Looks and runs great but it's a rust time bomb!

I purchased this older vehicle to replace my money pit 96 Suburban and considered getting rid of my car as well. While replacing the exhaust I found that the frame was rotted out in the back behind where the tail pipe muffler was located. This discouraged me greatly as I had heard these vehicles had this issue - but mostly the tundras were affected from what I've read even though it's the same frame. On the outside you would never know and even looking underneath you wouldn't see it because the exhaust system is hiding it from plain view. I contacted Toyota and they opened a case only to tell me that this vehicle was already serviced for this reason in February 2013 for the frame issue where they removed surface rust and treated it. It appears that the frame is rusting from the inside I think that they didn't treat the passenger rear corner because of the exhaust would be in the way. I thought I had purchased a dependable vehicle only to find out that it's a pile of scrap now. It still drives great but I purchased it to tow which I will not do now - I hope to get rid of it before this rust time bomb explodes.

I bought my 03 Limited with 60k miles. Today I have 175k. I changed the timing belt at 105k (book recommends at 95k). Average 15.7 mpg. It does like to use brake pads, but nothing unexpected from a large SUV. I get it serviced at the dealership and keep the regular maintenance. The rear window motor went $500. It went a year later and I have not repaired it. Other than that this vehicle is reliable. I am confident taking long road trips with it even at 175k miles. My family of 5 and 2 dogs and all the luggage fit comfortably. My wife wants to replace it with a new one, but I see no need. My heart will be heavy the day I part with this vehicle. 10/27/016, It now has 195k. Took it for a 6k road trip last summer; Phoenix to Michigan and back with much wandering in between. Just last week had to replace the rear gate latch for the second time ($508). This Sequoia is still the best money I have ever spent.

bought this truck used in 2009, i wish i knew how many miles, anyways we always traveled back and forth from Houston to Louisiana, in '10 we got a new battery, in '12 we replaced the alternator. We recently sold her because we got 3 new vehicles and this truck was almost at 200k miles and needed some tlc, we just did not have any money in the budge with 3 other car notes. But this baby was a joy to have and we always felt so safe inside. The day we let her go was just hard to believe, but we do hope she will bring joy to another family or something

I love my truck BUT...

I love my Sequoia. I think it is the best looking of the full size SUVs and I usually get 18-20 mpg which is good for an 8 seat SUV. However, I have not found my Toyota to be as well built as my Honda's. I am constantly replacing interior trim pieces that and have replaced all of my interior door handles. My overall maintenance bill his higher with this vehicle than with my Honda's too. It it is not an O2 sensor dying or a CV boot splitting it is my bushings for my rack and pinion steering or something else. This thing eats break pads like dessert. Nonetheless, I still like the truck but just have some $ set aside for maint.

Just purchased my Sequoia used as a second vehicle. Spent a lot of money on new timing belt, serpentine belt, battery, replacing transmission fluid, etc. - which I anticipated and I am OK with all that. Seat belt retracter and gas gauge that failed right after purchased disappointed - but I still hung in OK. The big surprise that completely turned me off was a replacement ignition key (just the key!) to replace the lost key that did not come with the vehicle - $628 quoted! Unbelievable. From what I understand, an electronic module has to be replaced to work with a new key. Knowing that up front - I would not have purchased the Sequoia.

I love my 03 Sequoia

We bought our 'o3 Sequoia new and have put over 105K on it since. My wife loves it and doesn't want anything else. I never thought she'd adjust so easily to such a large vehicle--no problem. The thing is rugged--we hit a guard rail at about 60 mph when we first got, and although it did considerable damage, we felt completely safe--it could have been MUCH worse. This was the only 4 wheel drive that could get out of our neighborhood during this winter's blizzard in Northern VA. Our neighbors were cheering us as we blazed a trail up the street. I'd consider getting a new one--if I could get my wife to give up her old one!!!!

I'll give it an A

Bought new. Has been a great people hauler and very reliable. The only think I had to change was the VSC computer, expensive $1400 or so. Other than that it was routine maintenance. Original tires didn't last, replaced with Michelin's and they look great after 30k miles. I am trading in now for something a bit smaller and got good value even though its a big SUV in the times when that's not cool anymore. Have averaged about 15-16 miles per gallon since we got it in mostly city driving so really can't complain. Someone will be getting a great truck.

I love my Sequoia.

I have enjoyed owning my Sequoia. I have had it for six years. The only problem I have ever had with it is the rear window not going down. I really don't use it much so to me it is no big deal. It is not great on gas, yet I like everything else about it. It handles like no other vehicle. It hugs the road if you really drive it and respect it like it is big and heavy nothing compares to it.

This is one of the best vehicles I've ever owned. Smooth ride, powerful and unbelievably reliable. Most comfortable seats of any car I've owned. We have 140,000 miles on it now and runs like the day we bought it in 2003. Sound system still sounds great. Only problems have been fuel gauge that sometimes doesn't work and VSC lights come on sometimes. Would like if second row was removable.

We purchased it used, at a great deal, two years ago. We've put 25,000 miles on it since and couldn't be more pleased. Works great for our family of five. We've had no problems so far and love the way it drives. We get a little over 16 mpg through the hills and mountains of East Tennessee.

Overall the sequoia has been reliable and comfortable for long trips. But it's not the Toyota quality I've come to expect. Not just the car but also the dealer service. I bought without looking at other suvs - mistake. Quality issues: - glass breakage sensor has never worked - gear indicator lights (D, N) burned out - rear window has been fixed 2 times - rear door handle broke on a ski trip, making it impossible to open the hatch - OEM tires were awful - causing the car to feel misaligned. Toyota denied issues. Dealer finally admitted others had the same issue. Fixed with a set of duelers. - within the 1st year driver window started sounding like it was going to fall out.

