At 149,000 miles, this 2005 Volvo-Based car is still a great buy for us after 10 years. Owned since new. Engine and trans mostly problem free. Rear bearings at 135,000. Occasional brake work.

DON'T BUY THIS CAR! Transmission woes will plague you if you buy a car with this transmission. Other owners stated their facts well, mine are similar. What I've learned is that Ford has no integrity, won't stand behind their product, and don't mind selling inferior products. Shame on you, Ford....I'll never buy another. I also think the reviews praising this car are bogus. None of the questions above apply, the car can't be driven. Apparently Ford will do nothing to resolve the car's shortcomings SHAME ON YOU FORD MOTOR COMPANY!

Ok so we bought this 2005 freestyle had 18 months ran perfect. Monday we are driving down the road lose all power, pull over the car is still running but gas pedal will not work. We turned vehicle off started it back ran perfect until Saturday same thing happened. We coasted into auto zone they put it on diagnostics. Diagnostics said it was tps so later that day same thing happened pulled over turned car off it started back but now engine light won't go off. I took it to ford dealer they are saying it's throttle body. There was a recall but ford won't honor because they are saying it has never been serviced but the warranty on it ran out June 2 So now we have to pay 940 to ford place for throttle body ridiculous but only vehicle we have so it's got to be paid

own a 2005 limited awd..duratek engine is great, but CVT trans is junk. I first noticed the car started lunging around 80k miles. Progressively got worse. Then the transmission went. MANY transmission specialists told me it's about a $6k job, and they didn't even want to touch it. Even the Ford dealership told me the car wasn't worth the fix. You can't even find a salvaged/rebuilt CVT because they are ALL junk, and if you do, no one will guarantee anything. And after reading everyone else's posts with the exact same problems, it's an absolute abomination that Ford would not do a recall. Ford is well aware of these issues, even launched an investigation, but never made the recall! I still owe about 1k on the beast, and i will probably get a few more months out of it so im gonna drive it into the ground. I've always been a Ford girl, and was especially proud that they didn't take a bailout. But Ford is still using this transmission, and their full knowledge of these issues and refusing to stand by their product has really put me off. Basically, we are getting screwed, and they don't care. I am extremely disappointed with Ford. I am no longer a Ford girl.

I bought my Limited AWD new in 2005 and have found the car to be very reliable. Just turned 270K miles as I drive a lot for my work. Gas mileage is consistent at 21 mpg now for mix of highway/town driving. I do alot of general maintenance myself. Things that have been replaced include all wheel bearings, front struts, some front suspension items, normal brakes/rotors/calipers once. I change oil at 5K with ford semi-synthetic and the engine doesnt use a drop of oil between oil changes. Drivers seat heater stopped working a while back. CVT had filter/fluid changes at 190K and as been rock solid. Once a year you should clean the butterfly in the throttle body- if not it can surge at idle.

i have a 05 Limited Freestyle has 79,000 miles, bought it from my aunt and its been a great car since just dont drive it hard simple as that its a heavy car if you put the peddle to the floor constintly expect problems.. and keep it maintained the car will last for a long time and check for recalls before fixing anything.

We bought our freestyle off kijiji. At first it was a good vehicle but was a little suckish on gas. We liked it for room for dogs or for passengers or for easy convienvence. After about two years of ownership, we started hearing a rumbling sound when in P or N. We took the car in and they told us that it was the transmission. We will now be trying to get rid of this piece of shit for something better like a mazda cx-7 before our lemonmobile breaks down. ps never buy another FORD.

We bought out Freestyle used and was assured that it was a great automobile with no known issues. After a year of owning it the car died and it has to have the CVT transmission fixed. I replaced the mechatronic unit and it still is not fixed. Dealer said that the best thing to do is light a match and drop it on the floorboard. A new trans is $6000 and a throttle body is $500. Mechatronic unit was $800. What a money pit. If it had a better transmission it would be a great car but it cannot move without this working.

I've had my 2005 freestyle 2 years. It's miles 112,000. When stopped it would lunge forward. Had mechanic look at it but he couldn't get it to lunge. Then the rear traction light came on. Tried to take it to mechanic & was fine. A few more days go by and then the check transmission light comes on. Again go to mechanic and it runs fine. This time I had it looked at & was told it had 5 transmission codes, none of which he could fix. Drove it for weekend made an appt to take to tranny shop, told it needed a new tranny $4500 plus labor of $1500 and backordered 90 days. I am like others and stuck making payments while it sits. This will be my last Ford.

This car has been nothing but a pleasure to own. I have the SEL FWD model with leather and sunroof. The proven 3.0L engine is extremely reliable and gets great gas mileage. My Freestyle has 175,000 kms and runs like a charm. We will definitely be buying another crossover, but since Ford didn't keep the design style of the Freestyle and went with the Flex instead, we might be forced to go with a Journey. Overall a job well done by Ford on a safe, economical, practical, and reliable family car.

Purchased this car from a auction 6 months ago. The freestyle has a smooth ride but not kid friendly at all. Easy to get dirty. I've had transmission problems since. I took it to a transmission mechanic and he said he just replaced one 6 months earlier and the lowest transmission he found was 3k used, a new one is 6k. I've emailed Ford because I am driving a Ford and not a Lexus. If I could afford a transmission that cost 3 or 6k I would've bought a Lexus. I've emailed Ford and Dan responded that he's glad I purchased the freestyle, sorry for my problems and good luck. So they are not standing behind their junk....I'm stuck with a piece of JUNK. Please don't buy this car.

I have had this 2005 Freestyle for 1 yr it now has 108,000 mile have not had any problems. I get oil changed every 3,000 miles and due transmission when it needs to be done. I really hope I don't have the issues others have had with this type of car.

Horrible car

After purchasing this car new, my father admitted shortly thereafter that it had been a mistake. When he passed away a few years ago, I inherited the car and have had problem after problem since, culminating in my transmission going completely out last week at 93K miles - thankfully I was in a safe place to get over to call a tow truck. Called the dealership - over $6000 to replace the trans. Suffice it to say I am not pouring more $ into it. Even the dealership admitted they have had multiple problems. Stuck riding the bus. Shame on Ford.

