While the Sequoia is not great on gas mileage, it has by far been the most reliable vehicle I've owned. I bought a 2004 SR5 brand new and kept the oil changed. It still starts instantly like it did over 10 years ago. I've taken my teenage boys and their teammates to tournaments, and everybody sat comfortably with enough cargo space for luggage and soccer backpacks. I have replaced the battery, shocks ,struts, and brakes. I have never replaced the timing belt, and it has almost 300,000 miles on it. I have had 3 drivers run into me while sitting still and this vehicle has kept me safe. My DVD player has never been great from day one. The movies get stuck in the player. The radio volume button has stopped working properly. The motor of the back window wiper has died. Neither Toyota or the dealership notified me of the ball bearing recall. Thank God I wasn't traveling at a high speed when mine broke. The arm rest is broken and the seat cushion has torn on the driver's seat. I've owned Chevy, Ford, Nissan, and Infiniti. The Toyota has given me fewer problems and better performance than all of them.

Have owned nothing but Toyotas, from a 1979 Corolla to the 2003 Sequoia. Bought it to pull an enclosed trailer when needed. Wife fell in love with it. This Sequoia was part of the recall for the rusted frame/underbody. It also recently was recalled for the faulty passenger airbag. Put about 25K miles on it, and it did have an intermittent check-engine light on it - for evap issue i think. Usually got 15 MPG with it, 13 or so when pulling the trailer. As high as 21.5 on a recent trip that was mostly highway. Vehicle was rear-ended recently - probably a good thing we were driving this or could have had serious injuries. VERY solid SUV with good reliability.

Just O.K. at best

My 2004 Sequioa with 130,000 miles isn't that great when compared to my 2003 Tahoe with 258,000. When comparing the two, the Sequioa isn't nearly as powerful, fuel economy isn't as good, and the towing capacity pales in comparison. The Sequioa doesn't ride or drive as well as the Tahoe. Many of the plastic pieces are falling of of the Sequioa, but I guess the worst thing for me is the drivers seat. If you are over 6 feet tall with long legs then you can forget about being comfortable while driving because the seat will not move back far enough. I will definitely buy the Chevy Tahoe again. It's a great truck. The Sequioa, I doubt that I'll ever buy another.

What can I say - Loved our SR5 to death. June 2013 my wife and kids were in a bad accident. Rear ended and slammed into the back of another truck because the other car got so deep under the rear she couldn't fully stop. Bought ours on July 3, 2004 almost 9 years. We were never happier with another car. Planned on driving it until the wheels fell off. The safety of this truck left my family just fine. The frame stopped the other car in its place amazing. Wished we could have kept it but insurance claimed total loss. What a shame, cried for several days - seems silly but when you have such good memories with a car like this it's hard to let go. 155k+ miles and valued at $13k. Way to go Toyota!

My 04 Sequoia was terrific. I put 200,000 miles on it & it still ran great. This car is fun, fast comfortable & safe. Not only does it looks great, it performs excellent. It is 100% reliable inspite of the fact that I didn't serve it as often as I should've . In 2012 I had a serious accident in this car. I was driving 70 mph on the freeway downhill, "the bottom line," I lost control of the car which cause the car to spend in 2 full circles & ram the front end directly into the cement wall & it was total. I walked away with only a seat belt burn on my neck. The Hway patrol said he never seen anyone servive such an accident. My insurance gv me 15k for my lost which proves it holds its value.

We purchased our vehicle (AWD) off Craigs list from a dealer in So. California. It had 92,000 on it and is in pristine condition. We've had a 100,000 mile service done which included bumper to bumper service and the vehicle continues to drive like new. It was purchased as a replacement for our 1998 Toyota 4-runner with 250k on it was totaled by a friend. The Sequoia has more than we will ever need in a vehicle and we've taken two out of state trips with it. It has the room, the comfort and the separate temperature zones is something that definitely comes in handy. Our conclusion, we won't buy anything else. Other than the less than desirable fuel economy, its a great vehicle.

