General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2004-2012 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured May 16, 2003, through October 11, 2012, 2004-2007 Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured June 25, 2003, through April 5, 2007, 2005-2010 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured May 26, 2004, through January 4, 2010, and 2007-2010 Saturn Aura vehicles manufactured April 24, 2006, through May 26, 2009. In the affected vehicles, increased resistance in the Body Control Module (BCM) connection may result in voltage fluctuations in the Brake Apply Sensor (BAS) circuit. These fluctuations can cause one or more of these conditions: the brake lights to illuminate without the brake pedal being pushed; the brake lights to not illuminate when the pedal is pushed; difficulty disengaging the cruise control; moving the gear shifter out of the 'PARK' position without pushing the brake; and disablement of crash avoidance features such as traction control, electronic stability control, and panic braking assist features.

I have had very good good luck with this car.It has been very reliable. It can sit outside in the winter for a week and start right up at -20 below zero.it has been cheap to own, cheap to maintain and a good ride with decent power and comfortable to drive. For 80000 miles it has been a very good buy.It is is well worn and seen better days but will not die.So I keep it as a backup ride. How can you beat that.

Bought vehicle with approximately 30,000 miles on it. Problems started around 70,000 miles. Engine died due to defective timing chain tensioner. at about 100,000 miles the sub frame rusted out and failed, trashing the rack and pinion steering. Both wheel front wheel bearings have been replaced around 105,000. now at about 120,000 engine AGAIN!! When we replaced the engine we put a used one in with all new timing chain components... but yet again the engine failed.( "ecoTech" engine) I have bought my last Chevy. period!!! this car has costed us about 6500 in repairs. junk... junk.... JUNK!

I bought my car used off a car lot a year ago now. It already had 202,000 miles on it and now has about 229,000. I've had no problems with my car. Love it and so would buy another one.

When I purchased this car in 2007 I was happy because It looked prtty good. But after a few months past that's when the problems started. First it was the linement which I'm still working on getting it corrected. I;ve had this problem for years I don't know what it feels like driving a car that has good linement. I can't check my trans fulids I have to go to the dealership which I know will charge me a arm and a leg. Now my engine is shaking when I put the car in P or D. That started when I changed the air filter. the list goes on and on.. I hate this car..

I don't know what people see in this car, but it is the worst car I have ever owned in my life. Family always told me to stick with toyota camry or Honda Accord, I wanted something different, and boy did I made the biggest mistake of my life. A hollow car with very bad steering and tie rod ends breaking every 10 to 20k miles. It's started to rust and good luck if you want to do some extra mods on this vehicle because it will make sure to either use stock products or it will make you pay arm and leg to drive around again. GM should be shamed of themselves and I will NEVER, EVER BUYING A GM FOR SURE. And anyone who want to take chances, good luck with disappointment. You've been warned.

My 2005 Chevy Malibu has 56,500 miles and has never given me any problems, barring the occasional Malibu moment. The 2.2L 4-cylinder engine is surprsingly robust and highway passing is not as difficult as it generally is with these type of engines. The interior, while considered boring by many, is to me just practical enough without being completely ugly. The cargo space, both in the passenger cabin and the trunk is very surprising. Several employees at department stores have doubted that large objects could indeed fit in my spacious trunk, but they were also surprised that a full-size outdoor grill slid in with ease. Overall, my only complaint about the car is the lack of reading lamps.

Most inexpensive car I've ever owned. Absolutely no unexpected issues. Normal brake and tire wear about 80k miles each, 1 set of spark plugs, 1 belt, 2 tie rod ends and 1 battery. I've used Mobile 1 and change oil at 9k, and had the trans. serviced twice. As you've guessed I drive for my job a lot, and I don't baby it. V-6 Fuel mileage averages about 34 highway, 28 overall. Would consider a trade but afraid I can't find a more dependable car.

I purchased this car with 26K miles on it and now has 70K. It has had a starter issue since purchase keep saying nothing wrong and wont fix. Lights burn out constantly, now the body control module has gone out. Great fuel economy, smooth ride, fun car, just has to many problems for the price I paid. I'm hoping the body control module solves all the electrical problems going on because I could not even drive the car while waiting the last 3 weeks for the backordered part to come into the dealer. Also this part can only be installed by the dealer because of programing my cheaper mechanic can not do it. I'm not thrilled, most likely will go foreign next time around.

I bought this Malibu in 2005 right off the lot new. It has never ever failed me. Great on mileage and I am averaging over 28 mpg with it. It owes me nothing. Comfortable, built well and except for the brakes, Disc in front and Drums in rear getting hard spots and will need to be turned)I have no issues with this car. Best car I bought for the money. Last year it got me through the snow when my wife's Volvo S-80 wouldn't. Great traction with the tires I am using in snow. I suggest using Bridgestone Blizack tires on this car for added snow performance.

I see a lot of the negative reviews, and the only things I agree with are the ease at which the cloth seats stain and the lamps burning out. Apart from these two issues I have put about 70K miles on the vehicle and no issues. Car runs smooth and has pep as a result of the V6. Fuel economy is great and while the looks are now a little outdated I am happy enough.

The interior is so easily stained along with a crappy radio. But the biggest issue is the steering. GM knew the steering was flawed but failed to recall it- I fixed the top part but today my mechanic told me to stop driving it. It will cost $900 to fix. The mileage and power have been nice and it is a pretty car. I replaced my wife's car last month and now have to buy another one. It will not be a GM.

There are many things I love about the Malibu, but the Electronic Power Steering (EPS) is not high on my list. I have heard that the component was purchased from Toyota (which should automatically raise suspicion). After many embarrassing noise episodes, the EPS finally went on my Malibu while on the Highway doing 65 mph. The fact that I have strong arms and the traffic was light is the only thing that saved me from a major accident. When is this hazard going to get enough attention to warrant a recall? Who do we complain to, (other than Chevy, they are useless).

Bought this car in 2006. Normal wear and tear, service regularly and get good mileage. Had to change rotors and no other parts so far. However was very disappointed to pay over $200 to exchange steering fluid. this should be change with regular oil change and not hit with high bill at 100,000 miles. Also dash light went out and cost $200 to replaced according to mechanic because of location. Small changes can reduce service cost. Overall good road experience. Will buy another Malibu.

