Ok this car has its in and out's. I notice the starting problems its not the fuel pump or starter its the fuel regulator that is cheap needs to be replaced with a aftermarket one by its best to turn the key to the on position for 5 seconds so the pump can prime up but the head gasket did blow once, not sure why had to replace the alternator once and some hoses ,the steering wheel is kinda hard to turn a little and power steering leaks are normal so had the engine replace but I didn't have any problems with that engine but on these cars the its very good on gas maintenance it's not to bad for the size of the car,of course it's not a luxury vehicle but it is very durable

there is nothing flashy about this car, so if you are looking for something more than standard, you should look for something else. My 2004 Nissan Sentra has been a godsend as far as reliability goes though. I bought this car from my parents when I was in college, and I am still driving it today. My parents bought it brand-new in 2004, and although it has had a handful of fixes over the years, it has remained steady. This car now has over 220,000 miles on it, and every time I bring it into the shop for its oil change, I think that they will tell me it's on it's last leg, but they always say quite the opposite. I always get a good report with this car, and they tell me that they think it will keep going for more miles! Good job, Nissan!

My 1.8s Manual Sentra is a quick little QG that I love driving and doing mods to. Stock it will do 0-60 in 7.8 seconds (if you're good at power shifting). It's super good on gas, picks up speed well, a lot of torque in 4th gear. I easily get up to 90mph in 4th gear, doesn't even get loud. The car has 114,000 miles on it too. I haven't had to fix/replace anything on it yet. Clutch might be starting to get a little slippy because I dropped it to do burnouts. If you buy this car from a dealer I can bet you it will be extremely reliable.

nothing but problems.

bought this car from carmax. the stereo skips non stop, had to change the starter three times, dash lights went out, had to have the ignition switch replaced twice. hard to start the car, often time you have to shut the engine off and back on, because the car just wont go above 20, steering is difficult, and i'm 6ft so the car isn't the most roomy, the riding comfort is the only good thing. overall bad car.

I bought my 2004 Sentra with 10 miles on it. I keep up with my regular maintenance (oil, tires, filters etc). The only mechanical issue I have had was a sensor went out. $34 it was fixed (by me). I now have 195k miles on my car and it still drives wonderful! Yes I have some of the simular issues that others have had, my trunk only pops with the key (I know what is wrong but haven't had time to take it appart-simple fix), the back door handles pop out on occassion. But for the price I paid for my car, the MANY road trips from TX to LA and the fact that I have 2 children under 10-I would say I have gotten my monies worth. I still get excellent gas miliage!

I've only had my 2004 nissan sentra since February. I've had nothing but problems with it. I've already had to have a new cat converter put on. Light is on again for a gas cap code, and then last night i hit the on button for cruise....and my horn honked. It honks now whether i turn my cruise on or off. And then a couple times it didn't do it!!! Anyone else having the same problems? Especially the horn honking!!

Bought this car in 06. I bought it with 33K miles on it. It's now at 115K miles. 4 months after my brakes failed. I called the dealership that sold it to me and they told me there's nothing they can do. It did run well for a while. It's now sitting because nobody can figure out what's wrong with it. I was told that I need to replace my piston rings cuz they are shot. My spark plugs keep fouling out so then the car won't start. It might run for a week if I'm lucky with new plugs in it, but then it just won't start. I give up sinking money into it. I will definitely never buy another Nissan again even if it's my only option!

I bought this car with 170K on it. everything is still good, but the starter is hard to start. I have a friend who drives the same car and they have the same problem. I'm not sure if this problem only exist in nissan sentras or other nissan as well. This is my first car so i don't really find it annoying. However, i will NEVER buy this car again and i do not recommend anyone to buy it.

I bought this car new in 2004. I was downgrading quite a bit, so it took some time to get used to it. But other than my 'snobbishness' to it originally, it's been a great little car. I have over 100K miles on it, have driven it from IN to TX and to FL a couple times, plus a 60 mile commute for work everyday. I've had very little trouble with it mechanically. Had an engine issue a couple yrs after I bought it, but that was covered under my warranty. Otherwise only normal things like new tires and brakes. It's been comfortable on long road trips. I wouldn't want to sit in the back for very long but then I again, I don't have to. :)

Love this little car!

Power steering fluid leaks. I have to keep checking and topping up when necessary. Makes a squeaky noise on the driver's side, front end as I drive over bumps (speed bumps). Makes a squealing noise under the hood, mostly on wet days. CD player didn't want to give back a CD. I had to take it to the dealership. They replaced the CD Player but didn't return my CD. The trunk release no longer works from inside the car nor does the remote control open it.

Aww man, i got this car like 2.5 years ago, it had 52,000 when i got it in 07, it currently has 140,000. Its been in 2 accidents, 6000 in damage the first time, and it was just currently totaled from me side swiping a tow truck, and hitting a guard rail. Its a great car, i have had some of the problems listed from everyone else, dealer had to put a fuel pump in it, crank sensor, new window motor and trunk motor, when i bought it the tires were "new" but had bad road noise. dealer replaced those too. Also, the damn belt has been replaced 4 times, still squeaks like crazy, doesnt hit bumps very well, and gas guage doesnt always go to full, if ya turn left fast it will, or about 60MI it goes up

average car with few problems

The battery, head light & ac still original. The clutch was replace @ 110k miles have to tow the car to transmission shop. But i was teaching my daughter the stick shift. Since buying this car nothing but small problems. The interior was put together carelessly. moon roof lining fell down, very generic. I have a starting issue in where it doesn't catch when turning over. it's fine when I start it for the first time during the day, but come back after about an hour and it stalls a few times, before starting. The aluminum wheels are pretty bad. leak air from rims. The moon roof does not close all the way. Some rust near the spoiler, in which one side of spoiler is rotted through trunk. Car drives okay. Wouldn't buy this car again. To many small issues, however nothing big yet. I have about 82,000 for mileage.

Have had gas issues, were it wouldn't take gas, just spit it back out.Bought my car with 22 miles on it, and so far so good. It is a 2004 and has 54,000 miles on it.So far just the gas issues and it does take 2-3 times to start most of the time. It is a reliable car, drove back and forth from Pa to Vegas and it is great. Very good on gas.

I hate this car.