Like many who have commented on this site, my 2005 Freestyle CVT transmission failed at 56, 500 mile. The dealership stated they cannot fix the transmission because Ford doesn't make parts anymore, resulting in replacing the transmission at a cost of $5800.00. Ford Corporate has washed their hands on this matter and will not accept any responsibility, so we are faced with either parking the car because we don't have $5800.00, or looking into sueing Ford under small claims action. Please beware when buying a 2005-07 used Freestyle...learn from our mistake. Bought the vehicle used with 38,000 miles on it. Maintained the vehicle very well and then suddenly out of nowhere, weird noise from the engine during idle in Park or Neutral. two weeks later super loud noise from engine compartment, similar to a chain being dragged across a hollow wooden chest. two weeks after that tranny completely gone. $5900-$7000 to fix or install new one. Still owe just under $7k on the car. Mileage is only 116k. unacceptable and we're walking away from it. vehicle is sitting in the garage next to sons electric power wheels Ford truck that ironically still runs after 3 years...

We recently purchased the freestyle from a reputable dealer.We have owned it for a month now and unfortunately it had to go to the shop numerous times right after buying it for shaking at 55-60mph, tires were cupping,rough idle and power steering pump. They put a new engine damper on it and now have had it for days saying it needs a torque converter. I understand with the miles it has it's not gonna be perfect. I'm starting to feel maybe this car should never have been put on the lot. I can say the problems put aside though I love the style and comfort of the freestyle.

I bought my Freestyle when they first hit the showroom, I had been watching them when they first started showing them on their website. I really did like this SUV, It just rolled over to 100,000 miles a week ago. I was planning on driving this for a long time. Then the transmission started messing up and would not change out of low, the tech was going crazy. The dealership informed us it needed a new transmission at the tune of $5910 out the door. That's about what the thing is worth. I have bought my last Ford and I've had several. I would not advise anyone to buy a Ford because they are nothing but junk and they won't stand behind them. Now I know why they only made them for 3 years.

Reading the reviews is very enlightening. We bought the car new after having good experiences with Ford Explorers. We have had the same problems as most other people. Multiple brake jobs, rotors replaced, new tires, alignment issues, then there's the transmission. Nothing but problems. Dealer worked on the transmission twice now, first replaced a part, then had to install a completely new transmission. Well guess what transmission is out again, no warranty, no recognition by Ford of their clearly substandard product. Car is sitting in the driveway, useless. Turned off from Ford forever. Way to go Ford, short term gain, lifetime loss.

Replaced brakes after 34,000 miles, and had the intermittent cluster display circuit board replaced at a whopping $980.00 I've always bought Ford vehicles in the past, but this is the last time I buy anything from Ford. I don't know how Ford managed to stay away from the bailout, because their vehicles are total garbage, except for their line of Trucks.

Only had this rig for 5 months now, but have enjoyed owning it this far. It has 100,00 miles on it. I am a service tech, at the dealership where it was sold new, So I have presonally done alot of the service work on it. The CVT is original and has no problems so far. Thinking back I can only remember 3 CVT's with problems at our dealership. I worked on one of them. They are pretty simple and compared to other vehicles, I think the failure rate is probabally average. I am planning to tow a 14' fiberglass boat this summer so we'll see how that goes. Removed the rear center console so our 4 year old can get through to the third row.

We live in S. MD and bought the 05 Freestyle new while on a trip to WV; happened to pass a dealer in VA and just stopped in for a look. Traded an 01 Explorer Sport, and have really enjoyed the Freestyle. The handling, comfort, and space were very good; mileage averaged around 24 for 65k miles. CVT took a little getting used to, but really liked it in the mountains, and great in up to 10" of snow. No problems or repairs; just traded it in for a 2010 Lincoln MKX, wife's an SUV girl at heart. Interesting note, local dealer thought our Freestyle was so nice, it's in their showroom for sale, and they can only fit 3 vehicles in the showroom. Freestyle's don't stay on the lot long around here.

I LOVED my Freestyle. Ok, we had the issue with the rear brakes in the beginning, going through a set a year which our fabulous dealer replaced, FREE, twice, and then I had my Firestone guy do it right the third time and they have been fine ever since. No other issues. Drove us fully loaded from Seattle to Texas with the AC full blast the summer before last - 24 MPG! Sadly, last weekend, she performed her final duty, crumpling and absorbing the force as my 17 YO son crashed her. TOTALED. Interior of the car looks like NOTHING HAPPENED. Thank you Freestyle, sniff. You'll be missed. Gone, but not forgotten.

Need New Transmission

Like others, I also need a new transmission at 88K miles. I have done all the tuneups, oil changes, filters, etc on this vehicle since I purchased it new in 2005. Transmission went out and so did the fuel and water pumps all at the same time. Costs more to repair than the car is worth, and I'm still making payments. Wish Ford would make concessions for these vehicles and help with repair expenses.

We've had a very good experience with our Freestyle. It replaced a Durango that we had lots of trouble with. The Freestyle is peppy for its size and handles well. The CVT is different and takes some getting used to. Traction control is sometimes not helpful, very glad that it can be turned off, with it off both front tires pull. Last week I drove home through 6" of unplowed snow without a problem. We had one problem with the Climate Control dash buttons not working, turned out to be a vacuum leak (known to happen). I bought the car for my wife to drive, as she didn't want a minivan. It is a good looking car too. Selling ours to get something 4x4.

Didn't want a minivan but needed lots of space for the expanding family. The driving experience is superb, theres a real feeling of security white driving this car, its very stable. When you take a look around the car, you notice its made strong + lots of protective panels/rubber here and there. Performance is low, but who wants to race a 7 passenger car? Fuel economy is good on the hwy. Its has 70k miles with no major issues. A couple of repair on the suspension but previous owner drove a lot on unpaved roads, so I guess its normal. Generally love this car and recommend it. Saw a couple of internet complaits about tranny prob. I tow a 2000 pound popup tent and its holding up pretty strong.

Just when you think you have bought a reliable family vehicle. I noticed a ticking noise coming from under the hood after a long business trip. When I got back, I decided to have it looked at. I was not even thinking that it could be transmission trouble. Who thinks that at 71,000 miles that you would have transmission trouble? And when I looked to see what the manufacturers warranty was, only 3 years or 36,000 miles???!!! Oh my goodness! You think Ford didn't know that would be a problem? The transmission specialist told me a brand new tranny would cost about $7,000!! I almost choked! What a shame. Please read this and take something from it!

