Bought this 2004 Ford F-250 new , had problems with it right away . Alternators go out like crazy , egr valves bad , turbo problems , turbo hoses blow off , terrible gas mileage , hesitatation issues , oil leaks , hit 60,000 miles and sold this lemon off to some poor unexpecting sap .. Told him the truck was bullet proof and was awesome !! Ya Not !!!!!

never will I own one again

My 2004 F-250 diesel, 79,292 miles, has been at the local Ford dealership since Sept. 7th. There are so many diesels broken down, mine did not get pulled into the bay for work until the last week in Oct. It is still in the bay waiting an engine as of Nov. 11th. Over 2 months in the shop. They changed the oil prior to diagnosing blown head gaskets, could not confirm if water was in the oil pan. Diagnoses was to replace the head bolts, gaskets, EGR cooler, rebuild an over boosting turbo, at a cost of about $3,000.00. After the heads were deemed unusable, the cost went to $7,5000. With coolant possible in the lower end, I had to replace the engine- $15,500.

Any web search of the infamous Ford Diesel will let you know, its not if but when you will be spending a lot of bucks to rebuild the engine. Removal of the entire cab is necessary to gain entry to the engine. A defective EGR, Oil Cooler or over boosting Turbo Charger are all blamed for the head bolts stretching, and allowing the heads to left when the compression gets too great. The fix is spending $3,000 to $8,000 for new head gaskets, checking or replacing the heads, $1,000 to rebuild the Turbo. Replace the oil cooler and EGR, just in case. The 2008-2010 get terrible gas mileage and the 2011 needs a urea tank filled every 3,000 miles

We lived at 8500' elev. when I bought the this truck w/6.0 Diesel. It produces a lot of power at hi elevation. Easily hauls a 3 ton Bobcat on utility trailer up hill. The injectors are sensitive to dirty oil and fuel. Had to replace injectors after ruining them with biodiesel extended oil changes. Upgraded to Elite Diesel Stage 1 inj and new flash. Now change oil every 3000 mi or less, use Seafoam fuel treatment, and engine is much happier. Burnt up one alternator at 84,000 miles. Replaced it myself in 10 minutes for $200. No other repair problems. Mileage around town is 16-17 mpg. Highway is 22-26 and truck is comfortable on long trips.

Purchased with about 18k miles, ran well up to 2009 - started blowing oil filter off(and all engine oil out) - thought I had put filter on wrong - happened again and this time burned up turbo - Spoke with a mechanic - manufacturer of engine put faulty head bolts on engine - head started lifting up and pressure backs up into the cooling and oil systems - had it repaired (new head bolts, head gaskets, oil cooler, turbo and bypassed egr) now runs great.

Have had several ford Powerstrokes over time, the 6.9, 7.3, 7.3 turbo, and now a 6.0 By far, the 6.0 has to be the biggest peice of crap ford ever closed a hood over! Yes, I bought this truck used, but after hearing the problems that most other 6.0 owners have, I know that this engine is just prone to problems. My truck leaked oil from the day I bought it, 10 times in the shop and it still leaks. You also can't keep injectors in this truck. try $7800 for 4 injectors, and another attempt to patch an oil leak. did I metion they have to pull the cab off the truck to do just about anything to it? EGR valves, turbo replaced, 4x4 hubs replaced. Its Junk! and I have only put 20,000 miles on!

Truck has 90,000 miles. Have replaced two alternators, two turbo-chargers, one air conditioner compressor, and one left front wheel assembly. Now, radio stays on after you turn off ignition. Dealer says it needs a new $525 radio. Don't think so... Change oil every 4,000 miles and all maintenace is done. Disappointed in repair history and worry about future repairs.

Purchased this truck brand new. Will never buy another Ford for any reason. 3 months after purchase the power steering would go OUT every time you stepped on the brake which made it impossible to drive in a parking lot or with a heavy load. Complained to dealer & Ford rep they refused to fix an obvious flaw. I also was afraid to drive the truck with any heavy loads because of the brake/steering problem. Explained to Ford & Dealer that this could seriously injure someone and they could care less. Finally got tired of fighting with them and traded for a different brand of truck.

