I bought this car in Mau 2015 with 91k on it. I never had any issues really. Changed plugs in 10 minutes, the alternator went out, but with miles was expected. The strut mounts are squeeking, but not a safety issue. All around a decent car to have. I will have this car til it dies completely. This is my first Ford and I was skeptical. Impressive small car and great.

After my Escort ZX2 died (after 13 years) I needed a new car. After test driving several, this little wagon perked my interest. I bought it used with 86,000 miles on it in August of 2012, and since, (april 2013) have put over 20,000 miles on it. I average about 33 mpg. about 28 city, 32 against the wind, and 40 with the wind. Since I travel a lot, its great to have the cargo space and the excellent gas mileage. And when I'm home, I can haul my three kids all over the place and everyone is confortable, even with one still in a booster seat. My only downside on this very particular vehicle is that I do not have cruise control. Otherwise, its a great car.

I got this car from my brother with about 60K miles on it. The check engine light came on soon afterwards, the IMRC actuator was not working. Brake rotors wore out about every 20K miles, apparently that's normal. At 119K, IAC went bad, then everything else did too. Fuel lines, fuel pump, MAF sensor, O2 sensors, bad cat, and the brakes squealed even with new rotors and pads. It was a great car until about 100K miles, then it gave up. Oh yeah, the air filter is "lifetime" or 100K miles, then it's 500$ Poor quality parts, disposable American car. My 93 Subaru has 180K on it, runs great, very few problems. Sad American cars can't really compete with Japanese cars that are made in America

Bought my 2004 Focus ZTS in Dec 2007 with 60K. Nice car but had been in some fender bender where the front bumper wasnt installed back correctly. After eating 2 sets of 4 tires, I found out the rims were bent and it has the rarest of Ford Focus ZTS rims ( wide 5 spoke with slit in the middle) nice design though. The 4 disc in dash CD changer wouldnt work when I bought it and replaced it with a DD Kenwood that sounds great! Since it was bought, I have had nothing but strictly electrical issues, which no one can figure out. I have seen others with this make/ model have this same problem, lights flickering all the time. Overall this car has some get-up-and- go for the size engine.

I bought this car brand new. I loved it every day since. It now has 141,000 miles. The only issues that I've had were minor, until recently. Heated seat (drivers) stopped working. Which Ford fixed. Link ends on struts keep coming loose. Makes a clunking noise. The transmission died at 130,000 miles (Covered by aftermarket warranty). I thought the Alternator died a few weeks ago. After spending 3 hours changing it. I come to find out it wasn't dead. Low voltage was caused by a blown inline fuse in the negative battery cable. All in all I am very happy with that car. So happy I just bought a 2012 focus. Let's hope it handles better in the snow then a 2004.

Good car,i would like more power.

Good car bought with 44k on it. It's fun to drive but i wish it had more power& the clutch was a bit more aggressive ,if you have your rpm's up when you shift into 2nd,you have to drop them down before it will reengage. First thing i had to do is replace the lock cylinder. The car has91k on it & i have replaced the front struts right side was different than left, right side was bad. Left wheel bearing was replaced as well with the front breaks . I do use the car to tow my trailer w/ATV or mower on it about 1500 lbs,& it does well,i get about 30 mpg average.

Purchased this car in 2004 Brand new off the lot in May of 2004. In Sept. of 2004 I had a work injury that required alot of surgeries, so I did not get to drive the car that much. To date it has barely 39,000 miles on it. It is the biggest peice of junk ever made!!!!!!! I will NEVER buy from Ford ever again. I had to spend 4,500$ at 28,000 miles for a new transmission, I have had to replaced the ignition because the damn thing locked up every 5 minutes, I have to replace the tires....and they couldn't be ordinary, they had to be some special kind of tire that cost 3 times more and complete brakes, all on a car with less then 40,000 miles. I have put almost 7500 into this car, it is horrible

Purchased in 2007 with 30k miles, just sold with 66k miles. Overall a great daily driver. Got between 28 and 32 MPG in mostly highway driving. Reliability was above average - only items I replaced were front brake rotors and sway bar end links (a common problem?). Otherwise, I only performed routine maintenance at the intervals suggested in the owner's manual. Good braking and cornering feel with decent acceleration. Complaints include strange options (had PW, PL, power mirrors and remote keyless entry, but no cruise control or tilt steering column), and everything under the car was rusted at the time I sold it. Overall, though, a great value.

I have had my 2004 Ford Focus ZTS for 5 years and it has been nothing but a money sucker ever since. For the past 5 years my focus has randomly shut down while I've been driving and I have taken the car to multiple shops and a Ford Dealership, still no one can figure out the problem. I have had to replace the headlights twice every year, and as soon as my car hit 70,000 (this summer) my car basically lived at an auto shop (been in 5 times the past 6 months). My friend who has the same make, same year, has had all similar problems as has a neighbor of mine. The only positives I have to say about this car is a spacious trunk and nice interior.

Driving over the Santa Cruz mountains to work every day this car is a ton of fun to drive. Great bang for the buck. I purchased it Used in 2009 and have loved every minute. In mostly highway (commute) driving I consistently get 30 mpg. Only mechanical issue I've had is needing to replace the clutch master cylinder for $270. If left out in the sun in high heat the gauges sometimes don't read correctly after start up. Other than that I love the car. Looking forward to the new Focus ST to be released in 2012.

Within 2 months of driving off the lot abs and brake lights started blinking. Took back to the dealer and they said there was nothing wrong with the brakes but could not find the problem. Moved to ms took to another Ford dealer and got the same answer. Since then I have all kinds of warning lights and alarms and interior lights that blink and go off when the humidity goes up.

This wagon holds a ton of stuff. We are using it to go camping and there's loads of room for everything and everybody. It's a zippy little vehicle and easy to park in small spaces. Surprisingly smooth ride for such a small car. It looks very sleek ,unlike some of the SUVs we considered. Fuel economy is great. Altogether a very good buy.

A money pit. If I had to rely on this car for above average use I would have been in trouble many times. For a small car the mileage is below avg-my last trip I couldn't even get 30 mpg hwy/22-23city. The transmission fluid had to be changed at 40k - it's synthetic and cost over $200. The alternator went out at 48k-the engine must be jacked-up to release the alternator so it near impossible for an owner to do.You are looking at $400-700 cost due to labor and parts. The ignition lock seized at 45k-must be towed to the dealer to be fixed due to the anti-theft chip. Around $500. Now at 56k the thermostat housing and valve cover gasket are leaking-Parts and labor will cost you around $500.

The review by 'jonny' is spot on; I encountered the exact same problems on my SVT. Plus pieces of body trim falling off at random intervals, leaving me with no front splitter and a focus looking like a dump-truck in the front. So I traded it in on a Mazda 3 because ill-witted Ford did not bring the proper Mk. 2 Focus stateside.

Bought slightly used in '04. Opted for 2.3L eng. Great ride/handling balance. Fun to drive. V. good steering. Reliable: just brakes & some front suspension work after 5 years. Brakes could be better, but adequate. Excellent value, reliable, 27 MPG avg in interstate hwy / city driving mix. Purely on highway, at least 32 MPG at interstate speeds. Unique styling. Hard to find a non-conservatively styled hatchback. I'm discerning, yet recommend this car since I've got 101K on engine & car still works very well. Of course I maintain it well too, that helps. Good luck.

