This is the most dependable care I've ever owned. Its only been I the shop once for a transmission issue at about 230,000 miles and it cost $1200 to fix it. I'd still be driving it if a tree didn't jump in front of it.

I bought my five hundred with 98xxx miles. Now have135xxx replaced brakes only once, alternator, and motor mount. Been very reliable and gets amazing gas mileage. Made it from maryland to Michigan on 1 tank.....515mi.....amazing. Fit everything for a beach vacation in the trunk for 4 people. Only downside is some fixes are expensive from repair shops(alternator). I would absolutely recommend this car to anybody!

I bought this car in 2013 with 175k for 5k. I haven't had to fix a thing. Runs perfect and very comfy ride. Zero rust. Weak in the power but I don't care. I drive a lot for work so I just need a reliable car with a great ride. This car is perfect for that.

The car never gave us to many problem. They do have problem areas, headlight socket over heat, air compressor are weak. Engine strut support break easy. The big problem is the instrument panel. A problem Ford, and the NTSA knows about. The problem is weak solder joints. Ours went out, Total cost for parts and labor 1300, A third of the value of the car.

I purchased my 07 FFH SEL in April of 2012 with 33,000mi on it, and I have noticed that the tranni slips when I accelerate from a complete stop, or from 1-2mph. But not all the time. Most of the time it's a nice ride. I have to treat her like a baby. And now at 54,000mi they are telling me I need to replace the brakes. I just got this car less than a year ago! I had to sell my F150, because someone hit me from behind and sheered back the steal back bumper. So I got rid of it . But it was a beautiful truck, except I had to replace the transmission at around 95,000-98,000mi. on that one. I have read that ford overall has had tranni problems though. I should have known to check the FH.

I purchased my 2005 Ford Five Hundred SE in the fall of 2009 with 100,000 miles on it and currently have 170,000 after 3 years. The car has tremendous interior cabin space, and it has been a reliable car. I did stay away from the CVT transmission on purpose because of the problems reported by many. You don't realize how quiet and smooth the ride is until you test-drive something else. My wife and I are looking for another vehicle and find many fuel efficient cars (camry, civic, etc..) to be noisy and you give up a lot of comfort. I think I am going to find another used Ford Five hundred for her around $5,000-6,000. Great car

I hit 110,000 this week and figured I would sing some praises after reading some of the other issues. 1st, the "downside." This car goes through the brakes. My dealer said that Volvo's are known for their safety; with that comes hard wear on the brake pads. Yes, this has the Volvo engine in it. I'm on my 5th set of pads and 2nd set of rotors. I started noticing a little bucking in drive-thru line s and traffic jams ... always when the AC is on. Otherwise, no issues whatsoever and this has been my favorite car ever. I'm not a fan of the new Taurus, but I do love the Ford Edge. I continue to have great experiences with my Fords ... TAKE CARE OF THEM and they will do the same for you too.

This car has been dependable and almost bullet proof. Will likely drive to 225K miles or more. Transmission - I have the CVT transmission and service every 60K miles as per schedule. No issues at all. Local dealer shared stories of failed CVTs, but poor/late or no service led to problems/failure. Dealer has some fleet cars approaching 300K without CVT issues. Brakes - The weakest system on the car, IMHO. Replaced brakes at 18K (warranty) and 32K. Recall took care of rear brakes. Went to aftermarket brakes and rotors and harder compounds. Longer life, but poorer performance. Currently getting about 65K on brake sets. Ride - Original suspension.

bought with less than 30,000 miles. pervious owner had great record keeping on maintenance. Almost immediately started noticing weird things with transmission. It is very hazardous. Had a few close calls with car not speeding up when turning onto roads. It is mainly acceleration problems. Would not buy this or Taurus model in the future. Probably not any ford model. Ran into other owners with exact problem same problem.

Nuff said about that. I did research AFTER I bought the car. Had I realized the transmission failures were so common on the 05 I never would have bought it. I didn't realize this was the first year for the CVT. I believe that is why the 500 was moved to the Taraus nameplate. Ford told me to pound sand. Paid $4200 for new transmission. At least I got a 3 year, 100,000 mile warranty with it. Last Ford for me.

Now that this car has almost 50k miles on it, I'm hearing rattles and clunks on all but the smoothest roads. When I drive through parking lots, the car bucks a bit. There are large paint chips where there shouldn't be. I even think my gas mileage is suffering (never mind the mpg rating for this car is generous to begin with). A shame it's turning out this way, because when I bought it I felt I was driving a car worth twice what I paid.

I bought in the spring for a road trip with my brother and our wives.Plenty of room and economy was good. Above 30 MPG on the western planes going plenty fast. Had one warranty issue, transmission shifting hard and erratic. Also had a recall on back brakes. Now with 90k am having loud suspension knocks when on rough pavement. I do like and will look to upgrade to the new Taurus next year

In looking at the other reviews I must have gotten the best of the bunch. Aside from the initial rear brake problem, this car has been great. The transmission has worked flawlessly and the ride is fantastic. To fix the brake problem I went to my local parts store and purchased another brand of brakes and they have not had to be changed as frequently as before and work great! Can't say enough about the car. I would buy another but not for the $30,000.00+ price tag.

This is a great family car and daily driver. Much more personality than an Asian appliance car. Maintenance was easy and low cost, and interior fit and finish are good. The rear brakes had issues with pad life but Wagner Thermoquiet fixed that. I like the CVT, took some getting used to, and with regular fluid changes, at 100K miles I have no issues.

I bought this car with just under 35k miles on it. The car just hit 68k miles and I had to replace the transmission already. I've heard from the transmission repair shop the the Ford five hundreds are having this problem. I contacted Ford and they said they wouldn't do anything about it and to simply take it to my "local Ford dealership repair shop" and they could fix it for me. Yeah they could fix it, at the tune of $1700.00. It's funny how we support an American company that won't even back up there product when there is clearly a wide spread problem with the transmission on this car. I am now looking to buy a Toyota or Honda!

I bought my Ford 500 brand new from the showroom floor. I love the fact that I got the 5 year bumper to bumper warranty on it. What ever minor things went wrong. Ford authorized repair fixed it free of charge. Now that my warranty is up, I bought the extended 3 year warranty which covers over 500 components from the engine & transmission to the radio. Love my car. I wish they had made a 2010 version of it. Love the fact also that there aren't many on the road that I see and I'm always asked " What kind of car is that?" Overall performance in my opinion for my Ford 500 is just about a 10. Love it....Love it...Love it !!!

I go though a lot of cars with my job. This is my first Ford since 1979 and I really like this car. Now I'm driving 220 miles a day and it is very comfortable. I have 135,000 miles on it. Never had to do anything to it, expect tires, oil, brakes. No belts or spark plugs ever changed. These car were built on the volvo chassis. I don't buy into people saying it is under powered. I have the speeding tickets to prove them wrong. It will 90 to 100 mph all day long and still get 27 mpg.

I have been eyeing the 500 sedan for years. I recently purchase a previous experienced Limited 500 with low miles at a great price. I've read all the car magazine reviews and all have said that the 500 lacks engine horses. It's true the 500 isn't a stop light drag racer but put the hammer down and hang on! I've been able to slice and dice alot of unaware BMW, Mercedes and Nissan drivers. Turn off the Traction Control and the 500 will four wheel drift nicely. In sleeper mode the car's ride and comfort is just super. The heated front seats are really nice on those cold morning commutes. All in all a very nice ride.

for starters i bought this car brand new, and instantly had issues till its demise. i experienced the wonderful brake drag issue, the so called auto up window game (which is awesome in negative temperatures), the battery constantly lost its charge, replace battery, and repeat, ford never figured it out. then one day the a/c stopped. which in arizona summers is not really that neccessary (haha) they threw parts at it until they replaced everything, and then viola, it worked, and they never knew what did it. running synthetic oil only i had the most beautiful tapping sound under the hood, which was a tsb, but for refused to address. out of all the tsb's for the car 2 got fixed.

Bought new in 2006, love it. Am so glad I did not buy another Toyota Avalon, which had expensive 3.0V6 engine problems over and over. Ford was much better bargain in purchase price and maintenance. Now it has 48,000 miles, so far, not one problem. I average 25.2-MPG driving mainly California freeway. Nobody knows what it is. Everywhere I go people comment how cool it looks which is funny, because all the magazine reviewers slammed is "boring" styling. This was a terrific buy I would recommend to anyone.

The car was a dealer demo but with only 1,600 miles on it when purchased it was basically new. I love the fact that it is a 5 star safety rated sedan. I get 26mph on the hwy and 22 around town. The Continuously Variable Transmission once you know how it works is great. Get to speed and let off the gas a little and the RPM's fall giving you the added fuel economy for such a large sedan. It looks good, is very comfortable to drive and the trunk is large enough to carry luggage for a family of four on a weeks vacation. I have 54,000 miles with no trouble except two turn signal lights. I recommend this car two everyone who is looking for a family sedan and would buy it again.

