Wrote a review about my Dominos' store's Prius'! Updating it! We now have 3 Prius's! Two '04's and an '05! The one I wrote about before is an '04 which now has 220k mi on it and still no problems! It never breaks down or gives up! And it gets driven HARD by many different drivers! The battery still holds charge pretty well, not quite as well as our other Prius's but still returns over 50mpg if driven frugally. Our other 04' Prius has 160k mi and runs great! Same with our '05 that has 120k mi! These vehicles are workhorses! You want a reliable, affordable commuter or work car! This is the one! If it can deliver pizzas, it can do anything!

I work for my local Domino's Pizza store. It's one of the bigger stores in my area, covering a HUGE area for delivery. My boss has two Prius's as company cars that us drivers get to drive (as well as other vehicles as well). The main Prius we use has been at this store for 3 years now. It's an 04 and was bought with 90K miles on it. It is used all day long every from opening to closing of the store. It now has 186K miles after 3 years of service. There has no been one single problem with it! It is always taken to the dealership for regular maintenance when it is needed. We drivers average about 44-48 MPG when we can. During dinner rush's we can pull around 38 MPG! These things are troopers!

Just bought @104K for $8K, like new condition. Not a comfortable car like my 98' Lexus LS400, but I understand the compromise in order to achieve optimal MPG: stiff suspension, low roll resistance tire. My goal is to save money with 50+ MPG for 130 mile daily commute. I can't justify buying a new one for 3.5X price to save ONLY $1800/year on gas at $3/gallon. Performance better than I expected. Technology is truly impressive I am confident to drive it for another 5 years to 300K miles, if the battery OK. Heard many Prius at 200K miles, battery still fine.

After more than six months, the only problem I've had with my 2004 Prius is a dead battery. I've averaged about 52 mpg when I wasn't deliberately driving economically. As a former leadfoot Corvette owner, it took me a while to learn to get 70 mpg or even 99+ mpg, but I did accomplish this using techniques I read in the manual and online. With a car full of husky adults, patience is required for economical acceleration and hill-climbing. The typical American driver will push the pedal for more power, but the electric will kick in and save on gas. I recommend cruise control and some patience to get 50-60 mpg on that long hilly highway trip.

I owned this car for three and a half years, used about 60,000 miles and it was awesome until it rained, snowed or was windy at all. I felt completely unsafe, and scared during any storm or driving on snow. The seats were decently sized, but hard as rocks. The gas mileage was the reason I bought it, and that stayed true to what was said about how great it was. I ended up buying a Honda SUV because this car scared me so much to drive even on a sunny day with lots of wind. I now feel so much safer, and would never purchase another small Toyota again.

117000 miles on my Prius

I have an 04 Prius with 117000 miles on it. In the earlier years I had all the problems with the car stalling or not wanting to keep going, but Toyota finally resolved those issues with software upgrades and recalls. For the past 3 years I've had no problems. At 112000 miles I needed a new water pump, but otherwise I've had no mechanical issues. The battery is fine. I drive exclusively on local roads, 40 miles each way to work, and get 48 mpg during the winter (New Hampshire winters are brutal) and am now getting 57 mpg in the Springtime. The car gets significantly less gas mileage if I only use it for short hops (5-10 miles) or if I drive on the highway.

We bought this car to be green, save on gas and replace the gas guzzling Buicks we had. We had a friend who had a 2001 and let us drive it. We were sold. Our 2004 Prius is the best car we have ever owned. The only thing that went wrong was the fairly expensive starter battery which was replaced by the dealer for $212. Not bad for a four-year automotive parts and repair bill!

Just bought a used Prius w/ 116,000 miles on it + got a pretty good deal. Took it to work all w/e in heavy 2-day Boston blizzard as I am a nurse + can't call in sick or take snow days. It was surprisingly great in the snow + exceeded all expectations. It is no snowplow but got me through it. The car is a wonder of technology + if @ 1st a little overwhelming it grows on you quick!

I have logged 140K miles in five years, averaging 45+ mpg. The greatest feature of the car is its rock solid reliability - it still has the original brakes. I like the car so much I just purchased a new 2009. This car may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it fits my lifestyle - plenty of room for my family of 4 and the hatchback makes it useful for those occasional runs to Lowe's or Home Depot. It is a well engineered vehicle that has retained it rock solid feel over the many miles that it has traveled.

I get giddy when people ask about this amazing hybrid car. It simply delivers like no other car. It does all you ask of it and leaves you with smiles & pride in your selection of a new car. Now with 95K miles after over 5 yrs it stands all the tests that other cars cannot. Now, with only a replacement of an hd lt bulb, I look back and realize what dependability is all about. I've saved over $10,000 in gas compared to my SUV I once had. What's even better is that my car looks just like an '09 Prius. This is the car of the future today.

I just crossed 130K with my Prius and it will be five years old next month. I had done nothing but buy tires and change oil for first 100K. Then I had a rear wheel bearing and now a recent inverter fluid pump. No big deal for 130K. I almost always average over 50 MPG, for life of vehicle probably 51. 53/54 in spring and fall and 50 in winter. I've had maybe 10 tanks less than 50 almost all in the winter and they were usually 48-49. I am not an aggressive driver and I keep it under 70. I commute 30 miles each way each day with about 16 miles on the highway avg about 67. I can beat cruise control on the Prius on long trips by using the hills to my advantage. Over 70 big loss of MPG.

