I bought this AWD van with 150K miles on it. It doesn't use a drop of oil, rides smooth and is free of major body defects but the prior owner did have it rustproofed regularly. I now have 180K miles on it and it is still running strong. The only serious problem has been a rear wheel bearing which cost less than $400 to repair. I love the sure footed feel of this van in our snowing northern climate.

We brought this car of the dealers lot in Dec 2003. We have had numerous problems with it. Except for its engine, everything has had problems. - Radiator blew off at 15K and again at 98K - Rear shock replaced at 35K - Body parts just rattle, rattle and more rattle - Water seeped into the rear of the car causing us to get that cleared couple times - Alignment goes off the whack every 6 months - I have to change tires every 2 years due to excessive wear. No one can tell why - Automatic door broke twice! Forutnately second time the part was covered under warranty - Radio has gone bad - Side door plastic cracked - Rear axle hub had to be changed at 95K - AutomaticWindowreplac

We bought this van off-lease from a fleet at wholesale in November 2006 after our 2nd child was born. It had 50K miles and had been serviced exclusively at a Toyota dealer. We never had a single problem or breakdown. Just routine oil changes, tires, brake pads, timing belt. It was plenty big for my family of 4 on long trips. Our best was 25mpg. We loved the 3rd row fold-down bench and usually left it folded down so we could throw in our double stroller un-collapsed. We owned it for 2 1/2 years, put 50K miles on it and sold it easily.

We upgraded from a 2003 to a 2004 Toyota Sienna and there is a BIG difference. The vehicle is like 6" wider and longer and it is so nice. We were not able to put a rear-facing car seat in the second row of captains chairs in our 2003 but the 2004 fits it nicely and my wife and I are both over 6' tall. The stowable rear seat is very nice too. The gas mileage is right around 20 mpg which could be better. It has plenty of power though and the ride is nice.

We bought this 2004 model in the summer of 2003 and now have 123K miles on it. Nearly flawless reliability with very minimal maintenance and repairs. The only issue we've run into has been the fairly common power door cable break. We had a lot of warning (noises, clunky operation) and had it inspected and were told it would cost $1600 to fix. We let it go and now the door is manual operation only. No big deal, we got over 10 years of use out of it while the kids were young. Other than this we've changed the timing belt, spark plugs, and front brake pads (@50K and @100K) plus the usual maintenance items such as oil, filters and tires. Each set of tires has gone between 32K and 38K miles.

I once said I would never buy anything but a Ford or Chevy, but I am a Toyota believer now. Bought this van new in 2004 and it now has 175,000 miles on it with very little problems to speak of. Just routine maintenance for the most part. The dash did start to crack in the center at 100K and the radiator leaks a bit, but considering the mileage I cannot complain. I think this year I will replace the radiator finally, but still not terrible at 175K. Only other issue I had at about 155K was a front wheel bearing went bad. You know they are bad when you rumble down the road. Still a ton of mileage without major repair costs so really cannot complain!! Would definitely buy another Toyota!

My family has owned this car almost 10 years and its been an absolute champ. Other than routine maintenance and a few recalls, we've had to do a thing. Its been to and from mountains hauling kayaks, filled with dry wall and tools, and has been the primary delivery vehicle for our cake business. The drivers sliding door doesn't open automatically anymore but to be honest, I cant complain given the amount of use it has gotten. This would be a great used car to purchase.

2004 Sienna XLE at 180,000

This minivan still rides like a cloud. Relatively minor repairs and maintenance: new timing belt at 120,000 and a warranty replacement of the rear gate lift pistons. I will never go back to a small car. At 180,000 miles it runs like new. Very very very happy. I expect to get at least 300,000 out of this van, very comfortably.

We bought our 2004 Sienna new. In the first 6 months, we had to replace the battery, the armrest fell off and the spare tire holder broke after one use. In the next three years, the panels on the front doors slid down and trapped me inside - I had crawl to the back seat to get out. My husband duct taped the panels on and no more problem - ugly but it worked. Then the sliding door panel's lock didn't work. You had to take a chopstick to hold the lock lever up until just before you closed it and then pull out the chopstick and slam the door. Other things broke with light use. Door weatherstripping falls down. Engine ran but looked like a beater van. Would not recommend this van.

My wife and I recently purchased a used '04 Sienna w/122,000 miles on it. I didn't think twice about buying this Sienna because of Toyota's reliabilty (we also own a '02 Camry w/175,000 miles on it). The model we got is the LE 7-passenger w/leather interior. It is a very comfortable vehicle to ride in and fun to drive, even though it's a minivan. Other than some slight vibration in the dash the Sienna drives like new, very smooth and quiet. My wife loves the right rear sliding door that opens w/a push of a button. Although, I have heard of many instances when the chain breaks in that power sliding door being a costly repair (over $1400 I believe). We love the minivan life!

XLE Limited 406,000 Miles with only Minor Issues

I purchased this van with 60K miles on it in 2007. Since then I have put over 240 more. This has been the most reliable car or truck I have ever owned. The items I have repaired or replaced include tires, brakes, spark plugs, and two timing belts. I had to have a new A/C compressor last summer. Both power sliding door cables broke some time ago but I have not fixed them because the doors open and close with one finger-they are a waste. This van still has the original alternator, starter, shocks, springs and of course engine and transmission. It rides and drives nice with no real issues. I would rate the comfort very good. Well, with well over 400,000 this van remains a daily driver for our family. Three timing belt changes (two with water pumps) three spark plug changes, two radiators, a couple strut changes. I do a transmission drain and fill every year. This van just keeps on going. No rust to speak of-and we live in MI where our roads are heavily salted at least 4 months out of the year. It is almost scary that the alternator, starter, and of course engine and transmission are original . We still use this van for long road trips-but I did put the title in the glove box just in case we have to make a quick trade while far from home. My 92 YO mother comments that she loves the smooth and comfortable ride. This van has lasted more than twice as long as the two Dodge vans we had in the past (190K and 170K) and shows no signs of giving up. Yes, you do have to maintain it. I change the oil about every 5-10K miles in addition to the trans fluid changes. I add up what we spend on repairs and maintenance every year and it still does not make sense for us to lay out another $40K for a new one. I think Toyota never got the message of planned obsolescence. This van is used in mixed driving as we live in the country but travel to urban areas at least 3 times per week.

This car is a complete lemon. I have had so many things go wrong with this car and Toyota DOES NOT CARE. This will be the last Toyota I ever buy. The sliding door has been broken at least four times, I've had to spend money to replace several things in the drive shaft at a cost of hundreds of dollars, things fall apart and the quality sucks.

