We owned this car for 12 years and it was as trouble-free as a vehicle could be. Basically, you never had to worry about something going wrong. Driver vision was excellent and seating was comfortable. We took it on four around-the-country trips and never had a problem other than a flat tire.

Bought my Rav4L new 12 plus yrs.ago. Most dependable vehicle I have ever owned. Drove it for over 800 miles a wk for work. Starts in sub-zero weather, when are expensive vehicles would not. Maintenace cost almost nothing. Usual stuff....tires,got 109,000 out of one set, battery, brakes, wiper blades etc. this vehicle has saved me a fortune !!! I'm retired and now my trusted vehicle is used for leisure, golf trips, ballgames etc. If I covered the odometer, you would think the vehicle has less than 50 K. Going to buy my wife a 2016 Rav, safe, dependable, fun to drive.

I bought this Rav4, AWD about 10 months ago. It is great to drive, ride and handling are good for it's size, power could use lot of help, and the economy has yet to break 25 MPG-it has dropped since we bought it, it is now down to 19 to 21 MPG. I removed the PCM and sent it to a repair facility to get the transmission problem corrected before it actually failed. The man who is repairing is said that the poor economy could be part of the PCM failing, even thought the transmission area had not failed yet. The outcome of this repair will be the deciding factor whether I keep this car or not.

I rarely write reviews online but I want to share my experience with this vehicle...My RAV4 is in excellent condition until I hit 89K on my 2003 RAV 4 last month when it's started jerking on shifting. I'm 3 months passed out of extended warranty as per TOYOTA 10 YEARS/150,000 miles. I took mycar to the dealer but told me I need to pay $$$$ for the diagnostic and repairs because of out of warranty...Even calling TOYOTA Customer Relation is still no help..This is my last TOYOTA ever...You lost one loyal customer...I traded my RAV4 for a 2013 Honda Accord...

I have had this car since 2003...it is manual shift though. It is peppy and I can fit both my kids in it and all of our junk. It is reliable and I have no concerns whatsoever. The only issue I have had is had to replace the breaks. Love the car so much that we looked this year to replace our mini-van with something more efficient and considered another RAV-4 (ended up going with the corolla after really thinking do we need two mini-SUVs????)

I bought my Rav4 new in 2003. It now has 156,000 miles on it, and the transmission needs replaced. I discovered the problem after trying to merge into traffic with sluggish acceleration. After researching online and reading other reviews on here, these problems are due to a faulty ECM. Toyota extended the warranty to 20 years or 150,000 miles. Of course, my car is 6000 miles over the warranty. Now we're stuck with a $5000 repair. Sure, I drove my car for 156,000 miles, but Toyota built their reputation on reliability. I expected to drive this car another 50,000 miles. Don't trust Toyota. Their only concern is their bottom line, not the safety of their customer.

I drive a 99 Camry and love it, so when we has our first child and my wife needed a vehicle to replace her 94 accord coupe we went with Toyota. The RAV (sprt pkg)is sharp looking. We now have two kids, and it has become very cramped. We have had the car for a little over a year now and have had the ck eng light on for most of that time due to a failing cat converter, though we've not had any trouble yet. We also had to replace the main computer because it was causing the tran to slip- Toyota covered this pricey repair at no cost to us (thank you!), despite the fact that we are not the original owner and it is outside the orig warranty.

I gave my son my 03 Corolla S to us for college, so I went out car shopping and after test driving the Rav4 is was hooked, it had a very comfortable drive, I knew I was driving a Toyota, . last winter here in Missouri we had several big snowstorms and blizzards roll through the area, my AWD Rav4 didnt have any difficulty getting around in the deep snow, the corolla would have never made it out of the drive way

Just traded in my 2007 Ford F-150 for the Rav4 to get better fuel economy. I was a little hesitant going from a v8 to a 4 cyl., but this car did not dissapoint! I recently had a spinal fusion and I can drive this car all day without it bothering my back. I am also a single mom of a two year old, this car has room enough for him and all of his "gear" as well as another friend. The gas mileage is great(especialy compared to my F-150).