This car is still running strong after 112 thousand miles. I've driven it across country, to high altitudes, across tough terrain. Other than basic maintenance and one small recall (and a bit of rear end work after an encounter with a sleepy driver), the only thing we needed to have done was an adjustment to the fuel gauge, which read empty prematurely. I love this car, and plan to order another one within the year!

This car is overall well-built. I am not as impressed as I thought I would be. For around $30,000, this car does no better in fuel efficiency than my old 1995 Honda Civic VX hatchback. I once got 65 MPG on a trip in my Honda. The Prius, with all its technology and synergy drive, can't beat the fuel efficiency of a 13 year-old, non-hybrid, 5-passenger hatchback. Above that, the battery packs on this might soon run out. I'm thinking I'll sell this and look for my old Honda.

The car is a technological marvel in a very practical package. Bought new, it's been very reliable for 60,000 miles. It's no sports car, but is faster than it seems because the CVT is so smooth that your speed builds without your noticing it. Lifetime avg. 49.9 mpg driving smoothly, 53 mpg at steady 65, with or without the AC running. Not quite so comfortable or quiet as our old Camry, but still very good. Build quality is very impressive. No problems to date. Definitely the best car I've ever owned. Love the hatchback layout. There's lots of room, but the rear seat is too narrow for three across unless one is a child.

My wife and I purchased this vehicle in the Spring of this year and it is the best vehicle purchase we have ever made. The car gets fantastic gas mileage, fits 4 easily (5 in a pinch), and really has a devoted fan club following. I am 6' 3" tall and I fit in the front and back seats without any problems. I thought we might find the car lacking in power, but even in that area I was pleasantly surprised. All in all this car is a wonderfully driving and exceptionally good value given how well it holds its resale value and the great gas mileage. I find myself trying to squeeze every MPG I can out of the tank. Truthfully you will love this car and will wonder why you waited so long to get one!

I LOVE MY PRIUS. Boy do I love her. Best decision I ever made for a car couple years ago. To emulate Charlton Heston, "You will only get my Prius out of my cold dead hands." She just turned 115,000 miles and the only things I've changed to date is the oil and I think they change the air filter as part of the regular service, but I'm not sure. Oh! and they rotated the tires. Everything else, and I mean everything, including the original brakes, (which must be different from normal brakes) is still on the car. My 4x4 Previa is a champ, and I thought my Previa was the best made vehicle on the plantet. The Prius is giving me reason to reconsider that conclusion. If you don't have one, buy one.

This is the most technologically advanced car mass produced today. We love our car. We average anywhere from 45 to 80 miles per gallon depending on how we drive the car. Very reliable, means we've never had a problem with our car. I give this car the highest rating but I'm still waiting for Toyota, to release the Prius that gets 100 miles per gallon. I want more miles per gallon Toyota. When?

My Prius just turned 100,000 miles. With little over four years of ownership, the only thing I had to do periodically was change the oil and replace a few air filters. All mechanical systems have held up - I still have the original brake pads, muffler, and everything else. My Prius has been extremely cheap to keep and I highly recommend it as a primary family car. As far as tires go, I'm still on the second set!!

I'm an old pro with my '04 Prius and think it worth mentioning that, with 4 plus yrs under my belt, I can best serve others by telling an experienced well learned opinion of this phenomenal hybrid car. Mileage is excellent ranging from a low of 42-44 wintertime and 47-53 summers. Flexibility with fold-down seats is a blessing. Roominess front & back. Very good quality & dependability. Toyota has achieved a mark of excellence that I never b/4 have seen. I literally am amazed by the tranny, brakes that seem to last forever. Overall look of the Prius: beautiful (must be or Toyota would have revamped it by '08 and yet it still looks the same as my '04.)

Economical, practical, fun and, of course, reliable. Mine is the 2004 and the first of the second generation Prius. Had one computer recall and a tail-light issue done as a compliment of the Toyota dealership. I did not have any problem with either recall notice. In my opinion, this Prius is excellent, except, for two areas. It needs more seat support. It could use more thigh and lumbar adjustment(s). The one other area would be a light shield or visor type design over the center monitor.

My Prius had been owned by the city of Chattanooga. It had minor damage to the front. I bought it with @12k. on it. I love the car and for me to say that is a real tribute to both the build quality, comfort and economy. I get pretty consistently @44 mpg around town and the highest I have ever gotten is 51. The car would be better served, however, with other radio options. Can't adapt an off the shelf radio because the radio in the car is integral to the function of the display. With gas prices approaching $3.50 this car is wise choice and I am doing something for the environment that I respect.

Enjoy driving it, and it is comfortable. AZ freeway speeds are 75 MPH. Car has no problems keeping up with the traffic (I seldom go over 80, but have reached 90 and above, with no problems). I average between 40 and 45 MPG.

I purchased a pre-owned Prius. It now has over 48,000 miles. My primary complaint is the exterior door material. If you barely hit the door, it leaves a mark or a ding (my car is white). Also, the interior is extremely difficult to keep clean. The armrests are very worn. The fabric seems cheap. Other than that, the car is great. I always average over 50 MPG. I routinely drive the car on the highway at speeds greater than 70 MPH and I still get great gas mileage. I traded in my Jeep (14 MPG) for the Prius and I'm so glad I did. The car is quiet, smooth and a joy to drive.

