Here's the deal. Could just be mine, I see all the great reviews, and the fact its a 2005 got some years and miles on it, we have a to put a new transmission in it, new water pump ( I know water pump is not uncommon ) Gone through several bad thermostats, from the chevy dealer,New tires( I know maintenance as well) New Radiator, now it's in the shop getting a rebuilt damn engine because the gaskets blew and cracked the engine too much antifreeze got spread throughout, oh yea and I have replaced the AC air compressor. The one belt, hoses and of course plugs and wires, except for the on side of my car that hasn't been in a wreck this car will be brand new, it has bleed me DRY. I will say it's comfortable. spacious, great for traveling, good highway mileage ( when it ran well) frame and body held up well when someone side swiped me. I refuse to buy a new car on principle because it's paid off and the fact its not worth more then flipping 1500/2500 blue book due to miles age. Plus the fact it's paid off am I am poor as hell now. I bought this car in 2010. I am glad some people have had good luck with them I see them driving all over town and I think of stealing their parts just in case... if you haven't bought one and are thinking about it I hope you have better luck then I did!

The run down for my 2005 Chevrolet Impala base 3400: The car was purchased in January 2008 with 65,000 miles on it. I paid $5,400 TTL and is now at 150,000 miles on the same engine, transmission, cat converter, ect. I have done the shocks, brake pads, and basic maintenance such as new AC Delco spark plugs, wires, radiator hoses, oil changes, transmission service (pan drop and filter change), coolant change, replaced the water pump, and I did a head gasket (my fault, I let the car get hot when I was in college). This car is a very comfortable, reliable and all around grate value vehicle. It is my daily driver and I intend to keep it a while longer. It still drives great and I take in on my 'road trips' where I go see my family 250 miles away traveling on I-35 going 80ish mph here in Texas (speed of traffic). The ride is great, the seats are comfortable, the car is easy to work on, the car is comprised of 'old' technology making it cheap and a large comunity out there which has already encountered most of the problems you will find - see impala forums or other sites which use you engine - in my case the 60*V6 3400 3.4. I will say the interior plastic feels cheap. The center console does squeak a bit if you use it to get yourself into the car. I have since cracked (small) the dash panel (which is also the radio bezel - it's all one piece) from taking it out so many times and not being careful - I changed the instrument cluster, and added a nice aftermarket radio as well as installing my old radio to program key fobs. Which leads me to another point: You can buy aftermarket (cheap) key fobs and program them to your vehicle via the stock radio. I did this to program key fobs to my other w-body (04 Grand Prix GT) which was nice and saves me money. Also keys can be programed to the car very easily - I just buy cheap ebay keys with chevy logos and go to home depot and have them cut - yes they can cut them even though there is a chip inside. The fuel take has access via the trunk if you ever need to replace the fuel pump (I have not) so that's a plus - where I am going is that they did engineer this car the be worked on rather easily. Cost and my 2c: Ok so here's the run down: Car $5400 TTL Ins for 8 Years $500/year = $4000 Repairs to the car $3000 Tires in this time frame: $1000 I'm sure I'm missing a few small things here or there but look at the bigger picture: Total over the 8 years $13,400 so 13400/8 = $1,675/year (but again this includes everything) Now I got rear ended and they hit the frame so it totaled the car but I bought it back and I got $3,600 for it back (this is was in summer of 2014) So total for me*** is $9,800 for the 8 years. You could this of this as you as well (as if you sold it - they valued it at 4600 and -1000 buy back) So 9800/8 = $1,225/year :) great 'investment' I still have the car and it's running strong. If you don't like the interior, swap in stuff from a 2000-2005 monte carlo. I plan on adding a few things from one soon - I already took an instrument cluster from a monte carlo which had RPM. MPG: I get what EPA says I should. 2016 Easter weekend, I got 32.xxxxx driving on the crumby I-35 traveling around 70-80mph (all highway and miles from trip divided by fuel into tank - I also always fill up and the same fuel station and fuel pump) Seats: Cloth. Don't knock it! They still look great save for the drivers which doesn't 'look' bad but when your not sitting in it, you can see part of the lower cushion's cloth doesn't lay flat against the cushion.

Big surprise...

I grew up in a Chevy family. I've owned so many and beat the heck out of them, especially in my teen years and early 20's, but they never let me down. Even if they blew up, I always got my money's worth and then some. This time I lose. When my Cavalier broke down after over 10 years of faithful service of taking quite a beating, and right at tax time, I figured I needed to upgrade anyway. After all, our second child would be here soon, and we welcomed the extra space. Went and looked at the Impala, drove it and rushed my decision. The radio was the first to go, for some reason it locked, and wasn't worth the fee to unlock it, so we upgraded it. Then so much was going on with having a newborn and a toddler I didn't have time to have things checked out, like why it shifts so hard from second to third gear unless I'm flooring it. A few months after buying it, we found out the head gasket was bad...while stranded on the highway with two cranky children. In the dozen years or so I've been going to him, he's never let me down...I should have called. My mechanic reminded me that he's always there to answer questions and give advice on cars to buy, and while this one would put money in his pocket, he would have told me not to buy it. Come to find out, the slight "airy" sound was also the intake gasket. Luckily, since you had to dismantle one to get to the other, it was next to nothing extra to do them both versus doing them separately. The transmission problem was also very common, and needed to be rebuilt. He recommended selling it immediately or driving it until it died and then getting something else. The best feature is the radio.

