I just turned over 302,000 miles on my good friend. It has never let me down or left me stranded in 12 yrs of service (2 miles on odometer when purchased). Starts every time, runs almost like brand new, fast and reliable (5 speed manual). Yeah I take care of it (oil change every 4000 miles "No matter what"). Everything else has been routine maintenance brakes, rotors, tune up (once a year) it costs less than $20 for spark plugs (get NGK's G-power) an air filter and a PCV valve. I replace the spark plug wires every other year at a cost of about $45. Follow the manual (especially on the timing belt) this is an interrupt engine and you will kill it (dead) if that belt breaks. The book says 60,000 I do mine at 75,000 (but I drive about 27,000 a year). The front struts are original (this has been a problem issue with others), I replaced the back shocks at about 190,000 but I do haul stuff sometimes (lots of room to haul stuff for a car). The front bearings have been replaced and one of the backs. Anyway I have spent less money repairing this car (total) then you would spend in a weekend at mardi gras in New Orleans. Great gas mileage 34 mpg average, I got 46 MPG on a stint through New Mexico when the car was a child with only 58,000 miles on it (say 40+ a lot back then). Now that it is broken in I get 33 in the summer and 28 in the winter. Still does not use hardly any oil (less then a 1/2 quart between changes 4000 miles). It did use some at one point, before I changed the valve cover gasket (230,000 miles). I have been through one clutch at 165,000 and it will probably need another one at 330,000 (oh well $380) (Don't take it to a dealer they will charge you $1000, that's because it is so rare they do this kind of repair). This car is an amazing piece of machinery (get the stick, if you can find one). 0 to 60 in 7.8 sec (6500 rpm of course). Quarter mile in 15.7 at 93 mph (not bad for 138 hp). Top speed 127 mph (it gets there reeeal slow after about 114) never been able to get passed 127 (ahh well). This car is great and will probably rust out before the engine goes (I am thinking 500,000 Plus). If they made it as an all wheel drive it could be the best automobile ever produced (but then it would have some kind of issue with the all wheel drive system that killed it at 140,000 miles). I mean it is not a Subaru or an Audi.

easily a 300k+ car

I'm a mechanic, and i have had this car since 180k. the engine is solid, no internal leaks except the valve cover gasket. The transmission with proper or improper maintenance, can last about 250k with little to none problems. the engine has original head gasket, intake gasket, and exhaust gaskets. the only common problem that I've seen is that the rear engine mount has a tendency to tear, causing shuddering during acceleration. the electronics are solid, to computer failures and I have not needed to replace the starter or have any problems starting. the aptitude needed to operate things inside the car is very simple. it has comfortable air conditioning that can last a long time with proper maintenance. I have gone on long road trips in this car and you could be able to stay in the drivers seat for a little bit over an hour and a half. the interior has no tears, stains, or sun damage, a simple vacuum can be able to make the car look like brand new. the steering wheel has a tendency to fall apart at about 150k, but it still works! also, the visibility is great! I have minimal blind spots, and great visibility. The acceleration is pretty decent too. I can be able to get to 60 mph in under 10 seconds with excellent control. I have had it up to 110 and it is pretty stable at high speeds. This car is the best car that I've ever owned for it's low pricing, and I will be buying this car again once my current elantra runs into the ground.

I bought this in 2004 and it is the best car I ever had. I still have this car low maintenance no problems and passing it down to my daughter. I'm sad because it's 2016 and I can't find another that suites me. Best car and I even have the 2003 Santa Fe. I will keep these best ever made.

I bought my Hyundai new in April 2004. I now have 123,000 miles on and could not be more pleased. Besides replacing tires and brakes( front rotors one time) the only repairs have been Timing belt, water pump, belts, tune-up with plugs & plug wires and front struts all done at 100,000 miles. Runs as good as new with very little rattle. I did replace the hatch lid struts 2 years ago.I average 24MPH in city driving, 32 on a trip. Love this car. I will run it till it dies. I traded my wife's 2006 Elantra GT in on a 2012 Santa Fe. Don't regret it a bit. Another great vehicle.

We've had our car since (I think) Spring of 2004. It is a great little car! Nearly everything about it is excellent! Pick-up and go is good except for when the AC is on and you are trying to get onto the freeway. The seats are a bit uncomfortable for long trips (2+ hours) though. Our CD player/faceplate is glitchy after all these years. If you press a button (even the off button) too hard it shorts out the faceplate and when you let go it turns back on. Sometimes it simply wont work unless you remove the face plate and put it back on. Our car only has just less than 98,000 miles on it.

130,000K miles, and it's perfect!

This car was bought for my eldest brother when he started college. He got this car in '11 with 101K miles on it. Since then, another 30ishK miles have come and gone, and it's as fresh as ever. It does show it's age (fuel tank has hairline fracture in it, has needed a lot of engine parts replaced recently) but for a car driven like this one, it's not bad at all! The manual gets better MPG's than our 40K mile '06 auto elantra, and it looks just as good! Just one problem with this car, and that's the trunk. It's large, but not as larger as the hatch's. Overall, a great 1'st car (especially for $4995!) Only problem right now is a missing trim piece that fell off due to bad glue!

The 2004 hyundai elantra gt was my first car, I recently got in an accident on the freeway and my car was totaled. I only had the car for 6 weeks, but I loved it, it was comfortable to drive and got me where i needed to go. I have been looking for another car but have yet to find one that compares in my mind, i would definately recommend this car and i wish i could find another one.

Someone once told me machines don't have a soul. I disagree. My Hyundai took me to work and happy places, safely and always got me home. We logged 131K miles together, and it just got to the point where it got tired. Life had been perfect except for a battery at 100K. Now, at 131K, We needed new struts, shocks, breaks, timing belt, water pump, CV joints, tires and headlight glass. With all that mileage, how much longer could we go on before something big broke? I took the repair money and bought it's cute cousin, the SOUL. I know the Kia and Hyundai family are as one, so I am looking forward to more far off trips to enjoy. Thank you, Blue Hyundai, for taking me to and from safely.

I bought this car new back in college. 8 years and 100k miles later I'm finally about to give it up for something larger. The biggest repair I've ever had to do on this car is replace the battery. Other than that, every day this car has started right up and performed great. It's been all over the country and even got me through the mountains without a problem. I couldn't ask for better gas mileage out of a car with such good acceleration. I did install an aftermarket stereo a few years ago to support my Ipod but the factory stereo was fine besides that. It's going to be hard to say goodbye!

I was in an accident with my 2004 Hyundai Elantra and although it was totaled, there is nothing bad I can say about this car. The other guy ran a red light and I t-boned him at 60 mph. The airbag deployed and my seat belt did not break. This accident was three days ago and I'm just sore. No broken bones. I was at the emergency room for about 30 minutes and was told I was fine and could leave. My Hyundai Elantra saved my life and that is why I'm taking the time to write this review. I highly recommend this vehicle for its comfort, safety, size, and pretty much everything else about it.

I purchased my elantra 5 years ago second hand with almost 40k on the clock. In the time that i have been driving this vehicle it has performed very well. Trips to Queensland and other parts of N.S.W. and on quite a few occations towed a trailer or a caravan with this car with no faults at all but only recently replaced the starter moter. had all the servicing done accoding to the log book and had the timming belt relaced . and now in may of 2011 i have only done 125,000. ks I did have a bit of trouble with the remote to unlock and lock the car as the warrenty was comming to the end and was charged for the recharge of another remote . but inall it has been my best car yet .