Here is the link:http://wheels.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/07/13/toyota-extends-warranty-on-troubled-2001-3-rav4/. You can call the center in Torrance, Calif at 800-468-7814 for more info. I am going to get back my repair costs of $4300 for a rebuilt transmission and ECM module replacement.

I just purchased a 2003 pre-owned RAV4 after owning a 4Runner Sport V8 for over 8 years. I loved my 4Runner and hated to sell it, but it was time to "downsize" to something smaller with better gas mileage. I couldn't be happier!! After one week, I still can't wait to drive it the next day. It's the perfect size for me and fun to drive. I love the large front windshield visibility, tight steering, and turning radius. I look forward to owning this RAV4 for a long long time!! I'm a Toyota fan forever!

I have had this car for 7 + years and 82,000 miles. I have replaced tires and battery, but no problems, except starting to get a few rattles. Runs great. I like the styling of this car and it's comfortable ride. I want to upgrade some of the features like keyless entry, variable speed intermittent wipers, fog lights, and some other comfort items, but I don't like the design of the newer models. They lose out on looks and don't have AWD. My choice seems to be enjoy this car until it doesn't run any more and live without the perks, or change to a new kind of car altogether.

Our Toyota 2003 Rav4 was very nice. My husband did all the oil changes, rotating tires, brakes and any other kind of maintenance on car. It was fine until about a week ago and our transmission started acting up. We took it to a transmssion shop and they said to replace transmission at $5000. We decided to check out reviews on the internet and found out we weren't the only ones with this problem. I use to trust toyota, but now I feel betrayed. They knew about it and didn't tell the consumer. Besides their Gas pedal problems now they are recalling not the RAV4's, but 2003 Sequoila's. This is for that car's transmission. Go figure ! I'm going to Honda now!

I have had my Rav for over 4 years, but almost 100,000 miles on it and aside from new brakes, tires and regular maintenance...I've never needed to do anything to it. I love this car, it's perfect for 2 adults and maybe one child and a dog. The only problem I have is the back seat is too small. We have a one year old, with one on they way and we need to upgrade....can't fit 2 car seats in the back unless you want your knees in the glovebox. Aside from back seat, it's a great car with room in the trunk for lots of stuff (including a giant stroller) and it drives great. I would recommend it to anyone!

Bought the vehicle used with 15k now at 38K. I keep up with maintenance with battery replacement just done. This has got to be the best vehicle I have every owned, reliable and fun to drive. Just the right size for city driving and parking with excellent gas mileage. I agree with other comments regarding engine underpowered on hills and steep inclines but in total a terrific vehicle. Bottom line I would buy it again. Too bad the new ones are so much larger.

Great car 4x2 model, gets 26 mpg hwy about 23-24 in town. I have had it since new now with 32k miles. Absolutely no problems. If I were to pick one negative issue if would be slightly underpowered with a.c on when in hilly areas. This is my 4th Toyota, i.e tacoma, tundra, yaris, all good vehicles. Paint on all Japenese cars is excellent. Try one, you will be happy.

I bought this car to replace my '97 Honda Civic. I have owned Toyotas in the past and I have always loved them. However, I was not prepared to fall in love with this car before I had even driven off the dealer's lot for the test drive! Some have mentioned it being underpowered, but I don't find the manual shift to be underpowered at all. It is a little noisy in the cabin, but this is an SUV, not a Lexus sedan.

After 4 yrs and 100K+ miles on my RAV4 I have had no problems whatsoever. What a great car. This is my first Toyota. No wonder people love 'em. Has been to the dealer for routine maintenance only. I seem to have finally done something to it: there is a slight squeak under the dashboard that I plan to have fixed soon. Besides that all I have spent on it is fuel and oil only. Too bad the new one is an oversized version, this was the perfect size (and I am 6"1' 220 lbs).