My 2004 Toyota Sienna had a faulty radiator. Who has to replace a radiator in today's cars? I contacted Toyota regarding this and they didn't care. I then had trouble with my power steering that has a recall on 2004 Sienna's but guess what? My particular vin # is not covered under the recall. Coincidence? I think not! I was told by my mechanic that Toyota takes about 1 in 3 calls and does something about it. Oh, also you get to replace the Timing Belt at 90,0000 miles to the tune of $1500! I bought this car thinking I could get a good 200,000 miles out of it (because according to the dealer - this is a quality vehicle and that's why we don't dicker on prices!). I don't think so!!!

I bought my 04 used in 2008 with 55Kmi. I just sold it in Oct. with 90K miles. I thought it was a great car. Super comfy and great smooth and quiet ride. My complaints would be the heated seats never seemed to get more than lukewarm. I also thought it took awhile to warm the interior of this car in the winter. The other issue we had was the DVD player would sometimes not eject the discs but other than that it was a great car for us. The only reason I sold it was because I was ready for something non "mom like". I would reccomend.

1) Sliding door not working properly: The minivan has one automatic sliding door and one manually operated sliding door. Shortly after purchase we recognized that the manually operated sliding door is not getting closed. After multiple visits at dealer service garage they told us that we should multiple times slam the door until it is properly closed. The problem is, if the door is not ajar the interior lighting is remains permanently on and it drains the battery over night. This is the second battery, which is not working anymore and I must purchased the third. 2) Brakes: All four brakes (disk and path) needed to be replaced before 40,000 miles 3) Brake noise: During turning the brakes makes noise. The service garage changed the front brakes one more time after it was replaced before, but the problem didn’t go away. 4) Safety built sensor damaged: The safety built warning light was blinking permanently until the sensor was replaced. 5) Air-conditioning: The air conditioning failed during a vacation trip. Toyota service told us that this was to be replaced anyhow due to a recall. 6) Under chassis plastic part fall of: Parts were replaced. 7) Tire Inflation Monitoring (TIM) signal: The left rear tire was replaced. Since the TIM warning light is blinking. After 3 visits to the service garage a permanent fix was not possible. Still blinking. At least they have used a high quality bulb, because I was hoping the bulb will be damaged. I try to find the fuse and deactivate the TIM,s module, because the service garage have no ideas anymore to fix it. 8) All four tires needed to replaced before 40,000 miles 9) All service and repairs was performed at authorized and certified Toyota dealer ship. My rational for buying for Sienna was, because at that time this was the only minivan with AWD, which is really important for Michigan winter driving condition. Additionally Sienna 2004 offered the Electronic Stability Control, which is an important safety feature. The price was higher compare to other minivan such as Honda Odyssey, but I was thinking that the premium price I am paying for this minivan is justified for the high quality of Toyota. At that time there was a quality image associate with Toyota. My wife, when she saw the Sienna for the first time she didn’t like the appeal of it. She told me that this minivan has a charm like “a used toothbrush”. I encouraged her to buy this minivan for the good quality and now my wife never lessons to me for car buying decisions.

Just had the spark plugs replaced at 74K. It was running fine, but had that done anyway at Toyota dealer along with PCV valve, air filter, oil change and tire rotation. Total bill was $625 with the tax (8.5%). The plugs are a big job on this year Sienna because the intake manifold needs to be removed to change them, hence it is about three hours labor for the plus alone. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that there is no distributor cap or plug wires to change. Van still runs and drives as new. There may be a slight whistling sound from the passenger side front window at highway speeds. Other than that, still happy with it.

Driving this van has been a joy because I understand it's not supposed to be agile; it's AWD for heavens sake, it's safe, big, roomy and luxurious. But watch out for run flats that rip apart and malfunction with strange bumps. The first one had a bump that couldn't be repaired, $300 to replace by dealer. The 2nd, became flat, then I drove 10 miles and it' ripped apart...I had to stop driving immediately and have it towed. Thank god for AAA. 3rd time, driving to NC and tire started sound bad, it was flat/dead/whatever, that's was it, I had it towed to nearest Firestone and told them to dump the run-flats and replace with regular good quality tires. Drove from PA to FL and back, with np.

Most Reliable Car Ever Owned

I have been driving the Sienna now for almost 7 years and people can't believe the car is that old. The exterior and interior looks incredible and the reliability has been outstanding. At 136,000 miles it still rides like a new car and has had virtually no mechanical problems. I had the spark plugs changed at 130,000 miles and the timing belt changed around 90,000, but other than those normal maintenance items I have had no repair bills with this car. This is the first Toyota I have owned and I am confident it will easily make 200,000 miles.

Of course all cars have various problems but the run flat tires on this AWD minivan is beyond horrible. Since purchasing new 6 years ago and with only 55k miles, I have replaced all my tires FOUR times at 200+ each not to mention the additional fees involved in disposing and balancing (that's a staggering $3,600+) Toyota service tech would just say,"yeah, they're not that good". Then the other night I simply go to roll down my driver side window for some fresh air,the window collapses for no reason into the door. I bring the car to Toyota, $600+ because of a defective cable.Technical says "these things happen, sorry". Not SORRY enough to stand behind your product!

70,000 miles and still going strong

Just turned 70K recently. No real problems to report. There were two warranty issues years ago that were taken care of by Toyota. Just bought the third set of tires, the Pirelli P4s are the way to go now. The Yokohamas were better than the original equipment, but the Pirellis are supposed to be better than the Yokos. Not much else to say. This vehicle has been trouble free and uneventful.

Purchased at 92k from original owner who had only needed routine maintenance. Aside from radiator (below), our only maintenance has been scheduled (including the 90k timing belt swap) and an ATF flush for good measure. OEM front rotors finally replaced at over 100k. After being bled to death by domestic vehicle repair costs (and that with doing lots of the work ourselves) this has been a wonderful change. Easy to maintain, well-thought-out engine layout, etc. Sure footed and nimble: great in upstate NY snow with dedicated snow radials, and a quiet, controlled ride with good quality all-seasons the rest of the year. Our local repair shop is experienced with Toyotas, a good source for advice.

We are really happy that we bought a used 2004 Sienna Limited edition vs Odyssey EXL. It has all the require elements that my wife and I were looking for in a minivan. Safety and entertainment features like side curtain airbag, DVD for the kids, parking sensor and handling. The mileage has not been bad. Getting around 16 city and 23 highway with full blast AC. The only draw back so far with the Sienna is that the tire doesn't last long. I am a conservative driver. Even with tire rate for 60K miles, I am getting around 27K. Oh well hopefully the Sienna doesn't breakdown on me until end of life on the new Michelin Hydroedge.

The dream is over.