Press had lower reviews for power and styling of this car, but I like it. The Limited version looks very nice from all angles. Body is solid. You can tell the door and panel structure is well engineered (doesn't have that paper thin feeling). The power is fine for me as I don't view it as a sports car. Interior is very clean looking (no unnecessary clutter on dash or console). This car is an excellent choice for taller people like myself. This is the first car I have owned where my knees are not hitting the dash even with the seat all the way back. Plenty of headroom as well.

You sure Ford made this?

This car is to be left stock. Bigger wheels slows it down. It handles well with the stock 215 60 17 but for a great upgrade you can go to a 235 55 17 without altering your odometer and making an amazing difference in conering(they are cheaper too). The factory radio is very blah but a local circuit city can add a rca converter, an amp kit with a small sub with enclosure for less than 300.00 and you got the bass fill the factory 5x7s do not pick up(do not waste your money on new door speakers). As for the motor its an off the line slug but the six speed is a champ on the freeway. Take your time and get 30 plus mpg on the freeway. And last tint your windows to help the big beasts car lines!

Our 2005 Five Hundred has been an exceptional vehicle. We've driven it to Florida from New York and had it at 29.5 mpg on the trip. A full tankful gave us over 600 miles of driving. The same is true on our semi-annual drives to Virginia to see family. No stops for fuel for a 520 mile trip is refreshing. Our overal mpg is 25-26 during our daily driving. It's a smooth ride and the roominess inside and in the cargo area are unequalled. I've purchased 32 cars in the past 37 years for the family and myself and this one is definitely the best purchase, by far.

I bought his car to replace my '01 Mercury Sable LS Premium and have not been let down yet. It is far roomier and the trunk space is amazing! I have a 2 year old and can easily fit 2 strollers, high chair and our bags in the trunk when we visit my parents. It has all the amenities the Sable had, plus a few extras such as the in-dash CD changer, dual climate control and heated seats (just to name a few). This is a great family car and I would eagerly recommend one to anybody who asked.

Purchased for wife new. Car is underpowered, power steering is unsually stiff. I drove others and the steering is the same, stiff. Takes more effort to turn. Transmission went out at 37000 miles, heated seats stopped working twice shortly after purchase, repaired under warranty. Stopped working again past warranty, still don't work. Front wheel bearing went out at 39000, air conditioner quit at 71000, rear brakes and rotors replaced under recall, engine extremely noisy when down shifting/acelerating to pass on highway. Also had to replace bulbs in front fog lamps and rear tail lights.

Before purchasing this vehicle, we owned an '01 Mercury Sable LS Premium sedan. My Sable was a great car and had all the amenities for someone new the owning a sedan. My Sable was starting to act its age (it had 107,000 miles on it at trade-in), so it was time to find a suitable replacement. We bought the 500 used, but it definitely didn't look to be used. The previous owner this vehicle very well and it seems practically new. Even though I've only had it less than a week, and I do miss my Sable, this is a more than suitable replacement. It offers plenty of room for all us (I have a toddler with a large car seat), handles well and is just a great overall car.

I love my Five Hundred. I bought it used at a rent a car place with approx 20000 miles. I now have 32000 on it and it's at the Ford shop waiting for a new engine. Thankfully Ford honored my warranty since I had records of oil changes. Who knows why the engine went bad. Probably someone drove it like a rental.

I get a lot of compliments on it. I recommend it to anyone who wants lots of room and a great ride with style. Gets decent gas mileage 19 to 21 mpg in city and 27 to 29 on highway.

Excellent looking and handling ride at a terrific value. Lots of extras for the money. A few minor design issues will be worked out with subsequent year models or in the Taurus. The car's size and executive design made it very comfortable and it had a cavernous trunk. Despite its size, it handled like a much smaller car with tight handling and confident handling, great suspension and grip, while having just enough power to have some fun. The economy wasn't bad. I would like to see the rear fender redesigned so not to catch stones with it's leading edge. Else, it's a great all around ride. I'll miss it.

I am so glad I decided to by my Five Hundred. It has been the perfect car for me. After 65,000 miles it is still running strong with no mechanical problems whats so ever. Nothing has gone wrong and I'm now glad I didn't get the exteneded warranty. I consistantly get 22-24 mpg and the awd not only saved me this winter but got me out of the mud at a concert when a bunch of other sedans got stuck in a muddy field! I have every intention of running this vehicle until it rolls over and dies, but it's going to be a long time from now.

Bought car for only 11k and worth every penny. I am sure this car was abused before I bought it and it still holds up very well as my commuter. Its big and brawny like a st bernard but without the teeth. If power and performance is what you are after your a fool to be looking at this car. But if you have a commute and you dont want lower back pain with very respectable freeway mileage this car is a winner. A trunk for the gotti family and a back seat for the prom date of your dreams this big beast is a regular unleaded running winner. Fyi my weekend toy is an 04 E55 thats a big reason I dont look to this car for any performance satisfaction.

This vehicle dosn't have the power of my 02 Sel Taurus, you would think having the same motor this car would fly like the Taurus. The 3.0 Duratec in my Taurus would give you whiplash, but not my Five Hundred. The inteior isn't as roomy either, but I'll get use to it. If your tall don't get a Five Hundred without adjustable pedals, the seats don't go back far. I do like the message center, it can be convienent. The Audiophile stereo is better than The Mach that was in the Taurus. It handles pretty good, It has better tires than the Taurus (Continental's) which don't last very long. This car is new for me, bought it used, it's loaded and I'm sure in due time I'll own an 08 Taurus Limited.

Our family has owned many ford products but this one is a great disappointment. This car has been at a Ford dealership since June. The transmission went and Ford wants $5500 -$6500.00 to put in a new transmission that comes from China. Ford will not help in anyway. The looks beautiful but is not drivable. My daughter and I could have been killed on the turnpike because the car slipped into neutral when you tried to get above 50mph. Greatly disappointed with Ford.

Our first experience was a trip to Houston, got a rental car,a brand new 2005 Ford 500 which we have never heard of. We drove it over 400 miles in a few days and was very excited about the smoothest of ride and the space we had (a daughter-in-law and her two kids, my wife and I) all fit extremely well in this car. First time we have had that since one of my old 60's or 70's cars. We owned a 2002 Taurus SEL at the time. After we got home and had about a month to think about it, we decided we just had to have that car, so we went to see our friend at the dealership to make us a deal. We wanted exactly the same care we had rented. Extremely pleased.

Third Ford that I have owned - step up from the Taurus. Now Ford plans to name this the Taurus due to lack of name recognition for 2008. Best car to have if you have a family. Higher off the ground that most sedans and consistently rates as one of the safest vehicles in a front and side collison. Gas mileage is acceptable, I have over 80,000 miles on my 2005. Live in MD and work in PA - 75 miles one way - average 28 mpg highway - have to love cruise control.

The brakes are pretty good. Overall the car is really quiet, it's safe, and it fun to drive. The larger style mirrors provide excellent visibility. I would def purchase again.

Since purchase it has been in the shop for bubble in dash storage, one recall, and all 4 wheel covers replaced for peeling clear coat. All replaced under warranty. 30,000 miles the rear brakes were worn out but front were fine. Nothing major that would stop me from purchasing another 500. Gas mileage, comfort, and style all great. In the 30+ years I have owned cars, this is my first Ford and I love it. My 3 middle schoolers have more room in the back seat than Mom's Park Avenue. It handles very well, the CVT transmission is excellent. I am 6'2 and have plenty of room. More ponies would be nice, but it still gets up and goes! We like it so much, we are selling the wifes Buick and will purchase another 500, going with the Limited this time! For the money, it is a wonderful car. It rides well, handles great, lots of room and zooms down the road. I have always owned GM, so this is kind of tough for me!

I've had my Five Hundred since March of 2006 and find it to be one of the best cars I've ever owned. No problems since the day it left the dealership. On the open road I get 28MPG and combined it usually get between 21-25MPG. While the car is a pleasure to drive, I would like to see a little more style to it. Ford has a problem with making all these cars look the same. A good example is the Five Hundred/Taurus will have the same look from the front as the Fusion. With all the stylist Ford has, I would think they could of come with with a different look.

We purchased our Five Hundred in July 06 with 6000 miles. On our first trip I noticed a bad vibration during braking going down hills. I contacted the dealer and they said that a factory brake kit was needed to fix the problem. The kit consisted of new discs and pads. Now after approximately 16,000 miles after the replacement, the rear brake pads were shot and needed to be replaced for $200. I contacted Ford and they will not admit that there is a problem with the brake design. I've also had to have the gauge cluster replaced. I thought Ford finally had a "Better Idea". I guess I was wrong.