I have had non-stop problems with this car since 3 weeks after I bought it. It has problems starting and has recently quit starting all together. Constantly having to replace spark plugs. It handles poorly in the snow and rain. I have reason to believe that the dealership knew about these problems before I bought it, as seeing how they admitted it when I took it into them. The warranty doesn't cover any of the problems I have had.

Bought it for 10k back in March of 09, when living in Dallas tx I drove it to Louisiana and Oklahoma.... Then turned around and drive it up here to Washington state. I really had no issues, the only issue I'm having with it now is when I start it after its already warmed up I have to try 2x. But a tune up should fix that. Its my 2nd car my first was a Honda civic and it greatly compares, my next purchase will be a Nissan.

Not a bad car overall, I suppose. Live in AZ and got this car at around 55k miles.I was very smart to get the extended warranty on this car from the start. In the 12k miles I have driven it in less than 2 years, it has needed a new strut, 2 new fuel injectors, 2 batteries (I blame the state, not car), lower control arm, power window motor and both the engine and tranny mounts. The inside is also falling apart; the top light console clip broke and I was forced to glue it so it can never be removed. The light glass broke on the inside and rattles like crazy and the trunk clasp wont release half the time. I only paid around $150 for the repairs with my warranty thankfully but it concerns me

Nissan has lost its reliability and will not stand beside the customer. 5 years of listening to a sqeeling serpentine belt, tough to re-start after the car has been drivin... Tough to start when the car is cold and now my headgasket is blown with 59,000 miles on it. Now im finding out that there are Major problems with headgasket failure and Nissan is ignoring it. I've owned 3 nissans over the years and anything over a 2002 is gonna' break your pocketbook. Sorry Nissan but it reminds me of a washed up prize fighter who once stood tall and then took a great fall.

Its got a lot of pick up so for those of you who want something with power, this is your car! Its great that its a four door because you get a powerful sports car without having to pay sports car insurance.

I can't believe I've had my car for five years and am about to pay it off - it looks brand new! Regular oil changes and the car is practically perfect!! From someone who's had to drive junk all her life this was a great and smart first buy. Reliable and perfect for the small streets of Charleston where I live. Good on gas and feels well built while driving, no loose areas except maybe windows and that doesn't improve until you go luxury. It's wonderful!!!

Bought my 2004 Sentra 3 years ago and I love it. No problems whatsoever. Its a no frills car but it is a great commuter and gets excellent gas mileage. Ive seen some of the complaints and I guess I got one of the good ones. CD plays and the car just humms along. My kids never complained about the size of the back seat but they are kids. Very happy with car. Very inexpensive too.

DO NOT BUY NISSAN. This car has been a nightmare for me. I have had countless problems with the car. Manifold had to be replaced twice, O2 sensors replaced numerous times, fuel injector is faulty, spark plugs need constant attention, car shakes uncontrollably, nissan refuses to pay for any of this even though it is supposed to be covered under a parts warranty. car is around 94000 miles now and I'm surprised its lasted even this long. Maximum speed on the highway is around 40 mph.

Car was purchased June 20,2009.52,000 miles. Good deal? wrong! First week: check engine light came on. They replaced my gas cap, sent me on my way. Light came back on! Charged $190.00 because evap system needed fixed. Light came back on! Replaced my gas cap again! Light stayed off.. I got screwed because they replaced something that wasn't broken. Now it's August 24,2009. My cd player is dying.. Cds go in very slow and say error and come back out.. That will soon need replaced. It barely starts. Power steering fluid leaks. Car screammmms everytime I start it.

I bought this car used 2 years ago and have had no problems with it. It's still a cute little car! I do wish the seat material was a little sturdier and my A/C controls don't light up, but these are fairly minor issues. It's a smooth ride and the A/C works great during our hot summers. 2 thumbs up!

Very common problems that will cost you a lot of dough...crank sensor problem, evaporation valve problems... Those are the main 2 I know. other than that I like my sentra, but don't know if i'd buy another nissan based on the massive number of Nissan owners complaining of these two problems, which I call defects.

Why was this car my first ever lemon I've ever owned. Let me just say I had to replace the front left bearing 4 times. Thats right 4 times and Nissan treated me like a you know what. Lets just say the regional manager says she called me 3 times and never did. Be careful buying this cars. You need to fuel the car with 91 octane or better. There is no 40/60 split. The tail rattles after taking the abuse of the NYC streets. Do not replace the tranny fluid. I had to replace the tranny. When everything was working properly, the car was amazing to drive, great performance drives amazing for a FWD car. I will miss the 6-speed tranny. Watch out for Nissans customer service, its bad.

I bought a 04 SPEC-V with only 4,000 miles on it. It has all options except the stereo system upgrade. It was practically brand new. At about 20,000 miles the front struts went out. At 30,000 the rear struts needed to be replaced. At 48,000 the front struts needed to be replaced AGAIN. The build quality of this car is horrible. Mine came with the Brembo brakes. What the hell is NISSAN thinking Brembo brakes but no ABS. They are completely useless in snow or rain. Even cheap cars like KIA offer you ABS. Transmission doesn't always shift properly into reverse. The summer tires it came with do not last. I wish i never bought this car. I'm very disappointed.

I bought a used 04 SE-R Spec V with only 4,000 miles on it. i'm very disappointed with it. The fuel mileage is average. The first gear is too short and sometimes it is a pain to put it in reverse. The ride is too harsh over little bumps and the suspension is bad. I had front struts replaced after 20K miles and rear twice at 25K and 57K miles. Many little irritating problems like the emergency brake light refuses to go off, it comes with stock summer only tires, factory speakers not that great, no ABS on a car at this price point is ridiculous. Even KIA offers ABS on their much cheaper models.

I purchased this car trying to save a little money. Well little did I know it would be no money saver. Common problems I have found are the cd gets stuck and wont come out-makes a clicking noise. I suppose I will have to have that replaced. In addition, I have problems starting the car. Check engine light comes on randomly. Have had sensors replaced. Have only had it for a month. My Sentra now has 64k miles and the only problem I've ever had was the seat material that ripped 4 times and I has it replaced under Nissan's warranty. The back seat is so tight that you should consider offering someone a ride back there. The 30 MPG on the highway is great and it works great for me, since I just use this car on my daily commute. Cheap and reliable transportation.