We've now had our RAV for 4 years and it's still running like new. We had a Corolla before this that had absolutely zero problems. I perform my own mechanic work so I thought I'd give some feedback in that respect. 55,000 miles with no oil leaks anywhere. Oil filter location is the easiest I've ever experienced. The motor has a timing chain, not a belt. Annoying rattle developed around the glove box and finally narrowed it down to plastic grommets that hold plastic panels under the windshield wipers. A design flaw in my opinion. The battery is tucked under this area which makes it difficult if you ever needed a jump start. We invested in a Black & Decker jump starter just in case.

I have had my AWD RAV4 for four years and put almost 90,000 miles on it. I could not be happier. I have never written a car review before but this car deserves it. I just came back from the dealer for routine maintenance. I was told that it needed nothing. I have only put gas and oil in this car and have had no issues whatsoever. It drives new and looks (minus normal wear) excellent. Build quality is outstanding, no rattles. Everything works like it should and you can see that this car gets driven a lot. The noise problem that has been commented on improves 100% with better quality tires (comes with TOYO tires new). The AWD works excellent in real conditions (black ice, snow storms, etc).

This is my first Toyota. Let me list all the things I like about my RAV: it is easy to get into (not as tall as other SUVs), easier to see over the hood while driving, the back door swings from the side, the versatility and configurations of the back seats, the gas mileage, its pretty looks (definitely a girl's car), the short radius for turning, the brakes stopping on a dime. This is all that comes to mind, although I know there must be more regarding the motor and things like that. I believe this will be my last vehicle for many years to come.

Purchased Nov 2003, I commute 160 miles RT four days a week. This car jams! Does 70-80 mph in carpool lane with no shakes. Tended to be really noisy inside until I got high quality tires. Gas mileage really disappointing for such a small car but handles like a dream, has plenty of power to pass vehicles on daily mountain pass climb, even with the air on! Lots of cargo room with back seats down. VERY stable in scary conditions - quick response and recovery. Tire size is NOT standard - hard to find replacements at decent prices. Just now replacing shocks/struts/brakes at 64K miles. Fun to drive, does very well on 4WD roads, extremely reliable.

I have had almost no problems with my 3 year old RAV 4 after 3 years and more than 60.000 miles. Had a slight rattle on the glove compartment when almost new, easily fixed by a great Toyota dealer service. Mechanically, no problems whatsoever. Also no problems with body or interior components. Only complaint is interior sound insulation which is not "Wrangler- terrible" but could certainly be improved. Some improvement after getting new Michelin highway tires. The engine has good power delivery and reserve for typical use. Highway behavior is excellent and handles more like a sedan. However do not expect the acceleration and torque that comes with much bigger but less fuel effic SUVs

We just traded in our "old man" Malibu for the Rav4 with sport package. It's very stylish and the ride is surprisingly smooth for an SUV. We needed a car that could transport our full-size cornholio (beanbag)game to tailgates outside the ballpark. The Rav didn't come with security/keyless entry, so we went to Bestbuy and had them install the complete keyless entry/security/remote start system which will be nice to have during the Chicago winters. The gas mileage is about the same as we had with the 6 cyl. Malibu. I love this SUV and look forward to many years of driving bliss!

This is my wife's car, and she is enjoying it very much, as its been a good car for us. Has a nice ride, very comfortable, does well in the poor weather, and handles great for an SUV. I find the power to be quite adequate(and I Trans Am fairly often!) for most conditions, the only time it is lacking is on steep inclines when the transmission hunts for gears. The negatives are that there is alot of wind, road, and driveline noise that enters the cabin at highway speeds. Also the car has already developed 2 rattles in just over 2 years of ownership - not what I expected from Toyota. Gas mileage is underwhelming for a small car with a small engine, 25mpg is par for highway drives at 65-70.

I bought this car for my wife overall it is a Toyota (excellent vehicles) however I have been very concerned about the rear door. I have small children and that door is an accident waiting to happen every parent should watch out. What is with the weight of that door? It is a mousetrap and I am concerned that children can be seriously hurt or injured by this poor design. I would keep the car if Toyota could come up with a fix but I’m fearful that children have already been hurt by it. Watch it especially if you live in hilly terrain as we do!!