120000 mile on SUV to date. Thankfully, warranty covers new VSC board. It did not cover all my time wasted (5 visits) at the dealers trying to figure out why the interior VSC light and brake light kept coming on. Now, at 115,000 the brake light comes on intermittently. When light is on the truck brakes differently and it scares me. Happened in the snow a few weeks ago. Engine must be restarted to reset the brakes. Kinda tough on the highway in the snow. I bought a Toyota for reliability, it's been anything but. The oil gauge quit working when I drove it off the lot, brand new at $48,000.00. Took 3 trips before they could fix it.

Problems with vcs, trac, abs lights coming on and medal grinding noise when making a right turn, it has been taken in several times to the Toyota dealership and they can't figure it out, read all the reviews about this problem and decided not worth the hassle and felt very unsafe driving it, returned it for another vehicle, 2006 gmc Yukon what a shame for being a Toyota; had a Chevy 2003 suburban for 6 years 120,000 miles, not one problem other than fuel pump, should have kept it!

Well, it's true what they say... You get bored with a Toyota before you HAVE to buy one. This car is running great, with routine care. Just changed the serpentine belt, brakes ( sadly more often than I'd like, as this is supposedly a heavy vehicle ) tuned up, and it is ready to go another who knows how many miles. Headlights are frustratingly dim, despite bringing in to the dealer. That is probably the worst thing I could say! It is AMAZING in the Connecticut winters, runs smooth, I don't even worry about reliability. Hauling kids, boats, dogs, this Sequoia handles everything. Almost afraid to think about another car maker. Wouldn't hesitate buying a higher mileage Sequoia!

Just turned 100K for 2003 sequoia and pretty good truck. Have had a few recent issues with the VSC light and needed sensor replacements as well as timing belt at 90K for about $1500 but other then that, pretty reliable. I have four kids (two in college) and we use for trips back and forth. I hope to drive and put 250K miles...

Overall the 2003 Sequoia is a very good family car, but lots of issues. Here is a list of problems and you'll see 3 of them are the same type of problem! 1) Inside door handle broke (was replaced while on warranty). 2) Gas gauge on the instrument panel is no longer working and reads empty when it is not. 3) Left rear passenger "Inside door handle" broke (not on warranty) 4) Back door window won't roll down 5) Right front passenger "Inside door handle" broke 6) Back door hatch "Handle" broke and now cannot open the back door at all. These door handles are just cheap plastic and would think Toyota should be replacing them by something stronger?

Great vehicle all around. No issues since the day I bought it. Just regular Maintenance. I would say the tires that came with the truck are junk. Soft rubber the promote smooth ride but they were gone after 28k. Switched to Bridgestone Revos (fantastic tires). Got 60k out of those and now working on the 2nd set.

I have a 2003 Sequoia Limited with around 74,000 miles. I am the sole owner and have used this to haul children, dogs, trailers and boats up in the mtns. It was been a fantastic car for our family and I think the best "Large" SUV out there in terms of capacity. Even with the 3rd seat, you still have plenty of storage as opposed to many others (Expedition, Land Cruiser, Explorer, etc). The exterior styling still looks fresh after 5 years (I prefer it over the new ones) and I always feel very safe in my Sequoia. The only downside is the side storage compartment (needs a better closing mechanism) & of course fuel economy but unfortunately that is standard with large & small SUVs. :(

We purchased our Sequoia used and love it. We have always wanted one and have no regrets. It isn't that bad on fuel as we had anticipated, not too bad at all. If your considering it, do it! I don't see how anyone wouldn't enjoy this vehicle. They look great, ride smooth and are very comfortable. Although, I would try to get a certified one. Not that you may have to use it because the quality seems outstanding, but it's better to be safe. you can never go wrong purchasing a Toyota!

I live in Toronto Canada, we are a family of 5 and ski regularly so we get lots of extreme weather. The Sequoia is excellent in the snow, feels very safe under even the worst conditions and is solid on the road. Everything works well, there is a lot of storage and the Sequoia gets excellent mileage for a 6500 lb vehicle. This is a true 8 passenger SUV but is very nimble in parking lots

This vehicle is underpowered, and in my opinion, was designed primarily for soccer moms transporting kids to and from the field/mall. It was not designed for trailer towing. We tow a 4000# trailer in the warmer months and the vehicle has a very hard time doing it. In trying to pass a slow moving vehicle let alone just accelerate, the engine makes a lot of noise but nothing happens. We are well within the towing limits of the vehicle given trailer weight, passenger/cargo weights etc. We already get bad gas mileage so having a larger engine really wouldn't change things; we would just get more power out.

I shopped for a year to find this SUV. Looked at all others and the Toyota won hands down. I bought for a good price and have taken it on an extended vacation through all of Northern Arizona, Utah, New Mexico, Texas, and finally back to Oklahoma. Two adults and two kids with all the luggage and junk we could stuff in. It was comfortable and we had no issues with driveability and durability. So far this vehicle has lived up to every expectation I have had. Gas mileage a little low but not out of expected range. Easy for me to drive at 6'4" and my wife at 5'2". If you are shopping and want a great SUV, look at this Toyota.

We bought our Sequoia pre-owned last year, because I was tired of driving a minivan (have 3 kids) so still needed the room. Love it! It is very roomy, has leather and power seats, 6 cd changer and it's not even a Limited. The rear seat is nice, they can flip up and forward, like the roll down back window too. Do need a better way to get to 3rd row, though. I can fit a car seat, booster, and my oldest all in the second row! When we decide to trade-in my husband's van, we are definitely sticking with Toyota!

It's okay, my wife loves it and it is her car. To date no major problems with it, we've only had it for a year. There are a few things that don't work the way I expect them after driving domestic vehicles all my life but I can't say they're done wrong. One nice thing is it gets pretty good mileage for a large SUV. Over all the vehicle has no personality. But so far it has been reliable and the wife likes it.

