Snowstorms, road salt, floods, backroads, and highways my car has seen them all and is still going. She is especially great at dealing in the snow with excellent handling all around and is a nice compact size for parking in the city. I love her and when I buy again, am likely to buy another one.

So I bought this car new in November of 2003 I recently hit 282,000 miles. And I have had this thing in corn fields on 4 wheeler trails doing 140+mph and it just keeps going. Same engine same turbo(bigger exaust) same everything nearly. Hell the boots on the CV axles are the originals. At 260,000 miles I changed the timing belt for the 2nd time the rollers tensioner and water pump for the first time. Oh and shortly before that I put in my 2nd set of wheel bearings. And at 280,000 I dropped in my 2nd clutch. This car still gets 25-28mpg.

I bought this car brand new. It has been a rocket of a car despite the turbo lag at low rpms. Very responsive and nimble for a wagon. This was the 2nd gen WRX. Reliable except for some problems. There is strut knocking in the rear, disc/brakes problems (numerous brake replacements) not braking hard. Clutch smells when driving it hard. A bit cramped for tall people. No rear room for adults great space with seats folded down. Comparable to an SUV. Excessive wind noise and engine noise. Fogs up easy on the windows. Lots of fan noise when on high but not much output to help defog.

It does it all!

I never write reviews, but I love this car and feel I owe it to the brand. I am completely sold on Subarus from now on. Snow, dirt, and wet roads are afterthoughts in this thing. I have taken it everywhere from snowdrifts to Jeep trails, and never had to second guess it. My favorite feature about it is storage space. I considered the few other cars with the elusive combination of storage and fuel efficiency, but none can touch the Subaru's AWD drivetrain. I will never go back to owning a truck for recreational purposes. The wagon can carry multiple bikes, gear for all and still have room for my dog. I love this car.

This has got to be one of the most underrated cars out there, It's practicality is useful for almost situation a driver wants(except racing) unless turbo'd. It was my best friend in 20cm of snow and its AWD never let me down.

My husband and I had a 2005 Ford Focus Wagon. We decided to purchase a new car when we found out the Focus did so poorly on impact ratings. We ended up choosing this Subaru for many reasons. First, our mechanic (good friend of ours) said they were very reliable, secondly, they were super safe, and thirdly, because it fit what we were looking for. I asked for 4 doors, child-friendly, safe, and AWD or 4WD. My husband asked for a race car. You can't find a better comprimise car than this!

This car is fun...fun...fun!!! As long as the engine rpm is kept in its powerband, you'll have the feeling that it is much larger than the 2.0l that it is. My car is a 5 speed. Stomp on the pedal, and its warp speed capable! The car handles the road as if were velcroed to it. Living in Vermont, there is no shortage of twisting roads. Some of which, have more kinks in them, than a roll of cheap garden hose. Yeehah!!! I truly wish that I could drive this beast, as it was designed to be driven. If I did, I'd be walkin'! Speeding tickets are expensive. With a few tweaks, my mileage is hovering around 32 mpg. Thank you Subaru,

Trixie has gotten me through 2 bad breakups and many famous NY winters, and I'm still in love. I picked her up on 11/18/78 (happy birthday to me) and have never regretted it. The fuel economy is great, 29hwy with a K&N filter. The turbo lag is perfect for tame suburban driving, then you can let the ponies run on the country roads. Like all, I wish it was a little more posh, but it is what is, a Rally Car's little Bro. Speaking of rallying, the car handles wonderfully on dirt and washboard roads. All in all, a wonderful car and a terrific buy for under $25K. 0-60 in sub 6, and almost 30mpg hwy. What else do you want?!

I have been a VW fan for the last 15 years, at one time saying I would never buy anything else. That was until my '96 Jetta GLS. To say I was disappointed with it is an understatement. While looking for a replacement for that car, something fun like VW's without the problems, I started looking at the WRX wagon. I needed a wagon and 4 doors, otherwise I may have ended up with a GTi. I took the WRX for a test drive, and that is all it took. This car is pure joy to drive! I had to get one, and I did. I have been driving it now for six months, and I still love it. I still look for reasons to take it out and I am still volunteering to drive my friends to and from the airport. I love it!