The fuel mileage is excellent. The brakes fail way too early. I have gone through one complete brake shoes/pads/rotors.drums replacement at about 50,000 miles. Now the front rotors are warped again.. The transmission failed at 84,000 miles. I had it serviced at 80,000 miles (maintenance schedule calls for transmission service at 100,000 miles). I now have over $3000 in repairs on a 5 year car. I have a 13 year old Ford ranger (90k miles) that I have spent about $1000 in repairs. Good thing GM now has 10 year 1,000,000 power train warranty. However, what will that warranty do for you if the car strands you for 5 days 1000 miles from home while you wait for the transmission to be repaired?

I have had several problems with my Malibu. The sun visor mirror had to be replaced. The check engine light had to be serviced. The steering shaft has been replaced 3 times. My car jerks and feels like its going to take off at least 3 times per month and the dealer doesn't know why. I am always replacing bulbs. The passenger door would not shut completely and has to be fixed. I have reached 55,000 miles and I feel that this car is not going to last another 55,000 miles.

I have owned my malibu for approx. three years. I was very disappointed at the fact that I have had my car in the shop for the same problem three times with service tech's not knowing what was wrong with the car. I have also had to replace every single exterior light on my car, even the L.E.D. break light that was supposed to never go out. It's sad to say that the previous malibu I owned a 99 model has never had any problems and continues to run great.

I've owned five cars. One of them a Honda Accord (bought new. It was a miserable lemon.) This is one of the two best cars I've ever owned (other was an Olds Cutlass Supreme). Reliable, runs great, no big maintenance or performance issues. Not as stylish as I'd like, but I got features I never dreamed I'd have on a car. Including: remote engine ignition (I've never scrapped ice off the windshield / I can get in a warm car on a 12-degree morning), OnStar (excellent response time and personnel for flat tire / dead battery), great gas mileage, comfortable seats, great brakes, satellite radio, exact temperature control. Would buy another Malibu if I needed a new car.

It has just shut off on me at redlights, it pretty much starts when it feels like it. It's actually in the shop now because it didn't want to start. Oh, and the lights on this car blow so frequently be prepared to have the Autozone workers know you by name. I HATE THIS CAR! I bought this car used, and the main purpose is to get me from work and back. This is my first car, and after training in other vehicles I can say that I fit in this car very comfortably, more so than my folks old Cougar, my friend's new Solara, or the last Sentra I sat in. I've had other Chevy owners (mostly pickups) call it cute, and then look shocked when they see a 6'2" football build guy come out of it. The sound is great, everything works just fine. Passing cars in Upstate NY's hilly roads is an everyday thing so I love the V6 engine and the power behind it. The safety features (ABS, Traction Control, Multiple airbags, passive anti-theft, etc) assured the folks that I'd be just fine.

I bought my 2005 Chevy Malibu in May 2006. My chevy has about 68000 thousand miles on it. Within in having it 2 weeks I had to take it back to have the rotors turned. I have had to replace front rotors, the right control arm, have a heating panel remove to stop it from making noise. I have also had the ishaft in the steering fixed three times. The gearing has been replaced, and the water pump has had to be replaced. Most of this was after the warranty expired of course. Now I have complained to GM about the steering issue, and all they are willing to give me is a 15% discount off having it fixed. This car was certified and had low mileage. I will never buy another Chevrolet vehicle.

Bought my Malibu with 19K miles on it. I now have 58K on it. I bought Malibu as I always wanted to try an American car. I have not been disappointed. In last 4 yrs I never had any maintenance job on this car. I have driven to places like Green Bay from Chicago with heavy snow but the car has done very well. With outside temp of -40 F, the car starts in 1-2 try. I was amazed by it. I don't know about other GM cars but I would surely recommend Malibu to anyone who wants a midsize.

Bought it used for my teenage daughter last year and it's been good basic transportation for her. It has plenty of pep to get out into traffic (but not too much for a teenager!) and gets pretty good mileage if driven conservatively. However, it suffers from typical mediocre GM quality/design problems : sometimes the A/C doesn't work, sometimes the info display (radio, clock, mileage, etc.) goes black, cheap plastic parts are breaking, brake pads needed replacing, one strut is going bad, CDs get stuck in the CD player, etc. Pretty much what I'd expect from a 4- year old GM.

Car has clunked since day one like my envoy I traded in, replaced just about everything so far, and now the directional bulbs blow out weekly. I did not have problems within the first 3 years of purchasing the vehicle..Then one day the vehicle starting making a clicking noise...They say the >>cam--??-- valve>>> went in the engine. Jasper is saying that in 2005 the engines were made differently and now they are breaking down around 70000 miles....so they want you to buy a new engine.....There is no recall even though they knew it would be a problem in the future....Not everyone can afford a new engine when on a limited budget....if these manufactures knew there was a problem why no recall......

I bought this car brand new in late 2004. I had it for about three months, when the steering gears needed replacement. About a year and 1/2 later, I had the same issue. Again, replaced the steering gears and guess what is wrong again. Not to mention I have already had the heater unit replaced and now the AC unit doesnt work. For the money, you get a good deal, but for the value, I dont think so. It's funny, I bought a Mazda & Chevy from this dealer, and when I asked them which 1 they thought I have brought into the shop the most, they said the Mazda. WRONG 7 years NO ISSUES. Chevy Malibu on the other hand... Going to head out and trade in this junk car, Now I know why they are going belly up

I bought mine from my credit union as an ex-rental car with under 20K miles. I drive approximately 20K miles/year, mostly highway miles. This car has been great. I have the LS with the V6 engine. It is very comfortable, gets approximately 28mpg combined city/highway, and around 31-32mpg with strictly highway driving. The traction control works VERY well on snowy Colorado roads. The engine has been trouble free (I now have approximately 70K miles on it), with nothing more than normal maintenance having been necessary to date. The body is free of noises and rattles, and the seats are VERY comfortable, especially on long drives. The trunk is huge, and easy to access,

I have had to replace the stereo twice, the dealership says that "self made cd's" tend to not work in the cd players and they will eventually get stuck inside. I can't have the back windows down on the freeway cause of a knocking wind sound but the gas mileage is good. Regular oil changes and tire rotations and maintenance work wonders. The car gets me where I need to go and with any product you buy, there will always be issues. I find that people who complain non stop about their cars are the people who do not do the regular maintenance. This is a long term investment that does require routine care. Sometimes you get a lemon though. It is American made and that is good.