I already have a new car, but started a new job and drive 43 miles one way. So I bought a 2004 Sentra with 55,800 miles on it to keep the miles off the new one and thought it would be a great car. Well, the mileage is great, 25 mpg city/37 mpg hwy. Great for an automatic. I have had to have quite a few things replaced, as it was a repo. I only paid 5400 for the car, but have had to replace gas tank seal, alternator belt/pulley, crankshaft & camshaft sensors, and had to order dye for the carpet & upholstery (special order), as I am trying to make the car look as nice as possible. I just hope I won't have to replace anything for a while. I did manage to drive about 2000 miles before the sensors were replaced.

I'm usually a Honda consumer, but due to their expensive prices I tried to experiment a little and bought this car because it was recommended to me by a family member. However, I have to tell you guys that this thing has been a pain to own. It is fun to drive, but it has had recalls on catalytic converter, ecu and crank angle sensor. The dealer has also given me a hard time about these recalls. This car also makes the most annoying ticking sound after turning it off. I ended up trading it In for a Honda civic Si. Do it right the first time and stay away from Nissan.

What can I say, it's a nice ride. I live in NYC and I commute about 100 miles a day and this car is great on the highway but not so much on fuel. Little disappointed there. Fun to drive on the highway, not so much on the NYC streets. The potholes are a killer. No time to enjoy the ride. Too much shifting only to slam on the brakes for red lights and taxi cabs. Takes a little time to warm up. I love the shifting but can be hard at times. Great to drive in the mountains. Stiff ride in the city streets and sometimes to highway. Girlfriend complains of the stiff ride but I don't mind. Look for a car that gets better gas mileage. Look at the SE 2.0 liter. Better ride and gas mileage.

I bought this car new because it had been recommended to me as a reliable car. Well, those who told me that were wrong. I hate this car. It has had problems from the moment I bought it. The catalytic converter has been replaced 5 times! They have replaced the belts over and over because there is a squeaking sound that can't be figured out. Yesterday it completely died and a costly repair is needed. I wish I could throw this car away!! There is no room in the backseat or the trunk. I can barely fit a car seat in it. I did not like getting stranded on the side of the road with my 7 month old on a 100 degree day. I will never buy a Nissan again.

Vehicle was purchased with 24K miles and has needed serpentine belt replacement, has had 2 recalls all new exhaust and catalytic converter be sure and get fixed on recall, needed ECM reprogram on recall. BAD PROBLEM had fuel shoot out the nozzle, this is the Vent Control Valve needs to be replaced. Mine also has the starting issues and had to modify battery terminals. Also will not eject CD and there has been an onset of dropped mileage since exhaust replacement. Now car has 69,000, trying to take care of it so it will drive 200K, we will see. The car is okay I guess, please heed these issues.

I way overpaid for a 2004 in 2005, my fault for being in a hurry. Car only had 10500 on it. Have replaced the serpentine belt and both drive belts, the front brakes. The interior looked good when I bought it but the old stains the dealer tried to hide came back - like did they spill a gallon of coffee in the back seat or what? I hold my breath every time I drive it and cannot wait to get a new car.

I didn't spend any money on the car besides the usual oil changes and brakes. I only had one problem wiht the car during the period I owned it. When the car was started cold in the morning, it would start on the first try but if I was to start the car later on, it would take any where from 2-3 tries for it to start. This problem started within a year of owning the car and worsened as time passed. This was not a big deal because all I had to do was turn the key again and the card would start.

I have extended warranty so Nissan retuned the money I paid for the repair. I also had to have the radio replaced- there was a CD stuck in it and the dealership I deal with could not repair it so they replaced it- go figure. The gas mileage is great- this is my 2nd Nissan and wouldn't purchase anything else. I'm having a problem with the brake light coming on at the moment and will take the car in for a check up. May be trading off for a newer model Nissan. I hate to do it because I love this car !!!

I got this before I had a baby, and now his car seat barely fits in the back. The passenger has to sit in the dashboard (which is very dangerous). I don't find this car safe at all. A couple of times the car would just not start after it would sit in the garage for a week or so after a vacation. There was a constant squeaky noise which the Nissan service guys could not figure out, then later on it turned out that the crank shaft (or whatever) was loose. Had to replace belt a few times. I was very disappointed because of these problems, because they all happened within the first 33,000 miles of usage of the car.

My sentra likes me...sometimes. Other times the car starts, then rumbles, then all the lights on the dash come on and it turns off. Three mechanics tell me nothing is wrong. It only does it when it feels like it and I don't seem to be able to find any correlation between the times it chooses to do that and the times it doesn't. I know two other people who own the same style and model year nissan and one who owns a 2006 Sentra 1.8s...and all of our cars do the exact same thing. Time for a recall?? Other than that and all the road noise, I love it...really, I do.

Recently turned in my Spec-V for an Altima. The Spec-V was a very fun car to drive and was a performance bargain that could not be beat for a few years. Finicky handling, but fairly high limits once you were aquainted with the car. Good strong motor, brakes, and nice steering. The only real weak links were the shifter (sometimes) and torque steer. After a while though you do become accustomed to these quirks and the car never lost its charm. The car felt solid all the time I had it. The only big complaint I had was the ease with which the paint got chipped in the front. My other big complaint was that Nissan did not see this as normal wear and tried (but failed) to charge me for it.

Handles really good, but ABS is not standard nor is side air bags. Which really isnt a big deal unless you are really concerned about safety and if thats the case i dont suggest a tuner car like the SE/R models. As far as the body kit, Ive found 6 or 7 of them on eBay and some of the performance sites. Honestly, if you want to REALLY know what people think about this car, do not go off of these people. After about 14 months of owning one, its still a fun car. Positives,... powerful engine, agile reflexes, sporty, economical, relatively good mpg's, reliable. Negatives, and a BIG negative for me, the 6 speed transmission is god awful to shift. Rarely will it slide effortlessly into gear. While not cramped, not as roomy as a Focus sedan by comparison. Ride is harsh, way too stiff for daily commuting. Yes, I know, should have gotten a lesser trim level. Other negatives, Rockford Fosgate stereo package not worth its cost. Also, intermittant wipers not adjustable enough. Another negative, A/C isn't quite as cold as a Ford Focus either. All in all, like the car for what I paid for it.