I purchased this car back in 2002 and never regretted it. I spent quite a bit of time researching various cars before getting my Outback Sport and am pretty happy with the car and its overall performance after having it for more than 3 years and driving 32k miles. It's my third car and second Subaru. Very reliable and nice car. Fast acceleration (on manual transmission) and very solid driving on snow (tested in Tahoe area). Probably has the best performance/price ratio of all AWDs on the market.

This Subaru is fun to drive and has enough power to make driving to Mammoth from LA 3 times a year enjoyable. I'm never going to buy a non AWD vehicle again. Besides being an excellent ride for ski trips the AWD comes in real handy in wet conditions.

In a little over 2 years I've put 45,500 trouble free miles on my WRX. I average about 25 MPG in 60/40 hwy/city driving and with a little effort, I can get 27 MPG. Not bad. My WRX has been on several 2000+ mile trips and was very comfortable. The interior could be a bit nicer, the transmission a little smoother and the exterior takes a little getting used to (I love it though!). The car is so much fun to drive, I can't wait to get into it each day. I'm not sure I'll ever be able to part with it I enjoy it so much. The AWD inspires great confidence in the snowy Midwest winters and other slick conditions.

My husband is a new car addict so I can honestly say that I've owned or at least driven most cars all years and models, but no other car seems to compare. The speed, handling, fuel economy, snow driving, look, comfort. I just cant compare it to any other vehicle out there. This car is my number one!

I totaled my '99, but it saved my life. I had reservations about another one because it was VERY noisy, the shift linkage was awful and the clutch worked best parked. There were a lot of ignition problems, and the rear brakes were drums. But having two dogs, always had manual transmission, and not wanting to be sitting high off of the ground left me few choices. I ended up with a 2003 with 18,500 miles on it for $13,800. I love it! Subaru addressed every issue but the rear brakes (sigh). It is quiet, no hood scoop, more power, and the best shift linkage I have driven yet. It feels like a Legacy.

First thing I noticed when I drove this car home from a SoCal dealership was how quiet the engine was compared to all the Honda Civics I've owned. It's suprisingly fuel efficient if you stay off the boost, I netted 450 miles on a tank on that trip back home, where I average approximately 70 mph. Gas is now $2.90 for premium in my area, so this was a really pleasant suprise. The motor is pretty laggy though, but once you're in boost, it's heaven. The handling is awesome and still offers a pretty good ride. I feel this car has the perfect mix of power, handling, braking, and fuel economy... at any price. My co-worker owns a 2001 Audi S4 and this car feels like a 9/10 version of it.

It's a nice car. Stock out of the box it has more perfomance than most. AWD is a definite plus especially if you have changing seasons. From what I have learned from my friends' older Imprezas, most of them aren't holding up for much longer than 80k miles. But some of my friends don't take care of their cars like they should. The car is shorter than most sedans, but that's what gives it the mobility that it has. I feel bad for the people in the back seat; there isn't a lot of room, but I never have to be back there! A few weird things: Gears are straight cut (shifting isn't as smooth as most); I get a weird hum at 60MPH (Subaru doesn't know what it is); and coolant -- you go through it like crazy, due to turbos.

bar none, best bang for the buck going. Test drive and buy. Thats what I did. You will love this car. Turbo lag is an issue but with practice it is somewhat eliminated. Fun to out -accelerate 90% of the cars on the road. People unfamiliar with a wrx wagon have no idea what they are up against. Turbo plus awd is a winning combination when out performing other sport cars. I have over 50,000 miles on this car and every morning it is a pleasure to get in it and drive. I have never felt this way about any car. Buy one and you will know what I mean.