This Sequoia has been a real disappointment. Bought new, and have been paying for problems ever since. Bulb that used to illuminate the D on the dash when car is put in gear burned out. Surprise, this is an $85 repair at the dealer, plus cost of the bulb. Brakes are inadequate and require routine pads and rotors way too often. Figure $400 every 30k miles here. Timing belt and water pump at 90k miles, another $700 plus. Note, others use a timing chain, which doesn't require routine changes at premium prices. A/C has also gone out, as has rear hatch window motor. Toyota's Toyota will do nothing about the defective designs. My first and last Toyota for sure.

The toyota's mpg is a joke I am no hot rod and I am getting barely over 10mpg. I assumed buying a foreign car the fuel econony would be much better than that of a domestic. The comfort and handling of the sequoia is great. The interior dash and controls remind me of the 80's.

I Love my Sequoia!!. In the snow, I feel safe because I am confident that I can control the car as long as I drive appropriate for conditions. I taught 2 teens to drive it. We moved across the country with the car loaded with "stuff" and 2 dogs and still had room to stretch out and sleep. Changed the oil every 3K miles and serviced the car per recommendations and it still performs great at 90K miles. To date, the only problems we've had is the latch on the tailgate and the cd player had to be replaced. I wish the gas mileage was better with the price of gas rising but I'm not trading it in yet! Getting to the 3rd row of seats isn't very easy.

It is embarassing to drive this car on cold mornings. When it is below 40 degrees out, the motor sounds like there is no oil in it. It taps so loud that people look to see what the clatter is. Toyota corporate claims that this is normal but they will not put it in writing. This vehicle drives like a luxury car. The motor is peppy. The handling is responsive. The moon roof squeaks a lot. the dealer allegedly replaced something but the visible components still had wear marks after the alleged replacement. I think they greased it. it was quiet for about five months. There is also a loud cracking sound from the front end that the dealer has not been able to find (under warranty)

I've owned the Sequioa for 2 1/2 years. NOT ONE PROBLEM. Just routine maintenance (rotate tires and oil change). No rattles, no squeaks, no loose fitting trim. The quality is A+. I will only buy Toyotas if they are this good. Gas mileage stinks---15/mpg-- --BUT I KNEW THAT WHEN I BOUGHT IT. This is a great vehicle for showing real estate to clients, transporting softbal teams, soccer teams, cub scouts etc. I also feel safe when driving on the daily life/death roulette of Houston's freeway system.

But, in the 8 months that we've own the car we've had broken Interior Door handles on both driver and passenger side, faulty gasoline tank sensor unit, and rear brake drum retention pin which came loose and eventually chewed up the brake shoes and drum. This is my 1st Toyota and compared to my Honda Accord I'm surprised by the Silly Quality problems which one would not expect in a High Priced SUV like this, which I've had in this relatively short time. It's making me wonder if I should have bought the Pilot?

The Sequoia is very comfortable to travel in, has loads of room, but what really sold me were the comfortable reclining 3rd row seats. BTW, the seats in the Sequoia are not quite as short as most in the Toyota line. Gas mileage is not great - 15-19 mpg, but I can't pull a boat with an Accord. The V8 engine is a real jewel & smooth as butter, but does lack a little torque - not recommended for towing in the mountains - a fine SUV!

Serious drivetrain problems the dealer says that it's all in our minds. I have been through four sets of tires since May of 03. We have had the truck serviced on time, we have have to replace the brakes. We had problem starting two weeks after we purchased it. This is was a brand new truck with 20 miles on it the day of purchase. I will not purchase another Toyota. We were in the market to purchase our daughter a car, but it will not be a toyota now.

Comfortable SUV; easy to handle; Unfortunately we have had persistent electrical problems that the dealer has been unable to repair, or at least repair properly. At times the headlights would not turn off or if turned off would automatically turn back on. The rear window got stuck a few times and would not function. Overall, it could be a great SUV, but for the money it was very frustrating not being able to get it properly repaired. It is our understanding that the dealer called Toyota a time or two for help.

Love the ride. Husband 6'5" likes it better than his Surburban. Although he hits the button to open the rear window w/his knee. I've had it aligned three times because of a pull to the right. I couldn't take my hands off the wheel or I'd be in the other lane. The fourth time I went to another Tire Kingdom and it seems to be fixed. Gas mileage isn't the best 14.5 in the city and 18 hwy. I love sitting high on the road and I never thought I'd be a SUV person but I enjoy the Sequoia. I put wedged small mirrors on my side mirrors and after getting used to them I don't cut many people off! Keyless entry pads are stiff and stubborn. I've had them replaced once and it's time again.

This is an excellent SUV. Have owned it 2 years now. Not a single problem except the driver's interior door handle had broken. High quality throughout. Very roomy interior. All of us love it. Had Suburban previously. Ride is not quite as smooth, but tighter and sportier, with a fun factor that you don't have in a Burb. Had a number of mechanical problems with the Burb also. Get 17 mpg, better that most full size SUV's, but wish it was higher. All the safety features give a lot of peace of mind, VSC, TRAC, Antilock, and all the air bags and curtains. Excellent family vehicle.

Serious drivetrain problems the dealer says are a "characteristic, not a defect". Brand new car came with the wrong ECU (car computer). Warranty repair was limited to installing a used/remanufactured computer. Major exhaust leak under heavy throttle uphills. Toyota calls this "exhaust sulfur smell problem". Front wheels will not or cannot retain an alignment. Eats up tires. stiff ride. Trac control lights all come on - already fixed once. What next? Please don't make me deal with a toyota dealership anymore...

The 2003 Sequoia is fun and luxurious. This responsive SUV provides a quality ride, plenty of room and features a very responsive 4.7L motor. The exterior remains elegant while newer SUVs get boxier. We looked at other SUVs only to find the interiors are evolving into a less-than-plush look — featuring many hard lines and brushed steal versus the warm feel of the Sequoia.

