I have a 2005 3.0d Sport which has covered 88k miles. It is fully loaded and built like a tank and yet performs like a sports saloon. One would have to look hard to find another 2-ton SUV that can achieve the 0-60 sprint in less than 8 seconds.

I was completely disappointed from BMW's X5! I bought this car with a high expectation and found me in a never ending repair loop. - if the engine was idle - smoking, smoking after you throttle up again - oil leaking - estimate around $4500 - HVAC quit working - estimate $2500 - tires, tires, tires ... - light bulbs never ending story - I changed by myself and spend in bulbs only almost $300 - windshield washer pumps - passengers door handle - estimate $450 and, and, and But nice was the comfort and the handling.

I bought my X5 a few years back. I've been a loyal BMW owner since my first 2002 I bought back in the late 70s. I have had pretty good luck through the years until I bought this thing. My transmission went out at 75K, the tail light housing needs replacing so the lights don't continue to go out (not burn out, just not seating properly), the oil changes produce parts of a know flaw in the oil pump non-return valve ($2500 fix) and numerous issues with the mirrors, window washer motor, etc. Honestly, this is my last BMW as I no longer feel confident in their product. Lexus, here I come..........

Bought my BMW X5 3.0i SAV in Feb 2010 with approximately 70k miles...current mileage 150k. I have always thought that BMW hit it out of the park in the looks department when they designed the X5; still do. I travel a lot for work and the X5 gives me confidence that I can handle any road conditions and is a comfortable highway cruiser. While I don't regret my decision to purchase BMW's flagship SAV, a potential buyer needs to remember that this vehicle is $50k new and is engineered to high performance/handling specs. As a result of both of the attributes, ongoing maintenance is going to be more frequent and expensive than most run of the mill SUVs.

Worst vehicle I've ever owned

Daughter wanted this because she liked the styling. I should have known better but relented. Bought a 2005 X5 with 48,000 miles on it in summer of 2009 from the only dealership here (Autobahn Motors - in Fort Worth). One of worst buying experiences and service departments ever, but that's a separate rant. One owner. Looked well taken care of. Records okay. Since then it's been in and out of the shop. About 7 weeks ago, the low coolant light came on, so we took it to dealer, they checked it, and said it as a busted radiator cap. Fixed that and thought we were okay until light came on suddenly and SUV stopped running the other day. Now Dallas dealership said it was a cracked reservoir. $$$$$

Great vehicle...when it's not in the service department

I purchased a one-owner X5 with just over 100,000 miles just three weeks ago. The first day with the car went well; however, the second did not. Accelerating after a rolling stop produced a lag followed by a violent jolt. Result=transmission needed to be replaced (do NOT fall for the "computer software update" run around, it will not fix anything.) Additionally, the X5 coated my garage floor with a 1 ft. in diameter oil puddle (caused by yet another mechanical issue). The dealer bought the vehicle back from me, while still maintaining it had NO mechanical issues. I'll be replacing it with an H3-same cost to fuel 18mpg vs. "22mpg", more reliable and much cheaper to maintain.

BE CAREFUL WHEN BUYING A USED X5

These SUV's are great when purchased new, but when the sellers and owners don't have the correct maintenance performed. It could be a nightmare for the future owners. My story goes like this. Found a used 2005 X5 4.4i from a local BMW dealer. Purchased it and within a month bad transfer case 3,000 dollars, oil leaks along with brake lines 800 dollars. Remember only "ONE" month later! To say the least after working with the dealer, they bought it back! Afterall they gave it a clean bill of health before I drove it off the lot. Moral of this story.. IF you buy one of these, make sure you have it COMPLETELY checked over by a BMW mechianic you trust. Otherwise Walk way !

Ok I just bought my SUV used from BMW with 53K miles on it. I bought the extended warranty. Its a week and already needs brake, tire pressure keeps coming on, the brake lights on, there are 2 hoses that need to be replaced, the washer fluid is leaking, the bushings need to be replaced and the rear windshield wiper needs to be replaced (not working). The repairs at BMW are over $2500. I went back to the dealer and they said its not covered under the 90 NYS warranty and the extended warranty doesn't kick in for 30 days or 1,000 miles which ever comes first. I had 2 Acura's and a Saab and never had these kind of issues. It seems at 50K miles these cars are a nightmare. Made a huge mistake!!