My boys talked me into this car. I changed jobs and actually had a company BMW 741 IL - a fast but heavy lux car. When I had a very limited budget and a lot of weather to content with, I needed a high performance AWD car. Man has it been great! The car performs like a race car - very quick once the the turbo kicks @ 3000rpm, the tires are sticky around any curves, and the brakes put you in FULL control... I love this car so much, I will be moving up to the STi (as soon as my wife let's me...) If you have a chance, buy this car. You will not regret it - unless you try to fit 3 boys, wife and dog in it. Won't work! Enjoy

I planned on keeping my '00 Protege until it died but for a WRX I traded my reliable economy car for more power. Generally not rash to buy a vehicle, when I found a WRX wagon on sale for a great price I bought it the day I test drove it. For anyone into spirited driving on gravel roads, a WRX has no rivals for the cost. Compared to the sedan version, the wagon is sluggish but the utility of extra interior space has been worth it. Everyone I know who has considered a wagon and bought a sedan has since regretted the lack of room. Fuel economy: 22 mpg day-to-day, 29 highway, 9 when running wide open.

I looked at the Protege5 and Jetta wagons before deciding on the Subaru Imprezza wagon. The Jetta was too small for my husband, and the Subaru was so much more fun to drive than the Protege. I haven't had it long (10 mos), but the only problem I've had is that it is difficult shift into reverse. I can fit a ton of stuff in the back, rubber cargo mat is excellent when driving dogs around, and at the end of an 8 hour drive, we are still comfortable. I hope this car remains as trouble free and fun to drive as it is right now.

I work with a ton of car buffs who sport around in their 50k porsche's or other sports cars. Not all of them appreciate the car design but they all have the same reaction when I drop the clutch at about 3500 RPMs...Holy S!*#!!. If you want a luxury "sports" car look somewhere else. If you want a car that drives like a gokart on steroids this is your ride. With the popularity of the car there are a wide range of modifications coming online for those who want to take the next step in performance.

Subarus are tough, easy to work on, and fun to drive. Not the biggest car inside, but for a single commuter or a small family it is fine. The AWD is great when it is needed, but otherwise sucks up a bit of power. The car is a perfect blend of utility and performance, and is a great value.

Great car, could be better on gas.

The car is awesome, you cant really ask for more, but I do not like the fuel economy. I am only averaging about 17mpg and 20mpg on highway. Other than that there is nothing to complain about, you will be satisfied.

If you're looking for an sporty sedan, look no further.Awesome performance for under 25k. It seats 4 people comfortably with even the fifth "real seatbelt," not just the lap one. Just make sure you buy it stick shift so you can really make use of that turbocharged engine. Once you get a feel for it, take it in the canyons and when you hit the turns in 2nd or 3rd gear HOLD the gas pedal! Now you'll know why you bought this car.

The winding, mountainous roads around me are a kick in my WRX, with power, pickup and handling. (Even Porsche and BMW driving friends LOVE driving it!) But gravel and rutted roads are tough on the tires (on my 2nd set), brakes (going in for its 2nd brake job at 27,000 mi.) and alignment (can't seem to hold it.) Could use a little more ground clearance. Doubt I'd buy it again because of the brake and tire problems.

I love the car. It gives me a perfect blend of the performance I love and the ability to go off road if needed. I recently took it to West Virginia, where I go white water rafting/rock climbing yearly, and let me tell you, up in those hills my car and I had a great time! I also took in on some pretty rough roads and off road a little bit and I was surprised. How can something that handles so well on the road do so well off of it. I just wish that it came with a more performance based tire. The bridgestones are horrible! I can't wait for a set of pirellis.....

car handles all the corners and twisties you want to give it for a vehicle in this price range. A little quick to shift from 1st to 2nd. ride is good on highway; not quite as good on our rough city roads in Toronto. I bought winter tires which make this car very impressive when it gets snowy or icy. Very fun to drive and surprises a few people from the lights.

I like the car alot but I guess I expected more refinement. The transmission at time sounds clunky but the handling and surge of power when the turbo kicks in makes me forget the shortcomings I find. Overall I would probably do it again but from a 4 cylinder, 23 miles a gallon is the best you are going to get

Cant rate the reliability yet but every other aspect; handling, function, acceleration, looks, quality are superb. In choosing the TS, I researched the Protege wagon, focus wagon, vibe, element & matrix. This is in the uppermid price range, but is clearly on top in features & function. The gas mileage is good considering the power and towing capacity. I liked the protege wagon until I drove the TS. They are not even in the same club. I like the Element but there was not enough driver leg room. The leg/head room in the TS is great. Normally my hair brushes the ceiling in smaller cars, but I have 2 inches above my head in the TS. Overall, a very nice car.