We have had our SEL FWD for 14 months now and have driven it about 12000 miles. We have three cars, so this one isn't driven every day, but we are always sure to take this one when we go on longer trips because it is very comfortable and gets good mileage. When cruising on the freeway, this car is quiet and smooth, but the engine is a little bit noisy under brisk acceleration. The 6-speed transmission behaves well and helps the somewhat underpowered 3.0L engine performs as well as it possibly can. The car has been very reliable so far, but I have had to take it to the shop for rear suspension noise (brake cable grommet) and to have a new dash storage compartment lid installed (bubbles).

I was delighted to see Ford come up with a car that is roomy, comfortable and versatile. The first day of delivery I spotted 4 defects, 3 trims and 1 paint. The first year, I noticed that the climate control is performing erratically then the front brakes had to be replaced because the hardware fell off! Also, the instrument panel blistered from the sun. The second year, the rear doors weather stripping fell off, both sides. The front doors don't lock below 20 deg F (recall) and the starter mechanism started acting up. Also, the front drive bearings are noisy. As they say, never buy a first year car. Wait until they work the bugs out!

I love my 2005 Ford 500 and have had nothing but great things to say about it until now. I take it in to the shop every 3,000 miles or so for servicing to include tire rotation, brake check, etc. I took it in at 20,227 miles only to be informed that my rear brakes and rotors were shot and needed to be replaced. Another 2005 Ford 500 was in the shop the same day and that owner was told the same thing about their car. 3000 miles ago my brakes were good. From what I've been able to find out, this brake problem seems to be a not-so-uncommon story with the 2005 Ford 500. Anyone who has had this problem should contact Ford Motor Company.

My biggest complaint is the brakes had to be replaced at 30,000 miles at at cost of almost $400. I was not happy. One minor recall to date and the dash is bubbling a little. This car has been driven from Michigan to Florida with absolutely no problems. Very comfortable in the rear seat for my two children. Enjoy the space and comfort but the brakes have been replaced twice, even though the I have had the car for 21 months and it has only 11,400 miles as of 11/24/06. The dealer tells me it is a continuing problem on the Five Hundred and Freestyle, which apparently has the same braking system. The computer system failed at 5000 miles and had to be towed in to have the software downloaded again. I have also had an annoying squeak in the rear suspension system since I bought it and the dealer hasn't been able to fix it for more than a few days at a time. The brakes are just now starting to wear. Only problem has been sealant around windshield (had to replace), and the power lock sticking on one of the rear doors. As for the horsepower issue, I find that the car gives me what I need when I want it. You won't beat anyone off the line, but its power on the interstate will surprise you. Also, the handling is great. Love the visibility and ease of controls, especially on the steering wheel.

Now have 24000 miles on car. Front suspension fixed 3 time with no permanent repair in sight. Rear suspension replaced. Air conditioner fixed but auto heat /air does not work properly and is a continual annoyance. This is a good example of why Ford is in trouble. There is a TSB on the front and rear suspension.

We live part time in Pittsburgh PA and winter in Spring Hill FL. The vehicle has been outstanding in ride and fuel economy; 28-30 on the Interstate. The only fault is too much road noise. We can pack it like a pickup due to the large trunk and the fold down seats. We see many other vehicles advertised but there are too many good points in the 500, especially the ability to have good visibility all around. It is an excellent over the road car. I now have 19,300 miles on it and will be taking a trip to Chicago in August, a round trip to Florida in September and a one way to Florida in November. Our '99 Cadillac will be sitting it out.

Great all around car, especially for the family. Comfort is more than adequate, trunk is huge and styling is nice. Horribly underpowered and the standard (SEL) sound system stinks. If I had it to do over again, I'd look at Nissan Maxima or Volvo S80.

Luxurious...every comfort I every wanted and some I didn't know existed (power brake pedals, height adjustable, speed sensitive volume - who knew!). I love this car and everyone asks me, what kind of car is this? Very nice and worth more than the price...but don't tell Ford that!

I drive 100 miles a day to and from work and cannot say enough good things about this car. It rides great. The continuously variable transmission is very smooth. There is enough room for 4 adults to sit comfortably. The stereo system is awesome. My co-workers are always commenting on what an impressive car this is. The Limited edition has all the bells and whistles you'll ever need. Most of all, the five star safety rating provides ease of mind you're looking for when hauling the kids around.

A good family car.

I run this sedan back and forth between Northern Alabama and Northern New Jersey several times each month... that's a 12 hour drive. At 75-80 mph it runs at 28 mpg. The seats are both firm and comfortable. The trunk is huge. Dealers in Alabama and New Jersey have been great about service. At 50k miles, I have had absolutely no trouble whatsoever.

Just bought the car used with 15,000km on the clock. Bought it for the safety, space, comfort and reasonable economy. Learned later it's not so safe on side impacts without the side airbags, which contradicts the brochure. Took a short road trip and found it very comfortable, with good economy of 8.2L/100km. It looks sharp and the interior is nicely laid out. It's very comfortable with lots of room. Relaxing and easy to drive around the city when driven at a reasonable pace due to the 6 speed. Good turning circle and steering weight is spot on. The heating controls are a tad low though and fiddly to use when driving. Compartment lid bubbling on dash as per TSB. Handles like a smaller car.

Many reviews have dunned the 500 for the Euro-styling and adequate power. What few mention is the largest in U.S. trunk and excellent fuel economy. The 21 cubic foot trunk shames the Avalon with only 14 and the ability to get 25MPG real-world on regular grade gasoline keeps me glad I made the purchase. On the down side, I wish the nav system had been available in '05 and there is a bit of wind noise around the A-pillars.

Purchased this car as upgrade from '04 Honda Accord. Enamored with build quality, ride, handling, space. Ford did a GREAT job on this one! Only problem thus far is a peeling dash storage door, which is covered under warranty. Sound system is okay, but easily upgradeable and navigation is an option now available at the dealer. All in all, great car.

The Ford Five Hundred drives and feels like a European car. We bought it because the frame is higher than most American cars, making it easier for my disabled husband to get in and out. The gas mileage is sufficient to keep me satisfied. Since most of my driving is around town, trips of one mile or less, the mileage has never reached the advertised mark, but I understand why this is and am not dissatisfied with it. Having owned the car one year, I can state that we haven't found the first thing wrong with it. This is the first auto we have ever been able to make this statement about.

The car handles well at any speed and during all weather conditions. This is a luxury car but not at a luxury price. The space that it offers is great as rear seat passengers always enjoy comfort. I find that it is good on gas and that is a plus in this current economy, also great if you have to do a lot of shopping, the trunk is huge!. Highly recommended.

I have owned the car for 6 weeks, 3800 miles. Average 25 mpg with a 60/40 city/highway mix of travel. Acceleration off the line is average, but where the CVT really shines is highway passing-instant torque puts you where you want to be. Car handles high speed very well. Interior nicely fits my 6'3" frame, trunk would bring a smile to a made man's face. Fit and finish very good. Very happy with the purchase, like it better now than when I first drove it.

This has been a nice car to drive. Only problem I have is the large rear view mirrors. I am small and they tend to block vision when turning corners, but the gas and brake pedal adjustment is great for me. My husband loves it as it is so easy to get into and out of as he has knee replacements. Lots of room and plenty of storage bins all over the car. Trunk very roomy. Only wish it had a trunk release that lifted the trunk lid up by itself. It is a little heavy for me to lift up. Interior is really attractive - ours is leather.

Purchased NEW March 28 2005 and it is now April 12 2006. The car has 4000 miles on it and is sitting unlicensed and unsafe to drive. Entire back end suspension and brakes have been replaced. Some items more than once. Last brake fix turned rotors down to 1/1000 over minimum. Tried to invoke Colorado Lemon Law, but Ford has arbitration clauses which precludes using legal remedy. You must use their designated arbitration service run by Ford Autoline (BBB subsidiary in Washington DC). This process is a sham and I still have the new car sitting unused. Ford Corporate Office tells me they are done fixing this car, which has 4000 miles on it and a 3 year warranty. Ford stonewalls certified letters.

I drive the Ford Five Hundred only and it's a lease but it's going to be MINE. This is the sweetest car I've ever had and I've had many including other Fords, but nothing stands up to this. I have 15 grand kids and they love to drive my car. They say they love the style and comfort. And they have many makes and models between them. This is the car for me. When I drive I go on 900 mile trips and my husband is so relaxed in our car and he has a bad back and knees so you can see were the comfort is. Oh yeah, it was a Mother's Day gift from my husband. He has always been a Chevy man but we both own Fords. He has the 2004 350 dually and loves it. We tell everyone about our car and truck.