Three years of great driving and lots of power with v-6 engine. Had no problems during warranty period. However, recently noticed a noise in the steering. Car is now 3 months out of warranty and dealer called GM for me and they replaced steering column paying 75% of total cost. I was happy with this gesture from GM. I was out $150 on the total cost of repair. Car has been great in snow and ice. I got 4 studless snow tires and wheels from Tire Rack.com and it is rock solid in bad weather conditions in Idaho.

Bought this car from Budget Car Sales - a lease return at 70,000 Kilometers. 6 months driving & no problems. Budget supplied new premium tires and battery as part of a deal that was better than from new/used GM dealer. Gas mileage around city is an amazing 28 mpg (U.S. gallons)and freeway (interstate 90 from Spokane to Seattle at the posted speed limit 34 mpg. The flow meter on the radio is very accurate.

I purchased my Malibu 14 months ago. 6 cylinder, looked sporty and was roomy. I loved it for one whole month, and then it started to fall apart. In the last year, I have dealt with and replaced the following: power steering module twice, entire steering column, slip joint, lower control arm, tie rod, all four rotors and brake pads. The horn fuse lasts about 1 week before it blows out, and there is a short in the electrical system, and because of it I have replaced all turn signals and head/brake lamps in the last year. And the sun roof pours water into the back seat, and every drop shows on the cheap material. I am looking for a new car, and I will never ever buy another Chevy.

I love the overall gas mileage. The 4 cyclinder has good pep. I have noticed the sun roof rattles? Squeeks every now and then along with the brakes as well at times. I commute 80 miles a day and find it to be a comfortable ride. I always look forward to driving since I bought the vehicle. No regrets thus far.

I had this car for three years. Fuel consumption is great, all controls are good location. Smooth ride. Steering control and braking is excellent. Visibilty is great. Stereo doesnt have aux input and hard or cannot be upgraded. engine are noisy. I sent the car several times to the dealership for steering problem, cd drive running continously, small area paint peeling off under 2 front door and at the luggage door. Within two years under 12000 miles, they had replaced the lower ball joint and lower arm assembly due to clunking noise in the front suspension when it hit a bump even though that I drive it carefully.

I've had this car for about three years now. It's at about 70 thousand miles and still running great. I have the base model, so there isn't a lot of power, but the gas mileage is great and it's got a decent amount of pep for a four cylinder. The ride is smooth and the transmission is fluid. It has plenty of leg room and the interior, while not made of top grade materials, has held up nicely to a 4 and 1 year old.

I bought my Malibu after a month and a half of searching for a vehicle after I totaled mine. I was a bit skeptical on this purchase because I know what kind of problems Malibus have had in the past. I work with cars everyday so I get to see first hand what kind of problems come thru my door. Once I saw the car's sleek design and I was able to test drive it, I was sold. This Malibu was far past my expectations of a Malibu. I love the 3.5L V6, which my dad says is too big for me and my lead foot! I purchased this car used with 80000 miles on it. I have put almost 6000 on it since I bought it and I have very few complaints. There are a few bumps here and there, but thats normal for a used car.

Should have known better than to buy another Malibu after having problems with an '01 model. With the exception of the steering column recall, this car seemed very good until about 3 years in. CD changer doesn't work. Interior shotty. Power steering started acting up, numerous squeaks. Then the starting began sticking, and the ignition in the dash had to be replaced at a cost of over $500. Finally traded the thing when the entire electrical system went haywire and blew the turn signals. Chevy makes good trucks; why can't they make a car? I will never own another GM car.

I originally bought this car to commute 76 miles roundtrip to work. Very comfortable, very reliable, very fuel- efficient. 70% highway driving has yielded an average of 28mpg. The only repairs needed have been a couple of recalls and a steering fix common for this generation of Malibus; otherwise just oil changes and tire rotations. Not an exciting car, but very, very practical. I had intended to sell it now that I'm retired, but I'm re- thinking that. A far better value, and a much better car, than my wife's 2006 Toyota Camry.

I purchased my Malibu after a long 3 year battle with my 2001 Saturn L-200. Great car only issue is a slight dash rattle between 50-62 mph other than that it's great. Fuel economy is awesome. Great power. Roomy interior. I noticed one individual stated that Chevys are junk and that he was going back to Toyota well go, buy foreign and push our country into more of a recession. Since I purchased the car brand new I have been to the dealer for the following problems: New rack and pinion replaced twice, 2 bald tires replaced from bad alignment, heated seats go on randomly, the radio switch on the steering wheel stopped working, and now the seat brackets broke on the drivers seat and the car was never involved in an accident. GM showed no concern for my safety and said it was not under warranty anymore! The car only has 34000 miles on it. the interior is a fake leather and shows all spots and water drops. they do not come clean. On the highway you cannot have the back windows open or there is a tunnel sound in your ears.

Just had my Malibu 2 weeks. So far I really like it. I had to bring it back to the dealer for a steering rack. Hope that fixes the noise. We took a 200 mile road trip and I got 36.8 miles per gallon. Back and forth to work (about 70% highway) I get about 31. I'm fairly pleased with that. I think the onboard computer is right on. What people don't realize is that you have to check the Department of Weights & Measures rating on the pump when you get gas. ou don't always get a gallon for a gallon. The closer it is to 12, the more accurate. I always try to fill up at stations that are rated at a 10 12. I find that the car's MPG computer seems to be really close then.

Bought this car new after looking for a replacement for my 1999 Malibu. This is the 4cyl with XM satellite radio and remote start. I took the car back to replace a visor and check out steering noise. Outstanding service. Said the steering noise was normal. Now I have 90,000 miles and just replaced front brake pads (no rotors) for the first time. Nothing else has gone wrong with this car! Tires at 63,000 miles and regular oil changes. My radio/computer says 33 mpg but my calculations indicate I get 35.7 mpg. Can the new malibu be any better? Great drive quality at 75 mph, no noise. no vibrations. Paint looks great, A/C is fantastic. Plenty of room in back seat for 3 kids. Get one!