It is absolutely fantastic car. The infamous turbo lag can be sometimes annoying, but after 6 months I almost mastered beating it, when need power. Florida is flat, but those wet ramps are great! I took a wagon for utility (also looks are in my opinion better then sedan) and can recommend all cargo accessories from Subaru (bin, net, tray, etc.). Also get the armrest extension if you are tall. An of course, get short-throw shifter! Fuel economy is an oximoron for this car: 20/25 premium (at best) is pathetic for a 2.0 l engine. Highway can be even worse if keep the speed above 80 mph. But boy, is it worth it.

Needless to say i bought one for me within a two week period.I bought it used at 12,000 miles. I also bought the extended warranty I replaced the turbo @at 17,000 miles. The previous owner must have enjoyed driving it. I also was the first in my area to have a fuel leak which puzzled the service people at first. Since then three others have been in with it. I received excellent service from the Colonial Service.

Plenty of pickup, amazing suspension, corners on rails, tons of room to put stuff in back, decent gas mileage. Handled incredibly well in over a foot of snow, in rain, in all weather conditions. AWD is amazing. Drawbacks: Suspension being so tight causes ride to be a little stiff for long distance (worth putting up with), interior design could be a little better engineered(no place to put cd's, only one useful cupholder. In short, totally worth the price paid for the fun on tight roads, handling in all weather, and zip. Eminently practical, too.

I traded my 2000 Honda Civic EX in for this car and have NEVER regret it! I spent a year in England and remembered watching Rally races on TV. This car is without a doubt the best I've owned so far. It's got sexy styling and after installing the short throw shifter, the changing of gears is a dream. My wife who does not care for manual transmissions even longs to drive my car! If you have one and have not tried it on a dirt road, DO SO! Other than that, it is a Mustand and Camaro killer. And I do not care what any EVO fan has to say, the rally races are still won by the Subie 90% of the time!

Overall a a very nice car. Open road driving is great, but the turbo lag is annoying. The power is poor until you hit 3,000 RPM, then it takes off like a rocket. Also, the gas mileage is nowhere near the 20/27 listed on the sticker. More like 20/23. Also, the transmission is not that smooth at times. Overall, though I like the car a lot and often take the long way home as long as that way involves lots of hills and curves!

This car is the most fun of any car that I've owned. Every car I have ever owned has utilized forced induction but this one is by far the most entertaining. I went with the wagon because my wife was having our first kid and I wanted the utility. I must say though, the trunk isn't THAT big. I can fit more stuff into my '97 Honda Civic. Also, rear leg room is meager and is only recommended for short trips. If you're really looking for a long trip family car go with an SUV or Minivan.

I bought this car thinking "this is it!". I admit it is a fun and fast car. But I've found it had a lot of little problems. The steering isn't always there to help you with agressive turns, shifting can be missed when pushed a bit more agressively and it is already showing signs of wear... which makes me wander how reliable it will be as years pile up. My friend bought and Evolution, I recently got a chance to drive it... and inmediately I realized my mistake. The Evo is much more refined in all aspects and has a better steering feel. I think my WRX is a great car, but I think the EVO will always be more refined... even when the 290Hp STi comes out.

I only have 600 miles on it but enjoy the ride quality, handling, interior layout and the power of the extremely smooth flat 4 engine. I was actually shopping it against the Honda CR-V LX. This car handles and accelerates wonderfully considering it's not a light car for its size. The engine has a unique sound and a lot of torque. The chassis is downright unflappable, and again, the handling is simply amazing. I do notice, however, that the steering is more vague on the center than I thought, and the path control is not very accurate; nonetheless, the weighting and feel are very good. Build quality and material is also very good. Front room is good, but back room is a no-no for anyone over 5'6". The back seat is a bit too upright, though supportive. The trunk is bigger than I thought. Overall, a very good buy!!