Great except for gas economy for size

I bought it new and now have 162 K on it. Nothing's been required beyond standard maintenance. I have never had any problems with it and it is fun and comfortable to drive (and I am 6'10"). I have owned a 1972 Fiat 124 sedan (auto), 1982 Toyota Tercel (stick), 2001 Honda Accord (auto), 1974 VW Rabbit (stick), diesel 1980 VW Dasher (stick), and a 4-cyl. 1989 Dodge Spirit (stick!). I would rank this Elantra up with any of them ... except for gas economy. The fuel economy is disappointing, but to fair, it does get what the sticker said it would (around 30 hwy). That was like worst of its class that year. (The 2011 Elantra is best! Oh well.) I love my Elantra.

This is my first car and I love it. It handles very well, the best out of all the ones I test drove. It has 102k miles on it, so I replaced the timing belt and some other items, but other then that it runs amazing. Has never left me stranded. The acceleration is very good, for the size of the motor. Also this car goes amazing in snow. When we had our blizzard where we got 6 in. I was going around 4wd drive trucks that were stuck in the snow. Overall it is a great little.

Just recently bought it 2nd hand with 82k on it. I loved its light body and they way it moves around city. I drove 2 heavy cars before, 96 Camry and 2000 infiniti both v6. This car is feather light. I love it driving around city where it is more fun. It zips and zaps around corner. Heavy driving is boring with this car, where heavier car excels for it comfort. Good mileage. Younger generation will love this car it feels like i am driving a go cart. Highly recommended it will put smile on your face.

I bought my 04 Hyundai "used" as a lease vehicle previously. This is the most reliable car I have ever owned. I like all of the standard features that on other models would cost extra. I have had to replace the radiator at about 90K, replaced the back brakes and rotors at about 100K, and have needed to replace headlights about every 6 months. The biggest inconvenience has been replacing the headlights, but this pales in comparison to the overall reliability of the car. I recently totaled this car (not due to the car!) . One thing that concerns me is that the airbag did not deploy in my head on collision. But I like this car so much that I am looking for another Elantra to replace it.

What has been done to this car that is not a wear item: 1) Clutch interlock switch (so it starts). 2) Clutch Slave Cylinder (recently) Maintenance Items: 1) Timing Belt. 2) Front Brake Pads. 3) Tires. 4) Oil changes. 5) Antifreeze change. Super reliable.... I am in the rust belt, so I expect an exhaust pipe in the future.

I got my Elantra just a little over 5 years ago and it’s still going. I purchased the extended 100,000mi/10yr bumper to bumper warranty. I’ve had to have my air bag sensors (both driver and passenger)and Kenwood CD player replaced. I’ve also replaced my headlights a few times. Didn’t have to pay for any of it! I leave my headlights on ALL the time so burning them out is to be expected. Over all I’m am super happy with my Elantra. I drive between 20 and 30 miles every day on average and get great mileage. Maintenance is a little pricey (in for my 60k,today ouch!) but the dealership is reliable and friendly (same guys in the service department since I got my car!)

This car gave me problems practically from the get go. The air conditioner went out literally 8 times in the 5 years I owned it!!! The first 6 were covered under warranty, but after the warranty expired, the dealership refused to stand by their work and fix it for free. Also, both cv joints went, and the cooler system needed major repairs. All of this before 80,000 miles, and I was meticulous with the maintenance. I never missed anything. I will never buy a Hyundai again.

Bought this car a few months ago from a lady who rarely drove it, only 9,000 miles in 5 years. Bought the car for my Grandmother, she likes the compact size because it is easier for her to drive and park. Have taken the car on small tips and 2000 mile trips, it is comfortable and will drive all day without a problem. Car has a lot of power, even my 20 something friends who have driven have commented on how quick it is. I never thought I would buy a foreign car, but this little Hyundai is great for everyone.

I researched plenty b4 buying my Elantra because I wanted a problem-free car (a real challenge when buying used). The '04 Elantra is highly rated by many car reviewers. Having owned mine for 6 months and driven 12,000 miles, I want to share how wonderful owning this car has been. I bought this car with 52K mi on it. It is a loaded 5-spd GT Hatch. I like the styling inside and out. I have not had a single mechanical problem. I have had to replace one headlight bulb and it was easy. If the biggest complaint about a car is changing headlight bulbs, common sense told me it is a smart car to buy. And the gas mileage? 35 MPG combined; that's 450 mi b4 the fuel light comes on! Worth every $ I paid.

This is by far the best city car- for the money - I have ever owned. I still get 28 MPG combined even with 69k on it. There is plenty of power to hold your own on the freeway, or get around that annoying person with his turn signal on for miles. Turn on the AC and it's a different story. The power flat lines, and the gas mileage heads to the basement. The interior is roomy - better than my wifes '08 Civic -but pretty plain (O CD player in GLS). And you cannot seem to ever find a balance between having the steering wheel at a comfortable hight, and still see all of the instrument cluster. The trunk is huge, and will hold several full sized suit cases. All in all it's a great car.

Not all it's cracked up to be.

I bought the Hyundai Elantra after what i thought was sufficient research. The dealer and Hyundai billed it as comparable in quality to Toyota & Honda. That is a joke. I had rust on the rear vent windows and other places pretty quick. I take pretty good care of my cars too. I don't spoil them but I don't neglect routine maintenance and cleaning. I've had no end of issues with the headlights burning out. I've had to replace them both 4 times now (8 new headlights) and you can't do it yourself unless you've already got the tools. It's a pain.

After 99500 miles, this has been a great car - fun to drive, reliable, economical. The only repair I have ever paid for on our three Elantras was an oxygen sensor on this one. I replaced the rear brakes once (still OEM in front)and the tires twice (only got 35000 miles from the second set). Gas mileage is great, power is great, 5-speed shifts nicely.

I've had the GT for five years now, few problems, only one repair I had to pay for myself. Original clutch and front brakes. It's been fun to drive, economical and reliable. After 99,000 miles, I'm looking to trade on a Sonata, and I just wanted to say that anyone who buys one of these used, if it's been treated right, you're getting a great value.

The steering column started squeaking at 160,000kms. Never had that problem ever before with any other car. This problem is not covered in the warranty, and have learned other drivers have faced this problem. The car is too light and need to put in bricks to stabilize it on the road else it drifts. Didn't matter how many times it was checked over, its like the centre of gravity is off on this car. The car has too many blind spots. This car has had more problems with it then my 1997 fort escort with 345,000kms on it.

Nice car, but could be better.

Bought a 2004 GT new and with the car approaching 5 years old, I'm overall satisfied with the car, but... Doing the suggested, periodic maintenance has been a huge headache, mostly focusing on the dealerships. The prices for the 30k, 60k, etc. check- ups are horribly overpriced and the dealerships don't even perform what the owner's manual suggests they do. You'll take your car in for a repair (like a PCV valve) and it's 10 minutes of sales talk before they tell you they haven't even looked at the car. I've even had them tell me I needed a grossly overpriced cabin filter replacement only to find it missing a week later when I did it myself. Thievery or the car didn't come with one.

I bought my Elantra new and have had no major mechanical issues. I've had to replace brake pads once and front headlights twice (which the dealer replaced at no expense to me). My only complaint is that it is very noisy inside (road noise), but overall, am very satisfied with its performance.

I've had a 2004 Elantra GT hatchback for two months. Great car - fast, safe, reliable, comfortable. However, the 5 spd. is extremely clunky; it feels more like a truck transmission than a car transmission. Moreover, the fog lights come on only when the headlights are on, which rather defeats the purpose of fog lights. Otherwise, terrific car.