I have been totally satisfied with my 2004 Ford Focus ZTS. It is a well made, reliable, economical and fun to drive vehicle. I currently have about 85,000 miles on my car. I still have orginal brakes, clutch etc. Car has been almost problem free. Only problem has been the accelerator linkage which had to be replaced twice under warranty. That's about it. My mileages is 27/34 with an average of 30 mpg. My only wish that it was a little quieter inside the cabin when driving high speed. Not really a problem though-only a wish. Seats are very comfortable-I have a bad back too! I traded in my 2000 ZTS for this Honey. My wife drives a 2001 Focus as well.

I bought this SVT new in Nov. 2004. I work for Ford and am a Master Tech. Being familiar with the Focus, i had to snag one before they were gone. This car has amazed me from day one. Through the years, it has just been better and better. With a few modifications here and there, this car is extremely hard to beat at 4 times the money. To date, this SVT can pull 1.15g in cornering and out brakes pretty much anything short of pure race cars. I have less then $30k in it and have out performed cars costing over $100k on short courses.

This is by far the worst car I have ever owned. I bought the car about a year ago with less than 50,000 miles and $6400 in repairs later it's still not right. I have replaced the A/C compressor and condensor, the swaybar twice, gauge cluster and I have had countless electrical problems. I just noticed that the 4th thermostat housing is leaking. The car surges while driving down the road and the dual mass flywheel is constantly chattering. When the car is running it's a blast to drive, but that really doesn't matter when it breaks down at least once a month.

No thanks, Ford U.S.A.

Ford had managed to take an absolutely proper car and ruin it with their typical 'gotta-save-money-ta-build-em- trucks' economics. Mine being plagued with the usual problems such as constant leaking coolant out of the thermostat, plastic clutch master cylinder that ruined the interior 3 times over, sticky butterfly valves on their 'revolutionary' dual cam design, right...and on it goes.

This car is a great fit for me. I am 6'2" and yet have sufficient head and leg room. I have two children, and we all can fit. It is economical to operate, but still has a great 'Fun Factor'. It is stylish, but also practical. There are cars with more economy, but that are no fun to drive. There are cars with more horsepower, but are significantly more expensive (and how much power can you realistically use before you get in too much trouble). This car, for me at lease, provides the best of both worlds, and it is disappointing that Ford discontinued this type of production.

Had a couple minor problems with, but with mileage now at 135,000 and running well mostly, I can't really complain. Only problem is if I run for a while, stop for 10 minutes and start, has tendency to die on me. But as long as I stop and keep the engine running, no problem. Hope to drive it for many more miles. Runs like a new car (other than the one problem mentioned, really feels like a new car - really smooth.

I bought my 2004 Ford Focus ZX3 back in late April and let me say that I love it. I bought it with 35,789 miles and the previous owner barley drove it but it needs a little of work. It has the 2.3L PZEV engine and it is quiet. The previous 2.0 SPI and Ztech engines were loud but the 2.3L PZEV is quiet. I get around 24 in the city and around 29 on the highway and I love it a lot. Like I said earlier it needs a little of work. It needs new rotors, front wheel bearings, and the transmission fluid needs to be cahnged but other than that it's my #1 car. I previously owned some junk vehicles before but this is a car that I would recomend to someone if they need a good vehicle.

I still love this car!

I bought my yellow [bumble bee, per my husband] SVT in early May 2004 and have been driving it non-stop ever since. The day "I" drove it off the lot, I did not know how to drive a stick, so my husband drove it home for me. I am now a pro! It is a fabulous car. It still feels new to me. I have had the sunroof motor replace (under warranty), the driver's seat belt (twice; under warranty), the clutch petal cover, and the rotors and brake pads at 45,000 miles (for that I blame the Ford mechanics; in retrospect, I do not think they needed replaced). There is not another car I want ... until the new model Mustangs come out! I've read there were only 123 of these made; is that true????

Primarily a Toyata fan, this became my second Focus following an accident totaling the one I purchased in 2003. the biggest problem I have had was with a brake caliper sticking wearing out the low profile tires on the front end. Overall, tire wear has continued to be a problem I had never experienced.

I purchased my SVT Focus new with 67 miles on the clock in 8/04. As of 1/08, it's now at nearly 70k miles. While I can't say they've been entirely trouble free, the Focus has never left me stranded. All of it's foibles have been superficial. Right now it has no issues other then steering wheel wobble at freeway speeds, and even that's not too bad. Performance is superior; 0-60 mph in about 8 secs, and up to 34 mpg on the hwy are both legit numbers I've acheived. Being a hatchback has also helped, such as when I fit an entire kitchen table with the seats folded. Overall, great car for the money, and no regrets in purchasing it.

This car is the complete package. Sporty, well-appointed, practical, and comfortable. The engine has two personalities: docile and tame in normal driving, with excellent power when revving past 5500rpm. Great for the track, but it is a little hard to extract fun and performance on the street. Also surges when cruising. Aside from this, it's a great-looking little car with decent back seat room, and phenomenal cargo room for a compact. The handling is amazing considering its refined ride. Everything works, no rattles, and is thankfully very low-key as a performance vehicle. Mileage isn't impressive. List of features is excellent for a small car, and yetrelatively inexpensive. Highly recommended!

When I bought my Focus I was looking for a reliable affordable car to get my kids to school, me to work and to the supermarket. But I have to say it is really a pleasure to drive. It responds quickly and tightly to any kind of situation. Smooth shifting, great mileage, and a fun ride overall. A fun fun road trip car. And after three years of a NYC commute and transporting teenagers it is still in excellent condition - not a tick or a sputter. I did my brakes and will do my shocks but this is totally chalked up to NYC roads and driving conditions.

Originally, I had wanted an SE, since I didn't really need all of the extra junk that the ZTS has. However, since it was the end of the model year I ended up getting a good deal on the ZTS. The 2.3L engine is quite peppy for a 4 cyl, and the car handles like a sports car that costs thousands more. The interior is quite comfy and can easily hold four people without much effort. The trunk is surprisingly large, probably due to the height of the back of the car. The styling of the car is okay I guess, but I am not much into that sort of thing. My only complaints are that the fuel mileage is very disappointing for a supposed economy car, and it seems like the exterior scratches easily.

What a great car! Having owned SVT products in the past, I have always been impressed with the performance, handling and all around fun factor of these cars. This Focus was no exception. That being said, it does have it's "quirkiness", mainly that the engine has an emissions-control function that makes the revs hang in-between shifts and that the dual-stage flywheel takes some getting used to. However, these are easily corrected by a "tune" for the ECU. It also adds 10 HP to wheels and allows you to scan for DTC's. The car handles extremely well for a front driver. You can actually get it to four wheel drift!! I have the EAP package-a must have!

Love it!

I bought this '04 SVT back in August of last year in Nebraska, flew in signed the paperwork, and drove back to Ohio. I was not dissapointed. This car is fun to drive, great mileage, and with a few mods, you can up the ponies and the performance for just fraction of the costs for other vehicles.

The version has power and PZEV to boot! I was glad to finally turn in the mini van for this. Its always fun to drive. Only things I've improved was to change the radio from 6 dish CD to Mach 500, 6 disk and new speakes. Added cabin filter (it really works well). High performance rotors and pads.

I traded in my manuel Protege for this so my wife could drive also and hated it from the start because it was boring and I didn't have trust in Ford cars. Now it's my work car and after driving it more I have learned to love it and trust it. It's had zero problems so it's my hero. Just wish it was a manual with a cd player and power windows, but its the base. Overall this is the best vehicle to have for a work car. I hope it stays this good for the next 50k since its got 50k on it now.

