As with another reviewer, this is my second 'Ex' (also had an '01). Replaced after transmission had repeated problems ending in new transmission (fortunately it was still under warranty). I actually liked the 7.0 engine better, but this one does have better mileage and I can carry my entire extended family and tow a boat when we go on vacation. Towing and carrying full load, can cross Snoqualmie Pass in worst winter conditions with just winter tires, no problems. I love this car and am glad I got one of the last ones - will care for it and probably replace the engine if it ever fails. Oh, and by the way - runs great on Biodiesel - I've had it up to B100 but B5-B20 is best for coldest winter weather.

I had a 2001 Excursion and loved it. I have kids, parents,horses, etc. and it has always worked well. Love the vehicle but have had a lot of problems with the 2005 model. Wish they would go back to old engine. A lot of problems with exhaust. It is in the shop now and I am torn, keep fixing problems or buy Suburban. Hate that idea. Miss old Excursion, lets rebuild that one and get back on track!

I had wanted an Excursion since they first arived on the showroom floor. I finally got one nine years later, as a replacement for two vehicles. It now takes the place of my Lincoln Town Car and a 4wd 15 passenger van, which was a hard thing to do. I wanted all the luxury inside an suv just like my Lincoln Cartier, the room, rugedness,and 4wd go anywhere of my van. It has replaced them both with flying colors, and made me very happy. It is very comfortable and ride hieght is excelent. I use this vehicle for work, family and play.

Better Than Two Previous Towncars

Unlike the Towncars little or no road and wind noise. Most miles are annual trips between Florida and New Jersey. Loaded to the roof, it has more than adequate power. At 14,062 every aspect of it is dependable and holding up better than any other car I have owned.

Beauty and a BEAST

We purchased a pair (2) 2005 Ford Excursion Limited's with the 6.0L turbo diesel. We traded in a pair (2) of Volvo's. With three (3) growing kids and lots of gear, the Volvo's just could not carry the loads without going to roof racks. The diesel Excursion is a treat. So much power, so much room, so much safety. selected againt Chevy/ GMC, Caddy because we love Ford diesels since they run much stronger and longer. Plus, those are all smaller interiors. I wish Ford would revisit making the Excursion. We bought two (2) of the 2005 model with the Limited package. We will replace the engines if they ever need it, with the new updated Powerstroke found in the 2009 Super Duty pick-ups.

This is the best vehicle I have ever owned. Great highway ride with ample room, tows a mountain, and can go off road with the best of them. This beast is big, comfortable, and safe. I can put a hybrid in the rear cargo area!

After 44,000 Miles...

After 44,000 miles and 3 1/2 years, we still own our "Big X" land yacht. Yes, it's big and no, it's not a politically- correct hybrid sub-compact, but what a vehicle. In my experience, the hype about the gas mileage in the V-10 is misinformation; I've been averaging 10 to 11 mpg in town and 15.4 on the highway. The ONLY problems I've had with this vehicle are with the brakes. I've had the brakes done twice in 3 1/2 years; it hasn't been to the shop for anything else, other than oil and filter changes.

I traded in an '06 Tahoe at the end of my lease for a used '05 Excursion turbodiesel. It has more room for my kids, dogs and luggage, and the diesel option sealed the deal, since it can tow anything and gets better mileage than the gas version. If you need the room, nothing beats the Excursion. I am more than pleased with this vehicle, and even with 50K on the odometer, it still runs and looks like new. Too bad they don't make this truck anymore, because even a few years old, the truck is still a winner.

This is our second Excursion. First was a 2002. The first was so good I had to get a 2005 because Ford stopped making them. This is the best highway vehicle I ever had. Family vacations are wonderful. Plenty of room, comfortable and safe. We have driven thru some sizable storms and the stability of this beast is excellent. Performance in the snow and on dirt roads is flawless. This vehicle is so solid I hit a deer at 35mph and there was no damage to the car. There is simply no better or safer vehicle for my family. 90,000m on the 2002 without any significant repairs. 32,000 on the 2005 with no problems yet.