This part is on Backorder and will not be available until Jan 2010. I have been withour my car for 70 days now. Ford is not helpful an supporting the customer. No one will call me back. I bought the second freestyle available at our local dealership. It was roomy and looked sharp.I enjoyed it with the exception of transmission problems. Took it to dealership and they replaced transmission which I paid for would not help.New tranny at 50k give me a break. Drove 1 mile and turned around it was exactly the same problem. They diagnosed the catalytic converter was the problem and replaced that still charging me for the misdiagnosed tranny. 115k new transmission again. Dumped it can't wait to be Ford Free once my F-150 is gone.

My wife chose the Freestyle as a family car while I was overseas, the family (wife and three daughters)enjoyed it for six months. When I returned for vacation I had the opportunity to drive it for a week. I loved the style, handling,color, gas mileage for the times, in-city and highway, spaciousness and cargo capacity. Only regular maintenance and general upkeep required. We loaned it to my sister in- law (a Chevy fan)for 6 months, and now she is a convert. Friends unfamiliar with the vehicle also enjoyed the comfortable ride, leg space and features.

Bought our '05 Freestyle used with 27K. Ran good for 2 weeks, then one of the sensors went bad. $210 later because the car was out of warranty. It's been a year and 27K w/o issues until now the transmission literally blew up while driving. No noise, no check lights, just BAM! It's going to be at least $3K-$6K to fix. From what I've been reading, this is not the first time. I could never figure out how there were so little miles on a 3 year old car. Well, i figure now it must have been in the shop most of those years.

We bought this car, new,from our local dealership. We have never been more unhappy with a car! Even though we always have,we won't buy another Ford product! Things gone wrong: tailgate latch, 2 radio/cd players, seat warmers, rear heater fan, 3 sets of tires-something wrong w/alignment, and now the throttle. Part is on emergency backorder along w/600+ others whose cars are sitting. Dealer solution: car must sit for at least 6 months while waiting for part. Was told all Ford parts are on backorder due to slowing economy and manufacturing problems. Dealership won't give us a loaner or any hope for a reasonable solution, despite our extended warranty. Considering contacting an attorney.

Problems with transmission fromday one, replaced rear brakes twice (check recall) and now need front brakes, transmission repair at 34,000 miles and at 77,000 need a new transmission $6,500. Acceleration problems from day one and they could never duplicate problem. Vehicle would stop abruptly while driving on highway or accelearate. Terrible on snow slides can't get in my drive with two inches of snow, two sets of tires already! Rear doors have never closed right. Gas tank bracket is on a recall, airconditioning has terrible smell they can't get rid of. most of these problems since new purchase! This vehicle is a lemon DO NOT BUY IT!!!

This is my wife's car. I own a Fusion that I love dearly. We took a weekend trip to St. Louis for a funeral. Over 1,400 miles in one weekend with 5 people + luggage. I drive fast (around 90) and still got over 20 mpg for the trip. I could easily see 23-24 mpg fully loaded driving say 65 or 70. Not the fastest vehicle in acceleration but adequate for a family vehicle. Very stable in turns at expressway speeds. Change your tires which we just recently did from the original Continentals. New Goodyears are a huge improvement. This is a great family vehicle that is good on long trips. Ford hit a homerun again. These are cheap buys on the used market.

Drive the Car about 3000 miles per year, the vehicle has 18000 took it into the dealer because of a noise comming from the tranmision the same day the the engine light came up. After the dealer diagnosys, the car need new cylinder #5 new valves new head and a new Torque conveter for the tranmission about $5100.00 dollars later no word from Ford since the vehicle is out of warranty of course after the first 3 years called everyone at ford to try to get some type of help, no response I've had 5 fords in my life time, this is the last one I will ever owned, they lost me as a customer.

Replaced brakes prematurely twice, tires before the first year of ownership was up, driver seat heater is broken, stereo goes out, car is now at dealership saying the CVT will need to be replaced. Buyers beware w/this car! Not worth it. Car is worth less than we currently owe. We are up-side-down with this car and it is no longer driveable. Ford has known about this problem but hasn't recalled or acknowledge it. It is not only a pain financially, it is also a safety issue for drivers and their families.

No problems after 40K miles. Two repairs in the three years we have owned it: oil pump gear for the AWD mechanism, electronic sensor for the transmission went out. This is one of the safest vehicles on the road. I would only say the CVT is a little noisy around town. Acceleration is OK. It is a versatile family car that seats 7 passengers comfortably.

We bought this vehical because we did not want the "stigma" that a mini-van had - mini-van's scream KID-MOBILE - but we wanted the 3rd row seating. It has turned out to have alot of great features I wasn't even looking for. For instance it gets great gas millage, is extreemly comportable to ride in and has great leg room. I've had passangers comment that the second row of seats is more comfortable and roomy that their Chevy Suburban! Very 'sure-footed' on the highway in varried road conditions and VERY nice AWD for those snow difts.

My wife and I kept an eye out for a Freestyle for quite some time and finally found a great deal. The engine is well laid out (designed by Porsche and acquired by Ford-Cosworth). The AWD is taken from Volvos. The continuously-variable transmission (CVT) works remarkably well. Safety features are many, including ABS, traction control, and frontal and side- curtain airbags. The flat-folding seats, including the front passenger's, are extremely convenient. So far it's been reliable. Mileage has varied from 13-17 in the city to 24-26 on the highway while carrying five passengers. We can't wait for the summer!

We bought in Dec 2007. It had only 17000 miles and we have put about 13000 miles on it since then. Have had no problems, other than tire wear. We really like the flexibility and usefulness of the vehicle. Most people don't know what it is, especially if we say Freestyle. But anyone who has ridden with us compliments it. MPG little less than what it states, 18/22. We could do without AWD if it gets us better mpg. Inside materials feel cheap, but haven't broken. Love the "command seating" and heated seats. Great for families because of flexibility to haul people and gear. DVD player wonderful for toddler, but blocks rear view. Will keep for long time, but like the looks of the Flex.

We purchased a 2005 Freestyle new. It is presently broken down at a gas station in CO. My wife barely made it off the road. With less than 50000 miles on it we have had the rear brakes replaced, a throttle body replaced, numerous problems with the rear passenger door seal, gas cap sensor problems. Have owned this car from day one and has proved to be a very functional, practical vehicle. It also has a nice smooth ride and most surprisngly very reliable. Other than normal oil & filter changes, the only thing I've had to replace was the rear brake pads at 25k miles which Ford covered anyway. Just replaced the original Continental ContiTact tires with General Altimax tires which seem to fit well with this car. So overall, no complaints and hope to keep for another 5 years.