I bought my '05 Impala 3.4 after losing my first car in an accident. I was quite surprised by how solid the car was. It had 139000 miles on it, and was mostly clean and cared for. Only had to replace a few things, as is normal for a used, ten year old car. My friends and I love the car, and it's far more comfortable than what they drive (One has an '07 Camry, which felt awfully stiff to me). The stereo is great and the sound quality is clear. It had an issue for a while where the CD would skip 5-10 seconds of a song. Drive it to college and work on a daily basis, and it just keeps on going, no matter what happens. Very reliable, although gas mileage could've been made better. Pros: Feels like a couch Responsive and accelerates quickly (For gearheads) Great engine sound and pretty good performance for a sedan Great stereo Transmission is quick and smooth Looks great in gray Cons: MPG is a bit sub-par Only one key, trunk needs a separate key. Probably can't get it when buying used. Can be a bit bouncy on hard bumps.

I have a 2005 base model Impala with 210k miles on it. Ive only had 3problems with it. A fuel pressure regulator ($50), Catalytic Converter ($250) and my cruise control hasn't worked in approx 3 weeks. I own 2 other vehicles a expedition and a 2011 convertible Camaro SS with all the bells and whistles imaginable. This may sound a bit nuts, but I prefer the Impala, the ride is so much more comfortable not to mention 29mpg. I drive it everyday it hasn't given me any problems (its well maintained) and i expect to last at least another 130k. If you had problems with this vehicle, you probably didn't care for it as well as you could have.

I purchased the extended warranty which gave me coverage to 60,000 miles. I loved this car until the problems began. I have replaced tie rods which failed just out of warranty. My biggest problem has been whenever there is a hard, fast rain, the front floor passenger floor fills with water. It happened at least half a dozen times. My dealer said they could do nothing since there was no water when they looked at it. After my warranty expired, my speakers stopped working. The radio is fine, but no sound. There is also no dinging sound for low fuel... Now, at 95,000 miles, my transmission is slipping. I've been told it could be just clogged fuel line. Don't know what to buy next.

I bought this car in 2011 with 54k miles on it. I now have ~78k and it has just been one problem after another since day one. Huge lack of power, stopping on a slight incline on the road would cause me to roll backward when releasing the brake. Transmission jumps and skips. Can't get it to start 85% of the time. Fuel regulator began spitting out gasoline at 60k ($180 fix). Tie rods are crap. Wiper motor is seized. Heat randomly shuts on and off.

Bought my '05 Impala in January of 2006, it was used with 17k miles. As of now, it has 198k miles. Sad to say, those miles are starting to show. There's a lot of 'nickle and dime' stuff going out (windows roll down, but not up, gauges get stuck, and other things), but she's been a good car for 6+ years and 175k miles. It's time to hand it off to the kids for their school car. If you're looking for a status symbol, the Impala isn't it. If you're looking for a good solid car that will get you to point A to point B, it gets the job done.

I bought this car in 2007. It was 2005 and had 14k what a deal I thought. At 50k I had to replace the motor. It had an issue that the dealer stated *Never happens* now at 115k the car needs a new transmission and will not pass emissions. I still owe a years payments on this car. I contacted GM, they apparently do not care that they make crap! Every year I owned this pile I have dumped too much money into it. Engine, suspension, exhaust, tie rod ends, not to mention the regular maintenance. If I could go back I would have bought the Dodge instead. Never will I waste money on a GM vehicle.

Bought this car in 2007 with 30,000 lease miles on it. Didn't fall in love with it right away, but with low miles, V6, and low pricing ($13,999) too good to pass up. Two weeks ago, at 167,000 mi., I totaled it. Most reliable car I ever owned. It did dent easy and speedometer reliability was getting to be spotty, but this was "Old Trusty" for at least 120,000 miles. Great for carting around big teenagers. Would buy another low mileage Impala in a heartbeat.

My Impala is the most worthless hunk of metal I have ever owned. 05 seems like a bad year for most every car company, but this one is just horrible. It dies at random, the transmission is terrible, it dents SO easily and the AC/Heat AND the fans go out constantly, and those are expensive fixes. I want rid of this headache and I'll never own another older impala again.

All I can say is the car is fantastic. Okay those of you that read this review. If you ever buy an earlier Impala. Buy one with a 3.8 okay. They have the fewest of problems. My big plus with the vehicle is the reliability! I mean problems I have seen on this forum are probably really picky people. Although if you look at it. My 2005 Impala has always been reliable. Never broken down before ever!! I love this car and recommend that if you buy this car. Buy one with a 3.8. If you buy a newer Impala do not buy the 3.9 engine. Get the one with the 3.6 liter. Hope this helps you all.