Ive had my Hyundai which now has 46k miles now for just under 3 years now. Up until this year I was absolutely in love with my car, until it started giving me problems. I've replaced both front and back brakes twice within a year. I've had my transmission fluid flushed (shouldn't have had to do this). I've had problems with it stalling, the RPMs jumping like no other. I no longer feel safe in this vehicle nor would I ever recommend it to a new buyer. I've had it to the dealer 3 times and no one seems to know whats wrong, and everything that they "think" is causing it IS NOT covered under warranty. Paid for a warranty that doesn't cover a thing. I'm highly disappointed & looking for a new car!

After 4 years of owning my GT, I'm on my third set of tires (all good brands), have had the breaks replaced once and the front end aligned twice. This is all within the first 40k miles!!! The car is horrible in the snow, almost to the point of being dangerous. Other than that, I've had no other real issues. It still looks good and handles great. On my daily commute (city and highway driving) I average 28mpg. I'm debating if I want to buy a 2009 or go to a Civic/Corolla

I was not all that excited to be trading in my two seater sports car for the Elantra. However, I was growing out of the racer boy image and I needed something practical and good on gas. Now, I can't figure out why I had been driving anything else. This car is great. It excels at the things a "daily driver" should excel at and it still surprises me with thoughtful features designed into the vehicle that I had not known about. Can you believe it can tow over 3000lbs! I just found that out today and my jaw dropped. Awesome car.

Bought my GT used in Oct 2005. The car has ample power off the line and for passing on the highway. The ride is quiet, and the Sport Tuned Suspension improves handling over the GLS. The interior has held up very well in the time I have had it. Plenty of room in the back, I actually fit four girls back there during a night on the town. Hyundai really dropped the ball eliminating the GT sedan in 2006. The current SE model offers a lot of the same features, but it does not handle as well as the GT and the electric steering does not give the same feedback.

I have had no problems with this $15,000 car in my 3+ years of ownership which is more than I can say for my $40,000 Acura MDX. Other than the Passenger Airbag Sensor recall, this car has not been in for repairs other than the regular scheduled. The MDX has had several recalls for major items - power steering pump, transmission. Also had a cracked fuel tank pipe. It's really too bad that Hyundai is still getting penalized for being Korean and Acura/Honda gets high praise for being Japanese. I'll buy another Hyundai before a Honda/Acura product.

The 2004 Elantra is definitely something i will be keeping around for awhile. Some people might say that Hyundai does not make reliable cars, I don't know about Hyundai's past but i assure you that this sedan is nothing but reliable. I had purchased the car with only 18,000 miles on it and now it has over 50,000 in just one year. I still have not run into a single mechanical problem nor any interior problem. I had to replace the brakes but those are wearing parts. I drive both highway and city getting a 28mpg. It is most definitely not at its best when in snow though, it is actually not a snow friendly car at all. Ill just take it easy in snow and keep driving fun, good on gas, reliable car

This is my 2nd Elantra, first being a 99 wagon; pleased with both, but one consistent problem: both are horrendous in snow. I think the tires are just too wide, and they float. I've driven in snow all my life - Italian sports cars to trucks; these are the first cars I've ever been seriously uncomfortable in. Snows all around help, but narrower rubber would be the best. Overall, great car, 5- spd gets 34 mpg consistently - on my 8 mile commute and highway (at 80 mph last time). Just replaced rotors all around - I don't normally go through brakes, but..??? Would recommend to anyone - great package for the price!!

My Elantra GT has been my first experience with leasing. When the lease expires in June, I will be sorry to let it go. I need more storage than the hatchback allows for several sets of golf clubs. Everything else about the vehicle has been above average. One missing nicety is a hatch release from inside; I cannot understand why this has been overlooked.

I received this car new as a graduation gift and since I have put on 78,000 miles and have had it just shy of 3 years. It has been a dependable car, and has had no mechanical issues since 2004. I don't know if I would by a Hyundai again, not that it has been bad, but rather because although it has been a good car, the scheduled mantainence is rather pricy, and rather frequent. Gas mileage also needs to improve over what it is (never above 30 in city...expect around 27/8, never above 34 highway...expect 31) If looking at cars, definitely give this one a look.

This replaced a Camry that had too much 'crash customizing'. Overall, the car is well designed. With the rear seat down it holds a large amount of cargo considering the size of the car. There is adequate legroom for people over six feet tall. Sunroof tilts up to open as a 'no-draft. Less noise than opening a window. Still noisy though. Overall noise with all windows and roof closed is acceptable but not non-existent.

I use this car as a daily commuter in Houston and for about once monthly trips home to Louisiana. Gas mileage averages 27/28 mpg in combined city/highway driving, and mileage on the highway varies depending on how much speeding up/slowing down I have to do for 18 wheelers and slower traffic. I have gotten as good as 40 mpg on one trip setting the cruise control on 70. The car is remarkably comfortable and quiet for a compact car. The OEM tires have nearly 40,000 miles on them and will soon need replacing (strangely, the rear tires wore down sooner than the front tires, having never been rotated.) I am a very heavy man and the car is quite comfortable, even on my 4 hour road trips.

It's fully loaded with sunroof, traction control, Kenwood CD Stereo w/ detachable face. No way I would have gotten so much for such that price from the other cars I was considering (Golf, Matrix, Protege, Saturn).I've got just over 52,000 miles on it now. I love this car. I drive 75 miles a day to get to work and driving around Chicago streets and highways is so much more comfortable. Cargo space is excellent for the size of the car. Only problem, that recently popped up, is with cruise control switch which was replaced by the warranty. Just regular maintanence so far

So, I went in search of some realiable transportation, telling myself that it would just be for a year max and then I could get into another Volvo. After reading about this car in the Kiplinger's Report, then reading the reviews on here and other sites, I called my dealership. Unfortunately, this was soon after a Hyundai ship had been lost at sea and these cars were a bit hard to come by but they found me one and even came down to my price. I'm happy with the car though and I recently sent one to Europe. I haven't had any mechanical problems and I would definitly recommend the car to anyone who's looking to buy a compact sedan. I have friends with Civics and Sentras and they are not any better yet they're more expensive. The car is even roomier and better laid out inside. The GT is a great value but I think they should add a bigger engine if they wanna call it a "sporty."

This car has many safety features. It’s comfortable, reliable, fun to drive and very detailed in both interior/exterior design. The features it offers are seldom found even in high-end brand of cars. Fuel economy is amazing. I average 39.4 MPG. Sometimes I exceed 40 MPG due to the manual transmission, which allows better RPM management. That’s why, overall, I don’t have complains, because it perfectly meets my “wants” and “needs”. In essence: I love it, and look forward to purchase either/or the 2006/2007 version, same model, if still in production (hopefully).

The 5 door GT,has the ride and feel of cars costing 5 - 10 thousand dollars more. Good gas mileage, 27-29, very quiet and euro looking. Never thought I'd like it till we drove it. Save your money as the warranty makes it worth owning

I test drove the Hyundai Elantra Elite (top spec). I'm from Australia. and it's fantastic - I can't get over the quietness of the 2.0 litre 4; very refined and has plenty of up and go. interior is lovely and drivers seat adjustments are great. Comfortable seats, huge boot, and everything is standard and does everything quite well. My next car will be another Hyundai!

I got a great price last year on my previous 2004 GT Hatchback with the Automatic Tranny. Not much pep and transmission was confused easily. Tires lost tread very quickly and gas mileage was a major disappointment average 22mpg due to having to floor it often. Inside is very nice but leather showed distress within a few months. Last winter spell was its last, nearly crashed serveral times going to work on light snow covered roads. Good cheap college car in dry flat climates but in Pittsburgh it was not going to cut it, got a 2005 Subaru Forester this weekend (7,500 more), no comparison and I finally don't have sweaty palms in snowy conditions.