Bought my first 1997 used F-250 diesel. $2700 injecters/$4000 transmission/a few thousand here and there for misc. After around $10,000 in repairs I thought "guess I better get rid of this truck". (and because it had developed a miss) I thought, "maybe because it was used?" So I buy a new 2004 and thought my problems are over. (some of you 6 liter owners are laughing with me (or at me) truck has 40k; been in shop between 20 to 30 times (several times there were no tickets) fuel injection problems, computer problems, turbo problems, new alternator, new fuse box, and the list goes on for miles and miles (unlike my truck, which is back- firing and missing now (3rd or 4th time in shop) Now its a quest. I bought this truck to tow my 5th wheel RV. I've towed with several Expeditions in the past, this is my first diesel! Kudo's to Ford, the top selling pickup in the world...why? Because it gives you what you want a truck for. Towing, working, playing, great performance, great quality, no problems, reliable and good fuel economy! Try towing a 11,000 lb trailer with a Honda or Toyota! Not! All I've had to do as far as maintainance is oil changes, fluid changes, tires, batteries, etc. No reliability issues what so ever. Truck looks great, accelerates like a bull charging a matador, and gets twice the mileage as the Expedition I used to tow with. Seats 6 full size adults, too!

After initial warranty period lapsed, I experienced several major repairs. Air conditioner ($1,500) compressor and related equipment because the front of the compressor popped off. Replaced left front wheel assembly due to grinding noise ($1,500). Oxygen sensor on exhaust went out and computer has been readjusted a couple of times. Diesel Engine (6.0) is strong, but not fuel efficient. Would recommend the purchase of an extended warranty to protect your investment. I would purchase Ford F250 again.

I just bought my truck. I bought it used as a company truck. I love the truck it is really different from the half ton GMC sierra that I was driving. My Ford is clean and looks good. It has so much power. It is quiet and does not run like a diesel. It has great pick up. I pull a large tool trailer and a large trailer usually loaded with lumber. It pulls these trailers with no problem. I often forget I even have a trailer hooked up. I love my 4X4. It has gotten me out of several sticky situations. I added some after market BF Goodrich dueller a/t tires it really looks good. I ride high and get to see things that I never would have seen in my half ton.

This is a great truck, but it is a truck. I have had many F-150's that were great trucks, did everything you wanted, but you couldn't plow, except with a joke plow. If you could get a little closer to 20 mpg it would be within reason. Is there an overdrive for the overdrive? You need a kidney belt just to go over a speed bump. It is nice looking, not as nice as an F-150, 1997-2003 era. It is nicer than a new F-150.

Bought the 6.0L diesel, nothing but trouble; 6 injectors,1 turbo charger and exhaust tube, wiring problems at my expense now along with EGR valve, and continual door latch problems along with weather molding problems. Seems sad Ford in Detroit acknowledges problems but has no fix; told me not to drive it too much! More shopping around coming up - have had Fords for 30+ years, NO MORE. Cannot hold 65- 70mph speeds without engine shutter, no problems found by techs, and not the tires either!

This is the second lemon Ford pickup I have bought and it will be the last I lost thousands of dollars on the first one, a 1983 F150; bad engine 3000 miles - in shop most of the first year I owned it or should I say it owned me. Ford was indifferent to my pleas for help then and things have not changed a bit. In 2004 bought F250 Harley Davidson model. Broke down on road first 400 miles. Been down hill ever since than with a laundry list of problems a/c blows on windshield whenever it has the mind to. Transmission slips out of gear in first, When fuel applied it bangs back hard enough to rattle your teeth. Bad tire on truck - Ford points finger at Goodyear , Goodyear points finger at Ford.

I felt the need to rate this since I found no v10 reports in here. I have only owned this a couple of weeks but enjoy it very much. The ride is stiff but what do you expect from a real truck. My previous truck was a Toyota Tundra which I liked very much but I needed a truck to haul a 5th wheel and Ford is it. No problems so far though it did come with 29 thousand miles on it. So I am hoping all the bugs are worked out. I do enjoy the the power and acceleration the 6.8 has and noticed no difference between the '04 and '06 I test drove. But it seems to take off and stop funny like on stilts or a sloppy tranny but will take that up with dealer.