Which is unfortunate, since this is the 6th BMW I've owned...now my last. Purchased this X5 Certified Pre-Owned which basically amounts to at least being able to drive around in a newer model BMW just about every month for the NUMEROUS times I had my X5 in the shop...literally a week after purchase it was in service (bought from an authorized BMW dealer...not that that means anything nowadays). So far replaced--transmission, alternator, rear lights, roof trim, electronic dash, panorama sunroof fixed (not replaced), xenon headlamp. The worst part is that it takes THREE visits for every one issue...never done right the first time. Oh...and BMW charges $50 a pop for CPO repairs.

Total LEMON, will never buy BMW again

Spent more time in the shop than on the road. Very cheaply made, tons of Chinese plastic. Engine misfires, coolant leaks, vacuum leaks, broken sunroof, door handles, door windows, and even cup holders broke… just to name a few issues during the 4th and 5th year of ownership. BEWARE repairs and parts are extremely overpriced and time consuming. Other than reliability and dependability, powertrain performs very well and acceleration is impressive considering the car’s weight. However Xdrive sucks, yes it can pull you out of a deep snow, but when it comes to cornering on a wet and/or icy surfaces it performs much worse than FWD vehicles. Summary: fun to drive while new, falls apart after 50k

This is my third BMW and I would not go for BMW again. Sometime the back door locks won't open and we cannot open the back door from inside or outside. Kids can be trap inside the car unless they climb to the front seat. The steering wheel get stiff from time to time. Self leveling light is always on. In the winter the lock freeze easily thus impossible to open or close. The motor rattles too much on a cold days. I went to the dealers many times and they have no clue what is going on. The computer cant pick anything up. This is a 80 k truck and it made like crap. I certainly wouldn't try another BMW again. All German car don't seem to know how to design electronic properly.

I bought mine Certified Pre-Owned which I've come to find out means nothing. I had always dreamed of a luxury car and was thrilled to drive off the lot with it. Since then I have been so disappointed. Constant problems with the Nav, warning lights coming on, lighter fuse busting, Blutooth issues and worst of all -when I accidentally locked my keys in the car w/ my dog inside, BMW Roadside Assistance told me that it was "highly unlikely" that the locksmith could open it (this happens a lot they said) and that I would have to wait 48 hrs for a key to be made or just break the window. Well, oviously, had to break the window. It was $900 to fix. I'm over BMW. P.S. Replacement keys are $225.

Creature comforts are very nice and fun to drive but horribly unreliable. At 42,000 miles started to sound like a diesel, alternator bearings bad and then completely failed. Cheap oem crimp style hose clamp on transmission recovery bottle failed which is also positioned directly above alternator.Dealer service technicians incorrectly diagnosed as having a bad high pressure power steering hose.Found out they wanted 1500 for repair and I towed it back home to fix myself for $150.Eats break pads and rotors for lunch, repl'd with better aftermarket.Brake pad sensor is poor design and you must replace sensor at pad change or your brake pad warning light will stay illuminated.

Still driving this 2005 in 2010, and intend on keeping it. This is the best- handling SUV - perfect size, balance, pick-up. I like it better than the 2006 model, which is wider and feels less nimble. If the seats are too hard for you, buy a Buick. They are just right for a sporty drive. And personally, I love the sound and feel of the heavy 'clunk' of the doors. Heavy they are, safe they are, also. Yet the X5 4.4i never makes you think you're driving a tank (hello Range Rover!). I've never driven any other SUV that had the handling characteristic of this X5. BMW got that one just right.

Gotta love it

Our car now has 90,000 miles on it, and I still smile every time I drive it. It is so responsive, and tight around the corners, that I often forget that I'm in a huge SUV. I was almost ran off the road one day with my 2 kids in the back, and I fought to keep the vehicle on the road, but the BMW handled so well, that we got back on track and on our way. I truly believe that in any other SUV we would have tipped and crashed. People keep mentioning gas mileage, but they forget they bought a performance car! Indy cars and jet planes don't get great mileage either! I think it's pretty good- we average about 22 and got 28 on a long highway trip!