My wife and I bought an 04 Elanra VE as our first car. We've had it 6 months so far and other then the radio's clock being fast, we've had no problems. The exterior looks of this car are great; we love the front end especially. The warranty (in Canada it's 7 year powertrain/5 year new car) was one of the main factors for purchasing this car. Fuel economy is not great, it's OK, but I find my '95 Saturn gets more fuel range, but I drive it more on the highway so it is hard to compare. The VE comes with air, power locks, windows, mirrors (heated), keyless entry. The handling has a good combination of smoothness over bumps and stiffness when cornering. The engine is powerful enough for our needs.

This is my wife's car and was purchased three weeks after I got my Mazda 3s 5-door. Both cars have a real nice fit and finish. I would recommend either one for the long haul. That's where the similarities end. The Elantra GT has bland looks. Not much separates it from the GLS sedan. The interior is nice, especially for the small amount it took to upgrade to the GT. On the peformance side, this is hardly worthy of the GT designation. The engine is reliable, but hardly a performer. The leather seats are slippery and unsupportive in turns. My biggest gripe would have to be the steering ratio. It takes too much movement to coax this car to turn. Nice reliable car, splurge for the 3s to add fun.

We bought our Elantra in August. Not a lot of problems, just a few "rattles". We've had problems with the paint job. Dealership told us we let bird "poop" sit too long. Not true, we had 4 hurricanes--nothing stayed on too long! We finally got the Hyundai representative to agree it was "paint failure" and it is in the shop being repainted (warranty item). We can't see spending a ton of money on a car. The Hyundai's are not bad for the price. Had an Accent that went 90K - could've gone longer but we sold it.

I love the way the car handles on the road and enjoy the comfort of the car. there are some interesting quirks that take a while to get used to ie. driving lights that turn off when the ignition switch is turned off, also The passenger airbag light is hit or miss depending on where you sit in the front passenger seat.

Great car, awesome handling, teriffic gas mileage! I have never recieved so much buyer satisfaction with any car I have ever owned. Compare other 5 door hatchbacks, include all the bells and whistles (leather, moonroof, cd, front bra, front and SIDE airbag protection) and you WILL NOT FIND A BETTER DEAL OR A BETTER VALUE! While all of my friends pay OVER $350/mo-$450/mo for their gas-guzzlers/clothed-autos, it makes me feel wonderful about the decision I made the day I decided to test drive the elantra GT hatchback. I fell in love with this car as soon as I opened the driver's side door.

This is my 2nd Elantra and 3rd Hyundai. Purchase a 1998 Accent for my daughter in college. The first time we drove into the driveway and stopped the front signal light assembly fell out and dangled by the wires, I thought, oh no, what a mistake. The car has more than 100,000 trouble free miles on it now and is being driven 1,000 miles a week now, WOW. Just put my 01 Elantra up for sale with 100,000 trouble free miles after buying a discounted year end 04 Elantra for a mere $10,500, includes moonroof, upgraded stereo, side airbags, and a 5 speed this time. The best bang for my buck. A Lexus it is not, but dependable, efficient, comfortable, and inexpensive it is!

Bought a 2004 Elantra after owning a 2002 Elantra that went problem-free for the entire two years and 50,000 miles. No problems really with the 2004 except for a temperamental clutch that was replaced promptly--seemed to be affecting the car's starting. I'm on the road about 4 days a week and continue to be very satisfied after 15,000 miles.

I bought my Elantra as a commuter car. I have moved recently to the "ex-burbs" of Chicago from the city proper, and needed a fuel efficient vehicle with a low sticker price.I have owned Mercedes,Toyota, Mazda and top of the line U.S. built cars and I am extremly pleased with the Hyundai. It is the only vehicle I have owned that surpassed my expectations! I thought I would be sacrificing comfort, power and handling when I bought this car...WRONG!

I am so excited about my Elantra that I thought I needed to let people know why. I looked at several cars in this "genre" before I made my final decision. I bought me a new Hyndai Elantra in 1993 so I was already familiar with the company and vehicle. I did look at the cars that everyone looks at ie Honda and Toyota. Price for price and pound for pound I will put my 2004 Elantra up against the Civic or Corolla anyday. The financial incentives were awesome, saving me $2500.00, which was what the 5 year extended bumber to bumper warranty cost so I went ahead and got it. Now I can rest easy knowing that for the next 10 years my Elantra is covered bumper to bumper no questions asked.

I would like readers of my review to keep in mind that I think very highly of this car because it has a lot of features and refinement for the money. However there are some negatives. The styling is rather bland both inside and out. The fuel economy is not as good as it could be compared to other commuter cars like the Civic and Corolla. The leather seats are not as comfortable as they could be. The car's value comes in when talking about the powertrain and build quality which are both very smooth, tight, powerful, and quiet. The car gives the driver the feeling that it will last for a very long time. I would recommend this car to anybody who values quality and price.

I went out and intended to buy a Honda Civic, or something similar. I bought the 2004 Elantra, and I'm *very* happy with that choice. 2/3rds the cost of a similarly-equipped Civic, I have no complaints after 15k miles. It also has 130 hp, instead of the 105ish that seemed to be the standard in this size/cost class.

Things like the airbags, leather, sunroof, the tripometer (I love that thing), heat mirriors, the seat, and the good cd/soundsystem. Another cool thing is the great handling it has for small car. I can drive that thing like I never thought possible! For only having one hundred and some horsepower it sure does have some go. And above all that warranty is the best!

Have had Chrysler, GM, Honda and Toyota cars, as well as one of first Sonatas sold in this country. The Sonata was in the middle of the stack in terms of quality, but towards the low end. However, it appears as though Hyundai has made a lot of quality improvements on its more recent vehicles. With 13,000+ miles on it, the Elantra has thus far been a trouble free car, and has been an easy car to get into and out of, as well as drive, for this 6'2" driver.

Owned since April 31 of this year. Just got it out of the shop at 10k miles - they dropped a new transmission in, the old one grinded shifting into second at anything over 2800rpm. Minor interior trim rattling on rough roads or when the sub is cranked. Other than that, this car is more feature-laden and fun to drive than anything out there under $16k, even taking other cars' rebates into effect. The Mazda3 is more fun, with a stronger engine and better aftermarket support, but costs $5k more than the $11,600 I paid for my GT hatch... and if I sink half of that difference into suspension, wheel/tire, and engine upgrades I'll have almost as nice a car customized to my liking. Bravo Hyundai!

It sounds like a sports car in sheep's clothing. For the price you can't beat it. I'm amazed they are not flying of the lots... but had I not come out to Edmunds I might not have ever looked at them. We've had our Elantra VE for a month now, and it has been great so far. The car seems solidly built, the engine is smooth and has decent power. The suspension is a good compromise between sporty and a smooth ride. We like the large trunk space and the materials for the seats. The dash is clearly laid out and has the imporant information on it. Fuel economy is good, not great. Comparing this to my sisters 04 Corolla, I think we got the better car for our dollar. For the price we got all the power options and a great warranty. Interior room is similar in the two, This is the first non-GM I've bought and so far am happy with the purchase.Financing 0.9% for 72mos

I have owned my Elantra GT for 2 years now. Not once have I had a problem with it. Many people Have small issues (My parents own a Turbo New Beetle, it's been in the shop more times than I can count for annoying problems, but not major ones) The Elantra is a modern marvel to the car industry. You get excellent standard options, good quality interior that's sporty and very functional (user friendly), an exterior design that has a nice design, with a slight agressive edge. The only issue with the car, which i have to complain about is the paintjob was ok. Other companies do better paintjobs, i think Hyundai goes too thin with their color, and the clear coat.