This truck was everything I thought it would be. That is until the recall notices arrived. #1 was for a transmission problem that required the dealer to keep it for four valuable workdays. Following that visit, the "check engine" light was off and on intermittently. #2 visit was for a electrical harness problem. It required another four day visit to the dealer. Again, following that visit the "check engine" light was back on -- this time for good. When I called dealer, I was required to again take it in and leave it! Unbelievable. And to top it off - the only rental car available was a compact American car. Customer service means nothing to Ford once they've got your $$.

Bought a F250 Crew SB 4x4 in 9/04. Since 4/05; replaced front hubs (not releasing), replaced whole transmission even after recall fix was made 2 months earlier. Now in shop for engine problems, no power & thick black smoke. The 2004 has POOR turning radius, 2005 is smaller. Dealer has been great, but I think I got a LEMON! The diesel has the power but my unit does not instill confidence on a long trip. I've just been lucky my major part failures happened close to home. I used to trust Ford and recommend Ford, but not anymore.

The test drive must have been on a really smooth section of freeway, because this truck delivers a kidney-bruising ride. Heck, I can't even use the cup holders because my coffee splashes out all over my nice leather. But the real killer is this: with only 3,000 miles it developed an oil leak. Now it's in the shop for the 3rd time (about 1 month that I've paid for a truck I can't use). The shop says they've pulled the motor out and are going to have to separate the bottom half of the block to replace an oil seal. I am disgusted since I'm sure the leak won't be fixed. Save yourself the hassle, get something else. I sure will.

I went from a F-150 to the F-250 diesel. Man, what an improvement. This F-250 has great power. Better fuel milage than my F-150. It still could do a little better. I am averaging 15. It handles better with a trailer than the '93 F-150. Brakes are better. I would make minor changes in the front bench seat. When the center seat is down in the armrest postion, small items can fall from the front seat to the back floor board. My entire family calls this pickup "The Semi." Great feeling pulling up to a stop sign beside other "inferior" pickups. Ford could have made a full flow oil filter for the transmission instead of a bypass filter. Great truck!

We drove enery kind of truck made before getting an awesome deal on our new F-250 King Ranch Diesel. Was great until at 1100 miles the starter went out. Then at 2400 miles the truck would start to die out when you would take off (computer problem, they said). Now that everything is working properly, we love this truck. It pulls a huge two-horse trailer with a loaded tack room and you don't feel anything. King Ranch is the way to go execpt when you accidently hit the seat warmer and here in Florida we really don't need those.

Good truck overall. The brakes are exellent, interior is spacious and well thought of. My only main complaint would be the fuel effiency. Driving carefully in the city I dont get much more than 10 mpg. I would by this truck again if I had to.

Searched and compared. Have a 2 horse straight pull trailer with dressing room to tow. Trailer GVW at 7,000 lbs. Ordered F-250 with 3:73 gears, tows very well and gets better than average milage for it's size. Solid and hefty. Handles the trailer nicely and was ordered to do so. Rides well either empty or working with a load.

New Ford 6.0 deisel Harley Truck. I had the truck shut off in cruise control at 50 mph. Scared the heck out of me. I had the dealer check and found that there wasn't a operating system in the truck and it would not up load. I took it back three times and once to Myrtle Beach Ford they also said they could not up load. The truck shut off on me three more times. The milage went from 9.1 to 15.6 I was happy with that. Finally on the 5th or 6th visit they were able to upload from a satilite. The truck runs better than ever but my fuel milage went to 14.3. I really don't understand that. For a 48,900 truck these problems are driving me nuts.

I've got 4500 miles on my new F250 with the 6.0 diesel. Driving to work the other day, the engine quit. Just quit. No warning. Truck's been in the shop for over a week, and even the Ford engineers don't know what's wrong. My last F250 was gas. It ran like a Swiss watch (over 100,000 miles). Got 14 MPG on the gas V8, getting 15-16 with the diesel. $4,000 buys a lot of gas. Rear end problems too. Looks like the dealer may have to take the truck back (lemon laws). I don;t recommend the new 6.0 diesel. I should have stuck with gas...sorry now I didn't.