It can outrun, out accelerate, and outcorner anything but the Porsche 911s or BMW M series on dry roads and outdo anything on rainy or snowy roads. Yet police never notice it (particularly my low-key black WRX wagon). I've got another year left on the lease, but am already planning to lease a newer WRX.

I used to have a 350HP AWD Talon but this thing is great. It has loads of bottom end. It's o.k in the snow however I belive that the tires is what hurts it most in snow traction. However the AWD makes up for it. Very good interior build quality. Feels sound and sturdy, yet the seats are great for long distance travel. I have driven my car from MN to Chicago, IL many times and it was a wonderful car. After 3-4 hours my legs felt great no cramping or anything. Definatly worth the money for this car. I had looked at many other cars. and this blew everything out of the water for the price/quality.

The 0-60 starts from the tollbooth gate are something to behold at 5.4 seconds. All this in a reliable economy compact wagon under $25,000 that gets over 20mpg on average. Handling with 4wd is razor sharp. Driven normally, it is a very comfortable well-behaved car. Driven hard it is amazing! It is, however, one of the ugliest cars on the road. It takes practice to eliminate turbo lag. Wagon space compared to the Subaru Legacy is tiny. You'll need to fold the back seats down for real hauling space.

Chose the WRX over the GTI VR6 in a close call. Miss the VR6's amenities, but the WRX power and awd are decisive. Accel, braking, cornering, and shifting are all terrific. Smoothness is and quietness are better than I expected; ride is excellent except on large bumps. No defects so far except for rattle in short-shift linkage. Trunk slam is pathetic, but if Subaru had to cut something to meet price, that's a good place to cut.

I really enjoy driving this car. I do find the clutch to be a little stiff, and the turning radius is not what it should be on a car that size. Also, it gets terrible gas milage. However, I am very happy.

The WRX wagon may look like a strictly utilitarian vehicle, but drives like an expensive sports car. Its acceleration, handling and braking match those of cars that cost thousands of dollars more and have the sporting pedigrees to match. I have been thrilled with this car!

You can’t beat the bang for the buck. I have done more mods than I care to mention but the performance of the car is amazing. I now have a little wagon that will easily run with or beat a turbo Porsche at a fifth the price. I can take 4 other people along with me for the ride in reasonable comfort. Then I can stuff the hatch area full of stuff and take a trip. This car is the ultimate all-weather interceptor. Very few cars can offer this level of performance, reliability and fun! Every day its basic goodness shines through as soon as you fire it off. Downsides to the car: mileage, interior materials and terrible tires. Buy one!

Mine is actually a 2002 purchased 9/01, but the 2002 and 2003 are essentialy the same. I've put over 22,000 miles on it with no problems at all. It zippy around town and handles well. The build quality is great, it doesn't rattle and the interior is impressive for a $20,000 car. Its a good value with AWD and power everything. I got mine with armrest extention, filter, cargo net and keyless entry for $19,500 with very litte negotiating. The seats are good for a little while but get uncomfortable for any drive over 2 hours.

At initial purchase this was the most bang for the buck in my price class. Although the styling might be taken as dowdy by some, this car is the swiss army knife of vehicles. I commute 110 miles each day(80 highway, 30 dirt) and I find the car very comfortable. Gas mileage could be better. The motor and AWD are the big reasons to have this car. I've put 25,000 miles on this car in less than 4 months and it shows no signs of slowing down. The car will see action in both auto-x and rally-x this summer. The most amazing thing is that with an experienced driver at the helm I have never seen a faster car down a dirt road..."UNCLE!"

This is a fantastic automobile. I've had mine for almost two years and it's been a great experience. I got one of the first ones and the only "problem" I've had was an overly sensitive system control computer which displayed "check engine" warnings after prolonged high-rpm driving. The car was out of commission for a few days to have the unit re-programmed and I haven't had a problem since. The car is roomy (for a compact), comfortable and. most importantly, a blast to drive.

It's fun to drive, but to tell you the truth, i have no idea on how reliable it is. The WRX has only been around for a few years... But you should replace your car every 5 years anyways :P

We took delivery from the wonderful Williams and it was snowing so we drove for a half hour loving every minute. The torque is great and the engine note is pure music. The interior is just right for two and stuff, which is how we go, usually. We plan to have this car a long time and care accordingly. It seems to be decent quality materials throughout.

