If you change the oil, keep it tuned and do the very basics of car care...this thing runs and runs and runs. Bought this unloved Camry at an estate auction well below blue book because it had been wrecked. Had 17k on it when we bought it. Repairs were all original Toyota parts according to the local Toyota dealer. 196,000 miles later despite the abuse of one of our young male drivers and we have yet to replace any parts on the car other than brakes and tires. We're giving the car away to someone who needs reliable transportation. At 196K the engine is not using oil and the compression all checks good. I bought another Camry LE (2010) with 28K on it for the very fact that we know that these cars go the distance if you do the basic maintenance. You get a nice sedan that makes your bucks go a very long way.

I bought my 2004 Toyota Camry very slightly used - essentially new. It gave me more than ten years and more than 120,000 miles of rock solid reliable use over its lifetime. The Camry performed and handled pretty much as you would expect from a full-sized sedan of its class. It was designed as an everyday workhorse sedan with an emphasis on dependability, fuel-efficiency, and utility. It excelled at those traits and provided very satisfactory performance with the exception of the turning radius, which seemed overly wide and could be a pain in parking lot situations. I never had any real problem with acceleration when I needed it. Driving the Camry felt natural the ride was comfortable. The technology in my vehicle featured some very nice convenience features - most especially an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, auto-off headlights, and auto-locking doors. My Camry also had powered driver seat adjustment. The car's interior was roomy and comfortable. Its decor was tasteful and withstood ten-plus years of heavy use quite well. My only complaint about the interior was that the lid latch on the center console broke and repairing it was too expensive to be worth the cost. Cargo capacity in the Camry was more than satisfactory. It had a spacious trunk and the rear seats could fold down if needed. This provided as much cargo room as I could ask from a four-door sedan. The car's exterior characteristics were, on the whole, very good. It had a pleasing design and it kept its quality throughout its life. The sole outstanding negative of the 2004 Camry's body was that it had extremely low ground clearance, which could lead to scraping the bottom of the front bumper or the undercarriage in some cases. The Camry's safety seemed to be good. There was a recall on the side curtain air-bags, including my own vehicle. Other than that, I always felt that it was a safe car and in the one major collision I had with it - one which was not the fault of the car - the car was rugged enough to prevent any personal injury. Reliability is perhaps the most famous aspect of Toyota's reputation. In that regard, the 2004 Camry was absolutely incredible. Over the course of more than ten years of hard use - including a number of trips crossing multiple states - it did not suffer a single breakdown and had only one major component failure, that being a computer chip for the air conditioning system. At ten years, I would still rely on the 2004 Camry to take my from coast to coast without a second thought. And when I did replace this vehicle, I bought yet another Camry.

I've purchased my Camry in Jan. 2015, with about 196,000 miles on the odometer. I drive a lot and over the course of a year, I've put on about 36,000 grueling miles of San Francisco-area traffic; a lot of city street driving, with a decent blend of highway commuting as well. Because I drive so much in heavy traffic and because of the already high miles on the car, I was a bit nervous that it might bite the dust before I could afford something newer and nicer. But in fact, it's only left me stranded once - and that was only because of a bad battery. Now at 231,000 miles, it's still running on the original 2.4L engine and original transmission. It's starting to shift harshly and it has a few electrical issues, but you can't say most cars will make it past 230,000 miles. Bulletproof reliability, even survived a bad accident I was involved in back in October. It needed a new control arm and has a few battle wounds from the incident, but still drives and handles like how some cars drive at 90,000 miles. This was my first Toyota and I'm VERY satisfied! Definitely going to be a repeat Toyota customer!

Bought this car from brother in law three years ago who followed all maintenance requirements, as did I. Had to replace sagging headliner and rear speaker covers. Added new tires, brakes, alternator, battery, frequent oil changes, transmission flushes, etc. Car ran great for three years. In 2015, my son and I noticed a sloshing sound behind the dash. Coolant in reservoir was low, even though we checked it regularly. Filled it and took to mechanic. He initially thought that it was the stripped head bolt problem. Coolant was leaking into the engine. Cracked head. Said that the car had been overheated, even though there was never any indication of overheating on instrument panel or smoking, etc. Mechanic stated that it was nothing that I did and that this was a very poorly designed engine and I would be wasting my money to replace the engine, as I would be getting another defective engine design. He stated that he had always believed Toyota to be great cars, but not after working on this one. Car had 126,000 miles on it. Interior quality was also very cheap. Flannel cloth doors! Not at all the same quality as my 1994 Camry in terms of longevity or quality. Gas mileage was good, but not so good now! What a complete waste of money for a car that had been so well maintained. Do not buy!