I bought my Malibu brand new from the dealership and it has all the bells and whistles. It's been 3 years this month and I've had the steering column replaced due to a recall(after taking it 2 times to have it checked before the recall). I've had the 6 disc cd changer replaced because my disks were stuck in it, I've had to buy touch up paint because the paint jobs so thin that any brush against an object scrapes to the grey plastic and now the battery's dead in my key fob & they have to order a whole kit to replace it!! Oh, & my sunroof rattles when it's open. I'm just afraid that when my factory warranty's up, I'll be up the creek with this car!

I love my Malibu, however, I have had numerous little things go wrong. One would be the steering, which I was re-imbursed. Then the stereo. My CD is stuck in my player, and I have found out many people have this problem. It is going to cost me $500 to fix it. As far as snow driving, it rocks! Durablity interior, rocks! Comfort is good. My dash makes a lot of noises, such as vibrating noises, this is agravating. Overall 1-10 I would give it, a 6 or maybe 7. Pretty good.

I HATE this car! I bought it with only 2400 miles on it and have had it only 9 months. I have had more problems than I ever had with my 2001 Civic after 120K miles. I now have 19,000 miles and have had to get new rotors at 8,000 miles. I have been to the dealership 5 times because the car randomly turns off when I stop at redlights. The dealerships claims they can't duplicate the problem so they can't fix it. The car jolts real bad when driving at a steady 50 mph. Again the dealership "cant duplicate the problem" I demanded reprogramming of the computer and so far I have not had many problems, but then again it has only been a months since the reprogramming. Paint has also worn off radio.

We bought out Malibu a little over a year ago and loved driving it on short and long trips. Great gas mileage for its size, lots of room for people and all the stuff we carry along, and pretty comfortable on the long rides too. But the best thing about it just happened a couple of weeks ago when my wife was in a head on collision. The whole front end was smashed in and she limped away with just a broken collarbone and toe. Front and side airbags and the seatbelt did their job and now we're taking the insurance check to buy an 06 Malibu.

Sometimes the starter sticks, you may have to turn it off and restart it- sticks in the starting position. Tierods on both sides wear often-within 3000 miles. Bought car at 20000 miles and by 34000 miles had replace both tierods and steering rack. And at 37,000 miles tierods were popping again. Noise in the steering column was caused by a bad steering rack. Performance and milage excellent. Good stereo system. Bad design in frontend construction.

This car replaced my Infinity I-30, and while I have lost some of the luxury, I have gained in dependability, gas mileage, and I do like that remote start. I drive ~150 miles per day, 90% highway, and I average 35 MPG (the on-board computer shows 36.8, which is too high). Power (200HP+) is more than adequate, and hadling is exceptional for this kind of car. Currently over 70,000 miles, and no problems with the car at all. Very, very solid car - much better than any of the late GM cars I have driven. Will buy the '08, I think, when it comes out.

That noise you all here coming from the front end is your struts! I bought mine w/25k on it 10/2005 and within months had problems, had rattling since beginning, told it was nothing, now found out it was the strut (s) at 47k, had to replace all 4 brakes already, tires were shot at 40k. If it won't start just take the key out and try again, its a security feature, happens all the time! Now my tail light is not working apparently an Electrical problem! Gets good gas mileage only right after oil changes and with new tires! Better make sure you replace that air filter when it says too also! I just hit 48,000 on my Malibu and I have been very happy. For a V6 200hp I get very good mileage. I have been averaging about 30 in the summer and 25 in the winter. Some of the people that are claiming better gas mileage than this are going off of the inboard computer and the numbers are skewed a bit. I actually use a calculator and check my mileage based on my travel. I have noticed the computer is off about 2-3 mpg most of the time. The ride in the car is very good and a lot better than I thought it would be. I would replace the factory tires if you can. They aren't that great. I have had no problems with the car other than replacing the rear brake pads.

We looked at new cars and used, import, and domestic before buying our silver Malibu and haven't regretted it one second. It is a program car so we know that it's probably been driven hard and fast but it held up and is holding up. I believe mostly due to the maintenance required for program cars. There was water in the spare tire well when we bought it but the dealer had her cleaned up in a jif. The dealer thinks maybe the trunk gasket leaked while setting on the lot. We did have several inchs of rain. I've driven it once while raining and saw a cup of water in the trunk. I think it's from tire spray. It looks like GM put silicon on the joints of trunk floor where the tires are. We love our silver Malibu and will trade for another in a couple of years. Thanks GM for keeping us American!

This is the cheapest quality car I have ever owned. We decided to buy this instead of a new Accord because it saved money (a great deal after rebates). I have owned 2 Mazdas, an Altima, and a CR-V and the build quality of this car doesn't even stand up to my old '96 626. After 28k miles this car has several interior rattles, a mushy brake pedal and suspension, and overboosted steering. Everything inside the car feels and sounds cheap to the touch and the doors don't stay open by themselves even on the slightest incline. This is not a great car. It has lots of potential but GM cheaped out again. And some folks wonder why we lose to the Asian car companies. Get the Impala, it's better.

The car drives and handles very well. I have gotten as high as 37 mpg with the V6 and average around 29-32 for all around driving. The power is more than enough for accelerating and passing. Not far behind the V-6 Altima I had. The only complaint is the knocking coming from the steering area. They said it's a problem with the collapsable steering column and is a cosmetic thing. But it will cost $200-300 to fix.

I've been in for repairs for 3 items; 1/ Loose front left strut that was replaced. 2/ Shifter assembly was replaced , the manual shift mode was inoperative. 3/ Rattling sound in the steering column, It's true that GM says they do not have an effective repair yet for this problem. Hopefully the car will be reliable from now otherwise I will sell it when the warranty expires. I decided to buy the Malibu and save the 4 to 5 thousand dollars over what a comparable '05 import would have cost. The car is a great deal used but I wouldn't buy it new as the depreciation is high.

This car is great! The gas mileage is fantastic, 29-30 in mixed driving and 34-36 on the highway, with the V6! This engine is no slouch either! There are no funny noises or rattles, only quiet. Fit and finish are excellent. Very comfortable and plenty of room. I would recommend this car to anyone. Check it out before you spend too much on a Camry or Accord.