The WRX’s build and design are a great match for its price. The WRX steps up a few generous notches in performance and price from earlier models but is money well spent. I felt it should have had a shorter 1st gear with a transmission spanning 6 gears but it’s workable. Turbo lag is present but after 3K RPM you feel a smooth but quick rush of power. Compared to a V6 though, you’ll find the sub-3K RPM a little sleepy. But the 2-liter engine wakes up to very powerful acceleration. The car grabs the road with a pointed determination when the wheel is even slightly turned. It’s an absolute blast to feel the car respond instantaneously to your every input.

Owning a VW for the past 20 years, I was skeptical about the switch. Now I know what Subie owners have been keeping for themselves all these years. All the auto publications were not exaggerating what a value this car is compared to all else that is on the road. I just dig how well it performs in all conditions. Took it for a real test in the canyons above L.A. in the Angeles Crest National Forest area with lots of immediate twisties and it was impossible to keep the smile off my face. Nothing can touch this car for under 25K.

Horsepower is more than enough to carry this car, which is barely bigger than my old civic. This thing moves better than most "real" sports cars. Front seats are comfy, they hug and provide support. Handling is great, I can take corners without breaking, not suggested though.

I looked at the WRX wagon initially, but decided the extra $4000 and higher insurance rates weren't worth it. The TS is a fun, sporty driving car with the benefit of AWD and the Insureance Institute for Highway Saftey best crash rating. I like its "quirky" styling because you don't see much else like it on the road. The 2.5l engine provides plenty of power for freeway driving and the mountains. Much better than the Saturn its replacing. The back seats might be a little cramped for adults over 5'7" on long trips and I'd like to see alloy wheels and keyless entry made standard, but those are my only major gripes. Very solid, fun car to drive.

Now that the STI is on the horizon, I am only slightly tempted. The stock WRX delivers more than adequate performance. In 14K miles, I've had no problems and my only critiques are slight quibbles about lack of outside thermometer, lack of heated seats, leather upholstery, and other things that really are secondary. For the money, the quality and performance of the WRX are unmatched, especially for those of us who do alot of winter driving.

Although I have owned 2 Subarus, I thought I was going to end up in a Jetta 1.8T, or used Audi A4. Jetta summary - higher perf and a higher price, no AWD, not as safe, or reliable. Comparably priced A4s were 1999 vintage, a bit long in the tooth. I considered the protege5, but looking at the safety data quickly ended that. The wagon's cargo options are extremely flexible. My 55 lb. dog fits comfortably in the back. The driver's seat is comfortable and visibility is good. The instrumentation is adequate. Although I read lukewarm reviews of the acceleration I suspect they were based on the automatic transmission. I find the M5 to be more than satisfactory.

I bought my 2003 Outback Sport Manual just as the weather changed from dry rainless weeks to rainy days and slick roads here in the east. It gives a great feeling of the road and handles better in inclimate weather than the 1996 Nissan 200SX SE-R that I previously owned. The first snow of the year I saw more Subaru owners on the road than SUV owners. Yeah Subaru!! Fun to drive in all kinds of weather. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!!

I have had absolutely no problems w/ this car. As long as nothing catastrophic happens, I may never buy anything but a Subaru again. Bang for the buck, you cannot beat this car. It is a blast to drive. My only complaint is the excessive wind noise over 100 mph....but, I, uh, don't know how to explain this to my dealer.

I had been drooling over a WRX since seeing them in WRC and British car mags like CAR or EVO, and was highly anticipating their advent into the US market. I've had one for 6 months and 8000 miles now. The engine is lethargic up to 3000 rpms, but then pushes the power to the wheels from that point up. Driving part-throttle is fine above 2500 rpms, but there's still that lag. Love the car in town, but find it a bit twitchy at highway speeds of 70 and up. Body is solid, with some body roll, but not bad. MPG Is not what it could be--I average about 22 in town, but 29 highway. Power can be helped with muffler or aftermarket items.