I read every review on this thread and it appears I am 1 of about 20 fellow 2004 Camry owners who have experienced similar, if not the same, issues with acceleration and/or rattling noises near the driver side firewall area. It's a shame, because prior to this Camry, which I purchased used from Carsense in 2014 w/76K miles on it, I was a devoted Toyota owner. Now my opinion of Toyota has changed. My advice to someone considering this model would be to move onto another option. Don't take your chances. And research EVERYTHING prior to signing the dotted line. Don't pass on the extended warranty either (even tough that's not a 100% guaranteed safety net either).

I recently drove my grandmothers camry on a 800 mile round trip road trip with 4 adults and a trunk full of stuff. At first, I was worried about the power because we were going to be going up and down mountains all day, but there were no problems. Even up the steepest grades, no power was lost and it even stayed in overdrive. A majority of the time the car was pushing 80, and the ride was very relaxing with no road noise and responsive steering. It was a very comfortable car to ride in and the trip average was 30mpg both ways. The car has 68,000 miles and the only thing that was ever replaced were tires, brakes (65,000 miles) and a steering bushing.

bought it new for Xmas back in 03, couldn't resist the 0% APR offered by Toyota Financing. Anyway it'll be close to 10 years since then and I've driven it almost all over the PST/MST zones. City economy is never higher than 24, freeway cruising between 75-80 nets 29 and back-road cruising between 45-55 nets a high of 36. Yep 36 but I rarely drive that slow for that long so that almost never happens. I keep up with all the scheduled maintenance as a rule, change the oil every 3-4k miles and it just keeps on trucking. 200 lbs/ft tq is enough to carry a family of 5 from the coast to the peaks with a trunk full of luggage. And food. And a cooler too. I almost bought another 04 once, haha

I was gifted this car two years ago after a family member purchased a new car. Having a 2000 Nissan Maxima, I decided this would an upgrade. Boy was I wrong. This car gets the same MPG as my Maxima, about 20-22 in town and 26 on the highway. For a vehicle with only 70,000 miles when I got it, and a Toyota, it sure has a lot of problems. It eats tires and brakes, it leaves me stranded, and it's most recent repair needed, a new Throttle Body, costs upwards of 1,400 dollars at only 95 k! I am going back to my Maxima after two years in the Toyota, and couldn't be happier. Newer and more expensive isn't always better!

I was a little skeptical about getting this car at first. Now, I'm glad that I made the purchase. It has NEVER left me stranded and has ALWAYS sent me from Point A to Point B. So far, the only maintenance I have done to my car was oil changes, a new battery, and tires. I also love the moonroof and the leather seats. The JBL sound system is also a pretty nice system. The only thing that I can think that I dislike is the rear window shade. Other than that, thumbs up on this end. Toyota's might be expensive to purchase, but maintenance cost and insurance are SO LOW that it makes up for it.

I now have about 115,000 miles on this car. There have been no problems. Even what I consider expected repairs came much later than expected; brake pads at 85,000, struts at 110,000. This is even after having been driven by two teenage boys. MPG is great; 27 on daily commute, and 34 on vacation road trips. i have enough confidence in this car that I let my son take it to college with him. I replaced it for my use with a 2007 Camry and have been disappointed. the 2004 is vastly superior.

Bought this car with 39k on it. The car rides well and has good stability. If I have any complaints is the interior cloth seats tend to generate static electricity and don't hold up well with child seats. The interior is loaded with plastic. Car is tight, steers well and a pleasure to drive. It actually has a lot of similar characteristics to a luxury car I have that costs almost 3 times the price.

This has been the best car ever. Maybe not the sharpest looking but the way it handles, it's smooth ride, quiet interior, quick acceleration and outstanding gas mileage makes it tops in my book. I consistently get 28-29 mpg. On my curvy road to and from home, I could effortlessly sail around the curves without a worry. Driving on snow and ice was solid. My husband preferred my car to his Ford Explorer for winter weather driving. If I could get another exactly like this but without the higher miles, I would.

Throttle Body Failure - Recall Coming?

As has been reported to Toyota and the NHTSA, the throttle body will fail on this vehicle due to a design flaw. Do a web search on this model of Toyota and you'll see numerous instances of "throttle body failure." We just had to spend $1100 getting it replaced on our 2004 Camry and because it is a design flaw, it will fail again. The car will simply stop in the middle of the road with no way of restarting it.

After 86k miles, my Camry is still trucking along with no problems, no unusual expense. The worst I've had is tires that wore prematurely (Potenza) -- nice performance tires but wore out at 35k. On the good side, no need for brake job 'til 60k! Aside from that, only 1 regret that it did not come with much tinting! making it hot in summer. Otherwise a fantastic car and the only comfortable seat I've ever owned.

The 2004 Camry, that I purchased new, needed the brakes repaired @ my 3 day check up. I am now getting the throttle body replaced for the 3rd time ($1400.-). I also replaced an Oxygen sensor. I drove my last vehicle, a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix 140,000 with the original throttle body & Oxygen sensor. I thought I was buying the reliable/dependable vehicle they advertise. I got a clunker!