Seat belt on, I had no cuts or bruises (all glass was broken out). I have a hurt shoulder and a fractured neck, had to be cut out of car. If had been in another car, I would have been dead. We got our car Christmas of 2004 and ever since then, we've been fixing it bit by bit. Right off the bat we had to have the CD player and trunk mechanism replaced. Also, noticed a problem with accelerating from a rolling stop. That was a computer problem they didn't end up fixing until Christmas 2005. Also, got a dash bubble. That was replaced. Then the reverse sensing and memory seats went out. Now they've been replaced. We have had enough however Ford will not replace our car. It doesn't quite fall under the lemon laws and they won't do what is ethically right and give us a replacement. We don't know what next will go wrong with the car.

I have the 500 Limited AWD. This car is all 'round goodness. Black exterior. Black interior. Little over 5K miles and the more I drive it the more I love it. I have had soooo many people tell me how sharp this car looks. I'm 6'3 and I actually have room in this car to breathe/move. Adjustable pedals & seat with memory. Great for after my wife drives & I go to get in, all I have to do is hit the button and not even fiddle with it or worse yet, get jammed between the steering wheel and seat trying to move it back! AWD is great in the snow. No problem getting up our driveway anymore. Such a smooth ride. After you train it - it has great get-up & go. Stereo rocks! One of the best cars I've ever owned!

Even though I had very good service from my foreign cars, I wanted to give the American cars a chance. I purchased my Ford 500 based on good reviews and after a few weeks I noticed that I was losing several quarts of oil. I have the receipts for the oil. My dealer told me to bring in the vehicle. I did and after several days, a new engine was put in the car. After a few days this engine started giving me problems. I took it in and found that the engine was not put together in correctly. It was repaired in a day. In both cases I had to insist on work order that proved I had a problem with the car. The second time I was told I could not have a work order, so they typed a memo.

This is my wife's car, and she is happier than I am. I'm 6'2", 275# and I find the seat lacks back support on long drives. My major problems are the transmission and the brake/gas pedals. We got the 6 speed with FWD for the mileage. I'm used to being able to use engine braking by using a lower gear in my car. This is not an option with the Five Hundred. We had some very hot brakes coming back down from the mountains. With my size 13 feet, I find the pedals too close together both laterally and vertically. With the spongy feel of the brakes, I've found myself pushing down on both pedals at the same time at stop lights. I was thinking about the Freestyle for me, but not with these problems.

The Ford Five Hundred fills a small, but important niche in the sedan market - the "big man's" sedan. In an era of rising gas prices and shrinking budgets, the Ford Five Hundred nicely meets the needs of those of us who are large framed. Unlike its many counterparts in the large sedan sector, the Five Hundred is actually comfortable, allowing for easy entrance/egress as well as ample head, leg, and seat room. Yet, it is not an SUV, which seems to be the only other alternative for those of us who prefer not to feel like we are in a middle seat on a commercial airline when we are puttering about town or commuting to and from work.

The Bad: Our white 500 had massive problems with areas of the car not being painted (primer showing through) and with paint runs/defects. Lower front bumper, door jams, inside trunk areas etc. It also had problems with the sheet metal along the rear door seams and rear quarter panel being deformed. There's also the issue of the notorious heat bubble that shows up on the center dashboard console that Ford will not currently fix due to a "pending solution." Next you have the gas tank strap recall that is also pending. The Good: The fuel mileage and cruising range are very good for a car of this size. Achieved 550+ miles on highway trips from the 20 gallon tank. Transmission is impressive.

We got the Limited awd in black, with tan leather interior really a sharp looking car. I love to keep it clean, a real head turner! Makes me feel like I'm 18 again.

I love the Ford Five Hundred so much that I bought two of them. This car has everything I want and need. My Five Hundreds are fully loaded AWD Limiteds with CVT. It moves off the line not like my old SHOs did but fast enough and gets up to the speed limit right now. At 110 KPM (Canada) auto A/C on the mileage was 9.1 L/100k or about 32 mpg. Around town it is about 11.1 L/100 k. I only have 5879 kilometers on my car now and it has only been back to the dealer once - for its 5000 k oil change. This is a first for me; two brand new cars and not having to go to the dealer for any reason at all. I love taking people for a ride and can not believe the CVT does not shift; it is so smooth.

I bought my 500 in May 2005. I previously owned a Lincoln Town Car and was looking for a car to retire with. The size of the 500 was just right and its price didn't take much of a bite. After my initial test drive I was sold. The fit and finish of this car was as good as any I had seen. The CVT transmission is one of the smoothest I have ever experienced. Granted the interior leaves a bit to be desired but the economy and performance is right on. I have read some reviews that said it was under-powered. I don't find this so. The 50 to 80 passing speeds are so quick that you hardly realize that you have achieved 80 when passing. With my six months with the 500 I have had no problems.

While on my way to purchase a new Altima, I thought I'd stop by the Ford dealer close by. After one drive sitting higher up off the road I did not even go back to the Nissan dealership. Easy to get in and out of. I've had customers tell me they thought I was driving a Mercedes. While the power is average, in 90%+ of normal driving it is just fine. Averages close to 27 MPG on highway, and the room is GREAT. All in all a car worth the $$.

Surprised and pleased is an understatement. The only complaint is the hum at lower speed from the CVT transmission. Above 45 though you can't hear it. So called fancy clock is poorly designed. It could be a classy addition but is difficult to read.

My husband and I were in the market for 2 new vehicles. He purchased his 2nd Explorer. I really had my heart set on a Chrysler 300. However being a "Ford Family," I had the salesman write up another Ford vehicle for myself. Just before signing the papers, I thought I would walk through the car lot one last time to be sure. As I walked out the door my eyes glanced at a car that I had not seen previously. It was the Ford 500. I had never heard of a Ford 500. Immediately I rushed into the sales office and insisted that I test drive the car. I was hooked! Great car! It was extremely important that I get a car large enough for my 14 year old son who is 6 foot 2 to ride in comfortably.

Spent 3 solid months researching vehicles and settled upon Audi A6 or Volvo S60 but chose the 500 based upon its safety factor and roominess in both interior and trunk. Surprised by smooth driving, shifting and overall ride which I felt was comparable to those of European design -- in fact, it's almost of that style in the front but the back end is not that attractive. Excellent gas mileage, average of 22.8 - 28.9. Did not choose AWD because I live in So. CA. Nice feature though.

After 5 years with an SUV which I hated, I tested a Camry XLE and a Maxima, which were my dream cars. I was so disappointed with them both. So I went back to my Ford dealer to try the Five Hundred and I was wowed. I just picked it up 2 days ago and I can't wait to run errands. I've got the Limited AWD, and all these bells and whistles will be so convenient. I will report back in a few months, and I hope that I have as many good things to say as I have read here already on this site. I just don't understand why Ford wasn't advertising this vehicle more aggressively.

What's not to like? The car is roomy, the ride is very smooth, the steering is quick and I get 29 mpg with regular gas. As for performance, I traded a Lincoln LS Sport V6 and the Five Hundred feels just as quick. I like the looks of the car, especially from the side but my gray SE interior is kind of plain compared to my friend's much more expensive Five Hundred Limited. People that get in my car are amazed at the rear seat room. My car has the CVT transmission and I've always seen 28 - 29 mpg in the 4,000 mile that I've driven the car (usually 65 mph or more with the A/C on).

At 6'5" I can fit into usual competitors (Impala, Charger...), but a full-size person could not fit in the back seat of other cars behind me. Back seat in this car makes you feel you're driving in a limo. Raised seats keep legs/back from cramping during long rides. EXTREMELY comfortable. Only car where I don't feel in a hurry to get out of car. Agile. Acceleration in town good thanks to gearing. You'll hear engine entering freeway, but runs smooth and very quiet at highway speeds (75 mph) allows you to enjoy radio. Wind noise nearly non-existent, road noise reasonable. Suspension/ride perfect -- absorbs bumps well but feels nimble. Friends will want to take your car.

Being new parents, we were attracted to this model for really three reasons; safety, reliability, and the roomy interior. The high roofline really is nice when loading the baby in and out of the back seat. In July, we took a 9-hour car trip through the mountains and it was impressive. I don't understand the "lack of power" issue this car climbed those hill effortlessly. I think many are thrown off by the smooth transmission and mistake that for a lack of power. It doesn't feel like you are travelig that fast, then you glance down at the speedometer and say whoa. This is a great vehicle and we are so impressed that when we replace our other vehicle, we'll be replacing it with a Freestyle.

I have 2000 miles on my SE with CVT. I like the CVT a lot. Contrary to some reviews, I do not find the car under powered. I like sitting higher although the price for this might be less agility in parking ramps. Very comfortable highway car. Gas mileage first tank in mixed driving was 20.5 mgp. A lot of car for the price. At $8000 less than the Toyota Avelon a good deal.