I bought this used in Aug.2008. I LOVE it! Drives very comfortable, handles well, feels more like driving a car than a truck,& has great "power up" when taking off. The leather's still in great condition. It's very comfortable for road trips; bought it with 88,000 miles & it's currently at 125,000 miles due to in/out of state dance comp's. There's been NO major repairs on this SUV. Previous owner kept fabulous repair log with minor repairs; new breaks, routine maintenance & oil changes. We've had no mechanical/interior/exterior issues at all. This SUV is in for the LONG HAUL & still going STRONG! We are VERY pleased with the quality, design, & comfort. Will never own anything but a TOYOTA!

I love the size of the Sequoia, but I have had lots of problems... more than all my other cars combined. Replaced the transmission, rear window stopped working after almost decapitating my dog because it randomly opens and shut, the VSC shuts down on rainy day... loss of power when turning, the engine depowered while driving on the highway and almost got me killed. It eats tires... supposedly a problem with the $2500 VSCcomputer. The paint quality stinks! Scratches!

What's all the hype?

I find this vehicle roomy & comfortable, but frustrating! Ignition is great: no holding key. Climate controls are OK. Defogging windshield is difficult. Controls, at steering column & elsewhere, are awkwardly placed & frustrating to use. Beware: power outlets go dead when the car is off. Seats are easy to move once you get used to it. Oddly enough, you can't get the rear spoiler w/the moonroof we wanted. This brings me to the most annoying thing: Noise & odors are ridiculous with open windows. The rear gate window is adjustable, but, don't open it when you accelerate: you will suck fumes. Open the side window and you get a loud pulsating noise. Open the moonroof & it sounds like an airport.

Just bought this the end of Sept. '07 with 48K on it. It now has 52.5k. We are a family of 5. We liked all the bells and whistles on this model because it had everything that the Limited had minus the heated seats. We own a '96 Tahoe, and just got rid of an '01 Odyssey minivan, and this takes the vans place. We gave up fuel mileage (22 vs. 18 in the Sequoia) and ride comfort. The Toyota definitely rides rougher than the Tahoe, but it gets better mileage and we love all the room/extra seats. We have had one mechanical issue, we had to replace the oil pressure sending unit. My wife is dissapointed that the rubber cup holder "fingers" have been torn/worn prematurely.

Had all carpet replaced at 1600 miles. Had interior trim panels replaced. Plastic covers keep falling off. Owned MB, audi and GM Yukons. My 94 E320 looks brand new. Toyota suggested I go back to buying MB product. Sequoia interior looks like junk. Toyota would not acknowlege poor manufacturing quality. Kept trying to send me to dealer but they did not build the car, Toyota did. Exceptionally poor customer service from Toyota Corporation. Paint is cheap as well.

We bought an 04 4WD SR5. We have a dog, 3 kids, and travel with lots of stuff (kids 4, 2 ,4 mos). Rides well, no build issues. Fit finish ok (a few panel gaps). Mileage has been poor but typical. This is a 4 speed trans too. Older 4WD has not been an issue, we live in Maine and works well. But it lacks little things. 2nd row lock for seat fold up to enter third row. No fold flat. No remote start option or camera accessible cup holder in 2nd row. Lack of lateral support in front seats. No power lift gate (my wife has tough time reaching this). Overall IÂ’d consider a Suburban or Denali over this if I made the purchase today on a new 07-08. Used however IÂ’d get the Toyota.

This is wife's favorite vehicle. Downside, horrible roof vibrations if you open moonroof while driving. Rear end failed at 20k. Wheel bearings failed at 38k. Trunk latch stuck and dealer says warranty doesnt cover anything affected by rust, even though salesman said extended warranty covers "everything".

Leg room for driver is an issue if over 6'. Overall this is a quality vehicle. Having driven all other SUVs, this is the winner. Leather is a MUST if you have kids, also if Toyota could put backseat controls for driver to use when kids fall asleep. Great buy!

We have owned this SUV for a little less than a year and it is our first Toyota. We are really impressed with Toyota quality. The interior is not quite as plush and "fancy" as some, but I think it dominates in every other category. We bought this vehicle certified used with a bumper to bumper 7 year 100,000 mile warranty. I doubt we will need it though.