After careful review and examination of all direct competitors we purchased our second Hyundai (Sonata in Nov-03). Compared to the competition, the Elantra is in a class by itself from interior comfort, storage/trunk space, real drive ability and take charge road handling performance this buggy is a real sleeper. The sporty yet some what sophisticated exterior draw you in to an exciting and very pleasureable ownership experience.

I purchased this vehicle because I needed something reliable, yet sporty to drive. Fuel economy was also important. I needed a 4 door vehicle and was initially looking at a used Camry. I found the Hyundai for roughly the same price, and considering the warranty it convinced me to buy a Hyundai. I have not yet had any problems with my vehicle and am happy with the overall styling. The stereo looks nice, but the quality of speakers could be bumped up a bit. The biggest downfall of this car would be the acceleration, which I crave a lot of, but considering the other benefits of the car, I can deal with the slight dissappointment. Highly reccommended purchase.

Best all around !

This is the BEST value I have ever seen! For around 14K you get Leather, Aluminun Rims, Side Airbags, CD/MP3, Disk Brakes, Sport Suspension, hallogen, computer trip, cruise control, power everything (but seats), 5 doors, good looking.... Then top that with a crazy 10 year warranty ...One more thing 5 years roadside assist. Can any one come out with something even close to this without looking at 18K? ....NOOOO.

The Elantra GT is the best value in the compact 5-door class, at least $3000 less than other cars with comparable equipment. It is a solid, comfortable car with a good blend of ride and handling, excellent driving position, and roomy cargo area. This is my second Elantra and I am very satisfied thus far.

Bought an Silver Hyundai Elantra GT 2004 Model in third week of June 2004 in the state of NJ. Paid $13900 OTD ( incl taxes etc). Excellent car... lots of power. Delivers avg mileage of 28.5 mpg. Was debating between Civic, Corolla, sentra and Elantra. Civiv would have been the first choice but its expensive even with the most basic features. Corolla has no power at all. Seating is a bit awkard too. Little more pricier than Elantra. Sentra has bad crash test ratings and looks are a turn off. Elantra has a good balance of all.

I have had this car for exactly 2 weeks now and am pretty happy with it. I have logged over 500 miles and the car drove just as well fully loaded with my family on last weekend's getaway as it does everyday getting me to and from work! The ride is solid and it handles well, although I'm still getting used to it! The only problem I have had is with the stereo; it won't play CDs without pausing intermittantly. Fuel mileage varies greatly; the MPG meter shows 35-40 on flat highway stretches but dips into the low 20s during my 13 mile commute thru a rural canyon, but it seems to be improving. The buying experience at San Bernardino Hyundai was Excellent!

This car has been a great change from our GMC 14mpg mini-van. We took our first road trip and pulled 32mpg w/a.c. on. I'm 6'2" and have plenty of leg/head room, my wife is 5'1" and can pull up w/in easy reach. The trunk can fit quite a bit. 48qt cooler,2 sleeping bags/pillows,6 man tent,2 chairs and some toys for the kids. The seats are comfortable but not cushy. Our longest sit has been 3hrs w/one rest stop, a little stiff for that long. For around town and short jaunts it's great. I would recommend this car to anyone looking for style, affordability and a great warranty package.

We had to rent a car when our son came home on leave from the army. As luck would have it, we got stuck with an Elantra. What a find. We bought a 2004 in April. It drives as well as our Buick Century (2001). I do agree though with people claiming lack of quality in the paint. We already have scratches that have penatrated the clear coat and the paint. Nothing like that on the Buick.

Even my sister who commutes with me to work daily, feels the Elantra is much more attractive than the 2003 Corolla I was driving and 10 x better than the 1995 Mazda I had for the last 9 yrs. I have no regrets in buying this car. The price is no comparison to the value.

Checked out the usual suspects: Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Mazda3, Ford Focus, etc. The Hyundai GT hatchback was a prime candidate because of its hatchback design and cost - significantly less than the others with more features. The Civic and Mazda were more expensive without half the equipment of the GT, The Corolla was boring and the Focus has been recalled more times than I can think of. I have to admit that the $2000 rebate played into my decision; with it and the dealer discount, the cost came out to just under $13000 (including sunroof ). Without the rebate I would have considered the Honda or Mazda more seriously.

We had a 2002 GT until May of this year when it was hit and totalled by an Expedition. We were just shy of 60000 miles with a perfect, tight car. I am 6'6" and fit this car pretty good. We tried to replace it but our fully loaded example is sold out until the 2005s come out! This car is much quieter than the Civic, Protege/3 etc. The interior is as good as anything out there. We added the factory wood trim kit and it really makes the interior. As far as recalls mentioned by others, check out Honda and VW lately. You can not go wrong with this car! Traction control, ABS, leather, sunroof, power heated mirrors, CD, 4whl disk brakes, huge cargo room,

We were travelling on a two lane road and when it was time to pass, it got up and went, no holding it back. The comfort is very pleasing, we constantly have to watch the speedometer to make sure we are not speeding. I would advise anyone to look at this car.

I have only had this car for less than a month...but so far I just absolutely love it! Excellant options and price. I am still driving on the same gas as when I bought it. Also it has just as much room in it as my Stratus did. Very cosy car.

Plenty of get up and go, I drive alot through steep mountains with the AC on and do not lose much (if any) power. Passes other cars with ease on steep inclines. Very comfortable seating with plenty of room, the seats are wider than other cars in it's class. You get alot of extras for an inexpensive price. You cannot beat the price, paid a little over 11k and a comparable Honda or Toyota would have been 15-16k. No need to pay extra for an extended warranty, comes with an awesome standard warranty. I would suggest this car to anyone. Why pay more for less, this car rocks;)

What I really like about this care is that you don't need a lot of space for parking. One of my main goals in purchasing this car is the monthly payment. I don't what to pay a car note that was more than my student loans. My round-trip commute is 75 miles and the car is still fun to drive and comfortable and I look forward to getting in it every day. It is solid, classy, and top quality in every aspect, inside and out. It provides excellent handling and performance and gets 26.5 miles to the gallon day in and day out. Pros: A lot of thought went into designing this car. The amount of equipment included for the price is an exceptional value Cons: Within two months the service was required for the following problems: Clutch switch. When I went new car shopping Hyundai was at the top of my list and stayed there especially when I realized that I would get so much more for my Dollar by buying a Hyundai instead of a Toyota or Honda. Read the reviews and compare the Elantra to the Corolla, Civic, Neon and Focus and you will see that the Elantra is not only a car worth serious consideration but your best option. This is an OK car, nothing special especially in terms of the materials used. Car has many squeaks/rattles/buzzes that the dealer does not want to address. Car handles well and the 4 wheel discs work well. Seats are comfy and I fit, 6'5" 225lbs nicely. Build quality is only fair due to rattles and cheapness of interior materials, seats are already showing wear?? in 2 months... This concerns me. Car can be caught completely flat footed on hills where it WILL NOT downshift, the lead tech told me this was a KNOWN issue , he also said they were not as well made as the Sonata,

I've owned my GT Hatchback for 30 days now. I have found it to be a fantastic car. I realize there are a significant percentage of buyers out there who will not be satisfied unless they have paid a lot of money for their vehicle. Try as you might, you will be unable to pay more than $14,000, so you folks will need to look elsewhere. I went with the hatchback vs. the sedan trim based on the distinctive style. A word of caution however; the hatchback model with ABS/moonroof package seems to be a pretty rare animal. Be prepared to wait for delivery.