Loved my '95 Explorer & was looking for another SUV or Crossover. Just couldn't see myself in a mini-van. Was concerned at 1st about CVT & 1st yr model (I'd had a 1st yr model Chevy lemon years ago). MPG is really good (21 city / 28 highway). Absolutely love this car! Wish Ford had advertised & sold more! The 3rd row seating w/rear storage behind is wonderful. Works like a trunk when hauling small loads of groceries home; or can fold seats flat for the larger monthly Costco runs! I plan to hold onto this one for a long time to come.

Had doubts about first year of new vehicle. Issues in reseach were power and brakes. I've found power is more than adequate for 2 people in vehicle with luggage. Brakes were replaced (pads) at 30k. Gas mileage is as advertised 24 mpg highway. Miss no satellite radio. The storage space is more than adequate. Ford needed to push this vehicle more, would consider the new Taurus X version at trade in time.

Yes, acceleration has some noise, and the road bumps aren't absorbed as nicely as my Explorer, but I just took two long trips, over 1,000mi combined, set the cruise on 57 and get 31.6 mpg. Car is well maintained, clean filters, oil, etc. New Michelins as the Pirellis were loud and awful. I know that I'm not driving a Lexus, so some things are to be expected, but 31.6 makes me accept a few flaws. Near 20 city (never accelerate over 2000 rpm, don't rush to the next red light, etc) and mid 20's overall. Plenty of cargo space, handles very well on tight turns, no sway, holds the road well, has good acceleration, a bit weak when you ask it for more on the highway. A real nice car that's underrated.

I purchased my Freestyle used in 2008 with 32k miles. The CVT is smooth but takes some getting used to. Low end torque is lacking but a wide-open throttle command at highway speed reveals the hidden upper-rpm power. The interior is average but adequate; but not the most comfortable ride for long hauls (400 miles or more). Reliability is another strong point.

I bought a 2005 Freestyle with 23,000 miles. Leather seats are real nice. I read some peoples issues with the CVT trans and the lack of power but I find the power fine loaded up with 6 pass and I average 28 to 29 mpg highway and 24 on country roads. With 4.00 a gal. milage would win over pwr.In Freestlys case it has both. Why Ford is going in 09 to a bigger motor and back to a 6 speed trans to lower milage to 15 to 20 mpg is a mistake. Plus all the seats including the pass seat fold flat to fit all kinds of material in it is a big plus. Family mover, material mover, nice looking, lots of room 29 mpg hwy their is nothing out their that offers so much. Buy a good used one now SEL or Limited

We leased our Freestyle back in 2005 because the CVT worried me. It's now 3 years latter and time to buy or move on. After looking around at other makes, it has become apparent what a great car the Freestyle is. We always liked the car, and after shopping around for a replacement decided to buy out our lease. Even three years later there is no other vehicular the size of the Freestyle that can provide the gas mileage we are getting. With gas prices still around $4.00 a gallon we will be sticking with our 22MPG city , 27 MPG highway FWD Freestyle. The car has been rock solid, very dependable, and great for our trips to Home Depot. Per our mechanic the CVTs have been great.

Purchased this car for functionality, comfort and versatility. 3 yrs and 55K miles later, I have gone through 3 sets of tires, 4 alignment adjustments and 2 new sets of rear disc brakes. (front brakes are fine) Very happy with interior and amenities. Will always have a DVD system now as I loved this one. Ford was thinking of themselves when they built this one as you can only get wiper blades through Ford, and only Pirelli makes the necassary size tire. (not cheap!) Loved the flexibility of the 3rd row option and a great car for road trips. Would like for it to have lived up to the mpg. (average 19 and 22) Extremely disappointed with the resale value. Trading it for a used Lexus SUV.

High points are huge carrying behind front seat. Good interior design. Design interior materials could be higher in the limited model. Also heated mirrors would help in Maine winter. Mpg is exactly as advertised 24 mpg. Highway which is 95% of driving in rural northern Maine.

Start with the positive - it never broke down, ever. We loved the space allotment and flexibility inside and some of the small touches (keypad entry, lots of storage even with the third row seat in use). But the materials inside were total junk. We had the cloth upholstry and even water left a nasty stain. They really could do better. Under the hood there was way too much electrical tape. Finally, the fuel economy wasn't near what was promised and over 3 years Ford never figured out how to improve it. Lots of highway noise, crappy, staticy radio.

When I purchased this thing, I soon realized why Ford is in such a financial slump. People are getting wise and not buying Ford's anymore, I unfortunately was one of the few unwise and bought one. After only 15k, a new transmission was needed which Ford had the nerve to blame the failure on me. I had to take them to court the get it fixed under warranty! 5k after that the fuel pump went, leaving me and my family stranded on the side of the road during a trip (Ford refused to pay for the tow) Later my headlights would not turn on, only highbeams worked, which got me a ticket for driving with highbeams on. After 30k, I needed another new fuel pump, washer fluid pump, CD player stopped working.

This is the 6th Ford we've owned. Loved the others, can't stand this one! There is a new rattle every day, the speakers are shot, and now the engine is making this horrendously loud whine that no one can figure out. They say it may be the alternator - not covered by the powertrain warranty, and costs upwards of $700 to replace! It does have lots of room, handles nicely, and gets decent gas mileage. But I dread getting in it every day because of all the rattling and whining. I would trade it in in a heartbeat except the resale value is pathetic. It's worth about a third of what I paid for it just 2 years ago. Ford, you really disappointed me with this one!

This car is driven in Germany, so immediately it's at a major disadvantage. It's clearly designed for American roads, where I'm sure it's capable and probably very comfortable. However, on European roads it's lacking in acceleration, feels like a tank, doesn't fit into parking spots and feels generally out of its element. It can't keep up with cars that have half as much power on the autobahn, and makes a miserable racket trying. The engine drone under acceleration gets annoying fast. Ours is driven harder than probably any other Freestyle on the road, but it lets us know that it doesn't like it. Minor issues fixed under warranty include brake lights that stayed on and outside temp gauge.

I am a 48 year old male driver who thinks an SUV is overkill. I want a versitile vehicle that can pull a utility trailer for trips to the home improvement store, hold a roof carrier for beach trips, and comfortably take the family of four on a trip and still have room for Grandma. I bought this vehicle out of frustration of not being able to find a mini-van without a DVD-entertainment system but still had stuff like ABS. It has grown on me. Even though it is the base model, this "car" has all the features I wanted, and after driving it for a couple of years, I can say I still like driving it. If I had to replace it right now, I'd probably buy another.