Don't know why this vehicle was discontinued. I would continue to by this car until I can't drive anymore. I got it for 18k because the dealership couldnt move it, 35k miles mint condition turbo diesel. Have put on 5k miles in 2 months and love it - diesel could be cheaper. Very comfortable, great visibility and overall very safe. Mileage can be better and diesel requires some extra care like plugging in at night when it's cold and $200 oil changes (15q) but like I said I would buy many more. Hate Ford love the Excursion and we are 3 people in total and have all the space and comfort in the world, as well as room to pick up my 7 siblings when they fly in for a weekend rain, snow, or shine.

Our Excursion is our road trip king. There isn't anywhere we wouldn't take our Excursion. Whether we're trekking across the country on vacations or running around town, this is our vehicle of choice. With room for everything and the kitchen sink, no one and nothing gets left behind. We love the captain's chairs second row seats and the full cargo space. This SUV has everything and goes everywhere. Our Midwestern winters are non-events for us. This beast rolls big and yet is nible around town. If you want utility, room, and awesome looks, look no further. We've ran almost 43,000 trouble free. If you run out of room in the Excursion, you can tow your house behind it too.

I was on the market for a truck and by luck found this beast. I have not had a more enjoyable time driving since. Comfort and security are top notch. Road Feel is A+ I drive New York to Miami 2-4 times a year and drive daily, this is comfortable, great visibility, awesome sense of security GVW 9800lb "the beast" and most importantly in todays economy i was getting awesome mileage (leaving with a full tank a put half a tank in North Carolina and refill in Miami, cruising at 80 -85 mpg) I don't know why Ford discontinued this truck and I will still try and buy another todays market that cant give them away fast enough, with mileage like my Ford Edge I would recommend buying one and enjoying

Last weekend took the family of 5 and the dog on a 1,500 mile trip. Extremely comfortable and got 15.5 mpg from the big V-10. BTW, the 2005 model is superior. Ford finally dialed it in this last yeer (2005). The climate controls, entertainment, ride and dependability have all been excellent. This one is a keeper!

Diesel SUV's are priceless

While diesel fuel price is 50 cents higher than unleaded, the EB Excursion diesel still seats 8, pulls 11000lbs and gets an honest 24mpg highway. I wonder why the owners rate it high and the editors do not, both groups must not be rating it on the same scale.

I like the Excursion because it is comfortable to drive and it allows you to see over most other traffic. With the 6.0 Diesel it is an excellent tow vehicle. I only wish it got much better mileage. So far it has never let me down or stranded me somewhere. The A/C and the DVD system are two of its most used items. The 4 wheel drive comes in very handy on bi-annual shooting trips to the desert areas of Southern California. I sold a 1 year old Crown Vic Sport to purchase this Excursion and have been very happy everyday since. In the past I have usually purchased either Chevys or Dodges, but I am very glad I gave Ford a second look in 2006 and 2007.

Believe it or not we traded in our 2004 BMW 745i for this beast, I also have a 2003 F350 Crewcab LB 4X4 Powerstroke and love it even though it has a rough ride, my wife wanted something more practical that we can use to tow our tow hauler. I did add most of the amenties the BMW had and then some, like DVD surround sound, Bluetooth hands free set up, Ipod adapter and Pioneer nav system. This thing rides plush and has tons of power. I had a Suburban for years and it was too soft for towing. Not to mention horrible torsion bar front suspension that had constant alignment problems and bad brakes. Sub also had fuelpump problems. This monster does it all in luxury and comfort with decent MPG-Diesel

Should of got the Suburban

Bought a brand new Excursion diesel. Transmission went out before 8000 miles; had to get a new transmission replaced (warranty covered); had power steering and brake problems. Radio and DVD player had to be replaced. it took them over 2 months to fix the radio, two weeks to fix the transmission. Spend 56k on this car, wouldn't expect these kinds of problem on a car of this price. Also, now having problems with the heater not working. Wife doesn't trust this car, so now it sits in my driveway collecting dust. Trade-in value not that great. Ford service is not great, always waiting.