My 2004 Prius is the best car I have ever owned. I have save so much money on gas it's ridiculous. The car handles pretty good untill you lose a bit of traction. However I wouldn't have any other car.

I have over 148,000 miles now and haven't had a single problem with the car except the MFD which was covered under warranty. The front brakes pads look extremely healthy still although the back brake shoes will likely need replacement within the next 30,000 miles. Easily, very easily, the best car I have ever owned; I have never been happier with any car and I have had more than 20 in my 40 years of driving!

Can't understand people complaining about mileage, I've NEVER gotten under 48 mpg and average 52-60! Roomy, even rear seat is comfortable. It's not as comfortable as my Lexus, but then there's a big difference in $$$. No complaints at all about handling: solid, takes hills well, very peppy, have to watch speed on interstate or I'll be doing 80 without realizing it. I laugh all the way to the gas pump these days!

My wife and I really love our 2004 Prius. Toyota Prius is the best car I have ever owned, air conditioning runs on the battery which in turn is charged by driving and braking. Mileage has been consistent at 50 mpg. Plenty of room and storage. Excellent quality. Excellent handling. The quality of these cars is impressive by itself, but the clean emissions make it outstanding. Great car! Highly recommended. Nothing bad to say. Good performance, lots of torque going up hills

This car is more powerful than you might think. I got two speeding tickets my first couple of months owning this car because you can be going 90 miles an hour and it is as quiet and stable as when you are going 35. Great visibility in it- no blind spots and the interior is very functional. Love my Prius!!

Outstanding vehicle. Comfort of a larger class sedan, fuel ecomony better than a sub-compact. I've had this vehicle for over two years, have driven it all over the United Kingdom and Colorado. I am very happy with its performance. Average fuel economy is about 45-50 mpg, nowhere near the advertised 65 mpg, but still very respectable.

My first Prius was the 2002 compact model. When I saw the larger 2004 model, I traded. I've driven it on long trips over mountains and averaged 51.7 mpg with a mixture of 70 mph Interstates and 45 to 55 mph 2-lane roads in the Mountains of KY, WV and VA. It has lots of room and is most comfortable and fun to drive.

Do you live in New Jersey? Well I do. Do you know it's the most densely populated state? Well, I do. There are cars everywhere because we lack the mass transportation network needed and we want the freedom of the automobile offers us. Therefore there are frequent traffic jams. When I'm driving my 2004 Toyota Prius I get better mileage when the speeds are slower. So at least if I'm not saving time I'm at least saving money. The Prius has suprising pickup for highway merging since both the elctical system and the combustion system kick in. I got my Prius, the everything-but-the-kitchen-sink version, in late October 2003. It now has 50K miles on it and has been absolutely flawless; the only time it's been in the shop is for routine service every 5K miles, and for the rare-but-proactive service bulletins that are inevitable with a car this technologically sophisticated. Again, I've never had so much as a hiccup in the three years of ownership, and Toyota clearly takes pride in its build quality. I drive a lot of urban freeways and surface streets with lots of stops, and have averaged 47mpg over the life of the car (with a semi-lead foot). There is no doubt in my mind the next car I get will be another Prius.

I have owned many cars in my lifetime from Chevrolet to Jaguar. The Toyota Prius is the best car I have ever owned. With over 55,000 miles it has performed flawlessly with absolutely no probloms. We recently drove it from the East Coast to Lyons Colorado. We averaged 53 mpg at 70 miles per hour with the A/C on. I recently purchased another new one for my wife. Both cars rate a 10 in all categories.

We purchased our Prius with 7,000 miles on it (original owner left country). It has performed exceptionally well except for the electronic issues that were repaired by removing and replacing the computer screen (Toyota covered it). Only other issue is Tires. The vehicle is heavier than most and you need to ensure that you purchase tires recommended by the owners guide to ensure that you do not risk the tire "rolling" onto the sidewall in a higher speed turn or situation where you must "dodge" an obstacle at higher speeds.

The Prius is really fun to drive even though it is not greatly overpowered. The power steering & brakes are are quite sensitive because they are electric. The car is easy to park & handle, holds the road well & the HID headlights are really appreciated. Although there are no power seats, I am sitting higher than other cars so as to make my lower back more comfortable. However, I have convinced no one to buy the car even with the great MPG I get.

Aside from the great fuel economy my wife and I really like our 2004 Salsa Red Prius. As we have learned to take advantage of the hybrid technology the average mileage has climbed from 45mpg to about 50 now with a lifetime average of about 48. It really does get 51mpg at 65mph on the freeway. The surround sound audio system is great. We got the 6-CD player system. My wife changed her cell phone to one with built in Blue Tooth technology so it could work with the Prius' built in system. Our family is tall. I'm 6'2. My wife is 6'. And our 4 boys range from 6'3 to 6'5. All can sit in the back seat and have plenty of knee room with the front seats in normal position.