I bought this car 3 years ago in hopes i would have a good car I drove out of the dealer and the car was pulling to the right bad. I took it back a couple days later to have them tell me it was something called torque steer. It turned out to be a wheel bearing. I replaced it on my own the dealer didn't pay for it and don't you know that torque steer was no longer there. I replace wheel bearings every 6mo. About 4 months later my radio started making crazy noises even when the car was off and all doors were closed. The radio stopped working all together a short time later. Then i noticed puddles of water on the floor in the back seat dont have a clue where its coming from. My dash goes crazy

I bought a 2005 Impala as a program car that year and it had 28K. It's 2011 and now has 106K. Total crapper. While it's not a bad car to drive around in the city or highway and has pretty generous space, the reliability has totally put me off GM cars for good. I seem to have at least 1-2 major repairs on it per year and my next big one is coming up like clockwork. Woohoo...water heater pump, power steering pump, now fuel pump have all gone out. The heating system also failed. The transmission has a tendency to slip. The instrument cluster has all reset themselves at random intervals, then gone back to being fine. My husband drives a same year Camry and it's night and day more reliable!

This car has been a nightmare since I bought it. The transmission slipped the first day I had it. I had a to replace the converter, thermostat (5 times), had the entire system flushed over 50 times, and the blower motor resistor 2 times, not including the water pump, and O2 sensor. It is pretty bad that the car is constantly overheating, with no heat in the car. When the blower motor resistor goes you have to disconnect the battery because their is no other way to turn off the fan. It will continue to blow even if the key is out. It will not stop even after hours.

This car is honestly the best vehicle I have ever owned. I purchased it in mid-2009 with 52,000 miles on it and it now has 95,000 miles. The only problem I have had thus far was with the instrument panel, but that was fixed under warranty. It has been 100% reliable, always starts, always runs well. I have run full synthetic oil in it since day 1. I have taken this car on several long trips and it is super comfy and has gotten 31 mpg driving at 75 mph. The power is substantial, but I will opt for the 3.8 next time around. Overall this car is hard to beat. Power, comfort, reliability, and great gas mileage for a huge car! A+

I just purchased my 2005 Chevy Impala SS. I've only had it a short time and really love it. I'm an enthusiast and this car meets most of my high standards. It has plenty of room for my 2 kids, huge truck, and it's a great car for a 45 year old dad. I bought it with 31,000 miles and have to say this Impala is of few that are truly worthy of the legendary SS badge dating back 50 years. if you find one of these with low miles, grab it, they are now hard to find and will be future collections. Bravo GM you did this one right.

I really can't find anything about my Impala that I don't like. It is comfortable driving, I have good visibility, use my cruise control on highway and have only had the usual maintenance done and the history the maintenance was done when specified. I would recommend buying this car to anyone wanting a comfortable, safe car especially those who travel a lot. Had back problems with other cars, not with my Impala, has a Lumbar adjustment in drivers seat. Love driving my car.

I purchased my 2005 Impala used in 2006, with 20,000 miles. Since than I have had to replace the water heater, radiator, cost of 1300.00. Dealer did not volunteer any additional information about this issue. Since than my speedometer and RPM gauge cluster went out another 600.00. not to mention my traction issue that was another 700.00. Oh, and when they say they checked your fluids I think they just look at them because at my last oil change 2 months ago they never said I was low on anything. I found my coolant to be low.And I don't understand how they overlooked an interior light other than the miniscule lights built in the mirror I will never buy a Chevy again.

I've always been a Toyota guy (celicas and camry) but this car changed my mind. As soon as I drove it, I loved it. The front bench seat is so comfy and roomy. No bucket seats that usually restrict my legs and you feel closer to the passenger with no divider (I guess that only matters if you like the passenger). The ride is smooth - soft without being too "floaty" like the big chevy boats of the past. I love the steering on this car, very responsive. The 3.4 base engine has enough power when you need it and gets surprisingly good mileage for a big car. You can see how safe the car is when you look under the hood. Major bracing and crumple features. I got the black with spoiler and sunroof

GM has, for years, been having electrical issues, primarily with the instrumentation and blower controls. Our Impala has suffered such a nasty fate. First the speedometer found 6 o'clock and never again moved. Then the Fuel gauge pegs out.($1500 to fix) Then blower motor becomes intermittent, then quits, then smokes. FIRE. The net is full of complaints just like ours. This all starts about 60K miles. Plenty of used for sale, no wonder, so steer clear. If you're an Electrical Engineer and have a fire fighters job, this car is for you.

Bought my impala in 2005 used with 25K on it. Paid $11,900, and five years later car has 170K and still going strong. Had transmission rebuilt at around 125K miles, but other than that no repairs other than routine maint. The overall cost of ownership for the last five years has remained extremely low. Not the most flashy car for sure, but the most reliable car I have ever owned.

I would recommend the Impala to anyone. It has a really cushy ride without being too soft and floaty. The steering is effortless. The seats are extremely comfortable and I love the bench seat. It's much more comfortable than a bucket that is restricting if you have longer legs. The stereo with factory pre-amp is delightful. Gas mileage is impressive for such a big car, I'm getting an average of over 27 MPG with about 1/2 city driving. 4-wheel ABS disc brakes are smooth as silk. Engine seems solid and purrs. I have been a Toyota celica/camry guy for decades now but this car won me over. Congratulations to Chevy for making a car worthy of American label. I love this car.