Family of 6 Riding High

I am 110% happy with my suv; it has exceeded all of my expectations. I love the power my truck brings with it. I got stuck in the snow 15 times last winter when I drove my minivan & now I have the power of my V10 engine and 4wd. My gas mileage is comparable to my old minivan. I had to use 93 octane for the van so I can use 87 octane for my suv. I don't see much difference. I can fit my 4 children, 2 Labradors and husband in my suv very comfortably. It is by far better than the Suburban and Yukon XL. I looked and drove both before my purchase. I like Fords and was happy to fine the mammoth in Ford's line up. it's too bad they won't make them anymore. It's easy to drive and park, smooth and comfy.

No other SUV on the market can tow more than 10,000 lbs. I needed the power of a diesel. I had an 03' Silverado Crew Cab Long Bed 4 x 4 with 8.1 liter gasoline motor with the 5 speed Allison Transmission. Empty netted 10 mpg around town. The Excursion gets 16 mpg.

I just traded a 2000 Lexus RX300 for a 2005 Ford Excursion 4WD Limited. We drove through a very serious blizzard a few days ago. The Excursion on 4WD is unbeatable: comfortable, safe, and very fun to drive. My kids loved watching DVDs in the middle of the blizzard. In term of cargo space, this car is a dream.

Very reliable suv. Strong towing capabilities. great stopping power. Only suv with enough interior rear storage for the luggage of the maximum number of riders. That's a plus when traveling long distances. Lots of cup holders for passengers and very comfortable seating. Access to rear seats is readily accessible as well.

I have gotten up to 22 miles per gallon hwy and it's not even broken in yet. The Excursion is everything I need or could ever what in an SUV. I'm saddened Ford is not going to make them anymore!

I was surprised to get 16 mpg - much better than my Jeep Wrangler. I've driven similar trucks and usually got around 9 or 10 mpg. I'm really impressed with the power of the 6.0 diesel - it definitely outperforms the older 7.3.

I absolutely love this truck. I opted for gas over diesel and after driving it the V-8 seemed nothing short of gutless and wasn't even an option. I can't say I pay a lot of attention to the gas mileage but it seems to be decent for the vehicle size and the power ... yeowww, finally a beast of a vehicle that can get out of its own way. I love it. Maneuvers great, smooth ride & all in all I think a great riding vehicle. I definitely prefer driving it over my 350z. Not very difficult to find parking, can get it in any spot I can fit my Chevy truck into.

V10 Gas or Diesel?

We love our Excursion, even nick-named it "Haus" since this gentle giant has served us well. Pulls a horse trailer with ease and on those occasions when you need to rent "real" toys like a 21' boom lift or a backhoe, you better not show up in a Toyota, they'll laugh you out of the place. Go home son and bring back a real truck 3/4 ton or better you'll be hearing as you slink out of the parking lot. We have a real issue over all the hoopla about the Powerstroke diesel and all the negatives about the V-10 sucking up gas, which is definitely NOT the case, ours has always gotten 12-15 MPG city and gets better mileage loaded out than the Dodge Ram Pickup with a 318-V8, and no stinky $$ diesel fuel.

This is by far the best truck we have ever owned. It will carry or drag anything you ask of it. We when though three hurricanes last year and this truck never missed a step. From dragging fallen trees out of the road to carrying building supplies, it never let us down. And when every one ran out of gas it was still easy to find diesel.

This truck is awesome! It has room for the whole family and the luggage too. The gas mileage of the 6.0L diesel is unbelievable. After comparing it to the competition, there was no comparison. The Excursion won hands down! You will not be sorry making this purchase.

We bit the bullet

Finally, our family of 6 has room to travel with book bags, lacrosse sticks, gym bags, basketball bags, and swim bags ... and no one loses an eye or gets stepped on while exiting the vehicle! My husband and I did not want to take on the gas mileage, and we did not want the noise of the diesel, so we hesitated about buying the Excursion. I wanted a Suburban. What convinced us? The value of Excursion over the Suburban and the Toyota Sienna that we considered. We got more for our money in cargo room, and a luxury interior, and the Excursion costs 400 less dollars per year to insure than the other. We wouldn't go back. We love our Excursion, and so do the kids!