We purchased this new in 2005 and have 110,000 miles on it now. Was in the shop a few times right after we bought it, but it hasn't been back (other than scheduled maintenance) since. The car is incredibly reliable and is as solid as a rock. You can tell the build quality and safety by the weight of the doors. Great heated seats, panorama sunroof, and comfort. Holds up to wear and tear very well driving around three busy sons. Definitely would buy another.

Like it a lot!

Got a heck of a deal compared to blue book pricing - This car has been great. Love the sleek design, big sunroof and great handling. Unfortunately I've already learned that it performs well in side impact. The fuel economy is not great but a little better than advertised. I think that on the highway I average about 25mpg. In the city about 18. If you drive it nice it's not terrible. Lots of room for all passengers and luggage. This car really is about as close to perfect as I could hope for - I think when I trade I will do so for a 2010 X5 Diesel in 2-3 years. Woo hoo for more fuel economy.

This is my first BMW to ever own and was super excited when we were told it was ours. However, after being told several times that when you buy "certified" it is like buying brand new. After 1 month, brake pads are grinding. After 3 months, oil, brake, and coolant lights all come on. The motor for the mirrors breaks and to top it all off...the BMW logo on the front of the car falls right off. I do live in Tx and I know it's hot, but really? I am trying to get rid of it now. Oh, and the best part, it did qualify as a "Cash for Clunker" vehicle. Great!

I had a Dodge Durango 2001 before this x5 and never had a problem with it. The x5 is the worst car I had - it leaks from the roof when it rains; took it back to the dealer to get it fixed so many times and still same problem. Electrical problem goes dead can't find the problem, driver door won't open from outside with this car you never know if the engine is going to start or not. You don't expect this from a BMW. I am about to put a sign on my glass saying don't buy this car ,too many problems.

I've only owned it 1000mi and the car is still under warranty, but so far the car has been excellent. Took it on a long trip and the V8 is so smooth and effortless at speed. The car is rock solid. I will use the car for towing, so the extra weight is helpful, but otherwise the car is actually small for the 5000# weight. Gas mileage has been 19- 20 combined, which I'm happy with. I'm not sure I would buy this car new (not a great value and high depreciation), but I got a helluva deal because the poor economy and higher gas prices.

I have owned the previous generation of this M-group or Alpina engineered (I have heard both cited by sources that might know!) truck (the 4.6is) and a 2004 4.4i and have driven all of the competing SUV's, and only the 4.6 comes close to this as a sporty driver on the road. All the other brands of wannabes suffer from excessive truckishness; even the Porsche has obvious huge unsprung weight that compromises its on road handling. The lesser bimmers, including new generation vehicles, are simply outclassed in terms of braking, handling, power delivery and ESPECIALLY steering--the engine speed sensitive system feels like a truck, the vehicle-speed sensitive system on the 4.8 like a real BMW!

I have test driven all the major players in the sport SUV category and this remains the best for those that do not plan to drive off road. DO NOT confuse this vehicle with the much more pedestrian 3.0, 4.4 or current 4.8. This is the "M" of the SUV line and the steering, suspension and brakes were all seriously massaged by either the M group or Alpina to make this vehicle handle and drive like no other truck to date. The Porsche is impressive, but huge unsprung weight assures that it will never have the nimble, car-like feel of this vehicle.

We were very excited to buy the X5, it had stellar safety ratings and was fun to drive. The problems started shortly after we bought it. First the lights didn't work right. Then the AC had problems. We had to replace several window motors. I got to be on a first-name basis with my service rep, as we have been in the shop almost every other month since we bought it. The quality of the materials in the vehicle was poor as well, the door handles are cheap plastic. All in all, not a very pleasant experience with what we thought was a quality German brand.