Test drove everything in the class, Civic, Corolla,Protege - $ for $ the Elantra won hands down!...in every category - performance, style (opinion) and value (keyless remote, 140 hp, air, pwr windows/locks, cruise control - all extra $$ on the others)..acceleration, nimble handling, standard features and the unbelievably smooth ride and silent cabin will amaze you. I first said, "No way will I buy a Hyundai," but now I recommend this vehicle to everyone - totally different than the old rusty Ponies...only problem was the thin paint (some chips) and driver's seat latch that wouldn't click in..all fixed by dealer. Other than that - smooth sailing!

I just said goodbye to my 97 Elantra and decided to go back with Hyundai. The new Elantra is big, more powerful and much more attractive. I got the GT Hatchback fully loaded for $14K. No ABS however. The leather (the real thing) is very nice, the purple/red dashboard illumination at night is very "cool". The sounds system is quite impressive for a car of this price. However i love that it can play MP3 CDs. No one can beat the warranty and you won't be able to find another car with Leather, Sunroof, impressive sounds systems, Alarm, power everything for the price. The ride is very quiet, even with the sunroof open on the highway.. VERY IMPRESSIVE!

This little car is the biggest surprise I have ever had in an automobile. I traded in a Mercury Grand Marquis, which is a fine Automobile. This Elantra rides as good as the Mercury and corners better. It is comfortable to drive and the steering and brakes are very responsive. The 4 cylinder engine was also a big surprise,

The Elantra is not a economical as toyota or as fast as some other 4 cyl lighter cars, but is a good combination of all. Most of all, the disign has not fallen into the latest ugly craze. I have been a strong Toyota customer, but the styling has caused me to look around, and I am hoping the Hyundai will be as reliable as toyota.

Owned at least a dozen cars, 4 of them Hyundai Elantras. Each better than the last. Most satifying car i've ever owned. Haven't found a better value, or better coporate-buyer relations. Low resale value more than made up for with warranty & repeat buyer incentives. This is the first car i've owned that i cannot imagine trading in before the wheels fall off (not likely).

We bought this car based on all the information we obtained on Edmunds. This has been the best car we have ever owned. I handles like a dream, average MPG is 29.1 and we have not taken a highway trip yet. On back roads the Elantra GT does not lean into the turns and holds the road perfectly. The only problem was w/Hyundai they did not manufacture enough models w/ABS and we could not get the color we wanted w/all the options. We cannot praise this car enough you must own one to understand the enjoyment of having/owning a Hyundai Elantra GT.

I purchased a 2003 Elantra GT (pretty much same as the 04) and i ablsolutely love my car. As a 21 year old college student I was shocked that i could afford a car with leather seats, power everything, on a part time job. not to mention it sorta looks like a late model saab 9-3 (bonus!!!) For functionality, you can't beat it b/c of the hatch w/ fold down seats that fold completly flat with the trunk floor. It is a breeze to put almost anything in it, i've even put in 8 sheets of plywood without having to cut it!!

I've had this car for more than a year now and I've had NO problems with it! It's slower with the pickup than I'm used to, but it keeps up with traffic pretty well! Its got awesome handling and has saved me from quite a few accidents (DC traffic can be lethal!) The ABS brakes have also come in handy a couple times in the rain and snow! I don't think the stereo is as amazing as people say it is, but for a factory system, its not bad!

I'm luvin' it!

I recently replaced a '91 econo-car with the 2004 Elantra GLS - and I am very pleased. I prefer to drive a car for many years (I drove my last one for just over 10 years) so choosing a new car took a bit of time to make sure I got something I would be happy with way down the road. The Elantra offered the best value: low cost, well built, sufficient fun-factor, good fuel economy, and a LONG warranty. Since I plan to keep this for at least 10 years, resale is irrelevant.

Great Value, Great Car, Low Price!

The market perception that Hyundai still makes lousy cars works to the buyers advantage. If you put a Honda or Toyota badge on the Hyundai Elantra GT it would sell for $20K and be worth every penny. How Hyundai can sell this car for under $15K is beyond me but I am not complaining. The Elantra is quick, comfy, handles well and gets pretty decent gas mileage. The ride is smooth and quiet. It has lots of features and a great radio too! One sweet little car!

This is an amazing vehicle. The build and quality are very good for an economy small car. Everything is tight, feels substantial, and looks pleasant or even attractive. I really like the hatchback's exterior profile. The warranty and roadside assistance are unmatched by anyone else. Bottom line is this car is very well built, looks great, and drives great and has an *UNBEATABLE* price! If you like to drive well, but not pay a premium to do so, check this car out! We have NO regrets so far since purchasing our Elantra; we think that's a great sign that we made the right choice! My wife and I alternate who drives so we can both enjoy it!

Yes this is a car that you will pay well under 20,000 for. The ride is very stiff and if you have to spend any time in it for traveling or camut's, you will need to get out to strech you legs. All i realy can say is get a good acupunchest or ciropractor (you'll need it anfter a few weeks of driving). Though it has a nice warrinty the factory mantaince can get a little pricy. The gas milage is great. I would never buy this car again and never recamend it to a friend or family member. It could be a good interductry car for the 20 somethings just starting out in the world.

This car was purchased to replace a 2003 Honda Civic that was totaled ($13000 damage) in a 25 mph accident. I was disappointed that the Honda suffered so much damage at such a low speed when my son hit a Ford Explorer. We looked at another Civic, the Ford Focus, Mazda 3 and the Elantra. The Elantra was by far the best deal for the money. Got it for just under $14000. It's nice to drive; MUCH quieter and smoother than the Civic with more engine power. The MPG is around 25 in city commuter driving, very respectable. So far I'm very pleased.

Hyundai hits a home run with the Elantra GT! Not since I purchased my Volkswagen GTI in 1986 has a car so captured the fun to drive spirit and bang for the buck value of my Elantra GT. It has competent road manners a great ride and is quick and responsive providing excellent driver feedback. I find myself going for rides just because and with gas at almost $2 a gallon it gets decent mileage in the high 20's around town and mid 30's on the highway that doesn't brake the bank. The standard leather interior, great Kenwood stereo and hatchback versatility make this little Saab impersonator hard to beat.

Great, responsive car for the money! We got the fully loaded GT w/the sunroof and ABS system for 13,700! The seats may still need breaking in as they are extremely stiff, and the gas mileage should be better for such a small car - my Intrepid gets almost as good of mileage. I did a lot of research before purchasing my Elantra GT 5door. I looks at Chevy, Dodge, Honda, Nissan, Mitsubishi and the HYundai was the best deal. For what you get in Hyundai for the price your pay, you cant beat it. I found a HTF pkg 8 with ABS/Tract Control and my dealer, Towne Hyundai in Denville NJ didnt try to mark up the car because of it. Warranty, Leather, great stereo, sunroof, power everything, auto, abs, tract control, reputable dealer, with a 2000.00 rebate and 500.00 extra for owner loyalty (I traded a 97 Accent with 145K-another good car) The Elnatra was well under $15000 !!! Where else can you get so much for so little !

I own 2 Elantras. They are great vehicles re: price, style, quality, performance and, in my opinion, safety. I recently skidded on ice and hit a tree broadside on driver's side w/my 2002 Elantra). The driver's *side* airbag (not available on many more expensive cars) deployed and likely saved my life. I got top dollar on the "totaled car" -- so they hold their value) and I promptly bought a 2004 to join my 2003. Got super customer service, as well!