We were happy with the van until everything started to break down after 6 years. The list is long but I will listed the most expensive issues. The automatic door broke down.We replaced the hinge for $400 because it was bent. The siding door motor was disconnected and we were told that it will be another $2000 to fix it. The radiator is leaking. The engine block heater did not work and needs to be replaced. The spare tire mechanism did not work and was told last year that it would cost us over $200 to fix. Luckily, we had an extended warranty that covered the cost. The CD/Radio system is malfunctioning. Maybe it is time to put the van to sleep

Toyota has done a superb job. We have had 5 minivans. 4 Chryslers and one Pontiac Montana. We buy all of our vans with high milage with the exception of the Montana. I would take a Sienna with 190,000 miles over the others with half that. At 190,000 it is still tighter and smoother than the Montana with 50,000 miles. We have taken a number of trips with all 8 of us plus the back stuffed with luggage add a car top carrier & we still average 22.8 miles to the gallon. The best we have seen on a shorter trip was 26.7 mpg with no luggage. I just put the top rated new Michelin tires on it & it is so quiet you would almost think you were flying. I will definitely buy another Sienna.

Too expensive on tires

Good for traveling but we have had to replace several tires and do more then normal alignments. More then one mechanic said the alignment was a problem. This has cost us money that should not be an issue. Also the noise level is bad and the CD players does not work well.

I am having a terrible experience with my vehicle. It is a 2004 Toyota Sienna and it currently has just over 90,000 miles on it. Even though I have had my vehicle serviced on a regular basis I was shocked when the compressor shut down on my way for service. I was in the middle of a six lane highway! When the compressor shut down it caused some metal to get into the engine system. My repair bill is going to be an estimated $3500.00. I have told the Toyota Customer Service Center my story and they have only offered to pay for the compressor parts and nothing else! I am very disappointed in Toyota's and the dealership's response for assistance in this unusual repair situation.

This vehicle is a lemon. We have lost count of the number of times we have had it in the shop. We have had to replace the heaters in both seats, the steering column, the back lift gate only works 40% of the time, (worked fine before the recall~once they replaced the motor~has not worked right since. This is an absolutely great vehicle. I love my Toyota Sienna. I drive about 30 miles to work, this vehicle makes its so much easy. Very smooth and steering gentle unlike my VW with is sporty and tight. If you are looking to buy a new or used Sienna just buy it blind-folded, you will not go wrong. Don't expect a great interior or a car that turns head, but if you are looking for maintenance free & great ride quality, this is the one.

We love this van. My wife especially likes. She is short and finds it easy to enter and electrically adjust the drivers seat. She used to pick up grand kids after school and it was very good for that. It parks easily with it's short turning radius. My only complaint is that it seems to wear tires and front brakes more rapid that I think it should. Probably because of the front wheel drive and weight of the van. I would buy another in a heart beat as I would any other Toyota.

I knew within 6 months this car would not last. I owned it exactly 5 years and had 115k miles on it. Repair Bill at 5 years after spending tons on the 90k service, more than $8k. 1) Both rear passenger sliding doors broken. Watch those cables visible on the sides just under the very back window, they fail and then get stuck in the motor. Over $2800 each to repair. 2) Leaking transmission (2x already) 3) Power steering Motor failure 4) Motor leaking oil in the head gasket 5) Motor leaking oil behind the timing belt 6)3 O2 sensors (yea 3) bad. ==> Junk

As a traveling sales rep I put a lot of miles on a vehicle. I also like to keep my vehicles until they are either no longer reliable or require repairs that exceed the value of the car. This van has been an excellent companion. I purchased it used with about 45,000 on it. I am now over 205,000 and it is running fine. The ride comfort and utility can not be beat. So far I have put 1 set of brakes and two sets of tires although one of these are winter tires mounted on steel rims. The only item that is a concern is the power sliding door. at about 150K the passenger side cable broke. I understand this is common in these years. I have not fixed it and I may not.

Never owned a Toyota, I was looking forward to it, I heard the stories(the cars never die). I believe that may be the case with this van,though it has not been with out flaws. Cons: Its underpowered compared to other vans I have driven, A loose body panel? Come on its a toyota, that shouldn't happen! At 53K the Radiator sprung a leak (Because of the design it can't be fixed by radiator shops,had to be replaced, $500! not good).mileage is below average (we never get over 19mpg on a tank) Pros: This sucker rides better than ANY luxury car I have been in (4200 lbs!) AWD is awesome, Interior is very solid & functional,great seats, it has 83k and drives like its showroom new. Hard to find a better Van.

Overall great vehicle, replaced brakes last year, but OEM tires after less than 30000, Michelin now make it exquisite to drive and handles like a car. Could be quieter with better sound insulation/window design. Interior could have used better layout and some adjustable light interior would be more user friendly especially at dashboard height and rear seat area. Windows interior front are very hard to clean.

We loved this van until the sliding power doors started giving trouble. The driver side door cable became frayed (at 65K miles) and is on the verge of breaking. After getting a quote of about $1200+ to fix it, we just stopped using the door. Now the passenger side is making popping sounds and it might go soon. We will eventually just use the doors in manual mode. This seems to be a design flaw that troubles a lot of owners. We have always been a Toyota family, but may now consider other brands.

We bought our Sienna in 03, and had for 6 years. We just recently sold to a family of 5. We were sad to see it go, but ready for something more sporty. Only issues were A/C motor, window off track, and tires wore down quickly. There was a weird noise when windows were down, and the drive by wire technology caused a jerking motion sometimes upon acceleration. These are minor to us considering 126,000 miles and no major mechanical issues. Has lots of room, and rides unbelievably smooth. We just bought an 05 Highlander, and hope to have same experience.

I have owned five Toyotas- trucks, cars, station wagon, Loved them all until this van. It has been nothing but problems, expense and disappointment. Battery replaced twice, display lights not trusted, VSF and TRAC failed within 14 months, radiator replacement, brakes constantly needing work, cover casket needs replacement, radiator seam cracked again- recalls. Electrical breaking down so auto door unlock no longer works when turn car off, rear gate breakdown/dangerous etc. A most expensive vehicle and one that has me wondering if my next car will be a Toyota after more than twenty years. Reminds me of the poor quality American brands- can't tell you how disappointed I am.

If there is an example that Toyota doesn't have its thumb on quality control, it is me. I jumped the car 14 times the first year I owned it even though the battery checked out O.K. They said it didn't need to be replaced. Just after the warranty expired, it needed to be replaced. Power door broke-$1500 to fix. Electric locks go crazy and can't open doors. Have to crawl out. Has never shifted smoothly although transmission checks out O.K. Frequently lurches and downshifts unexpectedly. Radiator replaced in 2nd year. None in stock had to wait a week. The rocker panels rusted in the first year. I had to change the tires in the first month - not good on snow and ice. Generally, a bad car.