Never have I felt more at home in an automobile. The cabin has taken a lot of critisism for it's lack of "quality". This fails to take into account that everything is in the right place, and that the driver is not looking at the interior. I feel that everything is right. Even the coin drawer. It took me 10 minutes to find it, with the manual. I expected it to be in the center. It isn't. It is perfectly placed to the left hand. Why have to fish for change, transfer hands etc? The gearbox is good, the steering positive.

I'm 28 and bought my WRX in Oct. 2003- been very pleased with my purchase. I would label this car a "driver's car." You get the feel and handleing of a sports car--the AWD of an SUV (but with a little better gas mileage)--and the convience of a four-door vehichle. It comes with alot of standards. Everyone has heard about the turbo lag--it is present. It is just a different driving expereince that takes a little to get use to. Overall, a FUN eye-catcher that looks mean sitting still.

this car is awesome, i can feel like 90% cars around is SLOW. can beat any car stock! and don't forget about the beauty of AWD. great at cornering, bad weather and SNOW! it's a fun car to drive. don't say you don't like it until you drive it. dare to try to turbo? and by the way, there is a morron saying that WRX eats too gasoline for such a small engine, and i would say .... "duhhh!!!! this is a turbocharged engine you dumb dumb."

This car is very fun to drive, but buyer beware. My car is not even a year old but it's been to service more times than my older car. I've had problems with the cheap paint (easily stains), the engine light turning on and fluid leaks.

I've had my car for a while and as much as I love being able to compete with most cars on the road. I love it when I don't get stuck in the snow. I proved this when my friends and I went into a lot with 8" of snow on the ground and I was the only one to leave without a lot of pushing. If you live in a cold climate this is the car to own for the price.

Well what to say: amazing grip, incredible launch, hard to break the tires loose. Nice styling especially for my wagon model. Completely changed my idea of Subaru as a family car. Looking forward to hitting the mountains in the AWD! Actually having space for humans and skis/snowboards, boots and garb. Easy access to storage. Nice engine design. Aggressive styling. Fogs light up the road like spots! Handling to the point of having to lay off due to fear rather than loss of traction. Nice headroom in back seats. Nice stereo for a stock system. Overall a great buy!

I have owned this fun, and enjoyable vehicle (my first Subaru) for seven months now. The AWD & Turbo is more fun than my previously owned 1966, 912 Porsche 5 speed, and my Saab 99E (front drive). High altitude driving from Sacramento to Reno is astonishing In the rain: I can not think of another car sold in the USA that can keep up with it through a given course- that does not sell for $10,000 more. I honestly believe that Subaru must subsidize the WRX sales for WRC rules. Like GOOD wine, if you do not understand it or appreciate it- don't buy it. Those that do will SMILE- I DO! Everyday that I drive.

Stiff chassis and solid steering make this car fun to drive. I look for road bumps that used to scare me in my Honda Accord. The railroad tracks are a real hoot. Gas mileage is lower than my Honda but the acceleration is far superior. the engine is smooth and strong.

This car is just plain fun to drive! Jumps off the line with great acceleration once you get the engine (RPMs) spooled up. In the turns the car is balanced and rock solid with minimal body roll. Have driven in the rain and have yet to break the grip loose. Would recommend getting the short throw shifter for more precise shifting. I am averaging 21 (mpg) because it is hard to stay off the pedal in this car.

I've had it for about a month and a half now and still not used to it's power. Once the turbo kicks, you'll be glad the seat back is nice and comfortable. And the bucket seats are needed through insane turns. only had a couple problems. There was a national shortage, so it took several weeks to recieve a spoiler. also i got the lojack/alarm combo option and had problems with alarm from day one. in cold weather didn't want to activate or deative. Dealer didn't want anything to do with repair. Took 2 visits from lojack to finally get it fixed. supposidly the lojack alarm was the same as subaru's, so beware. otherwise the car is perfect.

WRX sedan has no real world competition (price related). Performance numbers = $40-50k German sedans. The "feel" is exceptional. Like nothing you have ever driven, unless you have driven M3s. That is only thing that comes close in my experience. Everyone admits, the sheet metal and interior are not as sexy as the German big brothers, but you get passed that when you hit the throttle (in a hurry!). The car will do anything you can throw at it.