Bought it because my partner had 2 Foci and thought it a great car for the business. Big change from a BMW 7 series. What a great car, changed the springs right away to H&R Sport, major improvement in handling. Upgraded the sound with Boston Pro speakers. 17" custom rims and 50 series rubber. Full header and sport exhaust, throttle boy, intake make about 20 more ponies. Excellent changes and what a car now, handles and rides well, goes better and is fun to drive on trips. Now what we need is the European 5 cylinder, or 140 or best of all the Diesel Focus. Next improvement: Spax shocks and cross brace. Maybe a Jackson or Powerworks supercharger. :)

After doing my homework on this car I had to have one. The SVT is the most fun to drive for under $20k. For that little itch inside that we all have, it has that punch when you just want to shoot around a slowpoke in traffic. The ride is right on, not too stiff yet enough to throw it around a corner when in a hurry. Stereo is awesome for a compact car. Tire class is right up there. If you're asking for more then you're asking to much. Interior room is comfortable for such a small car. Even for backseat passengers it is capable of comfort. The sunroof and leather bolsters around cloth seats gives it a taste of luxury. Suspension is A+. There are affordable bolt-ons that make it even better. A+

I bought this car 'cause I couldn't afford another economy car on the lot. I really do like it. I live in the big city and getting through traffic can be fun. The 2.3 is a definite plus. Quick and nice high end performance. Cornering is great also. My main drawback is the stiff suspension. I've had two back surgeries and the ride is quite bouncy. I'll try new shocks and tires, this car is worth the investment! The interior is very nice for us also. All within easy reach. I will admit though. This car is more fun to drive than comfortable. Would like to have both.

This car has mechanical problems. The front stablizer link went bad at 30,000 miles along with the wiper motor &cooling sensor. At 50,000 miles the doors would lock when the car was not running & would not let me back in,neither with the key or the remote. The gages would flip and wig out when it rained. The car would jump out of gear and down shift and the gear shift would not move out of gear.Loud knocking noise coming the front and re end. When I would take it to the Ford dealership they could never find any problems when they would drive it,but How could they hear anything when the AC would be on full blast and the radio on.They thought I was Crazy. So I bought a Toyota

I've had my 2004 Focus ZX3 for a little over a year now and so far no problems. I've heard Ford had fixed all the problems in the previous model year Foci into the 2004 models and it's pretty obvious. The 2.3L PZEV engine is very torquey at low RPM ranges, around 3,000 rpms, which is practically everyday RPM ranges. Very smooth ride, nice interior, and beautiful styling. Fuel economy isn't as great for a car this size, however. I calculated an average 26 mpg city/highway driving, which is what you'd expect from a larger vehicle like an SUV. But the 2004 Focus is an overall great car to drive that's actually more reliable than the previous model year Foci.

We purchased our Focus as a commuter but we use it so much more. We never buy 4 cylinders with automatic transmissions, but here it's perfectly mated. Steering is direct with good on center feel. The 2.3L PZEV engine is refined and responsive. It's quite roomy and the hatch lends SUV utility. At 40,000 miles, it has been totally reliable. It's solid, tight and remains an absolute pleasure to drive. Plus, the Audiophile in-dash 6CD stereo package is amazing in such an inexpensive car. It's also reasonably quiet, although better sound proofing could make this car nearly perfect. All in all, a dynamic, fun, surprisingly premium experience.

The 2.3 engine is not as economical as the 2.0 but it is quick and smooth. Optional features such as moonroof and/or sports package give car a lot of character. Stock radio with cd has great sound. Heat and air work great. Trunk is larger than it looks and with fold down seats can haul many things. The more passengers, the better the ride. On the down side it has blind spots during rain and snow storms and does slide causing higher insurance premiums. Vehicle braking is slow but has been improved in 2005 models. Color choices are fair. Wipers don't overlap well causing restricted view at times (fair weather car). Overall affordable fun to drive small car with a lot of room inside.

I was really looking forward to owning one of these cars, because all I had heard was positive feedback (car of the year, reliable etc.). I have had numerous problems with the car, first and foremost having to replace the transmission within the first week of ownership! Then before it turned 2 it overheated and had to be towed to the dealership. Also, the clutch to the a/c had to be replaced. I think I got a lemon and will replace as soon as possible! Don't take the chance on this car!

Since April of 2005 I have had a problem with the ABS and brake light, was not fixed correctly until December 2005. The emergency brake cable snapped, the speedometer was replaced, my windshield was leaking (was replaced before for a defect in the factory glue that holds the rubber seal), a piece of the arm rest keeps falling off! The button to lock the rear power windows gets jammed all the time, fixed once before, still getting jammed! (This was a brand new car when I bought it). More new problem occruing. too much to list. I do enjoy the design of the car, but there are just too many problems with it.

Today is my SVT's 2nd birthday, so I thought it deserved a review. If I had rated this car when I first got it, it would have scored lower, as this car just grows on you. I am but months from 50, and I find this car just a blast to drive on a daily basis. I have 6 cars (2 Porsches) so that's saying a lot! The "fun-to-drive" level is just off the charts. You can tool around getting great gas mileage, or punch it to the 7200rpm redline for big grins. Just way too fun. And the brakes are world class (I run some Baer and Wilwoods), as is the handling. Reliability has been superb. If you ever get a chance go buy one of these, they are just way too much fun, while remaining totally practical!

I love the extra 'kick' the 2.3L engine gives over the LX & SE versions, especially when passing the slower drivers in front of me. I'm glad I bought the '04 model before they took away the character of the car with the '05 model, like the homage to the Ford Oval in the dashboard vents, etc. The driver's cockpit has a nice tight feel to it & the location of the all controls is great. The car handles well, even at higher speeds (70-80 MPH). I never feel like the car is going to break away from under me. I haven't had to do any major work on the car & I'm at 34,000 miles in 19 months. The power sun/moonroof adds quite a bit of fun.

This is the car with *the full package*. Not just shoving an S/C or turbo on for bragging rights, this car runs like a tuned European car WITH [some] torque. It handles, brakes, sounds (thumping stereo!), excellent road feel, and rides comfortably. Excellent daily driver for those on the go -- hatchback capability and room is excellent. This car is for people that know how to drive and wants a relaxing, involved driving experience. Unfortunately, not everyone knows how to drive and yet utilize the full potential of their car, hence it's demise :(. Only thing to look forward is most manufacturers have taken notice and are integrating SVT DNA into their lineups for better cars.

Bought a year ago and absolutely love the car. Unfortunately Ford decided to drop the 2.3L in the ZX3 for 2005 which I believe was a great combination. I had a 6 cylinder Ranger that sucked gas and this car does better but not great. I tend to "drive" the car and get around 24 mpg city without the A/C on - average, not bad. The car only cost me $10k brand new (with rebates and A plan). I've spruced up the interior a bit as there are many aftermarket items out there for the Focus which personalize without being gaudy. Fun to drive. No problems to date - go out and buy one used if you can find one. Make sure it is a manual to maximize the fun factor. Did I say it was fun to drive?