I own a 2004 (8 seating) Toyota Sienna LE. I have had to replace tires 2 times. There have been 5 or 6 recalls. It is in the shop today with loud humming noise from engine. But the most disappointing thing is that the dash has split in 3 places. I contacted the dealership and Toyota directly and they offered me no help. The car was beyond its warranty, but I have owned 8 cars (4 Toyotas) during my driving life and have never had a dash split. Toyota told me that I must have done something to it, although they could not suggest what it might be. The van is kept in a garage when not in use and I always crack the windows when it is summer time. Cannot recommend Toyota anymore.

I still have the 2004 Toyota Sienna XLE Limited AWD van. It's been a solid performer since day 1. It's quiet, powerful, dependable, and comfortable on long trips. We live in New England, and it's great in the winter. We have the 7-seat option, so there is plenty of room. I have had a few service items, some expected, some not. Problem areas: Oxygen and Air/Fuel sensors, inconsistent electrical problems with doors & windows, brake rotors/disks, rear wheel bearings.

Still have this van. I think I've reviewed it on Edmunds before. It will be five years old in September 2009. It has about 58,000 miles on it now. I'm very happy with it, as is my wife. Other than a couple of minor things, sensors, a window motor, things like that, it has been trouble free. Even those things were covered under warranty. I don't think we've laid out any money for repairs. We have for maintenance, of course. Still on our second set of brake pads. Had the coolant and hoses changed. Should probably spring for plugs, cap and wires soon, but it still runs fine. Toyota treats its customers very well. Van is fantastic on trips, roomy, smooth, quiet. 25-26 MPG highway, 18-19 overall

All the problems we have encountered seem to be my fault not TOYOTA. Can U believe that? Run flat tires were replaced at 20km. Rims destroyed while replacing new tires. Side doors are rusting even though there's tape for protection. Sliding door wire snapped off because of rust, (2mths before end of warranty). Paint job on van must be poor quality because rust is showing through. We have changed our front & back brakes & wheel bearing the 2nd time in 4yrs. Really frustrated! Not to mention all the recalls. No one wants to acknowledge there are problems with 2004 awd vans but me

First off, I am 18 year-old guy, and I have no shame driving this. It looks great for a minivan, and can take off when you put your foot down! My friend said "I thought this was a minivan" when I got on the highway. Yet it still gets over 20 mpg hauling 6 people every day to school. No other minivan has a factory woofer in the back. Drove on an 11 hour road trip, and it was perfectly comfortable and returned 27 mpg doing a steady 70 mph with a full load. Dream vehicle for a road trip! I highly recommend to anyone needing a versatile reliable family vehicle.

Our 2004 Toyota Minivan 8 passenger was a fine, reliable, easy to drive, no frills (we bought the LE), family van. We've been camping, endless school pickups dropoffs, family events, etc. Never a worry. Then, the cable in the automatic door broke. Thank goodness we only have one auto slider. The cost to repair? $1400! We have duct taped the thing in the shut position until there is a recall on this problem. After our shock, I have found that there are more vans with this problem than can be counted. Too bad Toyota is not willing to deal on this. We had been considering Prius/Matrix/Camry for a purchase this year. Now we will reconsider.

115,000 and No Repairs

Have had this close to 5 years and have only changed oil, tires, and brakes at 100,000. I will admit that the OE tires gave way at 40,000 but have had good luck since (60k on the replacements). We don't baby ours--kid hauler, client hauler, material hauler (I'm in construction so this has seen it's share of tools and lumber). Only complaint is getting used to the blind spot in the mirrors, but that could be driver error. 23 mpg with suburban/highway, you have to remember to keep your foot out of it to get good gas mileage. This, with my other Toyotas (Truck, Camry) keeps me a raving fan.

I have never really been a "mini-van" person, But I have to admit that there is truly no better vehicle for a growing family than the Toyota Sienna. This van has more than enough room for two growing boys and all of the things that my wife and I need to transport. The ride is excellent and, even though it is big, it handles like a car and I have yet to find any major "blind spots." Overall a seriously comfortable and economical ride that will make even the most adamant anti-minivan folks think twice.

I'm a a person that vowed never to own a minivan but 3 kids later I went for it. The Sienna is the best car I've had. The interior space is great and really have had no problems, just regular maintenance and tires. Brakes were need at 50k but that is to be expected. We have a large tent trailer we tow and it pulls like a dream (we got the tow package). The only thing I would improve is the underside clearance. When towing (and even when not), you need to be aware of the clearance. It rides very low and you can bottom out if your not careful. I've heard all minivans are like this though.

Installed a trailer towing package and likewise installed an air lift air bag system for the rear coils and that made a tremendous difference and ride and handling, loaded or unloaded. Pulled a 2700 lb load 10 ft. cargo trailer to Dallas Texas and back like a breeze. At 105000 miles we did the first brake pad change and purchased premium high dollar replacement pads installed for $395.00 at our friendly Chev dealer. Toyota wants to rob you. Replaced the original factory crappy tires at 74000 miles with the superlative Goodyear Triple Tread Assurance tires (Nitrogen filled). This van handles like it were a Cadillac STS. Beautiful ride. Fuel mileage is consistent average is 28 down to 23.

Bought new 5/04, came with conventional Dunlop tires that were absolute garbage - had to replace them after first winter as it was like driving on skis. Michelin rules! Reliability otherwise has been good except for battery issues that many others have had - if one interior light is left on for several hours, battery is dead. About a year ago radiator showed signs of seepage which dealer wanted to replace to tune of $1000 - but since we had no puddles/coolant loss we just left as is - still ok. Steering wheel suddenly developed squeak at 68000. Not the worst car I have ever owned but not sure I would buy another.

This is the worst new automobile that I ever bought. Radio didn't work out of the dealership and it leaked when parked in the rain. A year later radiator cracked and was replaced. Then came multitude of recalls. Run flat tires needed to replaced every 15,000 miles. The kicker is when my van broke down due to a faulty heat sensor at 80,000 miles the Toyota extra care does not want to pay.

Purchased in Canada, this van is great in snow. After 44 months and 195000 km, this vehicle has had only routine maintenance. We love the ride, the room for luggage, great highway vehicle, smooth ride, short turning radius, excellent sound system. Only regret is not getting the XLE. I can think of nothing negative to say about this vehicle. Just replaced the timing belt, water pump and plugs at 185000 km and it runs like new again. Local Toyota dealer wanted $900 plus for that work but i had it completed by a trusted small town mechanic for $560. Am on third set of Michelin all-weather tires. Had my first alignment and the vehicle runs smooth as glass. Averaging 25.4 miles hwy and city.