I own an '05 Malibu Maxx Hatchbox, I get fabulous gas mileage in this car. My last trip to New Orleans from Fort Worth Texas, I filled up with 15 gallons of premium gas (I fill up with premium all the time) my Malibu averaged 37.6 mpg. I saw a Mercedes commercial. If I were to buy a 50,000 e class diesel you can get 37 mpg, well let me tell you one thing ( my Malibu didn't cost me half that and I'm getting more than what their 50,000 car does on mpg. Well back to what I was typing, I filled up once on my trip to N.O. and still had nearly 200 plus miles to go! This car packs the punches at the red lights and haul's (you know what) on the highway when I'm being a bad boy.

After 3 weeks of many test drives and research the decision was far too obvious. My LS has 16,000Kms, the full airbag package, ABS, traction control, V6, OnStar. Safety rated as one of the top 6 cars and the only North American car on the list! It keeps good company with Lexus, VW, Saab, Subaru. My decision was based on safety, price, and fun to drive-ness. I got way more than that! The fit and finish on the exterior metal is amazing. It's a classy undiscovered jewel in a sea of hype and look-alikes! Check out the new Malibu. Saying its new & improved doesnt begin to do it justice. This is the best car I've ever owned, and there's been a lot!

As soon as I hit 5,000 miles all went wrong.Terrible noise and klunking in front end effects how car drives but according to GM not a safety concern.Car is getting worse over time. Dealership tells me they have orders from GM not to look at front end.GM tells me to be patient they will have a solution in 3 months or so. No biggie only dealing with this since Feb. GM not helpful at all! Now I am leaking gas out of the engine. At 6,000 miles I needed a whole new exhaust system and the steering column replaced after the steering locked up on me driving to work. But hey GM says it is safe to drive! Now the car just sits in my driveway no way I am placing my family in this car or any other GM Car

This car has poor fuel mileage, I don't care what the specs say, and I am taking into consideration that these are usually exaggerated. I traded a 2003 Mercury Sable with 40k something miles on it, thinking i would get a bit better gas mileage with a newer vehicle, six cylinder but should be better in mileage as smaller vehicle and less weight and other factors. Darn things is eating me alive, i have decided to sell the thing and am driving my other vehicle in the mean time, a 2001 Ford Taurus (73000 miles) a larger car that is getting better mileage than this thing.

This car had 8100 miles on it when we bought it in Dec. At first we had no problems but now it makes an awful noise on right side when hitting rough road or potholes. Definitely something wrong somewhere. Also a rattle in right front door (that just started). Otherwise, it's nice looking & fun to drive. Handles well on the freeway or in the city. I'm not sure at this point if I would recommend this car, & doubt if we will keep it over 3 years, if that long. We had a 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix that rode better with no rattles, but it was getting too many mechanical problems. For the price we paid, this Malibu probably isn't a bad car.

This is our third Malibu in a row we have leased. We like the car's styling, reliability, size , and comfort (although the front seats could use a little more support under the legs). The mileage is good overall (about 22mpg around town, but over 33 mpg on the highway. We like the car's little computer system it has on board, that tells you miles to go on the gas you have left, oil life indicator, dual trip milage counters, outside temp. and ice warning indicator. The trunk is very large. All in all we are very satified. We got a lot of car for $18,000 dollars, which translated to about $250 dollars a month for our lease, with zero down!

I am a big guy, 6'3" and 250 lbs. I love this car. I am on the road all the time (sales) and put tons of mileage on the car. Most of it is highway mileage. There is a lot of room in this car, far better than most of its competition. My head is nowhere near the roof! I love the adjustable pedals, when I am on the highway, I can stretch my legs all the way out, and my big feet fit behind the pedals. Very comfortable. Mucho power to pass on the highway. I too find the steering a little hard to get used to. I have figured out that if you wait longer into the turn before turning the wheel, it helps. I was used to a pickup, so this is different, but OK.

Great acceleration and gas mileage. Perhaps most importantly nowadays, it gets MUCH better gas mileage than it's competitors. The horsepower looks slightly lower than some other V-6 cars in its class but most other cars list their hp at really high rpm's (i.e. 6000+). The Malibu's 3.5 liter v-6 has a LOT more torque (which is what matters) than the engine's of its competitors. I literally get 38mpg on interstate trips with mostly flat driving when I drive conservatively.

I bought the car slightly used, a program car. The LS was the mid level car in 2005, and mine is loaded, 4 wheel disc brakes with ABS, traction control, etc. It goes down the road comfortably and quietly, and is a very nice ride. I like most everything on the car, with the exception of the electic power steering. This is a car that I can be comfortable in, even with the sunroof. I owned a 1998 Malibu earlier, and had nothing but problems with it. This redesigned Malibu, I'm hoping, will cure that bad taste left by my previous car. I think I'm going to enjoy my new Malibu. It appears to be well crafted, well put together, if not spectacular. It is a good, midsized, American car.

Needed a safe mid-size car that got great mileage. Mostly used for commuting but will carry the family on the weekends. I have over 8,000 miles on it and it has never gotten under 27 mpg. My commute is 50/50 freeway/city streets so I am very happy with the mileage. It is a very quiet car and the 4 cylinder never has me wanting more. The chasis is very european in its ride qualities with a taunt ride. This car does everything that I need of it well.

I often drive a family member's Accord, and the interior and driving feel of this car are vastly superior. People are reluctant to say it's better than Camry and Accord due to their long reputation of excellence, but from what I've seen they are slipping and the Malibu is a much better choice.

I considered this car and the '05 Camry LE. GM's employee pricing promotion and the Malibu's excellent ride & handling balance ended up being the deciding factors because the two cars were a wash in areas like assembly quality, interior comfort, materials quality, quietness, and styling. The Camry has a slight edge in trunk room and rear seat legroom, but not enough of one to justify the price difference. Overall, the Malibu is a comfortable, fun to drive sedan with materials and assembly quality equal to that of the Camry. Also, so far (with 2600 miles on the odometer), it has been trouble- free. If you're shopping the Camry, shop the Malibu, too. It might surprise you---it did me.