We (8 people)took this vehicle to Mexico, all the way close to Guatemala: All kinds of terrain. An awesome performer. I have yet to have a problem: plentiful acceleration, great comfort! Great looks; In Monterrey, the salesman told us how much people wanted the sequoia in Mexico, but is not sold there yet. Excellent attention to detail, premium quality on the interior, seats, and exterior; feels like a smaller car; I enjoy driving my sequoia everyday, and it is nice drive a truck with an elegant personality, but with excelent dna and character for off road duties. Very reliable with best residual value in its class.

Under 6,000 miles, both battery & rear wiper assembly replaced. Mileage awful, 11 mpg town, max 15 hwy. Can't open sunroof because of sulfur smell (dealer says try different gas - yeah, right) Engine lacks punch and power. Rear visibility awful. Turning radius huge, hard to park. Turn signal indicators blocked by top of steering wheel. Transfer case shift boot impossible to keep clean, interior looks perpetually dirty. Ride comfort good but that's only positive thing I have to say. Never so disappointed in my life, and my 1st SUV was an 88 Trooper II 4-cyl. Wife hates this SUV so much she wants us to trade it in on something, anything else

I have a 2003 Toyota Sequoia, bought it new and at approx 8,000 miles it now has a pecking noise in the engine. I have had it back to the dealership several times and they tell me that it is a design flaw in the engine called "PISTON SLAP". It sounds like a diesel engine. Have contacted California with no success. Does Toyota really stand behind their products? What a feeling to ride in a pecking $40,000 vehicle. Their response is you still have a lot of warranty left. If it started pecking a approx 8,000 miles and still doing it at 13,000 miles by the time it has 50,000 miles it will be junk.

We researched all SUV's and having owned 4 different new GM pickups since 1996 and a 2001 GMC Yukon XL we thought they were probably the best. We went by all the dealerships and found the Toyota Sequoia was large and a very attractive vehicle. We test drove it and absolutely loved it and got back and bought it.

This vehicle has been a big disappointment. I have owned several Toyotas in the past and they have been great. This probably explains all of the high ratings for the Sequoia. Based on Toyota's reputation, I think this vehicle gets greatly overrated. Where do I start? With the constant clacking noise. I have heard or read this described as piston slap, valves, etc.... Dealer is in serious denial. Claims there is no problem. Oil sensor out. Computer diagnostic failure, etc....

I was looking for size and reliability above all else. It may give up some towing capacity to the Chevy, but the overall design and quality won me over. The ride is quite smooth and silent. I have one quibble with a click in the dash which sounds after any start up after being parked. the dealer said it was the ABS switch resetting and that this was normal. I'm getting 15.3mpg in mixed driving according to the trip computer. And, it swallows regular gas rather than premium required by more than a few of its European competitors. Big discounts are fairly prevalent on this truck. Shop around for a loss leader!

We had a 2000 durango and traded up to this. It's a different class of vehicle. Leather, sunroof, full-time 4wd. This truck has the same displacement v8 as our durango (4.7) but it's gutsier AND gets better mileage. We're at 20k, averaging 17+ MPG in mixed driving. Can keep it in 4wd full-time and not worry 'bout it. We live in "rural" Mass. where we get a fair amount of snow, and need a truck.

I was excited about my first Toyota. I drive mostly highway miles. It had a pull to the right and my arm would be fatigued after trips over 15 mins keeping it straight. Many trips to the dealer later no fix. At the Lemon Law hearing the mech. expert who drove it agreed, but the other two who didn't, sided against us. I was shocked and stuck with it. Later I took it for a routine alignment at a different dealer and explain my past problems and they fixed it just like that. My ratings are based on it pre-fix, as Toyota assured me there was nothing wrong it then.Hope you don't have a problem because Toyota has your money for life.

We bought our 4WD in June 2001 right when they were (slowly) becoming popular. Very few of these were in the San Gabriel Valley of So. Cal. I* think the rpice scared everyone, including us. But truely, it's the best $40+ grand we ever spent. We tow our 6,000 pound boat, to the the river/lake every two weeks during spring and summer and it tows like a charm, without a problem. Everyone who has ridden in it, can't believe how comfortable and roomy it is. The third seat has had two big guys in it and they commented on the amount of room. This is an excellent vehicle for those with young, active children or for those who travel. The ride is smooth and quiet and the spacious interior makes for an overall pleasant traveling experience. As for locally, the agility of such a large vehicle is incredible. I went from a Camry to a Sequoia without any problems in terms of handling.

The folks at Toyota should wear masks. They're robbing people on this truck. The interior is all plastic and cheap looking, I've already had several problems with the roof/headliner area that are still not fixed, the climate control system has a mind of its own and lastly THE CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM THE DEALER UP TO THE CORPORATE OFFICE IS ABOMINABLE. Do yourself a favor and spend your money more wisely than I did.

My wife and I love taking our family of 7 on trips in our Sequoia. We fit very comfortably. My second youngest son who is 6' sits in the back row is comfortable. I'm 6'5" and have plenty of legroom in the driver or front passenger side. This SUV handles great.

Great quality. Drives like a bus, very heavy. Averages 15 mpg. This was expected. Tire wear was very poor, this vehicle came from the factory with Dunlop tires and I expect to have to replace them at around 20,000 miles. There were 2 minor defects when purchased, the sunroof leaked and the vehicle was out of alignment. Over all this is a good SUV and we are pleased with it.

I bought this vehicle in Maine, but I live in NY. I drove it straight home in a snow storm. I really love this car.I drove a Toyota 4-runner for 13 years & loved it. That vehicle was just not wide inside though for a piece of sheet rock to fit in the back or for 3 people to sit in the back set comfortable. So when I saw the sequioa, I knew that was the car. I think it's bigger than the land cruser inside & it has more leg room in the 3rd seat than any other 4WD vehicles with 3 seats. I'm even getting better milage in this car than I was in that 13 year old 4-runner & the gas tank is about twice the size which is great on trips.

Superb!