I lifted mine 3", added extra leafs, and 36" tires. It is very fun to drive once you have owned it a while. If you are used to a smaller car, and only drive it once, you will find it difficult to park. I live in the mountains, and the only thing I don't like is the power going up the mountain passes. I'm down to about 35mph by the time I hit the Eisenhower tunnel with my horse trailer ... but that's my fault for not going with the turbo diesel. This is definitely the most comfortable SUV to ride in on long trips. (We also own a Denali).

This SUV is AWESOME! I am getting 16- 17MPG in city and 21-24mpg hwy. With a 6500lb SUV with 325hp and 560lb torque This beast is quicker than my V6 Mitsu Car and is getting within 2mpg fuel economy on the hwy. Much better choice than my minivan for my 3 kids. Twin girls load easy behind the driver on the 60% bench while letting me flip up and load my 3yr old son in the 3rd row. This leaves PLENTY of room for 3 more adults in back. There is tons of room for the double stroller and luggage behind the 3rd row WOW! Ford is ending production in SEPT replacing it with a '07 stretched Expedition. Get one before they are gone. With Family Plan Pricing a Limited Diesel 2-5K under invoice.

Noisy engine. Diesel engine noise same as '04 model year; no dampening material under hood to eliminate same noise. Factory will not correct the problem. Also pulling a 34 foot Airstream trailer the rear of the tow vehicle sags 2 inches low, making the connection look like it's dragging down in the middle at the hitch point.

My diesel Excursion gets better mileage than my neighbor's Grand Cherokee and my other neighbor's Blazer and frankly, they are dumbfounded. They can't even begin to comprehend what it is like to be able to travel 800+ miles on a single tank of fuel. The idea of being able to tow their boat up to their lake home without having to stop for gas doesn't seem possible to them, because it isn't. One of the big 3 needs to continue producing a full-sized, diesel- powered SUV. Buy one of these trucks while you still can and make sure you buy a diesel. Will a diesel hold it's value? Try even finding a used diesel Excursion that has less than 100,000 miles on it and see how much the owner is asking.

I love this truck. Everyone says that it’s a big truck; it's not. I love sitting up so high. And diesel is the only way to go. I get 500 miles to a tank and it lasts me over a month. When we go to Rochester we don't have to stop for gas. And it's a 6 hour drive and 375 miles away from where I live. I have three kids, 3 year old and 3 month old twins, and let me tell you it’s better than a minivan. Way more room. I can put a double stroller and a single one in the trunk with my groceries. I can put 2 people on the third row seat with my 3 year old and 1 person in the back seat with my twins. So all together I can fit 8 people in my truck. I will never own anything else again.

I love it. We only have two kids so far, but to go anywhere takes a lot of stuff and room for it. This can fit it all and lots more, especially for those long road trips. The diesel engine's performance is phenomenal. It is so powerful. Right now we are averaging about 16.5 mpg, and about 680 miles a tank. Not bad considering gas excursions get approximately 7-8 mpg. :-) I would suggest this car to anyone.

I like the exterior modifications and the positive acceleration for the 2005 lineup. The ride and handling characteristic take awhile to get used to. I really don't like the extra swaying of the vehicle; maybe a heavier duty shock needs to be used at all corners. The now standard Pirelli tires really helped me decide to get the vehicle. It made me think that Ford really wants the best for its customer.

My 2004 is the second Excursion we have owned. We tow a 10,000 lb. trailer and it has no problem handling the trailer. We get 21 mpg on the interstate when not towing, and 11 mpg when towing. Factoring what we tow, 6 adults, and gear, we are getting fantastic mileage. Hope Ford continues to build this great truck.

