built and fun to drive. If you're in the market for a compact, give the Elantra a test drive; you'll be glad you did.

I had to be talked into buying this car against my wishes, but I love it. The car is smooth, reliable, has wonderful design (everything necessary is within reach) and the warranty CANNOT BE BEAT! I bought this car used with only 10,500 miles on it and had a bearing go within the first month. No problem. I took it into the dealership and they fixed it and changed the oil just for good measure while they had it at no charge! I didn't believe the warranty could be that good or that reliable, but it is. Am getting ready to trade mine in for a new one because of how fast I put miles on it (and that is the only reason). Yhinking I might try the Sonata this time. It is a wonderful car!

I have owned my car for a mouth and I can say that it is very easy to drive. It doesn't matter if it's snow, ice, rain covered roads - this thing can do it. I really looked this car over and was surprised by how much is done to it. I could not find any flaws in the paint or any rust on the suspension or exhaust. I live on a 5 lane highway with a 55mph limit This car can get me up to speed right out of my driveway pretty good. I'm happy it has an independant rear suspension (Honda didn't). The seats leave a little to be desired but If they were too comfortable you'd fall asleep at the wheel. Excellent buy!

I traded in my '04 Civic for this car last week and so far I'm loving it. The Hyundai has a lot more features for the same price as the Civic, and it's better looking and more fun to drive. I also read that Hyundai is rated second only to Lexus for customer satisfaction. Although Honda is known as a very reliable car, I think Hyundai is just as good and pays more attention to the little details that make you love your car.

Although I would like to see the seat coverings more modern looking, the car drives fabulous. It's responsive and handles with ease and surety. It has all the bolts and whistles at a fraction of the costs we pay for Toyota and Honda. After test driving all three I picked the Elantra. It had a better feel than the other two. And you cannot beat the warranty.

This is my 2nd Elantra, this time I stepped up to the GT package (with the moonroof and ABS) and do not regret it! It is a nice tight handling sedan, has much of the personality similar to the late 80's Honda's (back when they were FUN and not just appliances...). Super car for todays $$. I have been a diehard Honda fan for 20 years, I am a happy and elated Hyundai fan now! Drive this car before you buy any other compact- you won't be disappointed with the value. Oh yeah- gotta love that warranty. Only had 1 warranty repair in 75k on the old 2002 Elantra. Reliability is not an issue for this car.

Decided to try the Elantra over Civic based on general good feel of Elantra in test drive and about $3,500 less cost than Civic. Get as good or better millage and the only complaint is that I felt the wiper blades were not right - dealer replaced on drive in to service in about 25 minutes. So far, I love the good feelings of saving $$ and gas and overall performance is A+++++. Great radio also. Highly recommended.

After visiting a Mazda dealer for used Protege5 2003 car, I went to the Hyundai dealer. The Protege5 2003 is a very good car, but when I tested the 2005 Elantra GT, I felt completly in love. First this car is very funny to drive, even in winter weather (it was - 15 Celsius, and full of snow when I drove the car for the first time - in Montreal, Quebec). I tested the car for at least an hour, and my choice was made....financing package was unbeatable - 0%/5years - first payment will be in May 2006!!!! I bought the GT premium version - sunroof, ABS (great brakes), spoiler...but no TCS (Traction Control), they told me it comes only in the GT version, no premuim...I did not understand why...

This is a fine car in every respect: comfortable, maneuverable, fun-to- drive, and totally reliable. Our gas mileage has averaged 30.2 mpg since purchase in Feb. 2004. Build quality is excellent - no rattles or other unexpected noises. Everything works as expected. The blue-light instruments are very easy to see. The heater/ac system controls are direct and effective. The back is quite spacious. We folded down the easy-to-use rear seats, and now have plenty of room for our two medium-sized dogs. As for performance, the handling is confident with an incredibly tight turning radius. Comfortable, but firm ride (GT model) with good brakes. All in all, this is an amazing automotive value.

My first Elantra was a '97 which I bought new in Michigan. I drove it for 8 years and spent less than 600 dollars for repairs during the 8 years. When it came time for a new car to drive around town I chose another Elantra. No one sells a better car for the price. I sold my old car to a neighbor who could not be more pleased (neither could his 16 year old daughter who drives it.) The car is loaded with premium features for a bargain price. It is comfortable, reliable, and economical. What more could you possibly ask from a car which cost under $12,000 including tax and delivery? I could use a CD player instead of the standard tape player but for 200 bucks that was easy to fix.

I looked at Ford Focus, Mazda 3i, and Dodge Neon. I bypassed the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla because of their more expensive price tags as I was looking for economy at a reasonable price. The Ford Focus I ruled out as soon as I sat in it due to the fact that I am 6'2" and the seat had absolutely no thigh support and was very uncomfortable. The Mazda 3i was a bit better, but the noise in the car at highway speeds was very disappointing. When I sat in the Elantra, I liked it immediately due to it's adjustable front seat which provided comfortable thigh support. After a test drive I was sold...it performed very nicely and had more standard equipment on the base model than the others.

I went to a Hyundai dealer Toyota and Subaru. The Hyundai was, by far, the most fun to drive and the best value. The snappy 2L 4 cyl engine couples well with the 5-speed to produce a sports-car driving experience. The car handles exceptionally well in curves. I was so surprised by how much fun driving a GT was that I bought one. The exterior finish and design are first-rate, as is the awsome feature list. The GT comes with leather seats and all of the ammenities of an upscale roadster --- but at a price near a sub-compact. The only feastures I can think to improve would be the seats (a bit stiff and the mileage (34mpg hwy). The real-time mpg display inhibits flogging the engine, too.

It's been flawless. The driver's multiple seat adjustments and the smooth ride make my long trips pleasurable. Plenty of cruising power. Well designed nooks & compartments, and cup holders... I see lots of Elantras on the road, and am hoping resale on these continues to improve as folks see Hyundai has its act together-- but even it if doesn't, I expect to happily drive this car for a LONG time, and am confident I'll get my money's worth.

The Elantra GT is the Korean equivelant of the first Volkswagen GTI. Put a strong motor in a small car with a good suspension a decent 5 speed transmission, add a nice interior a good stereo and an attractive price and it will sell. I have seen as many new GT's as I did when I had purchased my GTI 20 years ago cruising down the road and passing me with a wave or knowing smile. This is a well thought out and quality built car that is fun to drive and turn's heads. I have had people ask numerous times if it's the new saab?

Drives like a dream, holds the road like it knows the way to where you are going. Controls are second nature, good gas mileage so far, with 1200 miles getting 25mpg. Hatchback utility is awesome with plenty of cargo space. Loaded a new dishwasher without a sweat, who needs a gas guzzling SUV? We are very happy with our purchase to date. My wife has a Honda Accord, which is also a great car , but she says the Hundai holds the road better and handles like a champ. If you are going to buy one make sure to spend the extra for the GT suspension.

Being in the market for a reliable, well built but low cost new small car, I fully expected to end up buying a Honda Civic.. Until I listened to a friend who swore by his '03 Elantra. I'm glad I did. After lotsa research & test driving both the Civic & Elantra GT, The Elantra was the clear winner with much better acceleration, lots more fun to drive, better looks in & out, better interior egonomics, the fit & finish was excellent, great sound insulation, the warranty was far, far better. The Elantra GT came with far more standard features (like leather, alloy wheels, etc.)and cost, after all the dickering at both, literaly thousands of $$ less than the Civic. This car's a steel !