I have been typically a GM man. I was rather hesitant when my wife suggested going and test driving a Hyundai. The last I remember about foreign cars was they fell apart rather quickly; within 5 years or so. Also, they were an arm and leg to fix. Well, I found out differently. It is a great car. It handles well. It is a sterdy car. It is comfortable to ride in and is fun to drive. I was rather impressed to say the least. You will get your money's worth out of this car.

Don't look at Honda Civic, don't look at Toyota Corolla, go directly to Hyundai, and buy an Elantra GT Hatchback. I did the research, test drove, did more research, I bought the best of the best. The car is tight as a drum, drives like a dream, smooth automatic, fully loaded costs about the same as an entry-level competitor. Leather seats, Kenwood stereo, fog lights, cute rear and front end...hatchback with rear seats down flat holds almost as much cargo as the Honda CRV I traded in. Quality is outstanding. My wife and I also own a 2000 Volvo C70 convertible...I can't decide which one I like best!

Well I've driven pick-up trucks for the past 12 years so this small sedan is a bit of a departure for me. My wife did have a 99 Nissan Maixma SE for a few years, and while this would never be confused with a Maxima, it is fun. So far I love the way it drives. It's effortless. It dives into corners and zips through traffic. Basically for the money it can't be beat. I had looked at the Mazda 3s and to get it with the same features as the Elantra GT would have cost 4-5K more. The Nissan Sentra is... well a Sentra. The Hyundai warranty is simply the best.

I recently bought the Hyundai Elantra 4 dr GT hatchback. I found this car is much better than the Elantra I bought back in 2000. Much better suspension, much better handling on the curves. Comes with an MP3 player standard. I love this car! The seats are very comfy and adjustable with lumbar support. All leather interior. You have to take one for a test drive! The only thing I don't like about it is where the cup holders are placed. Pretty minor.

I have had this car for a year, and I love it. It's fun to drive, VERY comfortable on long road trips, and great on gas. There is TONS of storage space when the back seat is folded down. My only complaints are the bad paint quality (it's already chipping) and the cheap sun visors (the mirror cover-flap has fallen off TWICE, even after being replaced with a brand new

I've had the car for about a month and I love it! I'm glad I did my research before assuming this car was junk just because it's a Hyundai. If you notice, there aren't many on the road which makes me feel good. It's great not to be a sheep and follow everyone else to the Honda, Nissan and Toyota dealers. I'm a lifer for Hyundai!

This car handles great in the snow, as I live in the east and we have had qquite a few snow storms. The inside in very quite and the car runs like a dream. I get 270 miles to a full tank of gas but that is both Highway and city driving. Teh car comes with electronic wondows and door locks as well as keyless entry.

This is a great car. Handles turns very, very well, and is great on gas. I work hard for my money and all I wanted was an affordable car. Well, I got that and everything else...sunroof,leather,fog lights, peppy 130hp engine with more than enough torque, & a great sound system. I have never been able to afford all that. I thought it was only for the rich to enjoy. Test drive this car, you will not be unimpressed.

The comfort and performance has been the best of any car we have owned. for a small car it has a LOT of room. our kids are all grown 6' and up and they can sit comfortable in front or back good leg room and head room. Love it will get new version when we trade for new car.

I took my new Elantra out for the first time, after signing the paperwork, in the middle of a snow storm. Experiencing the way this 5- speed handled in bad weather confirmed my suspicions, trading my old Elantra for a new one was a great move. I've owned Hyundais for a lot of years now and even sold them for a while and would recommend the Hyundai product line to anyone looking for a finely engineered, reliable, well warranteed and inexpensive vehicle.

I just bought my first Hyundai. I was in a Malibu 2 times prior to this purchase. I wasn't too keen on the Hyundai's but I saw this one and test drove it since my budget didn't allow for much I kept an open mind. I was pleasantly surprised!! It's perky, and it handles very well on tight curves and it bad weather.I love all the gadgets that came with it. So far I am very happy with my Hyundai Elantra GT.

Engine: Quiet at idle, sounds awesome at full-throttle, responsive, not underpowered. Clutch operation is smooth, yet grippy. Suspension: Unbelievably smooth and comfortable ride - like a Cadillac, yet handling leans more towards that of a sporty car. Stops fast and straight. Quiet tires (Michelin). Interior: Roomy and comfortable. Hyundai thought of everything, from numerous storage compartments to hiding rear cup holders. Factory sound equipment sounds extremely nice, with good bass and ear-tingling highs. Exterior: Attractive styling compared with previous years. Good paint selection.

However the moment I test drove the 2004 Elantra it felt right. I felt so comfortable and safe driving it, I had to get it!!!! The exterior/interior are very classy looking and i've been getting tons of compliments on it!!!! Lauren

I have had my new Elantra for just a few weeks. I'm 6'3" and fit well in this car. The controls are easy to use and the drive of the car is firm and tight and peppy. In addition to feel of the car, it just plain looks great. The CD/MP3 player is a welcome addition to an already great interior. However, in another review, I read that the sound system looks too glitzy because of the way that it flashes different colors. After I bought the car and read the manual, I found that this color flashing option is a demo mode and can be turned off. For $14K(+) and with the standard set of options, you just can't do better.

I had a Tiburon 97, a Sonata 2000, an Elantra GT 2002, and now, since two months, an Elantra GT automatic 2004, the best of all Hyundai car that I have driven Why a Hyundai product totay? When I bought the Tiburon, it was because I was struck by the beauty of the car. But now I bought an Elantra GT 2004 because it's again a very nice car, always a very reliable car, but mainly because it's a car so fun to drive, and very generous in space for a guy of more thant six feet tall. Really I'm proud of my Elantra GT 2004 red glaze. Finally, since more thant 8 years, I have always received a first class service from my Hyundai dealer

I can't believe what I paid for it. I get nothing but compliments on the ride and interior, and the cargo space is huge. I stuffed a 6-foot pine tree back there with the hatch closed and room to spare. I keep discovering thoughtful details.

I bought this car in July of 2003 and three days later I went on an 1800 mile road trip to NH. During the time I was amazed with the fuel economy and the quiet and ride comfort in a car that was less than 15,000 dollars with all the options. Some of my favorite features on the car include the comfortable seats, the knob on the 5-speed, and the cool blue lit dials for the speedometer and tachometer.

I have had my Elantra GT for 1 month and about 2000 miles now and can say it has beem a great experience so far. It is stylish has adequate performance (although a closer ratio gearbox and a bit more clutch feel would be welcome) and is pretty comfortable on a long trip. It could also use a bit sportier sounding exhaust system in as the engine is almost too quiet. Overall though it reminds me of the original Volkswagen GTI with an extra set of doors.

I previously owned a 1996 Subaru Legacy, which needless to say was great in the snow and rain, but was a mechanical disater. I always buy on quality based on previous mechanical history and OWNERS' reviews. I have to say that after 2 months of reseach and a lot of comparing, I was very satified with my decision until I bought it... now I'm extatic about my decision. It's not only practical, but sporty, attractive and built to last (not like a tank though). If it's within your budget, opt for package 4, it includes the ABS/TCS sys, upgraded CD/speakers, and a few other nice options. You cannot get a better price with all the options in this car.