Our Prius averages 44 mpg, not the 51-60 EPA mpg in the ads. It has been in the shop three times now on recalls. The GPS-controls and display software needs some upgrades to be competitive with other makes. BUT, despite these short comings, my next new car will likely be a Prius. It is a work horse, I can pile more stuff in it than in my Avalon, which is a much bigger car on the outside. Interior head and leg room is also better than my Avalon. Prius style is true 21st century; not some makeover of a 20th century design. It has great voice interaction capability and blue tooth connectivity. And despite being hard to navigate around, the GPS does an excellent tracking job.

Having lived in Los Angeles for 10 years before heading to NYC, I was familiar with the Prius before many people out on the east coast. I got one of the first 2004 models in New England in 2003 and I was actually surprised by the power, handling and roominess of this car. I bought it to do my part for the environment and I was fully prepared to make sacrifices in those areas. I never had too. The technology was bleeding edge as well with voice commands and BlueTooth (only car that had it at the time). I owned a Mercedes, BMW, Land Rover, Porsche and Jaguar in the decade before I bought this and this is my favorite out of all of them.

I love this car. When I am slowed down in a traffic jam my car switches to the electric battery and gas mileage is terrific. Makes a traffic jam not so irritating. Furthermore, I know that my car is not adding to the fumes everyone is sitting in as we inch along. I have taken long 14 hour trips and am quite comfortable while averaging over 52 mpg. I find that noting the continuous mpg analysis on the screen on the dashboard has helped me to learn good gas-saving driving habits. It is like a computer game. My big dog rides comfortably in the hatchback area with the seat down and a quilt spread out. My grown children love to drive my Prius when I come to visit.

We traded a 1995 Cadillac Seville, SLS, for our Prius, and have never been sorry a minute. The interior is exceptionally well designed, and the electronics are superb. Good air conditioning, easy to read instruments, good storage space, and comfortable for 4 adults. We've been pleasantly surprised on its long trip capabilities, having taken it on two trips of over 2,000 miles. Our friends say, "That's what we all should be driving".

They say those who buy a Prius are either techies, greenies, or cheapies. I say the Prius uses tech to be green and cheap. Driving one begs the question: if Detroit can make a car with a power moonroof and heated headlight washer fluid, why can't they make a car that shuts off at a stoplight? The answer is they can, but apparently don't want to. Test drive this car like I did and you will buy it.

This is my second Prius and I have totally satisfied with both vehicles. No problems of any sort (except one flat tire which was the fault of a big bolt left in the road). Most of my driving in this car is local, less than 4 or 5 miles per trip. However, I drove to Chicago (avg 56 mpg) and to New Jersey (avg 54 mpg). There have been no shakes, no noises, no problems. The quality of these cars is impressive by itself, but the clean emissions make it outstanding.

The Prius is a well thought out vehicle which has everything in the most convenient place, plenty of room in front and back and performs wonderfully. I average 50mpg except in winter when it drops to 48mpg with heater use. I would not hesitate to buy the same model again when this one gets long in the tooth. Maybe by then they'll get 100mpg!

Overall, I love my Prius. I do a lot of driving and have only good things to say about it. I don't get 60 mpg but, I'm a fast driver and you'd have to consistently go 30 mph to get the 60 rating in my particular car. I average 45-50. I only have to gas up twice a month!! When I first got it 2 yrs. ago people would point and stare when I drove it. I was the first one in town to have one, so it was an oddity. Now, I get the thumbs-up and I'm seeing more and more of them around town. I can't say enough good things about it.

Great car! Highly recommended. Nothing bad to say. Good performance, lots of torque going up hills, reasonably quiet ride. Gets between 47 and 52 MPG depending on speed. Cruise control works good. Best gas mileage about 67 vs 70 MPH. Replaced original, never rotated, tires at 40K miles because of wear on outside edges. Replaced with Hankook Tires. Would like more comfortable drivers seat. Can't seem to get leg reach to accelerator and arm reach to steering wheel just right.

This is my second Prius. I had the smaller 2002 model and traded up to the mid-size. On a 3,000 mile trip last summer from Harrodsburg, KY to Tazewell, VA, Geneva, IL, Fond du Lac and Spooner, WI, Story City and Amana, IA and back to KY we averaged 51 mpg. My wife is finally getting used to the quietness. It's fun to drive and has great cargo capacity. Yes, I'm a happy senior citizen. 84 this year.

I've driven all types of vehicles and none can compare to my prius! Not only does it make me feel good that i am doing my thing for the enviornment, the car is fun to drive! Really nice pick up, smooth, quiet ride and toyota reliability! the optional DVD navigation is the best navigation on the market. Easy to use and quite direct! I am averaging 50+ mpg with over 25k. With today's gas prices (3 dollars plus) I can still fill up for under 30 dollars and get close to 400 miles a tank (sometimes more)!! Do yourself a favor, get yourself a prius!! You'll be glad that you did.

My 2004 Prius was bought in Oct 03 because of the claim of outstanding mileage, the federal tax incentive and I was driving a large crewcab pickup. Mileage range from the high 30's in the coldest (below -0 F.) months to the low 50s once the weather gets warmer in the spring. It gets the best mileage in city driving about 40 mph. It is fairly comfortable in day to day commuting. The hatchback feature is very useful with the extra room with the rear seats folded down. The biggest gripes are the light beige cloth upholstery that show dirt easy and the couple of times that it left me stranded with computer glitches once at dealer when they were doing a recall and once 300 miles away.