Although the height of the interior is fairly short, the car provides an excellent amount of leg room. The dashboard is equipped with the standard settings with the max speed reaching to 110mph. To the right of the dashboard lies the music system, which includes CDs, cassettes, and radio, and beneath the music system is the heating and cooling controls. Being a car with auto transmission, the car is installed with an automatic-stick just to the right of the driver. Along with the automatic stick shift is the hill parking handle, and two cup holders for whatever drinks that the driver may have. Between the backrests of the passenger and driver seat is a small compartment to store misc. items.

Please note that if you have a 2004 or 2005 Toyota Camry, you may want to dump it now before it is too late. The vehicle has a part called the throttle body assembly which was of a faulty design and was redesigned. Toyota sent out a technical service bulletin reference number EG023-05. This part, the throttle body assembly with motor, costs $934. On our 2004 Toyota Camry XLE, replaced this on 08-06- 2007. On 09-09-2009, this part quit again and my wife had to walk an extended distance and Toyota refused to repair this faulty part for less than $1100.66. They had every excuse imaginable. Bottom line - Toyota does not stand behind their product - DUMP THEM.

I bought this vehicle used with 90,000km on the odom. I paid the full price as if it was brand new: $33,000. The interior was not in great condition. I hated the silver color. I drove it 5,000km before it was stolen from Edmonton, Alberta. It was recovered 3 months later with 40,000km than when I bought it. It was driven day and night and was stolen by drug dealers I suppose. The engine was gone on the vehicle due to not changing the oil. If you are going to steal a vehicle maybe perhaps check the oil once in a while! The car while I had it was fun to drive and with the 4 cylinder extremely excellent!

Steering column has begun to click when I turn. Not sure what the problem is. As the Toyota service mechanic told me, not to worry this happens to all Camry's. When AC is on idle problems occur when I start to slow down. It feels like the car is about to shut off. When I come home from work around 5pm. I do not use my car until the next day which is around 8:30am. Car feels like not turning on as if it was parked for a few months. It might be the battery.

I'm a 30-year owner of Toyota--had a 1981 Toyota Corona for 16 years and sold it to a friend who drove it another three years before trading it in. I had a lovely 1998 Toyota Camry -- only problem before sold it was getting an oil leak stopped--it was costly to get to, but the part was cheap to fix, labor was excessive due to how hard it was to get to. Had a Buick in 2005, and was really glad when purchased this 2004 Camry in 2007 with only 9,000 miles on it. Car has a popping sound when turn wheel to park in garage at night. Am told if it bothers me, labor cost to get to part is about $250; it's not bothering me that much yet. Was in an accident in 1988 Camry; it saved my life I think.

Hi folks I just wanted you all to know that when Toyota built this car they did it right with crashes. My 18 yr old was in a rollover, it rolled three times and she walked away with 6 stitches in her left hand and the inside was unharmed. The outside however did what it was designed to do, it broke away from the driver. Thank you Toyota for a well made car. I will be looking for a new one just like this one.

I started experiencing shifting problems, but the dealer couldn't fix it. While turning on a busy 4 lane highway, the transmission went out. I do not abuse this car (I am too old to beat any car up). Now I have a $4000 bill for a new transmission. I have found out that this has been a problem for other owners but Toyota will not acknowledge or take car of their problems. Other than that the motor ran well and I got good mileage, but I would never buy another one.

I bought the car 9 months ago with 34,000 miles. It now has 68,900. So far I have just had to replace the front brake pads. It does have a couple of rattles in the dash that I can't find. I turn up the radio and that takes care of that. The paint job could use a little improvement no shine, dull. The sunroof has a wind whistle and I have to tap the close button and it closes all the way. No leaks so far. Stinky smell coming from the AC vents. A trip to the dealer for the AC refresher treatment cured that little problem. My Camry has the 4 banger and gets around 24/26 city and 28/34 highway. I have a lead foot so this is good. I also like the fact that it has a time chain instead of a belt.

Not the "bulletproof" Toyota I expected, but still a very good car for the price. The intermediate steering shaft went @ 36K and the water pump was leaking slightly @ the block. Both fixed under warranty. The front driver's seat has a squeak when you sit down and the wipers squeak against the window (tried both after market and Toyota replacements). Unlike others, no problems with the paint, rust @ the trunk lid, odors from the A/C or heater, or the auto transmission (shifts fine). Makes you wonder if Toyota has "built on Monday" problems like GM used to have. Got 60K out of the original Potenza tires -- I know, that's unbelievable. Rotated them often and watched the pressure.

It's been 4 years since I picked up my Camry. It now has 99,000 miles, and I have had zero problems with it. I replaced the original Michelin tires at 75k miles, along with the rear brakes. Front brakes were done at 98,000 miles. I'd like to see improved instrument panel lighting. It is difficult for my 59 year old eyes to see the gauges (including the speedometer) at night. From what I've seen, this has been improved in later model years. Although this is a lot of car for the money, I would have gladly spent a bit more for traction control, but it was not available with the 4 cyl. engine.