With a new house I wanted a pre-runner so I could haul things for projects, but it wouldn't fit in my garage so I went with the RAV4 and I've never regretted it. Yeah I can't haul 4x8 sheets of plywood around, but just about everything else. It's been a lot of fun to drive on vacation and business trips (especially with XM on board). From the moment I bought this I knew it was the right vehicle for me. And with gas prices soaring, it's 29 MPG is smart.

I got this car as a birthday present from my parents. I am very happy with it most of the time, but there are a few annoying things. My car vibrates constantly, especially in the morning when I am stopped. The gas mileage is a little rough and I have to fill up my tank often. The engine is also very small; not too much power. The back set has minimal leg room. On the up side, the car is easy to drive and I love how roomy it is in the front (I don't feel claustrophobic when I drive). I also love the stereo system and how easy it is to park my car. It it nice that the car is comfortable because I do a lot of driving.

Very nice design inside and outside. The engine is a joke but one can get used to it. The AWD is useless - the car is more uncontrollable than FWD and it is very poor on gas mileage (average 19mpg!). Consolation prize - the value seems to be holding well compared to other cars.

So far my RAV4 has been extremely pleasant to drive, easy to maneuver, and very reliable. I purchased this as my "dream car"-the one I always wanted, and I have not been disappointed, as we often are when we buy something we thought would be better than it is. The easily removable rear seats have made it perfect for taking my dogs camping, and I always have plenty of room for anything I need. I have moved my entire apartment (including all normal furniture, such as bed and sofa) twice in this "little" car. I'm exceptionally pleased with it.

The RAV 4L is well built and very reliable. It is a lot of fun to drive since it can corner on a dime with minimum body roll. The Toyota quality is apparent through out the exterior and interior of the mini suv. Gas mileage is excellent all around on regular unleaded gas.

This Rav4 is my third Toyota, previously had 2 pick-ups. The RAV lives up to the Toyota reputation good mileage, reliability and a sturdy 4cyl engine. I do a lot of driving often in bad weather and the RAV gets me through, though with a little less bravado than my old Tacoma. The RAV's interior cargo space makes it a fair trade off.

I'm very impressed with the stability of this SUV. Very good handling and ride. When floored at speed there is a tendency to drop into too low a gear. All controls are easy to reach and work/feel tight. Interior design is modern/functional which I like. Will submit another review after the first winter here in Toronto. Nice 2liter Lexus 4cyl. engine. Plenty of torque.

We're constantly running around from event to event, the trunk space is great and larger than most people think for a small SUV. It rides well and has great features - lots of nooks and crannies to store things

Nice engine. Quiet. Excellent stereo. Superb handling. I drive 30 miles each way to work (27mpg). Back roads and 2 lane highway. I bought this SUV for the FT4WD and the stickshift. I didn't want a computer deciding when to engage the 4WD. I also test drove CRV, Saturn, Forester, Imprezza, others... I was really excited when I first purchased it. My wife likes it. Now after 3 months, I am very satisfied. I can't wait for a lot of snow this winter to test the FT4WD. With a rear-facing car seat, my 5'6" wife has 1" of kneeroom between the glovebox. Forward facing car-seat provides adequate room in front seat.

My RAV4 has been good to me since I bought it in June. I traded in my 2001 Honda Civic (which I liked) for maintenance and utility reasons. I do my own basic maintenance so being able to get under the vehicle is key. Now I'm also able to haul larger objects in the back and I am able to tow a jet ski which wasn't possible with the Civic. With the RAV4, I'm able to have a better gas mileage (relative to other SUVs).

I Just purchased my RAV4 after researching for little over 6 months in the mini suv class. This is my first SUV, & I love it. So far, I am a happy first-time toyota driver. The ride is smooth, visibility is great, the stereo sound is perfect. I love the moonroof and overall sporty look of the RAV4 - it definitely stands out from the rest. The gas mileage also has been pretty good. My only complaint is the headrest is uncomfortable, and I am unable to get it to adjust just right.