I fell in love with the Limited back in April and nothing else in this class would do. This is my first Ford after many Honda's. While the exterior may appear somewhat "average", I assure you that the interior is not. It's a pretty car, enormous trunk, great family car with style. I purchased a red with beige leather interior. It rides high, which feels safe. The surround airbags are a great safety feature. It's just a pretty car and I smile whenever I drive it!

Within the first 600 miles the transmission had to be replaced. In order to fix it they put on an additional 123 miles; said had to road test it ... the cd was replaced 3 times. The seats don't work (still), am driving much too far back. Loud noises in the undercarriage. Oil light keeps going on and Ford's people are totally uncooperative. Car been at the dealer 3 weeks in the three months I owned it. As I wait for the parts to come in, I can only wonder what disaster will happen next!

The "Command Seating" and interior room gives me the view and comfort of a much larger sedan. Yet the dimensions, styling and performance handles like a much smaller vehicle. The Homelink visor is convenient. Steering wheel mounted controls became second nature on the first day. No need to take my hands off the wheel to change the radio station or set cruise control. At 5'3" I found with most vehicles I sit too close to the steering wheel for my comfort. This is not a problem in the Five Hundred. That and the adjustable pedals allow me even more room. With the FWD and traction control there was no slippage of wheels in bad weather. That and I love how it's styling turns heads.

I just purchased a new '05 500 SE AWD a little over a week ago. I feel I received an excellent deal and was pleased with the buying experience. The car rides so smoothly and I love the interior. Many have had negative comments about the fake carbon fiber trim, but I find it attractive ... much better looking than the fake wood. The car is so roomy and I enjoy the high seating! All wheel drive is definitely an added plus! Didn't need leather, sunroof or foglamps, so I couldn't justify choosing a higher trim. The SE comes standard with so much as it is, including power driver's seat. I recommend this car for anyone looking for a well made sedan with an attractive price tag.

My wife and I both love this vehicle. We first were looking at trucks and they had a Five Hundred in stock. We test drove it and fell in love with the comfort, the horsepower and the room it has. It has more leg room than our Windstar. Our three kids would rather ride in the car than the van. As far as power I wouldn't want to get on it on gravel. Luxury without the price. Overall a good car - It has a lot of features that I didn't expect for the price of the car. The "lack" of power is over-hyped. I found the power more than adequate for the size of the automobile. I test drove a Mercedes C240 V6 and it seemed to have less power then the Five Hundred. I believe it's automobile writers personal preference than actual performance. I would recommend this car - but please read suggested Improvements).

However, we felt that we got the most value for the money with the Five Hundred. This car has loads of space, is very comfortable, has excellent safety ratings, decent styling, and good mileage. On top of that, the dealership was very decent to work with. My wife and I are happy customers.

I wanted to treat this car with kid gloves. However driving in the DFW metroplex in rush hour traffic doesn't allow for such. She's handled everything with grace, style, speed, and accurate performance. The additional driving height gives me a much better view of traffic in front of me even if it's a tall vehicle such as an SUV or pickup. The steering wheel mounted controls were 2nd nature after just a couple of hours. Unlike some of the competitive vehicles I can easily see out the rear window for going in reverse. The A/C system cools down the car fast and keeps it cool. Corners great. Accelerates smoothly. Comfortable seats front and back. Conveniently located cup holders. Love everything.

We pulled 28 mpg and a low of 18 in stop and go (the 405 in LA stinks) with the A/C on most of the time. I had the window tinted in LA (35%) and that made the comfort in side even better. My teen age kid had no problem with some of the I5 drive back. This is a nice family car. The car now has 4500 miles on it.

Like the overall appearance of the car; some factory defects on the back passenger doors ( looks like someone dinged the door). The power is adequate. The CVT transmission is smooooth. The interior is nicely laid out with comfortable seats (have driven over 400 miles in one sitting). The stereo system is fine. 26mpg highway and 21 city. Road noise is minimal in the Limited. Compared to the other cars I have driven (Audi, BMW, Acura, MDX) there is no clear advantage or disadvantage. The car is solidly built and for the price paid (~$4.5k less than sticker), reasonably priced for the market. For a family man with three active children it has good cabin space compared to other sedans.

No problems with 1,300 miles on the clock. Everything about this vehicle says solid. Rear seat is as comfortable as it gets in anything short of a limo. Fold down front seat allows me to carry lumber with the trunk closed that would stick out of a lot of truck beds. It's easy to drive it and some say it's underpowered, but I have never had my foot to floor asking for more. The CVT allows all 203HP to be on tap on demand. Message center provides spot-on mileage estimates. My fill ups have been within .1 gal of what the computer says I've used. Handles like a smaller car.

After looking at a Volvo S80 and the new TL, decided to testdrive the 500. As comfortable, stable and optioned (with what I'd want) as either at $10K less. First 1000 miles produced 20 mpg city and high 20s highway.Very comfortable for long drive, great sound system and CVT creates smoothest drive experience ever. Criticisms of power without basis. More than enough for PA hills; never need to reach 60 in 6-7 seconds. Love the info module and the system checks. Returned with rear seats down to carry as much as I could have in a small SUV. Overall, I've never felt more certain about a car purchase. Ford should advertise this car more - a loaded Limited is clearly a winner and a great touring car!

I'm constantly receiving compliments on my 500's sophisticated styling and classic/ traditional look. I like the 500 best in black, with the black interior. It feels just as cozy and comfortable as other luxury cars that I have been in. The ride is almost butter smooth on the freeway. I've often found myself cruising at 80 mph, and didn't know i was driving that fast. It really is a tremendous value, because a top-of the line 500 runs thousands less than its comparably equipped competition cars.

I have been very impressed with the Five Hundred. This car has tight handling like a sports car and rides like a much larger and more expensive car. Gas mileage is respectable 19.2 mpg local driving with air conditioning on. I don't understand why Ford is keeping this such a secret.

After months of researching what kind of vehicle to purchase, I decided on the Ford Five Hundred FWD Limited. I am a professional driver and have driven everything from Audi's to VWs. I had rented the Chrysler 300 and was leaning toward that vehicle, but after getting into the Five Hundred I was convinced that it was the car for me. The cockpit is very similar to the high end European cars. So close to the Mercedes S class that its almost impossible to tell the difference. On the road the Five Hundred met almost all of my expectations. The cabin is quiet and there is no exterior wind or road noise. The only thing Ford could have done better is the sound system. It's ok but not great.

Thanks, Ford!

Purchased the 500 more for the roominess. Traveled from NY to AZ and it was awesome. Extremely comfortable and rides very well. Enjoy the kind of sportiness it has and the way that it handles with the rack and pinion steering. I also enjoy just riding around town. The interior to me has a rich look with the simulated wood grain and the gear shift in the console.

This vehicle is the perfect vehicle for me. Safety, functionality, stylish, and made in America. I was getting ready to buy either a Accord or Camry when I saw an advertisement for the new Five Hundred. This was the car that I REALLY wanted. The build quality on this car is excellent. I have had no problems nor have I found any quirks that I didn't pick up on during the test drive. I generally drive alone but on the weekends it's large enough for my young family of five. I am just waiting for this winter to get a feel for the AWD portion. Why anyone would complain about a lack of power is beyond me, it has more than enough power even for my heavy foot when I'm late for work in the morning.

I became a Ford customer with my 1986 Taurus company car. That car was a breakthrough for Ford. The new Five Hundred is another breakthrough vehicle. It combines the best of American values with engineering from around the world. We've had 3 Duratec V6 Tauruses; what a fun and reliable engine. The new ZF 6 speed transmission is smooth and responsive. Good work, Ford!

One test drive was all it took. Within a week we found our color and options - and were driving it. We had 3 good snow storms (over 4 inches) - handled & drove as well as our former '02 explorer. The room, ride and comfort feel comparable or exceed my father-in-law's '03 Seville. We have had four adults and a child in a car seat and everyone still had plenty of room. Only "negative" is - be careful with the speed - it likes to go - FAST.

I have had my car for about three months and have been pleasantly surprised by this car. It out-handles and has a more comfortable ride than my Infiniti I30T that I had before. The room (interior and trunk) is wonderful. Everyone who rides in the car leaves positively impressed. I am running mid-grade gas and the performance is more than good enough unless your interest is flooring it and being pressed back in your seat. I seem to notice a more positive "carving" feel to turns with it but I am not sure if that is the AWD kicking in or not. Turn stereo treble and bass up nearly all the way to get best sound.

The Ford 500 was quite a surprise on the test drive. The fuel mileage and room was the initial attractiveness but the tight, smooth feel with luxury comfort was the real selling point. The car rides and drives like a dream, giving the feel of a much more expensive car. Kudos to the seats in the Limited for comfort. Coming out of an Eddie Bauer Expedition was difficult to consider at first but even the wife now loves the car. We get stopped frequently at the grocery and gas stations with people asking questions about the car, even valet parking attendants give positive feedback on the car. We love it!