Locale is west coast Canada. Bought ex-lease with 25,000 km for $16,000 CDN. Warranty trans replace, 6 mo. to track down engine misfire to sensor on crank. This is an excellent car once problems are solved (but make sure you have a warranty! Bretts in Chilliwack persisted in tracking down the problems). Comfortable interior--best seats for long trips to Oregon and California of any car we've owned; huge trunk; handles well for a car with such a soft ride (once I replaced Firestones with Michelin ZX's); engine does not use oil. I am giving this car to my son for a wedding present and we'll miss it, but I feel assured that he will be safe because it's a big car with lots of metal!

The Impala is not the fanciest car out there but it's super reliable and solid sedan. I had no problems with this car other than ordinary maintenance and it had 105,000 miles on it. It's built so you can do most fixes by yourself.

I recently purchased this car. I love the ride, the style, and the performance. It has around 70,000 miles, and no rattles or squeaks! And while I've had it only a short time (just over a month), I was quite surprised by the low fuel economy. Even while staying off the boost, the MPG is still pretty lousy. I had a 3.8 in a 97 Pontiac GP, and got much, much better mileage. But I guess thats the price one pays for performance! Other than the mileage, no problems at all!

I traded in my Dodge caravan for an 05 impala. This is the most uncomfortable car. The cushion pad on right of seat is higher than left, making me sit crooked. If I scoot to left to even out, steering wheel and pedals too far to right, hurting my hip and leg. If legs are comfy to pedals, arms are stretched to wheel, and vice versa. Have to choose sore legs or arms. I cannot find a comfy position for driving this car. I have tried to trade this in for anything at several dealers, but they cant do it. My hip and legs are so so sore when I get out of this car from driving. Am I stuck with a car I hate driving. I want my van back.

We purchased our Impala in 2005 when it was less than 1 year old. 5 years later and over 100k miles later it's still a phenomenal vehicle. It is comfortable and roomy. The ride is smooth and engine has a lot of get-up! The stereo is great. Most importantly, it has been a wonderful, reliable family car. We have had zero (non- normal) repairs. Despite the fact that I personally like the look of some of the Nissan and Toyota's more I'm pretty certain my next car will be another Chevrolet (Malibu).

I wanted an Impala and now I don't. It handles great but the transmission likes to slip a lot. The starter sticks for a few seconds after it has already been started. Have to jump the battery every 4-6 weeks because it likes to randomly die. Alternator shop said it is not the alternator, most likely an electrical short. I have never replaced anything electrical on it so I myself didn't short it out. Engine is sluggish. Also the heater doesn't work half the time. Black trim on outside is already faded. Otherwise the rest is fine but as much trouble as I have had, I will never buy one again.

I've owned this car for about a year now and it has been great! The only thing I have had to replace is rear brakes and the front rotors probably need replacing or at least to be turned down - minor for a vehicle approaching 100,000 miles. The 3.4L provides more than adequate performance and exceptional gas mileage. I actually do get 24-32mpg. This car is extremely smooth, roomy, fun to drive, comfortable for someone who is 5'1" and the stereo is the best! It makes me wonder why the Consumer Review mags refuse to acknowledge a quality American-made vehicle - consumer rating for the Impala have always been above "editors" reviews. For some reason, they would rather promote Toyota, Honda, etc.

This 3.8 v-6 Engine is well known to run over 300,000 miles which is why i bought it i have always owned Gm and have had almost complete success. I made sure i got the 3.8 cause the 3.4 was well known to have problems. i had a 1993 grand prix with the 3.4 with many problems. other than that, the other 6 GM cars I've owned i have run well over 200k miles EACH. I do most of the work on my own cars and have only replaced an hvac temperature sensor for the drivers side in my impala in the two years I've owned it (except oil changes of course). fuel economy is not as good as newer models but they reduced the cars size a lot on 2006 and later models. i am very satisfied. a malibu will be next.

I purchased the 2005 Impala for two reasons: First its Reliability/Outstanding Crash Test (its line has been around at least once every decade since the 1950s). The 3.8 Liter engine is more reliable than the 3.4 Liter engine. Second is the Available Standard Features (More on that later). The Impala drives more like a Luxury Sports Sedan not as a Mid-Size Sedan. I needed a reliable car to take me to and from work, and with the Impala I am actually enjoying it very much. I test driven Accords, Camry, Taurus, Sable, and Maxima (prior to 04 Model Year)in the past, it doesn't have the safety record and safety features that are Standard as it is in the Impala.

I purchased car new and when slowing to stop the car shut off 4 different times. It would start back up ok. When starting off transmission slipped 8 times. Starting about 20,000 miles you would hear a clicking sound/bump when you backed up and started off. I went back to the dealer about 10 times trying to get these things taken care of. They would drive the car and say they cannot find anything wrong. Asked them to put all info in the computer. At 35,000, bad rotors, 43,000 bad tire rods, they paid for both. About 80,000 miles replaced Intermediate steering shaft my cost. Driving 2010 Toyoto Camry now. This was my 6th Chev. Impala and I will never buy another Chevrolet. You Decide.