We purchased a 2002 Grand Cherokee when we started a family and didn't want to go the minivan route. The Cherokee was a nightmare (maintenance, performance, etc.) So, we saw a great deal on a new 2004 Sequoia at the end of 2003 and went for it. We have loved this car (and we aren't really "car" people). We go away a lot for the weekend and it's so easy to just throw stuff in the Sequoia and go. It rides so smoothly and we haven't had any problems with it at all. We added a DVD player b/c it was cheaper to have it done on our own than @ the dealer. My only complaint - it is cumbersome & hard to park sometimes. But - that's a large SUV for you. GREAT SUV!

I've owned Ford Explorer, Jeep Cherokee, Dodge Durango - this is my SECOND Sequoia, what does that say about the car? Ultimate in comfort; I've got two 6'5" family members, and the four of us (plus 2 large Rottweilers) are comfortable in this great car on a weekly 3-hour drive to New England ski areas! The power folding exterior mirrors are a godsend when getting on and off the ferry. . . if this car could get great gas mileage, it would be perfect (we get 17 city and 20 highway).

Just passed 45K on my 04 Sequoia, It hurts to drive into gas station. Except that, I don't have too much complaint. It is roomy, comfortable (the best comfortable seats on cars I ever owned), quiet BUT clumsy. What can I complain? It is a BIG SUV, of course, it won't drive/handle as easy as Accord... I would like to see it acclerate a little faster at traffic light. Feel like grandpa when light turns green.

I have owned my Sequoia for over a year now. Other than gas mileage, which is a fundamental problem for ALL full size SUVs (my Sequoia gets 14-15 mpg - not too bad). It has an awesome look and drives like you're on a cloud. It has a very quiet ride too. We often pack 5 adults and 2 kids in the car for 2hr plus rides and it has tons of room and comfort. It is the first auto I have purchased that I have told people is the best auto I have ever owned. Other manufacturers take a lesson from Toyota... they got it right!

I was disappointed with this vehicle. I had always heard how wonderful Toyota was and actually I liked my jeep grand cherokee much better. I only traded it because I needed a bigger vehicle. The rear liftgate has been stuck shut 7 times and this seems to be a common problem. Also - the rear window stopped working after about 50K miles. When the seats are folded up, they slam backwards and can catch a kids hand or foot if you're not careful. I also think for the price, the passenger side should have a power lumbar (like the Chevys and Jeeps have). Overall - the seats are stiff and not comfortable - when I trade I will be going back to Jeep or to a Suburban.

Fantastic SUV by far, this SUV has factory installed side air bag curtains for safety, fuel economy is not like a 4cyl but if you are buying this vehicle for gas mileage, it is not what you need. This vehicle rides like a feather top bed. Best comfort for 8 passenger SUV from other makes and models of this size. Resale and trade in value will hold up on this vehicle more that others as well. It pulls my 25' boat with ease on the hiway and out of the water with no sweat. I am looking forward for the 2007 model.

I have had 04 Sequoia for over 2 years and 45k in miles. I hope to give some real depth for consumers that are trying to make a decision. The vehicle has a great engine. In USA everyone Wants "Horsepower". The truth is it is about Torque, gear ratios, transmission, then horsepower. The engine is refined and so smooth. The ride is second to none. I put over 20k per year on it. Interior detail, do you want a bunch of gizmos, or money to go into workmanship! 4x4 has locking differential! Great stereo.

I have this car for two months now and after 1000 miles have few complaints. Smooth ride, solid construction, very quiet, good acceleration and tons of room. Turning ratio is good, but the vehicle can be a little tough to manuever in parking lots. Rear visibility is partially obscured by rear seat headrests. Gas mileage about 15, but that's expected for a V- 8. My biggest gripe is that auto-off headlamps were not on this vehicle, despite it being listed as standard equipment on Edmunds website. Seems Toyota builds some with it and some without.

After having the vehicle for almost a year I am impressed but not overwhelmed. It has a ton of space inside yet handles like a much smaller vehicle. The interior design is uninspired but practical. Lots of space to store things and tons of cupholders. Due to its size it is difficult to park in crowded lots or garages. It also only gets 15.7 miles to the gallon - not bad for a vehicle of this size but still expensive to operate. Also, for a vehicle in this price range there are several common amenities that Toyota doesn't even provide. Memory Seats? Not available. Navigation? Nope. Satellite Radio? Check elsewhere. 4yr/50K mile warranty? You have to settle for 3yr/36K.