We bought the car as a certified used car with 38,000 miles on it and now have 97,000 with no problems whatsoever. On a recent trip to Houston we drove between 60 and 65 MPH and got 35.5 MPG! (New tires and wheel alignment prior to the trip.) Love the lumbar support and the quiet ride. The only complaint is the easily scratched exterior paint. Much less road noise than the Hondas we have owned.

I've owned this car from new and have serviced all fluids regularly (transmission, coolant and steering included). It is my rolling office and my main concerns are reliability and economy. It avarages 30 mpg, needed front brake pads at 72,000, wiper blades at 75,000, spark plugs at 100,000, pads with rotors at 153,000. The only unschedualed repair to date was the right rear brake light bulb at 103,000. The rear brakes have had regular cleaning but have not worn out. If Toyota made appliances, computers etc. I would buy them

The V6 Camry is a wonderful car to drive. I have driven it for nearly 4 years and am very satisfied. Fuel economy is decent, cannot complain. I gave performance a 5 because of the delay when the gas is pressed a bit much, but sometimes noticeable even with calm acceleration (somewhat annoys me).

I bought this car brand new in 2004 and drove about 45000 miles so far. No problem. Excellent in driving. Only drawback would be gas consumption compared to hybrids. If you are not planning to buy a new hybrid, this would be a excellent choice. Peace of mind.

This was my first Toyota and probably my last. Transmission replaced at 2300 miles. Problem returned at 5600 miles-traced to faulty valve body. Trunk lid rust at six months- repainted under warranty. Several squeaks and rattles from the dash and front door could not be fixed. Thermostat failed at 40K, not covered. Steering intermediate shaft loose and clunking at 42K. Toyota refused coverage even though a TSB was issued about this problem. Repair cost over $600. Engine always used about 16 oz of anti-freeze every 5K. Toyota said that was "within tolerable limits". Drive by wire throttle tip-in is very abrupt making a smooth launch tough.

Purchased a 2004 LE V6 Camry used. Already have a 2001 LE V6. '04 model has a different body style that is vastly quieter and somewhat larger. The 04 was the first year for the 5 sp auto on the V6 and improves mileage on trips and decreases noise at high speeds, but the transmission shifting is much worse (and erratic) in the city than my 01. All TSBs have been applied. Dealer indicates it is operating as designed. Transmission also now requires Toyota fluid (vs Dextron 3 for 01). Ride seems somewhat smoother, but this is less noticable than the improvement in cabin noise. Rear doors are longer, making exit/entry more difficult. Trunk went from large to absolutely huge.

I love this car! I traded my '95 Celica for one last fall, and there is not one regret! Its fast, fun, sporty, and it is so cavernous! So what if it doesn't get 40mpg - if you want that, get a Prius! I agree with 2% of the ratings out there as far as the odd tranny shifting & paint scratches, but that's it. If you want a solidly built, safe & reliable car that is fun to drive in every condition, get a Camry.

I bought Camry LE limited edition in 2006 December. This is just perfect car to me. Engine and transmission are amazing. Fun to drive, very comfortable, design is beautiful, I think 2004 model is better than 2006 new model in exterior design. Gas mileage is somewhat unsatisfactory. Average mpg 22.0 I think this low mpg is due to cold weather. 3-4 minutes warming up before start, and hitting in driving. Camry is the best car in mid-size. Any car is not matching to this camry.

I bought this car a little over a year ago. So far, everything has been all right, (at best). Here's the deal, so far my cars been completely reliable to me, but then again any car should be within the first few years. THE BAD: (and I need to take it to a dealer on this: 1.) Leaking water sound EVERY time I accelerate. Sounds like water is swooshing around in dash, 2.) FOUL ODORS, when accelerating fast, and when turning on the A/C. 3.) for whatever reason (especially when humid, the belt squeals constantly. 4.) Interior quality is poor. The "painted plastic" is wearing everywhere. 5.) Gas mileage is not what I thought it would be, Could be due to one of the above issues? Don't know.

I have owned a Camry for 10 yrs and am very pleased wth the performance and style. The 2004 was bought in Aug 2004. It has developed a rust problem in the trunk. The trunk gutter has visible rust at all the spot weld points all around the trunck. Also would have preferred 16'' wheels. Have experienced excessive tire noise on the highway - noticeable by the radio volume increasing when on the highway. Don't think I have bad ears yet.

When I first purchased this vehicle I was excited about the quality of the vehicle and the smoothness of the ride. However, after approximately 22 months and 23k miles the check engine light came on. I brought it to the dealership and it was fixed. After 26k miles the tires were worn and needed to be replaced. Now, at 27.5k miles the check engine light is on again. After the first few weeks of owning the car I noticed a rattling in the dash that just can't be solved and I am still driving with that rattling. I am extremely surprised by these issues. I will have to evaluate other options next time I'm in the market for a car, which may be soon.