My Ford Five-Hundred Limited has a spacious interior and a very smooth ride. The command seating gives me the feeling of having an advantage over drivers who are seated closer to the ground in other cars. I'm finding that my mileage is hovering around the low estimate of 19mpg in the city, but on the open road it gets well into the estimated 29mpg range. Curves are handled deftly and the interior "noise" is less than I've experienced with other Fords. I feel there is great value in my car considering its relatively low price and so far I'm quite pleased with it. Reverse sensors & front and side airbags increase my confidence regarding the safety of the vehicle.

We just purchased this vehicle so this may be too soon to rate it. However, this is a useful new car owner impression. We were sold on the safety ratings we read and what the dealer showed us. At 6'3" 195lbs i really appreciate its roominess both in the front and back seats. The trunk is incredibly big. Yet in spite of all this room, the car doesn't look that big. It is also easy to get in and out of as the seat is at just the right level. Driving home from the dealer on two lane country roads the mileage showed 30 mpg. It rides extremely well. It handles great. I had to swerve to avoid a car that pulled out of a driveway and it responded great.

At 4400 miles the front transaxle seals failed. They have had my 500 in the shop for four days. I brought it home for one weekend and had to return on Monday as the seals were leaking again. I am extremely disappointed that I bought a new model in its first year of production. I've been given every excuse possible as to why they can't fix it. If it happens again I'm going to the Lemon Laws. Also 16 miles per gallon is terrible.

I bought this car because of all the hype concerning its release and because I've been a loyal Ford Customer for 12 years and 4 cars later. I spent $30,000.00 for this new car and the transmission blew up at the 1,300 mile mark. They replaced the transmission but the car still has no power and never did. It hesitates when you step on the gas. Ford say that's normal with their new six speed transmission. I feel so taken in by Ford. They underpowered this car in an effort to keep the price tag down and I'm sorry I ever purchased their lemon car.

I have had nothing less than a great experience so far. I have even had people come up to me and ask me all about it. I've even had people, when stopped at a stop light pull up along side me & wave to get my attention. I open the window and they say wow is that the new Ford? I thought it was a Mercedes until I got closer and saw the Ford emblem. My car is the Merlot Metallic Red with Pebble leather interior and the controls on the steering wheel make it easier to change different things. Love It!

The back seat has more than enough room for a large or tall person, and the trunk is very spacious. The handling of the car impressed me. Traded in a 4 cylinder Camry. Quality is every bit as good. A comparably equipped Camry would cost $4000 more. Now have 1200 miles on it with no problems to date. This cannot be said for the Camrys, Accords or Nissans I have owned during the past 6 years. Bought this car for comfort and was not disappointed. The fuel mileage is much better than anticipated. It does better than mileage posted. Just as good as my old Camry. Ergonomics are excellent. Ford really did their homework here. Handling is better than the Camry, particularly when cornering. Transmission is flawless and is well matched to the engine. Could use a little more low end torque as long as fuel mileage not affected.

We had been looking into this class of car for almost 3 months and had decided on the Ford 500, for looks, size and style. We are over 50 and the ease of getting in and out of the car was a blessing. The safety features, solid frame, crumble zones, hood fire blanket and interior trunk release were a pleasant surprise but they overall package was a joy. The handling, the brakes, the visibility are exceptional. The look and feel of luxury matched up with practicality is a good concept Ford should expand on. We had a Taurus that had 157,000 miles on it when we traded for the 500 and if it gives us the service the Taurus did, no one will miss hearing our praises.

We recently bought this car and have put on our 1st 1000 miles. Averaging 27 MPG, really comfortable. High seating, sturdy Volvo chassis, comfortable ride, tight steering radius, huge interior space and good looks make it a worthy buy. Don't pay sticker price! We bought the SE base model for $19k (sticker is like $22,400) by taking an Internet offer in hand from another dealership to them. Performance is better than expected. 6 cylinder automatic transmission does a decent job of finding the right gear and getting you moving. Not a sports car, and it can lag getting onto highways or off the line, but it has everything you need when passing and regular driving.

Its beautiful, everyone looks! The ride is wonderful. If I had to say anything negative at all it would probably just have a little to do with the materials of the interior doors. I've seen it on 6 of 8 new Five Hundreds on the sales lot at the dealership. I've had mine replaced 3 times in as many months. I've also had to have the transmission fixed after only 5,000 miles. Took it out on the highway after a heavy snow fall and below zero. This car went where I pointed it over icy conditions and was forgiving. Five months later I still love it. A bonus: I am spending much less on gas and to date have averaged 23 mpg. A good, solid, safe vehicle.

I have now had this car for 7 months, and I have some more thoughts on this car that may be helpful. I still agree with many of my other positive feelings associated with the car, but I have become disenchanted with a few items. The engine is sluggish; it needs more pep. But the aspect that aggravates me the most is the poor gas mileage. I average 20 miles/gallon. This may be good for some consumers, but I came from a car that was averaging 28, and with our gas prices today, this is a big turn around.

My new car is a home away from home. The leather seats are so soft and durable. I don't feel like I am in a car but on my luxury sofa at home. My work takes me to many offices throughout the day so my car needs to be efficient and comfortable. I am confident that my car will keep me safe in all weather. The traction and controls are superb. Having the options on the steering wheel makes my travel more enjoyable. The airbag in the passengers seat will turn off if the weight is under 80 pounds. .Enjoy the CVT smooth ride. This is the best purchase I have made. I would highly recommend this car to everyone.

I recently traded in my Mercury Monterey minivan for the Ford 500. (est drove 4 other cars before buying). Was skeptical at first but I love it more with each day. It is fun to drive, the kids have plenty of room in the back seat and the trunk is HUGE (can fit the kids bikes in the there)! It is also affordable and GREAT on gas. Also, cheaper to insure that the minivan. No complaints here. I would recommend this car to anyone.

I've enjoyed my 500 very much! I travel 150-200 miles a day. The comfort and ride are excellent. I intended on purchasing a Mustang but due to limited back seat space (I have 2 children - 13 and 6), I really needed more room. Salesman suggested I look at the 500. I fell in love when I sat in the vehicle. I am VERY satisfied with my purchase. Window tinting and a spoiler give it a nice sporty look.

A real disappointment inside. Front seats are very uncomfortable. We did a six hour drive with two stops; both of our lower backs were sore. The seats are hard and don't support your lower back correctly. Driver side seat is not in alignment with the steering wheel. Drivers side has no room to extend left leg, passenger side has same problem - can't extend right leg because the front wheel wells are in the way. Very uncomfortable to drive any distance with your legs bent all the time. CVT transmission noisy, has outside wind noise over 50 mph like window open. Steering problems, rear doors at bottom by rear wheel wells paint chipping. Traded in a 2000 Ford Taurus. That was a better car than this 500.

From the first time I saw a picture of the Ford 500, I wanted to learn more about it. I have always been a Ford owner, and at the the time drove a '97 Ford Mustang GT, and before that, a '93 Ford Probe, so I was a sports car, speed and muscle car person. The 500 is the first four door car I have ever owned. It has been a joy to drive. I love everything about it.The performance; the gas milage is wonderful; the exterior and interior are as luxurious as my friend's new BMW, and the ride is more comfortable than his BMW (he admits this). I also enjoy the admiring looks and remarks from others. My family thinks I should make a commercial.

I ordered this car as a company vehicle, and my first test drive was on the way home from the dealership. I am very impressed with this vehicle. It is well designed, and the fit and finish are excellent. The base SE model is very nicely equipped, and at a very affordable $22K price. I do appreciate the ride height and the ease of entry and exit. The car is very responsive, and the 6 speed transmission provides excellent gearing, combined with more than adequate power. Styling is similar to a $60K sedan, at less than half the price. I believe a Five Hundred belongs in every American driveway. This car has very nice styling and ergonomics. The SE performance with 6 speed is "adequately brisk".

I searched for a new car for over 6 months, researching websites and magazines. I then proceeded to test drive a variety of hybrids. While driving the Ford Escape Hybrid (which I had planned to buy) I was deeply disappointed. And there on the showroom floor was a new vehicle, the Ford 500. As a lark I asked to drive it too. I immediately fell in love with it! I had grown up with full sized Cadillacs and a Ford Thunderbird. The 500 gave me all the luxury that I was used to and a price I could afford. I never would have considered a regular sized sedan, but this vehicle truly raises the sedan to a new level. It has no comparison yet on the market. I absolutely love it!

I have had at least 15 people stop and ask about the car. Some even asked at stop lights. Others have asked to look inside. I have never said no. My wife and I are extremely pleased with the ride and height of the car. There are many features that would have cost extra on other makes and models. The message board is extremely accurate. When it states that I have used so many gallons of gas, it is accurate to the tenth when I fill up at the gas pump. Gas mileage is also accurate to withing a tenth of the mile. My city driving mpg is over 23+ mpg. This is backed up by dividing miles by gallons used. I have not done much highway driving yet, so I do not know if the top end is accurate.