Best overall vehicle I have ever owned in the last 39 years! I took a decibel meter and checked the quietness of several SUV's at 70 mph before purchasing the Sequoia. The others were not even close to the quietness of the Sequoia. It is smooth, powerful, has room for 8 with comfort and yet will turn tighter and handles better than my Pathfinder. If you want the best large SUV on the market and can write the check, look no futher.

The Toyota Sequoia is the absolute BEST SUV ever. Pure Toyota excellence in fit and finish -- and total perfection in engineering quality. I have friends with Explorers, Expeditions and some with GM products -- all WISH they had not made their purchase of an inferior product. Toyota HAS, in fact, eclipsed both Ford and GM in the SUV market. I totally LOVE this vehicle and when the time comes for a NEW SUV -- it will be a Toyota Sequoia.

Having happily owned a number of Land Cruisers from FJ40 days onward, when the price of the LC got above $50K I defected to an Expedition. Mistake. Returned to the Toyota fold with a 2002 Sequoia Limited. What a great vehicle! Tows my trailer and Mule wth aplomb, even in the mountains. Mileage is 15 town, almost 20 highway, 14 towing. Only complaint (a mild one) is that it is kind of a tire eater with the factory rubber. Switched to Michelins as I usually do and expect that to be a non-problem from now on. Rides like a car on the highway, and not too stiff on the backroads. Wife is fanatic Toyota fan on 3rd 4-Runner.

Finally after 2 years of talking and watching other people drive by me on the highway, I bought an 03 Phantom Grey SR5 Sequoia. This website was great in helping with reviews and what I should expect for price. The dealership had plenty in stock and we picked one off the lot. It drives great, is comfortable, looks sharp, and is all around fun to drive. I feel comfortable in it wether dressed up for dinner or road tripping with the back jammed. Great SUV and hope it lives up to the great anticipated quality and value. Gas mileage is as expected 14- 17MPG, but still tough to swallow.

This is the third Toyota I have purchased. They are stylish, yet built like tanks. Thus far my Sequoia has not disappointed. Its a well built vehicle, great power for a large SUV, it handles very well, great for climbing steep grades. My only complaint is the turning radius. I've recommended it to everone who inqures about it.

We just purchased this vehicle less than a month ago and have had to make several trips to the dealership with it. Our most distressful problem is the poor interior build quality and a sunroof that squeaks over bumpy roads to the point of distraction. As I type this review, the roof still squeaks and no one at my dealership seems to know what or why it is doing this. The slogan should read, "interior by mattel". Also, the rear audio plate looks like it's falling off even after THAT was replaced. After spending 50+ thousand on this truck I want to kick myself. There are better values out there.

Quiet ride, roomy 1st and 2nd row. 3rd row seat should fold flat and optionally with a touch of a button like the Expedition. Getting in and out of 3rd seat thru folding of the 2nd row seat can be improved. Loved the different readings available in the convenience package. It tells me the actual mileage per gallon used. The mileage improves as the car is driven more. Can't assume that keyless entry is standard in the SR5.

I have owned my Limited 4x4 for 2 months now and the honeymoon is still on. It rides smooth in city as well as on mountain roads, I have made many trips and we have enjoyed all those rides. The great exterior styling makes heads turn on roads and the luxurious interior is best enjoyed by all 8 passengers. The DVD and Gaming options make life free of stress for parents and all so wondeful for the kids.YES you can get a bigger GMC/Ford with more power/luxury features for the same price , but when it comes to safety, reliability, resale value and performace Toyota comes a clear Winner. Sequoia is the Best Full Size SUV Around Go For It, you will not regret!

After eight years of having suburbans in our family, we decided to spend just a little more and get something we would not have to trade in every 2 to 3 years. It is amazing how much nicer this feels than a suburban. The turning radius is like a small car, it is more comfortable than our suburbans were and I feel that I won't have to be trading it in after 70,000 miles. You don't many used Sequoias for sale, that should tell you something!

I've owned several other makes, but keep coming back to Toyota. Our Nissan minivan served us well, but started falling apart at 100,000 mi. My Toyota truck has well past 100,000 mi and I've only had to do basic maintenance. My expectations are that this Sequoia will serve equally well. It's big, but not too big, decent fuel economy for its size/weight, and the crash ratings are excellent (5 stars front and side). I'll keep buying Toyota's because they've proven to me to be stout, dependable, predictable, and my kids can't break them!

Besides the air conditioner being replaced the first year we have had very little problems with the sequioa. Some of the covers for the seat to floor mounts have fallen off and won't stay on but it drives quiet, smooth and we get many complements and inquiries on the vehicle. It pulled my 18ft fishing boat and 3 men with all our gear for a week long fishing trip 9 hours one way without any trouble at all. I had the air on, cruiese set and she pulled the boat almost as if it wasn't there.

I originally had the 2002 SR5. In September 2002, my family and I were in an accident which totalled the Sequoia and the 2 other vehicles that were involved and also took out the utility power box at the intersection. We all walked away with the only injury being with my dog and a broken nose on my 10 year old son. After that I could only purchase another Toyota Sequoia because I really feel the quality of the frame and body of the truck saved our lives.

It does not remind me of the earilier toyota's with the 4 and 6 cylinders, this one's got some power. It is also a very quiet ride, When running you can't even tell the engine is running !!! We have had the Sequoia for three weeks. The Limited looks for 2003 are beautiful. The interior is refined and comparable to LX470. I see no real difference between the two except the lesser $20,000.00 price and the fact we have much more room. We look forward to years of pleasure driving it. My only complaint is that I never get to drive it as my wife beats me to it. She has left for IS300 to me though.

For full size SUVs with 3rd row seats nothing comes close to the comfort of the Sequoia. I dont why Lexus and Toyota even bothered putting a 3rd row seat in the LX470 and Landcruiser respectively when it's very uncomfotable. An average adult like me sits with my knees almost at the level of my chest. True, the Lexus LX470 and Toyota Landruiser comes in a more luxurious trim but why even bother a 3rd seat when it's not made to seat 8...comfortably. Forget the other SUVs with comfortable 3rd seat like the Yukon, Suburban, Navigator, Expedition, and Ascender. These dont have the reliability of a Toyota.