We own a 1998 Rav4, decided to get a 2003. It is Spectra Mica Blue, with a moon roof, luggage rack, 2 WD auto trans, and Quick Pkg. Improvements since 1998 are impressive. The ride is smoother, seats are very comfortable, seating in the back is adjustable for more legroom, there are lots more nooks and crannies for storage, cup holders (4) that are adjustable, a neat little eyeglass holder hidden under steering wheel, nice small storage area under the floormat in back storage area, and a fishnet pocket on rear door. A compartment above the rearview mirror holds your garage door opener, etc. Better insulated agains road noise. City mpg 28.

I bought a RAV4-L with AWD and 5sp Man trans. I purchased largely due to interior comfort and driver space. Aestherics playes a role as well. Driving experience is very good. The car is very nimble, and handles road bumps with ease. Excellent brakes. Downside is a somwehat underpowered engine. The manual seems to make little difference due to the rather close gearing in the car. One could easily go from 2nd to 5th and not really miss 3rd and 4th. Torque comes in a very tight range of RPM and I find myself always dropping a gear or two to get the most out of the engine. Nevertheless, I have come to really enjoy how the car drives.

We bought this Rav for the wife. She had some reservations about the 4 cyl. After driving it for a few months it has excceded her and my expectations. Off road it's great as long as you avoid extreme situations.Ground clearance is fantastic, very little wheel spin and very agile. On the highway it really shines, it will cruise all day without breaking a sweat up hills included with close to 30 mpg.Once it gets too 3000 rpms it's pretty impressive. The only real down side is the cup holders could use some improvement and it can be a real slug at stop light to stop light unless you activate the ECT.

I think the engine is peppy enough & the gas mileage is comparable to the Ford Focus I traded. It rides good and looks stylish, sporty and cute. I bought my RAVioli because I knew it would be quality. It corners very well, and I take them all fast. Never had any problems with it. I had one rattle from the roof rack, but that was because I didn't tighten the screw all the way. You know, the idiots who don't rate this well probably don't take care of it, or maybe the RAV was put together in the USA, because they sometimes do a half-*ssed job of building things. Or they just had bad luck. But don't take it out on the car, it is probably your fault in the first place. :)

Just bought this a couple months ago and loving it. A little pricey for the Sport package, considering its all cosmetic, but it does sharpen the looks quite a bit. Rides and handles almost as comfortably as the 1999 Camry we turned at end-of-lease to buy this. A little bumpier, a little noisier, but the plusses far outweight the few minuses. Love the space and ease, very comfortable, almost feels more like a station wagon than an SUV, but so compact and easy to handle.

I have had my RAV for two months. I considered a wide variety of cars, including the New Beetle, Accord, Passat, Camry Solara and RAV. I had four major criteria - cuteness, fuel economy, reliability and safety. The RAV has lived up to all my expectations. I have done better than the fuel economy estimate of 29 mpg on the highway, yet the engine is very peppy. I had driven six cylinder cars for the last ten years and was pleasantly surprised at the acceleration of the the RAV's four cylinder engine. The back area is the perfect height to sit and put on my hiking boots. I highly recommend it for those seeking a reliable, practical and cute car.

Priorities for this car: Reliability, Reliability, and overall usefulness. Toyota wins hands down in the first two. Almost bought an Escape, but read Consumer Reports and changed my mind. Automatic was a must because of all the phone, food, map juggling, etc. Although a solid shifter, it is a poor match for the engine. Mileage is only fair (23 mpg). Ride and noise is comparable to a compact car. Back seats are very versatile. Lots of neat little compartments. Easy entry for 200 lb 6' guy. Steering wheel placement is a little off. Either my legs are too long or my arms are too short. Nice runaround car. I love it!

The dealership i delt with was wonderful and made things as smooth as can be. I have not had my car for a year quite yet, but have enjoyed every single aspect of it. I drive a ton for work and haul quite a bit around for my occupation and my car has made just my job that much more enjoyable. Toyota should have done a better job smoothing out this car. For the money, it should be more comfortable and quieter...but as with other SUV makers, the consumer is dumb enough to pay premium for a primitive vehicle (SUV's are trucks that are hugely overpriced). The dealer took us for a ride on the alarm system but screw it, our time and sanity is more important than a few hundred dollars here and there. Time will tell how the car holds up...so we'll see.