We bought this van brand-new as soon as the new 2004s came out. Traded from our Honda Odyssey. The Sienna is far more comfortable, quieter and more fuel efficient than the Honda. It drives and handles like a Lexus RX 330, gets around 23 mpg city and 29 highway, (loaded at 75 mph). We have over 95,000 miles on it now, and have done nothing but routine service. One set of brakes and one set of tires. Amazing that this vehicle will do everything that the big SUVs will do and still get such great mpg. When I see the big SUVs at the pump complaining I just smile. It may not look as fancy on the outside, but it does all it is asked to do with style. for a lot less.

Beautiful ride. Crappy tires. On my fourth set. Needed them at 18000 39000 60000 and I know I will be ready for new ones soon. Brakes and calipers went in less than 2 years. Couldn't get in with Toyota, got in somewhere else and they wouldn't warranty it. Had 2 radiators, both under warranty. Driver and passenger doors stick and won't open sometimes. God awful sound coming from front tire, like a rotation sound. Got belts replaced for serpentine and squeal really bad. I love the ride and the comfort, but the little stuff kills you. Happy with the ride for the most part. Tires were huge issue. People who design them blame Toyota and Toyota doesn't do anything about it

Have owned our 2004 for almost 4 yrs. now. Have about 47,000 miles on it. It is built very well in terms of ride quality and noise. There have been two reliability issues, both of which were covered under warranty, a window motor and a speed sensor. The original tires were cheap garbage and lasted only about 40K. The best replacement is for them is the Yokohama's, a steal at about $100 each installed. The Yokohama's are rated for 80K. My only complaint with this vehicle is the gas mileage. We have averaged 17.7 MPG since new, and this is a mix of suburban and highway driving. It will get 25-26 MPG at 60-65 MPH, but only about 22-23 MPG at 75-80 MPH. Otherwise, safe, comfortable, reliable.

Owned this van for exactly 5 years and just received one big repair bill. After only 42K miles needed to replace the front control arms at considerable expense. Also needed to replace the rear brakes and rotors, and the tires. When asked why they needed replacement so soon, was told the van is very heavy. Otherwise, have been very happy with this van. Very comfortable on road trips. A bit disappointed in the number of recalls; gas tank, radiator, power steering hoses, and 2 other minor items.

As a sworn minivan hater, I finally saw the light in 2004. I spend much of my time toting my two young kids around, and this van is perfect for the job. There is a mirror to view the backseat built into the car! The back windows can go down! The sliding doors can be controlled by me! The rear liftgate is also automatic and can be controlled by the driver! As a mom, these are amazing benefits that I didn't even know I was missing with my old SUV. Other than going through a few sets of tires, I have had NO problems with it. The ultimate Mom-mobile, I highly recommend it to those who spend a lot of time schlepping the kids.

This has probably been one of the most disappointing vehicles that I have ever owned (and I have owned a lot in the past 50 years). Gas mileage has been worse than my GMC V8 pickup, cruise control that downshifts on the slightest grade, run flat tires replaced at 12K, wheels replaced due to excessive pitting, lower control arm bushings worn out at 35K, front brakes worn out at 35K (most of this mileage is long freeway trips) . My greatest concern is with the Toyota tire pressure monitoring system that does not monitor tire pressure but monitors the change in circumference of the tires. This does not work with run flat tires because the tire walls do not distort even with 0# air pressure.

84,000 miles and counting. This has been a great car. So far (knock on wood) we've had no problems at all and no unscheduled repairs. INCREDIBLE!! Some cars can hardly make it that far. Although, wear and tear is definitely apparent. It's much louder (engine, road noise, and wind noise), rougher, and slower than when it was newer. Toyota has sent home a few recalls, including a rear seat belt and the power lift gate. The middle seats don't recline! That's probably the worst part about the car. We had a 91 dodge caravan and those seats were more comfortable. Heated seats are awesome. Leather has hardly worn. Overall a great family car with more than plenty room for seven and tons of stuff.

Wonderful van

Now have 83,000 miles on my Sienna. It Has the best turning radius, comfort, handling and quiet cabin of any car I've owned. My friends all love it for its comfort, even in the back seat and its ride over curvy roads. It has enormous capacity. In 83,000 miles I've paid for one AC relay and normal maintainance and upkeep. I'm on the original set of brakes and they still have half their life. I feel very safe in this car.

Too Many Odd Problems

We bought this van when they were first released and we've had the feeling that Toyota was rushing to get them out to the dealerships. The driver side window fell off track and broke inside the door, the power door locked open and we had to cut the cable to get it closed, brakes and tires were replaced, and now the power steering needs repaired. Nothing has been covered under warranty or recall so far. We do wish we had held off and bought a Honda and may end up taking a loss and trading it in even though we had hoped to drive it for many more years.

Bought in May 2004. Back air conditioning control worked on and off. Needed new tires at 40,000 miles. Needed new tires again at 80,000, and new tires wore on front after only 15,000 miles, even after alignment. Brakes needed replacing at 50,000 and never worked right after. Transmission went out at 85,000 mi. and I got rid of the van. Was very disappointed with Toyota quality.

I have owned my Sienna for less than a year, yet have already discovered this van's virtues. It is very much the Camry of minivans: it is not a particularly exciting or involving vehicle to drive, but it gets you and 6 friends from point A to point B with little fuss. The drivetrain is refined and ride comfort is very good. All the vehicle's controls are simple to operate, and interior space is excellent. So far, I've averaged 9.5L/100km (25mpg) in mixed city/hwy driving, which is better than some 4cyl cars. I can't really comment on long-term reliability, but I haven't encountered any problems yet with the van. Overall, it's a very practical vehicle to own, albeit not a very inspiring one.

71000 miles. Handles great in snow with four 215/65/16 Mich Xice tires: backed 30 yards across a grass field covered in snow up to the bumpers and towed a pickup truck out that couldn't move on its own. Who needs AWD and the associated additional costs? Quiet on hwy, great for long trips. OE tires lasted 50K. Brakes serviced once. MPG >20 city, 24.5-27@75mph, hit 30mpg@60mph sustained with 7 people on board on one trip. Only unexpected repair: radiator leak, cost $800, was not on recall.

This has been a great vehicle. Even after 90000 miles it is tight and smooth. I enjoy the handling, tight turning radius, smooth Lexus-style and ride, great meileage, high-cube storage, rides level under heavy loads, excellent heat and A/C in all zones. It has never been in the shop other than for routine maintenance and the few factory recalls to correct issues that I would have never otherwise noticed. I appreciate all of the standard options, such as tilt/telescopic wheel, rear power passenger windows, 5-speed automatic transmission. My next Sienna will be the XLE with leather, sunroof, power lift-gate, back-up sensors, etc.