My model is the "premium" ZX3 with the 2.3L engine. It is fully loaded and I picked it up for $11,500 with only 11k miles on it. If you don't have this engine, you are missing out...it really makes the car. I was looking for a hatchback to replace my truck and had one of these as a rental. I liked it over the Honda Civic Si, Golf/GTI, Protege5, Mazda3 hatchback, etc. Great handling and performance (145 hp), and decent mileage (24/30). Decent build quality for the money; couple of minor problems so far.

The vehicle handles wonderfully well. It took to the Pacific Coast Highway with agility I would not have expected for a car at it's price level. It also impressed me when driving through Flaming Gorge on the way to Las Vegas. I did not experience any loss of power while running the AC. In city traffic it is very responsive. The standard transmission could feel a little more solid -- there is a tiny bit of detectable "give." I haven't had any problems with it except that my first oil change had to be postponed due to the new oil filter not having saturated the market yet. A chrome Harley filter could have worked.. but... :-) The filter is amazingly accessible.

I've now had the car long enough to fairly evaluate it and there's really nothing to gripe about. I sold an F150, wanting better mileage, and had driven the 2.0 engine and decided to buy this because of the 2.3 that became available. This car feels like a sports car, it handles great, is very quick for it's class. The 2.3 engine has 145 hp and responds right when you want it. The five speed is very precise. I don't like automatics and manuals like this one are the reason why. I'm an older guy who is an enthusiast and recommend this car to anyone who enjoys driving responsive cars and still needs a back seat. I have the sport package with standard brakes but recommend the anti lock upgrade.

The SVT Focus is a blast to drive. It does two things exceptionally well - going fast and cornering. If that's what you're looking for in a car, buy one. This car will turn corners at speeds you never though possible, and is very stable at speeds that will get you arrested rather than just a speeding ticket (if caught). For basic transportation, there are better choices, though. The car is not very roomy, the ride is a bit firm, the engine is loud, and its a Ford. Also, for its size, the gas mileage is terrible, and it requires minimum 91 octane fuel. My SVT five-door is my daily driver, and I'm very happy with the purchase.

The quality of interior materials is only so-so, however; my car had numerous trim defects. The hood is of too-thin metal and lacks an underside pad. The heater fan is noisy on higher settings, and using air con saps engine power considerably, esp. in 5th. The car is a little slow off the line (in 1st), but picks up in the higher gears. With the sloping hood it's hard to see the corners of the car. Overall, for the money the '04 Focus SE is a great buy.

Bought used with 19K miles on it. Read reviews thoroughly--thought I had made an informed choice. Knew before buying that car is prone to eat brakes. No big deal--replaced with life time warranty set. Now, at 26K, car has just spent a full week at dealer for 3K in warranty repairs to transmission. Before taking to dealer, took to local garage and was told that this model has had 'a number of issues'. It's fun to drive, but I won't buy another Ford. I love my Hyundai Sonata--better warranty and, so far, more reliable. I'm worried about what is in store for me after the 3yr/36K warranty expires. Another transmission at 50K?

Although we have only put on 6900 miles so far, I am disappointed with the fuel economy (5 speed manual). Much of our driving is rural and we are seeing generally slightly less than 30mpg. We are still driving our 1995 Ford Escort Wagon 5 speed manual with 220000 miles that is still getting close to 40mpg (summer). Owners manual said to wait until after about 5000 miles to check mpg, which we have and still hasn't improved.

i test drove almost every "hot hatch" avaliable at the time, and none could compete with the overall package Ford has put together, i have had this vehicle for almost a year and have no major complaints with anything. there have been a few trips to the dealership to work out PCM (computer) issues, but these were offset by the driving pleasure this vehicle serves up with every trip!! if you are in the market, i would definatly recomend snatching one of these up before they are no more. and spend the extra $$ and go with the Euro appearance package, the Recaro seats alone are worth the price!!

I purchased a focus ZTS in 5/04 it has been serviced 4 times once for a recall on the heated seats & 3 times with a fuel gauge problem their seems to be a softwear problem our 1st problem occured after filling the tank the gauge stayed on empty the dealer said ford told them to clear the computer memory & put in a new code the 2nd time we again filled the tank this time it read 1/2 tank the dealer replaced the sending unit the 3rd time the gauge stayed on full after 150 miles then after 200 miles the gauge read between full & 3/4 when it should have read at half tank because when we filled up it took 8 gal with a 14 gal tank now they say the float wasnt set properly on the sending unit

I rented one out west and found it to handle super on flat desert as well as through the high country. I literly fell in love with the car. I was very pleased with the price and the rebaits. Nice driving feel suspension control. High praise, considering that I drive a Porsche on sunny days/weekends. Not the cushiest, most refined car in the world, but a LOT of bang for the buck. Wagon has more usable cargo space than any small SUV. My car is fully optioned out (as cheap VW Jetta with better performance). Regrettably, the wagon can no longer be purchased in better than SE trim. Worse, Ford no longer sells the 2.3L PZEV engine in the wagon. The 2.3 is way quieter than the 2.0; it drives MUCH better than its #'s would suggest (and its #'s are a lot better than the 2.0's). If you need a wagon but like the '05 ZTS performance, seek out an 04 ZTW, rather than an 05 SE.

Having owned Ford for years I had no doubt it was going to be good. KNowing SVT and what they could produce I was a bit shy about a front wheel drive sports car. Over all it is a blast, the handeling is not as good as my SCCA Mustang but awsome for the road. The only down fall is the clutch. It is a performance clutch so like to be in or out and does not like stop and go traffic. The ride is not as stiff as you would expect it. Expect understear when cornering hard. When all is said and done I was impressed with what SVT has done with this little car and bould buy another one.

Styling is eye catching and I get a lot of nods on the road. My SVT is fully loaded and the sound system is probably my favorite feature. The auto volumn control is top notch as well. Great car for the price and I would recommend this to anyone.

When I first told my wife I was buying a Ford Focus, she just about died laughing! When she actually saw it and road in it, she changed her mind very quickly. I traded in a 2000 Nissan Maxima for this little rocket and I have never looked back. For what I paid for this car, it has to be the best money I have ever spent! Glad I got the last production year available. Not that it will be a collector's item any time soon, but I should have no problem selling it down the road. No plans to add any Mods to it. I am a purist at heart.

I have had my ZX5 for less than 1 year and I have gone through 4 sets of brakes and 2 sets of rotors and drums. I have had it in for repairs more than I have actually had the vehicle in my possession. It has been in to have the brakes fixed 5 times, and they still have not found what the problem is. Now, on top of that, the transmission is starting to slip gears and shift extremely hard (it is an automatic, there just isn't an option for that in the choices). Now they are telling me that they have to completely rebuild my transmission. I would not recommend this car to anyone due to the poor quality and that Ford refuses to make any needed repairs.

This is a real sport utility vehicle. If you live in a large city like I do (Chicago) you need a car that can fit the smallest spot and can carry all of your things when engaging in your annual move to another apartment. The audiophile sound system is bar none and the exceleration for a sub 20K, 4 cylender car is exceptional. People may smerk when you have a focus (those that don't know what an SVT is) but when laying the smack down on an eclipse GTS, passengers soon realize that this focus is on roids.

I have a 2-door SVT and the only problem I have experienced is with the driver's seat. If you drive with the seat bottom raised up in the back, you have to remember to lower it if you pull the seat back forward to let someone in the back seat. Otherwise, over time it will rub a place in the lower seat cushion. The Ford dealership where I bought my SVT is replacing mine free of charge this time. The service writer at the dealership agreed it is a design flaw. Now all I have to do is tie a string around my finger and remember to lower the seat cushion when I have passengers for the back-seat. :}

The focus is a great car with awesome handling, great steering feedback and(with the 2.3L engine) good performance even with an auto tranny. It's quite zippy, handles very well(mine has 16" wheels from the factory) and sips gas pretty good when not being abused. Round town I get about 27mpg and on the highway, i can get up to about 32mpg.