I am a Toyota person and I had some reservation about the RAV4 but I love'd the body style. I had 184,000 mile on my Camry and I need a new vehicle I shopped until I dropped and Hatfield's gave me the best deal I went on week end trip and I love my new RAV4 it has the all wheel drive. I went from a V6 back to a 4 cyclinder and I love it.I can't say enought good this.

I have been a lover of SUV's since 1988. I have tested almost the best of the most renown automobile manufacturers in the world. I have never had such a great feeling of stability and control while driving one. When behind the wheel, it give you the feeling that you and your RAV 4, are part of the same moving body, and you can actually feel the extension of your senses out of your body and around the vehicle. The first time I took the car for a test drive, it was so handy and easy, it gave the dealer the idea this is going to be my second RAV 4 in the garage! I have loved this model, and congratulate Toyota for such great success!

I traded in my 1998 Rav4 , I am sorry I did, The 2003 has play in the front end, I feel the road bounce more. I had the dealer check the car out and they told me that nothing was wrond with it, and that I have to get used to the new style. The 1998 Rav4 handeled better, and was more fun to drive, wish I had it back. The Tonneau Cover is an inconveniece, and falls on my head. Way to many options to choose from and too much after market stuff. Radio does suck. The center arm rest is to hard.

Kids are older; didn't need minivan anymore. Went out looking at Camrys and Accords but wife likes being up high. Looked at RAV4s and CRVs. Wish we’d bought the CRV. Infamous RAV4 rattle. Been back 3 times; still not fixed. Driver side wiper broke in snow this weekend. Trip #4 to dealer. Just developed a new rattle on roof rack. Car has less than 2000 miles and haven't even made 1st payment yet! Auto. doesn’t shift smoothly into high. Not enough storage compartments and ones it has too small. Bought new Plymouth Horizon in 1980; biggest piece of blank I ever bought until now. Thought Yugo of business but Toyota must be outsourcing RAV4 production to them.

I have owned several vehicles as well as other Toyotas and I can honestly say that the 2003 RAV4 S model is the most fun to drive. True, it is not a powerhouse, but it is not designed to be. The 4 wheel drive is flawless and I could not tell the difference between it and the 2 wheel drive model. The interior is the usual Toyota quality and the exterior is awesome.

Since I bought this RAV4, I have taken this to the dealer more than 10 times to fix problems. I took this to fix the rattle noise from dash and other places more than 5 times. Couple of times to fix the engine light. Now it is back with the dealer to fix the engine light and this time they have to replace the Cat converter and the transmission. It has only 23k miles. Thanks to all you reviewers who helped me decide against the CR-V and for the RAV4. Visually, it was no contest. CR- V may have 15 or so more horses, but it was way too conservative, bland and boring. My 12 year old Saturn had more style. The new Sport model with the Graphite Gray Pearl paint sold me. With gas at $2.00+ a gal., I'm pleased with the 4 cyl mileage (so far). Glad I chose the RAV 4 over the Saturn Vue, though for the money it is very close and I will miss the dent-free side panels. My mini RX 300 is functional, sexy, sporty and half the price of the Lexus. Gotta get the moon roof and wider wheels/tires to maximize comfort and handling.

No power? Come on, this thing is plenty peppy! Absolutely no problem on entrance ramps. (OK, so I don't exactly live in hill country.) As for the sound system, mine's got bass to burn! And the controls are convenient and logical. The tweeters give it good presence. This car is a joy to drive, if a little bouncy in the ride. I suppose that's the tradeoff for its superior handling.

This car is fun to drive and the looks with the sport package are better than all the other compact suvs. The seats could use lumbar support. The performance is ok for a 4 cylinder (it’s not a race car). The gas mileage is awesome. The ride and handling are great. I purchased this because I have 1 child and another on the way and the ranger extend cab wasn’t going to cut it; this suv is perfect for me. The legroom in the back is ok for kids but 4 adults riding in this car would not be comfortable.