We traded in a 2001 Prius for the 2004 on the premise of better mileage. Both vehicles average 40-42 around town and 50-52 on long freeway drives. Both vehicles have had computer problems which did not affect the operation of the vehicle but merely an annoyance. The Hatchback design of the 2004 is a great improvement but the split rear window creates a rear vision problem. Having an battery upgrade to increase fuel mileage sounds promising, if the conversion price is reasonable.

I absolutely love my prius. I will never buy anything but a hybrid again. I cannot even think of anything that I do not like about my car. A sunroof would be nice but then you might lose the aerodynamics. And who wants to give up the miles per gallon you get for a sunroof. Not me. Everyone that ridess with me loves it too. I have the navigation system and it is great when I travel. This is a great car.

Driving habbits: Mostly country driving, 45-55 MPH. Location: Wisconsin. Summer: 49-53 MPG Winter: 40-45 MPG Cold weather, and short trips do reduce milage. Driving at speeds greater than 65 mph also will reduce milage. Acceleration is ok. Accelrates faster than some mini vans, and SUV's. 0 to 60 in 10 seconds.

I traded in a Ford Explorer for my Prius. This was one of the most intelligent, consumer moves I've ever made in my 49 years. I will buy another one as soon as I pay this one off. I live on a 1/2 mile, rugged, dirt road in Northern California and with a Prius, I realized, I no longer need 4-wheel drive or the high-rise SUV profile. The Prius handles the dirt and snow just fine. We have traveled for four hours with five people in the Prius and we all agreed, comfort was spectacular! The navigation system is an added bonus. I will never buy another car without it. We average 43 mpg around town, but have gotten up to 56 mpg on long trips to Mt. Shast and Lake Tahoe. Excellent car!

After nearly 2 years of ownership, I've had lots of time to take notes. One test drive changed me. Not one problem so far. My average MPG is in the mid- 40's. Cold temps put a put a huge dent in MPG as motor runs to keep cab warm. Drving in cross winds is difficult as the car seems to get pushed all over the place. I experienced the green bar of light on the windshield as well from the speedometer, but only need to turn down the brightness of dashboard lights to eliminate it at night. The car is quite, peppy, very responsive to acceleration and turning. I can't say enough good things about it. Round trip to Maine (from MN)cost $185 at $3/gal! Resale value is incredible!

Lifetime average (calculated by keeping detailed records) is just above 54mpg and has improved over the first year's use. Only change we've done is to use synthetic oil. We have not babied this vehicle and drive it on short errands as well as long trips, cold weather and hot.

Learning to Slow Down

The car has never failed to please - except with the HVAC system and interface - which is clearly not up to the challenges of upstate NY in the winter. Stock tires leave a lot to be deired in traction and handling -get four snow tires from tirerack. Actual mileage has averaged out to 41.8 MPG. Trust me - your driving habits will change to accomodate the car. It appreciates speeds of =< 62 and is happiest with a commute lasting at least 20 minutes, particularly when the weather is colder than 40. It takes that long for the battery stack to come up to temp and effectively contribute to moving the car.

I was one of first in my area to purchase this model. For the first 18 months it was a great car, although the display needed to be replaced. Then it broke down on me (computer failure) at 18 months (15,000 miles). The computer was replaced, and immediately my MPG went down significantly. My 54 MPG highway went to 44 MPG highway for the same route (same seasonal temperature). My local MPG went from 41 to 35 MPG. Dealer thought the software recall/upgrade would help but it has not. Others seem to report this problem. Dealer has not offered any solutions. Aside from these problems, I have enjoyed this car, but I want my great MPG back!

I love cars. I commute about 70 minutes to work, 80/20 highway/traffic. Regardless of what car I drove, my commute was getting to be a dull grind compounded by a growing guilt about the gas and pollution involved. Since getting my 2004 Prius 2 Years ago, all that changed. Now I enjoy my commute. Every trip is like a game. Every trip is an inspiration to my sense of innovation and thoughtful execution (I am a professional Mechanical Engineer and design industrial machinery). Sure my mileage does not match EPA, no cars do. The point is that, for me, this car is perfect: reliable, comfortable, roomy, safe, cost effective, fun, progressive, inspiring and, oh yes and easier on the environment.

I have had my Prius for almost a year and can't say enough great things about it. My only problem is that my husband, a salesman who is on the road almost all day, has decided that he should be the one to drive the Prius. Amazing since he has always been the type of male who's identity is wrapped up in the kind of car he drives. Now he gets off on all the money he is saving. It is substantial since his last car got between 11 and 13 mpg. In the summer, we consistently get between 55-60 mpg, which drops down to 50-52 mpg in the winter. It is fun to drive and has plenty of pep. Best car we have ever owned.

In practice Car provides about 400 miles per galon (considering combined rural and highway streets). Even though is not a family car, it provide enough space for a family of five. Also the fact that back seats cand bend provides aditional space when you need it. Music sound system is also good quality.