With about 2000 miles on this car I have no quibbles. Quick, nimble, fun to drive. Decent mileage. Plenty of acceleration for city or highway. Fit and finish were very good. Not what I expected from an American made car. I first heard of this car when I drove one in Spain on a vacation. It was a diesel and I hadn't a clue (no telltale engine sounds, very peppy) until I went to fill it with gas and saw the diesel sticker. The handling of the American version is quite similar though. Really like it.

I've had the car about a month now. So far so good. It is an automatic with the sports package. I would have liked some other options; ABS,& Moonroof. I also would have prefered a 5 speed, but that's what happens when you buy a leftover. You have to take what the dealer has. I did get a good deal though; $12,500 + tax & tags. Not bad! It's comfortable & quiet for a small car. The handling is good for a 4 door of it's size, but not as good as my Nissan 200SX SER (Auto), or as fast. I must say though that the Focus rides like a bigger car. It must be the 103' wheel base.

are met by this little SVT Focus. I haven't had it long, but can't resist reviewing it with a rave. I have been looking at it and others for months. I was going to wait for the new mustang, but just had to have this little silver 3-door svt. The last one in my area and a good deal did the trick. The SVT embodies just the type car I have always loved: small, high revving, great handling little rockets [vw scirocco, fiat 124 spyder, 131 brava, 128 4 dr., new beetle - well the last 2 weren't rockets]. It has not disappointed. It's fun to drive. The styling is just fine. Car and Driver magazine is right about the 10 best; this one sure belongs.

I like the front end design better on the 04 than on the 05. They shouldn't have changed those headlights. The folding back seats are wonderful, I use that space all the time. I was worried about the power of the focus (especially after coming from a 6 cyl mustang). But to my surprise this little 2.3L engine puts out decent power for its size! It acutally feels a little more responsive on the low end than my mustang. The only time I notice the difference between the 2 cars is when I floor it on the highway. And even still the focus does a good job at getting up to speed. It's spacious, Economical, good looking, comfortable, and just feels right!

First week I have purchased it, the fuel bump went bad and had to be replaced (about $230, the car dealership has replaced it). Two more months and the alternator went bad ($120), so both the alternator and the battery ($60) had to be replaced. On top of it all, the wheel got stuck one day and the whole key set ($200) had to be replaced. My car has been towed three times in the first 5 months that I had it. Also, the a/c, when is turned on, does take away the performance of the engine... the car does not go as fast as if the a/c was turned off.

I purchased my 2002 Focus used. It has been an absolute pleasure. The hatchback and split rear seat offers great cargo storage. I have been able to move all sorts of stuff. My boyfriend is 6'4" and fits very well into the car. People are usually suprised about how roomy the inside is for a small car, and ther comment posativly on the design. Mine is a 5 speed and is a kick to drive. Peppy and responsive.

I have not had a single good experience with this car. It leaks when it rains hard, the braking system sucks, (I have been told it the type of brakes it has), the window adjustors fall off all the time, handles terrible in the rain, and snow. the manual handles for the windows were put on backwards, I could continue.

I recently traded in my 2000 Focus ZTS when I purchased the 2004. My wife has a 2001 LX also. The Focus represents probably the best overall value in a car today. My experience has been excellent with this model. Prior to my Focus, I only purchased Toyotas. I routinely average 31 mpg with about 65% highway. I suffer from lower back problems and the Focus seats are comfortable for me. I have found these cars to be very relable and definitely fun to drive. I highly recomend the Ford Focus.

I don't make a lot of money, and so price is the first thing I look at. Gas milage is second. I wanted to get rid of my clunker and find a reliable new car that I could feel safe and comfortable in and yet looked ultra- cool. Enter the Ford Focus. The roomy interior easly accomidates me and three friends plus luggage. The steering is ultra senstive and its got plenty of power and speed to aid in any driving emergency. I get between 25 and 35 mpg. I haven't found a car that's easier to drive or more fun! It's excellent ride on short and long trips is definately a plus. It's no secret, the next car I buy will be another Ford Focus.

I have the ZTS model which offers an incredible amount of power. The pickup is outstanding. The car handles like a much smaller vehicle; it hugs the corners and takes on unforegiving roadways remarkably. I have both a Japanese small car and then this car. The Focus has turned out to be a reliable, economical and outstanding on gas vehicle. I would recommend it in a heartbeat---particularly for someone who does not want to spend a ton of money.

I really enjoy driving my car. I dont have any options in it other then AC, CD player and cruise becaues Im 6'7 I can reach across the car easy. The only suggestion that I would have would be to maybe add a hood scoop. It is a sporty looking car and It would appeal to the teenage and younger crowd if you had a hood scoop like the mustangs, and maybe better city to highway mileage. 30 city and 35-40 highway would be able to compete better with the foreign cars in the economic standpoint.

I love my focus! My wife had a 2001 zx3 when they came out with the svt after driving the zx3 three I new this was something I had to drive. I loved the way the zx3 handle and it had a nice amonent of horse power. When I new i could aFord a new car. I had to test drive the focus svt. I was in love if i could get a so called nicer more pricy car I would have to pass. This car moves on demand the only thing I would ever drive is a more powerful focus. I didn't just buy a svt zx5 but also bought a zx5 for my wife to replace her zx3. Because now we have to kids the focus svt zx5 gives me the fun of a sports car and the comfort to carry my to kids in style.

I've had the SVT about a month, and it has met my high expectations. For the money, nothing can touch it. Drove it 1800 miles up and down the Oregon coast, and had too much fun... the only car that could stay with it was a 740i that took me on an uphill passing lane... The car is docile around town, but when it comes on the cam, it's like Jekyll and Hyde. My brother has a Cooper S, and the SVT has equivalent performance, a better ride, a usable back seat and costs $6K less... the Cooper is cuter, though. Only problem has been that throwout bearing noise, which seems to be chronic with these cars

i was expecting to settle for a plain car, due to my financial limits. but this 2.3liter engine is very fast. it has more horsepower then my huge (in comparison) sable wagon had. the only areas of concern is lower gas mileage then expected, but perhaps that is because i like to drive it hard. the a/c is weak and blow dust and leaf debris thru the vents. love the new stereo system that lets me see title of song playing.

I have not owned a compact car in 25 years because I like performance and a little more comfort. I recently rented a Ford Focus and was really impressed. So impressed that I visited a Ford dealer and drove a ZX5. It was even better than the low end rental car. I bought it that day. The acceleration, comfort, smoothness , quiet ride and features were a genuine surprise. It is also fun to drive. It's more like a little sports car than a compact sedan. It has more features than expected for the price.

This is a great car at MSRP; with current Ford rebates, it's a steal...but not for much longer, '04 is the last year for the SVT Focus. It's a terrific driver's car with superb steering, handling, and brakes, and a strong engine (though power delivery could be better). Early Focus problems seem to be worked out; build quality is great and the SVT is tight as a drum. It's a blast to drive, but works as a practical, roomy hatchback too. I'm surprised it hasn't been more popular--its price and quality make it superior to Civic Si, GTI, etc.