Looked and drove Malibu LS and I was sold and very glad I went with it (saved some cash too!). Just turned over 10k miles today and ZERO problems/issues. Car is solid and I cannot beleive the gas mileage for a 200hp 6-cyl (ave 28.8 miles per gallon city/highway. The good old USA is back! I was very skeptical at first moving back to American cars again, but I should not be. With what is going on in the world today, I'm very proud to say I have an American owned companies car! I just bought my first Chevy two weeks ago. I had Toyotas for about 20 years and then I had a Ford Ranger truck. My truck got rear ended and was in the shop. I got a rental and it happened to be a Chevy Malibu. I had it for about a week and fell in love with it. At the same time Chevy had the employee discount price going on so I decided to see if I could get one. I also got the choice of a $2000 rebate or 0% financing so I chose the 0% financing. I am thrilled with my new car.

I was looking for a vehicle that got better gas mileage than my old Ranger, and ended up with so much more. This car has a great interior with very comfortable seats. It handles great on the road, but the electronic power steering is almost too good. You have to pay extra attention to avoid accidental drift. The extra amenities that come standard are incredible. I'm 6'4", so the power adjustable pedals and telescoping steering wheel are GREAT. And I was absolutely shocked at the acceleration. When you put your foot down, this car goes. And when other cars tend to whine out, this car just keeps going. So fast in fact, that when accelerating out of turns you must really be on your toes.

Bought used. Great car; haven't had any problems. Pick up is great. Feels more powerful than 200hp. Brakes feel strong with no fade and are easy to modulate. Steering is nice with little effort needed for parking lot speeds and tightens nicely as you pick up MPH. Handling is okay for a sedan. There is some body roll on faster turns but the car feels solid and I haven't heard any noises from the car that there shouldn't be. Needs better tires! It's not a sports car but it would handle better without any squealing if there was better rubber; however, the tires are good for absorbing rougher roads. Suspension helps isolate really well and the seats are comfortable. I definitely recommend it.

Unlike some of the critics, I like the feel and smoothness of the ride. I don't expect a Nascar ride, ie, not a lot of speed. It has enough pickup to get up to the speed laws. Got a good employee discount and better yet no hassling. It turns good at corners. So far, and too soon to tell, it has no mechanical problems. So I would recommend giving it a try. GM is not all that bad, foreign cars have their quirks. Gas mileage is as good as any car depending on driver's habits. Tires are good, but you may want better if you drive a lot in snow. Like the drivers hooked mat, keeps from moving around back of pedals.

The Malibu was not built to last. The brake system should be retested on the 2005 Malibu basic sedan. Some of the interior parts started falling apart. The passenger flap visor fell off the second week of our purchase. The driver's side floor panel is too close to the gas pedal. It constantly became loose if it touched too much. We bought this for our kids to share, getting 29 miles per gallon. It's very safe and solid, so no fear of injury if they are in an accident. It's roomy inside to fit all of their "stuff", and still be safe in travel. It has a good warranty, and the seats fold to fit band instruments. The 4 cylinder runs great and still had enough power to get a speeding ticket. My wife even drove it for three months to work and loved it for the size and comfort. Thinking of sending this with the college boys and buying a second for the high schooler, but hate the thought of all the dings in the college lot. This is why we looked for reliable and inexpensive. We went with the LS - 6 Cylinder, a much quieter engine, with good HP, and gets 32 MPG Highway. Body style is nice, reminds me of a Cadillac CTS. It's built on the Saab Epsilon chassis. The salesman gave me the keys and we took it for a test drive. I was so impressed, I had to drag my wife in a few days later. She never liked American cars, especially Chevy's. Despite her resentment, once she got in the Malibu, she loved it, too. We drove around for ten minutes and that was all it took. Chevy really did a great job n the Malibu! We've had it for four months now and we love it!

I love this car, Super gas mileage, 30+ in suburban driving, 36+ on a highway trip. The 4cylinder has plenty of zip for any normal driving. The V6 models must be real performers. Electric power steering is really great. Get a GM credit card and save more money. I have friends with Honda Acords that have had several problems, but I have had none. Chevy gets an A+ with the new Malibu.

I've had my new car only 3 weeks and have drivne it about 1,000 miles. Gas mileage is not what I expected, but I think the reason is I've only driven in the city. Maybe it'll change for the better on the highway. From driving a mini-van for many years, this mid-size is not bad. I can get in and out from tight spaces, and it maneuvers very well. Side view mirrors are not easy to adjust (for me). You can't see cars as they get close to pass you. Had a close call.

GM rebates and other incentives convinced me that I could be happy with this stylish domestic vehicle. The ride is excellent, with the Saab platform. The 4 cyl. is a bit of a dog but the mileage I'm getting is worth overlooking this (28 ave., city.) The seats are comfortable and the instrumentation is easily reached and visually convenient. Real nice sound system for an "aging rocker"! Lot's of backseat and truck space in addition to the spacious front cabin area. Handling is adequate as are the brakes. The Malibu meets my realistic expectations of a quality car. It is not however, my Camry.

Well I have only had this vehicle going on a month now, but so far it is okay. The 05 model appealed to me because it was stylish and spacious at the same time. I really like the chrome details, especially on the black and red. My family and I are tall, so for us to fit comfortably is important. The only thing is, without looking at the logo this car can be mistaken for many others out there. Also by purchasing a 4cyl, I saved money, but was surprised by the amount of power the car still has for it only to be a 4cyl. The gas mileage is great.

This is definitely the car for me. I am getting 33.9 mpg on the highway and 27.8 in the city. The new electronic power steering is great, no dead space when wheel is at center. I live in Southern Wisconsin and this car tracks great in the snow and ice. Select shift transmission makes slippery take offs a snap. Traction control works very well. Factory installed keyless remote start sure makes window scraping a breeze. Not to mention heated seats in cloth. Don't have to have leather if you don't want it. The shift into passing gear is extremely smooth, don't get a big head jerk as the car gears down. Plenty of passing power on the interstates. I highly recommend this car to anyone.