I've run up 62,000 trouble free miles on our '05. This is a good "trip car", with flexible seating/cargo options and highway fuel economy in the mid to upper 20s. Comfortable and quiet. The Freestyle is a bit sluggish from a dead stop, but acceleration is decent after that. We've taken vacations and moved kids to college handily with this vehicle. The disappearing third row seats are easy to use and are not too bad to sit in. The roof rack is pretty stout, a solid platform for a bike rack or rooftop carrier.

I live in the foothills outside Denver Colorado at an elavation of 8600 feet, commuting to Denver. This car is great no matter the driving conditions. I have had to drive thru snow that came up on the hood to get to my house. It gets good gas mileage, drives great and is very comfortable.

I like my vehicle because it has enough room for a group, the mechanisms are easy to use, and I do like the extra cup holders. We did not like the upholsetry. It is so hard to clean. If you spill water, it leaves a wet ring. That has been my biggest frustration.

We enjoy driving this vehicle. It is nicely laid out inside and attractive on the exterior [I really like how it looks}. It has more than enough power on the highway and is a pleasure to drive about town. The ride is smooth and steering tight. We care for an elderly parent and getting her in and out of the vehicle was a major concern. Entry into the vehicle is aided by a well positioned handhold and generous legroom. It is also a good height for her, not to high or to low. The seating is comfortable and the rear third row is accesable with minimal effort. We have had no issues mechaniclly with our Freestyle. The Freestyle is almost unspoken of by Ford. We feel like we got winner

I drove a Volvo wagon for years, thinking it gave us room for our 2.5 kids and a dog on long trips. We were so uncomfortable and the car had no engine power whatsoever, which could be scary at times. We bought a used Freestyle because we wanted a "loaded" car with leather seats, DVD...the sound system is amazing. Best of all, this is the most comfortable car I've ever been in. We can pick up the children's friends without feeling like we're driving an unnecessarily huge vehicle. When idling, sometimes I have thought the engine died because it is so quiet. As for the interior, remember, I drove a Volvo, and the interior was as susceptible to breaking/falling apart as anything.

My family liked our 05 Ford Freestyle for its cargo space and features. There were several safety features we liked too. We were very dissapointed in the performance and gas mileage. We took it in to service yet it still is only getting about 14 mpg! The accessibility could be a bit better like how the third row always gets stuck. It also could use more interior quality. I enjoy driving but I understand why the car doesn't sell very well. I hope Ford improves this car for 2008.

Winter AWD is compromised by the poor OEM tires from Continental, poor to very poor traction in snow, ice, slush, heavy rain. Few tires available in 215x65x17 size and few aftermarket wheels for winter tires. The car is excellent for family use and variety of configurations for many uses. Fuel economy is poor in general use (18-20 mpg) highway constant at 65 mph is a little better at 22-23 mpg. Better tires might help economy.

We have put 40,000 miles on in 2 years. The ride is superb, handling is excellent for a near 4,000 pound vehicle. 2nd row seats actually hold adults comfortably. Very good cargo capacity. The 3.0 liter engine is adequate or better for the job. Rated at 27 hiway/20 city MPG, on a 3900-mile trip from the midwest to New England and back, we averaged 28.2 MPG, including 2- lane mountain roads in Vermont and New Hampshire. It was loaded with 2 weeks of stuff. My wife drives this vehicle daily and at every chance she says she loves it!! The sunroof helps with ventilation.

Would own more Freestyles if it were for the interior. The exterior maintainance problems are terrible. Needed new tires at 11,500 miles, and now again at 23,000. Also needs new back brakes now. Also needs new windshield because it's scratched by current windshield wipers.

24 months in we are very happy with our purchase and find it to be the best value in the market to date. Safe, economical, performs great in any and all situations. Glad we bought FWD instead of AWD to minimize the potential for issues in the future with the extra mechanicals and it helps mileage.

Has been a great vehicle. I find it to be the best balance of value, economy, space, advanced technology, safety, and style avaiable. It is perfect for hauling our child and all of her stuff and when the grandparents come to town it lets us all ride in comfort and safety. Attracted to the sporty look and high reviews on saftely. Husband liked the idea that Volvo chassis was used. Have had a couple recalls, but fixed. Girl rear-ended me causing $2800 worth of damage to rear bumpers and sensors. Car gets 22 mpg around town and have gotten as high as 31 mpg on trips. Easy handling, plenty of room for grandchildren and a large Lab who loves sticking his head out the sunroof. Rear climate control package keeps everyone comfy. I have a problem when traveling in the back seat, but with the theater seating can ride in back and not get sick as a dog from motion.

Our Freestyle has been a bit of a disappointment. I've been a Ford guy for 30 years, but not when it comes to crossover SUV's. With 15mpg in town and 22 highway miles, the fuel economy stinks. The doors sound cheap when you close them and I hate the CVT. On the highway at 70mph the RPM's are way to high for decent fuel economy. And we have to have both rear disc rotor replaced at 10k miles because they wore out and couldn't be turned. Apparently, this is common on the Freestyle and Ford 500. I have 90k on the rotors of a Nissan and only had to turn them once.

I had to have the rear brakes replaced on this vehicle at 20,000 miles. I have also read on other forums where people are having to replace them over and over. Ford will not help with this because brakes are only covered for 12,000 miles. If you do not know, rear brakes should not fail at anywhere close to that mileage level. Original tires are also almost shot at 25,000 miles.

I've owned this for less than two years and I'm negotiating a trade-in for an Acura MDX. This car is a great idea, but poorly designed/engineered. Some of my issues include: Seatbelts that constantly tangle (I've had it into the dealer numerous times), rear brakes that were worn out at 20k miles (dealers were notified about issues, but NOT consumers!), various electrical issues, and a dealer/manufacturer that doesn't stand behind their products. I'm tired of the dealers telling me that "it's a design issue that we're aware of, but Ford is not doing anything about it." Rather than fix the problem, they charge me to repair it!

At 17,000 miles rear brake pads started to make grooves in rotors with brake wearing uneven. From what I'm told the problem is with the brake pads. Ford will not recognize the problem.