First, this car was quite inexpensive. A great value, but lacking in some areas. I don't think it compares to luxury sport vehicles, but it finds its way to the top of the pack for vehicles under $17k. The 2.5L motor is so torquey you can pull with most v6's off the line (however it's not so tough on the highway). Handling is for tuned for driving fanatics, with excellent response and minimal roll, but the 17 in. wheels and hardened bushings relay every bump on longer drives. Adequate interior - love the seats, but the plastics scratch up quite easily. Exterior was "updated" for '04 to match the base model... Now there's no escaping the ugly "bucktooth"!

Either way, I could've had my Buick repaired for the price of 1-3 loan payments instead of paying $320/month for an unreliable piece of junk that I had to tow twice, stall on the freeway and lose a job over the refusal to provide loaner cars. I had to bring in the car 8 times within the last year for ECU, brakes and transmission issues, and I sincerely thank the BBB for helping me win a Lemon Law settlement!

after owning a corolla and civic both 1.8's I test drove the 2004 sentra 1.8. not much difference between all of them. Then I test drove the sentra 2.5 what a pleasure This car really moves. tons of power. A pleasure to drive. I bought it last June and so far no problems For the price I paid it was a bargain I couldn't pass up

Within the first year I owned this car, the drive belt had to be replaced and was on back order which tells me this is a common problem with this vehicle, I had to have the cd player replaced because it wouldn't eject my cd, and I have had problems with it starting. The dealership told me it had a "10 second start". That does explain why it tries to start and dies. I will never buy a Nissan again. I encourage all others to take my experience into consideration.

So Far the only probs in having is finding aftermarket parts that really fit. got a b&m shifter and had to make some mods to get it to fit. Also got a piggy back computer from Stillen and could not get it to work right, but they helped me with everything and gave me a refund for the chip. the car has alot of power to spare. if you like to play on the streets then this car is for you.

I LOVE everything about my new 2004 Nissan Sentra 1.8S. I shopped on line for a month, comparing Honda, Toyota, Hyundai compact sedans. The Sentra was my last choice, until I saw it and test drove it. I knew this was MY car, and it moved all the way up to #1 spot. I also thought it was at least $10K more than it's actual price tag!I love the great front and rear design, sleek and elegant, the interior dash is well laid out with easy access to all controls, the exterior/interior workmanship, fabrics and construction is superior to it's competitors. This car has great zip, steering control and it really hugs curves on winding roads. The doors slam shut with the sound of a really expensive car.

I drove a 1994 Sentra for 200,000 miles-great car, so I purchased another. My 2004 model seems like the same car. It must have been built by the same people. I've had it in the shop twice. Once to replace steering system due to a leak and the belts are loud (which are not covered under warranty). A speaker is busted and the fuel mileage is low (32mpg).

No complaints. Still get over 30mpg combined highway and city. No rattles or repairs. Tires are not good in the snow - in fact look to replace them for Winter driving. Other than that I like the car and would consider Nissan when I buy a mid sized car in a few years. Nice trunk.

I bought my New Nissan Sentra with saving money in mind. I traded a Dodge Ram V8 for this and am totally sagisfied. Not Apples to Apples but then again I was looking for fuel economy with some features I could compare to my fully loaded truck. I would say that the value for the money is well worth it. I get 33 MPG average since I bought it 2 weeks ago. I've saved $154 in 2 weeks driving this over my truck. Let's face it this car is no BMW but Nissan is not advertising it to be so I think anyone looking for economy would do well to look at this car. I commute 100 miles a day so this for me was a good decision. GOOD JOB NISSAN.

I've been driving my Sentra SpecV for close to 6 months now, after researching at Edmunds, I was surprised some of the things that Edmunds/dealers don't mention: 1. The SpecV comes standard with 22lb 17" rims, very heavy rims with equally heavy tires that you cannot put snow chains on, due to their size in the wheel well. On top of that, the Contisport tires are LOUSY in wet weather. 2. You will not be able to put mud guards on your car-the dealers mentioned that Nissan was making them- that was a lie. The side/wheel molding does not allow mud guards to be installed behind the front tires-so mud/gr gets all over the doors. Inexcuseable.

I owned a 1994 Sentra, drove it 10 years, great car. Bought a new 2004 Sentra1.8s. The quality has decreased in this model compared to my old Sentra. I've had to add power steering fluid since it was new and after switching from defrost to vent the AC stays on. Dealership is replacing part for power steering problem and they say Nissan is aware of the AC problem and haven't come up with a solution yet. In the meantime I am burning extra fuel. the AC will cut off after restarting the engine. I expected a little more fuel mileage but I am happy with the power and automatic transmission.

Just bought the car on 9/18/04 and got a super deal. I checked out the Civic and Corolla. What is all the hype about the Civic and Corolla? Yes, they are both great reliable cars but so is the Sentra. Why does the Sentra always get the "bum" reviews. I read that Consumer Report does not "Recommend" the Sentra because it is below average in reliability. I find that very hard to believe. Where are they getting this information? A couple of my friends have Sentra's with nearly 100,000 miles on them and they have had little or no problems with them. The build quality on my Sentra is top notch, comparable to that of a Civic if possibly not better.

Originally we wanted a Manual, but couldn't find one in upstate NY. Went with an Automatic, sunroof, ABS, side ABs, Road Trip Group and spoiler. For all these features we paid what a stripped down Civic or Corolla would cost, due to the $2500 rebate. Nissan also gave us a 4.25% loan. Quality is up with Toyota and Civic, don't know what Edmunds is looking at. It's got adequate power and is stylish. The interior is functional and well laid out. The back seat is plenty big, again what is Edmunds looking at - I'm 6' with long legs. Trunk is a good size and the fold down seats are welcome. Not sure on gas mileage yet, only have about 500 miles on it.

I bought my 04 Sentra 2.5s two weeks ago, and so far, so good. The car's engine is wonderful, quick and responsive. The back seats, however, leave much to be desired as they are VERY cramped. The fuel ecnomy could be better (I'm averaging about 23 mi between city and highway driving). I test drove the Civic while shopping around and although a very solidly built car, I felt its engine was a bit boring and not very powerful at all. So, all in all, my Sentra is turning out to be a pretty good buy.