We're not aggressive or rough drivers, using a minivan for what it was intended, and we have followed all maintenance plans through local toyota dealer. Our experience has been miserable: First year, sliding doors rattled incessantly. Had to have door seals replaced (actually missing). 2nd year, catalytic converter went out, somehow causing traction control malfunction in snow storm. 3rd year: Power sliding door motor burned out. Out of warranty. Dealer provided parts, we paid for labor. Into 4th year now, cracked radiator, torn CV boots, intermittent/shorting rear heater controls. This is worse than the 1998 Dodge Caravan we traded in!!! Looking for something different now.

After owning a Toyota Tundra for a couple years, I decided I'd buy another Toyota. Unfortunately, the Sienna has had a bunch of problems. Our most recent problems involve poor build quality, including: 1. The lock mechanism on the rear door came apart because all of the screws fell out. 2. The inside door panel of the driver side door is partially disconnected from the door and gets stuck on the weather stripping when you try to open the door. The clips that hold the panel on are plastic and they broke easily. 3. The first set of tires wore out very quickly. 4. The first set of brakes wore out very quickly. 5. The battery goes dead after about 15 minutes if a door is left open.

Great van to roll the kids around in. Don't know why other people have issues with MPG? I ran this on Oahu traffic (bad) with 19 MPG and now up in the NW getting 22.1 avg. Step a little lighter on gas, it is powerfull for a van but not a race car, standard gas saving tips.... The OEM tires were awful and I did replace them @ 29K. Now up to 40K with no issues.

I love my Sienna, I carry everything but the kitchen sink in it. It is roomy and has made life easier for me and my 4 year old. My only disappointment is that I do not think it is fast enough when I have to enter the highway or pass someone. Also, outside noise is not filtered and the air conditioner is not strong enough. Could be because it's a big car. Not sure, but overall, I'm happy. Oh, it's also great on gas!

I've owned several Toyota vehicles and never had the troubles encountered with this vehicle. My primary complaint is that the AWD van came with Dunlop run flat tires. These wore out at about 11,000 miles. Toyota replaced the first set due to all the complaints with the premature tire wear wearing. The transmission has a mind of it's own. It hesitates at times (usually between 5-10 mph). It's been reprogrammed by the dealer one time thus far. Driver's side wind noise is problematic. We average about 17 mpg.

Car driven all over New England in all kinds of weather. It runs great, but the mileage is not. Features are terrific and it is fun to drive. Lots of room, lots of storage. Engine is quiet. Turning radius is tight - very helpful. Good visibility. Comfortable seats.

Only complaint now is the tire noise. Hated the Run Flats and replaced them at 19,000 which meant I had to buy a new wheel. Toyota refunded all my cost. Wish I could see better to back up, bought a $100 back up camera and fixed that prob. Middle row seats are heavy to remove and should fold flat into frame but are manageable as is. All in all I really like the car. The AWD is important to me as our driveway is steep and snow makes it hard to navigate. Passengers have told me middle row seats are uncomfortable with lump in low back.

I have had a great deal of experience with numerous vehicles. My late father was in the automoble business for 40 years, so I have owned almost all makes and models over a 45 year period. I did like my Ford pickups, but it became difficult to get in and out of the back for me and my dogs. I use my vehicles for hunting, so ease of access is a prime consideration. This Toyota minivan is the answer to my dreams in comfort, convenience, and ease of use. Simply stated, the best automoble I have ever owned!

We purchased our Sienna thinking that we would have many happy carefree miles in a high quality vehicle. What we found was issues with the traction control that locked up our wheels and required significant repairs not once but twice. In addition we had an overheated radiator (later recalled). In total this vehicle was a bust - will never buy a Toyota again.

Not a lot of problems with our 2004 LE FWD. The passenger side power window motor did fail at around 20,000 miles. Replaced under warranty but did have to leave overnight for repair. Recently needed coolant sensor, thermostat and air/fuel sensor at 28,000 miles, but these were replaced in a day under warranty. The Dunlop tires wear out very quickly. Replacing them now at 28000 mi. with Yokohama Avid TRZs. Gas mileage is lower than expected, averaging 17.3 MPG over the past two and a half years, and that is almost all suburban and highway!

Have had my LE FWD for two and a half years now. The only problems have been a faulty L/S front power window motor, replaced under warranty,and the moulding on the L/S of the second row seat keeps popping off. Looks like there is a screw or pin missing that holds the molding to the seat.

After deciding to step "down" to a minivan from a pickup ;) the next big decision was which one? Toyota, Honda, Kia or Dodge? Once we had test driven all 4, the Sienna was the hands down winner! I am as happy now, 3 years later, as I was the day we took delivery. This vehicle has NEVER let me down and has lived up to all its positive reviews.

Trouble with tire changing & body paint

I have had incredible trouble changing a tire. The car fell off the jack and I can't get the tire gauge light to go off. It took my husband over a half hour to get the tire off the bottom of the car in the weird position it was in to unscrew it and get it under the car. If we had been on the side of the road when these flats happened, we would have been killed. Paint chips off the bumpers badly. My battery has died numerous times because of interior lights not auto turning off. All screws holding the flaps protecting motor over front time came out with flaps hitting wheels causing great scare. Toyota wouldn't replace because out of mile warranty (we had to evacuate to Dallas!).

We have had our Sienna for 3 years now. The van was purchased in lieu of an SUV when we found out we were having twins. Our oldest likes the third row single seat, while the twins take up the captains chairs in the middle. The split third row gives us a lot of flexibility in storage or an extra two seats when needed. We love the van and have had no issues/complaints with the reliability or quality. The only issue that has risen is the battery has died many times. Each time has had a cause, i.e. a light left on. However, I don't think one interior light should kill a battery. My 2002 Tundra has never had battery issues. It may be time to upgrade the battery.

Love this van. Only problem is I wished we would have waited for the second line 2004s to come out. Had major run-flat problems... don't get them. I call if I have a flat anyway. A lot of technical / recall glitches. This van is in shop more than my old crummy Caravan. Love the luxury of the Limited. We are in process of trading 2004 Sienna in for the Toyota Sequoia. I would buy the Sienna again, just not the first run of the changed model.

We are glad we bought the Sienna. We haven't had any problems with the van. It gets very good gas mileage for a full-size van. We got 26-27 mpg with 6 people and loaded with luggage plus going over mountains. The van has great power also. If you want a van that is fun to drive, good mpg, and dependable, the Sienna is it.

I travel at least once a month, being retired I wanted a comfortable, reliable, safe vehicle to ride in. I have taken my Sienna from San Francisco to Canada, to New York, to Florida, you name it. This van is plenty comfortable, very safe, and reliable! There are plenty of neat features, such as laser cruise control which slows you down when approaching a car, plenty of power when traveling, I passed cars going up steep grades, and the AWD is awesome, never need chains and travels great on snow.