Beautiful interior design and the seats are very comfortable. The interior is much better then the MDX we drove before this X5. Fuel economy is not great, but then its an SUV and not a hybrid. The X5 has been outstanding. I've got the sports pkg and performance pkg. The 4.4 engine is a must for this heavy, solid vehicle. Not only is it powerful, but it sounds great. I was looking for an SUV that acts like a sports car and this is it! My wife calls it a motorcycle on 4 wheels because of its performance (I ride sport bikes). I've only owned it for a few weeks and I just drive it around for no reason because it is so fun. I average around 17 mpg driving it hard. It actually gets the same gas mileage as my previous SUV that only had a 3.5L V6. This is my first BMW and I am hooked.

From day one this vehicle was a major disapointment. Spent almost 60K on vehicle that went through brakes every 3000 miles after the first service. Was in dealership almost every 2-3 weeks. Very noisy and very poor in snow. Most dissapointing was dealer response. Said I must be driving with two feet. Have two other 5 series with a total of 100,000 miles on them and no brake problems. Dealer has refused to honor warranty after only 24,000 miles.

Kids got older and wanted a luxury smaller SUV for me. The X5 fit the bill perfectly. It is a sexy, fun, powerful vehicle with plenty of room without feeling like a truck posing as a SUV. BMW thought of everything with this vehicle with a few exceptions. The CD is in the back, therefore I never use it.The tires wear awful! Can not be rotated. Had transmission issues since day 1, and just had replaced by BMW. It would not engage upon takeoff at times and would feel as if you had been rear-ended when it engaged. No problems since. Would not be particularly comfortable for four adult size people. My teenagers get nauseated riding in the backseat.Otherwise I LOVE my X5, would recommend!

It may have been a great car. It may have been a great truck. But it's neither. Very comfortable and decent performer with nice interior. Nevertheless, a very busy exterior, awfully heavy doors (watch your fingers), lousy electronics, bad rear visibility, gargantuan gas appetite, tremendous wind noise with open roof, unreadable computer display in most daylight and huge turning radius. Main forte - desirable name tag. Living up to the promised ultimateness - in chris bangle's next life. We are walking away from it for. Thanks, munich, this was our last present to you.

The X5 has met all expectations. Even gas mileage - I average 21 mpg combined city/hwy. Comfortable, safe, and cool looking. Plenty of power with the 3.0. The free maintenance is great. No charge for the first 50K miles.

Had a 2001 Acura MDX prior to this BMW X5, loved the MDX but it was approaching 100,000 miles. Didn't want to wait for redesigned MDX, bought the X5, only good thing I can say is it has a sporty handling with zip. Other than this I am EXTREMELY disappointed in the vehicle. It is poorly built and in the 16 months owned has been into the shop 3X for electrical problem that they can't seem to find what is causing vehicle to go dead. I would never buy another BMW, and when this one gets out of the shop in next day or so, will look to get rid of. Probably go back to MDX, as my son has my old one, 125,000 miles and running while my BMW is broke down with 26,000 miles

The BMW X5 is a great car to drive on the highway, but is completely unsafe to drive in the snow, even with snow tires. The rear wheel drive is too unreliable. The seats in the front of the SUV are comfortable for about 20 minutes, but after that, your back will get sore. The back seats are too stiff, for there is no siding for your back, and no grip.

Extraordinary!

I bought a new BMW X3 2006 this february, and had a very bad crash in which the car was totalled. I only suffered from whiplash for 3 days. If it had not been for the amazing new safety system of this car and the frame, i would not be writing here. So I made my decision that I will only drive BMW cars, which left me again with the decision: should I buy a new X3 again or should I upgrade and buy a used 2005 X5? I went with the latter option, and I am completely in love with the car! So much bigger inside than the X3it makes you feel even safer to drive, and the drive, outstanding - I have the sportspackage. I really love it!

My wife and I purchased our X5 3.0 in time for our first child. Although we purchased due to the outstanding safety features, we have found the performance and handling to be very handy in everyday driving. We are so happy with our purchase that we are already considering a second BMW in the near furture.