This vehicle has been great. You will not be disappointed. The only problem I have is that the passanger door does not shut like the rest; misaligned, however no wind noise heard. I am afraid to go to dealership because the fix might be worse. My SR5 is loaded without the sunroof I dont need. Looks better than the Expedition.

My wife and I began our search for our new SUV by driving everything in sight. We Looked at Cadillac's, Lexus, Acura, and Toyota. After driving the Sequoia my wife was sold and so was I. The ride is smooth as as air and it handels very well for it's size. make no mistake this SUV is huge. This is truly a great vehicle, the 4WD handles nice, and so does the rwd. The interior comfort is great I am a large man and often find vehicles lacking in head room or leg room. this has plenty of both. if you are lookg for a great SUV then this is for you. I think it gets ok gasmilage for it's size. It guzzels gas like all SUVs of this size.

This is a vehicle with all the bells and whistles. Comfortable and fun to drive. The only thing that needs changing is the straps that hold the second row of seats up when they are folded. Without the straps, the seats come tumbling down. The straps do come loose on their own and could cause damage to your cargo. This is a very poor design and I believe Toyota forgot to include a locking mechanism for the second row of seats until the first Sequoia came off the line. Then they realized they needed to do something and this is what they came up with as an afterthought.

It still has the vibration.Wonder if the manufacturer made a lemon? Already made four different visits to the dealerships.Still trying to solve the persistant problem.Anyone has any sugestions? Toyota seems to be ignoring this problem.

We traded a Honda Odyssey for the SR5 and are very pleased. Two cautions for those coming from a minivan. 1. you lose the pass through between the captains chairs to the 3rd row. 2. the Odyssey sipped gas, the Sequoia guzzles it. BUT it rides like a cloud on wheels and feels as safe as a bank vault. Overall, bigger than the van but you lose cargo space in the back - par for the course for 4x4's. Bottomline, if 4 wheel drive is not important to you then stick with a minivan. Otherwise, this is a great car.

Looking through other's ratings I could not believe so many 10 ratings for fun to drive. The Sequoia is a solid reliable car (mine has 65,000 miles) but is like driving a bus. The competition does a much better job of building a car that doesn't make driving almost a numbing event. Then again, we are talking a SUV here, a maybe that is what the public wants.

We just drove our new SR5 on a 1500 mile vacation. The vehicle was great to drive. It was smooth, comfortable and had lots of power when passing. I couldn't wait to get back into the seat and drive it some more. I couldn't be happier with our choice of the Sequoia. I had to watch myself as I wouldn't be paying attention and I find myself doing 90 on the highway and it felt like 50. I really like this car.

I have leased and driven (4) Ford Explorers over the past ten years and figured I would only drive Explorers forever. When my lease was nearing an end last month, I figured I look around at the competition. I drove the Volvo XC90, BWM X5 , VW Touareg, the latest Explorer and the Toyota Sequoia. Hands down, the Sequoia impressed me the most...and continues to every day.

All around nice vehicle! Never thought I'd own a Toyota due to cost but, after extensive comparison shopping do not and know I will never regret spending the extra time and money. I don't like the driver's side seat belt which can be difficult at times to put on because of location (hard to get a hold of). The clock is difficult to see; to low on console and the temperature controls are confusing to operate.

The Sequoia 4WD Limited is an awesome SUV. It drives like a car. Handles like a car and has unbeleivable horsepower. Everytime you look down you are going 90. Cruise control is a good thing. The ONLY complaint is the blind spot in the drivers mirror. Other than that it is just the greatest. We test drove all the SUV's VW toureg, Posrche cayenne, Chevrolet tahoe & suburban. Money was not an issue comfort, horsepower and room were. And the best thing is it IS USA made, USA parts & USA manufactured.

Was reluctant to buy the Sequoia becasue of the high price. Test drove Chevry Tahoe, Ford Expedition, and new Nissan Armada and none of them compared to the Sequioa. The Sequoia has the nicest interior, safety features, and engine of all the ones we tested. The engine while not as powerful as Chevy and Ford is very refined and is same engine used on Toyota Landcrusier, and full size Lexus SUV. The Sequioa also borrows the same transmission and brakes (2003 and newer) as well. This probably explains the silky smooth engine and transmission. Overall we have been very pleased with the SUV.