I bought this impala about 5 months ago, its my first car. So far it has been a pretty good car, I have had minimal problems with it. I love how roomy and comfortable it is, I have had a full car with 6 ppl in it and we are all still comfortable. I have a dark blue impala with a spoiler and moon roof, performance wise I wish I had gotten the ss (I have the base with the 3.4 v6), the acceleration is decent. Handling is pretty good going 70-80 on the highway, I feel very safe in my impala. The only thing that I have noticed is that whenever I floor it, afterwords you can feel the transmission shifting whenever it changes gears, no idea what it is but it stops whenever I turn it off or on,

We purchased the Impala in 2005. The five star rating played a big factor in our purchasing decision. We totaled the vehicle two weeks ago. Definitely not a 5 star in the front passenger seat. A person hit a cow on a state hwy and killed it and we came up pretty quick behind them at 65mph and had to run over the dead cow because we couldn't evade either direction. We went airborne with both air bags deploying. The first impact going over the cow wasn't bad but the airbags deployed and were not still deployed when we came down and hit the pavement and then bounced twice after hitting the ground. Driver received minor injuries. Passenger received head, neck, shoulder and back injuries.

I've been very happy with my Impala. I don't think you can get a smoother ride from a front wheel drive car. Its very spacious, love the interior and trunk room. Its sharp looking and fun to drive. I bought mine off a corporate lease return, it had 72k on it when I bought it at only 3 years old. It now has 90k on it and still runs, looks and drives like new. Only problem I had was had to replace a wheel speed sensor at around 88k ($400). No other problems. Has been very dependable. A very nice, roomy, family car.

I have owned GM since I started driving. My last car was a 1991 Chevy Lumina Euro 2 Dr with a 3.1. Had to retire her after 290000 miles. Other than normal maintenance, oil change every 3 months, trans oil every 24 months with filter, the car still runs great and the new owner still gets 24 mpg with a heavy foot sometimes, just broke 300000 miles. This 05 Impala is a great car 28 mpg average 3.8 k motor 4spd OD trans LS option. Can't ask for more at this price. GM Certified Used Car, 5 year 10000 mile powetrain coverage from the original in service date with 12 months new car warranty coverage from the date of the used car purchase. After years of terrible experiences with Ford I was on my way to Chevy. I have always liked the look of Chevy it says sexy. My Chevy is anything but. I have a gas smell that comes through the vents that I have to roll down all windows to breathe for the first 5-8 minutes after cranking which after a year has still not been fixed due to the mechanics being unable to pinpoint the source. Runs sluggish I mean no take off except for this major lurch which scares me that I will one day run into someone. the CD player is worthless. I mean if I switch lanes it scratches and skips and the ride is rough. I am so disappointed. The good news is I will be trading it in soon for a Chevy truck.

I'm sad and disappointed because I have had this car back to the shop 4 times due to a gas smell and jerky, sluggish motor on acceleration. Many things have been repaired but the jerky, sluggish motor is still there. I'm frustrated because I love the look of the Impala's (always have) and I had a Lumina for 4 years that gave me absolutely no problems, loved that car! The Impala just doesn't compare and hasn't been what I expected. GM certainly has gone down in quality!

I bought it used in 2005, (Only a few months old) and I think I know why it depreciated $10,000 in only a matter of months. The A/C smells musty, the bottom scrapes everytime I turn into a driveway, my brakes make a strange chirping noise, (Dealer says normal) tranny makes strange grinding noise, (again, normal) the dash pieces are separating, (normal) the carpet pulls away from the lower trim because it was cut too short (normal) GM refuses to fix anything wrong with it. Interior noise is ridiculously loud, I fear that I am making my 20 month old son slowly deaf. No ABS, so when it snows it likes to hit other cars. Only had the rotors cut and got rid of the horrible tires it came with since in winter it was terrible to drive. I have snows for winter and it's like a 4wd now! Interior is made a bit cheaply but sound, no rattles. It has the not so good rated 3.4 v/6 due to coolant leak problems later on with miledge but I have the 7 year extended coverage so I'm good to go I hope. Powerful engine when you need it, quiet at idle but rough sounding on hard acceleration, it can be quite a zippy car! Handles good, fair amount of body lean on turns but firmer handling tires take care of some of that.

But this is better mileage than my '02 Hyundai Elantra 4 cyl stick got me. Cannot ask for more. Sticker says 20 city 30 highway. It's more! I bought the car from the same dealership my wife bought her 2006 Mazda 6 from. Anyway, the dealership addressed some issue about the car that I was concerned about because of safety issues (bent tie rod, back brakes and tires were bad, and carfax report still not in my hands!). I love this car, and I've always liked them. Ride's smooth and it has a good bit of power. Car was a rental car from Virginia beach (yeah I don't really like that part [bought it at 40,000 miles], but it's been 3 months and [knock on wood], no problems). I've read online of some of the problems people are having with their Impalas but I'm still satisfied with my buy. Got a year warranty to boot from dealership!

Bought this car used in February 2006. It had been privately owned with 16,000 miles on it. It has the 3.4 liter V6. Two weeks after purchase the CD player quit and had to be replaced. A couple of months later the transmission developed a vibration when shifting from 1st into 2nd. This was apparently a factory defect because there was a campaign out on it. The day I got the car back it began to slip when accelerating from a stop. 3 trips to the dealership to figure this out. A solinoid in the tranny was bad. The manifold gasket started leaking. The steering column rattles and I was told GM was working on this. Not very quickly, my mom's 95 Olds does the same thing. The AC has musty smell too

This car is driven by myself only as a municipal vehicle, it has had a rattle in the front end and been back to the dealer 3 times for this in addition to 3 fan belts. I dont know how in Police Officer could drive one of these uncomfortable, rattle boxes all day long truly a mistake in buying this car.