This SUV blew away all of my expectations. It is extremely comfortable, ultra sporty and very practical. I love this vehicle! It works seamlessly with my iPod and Bluetooth cell phone. I conduct business from my vehicle and this SUV allows me to conduct it with style and success. I cruise across the state to meetings and arrive feeling refreshed and ready for business. The safety features on this car will ensure that I arrive unharmed. It takes corners like a sports car and "floats" down the highway. Before you buy any SUV, you should test this one out!! Excellent vehicle!!!

Not what I expected from a BMW.

I have just about 14,000 miles on my X5. Not aerodynamically designed... if it is windy and i'm traveling faster than 70 miles, there is a whistling noise coming from the front of the windshield. The luggage compartment cover is also rather annoying due to it's rattling. This is not what I had expected from a BMW.

Traded in a Lincoln Navigator for this little sports car. Best car I've ever owned or driven. Makes driving fun, wife & I look for excuses to drive. Amazing the way it handles, accelerates and brakes. Almost feels like it anticipates your next move. Takes corners like it is glued to the road. Love the passing acceleration at all speeds.

I have not been able to find a flaw in the design or structure of the 2005 X5. Everything works and in one year I have not had any problems. The new 4.4 engine is extremely responsive and very smooth. Holds the road like a vette. The price is high but worth it. I traded a 2003 for the 05 and am glad I did.

The BMW X5 4.4i provides SUV stability and versitility without losing the performance expected from a BMW. Whether commuting, car pooling, taking a weekend family trip (with the dog), or moving furniture from one place to another, the X5 is the perfect vehicle. Really recommend the 4.4 engine upgrade for better power transfer -- the gas mileage is virtually the same as with the smaller engine.

Had my 2002 X5 since new. At 3000 miles experienced overheating problems. At 17000 miles the entire HVAC unit had to be replaced-water flooding the interior P/S. Speedo has a 5mph error (slow) that I was told was inherent in BMWs - dealer quote "BMW does not want their owners driving too fast". I/P center stack has a severe rattle at the radio cover, console has a severe rattle at the cupholder cover, to date the dealer has not been able to repair either. When I use the heated seats the headlamps dim. Steering is very heavy feeling, difficult in tight, low- speed turning. Would not recommend this car to anyone.

Love this SUV - 05 3.0i artic white, truffle brown leather seats, dark wood grain, premium package, cold-weather and climate packages. This SAV handles like a dream. It’s fast and very smooth shifting of the auto trans. Interior noise is almost zero unless you’re doing 90 or above, then you hear the outside mirrors whistle. Driver’s view is great. The full sunroof is awesome but yet quiet when closed. Everything about this BMW is top shelf in my opinion. I am just one very happy owner.

My x5 3.0i automatic was purchased in March 2005 new. I now have 5800 miles on it and have had no problems what so ever. The SAV is alpine white, the paint and fit and finish is perfect. The interior is charcoal rugs and dash with dark popular wood trim. The seats are truffle brown. Plenty of leg, shoulder and headroom. Interior is ultra quite no wind noise or traffic can be heard I’m not kidding this SAV is out side noise free at any speed. Performance is outstanding for a 225 horsepower straight 6. Had it up to 120 mph not to long ago and had no vibration what so ever, SAV was like floating on a cloud also had plenty of gas peddle left. Electronic climate control is beautiful, gas mileage stinks.

I've owned 4 Jeep Cherokees in my life and have really enjoyed the layout and size. But Jeep service dept. and reliability is very bad. The X5 is the next step up. Very similar size, and layout inside, so I felt comfortable right away in the new BMW. The jump from a Cherokee to an X5 is like going from Coach to first class. It's not just a little nicer, it's a whole different world. The car feels like luxury, and drives like a sports car. I'm looking forward to puting it to work in the snow this season. The weight and stability of this SUV is impressive, unlike any other I've tried. The only downside so far is the towing cabability is weak.

This is my third X-5. I just could not justify buiying any other kind of vehicle. It is comfortable, conservative and performs well in all weather. It provides class without being opulent. BMW's refined I-6 represents a combination of smoothness, performance and durability. I get as high as 25 MPG on the highway. Sirius Radio is excellent as is Bluetooth and navigation system. Even after being on the market for six years, the model still gets looks. I find cargo space adequate for my use. Seats are best in class. Don't look just at specs...this car is a "driver." If you spend a day with the X-5, you will fall in love. It becomes like a comfortable shoe. You never want to get out of it.