I absolutely love my Excursion! It has become a member of our family. I have the V-10 and, yes, it does drink gas; but it's a trade-off I'm willing to make for the performance and the LOOK of the truck. Gas is a cost of using any vehicle. It just costs more for the Excursion.

I'm 6'7 320 pounds. I had all the big trucks and this one is the best. I went from a Silverado to Escalade to a Ram and could not find comfort until I sat in the big dog; then i knew this was my truck and of course I always go top of the line. With four kids, and a wife, we needed the room. With the Ford Excursion you have room. Not only room for us but throw a few more folks in with you. Storage behind the third seat is really good. Power, this baby has it. I sit high while driving and I like that also. As for the gas, well when you buy a vehicle like this, you ain't buying it for the gas mileage. But on the road it's not that bad, I get a little over 16 mpg. The family went from Pensacola FL to Cartersville GA, and ran all over town before we needed to gas up; that was great! Room for all, comfort, and a nice secure feeling makes the Ford Excursion a great to own, fun to drive SUV. I love my Excursion, and have zero complaints.

This is the first vehicle that I've LOVED! It looks as nice today as when I bought it. It's the ONLY vehicle that suits our families needs. With 3 kids and a dog, there is room for the dog's crate, suitcases and we're NOT all sitting on top of one another. There are times when it's still not large enough. With the diesel I get 21.5 MPG at 60MPH! In addition, we also pull an 8000 lb. camper. The ride is incredibly smooth pulling the camper at 75 mph through Nevada on the way to California. It also starts with no problems in Minnesota's winters! My two teenagers AND my wife prefer to drive the Excursion over the Sable wagon, and have no problems with maneuverability.

We have had Suburbans and prefer the ride of the Excursion. We ordered our Excursion after my husband purchased his F-350 4 door. Both vehicles are diesel which you cannot get with the Suburbans. The mileage is as good, if not better than our previous vehicles.

Had a 2001 Ltd diesel and traded for new '05. Man, what a difference. I liked the '01, but the improvements made to the vehicle are _very_ apparent. Handling is better, power is simply amazing - tow a 5000lb trailer like it isn't there when crossing Stevens Pass. The shift quality with the new 5-speed is better - tighter shifts and the tow-mode means no burning your brakes on long downhills. And of course, as before, I can carry my entire extended family (many of whom do not drive) all over the place, and watch while the engine (under load) gets better fuel economy than my Chrysler 300M. This is a brilliant car for its purpose - Diesel Forever!

I have the 4 wheel drive diesel Limited Excursion. It pulls my 35' travel trailer with no problems at all. The gas mileage with the diesel engine is about 15-17 city and 17-21 highway. I actually get better mileage than I did with the gas Chevy Suburban I traded in on it.

Overall super satisfied. We have the 6.0 diesel which makes this large vehicle not only comfortable but efficient. Getting 18.5 average which is better than our minivan or either of our Jeeps. we use it to tow a 30 foot travel trailer which it does with ease. Went from Maryland to Knoxville Tenn. on one tank with trailer in tow at traffic speeds. Much better than my old 460 Ford - three times as much fuel to go same place.

I purchased a 2001 Ford Excusion for our ministry pulling a trailer and averaged 40,000 miles a year, This is the best heavy duty and enjoyable vehicle we have owned, I couldn't wait to trade up to the 2005 Excursion. It's one of the most dependable, hardworking, vehicles we've ever used. Please, don't stop making the Ford Excursion! I'm a big person and it fits me just right. It has all the options a person could want, and the speaker system is fabulous. Overall an exceptional buy. Paid $6,000 under MSRP. Fuel economy in first 400 miles is 18 MPG combined city & highway. Ride, despite other's criticism, is much better than the pickup trucks I have owned in the past. Not quite as good as my Expedition but overall a good ride. Length of the vehicle is the same as a pickup truck with a long bed and regular cab. Fits in my garage with an Expedition just fine. It also gets 3 miles a gallon better mileage than my Expedition.