It's fast, it's sturdy and it's a joy to drive. I've had zero, nada problems in the first forty thousand miles. It has handled the highest passes in Colorado and scoots in and out of traffic in Louisiana with ease. One small issue is the advertised gas mileage. The best I ever achieved was 52.5 but mostly average about forty- five. Still not too bad but no where near the sixty MPG promised. I'm 6'5", weigh 300 pounds and have no difficulty with it's roominess. Plenty of head room and seats four comfortably. My big Lincoln sits garage, where it shall remain until gas prices become reasonable again.

I love everything about it, and only wish I had gotten the fully loaded package with GPS and BlueTooth. I drive about 90% highway (70-80 mph), 10% city. Initially, I was getting only about 43-45 mpg, but the past year has taught me to improve my driving habits in several ways -- most notably, not racing to take advantage of a passing slot. (My driving habits are still a bit overenthusiastic, but less so than before, especially after my insurance company decided that three speeding tickets in three years was a Bad Thing.) The interior is comfortable even for a big guy like me (6'2", 215 lb, long legs). Plenty of comfort and sufficient oomph even when transporting four ample adults.

The only frustrating part of owning the Prius is the MPG that one expects vs. the real world. When I bought the car in 9/2004, my average mileage was 45 City - 52 highway. Then the car stalled and I needed a new software update. Since then, it seems that the car runs more on Gas than electric. Average now 38-41 City, 42-45 HIGHWAY. WITH ALL THIS NEGATIVE SAID... the car is GREAT, and with the prices of GAS I am a HAPPY buyer. One must also consider that the Federal $2,000 deduction is still in effect, AND check with your local state. Here in Connecticut there was NO sales tax on the car, saving me another $1500. CONSIDER THESE SAVINGS ALSO. Overall I give the car a 9+!

My friends laughed at me when I said I was parking my Mercedes Benz S600 and buying a Toyota Prius. Now I'm laughing at them as fuel prices soar and commuting here in Northern California has become a major part of my day and expenses. I commute almost 200 miles per day and was spending almost $150 per week filling up my 12 cylinder car. The beauty of the Prius is that it's very comfortable (consider the fact that I'm 6'0 tall and weigh 250 lbs). The car handles very well and has plenty of power to climb steep hills. I also save enough money on gas to pay the car note and insurance. Essentially this car pays for itself. Big Daddy says "Don't knock it til you try it".

Bought a used Prius 3 months ago - drive it 60mi R/T to and from work each day, now use it for all errands on the weekend. Extremely pleased with it except for heavy snow - we are on a hill and when snowed in have to take the Nissan SUV to work instead. Average MPG is around 60, mostly secondary roads. No issues at all in terms of reliability, etc.

The Prius was a dream to drive from the time I bought it 3/04 until 9/04 when a dead cell in the aux battery killed the main computer. I was getting 48mpg city/53 mpg freeway. Now with the new computer, the motor runs more and I can rarely get about 10mph before the motor kicks in. Fuel economy has dropped. I now get 42mpg city/49mpg freeway. I have asked a number of times for Toyota to fix it and they say the computer is not putting out any error codes. Its frustrating. One other note. If the aux battery fails, you can't put the car in neutral, it has to be dragged up on the wrecker.

This is my third Toyota vehicle, and second Prius. While there is more interior space and extra standard features, it is more difficult to see out of the windows than with my previous Toyota vehicles and the rear seats are too low for most of my tall friends to be comfortable without their heads touching the roof. Perhaps the most disappointing, however, is the grossly inflated gas mileage. I would never have purchased this car if I had known it got the same mileage as my previous Prius and only a little better than the Echo I had before that. Shame on Toyota for their deceitful gas mileage claims!

I have thoroughly enjoyed my Prius. I drive about 50 miles total every day to and from work with combined city/highway miles. Currently (Apr. 2005) I am getting 55.4 mpg and loving it. It makes me feel good that my car releases so few pollutants and is still a VERY practical car to own and drive. I would recommend anyone who is looking for a new car to at least consider a Toyota Prius. It's roomy inside, stylish outside and a whole lot of fun to drive! It's dependability is "Totally Toyota".

We just got a 2005 Prius to go along with our 2000 Honda Insight, which has given us 121,000 trouble-free miles so far. We got Option Package #6, which is EVERYTHING. It's a true luxo-cruiser, as quiet and smooth as any Lincoln Town Car and with enough techno-spiffy gadgetry to keep anyone amused, including a nifty GPS and a JBL in-dash 6 CD changer, radio and cassette player that sounds better than the stereo in anyone's home. The climate control is silent, unobtrusive and draft-free, keeping the interior the temperature you set and all the glass clear totally unnoticeably. I have had no trouble keeping its mileage above 50 city and 60 highway so far without any sacrifices whatsoever!

The Prius has better pickup than advertised. You can do a lot to manage the fuel economy by coasting and thru controlled acceleration. It is not unusual to get 60+mpg for extended periods if you keep a steady cruise speed of 35 - 40 on country roads. Highway conditions (traffic) can produce 75+ mpg!! Kind of a reward for being stuck on jammed roads! The quality of the construction is excellent...but the tan interior fabric is too light to keep clean. The nav system does a terrible job of picking the best routes. I have heard there is a patch for that.