Overall very happy, but the clock is the pitts! What was Ford thinking! Mileage is still a disappointment, 21- 22 in city, and I traded a 6 cylinder for this 4, but it is peppy. Love the space inside. Saw other complaints of no crossbars on roof rack, mine came with them and I want them off! Too hard to wash the roof and I will never use them.

This is my second Svt Focus, and my fourth Svt Vehicle(two Lightnings). SVT vehicles are the best blend of engineering you can buy in a production vehicle. They build a "balanced" package. Performance, style, handling all in one vehicle....Amazing! I was going to wait and buy another Focus Svt in a couple of years...sadly, Ford is no longer going to make this vehicle, when I found out I ordered another one.

Good for a mule- we use it to load up the commuter miles. Otheriwse- I hate it. The fuel tank only holds enough for about 300 miles. We've taken it to the dealership to get stupid stuff fixed already and it breaks again. Also- we can hear the transmission slipping every once in a while... and we aren't harsh drivers. Wonder how long it will last-- good for cheap transportation that's fairly reliable for its class. Very uncomfortable if you are planning long trips.

This car is worth every penny, especially with the generous rebates. All the magazine reviews are correct. The car handles and brakes like a race car. Although the SVT Focus is sluggish at low rpms, it comes on forcefully (like a turbo) at mid to high rpms. It has a nice exhaust note that's not offensive like aftermarket ones, and the telescoping and tilting steering wheel allows for the perfect driving position. The performance, practicality, utility, and fun to drive aspects of this car are unmatched. If you can find one without the unnecessary options, buy it. I got mine (no options) for only $16,700 out the door! Definitely a no- brainer.

I loved my Focus the first year, great handling. After that, I started having problems with the engine. They told me I was using the wrong gas (premium is bad, regular is good), and need to clean it up, my fault so no warranty and they charge me around $550...4 months later, problems with the brakes, pay $500. 1 year later, I problems with brakes again and some with engine injection. The injection, I suspect was the same old problem, but now it was a re-call (It has like 7 recalls since I bought it) the brakes cost me another $650 bucks. Know I am selling it, and believe me I not getting another Ford, much less a Focus.

I was kind on the fence about this car - I loved the styling and handling, but was underwhelmed by the motor. The Zetec is kinda crude and not too powerful, especially when you drive it back-to-back with Hondas and Toyotas. Then, I drove one with the new Mazda- built 2.3 - what a difference! This motor is a little jewel - smooth and powerful, with a nice little growl as you hit 6000 RPM. Mind you, this is no WRX-hunter, but it's plenty quick enough. To top it off, I got a ridiculously good deal - almost $4,000 off, plus a 5/100,000 bumper to bumper warranty.

My wife was looking for a new car and evolved to VW, BMW and Audi. I'm hard core Ford and just couldn't seem to really get into her choices. Then one day I saw this Focus ZX3 SVT at the Ford dealer. We took it for a test run and fell totally in love. Great driving experience. But she doesn't like the looks. Fronts great. Wheel well treatment and profile lack sporty appeal. Overall all call it a hi- profile go-cart that got cut short.

I love my Ford Focus. I was sceptical at first about buying it but I am so glad that I did. It is so much fun to drive and is so easy to control. I think the seats are absolutly comftable. My next car. Ford Focus ZX5. Never liked ford before, but I love this line and will buy it again. Its so good on gas, and it rides like a dream. I would recommend this car to anyone!

It's a nice little car. After driving an accord for the past 5 years, we bought this as the 2nd car, but felt better and smoother than my 98 Accord, so immediately made this our primary car. getting about 21 mpg in the city which is quite good. It is small but roomy enough for my family of 3. Also it is very quiet. My friend (owns a lexus sedan) claims it is quieter than his lexus.

My son was driving his 20 day old 2004 Ford Focus at 50 mph when suddenly a vehicle shot across the highway from one parking lot to another. My son braked and slammed broadside full force into the other vehicle. Although he was injured he was able to walk away from the crash to obtain his own medical care. Our insurance settled at slightly higher than what we actually paid for the car. Had my son been in his 1991 minitruck he most likely would not have survived. The Ford Focus literally saved his life in a crash of this magnitude.

Overall I am very happy with the car. The pick-up is pretty good, especially for a 4 cylinder. It's very spacious for the price. The gas mileage is what I expected (based upon Consumer Reports rating) at about 24 mpg overall. The one thing that I dislike is when only the rear window (especially right window) is down 2-4 inches and travelling at 45-50 mph there are strong cavitations pounding the ear drums. This can be alleviated by opening other windows though. ZTW offers a lot more car for little price increase over SE wagon.

This car is great. It has good looks with comfor and and most of all great features such as hid headlamps and a indash six cd changer with subwoofer. I previously had a 20th anniversary gti but actually like the svt focus more in regards of the options it comes with. It even has a nicer closer shift than any other stick I have driven which includes a hist of great cars. Great price for a awesome car!

This car lives up to all the positive reviews it's earned from all major publications. It's a total hoot to drive - and you get a $2500 rebate to boot! This car flies, handles like a dream and is functional too - guaranteed to put a grin on your face. The only bad news - you may not be able to find any 2004s left - maybe a 2 door here or there.... and Ford isn't making a 2005 SVT Focus (go figure). If you can find one, don't hesitate - buy it. My car has the audiophile system and sunroof, all for under $18K after the rebate. And you get to blow the doors off almost all the Civic, Eclipse, Impreza and Jetta drivers out there.

The Focus' European heritage is evident when I hear the "thunk" when I close the doors, and when I zip up to 40mph on Sunset Blvd in a flash. The only time I need 1st gear is when leaving a standing stop uphill. It is so quit that I've trained myself to look at the tach before turning the key. Is this an economy car?

My Ford Focus is a very reliable car. After having a foreign sports car that had problems from the beginning, my domestic Ford helps me to feel safe and I know everyday that it'll start every morning. For someone who drives A LOT, this car is great with gas mileage. This was my first car that I actually paid for and Ted Britt Ford helped me out a lot in making this a positive experience. My svt focus is a treat to drive. It fares well in the handling/cornering department.Brakes seem to have little fade during normal use.Power could be better with more torque, but it is plenty powerful for the street.Interior amenities are good with nice side bolstering on seats for hard cornering.Radio/cd player are decent in sound quality as are the speakers and sub.The wheel and tire package sports a great look with performance to match. All in all, this is a cool ride to run around in.

Great car, super fun to drive, holds the road and curves like a sports car. Comfortable even for me at 6'-1" Decent if not great fuel economy. Road noise is there, but similar to any small car. I have 2003 ZX5 Premium with sunroof in Egg Yolk Yellow. It gets admiring looks and feels more expensive than it is. After rebates, it only cost me $12,500. It could definitely use more power. If I were to buy a 2004, I'd opt for the 2.3L 145-HP engine and leather seats. Leather would make it feel like a car costing twice as much.

I just bought my second Focus, and I probably will never consider another make of car. Just getting in and out of it is effortless; no small thing for an old lady. It's just the right height, rather like sitting in a regular chair....instead of sitting way down close to the ground. I commute 80 miles per day on the freeway, so this car is perfect...it has great response time, and can accelerate very quickly if needed. It is also extremely maneuverable and easy to park.

I liked the 01 but not the noise & lack of power. Ford really improved upon the car in 3 years. My 04 is sweet! Rides great; no noise at 80mph. Bumps are like gentle kisses. 2.3 fast. Black of course. Pirelli P6s are nice too.