I have 2 children, and I also drive long distances for work. The Freestyle gets great gas mileage compared to other SUVs, and with the folding 3rd row seat, I have room for friends and additional family. It's a roomy, comfortable ride. The only uncertainty I still have is the new CVT. It's not a typical shift, so I thought something was wrong with the transmission. I took it in to be checked, and was told that's the way this new transmission is supposed to work.

Ford came up with an awesome design but they don't have the reliability to support it. I loved my Freestyle initially but after struggling with a number of issues including the door locks (finally fixed under recall), my heated seat going out (no longer under warranty - they wanted $500 to fix it), transmission problems (surging that would not go away and Ford service could never find on the computer) and leaking front seals I finally traded it off for a Buick. I took a beating financially but the transmission was a real concern so I wanted to get rid of it before I had to do major repair work. Bottom line? Great car but I think I got one of the lemons. Not worth $30K!

With over 43,000 miles, our Freestyle has been extremely reliable and well mannered. It can easily accommodate 6 adults with keep them all comfortable with room to spare! The seats are comfortable it has an excellent heating/AC system. The powerful factory six disc (cd & MP3s) quite simply, rocks! The seats are very comfortable on long trips and if you can keep it under 60mph you can even knock down 30mpg (24+mpg at 75mph). The Volvo chassis is VERY tight but the suspension is forgiving on rough roads. It handles curves with authority (no tip over warnings on the visors). Auto rags have criticized its performance, but the CVT affords an 8 second 0-60 with 200hp - OUTSTANDING!

Overall, I love the versatility of the Freestyle. Although, for a $50K vehicle, I am not pleased with having to take it in for service once a month on average. Trouble with leaking lift gate and sun roof. Trouble with door latches last winter (doors will not close) and again this winter because dealership didn't feel need to replace ALL latches under recall. Trouble with brake cables rubbing and heating up (finally fixed) and groaning in front end on tight turns (apparently fixed). Still determining if my real problem is the car or the service at dealership (could we fix it right the FIRST time?).

Bought this car used,18 months/30,000 miles 49,000km), so some factory warranty remains. It is fully loaded with all the features on a Limited AWD model. The vehicle has 6 separate bucket seats. Lots of room. Good head clearance. Easy entry front and back. Very comfortable ride. Lots of room in the 3rd pair of seats, which fold down easily when not in use. For cargo, all the seats (except driver) fold down. Holds the road very well, no "Van-sway". Seamless acceleration with the CVT, but a different sound than the usual. Interior is very nicely laid out. Above average sound system. For families who want a Big Wagon that easily seats 6 instead of an SUV, this car is great. Nice winter drive too.

My wife has medical problems that made entering and exiting her Taurus a problem. Explorer sat too tall. Pilot was too bulky. Pilot was too expensive. Pacifica was ok, but no deals. We liked the Freestyle with the first test drive. The local dealer ran an ad showing 8 Freestyle Limiteds for the same very good price. We also got 0 percent financing. The fold down seats have been great allowing us to carry 25 to 30 entries to flower shows all over Washington. Mileage has been as high as 26. Lowest maybe 16. Adjustable seats with 2 presets work great for wife. Major snow and ice this week and the Freestyle with Pirelli's performed flawlessly. We are very happy with the CVT and the car.

We've hauled just about everything in our Freestyle and never had any issues with power. Perhaps that's due to our driving styles, but generally we've found it to be more than adequate during highway merges, even with 7 adults in the car and all their stuff. Then again, we're not expecting to run the a/c full-tilt, have the car packed full, and have top speed immediately available.

This is the best highway driving vehicle I have ever owned. I also am averaging 26 mpg on the highway. The AWD really makes winter driving safe and also during rainy conditions. I have not had one problem with this vehicle, I am very pleased with it.

I bought this Freestyle back in March. It was a demo model and it had 12,000 miles on it. Mostly I bought it for the gas mileage it gets compared to what we used to have (Dodge Durango). I really wanted a wagon, but this is as close as I could get to a full sized wagon. Turned out to be a great choice, and the trips to Home Depot are a cinch with all the fold down seats. The car gets about 20 MPG around town and 25 - 26 on the highway. Not bad for a car this size. The car has been 100% reliable and has only had to return to the dealer for routine service. I'm glad to hear Ford decided to keep this vehicle around for 2007 and beyond.

I have owned this vehicle for about a year, and the only problem I have noticed is the lack of power, especially on hills and inclines. The comfort of driving in this vehicle is great for our family of 4 and gives us plenty of room. It is easier to climb in and out of than a SUV or minivan. The 3rd row can be clumsy to get to, especially for adults if needed but no more so than other 6-9 passenger vehicles.

As a "Volvo only" car buyer I was reluctant to buy a Ford. This car has been great (I got 7 seats, leather, split 3rd row seat) and I still rave about it. This car fit all my requirements: no minivan, no SUV, good gas mileage, seats 7, fits the canoe, fits the tandem, easy to get in and out of...this car has it all! I personally find it to be fine in power on the highway, much better than the Volvo we had and we've towed a lot. This summer we loaded an 18 ft. canoe, 4 people, one large dog, a Thule box and camping gear for a week and it all fit comfortably. The gas mileage is great and I drive a lot in the city. I hope this car last 10 years 'cause we're keeping it.

In one year, 6 weeks in the shop. Transmission valve, EGR, main computer, rear brakes (twice in 50K miles). Couple that with Ford's poor service and you have a very angry and disappointed customer. In right now for the second set of brakes, called in advance to check, yes, they have the rotors. Show up at 7:25 for a 7:30 appointment. Their service driver doesn't start till 8:00 then he didn't finish his breakfast till 8:15. Then they called me at 9:15 to tell me they really don't have the rotors. They have had my car for days at a time for warranty repairs and tell me they can take me to a car rental place. Never ever again will a blue oval sit in my driveway. Absolute junk.

Having tried SUVs and wagons before the Freestyle, I must say that I/we have found the perfect car for our family of 4. Great trunk space (even with 3rd row up), excellent comfort, handling, safety features and overall a very decent look (not your usual soccer mom van). My kids love it, my wife as well. We traveled across country with it once and had ample time to enjoy the ride. It is a terrific car. Regarding the reliability factor, I had a small problem with the AC compressor which was noisy but my local dealer fixed it under warranty. We have never owned anything but Japanese cars before and we are crossing our fingers with our first Ford!