Had my 2002 X5 for 3 years. Never had a mechanic problem with it in the entire time I had it! Most of you must have problems from the new X-Drive. Mine drove like a well oiled machine. No rattles, nothing! Just months into turning her in, I was reended on the highway by a driver who never saw the traffic had come to a full stop. (He was fighting with his wife!) My X5 never moved from the impact which could have easily become a multi-car disaster. In fact, the X5 is so solid I didn't realize how bad it was until I got out to check on the damage. His car was totalled! How much damage did my X5 received? I had a few scratches buffed before turning that baby in.

I love this SAV or SUV or car or whatever you want to call it. The ride is all BMW, great feel, power, steering, braking and handling. Plus you sit up high, have ample storage, and 4 wheel versatility. I compared it against Lexus GX/RX, Infinity FX35/45, Porsche Cayenne, Mercedes ML, Volve XC90, VW Touraeg, Acura MDX, Range Rover LR3 and others. Lots of good choices - but the X5 looked the best and handled the best - which are my top priorities. Add the top safety rating, awesome resale value and dependability and you get the winner.

It is not only smooth, but handles great around town and on the freeways. Excellent power to manuever around any obstacle. The only thing I miss about the Lexus is the 6 disk in- dash CD player and the rear power door. The X5 is an excellent pick in the midrange SUV category.

Love this bmw, The only problem I experienced is the trans. IT slams very hard into first gear when coming into yield sign then accelerating. It sounds like somebody has rear ended my vehicle. The dealer is working with BMW to see if it can be fixed.

The truck is fun to drive, handles great, very comfortable and has great visibility. It feels strong, and I feel safe in it. The only downfall is the fuel economy. I'm always at the gas pump. The onboard computer reads 16.9 mpg, however the floating needle is pinned at 8 mpg every time I accelerate, and levels off around 12. A small price to pay for a great vehicle. I also don't agree with the small cargo coments. There is plenty of room back there.

I picked up my 4.8is at the BMW performance center what a treat. A must do for all BMW perfomance buyers. Drove back to NJ and I'll say this SAV has the mustard of a M5 and more. With the comfort seats installed an eleven hour drive seemed like 2 hours. Average mpg was 19.2 at 85 mph Awesome performance and handling. The best auto I've driven in years.

I bought this car expecting a luxury product. The car has not run correctly since driving it off the lot. It has been at the dealer 5 times in 6 months. Customer service is condescending and not willing to offer any kind of compensation to back up their product. I would never buy another BMW product not worth the payments. Also BMW assist can not help you unlock your doors, better off buying a Chevy.

I have had 3 BMW X 5's in a row; My first was a 2000 3 litre which was very good but lacked a bit of punch, I then got the 4.4 litre 2003 which was great but then I upgraded to the 2004 with the full glass roof, the new engine and transmission and it is better. It is great in the snow, handles really well and brakes that way too. The fuel economy is not even good but it is slightly better than my previous 4.4 litre. The premium seats are terrific and the sound system is up to snuff. So who cares if the look is a bit stodgy and could use a real redo. Please BMW don't kill it looks wise like you did my beloved 540i or I'll finally have to go to the competition.

I live north of Toronto, Canada, a very icy winter day, I had to take a detour and went down a snowy, icy hill directly into the path of a mercedes turned sideways, the BMW X5, used its threshhold braking to stop the vehicle without sliding miraculously I just drove around the mercedes like nothing happened. I love this SUV!! It looks great too!!

This is my 4th BMW and by far the best. Great handling and acceleration. Ride is quiet but firm with 19" wheels and sport package. The great reason for buying a BMW. Interior looks clean and classy. I recommend the comfort seat option for the softer leather feel and support. It's expensive but so are other SUV's in this class.

I've owned only one other car I was this crazy about and it was a 1977 630 BMW. I drove it for 12 years and put 228,000 miles on it. I guess I'm just a big fan of Bimmers.