This is my 2nd Impala. So far I've had to pay to have the transmission fixed ($1,100.00 - Take it apart) and (3,250.21) to have it fixed. There is a thumping/popping sound when you turn the wheel. That is due to a "shaft thing". That's another $279.99 to fix. There is also a clattering sound when you are in 2nd gear and speed up. Don't know what that's about. The transmission slips and has a hard time changing gears. I don't know why both my Impalas gave me so many problems. I mean my last one was only 1 1/2 years old and the dealer said it's showing wear and tear on the engine and transmission. Come on! It's not even that old. Other than that it starts immediately and rides smooth. I don't even drive my cars rough. I've had my Caliber longer than my Impala lasted. My Caliber is 5 months old. When my Impala was 5 months problems started.

I purchased the Impala because of its reputation and comfort. I'm disappointed. The first 1.5 years were okay except for an annoying jerking when cold and first accelerate. Service could not determine cause after 3 visits. Last two times in for an oil change I was told the front wheel bearings are going bad and intake gasket has a leak - over $2000 in repairs. I lease to avioid maintenance problems. I will take my loss and opt for early out to get rid of this lemon. No more Impalas for me.

I've always bought Japanese, but I found a great deal on a used Impala, so I took a chance. I'm so glad I did. The car has had zero problems and it drives like a dream. The seats are very comfortable. My daughter says the rear seats are great, too. Trunk is huge. The best thing about the car is the phenomenal mileage: the Impala gets better mileage than our Subaru but it's much more spacious. The engine has plenty of pep and a satisfying growl that makes it feel like a hot rod. It's really the perfect combination of size, performance and fuel economy. I would buy another one. It's really a great car.

I've owned for almost two years now and love to drive this car. Great looks, power, handling, and fuel for a full-sized car. And a big trunk. I was driving 128 miles a day to and from work, and now only 63. It's a nice ride. I've had a few issues including turning the brake rotors and had the intermediate steering shaft replaced. The steering shaft was covered by warranty. I enjoy the comfortable ride and plenty of power to get around traffic. I bought this car because of the Consumer reports rates very well, great looks, and fuel mileage for a descent V6. I hope the newer style models rate well for my next purchase down the road.

I have had this car for 22 months now. A great highway car. I drive 70 miles a day, and have a true average of 25.6 MPG. Some highway and some stop and go. Hard to beat that when you consider this is a full size car. I have had many Honda's in the past. This car is built just as well. Perfect, no, but darn close. The 3.8 is strong and solid. The brakes are excellent. Check the safety ratings! Top of the class. Go Chevy!

This car is very smooth and quiet. There is no center console so you have room to spread out although the backseats aren't as spacious as you might think. My first tank fillups have given me mileages of 21, 22, 19, 29, and 30 with the last two being all highway and the first 3 mixed. Overall I'm very pleased with my purchase but would not buy one brand new because they lose their value very quickly compared to Honda or Toyota. Handling is not very good and the car tends to drift but that is the trade off for a super soft ride.

Overall this is a good car. It rides great and looks great. It has many nice interior features, such as dual zone climate control, automatic headlights, and an amazing stock stereo. The trunk is huge. There is plenty of room for an adult to sit on each side of my son's center mounted booster seat. However, my fuel economy is awful. I am concentrating on being as easy on take offs as possible and still only get 17mpg. I have called the dealer and they say that unless the check engine light comes on, there is nothing wrong with the car.

I looked at the Honda Accord and the Toyota Camry, but the Impala SS gave me the best value for money. Was able to get all the bells and whistles for a great price. Plenty of room, lots of power, stylish good looks, and great gas mileage for a large sedan. It's a joy to drive. I get tons of complements on the laser blue color. It looks blue or purple depending on with angle you look at it. Great for long drive or short trips around town. I would buy another Impala.

I purchased one of the last 2005's at my local dealer, it was on the showroom floor. So far, I really enjoy this car, it's comfortable, runs real well (3.8L V-6), and returns exceptional gas mileage. My commute is 100% city, no highway driving, in fact, I rarely get this car on the highway, and I consistently average 19 m.p.g. in city driving, not bad for a large 5 passenger sedan. The dash is a bit dated, but the exterior still has alot of appeal, and one of my favorite things about the exterior is that it is instantly recognizable as a Chevy, especially at night when the taillamps are lit !

Just as it was.

This has been a great car with excellent fuel economy. It has the 3.4 V6. I get about 32 MPG on the highway which is very good for a full sized car. Its the leader in its class for fuel economy. It gives you a very comfortable, quiet, smooth ride. This car has never been back to the shop for anything other then oil changes. I would highly recommend this vehicle. I have talked to others that have owned Impalas and they have all had nothing but praise for the vehicle. It was priced much cheaper than the Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord and I felt a much better value after I did my comparison test drives. All I can say is don't sell yourself short by not trying one. Its been a great car.

I was worried that my Chevy Impala would not compare well with Toyotas, Hondas, Dodges, and VW's that I have owned, but I was pleasantly surprised. Quality, economy, ride, reliability are all outstanding. I think American cars, at least for the ease of servicing and the relative price, are commonly underrated. The Impala compares very favorably with the Honda Accord and even with the Dodge 300, both of which I have either owned or driven. Quiet, responsive, respectable (my 19 yr old college student daughter says it is "swank"): it is the perfect car for my 54 yr-old tastes.