Good car, lousy tires. At 10,000 miles, run flat tires are shot. Cost $1,300.00 to replace. Toyota will give you one replacement free but what happens after the next 10,000 miles? We have to shell out $1,300.00 for another set of tires. TOYOTA NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING MORE.

Run Flat tires come standard on this vehicle. Unfortunately this is the worst type of option that toyota could put on this type vehicle. I already have changed the tires twice. I am on my third set of tires. Toyota is aware of the problem but apparently continues to retrofit even the current 2007-07 models with the run flat tires. The sienna awd xle can be equiped with conventional tires and a spare tire conversion kit but if the consumer opts for this it is at his expense and he loses the ability to fold down the third row seat.

We've had the recalls with the radiator, seat belt and door. Fine. But the radiator KEEPS leaking and they haven't been able to fix it in 4 trips to the dealer. We have just over 40K miles on it now and have had the tires replaced and brakes at 15k! We are pleased with the utilitarian aspects. (After all, that is the reason we buy these things right?) We just wish that the radiator thing and the brake thing wasn't there to fix.

The design is excellent, but since the very beginning I have had numerous qualtiy problems. Battery dead twice. Sliding door did not work (spring broken), despite many repairs, sun roof auto feature does not work, air conditioning broke down (car two and a half weeks in shop), back panel of driver seat fell off, heated driver seat did not work, also one or two recalls.

I'll start off by saying I've always been a fan of Toyota. Until now. This Sienna performed great for 1 year, with the exception of fuel economy. It is not even close to the EPA estimate. The sliding side doors are difficult to close properly which caused the battery to die often. Electic windows broke 2x. 3-4 recalls in the first year. Then after the warranty -38k miles- the muffler broke and then the glove box door broke. My 100K mile extended warranty that I purchased for $1000 didn't cover either repair (fine print). I called Toyota and they were rude. Called it normal where and tear. Runs rough at 52k miles. I'm now trading it in. junk.

I love this van! It is perfect for my family of 5. It is fun to drive as well as easy. I commute daily and have taken it on a long road trip and have enjoyed driving it. I thought I wanted a big SUV, I had an Explorer before the Sienna. I am so glad I have this vechicle instead. The mileage is fair, however I am in commuter traffic work days.. .I do get much better mileage than my Explorer. I feel as though it is safe for my children with the built in safeties. I really can't think of a negative to say.

I have only owned toyotas in my entire life and bought the Sienna because of my past experiences of Toyota's reliability. This vehicle has been anything but reliable. Within first year broke down because radiator blew, two times power steering gave out, doors won't open, multiple recalls and in short, a nightmare! With three small children reliability and safety are of most importance and this car has not provided that. I am extremely disappointed with the overall performance of this vehicle!

Shortly after purchasing my Sienna, I began having problems. The dealer couldn't figure out why my check engine light came on several times a week, so they sent the van to another dealer two hours away. That dealer replaced the computer. My radiator has been replaced, all hoses have been replaced, and the fuses blow constantly. I LOVE this van as far as comfort and ease of driving. I am just very disappointed that I spent this much money and I'm having this many problems. We are in the process of purchasing another vehicle.

After 30k miles,I have a good feel for this van. Even with a bad back, I can drive 2400 miles in 5 days with absolute comfort. The nav system did give wrong info on 2 occasions. Hesitation, down shifting on the slightest grade (poor power), and poor city mileage (13-14 mpg) existed right from the beginning. I feel these problems are from the AWD powertrain requirements. Highway mpg=23-24mpg. Locally, overall mpg=16-17. The runflat tires lasted 20k and were almost bald. Avoid the AWD and you will be much happier.

As older drivers, comfort is of utmost importance. After driving for 8 hours we arrive without the normal stiffness. It is wonderful to handle and with the wonderful turning radius it will practically turn on a dime. Took a little practice parking as it handled a bit differently than the 1998. The auto doors work beautifully and makes it so easy to let guests into the van without getting in and out. The AC is great. I am a Toyota fan. I love the reliability and dependability that is standard with all Toyota products. Oh sure maybe it doesn't have all the trap doors but you won't see it by the side of the road dead.

I have to say that my 2004 Sienna has been the most trouble-prone vehicle I've owned. Multiple recalls and numerous repairs including odd items like broken rear gate closers and driver door closer. Difficulty getting the extended warranty (purchased through dealer) to step up.

This is my first Toyota purchase and it's not been a good experience. The van has had two recalls - one to put a tape on the doors because they are prone to rust? The other for a seat belt anchor. We also got a notice that the radiator is prone to leaking and that they would extend the warranty on it to 72K miles- little comfort to me. Also the power door on the passenger side and both heated seat elements have had to be replaced. In addition, the tires need replacement even though it gets many highway miles and the tires get rotated and balanced regularly.

I like nearly everything about the 2004 Sienna XLE we purchased except for the fact that the Battery has rundown at least 10 times over the 18 months that we've owned it for various reasons. E.g. children left interior lights on or door open. Extremely frustrating, and no Toyota fix available. For a van sold on all its family friendly features (which is mostly accurate) this was one major engineering oversight.

My first Sienna and there is nothing about this vehicle that I do not like. It has a smooth quiet ride, lots of power, good fuel economy, plenty of room, everything fits and works well. It has been to the dealer 9 times for regular maintainence , oil, lubes only. It is a first rate travelling vehicle, a great highway cruiser. Our next vehicle will be the XLE with leather, 17" wheels, sun-roof, laser cruise etc but no flat-free tires after reading the comments here. Even the LE comes very well equipped with items that others call options. We have enjoyed 72000km (45000 mi) with zero problems.

I'm a repeat Sienna owner. Leased a '97 and loved it. Bought a top-of- the-line '04 and wish I had leased it, so I can dump it. Navigation system stinks. It is disabled when car is in motion. Not even a passenger can plot a route without stopping (usually on the side of a busy highway!!) 'Run-flat' tires are sold as a feature. They wear out in 20K miles and cost 3X the price of conventionals. No spare brings up all sorts of safety problems. They are rated as 'Ultra High Performance All- Season'. What? On a minivan? Transmission shifts very poorly, particularly when downshifting then accelerating, as one does at yield signs, toll booths, etc.

We bought this new, just as they came out. What we like: excellent mechanicals, interior well thought out, laser cruise for long trips back east is fabulous, dual auto doors, and folding seats work as advertised, DVD works well. The only mechanical I am not overjoyed with is the brakes they are just OK. First toyota and I am disappointed with the paint quality, interior build is ok but not quite what I expected, and recalls have been more numerous than I expected. I would like to see a lesser tint on the back windows, as visibility is impaired. Mileage is fair at 17 overall, in retrospect I would have gotten the FWD version, no need for the AWD probably.