I am absolutely in love with this car! I had to drive 200 miles to get it, since Villa Ford didn't want to do a dealer trade(don't buy from them), but it was well worth it. The drive up from Anaheim to Santa Maria was relaxing. To add to my satisfaction the car was washed and ready to go when I arrived. My ZX5 is charcoal grey w/ the 2.3L PZEV, a/t and everything else but leather(since the premium cloth is excellent). I traded in an 03 Mustang V6 with no regrets! It provides excellent handling, a smooth ride, and ample interior room. The 25% insurance savings helped too! Arguably one of the best Fords, make that CARS, on the road.

I have gone through such models as the SE, ZTS, and now the ZX3 Premium. I purchased my first focus in 2001 and haev traded them in every year becasue Ford has made imporvements every year on them. It trully the best economical car out there!

I really like this car better than the Civic and Corolla. The car is quiet and smooth. The 2.3 litre engine pulls nicely and is very quiet. The handling is very satisfing. The draw backs are the design for rear seat entry is confusing resulting in messing up the seat back angle adjustment. I also think the engine deserves a smoother gearbox which does not compare to my old Accord's or the new Honda's gearboxes. I wish the hatchback had 6 inches more available for loading. It fits my bicycles but the length is tight.

This car has everything and more expected from a Ford vehicle. even though subaru makes a faster car i dont see it being as nice as the svt, and not to mention its 5000+ dollars more price tag. The car i own is equipped with the european appearence package, and wow is that worth the money. if anything ford is selling this option to cheap. all in all the best car i have ever owned, (even though my last car was a 1991 porsche 944 S2!)

I was really sceptical about this car when qwe went to buy it. I thought it would be under powered and un comfortable. I am a big person over 6' tall and weight to go with it. To my suprise you could adjust the seat to fit even my size. My wife fell in love with it but i was still leary. After a couple of weeks and driving it myself, though I dont get to drive it veroften it's "Her" car, my mind was tottaly changed. It is very peppy for a four banger and a blast to drive. Another huge plus is the stereo rocks. Over ll this car is awsome.

A wonderful vehicle to drive with good handling and peppy engine. We have had the previous Focus wagon(2001) and loved it for it's reliability. The new wagon with the PZEV engine is a step up in performance. A good choice.

I would still recommend the Ford Taurus as a well built, safe car, but the Focus is a well built smaller more affordable car. You need to get the top model in each style to get the larger engine (2.3) which makes all the difference. The standard sound system with MP3/CD has great sound. A moonroof is great but the sport package is not needed.

WoW! The New Partial Zero Emmission 2.3 liter engine from Ford is a real treat. Not only is the engine much more powerful than the z-tec it emits close to no harmful emissions. Emission related components are covered up to 15 years or 150,000 miles! The zx5 interior is exceptionally roomy and its dash is stylish and well laid out. The cd/mp3 player is great. The hatchback design coupled with the four doors makes the Zx5 a real family car. Access to all seats is good and there's actually alot of room behind the rear seats for groceries. Fold down the rear seats and you have a ton of useable space. In all the zx5 is great@!

I had a horrible buying experience at Earnhardt Ford in Phoenix, AZ, but thank goodness I ended up with such a great vehicle! The gas mileage is great and it drives so smooth and sporty. I was originally looking at buying a Toyota Matrix, but decided on the Focus instead because of the value. It is a more affordable car with virtually the same features.

i had one problem after another with the focus. after it got about 5000 miles the fuel economy was about 12mpg instead of 33mpg. I had to have brake work done 4 times while I had it. In the end I traded it in and only got $5800 while i still owed 14000. I would have to say that I would never buy another Ford Product.

I have owned many Ford products from the Bronco II, Thunderbird, Bronco, F250 Super Duty 4x4 Truck. As you can see we are a Ford family. I bought the Focus ZX5 four door because I really liked the look. I love my car it is great on gas mileage and driving it is a pleasure. It is sporty enough that my 15 year old son wants it when he turns sixteen to paint on hop it up. It is also roomy enough for the whole family to ride. We do alot of traveling and it does great.

Was going down the Honda Accord path but wanted to be different, save $$$ and answer the need for 'More Power Captain'. Family and friends that have high mileage cars have had better luck with Fords vs. GM cars for Major Buck type repairs (IE A/C, transmission, engine mgmt), so I bought the Ford. Great car with more room than expected. If you appreciate Upgraded Engineering on everything that matters in a car built for performance, buy an SVT, otherwise by a car with a turbo and a spoiler bolted on. Rock On Ford!!!

The SVT Focus is hands down the most fun I have ever had behind the wheel of a street car. I've been the owner of a 300ZX TT and a Supra TT and for a time I drove a Renault Clio V6 Sport on a daily basis. While all of them are faster, none of them have been more fun. While the car does has some weak areas, it certainly makes up for them with its suspension, gearing, and overall connection with the road.

Purchased this wagon Jan. 04. Have 2 main concerns for this vehicle. Fuel economy has been on low side, have filled up 2 times since delivery and have only averaged 24 mpg with a majority of driving done on highway around 60-65 mph. Will wait and see on this as vehicle "breaks in". The luggage rack only comes with two longitudal bars on either side of vehicle, cross bars must be purchased from Ford to complete assembly. Kind of like buying laceup shoes with laces extra. Otherwise OK.

Better than dodge by a mile.

A fun car to drive great performance 1/4 mile numbers for it have been so different but my personal experiance with my car and im a avid drag racer legally of course know that the three door which no one seems to test for god knows why is way better than a five door counterpart in performance issues anyway i havent even seen a five on the streets only three so write about it instead as far as the neon goes if i slapped a turbo on my focus which by the way has a smaller motor and is naturally aspirated and still keeps up with the dodge the focus would smoke the neon srt-4.

I have had my Focus ZX-5 (5-speed manual) since April 2002 and have been happy with my decision to purchase this vehicle. I put a lot of miles on the car initially so I have about 20,000 miles on the car, and reliability has been very good, with no trips to the dealer other than for routine maintenance. The car handles well, and has a good amount of power for a 4 cylinder (16 valve vetec). The front seat position is higher than most cars, making for easy entry/exit and providing good visibility. Fit and finish are very good. Mileage is about 26 city, 32 highway. At this price point this car is hard to beat.

This is a joke of a vehicle. My cousin bought a new Focus. From day one she had problems with this auto. During her first 1000 miles of driving the transmission needed to be fixed three times. At 1800 miles the battery failed. At 2700 miles - the brakes failed, yes at 2700 miles the brakes failed. Her dealer was useless. The zone representative was of no assistance. She will never buy a ford and I would never own one either.

I recently traded in my 2000 Ford Escort ZX2 in for a 4-door Focus SE sedan. This car has plenty of room for up to 5 people. I love how you sit high in it with a clear view of the road in front. Love the sunroof and the in-dash 6-disc cd player..they are awesome. The 2.0-liter Zetec engine is peppy with the 5-speed manual, but still lacks the smoothness and precision of some of those import cars, but road noise is very minimal. This car handles great..seats lack back support. The brakes are dissapointing in this car..reminds me of the escort again. Overall, a great car for the money/value.

i would just like to say that i have had my focus for a year and there isn't one thing that i dislike about it. it's the most practical car and the steering makes you feel like your driving a race car. it could be a nice family car, or it could be a sleek sporty car. whatever your needs are the focus is the best choice!