I like this small car. It is surprisingly powerful and gets up to highway speeds quickly enough. The front is roomy enough. I'm 6'2" 200lbs and it is comfortable to ride it. My only disappointment has been with the gas mileage. I drive a lot of highway and the best I've ever done is slightly over 30. Usual is 28 or so I think the mileage suffers more than most cars at speeds above 55 and for cold temperatures. The AC is also good for a small car. Overall it was a good purchase. I've never owned a Toyota or Honda, so I don't know if they would be worth the extra money. For me, I can't imagine they would.

When I contacted Nissan to get a new steering wheel, they told me that I was driving with rings in my hand, which I don't. - The carpet is worn out. Come on, it's my fourth car and I never saw that before. - The paint is definately too fragile.

I saw the specs and the total package and I was really impressed. I thought, "wow, this car must be really fun." At the time I was driving a gas guzzling Dodge Durango. It was costing me at least $15 a day in gas just to do my everyday things. I only had it for about 4 months when I decided that maybe it just wasn't for me. I stopped down at my local Nissan dealership and picked up a black Spec V as fast as I could.I absolutly love it now. Very overlooked car.

This is my first new car, and im so glad i went with the SE-R its quick, fun to drive, great handling, i got the audio fanatic pacakage and that is so worth it, the sound in that car is so awesome, and the 2.5L engine is like a mini V6. Great HP and Torque make acceleration fun and easy. The gas mileage is ok, it runs about average with other cars. The styling on the Sentra is best when a spoiler is added to the package. The 1.8 liter engine is peppy, but requires high rpm (~4200 rpm) on large hills when the cruise control is on. I drive approx 700 miles each weekend and the comfort level is acceptable. The interior is roomy and the trunk space is more than adequate. I February (mostly highway) and usually get about 30 mpg vs the 35 that is advertised on the window sticker.

After only two months, one of the seams on the driver's seat has split. The dealer is ordering a new seat bottom to replace it, though. I am getting about 34 MPG in mainly highway driving. I was hoping for more with gas prices around $2 and rising! The front cup holders are only good for very short cups. Many of the under frame and engine components are rusting badly.

I think that the car is one of the best on the market for the price. It gives you so much for the money 17" alloys, 175hp, sport tuned suspension, and a 6 speed transmission. You can't believe what it can do for you. Check it out for yourself.

I wouldn't buy another one

My Nissan SE-R has not been a good car at all. I baught it in April 2002 as a graduation present. I now have a 7 1/2 page list from the dealership of things that have had to be done to it. New Starter, new censors, new computer....you name it, it's been replaced. I wouldn't recommend this car to anyone!!

At current prices nothing comes close to this one if sporty versatile package is what you are looking for. Here's the big picture: Go-Kart style fun, seats five(if needed), good trunk space, high 20's for mixed driving MPG, econobox plastics and build quality. Reliable. Cheap. Big After market improovemnt potential, esp handling. For more info visit www.b15sentra.net. See my car and mods write ups here: http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/392 332

I love the mpg that im getting with this car almos 29 mpg, and is pretty cool this is my first new car and it does pretty good. Does't compare to the power of a V-6 when catching up to speed of focus on a street, but when up to speed it really goes. Make shure you look for any ditails that might be wrong with the interior like stanis under carpet, or loose details inside

This car is just what I was Looking for. Good, no, great gas milage, stylish, and inexspensive. What suprised me most was this car at a little over 12,000 felt like a 20,000+ from the drivers seat. With the road trip package (leather wraped stering wheel, and upgraded stereo), and the exstreamly comfortable seats I could just sit in it all day. My pevious car was an old IROC camaro, so I won't compare performance, but again the gas milage, and the projected reliability (i have only had the car a week) more than make up for that.

My new Sentra 1.8s came with automatic transmission, CD, keyless entry, power locks and windows all for less than 11,000 dollars. The interior has many storage compartments not available on most cars in this price range. Plus they even put fabric on the interior wall of the doors, not hard plastic like most cars in this price range. Engine is perfectly matched with the automatic transmission. Nissan did their homework on this unit - for a base car! I gave this car a 10 based on years of experience of owning and driving inexpensive new cars.

Just purchased. Enjoy the 'peppy' engine. There is more engine noise than I would expect for a new car, even a small car. The ride is a bit more stiff than I had anticpated. On the highway it 'sails' along effortlessly (except for the engine noise) Has pretty good low end torque, for fast starts. All in all it is a good value for the money

The stereo is great and the sound is quality. The only problem I have had is a crack in the A/C compartment that took a week to repair and replace. I love my new car and would reccomend it!

I test drove the vehicle before I purchased it, so I am not totally surprised at some of the less than stellar highlights. However, I am shocked that the gas milage is not measuring up the estimated EPA rating- the interior part are very cheap look, such as the dash storage compartment and the overhead eyeglass storage-I have the upgraded sound system, it great. Its also two inches less interior compartment space than the Honda Civic-that makes it tought for almost anyone to ride in the backseat- the tilt steering column barely tilt at all-and worst of the complaints, the headlights are easily stolen

Runs pretty strong for a 4 cyl. However, this thing has horrible rattle problems, every area of car has rattles. Had dash removed once, temp. fixed worst rattle that clicked nonstop from Pittsburgh to Lexington,KY. Several recalls wasting my time going to dealership. Calling Nissan Monday to try to get out of junk car. Paint smears when waxed like my previous 01 Sentra (yes, I know how to wax a car, only Sentras have done this to me and I use best polishes.) Cracked brake pad make horrible barking noise after only 7000 miles. Could go on for days.

Be wary when you read these positive reviews that most of these people have not put many miles on their car. I have enough miles on my car to see it slowly unravel and to experience the lack of support and shadiness from Nissan service. The deterioration of the suspension and ride was astounding. Nissan service refused to fix it under warranty and then tried to swindle me into making other unnecessary repairs. So unless you plan on spending $$ on aftermarket adjustments steer clear of Nissan. FYI: The Sentra/SE-R is assembled in Mexico. Also Nissan is not the company it used to be since it was taken over by the french owned Renault.

Passenger air bag vibrates sounds like blown speaker, been replaced w/new insulators, still no change maybe even worse. Wind noise from door is terrible. Long trip are not even an option take the truck, better ride and only sacriface about 8 to 10 mile to the gallon. Remember were talking v-8 compared to 4-cyl HMMM. Would take the 80 Honda Civic that I traded for it back anyday 40 mpg, and better/funner to drive!!! By the way only getting about 27 mpg on hwy!