I do believe it's the best car i've driven. Our other cars had lots of flaws. I get extremely good gas mileage, which takes work and a 15k mile break in period. Currently i'm achieveing over EPA rating of 60mpg with highway driving about 75% of the time. I recommend this car to everyone. I've seen people who drive BMW's, Mercedes, and just about every luxury car out there switch to the prius and really enjoy it. Savings in maintenance is going to be incredible. Oil changes every 5k. Gas engine will last 500k. Battery last more than 300k so far. (tested in real life) Gas savings... etc. No real transmission. it will last the life of the engine.

The Prius has had 2 recalls so far, the CD player was replaced once already and the new one doesn't play most CDs, I have a bad leak behind the dash and my floors got soaked and now with the cold weather my floor is frozen. I'm waiting for my appointment to bring the car in. Ive had the car 8 months and its been in the shop 3 times already and its going again. My fuel mileage isnt the same since the computer recall, and no one can tell me why. The best city mileage Im getting is bet. 28 and 35 MPGs. I cant wait to sell this thing.

Not only will the Prius provide a roomy, comfortable ride, the interior design is fantastic. MPG is averaging 54.5 mixed city and hwy. Having controls on the steering wheel makes climate and sound adjustments effortless. The touchscreen monitor is unbelievable even without the Navigation system and actually helps in obtaining the best MPG by showing you instantly how the engine and the battery pack are working. This car is no longer a small tin can. It has more side to side room than my Prerunner, more rear seat room than our civic, plus the rear storage area and fold down seats for baggage. It`s the most fun car I`ve owned since I had an old Triumph. A technological masterpiece!

Extrordinary 05' Prius

I've owned 40 cars over the last 45 years and my last one, an FX35, was by far the finest of all until gas prices went up and my annual mileage jumped to near 40,000 miles. Bye went the great Infiniti in came the Prius. This car makes the Infiniti seem like ancient technology. Can't figure out how anybody would prefer to buy anything else. The wait was well worth it. I was perfectly happy averaging between 40 and 45 miles per gallon over the first two months and then the rains came to Southern California. Since the Prius is not exactly a tank I naturally slowed down, avoided fast starts and generally kept a good distance away from other cars. Mileage jumped to 55!

This car is great. It gets great millage and handles like a dream. It has lots of get-up-and-go. I usually am the first off the line. The voice recognigition dosn't always understand me, but I can live with that. This free GPS upgrade that I'm getting next week might fix that. I would like a few of the extras they have on the Japaneese models, like the beeping bumpers, the tilting mirrors when backing, the auto paralell parking feature sounds great too. I'm glad other Prius owners don't have the TV, but I would like to have that feature.

We had put 16,500 miles on our 2003 Prius, when we got delivery on the 2004, after a 6 mo.wait.While it suits us better because it is a bigger car, it is not as "peppy" a car as the 2003. While the EPA rating is 60mph, we have never managed to get better than 49mpg,probably due, in part, because we use air or heat almost all the time,and also carry 600lbs. Rear window visibility takes some getting used to,as does the keyless entry system. There has been a mysterious,albeit very intermittent squeaking "brake noise" which is improved, but still not completely resolved after 2 dealer trips.All considered, we love the hybrid car concept and this car is an excellent design.We recommend purchase.

This is my second Prius. I purchased my first in 2000 and loved it. The new model has been a major disappointment. My major complaint is with the quality of the car. I have had numerous problems with navigation system and overall fit and finish of the car. Noises coming from dashboard and hatchback that dealer cannot find or fix. Hatchback sounds like old pickup truck going over bumps. Suspension stiff and noisy. Acceleration is overrated compared to auto reviews. Mileage not as good for my driving conditions because larger engine requires more time to warm up. At times engine violently shakes car when going off. Experience confirms Fall 2004 WSJ story on slip in Toyota quality.

After 1 year of ownership, I have to say, I love this car! Never have I so throughly enjoyed a car before. Toyota has really made leaps and bounds in Hybrid technology. I seem to discover something new in the car every time I drive it. This car has ample space on the inside. you can actually put an 8 foot ladder in the car by folding the rear seats and the passenger seat. The voice activated control system is a little quirky to use but fun none of the less. The GPS is nice too. The Prius is a great conversation starter, whether you are at a party or at a traffic light. People are just curious about it. I'm only too glad to tell them about it. You have to experience the Prius. I love mine...

As a first time buyer of Totota I'm very impressed with the purchase procedure from the dealership and the performance of my new Prius. From being on the waiting list to my phone call that it was my turn to make a decision I was treated with respect and honesty. One disappointment was that the Toyo Guard Protection was automatically included in the price. I don't feel for the price it's worth it. My best fuel economy has been 55 mpg for a tankful of gas and the worst 42 mpg, an interstate trip @ 70-75 mph sustained, which I was delighted with.

I have and my wife has driven Toyota Prius over 500 miles so far and we BOTH love it. In town it is very quiet and GREAT on gas. On the open road with cruise it gets 56 mpg. Inside and out is nicely designed. Can hold five persons real comfortably. Why there are not more Hybrids on the road we do not understand.

Half-year review of 2004 Toyota Prius

Tire pressures were 5# over those recommended by owner's manual, and rear- seat ride was noisy and uncomfortable; both front and rear are good to excellent now and less tiring than other vehicles driven. Power steering provides less road feel than others driven, but with practice (6500 on odometer) it becomes more natural. Fuel consumption has been greater than mfg. estimates, but is steadily improving with experience driving conservatively and apparent break-in. Freeway driving and hill climbing performance is competitive with all but the hottest; acceleration is very smooth and surprisingly brisk, given the 1.5 L engine size.