The 04 gt hatch has been a pleasure the day we met. yes, the elantra only gained a mir 3 hp in a year(138) but it is note worthy. the variable valve timing now on the 2.o dohc does add a boost otherwise noted on this site (135hp). the suspension can handle those turns and downshifting can get you that extra boost without worrying about you dropping something on the interstate. the kenwood cd/mp3 BUMPS indeed. the leather is nice.. the whole interior is nice. i fit a 27 inch tv box and all in the cargo.overall this car is crazy nice i assure anyone with doubts that even test driving this car will change your mind. mods a must

I have owned this vehicle about two months and really love it. It is fun to drive and the stereo is great. The hatchback gives lots of cargo room. The leather seats are a real bonus. There are only two shortcomings: the gas mileage is not great (but it is so fun to drive that is minor) and there are no cupholders in the rear. But for the price, I don't think you can beat it.

Airbig woun't stay on on the passanger side. Hyundai has put a light for the passanger side seat. You have to have 50# for the airbag to activate. When you drive my car it goes on & off Sometimes it stay on. I have only had it 3 weeks and in the shop 4 times. Its now a lemon the law says they have to replace the car. The dealership gave me a new one off the lot and it did the same thing. Hyundai had a man to work on it and he said it was ok NOT! So The dealership called Hyundai no answer yet. Thanks for your time John

With my spinal cord injury, the car I purchased had to be tops in comfort, tops in reliability, and tops in ease of use and handling. Given my medical bills, the car I selected had to be under $20,000 all inclusive. Enter a lengthy internet search that lasted weeks. The Hyundai Elantra GT hatchback w/ auto-shift won! I have had it one year; lots of stop/go traffic; record snow (upstate NY); record cold; wet spring/summer -- no negatives! Even Coogee, my rat terrier service dog loves it! What a car, truly!

For the price, this is the best car I've owned. Yeah, it's cheap, but that only makes my friends wonder why they spent 10K more on a car. The hatchback is terrific. I can get anything into the car, including a 6-foot step ladder. Does it have a lot of power? No. But with no desire to go off road, I can drive anywhere I want to. Occasionally, I know I cannot pass a porsche when I'm going uphill. The car has a super-designed interior. Feels just right, even for big guys. My wife and I both like to drive it.

Comes standard with power mirrors/windows/locks, AC, quad-design headlights, steering wheel tilt, 60/40 split rear, plenty of storage/cup holders, etc, etc. Where else can you get so much for so little with an excellent warranty from Hyundai?

i bought my 2001 hyundai elantra in march of 2001 i put so far 60,000 miles on it so far and dont really take that great of care of it and it still runs great. it gets wonderful gas mileage and it seats 4 adults quite comfortably. i only had one problem with it so far and that is the headlight bulbs dont last more than a year but they are cheap to replace. u can purchase them at kmart for 7 dollars each. i highly reccomend this car to anyone.

This car is not reliable. With a few initial minor problems and after 4000 miles later, the engine leaks coolant. A well-made car should not have this kind of problem, IMHO. The point is, you are buying a cheap car and that is what you get. Their cheap service comes as part of a cheap package, too. Be warned. You are taking a risk.

I've owned it for only a little while and love to drive it. when you look at what other company's are offering in this price range and what you get with a gt elantra it's a no brainer. Thats even without the warrenty.

Although I have very few miles on this new car I do love it. My last car was a 1990 Saab and people that know me think this is a Saab as well. The lines are so similar. The car is very comfortable to drive and be a passenger in. I appreciate the space in the hatch back and the fold down seats. Controls are easy to understand and operate. In my opinion lots of car for a low price.

I have had my Elantra now for 9 months. Everything I researched about this car has proven out since I have bought it. Peppy engine, well appointed interior, great sound system, handles road noise well, and the best set of tires on economy class car I have ever seen. I looked at Civics, Toyotas, and Ford. The Ford product came close but the warranty on the Hyundai can't be beat.Oh did I mention a fully loaded (leather, wood grain dash, ABS, Traction control, Upgraded sound system, Michelins at 195)Elantra GT was still 3 G's less than every other car in its' class. And none had these options.

I like the fact that we got a good four door car for less than other cars with a great warranty. We looked at Kia's and Hyundai had better standard features. Hyundai matched and beat Kia by $700, how can you turn that down? Power locks and windows and A/C standard, can't beat that!

Great gas mileage, neat 5 speed, alittle gutless, overall turning radius is fine (u-Turn) on a normal street works, however it's the taillight that won't operate replaced it 5 times, not the buld, and the headlights, do not last. this is my 5th replacement, I'm a courier, so I never shut off the car from morning to night, saves on starter motor, and all the other pertinent parts, only lose about 4 mpg so instead of 30, I get about 25-26. not too shabby for a 2001, with 168000 miles so far

Handles like a sports car. Ride is a bit stiffer than an Elantra sedan, but to be expected. Peppy 2.0 liter engine. Adequate trunk space. Good stereo system. Leather seats are comfortable and durable. Moonroof seals well. All in all, well worth the money and a serious look.

Hyundai did their homework by slightly revising the '04 model with an updated interior that "works" just right! Instrument controls, seat comfort, stereo sound, quiet cabin, visibility, a/c -- all make for an excellent ride. The updated exterior is also just right and "works" to make this a sharp looking car! My wife and I are so impressed with this car over the corolla we traded in, we just can't believe we got such a nice car for the money! The review that Edmunds has given this car is right on target -- don't pass this one up if you're looking at a civic or corolla. Good job Hyundai!

Only have a few hundred miles on the car, but the driving experience so far has been very positive. We bought the GT hatchback, and the stiffer suspension does introduce road vibration -- but the precise control through turns and on windy roads is great. The automatic transmission has a lot of zip in first and the lower range of second, but bogs down a bit under acceleration at 40mph+. Rear seats are tight in terms of leg room unless the folks up front scoot forward. One nice improvement over the 2003 is that the childseat tether anchors are no longer back at the back of the hatch area...they are directly below the rear seat backs.

You get everything you want in a car like this. For example, you get a electric sunroof, leather interior, a very very loud cd stero system,. also the comfort and the speed in this car is awsome for what you need it for. beside the looks you have a car that should value over $30,000 dollars and you get in for under $15,000. Also, have I forgot to tell you the 5yrs, unlimeted milage assitants. alos theres a ten year drive training warrenty. Controls easy to reach. Comfortable on trips (3 hours +). Turns on a dime, plenty of acceleration. Truly enjoy driving it...

Fun to drive. A load of features for the buck. Leather 4 whl discs. CD etc. Feels taughter and stops much better than our '03 GLS. But also feels heavier, and maybe not as fast. I have had 7 Toyotas and sell high-end cars for a living. There's a lot of merit in these cars...especially when we bought two (one GLS and one GT) for under 25k out the door.

I bought this little car in Sep 2001, to date have put over 30000 miles on it. Gas mileage is consistently over 30 mpg (due to a 100 mile a day commute). The comfort and performance are excellent for its class. I regularly recommend it to friends, two of whom have bought Hyundai products. I regularly get comments on its styling and questions about reliability and economy of operation. I'm 65 years old, and would willingly buy another Hyundai Elantra.

The Elantra outperfroms all cars in it's class except one, The Toyota Corolla. The Elantra does not outperform the Corolla but ties it! The Elantra has a higher top speed then all cars in it's class! Since I;ve been driving my car, it gives me a reason to drive. The interior is welcoming and secured. The exterior has a sexy European look. Since Oct. 2000 I have never had any problems with my 2001 Hyundai Elantra. Not only do you get more than just an ordinary car, but you also get an unordinary warranty! 10years/100,000 miles on the engine!! Now, that's tight! Pick the Elantra, it is guaranteed to be the best choice in the class!