It can hold its own against both the Accord (I owned a 2001) and the Camry but at thousands less. I was able to purchase this vehicle at $2500 under invoice, by far the most bang for your buck in this segment. This car is loaded: heated and power seats, heated outside mirrors, XM radio, everything you could want. GM quality has improved substantially along with interior styling. 5 years ago I don't think I would have considered a Chevy, but now they hold their own against the best. Ride is excelllent, acceleration admirable. The only gripe I have is that it would be nice to have a few more pieces of accent trim.

The mileage is as advertised and thats at 75mph on the highway. I love the suspension, the quiet ride, the XM radio. I got it loaded other than the OnStar. The engine is a champ. I bought the Malibu because I average around 20,000 miles per year and wanted a car that can hold four 6' plus adults comfortably and do it getting great gas mileage. I used to drive a S-10 Blazer and with high gas prices I wanted something more economical. The Malibu LT gets better gas mileage than anything in it's class, very reasonable priced and has remote start which my wife loves. Overall I am very happy with the car and would buy it again.

I have 2 issues with this vehicle, and neither can seem to be cured by GM or the dealer. First, the car just wanders all over the road. You need to constantly adjust the steering wheel to keep it in the center of the lane. and up until the first snow storm in my area, I didnt have any other issues and would have lived with the other, but when we had our first snow storm, the windshield wipers showed there problem. For some reason, and I cant understand why no one else seems to notice this, is that the passenger windshield wiper wipes the water right onto the view of the driver, and seems to fall right between my eyes. I get a headache everytime I drive the car. Not a good selling point.

This car is built relatively well. The body seems to be substantial and fit is good for the price. The car drives adequately well, but that's about it. Many driving characteristics are fair at best. Handling lacks feel for the road and the car seems to levitate/drift at upper highway speeds. Acceleration is a bit sluggish yet. Braking feels very "all or none." On the inside, the seats are okay--a bit wobbly as you shake them but OK. The sound system is decent but defintiely not great. Controls are a bit tougher to reach than would be ideal. Still it seems to hold together. Relatively smart looking instrument panel. Not a bad car for the price, but definitely not extraordinary.

I bought this car for safety and fuel economy reasons but it's a whole lot more than that. It's a fun car to drive! It's got great acceleration when you need it and if you don't have a heavy foot you can see 30miles/gallon combined and 40miles/gallon highway. The electric power assist steering is wonderful. However, we just received a "voluntary customer satisfaction" notice in the mail that they have had some problems with a sensor in the steering wheel and on some units they have to replace the steering wheel. This is a warranty item and they will test and replace through 1/31/06 if needed. Great handling and ride with the Saab Chassis. Overall a great car

The new Malibu is a bargain with the GM discounts and rebates. You get a 200 hp V6, 6 disc CD, sunroof, power seats, and premium wheels for about $18,000. The cars run well on the highways. A recent trip where I averaged 68mph (260 mile drive) I got 36+mpg. WOW. Road noise is fair, acceleration is fun, the car has a lot of jump.

This is our first "Low priced" car in many years and we are amazed at how well we like it. We can't understand why your "Pros" don't rate this car higher. We find the steering and brakes to be excellent. It is a great size for around town and still does well on the highway. We are thinking about trading one of our other cars for a second Malibu. Everything on our car works as it should and it has never been back to the shop. We like the OnStar, XM radio, remote starting etc. All around good balance. Car is tight and quiet. More than worth the money. Highly recommend it.

Purchased on a Friday in Aug 2004. Left for a 3 week plus driving vacation on the following Monday. Averaged 28 MPG through all terrain. Put on over 4000 miles over the time period. The only drawback I have discovered is the RAPID decline of the initially GREAT ride. I would compare the initial ride to an Infiniti, but now it's like any other car I have owned.

This is the best car I have ever owned. I traded in a 2001 Malibu, which I thought was great. This car is light years ahead of the 2001 I had. Unbeliveably, the bigger engine is giving much better mileage than I got on the 2001. The 2001 delivered 26 mpg and so far the 2005 (according to the onboard computer)is giving me 29.7 mpg. That is from day one till now, 1,100 miles later. I've had the car 6 weeks now and it just keeps getting better and better.

I am thrilled that for less then 25k I bought a mid-size sedan that both my husband and I are comfortable in. Finally a vehicle designed for someone short. I am just barely over 5 feet and every other car I have ever owned I can not help but sit dangerously close to the steering wheel. In my last car there was less then 6 in. between myself and the steering wheel. The Malibu has the adjustable pedals and telescoping steering wheel, allowing me to sit at an arms length from the steering wheel. My husband is 6 foot and it fits him as well. Finally an affordable car for those of us not average.

Recently bought the 2005 LT model. The car is excellent, smooth on the road, lots of interior space and is fun to drive. In the short time I've had it I'm getting about 26 mpg city and 31.7 highway. Prior to buying, I had read reviews giving the car high ratings, and reviews saying the car is so-so, and that Honda (Accord) and Toyota (Camry) have nothing to worry about when compared to the Malibu. All I can say that after comparing all three and now owning the Malibu, the Malibu can easily hold its own against the Accord & Camry.

This car was marketed to me as a European design with European type quality. After owning several German cars and being quite satified, I was a bit hesitant buying a Chevy. However, I got a GM discount & solid rebates which sweetened the deal considerably. I pulled the trigger on the Malibu and now have buyer's remorse. I should have went with my gut. The car is subpar when compared to it's foreign peers. Average quality at best. I've had the car in 3 times for brake problems. The dealer finally replaced all four assemblies. Bottom Line: the car is ok if you get a discounted deal.

My last car was a Pontiac Grand Am so I made a conscious decision to buy a more powerful car and I definitely got it! As a recent college graduate, this car is decidedly more grown-up without having the stuffiness of it's larger counterpart, the Chevy Impala. Good stereo, comfy seats, and ample leg room make this a good choice. I usually get 22-25 mpg with city driving.

So far (I've only had the car for five weeks and 1100 miles) this car is great. It's very quiet and smooth. Interior comfort is great due to the power seat; adjustable pedals; telescoping and tilting wheel (with all those features there's no way not to find a comfortable position). Fuel economy for a 3000+ lb sedan is great (I average about 27.3 mpg overall). The only thing I think could be changed is the gas pedal. To me, it feels like you have to push it down a little too much before it throttles up. There's plenty of power after you do, but it feels like it could use some adjusting. Overall, my wife and I enjoy the car a great deal. You can feel the touch of a Saab in the drive.