If you've ever driven go-karts in those tourist amusement parks, you know that you don't need neck-snapping acceleration to have fun on 4 wheels. This Subaru is like that. Sure, the WRX has greater acceleration (at a greater price), but this is a GREAT bargain. 35 MPH highway exit ramps become 55 MPH ramps. This car goes exactly where you point it under superb control. Make sure you get the 5-speed manual, and you'll love driving this car.

Purchased this car 10/30/01 and I'm approaching 14K miles. Impressive 0-60 power; it will smoke stock Mustang GT's off the line. Huge public appeal; I even got a thumbs-up from a Harley- Davidson biker (complete with 2 ft. beard). Fun to drive on all-surfaces. Complaints: The shifter and the interior plastic (a few rattles have emerged) could be a little tighter. I have the stock premium sound system including the under-the-seat sub and it longs for more power. Also the volume selector is coarse, there are huge differences between some increments. Overall, only minor gripes - I would recommend this car over and over again!

This is one zippy car for the price. I did replace the factory tires with Yokahamas, but it is stock otherwise. Good seats, interior is fine, standard package is loaded. Handling is great, with the ability to get rid of the understeer by accelerating through the corners. The 4 wheel drive is the key. Minor complaints are the somewhat mushy shifter and gas mileage is only about 22mpg (with premium fuel). I bought it because it was about the only car that both Car and Driver(a great driver's car) and Consumer Reports(reliability) liked. And it's a lot cheaper than an Audi Quattro.

The WRX performs like a sedan that should cost a lot more. It's fun to drive but takes a little work and planning ahead to keep the RPMs primed for maximum acceleration. Steering and breaking are solid in most cases. It took me 2 weeks to get used to the manual shifter. The look of the car isn't too bad, it's kinda different yet sophisiticated. I get a lot of different looks when driving my WRX: smiles, waves, curiosity, and people that want to race!

Driving a WRX Wagon makes all the difference in a commuter town like Houston. The power of its turbo engine and 227hp affords more agility, ability to negotiate between vehicles in traffic, and a certain level of safety that one cannot attain in a traditional off-road vehicle like an SUV. Because of its low center of gravity and full time AWD feature, the WRX Impreza has married the ideas of performance and safety to the test! The adventures await! Be sure to invest in an under-carriage protector! $80 bucks can save a bucket- load...

I drive in Western Europe each year and really have grown to enjoy the strong little 5 speed rentals and the twisty back roads there. My work here in the US now has me commuting 75 miles round trip on country roads each day so I went looking for the best handling / performing rig I could find for under $20,000. There are some great cars (Jetta's/ Civic's / Focus) but the new Subaru 2.5 L. Sport Wagon is way ahead of the others in speed and handling. It is precise and smooth through the hard corners and the power is such that shifting down is minimized ... quick and easy. The all wheel drive is just fantastic when the road gets greezy ... makes it very safe.

Well. I would highly recommend this car. I’m sure you have read other details and review so I won’t bore you with the common basics. The bottom line is it’s fun, fast, and it sticks to the road like glue. I imagine you are looking for what’s wrong with it: well, the interior could be improved but it does hold up well. The clutch chatters at times during the first two or three shifts (intermittent) but is fine there after. That’s it. Go buy one.

I did some pulls to seat the rings when I first got the car and now I'm babing the engine until the recommended 1000. Seating the rings was a teaser of the potential of this peppy little wagon. The misses jumped on me because I surpassed the 4k max rpm for breakend when I had to pull out in heavy traffic Even at 3/4 throttle the car and rpm's jump when you reach 3k rpm. Unfortunatly I see that you really need to either slip the clutch or drop the clutch if you really want a fast takeoff. But in turn it's a nice little car to putt around at gas saving speeds. There is enough power at low rpm's for everyday around town driving.

Just about perfect (Just about)!

All round great car but if power is want you want, get a WRX. Last note, standard stereo not very good, upgrade aftermarket. Very little wind noise on highway.