The 04 SE 4cyl seems to me as the most bang for your buck. The V6 has some added features but it also kicks up the price out of range. The 4 cyl gives you all that you want and leaves out the things you can live w/out like steel wheels, a spoiler and ofcourse more power. W/the 4 cyl you still get the sporty interior design (black w/chrome accent), the sporty grill, headlights and fog lights. After 40,000k everything about the car is the same as the day I drove it out of the lot. For a big car that can fit 5 adults comfortably, and a spacious trunk for pretty much anything, the gas mileage is very good. Icing on the cake is you get a spoiler. What more can you ask for?

Pleasant to drive, lots of room but the radio sounds a bid cheap despite a bunch of speakers. The windshield developed a tiny crack near the roof that progressively lengthed to about 2 feet before replaced. There seems to be a tendency for the chassis to twist and crack the windshield! Like others I've had a dash rattle. Also, tap the brakes when slowing from 70 on a downslope and the tranny very perceptively downshifts. No answers from dealer.

I started getting rattles from the dash area as soon as I drove it off the dealers lot. Took it back 7 times and they could not resolve it. Told me to drive and bring it back before the 36k mile warranty and they would try again to fix the rattles. Brakes feel spongy and original Goodyear tires were lousy in rain. Changed to Yokohama tires and drives like a different car. City gas mileage is only 22. Highway is 34. Last Toyota for me. Will buy Honda Accord or Civic. Toyota dealer support is lousy. They dont spend much time trying to fix warranty problems.

We've had the 4cyl Camry LE for over 2 years. Great car, but a little bland. Ride is floaty, comfortable, and handles reasonably well considering. Interior too light colored to keep clean. Small squeaks under close scrutiny. Brakes without ABS, OK. Opt for ABS for better brake feel and stopping distance. Acceleration light, but buzzy at times. Some interior materials get scratched as do the hubcaps against the curb. Steering is light, but very precise. Stock radio provides good bass. Overall, great car, 9/10. QUIETER than the Accord at highway speeds meaning less fatigue. Reliable. Would purchase again, but with side airbags. If purchasing, go with the alloys and side airbags.

Bought the 04 Camry LE for 1.5 year. Got 17k miles on it. Got a few problems too: 1) Tires. The both rear tires blew out within 13,000 miles. Bridgestone tires' quality seems questionable. 2) Left rear door could not be openned from inside. Toyota dealer fixed, saying that the cable was broken. 3) One transmitter was broken. replacing battery did not work out. 4) Gas mileage: highway 32, local 17-20. Local gas mileage lower than claimed. 5) My head often gets knocked by the top frame because design of raised driver's seat makes front head room insufficient. 6) Brakes not as good as my old Mazda 626. It takes longer distance to stop the car.

Another rear tyre totally blew on the highway at 13000 miles. These are not covered under warranty. One transmitter was broken after one year. The rear left door could not be opened from inside. Fortunately, it is still under warranty and was fixed by the dealer. Gas mileage: 17-20 (local), highway 32.

My wife purchased a brand new Toyota Camry in Feb. of 2004. We took it off the lot and thought wow what a car, great interior design and fun to drive. However several months down, my wife who's a very careful driver said the check engine light came on. We took it to the dealer and they fix it. A few months later again "Check engine"! Next the A/C system started leaking water into the passanger compartment. Dealer took care of it, but how annoying! Today the car needs servicing again, the steering column is making a loud noise when i turn the wheel. Look out, and get a warranted car.

Overall, I've been very pleased with my Camry. We've driven it under a great variety of circumstances, from urban Los Angeles to barren West Texas. Trip fuel milage has averages about 31 MPG which is appreciated with the current price of fuel. The Camry is comfortable on trips, although the seats are a little firm and could benefit from some more prominent side bolsters. Mechanically, it has been absolutely reliable. My only real complaint is some vibration noise in the dashboard/instrument panel, which can be annoying at times. As a family sedan, the Camry should definitely be on your short list for consideration.

I have had my Camry for over a year now and I love it. It drives great and is an extremly comfortable car. I had a 2004 Honda Civic and traded it in to buy this car. The Camry is far superior to the Civic. It drives better, is more comfortable and reliable. I had many problems with my brand new Civic and none with my Camry over the same time period. I believe ever since Toyoya started building cars in America, quality has gone down. I bought my Camry with 1000 miles already on it, but it was new since it had no title. Problems I've had with my car are, the paint - no clearcoat and one layer of paint make it easy to get chips, I have MANY; dashboard - rattles; sunroof - leaks; front passenger speaker - rattles; engine - V6 is not responsive; and the front driver window - doesnt seal properly. The only problem that has been solved is the leaking sunroof. All other problems have been brought to MULTIPLE Toyota dealerships and ignorance has caused me to still have these problems to date. If you want a more reliable car, look elsewhere.