I can haul people/things with this vehicle. I haven't noticed the lack of power that most people are griping about. My husband and I hauled butt, fully loaded, at 70+, in the Rockies with no problem. Hmmm, maybe some people just like to complain...or maybe I don't drive like a maniac! I have the all- wheel drive version, and it handles well in crappy, snowy driving conditions.

Love the car in terms of the inter/exter design and handling. Hate the price of the car and initial quality. Maybe I care too much about the quality, but that is one of the major reasons I bought the car. It is not fun to bring car back to dealer even for warranty services. In addtion, this car really need a V6 engine to be perfect although 4 handles majority of the task really well. Hum, maybe I should n't make that wish since mpg was the other reason I bought RAV4. Or I should be smart enough to get a Hightlander or RX300. Anyway, compare to my old buddy - 94 camry, RAV4 is much better.

I purchased my 2003 Rav4 with the sports package a week and a half ago. I traded in my 98 Corolla. The Rav is great for people with physical limitations. I have arthritis in my hips, back issues, shoulder problems and have not had as much pain since driving the Rav. There are two complaints, first is there is no get up and go which is dangerous in my opinion - my Corolla hauled a$$! Secondly the stereo system is horrible, I cannot get the local stations that I used to get in the Corolla. The sound of the stereo(CD player) is good. My dog loves having his own space in the back, and I love not having dog fur all over the vehicle. So far, all is well!

I love this truck; it's a great all around vehicle. I commute 50 miles round trip daily, mostly freeway and in heavy traffic, and so far am averaging 23 mpg. Visibility and acceleration are good. Do your research; test drive more than once; drive it at night; take it on the freeway; take it up a hill; make a u- turn. The RAV is a lot of fun.

My 2003 RAV4 Sport is the 5th Toyota product we have purchased and it has delivered satisfaction. Those who have slammed the mini-"ute" have somehow forgotten that this is a 4 cylinder mini-suv. For driving around the city and periodic trips on the interstate the performance is satisfying. I have had no problems keeping up with more expensive vehicles on the interstate and at 75mph, the ride is quiet and comfortable. I am very satisfied with my RAV and yes it does deserve its rating as the top rated min- suv by Consumer Reports.

Tired of always driving sedans; I decided I wanted an SUV this time around. Have owned Hondas for 12 years yet thought that the CRV was boring. I don't know if I will be as happy with my RAV 4 in three years but for the first month -- I could not be happier. Just a fun vehicle to drive!

beef it up a bit

the build quality on this vehicle seems excellent. i have owned toyota trucks prior to this one and i am happy to see that they have not diminished the quality of the product like some other manufacturers have. the ride is a bit stiff on bumpy roadways but feels very solid for a compact vehicle. the seats could be improved on a bit, and i would like to see larger tires available besides the 235x60x16 car like tires supplied.it is more car-like than suv..

Very fun to drive, especially with the 5-speed manual, but under-powered. Handling is superb, as are the brakes. All-in-all, a nice vehicle. Could use a larger engine. Sterio sounds tinny. Same as Camry. Needs better speakers.

Biggest piece of junk ever produced. Wish I had driven it longer than the test drive. Nothing but problems. Underpowered, overpriced, holier than thou attitude at the dealer. Conned into buying one because of claimed reliability. Traded it in for a Saturn Vue V6 AWD a far better car in every respect.

You won't win a race in this vehicle.

I traded in a 2000 sports car for the Rav 4 because my previous Toyotas (3 of them) held up very well and kept their value (the sports car was already having engine problems and depreciated almost 50%!). The car/truck handles very well (tight turns), but I found the Rav's 4 cylinder engine a bit sluggish. Not very fun to drive on the highway when you're trying to change lanes or get on. However, city driving is a bit more fun.

This vehicle handles wonder at all speeds. I have had forty (40) vehicles in my life time so far, this 2002, 2WD RAV4 W/QP Package is the BEST.

cannot determine if car is of poor quality or dealership is the problem. rattle in dash took 6 months to fix leather seats were flawed and could not get replacement for 7 months. brakes pulled to right after rain. squeaking noise in rear.