This is my second Toyota and its the best machine I have ever owned. From the first day it has been a joy and to drive. With no effort I dart in and out of traffic as if it was a car. Taking it through the mountains of Napa Ca you would think the curves would give one reason for caution. Not here. It continues to amazie me how well it handles on the road, in turns, hard curves, quick stops. With a full load of seveal cases of wine it does not change the ride. How their can be any way a rating company can not give this truck a number one or best in class must just what to be kind to the other manufactures.

I've had 4X4's for over 20 years. Ford,Chevy,Jeep,Nissan and Lexus. This is by far the most capable 4X4 I've ever driven. I bought a Sequoia Limited with all the options for just under $50K a little over a month ago. We have already had three pretty good snowstorms and the traction control is flawless. The ride and handling is great. I would recommend this truck to anyone, if you can find one.

I had 3 new Toyota 4Runners since 1988 and the 2004 Sequoia is truly one of the best trucks in the world. I do quite a bit of 4wheeling, and this truck is better than any other truck I have driven, I don't like the new look of the 4Runner so I am glad the Sequoia took it's place.

In 2003 I was driving a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am. Because I have 5 kids this car was just not big enough. When I went to the dealership to test drive this Sequia I fell in love with it instantly. It had everything that I was looking for. I am a sports car person and driving a vehicle like a van is just not me. This Sequia looked great on the outside. It was MY STYLE. It rides so quiet and smooth and drives like a dream. The kids are very fond of the entertainment system for them and it comes in handy on those long road trips we take. I've had my Sequia since August of 2003 and have not found anything that I do not like about it.

Love the Truck, It's like driving your living room sofa. The truck has been in the shop for a week with a rear axle problem, The service dept has been good so far and they provided a decent loaner, so I am hoping for the best. I didn't like the sales tactics by the dealership, be aware and get your trade in #'s in writing before you make the deal.

For three years I've been eyeing other SUV's passing by. The one that always caught my eye was the Sequoia. Now that it was time to buy, the Sequoia was the first SUV I wanted to look at. I researched my Consumer Reports magazine and it was HIGHLY rated. I looked at all the others, but they didn't compare. I knew that QUALITY,RELIABLITY & SAFETY were in a Toyota. The exterior is beautiful and the interior is even better. I chose the Limited because all the optional features on the SR5 were standard on the Limited. I am very, very happy!

After driving a Sienna mini-van for 5 years with out a single issue, I'm sold on Toyota so it was a no-brainer what I wanted when I decided to buy an SUV. We drove other SUV's and almost bought a Pilot, no other compares to the look, feel and overall reliability of this vehicle. Lot's of room, even in the 3rd row. Smooth, quiet ride and features I haven't even discovered yet. This is our third toyota and we've never been disappointed..

This is my very first "foreign" vehicle and I truly love it! The ride is out of this world, the ride is what sold us. We test drove many mid-sized SUV's and for just a little more money than the higher end mid-sized SUV, you get alot more room and alot nicer ride in the Sequoia. We've had it less than a year and we are very happy with it!

We've had the Sequoia for almost 6 months and this is the best vehicle that I have ever driven. I've driven BMW, Mercedes, you name it and the Sequoia beats it. I test drove the competition and there is no comparison to the power, agility, handling, and quality of the Sequoia. I don't know why, but the competition have horsepower ratings well in excess of the Sequoia...all you have to do is step on the accelerator and the numbers mean nothing...this thing has POWER! The best thing is Toyota quality. I've owned Toyotas for years and they just don't have problems. period!

Overall I enjoy the vehicle, but at that price I should love it. The pros are it's roominess,car-like ride and easy handling. But it's access to the third seat is very challenging, the cabin should be quieter and a cargo cover cost $200. But it does have a nice presence amongst other cars on the road.

Traded my Chevy Suburban for this Sequoia. The only thing I miss is the power of the 5.7L engine. Other than that, this is superior machine. Fit and finish is outstanding. I have not experienced any of the problems I read about prior to my purchase. (i.e. the sulphur smell, brake problems etc) The brakes on this vehicle are far superior to my '95 Suburban. Vehicle feels very spacious inside and easily fits 8 people. Storage space behind the 3rd row seat is adequate.