Love my new Ford. THe 6.0 Deisel is bad to the bone. It toes like an ox and has throttle response like a gas motor. I looked hard at Chevys. I pulled along side of a decked out Chevy deisel and it looked like a grocery-getter compared to mine. 45 grand is alot to spend on a truck, but when you hit the gas, you know where that extra money went.

THIS DIESEL HAS MORE POWER, AND MORE TORQUE THAN ANY TRUCK I HAVE EVER OWNED. IT'S GETTING 15 MPG AROUND TOWN. I HAVE ONLY 600 MILES ON IT SO FAR. FUN TO DRIVE, QUICK, RIDES GOOD, BUILD QUALITY IS EXCELLENT. THE CREW CAB 4 DOOR IS GREAT FOR HAULING ALL OF MY GRANDCHILDREN AROUND. TOWS MY TOY TRAILER WITH EASE.SO QUIET INSIDE YOU FORGET ITS A DIESEL. BEST OF ALL I SAVE ABOUT 20 CENTS A GALLON OFF FROM REGULAR GAS, AND GET BETTER GAS MILEAGE. 5 YEAR 100,000 MILE DRIVETRAIN WARRANTY IS GREAT. I LOVE IT.

I've been planning on buying a new truck for a year now. Have always loved Ford's trucks and I think the F-250 is as good-looking as any out there. The 6.0 turbo-diesel is awesome! The noise level is very acceptable (i.e. quiet) the ride height of the 4WD crew cab is great and the power.....FANTASTIC! I've only burned half a tank so can't give mileage figures, but my Lariat's onboard computer says I'm getting 15mpg and half of my miles have been stop and go in town. The other half is split between interstate and country backroads. The fold down platforms under the rear seats provide a perfectly flat storage area. Not cheap, but worth every penny!

Could not find here a proper column for reviewing my PowerStroke DIESEL F-250. But: surprisingly quiet ride. However, the first 500-700 miles - it took to an automatic transmission between 1-2 sec. to engage in Drive, and up to 4 sec. to engage in a Reverse. Was ready to go back to dealership to have it checked. But after a break-in, this problem has disapeared by itself. The F-250 diesel is more than a truck. It's a dear toy, too.

I bought a new F250 4x4 because of prior experience with a 2000 model. After test driving the other 2 makes with diesel power, I liked the new Ford the best. The 6.0 w/ 5 speed auto work great together. The refinements on the 2004 models fill the voids that the earlier models had. The biggest thing I don't like is the addition of a catalyst to the exhaust. The smell from it is dreadful and very sharp almost acid like to me. I have to idle a lot and the fumes are drawn into the cab. On my truck the cat will have to go. With some radio upgrades to match GM's bose/xm system this ford could be the ultimate practical truck.

After 45 days they tell me to pick up truck but they still dont know what the problem is. They replaced wiring harness but doesnt know if that will fix it. After getting use to the mirrors its very easy to see everything and the large size is no problem. Parking in small spaces is the biggest draw back. It's much easier to back into parking spaces than try to turn in. Just set up high and watch the world go by! Plenty of room inside. Very comfy! I replaced the stereo speakers and added more power. Everything is great now. The engine and trans is a real winner!

New transmition is very smooth and the downshifting to aid braking while towing 13000# of boat is quite nice. The f-250 diesel is quite a truck. It pulls my 28'trailor very easly, rides a smooth as a car, and has a very good sterio system. I used my truck to pull my trailor elk hunting, over three passes each way. I passed all brands except the Ford brand going up the passes, while it stroked up the hills. At or below freezing, at night just plug in the built-in block heater, and you have engine heat in about 3 minutes. This truck is for Colorado, if you live in California, its just too much for you flatlanders, sorry.

Basically a solid truck. Handles well for a large truck on road and off. Could be a lot quieter inside. CD player distracts from the noise quite well. Radio does not. Reception and clarity on the AM/FM is the worst I've had in many years. Could use more power and fuel efficiency. At purchase I decided that the deisel cost too much and the V10 was way too thirsty. BIG MISTAKE! Despite the expense, I should have sprung for the deisel.