I have a long commute to work so I wanted something economical, safe, comfortable, quiet and with some spunk. I also wanted something with enough space to offer some versatility for longer road trips and for hauling people and things around. This car has all this and for thousands less than a comparably equipped Accord, Camry or Maxima. The only thing that Chev should really try to improve is the front suspension. It's not bad but it does not feel as solid as with many of the competitive models. Overall, a great value for a mid-sized car.

Very quiet interior. Lot of standard options for the price. No real problems so far. Dont like the upgraded radio, only real complaint at higher speed radio turns up to high automatically can't hear passengers talking . I just traded in my 2002 SUV for a more economical car. Versus other cars in this midsize sedan category, I like the solid feel of this vehicle. The interior is much better than some I have seen. It is stylish and fun to drive. I am VERY happy with the gas mileage. It is loaded with a lot of neat extras that I enjoy such as the Driver information center. I am very happy with my decision to move to a 4 cylinder. When asked to, it will scoot! Great pricing, plus GM rebates, make this an affordable vehicle to own. Maintenance is a breeze as well - very affordable.

I love driving my Malibu! I traded a Malibu 2002 LS for this Malibu. The Chevy Malibu line has improved immensely! My new Malibu is an excellent handling automobile. I enjoy driving it every time I get behind the wheel! As a bonus, I receive many compliments on the design ....I am really very happy that I own this car!

I was given this car as a rental while my trusty VW Golf was in the shop. This Chevy drives like a wet sponge. The steering wheel turns as lightly as a phone dial, but the way you turn it doesn't have much in common with the direction the car will go. Turn the wheel a bit to the side and the car will stoically go straight. According to the manual it comes with a 200hp V6 engine. Those 200 horses have been hidden well. When driving off from a red light the 90hp Golf Diesel feels livelier (and it gets you almost twice as far on one tankload). In terms of design, be informed that what looks like cheap plastic is cheap plastic indeed. The engineers must have slept soundly the past decade.

Have had the car since late July. The car is comfortabe on long road trips and the highway fuel economy is great (33-35 mpg on regular gas). Initial overall quality has been exellent. The new 3.5L V6 engine is very responsive.

After driving this car for a couple weeks I feel the car is considerably under rated by the editors. Drives great, overall quiet smooth operation, brakes have excellent feel and action. The car makes driving fun again. The entire car has the quality and feel of a higher priced vehicle. A joy to drive.

This car is great - the seats are beautiful. Fuel economy for the power is better than my 4cyl - especially on the highway! Took a while, but now I really like the look of the car. Mine is white w/neutral leather interior. Nice! Problems are lots of little rattles which drive me nuts. Wish the car had more "status". Starting to see some base models as rental. Chev should only use the "Classic" as rentals to elevate this model's status. Overall an extremely good value, content & performance, & reliability for the buck!

Fabulous!

I researched this car for what seemed like years and my homework paid off. We love our Malibu, Stella. She is fun to drive, she turns heads, she is fast and easy to steer. I would recommend doing your shopping online and getting financing somewhere else. It saves so much hassle, even though you have to say no a million times to the sales guy and the closer. You can get a much better deal this way though and it's fun to watch them squirm.

I bought this car with the intention of putting alot of miles on it. Its looks are great and i never fail to get stares. However the build quality is not good. I have sveral dash rattles and my air conditioning occasionally quits working. My shifter is loose and rattles over the smallest potholes. The gas mileage is great. I have no problems hanging with mustang gt's.

A truly fun car to drive. All interior controls in close proximity to the driver. On one 400 mile trip with AC used sparingly, the car averaged 38 mpg. There is plenty of cargo space. Air conditioning with outside air at 93 degrees on maximum brought in 40 degree air easily cooling off the car. A great car .

Car performs well, the four clyinder engine performs as well as the V6 engine. Fuel economy is excellent. The front seat area is slightly smaller than previous model years, also the back seat is smaller. Added features such as info is nice to have. Overall the car is excellent. The new design is great and looks great.

I like the car but the power steering was a great problem. The steering wheel would move on its own (pulsating) and locked up on two occasions. The entire steering column had to be replaced. I was very disappointed in getting the car fixed. parts were not available and it took 10 days to get the car out of the service department. Pretty good car -- terrible service makes for an unhappy owner.

I drive the malibu MAXX LT, a well constructed and appointed car..lots of room, mileage is good ( better than my Honda), and the power is more than adequate...the car is one of GM's gems and should set the standard for midsize sedans with a hatchback all at a cost far below the Japanese cars.

I am a Big Guy and I drive a Chevy Silerado, and the Family car is the Malibu. I was very suprised at the amount of room in the car. It fits me like a glove and can that Malibu move down the road. The ride is superb for a mid size and it handles well. The electric steering is very sensitive, requiring little effort. My wife and teenage daughter love the look and the way it drives also. We drove it on vacation and averaged 28 mpg on the interstate, mountains, and city. We drove the speed limit and then some. The only complaint is that the interior could use a little upgrade to make it more asthetically pleasing. Over all a wonderful vechile

My Malibu is a great sedan for comfortable and economical transportation. The engine is a real world work horse that has good torque and all the pick up you need. There's no apparent performance degradation when pulling the AC and it can climb the steepest hills without having to drop gears and run the engine hard. Runs on regular unleaded with no performance loss. Gas mileage is great. On an all freeway trip driving 1,499 mi from WA to AZ I used 43.8 gallons of gas for 34.2 mpg. Average speed on the info readout was 69 mph, on the highway I usually had the cruise set at 76mph.

I leased this car in April of 2004. I really like its looks however the build quality is hoorible. I have 5200 miles and I have had the heater stop working for 2 days, the temp gauge works when it wants to, and I have heard loud sporadic valve noise on occasions. I have more interior rattles tahn my 1990 towncar had-many more. It is usally hard starting especially when hot. _ Keep in mind this car has 5200 miles.

with less than 500 hundred miles it has been in the servcie repair twice due to stalling when stopping at traffic light, no one can seem to find the problem. The dealship states this is the second Malibu to come in with the problem. the dealership is being very helpful and nice and doing there best to correct the problem. Genral Motors is not helping them though.