I wouldn't mind if Toyota turn up the HP/Torque catagory a little pit otherwise the car looks like a classic warrior with the comfort and executive ride. Excellent pickup and enjoyable to ride or drive around in. The third seat(s) are so easy to fold up or remove. As an added benefit the price to service the vehicle is far below that of a Volvo. This is our second Sequoia we've owned! I love driving it. It's just the right size. I traded my first Sequoia for a GMC Denali XL, I didn't keep it long and I traded back for another Sequoia Limited. The Sequoia 's back door is the same size as the front door therfore making it alot easier to get a car seat in and out of the vehicle! That was a big factor in purchasing this car. I love the roomy interior also. The Sequoia tows really well also, we have two jet skis and a boat, we have no problem at all! Over all I love my car!

The vehicle has excellent handling, particularly for a SUV. It comes with a list of options, such as heated seats, front and rear temperature control, a 6- disk CD changer, and even front and rear audio controls. Its the perfect vehicle for a family to its size (room for 8 passengers) but also for the single guy who wants a large vehicle with style. It looks rather large from the outside but amazingly doesn't drive like it. I am an avid Toyota fan and have bought many of them. This vehicle doesn't disappoint.

Great Car!

This car is great and fun to drive! The only problem I have expereinced since purchasing this car is the poor quality in its brakes. I had to replace the first pair of brake pads at only 11,000 miles (less then a year of owning this car). The brake pads were also on a two week back order when my car needed the brakes replaced. Which means to me that Toyota needs to work a little bit harder on resolving their brakes issue. Obviously if there is such a huge demand on their brake pads, something is wrong????

Amazing

I bought my Sequoias right off the delivery truck. it had .02 miles on it when i got behind the wheel. I love it. I must admit, however, that I have had some big trouble with it. At 12,000 miles the brakes needed to be replaced and the compressor for the a/c quit. Again at 19,000 the brakes were bad. The service writer told me that this was a design flaw, and replaced my brakes with Land Cruiser brakes. They tell me that the sequopia was jsut to heavy for the original braking equipment. All issues have been adressed and I couldnt be happier. Heck, I get 14.8 MPG around town!!!

I love my Sequoia! The three rows are fantastic, especially since they all fold down for when I have to put "stuff" in it. My two boys are in football, so we have all the practice equipment and everything. We bought the car a day before we drove to Florida, and had a great! experience. I tell everyone I know how much I love it. I will never buy any car other than a Toyota.

Unbelievable beauty, comfort, safety, reliability, and CLASS!! No problems in over two years........(this site would not allow me to put in the actual year, which is a 2001..Arrows don't work for year of car) Always prefer to take this vehicle over my husband's Mercedes, which is newer. I have the niftiest car and would not EVER drive anything but a Toyota. My Forerunner was outstanding and this is even better, if possible...........Thanks Toyota!!!!!

Bad Rear end!

I have had my Sequoia in the shop 4 times and only have 2,000 miles on it. I've had a new set of tires and rims put on, but there is still something wrong with the rear end. The dealership says it rides like it should and if that is the case, then I'm very disappointed. Drive you vehicle out on the highway and put at least 25 miles on it, before you decide to keep that one.

What a great truck!!!

I purchased this truck in the last week and I am extremely impressed. Although it's a big truck, it doesn't feel that big when driven. The ride is unbelievable. It has a firm ride (unlike large vehicles) but handles bumps and corners extremely good as well. Acceleration is very good even though the motor has a 240 HP rating. It feels very strong. This is the 4th Toyota I have owned (second truck, 1st was a 4-Runner) and at this point I would never buy from any other manufacturer. Their build quality is impecable, their prices reasonable, their resale great, and they last forever. What more could an owner want!

Awesome vehicle. Lousy gas mileage but a sacrifice for comfort and power. Great pick-up and braking. Superb sound system. Great ride w/ firm suspension. 10 speakers and 10 cup holders. PARTY!! $42,000 and Toyota still makes you buy the floor mats.

Big, roomy and quiet. More space than my wife's minivan. Very well built. You have the feeling that you are well protected in the event of a crash.