We've had the car for just over a month and have been quite pleased with its handling and comfort. All the extra features make the car fun to drive on long trips with 4 people and it handles great in the snow and rain. We had hoped for better MPG in the city, but highway mileage is appropriate for a car of its size (or even smaller). The higher seating puts it at a very nice, neutral level (no getting up out of a car or down out of a truck) and the seats are very comfortable.

Driving this car is a pleasure. The steering and handling are very good. The seating is high so old foggies like me can enter and exit the car easily. The interior panels are easy to read. However the clock is set too low and hard to find. The trunk is big. Going on a trip we don't have to plan how to fit everthing in. The head room is high. I can wear my hat and not hit the roof with my head. The gas mileage is excellent in the city and on a trip.

It has a smooth ride, and I love the layout. I get looks from folks everywhere asking what kind of car I have, and they're surprised it's a Ford. You have to see this one for yourself. Don't believe the negatives without checking it out. Do believe the positives, this baby is one fine car. Ok, so they get a lot of HP out of a small displacement engine by winding it up and downshifting a bit much, but the performance you need is there when you need it. A lot of thought went into this car; it's a well balanced design. It handles like a dream and rides like a heavier car than its curb weight might lead you to believe. And last but not least, that higher seat postion is wonderful!

Very nice car. Lots of legroom front & rear & trunk room . The car rides really good & is quiet. I would recommend this car to anyone. It's a good value. The car really needs more power & I am not getting close to the gas mileage that was on the window sticker. The radio scan feature on the steering wheel needs to scan the pre-set stations, not the entire band width so you don't have to take your hands from the wheel. And the radio controls should be on the left side of the steering wheel & cruise on the right side. The sales rep told me the car had a Sirius radio option. According to the parts department this turned out to be untrue.

Very pleased with the overall appearance and quality of the new Ford 500. The vehicle currently is getting 19.3 mpg in city driving. I recently drove a 300 mile trip and averaged 25.6 mpg. A very solid heavy car; there seems to be adequate power with the CVT transmission. The 203 hp V-6 is quiet and very refined. The brakes are great with large rotors. I especially enjoy the feel of the car behind the drivers seat. The new system Ford calls "Command Seating" is very nice, vision through the windows is perfect. Leather is of good quality, and the numerous comfort convienences are very nice. Heated seats, 6 airbags, fog lights and so much more make the car appear so much more costly.

I tried out the 500 and was amazed that not only did I fit in this sedan, but I was comfortable and normal-human-sized people actually fit behind me too! The Ford 500 is one terrific automobile. The AWD handles snow and ice with aplomb and the CVT is a real treat, though it did whistle slightly for the first 1,500 miles. I give very high marks for comfort in front or back and I am over six feet. The sound system is excellent, but the six disc in-dash CD, as with most implementations, is awkward and slow. Overall, I would recommend this car to anyone who is more concerned with substance and value than hot design and blazing acceleration.

Since we purchase the 500 there have only been two others in our community. We have been stopped several times so people can check it out and get our comments, which are very favorable. The only thing bad about buying a new model is the insurance rating. On our trade in Buick Le Sabre Limited it was rated (11) $281 every 6 months. Our Ford Explorer (11) $281 every 6 months and the 500 (17) $465 every 6 months and that is with 5 agencies that we checked with. Another thing is when we were looking of the 500 Limited it seems 80% of them had a moon roof that was a $900 option we didn't want and it took close to a week for our dealer to find one without. Other then that we love the 500.

I don't usually buy American cars because I felt the quality and the design of them was not that great. The Ford 500 hundred looked different from all the others. So I took it for a test drive. It drove great. It felt like I had more control of a car then every before due to the driver seat. For the first time ever, the thought of buying a foreign car was completely out of my mind. So I bought the Ford 500 hundred. p.s. I have never before been stopped by so many people inquiring about my new car. The car is a great ego buster. :)

The first thing that drew us to the Ford 500 was the looks. It looked like a luxury sedan. Then we looked at the price and were hooked. The list price was very reasonable. After we saw the price my wife sat in it and we were sold. We are both over 6' tall and have been driving a Taurus for 5 years so when we sat in the Ford 500 the head room and spaciousness of the cabin convinced my wife that a change was needed. As for driving, I find it to be fun to drive and the knock on the engine to be unfair. I feel there is plenty of power for entering the freeway. This is a family sedan not a sports car. I also have not received less than 24 mpg. Having driven over 3000 miles now I am extremely happy.

When I test drove the 500 it was just as a lark. The moment I saw it I was intrigued by it's stylish European look. Once inside the roomyness and luxury was astonishing. I drive a lot and love this car. It is extremely comfortable. I moved to this car from an Expedition that never gave us a single problem. However, gas mileage inspired the move. The great visibililty, huge trunk, nice handling and what more could you want? Great safety ratings. I got every option available on this car and it is fun.

After six weeks of waivering back an forth about whether or not to buy the Five Hundred I took the plunge and I am happy I did! I drove both transmissions and the CVT is the only way to go - much smoother and quieter. Not sure why some people say the car needs more horses because I think it has plenty of pep for a sedan - after all it is not meant to be a race car. The AWD is a real plus for NJ weather. If you are thinking about this car, GO FOR IT!

Overall I am pleased so far. Issues: 1. At 30-40 mph part thottle, engine/transmision audibly "groans" while in 6th gear, possibly lugging. Too much pedal travel to shift to 5th. Subtle adjustments to vehicle speed at these conditions is difficult. 2. Highway wind noise near driver's ear. Sounds like leak in the door seal; cannot locate source. 3. 3" depression in rear bumper just right of center near one of the reverse sensors. No evidence of being hit. 4. Small scratch on instrument panel. 5. Coolant smell inside once after 15 minute idle. 6. 21.3 MPG mixed driving. 7. Heated seats warm up slow vs. VW Jetta, then get too hot. On a 10 minute timer. Distribution not as good.

I own a new 500, everybody who drives it or even rides in are extremely pleased with the vehicle. I did not buy the vehicle to blow people off the road or drag race anybody. I purchased the vehicle because it fits me well. I am 6'6" and have a family. It seats 5 adults very well, and have taken several trips with 4 adults with all the luggage and had no problems with performance. This car is perfect for my real estate business, and the AWD in Colorado is perfect. Yes I could have purchased a car with more horsepower etc, but why? The 500 has no problem maintaining all the posted speed limits, even 75. I did rent the new Chrysler 300, drove it over 2,500 miles and hated it.

I've now had the car for 5 months and thought I would update. Anyone who thought they could only buy an SUV for height & space is wrong! I have as yet to fill it up. My only complaint is the engine seems to have a hard time deciding what gear to be in as you slow in city traffic and then accelerate again. I am 5'2" and all the controls are very easy to reach. No problem getting away from the steering wheel and still reaching the pedals. Very comfortable in town & on trips. Thrilled when I heard 5 star crash test scores in all categories! If I had been renting for this long, I would definately buy it. Live in Erie, PA, 100" snow and it goes great! With the weight & traction control AWD not necessary. Buy it!

Brake rotors warped (dealer says normal), brakes grind (dealer says normal), cruise quit working, brake lights come on by themselves, sun roof leaks (dealer says normal). Rear end sounds like it is about to fall off everytime you hit a bump or rough pavement at low speeds (dealer says normal for this car). Absolutely no soundproofing materials in the trunk. This car is a poorly built piece of junk.

I had a little problem in the snow a few months ago I got stuck so many times it was awful. I also think the the seats could be a little more comfortable and maybe heated and a little more ajustable. Thank you.

My family is very tall and they have lots of room in the back. I find it easy to handle and the vision is unreal, lots of visibility with no blind spots I recommend this car to anyone. Being an 8 cylinder guy who doesn't care about gas prices, my priorities had to change. My wife and I traded in our 2003 Durango and it was the best thing we ever did. I was skeptical at first, but this is by far the most comfortable car I have ever been in. Being 6' 3" and 230 pounds, this is the first car that I have ever been in where I'm completely comfortable sitting in the back seat - with room to spare! It's great to drive and has a beautiful interior with nice and easy to use features. I absolutely love the looks of this car. My advice is the redfire metallic, prettiest color I've seen.

Love it! We traded in a 2002 Explorer for our Ford 500.The 500 has as much room as the Explorer with trunk included. The 500 is as easy to get in and out of as the SUV. Very easy on backs and knees. You don't sit up as high as the SUV but it does set up higher then any car I've ever been in. It goes well in snow, but does not feel as safe in hugging the road as the SUV did in snow. But I really like it and love the way it handles. We get a lot of positive comments on the looks of it.