I have really enjoyed driving this car. It maneuvers well and has plenty of room for my family of five. We have really enjoyed the great gas mileage. We get lots of comments about it, people ask what it is and say they like it, or they say they haven't seen one before. Some people say the pickup is not that great, but it has plenty of power to me. We did have a couple of minor problems that required a trip to the service department, but they were quickly repaired. Overall my Freestyle has been a great car, and I would reccomend it to anyone.

Great vehicle. Gas mileage is incredible for a large vehicle that it is (4,000 lbs). I get 27 MPG all the time in 20% city / 80% highway driving. Traction control works great on ice/snow. Everybody says it can use more horsepower, but experts have timed it at 8.3 seconds to 60 mph -- not bad. The CVT transmission is a dream, nothing but smooth and continuous, especially nice up/down hills. Try to get this package in any other vehicle, as even smaller Subaru's get worse or the same gas mileage and they don't carry near as much. And the crash rating is great.

Leased an early 2005, Jan 2005. Now have 20,000 miles. Car has been perfect. Only recall was the gas tank straps. Extended trip this spring from N MI to S FL resulted in an average mileage of 25 mpg driving 75 mph average. We get 20 mpg in town like clockwork. CVT has worked like a charm. AWD is awesome in the winter, as good or better than my 4x4 F150 Lariat. We will be leasing another in Jan 07. The dealers can't find used ones. No one is letting this car go.

I have leased the Freestyle for 2 years and have really enjoyed it and had few problems - even though we leased it in its first year of production. I'm considering getting a second one. My husband, who likes Cadillac comfort, even likes the ride - and he hates SUVs. He thinks it is a solid/safe ride. Our elderly parents who are not in the best of health have been transported easily and comfortably. The height of the seat is just right for easy entrance and exit for them. No hopping up into the seat. And transporting walkers and wheelchairs was no problem. I recommend the Freestyle to anyone who asks about it.

This is a very stylish vehicle and everywhere I go people comment on the style and the lines of the vehicle. However, as good looking that the vehicle is, the handling characteristics are awful. On the highway, this vehicle just drifts from side to side and if you're not careful and look away from the road, you could find yourself drifting into another lane as fast as you can blink. When you correct for the drifting, it then overcompensates and you find yourself drifting in the opposite direction. Trying to keep this vehicle on the road in a straight direction for just a few seconds or so, is almost impossible.

I had a Ford Expedition prior to the Freestyle. I have 3 children ages 5, 4 & 1 so I needed something with plenty of room and a 3rd seat to split the boys up (4 & 5 year old). My Expedition was a gas hog and I was doing good to get 12 mpg. When gas got up to $3 a gallon it was close to $90 to fill up. I noticed the Freestyles were rated 20-27mpg and was still 7 passenger. I love it. It even has a ton more room behind the 3rd seat with it up than my Expedition did. I am a young mom so I did not want a minivan. NO offense to others but it is not my style at all! As you see on my fav features you never realize the small things until you've had a car that has things that drive you crazy.

As a two time Taurus wagon owner, I can honestly say that I love my Freestyle. Thanks Ford for coming up with a great crossover vehicle. I just couldn't see myself in another wagon or minivan. The Freestyle was sporty enough to catch my eye. The only glitches that I have found are: gas cap keeps unthreading from holder, driver auto down window just stopped working and rear tire well is peeling inside. Wish I had gotten leather seats, tan interior is filthy from use. Overall, it's a great car.

Have put more than 40,000 miles on my 2005 Freestyle. It is comfortable, versatile and convenient. I have averaged more than 22 mpg in combined driving. The CVT is impressive -- good response and performance. I have not experienced the lethargy that some reviewers have complained of. It will run as fast as you want and passes well on the highway. Reliability has been excellent -- nothing beyond routine maintenance. Insurance is reasonable and overall I would describe this vehicle as excellent. For the money and the utility it doesn't get any better. You can pick nits that the plastics could be better (but wait -- I paid$25K for this -- not $40k) but the vehicle is great.

Excellent vehicle in this class. Competent in many different roles and more fun to drive than we expected it to be. Very good handling (18 inch wheels and Pirelli tires) and brakes. Very comfortable and roomy. Mileage better than book - 20-26 mpg. Terrific a/c system, but wish for a pure fresh air vent system.

Trouble 35 days after purchase. Poor MPG, not as advertised, transmission leaked & completely went out, repaired, a/c unrepairable, vehicle surge (dangerous), front steering went out, could not turn left. Brakes recalled and replaced at 7500 miles, body not attached to the frame properly, computer malfunctions, wiper fell off, emblem fell off. 14 service calls in 1 year. Vehicle looks good, but has huge glare front windshield, dashboard red KLM cannot be read in daylight, dash board lights intermittent. In a tunnel lights goes out when they should light up. Always opposite of normal function. BBB Auto Line investigation. Would not advise anyone to purchase a Freestyle.

We bought this Freestyle Limited the first week they came out and could not be happier. With 2 toddlers, the full canopy air bag safety features, AWD, and the DVD player are just what we needed to make trips more enjoyable. As a Pro Cyclist, my race bikes travel in style on top of my Freestyle when equipped with a Thule Bike Rack that uses the factory Ford roof rails. It not only looks like a Euro car, it drives and handles like one as well. 2 thumbs up to Ford and Volvo for collaborating on this excellent design.

I suppose I may be a typical purchaser for this vehicle ... family guy, kids, dog, and a desire for a fun car but have bowed to practicality. For what this truck/car/SUV/CUV is, it's fine. Drives well, feels safe, returns pretty respectable mileage considering its size (21 city/metro and 25-27 highway). I have not had it back to the dealer for anything. Everything works and runs great. Some of my low marks are for below-par plastic finish, and a lack-luster driving experience, though it is competent. Most drivers will not be as sensitive as I am to some of these nuances. It really is a good car and is very safe. Great family hauler.

Our car really provides the best of both worlds for my wife and me. We are either carrying numerous passengers or large items. It provides great flexibility with all of the seat configurations of the 2nd and 3rd rows. We have comfortably carried up to 7 passengers. Even the 3rd row has good leg room. We have driven over 17,000 miles with no problems. Our gas mileage has been just about as rated. Certainly, we have seen the extreme lows of 17 mpg when driving strictly "stop and go". However, we have also experienced around 30 mpg on numerous of occasions of straight highway driving. So, our average has been approximately 22 mpg. The CVT is smooth, and the AWD tracking is great.