My 04 Camry has many problems. Here is a list of problems I have: 1. It pulls to left. Dealer repaired 5 times without result. 2. Tires wear too fast. At only 15000 miles, many treads were already gone. I rotated tires regularly. 3. Windshield bottom rattles. Dealer replaced the cowl with only temporary results. 4. Rattles from door panels. 5. I heard rattle from engine or under vehicle every time I started the car and hit on gas to drive. Dealer said it is the intake manifold. After replaced, the rattle is still there. 7. Strong rotten egg smell at 8000 miles. Replaced converter and reprogramed ECM. The car started to feel heavy(hard acceleration, hard steering, and hard brake).

This is my first Toyota purchase. I felt that if bought a Camry, I could kiss any frustrations goodbye. Not true! This car has an annoying lag time when the car is slowing down ( stop and go traffic), and then you try to accelerate. There is a dead spot, then it jumps ahead, as if the transmission doesn"t know which gear to go in. This is the new Drive by wire technology according to Toyota. The local dealership has acknowledged this a problem, and they are working on a programming change, but in the meantime, the car can be very aggravating to drive. They must resolve this problem. I will not put up with it. As for gas mileage, it is not as good as stated. The car does have lots of power.

Overall this is a nice car. This is my 1st Camry and I'm pleased with the car. I like the 5 speed even though is does hesitate when shifting. On the highway this is a sweet car and doesn't hesitate to go when you hit the pedal. I know one thing I will probably never go back to a american car brand the quality is no match and the design shows they thought everything out to benefit the consumer. I will definitely consider Toyota when the time comes to buy another car. It is fun to drive in nice weather with the sunroof open and the radio playing as you cruise down the road.

I am pretty much impressed with the handling of this car and the good gas mileage for a big car. I bought this 2004 Salsa Red Pearl Camry last Nov. 2003 and have used 18K to date. I normally just use 12-13K a year but I loved driving it so much my wife and I use it more than her car. I just wish it had a sportier look like the Altima or Accord. But overall it's worth the money!

This car with manual trans has a lot of power. I can merge into the highway with a lot of confidence. The fuel economy is very good, never below 24mpg. I liked the roomy interior and the simple board design. A little bit difficult to drive in hilly terrain, since I found that the clutch has a small range of engagement. Its weight also makes the uphill starting more difficult. Overall still like it, just take time to get used to it.

When it comes to just needing a quality car for a pretty good price, this is hard to beat. It has decent power when you need it, as long as that is "needing it" like once a day or less. The 4 cyl is built for comfort, mpg's and lasting ability. Can't speak for the latter yet, but the first two have been really good. About 28mpg on city travel, not sure on long distances yet.

We bought our Camry LE in Feb. and truly "broke it in" according to the manual. On 2900 mile trip afterwards averaged just over 32 mpg.(Including city driving). Now have 13,000 trouble free miles & avg. better. This car has no rattles, squeaks, ect. It is comfortable and a pleasure to drive. Some say it's handling is boring. My sister owns a 2001 Honda Accord EX. Around town our Camry is everybit as enjoyable, if not more so. On the open road the smoother ride more than makes up for a touch less handling in curves. - The build quality, interior materials and refinement make us feel like we own a much more expensive car.

I love this car for a v-6 it gets better gas mileage than what the sticker says if you don't lead foot it but normal driving great. We took it on a trip it got 29-32 mpg with air on even with regular gas just a little better with higher octane

I bought my 04 Camry in 11/03 and have put 15,000 trouble free miles on it. I average 26 mpg in mixed city and highway driving. The car is quiet, smooth and comfortable. My only complaint is that it is so refined that it's a little boring to drive. My wifes minivan is more fun to drive. Based on what dealers are asking for used ones, it seems to have held its resale well.

wanted a manual, but bit on some sales talk that the automatics were near the same fuel economy that didn't prove true. It averages 25-27 mpg on pure freeway, 18 in the city. The funky things about this car are: radio static - attenae on older models did better; weird configuration of radio and vents does not allow adequate aeration near driver on very hot days, radio display almost invisible in daylight; velvet interior (even on armrest) gets soiled easily.

I did not consider buying this car a week before I actually purchased it. I am a Nissan fan myself and originally wanted an 03 Maxima or the new Altima SL. Considering the prices and quality/reliability, I decided to go with the Camry. Toyota has a better record of producing reliable cars and my SE was about $4K cheaper than the SL. My parents have the base LE and there are signifant differences between them that I can not stand driving the LE. The Accord was another good choice, but I liked the styling better on the Camry. SE was also cheaper than the V6 Accord.

Everything about this car is great except for the 5 speed automatic transmission. The transmission can't seem to decide what gear is correct and is always shifting. In addition, the drive-by-wire throttle combined with the transmission causes the car to hesitate when acceleration is needed most. Toyota says that hesitation is the driver's fault and that when the car is driven, the accelerator pedal must not be floored or pressed too quickly otherwise hesitation will result. Toyota told me that they may or may not address this issue in the future, but at the present time I am told that "hesitation is normal for this design".