I just purchased my F-250 in 10/04 and have about 2K miles on the odometer. I can already tell this truck is a keeper and feels like a long, lost friend. Since I need a tow vehicle, I splurged for the new 6.0 Diesel. Power is smooth and quiet. Tranny is great! Handling is good (for a real truck). Build quality is WAY behind the imports - sounds like tin can, low quality plastic, vinyl, rubber, carpet and leather. Although everything functions properly, it needs an updated interior - climate control, radio, navigation, etc. Do I like it? No. Do I love it? Oh yea baby!

I was shocked at the fuel economy of this vehicle. It is a diesel with the manual transmission. It regularly around 20 mpg. This is better than any other vehicle that I have owned since the 80,s. That includes a T-Bird, Expedition, Mustang, Buick Century, and Explorer.

vehicle will not accelerate at high elevation. injectors have come apart filling crankcase with diesel, which if not noticed in time can cause engine to over accelerate and explode.

I cannot imagine anyone wanting anything else after driving mine. It handles like a dream, has all the creature comforts of most cars and can tow almost anything. In fact, when I have my 6,000 lb boat behind it, I hardly realize I am towing anything. There is simply no comparison to the F250 Superduty. Ford is king when it comes to builing a truck.

Too Soon for this one

This truck had a recall on it right after I bought it. The CPU had to be reprogrammed because the truck ran like @*$%(crap)! Give ford awhile to fix all the kinks before you buy

A very good running truck with plenty of diesel horsepower and torque to pull the load. Good riding on highways with excellent fuel economy.

Nice vehicle, has one major flaw. Rear seat design is terrible. No person would ride longer than 5 minutes in this totally unacceptable seat. With a seat this bad, know one should buy a crewcab 4 door pickup.

I absolutely love this truck. The V10 has great power( not like the 6.0, but 5000 dollars less). The Fx4 off road package is a great option. The interior may not be as modern as the new F-150 but it is adequate, and still holds true to being a truck. Suggestion to prospective buyers: If the diesel is out of your price range, go with the V10. Going with the V8 may get u a couple more mpg, but you sacrifice alot of power. also, the large towing mirrors realy cut out the blind spot in normal driving.

best truck around...

I just brought this 2004 F250 Crew Cab 4x4 with the new diesel (6.0). I had a 2000 F250 Crew Cab with the V10. I pull a 14,200lb. fifth wheel. All I can say is Turbo Charged. Wow what a big, big difference. I love it, way more power & better gas mileage. But they need to get up to date in the interior. Better quailty leather seats, air vents in the back, dvd player, dual climate control for the front, automatic rear view mirror Lighted running boards. Just step up to the plate. The excurisions come out of the same plant as the super dutys. Put or offer some of the other great features.

I just bought the truck, and for the price, its well worth it. With rebates, etc, you can get a 3/4 ton ext cab for less than a half ton of anything else. The styling has everybody else beat. Gas mileage is poor, hopefully it will get better with time.I like how easy access for maintenance the underbody is, too. A bit stiff ride, but hey, that's why you bought a big one, right?

I recently traded off my Duramax. I only had it for 7 months. Hated it. I needed a truck that could hold up to a lot of work. My Chevy was always having problems. The trans. went out at only 15,000 miles and I was always having little things on the interior break. Locks quick working, power seat quit working, etc. All my friends kept telling me that I needed to get a Ford if I was really going to work a truck. I did and I will never go back.

i love my ford!!!

This is the Ford's Answer to the AValance without the rattling sounds. I can live with the 8.5 MPG since my Ranger XLT Super Can only got about 13 MPG Highway. Added Poly Snow Plow and LCD DVD System aftermarket. Bought cash and let monther nature pay me back. I baby this truck and will never let it be left alone for too long. Bought LOJACK with best available homing device and immediate call system to 20 numbers. The only knock on this truck is that it has no rear Cig Lighter plug in for the kids cool games and laptop while in back seat. One word is that this truck is classy but not overbearing. Sorry, nobody drives it but me.