This is my second Chev, I replaced my 13 year old Cavalier with this Impala. Solid drive, power when needed. Handles well on windy wintery highways so one feels secure. Size, styling and ride comfort has impressed both friends and family. Fuel economy for this size vehicle a big plus. My Dad drives an Impala and my sister drives the Malibu. Some engine noise on acceleration, but quietens downs upon reaching desired speed, very quiet on ignition, you wonder if the car is even running. Worth your investment

They are very dependable, comfortable, and get good gas mileage for their size. Safety record is also a major plus. It is a great car for the money. I have owned Cadillacs, Mercedes, and Ford products and I can say without a doubt that the Impala is a trouble-free car in every respect. Would recommend it highly to anybody.

It is a comfortable car that has room for five and a sixth with some discomfort in the middle front. The comfort for the sixth passenger could be better. I wanted the capacity for six people and this one of few cars that have it. The trunk had adequate capacity for six people for a week on a recent trip (one infant)where we made large pruchases at the Mall of America. It gets over 30 miles gallon on the road. It is a quite car with good handling and I have had no problems with it.

Just purchased a 2005 Impala Base model with 13K miles, have had it almost a month. Very, very quiet interior, easy to read guages, logical controls that are well placed and easy to use with gloves on in the winter time. Seat is bit soft for my taste but it's very comfortable nonetheless. Handles as it should, not a Porsche, but a quiet, well built, easy and low maintenance 6 passenger sedan with great fuel economy. Edmunds needs to get over the dash/interior -they make it out to be junky - which it is not. It's functinal, easy to read, easy to use - what do they want in a 4-door sedan? Add a few more thousand for real wood if that's what makes them happy - for me, it's perfect!

Now that I have wife and kids I had to give up the z28 for a family sedan. Very solid car that is very comfortable to drive. Better gas mileage than my wife's Subaru. I've been getting 24 mpg city and 31 on the high way. We got the 3.8 liter engine based on the durability that we and other family members have had with it in older GM cars. We also got the 'sport touring' suspension that comes standard with the LS, however, the ride still feels fairly soft and vague - it should not be confused with the 'sport touring' designation that you hear about with Saabs, BMWs, etc. However it is the only car I have driven that my back feels better after 200 miles of highway driving than before!

This is an amazing family car.

CAr has all options except the Sport appearance pkg - don't care for that tail-lamp look anyhow. Very responsive and has good handling. Interior materials a bit on cheap side, like center console plastic. Surprising very few rattles. Leather seats firm but comfortable. Shopped around for a big back seat - this one fits 3 across no problem. Solid feel overall - very pleased.

Our 2005 Impala is a replacement for an older Cadillac that was recently totalled. The Impala is a very nice car in all aspects. We appreciate the build quality, handling and monochromatic look of the great dark graphite metallic color. The car provides plenty of room, and we like the sporty appearance. We are pleased with our car and our dealer.

I'm very happy with my new Impala. I took the car on a round trip Boston- Indianapolis (2100 miles total) and averaged 27 mpg. Plenty of room and power, and the seats were extremely comfortable. I was looking for a large car with good gas mileage, a big trunk and good looks - and you cannot find a better value than the Impala. With employee pricing, the car was just about $ 18K.

After driving other GM SUV models, making the shift to a car was a bit strange. The Impala SS changed that; great truck room, roomy interior, and oh by the way, it has a few ponies under the hood for daddy. Only bad thing; one color doesn't always fits all. Just take this baby on the open highway and let your foot get a little heavy. This car brings back the fun in driving without making you broke!

I'm very impressed with the car. You can't find a better deal for your money. Fully loaded car with all you need. The only thing I miss is that it doesn't have a 5 CD changer. Other than just having a single CD changer (you can only listen to one at a time anyway). I give it a great rating compared to the 740i BMW I traded. Sure is a lot cheaper to operate!

Chevy engineers did a fine job on this design, however, a few more changes would make customer rating better. I find it difficult to determine where the rear of the vehicle is when backing up. I love the handling and performance of the Impala LS and find it to be a reliable automobile.

I'm very pleased with how smooth and quiet this car is. I got over 21 mpg city and 27 hwy despite miles of stop and go work zones. I think OnStar is a great feature. I love the security it gives me, and XM radio is just great. I got belted with a hard rain and no leaks and no brake fade. I feel if everyone drove an Impala, they wouldn't buy anything else .I am amazed at how quiet and smooth the motor and transmission are. You can't hear it during normal driving. I also think its the best looking car.

This is one great automobile. Fit and finish is superb inside and out. The powertrain is very quiet and responsive. The interior is quiet, no squeaks or rattles. This is a "tall" car, you sit deep into the seats and it gives you a real sense of security and confidence, not to mention it corners like a cat. I am so impressed with this car, several friends have bought one on my suggestion and a test drive. A "best buy" in it's class!