A great vehicle. Meets all our family space needs. Comnfortable and spacious. Very smooth ride. Mileage about as expected for a car of this size. A small negative is the occasional surging of engine performance when on hilly roads in cruise control.

Bought a Sequoia day before yesterday and love it. It'll work great to drive to my 2nd job to pay for the gas - it sucks gas faster than I can pump! Seriously, we knew that would happen - this is larger than our Jeep GC so we knew mileage would be lousy. Size is great, but 8th person needs to be a kid. Middle row has a lot of room, and 3rd row isn't bad either. No complaints about interior/exterior. Bottom line, at 36+ hours of ownership, would recommend it.

It drives smoothly and quietly, the windshield wipers were a bit noisey which surprised us and the seat that has to be raised for the third row can be cumbersome as well as heavy at times; I would have liked it if the air vents were more directional but the rear air is great and there is plenty of room for a family of seven.

After owning a 2000 Toyota Tundra, I was sold on the 4.7 V8 powertrain, but had numerous problems with the braking system. Needless to say, I thought I'd give Toyota another try. I purchased this Sequoia for my wife to drive and she loves it. We bought the SR5 with leather & the works (A value when compared to Ford, Chevy or GMC. My confidence in the brakes is still not good as we only have 4,000 miles on the vehicle and I am taking it back in for brake noise.

I have owned Ford and GM SUVs. Tried their '03s including the new Expedition. Sequoia had far superior build quality and materials than Ford or GM. It was quieter than the Expedition for the same money when loaded equally(within $900). It is still rattle and squeak free after 10,000 harsh miles(regularly off road and rough road).

I am very pleased with my Sequoia. It has the typical toyota build quality and a flawless drive train (might as well have a circle L on the hood). I do wish the diver seat was more comfortable. Also, the 3rd seat is a bit bouncy for a long ride. One of the great features is the reclining 2nd and 3rd row! I would buy another one in a heartbeat!

A suberbly build vehicle in all respects from fit and finish, paint finish, body integrity. Toyota set a new standard for trucks! Ride comfort is very good for a truck frame, a bit stiff on some roads but overall, very smooth and quiet. Mileage has been quite good for this size vehicle, 16.5 city, near 21 on the highway. Had a few surprising issues. 1 - replaced/ upgraded front rotors/brake. Toyota apparently undersized the rotors. 2 - Rear main seal replaced at 30k, all covered under warranty + new rear pads.

Great road vehicle. Almost unflappable on the highway no matter the conditions. Strong engine makes long hills a breeze. A little slow off the line. Great leg room in front and second row. Easy to fold second and third row seats. Retractable rear window lets hot air out fast. Auto feature on front windows great. Great ventilation system. Quiet moonroof when open. Very quiet on the road. Above 75 mph is unbelievably quiet for this size vehicle. Okay gas mileage. Traction control will take the vehicle anywhere in 4 wheel and almost anywhere in 2 wheel. Easy to use and accurate cruise control. Incredible cup holders.

We purchased our Sequoia in Nov. after our 98 Sienna lease was up. Our dealer showed us the Sequoia, we drove it then drove a new (03) Sienna, we knew it was the Sequoia hands down. Our kids are older (12 and 14)they fit better in the Sequoia, and they are only getting bigger. The Sequioa is fun to drive, and handles great for a large SUV. The interior has lots of cubbies and cup holders, and numerous sunglass holders (don't know why). For us it's a great family vehicle. My husband recently rode in a friends new Lexus SUV for a fairly long drive, and he said our Sequoia was much more comfortable.

We have had our Sequoia repaired by the dealership 10 times in the past 18 mo. for VSC concerns and activation. toyota replaced the master brake booster @1135 miles, front calipers rotors and pads @17000 miles and again @ 34000 as a TSB.after going to arbirtation, I won toyota will replace my SUV with a new one. But toyota made it as hard and as possible, didn't care about my families safty or LIVES, and tryied to discredit 7 of the 10 repairs because the dealership didn't charge toyota any money, but still tryed to repair. In closing, stand up for your legal rigths even if toyota trys to make you give in.

I have driven this SUV in deep silt and mud and on steep 4x4 trails and have found it to be very stable and lots of fun. I think that this is the best offroad perfomance I have ever seen in a production SUV. It is even better than my customized Ford truck. I also use my Sequoia to drive clients and most of them remark about how smooth the ride is and how quiet the Sequoia is on the highway. I love my Sequoia and I love driving it even on long trips. The cargo room and versitility of seating arrangments comes in very handy. The Sequoia is my favorite drive of all time.

The vehicle is large. It is also pleasantly just as big on the inside. The Sequoia is very comfortable, agile (for a truck), and extremely quiet. Everything you would expect from Toyota with maybe a touch of Lexus is instilled in this vehicle. From the fly-by-wire ignition system to the DVD player, it is a wonderful vehicle to drive.

Having owned Ford and Chevy SUVs, I tried several '03 Expeditons, Yukons and Tahoes before sampling three Sequoias. The quality of the Sequoias was clearly superior. All of the Fords and GMs had little problems (rattles, squeaks, vibrations, loose, poorly fitting or non-functional parts). The Sequoia's engine and drivetrain were the smoothest and it had the quietest ride. It's technology was equal or better than the others.

Traded unreliable ’98 Mercedes ML320 on the Sequoia. Nimble for its size. Great steering feel except at high speeds or heavy loads, where it's a bit too light. Smooth, controlled ride. Huge, quiet interior. 3rd row seat is comfortable. Excellent build quality, but interior look is plain. Perfect paint job. We get 16 mpg; regular gas is fine. Transmission shifts are jerky before it warms up, and when downshifting in corners. Middle seats fold, but can't be removed. Stereo is just OK. Off road it's good; if you turn off VSC. Nice driving position, but the front seats become uncomfortable after 2-3 hours due to poor lower back support.