I'm a big guy - 6'4" - and laughed when the dealer told me I'd find the Focus comfortable, but he was right. It's so much bigger inside than you'd ever think, and I've been really glad that I bought it. It's a reliable, zippy little car. Great for commuting, great on gas mileage. Huge trunk. I'd recommend it to anyone.

I truly enjoy my Focus. Great reliability, handles well in the snow. Super on gas vs. mileage. Only problem:water seeps in the trunk when trunk door is pulled open after it rains or went to the car wash but it's the only problem I have encountered with this little jewel.

fast, smooth transmission, handles like a sports car, small outside but big & roomy inside, rides as smooth as a large car, excellent visibility and high seats that can be adjusted, well made, traction in wagon improved by moving spare tire and heavier items onto the back seat or on the floor, long trips are non tiring, well named as a 'fun' or 'zippy' car, but get the extended warranty.

We really enjoy the car. My youngest daughter is the primary driver. Since we have owned it, several of my co- workers have purchased one for their teenagers. The handling is quick and the car has a nice feel on the road at highway speeds. The sound system is nice and the seats are comfortable. We like the fold down rear seats as we can fit the snow boards inside.

I have a 2001 Ford Focus. I have the high performance tires on the car which suck if you live in the Northeast. They are horrible on bumps and have had bubbles in them caused by hitting potholes. Hello this is the notrtheast. If the tire can not take potholes then don't sell cars with that type of tires in the northeasr. sell them only in phoenix. I have had constant emission problems. Thank god they were covered by the warranty. The paint has rusted & chipped out by the trunck. Which was covered by warranty. At 40,000 miles my starter went and i had to pu a new one in .

I bought in 6/00 a brand new Ford Focus 2000. To make the long story short, I have had to have 5 fuel pumps put in the car. Has left me on the street, shop had my vehicle for 3 months, could not figure out what was wrong with it. Co worker at work has similiar problems that I had, she has traded the car since. Her vehicle was newer than mine.

The Ford Focus was purchased because it looked like a "cute" car. Once we began driving the Focus, we realized it was more than just looks, it was small enough to fit into those tight parking spaces, yet has room inside for the crowd. The trunk, well it's very impressive, we could fit 2 baskets full of groceries inside the trunk! It's so fun to have this car, and I am sure that you will agree.

I got a Focus for Easter because my parents were tired of sharing their vehicles with me. This is the best car I've driven for the past 3 years. It's fun to drive, easy to get around in, and doesn't take much to fill the car up. The most I've spent on fuel since I purchased the car was about 13 dollars, and it lasts me a week and a half or so. I live with my parents and brother, and we chose this over our van to go on weekend trips. It's the perfect car for a teenager, because it apears like a young and interjetic car. That is exactly what it is, as well.

The Focus is the best vehicle I have ever owned. First one was dealer model out of the showroom day after it arrived in 10/99. 11/03, traded it in with 97,000 problem free miles. Completed all maintainence requirements. Original brakes lasted 87,000 miles and only utilized 3 sets of tires. A reliable vehicle that's fun to drive. 2004 ZTS is more fun to drive, zippier engine and interior upgrades copmared to prior Focus SE. The third Focus also purchased on same day, retiring 1991 Mustang now owning a 2003 Focus SE. Trunk space is large, able to pack family of five with plenty of luggage for long haul trips.

The SVT was not a car I had considered but a pushy salesperson was all I needed to get me in the driver's seat. Needless to say I was impressed! I would probably say that performance was the most important thing (after price) when I was looking for a car. And while the SVT has decent acceleration, it really shines in the handling department. It's very solid, has a well-rounded bunch of performance upgrades (brakes, gearbox, suspension, engine, etc.), lots of little visual sporty touches, and surprisingly versatile. The back seats fold flat, which is nice for when I need to take my bike places.

I leased a 2-door Ford Focus for three years. I loved the car. It handles like a charm and is exceptionally roomy for a vehicle of this type. I drove it cross-country. It was comfortable and pleasureable to drive. I just put gas in. No problems. In fact, I liked the car so much, I bought one when the lease ran out...the 5-door model (4-door + hatchback). It is well designed, very dependable and a great family car. With the back seats down, you can carry almost anything. This car is a smart buy.

2 kids and no more Mustang opted 4 a wagon over an SUV and didn't want to pay much: frugal CPA. Handles fine, nice pickup 4 a small engine (had 2 Mustangs since 17). Inside is ok in fit however I am 6'3" 275 with a 56 jacket size & 23" arms (competitive strongman)(I can not fit in the yupo BMW 3 series or Audi). The stereo is great: Blaupauk that is standard CD MP3 player. Just wish the rear seats fell flush when down. Looks exactly like Volvo V40 (Ford owns Volvo) for 10K less minus sun roof & leather seats. If you need a slant on your front grill 4 10K more go 4 it. My wife's 2 friends have the Volvo & they even said it is same just less frilly.

This car is a delight to drive and pleasure to own. I've been able to haul considerably large loads in it - to my satisfaction. It consumes a bit more gas than it should; my 15 year old compact sedan consumed far less even in its last months. It has a tendency to reach high speeds before I know it; hard to avoid speeding. The upholstery is poor, but the seat is comfortable for me. I had no options for better tires so the ride can be rough at times.

I come from a large family where I've had ample opportunities to own various vehicles, which have mostly been imports. I took a risk with the Focus, and I am suprisingly happy. I am an extremely demanding owner, and I couldn't find even one flaw the first 60 days. One exception was the inaccurate fuel gauge tha left me stranded for 1/2hr. Otherwise, much larger than it appears and very fun to toss into curves/corners. Granted, it's no BMW like my other car, but much more rewarding than a toyota or even honda. Hope there's more of this from Ford.

Incredible for the money!

I got my Focus when a fireman returned from the wreckage of the World Trade Center and decided life was too short to be driving a Focus hatchback -- even one with the Euro-tuned suspension and ALL the goodies. So he traded it in for a Mustang. I've driven both, and the Focus ZX3 is much more fun, functional and funky. Two years later I still sneak into the garage to admire it. Save for one bad start, it's been as reliable as a gas stove. Inside, it's roomy without being a hog on the road, in parking spots or at the gas station. In short, there's a reason it's the only "cheap" car on Car and Driver's 10 Best List four years running.

Willing engine, superb suspension, excellent braking, loads of interior space, very well equipped (heated seats and mirrors even). Yeah, it could use more hp but it certainly is quick enough. High initial quality for a small car.

I think its a great car, I was really impressed with basically, everything on, and with the 03 Ford Focus ZX3. I believe everything should test drive it, to know how great this car really is for a ford vehicle. Acually any vehicle in the 03 ford focus price range for that matter.

i've owned my svt focus for a year now and i am glad it came with a warranty. the first visit to the shop cost about 1,300 bucks. it was all covered under the warranty including the tires that needed to be replaced because of a deffect in the sidewall cracking.

Although the vehicle listed is new, I can not tell what the reliablity is going to be. Given the fact that I have owned other Ford products, I would assume this would not be a problem. The car is constructed well with much attention to detail. It is fun to drive and handles well. I would like to see the larger motor be put in all models. Pennsylvania subjects vehicles to extreme conditions (hills and valleys) as well as snow and ice. Extra power is important in these conditions. So far, I am very please with the Ford Focus SE that I have purchased. Thanks Ford