Thes sentra is a very reliable, good car. I have had it for about two months and I drive it a lot because I like my new car. About a week ago, I crashed it though because the brakes (which aren't ABS) skidded in the rain. My fault, but I hope when it is fixed (with a new bumper, hood, headlights, and radiator) that it is still as good as when it went in the shop.

Overall the Sentra is a very good car. It's not far behind the Civic or Corolla in terms of reliability and quality; not as refined but not far behind. Perhaps the best value amongst the three. I purchased with the $2500 rebate so it was defenitely a great buy for around $12K dlls for the 1.8S w/ carpets, microfilter & splash guards and Auto tranny. About $3500 less than the Civic and Corolla.

I have 1600 miles and it gets about 20mpg at best, not the 28 advertised. The inside is scratched up from who know what and when the dealer washed it for me water got under the clear coat in a few places. The interior has too many colors; gray, black and beige which I don't think match well. No rear leg room, but I don't sit in the rear.

The 6 speed is a bit clunky and torque steer an eye opener. For a compact car of this descent, a very good handling vehicle, with guts (out of the box) and a sweet used price to boot too! Tires will definitely need an upgrade for winters in Alberta Canada. After the winter tires cold winter drives will be fine with heated mirrors and the 9 spkr Rockford Fosgate. I bought this car with the intention of driving a sleeper and got oodles more in performance bonuses and every interior amenity I will ever need. A beautiful power band exists, even if the shifter feels a bit clunky.

I've wanted this car since it first came out in 2002. Personally, I like the older body style a little better but the interior on the 2004+ is a lot nicer and is just more pleasing to the eye. Premium stereo isn't very premium. VERY quick car. LSD keeps it in line. 6- spd is quite fun. Stock tires lack grip in snow. Handles corners like a dream, minus the slight stiffness over some bumps. Beats most cars in it's class.

I love my Spec-V! Though I have left it unmodified so far, it is still great to drive. The huge engine has plenty of low-end grunt, making passing a breeze even without a downshift. The suspension and Brembo brake system are top notch, especially considering the price. I paid 16,980 USD! All in all, for the money there is no car that can compete.

My first test drive of the 2004 Spec V left me with the feeling of a rocket on wheels. Also mine is a wild color (Volcanic Orange) and gets head turns everywhere I go. So much power and so fun to drive, I wait only to get into the drivers seat again. The stereo is awsome (300 watt rockford fosgate with subwoofer). Recently had to take it in to the dealer to reset the dreaded "Service engine soon light" caused by starting the car with the battery disconnected. This is not a good first new car to purchase. The minute I drove it off the lot things started to fall apart inside. Foam shooting from the heat vents. Weird odors from the melted adhesive in the dash. Heater not blowing hot air out of driver's side vent (but it can blow cold air just fine!) New strut replacement. Speakers replaced several times--crackle/pop noises. New exhaust replacement. Cheap plastic door panels. I think the list could keep going....

I used to drive a more powerful midsize Honda Accord sedan, so comparing that with the Nissan Sentra 1.8s may be "comparing apples to oranges." But I like the Sentra's classy exterior design and comfy seats. And the interior storage spaces like the roof-mounted sunglasses holder and built-in dashboard storage are great touches. It's a good value for the money...but if you can afford a better trim, something larger, or a car with more "oomph" underneath the hood, you maybe should look elsewhere....

Bought the car new, so far i'm pleased. Haven't had any problems with it unlike my previous 2 cars. Powerful lil car for a V4. The 180watt sound system is amazing. For a small car though, it really eats up gas. For an automatic u can really tell when it is switching gears cause u feel it big time. It'll shake or jerk itself which is a real annoyance. Overall though, it's a reliable little car. Needs some improvements though.

Previous vehicle was a 99 Escort. After a test drive of 04 Corolla and 04 Sentra, I went home with the Sentra. $2500 rebate and $2000 for trade = $11,000 purchase price. More things came standard on the Nissan versus the Corolla. The standard warranty time length is great, more solid ride and its easy to finance on your own.Im only a 20 yr old college student and this car's wonderful for the tight parking spots on campus and easy to zoom around in. It may not be as stylish outside as the Corolla, but interior wise its unbelievable. 6 places to store items, plus pockets on the doors. I WOULD SUGGEST IT TO ANYONE ON A BUDGET! Great car for the $$$

STEARING IS NOT VERY SMOOTH. SEATS ARE NOT VERY COMFORTABLE AN ARM REST WOULD BE HELPFUL. CENTRAL CONSOLE IS VERYSMALL SO YOUR ARE UNABLE TO USE IT AS AN ARMREST. I FEEL LIKE I AM IN AN UNCOMFORTABLE BED WITH NO POSITION THAT IS COMFORTABLE. FREEWAY DRIVING IS QUIT NOISEY,NOT AS QUIET AS MY SISTERS COROLLA.

Fabulous engine. I never have to shift out of 6th even on NY17 or hilly Taconic to Albany. Great gas mileage considering the motor size. I get 32- 33mpg on the highway all the time. Only like 24-25 in city tho.Base radio sucks unless you unhook the really cheap 6.5" sub on the rear deck, which introduces more distortion than bass. Trust me, its able to play louder and clearer without it hooked up. Shifter is really notchy, and clutch is very long throw. Ride is also very harsh, and already i'm hearing rattles throughout the cabin. Seats are great and supportive.

The 2004 Nissan Sentra 1.8 S is everything a small family needs. It has a extremely stylish exterior and a roomy and modern interior. For the price it is the best buy. Also, Nissan has one of the highest resale values. It far surpasses it's competitors with standard features and price. If you are looking for a foreign car at great price I suggest checking out your local Nissan Dealer and taking a Sentra 1.8S for a ride. You will be impressed!!!

I bought the car in on Jan 16, 2004 and traded in a 2002 SE-R Automatic. I took all my mods off the 02 and had them put on the 04 at delivery. (Stillen Cat back exhaust, Nismo CAI, Nismo Header, Nismo Cams) The mods are endless on the web. The car is now a few steps ahead of the SI or such. You really do not need to mod the car if you want to go fast but it sure is fun to do.