My last car was a dodge durango ( bad choice). I looked at predominately US cars as my next choice to replace the Durango. Drove the Chevy Blazer, Expedition, Explorer, Yukon etc... was pleased by those cars but not impressed. Test drove the SEQUOIA and LOVED IT. The handling, designed, spacious and very easy to handle made it an instant BUY. I would highly recommend the car to those looking for an SUV. Having the additional features ( DVD player), heated seats etc... was worth the time. I found out that getting the SR5 model loaded ( with leather) is practically he same as the Limited but much cheaper in price!!!!!

We finally got our new 03 SR5 Sequoia. We did not think it would ever arrive, especially since we ordered it over 5 months back. We formerly owned a 2001 Chevy Tahoe. Wow, what a big improvement over that clunk. We were a bit disappointed with all the dealer gouging on this particular model. If you want the Sequoia, you will pay a small premium. The engine is smooth and torquey and the ride is quiet. We especially like the dealer installed TRD supercharger and the power rear hatch window. The Engine compartment is also well laid out and very spacious.

I love this suv. It is fun to drive and looks great- plenty of room for children, friends, backpacks and whatever I want to haul around. Third row seat is comfortable even for an adult although it takes a bit of agility to get in and out of it. The third row seats are bulky to remove and it has taken a bit of getting used to the different levers to flip them and or remove them. Children have difficulty flipping the middle row seats - middle row floor mats do not fit well which is irritating on a vehicle in this price range. Four wheel drive was great in snow and on ice -ride is very smooth and the interior very quiet. awesome SUV!

We finally got rid of our 99 Suburban. I vowed after owning two Sub's one a 97 lemon and then a 99 Sub, we were looking for something more dependable than a Chevy, and our quest was fullfilled. Our Sequioa is fantastic, there is not a creek, moan, rattle or any noise what so ever. It handles the snow and mountain driving like the SUV it was inteneded to be and drives like a luxury car on the streets. We drove all the similar SUV's, but none compared to the Toyota. If you are in the market for an SUV think very seriously about the Sequioa, its not cheap, but then again it isn't built cheap either! Opt for the limited and get everything you want on it.

We traded in our 2001 full-size Montero Ltd. What a difference! This blows the Montero out of the water. No more praying for dear life when you take corners or change lanes. We got the deal we wanted by using the internet to email all the dealers in the Southeast. We sent out a broadcast fax, as well. We were very clear in with what we wanted and what price we were willing to pay. There were a lot of dealers that met our price but did not disclose add-ons like "Toyo Guard", dealer prep, paperwork, document processing, etc. that well exceeded the price we wanted to pay. We didn't play that game.

Toyota has built a great SUV. The gas mileage is not at all bad when you consider you are driving a vehicle weighing over 5000 pounds. Much better mileage than a Yukon or an Escalade. Engine is silky smooth and power is adecuate. seating, legroom and headroom are perfect. a lot of cargo behind third row. Drives like a sedan. All around great vehicle. If you need memory seats or a fancy interior, buy an escalade or a land cruiser. Almost forgot, resale value is much better than the competition.

Great on highway travel, comfortable, responsive, easy to control at cruising speeds. Travel on back roads- -dirt roads during winter with lots of snow and ice this year has been very easy and safe. Traction outstanding even on icy hilly terrain. Only complaint is rear visibility. Roominess for transporting is asset.

Just traded an 01 Grand Cherokee Ltd after having baby#2. The Grand Cherokee is all things bad about American built cars. Bought an SR5 with every option available except heated seats. Had those doen after market along with Spoiler and DVD system and still paid thousands less than an equivalent Limited. Quite frankly, the two tone Natural White/Silver is a better looking vehicle than the Limited. And our friends have remarked how much nicer looking it is that our relatives' 2002 Landcruiser!! After the Grand Cherokee and a 1998 EB Expedition, this is a keeper. You will have a difficult time finding another SUV as loaded as this for the money!!

I was stuck trying to justify the high price of the Sequoia compared to it's American counterparts. In the end the resale value and reliabilty overcame the others. I have been very happy with my Sequioa, and feel more at ease with having to outlay that much money. The quality and workmanship is leaps and bounds above any others I have seen. I put in a Gibson Cat-Back exhaust & a Volant cold air intake. I get close to 18.5 miles to the gallon and much quicker 0-60 times, The set up cost me $600 but well worth it. In a nut shell, I am a very saitsfied Toyota owner. There is a reason that Toyota does not have to offer huge rebates to sell there products.

I love my new Sequoia! It's so quiet and smooth; nice acceleration; doesn't feel like a truck like some SUVs; very small radius of turn for making tight U- ies; did I mention it was very quiet. Sucks up a lot of gas....compare to my Honda Accord. Very happy I with my choice...as long as gas price stays below $2.

Yes the Sequoia is very nice, extremely smooth ride no question. However, two things prompted me to sell mine. First, Toyota needs to recall all of the Brake rotors. 18K miles and mine needed to be replaced 3 times...absolutely horrible! Another thing that drove me crazy was the way the SUV would just get blown from one lane to another for no apparent resaon. This wasn't wind related or asphalt related. It almost made me wreck 2 times. I am not the only one ot have these issues either. So beware. The Sequoia is a very attractive SUV, very large yes. It does have several bad blind spots and a few Toyota design flaws that make it overpriced.

for startes we took the SUV from MAINE to alberta canada, it was one of the most comfertable trips i've every takin. when we were going throught we hit some real step hill. i'm talking 35, 40 degrees on a high way. it hanlded them with no cares. also i never had to toalk the truck out of overdrive to make it up. were i live we get 2 feet of snow at least once a week and the truck with all of it's safty feature keep this on the road with ease. so i recamded this suv to any one who can afforded it. thats the only draw back but it pays off because the gas milage is much better then on the sticker. and it has a unbeliveavle radio, and speakers.