Got the X5 just before Christmas, one week later the biggest snow storm in 12 years hit. In 30hrs we had 29 inches of snow. Not much was moving, but the X5 with all season tires plowed through the snow like a hot knife through butter. In the past 26 years in the Sierra Nevadas I have driven most types of 4x4's, and the X5 beats them all. More snow is on the way. I wonder what it would do with a good set of snow tires!

First 1000 miles was in the terrible winter storms in Ohio over Christmas...this car was the "ultimate driving machine"! I love this car so far. Love the sound of the engine when I accelerate...and it does accelerate. The defroster is a blast furnace though. Wish it had a fan control. The cargo space is not that big...but I was not looking for much more. Really nothing but praise so far. The car really handles well and I love all the options.....although it took me an hour to learn everything. Would definitely recommend it if you are looking for an SUV with sports car feeling.

Unfortunately, 3 weeks ago I was rearended by a hit and run driver while stopped at a red light. The vehicle held up so well considering the impact. My husband and I were not injured at all. This is a quality vehicle well worth the money.

Could use X3 cup holder configs though. GREAT on the long (12 hr) drives. Carries my little dog crate and ALL my stuff! Quick enough to get me out into traffic easily and safely. Fun and comfortable to drive. Compared ALL the competition... Really Glad I bought this one! Just LOVE this car!

Love driving the vehicle, looks assume, but it's in the shop too much. Several trips needed to repair same problem. Have had it in shop way more then my plan Jane Chrysler mini-van. The ride is awesome, looks fantastic, very roomy for our teenagers and a third friend ... my wife wants an exact duplicate. Avoid the sport package ... makes for a bumpy ride and restrictive seats! Bluetooth function on the intergrated cellphone is seemless! Extended sunroof, creates a roomy feel in the cabin. IF YOU HAD PREVIOUS CONCERNS ABOUT THE RIDE AND PRICE, I'D ENCOURAGE YOU TO TAKE ANOTHER TEST DRIVE IN A 2005 MODEL!

Great SUV. this is my second one. The 4.4 has great power but a little more pricy than the 3.0. Great feel and handle. The sports package is a little more bumpier but that maybe the feel you desire. If you desire a softer feel you may want to choose the one with out the sports package. Eitherway, Great auto. NO PROBLEMS at all. I drove my old 3.0 leased x5 to the ground with no maintanence for about 2 years. It still felt and functioned as if it was new. Can't beat the looks and the bmw 7 series engine that this has. A MUST HAVE!!!

Not wanting to sacrifice driving experience (I've driven a 1997 BMW 5 series for the past 8 years) but needing to buy a 6,000+ lb. vehicle for my business, I settled on an X5 with the sport suspension. It has been a great vehicle. If you weren't up so high, you'd hardly know that you weren't in a sport sedan. In addition, despite the extra weight, I average a shade less than 19.5 mpg, a mere 1 mpg short of what I was getting from my 528! The panoramic moonroof is excellent as are the sport seats. The only things I dont like are the body molding that runs under the doors - it is a dirt trap and my pant legs seem to always rub it and the lack of a super large cargo area.

I always had a 4runner which I loved but I wanted to move up to BMW and keep my SUV feel so I purchased a BMW x5. I love it. The drive is smooth and the 3.01 has a lot of kick on the freeway. On long drives the interior is comfortable and relaxing. The seat memory is a great feature. The ride is smooth and a blast to drive. Steering is steady and it handles great changing lanes and on unexpected moves. The option to drive in the sport mode makes a fun change when you are bored. The gas mileage isn't great but what I expected for an SUV and when I purchased it. The price was not much more that any other high end SUVS and I feel like I got maximum value.

Edmund's editor's review is very accurate! I traded a 2002 525 for this X5. I wanted more room than the 525, but really liked interior configuration, styling, and ride (not to mention how much I hate the new 530 styling). The X5 is very very close to my old 525...it just feels a bit heavier. The gas mileage has been the only disappointment, but the X5 feels very quick and responsive, so I'm guessing that the mileage is the trade-off. If you're looking for the BMW ride and performance, but the size of a SUV, this is a great choice.