I needed a comfy commuter with auto transmission, decent mileage, fairly quiet ride that was around $26k. This Limited does what I need without the big price tag. The looks are fine (silver with black interior) and visibility from cabin is excellent. At 500 miles on engine, I get around 30 mpg cruising 55-70. Heavy pedal lowers mpg to low 20s. Engine is smooth and quiet and six speed auto works well. Highway passing is adequate but I usually drive alone. This car's handling feels like a smaller car with a good turning radius.

...and I love it! Glad we found this wonderful, large comfortable car - at such a great price. The styling is a bit on the vanilla side but who cares. It's attractive to me and that's all that matters. The command seating gives me a fantastic view of the road. The leg room for me (5'-8'') and my wife (5'-4'') is more than generous and the trunk can carry almost anything you can throw at it. This car, in my opinion, is a much better value than any strangely styled Honda, Nissan or Toyota on the road today.

I'm short and my husband is tall. Due to five back surgeries, it is difficult getting in and out all sedans, until the Ford 500. Needed to find something that would meet both our needs. Being only 5 foot, I have to sit close to the steering wheel, which always bothered me with todays air bags. If I was to be in a head on accident, I probably would be killed from the air bag. With the 500, I can move the foot pedal towards me and not have to sit so close. The rear sensors will be another big help. I have backed into poles and other things you can't see when backing up. Parking is a easy with this feature. This car is fully automatic and the cruise control maintains correct speed going up hills

Interior: comfortable. "Pebble" color is much too light. Difficult to keep rugs clean. Glare from light colored dash onto windshield. Convenient dash controls. Floor heat from "auto" climate control blows on driver's right foot. Very hot and uncomfortable. Navigation system, satellite ready radio, aux input are not a factory option. The second 12V plug is inconveniently located in the center console. Exterior: high, 18" wheels, plain, conservative styling. The car is comfortable, has a car-like ride, functions like an SUV in the bad weather with much better gas mileage than an SUV. It's perfect for anyone who wants the features if an SUV in the safety and ride of a car.

The 500 LTD is great car for the price. The mileage is terrific 27 hwy 19+ city and it has plenty of power for the average driver. (I should know, my other car is a Marauder) It handles very well and brakes better than a lot of other cars. I train company drivers and drive a lot of different makes and models of cars. The 500 has tremendous visibility and lets you sit in a position allowing you to see everything around you in any driving situation. The trunk is huge and well designed to put cargo into it and get it back out without struggling or having to bend over too far to get to it. It seats 5 adults comfortably and is quiet enough to converse without shouting.

We have taken one short trip and one long trip in our Five Hundred and it is a very comfortable car to drive and sit in for long distances. Rides very nice and mileage was okay on the highway. I got 25.5 MPG driving at 73 miles per hour. We both like the high seats and the safety features on the car are outstanding. Since it is a large sedan, it isn't that nimble in a parking lot but not bad. On the road it is nimble and responds very fast to your touch. Ford needs to use a 3.5L engine with a 3.05 rear end. Mileage would increase and still have plenty of power. My engine is the 3.0L with a 3.49 rear end. When you step on the gas, the engine sounds like it strains a little.

I looked at various vehicles and was very interested in the new Buick LaCrosse until I opened the door to the new Ford 500. I am 59 years old and found the easy of entry and exit as the number one selling point of this new vehicle, that along with its very stylish appearance and list of all options, plus ride, quietness and handling as well as power from a V6. I am thoroughly pleased with my new 500 Limited. Ford might not want me to say it, but I actually like my new 500 better than the LS. I have had many compliments on it, even from young people. just bought this car it now has 400 miles on it. car is very comfortable, looks great, lots of people think it is a lexus at first. front seats are great, fuel economy 25.6 on the road but not broke in yet. back seat leg room huge, and the trunk grand canyon size. would definitely recommend to familys of 4. price was great, got this one for invoice $24000.

I was looking for a affordable and comfortable sedan, this 500 is a great deal, you can't get anything domestic or imported that offers this amount of room and comfort for the money. For $27000 I got a fully loaded sedan with all the new technology, incredible room, more than adequate performance, since every magazine complains of the 203 hp engine, and excellent mileage for such a large car, I've got 28mpg on my first fill up. Love the high seating position, the comfortable and quiet ride that doesn't preclude sporty driving when you hustle.

Ford has neatly blended the key engineering features of an SUV and a family sedan to provide a unique vehicle that has the handling, surefootedness, and road visibility to provide a comfortable and confident ride in any weather. The incorporation of Volvo's frame, AWD system, and safety awareness combined with Ford's V6 3L engine and the CVT should make this sedan an attractive vehicle to a variety of consumers. All of this combined with a variety of useful instrumentation features gives this car the feel of a luxury sedan for an affordable price!! Gas mileage has been impressive so far- only driven 1000 miles but have averaged 19/28mpg. Not bad for an AWD with adequate power.

I purchased a new 500 SEL a couple weeks ago becasue my 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII was totaled by a deer. Having been used to a large car, I was skeptical as to the roominess of the 500. I initially wanted a new '05 Mustang, but when I drive one I realized everything was small and tight. The 500 was huge compared to the Mustang. The only real drawback is the lack of legroom for front passengers (I'm 6'3"). I love the CD player and the view. The frontwheel drive is a bit touchy, and the pickup is quick, but whines alot. The exterior styling is great! Everyone says it looks super. I was the first in the area to get one, and am very happy I decided to go with it. Way to go Ford!

All you have to do is drive this car and feel how well it responds to you and the road to understand how great this car is. I went in to buy a suv and saw this on showroom floor and asked to drive it and bought it. It's a well thought out car with many options for storage inside to make your commute to wherever a fun and safe experience and easy on your wallet too for that drive in the countryside on the weekends. Take it for a test drive then you will understand.

The interior space I thought I could only find in the Expedition I had. I do not think you can get more car for your money. Ford read my mind in terms of design, craftmanship and engine response. It is difficult to find such a set of features in this price range. Features that are typical of much more expensive cars. I am extremely impressed!

Very nice car. I was very impressed with ford. I just came back from Europe which is showing a trend of more impressive cars made and designed by ford. I anticipate that this car will hold its value base on its change from the "Basic Ford" look and feel. Elagant interior that is roomy. Lots of gadgets.

Overall, the Ford 500 is an exceptional vehicle. Some improvements that could be made, more horsepower, better sound system...(Bose)...change the grill...get rid of the Ford emblem in the grill and replace it with a hood ornamant...and offer pearl white on the Limited version..with these few minor changes, this car would truly be a world class touring car!

What other AWD full size sedan is available for less than $30k and fairly well equipped? An excellent car for the price. CVT is a unique feature that will, for some, take some getting used to. Be sure to check out foot space on both driver and passenger sides before buying. Plenty for me, but others might not think so. And why, Ford, no Sirius Satellite Radio? No stability control? And only the 3.0? Still, a great value and I am well satisfied, so far. Reliability remains to be proven, but may well be better than average. For this car to succeed, it must be reliable!

Fun to drive! Stunning looks. I bought the first one in our area and everyone is asking me about it! Fuel economy better than listed on first trip. Only complaints are loud turn signals, no lumbar support on SEL and no ashtray! (They expect smokers to loose a cup holder, although this car does have 8!) Was driving a 50th Anniv Edit. Olds 88 and I still feel like I'm driving a luxury car. Guys at the car wash thought it was a Lexus!! I was looking at small SUV's because I wanted a place for my sons bike and was thrilled when I saw this and found I didn't have to go to the SUV to get the space. His BMX 20" bike fits in the trunk! Would definately recommend anyone needing space drive it!

The 500 is also very practical with its amazingly large trunk. This fuel economy is perfect for a car of its size. Hands down Ford has created a fantastic car that the whole family will love.

Every thing on this car works. No flowing or dipping on bumps. Handles like a litetweight 540. The seats are very comfortable, Plenty room in front and back. Drove from richmond Va to Davis wv and push the car very hard and it excel in every area. Handle the mountians with ease. No panic moments. The transmisson is part of the key for this size car. Averaged 25,1 round trip. FORD has really put alot of work in this car. AS soon as the consumer finds out about this product they will sell all they can make. This is the answer to the overseas wheels. This is not a hard core sports sedan but will make a catagory of it own. If it holds up in the months to come ford has a winner.

The interior design of this car was very well thought out. Everything is within easy reach and logically placed. The seating position is a little odd initially (raised app. 3-4 inches higher than other sedans) but is very comfortable on any length trip. The rear seat legroom is outstanding and the width and shape allows 3 adults abreast fairly comfortably. The exterior design is fresh and clean, but not awe- inspiring. Engine power is adequate and the 6-speed automatic is quite smooth. Handling is crisp and precise, but the lateral support of the front seats is lacking. Gas mileage has been averaging 25-32, depending on conditions. Overall, a solid choice for many baby-boomers.