Within a week after taking delivery I (and others in the vehicle) noticed several squeaks & rattles. The dealer has ordered a replacement center dash and is still trying to resolve the noises coming from the parcel shelf area. Loose seatback was repaired as was exterior door rub guard. I was surprised as this vehicle came so well rated. I average 1,500 kms per week so time will tell how this unit will hold up.

I have always wanted a Camry because all my friends that have them have loved them. I have really enjoyed mine now for 5 months. The ride is very smooth and it holds 4 men comfortably. Gas milage is good. My only complaints are the car seems to have difficulty shifting from 1st to 2nd gear at times. This seems to happen when going medium speed (not a problem when accelerating slowly or rapidly). It also seems to ride a little rough first thing in the morning.

Drives good, comfortable and quite at highway speeds. car feels classy but could use a little more convenience ergonamicly. fuel economy is decent. this car feels very safe to drive. I find visibility good too. trunk is big enough for good size luggage. I'm looking forward to Toyota's reliability. Toyota's top of the line sports edition with the 3.3 liter (225hp) engine needs some fine tuning. Toyota should replace the current 5 speed transmission. The trans should be propelling the car forward and not shifting from 1st to 2nd gear at 8mph. Pick-up is compromised due to the low 8mph shifting. It would be nice to keep pace with mini-vans and compact cars from stop lights. Obviously people who rave about this 5 speed transmission have never driven a real driver's car.

When they didn't call me back, I called them and they told me the same thing the auto-body shop told me.....that the part wouldn't be avail. until 9/13/04. That time frame is simply unacceptable and reflects very poor customer service on Toyota's part.

Traded my silverado for a gas miser. It was a difficult decision to make. The camry has made the transition a bit easier than I anticipated. The car is simple and refined. It offers a good array of standard features at a reasonable cost. I am very pleased with the ride and comfort. The camry works well for me with or without my family. The four is peppy and I am very pleased with the standard stero. I suggest adding a spoiler to produce a bit of a sporty look to the otherwise family styled 4 door. The standard power driver seat is nice. The adjustable lumbar support is a nice feature that should be ulitized when traveling long distances.

My husband and I have been driving Toyotas for 35 years and have always been completely satisfied. Unfortunately, when we bought this car we didn't test drive it and what a mistake that was. It hesitates and jumps ahead on a steady basis, but you never know when. I really feel this is dangerous and we will never buy a Toyota again. It feels like it's struggling to get any pick up. I'm being told that this is because there's a device protecting the transmission. Sorry, Toyota, you messed up on this model. We are trading it in but not for another Toyota.

Our car had a transmission failure at 3,500 miles. Transmission was replaced and then still had serious safety issues. Dealer tried to fix but to no avail. Toyota region declared a lemon and then insisted that at a time when 2005s are out we had to take an identical 2004 after waiting and inconvenience for 3 months. They were never concerned about our inconvenience or that my family's safety was at risk while they tried to fix it. Toyota customer service is no better and perhaps worse than others!!!

I own both a 2003 Accord EX V6 and a Camry SE V6. Both are very well built vehicles. I am more impressed with the Camry because it drives better and overall a better built car. For about 25k, the Accord has a lot more options like dual temperature control, heated seats, and passenger power seat.

I thought I loved my 1996 Camry. Well, I was wrong. I LOVE my 2004 Camry, although I kept my 1996 and still enjoy driving it, too. But the 2004 is much improved, not only in handling, but comfort, mileage, etc. It is quieter and rides even smoother. I adore this car. Even with the a/c running and at speeds up to 80 mph, I get 36 mpg on the freeway. You just can't beat that. It is 100% reliable and great to take along friends, or the kids and their friends because everyone rides comfortably and happily. Well worth the $$. I'm quite sure that in a few years I will be purchasing Camry #3!

It accellerates nicely from a start but when accellerating from low speed it takes a lot of gas peddle to get it up to freeway speed fast. It is also hard to read the LCD radio display with sun glasses on. Ohther than that it is quite a nice car alot cheeper than a Lexis

This is my first camry and I just love it! I traded in my 2002 aacordLX which was a great car but with a horrible rough ride. The camry rides on the same platform as the Lexus. If your looking for leather and a wood wheel buy the lexus,if you have the cash! The accord was all new for '03 but after a 15 min test drive at Toyota I didn't look at another accord. This car rides and is built superior to anything on the market, and blows honda away. After my test drive I took the car home that day! My father has had american cars all his life and when he drove the camry he went to the dealer and traded in his buick the very next day! mmmm go figure!