I wanted to have a bigger engine compact car with loaded options and found Sentra as my choice. It had almost everything what I wanted. Don't we want to pass big truck soon as we can when it splashes all the dirty water or sludges ? I do and , boy..., my new Sntra did a great job when I press my pedal to pass ugly big truck in a second. I couldn't do that with my old car. My only complaint is some cheapy looking interior and poor ergonomic designe such as rear seat, audio control. The performance of 2.5 einge is great, less driving and road noise than other competetors.

I loved the size of the Car (easy to park) could use tighter turn radius for it's size. Ride, Performance and Quietness are perfect, although using the passing gear would create a slight burnt rubber smell and not a great sounding stereo system. Overall, though, I liked the car and I'm thinking about buying one.

This was my 4th Nissan (1 Sentra and 2 Altimas). I made the mistake of buying the '02 Altima when it 1st came out, and had nothing but problems. While at the dealership (where it had been towed again) I saw the Sentra. The interior was far nicer - though smaller, had the same engine, and the price was right. Bought it on the spot. While not as attention getting as the Altima, it feels much more solidly built, and has standard options (ABS, side-impact SRS, trip computer) that I have never had. Very underrated car!

I chose this Sentra after having driven the 1.8S, the 2.5S, and the Altima 2.5S. The Altima, while nice, was too big and "family car." The 1.8S and 2.5S Sentras were too dull, despite the facelift (I just came from a 98 Mitsubishi Mirage…so I know from slow.) This SE-R was just right. The Altima’s torque-rich, responsive engine, the sporty size, and the solid Nissan build quality. Plus the updated look, while bizarre on the "normal" Sentras, works like a charm on the SE-R models (I think it has to do with the paint choices.) It’s fast…it’s loaded (sunroof/ABS/160-Watt stereo), and it’s a Volcanic Orange masterpiece!

Ok, this is my second Sentra and this car sets the standard for the others in many areas. I test drove the Civic and the Corolla, and both of these models were more expensive, but had different weaknesses. The Corolla lacked the zip that I was looking for, the the Civic suspension was even worse than the Sentra in my opinion. The '04 transmission is smoother than in previous years. All in all, a very great car for the price, and a fun driving experience. Drive it yourself and you'll see...

I have never had such poor service from a company and have never had such a poorly manufactured car. I have had to car in the shop 5 times since I leased it in August 2003. I am very displeased with Nissans quality of manufacturing and customer service. When I needed their help they turned their backs on me. I will never purchase another Nissan as long as I live. I will recommend to everyone to steer clear of Nissan. Nissan is not the company it once was. If you need any help whatsoever with your vehicle after you signed the papers, you’re going to be in for a big surprise.

0-60 in about 9.3 seconds, even though it pulls to the right a little, its a nice fast car, for the motor and the build. The suspension is good, even though it is a little bumpy on the highway. Its a good car overall, with the power options, except the seat, but it does have the adjusting knob for the driver seats, that are buckets seats, a plus for those who have bad backs

This is a car that can run with an RSX at Civic dx prices. Build quality is very good. Styling is understated (read not all riced out) compared to it's class. The power/weight ratio, suspension upgrades, and good seats make driving something to look foreward to. Steering is precise with good feedback, brakes are more fade resistant than most and easy to modulate at the limit. I appreciate the limited slip diff., especially with all that torque. From a performance standpoint it is among the better sport compacts, but it lacks the refined and intuitive driving feel of some Mazda and Honda products, but then it costs a lot less.

I bought my Spec V about three weeks ago and I have no regrets. Well maybe just one, shifting the gears feels really crunchy. Other than a little getting used to shifting, this car is one bad MOFO. The interior is roomier than any civic, Integra, or lancer that ive been in and the ride is smooth, even for the SPEC V suspension. If you do your home work you will see that that this bad boy offer more bang for your buck when comparing to the VW GTI, the Civic Si, the Neon SRT4 and the Focus SVT. Tests drive them all and make your own decision, but for the budget conscious sport car enthusiast the Spec V is definitely the way to go.

Going from a 1986 Camaro to a 2004 Sentra is a big jump. The car is very quiet and feels pretty solid, light years beyond the creaky, rattly camaro. Definitely needs more rear leg room. I also wish there was a choice of wheels with this model, they only come with the 2.5 models. Otherwise I like my car alot, and look forward to driving it for a long time.

What most of the econosport reviews say about the spec-v is generally on target (among the fastest but not as refined)...BUT...what they gloss over is that they are comparing the spec-v to cars costing thousands more.(Mine cost $14,500). Yes, it's a bit crude compared to a Mazdaspeed or Si, but compared cars with the same price such as a mid level corolla, mx3,or civic, the level of performance and FUN is outrageously better.

I myself am a proud owner of a 2004 Nissan Sentra SE-R Auto. The car is unbelievably fast for my taste. Not knowing how to drive a manual didn't prevent my purchase from the Spec-V model but the auto version is much more at ease due to its convenience of gas and brake go. The interior design is useful, not too sporty yet not too dull either. Interior controls seem to be right or close to the right places for convenience. Rear-seat room could definitely have been improved. The only drawbacks I found w/this car was exterior front design, rear-seat room, and it being a four-door vehicle. Would've preferred the vehicle to be a coupe.

My fault I should have asked. But i though all cars were coming with cruse control these days. Oh well. I know for the future. Otherwise I like the Car. I have no real need for a lot of Passenger space so the back seat is not a problem. But I could have passengers a little cramped. Seems to be good on gas and that is a very important point for me.

The sentra ser-spec v offers sports car performance and handling at an economy car price. It has very responsive acceleration and handles very well with its sports tuned suspension and helical limited slip differential. It is incredibly fun to drive. If you are into sport compact cars you will not be dissapointed.

The car is certainly not the fastest or best compact performance sedan out there, but for the price it is hard to beat. Shifter feels good, but can catch you off guard going from 4th to 5th. Power is great for a naturally aspirated 4 cyl. Brakes are powerful and linear. Great price! Lease for $156/month with $3,000 down and 15k miles a year. Fun to drive fast.

the nissan sentra se-r is an all around well built car. yes it could use a little style flair in the interior design, but all buttons and nobs are in reach and plain view. it is quick and light on its feet and easy to handle.all this and you get a rockin sound system when you upgrade to the rockford fosgate audio system.