No Spare and Run Flats are Terrible!

I love the van in every other way except: If you buy the AWD, consider that run flats: 1) Only last 20-22K miles. 2) Cost $1300 to replace (you must replace all 4 tires at once). 3) THERE is no SPARE - so if you have a "side" blow out of the tire, you cannot drive the car! 4) The runflats are very heavy and add to road noise and poorer gas milage. 5) Run flats are very hard to get - must wait days to get them (thus, can't drive vehicle) THEY DON't TELL YOU THIS WHEN YOU BUY THE CAR. Most dealerships don't know much about what spare fits in the van. Most Sienna message boards talk about how it costs $6-800 for a spare that makes your rear folding seat not fold-able. Bye.

I have had my Sienna (2004) for a little over one year. Already, I have had to replace the radiator, seatbelts, parts in the steering wheel, and have other problems the dealership just can't fix. I bought a Toyota for the reliability since I am on the road often with my kids. I am so sorry I did! I refuse to drive the car on long trips now. I've had it to the dealer four times in the past two months for repairs. The last time in, I had two pages worth of repairs/recalls on a one year old vehicle! I also have a sluggish take off which the dealer says is normal. The A/C doesn't blow cool when idle (traffic) for more than five minutes as well. Wish I had never bought this one.

We have 3 kids, so we decided to buy a minivan last year. We chose this Sienna because it had an 8 passenger option and rides smoother. Even after the new Odyssey came out, we still like the Sienna's looks better. The flexible seating has been great, swallowing various combinations of kids and stuff. Gas mileage is less than advertised, averaging 17 mpg, but we do almost all city driving and my wife and I are both leadfoots; our 300M got about the same and our Civic gets about 25, so that's not bad. Passing power is good on the highway and it's silky smooth ride is nice around our city's lousy streets. A keeper.

Love this van. Good looks, comfort and convenience. Needs a power hatch which is only available on the XLE model. We somehow manage 29 mpg on the freeway. Toyota needs to simplify their option packages and regional differences as they are WAY to confusing!!! Honda has it down right. We are uprading to an 05 XLE soon.

Serious design problems disappoint

There are two serious design flaws that have proven very disappointing in what is otherwise a nice vehicle. 1. The A/C condenser is mounted right behind the front grill. It is exposed to rocks and other road hazzars. When a small rock passed through the grill openings and created a hole in the condenser, my repair cost was $790 not covered by warranty because the dealer considered it road hazzard damage not covered. 2. The accelerator extremely annoying on this van. It is sluggish through the first 1/2 of the travel range of the pedal. Then for a small portion of the pedal range, it is very jerky and extreme with weird transmission behaivor. The dealer declares it "normal".

So far, Toyota has replaced the radiator and fuel tank under recall as well as an electrical issue and a door seal issue. Under warranty the lift gate plungers were replaced after they outright broke off. Then, the A/C compressor had to be replaced because apparently some kind of road hazzard bounced up and put a hole in it. Poor design / positioning? I mean that's an expensive component to be left exposed to a rock on the interstate. N bolders out there. All in all, I bought a Toyota because of the reliability reputation and so far in 2 years it has been at the dealer a total of 9 days. That seems excessive in just two years.

I must have gotten a bad one, I've have the AC worked on three times, the road noise inside the vehicle is terrible, it gets bad gas mileage (20 mpg) at best, it has a glunk in the steering that the dealer can't fix and the ride isn't that good.

While we love the van most of the time, we have had it in the shop way too many times (at least 8) in 20 months for non-routine items. There is a problem with the middle row passenger side seat belt that Toyota can't seem to fix after 5 visits, and the drivers side sliding door creaks (3 visits), as well as 3 recalls (some trips we had multiple things done). The build quality isn't what we had hoped for from Toyota.

My 1st experience with a Toyota minivan has been an exceptional experience. I selected the CE model based solely on economics (I'm one of those 'fixed-income' Seniors). The ride is luxury sedan-like; the horsepower is more responsive than I imagined it could be, the fit and trim is exceptional (no flaws could be detected, and I'm anal about detail!) the rear fold away seat is a great help to an old foggy and when it's up, my wife loves the convenience of storing the groceries back there in the well.

This minivan rides exceptionally smooth and has horsepower beyond belief. My wife that said she would never be caught dead in a minivan says now that she wouldn't trade it for the world. The van feels like something out of the Lexus line as far as quietness & structure. Everything in this van was carefully thought out from the armrest storage bins to the engine. I personally have not driven a car of this quality ever, and I've drive a lot of cars. Quick, quiet, and impressive.

Still have a 92 Previa. Sienna is much like it only quieter and more power. Comfortable ride and good inside features. No mechanical problems. Excellent room for tall people. Great cargo space. FWD needs studed snow tires for going up hills in snow/ice conditions. 4 wheel drive works better. Good value for your money. Son used it for a special driving course and it handled just great in quick tight turns.

Great features not found on previous models. Safety is also upgraded. Interior is stylish and flexible. Toyota quality is why we chose this minivan, however, that quality is not present in their "fly-by-wire" throttle. It turns out that the computer controlled throttle (not cable)often causes hesitation. This is a common problem with Toyota and they have attempted to remedy this via a programming "patch". What they call "Normal Operation" is what we and many other Toyota owners of this newer technology are stuck with.

Picked the Sienna over the Odyssey for 1 reason, quality. The design of this van is one of a kind (until Honda ripped it off in 05) Lots more options than the Honda including the keyless entry. Lots more room than other models.

Wow, we really love this van. We tow a 3500 pound boat, have 2 kids, and 3 dogs and this is exactly the vehicle we need. We ordered it (waited 4 months) in 2003 and took delivery in March. The all wheel drive is incredible. When I pulled out boat out this year people with f-150 pickups were slipping (2wd) but my awd sienna just pulled out the boat with no problems. I know most folks wont pull a boat with a minivan - but with 230 hp you can with ease. We of course have had nooo problems with this van. We traded in a 2000 odyssey on this van an it is a big upgrade. The interior is soo plush. I drive a lexus and I like this van better (wife drives the van).

Overall a fantastic van. Chose between the 2005 Odyssey and the 2005 Sienna - the Odyssey was great but we needed the 8 seats and weren't willing to pay the extra Honda was asking. The only reason I would recommend the Honda over the Sienna is the standard stability control and the standard side airbags which are a big deal for us. The need for 8 real seats was the tie breaker for us. The Honda handles and is more fun to drive but the Sienna is no slouch either. All things being equal, the Toyota represented better overall value and suited our needs better.