We long anticipated owning this car. It took us 6 months on the waiting list to finally arrive. We got the top-of-the-line package (#9) with 6 air bags & voice activated navagation system. We have put close to 7k miles on the car & not a single problem. This is a fantastic car to drive, very quiet (except on steep grades), exceptional mileage (avg 47MPG since we have owned it), very reliable and comfortable with the isofoam seats!! I can't say enough about how refined this car is and how everything works so well together. The car is very roomy inside & has good space utilization (hatchback & fold down seats). My one big worry is if I break down in the middle of nowhere!!!!

We bought this car due to a work commute and what it "represents" environmentally. We have gotten up to 69 miles per gallon, although we seem to average around 58-59 mpg - and that is almost all highway driving. We have taken it over the grapevine, "possibly" in excess of the posted speed limit with no problem. We love this car and can't wait for the hybrid highlander to come out. The car is so quiet, you can hear the road noise - or at least we notice it more than other vehicles we have had, so we turn on the radio.... With this technology available, there is no reason not to have it in all passenger & SUV vehicles.

This vehicle is the greatest all-around commuter vehicles on the road. The interior space is exceptional with rear hatch & 60/40 fold down seats. Fits 4 comfortably w/luggage room for 4-day weekend. Power steering is smooth & responsive & turning radius is one of the smallest I've experienced. Battery is recharged when you brake. NO extension cord & NO you don't plug it in at night. In Virginia (high MPG's) allows you to ride in HOV (High Occupancy Vehicle) lane with only one passenger. Less than $15/week (87 octane) gas saves enough money to make 2 car payments a year! The US Gov't should GIVE one to eveyone & we woundn't have to import oil! Not sure about battery replacement $$$?.

I have owned a 04 prius for about o month & have put about 5000 kl on it.I drove to from Winnipeg to Calgary about 1400 kl(875 miles) I traveled from appox. 100 to 110 kl per hour, (62 t0 68 ) mile phr,The best part is in the rolling hilled I had it on criuse and it stay exactly at 100, not 99 or 101, I did not take of criuse control, something that I was never able to do before even with V8s, gas milage averaged about (4.5 ltrs per 100 kls) (62 miles per imperal gallongal. emile

I waited four months for my Prius and it was well worth the wait! I love driving it, the fold down back seats make it easy to carry big loads, and it gets an average of 45mpg. After I bought mine, three friends followed suit, so now there are four Prius' in the parking lot at our health club. We all believe that saving on fossil fuels is a true American value, and so is cutting down on air pollution. My sister and one of my daughters are next in line to get theirs!

Waited 6 months to get it but it was worth every second of it. Performance is very good, has a great cool factor. Getting about 51 MPG on mostly backroads with hills. What can I say, I love it.

Just returned from a 4200 mile trip to TX and rtn to CA. Traveled Rte I-40, altitude 7334 plus, on problems. averaged 45 MPG for the trip driving 70 - 75 MPH.

There is a reason why there is a 6 month wait for this car. It has exceeded all my expectations in performance, comfort, convenience, consumption. If you want to half your trips to the gas station, and half the bills everytime. This is the car to get! I will trade-in my other car, an SUV for a hybrid SUV as soon as possible.

The 2004 Prius is an amazing automobile. It is a car of adequate size for most transportation tasks and yet achieves over 50 MPG. It is a very nice looking car with good ride characteristics which is fun to drive. It is extremely environmentally friendly and, if driven by everyone, would reduce gas consumption in the USA by half. Truly the auto of the future.

Toyota has another winner! This vehicle is surprisingly lively for a 1.5L engine. handling is that of a much heavier car; very solid. A little limited on cargo space but still able to transport a wheel chair. Ideal for around town driving and excellent milage on hiway.

This is the best car I have ever driven! I drive nearly 40 miles each way to work over (mostly) country roads, I have several stops and turns. I average 50-53 MPG. My husband has more head room in this car than in any car we have had. The car handles great in all weather conditions. I arrived on time at work all last winter. My 87 year old father (a former mechanic and staunchly "buy American") has said, "If I were to buy another car, this would be it; it is a quality car all around!"

Am not getting the 60 mpg city driving that I expected, more like 43-48. On the highway, however, I average 50-53, even at 65mph. Love the car. Plan to buy a 2nd one for our family.

So far, nothing but nice surprises from my Prius. Much more get-up-and-go than I expected. I'm averaging 50 mpg. No problems. The contols are easy to use without taking your eyes off the road. The navigation system is wonderful.

It is a great car. It is very gratifying to save the environment and save money. There is plenty of power to drive the steep WV mountains on the interstate. I have plenty of passing power. I especially like the "blue tooth" key system. I can keep the key in my briefcase and never have to remove it!

I love this car! It is so much fun to drive and so comfortable that my husband and I drove from NJ to Georgia direct with only the basic stops along the way and still felt refreshed when we arrived. The car is averaging anywheres from 48 mpg to 59, however, we have already gotten over 60 mpg on occasion.