Have only had my LE-V6 for a couple of weeks but my last was a Saturn LW300 and you can't compare the two. This is my 5th Toyota and they have all been good, dependable autos. This latest Camry is smooth, powerful enough, quiet, comfortable and very easy to drive. My wife feels the same way about the car. So far no regrets. Dealer was great and worked the Edmunds figures perfectly. A very easy buy since I was well prepared to deal.

I bought my 2004 4cyl automatic Camry LE at the end of March this year. I have already driven it to Altanta from Cleveland, Ohio and it did an excellent job. The Camry handled excellently at highway speeds, it accellerated nicely in the hills of Kentucky and Tennessee, and it got excellent gas mileage. Actually, my in-city gas mileage is even better since my trip. The handling could be a little tighter, but over all I love my car.

I has purchased a suzuki verona at first and not even 200 miles and it died on me the battery died because it was malfunctioning. The best thing i did was swith to a toyota camry smooth and know to be reliable car. I see me still driving it 10 yrs from now!

Got a great deal in Atlanta, GA. New 2004 LE for $16,400 out the door (before taxes and title). Would recommend visiting the Atlanta area if you are looking for the best deal. This is the fourth car we have bought in the Atlanta area. We have always saved at least $1,500 over purchasing the car locally. So far the car has been great, no problems.

My 7th Toyota, this 2004 CamryLE was bought as a primary work car for my wife, replacing a 1992 CamryLE which in twelve years and 180,000 miles has been the LEAST expensive car I have EVER owned for overall maintinance and operating expense. The 1992 remains in the driveway as a dependable second car. Our third car is a 1988 CorollaFX hatchback with 230,000 miles and still going strong. I have been a mechanic for over 35 years (never for a TOYOTA dealership) and can vouch for the dependability and reliability of this superior product!

I do not own a Camry, but drove an LE rental for more than a week. The car had very few miles on it so it wasn't abused. Personally, I don't see what the attraction to Camry is outside of reliability. For myself, I'd trade a little reliability for a dash of excitement. The car is boring, in styling and in performance. It's well built, a comfortable cruiser, good for commutes, but I would never buy one unless I had to. It's just basic transportation at a premium. I think you folks need to shop around and experience some other brands, unless driving is not something you like to do.

Very dependable, and comfortable. Traded a 97 Buick Riviera, and the power is comperable, even with the loss of cubic inches, and cylinders, advances in design more than make up for it. I actually enjoy having 4 doors again, for ease of entry, and not having to move for in-laws that travel with us sometimes. Getting softer, or lazier as we get older. Highly recommend the Camry as a daily driver, and even a road car.

I went into the dealership looking for my first new car as a graduation gift from college. I went in expecting to buy a Scion xA ended up test driving the new 2005 corolla and then was convinced to try the Camry. Long story short, the Camry at below invoice with 0.0% apr was actually only $30 more than the new 2005 Corollas with the 4.9% apr offered. Great car, very roomy and drives like a dream.

Bought the Camry LE w/ABS over the Accord LX. Had both at my house for 48 hours. The Camry has a smoother and quieter ride, more room and looks more expensive. The Accord is a good car and superior to the Altima and Galant, but doesn't stack up to the Camry. The Accord is a little quicker and has sportier handling, but if I wanted that I'd buy a sports car not a 4 door sedan. I guess that's why the Camry is still outselling Accords. While testing the two cars I noticed that the Accord had a cheaper feel to it's interior, the Camry just felt like a more expensive car. My final verdict came after I drove both on the interstate, the Camry won hands down!

Uncomfortable driver seat

I find the driver seat to be very uncomfortable. To the point that I do not like to drive the car. Lumbar support is like two fists in my kidney's and the seat bottom is very hard. Did not notice this in the short test drive at the dealer's. Be sure to sit in this car for 15 + minutes before buying.

Tested a 2004 Toyota Camry LE and a Honda Accord LX. Purchased the Camry. The Camry was more comfortable, had a quieter smoother ride, and felt like a more expensive car. Although the Accord had a sportier feel, it falls short in other areas. The Accord would definetly be my second choice, but overall the Camry is the better choice in my opionion.

We purchased a 2004 Toyota Camry XLE in May of 2004. We have owned the Toyota brand before and were pleased with it reliability. To date, this vehicle has not disappointed us--it drives like a dream--no road noise, superior sound quality in the upgraded stereo system, very comfortable and room, power seats very easy to adjust in many different positions. Gas mileage has been as rated and interior design is very easy to get used to--the radio/cd/cassette controls are within easy reach. Auto temperature control feature is an excellent way to remain comfortable while driving. The direction indicator in the rear view mirror is also very helpful.

I can't believe that this vehicle has the reputation that it does! My vehicle has been in the dealership for 7 separate warranty problems. I have wasted too much of my own time in the dealership waiting for my car to be repaired. I have asked the dealer to make arrangements for appointments or a loaner to accomodate me for excessive problems with my vehicle and they are not willing to help. I will not buy another Toyota product.