It is a very good car for towing and hauling people. It is very roomy. The diesel engine has very good power and the tow transmission is very good for holding back large loads on steep grades. My only complaint is the steering and handling was not good. It wandered all over the road. We could not even pull our travel trailer over 45 mph but our dealer was very good about fixing it (Ford company was not!). They had to bring it to a specialty shop to have the front end shimmed correctly and a new steering box installed and replaced the stock shocks with a truck style shock. Now it drives great but I am very upset that Ford let a car that is made for pulling leave the factory so unsafe to drive with a load.

I tow a lot and need a big car. I pulled the trigger on the Excursion with the diesel engine. Would highly recommend the diesel over gasoline engines. I get 21 mpg on highway and about 16 in city. If you seriously utilize an SUV and have a large family I would consider this your best bet over any other SUV, especially if you tow. Owned 2 Suburban's, 2 Jeeps and nothing compares to the comfort and room of the Excursion.

We don't tow but carry larger loads and the space is amazing. But, it's the comfort we enjoy. The SUV is so fun to drive and the Powerstroke 6.0L diesel has to be driven to be believed. The acceleration is like a big V8 but we are getting 18 mpg on the highway--and only have 6,500 miles. I feel my wife is VERY safe in the vehicle and long trips are a dream for my whole family. We have the DVD player which is truly fun for our two boys on trips. Looks large, drives like an Explorer.

I love my car (truck). it drives excellent; the room is well worth the money and the backing up signal has made even the tightest spots feel like large ones. Also my truck turns on a dime. I was almost killed in my Honda Accord and my husband wanted to put me and our 3 kids into something safe. I can almost take on the world with comfort, style and reliablility it has been worth every penny. I do get 21 mpg in my 7.3 diesel Eddie Bauer.

Pulls my 28' Airstream over any mountain in the continent. Both of us love to drive it. Takes more room to park, but when you get used to it you forget about that. It's also our third V-10. The best bang for the buck imaginable. Sits tall on the road but has the power to get you out of a tight spot when it is needed. Fuel economy better than I first thought it would be. Easy handling in tight turns. The accelerator takes some adjusting to but the shifting points make getting into high traffic areas a breeze. Tried both engines the V10 and the Diesel. Hands down favorite is the diesel.

Only vehicle that can carry a large payload and people as well. Handles very well, good interior features, does not drive like a truck - much more smoother. Has plenty of power unlike what many have said cruises up a grade no problem fully loaded, Escalade is too small and gimmicky in comparison enormous Cadillac emblem on back door goofy unusable gadgets etc.

Excellent, reliable, great towing, a must is diesel, we get 17.3 avg. for a very heavy vehicle with 9200 GVW. Had GM, Expedition,and Excursion is the best. I needed a Big SUV but was afraid of the fuel costs. Ford's Turbo Diesel is the answer. This truck is incredible. At 7000 plus pounds, 11000 lbs. of towing capacity, the fuel mileage is equal to my daughters V6 midsize SUV. I am averaging 18+ overall mileage with power that you cannot believe. I mean this baby flies. I actually spun the rear wheels the other day entering traffic. Naturally, after I bought the truck, diesel fuel increased to $2+ per gallon, but I am confident it will settle back down to regular fuel prices. My friend's GMC Yukon XL gets 11 miles per gallon no matter what he does. Is he ever jealous!

This is a great family vehicle. I've been driving suburbans for 8 years and hesitated moving to the excursion. The additonal room has been great as our family has transitioned from toddlers to teenagers. The overall quality of this vehicle is exceptional and I like having the diesel engine. Large capacity SUV that is not for the timid. This is my second one with a diesel engine. Milage is about mid 17 on my comutes and about 19 on the highway. In Florida last year with no hills and 55 mph speed limit the milage went over 22 mpg. Not bad for GVW @ 9200 lbs. New diesel is quieter than 01 model year. For some reason the tree hugers don't like this one but that's because they haven't educated themselves to what this vechicle is all about. I may agree with the gas version but certainly not the diesel. Interior finish is good to excellent. It handles well considering its weight and height above the ground. Try one you will like it.