Kick-ass acceleration and solid handling with some wonky oversteer at the limits. But I think the bad news outweighs the good. A chintzy interior - in a $20,000 car I had to tape padding to the hard plastique armrests. Generally cheap feel. And just terrible gas mileage for a four in a light sedan. At 17 or 18 mpg around town I for one would trade some zip for more mileage. With the small gas tank and a nervous computer the car can be begging for gas in less than 200 miles, way too often for me.

I bought the 2004 Nissan Sentra with the Road Trip package (leather steering wheel, 7-speaker stereo system and cruise control) because I also have a 1992 Nissan Sentra sedan that has been the best car since it was new. The 2004 Sentra drives heavier (a big plus) because it has larger tires and weighs more. Handling is tight and responsive, and the engine is very peppy. Overall quality is excellent and I am very happy with this purchase.

I only buy sentras!

My first Nissan was a 1992 Sentra (XE) and it lasted me a good 11 years so its no surprise that when it finally said enough is enough and laid down to rest, that my next choice would definately be another Nissan. I finally decided on another Sentra (after looking at the Altima) with the additional safety features ABS and side air bags - AND the upgraded sound system. This car is GREAT and I absolutely LOVE IT.

While looking for a new car I knew that I wanted something that would move when I wanted it to. After looking for countless hours of searching through all of the auto makers in the +/-$15K range it came down to the final three. The Honda Civic was a front runner. I was impressed with the handling Honda boasts, however I see so many Civic's on the road I want to barf. The Nissan Sentra took the prize at the end. From the moment I drove the car I knew it was a 4 cylonder engine, but with the soul of a V6. I am not one for racing at every stop light, but I do enjoy driving a car with good preformance and handling and the Sentra does that well.

Agreed. Sleeper!

Nice to research this car and not find many reviews. Altima and Maxima are hogging all the attention. Fortunately, for small wallet buyers like myself, Sentra provides a viable alternative to the high-priced lines. Sensors are my concern, only suggestion to get warranty above the basic powertrain if keeping the car more than four or five years.

This car has very good engine performance, although the mileage is not spectacular. The tilt steering is a joke; I am 6'2", and I have to push the seat all the way back to drive; not much legroom up front. Seats are comfortable, the sound system is good; the steering could use improvement at highway speeds (seems like an effort to steer straight; could be the Bridgstone tires). Excellent standard equipment for the price (ABS, 4 wheel disc brake, front and side airbags). Great all around car.

I went from 1988 Nissan 5-speed down to earth car to 2004 automatic heaven. The Sentra has grown up. I wanted a car that was a little bigger than the one I had but was as great as the old one. Looks like Nissan knew exactly what I wanted. I can't beleive this is a Sentra. I hated giving up my old car, but I am very pleased with my choice. I love my 10 day old car.

This Car is well worth it.

The car is very good in 99% of all the areas. I had never even considered a Nissan because of past ones that I have seen or ridden in. I was looking for a Sport Compact and decided to stop into my local Nissan dealership just out of curiousity. I looked at the Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V and immediately started to like what I saw. I then proceeded to take it on a test drive, and I was completely sold. It is extremely fun to drive and has alot of potential for sport compact enthusiasts and aftermarket products.

I purchased this little gem on 2 Aug 03. It came equipped from the factory with the Spec V brake package, sunroof, mats, and micro filter. The dealer added a NISMO performance package, which consisted of a header exhaust system, further suspension modification which included the lowering of the body .20”, decals, and window tint. In a word the driving experience is exhilarating. This machine handles like a go cart. Body lean is undetectable. Acceleration is simply amazing. Plenty of torque in all gears, including sixth. Gas mileage for city and highway has been 24.5mpg on premium fuel, 22.4mpg on regular. All this for right around $20K!

After looking at many cars (including the SVT Focus, Neon SRT-4, and Nissan Altima, I decided on the one I had my eye on from the beginning. Performance is great, you can launch from 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and still has good pickup in 4th,5th,&6th. Comfort is nice, I like the bucket seats, some might not. Fuel economy - AC blasting, I got 31 MPG going 450 miles.

I just bought this car, and I am thrilled with it. I am surprised how well it drives considering the price. I test drove the corolla LE before purchasing the sentra, and it was horrible. It drive's like a cow compared to the nissan. The sentra is about 2k cheaper than the toyota. The only problem I have had with the car is the check engine light came one at 80 miles. The dealer says it's nothing. It does not even give a code when they hook it up to the computer.

Very nimble driving ability (there's a reason for all those gears.) Good pickup from a dead stop; passing ability is superb. On clean, level pavement the handling is nice and tight. On uneven pavement the can go airborne very easily. The front end is very light. I'm not looking forward to driving in the snow. There is not enough traction to keep even a modest start from making the tires squeal. The premium sound package is tight and well tuned. It is not super-audiophile quality, but it is mostly clear and has a good range. The back seat is _very_ cramped - there is hardly any leg room.

I JUST PURCHASED THE 2004 SENTRA 2.5 S AND AFTER A TRIP TO FLORIDA, I FOUND THE FLAWS. 1.) THE SEATS ARE UNCOMFORTABLE AFTER A COUPLE OF HOURS; SERIOUSLY NEED LUMBAR SUPPORT. 2.) THE GAS MILEAGE IS SHAKY. 3.) THE HANDLING SHOULD BE TIGHTER AT HIGHER SPEEDS. 4.) THE STEREO SYSTEM: NEED SPEAKERS THAT CAN ACTUALLY HANDLE THE OUTPUT OF THE DECK. ALTHOUGH HEADS WERE ROCKING TO MY SOUNDS! 5.) FOG LIGHTS SHOULD BE STANDARD ON THE 2.5 S MODELS THAT HAVE THE REAR SPOILER AND SUNROOF, I MEAN, WHY STOP THERE? 6.) OH YEAH, THE TIRES NEED TO BE A TAD BIT WIDER CONSIDERING THE CAR HAS SOME KICK TO IT.

Extremely small tight backseat Nissan should seriously consider reverting to the older sentra design which had a wider body and a better decent back seat. The car also has a poor ride quality at 60 hitting a highway bump bounced my head into the cieling of the car.... Aside from that the car has decent fuel economy and features though the accord would be a better buy for less...