I love driving my Freestyle. It drives like a larger car but doesn't have the truck feel. We just moved our daughter using it and it fit a lot of her things, including our grandson's toddler bed. It had a recall and that was taken care of without a problem by a dealer other than where we bought it.

I've driven the Ford Freestyle AWD SE model for 6 months now. I originally was looking for a small truck with a rear seat. I looked at the Ranger and with two young daughters that are still growing, I had an epiphany. I could only think of a few occasions that the truck would really be practical. Having come from driving a Jeep Cherokee and Toyota Tacoma4WD and Saab sedans I knew what all the different types of vehicles had to offer, first hand. Other than giving up the gas mileage of my Saab, I've come to appreciate the roominess of the Freestyle even when, just last weekend I had me, my wife and two daughters, and three girlfriends, all were seated comfortably. I'm happy with it.

Over the first 12 months, the car had no mechanical issues. A lot of the interior trim had to be refastened and for a $30K auto that's a little cheap. Probably average 23MPG. Wide open interior make it great for kids and trips, more comfortable than the Explorer. BUT after 1 year things started to go wrong. Issues with brakes, traction control, oxygen sensor. Has been in for unscheduled service 4 times in the last 4 months. Left us sitting on the highway once, almost crashed when traction control went out. And...the CD changer stinks. I would NOT recommend buying this vehicle, at least not a 2005. Unless you want to buy mine.

Overall experience has been great. I have had the car for over a year. I have gone on two family vacations and I have not wanted for more cargo room or passenger room yet. The ride is smooth, and the level of amenities you get for the price is tremendous. The engine compartment needs a little help in the form of a stronger engine, but overall very satisfying for an everyday family vehicle.

This car has definitely met my needs. Originally, I was looking for a car with a roomy enough interior (for our growing family), not too wide of a body (easy to park) and flexible enough to fit 7 adults comfortably. One of the most important things I wanted is that I did not want to feel as if I was driving a huge truck and I did not like the feel of minivans. I did my research and felt that this was the car for me. It has not had any mechanical problems so far and I've owned it for 1 1/2 years. I like the smoothness of the CVT. Overall, I absolutely love my car!

I have never had so much fun driving! This car is simply amazing. The Continuously Variable Transmission is fantastic. No gears to shift through, so you get a completely smooth ride up and down the speedo. This is the first vehicle I've had that caters not just to me, but also to my family. The Freestyle is simply the best in breed - hands down. EPA estimates were 19/27. I am seeing an average of 22/30 with my AWD SEL.

We have owned the Freestyle for 6 months and love the gas mileage; 22 in town and 29 highway. We have gotten as much as 36 mpg at 55 miles per hour. The leather seats are great and very comfortable. Love the air conditiong system, the CD player/radio and speaker system. The backseats fold down flat and we have hauled furniture, lumber, plants etc. from the DIYS stores. You have to get used to the CVS transmission, but it is great for the gas mileage. Great legroom in the backseat and the controls for A/C in the backseat are great for the kids or other adults.

I studied this car for 8 months. The style caught my eye, it's sleek and much larger inside than it appears to be outside. I had an Explorer and was tired of the low gas mileage and slowing down through curves on the expressway. Yes, I know it was a truck and that's how I drove it. I love the CVT transmission,so smooth! I am getting about 4-5 more mpg than with my other car. The seating is extremely comfortable, there are almost no blind spots, the windshield is big. Touring in this car is wonderful. The ride is smooth and as you increase the speed it's amazing to me that all of a sudden you're cruising at 70mph. I have received many compliments. Folks need to know about this!

I live driving at a higher seat level. I can carry my electric scooter in the rear area of the car. I like the idea of having four air bags. I like very much not feeling the gears shift; continuous drive. There is ample power when it comes time to pass another vehicle. The power drivers seat is a good option. I haven't used the two fold-a-way seats in the rear, but it is good to know they are there. On the whole, I am very pleased with my purchase of this vehicle.

I really enjoy my Ford Freestyle. It is very sharp and comfortable to drive. It definitely has plenty of room with its creative design. However, I am having some battery or electrical problems. If I do not drive it within 13 or more hours the car will not have enough juice to turn over and the dash board and gadgets go crazy. After a jump the car will turn over and run fine. The dealer has replaced the factory radio. After a month the same problem is happening again. Now they have replaced the battery. I hope that this will do the trick.

We love the look of the Freestyle and are quite pleased with the handling in snow and rain. However, our Freestyle will go in the shop for the second time this year. First time we took it in for repairs the transmission went out at 5000 miles. We were assured that the flaw was corrected when a faulty valve was replaced. We drove it another 20,000 miles and now IF it starts it won't stay running. This problem began about 200 miles ago and is only intermittent which makes it difficult to diagnose. I am hoping against hope that the problem is related to the fuel filter or injectors. I really want to love this vehicle but it has to be more reliable. We are in the market for an extended warranty!

All I can say is I love my Freestyle. We are in the construction business and so it is great when I have to load up the car with anything from paint to 2x4's. We also need to haul our daughter & her friends everywhere. It hold 7 easily and they actually love to ride in the very back seats. The DVD player is great for those long trips. We have taken several trips and we get 27mph on most trips. We live in the mountains and it gets 19mph most weeks but 17mph if I am going to work up on the mountain.

This is a smart, capable vehicle, very versatile for family use. Ford’s thinking is smart on this one, create a station wagon with the styling and comfort attributes of an SUV without the ride, handling, and gas mileage penalties. Offered as a 6 and 7 seater, we choose the 7 for our family of 5; this allows our kids to sit three across and use the luggage space, or take a couple of friends along. The 3rd row seat is one of the most useful available in the market, better than some in far larger vehicles. Pleasant to drive, it gets compliments from everyone that rides in it. Gas mileage has been 17 city & 24 highway, low compared to the EPA figures, but much better than our V-8 SUV at 13/17.

My wife and I love our Ford Freestyle. Can't figure out the poor reviews in Consumer Reports. No problems after 6k; The car drives smoothly and is wonderful to get in and out of. I like the CVT, I can see out easily and the seats (leather) are supportive and comfortable. I love the rear folding seats and the huge amount of storage space available in the back. It is ridiculous how much space there is back there. The Freestyle is a dream in the snow and ice, it doesn't even know there are bad conditions. You can literally drive normally and have no worries at all. Does not get the mileage claimed (we are at 17mpg in town and maybe 22 on the highway in the AWD SEL model).