This is NOT a luxury vehicle! Toyota built this using the parts bin from their truck line. Several switches are not illuminated at night.(in a $46K vehicle!!!) The heating/AC controls suck. There is a large protrusion in the front Pass. foot area due to a stupid design. The vehicle is just too high. Overall quality is marginal. The new 4 Runner Interior is much nicer. We only had our Sequoia for 1700 miles. It was the nicest vehicle we ever owned. It was roomy, comfortable, quiet, and peppy enough to get on down the highway. Its most important feature was our crash test. A moron made a left turn in front of my wife at point blank range. My wife t-boned the moron at 40 mph. The moron's vehicle turned into scrap metal. The Sequoia's front end crumpled as it was suppose to, but the passenger compartment was not compromised. The seat belts and air bags kept my wife from sustaining any serious injuries. The paramedics told my wife that our Sequoia saved her life.

Overall I am really pleased with the SR5. It has reasonable gas mileage when compared to other Large SUVs. I average around 16 to 17 mpg. It has plenty of room and is really convenient when traveling with family. The quality of the interior is also superior to Ford and Chevy. The drawbacks I have had since I bought the vehicle: there is an annoying ticking or tapping sound (lifter noise?) coming from the engine that "Toyota" says is normal and not a mechanical problem. Supposedly, Toyota has had many complaints about this and is redesigning the 2003 to eliminate the sound.

I am so glad I bought this SUV. The ride is silky soft and the cabin is quiet and comfortable. I considered a Tahoe and an Expedition, but I questioned Tahoe's reliability and did not like Ford's style. So after reading mostly favorable consumer reviews, I decided to test drive the Sequoia. During the test drive I began to believe those seemingly suspicious rave reviews because I was hooked on the spot. I thought I'd have some sort of buyer's remorse, but so far there is none. I love having and driving this SUV!

We traded our '98 GMC Suburban 4X4 LT. We looked at the Yukon XL and there was no comparison. The Toyota is really a vehicle that you can live with day in and day out. It's a blast to drive! It seats 8 comfortably...The Yukon's are mostly sold with 4 bucket seats in ATL now. The interior comfort and ease of use is way ahead of the Yukon XL. The Yukon XL back seat was a beast to remove. The Yukon just was too truck- like, plus it was more expensive feature for feature. We don't tow much...If I towed, I'd have taken the Yukon.

The first week after I bought the car I thought I had made a mistake, the panel lit up like a christmas tree. It was in the shop twice to find the problem then they could not get the part so it was in for a week. Something about the accuator on the ABS brake system part was bad. Since then it has been a dream. I love it. But beware I have the leather seats with the wood grain accents and the middle concil on the passager side is loose, they can't seem to find the right part to fit from toyota so they are going to send me to a local shop. It its cosmetic and not a big deal. The drive is wonderful!

Have taken it to all nasty road conditions. The car drives as if it is on rails. The has a much more dynamic feel than the 4Runner (ironic isn't it/). More importantly, this SUV has never had to go back to dealer . Not even for an adjustment. I can't say the same for our European cars. I really recommend this SUV.

My main gripes are as follows: the transmission downshifts really hard in the hills (I had a Chevy and a Ford that shifted cleaner) I hope they can address this issue. I'm 6'2" and the ergonomics are generally great for the driver, except that they buried the clock at the bottom of the dash panel, and when they shifter is in drive it actually blocks the view of some of the HVAC controls. It's even worse for my wife who is 5'3". The drivers seat needs at least a 2 position memory switch, and it would be really nice if they had incorporated the stereo controls into the steering wheel pod. Other than that, I'll shut up - it's a great vehicle!

An overall nice, well built car. Selected Sequoia over 2003 LC due to the $ value/interior size comparisons. Despite it's attention to detail, the interior fit/finish does not compare to the my 99 LC. Yet kids love the interior size and sound system; wife likes the exterior looks. I guess things could be worse (like owning a Ford).

I researched many SUV's over a 4 month period. Although I wasn't looking for a full size SUV initially, I finally decided on the Sequoia for it's hi-tech V8 engine, (which runs on regular gas), reliability and it's decent towing capacity. The handling of such a large vehicle is very impressive and even better than my 2000 V8 Jeep Grand Cherokee, which I traded for the Seqouia (no regrets there). Of course, the added bonus of having the room for up to 8 passengers, and the quality fit and finish helps too. I have yet to find (any) quality or mechanical issues with this vehicle.

Very nice and smooth powertrain. Inside is very nice, and comfortable. If you want to purchase Toyota backed extend warranty at the dealer, make sure you start the neg. by knocking down $400 off the price they quote you! The dealer will always try to take advantage of you first. Watch out!!You can find out the MSRP for those extended warranty on toyota's website under finance.

Better than Expedition?

Smooth, quiet and powerfull ride. Sways a little too much on turns and brakes need a lot of force to stop. The Expeditions interior lay-out with available Captains chairs and a power flat folding third row seat can't be beat and should be implemented by Toyota. The canopy air bag system in the Ford is also a gret safety feature that all should copy.

Steel wheel design not enough pretty; Power of engine need a little more boost up such as 5.0 or 5.5 liter engine will performance better. Color of vehicle not enough for selection in Limited edition model.

After owning a 1998 Expedition for the last four years we were ready to look into another large SUV. Because we have already owned Toyota's in the past and were always very pleased with their reliability, we decided to research the Sequoia. The handling of the Sequoia was far superior to that of the Expedition and also the acceleration of the Sequoia was far superior.

I hated to buy other than american but several friends have this and have had no problems towing or diving the beaches surf fishing. My other toyota truck is a 1989 with 155,000 miles and going strong with years of abuse behind her. hope I get that lucky with my new truck/SUV.