It kills me that some people want or expect a Corvette out of this car. The Impala is a great car for its class. The engine is responsive but not overpowering, the exterior design is very nice, and the interior isn't bad, but could use some improvement. I have not attempted to blaze through s-turns at 130MPH, but I imagine that it won't do so well. So what? It's a full-size, 4-door sedan, not a Porsche. The sound system is good. It's pretty quiet compared to a Maxima or Taurus, although it's no Caddy in that department. Overall, it's a great value for its size and class!

Brand new, jet black, base model, cloth seats, looks and drive great. Very good value, with a couple of options, it's a commuter workhorse, but also turns some heads- real nice lines, 16 inch wheels give a lot of road feel, good ground clearances, low road noise, vision is good (fourth roof pillar hangs out there a bit). Huge trunk makes a good 'crumple zone' in event of rear ender. 4 doors are manageable- in contrast with Monte Carlo 'vault' doors. Great fuel economy with small six, lot's of power, even with passengers, Engine breathes real well under moderate acceleration. Dash mounted key switch is handy, column shifter perfectly placed. OnStar, CD, 4 wheel disc brakes, MAN oh MAN I love this car!

I am 6'3" tall. The Impala is the only auto of this size with a console that lets me drive without having my right knee continually pressing uncomfortably against the shift console. The Impala is quick, agile, and brakes well. I agree the interior ergonomics are not as well done as in my wife's Accord, but for long trips and comfort for a larger individual it cant be beat.

I purchased a 2005 Impala after being T- boned in my 2003 Impala last month. The safety rating was the determining factor in 2003, and it proved to be correct. While the car was totalled, I was not hurt, and the 3 carseats in the back were untouched. The car is extremely comfortable, roomy and fuel efficient. It handles nicely, and above all, it is built to protect passengers in the case of a crash.

This is one comfy car - it corners well, handles well, is responsive, has both pep and good gas economy. TONS of room with a giant trunk. There is a bit of excess noise with the moon-roof opened, and no factory-made windscreen for it. Heater fan gets loud, and it is time to get a set-by-temperature feature instead of the slide bar to control heat.

All the features I wanted and nothing more. Cruises great at 70. But if you want the supercharger it will let you know it's there. I drive a lot during any given day and don't feel drained getting home as before. Ergonomics are fine. Don't pay attention to the pinhead critics that don't like the layout of the cup holders and derate the entire vehicle. Not impling there are things I wouldn't change or like changed (full display with XM, and location of parking brake) with the interior, but for the money I'm not complaining. Love the body style, small in front and big in back.

The Impala SS may not be a head turner but in terms of the "bang for your buck" factor it's tough to beat (especially considering discounts being offered on soon to be "old style" 2005's). It's comfortable, quick and has all the amenities. You can get an SS with an MSRP of over $30K for $23-24K. It may not be worth $30K but for $23K it's a steal. Critics have blasted the Impala. Check it out and make up your own mind!

I was a little disappointed at first with the gas mileage, however after 2000 miles, it has really moved up better than I expected. The handling and performance is much better than I thought it could be. While not a sports sedan, you will be pleasantly surprised at the handling. Was undecided between the Malibu and the Impala, this was a far better choice. I would make one comment if you are looking to purchase this car, shop around the price differences between dealers is quite large. You need this car!

More room and comfort than most German or Japanese cars. Press the gas and the supercharger kicks in with a powerful and smooth acceleration. It's like being in a rocket. As a person who commutes 100 miles a day, roundtrip, I no longer feel pain after getting out of the car.

I recently purchased a new Chevrolet Impala LS. I wasnt looking for all the bells and whistles, but more for the roominess both interior and trunk. True, this car is a bit generic, but the leather interior is very comfortable, especially with power seats. The interior noise is reasonably quiet except for a minor transaxle whine in 1st and 2nd gear. Coarse roads also bring on some unpleasant resonance. Front spoiler annoyingly seems to hit every driveway. All the interior controls are very legible with a decent sound system. The 3.8 v6 starts and runs flawlessly. with excellent mpg.If your looking for nice comfortable and practical full size transportation, consider the Impala.

I travel a large 8 state area of the Midwest. My average week is 1,200 to 1,500 miles per week. The fuel mileage is a steady 29 - 30 mpg, which helps with the high fuel prices. I wish I would have purchased the XM/ On Star option. I'm 6'2" & fit comfortable. But I dislike the seat due to it already sagging out, & would like it to have more lumbar support. Also, I prefer a tighter suspension, however I realize that I prefer a stiffer ride, & that is not what the public wants. I will be replacing my car in the spring & will consider buying an other Impala.

After driving BMW's for years (11 cars), I was pleasantly surprised at the drivability of this car. While not quite up to the BMW, it is very close. The two big differences are the build quality and the price. Dollar for dollar the Impala is a much better value as the comparable BMW costs 2&1/2 times as much.

The Impala is a good value for the money. I got the SS model because of the supercharged engine and sportier exterior features. With the wheels and SS spoiler, the car really is an improvement over the base and LS models in the looks department. There is a lot of interior room for the size of the car. Fit and finish are great, this car is put together very nicely. I like the additional gauges you get with the SS vs. the other models (boost, etc.).

Outstanding performance for v-6; Suspension (optional sport) does a great job on twisty roads. Comfort features (heated seats, etc are very nice touch); we have been very pleased with this vehicle in town and on one 5000 mile trip. Gas mileage is an amazing 30mpg - even at 70mph plus.