My experience with the Excursion is that it is extremely reliable. The only negative thing that I have to say about it is the interior design, whereby the spare tire is inside. I'm sure it could have been placed outside like most other vehicles. That would enable us to utilize that "dead space" which is created by having a tire inside of the vehicle. As for fuel economy, I've never seen a rating, but we average anywhere between 18-21 mph on the highway, and 16-18 in the city! I think that is awesome for a vehicle of its size. Great truck! We have owned two, both diesels. Used for towing large trailer up and down the east coast. Has power to spare even pulling up hill. I would buy a thrid one to save in the garage if I found out Ford was going to stop production.

You sure feel safe in it, and you can haul tons of goodies. Pulls a 6k lb boat with out telling. Rides like a horse though. Pretty reliable

Wonderful towing capabilities- you hardly know have something back there. We generally tow between 5000 and 9000 lbs. Quick response both when asking for speed and when asking for stopping. Comfortable for passengers and great cargo capacity both with all the seats in place and without. Fuel economy has been around 20mpg(diesel) which I don't think is bad for the size of the vehicle.

The excursion is an SUV that can work like a truck and be a wonderful family auto at the same time. We have been able to tow heavy loads, and just use as an everyday rig.

I carpool with another lady, and the kids love it too. Especially when we go shopping, there's room to put stuff. Also, I haul our boat, and my husbands rock buggy. When we take it our of town, the excursion is our hotel, we just sleep in it. I think, they shouldn't have took them off the line, but should have made only diesel ones available.

I was uncertain about making the jump to an Excursion so in 2003 I purchased a comperable Expedition. This year I was fortunate enough to find an Excursion at the very least compareable to my Expedition. The first thing I noticed was more interior room. The seat configuration makes sense. The steering is tighter I suspect because of the different suspension but I like the solid feel. Acceleration feels slugish at first but after a while you adapt to the Diesel performance. When the power is needed it only requires a deeper push oif the accelerator.

I'm a mother of 4 small children. I have an expedition also but it just is not big enough for traveling with our two dogs. The Excursion fits all of us plus grandma and the dogs in the very back and bags in Thule box the roof. Lots Of Room for Everyone. YA! YA!

2005 Excursion

This is my 2nd Excursion (1st is a 2002). We travel extensivly and the leg room and width of the interior is excellent. I also use it for towing and even with a fully loaded trailer, the power is still there. I can climb a mountain (the Blue Ridge's) at 75mph with no problem. Because I mostly use it on the highway/interstates my gas mileage is fairly high, averaging around 17.5-20.00mpg per tank. In town driving I usually get 14.5-15.5mpg. I first chose the Excursion for the interior room. The cargo space far outpaces that of the Suburban/Yukon and the Expedition. The price is also much better than its competitors and the quality of the materials used is much better.

We purhcased a 2002 Excursion, and sold it a year later for the smaller Expedition. BIG MISTAKE. In 2004, we traded in the Expedition for another Excursion, this time with 6.0 litre diesel. Mileage is no longer an issue, as we get about 17-19 miles to the gallon on the highway, and about 13-15 in the city. We can tow anything and go anywhere with it The 4-wheel on the fly system is great, and we now have plenty of room for our 3 kids, their friends, and of course our dog Savannah. THANKS FORD!!!!!!

A Real Truck

After towing a 6,000 lb travel trailer for 3,000 miles with a Lincoln Aviator, I decided it was time for a real truck. The Powerstroke (Intl) diesel is getting 22MPG highway, 14.5 with the trailer - as compared to 14 and 7.5 with the Aviator. A HUGE difference - plus diesel is cheaper than premium. The 44 gallon tank gives us an 800 mile range, while the Aviator had a 180 mile range. The Limited has the same options as the Aviator, except for the cooled seats and navigation. The space is fabulous and although the size takes getting used to, it isn't that big if a deal. I put an $1800 Banks Six Gun PowerPack on it that boosts the HP to 500 and torque to 800 - amazing power
